    In General
  • An Ice Person: Cryo is the embodiment of Teyvat's winters and frost.
  • Harmless Freezing: Being frozen in Teyvat is nothing more than an inconvenience and the victim will be no worse for wear once they thaw out, just ask Olaf. That said, its going to hurt if the frozen being is thawed out using a claymore.
  • Hidden Depths: A recurring theme amidst those with Cryo Visions are that they tend to hide their true feelings and personalities.

Kätzlein Cocktail
""How did the Destroyer of the Wine Industry become the Cat's Tail's mascot...?" Y—You're asking this just to make fun of me! Ohhh, you're awful! I won't be giving YOU any more drinks, not even water!"

Rarity: 4★
Birthday: January 18
Element: Cryo
Weapon: Bow
Model: Short Female
Constellation: Feles, the Cat
Specialty Dish: Definitely Not Bar Food! (Mondstadt Grilled Fish)
Normal Attack: Kätzlein Style
Elemental Skill: Icy Paws
Elemental Burst: Signature Mix
Utility Passive: Complimentary Bar Food (12% to cook HP-restoring dishes twice)
Affiliation: The Cat's Tail Bar

Bartender of the Cat's Tail Tavern and self-proclaimed "Wine Industry Slayer." Deeply embarrassed by the drunken antics of her father Draff, leader of the hunting bands of Springvale, she has set off on a one-girl crusade to sabotage Mondstadt's wine industry, starting with working as a bartender at Cat's Tail, where she busies herself making bad-tasting alcoholic drinks. Now if only her concoctions did not turn out far tastier than she'd like...

When not being forced to cater to the drunkards of Mondstadt, Diona uses her bartending knowledge to balance long-range damage-dealing, defense, and healing. Her Elemental Skill, Icy Paws, fires a pair of icy projectiles and at the same time bestows upon the active character a cat-shaped elemental shield and temporarily inflicts a Cryo effect on them, with its held form adding three projectiles and further boosting the shield's resilience. Her Elemental Burst, Signature Mix, tosses a flask of cold beverage on her enemies, leaving in its wake a "Drunken Mist" field, which periodically blows gusts of cold wind that deal Cryo damage to enemies and heals allies within.

In her quest to create the most wretched cocktail, Diona's ingenuity and the Springvale fairy's blessing bestows upon the shield of Icy Paws a movement speed boost and reduced stamina consumption for the active character, as well as on the Drunken Mist the ability to inflict an Attack penalty on enemies within. Once Diona masters the (hopefully) worst cocktail in all of Teyvat, Icy Paws increases in damage potency and resilience of its shield, in addition to the ability to cast a less potent form of the shield on Diona's allies, and the Drunken Mist gains the ability to restore some of Diona's Energy once it ends, sharply reduce the charging time of her aimed shots, and either increase the active character's incoming healing bonus while they have no more than half their HP or their Elemental Mastery otherwise.

