Nothing says "Sweet Christmas!" like The '70s.

Cage is a Marvel comic book 4-issue miniseries starring Luke Cage and created by Genndy Tartakovsky, the same man behind Dexter's Laboratory, Samurai Jack, Star Wars: Clone Wars, and Sym-Bionic Titan. The series is intended as a throwback to the character's days as a pulpy '70s Blaxploitation hero.

Initially announced in 2007, the comic was delayed several times due to Genndy being busy with other projects and was eventually left lingering in Development Hell. When he learned that Marvel was still interested nearly a decade later, Genndy picked up where he left off, and the comic was eventually published in October of 2016.

Tropes:

  • Alternate Continuity: The comic has no connection to the Earth-616 universe.
  • Civvie Spandex: Luke Cage's old costume fittingly makes a comeback, tiara and all.
  • Genre Throwback: To the character's roots as a Blaxploitation-inspired superhero.
  • Scary Black Man: This is Luke Cage we're talking about.
  • The '70s: The comic is stated to specifically take place in this time period, with 70's versions of other Marvel characters making appearances.
  • Thick-Line Animation: Technically more "Thick-Line Art Style" due to being a comic book, but it is drawn in the same art style as Genndy's cartoons.
