Sindy: The Fairy Princess is 2003 British animated film directed by Richard Allport.

On Christmas Eve, two children, Molly (Jessica Sheffield) and Tom (Joe Williams), place their toys in their room and go to bed. Amongst Molly's gifts is a fairy doll named Sindy (Cate Debenham-Taylor).

Sindy wakes to find herself in a forest where she is greeted by three busy fairies - Bluebell, Lilly and Poppy. Whilst our new friends are becoming acquainted, they hear an evil laugh thundering through the forest causing the kingdom to shake. The three fairies explain to Sindy the laugh belongs to the evil wizard Azbar (Rik Mayall).

Poppy uses her magic to fly Sindy around the Kingdom where they meet the handsome Prince Hugo (Marc Silk). Prince Hugo has been looking for a bride and must be married by his 18th birthday in order to save the kingdom from the evil Wizard Azbar and his magical wand Ulebus. He has seen every suitor in the Kingdom but the Prince wishes to marry for love. On meeting, the two of them instantly fall in love and the Prince invites Sindy and the fairies to his birthday party. Using his evil magic, Azbar can see the Prince and Sindy falling in love and tries every wicked plan up his sleeve to make sure that they never see each other again. With the help of the three fairies and a mysterious unicorn called Shay, Sindy swears to overcome Azbar and earn her happy ending with Hugo.

Sindy: Fairy Princes has examples of the following tropes:

  • Abhorrent Admirer: One of Prince Hugo's admirers is a short, ugly, hideous aged woman. He visibly retches when she calls his name and tries to flirt with him.
  • Animesque: The pixies have anime-like eyes that fit with their chibi appearances.
  • Beauty Equals Goodness: Sindy is beautiful as well as kind-hearted, while Hugo is said to be handsome but is rather aloof. Azbar, however, is very ugly, and you can guess what his alignment is.
  • Butt-Monkey: The aforementioned old lady. She's rejected by Hugo, and then Azbar takes on her appearance to dupe Sindy, while knocking her out cold the entire time.
  • Chick Magnet: Prince Hugo is swooned over by many women, including one of the pixies and the titular Sindy.
  • Even Bad Men Love Their Mamas: Azbar loves his parents and has a portrait in his castle. He gloats to them that he will be the Emperor soon.
  • Expy:
    • Sindy is an obvious one of Barbie, being a blonde doll who's sweet, wears a lot of pink and loves singing. Sindy's parent company even faced a lawsuit from Hasbro studios over their similarities.
    • Lily, Poppy and Bluebell are ones of the three fairies from Sleeping Beauty.
  • Flowers of Femininity: The pixies initially mistake Sindy for Azbar, but when they're sure she's just a girl, they welcome her and one uses her magic powers to add a flower to her hair. In a later scene, they construct a bed for her made of many different types of flowers.
  • Friend to All Living Things: Another reminder as to how Sindy is a Barbie Expy - animals just seem to love her and follow her wherever she goes.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Sindy has long, blonde hair and is a polite and caring young lady; it is her sweet personality that causes Hugo to fall in love with her.
  • Homeless Hero: Sindy is this; she's seen sleeping outside as she's a newcomer to the kingdom with no memories of her past.
  • An Ice Person: Azbar has ice-based powers, and he uses them to trap Sindy in his castle to cut her off from Hugo.
  • Love at First Sight: Hugo falls in love with Sindy almost immediately, singing about how she's "the perfect girl that will set me free" afterwards.
  • May–December Romance: One of Prince Hugo's suitors is old enough to be his grandmother. His parents are confused as to why he's disgusted with the idea of dating her.
  • Merchandise-Driven: The film was made to sell the Sindy doll.
  • Odd Name Out: The three pixies that accompany Sindy are called Lily, Poppy and Bluebell.
  • Our Fairies Are Different: Here, the fairies are responsible for "putting the sun to bed and waking up the moon".
  • Pink Is Feminine: Guess what colours Sindy's clothes are?
  • Pink Girl, Blue Boy: Sindy wears a pale pink dress, while Hugo wears a blue-purple shirt with white sleeves.
  • Royal Brat: Hugo is cold and aloof, and his parents mention that he's been unable to get along with every girl in the kingdom.
  • Shipper on Deck: Lily, Poppy and Bluebell want Sindy to court Hugo because they believe it will save their kingdom.
  • Unicorn: Sindy is assisted by a white unicorn named Shay, who's also a friend of the pixies.
  • Winged Humanoid: As pixies, Lily, Poppy and Bluebell have pink fairy wings.
