    In General

The many teachers that make up Babyls Demon School.

  • Adaptational Early Appearance: A lot of the teachers make cameos as early as Episode 1 of the anime compared to where they first start popping up in the manga.
  • Arc Villain: They act out this role dressing up as a group of villains for the Heartbreaker Promotion Exam arc in order to battle it out against the 39 specific students (the 13 second-year Misfits, and 26 chosen first-years) that they believe deserve a special test. The goal being to see what the students are capable of, and if they deserve demon Rank Ups based on how the students perform during said exam.
  • Authority Equals Asskicking: As teachers of young demons, they too must be strong enough to handle any problem students. Students need to be at least at rank 4, Daleth, to graduate, which means each teacher is at least that strong. Most of the teachers are rank 7 (apparently the minimum to become one), two teachers are rank 8, while Sullivan is a candidate for Demon King and rank 9.
  • Badass Teacher:
    • Every once in a while, the teachers show that they are fully capable of and willing to attack and subdue other demons, even decently strong ones, if they are threatening either the stability of the school or the students themselves. For all of Sullivan's eccentricities, he has done a good job finding the best teachers he could for protecting and nurturing the future generation of demonkind.
    • During Iruma's First Year Battler Party when Sullivan arrives to put Kiriwo into custody, Kalego, Suzy, Robin, Raim, and Momonoki each call on their unique magic and skills while surrounding the criminal ready to attack if the demon continues to fight.
  • Badass Creed: Dali Dantalion notes to Robin during a Teacher's Banquet after the Harvest Festival that each student of Babyls is a treasure to the Underworld, and their duties as teachers involve protecting that treasure. He then leads nearly every teacher present in the old teacher's motto:
"We pledge our lives to protect our students above all, from the dreadful enemies that aim for the treasure. So, to education."
  • Break the Haughty: The teachers take pleasure in doing this en masse to the Misfit Class. The purpose of their second year Rank Promotion exam isn't just to test their abilities, but take the whole class down some notches because the students have been acting haughty and arrogant since their meteoric ascendance in their first year. So, the teachers see it as their duty to "teach those victory-drunk heroes the taste of crushing defeat." They have mixed results ultimately.
  • Chekhov's Gag: The teachers calling their students their "treasure" first appears to be a gag for their creed. However, at the start of Iruma's second year, the students of the Misfit Class are being given a special test to protect their treasure, the first year students. Twenty-six First Years have been selected and the Misfit must defend them from a teacher as part of their Rank Evaluation Test.
  • A Day in the Limelight:
    • Every once in awhile, the teachers will get a chapter mostly for themselves. The prime examples being chapters 145, 208 and 270. 145 has the teachers celebrating with a banquet for their success running the Harvest Festival. 208 is Iruma being provided a tour of the school dorm that was provided for the teachers. And 270 shows off the teachers' reaction following what went down during the Heartbreaker exam.
    • The Heartbreaker Promotion Exam Arc is set up as a battle between students and teachers, which provides standout moments for some of said teachers. Some notable teacher limelight include the following:
      • Suzy gets to show off her plant abilities in her duel against Team Clara.
      • Eito gets to show off his Ifrit fire abilities in his 1-on-1 duel against Azz.
      • Momonoki gets to show off what she's capable of as a user of all types of magic taking on Team Kamui, Team Kerori, Team Elizabetta, and Azz's first-year teammates all at once during the Operation S.O.S plan.
      • March gets to show against Jazz why he's known as the torture teacher.
      • Ipos gets a brief fight against Atori where he show off his abilities for the first time.
      • Murmur gets one in chapters 272 and 273 which are flashbacks to the exam after the test has already ended. He is facing off against Gaap's team. It serves as the introduction to his bloodline magic (which incidentally explains why he is one of the two involved in Shiida's interrogation, the other naturally being Balam).
  • Deadly Euphemism: They intend to thoroughly "educate" anyone that dares to threaten their students.
  • Domino Mask: The teachers participating in the Misfit Class 2nd Year Rank Evaluation don half versions of these as part of their costumes. It's theorized by one of the Misfits that they also served as Power Limiters, a theory that seems rather likely considering each teacher who faces Atori takes the time to remove their masks, as does Murmur when faced with counteracting the effect Gaap's Nightmare Face had on him and Gaap's underclassmen.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • They might be demons who enjoy fighting and torment, but during the Heartbreaker Competition when the cameras find March torturing Jazz with excurciating implements the broadcast team switches away citing "We Are Experiencing Technical Difficulties".
    • There are times when some teachers will consider one of their colleagues is pushing their students too harshly, though they don't stop the teacher either. Mononoki, Orais, and March give a moment of silence upon seeing Opera's teaching schedule for the Misfit class as their substitute teacher.
  • No-Nonsense Nemesis:
    • When it comes to protecting their students, they will respond accordingly and fiercely. Upon realizing Atori has gone back to origins and is a serious threat to all students, Dali authorizes all teachers to hunt the demon down using bloodline magics and their advanced techniques with the students' safety a priority.
    • Played for laughs in the Heartbreaker Competition after Ipos and Orias save team Allocer and Team Jazz from Atori and the villain is gone. Orias turns to the saved students and pops their balloons both to knock them out of the competition, which is still on going, and to move them to a secure location.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure:
    • If a teacher enters their Wicked Phase, they will be excused from teaching to work off their energy and a substitute will take over their classes for the time being.
    • After Iruma's First Year Battler Party, the teachers judge the Battler most worthy of the grand prize to be the Broadcast Battler. Not only were they steadfastly dedicated to broadcasting the updates, when Kiriwo's attack happened, they used their platform to quell fear, helped Kalego's ruse that this is some secret game set up by two other battler's, and continued to try and make contact with the outside. It couldn't be Iruma's because his own member caused the attack in the first place. However, because of Iruma's efforts the teachers make a fourth award and grant it to Iruma's Battler, and allow one member to rise in rank.
    • They take the attack on Ameri and her personality change seriously and try to help the girl recover, but also acknowledge that her situation doesn't give the Student Council a pass. If they fail to meet their duties and standards, the teachers won't shield them from the student's displeasure if they rebel against the Student Council.
    • While they recognize the achievements of the Misfit Class with the Walter Park Incident as great and they have earned the right to use the previous Demon King's classroom, they further note this has set higher expectations for the Misfit Class. Kalego tells the class at the start of the second semester if anyone fails to reach rank 4 by the by the start of their second year the whole class will be forced to leave the Royal One. However, they are also assigning specific tutors for the class to help them achieve this goal.
    • In Iruma's second year, the teachers recognize that judging the Misfit Class to the normal curriculum and the standard Rank Evaluation Test is not the optimal way to assess the Misfits as each one is already Rank 4 Daleth and most second years are still trying to reach that. So, they devise a new test just for the Misfits where they must protect twenty-six first years from attacks by the teachers. Besides a unique manner to test these thirteen excellent students, the teachers also seek to crush their dangerous pride before it becomes a danger to their students.
  • Rules of the Game: They have some rules for their side of the Heartbreaker Competition.
    1. They are to stay on their patrol path and not veer from it.
    2. If they witness a teacher fighting the student team, don't intercede.note
    3. While not as strict on the others, try to pop only one balloon at a time, allowing the students some chance to fight back or flee.
  • The Show Must Go On: If an event for the students is going on, the teachers will make sure it maintains itself even if other catastrophies are happening.
    • In Iruma's First Year Battler Party, the teachers claim the mysterious barriers that popped up are a surprise game set up by two other divisions working together to allay fears and panic. They also quietly capture Kirio without ever revealing to the students they were seconds away from being killed in a terrorist attack.
    • During the Heartbreaker Competition in Iruma's second year the fact Atori has gone rogue and is hunting the Misfits looking for Iruma isn't ever allowed on the cameras. The teachers move quickly to defend the students from harm, but once the danger is gone, they return to immediately hunting the balloons. Four balloons of the remaining few were lost because of students not understanding the truce will stop the moment the danger is gone.
  • Taught by Experience: If a mistake or problem occurs once, the teachers will learn from their mistakes and aim to not fail again. During Iruma's first year at the Battler Party his battler made something which combined with other magitools could be turned into a bomb capable of leveling the school and all those trapped inside, so during Iruma's second year Kalego and Murmur are checking every Batter's presentation and must grant approval for the Batter's presentation weeks in advanced. This also allows adequate time for any plans to be adjusted and rechecked.
  • Telepathy: Each teacher is shown to have access to this magic, making for quick and direct communications during the Battler Party Crisis.

    Principal/Chair-Demon Sullivan
The absolute authority of the demon school Babyls. His words are law and the teachers follow his commands and desires, even if they personally dislike his attitude. See his section on the Others page for more about him.

Click here to see his form as Iruma's familiar

A strict and powerful teacher who takes his job very seriously, and is the second-in-command at Babyls after Principal Sullivan. Kalego greatly dislikes troublemakers and annoying people, and is put in charge of teaching the Misfit Class. Much to his displeasure, Kalego ended up becoming Iruma's summonable familiar due to a technicality where because Iruma's a human, his familiar contracts works with demons instead of beasts.

  • All for Nothing: For all his efforts in the 13 Hours arc, he ends up becoming Iruma's familiar again after being freed because he performed the Summoning Ritual once more for Iruma without knowing that, since Iruma's a human, he can reestablish a contract with a demon whose contract is broken so long as said demon is close by.
  • Affectionate Gesture to the Head: He is capable of showing genuine respect and appreciation in his own way, albeit seriously subdued. One way he might do so is lightly tapping people on the head with a riding crop. It doesn't seem like much, but to people like Iruma and Soi following their success and Rank Up during the Music Festival, it's the greatest praise one could expect from a gruffly aloof guy like Kalego.
  • Always Someone Better: Ran into this when meeting Opera for the first time. Because Opera continued to dominate him for years as the stronger demon, and weaker demons should follow the stronger ones, Kalego is now terrified of them to this day.
  • Animal Motif: Dogs. His familiar is a cerberus and in the gaiden chapter showing his first days at Babyls, we see that his clan are self-proclaimed guard dogs of the Demon Realm. Now remember that his Sitcom Arch-Nemesis Opera is themed after a cat...
  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: This is why he supervises the familiar summonings. If the student can't control their familiar and it becomes a danger to themselves or others, Kalego's Cerberus will quickly assert dominance over the rogue familiar.
  • Badass Boast: When Dali asks him if he and Balam can eliminate the remaining eight teams with a total of eleven hearts Kalego declares on behalf of both of them "Child's play. We'll end this quickly."
  • Barrier Warrior: He is capable of generating powerful electrical barriers around himself or others, as well as a stone cage shaped like a dog's claw that can cover his wards.
  • Berserk Button: Granted it doesn't take much for him to lose his temper, but the thought of anyone questioning his teaching methods will send him into a rage. As when Purson's father wanted him to drop out of school thinking he wasn't getting a good enough education, he commands Kalego make his son leave the contest. Kalego is so furious, Dali quickly intercedes to grab the phone away from Kalego to keep Kalego from saying something bad to the parent.
  • Blood Magic: Kalego eventually reveals that Cerberus is actually a being of pure mana infused with Naberius blood that all members of the Naberius Clan have to bring to heel starting from the moment they become old enough to see it. He notes specifically that it's different than regular Bloodline Magic in general.
  • Butt-Monkey: He goes through a bit of torment, including being stuck as Iruma's familiar.
  • Caught Monologuing: The reason he failed to pop Azz's last balloon (and thus, the reason Azz survived the Heartbreaker at all) is because he sat down to give Azz a lecture before attacking, and thus was summoned by Iruma mere seconds before he could go through with the act. If he had waited until after eliminating team Asmodeus to begin lecturing, the Heartbreaker would have had a very different outcome.
  • Character Catchphrase: He has a habit of yelling "Silence!" at his students whenever they're acting loud and rambunctious, which, considering he teaches the "Misfit" Class, happens much more often than he would like. It's later revealed through both his personal spinoff and a flashback in Season 2 that he actually developed this catchphrase during his years as a Babyls student, since the lack of a student council at the time meant "loud and rambunctious" was the default status of demon students.
  • The Chew Toy: If anything can go wrong for him, it will go wrong in as amusing a manner as possible. Iruma is (accidentally) his main nemesis, but pretty much any time a teacher or student's wacky antics inconvenience someone, that someone will be Kalego.
  • The Comically Serious: He always portrays himself as a serious Stern Teacher. Too bad he's in a zany comedy, and his familiar form is incredibly adorable.
  • Combat Pragmatist: He fully admits he will fight dirty to win a fight. During the "13 Hours Arc" he uses Iruma as a shield and distraction when Azz is attacking him forcing Azz to stop his attack and allowing Kalego the opening to take him down.
  • Cursed with Awesome: The way Kalego describes the Blood Magic that is Cerberus makes it sound very much like a curse that was cast upon his bloodline, but his family instead leveraged it as a way to keep themselves strong, resilient, and disciplined while also gaining the forced subservience of a powerful beast.
  • A Day in the Limelight:
    • Chapter 68 focuses on Kalego needing to pay home visits to each of his Misfit students.
    • The 13 Hours mini-arc (Chapters 217-219) centers around Kalego spending the day watching over Iruma to try to keep his familiar contract from being renewed for a second year. The arc also delves into his connection with Cerberus.
  • Delayed "Oh, Crap!": After he was summoned as Iruma's familiar, he examines his new form for a few seconds before collapsing in shock.
  • Determinator: During the 13 Hours Arc, Kalego, determined to end his contract with Iruma now that the year is up, does everything in his power to ensure that the contract is broken, even if it means he hangs by Iruma's side for the entire day fighting off students who wish to see him as his Familiar again or even fight Opera if he has to.
  • Death Glare: Eiko ended up in the infirmary for three hours just by looking at Kalego in the eyes when she approaches him in hopes of getting closer to Iruma. Unfortunately, he is in a bad mood and his glare is even more intesne than usual. Hell, even fellow teacher Marbas is afraid of him because of this!
  • The Dreaded:
    • His position, loyalty, intelligence, and power make him a demon to be feared and avoided for anyone intending to cause trouble at Bablys, and his notoriously short temper doesn't help.
    • During the Heartbreaker Competition, upon seeing him approach Teams Elizabetta and Kerori the First Years are terrified. Upon finding the students, he wastes no time in eliminating them.
  • Eerie Pale-Skinned Brunette: His dark hair and pallid complexion make him look appropriately sinister and imposing, as a harsh and terrifyingly powerful Stern Teacher.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • During the finals testing time of Iruma's first year, he witnesses his students dancing along to one of Clara's songs. He doesn't know it is her own studying technique using mnemonic devices. However, the sight of them doing this makes him fear they all snapped from the pressure and considers giving them less homework.
    • After the events of the Heartbreaker Competition, Opera joins the teaching staff to help train the Misfits. Kalego expresses pity for the young demons and Iruma as he knows how Opera will be when training.
  • Evil Is Petty: Despite his reasonableness at times, Kalego can be a real prick and jackass when he is in a bad mood, which is often.
    • After Sullivan forces him to do in-person home visits to every member of the Misfit Class, and several of them were exhausting and frustrating visits because of the family's eccentricities, he gives his students more homework as a result.
    • When he sees how Jazz, Leid, Kamui, and Goemon are fearful of him being their chaperone and their immature response, he promises them even more homework than what he would give to the others if they lose the competition.
  • Exact Words:
    • When he made the deal with Iruma for a transfer into the Royal One's classroom, he said that he would give his approval if the Misfits could get the permission of the all of the faculty. It wasn't until they got the signatures of all the other teachers that he pointed out that the faculty includes everyone under the employ of Babyls, from the administrators down to the contract workers and janitor. Unfortunately he doesn't account for the fact that Iruma is a habitual yes-man and has done favors for literally the entire faculty of the school, and they were all more than happy to reciprocate.
    • During the Walter Park Arc, Kalego promises to give double the homework to all teams who came in last place for having fun. When Sullivan at the end declares that everybody won at having the most fun and declares that Kalego will be paying for everything they eat in the after-party, Kalego allows it because everybody being in first place also means everybody is in last place, so everybody present (besides Ameri who isn't in his class) got double the homework.
    • After getting an invite to the next Deviculum (which Kalego is only attending because it would be the earliest opportunity to interrogate his older brother Narnia, who is under suspicion for having recommended Atori as a Babyls teacher), Henri Azazel asks him to not cause any trouble while he's there. Kalego says he'll "keep that in mind", which Henri would've found even less reassuring than it sounds if he could see the wicked expression on Kalego's face.
  • Familiar:
    • He becomes Iruma's familiar due to the latter being human. The ritual for summoning familiars is the same as what humans do to summon demons, and it just so happens that the parchment Iruma used for summoning has Kalego's mark on it.
    • He also has his own as a demon, which is some sort of a golden dragon/dog-hydra named Cerberus. Though Chapter's 218 & 219 reveal that it's actually living mana that acts similar yet different from proper familiars, and in fact prevents him from gaining a proper familiar due to its aggressive attitude.
  • First-Name Basis: Goes by his given name Kalego instead of the Naberius family name. This is likely due to having attended Babyls at the same time as his uncle was on the staff to avoid confusion, making it the result of a One-Steve Limit.
  • Five-Second Foreshadowing:
    • When he arrives at Sullivan's manor for Iruma's home visit, he uncharacteristicly picks Iruma up and holds him in front of him like a Human Shield, shortly before asking to see Sullivan while shaking like a leaf. The reason why becomes obvious soon after: he's trying to avoid Opera, his Sitcom Arch-Nemesis.
    • As he's fighting Opera to end his contract with Iruma, Opera points how his "spiteful Magic" is annoying, hinting that he's really using magic rather than a Familiar.
  • Foil: To his own brother, Narnia. They're both strict demons that fiercely follows the rules of their establishment. However, their attitudes towards Iruma greatly differ once they find out Iruma is human. Kalego, despite being strict towards him, does give him a bit of praise when Iruma manages to do something for his classmates, and even tells him about his mana and has no familiar. Narnia, while coming off as goofy, is A Nazi by Any Other Name, and ignore Henri's policies towards humans by killing them. Despite these revelations, Kalego has no reason to go after Iruma, and protect him. But Narnia, who calls him a "thing" terrifies Iruma with an Implied Death Threat because he sees him as a danger to the Demon World.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • In a scene added to the anime's first season, during the Batra party he gets a complaint that someone is ruining all the events by winning all the prizes. He promises to deal with the troublemaker, until he sees that the demon in question is Opera, at which point he immediately does a 180 and walks away.
    • He states his family are possessed by the Cerebus that manifests in their mana, and the beginning of chapter 219 shows his back with three scars. This serves a clue to Fenrir's true identity as he has the same claw marks on his back.
  • Gold-Colored Superiority: Cerberus is one of the most powerful and intimidating familiars in the series, and demonstrates it by shining with a bright, golden glow as if it's constantly in Super Saiyan mode. Chapters 218 and 219 later reveal it's actually living mana bound to the Naberius clan that is similar yet different than Bloodline Magic, and not an actual familiar. Still fits the "superiority represented by golden color" though, as it's the strongest blood-related magic shown in the manga by those chapters, and it's so strong and intimidating that genuine familiars get cowed into subservience just by its presence.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • He apparently has a hobby of collecting cacti, suggesting he might be a Caring Gardener outside of work. In chapter 319 when his room is seen there are deep gashes in the furniture. walls, floor, but one cactus on the windowsill is untouched.
    • Balam mentions that Kalego is really good at playing any kind of musical instruments, especially the demonic piano. As the demonic piano changes based on the pianist's personality, Kalego's form is of an elegant beast's whose tail is the seat.
  • Hidden Heart of Gold: Despite being rough towards his class, especially Iruma, he does care about his students, and makes sure they're learning what he's teaching them. He also cares about the teachers in Babyls, and makes sure they succeed as teachers.
  • Hypocrite: Defied. He wrote the school policies involving strict, fair-minded grading, and holds himself to said policies even when it punctures his ego. This includes when he has to act as Iruma's adorable familiar, leading him to encourage Iruma to do his best.
  • Ignore the Fanservice: During the Heartbreaker Competition when he comes upon Teams Elizabetta and Kerori, Elizabetta lets her hair down and goes into Full Love Gauge 100%, while Kerori goes into Evidol Mode to charm him. Kalego just pops the balloons and says they are a thousand years too early to entice him.
  • Inconsistent Spelling:
    • His given name can potentially be translated as Kalego, Callego, or Calluego.
    • The same goes for his familiar, which has been translated as Cerberus, Cerberobuth, and Cerberion. Cerberus is the most consistently chosen for English translations, especially the manga, though a lot of this confusion comes from how Daisuke Ono seems to have difficulties keeping a consistent pronunciation of the name, resulting in different called names each times it's summoned.
  • Informed Species: The Character Booklet mentions that his familiar form is meant to be a cuter and fluffier version of a crow, based on the original Naberius taking on the form of one. However, except for the vaguely crow-like beak, there's nothing pointing to his familiar form being that of a crow, instead looking closer to an owl based on his body shape.
  • In-Series Nickname: Because of his situation with Iruma, it doesn't take long for many students to call him "Professor Familiar." Though, no one has said this to his face but more in conversations about him when he is in his familiar form.
  • Irony: Once his year as Iruma's familiar is up, he sticks close to Iruma for 13 hours to ensure the contract is nullified. He ends up as Iruma's familiar again because he's the closest (by proximity) demon to Iruma when he performs the Summoning Ritual.
  • It Amused Me: Most of his actions are to make students hate him, and he in return gets a good kick out of it, such as doubling their homework after the Walter Park Arc all the while enjoying their suffering.
  • Jerkass Has a Point:
    • When Iruma (while in his wicked phase) wants to have the Misfit Class move into the Royal One Dorms, Kalego refuses. When questioned why they shouldn't, Kalego calls out the most class for their actions, such as Asmodeus picking a fight with Iruma on the first day, Sabro attacking a teacher, Jazz stealing from others, Clara's immaturity and collateral damage she does, Iruma's battler nearly blowing up the school, Kamui's sexual harassment, and Lied's illegal usage of his games. Hearing all this, Iruma reluctantly agrees.
    • While he threatened to kick any of the students out of Royal One if they are not a rank 4 by the end of the year, he wasn't wrong to point out that it was their decision to move into the Royal One and that they need to live up to the teachers and other students expectations if they want to use the Demon King's classroom.
    • In the 13 Hours Arc, his reason to not become Iruma's Familiar anymore, that while rather selfish as to how he does it, isn't without reason. He had been humiliated since the time of the incident and his desire to end the contract is understandable since it was an accident. Even Iruma can't help but admit his reasons are understandable
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: The universe hates him, and he hates it back. It's genuinely unclear how much of his surly, abrasive attitude is just him, and how much is his appalling luck making sure he gets off on the wrong foot with everyone. However, he's a Reasonable Authority Figure who actually cares about the well-being of his students, though he acts like he doesn't and gets really jumpy when somebody points this out. While he is stern, he also prides himself on being fair in his grading.
  • Killer Rabbit: Just because his familiar form is incredibly cute and tiny does nothing to change how ridiculously strong he is, capable of curb-stomping creatures and demons several times his drastically reduced size without breaking a sweat.
  • Lack of Empathy: He demonstrates this in the Walter Park arc after the mountain bull magical beast he defeated vanishes away. As it is no longer his immediate problem, he has no drive to continue pursuing it even if it might be causing trouble elsewhere in the park or netherworld.
  • Laser-Guided Karma:
    • At Walter Park, once the mountain bull magical beast he defeated is summoned away, he has no interest in pursuing it and plans to keep reading his book. He gets forced to deal with the creature once more when Iruma summons him to help Opera and Balam. For added measure both Opera and Balam take time to enjoy his fluffy familiar body.
    • When he can, he will try to get some vengeance on the Principal for all the Principal does to him. During the Teacher's Banquet celebrating the successful Harvest Festival, Kalego is initially apathetic to what he will eat, but the second he hears it is all on Sullivan's tab, he quickly orders the most expensive wine on the list.
  • Late to the Realization: He doesn't notice until Mononoki comes to him with his private diary that it was stolen from his person. He knows it was Iruma and Jazz as part of some gambit to secure the Royal One, but as he doesn't have hard evidence, he cannot retalliate.
  • Locked Out of the Loop:
    • A year into knowing Iruma, he is still ignorant to the boy being a genuine human. However, as of chapter 319, Kalego has put the pieces together after the Deviculum, and realizes Iruma is a human.
    • During the Heartbreaker Competition when he is taken out of play by Iruma summoning him as a familiar, he isn't told by the other teachers of the threat Atori is posing to others. He is initially confused by Atori's actions but is quick to keep defending Iruma and the others.
  • Morphic Resonance:
    • Whether it's his normal self or his familiar form, he has a long hair strand that flops out.
    • As his familiar form is reflective of Iruma's inner innocence, it continues to his summons: Cerberus. The ferocious three-headed hound becomes a puppy in size and form, not that it stops the creature from being dangerous.
  • Mythology Gag: In the Ars Goetia, Cerberus is a potential alternate spelling of Naberius, which Nishi quite clearly decided to utilize by making an actual Cerberus the family-wide familiar of the Naberius clan.
  • New Body, Old Abilities: While his familiar form is temporary, Kalego loses none of his actual abilities or magical strength in his fluffy form. That said, they are on a weaker level than in his true form.
  • "No. Just… No" Reaction: When he is doing the home visit to the Valac home, he enters and sees Clara, her siblings, and mother holding signs welcoming him to their home. He tries to get out but is pulled back and he fulfill his duties.
  • Not So Above It All: During his time chaperoning Lied, Kamui, Gaap, and Jazz at Walter Park, he reluctantly permits them to dress him up in park paraphernalia and taking photos of him so they can attempt to have fun, and he won't tank their chances of winning with his refusal. However, his expressions show his strained composure revealing his true emotions. After he easily vanquishes the Mountain Bull in a single attack from Cerberus, he now stands proudly in front of the creature with his students and has them take a photo of his victory as he poses reading a book and looking smug.
  • Number Two: He seems to be right below Sullivan in command of the school.
    • This is proven true during the incident where Kiriwo tries to blow up the school, as with Sullivan deposed at the time for certain reasons, all the teachers rally under Kalego's command.
    • He is also supposed to stay in close proximity to the school to defend it if Sullivan is not available. When he and Sullivan are away for different reasons Opera has to step in and protect the School if something happens.
  • Odd Friendship: He gets along well with Professor Balam, to the surprise of the Misfit Class when Balam makes a surprise visit one day. Turns out they were classmates at Babyls together, and because of Kalego's surly attitude even as a kid, Balam is the only one who would hang out with him.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business:
    • While he considers most people as mere nuisances, he seems to be genuinely scared of Opera.
    • During the 13 Hours Arc, Kalego was seen smiling and whistling down a hallway around students. They were terrified due to how he never does so but because he finally had the chance to end his Familiar contract with Iruma. He went as far as to attack his own students to tried to stop him, even if it means he has to fight Opera.
    • In a dramatic example, when Opera is interrogating Kalego about Atori's infiltration of Babyls and attempted kidnapping of Iruma, when they mention that the demon who signed off on Atori (and Shiida) teaching at Babyls was none other than Kalego's older brother and demands an explanation, Kalego is clearly nervous and sweating over it, a far cry from his usual stoicism.
    • Another dramatic example: Both him and Murmur were overseeing every Battler, and once they observe The Magitools Battler's Haunted house, both him and Murmur were scared shitless by Beem's Galna artwork. Kalego is usually The Stoic, but his Cerebus manifests in response to his mental state and well-being. What this means is that Galna scared him enough that Cerebus manifested on its own just to protect him.
  • Protectorate: The reason Iruma is in his class is because Sullivan and Opera believed he can get the job done as Iruma's teacher and his guardian. Opera makes it clear that his failure to protect Iruma when he was the target is the reason they have to step in and be a substitute teacher. As such, once he finds out Iruma is human, he'll protect Iruma with his life as he has to, since he is his student.
  • Perpetual Frowner: His regular expression is a disdainful grimace, occasionally dotted with a sadistic Slasher Smile when he gets the chance to torment some students. The closest thing he has to a general positive face is a relaxed neutral expression, and the number of times he's actually expressed even a little cheeriness can be counted on one hand.
  • Purple Is Powerful: While his familiar Cerberus is a vivid golden yellow, he himself is heavily associated with the colour purple, and often manifests a dark purple Battle Aura. It makes him look appropriately regal and intimidating as one of the mightiest demons in Bablys.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Even though Kalego is always stone-faced and grumpy, he's actually very fair and reasonable if students show their respect and go above and beyond his expectations:
    • By the end of the school festival arc, he had come to accept Iruma's competence and raised his power rank by one, though he's still mildly upset about all the ruckus the Magical Tools division caused.
    • Likewise, as a familiar he does follow along with the humiliating trust exercises as to do otherwise is a violation of the school policy that he wrote.
    • While he acknowledges to another staff member that he does enjoy watching his students suffer under the very strict tutors they had been assigned to, he also states that he isn't just trying to torment them and make them fail out, he assigned each student to a tutor who would be best equipped to bring out their potential.
    • He also didn't hesitate to accept Kerori's request to teach Iruma to play the demonic piano and work with Soi to create the music part of the Misfit Class' performance for the Music Festival, stating that students' growth must always be prioritized and asking him for help was the right thing to do.
    • He respects the ambitions of his students and takes offense at being told by outsiders what he should do with this students. When Soi's father tries to order Kalego into forcing Soi to return home and quit the music festival, Kalego was on the verge of snapping and probably would've done something bad had Dali not intervened.
    • He stoically gives Iruma genuine words of caution after Iruma ascends to rank 5 while still a first year, a rare feat in the demon world, and with it comes weight and expectations.
    • When asked to visit each of his student's homes, he gives good advice on what each student should work on to improve themselves. Even if the student is doing things he wouldn't normally find acceptable, he gives them critiques to improve their chosen path.
      • For Clara he suggests she learn to better understand her magic and to be considerate towards others to have a promising future.
      • He suggests Jazz put some forethought into his thefts on the chance he could be caught.
      • He concedes that Kamui's essay "Sex and I" has some valid points.
      • He notes to Picero there are jobs that he can find which will require minimal effort for the lazy demon.
    • When Iruma admits that he's worried that he'll be fine without him as a familiar, Kalego opens up about how Cerberus has prevented him from having one, and assures Iruma that, with his classmates and the skills he has gained in school, that he'll be okay without him. He even performs another Summoning Ritual for him as soon as the contract is broken.
    • When he is forced by Sullivan to be a chaperone to some of the Misfits at Walter Park, he shows several moments of reasonableness.
      • Because of the nature of the competition, while he really doesn't appreciate his students putting him in a funny hat, he permits them because if he prevents them, then it would easily taint the results and prevent them from having a chance at having the most fun, and so win the competition.
      • In the same vein, he allows them to go anywhere, except a side area which is likely filled with demons still in their Wicked Phases, and so are a threat to the students.
      • While he forces his students to face the giant demonic beast, he gives them sound advice and tactics (if a little vague at first), and later saves them when they are celebrating too early after merely stunning the beast.
  • Ridiculously Cute Critter: While his personality and abilities remain the same, his familiar form is linked to his master's true character. As Iruma is a kind-hearted young man, Callego's familiar form is an incredibly cute fluffy bird-like thing, which almost everybody sees as hilarious (except for Momonoki, who finds it so adorable she can't help but gush about it when she gets to see it). Humorously, this form also affects the appearance of Cerberus, turning it into a Precious Puppy version of its normal form.
  • Running Gag: As the Stern Teacher opposite to Robin, it's quite common to see Kalego get annoyed by the latter's antics, which he will provide Robin some punishment in return.
  • Sadist Teacher: The rare breed where the sadism doesn't outweigh the teaching. Kalego openly admits to enjoying making his students suffer and assigns them extra work often out of spite, but he also puts their development above all else and is willing to subject himself to a lot of extra effort and stress to make sure they are getting the best education possible. This is exemplified when he assigns them special tutors. His fellow teachers note how he is clearly enjoying the Misfits going through Training from Hell, but Kalego also picked tutors that will help the Misfits reach their full potential.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: He has twice just walked away from situations which annoy or scare him.
    • During Iruma's first year Battler Party, Opera is devastating the carnival games and winning all the prizes for Iruma. Some parents complain and force Kalego to do something about the person, but upon seeing it is Opera, Kalego walks away without Opera noticing him, much to the parents' confusion.
    • While he knows visiting each of his student's homes will be taxing:
      • When he opens Clara's front door, he sees her family celebrating his arrival with a big welcome sign. He takes one step inside and to satisfy his "visit" and then tries to leave. He fails and is roped into the Valac family chaos. In the Anime, this includes a musical number.
      • When he arrives at Iruma's home, he wants to get to see Sullivan and Iruma as quickly as he can for fear of Opera playing some prank on him. He fails to get out quickly.
  • Secret-Keeper:
    • Given that Kalego's her teacher, it's a given that he knows about Kerori's secret idol work as Kuromu.
    • He and Balam also catch on after watching a live televised program of the Evidol Games that Iruma is the evidol, Irumi.
    • He asks Balam in a private conversation if Iruma is human. Kalego sees Balam confirm his silence, but doesn't push the topic further, and pretends he heard nothing because Iruma is still his student.
  • Secretly Selfish: There's no denying how selfish Kalego was behaving during the 13 Hours Arc, but he only wanted to end his contract with Iruma and not cause any trouble. He is even willing to fight Opera, someone he's normally afraid of, just to end it. Balam actually calls him out on how he didn't even consider how Iruma feels about this.
  • Slasher Smile: Whenever he puts his class through hell, he loves smiling sadistically at the torment he puts them through for his own amusement.
  • So Proud of You: Downplayed, but after some badgering from the Misfit Class Kalego does give Soi and Iruma due praise for their excellent work in the Music Festival. This praise is gently tapping them each with his riding crop on their heads. The boys react with genuine joy at this.
  • Stern Teacher: He takes his job as a teacher very seriously, and will not take any tomfoolery from students, fellow teachers, or even from the principal. This even extends to himself when he's forced to perform humiliating acts as a familiar, as refusing would be going against his own creed.
  • The Stoic: He's almost always seen with a serious look on his face. It's very rare to see him ever smile.
  • Stronger Than They Look: In his familiar form, he looks like a very small bird. Despite this he was able to knock out both Azz's and Sabro's familiars at the same time. It is also revealed he is one of the strongest teachers at the school, Ranked 8.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: More for embaressment than physical suffering, but during a school break he and Balam are watching TV and permits Balam to watch the Evidol Games before the concert Kalego wants to watch comes on. The first thing they see is Iruma as Irumi participating in the games and Kalego face palms as he is shocked by this revelation and knows he won't be able to watch his concert now.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: After the events of Iruma's First Year Battler Party, Kalego quietly calls Iruma out for his Chronic Hero Syndrome and tells him to rely on his teachers more. Once Iruma realized Keirio was involved or where he was located, Iruma should have contacted someone to help handle the situation rather than taking the burden on by himself.
  • Worf Had the Flu: While his familiar form is not weak, when fighting Atori in it during the later's attempt to kidnap Iruma is difficult for Kalego as his total power is weakened enough for Atori to nearly get away with Iruma if not for outside help.
  • Would Hurt a Child: A bit zig zagged, as while he's willing to manhandle students a bit, he never intentionally does anything to seriously harm them. There was that one time he pushes Iruma off a cliff during the flight test, but in that case he simply saw it as a necessary nudge towards what he saw as a reluctant flyer, unaware that Iruma is human, and thus falling from a cliff put him in genuine life-threatening peril, with the only reason he survives being because he is caught by a flying beast.

