The Multiverse

    The Multiverse
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_cosmic_imagiation.jpg

The sentient totality of all universes across existence.

  • All There in the Manual: It is only briefly alluded as sentient during the series itself by Finn, who "prays" to it during the events of The Comet, but its nature and mechanics are only explained by the spin-off book "The Enchiridion"
  • Dream Land: "The Sleepers" are capable of dreaming entire universes into existence. The Enchiridion itself implies The Multiverse is just a dream of a mysterious entity known as "The Reader".
  • Gods Need Prayer Badly: Well, perception in this case. Basically, the Multiverse is a reality formed by the collective consciousness of all living things in existence, and if there is no one left to observe it, it simply ceases to exist. Played with, as the Enchiridion states the Multiverse can potentially return to existence, in some "new, unknown way", even after ceasing to be in its entirety.
''The Multiverse is a consensus reality shared by the Minds of all sentient beings. If they were to die, the Multiverse, as such, would suddenly blink out of existence, vanish, be no more."
  • The Multiverse: There's multiple timelines and worlds featuring different versions of the characters found in Ooo from the main timeline.
  • Our Gods Are Different: It is literally an infinite, self-aware and self-born collection of universes and dimensions.
  • Power Source: It is the source of all Magic across all of existence, as Mages can use their minds to alter reality by tapping into The Multiverse's powers, achieving the capability of using Magic.
  • Sentient Cosmic Force: A sentient multiverse.

Fionna World

Mundane World

    In General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_2398.png
An average, modern Earth populated by human versions of characters from the Fanfic universe.
  • Adaptational Mundanity: Rather than fantasy creatures and magic, the world is a 1-1 recreation of 21st-century Earth. Nonhuman or humanoid characters from the fanfic universe have been turned into humans here.
  • Adapted Out: Some characters don't have human or animal counterparts: BMO cameos as a nonsapient alarm clock, and many of the less important Candy Kingdom citizens only appear as part of Gary's edible candymenschen project.
  • Alternate Universe: Notable in that it's an alternate take on Fionna and Cake's universe rather than the original, where the characters are normal humans and animals in a present-day setting, similar to a Modern AU Fic. This is because, due to being placed in Ice King's mind, Fionna and Cake's version of Ooo was stripped of its fantastical elements when Ice King was stripped of his magic and madness and returned to being Simon Petrikov.
  • Fisher King: Since the world exists inside of Simon's mind, it changes based on his mental state. Every TV channel plays nothing but Cheers reruns, and likewise the opening and closing theme to Cheers are the only songs that Fionna and Cake know aside from Simon and Betty's love song. Gary also comments about the city looking more Gothic than normal while Simon is in Vampire World, and the clouds become shaped like Tetris blocks while Simon confronted GOLBetty. Presumably this is no longer the case after GOLBetty removed the world from Simon's head in the finale.
  • The Magic Goes Away: The world used to be as magical as the fanfics portrayed it, but due to being hidden in Simon's mind, it lost its magic when Simon lost his. Once it's canonized and independent from Simon's mind, it gets to have some supernatural elements that migrated from other worlds Fionna and Cake went to, but it doesn't regain its magic.
  • Urban Fantasy: What the world is eventually canonized as. The world itself is still a mundane Earth without magic, but the supernatural elements from other worlds that have migrated there retain their supernatural nature.

    Fionna Campbell
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fionna_campbell_29.png
"I'm not really feeling like myself today..."
Click here to see her with magic
Voiced by: Madeleine Martin

An immature and somewhat self-centered 29-year-old woman living in a mundane world with her pet cat Cake. Feeling stuck in empty and monotanous life, she dreams of becoming a great adventurer.

  • Accidental Murder: During the events of "The Winter King" when Fionna kisses the titular character, she ends up somehow draining the magic crown he was using of its magic as he starts losing his magic and goes through Rapid Aging before turning to dust and dying. While it was unintentional, The Winter King was actually a Bitch in Sheep's Clothing who transferred his madness over to that universe's version of Princess Bubblegum for a century.
  • Adaptational Curves: Downplayed; Fionna was already curvy to begin with in Adventure Time, but this show depicts her as noticeably more chubby, with thicker arms and legs, likely to make her look more her age.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Marshall Lee and Cake refers to her as "Fi" in "Fionna Campbell" and "Cheers" respectively.
  • Age Lift: Downplayed. This Fionna is much older than her fanfic counterpart. However, like the fanfic version, she is still only a little older relative to Finn, who would be 29 by the events of Fionna and Cake. Being the same being as her "fanfic" self, it makes sense that she aged up as well, given the length of time that's passed by the time Fionna and Cake happens.
  • Ambiguously Bi: Besides dating the male DJ Flame, falling in love with Ice Prince in one of her dreams, and kissing the Winter King, in "The Winter King" Fionna blushes when Princess Bubblegum touches her shoulder and kisses her on the cheek. This could either be a hint at bisexuality with stronger heterosexual preferences or perhaps a momentary "lapse" a la Stupid Sexy Flanders.
  • Anti-Magic: Fionna possesses the ability to remove the magic from magical beings. Just like how Cake turned a Hot Dog Knight into a regular hot dog, her kiss with the Winter King destroyed the magic of the Ice Crown and the Winter King with it. It's implied that this is not only due to her being from an "unregistered" universe, but the fact that her world had its magic removed when Simon finally had his crown removed.
  • Big Beautiful Woman: She is quite attractive, being somewhat heavyset notwithstanding.
  • Blood Knight: In "The Winter King", she becomes a little too excited at the prospect of finally being able to fight and brutally slaughters every antagonistic candy citizen who crosses her path. However, she regrets her actions at the end of the episode when it is revealed that they were all innocents brainwashed by the Winter King.
  • Character Development:
    • At the start of the series, she’s a selfish, irresponsible, and depressed Womanchild who lives in the moment trying to survive in her "painfully mundane" reality, while wishing for her life to be more magical. When she gets her wish, she's thrilled to experience magical adventures she believes she deserves, but as she travels through different universes with Simon and Cake, she realizes that her fantasies are not all fun and games, especially if those realities turn out to be far worse than hers.
    • Her relationship with Simon changes a lot throughout the series. At first, she’s innocently dismissive towards his trauma as the Ice King, and just sees him as a means to restore the magic from her universe and save it from its destruction. However, in "Jerry", she starts to treat him as a real person, as she asks him about his previous life with Betty, and after seeing through tapes what he's going to sacrifice if they succeed in their goal to change him back into the Ice King (which is his sanity), Fionna feels so guilty about it that she no longer wants to go through with their plan.
  • Expy: Outside of being a female version of Finn, she is very similar in characterization to another Natasha Allegri created character: Bee from Bee and Puppycat. Much like Bee, Fionna is an eccentric womanchild who has worked multiple jobs and failed to hold down all of them, and lives alone with her pet cat in an apartment. She also has a close male friend, Gary, who is a baker, which mirrors Bee's relationship with Deckard.
  • Failure Heroine: Her time in her mundane world didn’t do any favor to her prowess, as she gets easily overpowered by enemies from other timelines. Even the only time she “won”, it's revealed that she was attacking innocent candy people, cursed with the madness of the Ice Crown by the Winter King.
  • Flipping the Bird: She gives the British version of it to her boss after being fired (two fingers while showing off the back of the hand).
  • Foil:
    • To Simon. Simon is very obviously depressed, and while Fionna is generally more upbeat her theme song in the first episode has lyrics that make it clear she's hiding a similar sense of longing for whimsy, depression and disassociation. The two wandering around dealing with their worlds in similar ways while having mindsets set in a 20th-century "normalcy" adds a further connection between the two.
    • Also, to Betty, who while generally the smarter of the two comparatively, made many risky spur-of-the-moment decisions that (while helpful in saving him) left Simon with no choice but to be a traumatized, depressed wreck in the long run, after she removed herself and Golb from Ooo. In contrast, Fionna is the one who starts the healing process for Simon.
  • George Jetson Job Security: She's held multiple jobs and is unable to keep any of them. Her most recent job was being a tourist guide on a bus, which she gets fired from in the first episode of the spinoff.
  • Hartman Hips: Still has noticeably large hips, as part of her Adaptational Curves in the spinoff. Best shown in her Defiant Strip in the first episode to her boss Queenie.
  • Hates Wearing Dresses: She has a much more tomboyish style than the original Fionna and ends up tripping because of the skirt Prismo gives her since she's never worn one before. Prismo swaps it out for shorts to help her out.
  • How the Mighty Have Fallen: Before her world lost its magic, she was a great adventurer with friends and romance. However, after their world got Depowered, she is now a shell of her former self, a young woman jumping between multiple dead-end jobs who only can dream of having a more interesting and magical life.
  • I Just Want to Be Special: She yearns for a magical life full of adventure in a fantasy world. She starts her quest for the Ice Crown with Simon because her world will become magical if Simon turns back into the Ice King. At the end, she gives up her dreams for fantasy and learns to appreciate her mundane life as it is.
  • Intergenerational Friendship: She forms a close friendship with Simon. He's physically a middle-aged man, not counting the centuries he spent as the Ice King, and Fionna is in her late twenties.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Although, she can be pretty selfish and short-tempered due to how jaded her soul-crushingly mundane existence has made her, it's clear she loves her friends (specially Cake) and would move mountains for them since if anything makes her life livable it's them. She also grows to appreciate her "boring" universe, and fights to protect it, becoming a genuine heroine in the process.
  • Kiss of Death: When she kisses the Winter King, she drains him and his crown of magic, resulting in the Winter King's almost instant death because of the loss of his immortality.
  • Ms. Fanservice: In her first appearance, Fionna takes off her pants revealing her panties. Later on, she takes off her shirt and spends a good chunk of the 2nd half of the miniseries in just her shorts and sports bra.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: After slaughtering all of the Candy Queen's subjects to save the Winter King and accidentally killing him too, Fionna learns that the Candy Queen and her subjects were victims of the Winter King transferring his madness to Princess Bubblegum for a century. When she is called a hero by Bubblegum, Fionna states she was no hero and realizes she killed them without thinking about the situation and may have just made things worse for that universe before Simon cheers her up.
  • The Not-Love Interest: To Simon. Fionna brings out Simon's confidence and self-esteem while giving him the freedom to choose, and despite being more impulsive has his well-being in mind before making huge decisions that will affect him. Simon in turn causes her to think more deeply and be much more considerate. While Fionna did feel attracted to the Winter King, who is the Simon of another timeline, her relationship with the actual Simon stays platonic, mainly due to the big age difference and Simon's true love still being Betty.
  • One of the Boys: She has a tomboyish personality and all of her close friends (with the sole exception of Cake) are male.
  • Production Throwback: She begins her story as a struggling and somewhat childish young adult who eventually becomes a hero in another dimension alongside her cat, mirroring the development of Bee in Bee and Puppycat, another series developed by Fionna's creator Natasha Allegri.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The Blue Oni to Cake's Red Oni. As she realizes the dangers of their journey, Fionna becomes for cautious and thoughtful, often trying to stop Cake from being too reckless.
  • The Reveal: Despite seeming to be an alternative version of the original Fionna, "Prismo The Wishmaster" reveals that she's actually the same being. Prismo created Fionna's universe because he wanted to make something for himself for once and hid the "unauthorized" existence within Ice King's shattered mind, resulting in his fan fictions of their adventures. When Ice King was transformed back into Simon, it accidentally drained the magic out of their universe as well, resulting in Fionna's world becoming mundane and boring, and the inhabitants losing all memories of their fantastical lives.
  • Seriously Scruffy: Her home is messy and she puts on old clothes when she goes to work, matching her stressful day-to-day life.
  • Ship Sinking:
    • The opening sequence reveals that she dated DJ Flame until he dumped her via text message. In the series finale, DJ Flame is shown holding hands with a female version of Fern, further indicating that he and Fionna will likely not get back together.
    • Happens with Gumball/Gary and Marshall Lee as well. While she had Ship Tease with both in Adventure Time, episode 6 of the Fionna and Cake miniseries establishes that the two are developing feelings for each other. By the series finale, the two are shown to be officially dating, and she is overjoyed when she finds out about it.
  • Shipper on Deck: When she finally reunites with Marshall Lee and Gary in the mundane world, she is overjoyed to see them holding hands and asks about it, clearly supportive of their relationship development.
  • Significant Wardrobe Shift: First, Prismo helps her out by replacing her skirt with shorts, noting the disrepency between how he envisioned her. After her first night in Farmworld, she wakes up to find Cake brought her a mouse and the blood has stained the blue shirt Prismo gave her, so she discards it soon after, along with the thigh-high socks and the shoes, and replaces them with heavy boots and a pauldron, showing she's starting to change from the carbon copy of Finn she was originally envisioned as. Later in "The Star", she also takes Martin's jacket after he ends up being killed by that world's version of Marceline saving her.
  • Stupid Sexy Flanders: In relation to Ambiguously Bi above, Fionna's flustered reaction to Princess Bubblegum in "The Winter King" may well be this.
  • Touch of Death: Either due to a combination of her universe being "unauthorized" or her being subjected to an accidental Depower alongside Simon when the crown was drained of its magic has resulted in her and Cake both gaining this sporadically, resulting in individuals or objects they're holding getting subjected to an Ominous Visual Glitch and turned into a mundane, non-magical object. The biggest instance for Fionna is her accidentally draining the Winter King's crown of magic, resulting in him turning into dust.
  • Trash of the Titans: Her apartment is filthy, so much so that when Gary stumbles into it, he assumes she's been robbed until Marshall Lee reassures him that this is just how she lives.
  • We All Die Someday: Has accepted it as of "Jerry", and no longer wants Simon to sacrifice his sanity in order to return magic to her own world.
  • Womanchild: She is a 29-year-old woman who is very immature. For instance, she literally takes her pants off after being fired from her last job just to get back at her boss. It’s implied that she lost many jobs because she refuses to take responsibility when her childlike attitude works against her. She also dreams of living magical, fantasy adventures in her boring, mundane life, not unlike a typical isekai child heroine. It's actually residual memories of her time adventuring with Cake when their universe was still magical before Simon's Depower wound up draining the magic out of their world as well. She even has a list of her favorite fantasies such as having a talking cat, visiting a candy kingdom, and becoming a giant woman.

Click here to see her with magic

Voiced by: Roz Ryan, Phil LaMarr (translator, "Dog" voice and "Nightmare" voice), Pendleton Ward (translator, "Old Man" voice and "Nerdy Alien" voice)

An ordinary cat living in a mundane world with her owner Fionna.

