African-American Media

"Oh but my joy of today
Is that we can all be proud to say
To be young, gifted and black
Is where it's at"
Nina Simone, "To Be Young, Gifted, and Black"

Media with a prominent focus on Black American people, whether it be historical or contemporary. Exploration of racial identity is common in these works, though the subject can also be highly varied.

We ask to list works with African-Americans in central roles as opposed to periphery roles. A good rule of thumb is to consider is that whether or not the work is about an African-American person or African-American people as opposed to playing a part in an ensemble. In fact, African-American media is so extensive there are multiple subtropes and folders on this index.
