Taimanin Task Force

    In general
  • Amazon Brigade: Although the main character is male, and at least some of his classmates are too, all playable characters and nearly all unlockable Supporters are female.
  • Badass Crew: The Taimanin task force is a group comprised of super-powered, Demon Slaying ninja, Cyborg super-soldiers from the UFS, and the odd demonic defector who's chosen to live with humans peacefully rather than try to dominate or destroy them.
  • Badass Teacher: Any of the faculty members of Gosha Academy that are also Taimanins qualify as such.
  • Man of Kryptonite: All Taimanin can channel "taima particles" through both their physical attacks and their Taimanin Arts, which scramble demonic powers and interfere with demons' Healing Factor. This is why they stand a chance against even super-demons whose dread powers can warp reality.
  • Ms. Fanservice: For the most part, the playable characters qualify with their Sensual Spandex and ridiculously curvy figures. Given the source material is an eroge series, this is to be expected.
  • Ninja Brat: Some of the playable Taimanin and supporters like Sakura and Yukikaze are high school freshmen, and the youngest may still be in Middle School, but they're still as dangerous as the adults like Asagi or Murasaki.

Leader

    Kotaro Fuuma

Kotaro Fuuma

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fuuma_kotarou_2_2.png
Voiced by: Wataru Hatano
The main character. Last scion of a diminished ninja clan whose father attempted to rise in rebellion and was almost entirely destroyed. Only Kotaro, and a handful of close retainers, including his half-sister, remain, and they survived by remaining loyal to Asagi and throwing in their lot with them.

Kotaro's Ninja Art is dormant, leaving him poorly-suited for combat compared to his superhuman teammates, but he is a clever and capable organizer, and was placed in command and control of the Task Force. He monitors missions through his command drone, and generally serves as support personnel in the field.

  • Accidental Pervert: Kotaro sometimes ends up in situations that would make him look like a perverted creep even if he didn't mean to, such as accidentally losing his balance and touching Serika Tachibana's thigh and stomach.
  • Adaptation Explanation Extrication: In RPG, there's eventually an (admittedly convoluted) explanation for why Kotarou never awakened his Taimanin Art, and it's never made clear in Action. Then again, that Kotarou also ended up with a completely different powerset that this Kotarou doesn't seem to have.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: In this timeline, Kurenai and Kotaro are childhood friends, and his romantic relationship with his half-sister Tokiko remains subtextual rather than textual.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Lilim and Minasaki call him "boss."
  • Ambiguously Bi: It's less explicit than in the actually-pornographic installments of the franchise, but it's worth noting that Kotarou's relationships with both of the explicitly-male Taimanin characters that have been given focus (and one potentially male Taimanin) are just as fraught with sexual tension as the ladies. Of course, in all three cases, they still look pretty feminine, and Homare Nao seems to retain his hobby of dressing in women's clothing for fun. When Hebiko is drugged into a violently jealous frenzy during an event, it's not Kotarou's interactions with any of the female students that pushes her over the edge, but his "bromance" with Shikanosuke.
  • Authority in Name Only: Kotaro is technically the heir and leader of the Fuuma clan, being Danjo's direct biological son and thus the last legitimate offspring of him still living. But because of his young age, rather lazy nature, and because the clan was decimated by the Fuuma revolt, the day-to-day minutia of managing the few remaining clan holdings more often fall to Tokiko (who actually bosses him around as she's his more responsible older half-sister), and Amane and Saika handle the more complex and serious parts of the job (as the two retainers that have been serving the clan the longest).
  • Badass Normal: For a given value of "normal", since he is still able to handle normal human Mooks relatively easily, but he has no Ninja Art. he knows this and has come to term with it, preferring to serve as Mission Control where he won't be a hindrance to his superhuman comrades.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Kotaro is a decent and mild-mannered guy, but when push comes to shove, he is probably the last person you want to try piss him off.
  • Blue Is Heroic: Kotaro has blue hair, and playable Saika's Intimacy Event shows he wears a blue Taimanin suit. Kotaro is also the compassionate and supportive leader of the Taimanin Task Force.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: It's repeatedly noted that he often gets bad grades even in classes where his lack of supernatural powers wouldn't be an issue. He claims that this is due to bad luck and the pressure of operating the Task Force on top of his normal schoolwork, but he does sometimes seem to be playing hooky to pick up new video games instead of training.
  • Butt-Monkey: Despite being the POV character, Fuuma regularly ends up being humiliated, ridiculed, misunderstood, coerced, or forced to endure some other misfortune during or at the end of a story arc.
  • Character Development: He comes to believe he owes it to the task force to put his life on the line like they do, and after sacrificing his command drone to distract an enemy he starts spending more battles on the front line with them. Learning that Toyo Momochi is also a Taimanin who despite his brains and skills couldn't ever awaken his Taimanin Art helps Kotaro reflect on how he himself has come to heal from his self-loathing on the subject over time.
  • Chick Magnet: Fuuma gets Ship Tease with plenty of the female Taimanin and even some of the villainesses. One of the gifts for raising a Taimanin's affinity that is guaranteed to be a level 3 gift is a Fuuma plush.
  • Clueless Chick-Magnet: There are so many girls that are/will be in love with him that Eleonor couldn't predict his "love future" at all, as there were hundreds of possibilities for it. Despite that, Kotaro is completely blind to it, and actually sometimes wonder if he will ever get a girlfriend.
  • Childhood Friends: With Kurenai Shinganji, which is an original element from Action Taimanin.
  • Commonality Connection:
    • Kotaro became friends with Mai Nanase, Shisui Amamiya and Mari Shinohara over a shared interest in reading.
    • In Spinel's Intimacy Event, Kotaro and the former find common ground over the fact they have nagging subordinates, Tokiko and Lapis, respectively, who act like their mothers while also giving them allowances.
  • Composite Character: He's a combination of TABA Kotaro and Tatsuro Akiyama, Rinko's little brother from Taimanin Yukikaze as Yukikaze has more interactions with Kotaro, due to Tatsuro being Adapted Out, much less mentioned.
  • Determinator: His quality that finally wins over Su Jinglei is his unshakable determination, even in the face of failure and setbacks.
  • Eyeless Face: The game makes sure to never show Fuuma's eyes whenever he appears onscreen even when the audience should see his one functioning eye. The only time we do see his eye is on the Fuuma Plush.
  • Face of a Thug: Fuuma still has the same tan-skinned, creepily grinning character design as his original Battle Arena incarnation, even though that version of him was a Handsome Lech and sadistic rapist while this Fuuma is a stand-up guy who barely even qualifies for Chivalrous Pervert.
  • Fighter, Mage, Thief: Unusually for a main character, Kotaro is firmly the "Thief" in his three person friend group of himself, Shikanosuke, and Hebiko. As the only one of the three with no Taimanin Art, he relies on his brilliant tactical mind, charisma, and technical skills to contribute, and if he's going to land a hit in a fight it's probably a cheap shot taking advantage of openings his friends help create.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: A heroic example. Fuuma's growth as an individual reminds the player that you don't have the need to learn your own ninjutsu to be a Taimanin, the more he grows a spine, the more he becomes a competent and effective leader. His strategic skills is enough to earn the respect of high-ranking demons like the King of the Death Wraiths and even Edwin Black himself, while being feared by all of demonkind at the same time.
  • Guile Hero: Fuuma manages to talk Oboro into spilling useful information without torture by convincing her he actually intends to let her go if she does, all without actually promising anything of the kind.
  • Irony: Kotaro Fuma often laments his inability to awaken his Taimanin Art, and the discrimination he's suffered from his own clan and other Taimanin in the process. But in the branch of the franchise that follows a timeline where he did successfully awaken his art, a mixture of its Power Parasite nature and being actively raised by his monstrous father molded him into a sadistic criminal kingpin and monstrous rapist rather than the mostly stand-up guy he is in Action.
  • Last-Name Basis: No one refers to him as Kotaro, with the narration only doing so when other Fuumas are present. Especially notable considering that almost everyone else is on First-Name Basis with each other.
  • Likes Older Women: As shown with his Inner Monologue in regards to Rin, Kotaro is also attracted to some of the older Taimanin.
  • Mission Control: He follows the other Taimanin with his command drone, and radios the operatives in the field to share useful information mid-mission. He also handles hacking and navigation. After his drone gets blown-up during the disastrous second major expedition to Venam, he starts accompanying the Task Force in person, refusing to sit back and monitor his drones while sending them into danger.
  • Muggle Born of Mages: He is one of the few unlucky Gosha inhabitants that are born without a Ninja Art. Some characters theorize that he could have one, but be an extremely late bloomers.
  • Named After Somebody Famous: The semi-legendary Kotaro Fuuma of the Edo period.
  • Nice Guy: Kotaro will gladly help anyone who needs it, and is at worst slightly rude to those who wronged him at some point, such as Felicia.
  • Non-Action Guy: Kotaro isn't well-suited to straight-up fights, but he's very good at what he does. He does get into direct combat rarely, but whenever he does, it's usually to stall and buy time until stronger help can arrive.
  • Not Quite the Right Thing: After defeating Edwin Black in chapter 19, Kotaro spares him, reasoning that the Evil Power Vacuum that would entail should Black die makes keeping him alive the better choice. As story events following that and the next story chapter show, the mere fact that Black was defeated at all has caused Nomad's reputation to plummet, multiple factions to break away from it, and Astaroth revealing Toyo's informations to the world caused extreme tensions within and between multiple world powers anyways.
  • Only Sane Man: Being the only man in charge of the Taimanin task force, which consists of mostly female ninjas on the frontlines with otherworldly associates with their own fair share of quirks, Fuuma is generally more reasonable and level-headed even when under pressure, and rarely reacts with foul temper, especially in certain Intimacy episodes.
  • Rage Breaking Point:
    • Momochi viewing his own followers as expendables by having them inject a Psycho Serum that turns them into mindless beasts to justify his endgame is enough to make Kotaro snap and Momochi earning his ire.
    • Played out humorously in Merci's Intimacy Event. She had a habit of claiming Kotaro's bed as hers, stealing his lunch right beside him, and finding and using his allowance on her own. Fuuma was going easy on Merci because she's a girl but reaches his limit when she lies on her bed on time too many. Merci just mocks him causing him to scream in frustration and a struggle to get her off the bed ensues.
  • Took a Level in Badass: It's more subtle than other characters, but Kotaro's growing confidence as the story progress also comes with him becoming stronger as well, going from barely holding his own against even normal human Mooks to being able to fight multiple at once and even beat some of the lowest-ranked demons on his own.
  • Screams Like a Little Girl: Can hit an impressively high note when faced with intimidating odds in the Intimacy Events, whether he's riding a motorcycle with Homura Sanada or chased by a boar.
  • Situational Sociability: Kotaro is fully capable of having normal conversations with girls but if someone comes onto him, he quickly loses composure.
  • Upbringing Makes the Hero: Unlike his Battle Arena incarnation, this Kotarou's inability to awaken his Taimanin Art meant that his father dismissed him as a possible heir from a young age and put little effort into actually raising him. That and the Fuuma Rebellion meant that Kotaro was mostly raised by his half-sister Tokiko instead, and this is why Battle Arena's Kotarou is an evil crime boss and a sadistic serial rapist while this Kotarou is a fundamentally good man and a respectable upcoming Taimanin. (In fairness, if RPG is any indication, the Battle Arena version of his father was also a significantly worse person than later incarnations to boot!)
  • Warrior Therapist: Aside from commanding and fighting, Kotaro has also shown some psychological wit, being able to analyze and deconstruct Toyo Momochi's actions and motivations and snap Misaki Sengen out of her Chronic Hero Syndrome-induced anxiety while the latter is confined to the hospital and views herself as unable to perform any good deeds.

Playable

    Asagi Igawa

Asagi Igawa

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/igawa_asagi_43.png
The Almighty
"I'm the head of the Taimanins, Igawa Asagi. Nice to meet you."
Voiced by: Ami Koshimizu (formerly)/Sayumi Watabe (currently)

Leader of all Taimanin, commonly known as the Almighty Taimanin. She utilizes physical capabilities and master swordsmanship, as well as her ability to move at the speed of light, to win battles. During her mission in Tokyo Kingdom, she awakened a demonic power within herself, further enhancing her ninjutsu.

She is the headmistress of the Gosha Academy, a government-founded educational institute for young Taimanin. Her weapon of choice is a ninja katana.

  • The Ace: Asagi is Famed In-Story as an exemplar of what it is to be Taimanin: strong-willed, virtuous and wise, a mighty warrior, intelligent tactician, patient and capable teacher, and so much more.
  • Badass Biker: In the Asagi: Bridge Race Special Mode, Asagi uses a motorcycle to collect coins and temporary upgrades while avoiding obstacles.
  • Badass in a Nice Suit: Asagi can equip her headmistress outfit or her butler outfit in the field, and her Butler supporter wears a suit by default.
  • The Call Knows Where You Live: She was actually planning to retire from her service as a Taimanin and get together with her civilian lover some years in the past. Cue Oboro abducting the guy and putting him, Asagi and Sakura through quite a few things, let's just say it wasn't pretty) until Asagi had to Mercy Kill him...
  • Death from Above: Her Rakusenka has her hit her target with a downward slash by teleporting above her enemy. This is also carried over from her Hirenka, of which the final hit is from the Rakusenka.
  • Deuteragonist: Asagi is the overall mascot character of the Taimanin series all while being the authority-in-figure of all Taimanins. In this game, Kotaro is the main character, thus making Asagi as this.
  • Heartbroken Badass: Even after all those years, she still mourns the loss of her lover.
  • Herd-Hitting Attack: Her basic attacks tend towards wide swings that can cleave into multiple targets at once.
  • Jack of All Stats: Her playstyle is very well-rounded, and her skillset contains abilities useful in a variety of situations.
  • Living Legend: Her reputation as the Almighty Taimanin is already spoken of as a lore among other Taimanins.
  • Purple Is Powerful: Asagi, the "Almighty Taimanin", wears a purple Taimanin suit.
  • Speed Blitz: Her Ninja Art lets her accelerate herself so fast she seems to be in six places at once. This is readily seen with her Ultimate, as well as her Koujinka Skill to a lesser extent which seems to make everyone but her move in slow motion.
  • Simple, yet Awesome: It's worth noting that even after more than a decade of Power Creep, Asagi is still considered the strongest Taimanin in the setting, because even though her Speed Blitz isn't that complicated, it's endlessly strong and useful, and the woman using it is a master swordfighter with a brilliant mind who's good at everything else a Taimanin is supposed to be good at.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: On the job, she projects a no-nonsense attitude that shows why she commands a lot of respect among her peers and why she's feared by her enemies; when alone with those close to her, she shows her softer side.
  • Time Master: Her Koujinka slows down time, allowing Asagi to move normally for a short second. But this requires her to time an enemy attack to activate the ability.
  • Willfully Weak: An interaction between her and Shiranui all but states that, when on missions with Gosha agents, Asagi is purposefully holding back so she can see them in action and evaluate their skills.
  • Wolverine Publicity: She is the Series Mascot of the Taimanin series, and it's not hard to see why. Even in this game, she doesn't appear in certain chapters of the Main Quest even if you play as her. The same can be said in other sidequests.
  • The Worf Effect: In Chapter 10, Asagi tries for a surprise attack on Astaroth and not only completely fails to hurt her, but is actually wounded and has her weapon melted in the attempt, to establish that The Queen of the Inferno is someone they should get away from as fast as possible.

    Sakura Igawa

Sakura Igawa

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/igawa_sakura_57.png
The Young Taimanin
"Taimanin Sakura, at your service! Teehee!"
Voiced by: Haato Satoyama

Asagi's younger sister. Always bright and friendly. A young girl who gives off both a gorgeous and cheerful vibe.

Born with a rare ninja art just like her sister, she is a ninja who uses "Shadow Art". She became a Taimanin over her sister's objections, because she wanted to fight for justice like Asagi.

Sakura has helped her sister in multiple missions, and even if she isn't as well-known, she has made a name for herself as an exemplary Taimanin. She uses twin ninja daggers as her main weapon.

Believes she has a good relationship with Yatsu Murasaki, who actually despises Sakura, and only looks up to Asagi. She is often on missions with Murasaki when not with her sister. To other Taimanin, the duo are known as "Sakumura".

  • Badass Adorable: A young, plucky Taimanin who kicks ass inside and outside of the battlefield.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: She tends to be rather childish and goofy outside of battle, but she is still a force to be reckoned with.
  • Casting a Shadow: Her Ninja Art lets her manipulate, shape, give solid mass to, and teleport between shadows.
  • Dual Wielding: Sakura fights with two knives at once.
  • Gamer Chick: It's shown in her intimacy scene that Sakura likes to play video games in her free time.
  • Genki Girl: Sakura tends to be loud and energetic compared to her reserved sister, with a more childish side.
  • Glass Cannon: Sakura's two-knife style is very, very good at taking a single target to pieces very quickly, but she has lower health and defense than her sister and she can't fight groups as easily.
  • Oblivious to Hatred: Sakura thinks she has a good relationship with Murasaki but in truth, the latter can't stand her.
  • Plucky Girl: No matter the hardships she and her comrades face as Taimanin, Sakura remains cheerful and somewhat childish.
  • The Pollyanna: Sakura keeps Task Force's morale up, and has more connections to local businesses than her coworkers.
  • Pop-Cultured Badass: This Taimanin loves video games, comics and anime.
  • Retcon: Originally, Action was supposed to include both an older and younger Sakura, with the latter from another world, as is the case in RPGX, but most of the lines were cut or rewritten. The end result is that this is seemingly the only Sakura in existence, though much younger and with a bigger age, skill, and power gap between her and her sister than typically portrayed.
  • Spin Attack: Sakura's Shadow Cleave attack has her revolve with her arms stretching out from the sides while she instantly teleports to the targeted enemy.

    Yukikaze Mizuki

Yukikaze Mizuki

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mizuki_yukikaze_4.png
Lightning Bolt
"I'll show you the power of the lightning bolt!"
Voiced by: Yui Kanbe

Taimanin, student of Gosha Academy. Although still a student, she frequently takes on missions, and she is expected to be a leading force of the new generation of Taimanin. She often works with her senior Akiyama Rinko on missions, and is known as the Lightning Bolt for her Ninja Art, which allows her to create destructive bolts of electricity. She fights with paired pistols that channel and control her electrical powers.