  • Adaptational Jerkass: She's noticeably more callous in this series. She never quite reaches Cats Are Mean level, but is often quite Innocently Insensitive and doesn't always have the best sense of what behavior is acceptable. Justified as she became a regular housecat after magic was drained from her universe and thus never had to learn manners. Later on, she has zero compunctions about handing the crown to Simon to allow magic back to her own universe, even if she knows it will turn him into the deranged Cloud Cuckoolander that is the Ice King, as long as she gets to remain as she currently is, and even butts heads with Fionna about it.
  • Animal Jingoism: Averted, as Cake doesn't seem to have any problems with dogs. She gets along famously with Farmworld Jake, even sneaking him food under the table, and enjoys hearing BMO's stories about her canine counterpart. She does somewhat dismissively refer to Prismo as a "dog person", though.
  • Anthropomorphic Transformation: She goes from a realistically-proportioned cat to a Funny Animal with a bipedal and egg-shaped body, courtesy of Prismo fixing her being "off-model".
  • Anti-Magic: Her touch, like Fionna's, seems to sponge out the magic of entities. Her batting at a hot dog knight in episode three turned it into a regular, lifeless hot dog despite her doing nothing but touching him.
  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Early on, Cake is shown to have a bit of a short attention span and is easily distracted. Justified in that she's a cat.
  • Bully Hunter: Even while on her own in the land of Ooo, before she gets her stretchy powers, Cake ends up helping the Squirrel against the other tree residents for no other reason than because she can't stand bullies.
  • Furry Reminder: Even when fully restored to her former self, she still retains some of the behaviors of a typical house cat. Such as leaving a dead rat on Fionna's chest to give her something to eat or referring to chocolate being dangerous for her to eat (Though it’s done in a Black Comedy Suicide manner).
  • How Do I Shot Web?: Cake is much worse at using her stretchy powers compared to Jake, as all her memories have been wiped and she only got said powers back recently thanks to Prismo. Her shapeshifting tends to be visibly distorted & less coherent, not to mention her lack of control and creativity when using them. Her general inexperience often lands her in trouble that would otherwise be a cakewalk for Jake. However, she gets much better control over her stretchy powers after a few adventures and becomes a force to be reckoned with.
  • Limb-Sensation Fascination: After getting anthropomorphized, she's quite enthusiastic to use her new hands to do things she's seen humans do, like operate a remote or play games on Fionna's phone.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The impulsive, hot-tempered Red Oni to Fionna's more thoughtful, sensitive Blue Oni.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Several times over during the miniseries. In the first episode she's a normal housecat, in the third episode she's upgraded to Talking Animal, in the fourth episode she gains her stretchy powers but has problems controlling them, by the seventh episode she's skilled and strong enough to effortlessly beat three vampires on her own, and by the tenth episode she goes toe-to-toe with Scarab and gives him some serious trouble.
  • Touch of Death: Gains this alongside Fionna due to a combination of their universe being "unauthorized" or her being subjected to an accidental Depower alongside Simon when the crown was drained of its magic. Two of Cake's instances have her accidentally turn one of the hot dog knights into a non-sentient hot dog and the remains of Extinct World BMO into a radio clock.
  • Translator Collar: Simon puts one on Cake to allow her to talk. The collar also has numerous settings for different animal species, although all it does is change the sound of the voice coming out.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: She is notably less skilled with her stretching powers due to them being a recent gift from Prismo after being a normal cat her whole life in the mundane world. She still packs a mean punch, but she struggles with shapeshifting quickly and in some instances appears to get stuck in a form.
  • Uplifted Animal: Inverted after her universe lost its magic, then reverted when Prismo changes her back to her original form in "Prismo the Wishmaster".

    Gary Prince
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gary_prince_render.png

Voiced by: Andrew Rannells

A barista and pastry chef working in Butterscotch Butler’s bakery. He plans to open his own pastry shop.

  • Adaptational Relationship Overhaul: Gumball's relationship with Marshall Lee is antagonistic in Adventure Time, with Gumball vaguely listing Marshall Lee as one of his "regrets," implying that the two were once friends (or more) but had that friendship ended poorly. However, in this series, the two do not meet in the mundane universe until "The Winter King", where they almost immediately hit it off and begin to develop feelings for each other. Given that they're supposed to be the same characters as in Adventure Time, it's unclear if this is meant to mirror how their relationship began in the previous setting before things between them went sour.
  • Adaptational Name Change: To better fit into the mundane setting, his name was changed from "Bubba Gumball" to "Gary Prince."
  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: His relationship with Marshall notwithstanding, when the Scarab pulls himself together and is ready to rain oblivion on Mundane World, Gary reacts with a muttered "Oh no, he's hot!" Seems Gary has a thing for 'bad boys'.
  • Amazing Technicolor Population: Despite being Prince Gumball's human counterpart, his skin is still pink. His pink hair, on the other hand, has been dyed.
  • Ambiguously Bi: Mostly due to limited screen time. While it is known that he is achillean/mlm due to his relationship with Marshall Lee, if he is also into women like his Distaff Counterpart, Princess Bubblegum, is unknown as he never mentions any past girlfriends, doesn’t show any interest in women, and only seems to be Platonic Life-Partners with Fionna as well as showing no interest in a Relationship Upgrade to an Official Couple.
  • Ambiguously Gay: While his Distaff Counterpart is interested in both men and women, it is unknown if he is interested in women as well or if he is only interested in men due to Adaptational Sexuality.
  • First-Name Basis: In contrast to Prince Gumball, who is always referred to as "Gumball" rather than his first name "Bubba," Gary is always referred to as "Gary" by Fionna.
  • Masculine–Feminine Gay Couple: With Marshall, similar to their female counterparts. Gary is a pink-haired pastry chef who is neat and organized, while Marshall is a musician with a punk style and a less tidy behavior.
  • Meet Cute: Downplayed; In the mundane universe, he and Marshall Lee hadn't met until "The Winter King", when Gary goes to Fionna's apartment to pick her up for their shopping trip and runs into Marshall Lee instead, who had been using her shower. Gary is surprised to find a "random dude" in Fionna's apartment while she is away, but she reassures him that he is a friend, and Marshall Lee decides to accompany him on his shopping trip in her place. The shopping trip plays out like a date, with the two developing feelings for each other.
  • Mr. Imagination: He combines his pastries with creativity by making his food into characters with detailed descriptions and backstories. This is his latent memories of the candy citizens surfacing.
  • Official Couple: He starts dating Marshall at the end of "The Star".
  • The Perfectionist: He has a problem with perfectionism. It's slightly shown when he's annoyed with Fionna eating one of his candymenschen before he gives it the finishing touches despite having a positive reaction to it, but he himself explains that this is why he's thankful Marshall jumped the gun on calling the Lemoncarbs over, since if he didn't he'd keep trying to refine the candymenschen project forever before letting any investors see it.
  • Platonic Life-Partners: Possibly with Fionna, as he claims to have known her for a long time and the two appear to be close, despite the fact that they have no romantic implications between them, unlike their fanfic counterparts.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: Downplayed compared to Prince Gumball, but he has dyed pink hair, pink skin, and works as a barista and pastry chef in Butterscotch Butler's bakery.
  • Ripple-Effect-Proof Memory: He has some limited memory of his former candy citizens and he's incorporated them as characters in his "candymenschen" baking project.
  • Rose-Haired Sweetie: Male example. He's a Sweet Baker with pink hair.
  • Screw the Money, I Have Rules!: On the good side, Hana's blood drive lets him meet rich investors who could get his bakery off the ground. On the bad side? Hana shows herself to be a very poor mother to Marshall, which prompts Gary to call her out and leave with Marshall instead of letting him put up with any more of her insults.
  • Ship Tease: With Marshall Lee in "The Winter King". Marshall Lee flirts with him on their first meeting, and the rest of the episode that is focused on them is spent on a romantically-framed shopping "date" in which the flirting continues. The two become an Official Couple by the end of the series finale.
  • Sweet Baker: He's a nice and friendly pastry chef with the dream of opening his own bakery.

    Marshall Lee
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/human_marshall_lee.png

Voiced by: Donald Glover

Marshall Lee's human counterpart and the self-proclaimed "world's best unknown musician."

  • Adaptational Relationship Overhaul: Gumball's relationship with Marshall Lee is antagonistic in Adventure Time, with Gumball vaguely listing Marshall Lee as one of his "regrets," implying that the two were once friends (or more) but had that friendship end poorly. However, in this series, the two do not meet in the mundane universe until "The Winter King", where they almost immediately hit it off and begin to develop feelings for each other. Marshall Lee is also nicer to Gary here, not making fun of him the way he did in the previous setting, and reassuring him whenever Gary begins to feel insecure during their interactions. Given that they're supposed to be the same characters as in Adventure Time, it's unclear if this is meant to mirror how their relationship began in the previous setting before things between them went sour.
  • Ambiguously Bi: Mostly due to limited screen time. While it is known that he is achillean/mlm due to his relationship with Gary Prince, if he is also into women like his Distaff Counterpart, Marceline the Vampire Queen, is unknown as he never mentions any past girlfriends, doesn’t show any interest in women, and only seems to be Platonic Life-Partners with Fionna as well as showing no interest in a Relationship Upgrade to an Official Couple.
  • Ambiguously Gay: While his Distaff Counterpart is interested in both men and women, it is unknown if he is interested in women as well or if he is only interested in men due to Adaptational Sexuality.
  • Masculine–Feminine Gay Couple: With Gary, similar to their female counterparts. Marshall is a musician with a punk style and a less tidy behavior, while Gary is a pink-haired pastry chef who is neat and organized.
  • Meet Cute: Downplayed; In the mundane universe, he and Gary/Gumball hadn't met until "The Winter King", when Gary goes to Fionna's apartment to pick her up for their shopping trip and runs into Marshall Lee, who had been using her shower instead. Gary is surprised to find a "random dude" in Fionna's apartment while she is away, but she reassures him that he is a friend, and Marshall Lee decides to accompany him on his shopping trip in her place. The shopping trip plays out like a date, with the two developing feelings for each other.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero:
    • In "The Winter King", he invites the Lemoncarbs over to taste test Gary's baked goods so that he can pitch his bakery idea to them in the hopes that they will invest, not realizing that Gary wasn't actually ready to meet them just yet. When he tries to cancel, it's too late, and the meeting is a disaster, leaving Gary disheartened by the Lemoncarb's rejection. However, he does apologize for scheduling the meeting without Gary's knowledge and comforts him by listening to the stories behind his pastry creations.
    • It should be noted that while he was disheartened by the rejection, Gary also acknowledges that his perfectionist tendencies means if the meeting hadn't happened, he would've still been working on his recipes until they were "perfect".
  • Official Couple: He starts dating Gary at the end of "The Star".
  • Parental Neglect: He's on semi-non-speaking terms with his mother, and flatly refuses to call her on Fionna's behalf to inform her that the rent for the month will be late. However, it is implied in "The Winter King" that he reluctantly called in a favor with his mother to schedule a meeting between the Lemoncarb twins and Gary.
  • Platonic Life-Partners: In the mundane universe, he is close friends with Fionna, but their relationship lacks the romantic overtones that they had in his previous Adventure Time appearances.
  • Ship Tease: With Gary Prince in "The Winter King". Marshall Lee flirts with him on their first meeting, and the rest of the episode that is focused on them is spent on a romantically-framed shopping "date" in which the flirting continues. The two become an Official Couple by the end of the series finale.
  • Through His Stomach: He loves Gary's pastries and starts hanging out with him to eat more of his sweets.
  • You Don't Look Like You: He is the human counterpart of Vampire King Marshall Lee, but he resembles him little due to his dark skin, medium-length dreadlocks, and a neck mole in place of a vampire bite, as opposed to vampire Marshall's light blue skin and short wavy hair. He also has a darker complexion than his female counterpart's human mother, who is Ambiguously Brown, implying that his appearance and ethnicity were influenced by his African-American voice actor Donald Glover.

    DJ Flame
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dj_flame.png

Voiced by: N/A

The mundane universe equivalent of Flame Prince. He is also Fionna's ex-boyfriend.

  • Adaptational Jerkass: While he seemed like a decent guy in his original fanfic appearances, DJ Flame breaks up with Fionna via a two-word text message in the opening sequence.
  • Ambiguously Brown: His human appearance has a somewhat darker complexion compared to Fionna.
  • Official Couple: While it's never outright confirmed in the show proper, he's shown holding hands with a female version of Fern in the series finale, suggesting that they're now dating.
  • Out of Focus: Compared to several other returning characters, DJ Flame was only relegated to a few cameos in the miniseries and was never given a speaking role.

    Beatrice Buttler
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_2379_5.png
Voiced by: Elle Newlands

The human counterpart of Butterscotch Butler. She is the crotchety owner of Butler’s Buttery Buns, the bakery where Gary Prince works.

  • Adaptational Relationship Overhaul: She is subservient to Prince Gumball in the fanfic universe. However, in the mundane setting, she is his crotchety boss.
  • Appeal to Tradition: She refuses to allow Gary to sell his own baked goods because she believes her traditional buttery buns are superior without even trying his work. She also allows mice to roam around her bakery because it is supposedly customary.
  • Mean Boss: To prove that her traditional buttery buns are superior to Gary's pastries, rather than tasting it, she drops one on the floor and lets a mouse decide which one it prefers. She also repeatedly pokes Gary in the torso to emphasize her point about "traditional" being better.
  • The Napoleon: She wears platform heels to make herself appear taller than she actually is and has quite the attitude, especially toward Gary Prince.

    Hunter
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hunter_render.png
Voiced by: Vico Ortiz

A human Spear Counterpart of Huntress Wizard.

  • Canon Immigrant: The genderbent Huntress Wizard had yet to be introduced in the fanfic world before Hunter appeared. However, we do get a glimpse as to what he looked like in "Casper & Nova."
  • Caring Gardener: He grows a hidden garden at the city's park. He considers all plants to be herbs and sweet outcasts. His ideology towards this is later shared by Fionna since their universe was unauthorized but deserved to still exist. By the end of the miniseries, Hunter and Fionna appear to now work as gardeners together.
  • Gratuitous Spanish: In "Cheers", he says "que linda"note  when he gets one of the dandelion petals.
  • Hartman Hips: In a rare male example, despite his hunky build, he's got quite the pronounced posterior.
  • Heroic Build: Unlike the lithe frame of his female counterpart, he has a muscular stocky build. Complementing that is his benevolent personality.
  • Maybe Ever After: At the end of the miniseries, Hunter and Fionna's relationship has hints of romance after Fionna goes through her Character Development. The last scene shows they begin working as gardeners together.
  • Mistaken Identity: Fionna mistakes him for Ellis in their first meeting.
  • Nice Guy: Hunter is very charming and friendly.
  • Vocal Dissonance: In contrast to his overall hunkish looks and build, he has a rather high-pitched feminine voice that's more befitting of a tomboyish girl or even a young boy.

    Ellis P.
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_2380.png
Voiced by: Pendleton Ward

The human counterpart of Lumpy Space Prince. A self-proclaimed animal miracle worker who is friends with Marshall.

  • Animal Lover: He loves animals of all kinds.
  • Berserk Button: Seeing animals abused or imprisoned really makes him angry.
  • Gut Feeling: He's a big fan of relying on his "instincts" instead of actually thinking things through, even advising Fionna to go with her gut more... but the problem is that his Gut Feeling is neither as accurate nor as reliable as he himself thinks.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Like his counterpart, he's obnoxious and full of himself, but isn't a bad guy. He's a genuine Nature Lover and by all accounts a good friend to Marshall. He truly wants to help out, even if his help tends to either not be much use or even make things worse.
  • Know-Nothing Know-It-All: Claims to be able to read animals better than any vet, even when most of his professionalism is evidently bunk.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Ellis' love of animals causes him to break free the captured Scarab pieces after everyone leaves Fionna's apartment, resulting in the Scarab fully reforming and destroying Fionna's apartment. Ellis P. however manages to survive and escape before the explosion.
  • Punny Name: Try saying his name slowly.
  • Satellite Character: Most of his onscreen appearances revolve around his and Marshall's friendship as well as him accidentally freeing the Scarab.
  • Truer to the Text: He's closer in personality to Lumpy Space Princess than her own interpretation of Lumpy Space Prince, matching up with Ice King's initial version of him.

    Lemoncarb Twins
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_2381.png
Voiced by: Jinkx Monsoon and Cree Summer

The human counterparts of the Lady Lemongrabs. They are a pair of wealthy sisters known for running a food empire and making businesses flourish with their investments.

