Babyls Crime Family

    General
The family led by Don Sullivan. He soon retires after adopting Iruma so he can take his place in the criminal underworld.
  • A Child Shall Lead Them: After Sullivan unexpectedly retires, he names Iruma his successor who is only fourteen at the time.
  • Adaptation Species Change: This version of Babyls is comprised entirely of humans due to the AU setting.
  • Badass in a Nice Suit: Its members all dress in spiffy suits, and every one of them (especially the named major characters) are capable of kicking some serious ass. Even Iruma, otherwise prefers diplomacy or negotiation, isn't afraid to get into the thick of things.
  • Darker and Edgier: In the main manga, Babyls is a high school with genuinely kind-hearted staff members. Here, they're an organized crime syndicate who are willing to get their hands dirty, be it torture or killing anyone who crosses them. That said, they do have lines they will not cross, and are Neighbourhood-Friendly Gangsters at worst.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Yes they're the mafia, but they still have a code amongst themselves. Chapter 4 even shows that while one of the criminals they're hiring has a sound record, he sold out his partners to save his own skin.
  • Good Is Not Soft: Chapter 4 reminds us that despite the family being Neighbourhood-Friendly Gangsters, they do not hesitate to kill people if it's necessary. Kalego even points this out to Azz when he joins, and he tells him while they kill, they're not murderers.
  • Neighbourhood-Friendly Gangsters: One of the nicer criminal families in the setting.
  • Villain with Good Publicity: Thanks to Iruma's actions, Babyls develops a good reputation despite being mafia.

    Don Sullivan

Sullivan

Debut: Chapter 1

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mafiasullivan.png

The head of the Babyls crime family. In a strange twist of fate, Sullivan was grievously wounded in the Slums and was taken care of by a young child. Touched by his kindness, Sullivan returned to the Slums and repaid his "debt" by formally adopting Iruma Suzuki and raising him as his own.

  • Adaptational Nice Guy: While the deal between him and the Suzukis ultimately worked in his favor (and coincidentally in Iruma's), Sullivan was given Iruma by the latter's parents as per their contract. Here, Sullivan adopts Iruma of his own volition after the latter nurses him back to health.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Iruma finds him wounded in front of his "home" and helps him recover. Between the kindness Iruma showed him and learning he's an orphan, Sullivan all but adopts the child on the spot and comes to pick him up the next day.
  • Cool Old Guy: Like his demon counterpart, he's a whimsical and carefree old man who spoils Iruma rotten.
  • Doting Parent: Adopted grandfather version, just like his demon counterpart.
  • Evil Parents Want Good Kids: Zigzagged. Sullivan is not "evil" in the strictest sense; he's a Benevolent Boss who treats his subordinates well and adopted a child from the dingy slums after the latter nursed him back to health, but he's still the head of an organized crime syndicate. He gave Iruma a happy childhood and while he did name him his successor in Babyls, he did not pressure his adopted grandson into taking the position and even warned him what becoming The Don means in the long run.
  • Good Is Not Soft: He's a goofy grandfather that dotes on Iruma after adopting him, but let's not forget that he is The Don who will kill anyone who goes against the family. He even tells Iruma that he can't afford to be soft, and Iruma gladly accepts the responsibility.
  • The Don: The head of Babyls. At the end of Chapter 1, he decides to step down and names Iruma his successor.
  • Not in Front of the Kid: Even though he's The Don who dotes on Iruma, he's still a crimelord who will execute some people. A flashback of chapter 4 shows that he had Iruma play with Opera so the five year old doesn't see the unpleasant parts of the mafia. However, Iruma knew Sullivan had someone killed, but it doesn't traumatize him.
  • Pet the Dog: In this manga, Sullivan adopted Iruma with no strings attached.

    Iruma Suzuki

Iruma Suzuki

Debut: Chapter 1

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mafiairuma.png

In another lifetime, this boy would have been sold to an elderly demon by his money-grubbing parents and become that demons' grandson. In this lifetime, however, Iruma is an orphan who lives in squalor like so many children in the Slums. His life takes an unexpected change when he finds a man on death's door near his home.