She is almost perfect, except for her temper and pride. Very few know that she is quite shy with strangers.

  • A-Cup Angst: Yukikaze is quite insecure about her small breast size and is easily angered when someone mocks her for it or compares her to the more voluptuous Taimanin, especially her mother and Rinko.
  • Aren't You Going to Ravish Me?: Implied. When the team has to pass a checkpoint and the guards take advantage of it to grope Shiranui, Kotaro notes that Yukikaze doesn't seem angry as much as jealous that she wasn't manhandled as well.
  • Berserk Button: The easiest way to upset Yukikaze is to insult her small breast size, which happens quite a lot.
  • Blood Knight: She's one of the Taimanin who gets most excited about the prospect of fighting.
  • Brutal Honesty: She doesn't handle Su with kid gloves, laying into her smug attitude and the fact that the Chinese Union, which Su is fiercely patriotic towards at first, is a brutal police state whose citizens are more afraid than proud.
  • Guns Akimbo: Her weapons are a pair of flintlock pistol-esque Taima Shooters, modified to fire her tempered Ninja Art rather than ammo.
  • Hot-Blooded: Yukikaze gets excited about fighting the enemy and is quite irritable when things go awry.
  • Long-Range Fighter: Yukikaze is the only starting character to use ranged attacks as primary weapons. Enemies who get inside her reach give her a hard time, but she can throw down a lot of firepower to make sure they don't get there easily.
  • Mage Marksman: A mix of the the "Gunman" and "Archer" types, as while she makes heavy use of her guns, they're conduits through which she channels her electricity powers rather than firing actual bullets.
  • Power Limiter: Her gun's true purpose is to keep her immense power in check and to keep her aim precise instead of going overboard.
  • Shock and Awe: Her Ninja Art lets her control and channel electricity at deadly voltages.
  • Yellow Lightning, Blue Lightning: Nearly all her lightning abilities are colored in a yellow-ish green.

    Rinko Akiyama

Rinko Akiyama

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/akiyama_rinko_20.png
Savage Hunter
"Ittoryu acting master, Akiyama Rinko. Justice calls upon me."
Voiced by: Hana Satomi

Yukikaze's partner, Rinko Akiyama is another young Taimanin prodigy who still serves as a field agent. More cool-headed and reserved than her temperamental teammate, her Ninja Art, "Void" allows her to teleport herself and other objects within a certain radius and create space-time warps which suck enemies in. Rinko's favored weapon is the long-katana with sheathe, for quick-draw attacks.

  • Adaptational Badass: Rinko's range with her Void Art is one kilometer in the game, but in Action she can teleport meteors from space with both her Ultimate and her Meteor Drop skill.
  • Berserk Button: Similar to her partner, Yukikaze, making fun of her large chest is a quick way to make her angry.
  • Childhood Friends: With Rinka Shido, and are together known as "the Double Rin of the Taimanin."
  • Colony Drop: Two of her highest-damage moves involve pulling in high-velocity space debris to crush enemies.
  • D-Cup Distress: Just as her best friend and Platonic Life Partner Yukikaze wishes she were curvy like Rinko, Rinko wishes she were small and cute like Yukikaze; in her Intimacy Event with Kotaro she repeatedly assumes he likes Yukikaze more than her when he's late to an arranged meeting.
  • Difficult, but Awesome: Rinko doesn't have Sakura's single-target damage or the inherent advantages of being ranged like Yukikaze, and compared to Asagi her attacks are a bit slower and do less damage to health and Super Armor. However, she has powerful and useful skills when properly aligned (Meteor Drop in particular hits like the fist of an angry god with three blue Supports, and some of her moves can manipulate enemy positioning to a degree other playable characters cannot), and the final hit of her combo string creates a storm of slashes that hits every enemy in a huge radius in front of her for multiple attacks and high damage.
  • Gravity Master: Rinko can also use the Void Art to create miniature singularities and draw enemies in.
  • Iaijutsu Practitioner: She carries her longsword in a sheathe for quick-draw attacks, and many of her skills involve rapid slashes.
  • Master Swordsman: Her father personally instructed Asagi in swordplay... and Rinko is considered nearly his equal.
  • Purple Is Powerful: Like Asagi, Rinko wears a purple Taimanin suit, and is shown to be one of the stronger Taimanin in the game. Rinko also has purple eyes and hair to boot.
  • Space Master: Rinko's Void Art lets her both teleport (her dodge animation is noticeably different from her peers' for this reason) and teleport others, willingly or unwillingly.
  • The Tease: Shows a surprising side of this during her [Master] Intimacy Story towards Kotaro when he suggests going into a hot spring together, only for her to mischievously point out how intimate a proposition it sounded.
  • Underboobs: She has a Cleavage Window on the lower side of her Taimanin Suit's chest area.

    Murasaki Yatsu

Murasaki Yatsu

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yatsu_murasaki_9.png
The Undying
"Taimanin Yatsu Murasaki. So, you're the captain, huh? Nice to meet you."
Voiced by: Nami Nakano

A teacher of Gosha Academy who is an active Taimanin along with her brother Kuro Yatsu, and is expected to take Asagi's place as the Taimanin captain of the next generation. She appears cold and stern on the surface but she is much kinder than she lets on. Murasaki practices the "Awakened Immortal" ninja art, allowing her to literally become immortal while having superhuman restoration abilities, and the only way to kill her is to destroy both the heart and the brain simultaneously. Murasaki's ninja art grants her increased power and agility, allowing her to swing her giant axe without much issue.

  • Adaptational Badass: When using her ultimate, Murasaki sprouts several Combat Tentacles from her back, which she was only able to do in the visual novel after performing a Fusion Dance with Sabato Kiryuu.
  • Amazonian Beauty: Murasaki is one of the physically strongest Taimanin, and both Kotaro and especially Kiryu find her attractive.
  • Contralto of Strength: Murasaki is one of the stronger Taimanin on par with Asagi and Shiranui as well as a stern teacher, befitting her one of the deepest female voices in the game.
  • Drill Sergeant Nasty:
    • Murasaki is a very kind and thoughtful woman but will inflict maximum disciplinary measures on anyone who underperforms or doesn't take their duties seriously.
    • Even when Kotaro himself becomes a teacher to some academy students in an event, the reminder that Murasaki will supervise him too frightens him as much as it does the cadets.
  • Healing Factor: And a fairly powerful one at that, as it is stated she can regenerate her entire body as long as her heart or brain are intact. It also comes with, and is very handy in training, Super-Strength.
  • Hypocrite: She dislikes Kiryu's creepy behavior, even though she herself displays similarly creepy behavior regarding her infatuation towards Asagi.
  • Kind Hearted Cat Lover: Murasaki's bio states she likes cats but the feeling is unmutual as they apparently fear her.
  • Mighty Glacier: Murasaki's attacks have long wind-up times but high damage output, and her healing counter skill can make her one of the toughest characters in the game.
  • Mundane Utility: It's suggested that her super-regeneration actually helps her work out her muscles without risking injury or over-training, helping explain why her Super-Strength is immense even among Taimanin.
  • Super-Strength: She wields extremely heavy axes with relative ease and her Playable Intimacy scene shows her lifting 210 kg with more ease than Kotaro has to lift 30.
  • Tomboyish Ponytail: Her hair is tied in a long, blue ponytail that flips wildly while swinging her axe.
  • Weapon-Based Characterization: Her greataxe she uses in battle shows off both her discipline and well as her Super-Strength.

    Su Jinglei

Su Jinglei

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/su_jinglei_8.png
The Chinese Taimanin
"Su Jinglei, from the PLA. So you must be the captain?"
Voiced by: Marina Inoue

A soldier from the Chinese Union, sent as a liason with the Task Force during their first mission. Her great-grandfather was a Taimanin who married a Chinese woman and settled down, and she has some Taimanin heiritage. While she is familiar with Asagi, and respects her enormously, she is, initially, much colder to the rest of the Task Force. Becomes a playable character later down the line, using a pair of Power Fists for combat.

  • Animal-Themed Superbeing: Su actually turns out to be a Beast Art user, although not a Beast Transformer. Her animal? Fittingly, given her origins, a dragon.
  • Berserk Button: Calling her "cute" will earn you a Death Glare but if you insult her small cup-size, she'll give you a censored rant in retaliation.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: She slowly goes from a critic of all the other members of the Task Force (except Asagi anyway) to becoming a Taimanin like them and friends with them during the events of the first five chapters.
  • Heel Realization: Originally a proud and patriotic servant of the Chinese Union, but after Yukikaze points out that the various nations China has vassalized chafe under its yoke, seeing first-hand the misrule in Venam, and being all-but threatened with death for her failure should she return, she decides to embrace her heritage and throw in her lot with the Taimanin instead; symbolically dressing like one of them instead of her Chinese army uniform. That said, an early event establishes she still has a decent enough relationship with her parents who support her choice, and they are not being persecuted because of her.
  • McNinja: Su is a Chinese national who takes up the mantle of a ninja, though she is apparently one-quarter Japanese through a Taimanin great-grandparent.
  • Not So Above It All: Su tries to position herself as the dignified, professional soldier to the squabbling Taimanin around her, but she regularly demonstrates that however she tries to present herself she's still just a normal teenage girl under it all. Even the serious and professional Su Jinglei struggles to keep a straight face while witnessing Lilim and Minasaki's laughably bad acting during one of the annual special camps, even though she insists she's not smirking.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: As short and petite as Yukikaze, but Su's incredible strength belies her small, slight stature. Many of her attack animations see her wrecking the ground with every punch.
  • Power Gives You Wings: Invoking her Super Mode causes Su to channel her dragon power into energy wings, as well as sheathing her arms in energy blades. She then Power Floats for the duration of her Ultimate.
  • Super Mode: Rather than a huge screen-clearing damage ability, her Ultimate instead grants her invincibility for its duration, making her immune to any damage or status effect and changing her basic attacks to be harder-hitting and striking a huge area for about ten seconds.
  • Token Wholesome: Subverted. She starts out wearing a modest, frumpy People's Army uniform and beret, but at the end of the campaign she's switched to a typically-flattering Taimanin suit.
  • Tsundere: After Chapter 5, she's seemingly picked up a crush on Fuuma, and expresses it by coming to his house to try to force him to be more diligent and hard-working in the morning.
  • Wise Beyond Their Years: Played with. While Su is pretty knowledgeable with government affairs even for her age and appearance, her arrogance derails this during her first appearances in the Main Quest, thus finding herself in hot water because of the task force's failures. Luckily, she takes full responsibility by remaining with the task force and still remains knowledgeable with political and government affairs.

The Phantom
"Taimanin Shiranui. I'm still more powerful than Yukikaze."
Voiced by: Harumi Asai

Yukikaze's mother, and a powerful and well-respected Taimanin in her own right. Shiranui uses polearm weapons, and her Ninja Art can manipulate water.

  • Action Mom: Shiranui is one of the more experienced Taimanin of the current generation and still better than her daughter, Yukikaze.
  • Adaptational Badass: Notable because in the Yukikaze games she's been kidnapped and brainwashed twice, without getting to show her stuff except as a tool against her own daughter. Here she's one of the most powerful Taimanin in the world, arguably even more than Murasaki, as Asagi's right-hand woman.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Her entry in the story in chapter 10 comes when she drops in just in time to save the Task Force from Astaroth. Unusually for this trope, she's clearly not strong enough to defeat the demon, but helps turn the fight into a less one-sided stomp and buy the team enough time to get to safety.
  • The Creon: Shiranui's presence is a major point of divergence from most other timelines in the Taimanin franchise, since she's able to serve as Asagi's loyal and extremely capable right-hand woman, and to lend her considerable power and organizational skills to situations that would go very badly without her. She also frees up Murasaki from having to assume the role, in which she would be competent but not great, allowing her to instead focus on the teaching and instruction jobs Murasaki is genuinely great at.
  • Elemental Shapeshifter: She can physically transform her body into water to avoid attacks.
  • Feminine Mother, Tomboyish Daughter: She has a relaxed and flirtatious temperament compared to her hot-blooded and impetuous daughter.
  • Like Father, Unlike Son: While she and her daughter share some obvious physical traits, such as hair and eye color, they are very different in temperament, figure, haircut, fighting style, elemental powers, and everything else. Notably, despite being such strong visual and characterization foils, they seem to have a decent relationship.
  • Making a Splash: She can hurl water as projectiles with great force, use it to slide around the battlefield with her mobility skills, or add cutting power and pressure to her attacks.
  • Naginatas Are Feminine: It's probably not a coincidence that the most traditionally-Japanese woman on the task force is also the one wielding a polearm. This is another divergence from the source material where she preferred poisoned claws.
  • Shipper on Deck: In the Intimacy Event for her New Year's Eve Supporter version, she expresses approval of the idea of her daughter, Yukikaze, getting together with Kotaro.
  • Team Mom: Out of all the playable Taimanin, she's one of the only ones who's been explicitly mentioned to have domestic skills, probably because she's the only one to balance her career with being a homemaker at some point.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: In every other iteration of the franchise, Shiranui is a deeply tragic figure, used as a brainwashed Sex Slave by various demonic monsters until she's willing and able to do unspeakable things to her own daughter. Here, having avoided that fate, Shiranui is living a fairly happy life and serving as one of the most powerful and capable Taimanin in the world, while being able to raise her own daughter as a mother.

    Emily Simmons

UFS Cooperator
"Emily Simmons, from the UFS. Pleased to meet you."
Voiced by: Saki Minami

A UFS scientist who the task force encountered during a mission at Kotrara Island. Emily believes science and technology are mankind's greatest achievements and has shown interest in the Taimanin's superhuman skills, hoping to find a way to make them available to everyone.

Emily uses a combat exoskeleton in battle that allows her to fight the enemy with high-tech weapons.

  • Badass Adorable: She's a perky Science Hero with a heart of gold who uses her technology to help those in need.
  • Badass Normal: Explicitly not supernaturally empowered like most Taimanin, she gets on by with her exoskeleton and flying turret drone.
  • Canon Foreigner: Never having appeared in the main series, this is Emily's first appearance in the Taimanin franchise.
  • Cyborg: It's not as obvious or extensive as the other Machine-type characters, but Emily's body does incorporate some cybernetic implants to interface with her gear and channel Taima particles. It's also one of her explicit specializations; she studies the Taimanin's superhuman bodies hoping to gain scientific knowledge to advance the field of prosthetics.
  • Death of a Thousand Cuts: She does not deal a lot of damage per attack, but nobody attacks faster than her due to her fighting with a flying turret that keeps shooting as long as you hold the button or have the Zero System installed.
  • Flag Bikini: One of her outfits includes the Stars And Stripes in the sort of way you could expect from this game.
  • Geeky Turn-On: While it's not as explicit as Murasaki's outright crush on Asagi, Emily does sometimes get a bit too into the idea of studying Taimanin's bodies, especially Asagi's. While she's in it to satisfy her intellectual lust For Science! rather than sexual lust, onlookers do find it a bit perverted and creepy, and it's suggested that Emily gets an almost-sexual fulfillment out of pursuing scientific inquiry.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Emily is blonde and is one of the nicest characters in the game.
  • Photographic Memory: She's mentioned to have perfect recall as part of her characterization as a brainy scientist.
  • Powers Do the Fighting: Gameplay-wise, it is entirely possible for her to complete missions without the player touching anything since one of her skills let her turret shoots enemies without player imput and it also automatically moves her alongside the mission path. Story-wise, she is explicitly operating her drones.
  • Science Hero: Believing that science is humanity's most important asset, Emily wishes to study the Taimanin to research a way to make their superhuman attributes available to everyone in need while using her technical and scientific prowess to assist the task force.
  • Shipper on Deck: In the Intimacy Event for [Master] Akiyama Rinko, Emily thinks Rinko and Fuuma look cute together while enjoying the secret hot spring together. Yukikaze disagrees.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: Emily wears glasses, and is one of the smartest characters in the game, possessing a photographic memory that allows her to remember everything she witnesses and is a capable multitasker who has extensive scientific and technological knowledge.

    Kurenai Shinganji

Kurenai Shinganji

Crimson Maiden
"Taimanin Shinganji Kurenai, reporting for duty! Who would have thought I'd join the task force?"
Voiced by: Nanae Sakurai

Kurenai is half human and half vampire yet lives as a Taimanin, which is considered heretical among them. She was once considered the heir of the Fuuma clan and was taught swordsmanship by her grandfather, Gen-an, but this fell apart due to Fuuma Danjo's revolt. Kurenai left Fuuma's village to go solo but still helps Fuuma Kotaro due to being childhood friends.

Kurenai has mastered the Shinganji dual wield style and wields a dual pair of swords named "Shirakami" and "Koma" whom she inherited from her grandfather, which together with her ninja art "Wind Art" allows her to create a whirlwind zone.