  • Adaptation Species Change: Their equivalent to Lemon Camel is a yellow dog with a similarly droopy face.
  • Hiding Behind Your Bangs: The Lemoncarb in white wears her hair covering half of her face and one eye, the same side of the head that was bitten off of Lemongrab 2.
  • Identical Twin ID Tag: While identical twins, their hairstyles are different and their outfits are of different colors.
  • Jabba Table Manners: They messily eat away at Gary's pastry mansion, considering its taste okay, but disliking the cute figures.
  • Jerkass: They demean Gary's pastrymenschen at almost every step of his interview with them and vandalize the doorway as they leave.
  • Perpetual Frowner: Both always look angry and grumpy.
  • Rich Bitch: They're stated to be rich and both are short-tempered, mean, and impossible to please.
  • Single-Minded Twins: They have the same obnoxious personality and behavioral patterns.
  • Truer to the Text: The Lemoncarbs match their original counterparts closer than their fanfic selves. The two are portrayed as sisters rather than an unrelated couple, and unlike the Lady Lemongrabs' more flamboyant style, they wear plain shirts and yoga pants resembling the earls' jumpsuits.

    Hana Abadeer
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_2382.png
Voiced by: Erica Luttrell

A human Distaff Counterpart of Hunson Abadeer, and Marshall's estranged mother.

  • Abusive Parents: She passively-aggressively insults Marshall to his face multiple times, in the middle of a social gathering of the city's biggest names. Gary has none of it and outright calls her a bad mother for it.
  • Canon Immigrant: The genderbent Hunson Abadeer had yet to be introduced in the fanfic world before Hana's appearance, although what she originally looked like is never shown.
  • Deal with the Devil: Marshall turns out to have made a deal with her where the Lemoncarb Twins would conduct an interview with Gary to try and obtain an investment deal from them in exchange for Marshall returning home and joining the family business.
  • Evil Counterpart: Played with regarding her Ooo counterpart, in that she's less "evil" than him, but an overall worse person. While Hunson Abadeer is a Card-Carrying Villain who rules the Nightosphere and devours souls, he acts mainly on Blue-and-Orange Morality, and genuinely loves and is proud of Marceline, any abuse of her coming more from ignorance than malice. Hana Abadeer meanwhile passive aggressively insults Marshall Lee while disapproving of his life choices, overcharges her tenants to the point they can't even afford to live in her apartment complexes, and lacks any form of Blue-and-Orange Morality. So while Hunson's actions are more traditionally evil compared to Hana's, the former at least has a justification for his behavior and loves and accepts his daughter, while the latter has no known justification for her actions and treats her son as if he were a possession.
  • Hate Sink: Related to Evil Counterpart above, with Hunson, he is at least Laughably Evil at worst with a lot of his abuse coming from Blue-and-Orange Morality or ignorance. Hana, however, is a genuinely abusive parent that passive-aggressively insults her son and overall bad person who overcharges her tenants to the point where they can't afford their rent, who lacks Hunson's Blue-and-Orange Morality that keeps him at least a slightly redeemable person.
  • Karma Houdini: With the end of season one heavily implying that Hana overcharges many of the tenants of the apartment complex she owns like Fionna and many of them forming a mob with picket signs outside her building alongside Marshall Lee, she just decides to ignore it while drinking wine.
  • Mythology Gag: Wears a brooch resembling the head of Hunson's One-Winged Angel form.
  • Villainous Cheekbones: Sports these similar to Hunson.

Fanfic World

    In General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_2399.png
A Gender-Bent Alternate Universe to Ooo, explained through fanfics made by Ice King. Occasionally, other characters will join in to show what they think their counterpart would act like. While the cast is flipped, most are not the exact same as their original in backstory or even species.
  • All There in the Manual: The show rarely focuses on them and most of the time it's generally A Day in the Limelight (the first episode focusing on Fionna and Cake, the second Marshall Lee, the third on Lumpy Space Prince and the fourth spreading attention across some of the supporting cast), leaving it to the comics to generally explain more about the characters (which are canon as Natasha Allegri was the one who came up with a good chunk of concepts for the characters and wrote the comics herself).
  • Alternate Universe:
    • A rather strange case of this as they're creations of a fanfiction the Ice King made. Yet the show treats them like this anyway.
    • Although the ending of "Fionna and Cake and Fionna" suggests that Ice King's stories might be based on signals he receives from another universe (presumably as another side-effect of his crown). The Fionna and Cake Miniseries reveals that the "signal" was Prismo hiding the Fionna and Cake AU in Ice King's head, having been the one who actually created the universe.
  • Breakout Character: All of them! Originally, their existence was used as a one-shot Take That! at gender-bent fanfictions. However, this universe became so popular that it got some sequel episodes. When the first episode aired, then-writer and later showrunner Adam Muto resisted the idea of Fionna and Cake being just Fanfiction as it would box them in to a one-note joke about Ice King's obsession with Finn and Jake. Eventually, a series about this universe was greenlit, which finally revealed their true origins.
  • Cosmic Retcon: Technically, this whole world as it originally was, was subjected to this and reformatted into Mundane World as a result of the Synchronisation between it and the hiding place of Ice King's mind it existed in, resulting in it also getting affected by the Depower that permanently reverted him into Simon. As a result, none of the original inhabitants are aware of their past magical existences, beyond Fiona's subconscious dreams and fantasies about magical worlds and adventures, and it needs Prismo's outside perspective for them to be aware of what their lives were originally like.
  • Depending on the Writer: In-universe example, as the universe is a fanfic, various characters (Ice King, Marceline, LSP, Gunther) take their turns telling their own interpretations of the Fionna world characters so they sometimes have different personalities and motives.
  • Gender-Bent Alternate Universe: A good majority of the characters in this universe are the same as the original Ooo, but with a flip of their genders. Though backstories and motivations are different from their prime counterparts.
  • Lighter and Softer: As pointed out by the Scarab, Fiona and Cake’s world is a more idealized version of Ooo. Notably while even Baby World has a Lich Fiona and Cake’s world doesn’t have a “Lichette”. Noted in-universe and justified since Prismo created the world to unwind from work stress and including the guy who killed him probably wouldn’t help with that.

    Fionna
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fionna_8037.png
"A crystal sword! I'm all about swords! How did you know?"
Voiced by: Madeleine Martin

Finn's Gender Flip counterpart who is considerably more level-headed than he is. She still manages to have a thirst for adventure, however.

  • Action Dress Rip: When she has to fight Ice Queen while wearing a ball gown. Cake hilariously mistakes this for something else.
  • Action Girl: She's shown to be a good fighter like her male counterpart, especially when battling Ice Queen.
  • Ambiguously Bi: Fionna is for the most part shown to be completely straight, as everyone she shows open attraction to is male. That said the first time she met Princess Bubblegum she was blushing the whole time.
  • Attractive Bent-Gender: She's Finn's female counterpart and is pretty and curvaceous, especially compared to Finn's more blocky figure.
  • Badass Adorable: She's cute as a button, but she knows how to put up a fight.
  • Badass Normal: She has no powers of her own and yet she regularly beats up stronger, more powerful people with nothing but her fists and sword.
  • Big Sister Instinct: Whatever you do, don't harm Cake. Fionna will deal out heavy punishments on anyone who dares.
  • Compressed Hair: Somehow manages to fit all that hair into her hat, though unlike Finn, a little bit of it shows.
  • Cute Bruiser: She makes good use of Good Old Fisticuffs whenever she's not using her sword.
  • Distaff Counterpart: To Finn. In-Universe even. When Prismo was creating her universe to create something for himself for once, he realised that the basic outline he'd drawn up (framed like it was a first-draft of a story) was basically just him copying Finn and Jake. As a result, he decided to "lean into it", and copied the land of Ooo wholesale, with some alterations to the characters as a result.
  • Expy: Outside of being a female version of Finn, she is very similar in characterization to another Natasha Allegri created character, Bee from Bee and Puppycat. This is especially true in the Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake series, where Fionna's mundane world counterpart is an eccentric womanchild who has worked multiple jobs and failed to hold down all of them, and lives alone with her pet cat in an apartment. She also has a close male friend, Gary, who is a baker, which mirrors Bee's relationship with Deckard.
  • Flat Character: Her supporting cast is a lot more fleshed out than she is. The only thing that really stands out about her is that she's a female Finn. The Fionna and Cake Spinoff on the other hand 100% fixes this problem with her, as said Fionna in the spinoff is not an alternative version of this Fionna, but the same being. Her universe was created by Prismo when he wanted to experiment with creating something for himself for once, and as a result, her universe is "unauthorised". Prismo attempted to hide it by hiding it within the Ice King's warped psyche, which resulted in Fionna's universe getting transformed into a mundane and boring one when Ice King was reverted back into the normal human Simon. Being the POV character for this universe, and having to deal with the fact she and everyone she loves is slated for termination merely for existing, puts Fionna into a lot of focus as a result.
  • Gendered Outfit: Fionna's skirt and bunny ears are a feminized version of Finn's pants and hat.
  • Genki Girl: Like Finn, she's hyperactive and energetic, when she's not beating her enemies to a pulp.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: She's heroic and innocent like her male counterpart.
  • Hartman Hips: has noticeably thick legs, likely in contrast to Finn's thinner legs.
  • Hates Baths: According to one of the official Fionna & Cake comic stories, "Cootie Power," Fionna does not like bathing and skips it whenever she can. Her preferred method for getting clean is to wait until it rains and stand in the rain for a while. Cake even comments that Fionna bathes less than she, a cat, does.
  • Idiot Hero: Not as bad as Finn, though she's more impulsive than stupid.
  • Interspecies Romance: She's a human who has Ship Tease with Gumball and Marshall Lee, who are a candy person and a vampire respectively.
  • Letting Her Hair Down: In "Bad Little Boy" and more like a hitchhiking Cake emerging from under Fionna's hood and taking it, causing her hair to come down. But given the shipping vibes of the titular song, how frustrated and bored Fionna felt with the safer Gumball, and it occurring right as Fionna's portion of the song, the effect remains the same.
  • Magic Skirt: Her skirt reveals nothing despite all the action she gets into. Justified as it's really a skort. In the Fionna and Cake miniseries, the altered Fionna has problems running in her iconic skirt, which Prismo finds odd because she never had problems with the skirt in his stories. He ends up giving her shorts instead.
  • Morality Pet: To Marshall Lee. Fionna's crying is enough for him to stop messing with the poor girl's head after faking his death just to make her confess that she has feelings for him. This doesn't stop her from beating him up after he reveals his real plan, though.
  • The Noseless: Like her male counterpart Finn, she has no nose.
  • One of the Boys: Seems to consider herself this; in the comics Marshall Lee mentions having a "boy's night" and she asks why they had boy's night without her.
  • Only Sane Woman: She's much less of an Idiot Hero than Finn. She's still kind of an Idiot Hero, but not to Finn's extent.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Fionna is strong enough to lift and hold Prince Gumball, similar to how Finn could lift up Princess Bubblegum.
  • Sailor Senshi Send-Up: She is partially based on Sailor Moon. Highlighted by the dress she wears to the ball, which is very similar to Princess Serenity's iconic dress. Also her bunny hat. (Sailor Moon's real name, Usagi, means rabbit.) It gets another Shout-Out in this alternate cover from the third issue of her comic series.
  • Ship Sinking: The opening sequence of Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake reveals that she dated DJ Flame, with the two even kissing onscreen, until he abruptly dumped her through a text.
  • Signature Headgear: Her bunny hat; much like Finn's bear hat, she is rarely seen without it.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: The Tomboy to Cake's Girly Girl.
  • Tsundere:
    • The first episode she appears in has her as a solid Type A, complete with the He Is Not My Boy Friend and Luminescent Blush combo.
    • "Bad Little Boy" is more Type B; she likes Marshall Lee and thinks he's a jerk. Also Anger Born of Worry when she cries when she thinks he's dying yet still berates him for flirting in such a situation.

    Cake
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cake_7335.png
"Catnip! Sweet babies!"
Voiced by: Roz Ryan

Jake's Gender Flip counterpart (who is a cat) and Fionna's adoptive sister. Has the same stretching powers Jake does.

    Prince Gumball
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/prince_gumball_5013.png
"Come, for the wowiness has only just begun!"
Voiced by: Neil Patrick Harris ("Fionna and Cake", "Bad Little Boy"), Keith Ferguson ("Five Short Tables"), Andrew Rannells (Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake)

Princess Bubblegum's Gender Flip counterpart.

  • Adaptational Name Change: In the Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake series, his name after magic was drained from his universe is "Gary Prince."
  • Amazing Technicolor Population: In the Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake series, after magic was drained from his universe he notably still has pink skin despite everyone else being given more human skin tones. His pink hair is dyed, however.
  • Amazon Chaser: Attracted to Fionna both for her strength and beauty. However this was actually Ice Queen in disguise and simply flattering Fionna into a trap, but the real deal also thinks she is 'incredible' when fighting.
  • Ambiguously Bi:
  • Amicable Exes: In the comic series, it's implied that he and Marshall Lee had a relationship in the past and are now trying to work on having a friendship, though their different personalities make it difficult.
  • Belligerent Sexual Tension: With Marshall Lee in the graphic novels.
  • Betty and Veronica:
    • Unlike in the main timeline, where this isn't really a thing, the Fionna and Cake universe seems to be centered entirely around shipping, with both men more clearly attracted to Fionna. Prince Gumball is the clean-cut, chivalrous Nice Guy Betty to Marshall Lee's edgy, flirty bad boy Veronica.
    • Or Gumball is Archie with Marshall being the Veronica who teases people, is a responsibility-free musician, is the heir of literal hell, would be bad publicity for the kingdom, and "possibly" previously was a mistake while Fionna is Betty who helps people, makes good on promises and quests, is a known hero, would bring good publicity, and is something new. If he has the same fate as his counterpart.
  • Big Ol' Eyebrows: In comparison to other males, like Marshall Lee.
  • Bishie Sparkle: He's occasionally shown to sparkle and is a Pretty Boy.
  • Camp Straight: Given that he outwardly voices attraction to Fionna at the end of "Adventure Time with Fionna and Cake," he seems to be this. Or at least Camp Bi; we don't know much of his life, but if it's anything like his female counterpart's, he may have had something with Marshall Lee.note
  • Depending on the Writer: His relationship with Marshall Lee changes depending on the medium they appear in, as well as who is telling or writing the story. They're enemies in Ice King's stories, possibly exes in Marceline's, and good friends (possibly closer) in Gunther's.
  • Distressed Dude: From what we've seen, he's usually kidnapped by the Ice Queen and rescued by Fionna.
  • Dying Alone: According to "Five Short Tables", this is his greatest fear.
  • Giant Poofy Sleeves: It's his go-to look and they're even poofier than Bubblegum's!
  • Human Popsicle: Ice Queen froze him in a giant ice spike and hung him from the ceiling of his bedroom.
  • Interspecies Romance:
    • His relation with Fionna, since he's a sapient bubblegum being and she is a human.
    • Also implied with Marshall Lee, a vampire.
  • Large Ham: "SO VERY LARGE."
  • Inseries Nickname: Marshall Lee refers to him as "Gumwad" when he's annoyed or making fun of him.
  • Last-Name Basis: When he is addressed by name, he is always referred to as "Prince Gumball" rather than his first name, "Bubba."
  • Masculine Girl, Feminine Boy: Fionna is just as badass as her male counterpart while Prince Gumball is an absolute non-combatant. Interestingly, he also seems to be this to Princess Bubblegum, preferring baking over science and seemingly completely devoid of PB's hidden badass side.
  • Master of the Mixed Message:
    • We can never really tell whether he likes Fionna in the romantic sense or not. It's somewhat confirmed in "Fionna and Cake", but it goes back to being ambiguous in "Bad Little Boy".
    • It's revealed in the graphic novel "Adventure Time: 2017 SPOookTACULAR issue #1" that he also sends mixed signals to Marshall Lee, as he declared that he never wanted to see him again for the pranks he kept pulling on him... only to invite him to the masquerade being held the next day "out of politeness" and then make up excuses for why they shouldn't turn him away at the door. When Marshall Lee unexpectedly shows up to the party, Prince Gumball is initially happy to see him… only to get angry at him for showing up, much to Marshall Lee's surprise, prompting him to accuse Prince Gumball of "messing with his head" for inviting him to a party that he didn't want him to attend.
  • My Greatest Failure: It's not clear what said failure was, but when Butterscotch Butler brings up his "regrets" the screen cuts to a momentary flashback of Marshall Lee hissing at him with an angry look on his face.
  • Necromancer: Like his real female counterpart, he can sort of raise the dead.
  • Nice Guy: So far it doesn't look like he has a hidden side like his counterpart. Although such a hidden side is hinted at when he allows Fionna and Cake to toss the little Jelly Kinders around and kick them onto the ceiling, claiming that they're not alive (they are).
  • Noble Male, Roguish Male: The noble male to Marshall Lee's roguish male for Fionna's affections.
  • Non-Action Guy: From what we've seen, he isn't much of a fighter.
  • The Noseless: He doesn't have a nose.
  • Pretty Boy: To be expected, what with him being a prince, based on the lovely Princess Bubblegum and voiced by Neil Patrick Harris.
  • Punny Name: His full name is Bubba Gumball. According to Word of God, his first name was supposed to be "Blowpop," but that didn't push through due to copyright reasons.
  • Real Men Cook: Artwork by Natasha Allegri shows that he enjoys baking. Confirmed in "Bad Little Boy."
  • Real Men Wear Pink: Being a sentient gum-being, he is pink, but also wears pink, likes baking, and is generally very effeminate compared to Marshall Lee. As the human Gary, he also dyes his hair pink with Fionna's help.
  • Sitcom Archnemesis: To Marshall Lee.
  • Spear Counterpart: He is a male counterpart to Princess Bubblegum.
  • Supreme Chef: Unlike his female counterpart, he trades science skills for being a master baker.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Heavily implied to be the case with Marshall Lee in their original Adventure Time series appearances.