    Shichirou Balam

Shichirou Balam

Voiced by: Katsuyuki Konishi (Japanese), Daman Mills (English), Beto Castillo (Latin American Spanish)

Debut: Episode 32 (Anime), Chapter 62 (Manga)

Inherited Magic: Chime of Deception

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/balamanime1st.png

A gargoyle-like demon deemed to be the second most dreaded teacher at Babyls after Kalego. Balam's class focuses on imaginary beings and biology (things that appear in the human world), and he's the head of the Imaginary Things Research Division. He's first introduced subbing for Dali in Demonic History due to the latter's Evil Cycle, which Balam ends up befriending Iruma after a class incident causes the two of them to reveal their biggest secrets to one another. Iruma revealing to him that he's human after realizing that Balam's a Nice Guy. As a result, Balam becomes a personal teacher of sorts for Iruma by providing him educational picture books that he made himself to help the human boy better understand the demon world. Eventually, Balam's given the special tutor assignment to help train Sabnock and Azz for their part in the Harvest Festival.

  • Anger Born of Worry: When Iruma first revealed that he was human to him, Balam angrily admonishes him for being so careless with his secret, saying that any other demon would have devoured him on the spot. This leads to an hours long lecture on being careful with this secret with anyone else before he'll finally let Iruma go.
  • Apologetic Attacker: In the short "Kalego Gaiden" side story, a younger Balam gets held hostage by an older student who threatens to break his neck with their arm. Balam then proceeds to crush a portion of their arm small enough to fit one hand all the way around by sheer accident while apologizing for doing so, because he can't control his own massive strength all the time.
  • Beware the Nice Ones:
    • He's a Nice Guy Gentle Giant to the core, but he's also one of the only two Rank 8 teachers in Bablys alongside Kalego, making him part of the school's first line of defense. He'll never start a fight (except for the most righteous of causes), but he'll always be the one to end it.
    • Chapter 222 reminds us exactly why Balam is a rank 8 demon in charge of the school's defense. If his threatening aura isn't enough, he makes it clear that no one who's lying can get one over on him, and that he'll always dole out appropriate punishment.
  • Big Damn Heroes: He tells Sabro not to worry if he ever has to enter his wicked phase, as Balam will race to his side to help him should it happen. He makes good on this promise in chapter 257 when Atori has overcome Sabro and is about to force him to take another wicked phase pill.
  • Boxing Lessons for Superman: Despite having an ability to tell if someone is lying to him, he still learned to read facial and body reactions in the event his "Buzzer" wasn't enough. This was how he was able to tell that the two new teachers to Babyls who were secretly members of the Six Fingers who previously unleashed a terrorist attack on Walter Park were dangerous. Even though they told no blatant lies that his power would detect, he could tell from their body language that they still had something to hide.
  • Characterization Marches On: In his early appearances, he had a tendency to get rather emotional (and upset) more easily. Later on, he rarely loses his cool over anything (though he is still very touchy-feely and still can give rather long lectures when he gets going). Though you can argue after meeting Iruma and finding out he is human, he decides to control his emotions so that he can be approachable with his students, since Iruma approached him with kindness, and unwittingly told his secret.
  • Combat Pragmatist: When Balam fights, he fights to win. During a fight against Atori of the Six Fingers Balam wounds the demon with an attack and secretly plants a seed into the wound in the same action. When he desires, he can grow that seed into a giant vine-fist and slam into the enemy demon.
  • Cool Mask: Wears one that looks like the mouth-piece of a knight's helmet, which hides his mouth disfigurement.
  • Cool Teacher: He is very good at explaining things with his picture books. It was thanks to him Iruma was able to get a grasp on his studies.
  • Creepy Good: His Face of a Thug, No Sense of Personal Space, and overall Cloudcuckoolander mindset frequently combine to give him a terrifyingly creepy vibe, both to other characters and readers/viewers, but he's one of the biggest Nice Guys in the series after Iruma himself, and he is very serious about keeping his students safe and making sure they're learning properly.
  • Cuddle Bug: In his initial appearance, the first thing he does when interacting with Iruma is haul him up to the ceiling using vines he controls and hold him up against his chest, followed by him sitting Iruma, Clara, and Asmodeus in his lap and holding them against him with his arm while patting their heads. Flashbacks reveal he had a habit of doing similar things with animals. Even as far as chapter 182 he's seen gently lifting Iruma in the air using his bird feet, then laying Iruma right on top of his chest like a child.
  • Cute Little Fangs: As a child, Balam's fangs were visibly smaller and were less prominent on his face, leaving them this. At least until the accident that tore part of his cheek open, leaving one side permanently exposed.
  • Cuteness Proximity: Completely loses his composure when exposed to Fluffy Kalego and enthusiastically fluffs him while developing a verbal tic of inserting "Fluff" into his sentences.
  • A Day in the Limelight:
    • A good portion of the First Term Final Exams Arc is basically a character introduction arc for Balam where he befriends Iruma, and helps the latter with his demon world studies, after finding out the boy is human.
    • Chapter 182 is mostly about Balam telling Iruma the story of how he got his facial scar, and the lesson he learned from it.
  • The Dreaded: He's got one of the most intimidating reputations in the school. Ironically, people who know nothing about him and people who know everything about him have completely different reasons to fear him - he's a Gentle Giant with a Face of a Thug and No Sense of Personal Space, but he's also a renowned warrior (provided he has a genuinely good reason to oppose you) and a formidably powerful Living Lie Detector. Baal tells of the three demons his spies must avoid at all cost while at Babyls, he is one of them.
  • Earthy Barefoot Character: Balam is one of the characters closest connected to nature, with his specialization with living things and ability to control plants, and he's always seen going barefoot.
  • Every Scar Has a Story: In Chapter 182, we learn how he got his facial scar: as a young child, he got kidnapped by a giant bird, and it attacked him when he got too close to its eggs.
  • Face of a Thug: Out of all the teachers, he not only has an intimidating look, which is toned down by wearing a mask to hide his nightmarish Facial Horror, but him having No Sense of Personal Space and a slight Cloudcuckoolander mindset causes other demons to think he's some sort of Mad Scientist who will do horrible things if caught alone with another person. Once Iruma properly interacts with him, it's revealed he's actually a genuine Nice Guy even by human standards, and all his unintentionally terrifying traits are just because he Desperately Craves Affection. He gradually moves away from this, both through changing his look to be more approachable and other characters learning he's not such a bad guy.
  • Facial Horror: Due to an accident, the skin on half of his jaw has been permanently torn off, requiring him to always wear something to cover it, so as not to constantly terrify other people.
  • Failed a Spot Check: He's heavily trained himself to defy this for the most part, as despite being a Ditzy Genius with terrible common sense even for a demon, he's learned how to read body language in case his Buzzer fails him due to Exact Words, such as when Shiida and Atori manage to avoid tripping Buzzer when talking to him, but despite getting around outright lying to him, the way their bodies acted told him that they were definitely up to something shady, even if he couldn't tell what exactly. That said, when faced with somebody who is lying through omission while not displaying untruthful tics, he will completely fail to realize anything suspicious, such as Iruma hiding his status as human, with it outright taking Iruma blurting the fact out and then trying to lie about it for Balam to comprehend the truth.
  • Friend to All Living Things: Despite his creepy appearance and demeanor, he actually holds deep, genuine affection for all other living beings. The fact his appearance scares most creatures away means he grew to be incredibly affectionate towards those willing to stick around. This tendency (and his general knowledge of nature) ended up causing him to be the only student in Babyls history to outright win the Harvest Festival without resorting to violence of any kind when he was a student.
  • Good Wings, Evil Wings: Played with. Unlike the majority of demons seen, Balam's wings are clearly feathered bird wings rather than bat wings, and he is much gentler than the majority of demons seen. However, he is still a demon, and the feathers of said wings are black.
  • Genius Bruiser: He's an expert of underworld flora and fauna, and is also a famously mighty warrior despite his kindly personality. While training Sabnock and Azz, he held fast against their attacks for essentially a whole week without getting hit.
  • Genki Guy: He's extremely enthusiastic and energetic when it comes to the things he likes, and he often gets so caught up in his interests that he freaks out everybody else around him. He starts toning this down after meeting Iruma in an effort to be more approachable, but when exposed to his favorite subject of the human world, he'll start talking super fast while eagerly discussing both what he knows and what he can learn.
  • Gentle Giant: He's a tall and bulky guy, and is very kind and calm with everyone.
  • Green Thumb: He's very knowledgeable about all kinds of flora and fauna, and carries around a jar of special mana-sensitive plants to use in battle. He used one to turn it into a tree-dragon to battle an actual dragon. However, he isn't on the same level as his coworker Suzy, she has a more natural affinity for plants while his bloodline ability is unrelated to plants (the ability to sense any lie being told).
  • Handy Feet: Balam is capable of grabbing onto things with the talons and birdlike toes on his feet to hang upside down by them. They're even dexterous enough to be able to pick up and hold a person the size of Iruma.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • Despite his very close friendship to Kalego, it seems that Balam does not fully trust that his good friend would take well to the fact that Iruma is a human and thus has kept him out of the loop. When Kalego finds out the truth on his own, Balam is clearly terrified for Iruma's safety, especially when Kalego goes into a speech about how he won't let anyone bring harm to Babyls, not even a student. Subsequently, he is shocked and very grateful when Kalego then states that he is going to pretend like he knows nothing about Iruma's heritage.
    • Ever since he was little, he had a fondness for picture books and would even read them in his teens. As an adult, he writes and illustrates his own as a hobby. After learning Iruma's secret, he makes picture books that help teach him Demon World fundamentals he struggles with.
  • I Got Bigger: As we see during his flashback chapter and especially during the side chapters about when Balam and Kalego (and Opera) were students, Balam was a rather short kid, shorter than everyone else. At present, he easily towers over most of the class.
  • Important Haircut: Following his initial interactions with Iruma, when they meet again after the final exams, he's shaved his long, messy hair off out of the decision to do more in order to become more approachable to students, thanks to Iruma giving him the confidence to try. By the Music Festival, he's grown it back to his shoulders, though he ties it back a bit to make it look better groomed.
  • Intergenerational Friendship: Once he and Iruma realise how similar their personalities are, they end up getting along like a house on fire.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: He normally acts as a Gentle Giant and wears a Cool Mask to hide his disfigured mouth, but when something endangers his students, he removes his mask to expose his mouth and stops restraining himself, after which he shows exactly why he's Rank 8.
  • Little Bit Beastly: Aside from his large fangs, Balam has shown quite a few bird-like traits:
    • He has scaly legs that end in taloned feet.
    • What little we've seen of his forearms implies that they're also scaly, but it's hard to say as he always wears long gloves since he was a child.
    • While most demons have leathery batlike wings, Balam's wings are feathery and more birdlike.
    • Going by what the teachers say about his Rapid Hair Growth, he's bird-like enough to molt, which causes his hair to grow out to waist-length in a few weeks even if it was cut down to the scalp.
  • Living Lie Detector: His bloodline gives him the ability to tell when somebody is trying to deceive him. That said, it only works when people are intentionally trying to deceive him, so if it's simply something that never comes up, such as Iruma keeping the fact he's human a secret without actually lying about it, then he won't pick up on it. It's only when Iruma blurts out that he's human due to Balam's super-comforting demeanor and then tries to lie about it that Balam's power comes into effect. His power will not register statements of Exact Words as false either. Though it's also implied he can pick up on more covert means of deceit and not just bold faced lies, as he is able to detect a student who was trying to cheat on a test by drinking an intelligence boosting potion.
  • The Mentor:
    • Of all the teachers at Babyls, he's probably the most effective at actually teaching Iruma about the demon world.
    • Starting just before the Harvest Festival Arc, Balam takes on the role of mentor to both Asmodeus and Sabnock to help them hone their abilities and reach their potential.
  • Muscles Are Meaningless: As a child and even a teenager Balam was small for his age and rather unintimidating to look at, but he still had enough strength to bend metal or crush bones bare handed. Though he's since grown out of this trope by gaining muscle as he got older, making him look more fitting to his strength.
  • My Instincts Are Showing:
    • He's unusually good-natured for a demon but during the Walter Park attack, he's just as callous towards the prospect of helping the trapped children as all the other demons present and doesn't step in till Iruma goes in to rescue them.
    • In a humorous way, this shows again with even his friendship with Kalego. Despite knowing his friend doesn't want to be Iruma's familiar, he doesn't try to help Kalego when Iruma summons him again, doesn't warn Iruma that as a human he can regain the same demonic familiar if the demon is closest in physical proximity, or even try to stop Opera from pushing Kalego through the portal to finish the summons once more. It isn't his problem, so he lets Kalego suffer it.
  • Names to Run Away from Really Fast: His nickname is "The Gargoyle." It reflects his position as a powerful and ever-vigilant defender of the school from any threat as well as his fearsome and rather ghastly (without his mask) appearance.
  • Nice Guy: Arguably the nicest and most polite of the teachers. It helps that he's really the only person Kalego calls a friend.
  • No Sense of Personal Space: He's dreaded around the school for his incredibly touchy-feely attitude. It's to the point where rumors spread about him doing it to find suitable test subjects for experiments. Even after he starts trying to be more approachable, most students who aren't Iruma find his touchy-feely nature to be annoying.
  • Odd Friendship:
    • He is actually a friend of Kalego. They were classmates as students at Babyls, and have been stuck together ever since.
    • Him and Iruma getting along was initially seen as this. After his hair cut and attempts at being more sociable, it became less so.
  • Only Sane Man: When Kalego was trying to get his contract with Iruma canceled by forcing him to stay by his side for the 13 hours it would take to end the contract, Opera started a fight with him so they could get to Iruma to instead force him to renew his contract. Before they can start properly brawling it out in the school hallway, Balam gets between them and stops their fight cold. Asking both demons if they even asked Iruma what he wants to do about the contract. This leads to him being a mediator between the adults and Iruma to create a proper discussion so they can resolve the issue fairly, both for them and for Iruma.
  • Papa Wolf: He cares about his students deeply. Do not threaten harm to them even in a joking manner.
    • When he is before Atori and Shiida, despite neither of them not triggering his Buzzer ability, their claim to want to "destroy Babyls in an educational sense" pushes him into Tranquil Fury and his very aura is cracking their tea cups. He asks in a restrained tone if the students will be harmed in this goal of destruction.
    • In chapter 257, he displays this again when he arrives, rips Atori off an injured Sabnock, and protects his student.
"What the hell do you think you're doing ....!?"
  • Parental Substitute: Has a very close relationship with Iruma and is very affectionate with him like a parent would. He also put a lot of effort into teaching Iruma about the world he lives in.
  • Progressively Prettier: Later in the story, Balam's eyes are generally wider by default than they are in his earlier appearances and his eyebrows are generally defined compared to his initial appearances where he seems to have No Brows which has the effect of making him more approachable. Some of this is no doubt deliberate on his part, as he started taking steps to not creep out his students so much.
  • Rapid Hair Growth: Starting around the time of the Music Festival, Balam (whose head to this point had been closely shaved since his introduction to Iruma) is suddenly seen to have grown out his hair several inches. Some teachers even comment on this and note that it's because he's begun "molting". Subsequent chapters show his hair growing out more and more until by chapter 222 he's essentially regained the same hair length he had before meeting Iruma.
  • Red Baron: He's known In-Universe as "The Gargoyle." Despite being a thorough Nice Guy, he's earned such a fearsome nickname honestly through his sheer power as well as position as a guardian of Bablys.
  • Scary Teeth: The reason why he wears a mouth-hiding mask is because his mutilated mouth makes his already fierce fangs even more prominent, giving him an even worse Face of a Thug.
  • Secret-Keeper:
    • He is one of the few characters that knows Iruma is a human after Iruma confessed to him.
    • He convinces Kalego to watch a live televised program of the Evidol Games in order to see Kerori perform. Thus, showing that Balam knows about Kerori being Kuromu. He also catches on with Kalego while watching said program that Iruma is the evidol, Irumi.
  • Smarter Than They Look: He appears to be a tall, muscular brute, but he is an expert at demonic fauna and flora, as well as very capable of reading a person's body language to discern if they are hiding something despite not setting off his Buzzer ability.
  • So Proud of You: When Azz and Sabnock show enough skill to control their movements as they fight to actually hit him he is impressed with their growth and then promptly increases the difficulty of their training.
  • Stronger Than They Look: Balam is positively humongous in the present, but even as a child possessed a great amount of strength for his diminutive stature. Apparently capable of bending apart the bars of an iron fence as a small child. And, when of age to attend Babyls, he ended up being taken hostage by an older student. Only for Balam to apologize profusely when he accidentally crushed the student's arm in one hand because he can't always control his own strength.
  • The Worf Effect: He easily destroys one of the beasts at Walter Park, showcasing how outclassed both Azz and Sabro are even when working together compared to him.