  • A Child Shall Lead Them: When Sullivan retires, he names Iruma his successor despite the latter being 14. Kalego takes issue with this as Iruma has no concept of money and views his kindness as a detriment to the family. On Iruma's part, he knows what is expected of him as The Don, and that he will one day have to get his hands dirty like the rest of his subordinates.
  • Adaptational Angst Downgrade: In Episode of Mafia, Iruma grew up as an orphan. While other kids took advantage of his kindness, none of them went to the lengths the Suzukis did. Iruma himself didn't seem to mind his living conditions and was happy to help other people even if he was being swindled.
  • Adorably Precocious Child: At five years old, Iruma was just living his own life, helping and feeding people he came across. Then Sullivan decides to adopt him as his grandson, and Iruma decides to live up to the responsibility at 14 years old.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Clara calls him "Boss-chi".
  • All-Loving Hero: Just like his canon counterpart, Iruma treats everyone around him (with few exceptions) with respect and kindness. When Kalego takes him to a restaurant per Iruma's request to see his teacher at work so as to get some experience, a pair of thugs cause the owner some trouble. Kalego and Opera attempt to deal with them, but Iruma intervenes and helps them instead since he knows what it's like to grow up feeling hungry. Upon learning Clara's circumstances and how the head of the circus intends to pawn her off, if not sell her outright, Iruma decides to buy her freedom.
  • Alternate Self: Of Demon School Iruma Suzuki in the original manga.
  • An Offer You Can't Refuse: Kalego's teachings didn't go to waste, and he's done several deals with people. Some willingly, others so they can use him for clout. Anyone doing the latter will find out the hard way that Iruma will go out of his way to buy property in a Loophole Abuse so that they will have to pay him for compensation. As the Ringleader finds out the hard way, turning his back on him isn't wise.
  • Benevolent Boss: He memorized all 6,666 members of the Babyls bodyguards working under him. One of them lampshades this, seeing that he could remember all of their names, averting What Measure Is a Mook?. He also buys an abandoned amusement park and hired the Wonder Brothers staff to have a safe environment to work in.
  • Big Eater: Even in this continuity, Iruma has a big appetite. When he was adopted along with Opera, they ate all of the birthday dinner, and in Chapter 3, when Iruma, Opera, and Kalego are visiting Walter City, Iruma makes two large orders of Camu-Camu's food.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: This is what Azz thinks he is, believing his kind persona is a mask that hides the brutal don of the Babyls crime family. It's subverted as of Chapter 6 where he finally recognizes Iruma is genuinely kind, but now thinks the mafia boss is also naive.
  • Cheerful Child: Despite living in poor conditions, Iruma somehow finds reasons to stay smiling and make the most of living in the Slums.
  • Childhood Friends: In the character profiles, Ameri was his childhood friend when he used to live in the Slums. The profile also stated she's been searching for him for nine years, unaware that he was being adopted. Justified since, in the first chapter, people have been going missing in the Slums.
  • Coat Cape: Iruma takes to wearing his jacket in this manner.
  • Conveniently an Orphan: Iruma doesn't know who or where his parents are. Sullivan sees that he's an orphan living by himself, and adopts him accordingly.
  • Damn, It Feels Good to Be a Gangster!: Having been raised in the mafia and living a comfortable life, and being taught the responsibilities on running his organization, Iruma definitely has an easier childhood. Though he is aware there are other people who aren't as lucky, and is willing to use his money and connections to help people.
  • Darker and Edgier: Zigzagged. While this interpretation of Iruma is mostly the same as his main manga counterpart, he was raised by the mafia and was exposed to the events and dangers that come with the "family business", up to and including murder. Iruma is fully aware of what becoming The Don of Babyls means and is fully prepared to get his hands dirty.
  • The Don: Succeeds Sullivan as the new head of the Babyls crime family.
  • Extreme Doormat: Just like his original counterpart, he's an absolute pushover when it comes to the word "please".
  • Famed In-Story: He gained a large amount of popularity ever since he revitalized his Kalego crow plushies. Since then, Eiko has been on reporter duty specifically for him and his organization. Unlike the original Iruma who initially tried to avoid gaining unwanted attention as much as possible, this Iruma is doing it on purpose, and has enough clout to do legal operations in public while keeping his mafia connections away from prying eyes or if he plans An Offer You Can't Refuse.
  • Good Is Not Soft: While he's an All-Loving Hero, Iruma was raised by the mafia. He's fully willing to get his hands dirty if it means he can protect Babyls and the people closest to him. He will also not hesitate to fight back against people who would betray him when it's within their best interests to be on his side and not against.
  • Hidden Depths: In Chapter 5, Iruma shows that while he's a kind-hearted soul, Sullivan and Kalego's teachings did not go to waste as he offers a very generous and lucrative deal with the head of the Wonder Brothers circus troupe, albeit in a way that makes it very clear to the head that Iruma holds the reins.
  • Idiot Hair: In this continuity, Iruma has two cowlicks while his mainline version only has one. Another version has three. Made a more amusing when Ameri had an Imagine Spot, his cowlicks literally forms a heart.
  • Loophole Abuse: In Chapter 6, Iruma thinks up a plan to free Clara and the other circus performers at Wonder Brothers. The troupe master assumes he's coercing him into selling the circus to Babyls, with the implicit threat he'll shut down Wonder Brothers if he doesn't comply. This isn't legal by any means, which Iruma agrees with...until he reveals that Babyls bought the abandoned amusement park the circus is currently based in, meaning the Wonder Brothers circus is on Babyls private property. Iruma even went the extra mile by poaching members of his circus to help with the revitalized amusement park, meaning the troupe master has no employees, and therefore no one to perform.
  • Tiny Guy, Huge Girl: The tiny guy to Ameri's huge girl. Just for frame of reference, his hear is nearly up to her shoulders.
  • Villain with Good Publicity: Inverted in that he's not a villain by any means. His publicity stunts let him gain good graces with the media and in public despite being a mafia boss.
  • What Measure Is a Mook?: Subverted. Iruma knows all 6,666 members of Babyls working under him, including their needs and wants. Some of his own Mooks are shown smiling when he tells one of them to take their medication. This is lampshaded by another mook who notices that he's nice to everyone.
  • Wise Beyond Their Years: At five years old, Iruma is fully aware of the dealings going on in Babyls, including murder. He even asks Sullivan if he had someone killed despite the latter averting his attention to the less pleasant parts of the mafia lifestyle.
  • Wrestler in All of Us: When Opera attempts to kill Azz during the latter's recruitment, Iruma unwittingly does this on him (much as he did in the main manga to keep him from harming Eiko).