    Marshall Lee
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Marshall_Lee_Day_Time_3622.png
I've got demon eyes, and they're looking right through your anatomy.
Voiced by: Donald Glover

Spear Counterpart to Marceline, the Vampire Queen.

  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: Marceline and Finn are friends while their counterparts seem romantic. Either Marcy just wanted to tell a romance since the princesses would like it, she had some feelings for Finn, or Marshall has no romantic feelings and was just teasing as he is prone to joking more than his counterpart.
  • Affably Evil: He plays the "Bad Boy" persona well, makes no secret of his heritage, and will summon the forces of the undead on you if he has to, but is overall a Jerk with a Heart of Gold.
  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: He believes that Fionna likes him because of this.
  • Ambiguously Bi:
    • Given that he's Marceline's counterpart. While he's never shown interest in boys in the show that's most likely since the story was made when Bubblegum and Marceline were rivals before they got back together. On the other hand, the comic series implies that there was something going on between him and Gumball in the past, but now they're trying to be friends.
    • The show also vaguely hints at a past relationship between Marshall Lee and Gumball in "Five Tables Short" by having Gumball remember Marshall Lee as one of his "regrets".
  • Amicable Exes: In the comic series, it's implied that he and Gumball had a relationship in the past and are now trying to work on having a friendship, though their different personalities make it difficult.
  • Author Avatar: Just like Ice Queen with Marceline herself narrating the fanfic in "Bad Little Boy". Almost an Evil Counterpart since he's nastier than Marceline is currently, pre-Character Development.
  • Bat Out of Hell: He can turn into a bat like his counterpart Marceline as seen in "Bad Little Boy".
  • Belligerent Sexual Tension: With Gumball in the graphic novels.
  • Betty and Veronica:
    • Unlike in the main timeline, where this isn't really a thing, the Fionna and Cake universe seems to be centered entirely around shipping, with both men more clearly attracted to Fionna. Marshal Lee is the edgy, flirty bad boy Veronica to the clean-cut, chivalrous Prince Gumball's Betty.
    • Or Marshall is Archie with Fionna being the Veronica who encourages his outlandish adventurous spirit and Gumball is Betty who tries to keep him in order. If he has the same fate as his counterpart.
  • The Cameo: In the first Fionna and Cake episode.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: As he says in his rap "I'm evil without even trying."
  • Cute Little Fangs: Being a vampire, his entire mouth is full of sharp teeth.
  • Cute Monster Guy: Similar to Marceline, Marshall is an attractive vampire.
  • A Day in the Limelight: The Fionna and Cake episode "Bad Little Boy" focuses mainly on him.
  • Depending on the Writer: His relationship with Marshall Lee changes depending on the medium they appear in, as well as who is telling or writing the story. They're enemies in Ice King's stories, possibly exes in Marceline's, and good friends (possibly closer) in Gunther's.
  • Eerie Pale-Skinned Brunette: Because he's a vampire and he can't stand the sun.
  • Evil Counterpart: Possibly to Marceline, given that he's more antagonistic than she is.
  • Evil Sounds Deep: He speaks in a deep, baritone voice.
  • Full-Name Basis: He's always referred to by his full name.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: It's revealed that he's the son of a demon and the Vampire King in "Bad Little Boy".
  • Immortal Immaturity: He's over a thousand years old, like his female counterpart Marceline, but quite immature and acts like a teenage boy prone to pranking others for his own amusement, regardless of the person being pranked's feelings.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Pushes Cake out of the way and even kidnaps her, just as an elaborate ploy to fake death and get Fionna to admit her feelings for him. And yet, all it took was Fionna crying and calling him out on it to get him to realize how bad he was being. He also has this personality in the comics, and in "Five Short Tables" he's shown to be genuinely concerned about Lumpy Space Prince and tried to cure him of his uncontrollable coughing.
  • Noble Male, Roguish Male: The roguish male to Prince Gumball's noble male for Fionna's affections.
  • Older Than They Look: Like Marceline, he's a thousand years old, but he barely looks any older than Gumball.
  • Pet the Dog: Marshall openly boasts about how evil and villainous he is, but will stop acting mean in a second to stop Fionna from crying.
  • Pretty Boy: Oh boy, is he ever! His first appearance in "Bad Little Boy" is him hovering over Fionna and Cake's house with his hair all tousled by the rain and him flashing his best bedroom eyes at Fionna.
  • Punny Name: His full name sounds just like Marceline.
  • Sitcom Archnemesis: To Gumball; they relate with insults and pastry stealing.
  • Spear Counterpart: He is a male version of Marceline.
  • Tall, Dark, and Handsome: According to the fangirls, and he does fit the description of being tall, dark-haired, and good-looking.
  • Troll: Pastry stealing, kidnapping, and faking his death all for his own amusement.
  • Vampire Monarch: He is the Vampire King, after all.
  • Vegetarian Vampire: Like Marceline, he's mostly seen draining the red from red or pink objects like Gumball's cream puffs.
  • Villain Song: Though he gets two songs in the episode, his second song (the rap complete with beatboxing skeleton Mooks) definitely qualifies.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Heavily implied to be the case with Prince Gumball in their original Adventure Time series appearances.
  • Would Hit a Girl: First kicks Fionna through the other side of the stage in a playful fight, later pushes Cake into a tree, then engages in some shapeshifter brawling with Cake.
  • You Don't Look Like You: In the 2023 Fionna and Cake series, fans are introduced to human Marshall Lee, a black man with dark skin and medium-length dreads who looks little like his light blue-skinned, short wavy-haired Vampire form pictured above. As well, instead of a vampire bite, he has a mole on his neck. This would turn out to be the result of magic being drained from his universe.

    Lumpy Space Prince
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/b92ee89c7f1c46c8361ea538cd87ad59.png
Voiced by: Pendleton Ward, Peter Serafinowicz ("The Prince Who Wanted Everything")

The handsome, charmingly suave, and generous prince of Lumpy Space.

  • Alternate Character Interpretation:
    • Invoked. In Marceline's rendition of the Ice King's fanfic, LSPrince is (unsurprisingly) the exact same character as LSPrincess, only with a peach-fuzz mustache. Odd thing is: this is only LSP's second appearance (he first appeared in "Adventure Time with Fionna and Cake" in a non-speaking role). It wouldn't be until his 3rd appearance that gave him character development and turned him into what is essentially the exact opposite of LSP's personality.
    • The actual episode reveals that Ice King also views him as virtually identical to LSP and the suave, sophisticated portrayal he gets in the episode is only because LSP forced him to alter the character.
  • Her Codename Was Mary Sue: When LSP dictates his story, he goes from the exact same person as her to a smooth-voiced, cool gentleman. This is less because she sees herself this way, and more because she was giving her counterpart all the traits of her dream guy in the case that Ice King could make him real.
  • Large Ham: If possible, he's an even bigger ham than his female counterpart!
  • Pretty Boy: Parodied. His face frequently shifts from LSP with some peach fuzz to a classic Animesque bishonen, while retaining his lumpy purple body.
  • Tertiary Sexual Characteristics: Since LSP already has a gender-neutral appearance, the only difference between her and her male counterpart is the addition of a mustache.
  • Vocal Dissonance: Somehow manages to have this for the exact opposite reasons as his female counterpart. His suave British accent fits his appearance even less than LSP's husky Valley Girl one.

    Lord Monochromicorn

    Ice Queen

Ha! You should talk! Keeping all the babes to yourself, totally ice-blocking my game!

Ice King's Gender Flip, who also manages to look thirty years younger than him. Instead of the trademark crown, she wears a tiara instead.

  • Abhorrent Admirer: Her obsession with Prince Gumball mirrors Ice King's habit of kidnapping Princess Bubblegum, with Gumball finding Ice Queen just as repellent.
  • Adaptational Backstory Change: According to Gunter's version of events, she was a kindly person before she went mad, but she's not a variant of Simon, nor does she have a Betty equivalent; She was already magical, being a water nymph, but she went insane when a cat she befriended accidentally used a madness-inducing jewel to revive her instead of slowly being driven insane by a crown in the 20th century.
  • Amulet of Concentrated Awesome: If she loses her tiara, she loses all her powers.
  • Attractive Bent-Gender: Best example out of all the genderbent characters, as she appears taller and much younger than the actual Ice King and wears a beautiful blue gown. Justified, as not only does she exist in a fanfiction of his creation, but according to Gunter she didn't go through the same decades-long process of insanity Simon did. It's also because Natasha Allegri, who designed her, has said that she finds attractive villains far more unsettling than ugly ones.
  • Author Avatar: To the Ice King in her first appearance.
  • Came Back Wrong: In the comics, she started out as a water nymph that nearly died protecting a cat when it was endangered trying to look for a powerful jewel. The cat used the jewel to bring her back to life, but it resulted in her going mad and turning into the icy hag she is today.
  • Demoted to Extra: In the Fionna and Cake mini-series, she is reduced to a background character with only a couple of lines.
  • Dirty Old Woman:
    • She goes after the much younger Prince Gumball, mirroring the way her male counterpart goes after young princesses.
    • Lampshaded hilariously by Fionna:
Fionna: Ice Queen, why you always predatoring on dudes!?
  • Distaff Counterpart: She's a female Ice King.
  • Dying as Yourself: In the comics, once she gets ahold of the heated salt crystal she put inside Flame Prince, it negates the evil within the jewels on her tiara and brings her back to her senses before she melts away. As it's Gunther telling the story this time, it's unknown if this'll stick or not.
  • Evil Is Deathly Cold: She has ice magic and uses it for destructive purposes when battling Fionna or trying to kidnap Prince Gumball.
  • Evil Old Folks: Also like Ice King, she's an elderly villain.
  • God Save Us from the Queen!: Like Ice King but female.
  • For the Evulz: Unlike Ice King, she doesn't seem to have any redeeming values and doesn't care who has to get hurt to get what she wants.
  • Her Codename Was Mary Sue: She's a more attractive, more competent version of the Ice King, her initial story's author.
  • An Ice Person: She has the ability to control ice much like her male counterpart, but her powers are much more offensive.
  • Lady of Black Magic: More serious than Ice King and has much more powerful magic. She also wears a feminine and elegant blue dress.
  • Latex Perfection: Her disguise as Prince Gumball was pretty much spot-on, unlike the Ice King's Bubblegum disguise.
  • Making a Splash: This is an extension of her true magic as a water nymph.
  • More Deadly Than the Male: Much more competent than the Ice King. Justified, as it's a fanfiction of Ice King, so he probably made her competent regardless of her gender.
  • Most Fanfic Writers Are Girls: Just like how Ice King wrote the fanfiction she lives in, in "Five Short Tables" it's revealed she writes her own fanfiction with Spear Counterparts of herself, Fionna and Cake in the form of Ice President, Flynn the Human Being, and Jacques the Raccoon.
  • Never Mess with Granny: She may be old, but that doesn't make her any less formidable in combat.
  • The Noseless: In contrast to Ice King's long, sword-like schnoz. Early concept art shows that she was going to have one, though. She did have a nose while she was still a water nymph in the comics, implying the jewels removed it when she became Ice Queen.
  • Older Than They Look: The Ice Queen looks like a reasonably attractive middle-aged woman but is actually much older.
  • Reality Warper: At the climax, she somehow manages to turn Fionna's sword into a useless block of ice just by staring at it. This should probably be the first sign that she's actually a powerhouse created by the Ice King.
  • The Reveal: The comic based on the characters goes into her backstory. Unlike Ice King, she wasn't human but rather a kindly water nymph. She saved a cat from danger and it sought to repay her by entering a dangerous labyrinth to claim a jewel. She followed it and saved it from another hazard but was injured in the process. So the cat used the jewel to save her, but it made her crazy in the process. Eventually taking on the moniker of the Ice Queen and fashioning a tiara with the jewel embedded in it.
  • Shout-Out: According to Word of God, her dress is supposed to resemble the dresses of the stepsisters from Cinderella.
  • Silver Vixen: Presumably as old as the Ice King and sports the voice of an old witch, but is absolutely gorgeous.
  • True Blue Femininity: Inverted: she's cruel, deceptive and everything but 'fair and gentle'.
  • Unusual Eyebrows: The counterpart to Ice King's beard.
  • Villain Sue: Turns out to be an in-universe example. The wake up call to this would probably be the fact that she somehow managed to turn Fionna's sword into a useless block of ice by just looking at it.
  • With Great Power Comes Great Insanity:
    • Since she's the gender swapped Ice King, it's safe to say her tiara also drove her insane.
Fionna: (after knocking the tiara off Cake) No! You might catch her crazy.
    • The comics implied that this was indeed the case. However it wasn't so much the tiara itself, but rather the jewels within it that did it.
  • Winter Royal Lady: She has the title of Ice Queen, is always seen wearing blue, and is most definitely dangerous. Turns out she was born like this since she was originally a water nymph.

    Ice King
At the beginning of "Bad Little Boy", Ice King writes himself as a major Marty Stu in his latest Fionna and Cake story.
  • As Himself: In-universe example. Unlike the other storytellers that alter their counterparts when they tell their story, Ice King portrays himself with his normal mannerisms.
  • Decomposite Character: Ice Queen was meant to be his counterpart in the genderbend universe, but Ice King is portrayed as separate from her.

    Gunter
In the same fanfic, Ice King's loyal servant Gunter appears as Fionna and Cake's mount. Here, he/she/it's now fifty feet tall and shoots Frickin' Laser Beams.
  • Depending on the Writer: Ice King's version of him is a giant that shoots laser beams. Gunter's cameo in his own interpretation sees him filling the exact same role he always does in the original universe.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Since Gunter's gender can go either way in the original universe (aside from the use of he/him pronouns), the fanfic version is pretty much the same penguin.