Diona can be obtained from any banner.
  • Achilles' Heel: She shares Bennett's limitation of only being able to heal one character at a time (with her Elemental Burst). This normally isn't a big deal since the only party member who's at risk of taking damage is the active one, but in situations where the entire party can take damage, her limitations become more noticeable.
  • Animal Motifs: Cats, naturally. Being a Cat Girl aside, she works at the Cat's Tail Bar, has a pouch in the shape of a cat's paw, and her Constellation is a cat. Not to mention the palms of her gloves resemble a cat's paw, the bottom of her shoes have a cat's paw design, and if the way her shoes are designed is anything to go by, she also walks on the balls of her feet, similar to a cat.
  • Badass Adorable: Diona is a cute little Cat Girl who, despite her age, is still good at using her bow.
  • Barrier Warrior: Icy Paws has her shoot a pair of icy projectiles that home in on enemies; upon contact, they set up a cat's-head-shaped elemental shield with heightened resilience against Cryo damage; in its held form, she can fire five projectiles and enjoy an additional 75% boost to the shield's Damage Absorption Bonus in exchange for extending its cooldown time from six seconds to fifteen. Her second Constellation upgrade, Shaken, Not Purred, increases both the projectiles' damage and the shield's Damage Absorption Bonus by 15%, as well as allows Diona to create a shield for any co-op ally with half the Damage Absorption Bonus of her main shield and lasts five seconds.
  • Berserk Button: Praise for her drinks, because she wants them to taste horrible. At one point, Elzer pressed her button especially hard by saying that he wants to recruit her to Dawn Winery and help raise Mondstadt's viticultural profile even higher. He got bitten by her in response.
  • Bigotry Exception: Not exactly "bigotry" per se, but despite her hatred of alcohol, the people that drink it, and the people who manufacture it, she seems to have a high opinion of Lisa and gets along with Eula.note
  • Bizarre Beverage Use: Signature Mix has her toss a beverage mixer at enemies, releasing a freezing cocktail of alcohol to inflict Cryo damage. It can also heal any allies standing in the puddle.
  • Black-and-White Morality: Downplayed. Her views on alcohol can be summed as this: those who don't drink it or contribute to its production are good, while alcoholics, bartenders, wineries/brewers, and even bards who entertain drunkards are bad. Granted, she is shown to make exceptions for the latter, such as still caring about her oft-smashed father, getting along well with her employer Margaret, having a relatively high opinion of Lisa, and being stated to bond with Eula.
  • Blessed with Suck: Her character story reveals that, on the day of her seventh birthday, a spring fairy in Springvale literally blessed her so that her concoctions will always be "refreshing as springs of ever-melting snow," an encounter she keeps dismissing as a dream. Because of this, her idea of trying to make disgusting booze that turns people away from alcohol always fails when she gets praised for her mixes instead, and she never realizes why.
  • Broken Pedestal: Downplayed—her hatred for alcohol stems from her embarrassment at seeing her father Draff make a fool of himself while inebriated, but she still doesn't blame him or his drinking habits (she believes her father is faultless) as much as she blames alcohol itself.
  • Cat Girl: Diona is a Kätzlein (although her in-game profile says she's only "inherited trace amounts of non-human blood"), evidenced with her feline ears and tail. When she stretches her body, she does so like a cat. Her bloodline makes her and her father skillful hunters. The bar patrons at Cat's Tail once thought the ears and tail are just her gimmicks for her job, but to their surprise, they found out that they are real.
  • Combat Medic: Signature Mix creates a Drunken Mist field which simultaneously deals Cryo damage to all enemies and heals all characters within its radius. Her fourth-ascension passive, Drunkards' Farce, adds the ability to inflict a 10% Attack penalty on enemies; her fourth Constellation upgrade, Wine Industry Slayer, also adds a 60% reduction to the charging time of Diona's aimed shots, and her sixth, Cat's Tail Closing Time, allows it to either increase allies' Healing Bonus while they have no more than half their HP or increase their Elemental Mastery by 200 points otherwise.
  • Cordon Bleugh Chef: Enforced. She's to drinks what Xiangling is to food; the difference is that Diona does not intend her drinks to be anything close to tasty. This is, however, because of a fairy's blessing that made every drink she prepares as tasty; as a result, every drink she makes ends up being well-liked by the bar patrons, which just leaves Diona sighing in frustration.