    Opera

Opera

Debut: Chapter 1

A young man who wound up angering the Babyls crime family. While not particularly thrilled to work with them, he agrees to join them and serves as the Number Two for Iruma after the latter is named the new head of Babyls.

  • Adaptational Jerkass: This version of Opera is a lot meaner than their mainline self and is particularly rude and foul-mouthed to everyone who isn't Iruma.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul:
    • Unlike in the main manga, Opera does not serve Sullivan faithfully and willingly. In fact, Sullivan was torturing them when he brought Iruma to Babyls HQ and later cowed Opera into submission in order to convince him to join the crime family when Iruma asked Sullivan to spare them.
    • In Episode of Mafia, Iruma and Opera become adopted siblings since Sullivan decides to adopt the both of them, thus they are fiercely loyal and protective of Iruma. In the manga, they are Iruma and Sullivan's butler who will occasionally help Iruma around the house (especially with cooking in which Iruma, and by extension Ameri, are horrible at).
    • Opera and Kalego cannot stand each other whatsoever. Anytime these two are in the same room or car together, chances are they'll be throwing insults at each other at best or try to kill each other at worst. While Kalego and Opera have their problems in the main manga, they were never this violent.
  • Ambiguous Gender Identity: It's unclear even in this spin-off whether Opera is a man or woman. When asked about it, Opera says they "don't care".
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: One of the reasons why Opera is fiercely loyal to Iruma is that they were touched by the sheer depths of Iruma's kindness, such as when Iruma asked Sullivan to spare him and when Iruma went out of his way to help them despite having used him as a meat shield only seconds ago.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Gender ambiguity aside, they're (forcibly) adopted into Babyls, and thus become Iruma's adopted sibling by default. They'll even kill someone for him if they threaten his life.
  • Cold-Blooded Torture: Subverted. Sullivan ordered them to be tortured, but when Iruma arrives at Babyls HQ, he's roughed up but no worse for wear. In fact, they have been defending themselves from their would-be torturers and have their legs around one of their necks.
  • Good Is Not Soft: Opera is willing to kill anyone if they hinder Iruma or they suspect someone within reason.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: As violent as Opera is, they quickly drop Iruma as their human-shield after escaping the torture room, showing that they won't endanger a kid anymore than they have to.
  • Number Two: Serves as Iruma's "underboss" and right-hand man(?).
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: They cannot stand Kalego whatsoever. The feeling is mutual, too. When a group of thugs attack Iruma and see the two bickering, they wonder if Opera and Kalego are having some sort of falling out and try to take advantage of the situation, only for the two to subsequently turn their attention to the thugs and wipe them out.