    Lady Lemongrabs
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lady-lemongrabs_6839.png
Voiced by: Jinkx Monsoon and Cree Summer (Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake)

The genderbent counterparts to the Lemongrabs. They are quite similar to the originals, but are noticeably sexier... Well, slightly. The two debuted in the third issue of the Fionna and Cake comics, in the 2-page ministory "Sour Candy" by Kate Leth.

  • Abusive Parents: While not outright abusive, Lady Lemongrab isn't the most... competent mother. She frequently yells harshly at her children when making simple requests or statements, and even ties up one of them in ribbon, even as the little thing wiggles in protest. Throughout their debut comic, the lemon children seem very unhappy, and their moms are oblivious to this.
  • Alliterative Name: Rather than referring to themselves as countesses, they call themselves "Lady Lemongrabs."
  • All Lesbians Want Kids: Being psycho lesbians certainly didn't stop the Lady Lemongrabs from wanting to have children - or succeeding in their reproductive efforts!
  • Attractive Bent-Gender: Kinda subtle. The Lady Lemongrabs don't look much different from the originals aside from the obligatory and silly tertiary sexual characteristics. But they do appear to each have two butt cheeks (visible because they wear very tight pants,) unlike the original one-cheeked Lemongrabs.
  • Author Appeal: Possibly the reason that the Lady Lemongrabs wear eyeshadow, mascara, blush, and lipstick. The author of their first comic loves makeup, and frequently posts makeup tutorials on her Kate Or Die website and Tumblr.
  • Big, Screwed-Up Family: Moreso than their male counterparts. Their kids don't seem as happy with their strange endeavors.
  • But Not Too Gay: To promote "Sour Candy," Kate Leth made a drawing that she described as "homoerotic." She then followed this up by explicitly stating that the comic itself was not that homoerotic. Also overlaps with Hide Your Lesbians, because the lesbian aspects of these characters are significantly toned down in "Sour Candy."
  • Color-Coded Characters: The color schemes of their outfits are black, grey, and white, and reversed for them. Lady Lemongrab 1 seems to be the one wearing the white shirt.
  • Cute Mute: Their lemon children. The little ones seem to communicate through simple gestures, and facial expressions- in addition to speech bubbles containing vague symbols. This could be due to their very young age, though.
  • Dysfunctional Family: They have one. Just look at how sad their kids look throughout "Sour Candy."
  • Everything's Sparkly with Jewelry: They have jewels on the front of their blouses, and sometimes on their belts.
  • The Fashionista: Unlike their male counterparts, who wear very simple jumpsuits, the Lady Lemongrabs wear puffy-sleeved blouses with yellow jewels on the front, long gloves, stylish belts, and taller boots, in addition to makeup. They also appear to have a variety of costumes.
  • Feminine Women Can Cook: Hilariously averted- the cake that Lady Lemongrab makes is horrible.
  • Fictional Holiday: "Happiest Lemon Day" is a holiday created by the Lady Lemongrabs to celebrate... something?
  • Flipping the Table: Lady Lemongrab does this to a couch while shrieking "NYAH!"
  • Gag Nose: Kate Leth didn't shy away from giving the Lady Lemongrabs the same long, pointy noses for which the original Lemongrabs are so well-known.
  • Giant Poofy Sleeves: Both Lady Lemongrabs have these.
  • Hartman Hips: They have rather wide hips.
  • Holding Hands: In this print by "Sour Candy" creator Kate Leth.
  • Homosexual Reproduction: Like their male counterparts, the Lady Lemongrabs found a way to make themselves children. Unlike the males, we're not sure how they managed to do this.
  • Hulk Speak: Sometimes does this when she gets very emotional.
  • Hysterical Woman: Like their counterparts they are given to drama and shouting.
  • Large Ham: Of course. Just watch Lady Lemongrab frantically/psychotically making a cake and decorating the castle.
  • Lethal Chef:
    • The cake that Lady Lemongrab makes contains mold, slime, dead bugs, possibly a rat, and a sharpened pencil.
    • This aspect may have been included to make her a foil to Prince Gumball, a skilled baker, as Earl of Lemongrab is a foil to the genius scientist Princess Bubblegum by being an irresponsible scientist and a ditz.
  • Lipstick Lesbian: Kate Leth wrote the two Lady Lemongrabs to be a couple. They are also extremely feminine and even wear lipstick. As seen in the hand-holding illustration above, however, they don't always wear lipstick.
  • Mad Scientist's Beautiful Daughter: Partial aversion. Prince Gumball seems to be fairly mild-mannered and sane- it's his daughters who are the crazy ones. They're still quite attractive, though.
  • Male Gaze: (Not just for the male readers, though.) This is pretty much the only reason why Kate Leth gave the Lady Lemongrabs skin-tight pants that show off their butt cheeks, and making them turn around to give the reader a nice look.
  • Modest Royalty: Downplayed. Like the Lemongrabs, they don't wear any visual indicators of their royal titles. However, they are noticeably fancier than the Lemongrabs, and more flamboyant in their dress.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: They appear to have buckets of slime and dead animals, among other things, in their basement. Which Lady Lemongrab eventually bakes into a cake.
  • No Indoor Voice: Of course, just like the original Lemongrabs. "LEMON CHILD! WHERE DO WE KEEP THE FUN SUPPLIES?!"
  • Painted-On Pants: Both wear extremely tight pants that give the viewer a good look at their butt cheeks.
  • Psycho Lesbian: Literally. It's been confirmed that lemon people, by nature, are prone to clinical insanity.
  • Serious Business: For them, everything is serious business.
  • Super-Strength: Lady LG flipped a couch without much effort.
  • Tertiary Sexual Characteristics: The Lady Lemongrabs are nearly identical to the original Lemongrabs. Aside from breasts, the only major differences are their outfits and makeup.

    Dr. Prince
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/s5e11_dr_prince.png
Voiced by: Tom Kenny

Dr. Princess' Gender Flip counterpart. A villain in one of Ice King's stories.

  • Adaptational Villainy: Doctor Princess is a good-aligned character, but here he's apparently a villain for some reason.

    BMO
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bmo_7.png

In two non-speaking appearances, BMO looks exactly the same as the "non-fictional" BMO. This may be because BMO doesn't actually have a defined gender to flip.

    Flame Prince
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/flame-prince_2195.png
Voiced by: Hannibal Buress

The Gender Flip of Flame Princess.

  • Ambiguously Bi: Although some artwork depicts him as a potential new interest for Fionna, he also displays some heavily implied romantic feelings towards Turtle Prince in "Five Short Tables".
  • Elemental Hair Colors: His hair is red and spiked-up to go with his nature as a fire elemental.
  • Involuntary Shapeshifter: Turns into a little ball of flame when his temperature decreases too much. He can be touched in this form without injury.
  • Mirror Self: Unlike Flame Princess, he's totally good and innocent from the start, thanks to being raised by animals instead of being kept as a prisoner in a Decadent Court.
  • Mr. Fanservice: The first time we see him, he's only wearing a loincloth.
  • Raised by Wolves: Flame Prince was raised by his fire lion pride.
  • Ship Tease: Fionna and Turtle Prince.
  • Wild Child: Although he is not socially maladjusted, just unable to speak the common language. Since he was raised by fire lions, he can speak cat. Cake says he has a really heavy accent.

    Tail Tufts
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/male_tree_trunks.png

The Gender Flip of Tree Trunks, as seen in the story "A Penny Burned" from the comic one-shot Adventure Time 2013 Summer Spectacular.

    Butterscotch Butler
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/butterscotch_butler.png
Voiced by: Elle Newlands

A Scottish butterscotch butler. The gender-swapped version of Peppermint Butler.

  • Brave Scot: She has a Scottish accent, and if she's anything like Pep-But is a force to be reckoned with. She's certainly a fierce and ruthless opponent when it comes to board games, according to "Five Short Tables".
  • Department of Redundancy Department: When Gumball calls her, he calls her "Butterscotch Buttler, the butterscotch Scottish butler."
  • Punny Name: Butterscotch Butler has a Scottish accent.

    Turtle Prince
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/turtle_prince_offical.png
Voiced by: Crispin Freeman

The Gender Flip of Turtle Princess.

  • '80s Hair: His glam metal hairstyle sets him apart from his female counterpart.
  • Ambiguously Gay: Unlike his female counterpart, he seems to be interested in Flame Prince rather than the opposite gender.
  • Bookworm: Like Turtle Princess, he likes books.
  • Ship Tease: "Five Short Tables" hints toward him and Flame Prince becoming a couple.

    Other fanfic characters
Not only does Fionna and Cake take place in a gender-swapped fanfic universe, but they also write about a gender-swapped fanfic universe of themselves. Who write a gender-swapped fanfic universe of themselves.

Flynn The Human Being

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/flynn_the_human.png
  • Foil: He is this to Fionna. They are both heroic adventurers and fight off an evil wizard that has plans for their land. But while Fionna is an energetic Determinator who isn't afraid to speak her mind, Flynn is a stoic and extremely fancy Flat Character who has yet to get a speaking role or even a Day in the Limelight.
  • Spear Counterpart: He serves as this to Fionna.

Jacques The Raccoon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/s07e35_jacques_the_raccoon.png
  • Foil: He is this to Cake. They are both animal sidekicks to their human compatriots and help them with anything they come across. But while Cake is a sassy cat who isn't afraid to speak her mind as much as Fionna does if not more so, Jacques is a stoic and extremely fancy Flat Character who has yet to get a speaking role or even a Day in the Limelight and doesn't even show off his shapeshifting powers.
  • Spear Counterpart: He serves as this to Cake.

Ice President

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/icepresident.png
  • Foil: He is this to the Ice Queen. They are both power-hungry Big Bad Big Bads who are even more cunning than the Ice King ever will. But while the Ice Queen is The Sociopath, the Ice President is more of an Anti-Villain and appears to be like a third to Flynn and Jacques' partnership.
  • Spear Counterpart: He serves as this to the Ice Queen.

Farm World

    In General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_2390.png
An agrarian version of Ooo created when Finn wished the Lich never existed. It still has its own problems to worry about, such as the gangs that roam around.
  • Adaptational Mundanity: Due to initially lacking the Lich's presence thanks to averting the Mushroom War, there's far less magic going around in Farmworld than Ooo. While Marceline is still half-demon, her lack of vampire powers makes her age like the other humans.
  • After the End: While Farmworld was already Post-Apocalyptic, the world is shown to have become even worse ever since Farmworld Finn regained his sanity and Big Destiny managed to take back control of the town.
  • In Spite of a Nail:
    • Despite being a universe where the Lich never existed, events transpire so that a new Lich is created anyway.
    • The divergence in this universe is Simon Petrikov sacrificing his life to stop the Mushroom Bomb from setting off. 1000 years later, it sets off anyway.
    • The radically different history of this universe did not stop the eventual existence of some of the same people seen in Ooo, including denizens of Ooo who were not human, like Choose Goose.
  • Scavenged Punk: By the events of Fionna and Cake, most residents living under Big Destiny's rule are seen wearing outfits and driving vehicles made from various objects cobbled together in a Mad Max-esque fashion.

Click here to see Adult Finn.

Voiced by: Jeremy Shada

Finn's counterpart in the Farmworld universe.

  • Anti-Villain: He becomes the new Ice King and starts freezing everyone on Earth because he thinks that's protecting them. Later on, he helps the Lich with his goals, freezing people to be his prisoners and trapping the heroic Bobby all because the Lich lied to him about using the Enchiridion of Farmworld to reach the Multiverse and travel as friends (which was just the Lich trying to bring all life in existence to a halt as usual).
  • Artificial Limbs: Has a crude mechanical right arm. As of Fionna and Cake, it's been upgraded to a Swiss-Army Appendage that can flip between a hand or an attachment for at least as much as an axe, spoon, or flamethrower.
  • Badass Normal: As an adult, despite lacking the experience that main world Finn has, this Finn is able to beat Little Destiny's gang and give Scarab some trouble.
  • Classical Anti-Hero:
    • Compared to main world Finn, he's a lot less respected, and his initial goals are mostly on protecting his family.
    • By the time of Fionna and Cake, this trait is further pronounced. He prefers to live a quiet life in the wilderness, away from the roving gangs of the apocalypse, focused only on his family and nothing else.
  • The Bus Came Back: "Crossover" reveals that the Farmwold was not erased by Jake's wish, it continued to exist in parallel with other realities. Our Finn, with Prismo's help, travels to the alternate timeline and exorcises both the Lich and the ice crown.
  • Foil: Most obviously to Finn but also prominently to Simon. Simon secretly misses the allure of the crown and aims to be magical again to fit in within Ooo. Farmworld!Finn, while living on the outskirts of society, has a place as the patriarch of his family and recognizes how the crown's return would doom that peace.
  • Gonk:
    • Viewed as this to Jake at least.
Jake: Man, Alternate Wish-World Finn is mad uglies!
    • Since the primary difference in appearance is that Farmworld Finn has eyes with sclera rather than just black dots and a visible nose (and a prosthetic arm, but that doesn't really hurt his appearance much), to some extent this may simply be a matter of moving him closer to human appearance and therefore deeper into the Uncanny Valley.
  • An Ice Person: He puts on the Ice King's crown and uses its power.
  • The Lost Lenore: His wife, who's heavily implied to be the Farmworld version of Huntress Wizard due to one of their children having the same skin tone and hair as Hunter, had passed away before the events of the spin-off.
  • The Noseless: Inverted. His most significant feature from the regular Finn is that Finn's nose, like most of Ooo's, isn't visible.
  • Took a Level in Cynic: The trauma of being Ice Finn, the Destiny Gang regaining power and using him as a pariah for the sake of their good images as well as the death of his wife, has hardened this Finn into someone who hates all kinds of magic and wants nothing more than to keep himself and his children hidden away in the forest.
  • Trauma Button: Overlaps with Berserk Button, but the mention of the Ice King's crown immediately puts him on the offensive, calling Simon a "damned fool" for trying to find it. He basically kicks them out of his house at the mere mention.
  • Uncertain Doom: His fate at the end of "Destiny" is left unclear, as Fionna, Cake, and Simon quickly leave the Farmworld after he's pinned to the ground and stabbed in the head by Scarab. Even when Jay and Little Destiny arrive in Fionna's world, they never bring Finn up or show if he's alive.
  • Unwitting Pawn: The Lich of his world tricks him into a plan to destroy every timeline, which Ice Finn falls for because he's too insane to see how Obviously Evil he is.
  • With Great Power Comes Great Insanity: Ice King's crown drives him very crazy, very fast. When Simon, Fionna, and Cake attempt to find the Ice Crown, he warns them of how dangerous it is.

    Jake
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/farm_world_jake.png

Jake's counterpart in the Farmworld universe.

  • Adaptational Mundanity: Because the Mushroom Bomb didn't go off, the lack of magic in the world resulted in Jake being an ordinary non-sapient dog.
  • Demonic Possession: Farmworld Jake ends up possessed by the Lich. Fortunately, both Finn the Human and Farmworld Finn would purge the Lich from his body and restore him to being a normal dog.
  • Old Dog: Jake is still alive by the time of Fionna and Cake, but is now very old and lethargic. He's so wrinkly that Cake's paw print stays on his head for hours, tipping off Scarab that Fionna and Cake had been to the house.

    Marceline Abadeer

Marceline's counterpart in the Farmworld universe.

    Simon Petrikov
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_2402.jpeg
Voiced by: Tom Kenny

Simon's counterpart in the Farmworld universe.