  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: In this timeline, Kurenai and Kotaro are childhood friends, and it's unclear and ambiguous if Edwin Black is still her father or Felicia her sister. And whether or not her best friend Ayame is outright in love with her or just an extremely close Pseudo-Romantic Friendship is more ambiguous than in her solo title, where Ayame was indeed romantically attracted to Kurenai and Kurenai eventually reciprocated.
  • Ambiguously Related: Only ambiguous by virtue of not being mentionned at all. It's left unsaid if she is still the Child by Rape of Edwin Black or not in Action as she is in other parts of the franchise (which would explain her burning hatred of Black and her vampiric powers), which also makes her relationship towards Felicia (Black's daughter in all iterations of the franchise and Kurenai's half-sister in other canons) ambiguous.
  • Badass Longcoat: Wears a blue/white longcoat over her Taimanin suit, which enforces her badassery.
  • Blow You Away: Kurenai uses the Wind Art, which allows her to create gusts and tornados during combat.
  • Childhood Friends: With Kotaro Fuuma, which is an original element from Action Taimanin.
  • Cleavage Window: Her default outfit gives a good look at her breasts.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Kurenai seems to tolerate Yasuna's gambling problems since the latter's debut in the Concerto of Crimson and Red special event. In Yasuna's Intimacy Event, having stolen the task force's funds to be used as a stake to gamble in a casino in Yomihara raised a red flag, enough to make both Kurenai and Fuuma to go ballistic and chew her out publicly in front of casino goers.
  • Foil: To Asuka. Both are Half-Human Hybrid Taimanins (Kurenai is half-vampire, whereas Asuka is a Cyborg thanks to her prosthetic limbs) who have a personal beef with Edwin Black, who is also responsible for the deaths of their loved ones.
  • Friend to All Children: She likes kids and enjoys working at the Himawari orphanage. Kurenai's Intimacy Event shows her reading a book to the children of Himawari.
  • Girlish Pigtails: She typically wears pigtails in her outfits.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: She's half human, half vampire.
  • Human Mom, Non-Human Dad: Her mother is human whereas her father is a vampire.
  • I Work Alone: After Fuuma Danjo's failed revolt, Kurenai decided to disassociate herself from any other clan and go solo. In the end, she decides to join the task force after bumping into them at Tokyo Kingdom.
  • It's Personal: She hates Edwin Black for killing her mother, and jumps at any chance to return the favor.
  • Pointy Ears: From her vampire heritage.
  • Single Woman Seeks Good Man: Kurenai is implied to be in love with Kotaro and remarks on his kindness in her playable version's Intimacy Event.
  • Tornado Move: She's got a lot of them:
    • "Spiral Rend" uses a small tornado to launch the enemy into the air, before she jumps up to attack them before they fall down.
    • Her "Tornado Rend" move creates a small tornado that will damage enemies in its path. Depending on what additional effects are applied, it can either knock enemies in the air, stun them, or not move to damage the specific area where it's cast.
    • Her "Storm Zone" creates a smaller one, affecting a single enemy and knocking them up.
    • "Storm Fang" targets a single enemy and creates a huge tornado to heavily damage them.
    • Her ultimate attack, "Whirlwind Zone", inflicts extremely high damage on all enemies on-screen.
  • True Blue Femininity: Kurenai's default outfit is colored blue and while her longcoat and swordsmanship make her seem superficially masculine, she shows a strong feminine side around children and other people she cares about.
  • Wind Is Green: All her wind attacks are green-tinted.
  • You Killed My Mother: Edwin Black, the leader of Nomad and a prominent enemy of the Taimanin, killed her mother, and Kurenai won't rest until she has avenged her.

    Asuka Koukawa

Steel Reaper
"Koukawa Asuka, reporting in! Fufu, was it really necessary, between you and me? ♪"
Voiced by: Juri Nagatsuma

Asuka is the young head of the Koukawa clan that was destroyed by Edwin Black, leaving her as the only survivor. She was subsequently raised by Asagi and gained notoriety as a Taimanin at age 14 due to her high performance on dangerous missions. During a fateful encounter with Edwin Black, she ignored Asagi's orders to stay put and instead challenged the Vampire King, costing her her limbs, and she disappeared afterwards. Asuka would eventually reemerge with cybernetic replacements and sow fear among her adversaries as the "Steel Reaper."

Asuka Koukawa fights with a pair of wrist blades that she uses with her mechanical limbs to create a formidable fighting style.

  • Adaptational Intelligence: In Taimanin Asagi 3, while Asuka wasn't exactly stupid, she tended towards blunt, brute-force attempts to solving her problems, often being wasteful with her high-tech weaponry, and needed to go through Character Development as part of her story in order to emerge victorious. This Asuka not only seems to have finished all her personal growth but has taken on a command role within the UFS, although she still sometimes has her moments of childishness.
  • Arm Cannon: She shoots missiles from her wrist in her "Kill-Em-All missiles" attack.
  • Artificial Limbs: After a failed attack on the hated Edwin Black, her arms and legs were left in seriously damaged condition and she had to replace them with cybernetics. They not only store blades on her arms and legs, but a variety of other armaments like missiles and a Wave-Motion Gun.
  • Blade Below the Shoulder: Asuka primarily fights with blades attached to her wrists that emerge from her cybernetics.
  • Cyborg: She lost her arms and legs after foolishly challenging the Vampire King, Edwin Black, but they were replaced with cybernetic replacements.
  • Dressed Like a Dominatrix: During "Taimanin VS Mistress of Darkness(?)", Asuka dresses up as the skimpily dressed villain, "Mistress of Darkness", as part of an undercover mission, and is quite embarrassed about being forced to wear it at first, although by the end of the mission she's really gotten into character.
  • Foil: To Kurenai Shinganji. Both are Half-Human Hybrid Taimanins (Asuka has prosthetic limbs, making her a Cyborg whereas Kurenai is a half-vampire) that also have a personal vendetta against Edwin Black, who is responsible for the deaths of their loved ones.
  • Girly Girl: Asuka has incredibly long hair, wears pink and has girly mannerisms, making her one of the girliest Taimanin, although she has her tomboyish streaks like getting really, really into baseball.
  • It's Personal: She hates Edwin Black for annihilating the Koukawa clan and her family with it, and seeks to destroy him.
  • Kick Chick: Asuka integrates kicks into her fighting style, and her cybernetic legs sport retractable heel-blades.
  • Long Hair Is Feminine: Asuka has hair that reaches all the way to her thighs and is one of the girliest characters in the game.
  • Motherly Scientist: She has a very good relationship with Kenji Kotani, the kind, fatherly Japanese expat UFS scientist who invented and works on her cybernetics. Her Supporter version's intimacy event is getting him to take her out to a baseball game after she finds out he took his wife and kids to an amusement park.
  • Not Quite Flight: Her Wind Art lets her swoop and glide around, and her basic combo chain involves impossible spinning kicks utilizing it for extra hang-time.
  • Pink Means Feminine: She wears a pink Taimanin suit with mechanical limbs to boot and has a very girly personality.
  • Razor Wind: Her basic combo chain, when upgraded, has every move of her produce blades of wind, giving her a very slight measure of ranged attacks.
  • Sole Survivor: Asuka is the only still living member of the Koukawa clan after Edwin Black wiped it out.
  • You Killed My Father: Her family was killed when Edwin Black of Nomad destroyed the Koukawa clan, and her hatred for him hasn't withered since.
  • Wave-Motion Gun: Her ultimate, Ultra Particle Cannon, has her flying into the air and unleashing a charged beam cannon upon the battlefield.

    Kirara Onisaki

Hybrid Taimanin
"I'll help you on your missions 𝅘𝅥𝅮. Leave it to me, Onisaki Kirara!"
Voiced by: Satomi Akesaka

A half-Taimanin, half-Oni who inherited her ninja art from her Taimanin father and ice powers from her Oni mother who was known as the "Frost Phantom." Kirara uses her ice powers in battle to freeze moisture to create ice shields or to freeze her opponents but an argument she once had with her father made her decide to refuse to use her ninja art, with few knowing what kind of ninja art she uses.

  • Comically Invincible Hero: During her Supporter Intimacy scene, her brief stint at the Chaos Arena (where she joined the ring as distraction while Kotaro rummaged through documents in the office part) ends with Kirara earning the nickname "Barred from Entering", as all her fights were so one-sided in her favour that spectators got bored of her and didn't want to see her again.
  • Cute Monster Girl: She's a half-Oni with an easygoing disposition (when her temper isn't up) that has the appearance of an adorable young woman.
  • Does Not Like Men: Kirara hates men so much that she compares them to animala, though her interactions with Kotarou makes her at least changes her views on him, even developing feeling for him.
  • Elemental Rock-Paper-Scissors: She attempts to use her ice powers to counteract Astaroth's superheated flames and body at one point, and fails because the demon queen's fire is simply too hot.
  • Freakiness Shame: She developed a complex over the Oni-characteristic horns growing out of the sides of her head ever since she was a child and hides them with ribbons and pigtails.
  • Girlish Pigtails: She wears shaggy pigtails in order to conceal the horns on the side of her head that she inherited from her mother, something that she is ashamed of.
  • Harmless Freezing: Zigzagged. While sometimes those frozen solid by her ice powers can be easily thawed out harmlessly later, sometimes it's treated as the lethal ordeal it would realistically be, something only demons and superhumans could survive.
  • An Ice Person: Kirara uses her ice powers inherited from her mother to fight demons and humans alike.
  • Meaningful Name: A half-oni girl whose last name is Onisaki.
  • Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs: Kirara's "Snow Leopard Fist" has her make a quick leap forward before rapidly punching with ice-clad fists. For each Assist-type supporter, the skill increases damage reduction during the attack, adds an additional attack at the end, and finally provides a damage increase.
  • True Blue Femininity: She wears blue clothes and is not afraid of showing off her feminine features.
  • Tsundere: Kirara can be quite bashful as seen in her animations but tries to hide it with attitude. Some characters can see through her act anyway.

    Noah Brown

Noah Brown

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/noah_brown.png
Rogue Demon
"Noah Brown. ———Pleased to, meet you?"
Voiced by: Aoi Koga

Noah Brown is a demonic chimera who Edwin Black created by merging multiple demon cells, leading her to carry multiple demonic traits such as her immortality, which is on par with that of higher-ranked demons, leaving her with a lack of fear and a will to fight. Despite having the appearance of a young girl, she is actually decades old. She was programmed to be a cannibalistic demon but she refuses to eat humans because she doesn't like the taste, instead preferring to eat sweets, which quickly leaves her fatigued. Though she initially served Astaroth due to the latter making a deal with Edwin Black, she fell in love with Fuuma Tokiko's food and has stuck with the Taimanin Task Force ever since. Noah shapeshifts parts of her body to use as weapons in combat.

  • Badass Adorable: Noah can kick plenty of ass despite looking like a harmless little girl, especially when she has optimal fatigue.
  • Big Eater: Noah eats gigantic meals and originally joined the task force in exchange for Tokiko's cooking. It's later justified; her body is optimized for eating humans but Noah refuses to do so, and every other form of nourishment is extremely inefficient for her.
  • Cast from Calories: All her abilities are this, using any of them quickly tires her out and she needs to regularly eats. At one point, Kotaro powers her up by feeding her a bit of his blood.
  • Cute Monster Girl: Noah is a demon with the appearance of a young girl that's actually much older and more powerful than she looks.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Originally created as a bioweapon, Noah's Nomad designers considered her a failure due to her unwillingness to live up to her full potential by cannibalizing other sapient creatures for decades. Nomad managed to temporarily break her will by tricking her into killing the researchers who treated her like a friend and child rather than a test subject, leading to her being a reluctant minion of the organization at the start of the story.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Despite being a demon wearing dark, edgy clothes, she's very kind, considerate and loyal to her friends, and her comparative weakness is part of a refusal to consume human beings.
  • Emotionless Girl: Her refusal to eat humans leaves her fatigued, making her unable to show much emotion. She can show stronger emotion once she's well-fed, however, and it's made clear that being tired doesn't always mean she doesn't feel emotions.
  • Healing Factor: Due to being made from powerful demons, Noah possesses an extremely potent one, easily rivaling that of greater demons and possibly surpassing Murasaki's. In gameplay, she can be built to have great sustain.
  • Humanoid Abomination: Despite her humane appearance, Noah is actually an artificial being made from fragments of powerful deamons (among which is Edwin Black himself).
  • Horror Hunger: She is near-perpetually hungry, as using her abilities tire her out very quickly and refusing to eat human beings has left her perpetually hungry and under-nourished.
  • Meaningful Name: Noah Brown was created from a chimerization of many demons' cells, but most prominently Edwin Black, who is implied to have wanted an heir and to have disowned her, at least partially, when she did not live up to her full potential in his eyes. Astaroth has compared her becoming the full-powered demon she was intended to be as her becoming "black" instead of remaining "brown."
  • Nice Girl: Noah is shown to be considerate of her teammates and comforts them whenever they seem troubled. It's heavily implied that she doesn't actually find the taste of humans unpleasant, but that she has enough moral awareness to believe that eating them would be wrong.
  • Older Than They Look: Noah looks like a young girl but is actually decades old.
  • Rei Ayanami Expy: She is a child-like demon and an artificial spawn created on Edwin Black's behest who often rarely expresses her emotions and is fond of eating human food over humans who ends up on the side of the good guys.
  • Sizeshifter: Her Ultimate ability involves growing to gigantic proportions, and many of her attacks see her growing individual limbs for blows.
  • Strange-Syntax Speaker: As shown by her quote above, due to being a pepetually-tired Artificial Human, Noah speaks strangely, using pauses between words that shouldn't have them, or even in the middle of words.
  • Super Mode:
    • Gameplay-wise, her Ultimate involves her growing in size to be bigger than the bosses, changing her basic attacks to wider-hitting and more damaging ones, and making her completely invulnerable, for its duration.
    • There's also special art for when she embraces her full potential and takes on an even-more demonic form called "Chaotic Void" in an event, complete with a skin and Supporter version of her in that shape.
  • Tastes Like Friendship: Originally an enemy of the Task Force, a chance meeting in Tokyo Kingdom leads to her being offered food by the Task Force, and thence to her defection once she realizes she has somewhere to go that's probably going to treat her better than Nomad.
  • Terse Talker: She speaks in concise speech patterns because talking leaves her tired so she shortens her speech to preserve fatigue. Once she's well-fed she's fully capable of speaking in full sentences.
  • Too Spicy for Yog-Sothoth: The Christmas 2023 event sees Wight, a shapeshifter, attempt to mimick Noah. She takes her appearance... and completely freaks out when she feels Edwin Black's power within Noah, changing shapeshifting targets in seconds.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Due to her tremendous strength and potential, Noah has never been actually trained in using her powers effectively. This is explicitly commented on by Kotaro in one of the event, where he has to fight Noah, he notes that while he is nowhere near strong enough to actually damage her or even meaningfully fight back, her strikes are clumsy enough he can still dodge them waiting for his allies to help.

    Tokiko Fuuma

Tokiko Fuuma

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fuuma_tokiko.png
Butler of Fuuma
"Fuuma Tokiko, here to serve my master."
Voiced by: Ayaka Shimizu

A teacher at Gosha Academy and the Fuuma clan's personal butler, Tokiko was born out of wedlock after an encounter between Danjo and his mistress, making her Kotaro's half-sister. She's supportive of Kotaro and did everything she could to make her half-brother succeed as clan master and save the clan from collapsing after the conflict with the Igawa clan, becoming his guardian at 11 years old. She uses the Fuuma characteristic "Evil Eye" ninja art, with her "Clairvoyance" variant allowing her to spy on anyone or anywhere without having to physically move simply by closing her eye, allowing her to gather information from books and computers with ease. Tokiko's favored weapon is the kunai, being the best among the Fuuma clan at using the weapon.

  • Battle Butler: Acts as Kotaro's butler, secretary, and stewardess while still being a capable Taimanin.
  • Combat Clairvoyance: She uses her Evil Eye this way in combat, letting her accurately strike where targets will be.
  • Flechette Storm: Several of her skills involve throwing flurries of kunai, and one of them transforms her basic combo from melee to ranged attacks with them.
  • Improbable Aiming Skills: Her Evil Eye ninja art allows her to hit hidden targets with a high chance of success. Some of her skills also allow her to fire foe-seeking projectiles.
  • Incest Subtext:
    • It's not as prominent as in other Taimanin timelines where it's out-and-out Brother–Sister Incest, but it's easy to read Tokiko as in love with Kotaro despite being half-siblings.
    • The Intimacy scene of her "Indomitable" Supporter version (where she finds an old taimanin uniform of hers and start reminscing about her old missions, and then daydreaming about what it would be like if she was closer to Kotaro's age and going on missions with him) throws subtext right out of the windownote .
  • Informed Attribute: Kotaro frequently treats Tokiko as if she's a strict and terrifying disciplinarian, but she's actually generally quite sweet and considerate to both he and his various friends. This is a bit of a holdover from RPG, where she did originally have a stricter and colder (although still caring on the inside) Sugar-and-Ice Personality.
  • Nice Girl: She's quite polite and understanding to the people around her, and even when she's hard on her half-brother he and the audience know it's Tough Love.
  • Supreme Chef: She's noted to be a good cook who won over Noah Brown with her food, convincing the demon to join the task force.
  • Team Mom: One reason she and Shiranui rarely appear in the same stories or events is that they effectively share this role, with Tokiko serving as the effective homemaker for her half-brother and the various girls with nowhere else to go who now live in his house.
  • Tough Love: Although Tokiko loves and supports Kotaro, he lives in fear of her displeasure every time it looks like his wacky misadventures will get in the way of his studies or interfere with his trying to do something nice for her.
  • Undying Loyalty: She's always supportive of Kotaro, even calling him "Master."
    • What's more, unlike Saika, who uses "Waka-sama" for "Master" (meaning "young master" like Alfred uses toward Bruce Wayne), Tokiko chooses to use "Oyakata-sama", which uses kanji roughly translating to "the way of the parent" and has connotations closer to "the one who provides for me" or "the one who gave me everything", and when not used where that form of address is traditional and expected (such as for masters of certain traditional arts like bonsai), has connotations of intense devotion and gratitude.

Like an old-fashioned delinquent, Maika frequently helps the weak and fights the strong. In spite of her foul-mouthed demeanor and wild image, she's secretly fond of gyaru fashion, only wearing her best clothes where no one will recognize her, and is rumored to have a secret stash of adorable girly things. Even among users of the ninja art, Fire Art, which is known for its immense power, Maika's power is incredible, forcing her to equip a handmade bazooka named "Meido Bazooka," lest she loses control of her powers. Combining her Fire Art with her Meido Bazooka, she's capable of obliterating enemies with a single blast from the latter, earning herself the nickname, "Scorching Fire."

  • Bad Liar: Maika is not blushing, it's a sunburn, and it doesn't matter if it's just her face that's red, you pervert!
  • BFG: She carries the handmade ninja bazooka, Meido Bazooka, in order to prevent her Fire Art powers from getting out of control.
  • Fiery Redhead: Maika has red hair and has a loud and foul-mouthed disposition to go with it.
  • The Lad-ette: In public, Maika is brash, foul-mouthed and a smoker, which is an image she cultivates in order to appear "strong" and "cool."
  • Playing with Fire: A practitioner of Fire Art, known to have such power that she requires a BFG to keep it in check.
  • Smoking Is Cool: Downplayed, in that Maika doens't smoke cigarettes during combat like she does in some other branches of the franchise, but she's still mentioned to have the habit in some events.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: Maika appears in public as The Lad-ette but secretly likes typically girly things, such as fashion, girl magazines and the like.
  • Tsundere: In the intimacy scene for her support character, Maika asks Fuuma Kotaro to put sun oil on her back, and becomes increasingly irritable, embarrassed, and bashful as she stumbles upon her words during their interaction.