    Robin Balse

Robin Balse

Voiced by: Takuto Yoshinaga (Japanese), Griffin Burns (English), Carlos Díaz (Latin American Spanish)

Debut: Episode 11 (Anime), Chapter 22 (Manga)

Inherited Magic: One Hit Bullseye

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/7094e120_7cb8_4e7c_95d9_1ea59d0ed0c3.jpeg

The teacher for the familiar class who entered Babyls as a rookie during Iruma's first year. Thus, making Robin the naive newcomer amongst the teachers. He is assigned to train Iruma and Lied for their participation in the Harvest Festival, but ends up only training the latter as the former is handled by his older relative Bachiko.

  • Always Accurate Attack: His bloodline grants him the ability to shoot arrows that will always reach their target, also being an Unblockable Attack through bypassing anything that might get in the way.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: Despite being The Ditz and an overly-childish teacher, he shows that he has no problems sniping Ocho (the Arc Villain of the Harvest Festival Arc) with a chilling smile and no hesitation.
  • Big Sister Worship: He sees his older relative Bachiko as one of the greatest people around and an amazing teacher, with him immediately recommending her to Iruma and Lied since he was certain she'd be a better tutor than him. While at first, based on her attitude and methods, it appears he might be overestimating his opinion of Bachiko, once she's actually motivated enough to properly teach Iruma, it's shown that Robin's adoration of her wasn't misplaced.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: He is a hyperactive, sometimes dense, annoying, loud demon who looks like he is totally incompetitent compared to the more professional teachers of Babyls. However, he is an excellent cook, perceptive on what students need to grow, patient to deal with the stresses of teaching, and is one of the strongest archers of his clan. Bachiko notes that if he was born to the main family, he could easily surpass her in skill. Though upon seeing young Robbie make a figure made from cans he shot and call it "Super-Duper Streong Arrow-Arrow-Man" she mentally notes he wouldn't be the head of the family.
  • Butt-Monkey: Robin tends to get on Kalego's nerves a lot due to his antics as an Enthusiastic Newbie Teacher, which results in Kalego (the opposing Stern Teacher) grabbing Robin's head in anger, or punishing him with more work.
  • Cool Teacher: He's a rather exuberant teacher, always doing his best to connect with his students, though he can be very absent-minded at times.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: As a new blood teacher who is very over enthusiastic about teaching, he doesn't get too much respect from either his students or fellow teachers. But he is a rather skilled archer, a skill that most demons biologically do not have the patience to properly learn, and has a rather powerful bloodline ability that is tied to his archery. He is just as capable of giving Training from Hell like the specialists that are called in to train the Misfit Class before the start of the Harvest festival, and partially thanks to his training, his pupil Lied is one of the two winners of the contest with Iruma while together performing a feat that had never been accomplished before. Beyond that, his personality is apparently perfect for archery with a combination of extreme patience and a dose of sadism; Bachiko states that her title could very well have been his if not for the fact that her bloodline power is simply much more powerful than his, something she is rather thankful for.
  • The Ditz: Also like Clara, his mind tends to wander a lot, occasionally losing track of whatever he was trying to do.
  • Exactly What I Aimed At: Given his ability, he not only can fire a direct attack on any one person in a day, he can be precise in the damage done. If he wants a person to survive the attack, his attack will miss any vital organs.
  • Enthusiastic Newbie Teacher: Iruma's First Year is Robin's as well for teaching. He shows some greeness and naive mindset a few times.
    • He is extremely hyper and so excited by the prospect of being a teacher at Babyls, he ends up missing his first week.
    • He shows some naivete when it comes to familiars and why they need to be treated with respect and are not cuddly friends as Robin initially believes.
    • At the Teacher's banquet celebrating a successful Harvest Festival, Robin expresses his happiness at being like a family to his students. The rest of the teachers present cut him off right away. They aren't meant to be friends with the students. The students are the future of the Demon World, and it is the teacher's duty to prepare and protect those students so they can survive the harsh realities of the world.
    • During his second year as a teacher, he is excited at the prospect of two new teachers joining the staff. While still green compared to the senior staff, he is excited at the prospect of training the new teachers and is saddened at Atori and Shiida's initial departure, but elated when Shiida returns and Opera joining, making Robin Opera's senior.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: More like the teacher nobody likes, as most of the teachers (especially Kalego) cannot stand him for his immaturity and foolishness. Fortunately for Robin, his status as a Supreme Chef and responsibilities in cooking for the teachers at the dorms help prevent the teachers from completely hating him.
  • Handicapped Badass: Temporarily so, but when he participates in the Heartbreaker Competition Lied steals his vision after Robin sniped one of Lied's charges and nearly got the other one. Being blind only slightly inhibits his dangerous skill as even without his Bloodline power his hearing helps him identify where Lied is running to and hits the rope holding the balloon of the other student. Robin even knows he didn't get the target during the state.
  • Hidden Depths: He is surprisingly good at videogames. Lied, who loves videogames more than anyone else in the class, cannot beat him in a competitive videogame without first luring Robin into complacency.
  • Improbable Aiming Skills: Even outside of his Bloodline power, he can fire arrows which can turn mid-flight to strike at his targets. One arrow he fires arcs up from ground level to above the third floor, and then turns almost horizontal and nearly hits the target, causing a deep crater in the wall where the arrow hit.
  • It Amused Me: This is his simple reason for why he is willing to give his permission for the Misfits to move into the Royal One. He just finds them funny and entertaining.
  • Keet: He's pretty much a male Clara, full of energy and enthusiasm. In fact, he's so energetic and enthusiastic that he's actually able to easily follow along with her sense of logic about fun.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: He isn't present when Kalego was turned into a Familiar during Iruma's first year, so he was unaware of it. None of the faculty nor the students bothered informing him, mostly because they wanted to see how it would turn out. It's not clear if he ever does find out as Kalego absolutely refuses to talk about it.
  • Logical Weakness: His bloodline ability requires his full focus during the moments before the attack is launched. If his focus is broken, his aim could be off target. Sensing Iruma's imminate attack and giving him the same vibes as an attack from Bachiko, followed by Iruma launching the attack before Robin fires makes Robin's attack miss every first year in range.
  • No-Nonsense Nemesis: While he can be loud, excited, and energetic, do not mistake him for weak. When he is in battle and has his sights on a target, he will fire at the target at the first opportunity.
    • He demonstrates this in his hunting of Ocho during Iruma's Harvest Festival after they had been stalking the target infiltrating the school event.
    • During Iruma's second year, he snipes one of Lied's first years not a second after the start of the exam, taking out the unsuspecting student and announces his presence to Lied. Leid promptly runs as fast as he can with his group.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: He holds no grudge against Iruma after the boy counter-snipes Robin in the Heartbreaker Competition and prevents him from defeating a large number of First Years. Later congratulates Iruma and compliments the boy's stance of being like Bachiko.
  • Running Gag: Whenever Robin annoys Kalego, Kalego will provide Robin some pain in return.
  • Serious Business: Due to his job as the teacher dorm's chef, he doesn't take kindly to anyone trying to snack on something right before a meal. When he catches Orias sneaking out food, he tackles him and puts him in a choke-hold while chiding him for it.
  • So Proud of You:
    • When Lied feigned a lapse in concentration to lure Robin into giving an opening in their fighting game and win the round, Robin is impressed with his student's growth and promptly makes the training much harder.
    • In the anime, during the Teacher's Banquet after Iruma's Harvest Festival, Kalego gives him a gentle version of this for his action in sniping and heavily wounding Ocho for his infiltration in the Festival. That said, when Robin takes the praise too far, Kalego gets angry at him for his big head.
    • After the Heartbreaker Competition, he talks with Iruma and is proud of the boy's development as an archer. Not only does Iruma counter-snipe him, it prevented Robin from defeated several First-years in a single attack, and his stance and threatening aura reminds Robin of Bachiko.
  • Supreme Chef: It is revealed that Robin is a rather skilled chef, which is why he is responsible for cooking the teachers' meals in the dorms (and why some teachers cannot completely hate him).
  • Vancian Magic: His Bloodline magic "One Hit Bullseye" is only usable once per daynote , so he needs to plan out when and where to use it if he doesn't want to waste it for the day. That said, he is still perfectly dangerous with "normal" arrows, which he can make change direction midflight.
  • Visual Pun: He wears a green version of the teacher outfit and was the newest teacher during Iruma's first year. So he is both literally and figuratively green.

    Blushenko Buer

Blushenko Buer

Voiced by: Hiroshi Nakamura (Japanese)

Debut: Episode 1 (Anime), Chapter 30 (Manga)

Inherited Magic: Near Immortal

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_20201016_223759.JPG

The homeroom teacher of class D who acts as the healer for the school. Blushenko has a bit of a beef with Sabro due to said student attacking him at the start of school, which the incident comes into play when the misfit class is trying to earn the Royal One classroom. In the end, the issue gets settled due to Blushenko witnessing Sabro's Character Development.

  • Alliterative Name: Both his first and last name start with B.
  • Ascended Extra: Downplayed, but he makes more frequent appearances in We are the Main Characters of the Demon World! due to being the homeroom teacher of class D in which Shaoron and his friends are a part of.
  • Bring It: He declares this to Sabnok in the Heartbreaker Competition when the student arrives as a Big Damn Hero and takes over holding back the teachers from attacking a squad of first-years.
  • Can't Hold His Liquor: When he drinks too much, he ends up overly emotional and is crying a lot.
  • Comically Missing the Point: When Ichou tell him about Hon Rin Chan's romantic pursuit of Ichou and how this person just appeared before Ichou, Buer believes Ichou used his Round Up magic.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: While he doesn't play a role in the story until Sabro has to resolve his issue with him during the Royal One arc, Blushenko can be seen in the background helping the teachers deal with Kiriwo's barrier during the Battler Party.
  • Easily Forgiven: Sabro attacked him on the first day of classes, which causes Blushenko to hold a grudge against him. However, after some much needed character development, Sabro gave a heartfelt apology to him while admitting how ashamed he felt for his actions. Blushenko, seeing Sabro learn a lesson in humility, accepted his apology as well as giving him his signature for Royal One.
  • Face of a Thug: He looks just as intimidating as Kalego. The big difference between the two is that unlike Kalego, Blushenko is actually quite sociable.
  • Healing Factor: His bloodline grants him the power to rapidly heal from any injury as long as he has mana, making him effectively immortal. He still feels pain, though. As the Heartbreaker event shows, he is capable of passing this ability onto someone else. This effectively turned fellow teacher Momonoki into an unstoppable juggernaut that even Sabro couldn't fend off.
  • Immortality Hurts: As mentioned above, he is pretty much immortal as long as he has mana, but that doesn't stop him from feeling the pain of each attack.
  • Logical Weakness: Due to his aforementioned bloodline ability, the only way to beat him is to knock him out from pain. He is painfully aware of this and has been trying to mitigate it by increasing his pain tolerance.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: After Sabnock fights and injures him on the boy's first day at school, he has had a strong distaste for the young man. Months later, when the Misfits are needing his signature to be allowed entry into the Royal One, Sabnock is tasked to face him once again. Rather than fighting, Sabnock shows genuine contrition for his previous actions, including bowing and exposing the roots of his wings which is a deep respect and sincerity to the other demon. Sabnock then apologizes for his foolish actions earlier. This causes Blushenko to lose his anger and accept Sabnock's apology, and then gives them his signature.
  • Scars Are Forever: He has two claw-scratch-like scars on the right side of his face, which is notable since his magic makes him able to heal scar-free from almost all harm, which begs the question what was capable of hurting him in such a way that he couldn't heal those properly.
  • So Proud of You: Having witnessed Sabro's Character Development firsthand, he can't help but praise the young demon's growth.
  • White Mage: Not only is he capable of self-healing to high degree, he can cast recovery magic on other demons revitalizing both their bodies and their lack of mana.
  • Worthy Opponent: During the Heartbreaker event he chastises Sabro for trying to take on two teachers, before Sabro replies that he was only stalling; Sabro just had to hold out until time ran out, nothing said he had to actually best the two teachers. Realizing Sabro successfully baited both of them from the weaker team members, Buer declares how proud he is of Sabro, before reaffirming that he will now give Sabro the fight of his life.

    Dali Dantalion

Dali Dantalion

Voiced by: Mark Ishii (Japanese), Chris Lewis (English), Alan Bravo (Latin American Spanish)

Debut: Episode 1 (Anime), Chapter 1 (Manga)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_20201016_223420.JPG

The teacher's supervisor who also teaches demonic history. He can often be seen with Suzy, mostly as hosts for school events.

  • Admiring the Abomination: He finds Iruma's curse chant that Sullivan tricks Iruma into reading during Iruma's entry ceremony really cool.
  • Alliterative Name: Both his first and last name start with D.
  • Code of Honour: The traditional Babyls teacher's motto seems to be this for him.
  • Cool Teacher: He loves having fun and is very supportive of his students.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: While he acts like a fun-time goof 90% of the time, he is always acting as a command and control point during crises at the school. He keeps himself abrest of the situations and monitors things, even if Kalego is the one giving orders. During a private talk with Kalego during the sukima of Chapter 270 where Dali's security demon did wellness checks on all the teachers after the Heartbreaker exam's climatic ending with Atori, Kalego states outright risking Dali in a fight would be "the end of Babyls." No further explaination is given.
  • Eyes Always Shut: Most scenes have him with his eyes closed, but he opens them from time to time.
  • Genki Guy: He's just as enthusiastic about teaching as Robin, though much less energetic, which still results in the other teachers taking him less seriously. It's especially noticeable when he's hosting school events, as his exuberant attitude heavily contrasts Suzy's subdued mindset.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: He's quite tall compared to Suzy's short stature when they co-host school events.
  • Immediate Self-Contradiction: His speech for the Rookie Hunt starts with him gently and warmly telling all Battlers participating that they need to be kind to each other, to be respectful, and not fight over the desired First Year students. He then sneers and tells them to forget that crap and crush everyone in their way to hype up the upperclassmen even more.
  • Number Two: As the teacher supervisor, he is second only to Sullivan himself. When Sullivan is away, he names Kalego and Dali in charge of Babyls.
  • Older Than They Look: He was already a teacher when Kalego, Balam, and Opera were attending Babyls, and acted as Kalego's mentor when he was still a newbie. The reveal was so surprising (given Dali's laid-back attitude and young appearance) that the teachers don't believe him until Balam confirmed it.
    Marbas: I vote lying.
    Murmur: I vote joking.
    Blushenko: I vote drunk.
  • Troll: Of all the teachers, when the mood is more relaxed, he will take pride and pleasure in screwing with students and Kalego for no other reason than amusement.
    • During Iruma's First Year Harvest Festival he, along with Stollas, report to everyone remaining that Leid has obtained the Vase of Endings, which is not only key in calling forth the Legend Leaf but also worth a high amount of points thus painting a target on Leid's back. They phrase it as though warning him to get to a reporting tower quickly but it is clear they just want some more excitement.
    • During Iruma's Second Year Rookie Hunt, he reminds every Battler present of the danger of Iruma's Battler hoarding new members, and all but commands the other Battlers to get in Iruma's way.
    • When making the Battler Party promotional video with the teachers, he and Stollas hope to really anger Kalego with the antics and are frustrated when he is more disinterested than angry.
  • You Have Failed Me: An off-screen mention is made of Dali throwing a teacher into a wall in his frustration at that teacher. The reason is Oswell missed that Allocer hid one of the First Years in the boy's pocket and didn't get that balloon too when he knocked out the other three. This allows more than one Misfit Team to win the competition, and that's two too many for Dali's plan.