  • Dead Alternate Counterpart: This Simon died in a Heroic Sacrifice to stop the Mushroom Bomb, as opposed to the Simon from the timelines that lead to the creation of Ooo and Simon's transformation into the Ice King.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: He was able to stop the bomb that would create the Lich, but in doing so was crushed underneath the frozen bomb.
  • Major Injury Underreaction: His only reaction to being crushed by a massive, frozen nuclear bomb is "Little help?"
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: His Heroic Sacrifice prevented the world from being destroyed by the Mushroom Bomb, but his death caused his crown to lash out in a spasm of magic that put the world into an ice age for 400 years. 600 years later, humanity could only come up to the medieval ages in terms of technology. Additionally, his death only delayed the inevitable, as eventually, the Mushroom Bomb goes off anyway.

    Choose Bruce
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_2403.png
Voiced by: Jeff Bennett

Choose Goose's counterpart in the Farmworld universe.

  • Alternate Self: A human version of Choose Goose.
  • Con Man: By the time of Fionna and Cake with the brutal rule of the Destiny Gang, he's resorted to conning suckers out of their valuables.
  • Mugging the Monster:
    • He threatens Fionna with a spiked club when she tries to get her phone back, and Cake wallops him with a shapeshifted fist for his trouble.
    • He tries extorting a disguised Scarab out of any valuables he has in exchange for information regarding Fionna, Cake, and Simon's whereabouts. Scarab's response is revealing his true face and threatening to kill Choose Bruce unless he talks.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Fionna and Cake shows him having become greedier since his last appearance, tricking Fionna into trading her phone for a fake crown and then attempting to smash them with a club when they demand a refund.

    Big Destiny
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bigdestiny_4.png

Voiced by: James Kyson

The off-kilter leader of the Destiny Gang, a group of criminals in the Farmworld universe.

  • Bad Boss: It's obvious that his henchmen are pretty terrified of him. The biggest example would be when he learns that his daughter is dating Finn's son Jay from one of his followers who expects to be rewarded, Big Destiny "rewards" him by pushing him into a large crater with the implications that the fall killed him.
  • Bald of Evil: He's shown to have a receding hairline by the time of Fionna and Cake, and is still no less of an evil jerk.
  • Evil Is Petty: He steals the crown Finn was going to use to pay him back under the grounds that any property of the dead belongs to him anyway, then he steals the donkey Finn was going to sell to pay him off anyway, seemingly for kicks. It's implied his burning down the town and trying to burn Finn's family alive is just because Finn and the townspeople stood up to him.
  • Fake Ultimate Hero: After the events of "Crossover" when the Farmworld version of the Ice Crown is destroyed, he takes responsibility for stopping Ice Finn despite actually being controlled by the Lich and later frozen like everyone else when Finn and Jake actually did it.
  • Jerkass: He's an utter jerk that harasses villagers and destroys their property for fun. Similarly, he also steals territory from rival gangs even after they signed a treaty that says otherwise beforehand.
  • Large Ham: He's pretty bombastic.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: His trying to burn Finn's family alive directly results in Finn putting on the Ice King's crown to save them and trap Big Destiny in ice. By "Crossover" Big Destiny is used by the Lich to collect the Gems of Power from Farmworld and then immediately frozen again once he's fulfilled his purpose.
  • Laughably Evil: He may be a ruthless gang leader but that doesn't mean he isn't hilarious.
  • No Honor Among Thieves: When his cronies abandon him to save themselves, he actually expresses pride in them.
"I have taught you well, my traitorous gang."
  • Offscreen Teleportation: Used and lampshaded when Finn finds him setting fire to his home despite only just leaving Destiny at his hideout.
"Yeah! How did I even get here, son?"
  • Sinister Shades: Those evil-looking sunglasses should be a pretty big giveaway that Big Destiny's not a good guy. Farmworld Finn ends up destroying them in "Destiny", revealing that he has big green eyes behind them.
  • The Social Darwinist: To some extent. When Finn challenges Big Destiny to a fight to demand his crown back, Big D beats Finn, but gives him the crown anyway, seemingly impressed by the bravery Finn displayed. Further, at the end of the episode, his cronies run from Finn without saving him, and Big D expresses approval.
  • Would Harm a Senior: Orders one of his henchmen to beat up an elderly Marceline for trying to get her crown back.
  • Would Hurt a Child: He attempts to burn Finn's family alive, including his infant sibling. He's also not above killing both Finn's son Jay and later even his own daughter Little Destiny when he learns that the two of them are in love with each other.

In "Finn the Human", an Alternate Timeline was created where the bomb wasn't detonated in an attempt to keep the Lich from existing. Unfortunately, a series of events in "Jake the Dog" leads to the bomb detonating six hundred years later in the present day, creating a new Lich from Jake.

The Finn and Jake of the main timeline later vanquished him, but in doing so severed his hand and scattered it to the multiverse, allowing him to continue his omnicidal quest across many other universes through these still-living fragments.

  • Ambiguous Situation: It's unclear if the Lich-hand in "Together Again" is the one Sweet P slew given the episode is set in the afterlife or one of near-endless copies considering the portal it fell into was connected to every other dimension.
  • Compelling Voice: Like the original Lich, which becomes a Wham Line in "Together Again" when New Death is frozen in place by a paper talisman and a familiar voice says "Burn."
  • False Friend:
    • "Crossover" reveals that after Farmworld Finn was rendered insane by the Ice King's crown, the Lich pretended to be his friend to manipulate him into opening a portal to the multiverse. Farmworld Finn believes he's finding a new home for humanity after his powers cause a new ice age, but once the portal opens, the Lich takes great pleasure in telling Finn he's going to kill him, his family, and every other living thing over and over on infinite worlds.
    • "Together Again" reveals that the Lich "befriended" the son of Life and Death just in order to manipulate him into killing his father, thus turning him into New Death. The Lich then literally acts as New Death's "right-hand" all the while manipulating him into destroying the Dead Worlds to end the cycle of reincarnation, admitting to Finn and Jake that New Death is nothing more than a pawn who has no other purpose but to help him end all life.
  • Final Boss: Having possessed New Death, he becomes the main antagonist of Together Again, making him Finn and Jake's final foe before they pass on to reincarnate.
  • From a Single Cell: Downplayed. Even though this version of the Lich is purged from Farmworld Jake’s body and destroyed by the Maid, his consciousness still survived within his severed hand, which ends up copied and send to every other universe. That being said, the Lich doesn’t seem to be capable of regenerating his body, only able to act as a disembodied and moving hand, though he does morph his shadow into the shape of the Lich from Finn’s world.
  • Godzilla Threshold: Realizing that he was manipulating New Death all along is what finally spurs Finn and Jake to kill the latter. And it also causes the final fight between the brothers, as neither wants to let the other become the next Death.
    Jake: That settles it.
Finn: We have to ice Death now.
  • Hero Killer: In Distant Lands he indirectly causes the death of Death, albeit by manipulating Death's son into doing the job for him.
  • Hijacked by Ganon: "Together Again", which serves as the Grand Finale to both Distant Lands and the original series, seemingly has a new main antagonist in the form of New Death, who is destroying all the Dead Worlds to end the cycle of reincarnation. Then the final few minutes of the episode reveal that Lich has been manipulating and controlling him all along, making him the True Final Boss of the series.
  • In Spite of a Nail: The Farmworld version of the Lich acts exactly like the one from the main timeline despite being manifested a thousand years later, and has the same memories if "Whispers" is any indication. It's implied he knows about other versions of himself given he talks about Finn besting him "on many worlds".
  • It's a Wonderful Plot: An interesting case in which Finn wishes this on him. We then see what the world is like if the Lich hadn't existed. It ends up backfiring as Jake becomes the stand-in for the Lich in the alternate timeline.
  • Manipulative Bastard: This also applies to Farmworld Lich, who acts as a False Friend to Finn and appeals to his insanity in order to get him to use the Enchiridion.
  • Multiversal Conqueror: In "Crossover", Farmworld!Lich attempts to trick Farmworld!Finn so that he can open a portal to every reality, allowing him to invade them all at once. Main!Finn severs his hand which falls through the portal and is sent to every universe, and while the Lich himself isn't able to follow, even that appendage has enough of his power and dark will to carry on his cause.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: Just like the main Lich. Distant Lands takes it further as "Together Again" shows that the Lich desires to end the cycle of reincarnation by destroying all Dead Worlds so that life can never recover from his devastation.
  • Red Baron: His favorite epithet seems to be the Ceaseless Wheel. Farmworld!Lich refers to himself as this twice, once to Farmworld!Finn and the second time when he's confronting Sweet P (where he reveals another title of his is "the Last Scholar of GOLB").
  • Sadist: He takes clear relish in revealing his true intentions to Farmworld!Finn, who had believed they were friends until he gave the Lich access to the Multiverse.
Farmworld Finn: That's great! Then we can live everywhere!
The Lich: Everywhere you will die.
    Farmworld Finn: [nervously] Heh, what?
The Lich: You. Your family. Everyone will die. Over and over! Mountains of broken bodies, beneath the wheel! [Prepares to kill Jake in front of Farmworld Finn]
  • Uncertain Doom: Sweet P stabs him as a hand and causes him to explode into spirits. This leaves no portion of him behind, but he's returned from similar destruction before by possessing other bodies. Later in "Together Again" he appears in the Dead World, but it's never stated if he got there by dying or traveled there magically the way Finn and Jake did before.]
  • Villainous Breakdown: Has one when Sweet P decides not to join him and kills him instead.
  • Villain Respect: A bigger example is in the episode "Whispers." He reveals that Finn has bested him in many worlds, possibly alluding to how the Lich's hand was spread throughout the Multiverse and the implications that the various alternate Finns (and perhaps Fionnas, too) stopped his plans.

Billy's counterpart in the Farmworld universe.

  • Alternate Self: A human version of Billy.
  • Badass in Distress: Given who he's a counterpart of, his being introduced as a captive of Farmworld Finn and the Lich serves to establish their threat.

    Little Destiny

The daughter of Big Destiny and a member of the Destiny Gang.

  • '80s Hair: There's a reason Cake refers to her as "Mullet Girl".
  • Dating What Daddy Hates: Big D does not take finding out Little D is high-fiving Jay with her mouth very well.
  • I Choose to Stay: After being delivered to Fionna's world to help stop the Scarab, she and Jay ultimately choose to stay in it.
  • Incurable Cough of Death: She's suffering from worsening coughs and chills, which she's hiding from her dad who would just consider it weakness. It's being caused by a gem from the Ice King's Crown that Jay gave to her, not knowing that it was cursed.
  • Star-Crossed Lovers: She is secretly dating Jay, despite the fact that her father and his gang harasses Jay's family.

Finn's daughter in the Farmworld universe.

  • Cheerful Child: She's always upbeat and full of wonder about everything, in sharp contrast to the rather miserable universe she lives in.
  • Continuity Nod: Like his previous daughter in the Pillow Universe, she is named Bonnie.
  • Tagalong Kid: Averted. She tries to be one when Jay is taking Fionna, Cake, and Simon to where the crown is hidden, but Jay stuffs her in the hay so she can't follow them or tattle.
  • Troubling Unchildlike Behavior: She tells Fionna how excited she is to be old enough to kill people. That said, she's probably young enough that she doesn't really understand the gravity of that statement, and death and killing are just normal life in the post-apocalypse she grew up in.

Pillow World

    In General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_2391.png
A world made of pillows.
  • All Just a Dream: When older Finn "dies", he wakes up in the original world, and goes to tell Jake about the weird dream he had, only to forget about it. Unless it wasn't a dream at all...
  • Ambiguous Situation: It is unknown whether or not Finn's time in Pillow World was all just a dream.
  • Mind Screw: The very fact that Finn manages to get lost in the Pillowverse, find a girl, get married, have children, embark on a quest to get back to his home-world, grow old, and die, only for this entire thing to (possibly) be a dream...it left more than a few people saying "Huh?!"
  • Our Dragons Are Different: The Blanket Dragon is made of pillows, but it resembles a more traditional dragon shape than the one in the Land of Ooo.
  • Planet of Hats: The Pillow World is filled with pillow people with Roselinen being the token humanoid.
  • Uncertain Doom: Is possibly destroyed by GOLB.
  • Vanishing Village: Portals between Ooo and the Pillow World only have brief and occasional existence.
  • Year Inside, Hour Outside: Finn grows old in the Pillow World while only an hour or so passes in the Land of Ooo. It could be that this is because it's a dream.

    Quilton

The daughter of Quilton, the mayor of Pillow World.

  • Girl of the Week: She married Finn and even had children with him but is soon left behind at the episode's end. However, due to the events of “Puhoy” possibly being All Just a Dream, it's unknown whether it's real or not.

Winter World

    In General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_2394.jpeg
A snowy wonderland where the kindly Winter King is menaced by the Candy Queen. However, not all is well underneath the land's glittery surface.
  • Mirror Universe: A world in which the benevolent Winter King is menaced by the villainous Candy Queen. Or, rather, it seems like one....
  • Role Swap AU: In this world, it's the crazed leader of the Candy Kingdom harassing the Winter Kingdom rather than the other way around. This is because the Winter King redirected the madness of the crown to Princess Bubblegum, leaving her with the same instability Ice King would normally have.

    The Winter King
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/latest_24.jpeg
Voiced by: Brian David Gilbert, Tom Kenny (while dying)

An alternate sane and handsome version of the Ice King who's a beloved leader terrorized by the deranged Candy Queen.