Rin uses Volt Art, her power being greater than Yukikaze's, and looks like she glows with electricity while using it, earning the nickname, "Volt Taimanin." She can use her ninja art to conjure lightning blades or electron shields. Rin is often assigned to raid and annihilation missions, and thanks to her high rate of success, has gained the trust of the higher-ups, including Asagi. She's Shikanosuke's cousin.

  • Adaptational Modesty: Her thighs are covered and her Cleavage Window has been removed, though her Playboy Bunny outfit looks similar to her original Taimanin suit.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: She's a very approachable Nice Girl as she's also a strict teacher. As her playable Intimacy Event shows, making her angry by hurting her cousin can lead to catastrophic results as her cousin Shikanosuke witnessed firsthand.
  • Big Sister Instinct: Her playable Intimacy episode shows that she's very protective of Shikanosuke. And anyone hurting Shikanosuke is enough for her to fly in an electrifying rage that's enough to scare even her own cousin.
  • Captain Ersatz: Thanks to her Costume Evolution, Rin resembles a lot more like Taki from the Soulcalibur series, in both the outfit and hairstyle.
  • Cool Big Sis: Rin is very close to her cousin as if she is his big sister.
  • Combat Tentacles: All of her outfits incorporate two mechanical bladed tendrils she wears attached to a collar on her neck, and which she uses in both her moveset and several of her skill attacks.
  • Costume Evolution: Rin is so far the only Taimanin in Action to undergo a change in her overall costume. Trading her leotard carried over from RPGX for a form-fitting battlesuit, which is basically based on her Thunder Strike Lightning Spark outfit from the aforementioned game. Then again, per Taimanin series standard, her new outfit still has the usual Sexy Backless Outfit.
  • Dual Wielding: Rin wields a pair of dual swords into combat, usually charged up with her Volt art.
  • Elemental Shapeshifter: Not as emphasized as Shiranui, but she can transform into lightning to zip around and uses it in her Ultimate attack.
  • Evil Knock Off: One of her costumes, a suit of formfitting Cyberpunk armor, is actually a Battle Trophy she took off what's heavily implied to be an evil clone of her that Momochi Toyo's body double purchased along with other evil clones from a Mad Scientist in a previous event.
  • Red Baron: "Volt Taimanin," from the way her body glows while using her ninja art.
  • Shock and Awe: Rin's Lightning Art is said to outshine Yukikaze's. She incorporates it in her entire moveset, and it fries villainous attempts to put her in a mechanical Slave Collar.
  • Strong and Skilled: While there are debates between Gosha members on whether she or Yukikaze has the more powerful Lightning Art in terms of sheer destructive potential, Rin's dozen years of experience with hers allows her to use it in much more versatile ways than Yukikaze, who is Unskilled, but Strong by comparison.
  • Wilfully Weak: Like Asagi, events make clear that she's somewhat holding back to assess what her students are capable of.
  • Yellow Lightning, Blue Lightning: The blue to Yukikaze's yellow.

    Sora Kannazuki

Sora Kannazuki

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kannazuki_sora.png
Celestial Fox
"I'm Kannazuki Sora. Though I have much to learn, I'll do my best-!"
Voiced by: Saya Aizawa

A middle-schooler at Gosha Academy, she was rescued from the Chaos Arena and brought to Gosha after a demon who had a grudge against Sora's mother killed her and her husband. She was acknowledged for awakening her ninja art and defeating a demon who intruded and attacked Gosha, and was dispatched to the UFS. Sora's Visage Art allows her to summon visions of a fox or a giant. Her fighting style consists of adding particles to the arrows on her weapons, and after her ability to control particles was increased, she gains a fox tail and ears when using her powers, similar to Beast Art users. She initially used a wrist-mounted crossbow in battle but later switched to a longbow.

  • Break the Cutie: Sora was traumatized by the murder of her parents and comes across as shy and timid in the present. Awakening her Taimanin Art was also under very stressful circumstances, and its been foreshadowed that Sakuya's growing envy of her won't be any gentler...
  • Bully and Wimp Pairing: Sora is friend with Sakuya Igawa, with the younger Igawa as the cold, harsh, blunt and sometimes mean-spirited bully, and Sora as the Shrinking Violet Nice Girl who never dares raise her voice and lacks assertivness.
  • Discard and Draw: Awakening her Taimanin Art allows her to summon a fox-masked spirit to help her fight, but caused her to switch out her weapons to better match the spirit's longbow.
  • Long-Range Fighter: Sora uses a bow as a playable character and a wrist-mounted crossbow during cutscenes as a supporter.
  • Mage Marksman: Fully in the "Archer" type. Like Yukikaze, Sora's bow isn't so much a weapon in its own right as it is a way for her to channel her Ninja Art in a focused manner, firing magical projectiles.
  • Nice Girl: Quite so to her friends. In her Intimacy Story, she took Kotaro on an outing specifically to get him a break from his heavy workload, assuring he's well-liked amongst the task force, and insisting on doing things he want.
  • Rain of Arrows: Sora actually has multiple skills that summon showers of projectiles to pummel enemies in front of her.
  • Recoil Boost: Some scene transitions see her use her bow this way to launch herself to a higher level.
  • Ship Tease: Her Intimacy Story frames the outing between herself and Kotaro it as a date, especially when the former gets flustered when the latter says he wants to know everything about her; that was the moment she understood why Su and Yukikaze scold Kotaro a lot. At the end of the story, her classmates tease her about it having been asked about date spots while a sighing Sora keeps denying it being one.
  • Summon Magic: Her Ninja Art summons a ghostly fox-masked spirit who can fire off all sorts of powerful attacks, and even physically lift her in some stage transitions.
  • Those Two Guys: Sora and her close friend Igawa Sakuya were introduced together training under Asuka in the UFS. However, Sora starting to awaken to her full potential has started to cause Sakuya to give in to envy, which is both slowly driving a wedge between them and may be putting Sakuya on a dark path...
  • Took a Level in Badass: Gameplay-wise, she went from a Supporter to a playable character. Story-wise, she went from a student that couldn't awaken her Ninja art to one that had, and a fairly powerful one at that.
  • Traumatic Superpower Awakening: She and Sakuya had gone to train in the forest when they were attacked by a powerful demon. After failing to run away and seeing Sakuya beaten unconscious and the demon about to kill her as well, Sora's Ninja art awakened and she disintegrated the demon with an energy blast.
  • You Kill It, You Bought It: Downplayed, but the demon Sora killed during her Traumatic Superpower Awakening turned out to be the ex-leader of a group of demonic mercenaries, meaning that, in chapter 20 of the story mode, the newly-appointed leader of that mercenary group, Spinel, is specifically trying to kill Sora to earn the respect of her new underlings.

Traitor's Child
"Forgive me for joining the task force so late. Momochi Nagi is now here to protect you, master."
Voiced by: Himika Akaneya

The daughter of the global terrorist, Toyo Momochi, Nagi left Gosha and followed her father but disagreed with his thoughts. After his father went off the deep end during a mission in the UFS, Nagi rejoined Gosha and was placed under the control of the Fuuma clan for monitor and supervision purposes. She accompanies Fuuma on missions to protect him and refers to him as "master." Nagi uses Wind Art and Momochi-style swordsmanship taught by her father, and has already reached a peak.

  • The Atoner: Nagi understands that she and her father will never be forgiven for the things they did, and jumps at the opportunity to join the task force to atone for the destruction Toyo caused.
  • Blow You Away: Uses the Wind Art.
  • Canon Foreigner: Nagi makes her first appearance in the Taimanin franchise through Action Taimanin.
  • Cleavage Window: The upper part of her Taimanin suit has an opening that shows her breasts.
  • Daddy's Girl: Left Gosha to follow her father in his quest but changed her heart once he lost his mind. She also tries to risk her life when he's at the mercy of Astaroth but the task force prevents her from intervening.
  • Dual Wielding: She wields the demonic sword, Muramasa, and the katana, Mumei.
  • Extreme Doormat: Nagi's devotion to trying to atone for her family's misdeeds manifests as slavish obedience to anything Kotaro tells her to do. Notably, when her deepest desire is shown in a dream, it's just her being given an endless stream of easy-to-follow orders from Kotaro that she can happily obey forever.
  • Heel–Face Turn: While initially loyal to her father's faction, Nagi switched sides after witnessing the lengths her father was willing to go to achieve his goals and how much he was destroying himself.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: Nagi is this to Izumo Tsuru in RPG. Their background and cricumstances in joining Fuuma Kotaro are similiar to each other with a few differences.

    Saika Fuuma

Saika Fuuma

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fuuma_saika.png
Former Secretary of Fuuma
"Allow me to be the vanguard, young master. Fuuma Saika, at your service."
Voiced by: Yuina Wada

Saika hails from a family that has traditionally served as the Fuuma clan's secretary. She eventually passed down the role of secretary to Tokiko, and goes out on missions as a Taimanin.

She used to be an active Taimanin before she lost both of her legs in combat against demons. The former clan head and Kotaro's father, Danjo, saved her life on the brink of death, and the two went to UFS where she was given mechanical prosthetics. In spite of this, Saika sided with Asagi rather than her old master during the Fuuma revolt.

She utilizes her cyborg legs in combat to deliver powerful kicks, and her Evil Eye allows her to take control of anyone who meets her gaze.

Due to complications regarding the Fuuma Clan, Saika isn't an official member of the Task Force and acts instead as a supplementary agent who's given permission to tag along on missions in emergency situations.

  • Artificial Limbs: Saika lost both of her legs during combat against demons but got mechanical replacements from UFS, which she uses in combat.
  • Badass in a Nice Suit: She can equip Amane Fuuma's butler outfit.
  • Body Guard Crush: Saika is genuinely in love with Kotaro, as she confesses to him in her Playable Intimacy Event (by saying he is "the only man [she] thought about in years" when he asks her if there's no other Fuuma clan leader she thought about serving).
  • Close-Range Combatant: Unlike most of the characters (who have a handful of melee moves even if they're normally ranged, or the reverse), Saika has no ranged skills whatsoever in her repertoire. She has a gap-closer, but the one "ranged' skill she has, "Calamity-Over", is still classified as a melee attack and very much one to use from short distances.
  • Combat Stilettos: Saika's mechanical legs have built-in high heels, which seem to conceal some kind of weapon. Fortunately, she has superhuman balance, as she demonstrates with many of her skills and her victory pose.
  • Cyborg: Her ruined legs have been replaced with high-powered combat prosthetics, which is why her fighting style involves lots of kicking.
  • Hurricane Kick: She even has one in her skill set. Saika's version is a homage to the Spinning Demon technique used by the Mishima-style karate practitioners, ending with an axe kick, unlike Devil Jin's.
  • Lascivious Beauty Mark: Has one of these placed in the traditional spot just below the corner of her mouth to emphasize her role as a Sexy Secretary, just like the Sultry Bangs mentioned below.
  • Kick Chick: Primarily uses kicks in battle, with her cybernetic legs considered as her weapons.
  • Mrs. Robinson: Saika is in her thirties, about the same age as Asagi and Shiranui, and confesses to Kotaro, who is in his late teens or early twenties, that she's in love with him in her playable version's Intimacy Event.
  • Nice Girl: Saika is known for her warm and polite demeanor, which Kotaro especially notes in her friendly smile.
  • Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs: Her "Shadowless Kick" is this but with kicks instead, being a flurry of kicks at point-blank range, with a very similar visual effect as the standard "punch" version of this trope.
  • Sexy Secretary: She used to be the secretary of the Fuuma Clan when Danjo Fuuma was still around (and, at least in the other continuities, also served him sexually as part of that role) but she passed the torch to his daughter and Kotaro's half-sister, Tokiko (whose relationship with her half-brother is more chaste, at least in the Action Taimanin continuity). Like the rest of the female Taimanin, Saika is also a very attractive woman.
  • Sultry Bangs: Saika has her left eye always covered by her long tresses, giving her a sultry appearance.

Mysterious Girl
"Long time no see...... Or is it? Nice to meet you, Clan Master."
Voiced by: Aoi Koga

A mysterious girl who is often seen at the library. Shisui uses the rare Wave Art to materialize natural aura into a visage of the "Guardian" that she can manipulate at will.

  • Bookworm: Excitedly discusses books with Fuuma at the Gosha library.
  • Emotionless Girl: Speaks in a monotone voice with no audible emotions.
  • Innocent Means Naïve: Shisui foolishly takes advice from Lilim, a well-known prankster, about what part-time job she should apply for. Turns out the job was as a receptionist in a bunny suit, and Shisui doesn't see why Kotaro freaks out when he witnesses her dressed in the outfit.
  • Non-Linear Character: She appears to be aware that Action is an Alternate Universe, as Kotaro notes that when he met her for the first time, she told him that it was "nice to meet him for the first time again".
  • Powers Do the Fighting: Like Emily, Shisui has a skill that, when equipped, enchances the attacks of her Guardian, lets it use combat skills, and automatically move Shisui herself across the level, making Shisui able to complete missions without the player touching anything.
  • Ret-Gone:Seems to become this in both "RPG" and "Action". Originally from the "Battle Arena" timeline, due to various circumstances that led her in displaced in time as a ghost with traces of 'Shisui Amamiya' having never existed in the timeline.
  • Robot Buddy: Shisui can use her Wave Art to materialize natural aura in order to summon a visage of the "Guardian."

    Hebiko Aishu

Low-Rank Childhood Ninja Friend
"Fuuma-chan, you can always count on me, Aishu Hebiko, from now on!"
Voiced by: Mai Fuchigami

Hebiko is an elite Gosha student and a member of the student council. Her family has served the Fuuma clan for generations. Her Ninja Art "Beast Transformer" allows her to transform her legs into octopus tendrils.

  • Adaptational Wimp: Marginal, but in both story scenes and gameplay Hebiko's healing game is pretty weak and dependent on drenching herself in her ink first. In RPG, she could flat-out regenerate and even regrow her transformed octopus legs in short order.
  • Animorphism: The "partial transformation" variety. Her Beast Transformer art turns her legs into octopus tendrils and lets her spray ink.
  • Dual Wielding: She wields a pair of daggers, sharing a weapon class with Igawa Sakura. She's said to be able to quadruple wield by using her hands and leg-tendrils to hold daggers, and unlike in other games in the series where this is just a distraction tactic, she actually uses them. (In story anyway.)
  • Fighter, Mage, Thief: Firmly the "Fighter" in her friend group with Kotaro and Shikanosuke. She's the only one of the three that's a major physical threat in hand-to-hand combat, with her super-strong tentacle legs and swords. When the trio operate as a unit in events she's usually the one that ends up doing the lion's share of the fighting, taking on even gauntlets of reasonably powerful opponents despite still being a rookie high schooler. While she does have some skills in stealth and tracking using her ink, and while she's considered the best student of the three, Hebiko is also usually more of a doer than a planner in combat or field situations and relies on Kotaro's tactical genius and Shikanosuke's electric radar to point her in the right direction.
  • Heart Is an Awesome Power: Being able to turn her legs into octopus tentacles and spray ink doesn't sound as impressive as most other Taimanin Arts... but it'll fool ya. In practice, Hebiko's shapeshifted legs are two slabs of pure muscle with ridiculous reach and flexibility thanks to being both boneless and scaled up to her human size. And since she's a ninja, she can do a ridiculous number of things with her ink, from using it to mark targets to coating herself in it to temporarily become invisible and gain octopus-like regeneration, to creating ink constructs as distractions or weapons.
  • Height Angst: Claims to be 150 cm tall, and gets pissed when someone points out she's only 149 cm.
  • Named After Somebody Famous: The Aishu clan are famous for their Beast Arts. The playable Hebiko was named after her ancestor, one of the clan's most accomplished members. That Hebiko Aishu had a Snake-type Beast Transformer power, allowing her to gain the abilities of, and change her body (or body parts) into those of a snake (hence she had the name Hebiko, meaning "snake child").
  • Non-Indicative Name: Unlike her ancestor and namesake, this Hebiko's beast art is a Devilfish type Beast Transformer power, meaning this Hebiko Aishu can use her powers to gain the abilities of an octopus, doing things like spraying ink or transforming her legs into powerful octopus tentacles. Thanks to being named after her ancestor, her name still means "snake child", so everyone assumes she must have snake powers until they see her use her actual powers (at which point they usually ask "Why is she named Hebiko then", and someone has to explain the whole story with her having been named after an ancestor who had a much more indicative name).
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Hebiko is so short and small that Sakura's knife weapons are as big as shortswords in her hands, but between the two she's actually the stronger, especially with her transformed octopus legs in the mix.
  • Turns Red: When fought as a boss in story events, lowering her health past certain thresholds will cause her to gain an armour buff that increases the lower her health gets, to the point that taking the last tenth of her life will take as long as it did to remove the first half of her health bar.
  • Weaponized Stench: Her ink is infamously foul-smelling and fishy and takes days to clean out or fade away; it's implied that this is why just spraying it in a column with one of her attack skills is enough to knock enemies out.

Mai is an elite Gosha student who is literally considered a "surefire" by her peers. She has mastered the ninja art "Paper Spirit" which allows her to enhance pieces of paper by putting particles in them, enabling the user to snare enemies or transform the paper into blades or explosives, making it a highly adaptive ability.

  • A-Cup Angst: While witnessing Kururi Fuyutsuki hide something between her breasts during the event, "Sold! Mayhem at the Auction!", Mai looks at her small breasts and sighs in jealousy, which prompts Kururi to taunt her over it.
  • Badass Bookworm: She enjoys reading books and is a competent Taimanin.
  • Bookworm: Frequently spends time reading books and visiting Gosha Library.
  • Commonality Connection: Mai and Kotaro Fuuma became friends over a shared interest in reading.
  • Emotionless Girl: She tends to be quiet and withdrawn when speaking.
  • Paper Master: Mai specializes in the Paper Spirit ninja art, allowing her to put particles into pieces of paper and make use of them as the situation demands.

Cait Sith, the fairy cat. She was once a normal cat, looked after by a gruff old lady. After the old lady's death, she was taken to the demon realm by a Cait Sith that lived among humans and became a fairy. She stayed in the demon realm for quite a while but never got used to it, and returned to the human world.