    Furcas

Furcas

Debut: Episode 1 (Anime), Chapter 57 (Manga)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/35ec29ac_cf2e_426a_a005_18abee225b49.jpeg

A magical knowledge teacher.

  • The Alcoholic: When she first appeared, she can be seen drinking liquor. Morax also accuses her of being a drunkard.
  • Gag Nose: While some male teachers have equally weird noses, out of the female teachers she has a prominently long and pointy nose that makes her stand out a bit face-wise. Combined with her graying hair and dedicated focus to her studies, it gives her a slight witchy vibe, which is quite fitting for the female magic knowledge teacher, as witches are known for experimenting to learn new knowledge.
  • Intergenerational Friendship: While teachers being close with their students isn't uncommon even among demons, Furcas has developed a particularly strong bond with Schneider Allocer due to them sharing very similar interests in magical knowledge, to the point that they spend a lot of time together outside school. This is demonstrated during the Walter Park arc, where Schneider is absent from the fiasco due to attending an event with her instead, and is even later rumoured to be dating Furcas' daughter.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: When Allocer shows his intelligence and intuitiveness in handling a magical theory Furcas is trying to work out, she signs the permission slip allowing the Misfits to use the Royal One.

    Ichou Ipos

Ichou Ipos

Debut: Episode 30 (Anime), Chapter 30 (Manga)

Inherited Magic: Round Up.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/irumakunipos.jpg
The teacher of tactics.
  • Alliterative Name: Both his first and last name start with I.
  • Big Damn Heroes: At the end of chapter 259 Ipos uses his bloodline magic Round Up to teleport Allocer, his first-year team, and Jazz's first-year team away from Atori, who was planning to kill them.
  • Blow You Away: He's capable of using advanced wind magic. During his fight with Atori, Ipos uses Wind God's Blade, a powerful wind cutting swipe with his arm, to completely slash through the tree that Atori was hiding in.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Ipos isn't properly introduced until the Heartbreaker arc, but makes brief appearances here-and-there in previous chapters. The earliest that Ipos may have appeared is in chapter 30 where one of teachers that looks very similar to him sets out to deal with Kiriwo's barrier that was put up around Babyls.
  • Enhanced Punch: One of Ipos' methods of combat is to make his punches stronger by imagining his mana flowing into his fists.
  • Failed a Spot Check: His strong desire to protect Allocer and the four first years during the Heartbreaker Exam from Atori means he misses Allocer having one of them shrink and hides her in his pocket, saving one more balloon from being popped once the truce is over.
  • Improbable Weapon User: One of his methods of fighting is to try to summon out and drop an iron cage on his opponents to try to birdcage them.
  • Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs: Battled Atori by rapidly trying to hit him with mana-enhanced punches.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: He fully admits to his mistake and confirms he and Oswell missed Chimii's balloon.
  • Technicolor Eyes: His defining characteristic compared to other demons is the sclera part of his eyes being dark.
  • Weaponized Teleportation : He has a magic called "Round Up" which allows him to teleport targets to his position so long as he can see the target's face.

    Eito Djinn Ifrit

Eito Djinn Ifrit

Debut: Episode 30 (Anime), Chapter 57 (Manga)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/irumakuneito.jpg

The teacher in charge of school security who possesses powerful fire magic of the demon world's Djinn of Fire, Ifrit. He's been in the story since the beginning but only gets a name and proper introduction in the Heartbreaker Competition Arc.

  • Awesomeness by Analysis: He dominates and breaks down Asmodeus' attacks and his capabilities in fire magic, including explaining how even entering into his Evil Cycle won't help Asmodeus control his fire better than Eito.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Eito's not properly introduced until the Heartbreaker Promotion Exam, but makes brief appearances here-and-there in previous chapters. The earliest Eito appears is a brief cameo in chapter 57 when Iruma mentions the harder teachers that the Misfits need to convince in order for them to earn the Royal One classroom.
  • Finger-Snap Lighter: The first thing he does when coming into the spotlight is use his conjured flames to light a cigarette.
  • Foreshadowing: His skill in fire magic is seen in chapter 226 when the group shot of the teachers comes. He is in the background with a fireball on his fingertips.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: The chapter right before his proper introduction had him state to Asmodeus how he's aware the boy probably viewed him as an inconsequential background character the Misfits occasionally see in the faculty room, and that he's decided to come into the spotlight, which was literally the case for him meta-wise.
  • Oh, Crap!: He's amongst the teachers who freaks out when he realizes that Kalego of all people has stopped by the teachers' dorm for an inspection while they're slacking off.
  • Playing with Fire: He has an absolute mastery of fire magic, capable of analyzing the power and intensity of someone else's flames by grasping them in his hand.
  • Smoking Is Cool: He's usually seen smoking a cigarette.
  • Technicolor Fire: He is capable of making purple flames.
  • Worthy Opponent: When Azz lands a solid blow in their fight, Eito is furious... with Kalego, for ranking such a talented demon so low.note

    March Marbas

March Marbas

Voiced by: Hiroshi Nakamura (Japanese), Yong Yea (English), Dan Frausto (Latin American Spanish)

Debut: Episode 1 (Anime), Chapter 22 (Manga)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/untitled_951.jpg

The teacher for torture arts. March is related to Kuromu's evidol manager, Mar.

  • Alliterative Name: Both his first and last name start with M.
  • Dissonant Serenity: Alongside his general nonchalance when it comes to doing his frankly horrifying job, after the Heartbreaker arc concludes, he offhandedly mentions to the other teachers that the torture methods he was authorised to use during it were actually downgrades compared to his initial choices. Presumably, the higher ups thought the students wouldn't be able to handle whatever he might do to them without restrictions in place. Everyone who hears of this finds it disturbing.
  • The Generic Guy: It's mentioned by a few characters that he looks incredibly plain and average, which annoys him slightly. His sadistic cruelty as a Torture Technician moves him from this trope, instead leaving him as more of The Non Descript.
  • Heroic Comedic Sociopath: Despite his casual enjoyment of torturing Jazz earlier in the Heartbreaker arc, once Atori goes rogue and makes things genuinely life-threatening for the students, he's shown prepping several menacing torture devices in case they encounter one another. Notably, his face is obscured by his hair when this is shown, implying that whatever expression is on it is not his usual, laid-back smile.
  • Hidden Depths: Despite having the looks of a plain guy with nothing exciting about him, he's actually the teacher for torture arts, something that surprises Robin.
  • Kick the Dog: He takes an overly sadistic glee in his torture of Jazz and was willing to use a centipede demon on him that would have caused intense agony by burrowing into his nervous system and could have proved fatal.
  • One Degree of Separation: He has a sister named Mar that works as an evidol manager, with her specifically being Kerori Crocell's manager as Kuromu. Neither he nor the other teachers know this, though Marbas does know the idol, albeit he's not telling for confidential reasons.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: He shares the same upper hair spikes as his relatives, Mal and Yabashi.
  • Torture Technician: He's the teacher in charge of torture arts, which involves him teaching students various ways to torment other demons. During one time he is working on a student, he considers waterboarding, electric shocks, and pressure positions to be a warm up to his most devestating piece of equipment. He nearly breaks out a terrifying centipede monster in his torture against Jazz in the Heartbreaker Arc, but fortunately Iruma arrives in time to drive Marbas off... with Jazz admiting the centipede would have broken him with the sheer agony.

    Momonoki Morax

Momonoki Morax

Voiced by: Ayaka Asai (Japanese)

Debut: Episode 1 (Anime), Chapter 30 (Manga)

Bloodline Magic: Master of all Trades

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/5ec608ec_2e0c_4efb_84a4_e37232c01f79.jpeg

The teacher of magic foundation who has a pretty obvious crush on Kalego. She is the granddaughter of the other teacher called Morax.

  • Alliterative Name: Both her first and last name start with M.
  • Animal Motif: Frogs. Her magic involves frogs in many ways, from summoning swarms of them to being able to transform others into them. She also is rather prone to "jumping" into things, such as her efforts to try and get Kalego's attention.
  • Butt-Monkey: The few times she gets any focus is usually something concerning Kalego (such as trading his journal for her approval stamp) which has left her a gibbering wreck more than once.
  • Cuteness Proximity: She absolutely adores Kalego's familiar form, and takes any chance she gets to gush over seeing it.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Chapters 316-318 focuses on her. Momonoki ends up as the newest addition of the third all-girls party with Clara, Elizabetta, Kerori, Ameri, and Nafra. The party discussion focuses on Momonoki's love-life where she tells her backstory to the girls of her first day as a teacher where she was assigned to work under Kalego, and how she fell in love with him.
  • Didn't Think This Through:
    • Played with in the Heartbreaker Exam. She sees through Marianne's illusion of the wounded Kamui as an equally wounded Kalego by reasoning that the real Kalego would never let himself be seen in such a state. The problem is she keeps thinking it through and realizes that means she's never be able to see Kalego like this again and succumbs to the temptation to stay in the illusion briefly.
    • Similarly, she decides to take a lot of photos because there won't be another chance like this. The problem is the enchantment only works on her; Kamui wasn't actually changed. As an Omake reveals, after the spell wore off all the pictures in her phone turned into Kamui, including one she apparently set as her wallpaper before the effects wore off.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: While her proper introduction is Iruma attending her class in chapter 44, Momonoki can be seen in the background helping the teachers deal with Kiriwo's barrier during the Battler Party.
  • Every Man Has His Price: All it takes for Iruma and Jazz to secure her permission to move into the Royal One is giving her Kalego's notebook claiming they found it. They tempt her further by saying it reveals his hobbiesnote  and his feelings about other teachersnote .
  • Expository Hairstyle Change: On her first day as a teacher at Babyls, she had her hair in a short bob with bangs covering her forehead, reflecting her youthful innocence and highlighting how she was seen as a Sensei-chan that could be taken advantage of by her students. Following her realizing she was tricked by her students and getting help from Balam at Kalego's direction, she pushes her bangs back with her hairband, signifying that while still rather green, she's much more serious and not someone the students can push around. By the present day, she's replaced her hairband with a hair tie and grown it out much longer, giving her a much more mature and serious appearance.
  • First-Name Basis: While other characters are referred to by given name or surname depending on the level of formality, Momonoki is near-exclusively referred to by her given name even in super-formal conversation. Given her grandfather (who goes by Last-Name Basis as Morax) is among the faculty, it's just a case of One-Steve Limit to keep from confusing the two.
  • Forced Transformation: She knows magic that lets her morph any living thing into any other living thing, with her default choice being frogs.
  • Heroic Spirit: During the Heartbreaker Competition, though playing the "villain", she breaks Marianne's powerful illusion making Kamui look like Kalego to stall her from attacking through brute force.
  • In the Back: She snipes Kamui from behind when his First years and Team Alice are trying to stop Sullivan's awakening in the Heartbreaker Competition.
  • Magic Wand: She utilizes a magic wand when casting her transformation spells and other magics.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Despite it being part of the exam and her not exceeding her role more than any other teacher would, she deeply regrets the No-Holds-Barred Beatdown she laid on Caim during the Heartbreaker event.
  • The Red Mage: Her Bloodline Magic is revealed to be the ability to master any kind of magic at the cost of the magic's strength being proportional to her mana, effectively making her this.
  • Sadist Teacher: Subverted in that she is a good person at heart. It's just that her Nice Girl tendencies can be taken advantage of, and Kalego warns her how that could be a problem, which is noted below. When she finds out some students did so and cheated on her homework, Balam decides to help her resolve the issue. And when she starts the magic demonstration, the students who cheated accuses her for this, but she fires back that it was part of their assignment. And since she planned to spend most of the afternoon how to defend against offensive magic, the cheaters profusely apologies.
  • Sensei-chan: Subverted harshly. Kalego tells her on her first day that she shouldn't be friendly with the students, and that she must take her teachings seriously. And he was absolutely right about that, since she overheard some students taking advantage of her, and started cheating their homework since she began. With the help of Balam, she resolves to overcome this issue.
  • Ship Tease:
    • It is hinted that she has a crush on Kalego, as his private notebook was used to get her to sign the Classroom Change application for the Misfit Class. She also finds his familiar form especially cute, moreso than anybody else.
    • When Marianne casts her illusion magic to make something which will halt Momonoki's attack on Kamui the spell turns Kamui into Kalego, having the same injuries as on the real Kamui. Momonoki is almost overwhelmed at the sight of an injured Kalego and "his" grabbing her legs.
  • Worthy Opponent: When Momonoki finally pops Uzu's balloon and takes out Team Kamui, she does so with a gentle smile as she respects how hard these three demons worked and stalled her long enough for others to join the fray, and eventually stopped Sullivan's entry into the competition.

    Morax

Morax

Voiced by: Hiroshi Shimozaki (Japanese)

Debut: Episode 1 (Anime), Chapter 57 (Manga)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/c3c858f5_b4fd_4fd7_8e93_965f41142bbd.png

A magical knowledge teacher who's also Momonoki's grandfather.

  • Dirty Old Man: Heavily implied to be this, as he was fully willing to do a favor for the Misfit class after a chat with Kamui, the resident super-perv.
  • Hypocritical Humor: When he hears Furcas giving her signature because a student gives her information, he derides her for being so easy to convince. However this is when Kamui approaches him with some whispered, likely perverted information, and the old man is happy to give his signature as well.
  • Last-Name Basis: While this is already the case for several characters, especially the 13 Crowns, he's notable as the only non-Crown character who has another family member in the notable cast (his granddaughter Momonoki) yet is never called by his own given name.

    Tsumuru Murmur

Tsumuru Murmur

Debut: Episode 30 (Anime), Chapter 30 (Manga)

Inherited Magic: Mood Ring

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/irumakunmurmur.jpg

The teacher of psychiatry.

  • Early-Bird Cameo: Murmur's not properly introduced until the Heartbreaker Promotion Exam, but makes brief appearances here-and-there in previous chapters. The earliest that Murmur may have appeared is in chapter 30 where one of teachers that looks very similar to him sets out to deal with Kiriwo's barrier that was put up around Babyls.
  • Enemy Scan: His bloodline magic allows him to scan others to both give him knowledge of their natural powers and general magical strength, but also see an aura around them that represents their current mood.
  • Fanboy: Of evidols, which embarrasses the hell out of him when Kalego, Dali, and Iruma stop by his room during the dorm tour, and see his massive evidol collection. One of which is a poster of Evidol Gyari.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: The entire point of the Heartbreaker exam was to serve the Misfit Class some Humble Pie, so Murmur was just doing his job in attacking to the best of his abilities. Specifically, as the Psychiatry instructor, he targeted Team Gaap’s severely lacking teamwork to cause them to start infighting. However, he started to "feel like an asshole" when he sees just how well that worked... and then he needed to rush to prevent the entire student body from seeing Goemon's Nightmare Face, which nearly drove his underclassmen insane with a brief glimpse!
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • He's amongst the teachers who freaks out when he realizes that Kalego of all people has stopped by the teachers' dorm for an inspection while they're slacking off.
    • And a serious one in a flashback to the Heartbreaker exam when Goemon's aura becomes black and he goes into his wicked phase out of sheer frustration at his kouhai teammates inability to get along.
  • Repetitive Name: Murmur Tsumuru.

Oswell Orias

Debut: Episode 1 (Anime), Chapter 57 (Manga)

Inherited Magic: Stars Alligned

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/f4a9690a_c6d8_4e7b_a186_10b419170e84.jpeg

The astrology teacher.

  • Alliterative Name: Both his first and last name start with O.
  • Barrier Warrior: A variation in that he can cast his bloodline magic to make himself and those around him very lucky. This results in shielding them from even stray pebbles or leaves from hitting them.
  • Born Lucky:
    • His bloodline grants him immense luck, making it where anything involving chance will go in his favor. However, according to him, his magic luck can turn off (usually outside of work), and there are certain dangers he must avoid if someone exploits his Logical Weakness.
    • He can also enchant others near him to give them similar protections.
  • Failed a Spot Check: His strong desire to protect Allocer and the four first years during the Heartbreaker Exam from Atori means he misses Allocer having one of them shrink and hides her in his pocket, saving one more balloon from being popped once the truce is over.
  • Graceful Loser: He accepted his loss against Lied and Elizabetta and commended the two for outsmarting him.
  • Hidden Depths: When Iruma joins Kalego and Dali on an inspection of the teacher's dorms, Iruma learns outside his work as a teacher he turns into a completely different person. He likes playing video games and eating snacks even right before dinner, and his fancy clothes are replaced with a hoodie that gives off the impression of someone who prefers to stay indoors playing games in their room.
  • I Gave My Word: He promises Lied to give his permission for the Misfits to enter the Royal One upon him beating Orias in a game of Lied's choosing. When Lied does win, Orias is impressed at both Lied's strategy both in-game and towards the end goal, and signs the permission slip.
  • Logical Weakness: His bloodline makes it where anything involving pure chance, such as him being deprived of his senses and made to play a board game with confusing rules, will always have events turn out the way he wants them to. The key words there are "the way he wants them to", so anybody capable of influencing his mind, such as Elizabetta using her Full Love Gauge to make him subconsciously want to lose for her sake, will be capable of messing with that luck.
  • Meaningful Name: He is named after the demon that teaches about the planet and the stars, fitting his position as an Astrology Teacher.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: He fully admits to his mistake and confirms he and Ichou missed Chimii's balloon.
  • Revenge: Played for laughs, but he pops Lied's last balloon just to mess with him and knock him out of the Heartbreaker competition in retaliation for losing to Lied during the Royal One arc.
  • The Teetotaler: It's mentioned during a party by the teachers at a bar that he avoids alcohol.

    Raim

Raim

Voiced by: Nozomi Yamamoto (Japanese), Lauren Landa (English), Liliana Barba (Latin American Spanish)

Debut: Episode 1 (Anime), Chapter 17 (Manga)

Inherited Magic: Ero Scope

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pgwpxjq.jpg

The succubus teacher for seduction. She is also tasked in privately tutoring Clara and Elizabetta in preparation for the Harvest Festival.

  • Exotic Eye Designs: When using her "Sexy Scope" powers, her pupils change into hearts that take up most of her eyes.
  • Hot Teacher: As would be expected for somebody teaching a seduction class, she's one of the most provocatively dressing and erotically acting characters in the entire series, with only Asmodeus Amaryllis, Azz' mother and her original teacher, being sexier and more erotic than her.
  • Inconsistent Spelling: Her name has translated as both Raim and Lime.
  • Leg Focus: Has some very sexy and slender legs she loves to show off, especially when teaching Clara and Elizabetta the skills of seduction.
  • Love Potion: She offers one to Clara when she failed miserably in her seduction lessons, but Clara turns it down.
  • Magic Eye: She has "Sexy Scope" as a prominent case of succubus magic, which lets her measure the sexual appeal and skill of the people she looks at.
  • Master of Illusion: Teaches Clara illusion magic to help her create her "Bakkun", or “Toy Box.”
  • Ms. Fanservice: As expected for the seduction teacher, Raim dresses very provocatively, showing off her breasts and her long legs. In fact, most of the male students, and even her female students Clara and Elizabetta, are drawn to her sexiness.
  • So Proud of You: It's clear that Raim is impressed at how much progress Clara and Elizabetta have made since their first training, with the latter being able to use her bloodline skill to the fullest and the former being able to seduce people using her own unorthodox ways.

  • Succubi and Incubi: As the main example of a succubus in-story, she exemplifies it well, having her literal job description involve being sexy and seductive in order to get men to do what she wants, and she works at the school to teach other demon girls how to become seductively sexy succubi like herself.
  • Unusual Eyebrows: Hers extend off the side in M-like arcs before curving back under her eyes, giving them a heart-shaped look.