  • Alternate Universe Reed Richards Is Awesome: He's the Ice King if he was smart, handsome and retained his sanity that the Crown took away, using his powers for good and opposing an insane evil version of PB. However, he once was like the main universe Ice King and managed to make himself into the "awesome" version by cursing PB to be driven to insanity by transferring the Crown's madness to her without the princess' consent.
  • Asshole Victim: His death is... unpleasant, to put it mildly, but it's hardly as if he didn't deserve it given what he did.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: He's handsome, sane, all-around a friendly guy to Fionna, Cake and Simon and greatly opposes the Candy Queen who is essentially a role-swapped insane Princess Bubblegum... Except he's responsible for everything wrong in the first place as he passed the insanity of the Crown's power to Bubblegum and had no remorse about how it affected her and her subjects for over a century.
  • Boy of My Dreams: He resembles the "Ice Prince" that kept showing up in Fionna's dreams, making her think of Winter King as her destined soulmate until she kills him by accident and she finds out what a terrible person he really was.
  • Dead Alternate Counterpart: After Fionna drains him of his magic, he turns to dust right in front of the Simon from the main timeline.
  • Evil Counterpart: The Winter King is initially introduced as a version of Simon who appears to have overcome the madness of the Ice Crown while keeping his powers and appears to have made a thriving Winter Kingdom while being constantly kidnapped by that universe's version of Princess Bubblegum, the insane Candy Queen, and her monstrous subjects. After his death, it's revealed that he never conquered his madness; instead, he transferred it to Princess Bubblegum, driving her insane, all while hiding his involvement and showing no remorse for the sorry state the curse has left her and her kingdom in. The Winter King also doesn't seem to show any care when reminded of Betty and tells Simon that he could just make an Ice Betty in her place, with the Ice Marceline in the Kingdom implying that he did it himself after something happened to the Marceline of his universe.
  • Fisher King: Much like the Winter King himself, the Winter Kingdom is different from the Ice Kingdom of the Prime Timeline; a bustling magical metropolis populated by elegant, intelligent ice elementals. When the curse breaks and the Winter King dies, everyone and everything in the Winter Kingdom melts into inanimate slush.
  • Ink-Suit Actor: Bears a heavy resemblance to his voice actor, Brian David Gilbert.
  • Jerkass to One: Despite being seemingly friendly to everyone, he's nothing but antagonistic to The Candy Queen, even though she's not really evil so much as just suffering from madness the same way Ice King did. His unwillingness to help her is a clue that he's actually the reason she's like this and is trying to keep her away for his own sake at her expense.
  • Loophole Abuse: He found a way to keep the Ice Crown's powers while maintaining his sanity—pass the madness onto someone else.
  • Mind Rape: He's revealed to have subjected Princess Bubblegum to this for hundreds of years by directly transmitting his madness into her, warping her into the Candy Queen. It's implied that Princess Bubblegum found this traumatic, as she bluntly tells Simon she's "trying not to dwell on it" when he keeps bringing up how the Winter King forcibly turned her into the Candy Queen.
  • New Powers as the Plot Demands: He demonstrates additional powers that are not directly connected to ice, such as charging Fionna's cellphone and enabling it to work across the multiverse. Oddly, this is the only spell that doesn't fade after the crown loses its magic.
  • No Immortal Inertia: The Winter King admits that he conquered the crown well over one hundred years ago, kept young and strong by its magic. Naturally, when Fionna's kiss accidentally removes that magic, the Winter King undergoes Rapid Aging and dissolves into dust.
  • No Ontological Inertia: He and everything he created with his ice magic, including the sentient ice people in his realm, are destroyed after Fionna accidentally removes his magic while kissing him.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: When Simon asks about his universe's version of Betty he is dismissive of her and rudely calls her "the dead one", which serves as one of the first hints that the Winter King is still affected by the crown's influence under his Mask of Sanity.
  • Other Me Annoys Me: His existence frustrates main timeline Simon because he seemingly got all of the benefits of the crown's magic with none of the drawbacks. It doesn't help that he boasts about breaking the crown's control through sheer force of will, begging the question of why Simon couldn't do the same. When he is revealed to be a sociopath who subjected Bonnibel to the madness of the crown in his place, Simon states that he feels vindicated about not ending up like him.
  • Prince Charmless: At first, Winter King looks like the perfect incarnation of the Prince Charming from Fionna's fantasy. That is until it becomes clear he lacks the OG Simon's empathy and only cares about himself. It's made worse when it's revealed he cursed Princess Bubblegum and made her insane, turning her into the Candy Queen, so he could enjoy the power of the crown without any ill effects for himself.
  • Reduced to Dust: Without the Ice Crown's magic, he loses his immortality and becomes a pile of dust in the matter of seconds.
  • Replacement Goldfish: The Winter King's domain includes an ice version of young Marceline, and he casually suggests that Simon should create an ice replica of Betty.
  • Screw Yourself: According to him, he's thought of kissing an alternate version of himself for a while, or probably as soon as he met the main timeline Simon.
  • Ship Tease: Fionna develops a crush on him and the Winter King seems to reciprocate, even reaching for a kiss when she wants one. Too bad for them that Fionna somehow makes the Crown lose its magic and hold over this Simon, causing him to quickly age into dust.
  • The Sociopath: He's not Simon having overcome his curse, but rather the Ice King without his madness. The result is a benevolent, yet Machiavellian individual who's kind to strangers, but callous compared to the tortured Simon of the Prime Timeline. He believes that creating ice-replicas of loved ones (like Betty and Marceline) is a fitting substitute for the real thing, and scoffs at the idea of helping the Candy Queen and her dystopian kingdom (especially because he's why it's in that state to begin with).
  • Vocal Dissonance: Unlike alternate universe versions of other characters The Winter King has a different voice from Simon and Ice King. After Fionna glitches the crown his voice reverts, implying that he had been altering his voice with magic.

    The Candy Queen
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/latest_328.jpeg
Voiced by: Hynden Walch

An alternate insane and monstrous version of Princess Bubblegum who terrorizes and kidnaps the Winter King on a regular basis.

  • The Assimilator: She plans to throw herself, Simon, and the Winter King into a blender to forcibly fuse their bodies together.
  • Ax-Crazy: She's a counterpart to the Ice King, after all, madness included. Her whole ploy is to blend herself with the Simons in a twisted declaration of love. Once the Winter King dies, she returns to normal.
  • Evil Counterpart: Is introduced as a crazy evil version of Princess Bubblegum, except she's only like that because the Winter King transferred his madness to her.
  • Evil Makes You Monstrous: The Candy Queen, the equivalent of Princess Bubblegum, is evil, and as a result, has a more monstrous and inhuman appearance. When the curse is lifted, it turns out the Candy Queen is Princess Bubblegum, and reverts back to her normal appearance.
  • Fangs Are Evil: Unlike Princess Bubblegum, she's Ax-Crazy and her fangs stick out.
  • Fisher King: The residents of her kingdom are similarly mutated and monstrous, likely due to experiments she performed on them.
  • Food-Based Superpowers: Like the OG Bubblegum, she has control over candy, to a much greater degree than the science-minded one ever had.
  • Good Princess, Evil Queen: As a deranged version of Princess Bubblegum, she instead uses the title of "Candy Queen". She reverts back to being Princess as she regains her sanity.
  • Mad Artist: Candy Queen writes her own songs and is a decent singer and keyboard player. Too bad the subject matter of her songs is very... disturbing...
  • More Deadly Than the Male: As dangerous as Ice King could be, he never actively wished to do harm to the princesses he kidnapped. Candy Queen, meanwhile, has zero qualms about putting the Winter King (plus Simon) into a blender with herself. The Winter King does note this is an escalation, though.
  • Psycho Pink: Her hair, skin, and clothes are pink like Princess Bubblegum, but Candy Queen is an insane Yandere who kidnaps and attempts to murder the Winter King because he passed his crown's curse to her.
  • Stalker Shrine: She has a wall covered with photos of the Winter King, showcasing her obsession with him.
  • Stalker with a Crush: She repeatedly kidnaps the Winter King to make him love her.
  • Uncanny Valley: She is drawn with large eyes, brightly colored irises, and no pupils in contrast to the show's usual art style, which serves to make her even more unnerving and foreshadows that she was secretly brainwashed the whole time.
  • Yandere: She's obsessed with the Winter King, believing they belong together. She kidnaps him on a regular basis and by the end, it escalates to trying to throw him into a giant blender.

Baby World

    In General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_2395_6.jpeg
A world where all of Ooo's residents are babies cared for by the Gumball Guardians.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: According to Word of God, this world was created when BMO wished that everyone was a baby. In return, he was turned into a non-sapient baby monitor.
  • The Cameo: The Lich, Lady Rainicorn, Ricardio and Magic Man appear as background extras in the episode to remark that, yes, everyone from Adventure Time is a baby here.
  • Spinoff Babies: Parodied. Everyone in this world (even Ricardio and The Lich) is a baby, being tended to by the Gumball Guardians.
  • Sugar Bowl: When compared to all of the other worlds, it's a rather sweet-hearted world with no conflict and pure cuteness. The trio even comment on how pleasant of a visit it was.

    Baby Finn
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_2386.png
Voiced by: Jeremy Shada

An infantile version of Finn who ends up stowing away in Fionna's backpack when she, Cake, and Simon head to the next world.

  • Improbable Infant Survival: He's left behind in the overturned Peppermint Tank halfway through "The Star" and is never seen or mentioned even after Fionna, Cake, and Simon jump to the next world, leaving his fate unknown. Fortunately, "Cheers" reveals him to still be alive, being brought to Fionna World alongside Pep Tank.
  • Little Stowaway: He ends up stowing away in Fionna's backpack when she isn't looking and is inadvertently taken with them to the Vampire World.
  • Sole Survivor: By the end of the episode, while Princess Bubblegum’s survival is left uncertain, Baby Finn is the only unambiguously surviving nonvampire of the Vampire World, being left behind inside the Peppermint Tank.

Vampire World

    In General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_2396_6.jpeg
A world where Simon died before ever meeting Marceline as a child, which resulted in her being raised by the Vampire King and helping him take over the land with the crown. Their only opposition is a resistance led by Bonnie, the alternate Princess Bubblegum.
  • After the End: Not only has this world been ravaged by the Mushroom War, but Bonnie makes clear that the vampires have driven most other species in Ooo to population collapse. This means that the vampires will soon run out of food to sustain themselves.
  • Hero Killer: The vampires managed to kill Billy at some point before Fionna, Cake, and Simon's arrival, with his body being used as part of a sign telling non-vampires to stay away from the nest.
  • Villain World: One where the Vampire King conquered the post-apocalyptic world after the Mushroom War.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: The Fool, Empress, Hierophant, and Moon are nowhere to be found in this universe, with the only explanations being that they were either killed at some point by Bonnie's crew or by the Star to possess their powers for herself.
  • White and Red and Eerie All Over: The wine-red hue of the clouds that permeate this world is juxtaposed with the pale white of the vampire hive, conveying a sense of disturbance.

    The Star
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_2293.png
Voiced by: Olivia Olson

A version of Marceline who is gleefully cruel and murderous to all but her "dad" the Vampire King, including the other vampires.

  • Action Fashionista: A villainous example, as she fights while wearing ornate dresses.
  • Bad Boss: She joyfully poofs her own servants just for saying something that irks her, and scares another into poofing themselves.
  • Cosmic Motifs: She's nicknamed "The Star" and her second outfit has a star necklace.
  • Daddy's Little Villain: Having been adopted by the Vampire King instead of Simon, this Marceline was raised to become a merciless and bloodthirsty killer.
  • Elegant Gothic Lolita: She wears Gothic Lolita-inspired outfits.
  • Evil Counterpart: Compared to prime Marceline, "The Star" is a version of Marceline if she was never raised by Simon and was instead raised by the Vampire King. Because of this, she doesn't have the same moral compass that prime Marceline has and grew into a cruel Vampire who killed her own minions.
  • Hidden Depths: Her expression when Bonnie points out that the vampires are running out of food seems to indicate she might have more understanding of the implications of their current unsustainable lifestyle than one would expect from a spoiled Psychopathic Womanchild vampire princess.
  • High Collar of Doom: Her second outfit has a red coat with a high collar.
  • Psychopathic Womanchild: She acts much more like a loud, bratty kid than the normal Marceline, lacking any of her "chill".
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: Her second outfit is black with a blood red long coat and shoes.
  • Tarot Motifs: Upright, the Star represents hope, faith, purpose, renewal, and spirituality. Pretty fitting for the main universe Marceline who thanks to Simon’s influence grew up to be humanity's protector from the vampire threat. Inverted, it represents lack of faith, despair, self-trust, and disconnection. The Marceline of this universe didn't have Simon in her life to help steer her on the right path and instead was raised and corrupted by the Vampire King into his second-in-command, helping to turn Ooo into a vampire-dominated nightmare with the human population having no one other than Bonnie's crew to protect them, and even that ends up not lasting for very long.
  • Theme Naming: The Star is another tarot card, matching the names of the other vampires from Stakes.
  • Uncertain Doom: By the end of the episode, she and Bonnie fall to their deaths while confronting each other. It's unclear if she survives or not.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: She was an innocent little girl trying to survive the aftermath of the Mushroom War, but then the Vampire King adopted her and trained her to make her a vicious killer.
  • Villainous Crush: It's implied she feels something for Bonnie, with the way she acts a bit flirty with her and gets annoyed when her minions talk bad about her and suggest she should just kill her already. Not that it stops them from being proper enemies.

    The Vampire King
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vampire_king_vampireworld.png

Voiced by: Billy Brown

A version of the Vampire King who found the Ice Crown after Simon's death and used it to create clouds to blot out the sun, allowing his vampires to hunt 24/7.

  • The Corrupter: He's the reason the Marceline of this universe is much more villainous than her main counterpart.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: He effortlessly defeats and kills Huntress without so much as a scratch.
  • Didn't Think This Through: As Bonnie points out, he and his fellow vampires' overhunting of humans means they no longer have a sustainable food source, which does not bode well for his species' survival.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Although he helped orchestrate the near-extinction of most non-vampire life on Earth, he seems to genuinely care about his adoptive daughter, Marceline.
  • Evil Counterpart: Compared to the Vampire King from the original timeline who eventually saw the errors of his ways after he was revived and cared a little about animals, this version was shown to still be a cruel king who drove the human race to near-extinction and almost killed Cake while taunting her in addition to not showing much concern for how his destructive ways are going to drive the vampires extinct, whereas his main counterpart was much more thoughtful. This version is also one to Simon due to him being the one to raise Marceline instead, showing how much of a worse person she would have been if Simon hadn't raised her.
  • Evil Mentor: He took Marceline under his wing and personally trained her, turning her into his most powerful and dangerous minion.
  • No-Sell: The crown's madness seems to have no effect on him whatsoever despite wearing it constantly. It probably helps that he just uses it to create clouds to blot out the sun, but still. It's implied that because he's already so magically powerful the crown's magic is second to his own.
  • With Great Power Comes Great Insanity : Although it appears that the Vampire King does not suffer the side effects of Forced Transformation from using the crown's magic, it appears that the effect of Sanity Slippage is still in effect to the extent that the Vampire King let the vampire population grow uncontrollably while they excessively hunted their prey. until almost extinct.

    Bonnie
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bonnie_vampire_world.png
Voiced by: Hynden Walch

The leader of the only resistance to the rule of the Vampire King and the Star.

  • Boyish Short Hair: Bonnie wears her gum hair in a military flattop as part of her militaristic look.
  • Eyepatch of Power: The Star took one of Bonnie's eyes, so she wears an eyepatch.
  • It's Personal with the Dragon: Her crew's main enemy is the Vampire King, but she has a personal grudge against The Star for taking her right eye.
  • Pragmatic Hero: Bonnie is very pragmatic, perhaps to a fault. She only stops to help Fionna, Cake, and Simon because she thinks Cake's powers could be of use to her, and only tolerates the others.
  • Rebel Leader: She leads the La Résistance fighting against the vampires to protect the remaining humans.
  • Uncertain Doom: By the end of the episode, Bonnie and Marceline are falling to their deaths while confronting each other. It's unclear if Bonnie survives or not. In the finale, Pep Tank and Baby Finn are both fine with escaping to Fionna's world, but Bonnie is not seen or mentioned.

    Huntress
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/huntress_human.png
Voiced by: Jenny Slate

A human version of Huntress Wizard.

  • Adaptation Species Change: Huntress is a human version of Huntress Wizard, and as such possesses Hunter's skin and hair.
  • Human Pincushion: Huntress dies this way, being impaled by her own arrows in a worthless attempt to kill the Vampire King.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: She dies less than ten minutes after her introduction and without much characterization.

    Martin Mertens
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/martin_mertens_vampireworld.png
Voiced by: Stephen Root

A genuinely good version of Martin Mertens.

  • Adaptational Nice Guy: This Martin is a genuinely well-intentioned person fighting for the greater good and is nothing but nice and helpful to Fionna, Cake, and Simon. The fact that he did not suffer the serious head injury his alternate self did most likely helps.
  • Deader than Dead: Martin gets his soul sucked out, and then Marceline kills his body.
  • Doppelgänger Gets Same Sentiment: A rather unusual take on it. Martin almost instantly takes a shine to Baby World Finn, an alternate version of his son who doesn't seem to exist in the timeline he's in.
  • Good Counterpart: Similarly to his Farmworld equivalent, this Martin is the only other Martin variant we've seen and is a far, far better person than the main universe Martin. For added irony, he takes on a caretaking role for the crew, is their chef, and seems to have an interest in taking in Baby World Finn, whereas the main Martin is well known for being a horrid father whose interests are entirely focused on himself.
  • Irony: This Martin seems like he would've been a better father to Finn, but nothing suggests he ever had him. While it briefly seems like he's willing to take in Baby World Finn, he's killed by Marceline before he gets the chance.
  • Sacrificial Lamb: Martin is killed by Marceline as part of her introduction.
  • Team Chef: Martin cooks for the group and for their "guests".