The old lady was once rich but lost her all wealth due to a scam, and she froze to death on the street with a pile of debt left behind. She uses the name "Merci" because it was what the old lady muttered in her last words, who had always call her "cat". She is greedy when it comes to making money, possibly because of the influence of her former owner, so she uses every way to extort money from people.

She doesn't usually fight in the frontline, but rather taunts enemies and escapes to survive. When she has no other option but to fight, she takes up a fight using her flexible, elastic body.

  • Cat Girl: Merci's time in the Demon Realm transformed her from a normal cat into a cat with a human body.
  • Freudian Excuse: Merci's late owner may have influenced the former's love for many, as the owner was rich before losing her wealth due to a scam.
  • Greed: Merci is so greedy that equipping her increases the chance of obtaining a special item as well as the amount of gold obtained when completing quests.
  • Verbal Tic: Merci tends to finish her sentences with "meow." The Japanese voiceover finishes every sentence with "nya," the Japanese sound of a cat meowing.

Kaoruko is a student of Gosha Academy. She created many secret bases around the hills of Gosha Village and placed many trap around them with ninja arts. Though she does attend classes, she's notorious as a troublemaker.

She uses the Wood Art "Mountain Witch" that controls living plants, inducing their growth to the point of covering up an entire town. She mostly uses this ability to create traps.

  • Ditzy Genius: She's good with technology but doesn't think things through in how she's supposed to test it out or make sure it doesn't break down.
  • Large Ham: Uraru is a very loud and excited person, especially when witnessing the Taimanin in battle.
  • Mad Scientist: Creates all sorts of odd and unreliable contraptions, and will abduct someone if she needs help with testing it out.
  • The Pollyanna: Despite all her equipment- err, "Gear's" repeated failures, she still retains a positive and cheerful personality and is not discouraged by her failures.

    Uehara Shikanosuke

"We'll always be best friends, won't we?"
Voiced by: Moeru Hoshi

A friend and schoolmate of Kotaro and Hebiko, Shikanosuke's Elec Art is often seen as an inferior knock off of Yukikaze's Lightning Art, but in practice allows for applications that require fine control the Lightning Art struggles with. Desperately wants to be seen as a cool, capable guy, which is unfortunately at odds with his short, girly looks.

  • Adaptational Badass: Downplayed, but overall Shikanosuke, in keeping with a lot of the game's material, is treated as already having undergone much of his Character Development from RPG, being much less of a Cowardly Lion and having more faith in his own abilities and worth.
  • Amazon Chaser: Not as prevelant as in RPG, where his attraction to strong, tall women was a bit of a Running Gag, but Shikanosuke is totally into girls who can fight.
  • Animal Motifs: Shikanosuke has a deer motif, something the descriptions of his armor other characters can wear makes plain even if his ability to summon electric deer is so far Adapted Out. He's cute and small, but surprisingly dangerous if assumed to be harmless.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: On one hand, Shikanosuke is happy-go-lucky at best. On the other hand, he's not without anger if pushed too far. Not even Fuuma is safe from this when he is unable to recognize his own best friend disguised as a girl.
  • Butt-Monkey: Not to the same extent as Fuuma, but Shikanosuke tends to run into other kinds of misfortune, from getting bullied by Minasaki in her own Intimacy Event to Fuuma not even recognizing him in his own episode, no less.
  • Dude Looks Like a Lady: Shikanosuke desperately wants to be seen as a cool, manly guy, which makes his short size and cute looks all the more unfortunate. It doesn't help that he has some sexual tension with Kotaro, or that his family sometimes forces him to wear cute dresses as part of family tradition.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: Shikanosuke's Elec Art is ineffectual for offensive purposes and is more useful for mundane purposes, leading people to disparagingly refer to him as "Electrician."
  • Fighter, Mage, Thief: The "Mage" in his three-person friend team with Kotaro and Hebiko. He's potentially even less of a physical threat than Kotaro, but his versatile powers give him a lot of problem-solving power compared to the other two and, like a real D&D mage arguably is, while he's competent at using his powers to splash some damage around, Shikanosuke is at his strongest when uses these powers to back up a dangerous ally with intelligence and buffs.
  • Has a Type: It's not as commonly brought-up as in RPG, but Shikanosuke likes 'em strong, brave, tall, and curvy. Fortunately, he gets his heart broken by betrayal much less in Action, where he's Out of Focus.
  • Required Secondary Powers: The Elec Art makes its user completely immune to electrocution; there's a mean-spirited joke in Gosha that washouts with the Elec Art can always pursue careers in electrical engineering and maintenance.
  • Shock and Awe: Downplayed, in that his Elec Art is considerably better at small, subtle uses of electricity than destructive lightning bolts... but Shikanosuke can still shock people with it.
  • Weak, but Skilled: Shikanosuke's character arc involves realizing that, far from just being a worse version of Yukikaze's or his cousin Rin's rad lightning bolt powers, his Elec Art is actually ridiculously versatile and useful so long as he isn't just trying to fry people with lightning, mostly because he can use it for fine control like sonar intelligence gathering or low-level telepathy through synching electrical activity in people's nervous systems. Fittingly, in his first appearance as a gameplay enemy, he's a classic Dual Boss with Hebiko, using his powers to pin the player down while Hebiko charges in with her own attacks and armor buff to finish them off or further weaken them with her own dangerous debuffs.

    Sakuya Igawa
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1000000490_10241024.png
"My name is Igawa Sakuya. Eh, what else? ....Nope, that's it."
"Yes!— Er, I mean, well done."
Voiced by: Sashide Maria

Sora Kannazuki's Platonic Life Partner, Sakuya Igawa is a middle school aged relative of Asagi who is introduced training alongside Sora in a UFS facility in the main story. She eventually awakens her Shade Art during the story... but does so using questionable means.

  • Abusive Parents: Some of Sakuya's issues go back to parents who expected her to be a genius like her relative Asagi, and have practically disowned her for being a "late bloomer" who didn't awaken her Ninja Art from a young age... even though Sakuya is still very young and many Taimanin much older than her haven't Awakened theirs yet.
  • Aren't You Going to Ravish Me?: The reveal in Chapter 20, that the demons are after Sora only because she disintegrated their old boss during her Traumatic Superpower Awakening, to the point of offering to let Sakuya go freely and unharmed if Sora surrenders, leave Sakuya outraged because she was present on the scene as well and helped, but the demons don't care about her.
  • Bully and Wimp Pairing: Originally, she was the loud, angry bully to Sora's wimp, although it was downplayed in that they did still care about each other; Sakuya just struggled to process her feelings on seeing Sora in dangerous situations that Sora wasn't handling well. Unfortunately, it's implied that this is a factor in Sakuya's Slowly Slipping Into Evil.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Subverted. Sakuya isn't evil, despite her edgy "Shade Art," but she also only awakened it through demon blood supplement abuse and directing The Power of Hate and envy towards her best friend. It's been repeatedly implied that this is eventually going to result in her Face–Heel Turn.
  • Driven by Envy: Downplayed, in that Sakuya is both aware and deeply ashamed of what she's doing, but all the bad things she's doing to herself have at least some roots in her envy of Sora's natural skill and genius, even though Sora is a shy, traumatized Shrinking Violet.
  • Drugs Are Bad: Due to her envy of Sora's natural genius, Sakuya has begun abusing demon blood supplements in secret to try to get ahead, something which is heavily implied will have disastrous consequences on her body and mind. Take out the supernatural elements and that's halfway to an after school special. What's worse though that she is still underage.
  • Empowered Badass Normal: Sakuya was a late bloomer who struggled to awaken her Ninja Art in childhood. She has eventually managed to activate her Shade Art, but hides it at first because she only managed to do it through Psycho Serum and drawing on feelings of envy and resentment towards her best friend so intense that they're basically full on hatred, both of which she's very ashamed of.
  • Hard Work Hardly Works: Sakuya pushes herself hard with training, and eventually with dangerous drugs, but she can't quite match up to Sora's natural talent and hates herself for it.
  • Inferiority Superiority Complex: Her bad attitude is stated to come from her feelings of inferiority, not yet living up to the illustrious Igawa lineage even though realistically she's still just a middle schooler and shouldn't have to put such pressure on herself.
  • Mirror Character: She turns out to be one for Toyo Momochi of all people. Both are unable to awaken their Ninja Art naturally and resorted to underhanded methods to achieve that end by using demonic blood supplements that could also potentially destroy their bodies and even throw away their own humanity, matters not even helped that they both suffer from Inferiority Superiority Complex and the likelihood Sakuya going down the same path as Momochi himself is plausible.
  • Non-Indicative Name: Her Shade Art isn't umbrakinesis; it's closer to Super-Reflexes, letting her intuitively read her opponents and react instantly. It's just called that because it coats her body in creepy black shadows when she uses it.

"If it were up to me, I would have taken care of Momochi or Black way better than you."
Voiced by: Hasegawa Rena

A rare male member of the Task Force, Homare Nao's Taimanin Art allows him to focus light energy into a Ray Gun. Notable for his complicated, adversarial relationship with Kotarou, and his belief that he ought to have been made head of the Task Force instead.

  • Cold Ham: Nao's not a loud, hot-blooded kind of guy, but he does have quite a temper underneath that professional facade.
  • Dude Looks Like a Lady: Nao has an extremely slender build and feminine face, and he likes wearing women's clothing recreationally. His Taimanin suit even has accessories designed to resemble cat ears and a tail.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: Although they get off on the wrong foot, Nao gains a grudging respect for Kotarou during their first adventure, and Kotarou comes to appreciate the way Nao pushes him to improve.
  • Foil: The feminine, hot-tempered, powerful honor student to Kotarou's masculine, laid-back who can't awaken his Taimanin art. Although they both take their ninja roles very seriously, it's implied that Kotarou's empathy and lateral thinking skills make him the better commander while Nao's meticulous perfectionism and bravery make him the better soldier.
  • Sour Supporter: Despite their friction-heavy relationship, it's implied that what he wants most is for Kotarou to grow into his role as the head of the Task Force rather than actually to supplant him. When given orders on a mission, he does as he's commanded, and is willing to give credit where it's due when Kotarou's clever tactics and strategies pay off.

    Yasuna Ashigaya
Voiced by: Sawako Hata

A Freelance Taimanin. She's from Ashigaya, which excels at astronomy, and claims herself to be Japan's number one Metal (Money) Artist. A descendant of a clan of onmyoji from the Heian period and performs well at astrology and controlling ghosts or familiars. She's also a gambler who travels all around Japan's casinos, making her a gambler who claims to be able to see the flow of money and luck around people and things. She acts like a lady all the time, but her inner self is straightforward and simple. Which is not really a gambling type of personality. She once challenged Jubei Kanzaki in Senzaki's illegal casino with gambling but lost. She almost lost her life when Kurenai saved her. After that, she vowed to pay her life's debt by working in the task force for free.

  • Born Unlucky: Turns out she's anything but lucky, and her losing a wager against Jubei Kanzaki in an illegal casino in Senzaki is one such example that got her into a downward spiral in the first place.
  • The Gambling Addict: She's a compulsive gambler to say the least. Her terrible luck leads to her accruing many debts from one too many losses to the point she gets recruited by Kurenai to pay her debts.
  • Number of the Beast: Her fully upgraded supporter skill deals 666% on enemies with another added damage of the same damage at a 50% chance. Supposedly, this should be a reference to the term, "devil's luck" which is another phrase for Born Lucky, and it's also once said that people who were always lucky were once thought to have made a Deal with the Devil. Ironically, considering the above-mentioned tropes, she's anything but lucky.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Yasuna believes her debts have made her famous but the gang of thieves that the Task Force is pursuing in the event "Concerto of Red and Crimson" has no idea who she is.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Gets chewed out by Kurenai and Fuuma for stealing the task force's money on the spot while playing in a casino.
Kurenai: What are you guys my ass, you doofus!! Return the money you stole from the vault, ALL OF IT!!

Nomad

    Edwin Black

Edwin Black

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/edwin_black.png
Vampire King
"How pathetic. Can't even run a child's errand......"
Voiced by: Kenyū Horiuchi

The founder of Nomad and the first vampire, Edwin is a powerful demon who is one of the rulers of the demon realm. Being the first vampire means he was born a vampire as opposed to turned into one, which makes him immortal with no known weaknesses, and gives him the ability to walk in the sunlight with no harm, making himself known as the "Daywalker."

  • Adaptational Wimp: A given, considering the canon ends of the main visual novels had Black become a dimension-spanning, timeline-hopping, Reality Warper, but here he is "merely" one of the dozen of the most powerful demons in existence rather than an outright Physical God.
  • Ambiguously Related: Kurenai is a half-vampire, Edwin Black killed her mother and clan, and Kurenai's burning hatred for him all imply that she's his Child by Rape as in other parts of the franchise, but he never refers to her as such in this game, and it's not explicitly said if that is still the case in Action.
  • Arc Villain: Of Chapters 17 to 19, with the Task Force forming an alliance with the Death Wraiths to bring him down.
  • Arch-Enemy:
    • To both Kurenai and Asuka, as both of their respective families died by his hand and both Taimanins are bent to get revenge on Black.
    • Black himself comes to view Fuuma as this at the end of chapter 19, vowing to kill him personally as revenge for destroying his criminal empire, and by the simple fact he spares him rather than allowing the task force to deal the killing blow.
  • Badass in a Nice Suit: Wherever he goes, Black is seen sporting a business suit underneath his longcoat.
  • Badass Longcoat: Black wears a black and red longcoat that gives the image of a vampire's cape.
  • Better the Devil You Know: After his defeat in Chapter 19, Kotaro refuses to kill him, fearing the Evil Power Vacuum that would follow if he died. For all his evil deeds and nefarious plans, Edwin Black understands the uses of Pragmatic Villainy and Villain with Good Publicity, something that cannot be said of a good deal of his followers.
  • Cruel Mercy: His fate at the end of chapter 19. Fuuma spares him, knowing that Black's death can upset the balance between humanity and demonkind, along with the ensuing turmoil that would occur on the following chapter.
  • The Don: He is the vampiric crime lord of a large criminal organization consisting of humans and demons that influenced most world governments to his will.
  • The Dreaded: He's the Nomad's head honcho and one of the most powerful demon to ever exist in the Taimanin universe, and Kotaro has every right to be very afraid of him.
  • Enemy Mine: Near the middle of the story chapters, Black offers Nomad's help to the Task Force in tracking down Toyo Momochi, because the rogue ninja's plans are also detrimental to Black's organisation. It doesn't last long, and the next time the Task Force see him, Black tries to kill them.
  • Final Boss: Black is the last obstacle in both chapters 18 and 19, fighting in his human form in the former and in his true form in the latter.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: Although he isn't the immediate Big Bad, Edwin is still the leader of an international organization that deals in all sorts of wickedness, such as human experimentation, and he's one of the reasons Momochi Toyo chose to resort to his destructive methods as many of the misfortunes in the Taimanin world, such as the Koukawa clan's destruction (and Asuka's maiming), the death of Kurenai's mother, Oboro's betrayal and Nomad's misdeeds can be traced back to Black.
  • Gravity Master: His signature ability. He even appears from a black-hole like portal during his boss fights. And even uses this power by suffocating Fuuma to near-death.
  • Knight of Cerebus: While Black maybe representing himself as the Lesser of Two Evils compared to Momochi, but his very presence alone instills dread and eerie, so much so that Kotaro, the only known male Taimanin of the task force, is left petrified at his very presence.
  • One-Winged Angel: In chapter 19, Black sheds his human form as he finally gets serious about fighting, becoming a multi-armed, brown-skinned demon welding multiple weapons.
  • Rank Scales with Asskicking: The Vampire King and leader of Nomad is one of the most powerful demons in existence.
  • Red Baron: Thanks to Black's immunity to sunlight, people have given him the nickname "Daywalker".
  • World's Strongest Man: Subverted. Edwin Black was treated as close to an Invincible Villain as you could get in the original visual novels since his sheer power allowed him to easily beat anyone who opposed him in the setting, but spinoff entires (like Battle Arena or Action) revealed that while Black is immensely powerful, there are other demons that are his equals in destructive potential, and Black is simply the only one actively scheming against humanity.
  • Worf Had the Flu: The only reason the Task Force is eventually able to defeat him rather than being reduced to smears on the floor is that he has spent the twelve hours between Chapter 18 and 19 in a Mêlée à Trois with Astaroth and the King of the Death Wraiths, both of whom are his equals in power, and the Task Force just tricked him into taking an attack from the two, leaving him severly wounded.

    Oboro

Oboro

The Traitor
"I am Oboro...... Fufu, enough with the chit-chat, shall we? You best protect your throat when you sleep, kid."
Voiced by: Hyo-sei
Playable character

One of the executives of NOMAD and the archenemy of Asagi. Also known as "The Traitor Taimanin". Conniving and cruel, she aids Momochi in his self-righteous quest on behalf of her organization.

