The Centsables are a group of six anthropomorphic superheroes defending the city of Centcinnati from evildoers while teaching kids about economics and financial responsibility. Recommended for the complex and oddly compelling storylines.
Currently airing on the Fox Business channel in the spirit of Saturday Morning Cartoons.
Tropes:
- All-CGI Cartoon: Yes. Also, the visual work and dialog on the show wasn’t the point in production; the Greek Tragedy, er, education is.
- And Knowing Is Half the Battle: Arguably the point of the show.
- Attack of the Killer Whatever: ATMs come to life and attack people in “Attack Of The ATMs”.
- The Chosen Many: The Centsables banded together to protect their fair city in green, yellow, and white outfits made of tights, masks, and capes.
- Comic-Book Time: Befitting the comic-esque genre the setting is a Retro Universe with mini-Time Skips to establish that something happened it was just took a long time or something that normally takes along time such as recovering from identity theft happens quickly.
- Cut Lex Luthor a Check: Comes up in the show every once in a while, such as a de-aging ray not showing up after the Heel–Face Turn after showing the results to be pretty pleasant.
- Edutainment Show: Banking
- Flintstone Theming: Banking.
- Aquatine: Sussy B: Duck: Winged Flight and control over water to the point of transforming into water: Almost certainly a water fowl.
- Greenback: Franklin: Turtle: The Leader with the impregnable shell.
- Hurlwind: Hamilton: Squirrel: Infallible marksmanship and catapult tail that launches trick acorns: Think Green Arrow as an anthropomorphic animal.
- Torro-Nada: Jackson: Bovine: Flight via command over winds.
- Ursa Major: Grant: Bear: Sizeshifter, but so far he has not shrunk to smaller than usual size.
- Veloci-Rabbit: Penny: Rabbit: A classic speedster, perhaps with super hearing.
- Harmless Villain: Many of the villains on the show are pretty non-malicious, even if given the opportunity.
- Pun: The show loves them, such as Home Base being in the Centcinnati head bank.
- Secret Identity: The setting consists of Lions and Tigers and Humans... Oh, My!. However, the Centsables hide their identities from the general population; seemingly deconstructed, possibly because the heroes appear to be six well-known bank employees in costumes.
- Slice of Life: Banking, again.
- Mission Control: The human Buck user of Forensic Phlebotinum, whose face is always obscured, kind of like a good guy version of Dr. Claw.
- Not Growing Up Sucks: The villain Bouncing Baby Boy looks much like an infant, but is in reality a Mad Scientist of indeterminate age specializing in gadgets.
- Very Special Episode: Downplayed, but every episode features some surprisingly dark moments of subtext such as "vitamins" being used to make a character feel adequate in life, running away with a "child-like genius" to get a perfect life, identity theft gangs, and pretty decent people willing to look the other way for one reason or another enabling crime to happen.