    Kalego Naberius

Kalego Narberius

Debut: Chapter 1

The Treasurer and in charge of Babyls' finances. He is a very strict man and Iruma's teacher when he was five years old, teaching him everything the young man needed to know about the mafia lifestyle.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: While demon Kalego has to put up with working under Sullivan and dealing with the principal's zany antics and whims, he's a strict but otherwise fair teacher who will teach his students when asked. In Episode of Mafia, he's somewhat more unpleasant and less loyal; he embezzled money from Babyls' treasury despite being in charge of their finances (which Sullivan was aware of) and is a lot harsher on his charges, specifically Iruma who he disapproves of becoming the new head of Babyls. He was even planning to leave by using the chandelier worth 6.66 billion Opera unintentionally destroyed as an excuse to leave and gave Iruma an unreasonable time limit of one day to collect reparation money. While mainline Kalego gave Iruma a similar test in regards to Royal One, he was at least honest and fair when it looked like Iruma failed by offering to help with new class arrangements.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: In the mainline manga, Kalego was terrified of Opera due to the latter bullying him when they were students at Babyls, though they're otherwise civil with each other. Not so much the case here; neither Kalego nor Opera can stand each other and either argue at best or attempt to kill one another at worst.
  • Age Lift: In the original series, Kalego is a year younger than Opera. In this series, he's much older and was around when Iruma was five and Opera was a teenager.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: In Chapter 2, Kalego harshly, but correctly points out to Iruma that his kindness can be a detriment to the family; if he continues giving handouts, it'll make people believe they can take advantage of them. Similarly, Kalego's belief that Iruma isn't fit to lead Babyls is partially correct due to Iruma's inability to understand the value of money.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Despite his stern personality, he does care about Iruma in his own way. He'll put up with Iruma's antics and childish wonder and protect him from danger, as seen in Chapter 3.
  • Money Fetish: He loves money above all else, and even embezzled Babyls' money despite being the treasurer. Part of the reason he disapproves of Iruma succeeding Sullivan is because he doesn't understand the value and concept of money.
  • Mythology Gag: His mainline crow familiar form shows up in this series from a drawing Iruma drew as him. Sullivan tried to cash it as a series of plushies but was left with unsold merchandise. Iruma revives it in an attempt to pay the 6.66 billion in damages, and Opera kicks him down into an adult-size suit to complete the gag.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: In Chapter 2, Kalego decides to leave Babyls after deeming Iruma an Inadequate Inheritor because of his inexperience and having no real value or concept of money and uses the chandelier Opera broke as an excuse. He ultimately chooses to stay when Iruma succeeds in getting enough money to pay back the cost of the damaged chandelier in the unreasonable time limit Kalego set.
  • Stern Teacher: Even in this series, Kalego doesn't change when it comes to teaching Iruma, though he instead helps the boy acclimate to the mafia lifestyle and instill an idea of monetary value in him rather than treat him as an academic student.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Any time Kalego and Opera are in the same room together, expect insults, knives, and bullets to start flying. They can't stand with each other even when they're protecting Iruma while he's on business.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: He finds out Iruma bought a circus, and brought Clara along as a new member, and calls him out on spending so much money for them. Iruma however pointed out they needed help, and plans on doing so. Kalego sees his point, but tells Iruma to keep an eye on them, since he doesn't fully trust Azz and Clara yet.

    Azz Asmodeus

Alice "Azz" Asmodeus

Debut: Chapter 4

A fresh recruit of the Babyls Crime Family. Having served in prison for an undisclosed amount of time protecting vital secrets, Azz is brought before Iruma to see if he's fit for the organization. Unbeknownst to them, however, he's actually an undercover member of law enforcement tasked with bringing down Babyls from within.

