Sam Wilson is the official Captain America again. He gets a tip from Misty Knight about super-soldier serum smugglers and enlists the new Falcon, Joaquin's, help in stopping them. They run into migrants led by a woman Joaquin recognizes as Lúisa, who he claims is his cousin.

Crossbones gets a visitor in prison who calls himself White Wolf, although Rumlow is free to call him Hunter. He offers him the chance to overthrow a country or two, along with getting to kill Captain America.

Written by Tochi Onyebuchi with art by R. B. Silva. Issue #1 was released in June, 2022. It is also Sam Wilson's first solo monthly book since the conclusion of Rodney Barnes' Falcon during Marvel Legacy back in 2018.

Following Captain America: Cold War, Onyebuchi's run will conclude with Symbol of Truth #14 and Captain America #750.

Storylines and events that are part of this run

Captain America: Symbol of Truth contains the following tropes:

  • Bat Family Crossover: Captain America: Cold War serves as one with Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty.
  • The Bus Came Back:
    • The White Wolf, adoptive brother of the Black Panther T'Challa, makes his first non-flashback appearance in a decade or so.
    • In issue #7 we learn that Nomad is alive, and has been working for Bucky for a long time.
  • Continuity Overlap: Symbol of Truth runs parallel with Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing's Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty. The Century Game is the main connective tissue between the books, as both Sam and Steve are dealing with different facets of the conspiracy.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Shuri expels the American immigrants from Wakanda at the end of the first arc (and to punish Sam for defying her orders to stay out of her country). In the aftermath, T'Challa admits to Sam that his sister mishandled the situation. Were he still been King, T'Challa would've been angry, yes, but he also wouldn't have overreacted and punished innocent people the way Shuri did.
  • Flashback: After Sam gets caught in an explosion, we get a flashback to when Misty told him about the operation.
  • Full-Name Basis: Misty and Sam call each other Mercedes Knight and Samuel Wilson in private conversation.
  • Meaningful Echo: When Sam says he enjoys punching nazis, Misty comments that that's "some typical Captain America #!@§". Later, when she tells Sam about the smuggling of the super-soldier serum, she again points out that it's "typical Captain America #!@§".
  • Meaningful Name: Invoked by Crossbones. When White Wolf says to call him Hunter, he asks what he hunts.
  • One-Steve Limit: Defied and discussed by Deadpool, who thinks Wilson & Wilson sounds like a law firm.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Toilet Humor: When Sam discover Deadpool as a prisoner in a Latverian torture chamber, one of the first words out of his mouth is "The knife in my colon hurts the most. Also explains the stink, so could you—".
  • Your Mom: When getting Harvey Madsen #22 ready for interrogation about who's paying him, Sam warns him that if he says it's Sam's mom he'll get his teeth kicked in.