  • Daddy's Girl: Diona adores her father except when he has been drinking. So much so that this is her motivation to destroy Monstadt's wine industry.
(about Her Father) "I adore my Daddy more than anyone else! He's the greatest! But... Daddy after he drinks, ugh... Argh! I must bring an end to the wine industry of Mondstadt, and soon! No time for chit-chat!"
  • Denial of Animality: At least in one of her lines, she insists that "she's not a cat" when she is catching butterflies, claiming that she is going to need them for her cocktails.
  • Everyone Has Standards: While she may want to destroy Mondstadt's wine industry, even she knows better than to let Klee near Cat's Tail.
(about Klee) "Every time Klee wants to play with me, I take her somewhere far from the tavern. Alcohol and explosives... yeah, that's a dangerous combination! I mean, do I want to destroy the wine industry of Mondstadt? Yes, but not in that sense!"
  • Foil: To Xiangling. Both are masters of their respective crafts despite their use of "questionable" ingredients, but where Diona was blessed by a fairy so that any drink she makes will always be outstanding, Xiangling earned her culinary chops through sheer hard work. Diona also actively tries to make the worst drink imaginable while Xiangling strives to continually improve her skills. Finally, they form a Fire/Ice Duo with their Visions.
  • Furry Reminder: Her Kätzlein blood makes her behave like a typical cat. She's a Tsundere, a skillful hunter, likes to stretch like a cat, and walks on her toes instead of the sole.
  • Gargle Blaster: She intended for her alcoholic concoctions to be so nasty, anyone unfortunate enough to drink it would swear off alcohol for the rest of their lives. Her results, on the other hand, turn out anything but the dreadful drinks she is trying to make.
(about Chat: Thinking) "Lizard Tail, Pepper, Starconch... what else do I need to create the most dreadfully disgusting cocktail?"
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: It doesn't take much to rile Diona. Of course, she'd have you believe she's very tolerant.
  • Hypocritical Humor: In one route of her Hangout Event tree, Diona gives her usual spiel about hating alcohol and wanting to make disgusting drinks, but if the player chooses to suggest that her cocktails aren't that special and that they'd prefer playing with cats to drinking them she'll be hopping mad. Then again, kind of justified given her tsundere attitude.
  • Irony: She hates alcohol and wants to ruin the wine industry in Mondstadt, hence her self-proclaimed title of "Wine Industry Slayer." The game describes her mixing methods as impeccable, and her Character Details section states that she does not actually intend to make delicious cocktails. Therefore, her products are contrary to her goals.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: An extremely grumpy girl who wants to destroy the wine industry despite the fact her retribution is misplaced and it's her dad to blame. That said, she's a Daddy's Girl and can sometimes show kindness to others (if in her own way).
  • Kids Hate Vegetables: Her least favorite food is this. Somewhat justified given cats (and quite possible Kätzlein, like herself) are carnivore.
"Carrots, potatoes, onions, tomatoes... yuck, I don't like the taste of any of those vegetables. In fact, I don't eat vegetables at all!"
  • Lethal Chef: Subverted. Becoming a bad bartender who purposely makes bad drinks is her life goal; unfortunately, a fairy's blessing causes all her attempts at making bad drinks fall well below expectations, as her customers find them delicious. It's a telling sign when in her Hangout Event, the Traveler succeeds in making a truly terrible drink when she can't, much to her dismay.
    • It's played straight when it comes to food, though. In her and Xiangling's voice lines for each other, they exchanged knowledge of ingredients; while Xiangling's intentionally horrible food combination (as requested by Diona) ends up as praised, Diona's recipes for Xiangling, naturally, end up coming out as awful.
  • Misplaced Retribution: Daddy's Girl she is, she blames Mondstadt's wine industry and alcohol for Draff's drinking problem instead of Draff himself, and thus tries to destroy the industry by being a bartender that mixes bad drinks to turn people away from alcohol. Combined with how she thinks making people think alcohol tastes bad would turn the people away from it—which is a thought common to children—it shows how childish her thought process still is.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: This was what led to her gaining her Vision—she broke one of her "characters" to keep another in place. After she saved her father from a grueling storm, she offered to mix him a drink to ease his injuries, and he gladly appreciated it. At her core, she still loves her father, even if she may not like to see him being drunk (and she still looked down on alcohol after that incident).