    Suzy Stolas

Suzy Stolas

Voiced by: Satomi Arai (Japanese), Sarah Anne Williams (English), Erika Langarica (Latin American Spanish)

Debut: Episode 1 (Anime), Chapter 9 (Manga)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/00e63304_b686_4999_82da_d8fa29713e83.jpeg
The head of demonic biology class and the magical vegetation division. She is often seen together with Dali.
  • Alliterative Name: Both her first and last name start with S.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: She's one of the kindest and friendliest teachers at Babyls, but just like Robin, when she needs to take things seriously, she shows that she gives no mercy when crushing her opponents.
  • Caring Gardener: Both when acting as the demonic biology teacher and when just going about her day off-the-clock, she's very dedicated to caring for various forms of flora present in the Netherworld, and fittingly for such a hobby-slash-career, her teaching style and overall interactions with her students involve a caring-but-firm attitude, easing students into dealing with handling plants while using her plant magic to restrain anybody who gets too rowdy.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Chapter 9 is basically a character introduction chapter for her where Iruma and the misfits take part in her demon biology class.
  • Dreary Half-Lidded Eyes: Second to her often keeping her Eyes Always Shut, most of the time she opens them she only does so half-lidded, and combined with her permanent Playful Cat Smile, it gives her a calm and listless appearance that perfectly compliments her Mellow Fellow personality.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: She has 4-pointed stars for pupils.
  • Eyes Always Shut: She's not actually averse to opening them, but most of her page-/screen-time in the manga and anime have them closed, and even when she does it's usually half-lidded. In fact, opening her eyes completely is so rare that the only times she has in-story are during the anime version of the Battler Party explanation video, when she's surprised by the shaking caused by the giant plant Iruma grew, and when she expresses amazement over the Legendary Leaf during the Harvest Festival.
  • Green Thumb: The anime adds an extra scene which shows that her personal magical affinity involves plants, as befitting the teacher in charge of them. Chapter 227 officially introduces this ability of hers in the manga, and shows that she's so skilled at the manipulation of all forms of demonic flora that she's known as the "Mother of Plants".
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: She's already quite short among the teachers, but it's especially notable when commentating alongside Dali, as while he's not the tallest teacher he's still tall enough that she barely reaches his waist.
  • I Am Not Left-Handed: During the Heartbreaker Competition, she uses her flute first to control her plants, but when Clara hits her hard with pepper, making playing music all but impossible, she just uses her power to summon plants another way.
  • Magic Music: Her control over plants can be done with a whistle she plays, as seen when she encounters Team Valac. That said, it isn't the only means.
  • Mellow Fellow: She's a very calm and subdued person, rarely speaking above a flat but friendly register, and often just goes with the flow in situations.
  • No-Nonsense Nemesis: When she encounters Team Valac during the competition, without hesitation she summons daffodils, which act as gatling guns, and a thorned-star lily, which can fire its thorns as well. She notes that she wouldn't show mercy to her own relatives.
  • People Puppets: She can summon a parasitic grass that will entwine its prey and control it.
  • Playful Cat Smile: She has a bit of a cleft lip that gives her a perpetual cat-like smile by default, which fits well with her playfully mellow personality.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: She gives her signature to the Misfits after Agares and Gaap help her clear a field and make it suitable for gardening.
  • Red Baron: Amongst those who know the true power of the Stolas clan, especially members of said clan, she's known as the "Mother of Plants" for having unparalleled mastery over her Green Thumb abilities and unrivaled understanding of demonic flaura, with only Balam coming close.
  • This Means War!: When facing Team Valac in the Heartbreaker competition Clara is able to sneak up on her and douse her face with pepper, inhibiting her from playing her flute. It has the side effect of ruining her make-up, and that really pisses her off, calling it a "grave offense."
  • Troll:
    • During Iruma's First Year Harvest Festival she, along with Dali, report to everyone remaining that Leid has obtained the Vase of Endings, which is not only key in calling forth the Legend Leaf but also worth a high amount of points thus painting a target on Leid's back. They phrase it as though warning him to get to a reporting tower quickly but it is clear they just want some more excitement.
    • When making the Battler Party promotional video with the teachers, she and Dali hope to really anger Kalego with the antics and are frustrated when he is more disinterested than angry.
  • Verbal Tic: She has a habit of randomly saying the French word "oui". The English translation of the anime turns it into "yis".

Staff

    In General

The hundreds of demons who work the maintinance, tend the grounds, cook the food, and do all the background things to help keep a large school running with efficiency.

  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Because of Iruma's inability to refuse requests asked of him, he has always been kind and treats the staff well, helping whenever asked. As a result, the general concencus as to why they all agree to help Iruma get into the Royal One is because of this kindness. What's more, Iruma doesn't realize Kalego's conditions included them, so he he never asked them. They all came on to the faculty room to give Kalego their permission slips on their own.
  • Supreme Chef: The cafeteria staff are excellent chefs, with even the most basic food for unranked students being delicious and healthy. They take great pride in their abilities.

    Comecome

Comecome/Camu Camu

Voiced by: Hiroshi Shimozaki (Japanese)

Debut: Episode 3 (Anime), Chapter 4 (Manga)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ca945c03_abb9_47e6_8e85_d24796edc91c.jpeg

The proprietor of the school store.

  • Berserk Button: Dislikes those who get items from his store without paying i.e. thieves (Jazz) or demons who can create items just by seeing them once (Clara). His response to seeing them (prior to Iruma's influence on Clara) is to stab them with his bamboo spear and possibly kill them.
  • Beware the Cute Ones: He may be a cute pudgy-looking demon, but he'll punish those who steal from his store.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Part of Chapter 4 is basically an introduction chapter for Comecome.
  • In the Hood: It's shown in the anime that his appearance is actually him wearing a full-body hoodie, with the reason for his black face being shadows hiding everything besides his glowing eyes.
  • Punny Name: His name is based on how some shops advertise by calling out to potential pedestrian customers.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: While his hatred of thievery, intentional or accidental got Iruma, Clara, and Azz on his bad side when they first met, once Iruma and Azz repay him for both the summoning sticker they unintentionally stole and any merch Clara reproduced, he calms down and develops a respectful customer relationship with the trio, even letting Clara come by so long as she promises to use money. He also will repay kindness shown to him with kindness in return, such as how Iruma frequently helps him manage the store, to which he repaid the favor by providing his support in the Misfit Class acquiring the Royal One classroom.
  • Shoplift and Die: He absolutely hates anybody trying to take something from his store without paying, to which he'll try to skewer them if they do so.

    The Janitor

The Janitor

Debut: Episode 30 (Anime), Chapter 57 (Manga)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/irumakunthejanitor.jpg

An elderly demon that works as a janitor at Babyls.

  • Adaptation Expansion: In the anime, he gets a couple additional moments showing him taking care of the seeds that Iruma helped him plant.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Right before Kalego's about to end the Misfit Class' attempt to transfer into Royal One, the janitor shows up at the last second (followed by the staff members he rounded up) to provide Iruma with the rest of the Babyls staff signatures needed for said transfer.
  • The Cameo: In the anime, Iruma and the janitor wave to one another in the first episode of Season 3.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: He makes a brief appearance midway through the Royal Classroom arc seeking out Iruma for help on some janitorial work, which Iruma (despite being in a Wicked Phase) gladly accepts given his inability to say no. By the end of the arc, it's the janitor who shows up at the last second bringing along the rest of the Babyls staff as they all provide Iruma with the remaining signatures as thanks to Iruma for all the help that the latter's been providing for them.
  • Nice Guy: A nice elderly janitor that gets along with Iruma, and is the one that seeks out the other non-teacher staff of Babyls to help with Iruma's goal of earning Royal One.
  • No Name Given: He was never given a name.

    Otonja

Otonja

Debut: Chapter 270 (Manga)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/irumakunotonja.jpg

A Security Devil of the Dantalion family who works as the superintendent of the teachers' dorm.

  • Ambiguous Gender: Given that Otonja's body appearance looks like a shadowy black cloud that doesn't even have a face, it's impossible to make out if Otonja's a man or woman.
  • Casting a Shadow: Otonja's body is that of a black shadow, which most likely plays into why it's known as the "Shadow Demon."
  • A Day in the Limelight: Chapter 270 is basically Otonja's introduction chapter as it's seen going around Babyls visiting each of the teachers following the Heartbreaker exam.
  • In-Universe Nickname: Otonja's known as the "Shadow Demon," who's character design comes with a head that looks like a black cloud.
  • The Jeeves: Serves as Dali's dedicated Security Devil.
  • Nervous Wreck: When Otonja's going around visiting each of the teachers, its always seen giving off a nervous tick. Probably a sign of Otonja struggling to keep up with the teachers' antics.
  • Prone to Tears: Breaks out into massive tears of happiness just from seeing how determined the teachers are to train to protect their students from any future enemies.
  • Undying Loyalty: As a Security Devil to the Dantalion family, this makes Otonja very loyal to Dali, which Otonja's seen proudly working for at Babyls.

Students Older Than Iruma

Student Council

    In General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/irumakunstudentcouncil.jpg
From left to right: Smoke, Grave, Johnny, and Quichelight

The various demons who work in the student council directly under Ameri.

  • Adaptational Early Appearance: While they don't start popping up until Ameri's introduction arc, all 4 of them can be seen in the first episode standing guard at the school entrance.
  • Aerith and Bob: The notable members of the student council includes Smoke, Grave, Johnny, and... Quichelight.
  • A Day in the Limelight: They get a lot of screen-time during the Student Council Training arc, and getting to see a bit of their backstory as to how Ameri recruited them.
  • Honorary True Companion: Iruma is considered as one despite having left them at the end of the arc to the point they all would be honored if he ever choose to return.
  • One Dialogue, Two Conversations: Due to the fact Ameri maintains her "strict disciplinarian" facade around them, and often doesn't properly explain things to them, whenever she indirectly talks about the time she spends with Iruma, the student council construes something completely different from what she actually means, such as their belief that the word "date" means "extra-strict patrols".
  • Quit Your Whining: Johnny and Quiche have this attitude towards Iruma when he joins the Student Council and starts crying after only one day on the job, with them noting that being part of them means he needs to stand strong, be more assertive, and set an example for the other students. After being told this, Iruma takes their advice to heart and pushes himself until he not only meets but surpasses their expectations, resulting in the whole group coming to respect him as an honorary member. Even if he still cries when joining their fasting-style small meals, they respect that he is able to sit-up straight despite wanting to keel over as a Big Eater.
  • Recruited from the Gutter: With the exceptions of the newhires Ronove and Naphula, every one of the starting members used to be a delinquent that was down on his or her luck until they were rescued by Ameri. As a result, each and every one of them holds absolute loyalty to her.
  • Tough Love: To Iruma when he joins them for a week. They eventually back off after seeing Iruma work so hard and he gains their respect.
  • True Companions: They all seem to regard all of them as good friends despite their differences.
  • Undying Loyalty: Every single one of them lives to serve Ameri, and they are willing to do anything she asks of them.

    Quichelight Kimaris

Quichelight Kimaris

Voiced by: Taku Yashiro (Japanese), Tom Bauer (English), Emmanuel Bernal (Latin American Spanish)

Debut: Episode 1 (Anime), Chapter 10 (Manga)

  • Nice Guy: He is the friendliest and most cheerful member of the council when off-the-clock.
  • Youthful Freckles: Close-ups on Quiche's face show he has a splotch of freckles around his nose, representing his friendlier attitude among the council.

    Western Johnny Zagan

Western Johnny Zagan

Voiced by: Takuya Eguchi (Japanese)

Debut: Episode 1 (Anime), Chapter 10 (Manga)

  • Important Haircut: Implied with Johnny. He used to have long hair prior to joining the student council.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He's the most stern and serious member of the student council after Ameri, but he has a close friendship with Quiche and grows to both like and support Iruma when he gets better at the job.
  • Middle Name Basis: Western Johnny Zagan is only referred to by the given name Western when his full name is called. His close friends like Quiche prefer calling him by his middle name Johnny.
  • Mistaken for Gay: Johnny once told Iruma that he was going on a "date" with Quiche (he actually meant going on a patrol, see One Dialogue, Two Conversations below). Iruma looked visibly confused at what's going on.

    Smoke Astaroth

Smoke Astaroth

Voiced by: Nozomi Yamamoto (Japanese)

Debut: Episode 1 (Anime), Chapter 9 (Manga)

  • Amazing Technicolor Population: Smoke heavily stands out among the student council due to her having light-purple skin that matches her dark-purple hair, whereas every other member has humanlike skintones and more average haircolors.
  • Ambiguous Gender: Smoke was originally drawn in the manga in a way that made it hard to tell if she was a female or a very feminine male, not helped by how the student council uniform is unisex unlike the main school uniforms being separated by gender, but the anime explicitly shows her to be a girl, and later manga content with her makes her gender clearer.
  • Ascended Extra: Smoke seems to get more screen time following the Harvest Festival due to her discovering Ameri's crush on Iruma, to the point she's seen more with her trying to encourage her affections for him.
  • Eyes Out of Sight: For whatever reason, Smoke is never drawn with eyes, at most having a heavy shadow where her eyes should be. Even once she became an Ascended Extra, clear shots of her face still aren't depicted with any eyes, but she does have eyebrows. The consistent lack of drawn eyes without any explanation for why leaves it uncertain whether this is just an artistic design choice or she literally has an Eyeless Face.
  • Shipper on Deck: During the Harvest Festival, Smoke reveals that she's fully aware of how Ameri likes Iruma, and appears to be rather supportive of Ameri's desires.

    Grave Sunny Gusion

Grave Sunny Gusion

Voiced by: Mark Ishii (Japanese)

Debut: Episode 1 (Anime), Chapter 9 (Manga)

  • Flat Character: While Johnny and Quiche act as a Foil duo through their friendship, and Smoke grows to become the member closest to Ameri, Grave hasn't really had any moments to make him stand out or showcase much individual personality among the student council, mostly just existing as "that student council member that is mainly present when the group does things together".
  • You Got Guts: Grave says this to Ameri about Iruma, having come to respect his determination to fit in with them after just a couple of days.

    Romiere Ronove

Romiere Ronove

Voiced by: Tatsuhisa Suzuki (Japanese), Mike Dent (English), Miguel de León (Latin American Spanish)

Debut: Episode 26 (Anime), Chapter 49 (Manga)

Inherited Magic: Charisma

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_20210710_191841.JPG

The charismatic Attention Whore president of the Student Discipline Committee who's a year above Iruma. Sick of being ignored by the student council, Romiere decides to challenge Ameri in order to become the new Student Council President. His aim being to change the school into that of fun leisure. Romiere ends up losing the duel, but Ameri is still impressed enough by his actions to allow him to become a member of the council, much to his excitement. Since then, he's been on friendly terms with Iruma and company, such as acting as their guide at his family's Walter Park.

  • Accidental Misnaming: He's absolutely terrible at remembering names. Not once since he met Iruma has he actually called him "Iruma", even when he started liking him.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: A downplayed example, as for the most part he's the same Jerk with a Heart of Gold between mediums, but in the anime his reasoning for drawing the attention of a powerful magical beast to prevent it from destroying a shelter and killing numerous innocent civilians was made more sympathetic, where rather than being because his Attention Whore attitude made him offended that he was ignored, instead his reason for doing said action was because he's enraged that the amusement park his father built, and which he views as his home, was just destroyed, and that the masses his family worked to entertain are being targeted for death.
  • Attention Whore: He absolutely loves being the center of attention, which his bloodline power only exacerbates.
  • Big Damn Heroes: When the magical beasts attack Walter Park, he stays mostly in the background of Balam's team, but when the fusion of all three creatures is attempting one final suicide bombing with all its magical energy to level much of the park aimed right at the rescue shelter, Romiere stands behind it and uses all his bloodline power to draw its attention away from the rescue shelter and onto him. He quickly realizes he has no means to stop its actual attack and now is the main focus of this powerful oncoming attack. Only by Iruma jumping in to save him is Romiere safe.
  • Brutal Honesty: Aside from being so self-absorbed with himself, he doesn't even try to hold back how he feels about others, such as voicing his opinions about the first years ideas for the Cultural Festival.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Despite being an absolute goofball and verbally destroying everyone he tried giving advice to, he nonetheless does inspire them to do better, resulting in all of the groups gaining a level or two in badassery with their music festival performances. Ameri was counting on this, as he was the only person to have ever bested her, and he ultimately does end up being the one to help the Misfit class decide on their performance.
  • Can't Take Criticism: Even the smallest of insults will cause him to cry or act dramatically.
  • Camp Straight: He certainly looks the part with his tight clothing, flamboyant makeup and sissy demeanor. Not to mention the constant Bishie Sparkle going on around him. Yet despite that he always has at least two girls hanging around him. He also has expressed disliking towards being touched by other guys.
  • Character Catchphrase: Likes to shout "It's me!" when he wants to direct attention to himself.
  • Charm Person: Of a different sort than Elizabetta, his bloodline allows him to instantly draw the attention of everybody nearby towards him, no matter what they were doing before.
  • Cowardly Lion: He was shaking in fear when the last beast at Walter Park was about to blast the dome with all the civilians inside, but he worked up the courage to divert its blast to him instead. Thankfully, Iruma showed up to save him.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: He looks and acts like a self-absorbed man-child. However, by Ameri's own words, he is competent in assessing people and in their first year led his class to beat Ameri's in the music festival. He is also at Rank 5.
  • Defeat Means Respect: Ronove is recruited into the student council despite running against Ameri.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Ronove realized this after he drew the attention of an exploding monster directly at him. It's even lampshaded.
Narrator: Ronove did not think about this...
  • Drama Queen: Has a major flair for theatrics, to the point of always being surrounded by rose petals. He's also prone to freaking out, even crying, when anybody does anything that upsets him.
  • Draw Aggro: A potential application of his bloodline power is to force somebody or something that is attacking someone else to focus on him instead, such as when he draws the attention of the exploding monster fusion in Walter Park his way... something he didn't actually put much thought into since he was simply disliking how the monsters weren't paying any attention to him the entire time, meaning he ended up with a beam of explosive death aimed right at him with no way to personally defend himself. Thankfully, though, Iruma was able to come in and save him (and everybody else there).
  • Everyone Has Standards: He's very self-centered and wants all the attention and while he takes advantage of Ameri's personality change, he is being honest that he had nothing to do with what happened to her and is angry that they accused him of it.
  • Foil: To Soi Purson. Where Soi has a shy personality and a bloodline that makes him unnoticeable, Ronove has a boastful personality and a bloodline that makes him the center of attention.
  • Fun Personified: His It's All About Me attitude is not completely unjustified - he's a born entertainer who can throw a hell of a party, even if he spends half of it preening over how fabulous he is. There's a reason he managed to give Ameri a decent challenge in the student council presidential election.
  • Graceful Loser: Despite being dramatic over his loss, Ronove holds no ill towards Ameri and honor's his deal to close his Battler as promised.
  • Gratuitous Spanish: In the anime, he and his two fangirls have a habit of spouting random Spanish words and phrases, both when speaking and singing. They somehow do this despite how Iruma's Translator Microbes should make everything he hears change to his own language.
  • It's All About Me: He's so self-absorbed he doesn't even bother to remember other peoples names.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He's self-obsessed and often quite rude (especially to his male classmates), but there isn't a single actively malicious bone in his body, and he's both willing and able to be genuinely altruistic when the chips are down.
  • Latin Lover: While in the manga he's already a major Pretty Boy with hints of The Casanova who has a love for dancing, the anime decided to enhance this by adding a Latin aesthetic, spouting off tons of Gratuitous Spanish and even calling himself a matador while dressing like one during his song. Even his leitmotif has a Spanish flare to it.
  • Like Father, Like Son: Besides his father having a mustache, they look and act exactly the same.
  • Not Me This Time: He may have been obnoxious throughout the Student Council Arc, but when they accuse him of doing something to change Ameri's personality he quickly defends himself stating he had nothing to do with it despite taking advantage of the situation; per Ronove himself, if it's not extravagant or excessive he won't have anything to do with it. The end of the arc confirms he was right, it was really a random student named Schnare Eligos who did it solely to see her look cute.
  • Odd Friendship: With Naphula as the two are usually seen together.
  • Pokémon Speak: Under certain circumstances, usually when he gets distraught from experiencing something he dislikes, his habit of being a Third-Person Person gets exaggerated into Pokemon-like repeating of both his name and fragments of his name in place of any words.
  • Power Echoes: Adding to his bombastic and literal attention-drawing presence, the anime has it where his voice gets a reverberating echo when he's either being extra hammy or using his Charisma power.
  • Pretty Boy: He's even more of a femininely pretty than Asmodeus, including girly eyelashes and waist-length hair, and is fully willing to flaunt it.
  • Red Herring: When he's first introduced, he looks like the obvious prime suspect for Ameri's forced personality change. Nope - he's exactly the harmless, flamboyant goofball he seems to be, and his few Hidden Depths are exclusively positive ones.
  • Scary Scorpions: Subverted. He's got a thick, segmented scorpion-like tail, and appears to be a goofy but potentially threatening antagonist when he's first introduced. It soon turns out that he's completely harmless, though - the worst he does is mount a moderately competent presidential election campaign against Ameri for selfish and shallow but fundamentally benign reasons.
  • Signature Laugh: In the anime his laugh is "Lalalalalalalala".
  • Stronger Than They Look: He's actually a Rank 5 and even wins his First Year Music Fesival over Ameri.
  • Third-Person Person: Always refers to himself by his name.
  • Verbal Tic: He somehow manages to add "Ronove" to all of his sentences, even when it's not even remotely about him.

    Schnare Eligos

Schnare Eligos

Voiced by: Kentaro Tone (Japanese)

Debut: Episode 25 (Anime), Chapter 47 (Manga)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4_28.png

A Mad Scientist student a year above Iruma who is such a huge fan of Ameri that he crafted a personality-altering potion, and used it on Ameri to try to change her personality into something that he finds to be much more fitting. Eligos eventually gets caught and punished for his actions, but Ameri sends him off to the Magic Tools Research Division believing that Iruma can look after him, and because said division needs a senior student to remain active following Kiriwo's departure.

  • Abhorrent Admirer: Gender Inverted, as he’s this to the famed student council president, Ameri. He’s so passionate about her that he went so far as to concoct a spell to use on her so that he can see more of her cute side. Ameri was furious upon finding out what he’d done to her, expressing absolutely zero interest in him. In fact, the whole ordeal made Ameri realize that she was head over heels for someone else entirely.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: He wants to see Ameri look cute, and while he enjoys it for several days, once she returns to her old self, she unleashes Hell on him for his actions and force him to run the Student Council Course 50 times as payback. It's implied she went easy on him due to his actions indirectly helped her realize her feelings for Iruma and rid Ronove and his Battler for good.
  • Cheaters Never Prosper: During Iruma's First year, he is caught trying to use an Intelligence Potion in order to pass his exams, and he is the only known character who was forced to take extra classes.
  • Comically Missing the Point: He fails to understand his actions almost cost Ameri her position in the Student Council President being more interested in seeing herself look cute instead. The council members even call him out on that.
  • The Dog Was the Mastermind: He was first seen as just a background character that was a fanboy for Ameri. It is later revealed that he is the one behind Ameri's sudden change in personality.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: He actually pops up as part of a group of students cheering over Ameri at the start of the chapter/episode following Ameri's personality change. He gives off a dark aura that looks suspiciously similar to the shadowed-out mastermind behind her change, something that Iruma reacts to instinctively before ignoring it, foreshadowing that he is the one that caused her personality shift.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: He often annoys the people around him, but he is necessary for the Magic Tool Research Battler, as they need a second year student in order to be an official school club after Kirio's arrest and expulsion.
  • Got Volunteered: He is forced to be a member of the Magic Tool Research Battler by Ameri, as she deemed him too dangerous to be left alone. The club needs a second year student to be deemed official, so it also helps Iruma. It also appears that the Student Council is getting annoyed with him showing up.
  • Irony: He wanted to see Ameri look cute and win her affection, yet his actions did the opposite and helped Ameri realize her affections for Iruma.
  • It's All About Me: He doesn't even care that his actions nearly cost Ameri her position and the Student Council being disbanded so long as he could see her act cute with his spell.
  • Laser-Guided Karma:
    • He forces a personality potion on Ameri that nearly cost her position as Student President, to which Ameri delivers the karma by forcing him to run the Student Council training course 50 times.
    • Later during Iruma's First Year, he uses an Intelligence Potion to pass his exams, but is caught and sentenced to extra classes.
    • During the Rookie Hunt of Iruma's Second-Year he creates a giant machine with the purpose of grabbing every first year and force them into the Magical Tool Research Battler. This serious threat to student safety and forceful tactics leads to Ameri interceding and stopping him with a kick. As a further punishment the whole Battler is forbidden from actively pursuing new members.
  • Mad Scientist: Following his forced joining of the Magic Tool Research Battler, he falls into this role, pumping out various crazy creations since he got there, to the point where, when Iruma finally has a reason to visit, it's been turned into a cluttered mess full of numerous magical tools, along with various materials for making them.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: In the arc where he's formally introduced, he receives less than 4 pages of screen time. Yet, he's entirely responsible for said arc's inciting incident - Ameri's personality change. To go even further, the arc ends with Ameri fully realizing that she's in love with Iruma and resolving to win his heart one day.
  • Stalker with a Crush: He's obsessed with Ameri and wanted nothing more than to see her act cute. Ameri, on her part, despises him and wants nothing to do with him.
  • Status Infliction Attack: He will make concoctions and devices to deliver them to his targets.
    • During Iruma's first year, he makes a personality changing drug and inflicts it on Ameri to see her gushing cute side.
    • During Iruma's second year Rookie Hunt to gain more members to their Battler, he saves Iruma, Azz, and Clara from a crowd of other students trying to stop their gaining any new first years with a machine that blasts out a paralysis potion.