  • Adaptational Badass: After Oboro's seemingly died for the first time in the visual novels, she would always play dirty when going up against Asagi. This incarnation, however, won't hesitate to fight her nemesis head-on.
  • Arc Villain: The main menace of Chapter 3. After her Boss Battle, she's captured and imprisoned at Gosha until Chapter 6.
  • Arch-Enemy: Ever since she betrayed the Taimanin, Oboro and Asagi has been at each other's throats, and their animosity worsened after the latter killed her once.
  • Evil Doppelgänger: To the Masked Taimanin, "Oboro" is actually an evil clone of the original Oboro Koukawa, who escaped her supposed death by Edwin black, but not before NOMAD succesfully cloned her. The original Oboro escaped to the UFS and took to leading their anti-demons faction, while wearing a mask to not be mistaken for the sadistic clone criminal.
  • Evil Is Petty: Since Ingrid is Black's most highly-esteemed subordinate, Oboro cannot go about their rivalry in her usual Ax-Crazy ways, so she settle for pettiness:
    • She approved Lena's proposal for a multimedia project built around a heroine that looks a lot like Ingrid in a really-skimpy outfit with a cheesy premise based around her heroically fighting paper-thin pastiches of the Taimanin, even though it was probably unlikely to be profitable, just because she knew it would humiliate her rival and give her an excuse to force Ingrid into doing photo shoots in said skimpy outfit.
    • Lina's Playable Intimacy scene shows that Oboro went as far as approve that Lina (whom she only sees as a useful idiot at the best of times) be given an official award by Nomad, purely because it would give Oboro an opportunity to give a widely-seen speech where she would thank "the creative mind behind Corporate Warrior Ingrid".
  • Faux Affably Evil: When first encountering Asagi, Sakura and Yukikaze at the airport, she greets the Almighty Taimanin like an old friend before summoning a demonic beast to fight them, further reinforcing her vileness.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: As a NOMAD representative, that's a given. Surely enough, she outlives Momochi and escapes from Gosha.
  • Mind Control: Her Ninja Art involves hypnosis, and can be used mid-combat to freeze several enemies helplessly in place. Her unique story event involves her forcing a hit squad trying to kill her to instead butcher one another.
  • More Despicable Minion: Edwin Black is the Final Boss and Big Bad of the entire franchise, but he is more reasonable, restrained and pragmatic than Oboro, who is a petty sadist without any further motivations than simply enjoying hurting people.
  • Pre-Final Boss: She and Ingrid act as these to divert the task force from the ensuing three-way brawl between Black, Astaroth, and the King of the Death Wraiths.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Within Nomad, she is the Ax-Crazy sadistic Red to Ingrid's Noble Demon Blue.
  • The Rival: To Ingrid, and the two hate each other.
  • Stripperiffic: Her outfit makes Taimanin suits look tame, and her salacious mannerisms don't help matters.
  • The Tease: Enjoys playfully flirting with her foes such as Kotaro.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: Despite being a bit of a petty loser the grand scheme of things, Oboro sometimes comes out on top in event stories, outsmarting and outmaneuvering her Taimanin enemies and criminal rivals to gain more power and status in Nomad.
  • Villain Protagonist: Oboro is one of the playable characters and works for the Nebulous Evil Organization, Nomad. She's had several events from her point of view where the Task Force act as Hero Antagonists, and was the first antagonistic character to be Promoted to Playable.
  • Wolverine Claws: A pair of giant steel claws is her weapon Of choice.

    Ingrid

Ingrid

Hell Knight
"I can't believe I'm fighting on your side... But nevertheless. I shall fight to the end."
Voiced by: Sayaka Kinoshita
Playable character

Hell Knight Ingrid is Edwin Black's loyal aide, serving as his secretary, guard and enforcer. Although she looks human, she's actually descended from a royal-class demon and boasts superhuman strength. Ingrid wields her longsword, Dark Flame, in battle to ignite any foe who meets her blade.

  • Affably Evil: Ingrid is a pretty friendly person as shown in her Intimacy Events and is fine with complimenting her adversaries if they impress her. She's also an executive of Nomad and Edwin Black's most loyal follower.
  • Anime Hair: Ingrid has long, pink hair that's split into two large, symmetrical locks.
  • Badass Cape: Wears a red and black cape with silver trimmings.
  • Badass in a Nice Suit: She can wear her secretary outfit, which in-game is called "Substitute Teacher Ingrid," into battle.
  • Corporate-Sponsored Superhero: Her "Corporate Warrior" skin and Supporter version are this, being a propaganda project by Nomad to create a multimedia franchise starring her battling an evil paper-thin Expy of the Task Force. Most of the scripts for said franchise are not very good, written in collaboration between her startstruck protegee Lina and Ingrid’s shut-in cousin Dolores, approved of by Oboro purely because she knows Ingrid dislikes wearing the very skimpy costume and the silly stories and Ingrid likes Lina and Dolores too much to tell them what she really thinks of said scripts. Amusingly, despite its overall low quality, in later events it's picked up enough of a fanbase that Ingrid is repeatedly mistaken for a cosplayer of herself, only wearing the wrong costume.
  • Cute Monster Girl: Ingrid looks like an attractive normal human but is in fact a descendant of a royal-class demon.
  • Do Not Taunt Cthulhu: Ingrid is human by appearance, but is born from a demonic lineage. As her playable Intimacy Event shows, while she's somewhat cordial and professional on the surface, make her angry would be the last thing anyone around her should do; Fuuma riling her up while surfing results in her threatening to kill him on the spot. He even lampshades that taunting her is a bad idea.
  • The Dragon: Edwin Black's right-hand woman who also serves as his secretary.
  • Fatal Flaw: Her Supporter Intimacy Event describes her loyalty to Edwin Black as this, thinking of herself as his weapon and questioning his will as not her place. It's why, despite her many positive qualities, she remains an ultimately villainous character, since she's loyal to a monstrous crime lord who does not love her back.
  • Ignored Enamored Underling: Ingrid is infatuated with Lord Black but he has either not noticed her love for him or does not return it. Unusually for this trope, Black does appreciate Ingrid, but only insofar as she is a loyal, competent and reasonable underling.
  • Long Hair Is Feminine: Has long hair and is Nomad's most elegantly-mannered woman.
  • Magic Knight: She's a Hell Knight, a group of demons that only accept new members if they're equally skilled in martial and magical matters. Ingrid mostly uses her magical abilities to summon hellfire and enchance her swordswmanship, but she's also able to use other spells.
  • Noble Demon: Considerably more level-headed, reasonable and less evil than her coworkers or boss. The only reason she is an enemy is because of her Undying Loyalty towards Edwin Black. Notably, she's much more likely than her peers to engage in an Enemy Mine with the Task Force during events, since Black usually puts her in charge of Nomad's protection racket.
  • Noble Top Enforcer: Since Ingrid actually has a conscience, Black usually leaves her in charge of patrolling Nomad-controlled areas and keeping the peace there rather than the dark and shady parts of the crime syndicate's business.
  • Pet the Dog: Ingrid mostly shows her softer side towards Lina, going along with her apprentice's Zany Schemes even when it means having to wear embarrassing outfits.
  • Pink Means Feminine: Ingrid's long, pink hair draws attention to her graceful femininity.
  • Pre-Final Boss: She and Oboro act as this during the three-way brawl between Edwin Black, Astaroth, and the King of the Death Wraiths.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: The Affably Evil Hell Knight has red and black clothes with silver trimmings.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The Blue to Oboro's Red. Ingrid is calm and collected, reasonable and dislikes senseless violence, cruelty or underhanded tactics. Oboro is Ax-Crazy, sadistic, hot-headed and cruel.
  • Reluctant Fanservice Girl: Ingrid is always the first to complain about being shoved into skimpy outfits. For some reason, her fairly immodest battle armor never provokes the same reaction.
  • The Rival: With Oboro, both of them jockeying for power within Nomad. Ingrid because she wants to serve Black to the best of her abilities, Oboro because it gives her more leeway. The two cannot stand each other.
  • Sexy Secretary: Acts as Black's personal secretary, and has little if any apparel underneath her secretary suit, giving a clear view of her cleavage. One of her unlockeable costumes is that secretary outfit (although in-game it's labelled as Teacher Ingrid).
  • Technicolor Fire: Her hellfire attacks are purple, with white and black flecks.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: She's on bad terms with her associate, Oboro, and won't hesitate to scold her if she does something stupid.
  • Underboobs: Has the underside of her breasts exposed in her default outfit.
  • Undying Loyalty: She is the most fiercely loyal to Edwin Black which is partially motivated by her love towards him.
  • Vapor Wear: Underneath her secretary suit or regular outfit, Ingrid has no underwear whatsoever.
  • Villain Protagonist: She's one of the playable characters who also happens to work for Nomad.
  • When She Smiles: Ingrid usually has a stern, serious look on her face but once she lets her guard down, she has an incredibly attractive smile, which is perfectly demonstrated in her Corporate Warrior Intimacy Event.

Felicia

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/felicia_5.png
Vampire's Descendant
"What up? It's okay, Feli will play with you~"
Voiced by: Arisa Date
Playable character

Born from a demonic magic experiment, Felicia is the daughter of the Vampire King, Edwin Black, who she is fiercely territorial with and will unleash her fury on anyone who comes between them. She roams freely between the demon realm and the human realm, eventually meeting Fuuma Kotaro and developing an interest in him, enjoying his reactions whenever she helps or bothers him. Thanks to inheriting the blood of the Vampire King, Felicia's powers exceed that of a high-ranking demon. She possesses a high regenerative ability and can conjure and control a "Shadow Blade" that corrodes everything it touches.

  • Affectionate Nickname: Commonly addresses Fuuma as "bro" or "onii-san."
  • Ambiguously Related: Kurenai is explicitly described as half-vampire, but it is left unsaid if she is still Black's Child by Rape (which would make her and Felicia half-sisters) as in other continuities.
  • Cute and Psycho: Cute as a button and loves a good rampage. Played to good effect in her teaser where adorable childlike giggling is heard alongside creepy, ominous music and something that sounds like distorted, evil laughter.
  • Cute Little Fangs: Has two small vampire fangs in her mouth.
  • Cute Monster Girl: Felicia is a short vampire girl with pink hair, pointy ears, sharp teeth and a playful personality.
  • Daddy's Little Villain: The daughter of the Vampire King who in spite of her playful demeanor is quite malicious underneath.
  • The Gadfly: Felicia enjoys bothering Fuuma to get a reaction out of him.
  • Hypocrite: Insults Yukikaze's small cup size even though her's aren't much bigger.
  • Long Hair Is Feminine: Felicia has very long hair and has the personality of a mischievous little girl.
  • Pink Means Feminine: Has long, pink hair and acts like a little girl.
  • Psychopathic Womanchild: Felicia acts less like an adult woman and more like a bratty teenager. She refers to the trouble she causes as "playing," dresses like a young girl and has a childish voice. Even the way she refers to herself in third-person as "Feli" comes across as immature.
  • Sadist: Felicia enjoys inflicting pain on others, especially people like Kotaro she likes. Fortunately for him, she's just barely rational enough to understand that if she kills him, she won't be able to play with him anymore. It's why she was so thrilled to get a ring that would give her a succubus's ability to enter and influence dreams for her birthday; it meant she would be able to enter Kotaro's mind and kill him over and over without ever letting him die.
  • Sinister Scythe: Felicia uses a scythe as her weapon of choice. Some of her weapons' description state that they're shaped like that by her magic because she thinks it looks cool.
  • Third-Person Person: Has a habit of referring to herself in third-person as "Feli."
  • Villainesses Want Heroes: She develops an attachment towards Fuuma, even making chocolate for him on Valentine's Day in her Intimacy Event, and her teasing of Fuuma comes across as a child pulling the hair of her crush to get his attention.

Storm Knight
"Now's the time to keep my word...... Fine. I, Storm Knight Lina, will be your sword!"
Voiced by: Yuuki Kuwahara
Playable character
Ingrid's apprentice as a Hell Knight, Lina is powerful, just, and kind of dim. Originally a lower-class demon with minor wind powers, she joined Nomad out of admiration for Ingrid and worked her way up to being her right-hand woman.
  • Ambiguously Gay: Lina has never showed interest in boys or girls, but she sure does love pressuring her boss into wearing skimpy outfits. And then into posing in them. And then taking multiple pictures of her boss posing in them.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: For all that Lina is kind of a stupid comic relief character, she's still a talented fighter. It's worth noting that, unlike Ingrid herself, Lina's a lower-class demon who didn't have a lot of formal training before Ingrid, but her raw talent still saw her boss taking her on as a Hell Knight.
  • Blow You Away: She channels her wind powers through her sword, Sakura Blossom, creating gales of energy.
  • The Ditz: Just about everyone who meets Lina comes away with the impression she could stand to be less trusting and naïve.
  • Dumb Is Good: While Ingrid's Fatal Flaw is loyalty to her evil boss instead of her conscience, Lina at least has the excuse that she's not particularly observant or bright, and so actually doesn't seem to fully understand that Nomad is an international crime syndicate rather than some kind of organization for justice and peace, even when her boss is telling Lina to her face that they got caught with their hand in the cookie jar regarding human experimentation and other atrocities.
  • Evil Is One Big, Happy Family: Defied. Lina wholeheartedly sees Nomad this way, rather than the nest of scheming, backstabbing vipers constantly jockeying for position under Black it actually is, and her boss as representative of the organization as a whole rather than a Noble Top Enforcer.
  • Genki Girl: Say what you will about Lina, but don't say she doesn't throw herself with energy and passion into everything she does.
  • Her Codename Was Mary Sue: Due to "Corporate Warrior Ingrid" being a show written (at least partially) by Lina, and her own adoration of the Hell Knight, its scripts aren't what one would describe as "good".
  • Inconsistent Spelling: Lina's name is sometimes spelled "Leena."
  • Magic Knight: Just like Ingrid and as a Hell Knight in-training, Lina is capable of some measure of sorcery, although unlike Ingrid (who does sometimes cast spells rather than just enchancing her swordsmanship with it), Lina only uses it to be a better melee fighter.
  • Manchild: Lina's a rare female example. She's a good person in many ways, but part of her never grew up, and she still loves things like children's cartoons.
  • Mutually Unequal Relation: Lina thinks of Oboro as a fellow comrade in the grand Nomad organization. Oboro thinks of Lina as an occasionally useful idiot.
  • Obliviously Evil: Lina is actually, despite being a somewhat better person than Ingrid, significantly less likely to cooperate with the Taimanin than her boss, since in her mind Nomad are the good guys so their enemies must be horrible villains.
  • Oblivious to Their Own Description: During her Intimacy Event, she angrily describes a cartoon featuring the Taimanin as "proof" that the Taimanin are evil, because she sees it as propaganda meant to brainwash little kids. Lina is a part of Nomad, an international criminal organization with a huge slaving arm that extensively employs both mundane and fantastical actual brainwashing techniques, sometimes on children. Also, after falling in love with the cartoon anyway, because Lina's a big kid on the inside, she manages to get Nomad producing its own propaganda cartoon aimed at children, and she ends up being the primary writer and creative lead.
  • Odd Friendship: Even though she and Ingrid's slacker, depressive shut-in cousin, Dolores, couldn't be more different, they've bonded over shared admiration for Ingrid herself, and after Dolores introduces Lina to the silly Taimanin Five cartoon, they collaborate on what turns into a Nomad propaganda anime series.
  • Promoted Fanboy: In-universe, Lina is almost literally an Ingrid fangirl who got promoted to work with her idol.
  • Razor Wind: Where her epitet of "Storm Knight" comes from, with Lina making liberal use of blades of wind, compared to her mentor's hellfire.
  • The Squire: As Hell Knight Ingrid's devoted, loyal, and admiring apprentice, Lina is basically a modern version.
  • Subordinate Excuse: Her Playable Intimacy scene shows that Lina absolutely loves working under Ingrid, even passing the opportunity for an eventual promotion (by ditching the ceremony where she would be given an official Nomad mark of recommendation) to go help the Hell Knight defeat a monster that was in the area.
  • Villains Out Shopping: Lina, being a child at heart, can't help but get really, really into Taimanin Five, despite hating the Taimanin as villains.

    Toyo Momochi (unmarked spoilers

Toyo Momochi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/momochi_toyo_min.png
The Traitor Taimanin
"To be the 'leading role' on the stage of history..."
A former member of the Igawa clan, and Asagi's teacher, Momochi Toyo is a fallen Taimanin and terrorist who has devoted himself to the destruction of the status quo of the new Cold War. He kicks off the main plot by collaborating with NOMAD to steal a bioweapon from a scientist attempting to defect to the UFS.

His Ninja Art seemingly lets him produce copies of himself, and he uses a variety of sharp weapons, including a sword with blade-catching spikes, a claw on the end of a chain, and a whole lot of throwing blades.