  • Or Was It a Dream?: As a child, Diona used to come out at night and talk with a spring fairy south of Springvale. On her seventh birthday, it appeared to her for the last time and gave her a blessing to "have her cup always run over with sweet wine of celebration." Years later, Diona has forgotten her encounter, and when she does, she tends to dismiss them as childhood dreams.
  • Power Stereotype Flip: A Cryo Vision holder who, instead of distant and stoic, is a modern Harsh Tsundere.
  • Red Baron: The self-proclaimed "Wine Industry Slayer."
  • Regenerating Mana: Her first Constellation upgrade, Lingering Flavor, restores 15 Energy once the Drunken Mist field dissipates.
  • Springtime for Hitler: While Diona intentionally tries to mix horrible drinks to turn her customers off from alcohol, they always somehow end up tasting amazing, making her an incredibly popular bartender. She only applied as a bartender as her first step in her plan to destroy Mondstadt's wine industry, which has only really had the opposite effect.
  • Status Buff: Her first-ascension passive, Cat's Tail Secret Menu, allows the shield generated by Icy Paws to increase the movement speed of the active character and reduce their stamina consumption by 10% each.
  • Stock Animal Diet: Like typical cats, she loves fish.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Inverted. Diona looks nothing like her father Draff due to him using a generic Mondstat NPC model. They do, however, both have cat ears.
  • Support Party Member: Diona offers a bit of everything — healing, low-cooldown cleansing, and low-cooldown shielding.
  • Token Mini-Moe: Diona is, to date, the smallest of the playable Mondstadt cast outside the Knights of Favonius (and presumably among the youngest, with Klee from the Knights being stated to hail from a longer-lived race).
  • Tsundere: A modern Harsh type, befitting both a rebellious young girl and a cat.
    • She may sometimes show some "vulnerability" or speak about something nice, only to act harshly afterward to protect her dignity.
(About Good Night) "Without cat vision, will you be okay walking home in the dark? If you need me to escort you... Huh? There's lights? ...Wh-Who said anything about escorting you? Go on now."
    • In one of the scenarios of her Hangout Event, choosing the Stealth-Based Mission option to sneak into a Hilichurl tribe will have Diona show concern for the Traveler's safety while simultaneously denying said concerns:
"D-Don't think that I'm worried about you. Because I'm not! If you get noticed, then I'll definitely be in trouble too. So just be careful, okay?"
    • She acts like this towards the Cat's Tail's cats as well. Despite routinely expressing how annoying they are and how irritating it is that some customers are only there to play with the kitties, it's noted that she understands each individual cat's personality very well, orders them custom toys and food, and personally cares for them when off shift.
  • Unseen No More: NPCs talked about Diona prior to her addition in v1.1. These include her father Draff and distant ancestor Olaf following Xiangling's Story Quest, along with various advertisements for Cat's Tail specifically advertising her as their new bartender.
  • Unknown Rival: While she despises anyone who drinks or has remotely anything to do with alcohol, she sees Diluc as her worst enemy due to him owning the largest winery in Mondstadt. He is largely unaware of her enmity, and is even surprised at the thought of another bartender who hates alcohol just like him.
  • Upgrade Artifact: A variant—her third and fifth Constellation upgrades, A-Another Round? and Double Shot, On The Rocks, increase the talent levels of, respectively, Signature Mix and Icy Paws by three.
  • Vague Age: Diona talks like a child, looks like a child, and acts like a child, but she is a bartender, and the legal drinking age in Tevyat is late teens or early twenties. It is possible that the Cat's Tail hired her as a server despite not being able to legally consume it, which would explain this. The "Of Drink A-Dreaming" event supports this, as while the Traveler is only allowed to brew non-alcoholic drinks, the reasoning has nothing to do with their apparent age. It helps that Diona is likely to have never actually drunk her own mixes as she intended them to taste horrible.
  • Verbal Tic: In the Japanese dub, she often adds "-nya" at the end of her sentences.