  • Adaptational Villainy: Adaptational Hero Antagonist in this case. Unlike in the main manga where Azz is unwaveringly loyal to Iruma after being defeated by him, this iteration of him is a police officer who uses his newfound "friendship" with Iruma to infiltrate Babyls and bring it down from within. And unlike his demon counterpart, Azz is actually angry about Iruma suplexing him instead of gaining his loyalty.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: In Episode of Mafia, Azz uses his friendship with Iruma as a pretext to infiltrate the crime family in the hopes he will be able to bring down the organization from within.
  • Bait-and-Switch: In his appearance at the end of Chapter 3, it seems as if Azz is a career criminal. Chapter 4 also makes it seem as if Azz is a fan of Babyls as he landed in prison protecting their secrets. The end of the chapter, however, reveals Azz is actually an undercover cop who wants to bring down Babyls.
  • Everyone Has Standards: While he's a cop who's wholly willing to do some dirty things to get the job done, there are some things Azz can't stomach. In Chapter 5, he's disturbed to learn Clara was Made a Slave by the Wonder Brothers circus and wants to help her, but his undercover job with Babyls comes first, much to his frustration.
  • Good Cannot Comprehend Evil: A good deal of Azz's inner animosity toward Iruma is that he believes the young don is actually a Bitch in Sheep's Clothing whose kindness is really just an act. Chapter 6 sees him starting to realize Iruma is actually a good person deep down, if maybe naive.
  • Good Is Not Soft: Azz has reportedly taken on several jobs in the past, all of which required him to be this. As if to show his dedication to his job as a cop and his current task of bringing down the Babyls crime family, Azz has no problems killing people if the situation demands it.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Despite the fact that their first meeting has completely different circumstances (and this Iruma not being under a spell that won't let him fall) he still ends up getting German suplexed by Iruma's dodging reflex on their first meeting. In this instance, though, it was to save his life as opposed to stop him from hitting Eiko.

    Clara Valac

Clara Valac

Debut: Chapter 5

A circus performer. She was sold by her family due to financial troubles and wants to reunite with them. After finding out the head of the circus has no intention of finding her parents and plans to sell her off, Iruma decides to buy her freedom.
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: Zig-zagged. She was sold by her family due to financial troubles, but Clara doesn't seem to mind her place in the circus. She admits to Azz to having tried to look for them on her own using proper channels, but was either rebuffed or failed due to circumstances outside her control.
  • Genki Girl: Like her demon counterpart, Clara's a hyperactive ditz who is almost always smiling 24/7.
  • Hammerspace: While lacking her demon counterpart's ability to store virtually anything on her person, Clara still manages to stuff an absurd amount of objects in her pockets. When she gives Iruma some tickets to come see her next performances, a slew of objects come spilling out.
  • Hidden Depths: As much of a hyperactive ditz as she is, Clara shows she does have a brain in Chapter 6, providing Azz with information regarding the Wonder Brothers' illegal human trafficking she procured herself.
  • Made a Slave: The head of the circus had no intention of reuniting with her family since he plans to pawn her off to a client, and if they get bored of her, he can just sell her.
  • Monster Clown: Part of her act. When she's first introduced, Clara wears a custom-made clown suit. It gets demolished during her performance, though she eventually repairs it toward the end of her debut chapter.
  • Mythology Gag: To show her loyalty to Iruma, she literally throws the Wonder Brothers' sign, DIO-style, directly into the Ringleader's face, exactly how original Clara in the original manga bashes a vending machine into the face of a False Friend demon who took advantage of her kindness.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: When the Ringleader tells her Iruma will work her like a slave until she dies, she replies "I know", then proceeds to smack him in the face with the large W sign.
  • Sinister Scythe: She uses a very large scythe to perform in the circus.

    Robin Bars

Robin Bars

Debut

The cook for who works for Babyls.
  • Adaptational Name Change: His family name in the original manga was Robin Balse. Here, his name is Robin Bars.
  • Supreme Chef: His job is to cook for everyone in Babyls. Considering their members are 6,666 people, including Opera, Kalego, Azz, Clara, and Iruma, it's quite a feat.

Others

    Eiko

Eiko

Debut: Chapter 2

A reporter who finds herself being assigned to report on Babyls.
  • Damsel in Distress: In an omake, when she was out to take a good photo, she unexpectedly runs into some criminals making a deal, and they start chasing and shooting at her. Then Iruma comes out of nowhere and saves her. Not only did she use her camera at the last second, it ended up making her being assigned to Babyls and earning first place.
  • Intrepid Reporter: Her job is to find out about Babyls and their Unexpected Successor who happens to be a boy her age.