  • The Announcer: Will pop up almost any time an event is going on at Babyls to act as its main announcer for the students watching.
  • A Day in the Limelight: He and his Broadcast Division got to win the Battler Party during Iruma's first-year due to their incredible broadcast efforts for said event along with helping to keep everyone calm during the Kiriwo incident.
  • The Leader: Serves as the president of Babyls' Broadcasting Division.
  • Nice Guy: Even though his Broadcasting Division won the Battler Party overall, Baraki's an all around nice guy who shows his appreciation for Iruma's efforts in the Battler Party by giving him tickets to a Kuromu concert.
  • Rank Up: He's mentioned to be at Rank 3 (Gimmel) at the tail end of the Battler Party.
    • Baraki achieves a double-Rank Up to Rank 5 (Hé) due to his Battler division winning the Battler Party.
  • Recurring Character: While Baraki's not the most important character when it comes to the overall plot, he pops up a lot due to the need for an announcer when it comes to school events.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Baraki giving Iruma tickets to a Kuromu concert is what started Iruma's whole evidol journey and strengthened his friendship with Kerori.

    Garu

Garu

Debut: Episode 14 (Anime), Chapter 24 (Manga)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/irumakungaru.jpg

A senior student who serves as the president of the Magical Development Division. Azz ends up becoming a temporary member of Garu's division during the time that Iruma had to become a temporary member of the student council, which Garu is all for as he wants to utilize Azz's fire-magic for his division's magic projects.

  • All There in the Manual: Fans were interested in knowing what his name was, which the author chose to reveal it in one of her online tweets.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: He appears during the Royal Classroom arc where Azz uses his past connection with the Magical Development Division to convince Garu to put in a good word for the Misfit class with some of the teachers that Garu has connections with. Garu accepts it after hearing that Azz is now willing to provide his fire-magic for their magical development projects (which is something that Azz originally refused to provide for them when he was a temporary member of Garu's division).
  • Curtains Match the Window: Eyes and hair are both purple.
  • A Day in the Limelight: The magic development projects that he and his Magical Development Division got to show off during the Battler Party managed to score them 2nd place. Losing only to Baraki's Broadcasting Division.
  • The Leader: Serves as the president of Babyls' Magical Development Division.
  • No Name Given: He went unnamed in the manga.
  • Signature Headgear: His defining character feature is the goggles that he wears as a member of the Magical Development Division.

    Judain Beem

Judain Beem

Debut: Chapter 331 (Manga)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/irumakunbeem.jpg
Click to see Beem's uncovered face.

A senior student of the Art Division who's three years above Iruma's year. Beem has a knack for drawing art pieces that instill fear within those who look upon their work. Shown to be a lazy person who lies on the floor, Beem's usually doing their own thing with fellow Art junior, Marnie, within the division. However, when Iruma's division arrives at the Art Division seeking out help to make a Haunted House for their Battler Party exhibit, Beem and Marnie get assigned to help them out.

  • Allegorical Character: An In-Universe example, but it's made clear after Beem explains the character of the "Bowing Palome" that Palome is an allegory for Beem's own struggles with their love for art. Just as Palome was an "ugly woman" who worked up the nerve to smile towards others only to terrify them, Beem gives off the impression of a Mad Artist due to their Face of a Thug and nightmarish paintings but ultimately just loves to paint. And just as Palome has herself sealed into a painting so others could forever see her expressions and enjoy it from within the painting, Beem was forced to give up art but is forever immortalized with the "Bowing Palome" and is overjoyed when learning Silvia loves their work. Palome's sister, "Galna", by contrast represents the newfound joy Beem found in meeting the Magical Tools Battler, Silvia in particular, and regaining the passion to make art, just as it was Galva who pushed Palome into smiling more and sharing it with others.
  • Ambiguous Gender: It's not made clear if Beem's a boy or girl. They're only ever referred to with gender neutral terminology, their uniform is a modified version of the girls uniform but Opera was known to have worn both uniforms, and Marnie doesn't even seem to know despite knowing Beem the longest. Even in flashbacks to when they were a child, they didn't wear any gendered clothing nor were they addressed by their family as any specific gender.
  • Big Guy, Little Guy: In the Art Division, they're the big guy to Marnie's little guy.
  • Black Eyes of Crazy: Along with the black eyes, there's a bit of craziness to Beem as seen when they get "hyped" to help with creating Iruma's Haunted House. Iruma and Silvia fear for the worst.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: They are rather odd. When first introduced, they come across as a Lazy Bum, just lying around in the Art Battler room all day long. But when they are given a project that interests them, they show a child like level of excitment and energy, and with that some childish behaviors (particularly when they don't get what they want or want cake). Despite all this, they are a brilliant painter as their first published work single handedly got Silvia interested in art and their sequel piece to that work was called a true masterpiece by Kalego. The only trouble is that for whatever reason, all of their paintings are absolutely terrifying, almost to mind breaking levels.
  • Character Focus: They share the focus with Silvia in the Haunted House Batra story arc.
  • Early Installment Character-Design Difference: In their opening chapter, they are drawn with sharp but uniform black teeth. The following chapter on, they are drawn with mostly short greyish teeth but with two large black canines that stick out from the rest.
  • Establishing Character Moment: They're introduced grabbing a drawing book off a high shelf for the short Marnie while lazily lying on a box, which shows that Beem's someone who will still help out despite their laziness.
  • Eyes Out of Sight: Beem's hair bangs cover over their eyes. Most likely to hide their black eyes.
  • Face of a Thug: Judain looks like something from your nightmares, but they are surprisingly a nice person. They just love to paint, despite said painting giving people night terrors. When Iruma refuses to indulge on how their haunted house works, Judain threw a tantrum until Iruma pacified them with cake. Sylvia eventually lets them open up about Palome, and they begin brainstorming their ideas with them.
  • Horned Humanoid: Has a pair of horns that look quite similar to deer antlers.
  • In-Universe Nickname: They're Marnie's fellow "Corner Dweller" in the Art Division.
  • Jump Scare: The end of chapter 332 provides one with Beem's face reveal where it turns out hiding behind Beem's head bangs is a scary looking pair of black eyes, and black spiked teeth.
  • Lazy Bum: Beem's usually seen lying on the floor or on top of objects like boxes, which being covered up by their long unkempt hair just makes it look like there's a large bush of hair lying in the room. This appears to largely be due to a lack of motivation, particularly since they have been forced to burn all of their finished paintings to avoid terrorizing anyone with them, and once they are given a project to be excited about, they are extremely energetic.
  • Mad Artist: Subverted. Their paintings tend to scare even someone like Kalego and Murmur shitless that would make Junji Ito proud, and keep in mind that Kalego is The Stoic and Murmur is a psychiatrist (which says a lot because Kalego's Cerebus manifests in response to his mental state). But they are a well-meaning person with no malicious intent. They just want to share their world with others despite unintentionally creating horror. This actually upsets Silvia when Kalego and Murmur decides against displaying their art for Iruma's haunted house.
  • Mentor Archetype: Serves as this towards Silvia when it comes to her artwork. Beem makes it clear that drawings are nothing if one doesn't provide story and characterization to what's being drawn, which Silvia admits that she never thought about such stuff for the pictures she draws.
  • Plot Device: A picture that Beem drew called the "Bowing Palome" is displayed in a book that Silvia once read in the past, and jumpstarted her interest in drawing.
  • Scary Teeth: Beem has black spiked teeth.
  • Wild Hair: Beem has a massive set of long Messy Hair that goes all the way down to their feet. When they're lying on the floor face-down, Beem's completely covered up by their hair, which makes Beem look like a large bush of hair.

    Eiko

Eiko

Voiced by: Asami Haruna (Japanese), Skyler Davenport (English), Melissa Hernández (Latin American Spanish)

Debut: Episode 1 (Anime), Chapter 1 (Manga)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/8534fd90_c067_4522_986b_f1af8318d587.jpeg

The girl Iruma saved on the first day of school when his duel with Azz almost resulted in her getting struck. She's had a crush on him ever since, but is unable to properly approach him.

  • Ascended Extra: Gets a lot more screen time in the anime compared to the manga.
  • Birds of a Feather: From the moment the two first properly met and actually talked to each other, she and Azz formed a fast and strong friendship based on their obsessive adoration of Iruma, with them co-operating in their efforts to aid him however they can, along with just general gushing about whatever cool thing he's done recently.
  • Charles Atlas Superpower: Eiko's constant stalking of Iruma is revealed in the Volume 14 omake to have been increasing her agility and stealth abilities, which got her unbeknownst praise from Ameri during the Harvest Festival.
  • Failed a Spot Check: After Iruma makes the sakura tree bloom, Eiko wishes to have a chance to sit under the tree with Iruma. She hands her garbage over to a person collecting it, not realizing it is Iruma himself.
  • Love Makes You Dumb: In a bizarre inversion, her obsession with Iruma results in her heavily studying every school subject in her efforts to help him however she can. The end result is her going from decently average in grades to being in the Top 10 students of her year.
  • Missed Him by That Much: A Running Gag with her in the anime is that she keeps missing her chance to talk to Iruma.
  • Rescue Romance: The anime shows that after being saved by Iruma from Azz's attack, she developes a crush on him. She later gets saved by Ameri, and ends up having a crush on her too.
  • Satellite Love Interest: In both the manga and anime, a good majority of her lines and actions revolve around Iruma. Whether it's stalking him, talking about him, or doing something else related to him.
  • Stalker with a Crush: Since the day he saved her, she fell for Iruma and often follows him around in an attempt to get close enough to talk to him.
  • This Is a Drill: A Running Gag of her's is that when she gets too worked up, she starts spinning around and drills into the ground head first.
  • Those Two Girls: Part of her Ascended Extra status in the anime also involves making Gaako, the dragon-like demon girl who is best friends with Eiko, into an Ascended Extra as well. The majority of the time when Eiko shows up in the series, it's near-guaranteed that Gaako isn't far away, and most of the duo's appearances are spent interacting with each other as they react to everything happening around Iruma.

    Gaako

Gaako

Voiced by: Chitose Morinaga (Japanese), Kira Buckland (English), Mariana Ortiz (Latin American Spanish)

Debut: Episode 1 (Anime), Chapter 30 (Manga)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/irumakungaako.jpg

A dragon-like demon girl who's often seen with Eiko.

  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Appears as early as episode 1 in the anime. In the manga, she doesn't appear until the Battler Party.
  • Ascended Extra: Compared to the manga, Gaako gets a lot more screen-time where she's almost always seen alongside Eiko.
  • Big Eater: Anytime she is on screen, expect her to be seen eating something.
  • Breath Weapon: While being a Recurring Extra means we don't see its combat potential, when particularly shocked by Eiko's obsessions Gaako will spit a stream of fire from her mouth, befitting the Draconic Humanoid she is.
  • Cute Monster Girl: Despite being a Draconic Humanoid with a heavy emphasis on "dragon", she has soft and rounded features that still make her a decently cute girl.
  • Draconic Humanoid: While Gaako is as humanoid as any other demon, she looks more like a bipedal dragon, making her stand out even as a background character in the manga.
  • Our Demons Are Different: She's a demon that looks like and has the Breath Weapon of a dragon.
  • Recurring Extra: In the manga, she only appears in brief background scenes every few chapters. Even her Ascended Extra role in the anime is just acting as a Satellite Character to plot-irrelevant side character Eiko
  • Satellite Character: In the anime, she's basically there for Eiko to have someone to interact with.
  • Those Two Girls: As a part of her Ascended Extra status, Gaako gets paired up with Eiko in the anime where the two of them are often seen interacting with one another, especially when it comes to reacting to Iruma's actions.

    Dosanko

Dosanko

Voiced by: Shiori Izawa (Japanese), Sarah Anne Williams (English), Nycolle González (Latin American Spanish)

Debut: Episode 1 (Anime), Chapter 18 (Manga)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/8d03de99_10b7_4721_b524_c093a41df263.jpeg

A girl often found hanging in crowds, usually acting haughty. She'll also sometimes be seen alongside the Haruno/Azuki/Konatsu trio as a 4th member of the group.

  • Adaptational Early Appearance: She's seen alongside Haruno, Azuki, and Konatsu for the entrance ceremony in the first episode of the anime while in the manga, their first appearance isn't until they're seen trying to hit on Azz before the start of the Battler Party rookie hunt.
  • Amazing Technicolor Population: Her entire body besides her eye and red lips is a light shade of purple.
  • Ascended Extra: Downplayed since, while she's not a major or secondary character, in the anime she shows up in almost every episode which shows bits of her personality, when in the manga she only had background appearances, with the closest thing to a major appearance being chapter 90.
  • Cyclops: She only has one eye.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Dosanko along with the Haruno/Azuki/Konatsu trio get a chapter to themselves attending a Sabbath with Iruma and some of the guys.
  • Gonk: She's a short and stubby purple-triangle-looking young lady with big lips, making her not as attractive as she sees herself.
  • Lovable Alpha Bitch: She normally acts very haughty, seeing herself above every other girl and considering herself a major-league beauty, and almost always shows up in a posse of the other girl extras, but despite this, she never does anything harmful, and in fact is fully open to complimenting people if they match her standards for things besides beauty, which are actually pretty reasonable.
  • The Noseless: Her bizarre demonic body completely lacks any kind of nose, which the Girl Trio note in the anime seems to make her the only person unaffected by the horrific Signature Scent of Naphula.
  • Proud Beauty: Despite not having an attractive body, at least by human standards, she often acts like she's the World's Most Beautiful Woman. Her sheer level of confidence in her looks actually lands her in the Succubus Battler later on.
  • Readings Are Off the Scale: When Professor Raim used her Ero-Scope on her, her number is censored but heavily suggested to be quite bad.
  • Recurring Extra: She may not be a major character, but she shows up in almost every episode in semi-notable roles, often hanging around with the other, less noteworthy girl extras as well.

    Haruno, Azuki, and Konatsu

Haruno voiced by: Ayako Mitani (Japanese), Kira Buckland (English), Marysol Lobo (Latin American Spanish)

Azuki voiced by: Nozomi Yamamoto (Japanese), Maureen Price (English), Karla Tovar (Latin American Spanish)

Konatsu voiced by: Yuka Maihara (Japanese), Jennifer Losi (English), Jocelyn Robles (Latin American Spanish)

Debut (all three): Episode 1 (Anime), Chapter 18 (Manga)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/5c845096_dee0_42c6_b7d9_3312a7a4ca37.jpeg

A trio of girls often seen hanging around Dosanko.

  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Haruno, Azuki, and Konatsu appear with Dosanko for the entrance ceremony in the first episode of the anime while in the manga, their first appearance isn't until they're seen trying to hit on Azz before the start of the Battler Party rookie hunt.
  • Ascended Extra: They hold a similar case to Dosanko, in that outside of chapter 90 they're primarily background characters in the manga, while the anime bumps them up to semi-regular extras, though nowhere near the same extent as Dosanko. Eventually even in the manga they begin to gain a bit more relevance, mainly due to their friendships with Agares and Gaap that began during the Harvest Festival.
  • Blonde, Brunette, Redhead: In the World of Technicolor Hair way. Haruno has pink hair (redhead), Azuki has blue hair (brunette), and Konatsu is blonde.
  • A Day in the Limelight: The trio and Dosanko get a chapter to themselves attending a Sabbath with Iruma and some of the guys.
  • Has a Type: Each of them expresses interest in one of the guys at the "sabbath" from chapter 90, pointing out what they like about them. Konatsu likes strong men such as Sabro, Azuki likes cool "bad boys" such as Jazz, and Haruno likes nice and cute boys such as Iruma (with her considering the fact he's the principal's grandson as a bonus)
  • Identical Stranger: Konatsu looks a lot like Eiko, just with longer hair and different horns. It is unknown if they are related.
  • Recurring Extra: Like Dosanko, the anime has them often pop up in semi-notable roles, though unlike Dosanko they mainly either act as Dosanko's Girl Posse (but without any of the negative connotations of that trope) or serve as the main representatives of background students.
  • Satellite Character: While they do have some character outside of it, both in chapter 90 of the manga and their numerous appearances in the anime, their personalities in the anime are primarily developed through their interactions with Dosanko.

    Dorodoro Brothers

Ichiro & Niro Androalphus

Ichiro voiced by: Kentaro Kumagai (Japanese), Alejandro Saab (English)

Niro voiced by: Sho Nogami (Japanese), Caleb Yen (English)

Debut (both): Episode 48 (Anime), Chapter 102 (Manga)

Inherited Magic: Trigger

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/5_4.JPG
Ichiro on the right, Niro on the left.

A pair of older students who were forced to repeat as first-years due to ditching school in order to become soldiers on a battlefield. One day, their battlefield master leaves them to take a tutoring job at Babyls, which the Dorodoro Brothers decide to return to school in order to participate in the Harvest Festival and get their master back. They proceed to challenge the Azz/Sabro pair to a point harvesting duel believing that said pair is their master's current pupils.

  • Animal Motifs: Peacocks. Not only they associate their Bloodline like a Peacock displaying their tails, they both have distinctive hair resembling feathers on a peacock's tail; Ichiro has three on the top of his head, Niro has two that come from the back of his head.
  • Bait-and-Switch: During the Harvest Festival, they come after Azz and Sabro out of jealousy for taking up the attention of their teacher. In a flashback, their teacher appears to be Balam, he wears an outfit that is very similar to what Balam wears at present day and wears a mask. There is even a tree vine snaking up from the ground in his office. But when he finally takes off his mask, it was actually Furfur.
  • Blessed with Suck: How both of them initially see their Bloodline, because they initially believed it can only be used to piss others off, adding more hate on top of being members of the Androalphus family. Their master helps them see otherwise.
  • Blood Knight: The both of them ever since they were young, to the extent that just after entering Babyls, they ran off to fight in a battlefield. This also makes them black sheeps to their family, who are famed for using their Bloodline to manipulate negotiations.
  • Brains and Brawn: Effectively how they work; Niro's the brains, guiding Ichiro while on his back and looks up vital info on their targets, mainly to figure out what's the best thing to say with their Bloodline. Ichiro's the Brawn, moving flawlessly even with his brother on his back and attacking with his Wide Range Agile Spear.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Within the Harvest Festival, chapters 113 and 114 are this. Along with being the proper introduction for the Dorodoro Brothers, these chapters delve into their Backstory where they ran off to become soldiers on a battlefield, and became pupils of General Furfur.
  • Did Not Think This Through: They ran into a intense battlefield just after entering school looking to finally get glory in battle. They nearly died, being two rookies entering an intense battle, and are only alive because their master comes across their sorry asses.
  • Gone Horribly Right: They try to provoke Azz into attacking him to get him disqualified from the Harvest Festival but they succeed in enraging him so much that he enters his wicked phase, at which point his attacks are so powerful that they can't let him hit them because he'll kill them.
  • Graceful Loser: The both of them are mix of this and Sore Loser. While they're mad that they lost, they have no problem upholding their side of the bargain and let Azz and Sabro take the Flaringo Apple and all their points, only to challenge them immediately again to another contest in the swamps.
  • I Shall Taunt You: What their Bloodline, Trigger, essentially is, allowing them to drive anyone mad with rage with their voice.
  • Mistaken Identity: They mistook Azz and Sabro as Furfur's students due to their combat ability, while in actuality they were taught by Balam. The misunderstanding was clarified after the Harvest Festival and they meeted up with Furfur's actual students to ask their opinion about him.
  • Rank Up: They're mentioned by Kalego during their Harvest Festival promotions to have been at Rank 1 (Aleph).
    • The Dorodoro Brothers both achieve a double-Rank Up to Rank 3 (Gimmel) for tying for 5th place in the Harvest Festival.
  • Undying Loyalty: They have this toward their master, who found them on the battlefield and made them into the soldiers they are now.

    Koko Orobas (Minor Spoilers

Koko Orobas

Voiced by: Hiroki Yasumoto (Japanese), Jonah Scott (English)

Debut: Episode 48 (Anime), Chapter 102 (Manga)

Inherited Magic: Trauma

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/orobas.png

A knowledgeable first-year student introduced in the Harvest Festival who's known for always ending up in 2nd place on school exams. The latter part resulting in rumors spreading at Babyls that Orobas is part of the mysterious Cult of Numeral 2. With the help of his partner, Ocho, the two of them set out to eliminate all the students in the Misfit Class from the Harvest Festival.

It later turns out that Orobas is actually an all around good person who was manipulated by Ocho's magic into believing that the misfits needed to be defeated. In addition, he's someone who fights fair, and that him always ending up in 2nd place is just pure coincidence, much to his annoyance as he really is trying to get top score.