Dance of the Shimmering Wave
"Since I'm a genuine Knight of Favonius, I fulfill my duties like any other self-respecting individual would. Look, I may be a descendant of a disgraced ruling elite, but I'm not a total degenerate!"

Rarity: 5★
Birthday: October 25
Element: Cryo
Weapon: Claymore
Associated Weapon: Song of Broken Pines
Model: Tall Female
Constellation: Aphros Delos, The Sea-foam Apparition
Specialty Dish: Stormcrest Pie (Moon Pie)
Normal Attack: Favonius Bladework - Edel
Elemental Skill: Icetide Vortex
Elemental Burst: Glacial Illumination
Utility Passive: Aristocratic Inspection (10% chance to craft Character Talent Materials twice).
Affiliation: Knights of Favonius

The Spindrift Knight and the Captain of the Knights' Reconnaissance Company. A descendant of a disgraced aristocratic clan who once ruled Mondstadt with an iron fist before they were overthrown by the fledgling Knights of Favonius a thousand years ago, it is an enigma as to why a scion of a family much-despised for their tyranny would join the Knights at all.

Eula's aristocratic upbringing reflects on her graceful fighting style, which allows her to wail away at her enemies with little worry over her momentum breaking. Her Elemental Skill, Icetide Vortex, is a swift, icy slash that grants her a stack of "Grimheart," of which she can hold up to two at a time, which increases her Defense and interruption resistance; in its held form, she will perform a wide-ranging dash attack, which reduce her enemies' Physical and Cryo Resistances, as well as convert any Grimheart on stock into "Icewhirl Brands" that deal additional Cryo damage. Her Elemental Burst, Glacial Illumination, has her swing her claymore around and summon a phantasmal "Lightfall Sword" which protects her from interruption and which she can charge up with any attack, before dropping down onto her enemies once either its time runs out or she is switched out.

As Eula continues to perfect her Lawrence-honed swordplay in the service of Mondstadt, the held form of Icetide Vortex with two Grimhearts on stock gains the ability to summon a "Shattered Lightfall Sword" that immediately detonates for half the damage potency of its "whole" counterpart, and triggering Glacial Illumination resets the cooldown time of Icetide Vortex as well as confer onto it one Grimheart. Once Eula has fully reconciled her dubious heritage and her pride as a Knight of Favonius, the held form of Icetide Vortex enjoys a reduction to its cooldown time such that it matches that of its base form, as well as confer Eula a temporary boost to her Physical Damage depending on the number of Grimhearts consumed; and the Lightfall Sword increases in potency against enemies with less than half their HP, in addition to starting with a small amount of energy stacks and gaining the ability to randomly charge up through the party's normal attacks and Elemental Talents.