    Camu-Camu

Camu-Camu

Debut: Chapter 3

Iruma's first partner after becoming the new Don. Camu-Camu also works within Walter City, and is constantly a target for assassination.
  • Badass in Distress: Subverted. Other criminals are trying to assassinate him, and he barely acknowledges them. That Iruma tries to save him is what makes Camu-Camu ally with Iruma and the Babyls crime family.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Because Iruma went out of his way to protect him while they're having a meeting, Camu-Camu decides to give Iruma his and his clan's support to Babyls.

    Eito Ifrit

Eito Ifrit

Debut: Chapter 4

One of the cops Azz works for

    Ringleader

Ringleader of Wonder Brothers Circus

Debut: Chapter 5

The boss of the famous Wonder Brothers circus. His presence in the city brings Babyls to his front door where they quickly establish a partnership, though Iruma quickly realizes something is off about him and his operations...
  • Arc Villain: Of Clara's introduction.
  • Bad Boss: While he puts up an affable front, the ringleader doesn't see his employees and circus performers as "people", constantly demanding they put on death-defying stunts for the sake of raking in money. And this is without mentioning his part in human trafficking, or how he's stringing Clara along and plans to sell her at some point.
  • Difficult, but Awesome: Deconstructed. Much of Wonder Brothers' income and fame comes from its daring and dangerous performances. When Iruma is taken backstage and sees the performers outside said performances, it's made clear they are being overworked and injured, but have no choice but to continue with said performances. As a result, their morale is at an all-time low. Iruma even states not a single person he saw backstage was smiling.
  • Greed: He's obsessed with money, most of which he gets from the circus and his "side" business.
  • Normal Fish in a Tiny Pond: He's a greedy troupe master who takes advantage of his performers, not to mention his ties to a human trafficking ring. However, he's small fish compared to the likes of the Babyls crime family, which he is aware of as he tries to avoid stepping on their toes. It does him little good as the second Iruma learns Clara is more or less a slave and will be sold off at some point, he decides to bring down the Wonder Brothers Circus by buying the property surrounding their current base of operations and then poaching his staff.

    Maemaro

Maemaro

Debut: Chapter 6

A Wonder Brothers cowboy who wears a skull mask.
  • Adaptational Attractiveness: In the original manga, his demon counterpart was literally nothing but bones. In the series, while we don't see his entire face, he appears to look a bit handsome.
  • Ambiguously Evil: On one hand, he's one of the Ringleader's cohorts working under him. On the other hand, he shows Iruma what was really going on with the performers. When the Ringleader tries to get him to fight Iruma, Opera, and Azz, he immediately quits on the spot, leaving his former boss to fend for himself.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Implied to be the reason he ditches his boss. When Iruma sees that the performers are afraid of losing their jobs, thus performing dangerous stunts for the audience, he decides to buy the abandoned amusement park, and hiring the performers as staff to provide them a safer means to have a job. Maemaro refuses to fight Iruma, and leaves the Ringleader at his mercy.
  • Know When to Fold Them: Instead of helping the Ringleader in dealing with Iruma, Maemaro decides to cut his losses and leaves his boss to deal with Babyls by himself.
  • Mysterious Backer: When the Ringleader is cornered by Iruma, he claims he's being backed by someone powerful and contacts Maemaro, implying he's connected to said backer or is the Wonder Brothers' backer himself.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: He leaves on the spot when his boss tries to get him to fight Iruma. Maemaro decides to ditch him to let him handle them himself.

    Ocho

Ocho

Debut: Chapter 7

Ameri's informant regarding Iruma's connections with the Babyls mafia. He also appears to be in the same organization as Maemaro.
  • Tattooed Crook: Has a noticeable tattoo on the back of his head and the base of the neck.
  • Scary Teeth: His teeth is as black as his original counterpart's.

    Ameri Azazel

Ameri Azazel

Debut: Chapter 7

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mafiaameri.png

Iruma's childhood friend who also lived in the slums with him. After his sudden disappearance, Ameri makes it her goal to find him.

