All-CGI Cartoon

Go To

An All-CGI Cartoon is Exactly What It Says on the Tin — an animated TV show or movie which is generated entirely on a computer, and has no frames drawn on physical media at all. This includes series made with Adobe Flash, ToonBoom, and potentially OpenToonz, as well as higher-quality digital ink and paint-based films and TV shows. Since circa 2007, this has become the rule rather than the exception for films not made in Japan or France. Whether computer-made 2D animation is lumped together with traditional animation or with the 3D graphics usually associated with the term is up to the viewer — Wikipedia's list of computer animated films excludes features such as The Simpsons Movie and South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut.

Most CGI animation tends to be Western. While there are definitely examples of Japanese and Asian forms of CGI, almost all of the major films, franchises, and series done in computer animation are from the United States, Europe, or Canada.
