Don't worry what they say
Just bring your love my way
Beyoncé: "...our album is a rebirth of music from The '70s. 'Cause we're trying to-"
Kelly: "Bring back that live sound from the '70s."
Beyoncé: "That live feel. And when you listen to the album, you'll hear the live music, the live guitar, even the orchestra Dwayne [Wiggins] hooked us up with; and we're trying to bring the music back to the way it was 'cause it was just tight..."

Together we'll trope over the bridge

  • The Artifact: "No, No, No" became this for Destiny's Child. As time went on, their debut album became less and less important in comparison to its three successor albums. In the rare case of any material from this album being performed by any of the group members, it's surely going to be "No, No, No" with an emphasis on its remixed form, "Part 2."
  • Cover Version: This album features a cover of the Commodores’ “Sail On.”
  • Giant Woman: Kelly is this in “With Me Part I”’s music video.
  • Happy Birthday to You!: "Birthday."
  • I Will Wait for You: "Killing Time."
  • The Mistress: The group acts as this in "With Me."
  • Recycled Soundtrack: "Killing Time" was featured in 1997's Men in Black, seven months prior to the album's release.
  • Sampling: Four songs on the album contain samples:
    • “Second Nature” samples “Make Me Say It Again Girl” by The Isley Brothers.
    • “No, No, No Part 2” samples “Strange Games & Things” by Love Unlimited Orchestra.
    • Both parts of “With Me” sample “Freak Hoes” by TRU.
    • “Bridges” samples “Simply Beautiful” by Al Green.
  • A Wild Rapper Appears!:
    • Wyclef Jean appears on "No, No, No Part 2" and "Illusion."
    • Fellow Fugee, Pras, also appears on "Illusion".
    • Jermaine Dupri appears on "With Me Part I"
    • Master P appears on "With Me Part II."
  • Younger Than They Look: Despite the album’s mature sound and material, the girls were all still high schoolers. Kelly, the oldest, had just turned 17 days before the album’s release.