  • Always Second Best: How he's introduced! He placed second in the school's entrance exam, as well as in every subsequent exam after that. In addition, he seems to have developed a reputation among the students of Babyls as "the second place guy", and the narration even refers to him as The Second Place Victor! It's to the point people believe that he's intentionally doing it and belongs to a mysterious group called "The Cult of Numeral 2", which apparently loves and worships the number. While this all turns out to just be a coincidence, it bothers him so much that he desperately wants to get rid of the title by placing first in the Harvest Festival.
  • Animal Motifs: His character design is based on a horse. Particularly, his mane-like ponytail, and his hoofed feet.
  • Arc Villain: He serves as the antagonist of the Harvest Festival Arc trying to get the Misfit students to fail. Subverted at the end of the arc, as he was really more of a pawn set up by the demon Ocho, who was controlling him.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: He finally doesn't end up placing second in something, like he wanted... because he places third in the Harvest Festival instead. However he does not seem to mind it that much aside from not wanting to be known as the guy who got third place.
  • Contrived Coincidence: He always gets second place in everything he does, to the point that people assume he's doing it on purpose. It's really just an extended string of him happening to place in second despite his best efforts.
  • Easily Forgiven: He apologizes for all of the dirty tricks he did during the Harvest Festival, but the Misfit Class forgives him as they claim he was just giving it his all and he technically didn't break any rules. Later justified that he was just being controlled and had no real intentions of hurting others.
  • Foreshadowing: While outlining how he always gets second, it's shown that Schneider beats him in exams while Azz outdoes him in practical tests. His defeat in the Harvest Festival comes about from Schneider tricking him and Azz beating him up.
  • Good All Along: He served as the Arc Villain of the Harvest Festival Arc, yet was being controlled the whole time and proves to be an honest guy once he's back to normal.
  • Graceful Loser: He accepted his loss against Iruma and Lied. If anything he was happy they beat him so long as he didn't get second place again, and was actually pleased he got 3rd place due to the situation.
  • Here We Go Again!: After he gets third place in the Harvest Festival and ranks up to 3, his friends start to suggest that he is a worshiper of the number 3 now. He just tells them to not even start that.
  • Hidden Depths: The Music Festival reveals that Orobas has some skills at singing.
  • I Know What You Fear: His bloodline magic, Trauma, allows him to create illusions of his opponents' biggest fear. That said, there are some limitations to this. First, the illusion has to be attached to something, whether it's an object or a person, and attacking the illusion anchor will dispel the illusion. Second, the illusions automatically bring out a person's worst fear, with Orobas completely unaware of and unable to control what the target sees. Consequently, he can't capitalize on their fears since he won't know it, and there's always the risk that what somebody fears puts them into a murderous frenzy towards the anchor, even if it was attached to himself. This also means that despite using it on Iruma, Orobas doesn't learn that he's human.
  • It Runs in the Family: He mentions that everybody in his family has a habit of getting second place at everything they do. Since this keeps happening despite all of them giving their best each time, he decides during the Harvest Festival to try and break this bloodline-wide streak... and he does. By placing third this time instead.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: When he seemingly won first place in the Harvest Festival, he has the realization of every dishonest act he used to get it.
  • Near-Villain Victory: He nearly won the Havest Festival, until Jazz pointed out that the pot needed to plant the Legendary Leaf is worth 50.000 points and that the judges forgot to include it to Iruma and Lied's point total.
  • Pyrrhic Victory: He wins the Harvest Festival and proves he's not obsessed with being Number 2, but only by completely compromising his principles to the point that he only feels ashamed of himself. He's actually happy when it's revealed Lied and Iruma are the ones who really won, as he's still not in second place (he's third) and his guilty conscience is lessened by the Misfits triumphing despite his actions.
  • Rank Up: At the start of the Harvest Festival, he's mentioned to be at Rank 2 (Bet).
    • Orobas achieves Rank 3 (Gimmel) for scoring as high as 3rd place in the Harvest Festival.
  • Toxic Friend Influence: Turns out he's normally pretty honest and hard-working for a demon, with him actually wanting to avoid using his powers in order to win "fair and square". However, he has a "friend" called Ocho that coerces and influences him into going against his personal standards and scruples, and any time he starts thinking about what he's doing, Ocho will steer him back onto the "bad" path.

Naphula Ampsey

Debut: Episode 48 (Anime), Chapter 102 (Manga)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_20210625_220916.JPG
Click here to see Naphula without the cloak

An odd-looking student that gives off a horrible stench. Introduced during the Harvest Festival, Naphula decides to help Iruma search for the Legendary Leaf due to him taking the time to get her out of a plant that she was tangled up in.

Unbeknownst to everyone taking part in the festival, Naphula's actually a newly recruited member for Ameri's student council, and that her assignment was to help a participant search for the Legendary Leaf if they chose to help her. Since then, Naphula's usually seen continuing her work for the student council.

  • A Day in the Limelight: Chapter 209 is centered around her. Naphula replaces Kerori for a girl party with Ameri, Clara, and Elizabetta where they spend their time discussing fashion. It's also the chapter where readers get their first look at the normal Naphula.
  • Ambiguous Gender: Naphula wears an all-encompassing hooded cloak similar to Comecome, resulting in most people having absolutely no clue what gender she was. It took until Chapter 209 to reveal that she is actually a girl, something that surprises everybody who only knew her gender-ambiguous appearance when they first see her true appearance and learn she's Naphula.
  • Beautiful All Along: As her profile pictures indicate, the ridiculous, stinky little gremlin who befriends Iruma and Lied is actually a remarkably pretty girl when she's out of her magical cloak.
  • Costumes Change Your Size: She tends to wear a magical cloak that can alter her height. She uses it to make herself much smaller than her real size.
  • Damsel in Distress: While Iruma was looking for the legendary leaf, he finds her trapped in vines and wanted to save her despite Ali's protest. After freeing her, she hugs him intensely while Iruma could barely hold his breath.
  • Foreshadowing: During the music festival arc, Ronove carries Naphula around the school to visit all of the first year students who are preparing their acts, with his only complaint being that Naphula smells. This is coming from a man who gets horribly disturbed at the idea of touching another man even to shake hands. It later is revealed that Naphula is indeed a girl, something Ronove seems to have known all along.
  • In the Hood: Naphula mostly wears a hooded cloak that obscures all physical features.
  • Samus Is a Girl: Naphula is revealed to be a girl when she isn't wearing her cloak.
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: She is noted to be very cute when she isn't covered by her cloak.
  • Shrinking Violet: She doesn't do very well dealing with other people as her true self instead of as her miniature Ambiguous Gender identity, with her getting jittery and restless. She becomes an outright Nervous Wreck with Luminescent Blush when Iruma recognizes her by her Signature Scent, not handling well the idea of a boy she's close to learning her true girl identity, especially him seeing her trying to look prettier.
  • Signature Scent: Gives off an odor that is unpleasant to strangers but fine for those who are trusted. When Naphula was walking without her cloak on, Iruma was able to identify her from a whiff when they passed by each other, despite both her wearing tons of scent-masking perfume and him never seeing her true identity before.
  • Sizeshifter: Her signature hooded cloak is a magic tool that grants the ability to freely shift the wearers height, which helps with hiding her true identity.
  • Tombstone Teeth: One of the only visible parts under her cloak (aside from her eyes) are a set of piano key-like perfectly straight teeth. This isn't stylization to emphasize her goofy tininess, either, as when her mouth is open in her normal form they're still just as straight and long.
  • The Unintelligible: Most of Naphula's speech consists solely of the sound "gyo" in various inflections. While those who are close enough to her are capable of experiencing a partial case of Intelligible Unintelligible, being able to intuit her intentions, only somebody like Kamui can understand what she's actually saying. It's revealed in Chapter 209 that she can speak the common tongue when she feels comfortable, though replacing some syllables with "gyo", but the more nervous and uncomfortable she gets the more she devolves into "gyo" speak.

  • Chekhov's Gunman: After Jazz and Allocer go to the disqualification tent due to Jazz's disqualification, they find Walb having also been disqualified, who helps provide them information to get back at Orobas.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: While he's not properly introduced until the Harvest Festival, Walb can be seen with his division leader, Baraki, when they're announced as the winners of the Battler Party.
  • Mr. Exposition: At the start of the Harvest Festival, he serves the role of introducing the new big names that will be taking part in the competition, such as pointing out Orobas, Naphula, and the Dorodoro brothers.

    Bobo Solas

Bobo Solas

Debut: Episode 48 (Anime), Chapter 105 (Manga)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/irumakunbobo.jpg

A student in the Diabotany Division.

  • Adaptational Early Appearance: In the anime, Bobo can be seen a tad earlier compared to his first manga appearance. Instead of first appearing within the Harvest Festival, he can be seen amongst the first-years waiting at the festival's entrance for it to start.
  • The Announcer: He serves as the spokesperson for an Illegal Gambling Den that Allocer and Jazz start up at the Harvest Festival's disqualification tent.
  • The Cameo: During Iruma and company's 2nd year Rookie Hunt, Bobo makes a brief appearance as one of the students trying to recruit students for his division.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: He tries to screw over his teammates by just splitting the Harvest Festival ingredients they gathered up between himself and Allocer only to get tricked in return by Allocer, who takes all the ingredients for himself and Jazz.
  • The Leader: Served as the leader for his Harvest Festival team due to his knowledge of demon plants.
  • Oh, Crap!: The moment he realizes that Allocer tricked him into losing all the points that Bobo gathered up in the early stages of the festival.
  • Out-Gambitted: He comes up with a plan to take the Harvest Festival points from his teammates by splitting the turn-in with just Allocer only to lose it all due to Allocer and Jazz's fake report-counter scheme.
  • Satellite Character: His role in the story was basically to show off the results of Allocer and Jazz's trickster training from General Furfur.

    Marnie Vine

Marnie Vine

Debut: Chapter 328 (Manga)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/irumakunmarnievine.jpg

Garson's shy older sister, who's a student in the Art Division. Due to her short body, Marnie's only able to make small works of art, such as drawing flyers or posters, but she's shown to be really good at it. Marnie's usually doing her own thing with her fellow Art senior, Beem, within the division. However, when Iruma's division arrives at the Art Division seeking out help to make a Haunted House for their Battler Party exhibit, Marnie and Beem get assigned to help them out.

  • Big Guy, Little Guy: In the Art Division, she's the short guy to Beem's big guy.
  • Decoy Protagonist: Arc specific variant. The beginning of her debut arc seems to hint that she's going to get the spotlight, having an Early-Bird Cameo and getting the bulk of an entire chapter establishing her character before meeting Iruma and Silvia proper, following the likes of similar focus arcs for characters like Lied, Kerori, or Purson. Fellow newcomer Beem however is the one receiving the focus in that arc, with Marnie acting as a vehicle for Iruma and Silvia to meet them, with Marnie being a supporting character in the arc instead.
  • Distinctive Appearances: She has multicolored hair on her bangs and the end of her long hair.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Marnie's proper introduction isn't until chapter 331, but she can be briefly seen at the start of chapter 328 putting up posters for the Battler Party.
  • Hiding Behind Your Bangs: As a part of her shy persona, Marnie's bangs cover her left eye.
  • In-Universe Nickname: She calls herself and Beem the "Corner Dwellers" of the Art Division due to them being largely ignored by the rest of the students in the division. As the name suggests, Marnie and Beem are basically off doing their own thing in the corner.
  • Nervous Wreck: She tends to really freak out and become scared whenever the focus is placed on her. So much so that Marnie will end up melting to the floor.
  • Running Gag: Marnie melts to the floor whenever her fears or nervousness kicks in.

Team Iruma

    Chima Crocell

Chima Crocell

Debut: Chapter 185 (Manga)

Inherited Magic: Ice Façade

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/0215_008.png

Kerori Crocell's shy little sister. Chima ends up taking a liking to Iruma during the Evidol Games, which she decides to enroll into Babyls a year below her sister in order to get closer to him. She ended up dropping her shy persona, and works hard for the entrance exam to the point that Chima manages to achieve top score in her grade. Chima then befriends Sabro's little sister, Silvia, on the first day of school, and for the Heartbreaker Promotion Exam, Chima ends up on Team Iruma, much to her happiness. Later on, Chima joins Babyls' Magic Tools Research division in order to continue chasing after Iruma.

  • Alliterative Name: Both her first and last name start with C.
  • Bridal Carry: She really wants this to happen at some point in the Heartbreaker Competition with Iruma holding her. Iruma ends up carrying her partner Garson like this in their escape with Chima on Iruma's back.
  • Bullying a Dragon: She is truly livid when she thinks Sheeda is purposefully flirting with Iruma after Iruma's attack causes a lot of clothing damage on her. Chima thinks her ice magic is sufficient to hurt Sheeda, but Sheeda just kicks through the ice and pops Chima's balloon.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl:
    • She is fully aware of the competition she has from Ameri, so she takes every opportunity she can to be close to Iruma, which in turn enflames the same attitude in Ameri herself.
    • During the Heartbreaker Competition, she becomes furious when Sheeda accidentally shows off her near naked body to Iruma when the latter causes the teacher to undergo Clothing Damage. She even references her jealousy as a driving emotion in her assault on Sheeda.
    • When Garson ends up in the Bridal Carry with Iruma while escaping, she does not hesistate to yell at him to move while in free-fall.
  • Didn't Think This Through: She goads Sheeda to fight her to put her in her place thinking she's enough to fight her. She badly underestimates her opponent which costs her one of her teams balloons, something Sheeda herself silently scolds her for.
  • Grade Skipper: A side chapter shows that she actually wasn't supposed to go to Babyls for 2-3 years. However, she convinces her mother to let her go to be closer to Iruma if she could get the highest score on the entrance exam.
  • Holding Hands: When she is partnered with Iruma for his Second-year Rank Evaluation Exam she convinces him there is a rule that partners must hold hands before the event starts. When other teams are shown, it is clear this isn't a real regulation but an excuse Chima uses to hold Iruma's hand.
  • Hold the Line: While not her intention, when she attacks Sheeda with two ice attacks and it costs her her balloon being popped, it stalls Sheeda long enough for Garson to make an escape route through the floor.
  • An Ice Person: Like her older sister, her Ice Façade bloodline magic allow her to create ice. She also suffers from the same Power Incontinence and create huge chunks of ice when excited.
  • Important Haircut: It's later revealed she cut her hair after Iruma complimented her on her eyes, which he stated he didn't notice at first since they were covered by her bangs.
  • Love Confession: She all but states this to Iruma, holding his hand while saying she will take "The Number One spot". Iruma, being Iruma, this goes right over his head, thinking she is still talking about school.
  • Luminescent Blush: Almost as soon she and Iruma meet again at Babyls, she becomes a blushing mess who can barely talk. Ameri seeing the scene takes a moment to realize that this means she's also fallen for Iruma and become a love rival.
  • Not So Stoic: She's as heavy of an Emotionless Girl normally as her sister, but in the presence of Iruma she gets much more emotive, not only blushing immensely but giving a gentle smile after he complemented her. Just like her sister, it causes her to experience slight Power Incontinence, with her creating massive bursts of ice when excited by the sight of Iruma, though her heavy training before entering Babyls means she doesn't faint from getting overly emotional.
  • Older Than They Look: Zigzagged. While her short stature that makes her smaller than even Iruma can cause one to think she is much younger, it is initially implied she's actually only a year younger than her sister as she joins the school year after her sister. The truth is she was supposed to go to Babyls in 2-3 years, making her 11 or 12, but she still looks more like a small child than a preteen too.
  • Power Incontinence: Like her older sister, the temperature decreases a few dozen degrees and ice appears whenever she gets angry, but unlike her sister, she has enough control over her magic that it doesn't cause (unintentional) casualties.
  • Rescue Romance: Her crush on Iruma comes about after he saves her from being injured during the Evil-Idol games after she got into the arena to cheer her sister on. Him complimenting her on her eyes afterwards just sealed it.
  • The Rival: She declares to Ameri that she will not lose to her. Ameri is actually pleased by this, as she loves a challenge. This abruptly changes when Ameri realizes she wasn't declaring her a school rival but a love rival for Iruma.
  • Secret-Keeper: Given that she's Kerori's sister, Chima knows about her sister's work as evidol Kuromu. By extension, she knows about those that helped with her sister's work at the Evidol Games, such as Iruma.
  • Shorter Means Smarter: She is short enough to need a box to stand on to look over a podium, and she is the top scoring student in her class.
  • Training Montage: Goes through one after deciding to attend Babyls.
  • What Beautiful Eyes!: Iruma compliments her on her pretty eyes, describing them as "a lake covered by a thin layer of ice". This causes her to fall for Iruma hard.

    Garson Vine

Garson Vine

Debut: Chapter 223 (Manga)

Inherited Magic: Poison Fang

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/irumakungarson.jpg

A student that gets incredibly nervous whenever he's around Iruma. For the Heartbreaker Promotion Exam, Garson ends up on Team Iruma, which leaves him fearing for the worst. Due to the rumors surrounding all the people who are interested in Iruma, Garson's desperate to not end up as a member of Iruma's harem. Later on, Garson ends up being recruited into the Babyls Student Council after accepting a recruitment flier from Naphula. Garson not knowing what he was actually getting into as he was just trying to avoid being recruited into a Babyls division.

  • Ambiguously Gay: As noted below, he seems to genuninely fear that he'll be sucked into Iruma's "harem", though out of being too weak-willed to resist than any attraction to Iruma. On the one hand, his intial idea about his relationship with Iruma seems one of close friends. On the other hand, he's blushing hard when Iruma's holding him close after he saves him (and his balloon) from a teacher's attack.
  • Big Little Brother: Garson looks to be as tall as Iruma and once his sister Marnie is introduced, she is tiny by comparison.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Jerkass is a huge stretch, but he is completely right to point out to Iruma about his harem and that Iruma's constant denial is stupid since there is more than enough evidence that he's got a harem interested in him.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: Seeing his team is no match for a teachter despite Iruma's best efforts, Garson suggests they run away, which Iruma agrees.
  • Nervous Wreck: He's always seen nervous and sweating around Iruma out of fear of possibly ending up as another member of his harem.
  • Poisonous Person: His bloodline power allows him to secrete various poisons and their antidotes from tusks growing from his back.
  • Required Secondary Powers: He appears to be immune from his own poisons as he only coats Chima and Iruma in the antidote prior to their escape through a poison-made hole.
  • Scars Are Forever: Garson has some sort of burn over his left eye.
  • Springtime for Hitler: As shown in a side chapter he got second place in his flying competition when he didn't mean to stand out, because he took the easy canyon route while going slowly, but a bunch of other classmates took the hard route and got hurt. Also because he was flying in a straight line, unknowingly using his powers to melt through the canyons in his way.
  • Tactical Withdrawal: He is all for running from the teacher that first finds them when it is clear Iruma is outmatched. He creates a poison-covered opening the teacher chooses not to follow through.
  • Tempting Fate: During his First Year Rookie Hunt, he is scared of standing out because of how he and Team Iruma did in the Heartbreaker Competition. So he ends up signing up with the first Batra to offer him a membership and hopes to be a ghost member and keep away from Iruma. The demon who asks for his signature is Naphra and he ends up joining the Student Council. So not only is Iruma elated as he was a former member of the Student Council, he will end up seeing Iruma regularly as Iruma visits Ameri.

Team Alice

    Zeze Zepar

Zeze Zepar

Debut: Chapter 215 (Manga)

Inherited Magic: Love Eater

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/irumakunzeze.jpg

A popular modevil first-year of the prestigious Zepar Family that's usually seen fanning himself, and scored 2nd-place in the Babyls entrance exam. The latter of which makes him a bit of a rival to the 1st-place Chima. For the Heartbreaker Promotion Exam, Zeze ends up on Team Alice. Later on, Zeze's recruited into the Babyls Student Council due to his efforts in the Heartbreaker exam impressing the council members.

  • Alliterative Name: Both his first and last name start with Z.
  • Barrier Warrior: One of the magics he can use is called Grand Cocoon. It has enough strength, even in his weakened state to hold back Dali as he is coming for the last known heart of the competition: Silvia's.
  • Bishie Sparkle: He tends to sparkle a lot when he's trying to show himself off.
  • Butt-Monkey: Whenever he tries to show himself off, Chima quickly shoves him out of the way to show that she doesn't take him all that seriously.
  • Chick Magnet: His good looks and popularity as a modevil has all the girls at Babyls fawning over him.
  • Crazy Enough to Work: When it comes to the Rookie Hunt, he sits on a throne of his own making to advertise his openness to join any Battler. He hopes to get throngs of people wanting him and it succeeds in getting him scouted by the Student Council. He joins it along with Garson.
  • Doppelgänger Attack: Thanks to learning how to use powerful spells growing up in the Zepar family, Zeze's able to use the high-level "Doppler" spell to make an identical clone of himself, which Zeze puts to use during the Heartbreaker Promotion Exam. However, he has to have people praising him with love through his Love Eater Bloodline Magic in order to have enough mana to perform it.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Before his introduction in the Heartbreaker Promotion Exam, Zeze can be seen in chapter 215 as one of the first-year audience members watching Chima give her speech for the entrance ceremony.
  • Emotion Eater: Zeze (and his clan)'s favorite food is "love", which they feed off of both words and gifts representing them in a very literal sense, i.e. he physically consumes love letters mailed to him. It even ties to their Bloodline Magic: The more "love" they consume, the more mana they get, which they exploit to use high-level spells to earn more "love" for them to consume.
  • Fantastic Diet Requirement: He and his family feed off of love but it actually goes beyond simply absorbing the emotion as his family dinner has them literally eating the gifts and love letters they've received.
  • Informed Attractiveness: He's a really popular modevil, which is basically being a model. Zeze's considered so hot that he's appeared in many magazines, and was #1 for the Netherworld's Next Top Beauty Contest.
  • In-Series Nickname: He's known throughout the demon world as "The Promising Modevil" due to his work to become a famous modevil.
  • Glory Hound: He constantly thrusts himself into the spotlight and tries to show off. It's part of his family's customs, the more positive emotions directed at them, the more powerful they become and they train from a young age to utilize that power to stand out more and get even more love to further empower them.
  • Logical Weakness: Since his clan are able to sustain themselves on love, they can be hurt if they consume or receive hate or even dislike toward them. Zeze's brother ends up barfing when he unknowingly eats a piece of hate mail, and Zeze spits out blood and collapses from organ pain when Silvia tells him she doesn't even like him. To a lesser extent, he collapses from exhaustion even with her professing her love for him because he notes her words aren't geniune.
  • Luminescent Blush: Sports one in appreciation when Azz congratulates him and Silvia for completing the Heartbreaker exam's Operation S.O.S plan.
  • Pretty Boy: Due to his good looks, Zeze has a sidejob as a popular modevil, and has all the girls looking in his direction.
  • Rank Up: It can be assumed that he started Babyls at Rank 2 (Bet).
    • Zeze achieves Rank 3 (Gimmel) thanks to his efforts in the Heartbreaker Promotional Exam. He's rewarded for saving the day many times, and showing off his bloodline ability to the max.
  • The Rival: He sort of acts as one to Chima given that he scored 2nd place on the entrance exam while she got 1st. However, Chima doesn't take it seriously at all.
  • Running Gag: He's treated as a bit of a Butt-Monkey amongst his fellow classmates. Particularly when Zeze's hit by the backlash of his Love Eater ability due to someone saying something negative about him.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: He shares the same distinct "demon horns with a tiny patch of hair near the head" as his mother and older brother.
  • Training from Hell: If the Zepar family flashback is anything to go by, his mother made sure to keep him focused on studying to become famous and to learn high-end spells at a young age.