  • Arch-Enemy: Momochi immediately earns Kotaro's hatred the moment he starts encouraging his minions to throw away their humanity using a Psycho Serum, not even helped with Momochi mocking the idea of friendship to Kotaro's face. Making Momochi being one of, if not, the only Taimanin antagonists that is not Oboro, Astaroth, or even Edwin Black to make Kotaro very angry to the point even Su herself is shocked at seeing him completely incensed.
  • The Chessmaster: Almost to the very end, the Taimanin find themselves outmaneuvered and outsmarted by their quarry, as Momochi manages to catch them by surprise and steal the bioweapon, kill his contact within the Venamese Liberation Army before he can be interrogated, fool them with a feint and a body-double, and start the terror attack. Later deconstructed when it turns out his plans are a lot more haphazard than they at first appear.
  • Clipped-Wing Angel: His hideous, building-sized final boss form is actually much easier to deal with than his normal shape, presenting a big target with long wind-ups on his easily-dodged attacks, and only gets weaker as the player chops off more and more of its limbs. The hardest part is, ironically, the swarms of his body doubles that show up while the battle is ongoing.
  • Deconstructed Character Archetype: Of the Diabolical Mastermind engaging in constant gambits. Momochi's plans-within-plans turn out to be products of his degrading mental state, with Kotaro eventually pointing out how many of them contradict one another, rely on factors completely outside of his control, or even seem self-defeating, and his willingness to sacrifice anything to bring them to fruition ultimately causes his final defeat.
  • Depending on the Writer: Ultimately defied with the revelation that Momochi is doping on demon blood that's driving him hopelessly insane by his second appearance; this is why he can go from ranting about hating the Gosha leadership for being lapdogs of the complacent government to putting his trust in Asagi to fix the world he'll wreck over the course of a few sentences.
  • Elite Mooks: Those wannabe-ninjas he's personally trained are significantly tougher than the standard models.
  • Evil Counterpart: To Kotaro Fuuma, rightfully so as Kotaro himself acknowledged having so many similarities to Momochi. Both happen to be Taimanins who lack the ability to master their own ninjutsu, but somehow having a natural talent that make a difference. Kotaro is the task force's computer expert and Mission Control while Momochi is a trained swordsman for most of his life. Kotaro began trusting his fellow Taimanins not minding how many times he gets looked down upon, Momochi is more willing to encourage his own followers to throw away their humanity, including his in pursuit of a utopia where humans are free from the corruption by demons. Momochi's utter Lack of Empathy is the one moment that made Fuuma finally snap.
  • Guilt-Free Extermination War: Momochi's goal is to instigate a war between humanity and demonkind so that one side will leave no survivors, which explains his attempt to leak the data of the Nomad's connections to various world governments.
  • Fantastic Racism: Momochi is openly bigoted towards all of demonkind as a whole, having no qualms of exterminating all demons around the world, even those who coexist with humanity.
  • Final Solution: Momochi desires to wipe out every demon from the face of the Earth to the point he plans to upload all the information of the Demon Realm and the Nomad for the entire world to see to gaslight humanity and demonkind to go into an all-out war of extermination between two races until either side leave no survivors.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: A skillful swordsman and Asagi's former master who went mad over his inability to master his own ninjutsu to becoming a notorious terrorist that caused a Zombie Apocalypse and plans to further widen the rift between humanity and demonkind.
  • He Who Fights Monsters: His daughter Nagi outright calls him out for his atrocities he has committed, making him no better than the Nomad.
  • The Heavy: Momochi is primarily the main source of the conflict the task force engages with, while the Nomad are more or less likely the Lesser of Two Evils until the endgame chapters.
  • Humans Are Bastards: He comes to view humans, including world governments who side with Nomad, as part of the problem, and decided to personally rectify this mistake. This isn't a consistent belief the way his hatred of demons is, but he does sometimes sink into misanthropy.
  • Humans Are the Real Monsters: Momochi epitomizes the worst of humanity's anti-demon extremism. Most Taimanins have demon blood within them and even willing to co-exist with benign demons. Momochi has no compunctions in further widening the rift between humanity and demonkind to the point of plotting to trick both sides into a Guilt-Free Extermination War. He would go so far as to sacrificing his own humanity to make sure his goals are met.
  • Knight of Cerebus: He stands out as a much more serious threat being able to be one step ahead of the Taimanins compared to Black and even Oboro. Toyo is more than willing to unleash a zombie apocalypse on a global scale. Matters not helped that he even plans to instigate an all-out war between humanity and demonkind to the point of extermination between races.
  • Knight Templar: Momochi's end goal is to overthrow world governments sympathizing with Nomad and the extremes he'll go to borderline from commiting high-scale atrocities like causing a Zombie Apocalypse to conspiring to reveal the existence of every demonic creature to the world, in which by doing so could lead into an all-out war between humanity and demonkind to the point of extermination to further justify his disillusionment with the current state of the world.
  • Lack of Empathy: Momochi shows little to no concern for the well-being of his own underlings, having no problem of viewing them as expendable pawns for his goals and even encouraging them to sacrifice their own humanity through a Psycho Serum in the name of a greater good.
  • Master Swordsman: He was Asagi's personal sword instructor, and even with her superpowered abilities it takes until the double-digit chapters for her to surpass him. This is especially impressive since it turns out he's in the same boat as Kotaro and has no Ninja Art; while it's ambiguous when, exactly, he started shooting up on demon blood for power ups, a credible read of the evidence is that the unstoppable killing machine he was in the first four chapters was pure skill.
  • Me's a Crowd: His Ninja Art seemingly lets him copy himself, something he uses in both variations of his boss fight to force the player to fight four clones of himself. It's later revealed these are just body doubles, since he has no Ninja Art.
  • Moral Sociopathy: Momochi is still far from being The Sociopath, and what keeps him from becoming one is having a sense of right and wrong. He still despises demons that corrupt humanity as a whole, but as his daughter Nagi pointed out that every worst deed Momochi has done, regardless of how good-intentioned he may be, makes him no better than the Nomad.
  • A Nazi by Any Other Name: The terrorist variant. Momochi has a very prejudiced ideology, viewing the existence of demons as a blight to humanity and world governments who sympathize with factions like the Nomad. He has no problem instigating a Guilt-Free Extermination War between humans and demons and plans to use Asagi as his puppet leader for his ideal utopia.
  • One-Winged Angel: When finally cornered in Venam, he shoots himself up with a massive dose of the Creeping Death, transforming him into a gigantic, building-sized abomination. The process turns him into a mindless force of destruction, but he's willing to do it if it means furthering his aim and destroying the Task Force.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: Chapter 15 reveals that Momochi not only plans to expose Nomad, but also expose the existence of demonic creatures to the world, which will lead to an endless cycle of death and destruction between humanity and demonkind until there would be no survivors left on either side, making Asagi's response to Momochi's endgame during the confrontation all the more plausible. Although he usually claims accelerationism, arguing that these short-term teething pains will ultimately make a better world, in his darker moments Momochi actually agrees with her.
  • Psycho Serum: Momochi's increasing use of blood from ever-more-powerful demons degrades and warps his body and mind and drags him ever closer to a total physical meltdown even as it supercharges his physical abilities. It also turns out to be the means he uses to become an Empowered Badass Normal, since he has no Ninja Art.
  • Redemption Earns Life: Downplayed inasmuch as how much life it earns him is ambiguous, but giving up his mad ambitions and going into semi-retirement after trying to help Asagi and the Taimanin one last time seems to have at least somewhat stabilized his mental state and ruined body, if only because he's no longer actively pumping Psycho Serum into it.
  • Shadow Archetype: He turns out to be one to Kotaro Fuuma himself, a fellow brilliant, charismatic Taimanin who never awakened his Ninja Art and faced feelings of inferiority and discrimination because of it. But where Kotaro refused to let those feelings define him, ultimately stepping up more and more to head the Task Force and use his real talents to make a difference, Momochi allowed his envy and self-loathing to consume him, leading him to embrace ever more self-destructive means of empowering himself at the expense of his physical and mental well-being. And while Kotaro's friendship and support from his comrades helped him shore up his sense of self-worth and grow into a leader, Momochi's obsession with sacrifice causes him to lead his own followers to their deaths, nearly destroying himself in the process.
  • Straw Nihilist: At his core, Momochi finds no value in life, including his own, along with the extreme lengths he will go to achieve his goals. It's a manifestation of his self-loathing for never being able to manifest a Ninja Art, even though realistically as a Master Swordsman and Badass Normal whose genius and charisma almost brought the world to its knees, he has nothing to be ashamed of.
  • Übermensch: Played with and deconstructed. Momochi believes that he can help the oppressed to rise up against those who hold power, even if it means making sacrifices for the greater good. But as far as the gravity of his atrocities go, he becomes progressively self-destructive and not only is willing to sacrifice even his own underlings, but his own humanity as well.
  • Villainous Legacy: After Momochi's defeat and semi-Heel–Face Turn into retirement, one of his main body doubles and disciples continues to lead his faction of rogue Taimanin in his absence, doubling-down on all of his destructive philosophies and ensuring that the damage Momochi has done will outlive him.
  • Villain Respect: While he sneers at their willingness to work for the government and uphold the status quo rather than revolt against it as he has done, Momochi still has some respect for his greatest pupil, Asagi, and never discounts the possibility that the Taimanin could destroy his plans if they get close enough. Although his insanity by his second appearance makes it difficult to tell how true it is, at least some of the time his plan is for Asagi to assume absolute power as a military dictator and fix the world while cleaning up after him.
  • Walking Spoiler: It's hard to thoroughly discuss the full extent of Momochi's end goal for players new to the game.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Momochi wants to help the oppressed and colonized people of the world rise up against both the UFS and the Chinese Union... and he doesn't care how many of them he has to kill to do it. Notably, his plot to help the Venamese people sees countless Venamese citizens and expatriates dead. Later, he also tries to bring down the Japanese government so that Asagi will have to assume power as a military dictator to restore order, and to expose the identities of every demon living on Earth to the public, even though it's made clear that this will only cause countless law-abiding demons living incognito who haven't done anything wrong to suffer hardship and discrimination or even trapped in a cycle of hatred and violence between humanity and demonkind that could wipe out either sides.

    Astaroth

Astaroth

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/astaroth_5.png
Queen of the Inferno
"It's Astaroth. Huhu, is it that weird that I want to help you?"
Voiced by: Misa Ishii
Playable character

The powerful ruler of the magma-flowing, burning plains in the corner of the demon realm, the "Queen of the Inferno" has the power to manipulate fire at will. Astaroth is centuries old and an acquaintance of the Vampire King, Edwin Black, but went their separate ways due to conflicting views. She encountered the task force on Kotrara Island, her base of operations, and has frequently clashed with UFS and the Chinese Union, because of her chosen place, but there are no records of any serious harm towards the two organizations.

  • Advancing Boss of Doom: Not in gameplay terms, but story-wise the entirety of Chapter 10 consists of the Task Force running away from her as she is powerful enough to easily kill them.
  • All-Powerful Bystander: She is a "Royal demon", one of the most powerful demons in existence and explicitly described as being the equal of Edwin Black in sheer destructive potential, but she is much more interested in simply enjoying herself than in inflicting grand-scale destruction or suffering.
  • Bad Boss: Has no problem with abusing her Succubus minions in order to "motivate" them to do her bidding.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: Although her fight against the King of the Death Wraiths and Edwin Black ended in a stalemate thanks to the task force defeating the Vampire King, Astaroth is the only high-ranking demon to ultimately come up on top by leaking Momochi's data to the world, leading to a global turmoil between countries and subsequently the downfall of Nomad.
  • Bad Guys Do the Dirty Work: She decides to leak all of Momochi's files exposing the Nomad's evil to the world. Not only she did Momochi a favor, she also instigated an Enemy Civil War between herself and Edwin Black.
  • Bathing Beauty: Hot springs are one of her favoured pleasures. Her Playable Character Intimacy event has Kotaro stumble on her bathing, and one of the story event has her go on a three-minutes rampage of destruction because the baths at the establishment she stayed at were unsatisfactory.
  • Beware the Superman: Given her past as the Sun Goddess that once worshipped by a certain ancient civilization, her immense power over fire proved to be a clear danger to the human realm.
  • Blood Knight: Battling strong opponents is one of her favorite pleasures.
  • Colony Drop: A variation. But one of her basic skills as well as her Ultimate both involves her creating an immense fireball above enemies, and then dropping it on them.
  • The Dreaded: Astaroth has a fearsome reputation both among her minions and the Taimanin as her powers make her near invulnerable and extremely destructive if angered.
  • Enemy Civil War: She had a falling out with Edwin Black at some point and has since distanced herself from him. Then in chapter 16, she decides to further escalate the tension by using Momochi's information about the Nomad's connections with world governments and various criminal syndicates leaking them for the entire world to see. The Taimanins also proceeded to drag the Death Wraiths into the conflict.
  • Evil Former Friend: To Edwin Black, due to their conflicting worldview. Black only seeks to expand his criminal empire while Astaroth only lives to satisfy her worldly pleasures. She even go so far to leak Momochi's data of Nomad's connections to various world governments just to spite him.
  • Evil Is Petty: One story event see her tricked into bathing in a crappy establishment. Her answer to the disappointing experience? Declare that she is about to go on a destructive rampage for three minutes, and anyone still alive after that is forgiven.
  • Fallen Angel: Or Fallen Goddess to be exact. She was once worshipped as a Sun Goddess by an ancient civilization, but her tremendous power proved her to be a threat to the entire world as a result.
  • Fallen Heroine: Her Dark Sun supporter bio states that she was once worshipped as the Goddess of the Sun by a certain ancient civilization centuries ago, while she is reviled as a demon everywhere else. Then, she got completely bored with the human world. Given that her destructive power makes enough sense that she would become what she would be known in the present as "Queen of Inferno".
  • Healing Factor: Like all high-ranking demons, Astaroth has an extremely potent one. In chapter 19 she is thrown into a wall hard enough for her arms and spine to bend "at unnatural angles" but she is treats it as barely an inconvenience and heals in instants.
  • The Hedonist: The King of the Death Wraiths insults her by saying as much. Astaroth completely agrees with him, saying that someone of her power is in the right to do whatever she wishes. She is overall more interested in enjoying herself with hot springs, fighting, sex, and good food than in causing any grand-scale suffering or evil.
  • It Amused Me: The bio of her Playable version (whether it's canon or not) states that the only reason she is helping the Task Force is "a powerful demon acting on a whim". As The Hedonist, this is also the reason for almost anything she does.
  • Just Toying with Them: The only reason the Task Force survive their encounters with her is that each times she is explicitly looking for amusement rather than their death. The very first encounter in chapter 10 is explicitly a Run or Die situation as Asagi herself utterly failed to hurt her.
  • Killer Rabbit: She conjures rabbits made out of her flames called "Yuuto". They can explode on contact, and even multiply to create a sea of fire.
  • Mad Bomber: The simple fact that she can create fire bunnies with high explosive power and can multiply like rodents that can create a sea of fire. She really enjoys blowing stuff up.
  • Mood-Swinger: While Astaroth is less of a macro-level threat than Edwin Black due to her lack of ambition and malice, she's no less dangerous due to her extremely mercurial personality.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: By leaking Momochi's data on a worldwide scale she does more damage to Edwin Black's criminal empire and the Task Force bringing the Death Wraiths into the fray, which sets up the Story Mode's endgame chapters.
  • Nigh-Invulnerable: One of the most powerful demons in existence has the durability to match, and it is mentionned that the Task Force's strongest attacks (courtesy of Shiranui and Asagi) barely phaze her. It takes getting into a fight with the similarly-powerful Edwin Black and King of the Death Wraiths for Astaroth to start getting wounded in any meaningful way, and even then she's back to normal in seconds.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: You're not considered the equal of Edwin Black without being this. The island where the Task Force first meets her is noted to have been reduced to a fiery wasteland by her rampage, and the three-way melee between her, Black, and the King of the Death Wraiths levels the military base they're brawling in, while the three of them are barely damaged by it.
  • Playing with Fire: She has immense power over her ability to control fire.
  • Psychopathic Womanchild: For a powerful demon who has been around the human world for centuries, Astaroth is unpredictably childish, causing chaos just to satisfy her boredom.
  • Red Baron: "Queen of the Inferno", befitting both her position as a "royal" demon and her powers.
  • Really 700 Years Old: Astaroth's age is never elaborated upon. Her Dark Sun supporter bio states that she has been around the human world centuries ago when an ancient civilization worshipped her as a Sun Goddess.
  • Satanic Archetype: Her Dark Sun form and base form all invoke this. As she was once worshipped by an ancient civilization as the Goddess of the Sun but her immense power proved to be overwhelmingly dangerous that she becomes a threat to the human world. In the present, she is a high-ranking demon who not only enjoys causing chaos, but has a need for stimulation to keep herself amused.
  • The Sociopath: A low key example, but nevertheless shows notable textbook traits. Astaroth has a blatant lack of fear or shame, shows little to no concern for the collateral damage she causes, with her most defining is her need for stimulation, and not having the slightest problem causing mayhem and destruction if agitated enough or just for kicks.
  • Troll: She enjoys messing with humans and demons alike just to get their reactions.
  • Villain Protagonist: One of the setting's most powerful demons, ambivalent to the Task Force at best in her appearances, and a playable character.
  • We Used to Be Friends: She and Edwin Black were once close associates, until her boredom made her fall out with the vampiric crime lord.

The King of the Death Wraiths (unmarked spoilers for Chapters 16-19)

The King of the Death Wraiths

"I want to know how bright your souls are— now, amuse me!!"
Voiced by: Jiro Saito
A high-rank demon who is one of the ten most powerful demons in the demon realm, and the ruler of the Death Wraiths.

Currently, he is the chief of one of the three powers vying for the title of the demon realm's next ruler. He is leading an alliance composed of many races that follow him. He insists that he is in this competition more for his hatred of the vampire, Edwin Black, than for the throne of the demon realm.

His body is composed of the fire of his soul, and he has no true form.
  • Affably Evil: Being a Death Wraith, he shows no hostility towards humans and treats the task force with civility as he tests each of the Taimanins' determination. He has no problem even using other allies as bait to get ahead, something that Fuuma accepts.
  • Blood Knight: Like many high-ranking demons, the King of the Death Wraiths glories in the thrill of combat. His status as a nigh-immortal means that the risk of death isn't a part of it, but he still enjoys displaying his immense strength and skill, and sometimes spares enemies that fight fiercely enough in battles they effectively cannot win. In one event, he holds a tournament where human "teams" representing in-universe factions battle non-lethally while the Death Wraiths simply watch, but naturally after the final round he can no longer restrain himself from running into the battlefield and participating personally.
  • Blue-and-Orange Morality: Death Wraiths devour human souls, but they do so as a weird manifestation of love and fascination for humans, and they prefer human souls that are pure and virtuous, even if those virtues have lost their way. This is also the reason for their racial animosity towards vampires (and implicitly witches), which corrupt the soul and turn humans into demonic beings.
  • The Dreaded: He's a high-rank demon whose power equals that of the Queen of the Inferno and the Vampire King himself. And the fact that they both engage in a fight to the death in the last five chapters and the destruction they left behind on the UFS base is on a nearly apocalyptic level.
  • Expy Coexistence: Originally seemingly a clear copy-cat of Teutates, another master of undead demons in the franchise, it's later made very explicit that both exist and don't get along.
  • A Father to His Men: The King does not treat his own kin as expendables, as despite the immortality of the Death Wraiths, he's more concerned with the well-being of his kind.
  • The Giant: The King of the Death Wraith takes form of a colossal armored skeleton armed with a large mace. It's no wonder he stands out as one of the most powerful high-ranking demons in the Taimanin series, and he makes both Astaroth and Edwin Black looking like mice that he's about to crush underneath his heel.
  • Good Counterpart: "Good" is relative, he is still a demon who eats human souls. But the King of the Death Wraiths is nonetheless portrayed as the lesser evil in comparison to the other demonic rulers who've shown up so far.
    • To Edwin Black. Both are feared demonic monarchs of their respective kins. Black is stoic and unperturbed, but his mere presence alone is enough to instill dread. The King of the Death Wraiths, while uncompromising, is loud and bombastic when pumped up. Black has the power to manipulate gravity, while the King of the Death Wraiths can be empowered by positive energies of the human soul such as benevolence and unwavering resolve.
    • Also to Astaroth. They both live to fight strong opponents, but the King of the Death Wraiths has a sense of restraint, challenging only those who possess a pure of heart and unwavering willpower.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: To Toyo Momochi, as he is one who put his conviction to the test.
  • The Juggernaut: He's the tallest known character in the game to easily dwarf both Astaroth and Edwin Black, and the destruction they both leave behind goes up on an apocalyptic scale.
  • Knight of Cerebus: Momochi's presence and his goals were already dark in and of itself. The Death Wraiths being roped as the third party of the ensuing Enemy Civil War between Astaroth and Edwin Black becomes a battle for demonic supremacy and the destruction they left behind reaches on a biblical scale.
  • Large and in Charge: He is the top dog of the Death Wraiths and is further enforced by his hulking stature.
  • Large Ham: The King of the Death Wraiths is loud and bombastic once he is ready to fight, further complimenting his gargantuan appearance. Otherwise, he often speaks with solemn cordiality when in deep thought.
  • Nerves of Steel: He barely flinches even when under pressure, as Fuuma observed, the mere fact that the King is so uncompromising even when the numbers are against him is astounding.
  • Nominal Hero: He and his fellow Death Wraiths join forces with the Taimanins to bring down Edwin Black, but the King has no problem being sneaky at using his human allies as bait to get ahead. Fuuma, on the other hand, is okay with it though so long as it results in the success of the mission.
  • Shadow Archetype: To both Fuuma and Momochi without their inferiority complex overshadowing their skills as a Taimanin, having the confidence to master their own natural abilities without having the need of a ninja art. It also helps that Momochi came to the King to test his worth and resolve.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: To Teutates, who holds a similar position and role in the Battle Arena continuity, as a more neutrally-aligned demon leader of The Undead. Surprisingly, Teutates does exist within Action's continuity too, as Toyo Momochi mentions him as one of the demons influencing mankind that he opposes, and Teutates's servant Wight eventually shows up as an Event villain who specifically mentions that her kind and the Death Wraiths don't get along.
  • There Can Be Only One: The King of the Death Wraiths belives that there's no room for other high-ranking demons to reign supreme over other demons and one must contend against other monarch demons to earn that right.
  • Undead Abomination: Also with humanoid features; the King of the Death Wraith's physical form is that of a colossal, armored skeleton even though his body is mostly composed of the fire in his soul.
  • World's Strongest Man: His brute strength is unparalleled among other demons, and given his size, he easily dwarfs even Astaroth and Edwin Black.
  • Your Soul Is Mine!: A variant. Death Wraiths are drawn to positive energies of the human soul, such as benevolence and indomitable will.