    Simon Petrikov
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_92_4.png
A version of Simon who was killed by vampires before meeting Marceline.
  • Dead Alternate Counterpart: This version of Simon was killed by vampires before he could meet Marceline, which led to her instead being found by the Vampire King and raised into his most powerful minion.
  • Posthumous Character: He died over a thousand years before Fionna, Cake, and the main universe Simon's arrival, with his remains being skeletonized by that point.

    Billy
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_90_4.png
A version of Billy who was killed by the vampires.
  • Ambiguous Situation: Were the vampires the ones who fashioned his corpse into a warning sign? Or did Billy himself do it using the strength he had left?
  • Dead Guy on Display: His corpse has been fashioned into a sign telling non-vampires to stay away from the nest.
  • Dying Moment of Awesome: Implied. While he was killed by the vampires, his body is chockfull of bites in basically every body part you can think of and he's shown to still retain his sitting position in his old age, implying the vampires didn't get him until he was older and he still put up a fierce fight against the horde and took his time to finally go down to their assaults.
  • Failure Hero: Despite his strength and fighting prowess, even he was unable to stop the vampires.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: The fact that Billy still managed to reach old age despite the world being infested with blood thirsty vampires means that he actually fought them off for hundreds of years and only lost due to his old age.
  • Posthumous Character: He's been dead for some time before Fionna, Cake, and Simon's arrival.
  • The Worf Effect: The fact that they managed to kill Billy shows just how powerful and numerous the vampires have become by this point.
  • Worf Had the Flu: He appears to have been killed by repeated bites in his old age, which meant he was not in the best shape when he finally went down.

Extinct World

    In General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_2397.png
A world that's a barren, lifeless wasteland.
  • After the End: Played far straighter than the show's main setting and the Vampire World, with Ooo being completely devoid of life and left a barren, decaying world.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: Revealed to be a timeline where the Lich (circa. "Finn the Human") successfully destroyed all life.
  • Everybody's Dead, Dave: This is a version of Ooo where everyone is killed, save for BMO and "Jerry". BMO ends up biting it by the end of "Jerry" and the Lich is destroyed in "Casper and Nova", leaving this universe truly and completely dead.
  • Nothing Is Scarier: It's never directly stated what caused the end of the world in this universe, with the only hint being the Ice King and Gunter being seen reduced to skeletons in their tapes. Even then, it's depicted as literally instantaneous, with no warning and no after-effect that indicates what killed them. It's heavily implied that this is the wish universe created when the Lich wished for the extermination of all life in "Finn the Human".
  • Surprisingly Sudden Death: One second, Ice King and Gunter are messing around on one of Ice King's tapes. The next, they're suddenly skeletons with no fanfare.

    "Jerry" (SPOILERS
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_lunch.png
"Ice wizard... So, you have risen again. (chuckles) In the olden days, I would've rewarded your insolence with death a thousandfold."
Voiced by: Ron Perlman

A version of the Lich who succeeded in his goal of destroying all life, but is now a shell of his former self completely devoid of purpose.

  • All for Nothing: His mission to destroy all life on Ooo? Just a ploy to get the attention of GOLB, who seemingly never wanted it in the first place and zaps him into a polygon for his trouble.
  • And I Must Scream: After reaching GOLB, he cries out in fury to what he must do to earn their approval. In response, GOLB rips the Lich's body apart, apart from his skull, and transforms his skeletal form into one of the geometric shapes orbiting GOLB, entombing the still screaming Lich head inside for all eternity.
  • And Then What?: After fulfilling his purpose of destroying all life, the Lich has long since fallen into a depressive state and has no idea what do with himself anymore. Seeing the heroic trio does raise his interest, telling Simon that he would have "rewarded [his] insolence with death a thousandfold" in olden days, but can't be bothered to actually do anything and lets them go.
  • Asshole Victim: Downplayed. While he's a rather pitiable being and his final fate of being turned into a block by GOLB is horrific, he's also another version of the same Lich who's had the demented and sadistic desire of destroying all life and only really turned less bad as a result of finding himself without a purpose after achieving his goal in his universe, so it's hard to say he didn't have his final fate coming.
  • Atop a Mountain of Corpses: He's found sitting on top of a huge mound of bones, flanked by the leg bones of an unidentified giant creature. It's evocative of a grisly throne. By the look of things, he's been sitting there for a long time.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: This universe is a direct result of the Lich succeeding in destroying all life. Unfortunately for the Lich, it left him without a purpose.
  • Bait-and-Switch: When the trio encounters the Lich, it seems as though he's going to attempt to kill them, only to leave them be.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: When The Lich reached Prismo for the first time, he wished for the end of all life in existence with Finn's wish immediately afterwards being to wish that the Lich never existed and created the Farmworld universe where The Lich still came into existence in the form of Farmworld Jake. Jake then uses his wish to change The Lich's wish to just send him and Finn home which doesn't get rid of Farmworld due to a time paradox. Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake finally shows the universe that the Lich wished for where everything is dead except for BMO, who is a robot and dies later in the episode, and himself, who BMO calls by the name "Jerry" with him doing nothing while in a state of depression as his goal has been achieved. He's so unmotivated he even lets Simon, Fionna and Cake go free after coming into his abode.
  • Being Evil Sucks: Fionna and Cake reveals that in the universe where he succeeded in wiping out all life, the Lich is left crippled with ennui and depression. Despite his dedication to his omnicidal goals, none of it will bring him any happiness even if he accomplishes his goal.
  • Body Horror: Time has taken a clear toll on Billy's corpse, decaying enough that his limbs all expose the Lich's skeleton. His face is sagging off, and his remaining, shriveled eye hangs loosely from its socket.
  • Cerebus Call-Back: His inability to motivate himself after succeeding in his goal gels with his similar Villainous BSoD in "Wake Up", where—deprived of the ability to kill—the Lich enters a standstill, "like a machine without a purpose." The difference is, back then, the Lich still had a reason to live (and kill); his standstill is less lack of motivation and more him biding his time, seen when he snaps back to life upon seeing an opportunity to kill Prismo. This Lich's standstill goes far deeper; now the Lich suffers from genuine existential ennui, and can't even find the energy to kill Simon and co. when he has them dead to rights.
  • Compelling Voice: Uses it when Simon, Fionna, and Cake try to run from his chamber. "Cease."
  • Crisis of Faith: After completing his mission of exterminating all life in the universe, he found neither a sense of personal fulfillment or praise from the god to whom he dedicated his entire existence. As a result, he fell into an almost comatose depression. When given the opportunity to confront GOLB face-to-face, he goes on a furious, unhinged rant about why he was not rewarded for his utter devotion and sacrifice.
  • Dramatically Missing the Point: He believes that GOLB is an intelligent God of Evil that desires the destruction of all life and will reward him for doing its bidding. In reality, GOLB is a mindless force of chaos that doesn't really desire anything and responds to The Lich begging it for answers by inflicting eternal torture on him.
  • Evil Counterpart: Bizarrely, Fionna & Cake makes him one to two characters:
    • Billy: Both were legendary figures in the world of Ooo for well over a century and have reached a point where they feel aimless and depressed over the seeming futility of their goals' full extent. However, Billy reached a depression as a result of feeling the fight against evil was pointless since even if he beat every bad guy he knew, others rose up to take their place; while the Lich outright succeeded at his goal of ending all life but has no idea what to do after since the act didn't bring him any satisfaction. Finally, both are changed by a chance encounter with a group of adventurers who discover they aren't motivated to do anything more. But, while Billy is broken out of his funk by Finn and Jake proving that fighting evil is still an act that can bring good to the land and finds new meaning to his life from that point forth, while the Lich rages against GOLB for ignoring him despite achieving the purpose he thought GOLB wanted and ends up suffering A Fate Worse Than Death for his troubles.
    • Simon Petrikov: Both have a connection to GOLB and have succumbed to crippling depression and ennui after losing their purpose in life. Simon goes as far as to say he can relate when he realizes why the Lich is acting strangely. However, where Simon seeks GOLB to be reunited with his Lost Lenore, and eventually comes to terms with his sense of loss after some prodding, the Lich views GOLB as a god of destruction to be worshipped and appeased, and reacts poorly when he fails to understand why his deity is ignoring him.
  • Ex-Big Bad: Once the franchise's main antagonist and the Arch-Enemy of Finn and Jake themselves, the Lich has been reduced to an Empty Shell of his former self who is too demoralized to even bother killing the heroes.
  • Facial Horror: Time has clearly not done wonders on his former Billy disguise, as the skin is blotchier and the eyeball is hanging out of the socket, making him look even more horrifying than he already was.
  • Fan Disservice: In this form, Billy's hide is not only completely naked (Thankfully with a Barbie Doll Anatomy), but also horribly decayed, exposing the Lich's bones underneath even more. When he's on his knees as he prays to GOLB, we catch a glimpse of his butt. Eugh.
  • Forced Transformation: His ultimate fate. When he comes before GOLB and demands to know why fulfilling his purpose didn't bring him any satisfaction, GOLB responds by forcibly (and painfully) turning him into one of the puzzle pieces that orbit him.
  • Hero Killer: He managed to kill every single heroic force in Ooo (Billy, Finn and Jake, the Candy Kingdom, Marceline, Ice King and various other magical beings and allies of Finn with the sole exception of BMO who's a machine) and for all purposes rules the world unopposed.
  • Karma Houdini Warranty: He succeeded at killing all life (Finn and Jake included) and had previously terrorized the world many times over, yet after his wish was granted he was left all alone and without a purpose which managed to break him. Then he goes over to GOLB (who's merged with Betty) ranting about how he devoted his existence to appealing to its teachings and gets turned into a block orbiting around the entity for eternity.
  • Meaningless Villain Victory: Despite having won and destroyed all life, the Lich feels no satisfaction, being unable to function if he isn't working towards that goal.
  • Naked Nutter: During his Villainous Breakdown amidst his Rage Against the Heavens moment, he tears away Billy's remaining body as he screams for GOLB to answer him. While Billy's body was already naked due to its clothing having rotted away long ago, disposing of even this still conveys the vulnerability, desperation, helplessness (and repulsiveness) associated with the 'naked-madman-screams-into-the-void' archetype.
  • Not Worth Killing: Due to his ennui/depression, the Lich can't even muster the urge to kill Simon, Fionna, and Cake, since it would just result in the universe being dead again.
  • Odd Friendship: If BMO's to be believed, he and the Lich managed to form something of a friendship as the last two beings in Ooo. Although it's just as likely that BMO is talking one-sidedly to an inanimate Lich.
  • Pyrrhic Victory: He achieved his goal of a universe devoid of life... and as a result, loses his sense of purpose and slumps into a depression.
  • Rage Against the Heavens: After succeeding in wiping out all life in GOLB's honor, he goes through this when he realizes GOLB, either way, doesn't give a shit about him. His desperate praying and furious raving actually does get GOLB's attention, who rewards his anger by transmogrifying him into a tetromino.
  • Retired Monster: This Lich, now without a purpose, has more or less given up his villainous ways; not even able to muster the motivation to kill Fionna, Cake, and Simon.
  • Tom the Dark Lord: BMO's name for the Lich, an omnicidal warlock who worships a God of Chaos and killed everyone in the universe, is... Jerry. Probably because BMO has never met the Lich before and made up a name.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: The Lich is nowhere near the monster he was before eradicating all life, choosing to spare Fionna, Cake, and Simon when he was once defined by his desire to kill everything and seemingly formed a friendship with BMO. Although this is more of a downplayed example, since it's less a case of the Lich developing a conscience and more him just losing all motivation to do evil.
  • Villainous Breakdown: One of the only times the Lich has ever gotten truly desperately angry is when he actually confronts GOLB in person, screaming at his god about what he must do to appease them if the extinction of all life in GOLB's name, and losing all sense of purpose in the process, was not enough.
Lich: No, no, NO! Answer me! What more could I have done?! WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME NOW?!
  • Wanting Is Better Than Having: While the Lich was defined by his single-minded goal of destroying all life, once he actually succeeds, he's completely depressed due to no longer having a purpose in life.

    The Ice King
Voiced by: Tom Kenny
A version of the Ice King whose abandoned tapes leave a clue to what happened to this world.
  • Apocalyptic Log: His tapes, albeit accidentally, with the Ice King (and Fionna and Cake for that matter) not knowing that he would be instantly reduced to a skeleton as a result of the Lich's wish to end all life. As a result, they capture his and Gunter's last moments.
  • Call-Back: In one of the tapes, the Ice King sings a bad parody of "Everything Stays" involving bagels and cream cheese.
  • Dead Alternate Counterpart: This version of Ice King died when the Lich turned all people of his universe into skeletons.
  • Posthumous Character: He's long dead, with even the Ice Kingdom having melted away.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: We only see him through his tapes, but they leave two key plot points in "Jerry": first, his split-second death gives a clue as to what made the world so dead, and second, he says where he left his crown, which Fionna finds and later uses to help her and Cake get back to their world and for Simon to become the Ice King.
  • Surprisingly Sudden Death: At the end of the tapes, Ice King and Gunter die and instantly turn into skeletons. It's so sudden that not Fionna, Cake, or even the viewer (unless you were paying very close attention) would notice what happened, as he dies in a single frame and the tapes go to static the frame after.

    BMO
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_2389.png
Voiced by: Niki Yang
A version of BMO who is the only other surviving being in Ooo.
  • Accidental Misnaming: Refers to Fionna as "Finn", which isn't exactly wrong, but is also evidence of BMO's deteriorating mental state.
  • Ambiguous Situation: While there's nothing to contradict his statement of being friends with "Jerry" the Lich doesn't show any signs that he knows or cares about BMO's presence, making it ambiguous if they actually became friends or BMO grew desperate enough for company after everyone died that an inanimate Lich was enough for him to pretend he still had companionship.
  • Dead Alternate Counterpart: This version of BMO ends up dead after failing to charge Prismo's remote.
  • Deader than Dead: He blows himself up trying to power Prismo's remote with his own power source, then his remains are accidentally turned into a radio clock by Cake.
  • Did We Just Have Tea with Cthulhu?: Implied. If BMO's to believed and he and "Jerry" are actually friends, then he managed to befriend the greatest evil that Ooo had ever faced.
  • Go Mad from the Isolation: Being the only sentient being in Ooo did not do BMO any favors. He is in denial that his friends are long dead, despite seeing everyone turn into skeletons. He does make one friend named "Jerry" who turns out to be the Lich, who, even if BMO doesn't know is directly responsible for the world's end, still isn't someone a sane person should consider a friend.
  • Metaphorically True: He believes that Finn and Jake simply "left" instead of dying. While this is more BMO denying reality than anything, if this world's Finn and Jake are the same ones who followed the Lich into the Time Room "Finn the Human", then BMO isn't wrong: they aren't dead, they just happen to be in a different universe.
  • Oh, Crap!: BMO says "whoops" right before his attempt at charging the remote fatally fails.
  • Sanity Slippage: While BMO always had an overactive imagination to the point of being out of touch with reality, it's clear that Ooo's destruction has done a number on him. Not only does he claim that the clearly dead Finn and Jake simply "left", he assumes the role of Princess Bubblegum while having a conversation with himself.
  • Senseless Sacrifice: He attempts to use his heart to power Prismo's remote. Not only does this end up killing BMO, but he fails to charge its magic.
  • Sole Survivor: He's the only resident of Ooo left, being unaffected by the Lich's wish to destroy all life due to his status as a robot making him technically non-living.
  • Too Good for This Sinful Earth: Deemed as this by Simon after BMO inadvertently kills himself trying and failing to repower Prismo's remote with his own power source despite having only known the trio for at most a few hours.
Simon: BMO chose to make the ultimate sacrifice for people he barely knew. It didn't work, but that made it no less noble. Farewell, you little miracle.