    Silvia Sabnock

Silvia Sabnock

Voiced by: Haruna Asami (Japanese)

Debut: Episode 19 (Anime), Chapter 36 (Manga)

Inherited Magic: Weapon Creation

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/0215_002.png

Sabro's outgoing little sister who's introduced hanging out with her brother at the Battler Party festival. Silvia eventually passes the Babyls entrance exam, and joins as a first-year the year her brother's going into his second-year. She then befriends Kerori's little sister, Chima, on the first day of school, and for the Heartbreaker Promotion Exam, Silvia ends up on Team Alice. Later on, Silvia follows behind Chima to also join Babyls' Magic Tools Research division.

  • Alliterative Name: Both her first and last name start with S.
  • Backstory: She gets a bit of this at the start of chapter 332 where as a young child, Silvia reading a book that displayed Beem's "Bowing Palome" art picture sparked her interest in art.
  • Barrier Warrior: She can create shields with her bloodline power as well. This proves instumental in saving her heart balloon when Dali is coming after them in the final 30 seconds.
  • Big Brother Worship: She loves to spend time with Sabro.
  • Character Focus: She shares the focus with Judain Beem in the Haunted House Batra story arc.
  • Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: A downplayed example. Sabro instructs her to slap some sense into Azz if he tries to prioritize helping Iruma over his own team during the Heartbreaker.
  • The Ditz: She proudly admits she lost track of her oldest brother when they came to the school fair.
  • Fangirl: She ends up being a big fan of Beem in the Art Division after finding out that he was the artist behind the "Bowing Palome" picture that impressed her as a young child.
  • Genki Girl: Full of energy and talks very loudly.
  • The Glomp: Appears to love to hug people she likes.
  • Hidden Depths: She is an amazing artist, though since she comes from a family of blacksmiths, she claims that it's only a hobby. The subsequent arc shows that she isn't being very honest about it just being a hobby to her though.
  • Luminescent Blush: Sports one in appreciation when Azz congratulates her and Zeze for completing the Heartbreaker exam's Operation S.O.S plan.
  • No Indoor Voice: On her first day of school she LOUDLY greets everyone around her.
  • Not What It Looks Like: Zeze instructs her to shout "I love you!" to him in order to give him a power boost. Unfortunately, this is all being broadcast to the entire school, and is heard by her brother, who immediately misunderstands things. She now has to go around the school telling everybody that she is not in love with him.
  • Odd Friendship: She became (made herself) instant friends with Chima, despite their personalities being quite opposite. Sylvia is a loud and energetic older teen, while Chima is a younger, mostly quiet young girl.
  • Older Than They Look: Due to how Sabro's size and deliberate manliness makes him seem older than he actually is, it can be a bit surprising that she's actually only one year younger than him.
  • Power Dyes Your Hair: Half of her hair is dyed black as a result of her trying to paint the Galna, causing her to not only resemble her brother during his Evil Cycle, but also look as if her hair has been stained in ink.
  • Shoulder Teammate: Like Clara, she seems to like climbing on her older brother.
  • Spontaneous Weapon Creation: Like her brother, she also possesses the ability to create weapons made out of the material she bites in to, first using it to create a shield to stall Dali from popping their last balloon before the time limit runs out.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: She looks almost exactly like a smaller version of her brother with some noticeable feminine features.
  • Tomboy: She seems to take after her older brother in personality and aesthetic.
  • You Are Not Alone: She recognizes this while enduring Beem's painting Galna and the attempts by the painting to entrap Sylvia into her, as Beem continues holding her hand and Sylvia knows the other Magitool Battler members are outside supporting her. This helps her succeed in her arduous task.

  • Flowers of Nature: Her ability is centered around growing flower plants at any location. She even keeps a flower in her hair, which gives Suzy the idea that Fuwatoro might be a relative of hers.
  • Green Thumb: She has a bloodline magic allowing her to manipulate plants. It is called "Bloom."
  • Oh, Crap!: She is terrified when the first teacher Team Valac encounters is Suzy Stolas. As Stolas immediately unleashes daffodils which act as gattling guns her fear is very justified.

    Yabashi F. Marbas

Yabashi F. Marbas

Debut: Chapter 215 (Manga)

Inherited Magic: Perfect Understanding

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/irumakunyabashi.jpg

A relative of Babyls' torture teacher, March Marbas. Yabashi comes off as a thug given his outer appearance only for it to turn out that he's actually somewhat of a softy on the inside. For the Heartbreaker Promotion Exam, Yabashi ends up on Team Clara. Later on, Yabashi joins Babyls' Magic Tools Research division due to his interest in magic tools and knack for crafting.

  • Early-Bird Cameo: Before his introduction in the Heartbreaker Promotion Exam, Yabashi can sorta be seen in chapter 215 as one of the first-year audience members watching Chima give her speech for the entrance ceremony. His face is covered up by a dialogue bubble, but you can tell it's him based on his shirt with a spider-web design.
  • Expy: Of Tanaka of Hotel Helheim written by Osamu Nishi, right down to the character design and personality.
  • Face of a Thug: He has a very dark and intimidating aura around him which unnerves his partner Fuwatoro, and gives a scornful "tch" when Clara tries to be friendly to him, but later it turns out he's just not good at talking to people and is actually decently friendly and supportive when he works up the nerve to speak.
  • Foreshadowing: A small example in chapter 208. While Iruma's being given a tour of the teacher's dorm, March asks him to look after his relative who's entering Babyls as a first-year. This of course turned out to be Yabashi.
  • Friendship Moment: He belatedly does the cheer Fuwatoro and Clara did before and he just looked on when the two were scared from Stolas's attack. It helps calm them down.
  • Graceful Loser: He took his team being defeated honorably stating they did their best despite the disadvantage.
  • The Stoic: He keeps himself calm and collected, and so is able to bring a frightened Clara and Fuwatoro to their senses after Stolas's first attacks against them.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Despite it being covered up by head ware, it's pretty clear that Yabashi shares the same upper hair spikes as his relatives, March and Mal.
  • X-Ray Vision: His bloodline ability is "Perfect Understanding." It allows him to see the structure of all things. This includes the internal working parts of Stolas' machine gun daffodils. He can see when they are ready to re-load and gives Clara an opening to counter attack.

A tall student amongst the 26 demon fledgelings. For the Heartbreaker Promotion Exam, Sepata ends up on Team Purson, which along with first-year teammate Nikomura, their height comes off intimidating to the smaller Soi. Later on, it's implied that Sepata and Nikomura joined Babyls' Music division to continue being with Soi.

  • Alliterative Name: Both his first and last name start with S.
  • Ascended Fanboy: He and Nix watched Soi perform at the Music Festival in the previous year, and became instant fans of his music and skills. They consider him an awesome demon.
  • Extendable Arms: His Bloodline ability "Flexibility" allows him to stretch any body part so long as he has the mana.
  • Nice Guy: Despite Sepata's height looking intimidating to Soi at first, Soi soon realizes that Sepata's an overall nice person, and is even a fan of him.

    Nikomura Nix

Inherited Magic: Harmony

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/irumakunnikomura.jpg

A tall furry student amongst the 26 demon fledgelings. For the Heartbreaker Promotion Exam, Nikomura ends up on Team Purson, which along with first-year teammate Sepata, their height comes off intimidating to the smaller Soi. Later on, it's implied that Nikomura and Sepata joined Babyls' Music division to continue being with Soi.

  • Alliterative Name: Both his first and last name start with N.
  • Ascended Fanboy: He and Seir watched seen Soi perform at the Music Festival in the previous year and became instant fans of his music and skills. They consider him an awesome demon.
  • Big-Hearted Bigfoot: Despite Nikomura's height looking intimidating to Soi at first, Soi soon realizes that Nikomura's basically a large friendly fur demon, and is even a fan of him.
  • The Empath: His Bloodline ability "Harmony" allows him to convey his thoughts and feelings to another demon by touching them.
  • Oh, Crap!: Nikomura has one of these moments during the Heartbreaker Promotion Exam where he accidentally knocks a candle off the school's wall while under Soi's invisibility hiding from the teachers. His teammate, Sepata, manages to grab the candle with his extendable arm before it hit the ground, which would have given away their position.

Team Camui

    Marianne Pheené

Marianne Pheené

Debut: Chapter 224 (Manga)

Inherited Magic: Illusion of Choice

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/irumakunpheen.jpg

A young rich girl from the prestigious Pheené family who's into hot men. For the Heartbreaker Promotion Exam, Marianne ends up on Team Kamui. Given that she's a girl and that Kamui's a pervert, Marianne starts running for her life trying to stay away from him. However, she ends up coming around to respecting Kamui after witnessing his efforts to protect the first-years during said exam.

  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: Despite being on Kamui's team, she's quick to beg Azz to protect her for the exam since she wants nothing to do with Kamui and his pervertedness.
  • I Choose to Stay: Instead of escaping with the rest of the students after they completed the Heartbreaker Promotion Exam's Operation S.O.S plan, Marianne chose to stay behind to watch over Kamui, who completed exhausted himself after his fight against teacher Momonoki. Uzu accepts Marianne's decision choosing to stay behind with her, which results in Momonoki eliminating them from the exam.
  • Fangirl: Towards strong and hot men, such as Azz, Picero, Jazz, Iruma and Zeze.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: After being won over by Kamui's efforts during his Heartbreaker Promotion Exam fight against Momonoki, Marianne actually starts to show jealousy to the point of giving off bloodlust when Kamui latches on to Momonoki's leg.
  • Ojou: Has a lot of characteristics related to this trope being a wealthy high-class young girl, and is given her very own Security Devil in Uzu.
  • Master of Illusion: Her Bloodline Magic, Illusion of Choice, allows her to cast specific illusions on her target based on her current desires. For example, because she wanted Momonoki to stop attacking Kamui, Illusion of Choice causes Momonoki to see Kamui as Kalego. A drawback of this ability, which is a weakness shared by Orobas' Trauma, is that she can't see the illusion her magic produces.
  • The Mirror Shows Your True Self: While her illusion magic is powerful, it doesn't appear when one takes a photo of the illusion with a camera.
  • Please, Don't Leave Me: Pretty much says this towards Azz wanting him to protect her rather than Kamui.
  • Rescue Romance: While certainly not in a proper relationship yet, Marianne gains a crush on Camui after he lets himself get beat up by the teachers during the Heartbreaker exam to protect her and the other underclassmen.
  • Screaming Woman: During the Heartbreaker Promotion Exam, Team Azz basically run into her screaming for help as she's running from Kamui's perverted antics.
  • Tomboyish Ponytail: Her hair is tied up this way with a bow.
  • Women Prefer Strong Men: She gravitates towards strong male demons. During the exam, the sight of Azz hyping himself up with his powerful fire-magic really makes her blush and fangirl in interest towards him, much to Kamui's shock. This also means that once Kamui displays just how strong and courageous he can be, she starts feeling attracted to him as well, though in a tsundere way since he's not an especially attractive demon.

    Uzu

Uzu

Debut: Chapter 215 (Manga)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/irumakunuzu.jpg

Marianne's personal Security Devil. For the Heartbreaker Promotion Exam, Uzu ends up on Team Kamui. She winds up spending her time trying to defend Marianna from Kamui's perverted antics.

  • Ambiguously Related: She has the same cat ear hair as Opera and can recognize them on sight while, perhaps significantly, Marianne does not.
  • Berserk Button: Gets pissed whenever someone is bothering Marianne. When Kamui is trying to perform his perverted antics with Marianne, Uzu is seen angrily chasing him down, and trying to wack him with her wooden katana.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Before her introduction in the Heartbreaker Promotion Exam, Uzu can be seen amongst the demons in chapter 215 singing the school theme during the entrance ceremony.
  • I Choose to Stay: As part of her Undying Loyalty to Marianna, Uzu chose to stay with Marianna to help her look after the completely exhausted Kamui instead of escaping with the other students after they completed the Heartbreaker exam's Operation S.O.S plan.
  • The Jeeves: Serve's as Marianna's dedicated Security Devil.
  • Oh, Crap!: She reacts with genuine fear when she sees Opera guarding Sullivan's vat. She is relieved when Opera reveals they are playing a helpless researcher character and is not one of their combat enemies. That said, when Momonoki Morax appears she gives another one.
  • Undying Loyalty: Serves as Marianne's personal Security Devil in the Pheené family. During the Heartbreaker Promotion Exam when she still had her exam balloon unpopped, Uzu chose to stay by Marianne's side instead of escaping, which resulted in Momonoki popping her balloon and eliminating Team Kamui from the exam.
  • Wooden Katanas Are Even Better: Uses a wooden katana/bokken as her main weapon.

  • Hair-Trigger Temper: He gets angry pretty easily. Chacha doesn't like taking orders from anyone, especially if the orders are from women. Though he ends up going along with the Operation S.O.S plan anyway due to falling for Elizabetta's Love Gauge seduction. He gets angry again when Kerori calls him out on sucking up to Elizabetta.
  • He-Man Woman Hater: To a small extent. He hates being given orders when they're specifically from women. Though he does get better after the Operation S.O.S plan fighting alongside Kerori and Elizabetta ended up being a success, and admits it was awesome.
  • Luminescent Blush:
    • He's greatly affected by Elizabetta's Love Gauge while she's keeping him under control during the Operation S.O.S plan.

  • My Instincts Are Showing: When he first meets Kerori, as seen in the vol 28 extras, he is about to mouth off to her when he notices her intimidating arua of a beast tamer and hides behind Chacha when he yells at her. Kerori is oblivious to her intimidating effect.

  • Fanboy: He and Pamela become this towards Picero admiring and believing that said Misfit is just like them being lazy and wanting to win without much effort.
  • Fight Unscene: Most of Team Picero's fight with Balam during the Heartbreaker exam happens off-screen. The moment was more about Oolo and Pamela actually attempting to step up for once rather than the actual fight.
  • A Lesson Learned Too Well: Picero lays into him and Pamela for their complete lack of drive whereas he worked hard to ensure he can be as lazy as he is, which motivates them to put up a fight against Balam. Afterwards however, they seem to have taken his words to heart and are now enthusiastically trying to find a battler to join and pestering Picero about it at the same time.
  • Light 'em Up: His Bloodline Magic allows him to create and manipulate any light-emitting object.
  • Oh, Crap!: Everyone on Team Picero has this reaction once they realize that Balam's discovered and burst into their underground Heartbreaker exam hideout.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: He and fellow first-year, Pamela, are characterized as complete slackers. However, after getting chewed out by Picero, who called his two first-year teammates out for believing that he hasn't been trying this whole time, the two of them actually make an attempt to step up and try to take on Balam in a serious fight during the Heartbreaker exam.
  • The Slacker: Both he and Pamela are this. They enjoy just sitting around and being lazy within Picero's underground My Area hideout in order to win the Heartbreaker Promotion Exam in the littlest effort possible.

A lazy shut-in student who's not interested in putting in much effort. For the Heartbreaker Promotion Exam, Pamela ends up on Team Picero.

  • Early-Bird Cameo: Before his introduction in the Heartbreaker Promotion Exam, Pamela can be seen in chapter 215 as one of the first-year audience members watching Chima give her speech for the entrance ceremony.
  • Fanboy: Him and Oolo become this towards Picero admiring and believing that said Misfit is just like them being lazy and wanting to win without much effort.
  • Fight Unscene: Most of Team Picero's fight with Balam during the Heartbreaker exam happens off-screen. The moment was more about Pamela and Oolo actually attempting to step up for once rather than the actual fight.
  • Horned Humanoid: A noteworthy character detail is that Pamela only has one demon horn above his right eye.
  • A Lesson Learned Too Well: Picero lays into him and Oolo for their complete lack of drive whereas he worked hard to ensure he can be as lazy as he is, which motivates them to put up a fight against Balam. Afterwards however, they seem to have taken his words to heart and are now enthusiastically trying to find a battler to join and pestering Picero about it at the same time.

  • The Slacker: Both him and Oolo are this. They enjoy just sitting around and being lazy within Picero's underground My Area hideout in order to win the Heartbreaker Promotion Exam in the littlest effort possible.

For the Heartbreaker Promotion Exam, Ronron ends up on Team Sabro, which she gets paired with another short fledgeling, Puko. Sabro's able to easily carry Ronron and Puko around given his massive size and strength compared to them. Later on, both Ronron and Puko join Babyls' Demon King division in order to continue being with Sabro.

  • Only One Name: Ronron only seems to have one name as while her and Puko were both finally given proper introductions in chapter 255, Puko got a first and last name while Ronron is only known as Ronron.
  • Prone to Tears: As part of her overall nervous character, Ronron will sometimes break out into tears. The first image she's literally ever seen, she has tears in her eyes. This turns gutwrenching later in the Heartbreaker arc, as Atori either ignores or doesn't notice her pleading for him to stop beating on a downed Sabro.
  • Quivering Eyes: Her eyes are usually quivering being a part of her nervous character.
  • Technicolor Eyes: One of her character design features is the sclera part of her eyes being dark.

  • Teleportation: His bloodline magic "Jump Man" allows him and things he is touching to move a distance away depending on his mana. He also has a cool down time after using his power.

  • Gold Digger: She seeks to get a boyfriend from a prominent demonic family and marry into that family. She asks Allocer (apparently repeatedly) if he has a girlfriend and to marry her, and post-Heartbreaker Exam, has been doing the same to Ichou, to his displeasure.
  • Logical Weakness: Her magic can let her see all around her in a 360-degree range for several meters depending on her mana. However, it seems to only be on the X-Y-Axis and doesn't take into account the area above her, as Atori launches an attack from above right after she scans the area and sees no threats.

    Ras Mozumi

Ras Mozumi

Inhereited Magic: Gobbler

A demon who is a member of Allocer's team for the Heart Breaker Competition.

Team Jazz

    Chimii Pemopemo & Demii Pemopemo

Chimii Pemopemo & Demii Pemopemo

Inherited Magic: Big-Small

A sister and brother pair assigned to Team Jazz for the Hearbreaker competition.
  • Chekhov's Gun: When Allocer is planning out the final seven minutes of the competition, his team and Chimii and Demii are safe with no missing hearts. After Ipos saves them from Atori but Atori escapes, Oswell turns and pops both of Team Allocer and Demii, but Chimii is missing. It is later revealed while the teachers were focused on Atori, Chimii shrunk to fit into Allocer's pocket and he kept her in there until the end of the competition.
  • Sizeshifter: While the bloodline power allows them to alter their size, Demii can only grow from his small size to even greater sizes and Chimii can only shrink to even smaller sizes.

Team Goemon

    Roel Michel and Jig Zakuma

Team Goemon

Inherited Magic: Softening (Roel) & Leaps and Bounds (Jig)

Two students who bicker with each other over the best strategy for survival.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: They get some passing moments and shots of them, but are otherwise not developed beyond endlessly bickering with each other. It so much that it drives the normally extremely friendly Gaap into the series' first naturally occuring wicked phase, which ends up ending poorly for everyone involved. In fact, the only reason we learned their names and magic is through Murmur's own Bloodline Magic revealing them.

Team Lied

    Shimaji and Thomas
The pair of demons who were assigned to Team Lied for the Heartbreaker Competition. They were unlucky enough to have both their exam balloons popped before they actually got to do anything. Later on, both Shimaji and Thomas join Babyls' Gaming division in order to continue being with Lied.
  • Cyclops: Shimaji is a one-eyed demon.
  • A Day in the Limelight: A bit of this in chapter 274. Following the Heartbreaker Exam, Lied takes the two of them out to a Sabbath mixer as a means to help them all heal from their huge exam fail.
  • Epic Fail: Along with their leader, Lied, their team ended up being one of the worst, if not the worst, of the Heartbreaker Promotional Exam to the point that it might as well have been a massive failure for them. Thomas' exam balloon instantly gets sniped by Robin at the very moment the exam starts, which forces them to go into hiding. Yet the moment they decide to take things seriously and come out of hiding to fight back, Shimaji's exam balloon gets instantly popped by Oswell. Thus, eliminating Team Lied before they actually got to do anything.
  • Fanboy: Both are hard core fans of Lied.
  • Hidden Depths: You learn a bit about their hobbies during the Sabbath mixer, such as Shimaji liking fishing, and Thomas being someone that has a knack for making perfume. They both also have much better luck getting dates than their senior Lied, something which causes him no end of grief.
  • Sacrificial Lamb: While non-fatal, Thomas has his balloon popped right after the bell rings by Robin. This signifies the teachers won't be messing around and will go for the hearts at their earliest chance. Shimaji's doesn't last much longer, being popped as soon as the team steps back into the action but "prepared" this time.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Their defeat in the Heartbreaker exam was rather quick to the point that their bloodline magics weren't even revealed. Though they do get a bit more development after the exam.

Others

    Eita

Eita

Debut: Chapter 214 (Manga)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/irumakuneita_7.jpg

Eiko's younger brother. He joins Babyls as his sister becomes a second-year student.

  • History Repeats: Like his sister, he first meets Iruma when Iruma rescues him from a ruckus caused by Azz. In this case, it is Azz and most of the other Misfits making a Big Entrance that overwhelms the younger demons. Iruma pulls him away from the crowd and helps him recover.
  • Irony: Eiko has been trying to approach Iruma to talk to him for the last year with no success. Eita does it on his first day without even trying.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: He looks practically identical to his older sister Eiko, outside wearing gendered school uniforms, with them having almost exactly the same facial features and head structures, right down to their hair bangs parting in exactly the same way, to the point the only notable differences are him having a more angular chin and Youthful Freckles around his nose.