Steel Witch
"Annerose Vajra, Detective of Amidahara, people call me Steel Witch."
Voiced by: Hikaru Aoi
Playable character

Born from a union between a demon and a human, Annerose is a witch who runs a detective agency in both the human world and the demon realm. Her domain is the city of Amidahara, where she's acquainted with powerful leaders, both friend and foe alike. After meeting the Taimanin Task Force through a certain incident in Amidahara, she formed a loose cooperation with them. She wields the legendary demonic sword, Vajrayksha, and is reputed as the strongest swordsman in Amidahara.

  • Fire-Forged Friends: Having helped one another out when her own villain Bardo experimented with the bioweapon that created the zombie creatures in Amidahara, Annerose has become a friend of the Task Force and accompanies them in a few later events.
  • Foil: Laid-back, mercenary Annerose to the serious, straight-laced Asagi, since they visibly resemble one another, are the main characters of their intertwined series, have similar fighting styles, and even share a weapon. And while Asagi is a fundamentally good person who nonetheless has a brutal and fearsome side, Annerose is an ethically-flexible witch who nonetheless has a heart of gold.
  • Guest Fighter: Selected from a fan-poll, Annerose is taken from a spin-off that had to be licensed separately.
  • Improbable Weapon User: In addition to her sword, she fights with a briefcase. It's actually her shapeshifted demon familiar, who channels a variety of magical effects.
  • Magic Knight: Annerose mixes a variety of spells into her swordfighting, including potentially her basic combos.
  • Master Swordsman: Annerose is the greatest among Amidahara's swordsmen.
  • Sideboob: Her default outfit as an exposed view of her breasts on the side.
  • Technicolor Fire: Her witch fire is always black.

Akimbo Pistols Hunter
"I'm Aina Winchester. I'm just a mercenary, yet you've included me as an official member of your team...... Well, I'll do as much as I can"
Voiced by: Asami Sanada
Playable character

An Ex UFS mercenary who was saved by a UFS soldier from a demon who killed her parents and took her eye when she was a child and subsequently grew up in an orphanage. Later, she graduated from a UFS academy and became a bounty hunter who earns her pay from slaying demons. Her actions drew the attention of the UFS, who cooperated with and provided supplies on her missions. While she was contracted with DSO, she was deployed on missions alongside the Taimanin Task Force due to the two cooperating, and would eventually be registered as an official member. Rumor has it that the eye of a demon is hidden beneath her eyepatch, and she applies the power of the eye to her weapons.

  • Could Say It, But...: When fought as part of a demonic group opposing the Task Force, Aina loudly proclaim that the Task Force's defences are so sloppy that she could easily "shoot Kotaro in the head", to let them him know to dodge in time.
  • Eye Scream: When she was young, a demon tortured Aina by having her right eye dug out of its socket.
  • Eyepatch of Power: She wields an eyepatch that's rumored to hide a demonic eye.
  • Gun Fu: Unlike Yukikaze, who shares her Guns Akimbo weapon type, Aina's fighting style is very mobile and involves lots of spinning or focused fire.
  • The Lad-ette: Aina has short hair, wears practical clothes, and enjoys weight training, shooting and firearm cleaning.
  • Mage Marksman: So far into the "Gunman" archetype that she barely qualifies as one, but her demonic eye is stated to be the reason her guns are vastly more powerful than normal UFS ones.
  • Magical Eye: The eye under her eyepatch (visible during her Ultimate attack and if one choose to remove her eypatch when equipping her Costumes) is a yellow demonic one compared to her remaining normal eye, which is blue.
  • Meaningful Name: Aina Winchester fights using firearms (albeit pistols rather than rifles).
  • Only in It for the Money: While Aina is generally a good person, she is also explicitly a mercenary and has few issues working for demons if they pay her well enough. The achivements for playing her enough are even called "Come on, renew the contract!".

    Sabato Kiryu

Sabato Kiryu

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kiryu_sabato.jpg
Demon Surgeon

A demon surgeon who specializes in demonic medical technology. In his younger days, Sabato Kiryu belonged to a medical institution affiliated with the government but specialized in demonic technology after getting acquainted with demons, and gaining knowledge about human modification and enhancement. He used to work for Nomad and was planned to be killed by the Taimanin but was instead brought to Gosha Academy by Murasaki Yatsu as a means to provide medical assistance and is kept in line out of both love and fear of the Undying Taimanin. Kiryu confined himself underground after an argument with Murasaki but reemerged after his crush returned from a mission on Kotrara Island and requested for his return.

  • Abhorrent Admirer: Consistently makes unwanted romantic advances towards Murasaki to the point one of his pastimes is writing a diary about how many times and how he was rejected. Kiryu also has a Stalker Shrine filled with pictures of her in the infirmary, and some of the other Taimanin enjoy teasing the Undying about his devotion to her, much to her dismay. Sabato's crush also has its benefits as Murasaki convinced the doctor to cooperate with Gosha by threatening to never speak to him again if he refuses, keeping him in line.
  • Amazon Chaser: Gets turned on by seeing Murasaki slaughter her enemies during training and almost wishes to be slaughtered by her himself.
  • Dr. Jerk: Is condescending to his peers and dismissively refuses to use anesthetics when treating someone's wounds.
  • Insufferable Genius: He's good at what he does and will gladly tell everyone else how incompetent he thinks everyone that's not Murasaki is, even experienced medical professionals like Emily.
  • Jerkass: Kiryu is quite patronizing to those he views as lesser than him and doesn't bother to use anesthetics when healing the Taimanins.
  • Jerkass to One: Inverted, as Kiryu acts derisive to everyone except Murasaki, his crush.
  • Large Ham: Kiryu is very theatric to say the least even for a Mad Scientist to the point of having a knack for Evil Laughs.
  • Mad Doctor: An expert in demonic medical technology who laughs evilly during treatment and doesn't care to use anesthetics before performing surgery on his patients but is still respected for his talents.
  • Mean Boss: Bosses around Gosha's nurses such as Yuuna Shinjou, whose name he can't be bothered to remember.
  • Nominal Hero: Has no moral interest in healing the Taimanins, only doing so because his crush Murasaki asked him to.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Kiryu is a former Nomad scientist who still hasn't abandoned his Mad Scientist vibes, treats those around him poorly and is only motivated out of his love for Murasaki.

    Masked Taimanin

Masked Taimanin

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/masked_taimanin.png
Director of the DSO

The Masked Taimanin is a mysterious figure. Her face always hidden behind various masks, no one knows of her name, past, or anything about her identity. What is known about her is that she came from Japan to the UFS and offered to lead the DSO, their defense/anti-demon division. Ruthless in her fight against demons, she is devoted to the protection of mankind against demonic influences.

  • All There in the Manual: Within Action itself, very little is shown or told about her, and she is a mysterious figure making sporadic appearances. Those who played the original visual novels or the others spinoffs know that she is Oboro Koukawa, who escaped her capture by NOMAD, but couldn't prevent them from making evil clones of her, one of which is the one known as "Oboro".
  • The Coats Are Off: When fought as a VR boss, emptying her health bar once prompts an animation of her tossing her coat aside before starting her second phase, where she hits harder, faster, has more health and her moveset is expanded.
  • Cool Mask: Constantly seen wearing one, to hide her identity. She has several different ones, and her face is never seen.
  • Doppelgänger Attack: One of her moves during her second phase in VR missions is to summon clones of herself. Unlike usual example, telling the real from the fake is easy (the clones still have her coat and are weaker), but it does add many enemies on the field of what is a normal Boss Battle until that point.
  • Dual Wielding: When fought as a VR boss, she uses a pair of daggers. They can be bought and used by players if they have the corresponding characters.
  • Good is Not Nice: Fully dedicated to protecting the UFS from demons, she's not above using any number of underhanded tricks, including the creation and use of Saya NEO.
  • The Spook: The only thing that is certain about her actual identity is that she's originally from Japan, and that's about it. It is hinted that Asagi might know more, but she doesn't tell.

    Eleonor

Eleonor

Dark Elf
"I'm Eleonor, a Dark Elf from the deep, dark forest. Don't you forget that."
Voiced by: Rie Okamoto
Playable character

Eleonor is a Dark Elf hailing from a forest within the demon realm's mountains. Her younger sister had been abducted by traffickers, hence her reason to visit the human world.

  • Apologetic Attacker: At the end of her normal attack, Eleonor apologizes to the enemy.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: She thought that the obviously shady people she just met in the Crapsack World that is the Taimanin-verse were going to help her find her sister. Instead, she was nearly sold off as a slave at a creepy auction. Thankfully for her, Kotaro caught wind of this and managed to gather enough Taimanin to save her and kill off most of the people responsible for her abduction.
  • Making a Splash: Though capable in a few other sorts of spells, most of her abilities involve channeling the destructive and purifying power of water.
  • Our Elves Are Different: She's a brown-skinned elf, and like most of them can use elemental magic.
  • Seers: As revealed by her "Prophet" Supporter scene, her magical abilities also include a limited ability to predict the future, and she spent one Halloween as a fortune teller.
  • Statuesque Stunner: Eleonor is pretty tall by human standards at 1.73 meters or about 5' 8''. Among playable characters, only Rin and Maika match her height.

Spinel (unmarked spoilers for Chapter 20)

Spinel

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/spinel_63.png
Mercenary Captain
"Call me Spinel! Never thought I'd join forces with Taimanin...... I guess it's because I'm a mercenary."
Voiced by: Hiromi Igarashi
Playable character

Spinel is a demon leading a group of other demonic mercenaries hailing from the demon realm. Sora Kannazuki killed the group's previous leader, so Spinel journeyed to the human world to prove herself stronger than the ninja who her old boss, by killing Sora.

  • The Alleged Boss: Spinel is theoretically the leader of her warband, but her excitable nature means that her underling Lapis is the one hatching most of the plans.
  • Authority in Name Only: Spinel is the newly-appointed leader of her mercenary warband, but she is very impulsive, excitable, and has a short attention span, so her underling Lapis is often acting as her supervisor and guiding her (to the point of being something of a motherly figure; giving her allowance, insisting she finishes her plates when she eats and assigning her bodyguards for her safety when she wanders on her own). During her Supporter Intimacy event, she and Kotaro actually bond over being these.
  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: Deconstructed. She got the position of leader of her warband after wounding her previous leader and leaving him stranded in the human world. Unfortunately, the one who actually did land the killing blow was Sora Kannazuki, so Spinel came to the human realm with the explicit purpose of killing Sora, to prove she was stronger than the Taimanin who killed her old boss. Also, Spinel herself isn't really leader-material.
  • Badass in Distress: In the "Concerto of Red and Crimson" event, she gets roped into a robbery and got held hostage briefly during a standoff between Spica and one of the robbers until Spinel just sends her captor flying.
  • Character Development: An off-screen example. In both Lapis' playable and supporter Intimacy episodes, Spinel is also shown to be a more responsible captain despite being Authority in Name Only. She has better social skills with her interactions with Fuuma in her supporter's Intimacy episode. In chapter 21, she opted to retreat instead of taking the task force head on, showing that despite letting Lapis take charge as her second-in-command, Spinel avoids making bad decisions that put the lives of her fellow mercenaries in danger.
  • Dumb Is Good: Spinel is actually, by impulse, an honest and honorable person who believes in fair play, partially because she's just not imaginative enough to be a schemer. Her most villainous actions are the result of Lapis's Toxic Friend Influence.
  • Evil Counterpart:
    • To Kotaro. Both are leaders in name only of their respective factions. Kotaro simply acts as the task force's Mission Control and computer expert even though he is also seen engaging on the front lines. Spinel leads a band of demonic mercenaries, but due to her immaturity, Lapis often acts as her supervisor.
    • To Yukikaze. Both are short-tempered and impulsive youngsters who is paired with an Older and Wiser partner, Lapis and Rinko, respectively.
  • Hypocrisy Nod: Sora and Sakuya read her the riot act about trying to solidify her position as leader by killing them in a fair fight, only to sacrifice many of her mercenaries to soften them up, and engage in a lot of sneaky plotting to put them in a bad position first. Spinel is clearly affected by their claims, but Lapis steps in to short-circuit her attempts at thinking for herself.
  • Last Episode, New Character: Appears at the end of the Nomad Arc of the Main Quest after the Taimanins defeated Edwin Black. She would end up becoming a support character, and eventually Promoted to Playable.
  • Mistreatment-Induced Betrayal: The reason she usurped her former boss was because he regularly mistreated her and anyone of low ranks in their company.
  • The Napoleon: Spinel is the leader of a band of demon mercenaries in-name only. Due to her bratty and short-tempered personality, Lapis is the only one who has to keep her in check.
  • Outside-Context Problem: She and Lapis are completely unrelated to Nomad and are operating independently from them. They are only after Sora and Sakuya for their run-in with their old boss.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Spinel is noted to not be much bigger than a human teen (and of similar size to Sora), but she wields a greatsword effortlessly and send human thugs flying with extreme ease. During the event introducing her, she complains that the miniature Tempests break too easily.
  • Post-Final Boss: Spinel and Lapis are fought in the aftermath of the Task Force's battle with Edwin Black.
  • Punch-Clock Villain:
    • During her Supporter Intimacy event, she notes that as it's her day off and she hasn't been hired to kill Kotaro, she has zero interest in fighting him and the two spend an afternoon together with Kotaro acting as her guide in a human mall. Subverted when Kotaro tries to take advantage of this to make her stop going after Sora and Spinel makes it clear that while any animosty she'd feel towards Kotaro would only be part of the job, It's Personal with Sora.
    • The Halloween event introducing her has her meet Shiranui, Eleonor, and an european taimanin-esque agent. Spinel is extremely friendly with them, since it is stated to take place before the events of chapter 20, and Spinel actually helps them defend a village from human thugs.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The Red to her underling Lapis's Blue. Spinel is short-tempered, exciteable and impulsive, while Lapis is collected, calm and thinks things through. The two are also actual Onis and wearing the appropriate colours. Visually, Spinel also shares many elements with the Trope Namer, Zenki.
  • Rock Theme Naming: Like Lapis, her name comes from the namesake gemstone. Her skill set also are likewise gemstone-themed.
  • Unwitting Pawn: While her reasons for wanting to take Sora down are genuine, it's made clear that her anger at her is being manipulated to give the Task Force's enemies a powerful asset to throw at them.
  • Villains Out Shopping:
    • In an almost literal sense; during her Supporter Intimacy scene, Kotaro stumbles upon her on her day off in a shopping mall. She's not there to buy things, but simply hanging around and exploring the human world.
    • In the "Concerto of Red and Crimson" event, Spinel goes off on another day off and stumbles into Kurenai's team by a chance when she gets roped into an ensuing jewelry store robbery.
  • Walking Spoiler: It's difficult to discuss the circumstances regarding Sora and Sakuya's run-in with the demon mercenaries that led to Spinel's mercs attacking the UFS conference in Chapter 20 without also discussing events in several previous character events and story chapters, or the fact that they, rather than the VIP they're guarding, are the true targets of the attack.

Lapis (unmarked spoilers for Chapter 20)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lapis_78.png
The Strategist
"Lapis is here to command. I will make you victorious!"
Voiced by: Yurina Amami
Playable character

Lapis is Spinel's second-in-command of a demon mercenary unit from the demon realm. They both appear to go after Sora Kannazuki. Despite her mature demeanor and polite way of speaking, her power and the weapon she wields are nothing alike.

Originally a low-rank mercenary, she apparently tried to take down the former leader of the unit who ruled their kin with an iron fist. However, because said former leader was killed in battle by Sora, they failed at a proper "crowning".

Though they claim why they after Sora to get revenge on their former leader, the truth of the story is more complicated than it looks.

    Chapter 21 bosses (Spoilers)

"Yukikaze Mizuki" & "Murasaki Yatsu"

Clone Yukikaze voiced by: Yui Kanabe
Clone Murasaki voiced by: Nami Nakano

Clones of the Lightning Taimanin and the Undying who attacked the UFS underground base following the downfall of Nomad.

  • Knight of Cerebus: With Momochi and Edwin Black out of the picture, the appearance of the two clones would shift the tone of the Main Quest's new story arc to a dramatic turn.
  • Walking Spoiler: It's hard to discuss what they are after, other than the simple fact that they are impostors, as well as the whereabouts of the real Yukikaze and Murasaki during the events of Chapters 20 and 21.