  • Action Girl: She can kick ass, and spent nine years keeping order in the slums, and beat up anyone who tries to disrupt that.
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: Unlike the original Ameri, who is a prodigy, her father is a member of the 13 Crowns and the member of the Demon Border Patrol, this Ameri grew up in the slums with Iruma and her father's incarnation is nowhere to be seen, and he's the only thing she thinks of. Then he suddenly disappears and hasn't seen him all for nine years, which is justified when she knows people in the slums had been going missing. She wouldn't reunite with him until he becomes a Mafia boss where she intends to bring down Babyls and take back Iruma.
  • Abhorrent Admirer: In her character profiles, Ronove was trying to get her affections, and she clearly does not reciprocate.
  • Anime Hair: She has two pointed hairs in reminiscent of her original counterpart's horns, along with the rest of her hair being as curly.
  • Anti-Villain: In her first appearance, she talks to Ocho who tells her Iruma has became The Don of the Babyls Mafia, and has a strong dislike of them.
  • Childhood Friends: With Iruma, whom she was friends with since childhood.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: She wants to invoke this with Iruma, having planned dates with him since she was a child.
  • Crash-Into Hello: Unlike original Ameri's encounter with Iruma, which was by complete accident, this incarnation of Ameri deliberately invokes this on purpose to make their reunion as meaningful as possible.
  • Didn't Think This Through: She spent 9 years coming up a date with Iruma once she reunites with him, and take him back from the Babyls mafia. She didn't take the account that Iruma enjoys his life in the mafia and isn't as timid and an Extreme Doormat as he used to be (other than when someone asks him "please"). As such, her "perfect date" with Iruma has glaring flaws over what Iruma needs and wants and not just hers.
  • Endearingly Dorky: Just like her demonic counterpart, although she puts out a genuine aura of power and self confidence, she secretly has a deep love for romance stories (novels rather than the human manga she has Iruma read her in the main story). And she even deliberately engineers a Crash-Into Hello meeting with Iruma the first time they see each other in years in an attempt to woo him.
  • Even the Girls Want Her: She has a harem of girls who fawn over her.
  • Foil: To her original counterpart. The original Ameri met Iruma by chance with a Crash-Into Hello. Once she finds out he could read her manga collection, she wants to learn from human culture from Iruma and from the manga until she began to naturally fall for him, and Iruma wishing to get closer to her. Episode of Mafia was Childhood Friends with Iruma, and his sudden disappearance made it her goal to find and reunite with him. As such, she went out of her way to set up a date with him so that their reunion could be meaningful. However, the story makes it clear that Ameri harbors some animosity towards the Babyls mafia for his disappearance and wants to take him back no matter what, despite Iruma's positive upbringing.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: Ameri's distinctive curly hair can be seen next to Iruma when he was having a flashback at his time in the Slums.
    • If you pay attention, you can see her adjusting her hair in a broken window before walking into Iruma for the first time in at least a decade. As revealed at the end of the chapter, she deliberately set up the meeting to happen like something out of a romance.
  • I Will Find You: Her motivation in finding Iruma after being separated for nine years.
  • It Was a Gift: She has a blue ring on her left thumb. According to Osamu Nishi, the ring was a gift from Iruma when they were children, and she wore it around her neck. Even decades later, she kept it on her.
  • Single-Target Sexuality: Just like her original counterpart, she has male and female admirers, but she only has eyes for Iruma since she planned the perfect date with him for nine years. She even hates how Ronove tries to win her over
  • Thinks Like a Romance Novel: While her demon counterpart uses human manga as a frame of reference to plan out her dates, she literally read a romance novel as a reference to make her date with Iruma to be as perfect as possible despite just having to reunite with him.
  • Tiny Guy, Huge Girl: Like her original counterpart, she towers over Iruma. He barely goes up to her shoulders.
  • Younger Than They Look: She's at least 15 years old when Iruma reunites with her. Her tall frame and mature body can easily be mistaken for someone in her late teens.

    Ameri's gang
A group of delinquents who follows Ameri's leadership to make the slums a better place to live in
  • Alternate Self: Some of the members are based on the Babyls Student Council in the original manga. Graves is one of the noticeable members.
  • Crazy Jealous Guy: One of the members gets crazy when he sees Ameri spending time with Iruma on their date despite that she planned the whole thing for nine years.
  • Neighbourhood-Friendly Gangsters: Of the street gang variety by helping Ameri bring order to the slums.