Eula can only be obtained when the Born of Ocean Swell Character Event Wish is active.
  • 13 Is Unlucky: Coincidental or not, between her first rerun in 2.3 and her second rerun in 3.8, Eula was absent from the gacha for 13 versions (or over one year and a half), the longest hiatus of any non-standard banner 5★ character to date.
  • Actually Pretty Funny: She couldn't help but laugh at Venti's songs making fun of the Lawrence Clan, though she also (ineffectively) threatens to punish him for this.
  • All the Other Reindeer: Eula had this bad thanks to being part of a family of aristocrats in a city that had long since overthrown them. She couldn't even go out to buy groceries, and Amber was her only friend. Even in the present, others who aren't aware of how reliable she is are afraid of her.
  • Astonishingly Appropriate Appearance: Her light blue hair, coupled with the blue parts of her clothes (such as her gloves, sleeves, cape, tights, and tie) and her crystal-shaped bluish-white claymore pretty much give away her status as a Cryo Vision holder as well as a noblewoman.
  • Big Sister Instinct: In the "Shadows Amidst Snowstorms" event, she takes a quick liking to Joel, a young boy who is looking for his father Joserf in Dragonspine, who refers to her as "Aunty Eula" due to his unfamiliarity with her family's ill reputation, which leads to him treating her a lot kinder than most others. It's gotten to point that when she thinks she saw Albedo leading Joel to a monster-infested area and shoves him away when she approaches, she's quite furious and confronts the real Albedo for his impostor's actions.
  • Birds of a Feather: She gets along with Diona who, like her, seeks revenge against a local institution she ostensibly works for (the wine industry, in Diona's case). They also both have Cryo Visions.
  • Broken Ace: She is stated to be equal to Jean in combat according to Varka, and is also as talented as the latter with many accomplishments in the battlefield. But while Jean is The Ace and is beloved by the people of Mondstadt, she is the exact opposite because of her clan's historical sins.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: Eula loves to pretend she's a villain out for vengeance on the Knights of Favonius, even though she is anything but.
(About Hello) "Huh? What's that...? Yes, Lawrence, the evil aristocrats of historical infamy. Oh, we're still very much evil. Just look at me, I'm infiltrating the inner ranks of the Knights of Favonius, all as part of a diabolical plan to exact our revenge and reclaim our former glory!"
  • Catchphrase: "Vengeance will be mine!", or some derivative thereof. Usually accompanied by "Mark my words" at the start. She says it multiple times throughout her story quest and it's noted that she's always claiming vengeance, not that she actually means it (in the traditional sense, at least). Notably, during the "Shadows Amidst Snowstorm" event not once did Eula utter it, which can be attributed to her being in a good mood while being around people she trusts and/or who don't really care or know about her lineage.
  • Category Traitor: The Lawrence Clan have long regarded the Knights of Favonius as their arch-enemies. Joining the Knights means that she's no more welcome among her own Clan than in the rest of Mondstadt.
  • Childhood Friends: With Amber.
    • Eula's character stories explain that Amber had known her long before she joined the Knights of Favonius, and even vouched for her when she joined; conversely, Amber is one of the few people she genuinely trusts.
    • Eula's Story Quest begins with Amber suggesting to the Traveler to ask her for help infiltrating the Lawrence Clan due to reports of their collusion with the Fatui. Midway through, Amber, together with Good Hunter receptionist Sara, helped explain to the Traveler that Eula is a good person who is bad at expressing herself because she's never been able to speak normally to anyone.
    • In the "Shadows Amidst Snowstorms" event, it's shown that Eula is close enough to Amber to let her watch her back as she takes a bath.
  • Cooldown Manipulation: Eula's fourth-ascension passive, Wellspring of War-Lust, resets the cooldown time of Icetide Vortex whenever she unleashes Glacial Illumination, as well as automatically bestows her one Grimheart. Her second Constellation upgrade, Lady of Seafoam, also reduces that of the charged form of Icetide Vortex from ten seconds to four, rendering it identical to its base form.
  • Critical Hit Class: Her Ascension stat is Critical Damage (which can reach 38.4% at her sixth), which lends itself well to her high damage potential.
  • Damage-Increasing Debuff: If Eula has Grimhearts on stock, the charged version of Icetide Vortex will consume them to reduce enemies' Physical and Cryo Resistances for seven seconds, in addition to creating Icewhirl Brands that deal additional Cryo damage.
  • Dance Battler: Eula's fighting style is based on the "Dance of Sacrifice" that was practiced by the Lawrence Clan to demonstrate their nobility. In the present it's no longer a requirement with the Clan, having since been taken up by all Mondstadtians. The dance was Eula's favorite pastime when she was younger, so she incorporated it into her swordplay, and was so good at it that it leaves Amber mesmerized when she sees it.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: She has been ostracized for most of her life and is even stated in her profile that most Mondstadtians refuse to sell her anything because she's a Lawrence, perhaps the most hated clan in Mondstadt. Despite her wealth, she had to much hunt for her own food and cook it under a campfire just to eat. Is it any wonder she is the way she is?
  • Deadpan Snarker: She hardly ever breaks her stiff upper-class tone, which only makes her frequent bouts of sarcasm and general passive-aggressiveness that much drier and blunter.
(Opening a treasure chest) "Heh, at least good luck doesn't discriminate by clan!"
  • Death from Above:
    • The charged form of Icetide Vortex converts any Grimheart on stock into Icewhirl Brands that drop down on enemies and deal extra Cryo damage.
    • Glacial Illumination summons a Lightfall Sword which will drop down on her enemies once its timer runs out (or Eula is switched out). Her first-ascension passive, Roiling Rime, allows her to generate a "Shattered" form with half the potency of its "whole" counterpart whenever she consumes two Grimhearts at once with the held form of Icetide Vortex.
  • Defector from Decadence: Eula left her family behind to serve Mondstadt as one of the Knights of Favonius, and is prepared to end the "Lawrence" name herself if they continue to make trouble.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: One that's still in the process of defrosting. However, she becomes attached a bit to the Traveler and, despite her mixed messages, is far nicer than it would be apparent.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Her way of demonstrating noble etiquette to the Traveler, as she chose to go about it by walking up to random people without explaining what's going on to practice on despite knowing how badly that would turn out. Already barely tolerated by the cityfolk at this point even with her normal behavior, attempting the noble manner of speech angers everyone she tries it on. And the fact that she's obviously bad at it only serves to make things worse, as the people think she's playing the part of the noble when they find it hurtful. After the last man she speaks with calls her out for this inappropriate behavior, she acknowledges that he's right.
  • Difficult, but Awesome: Though she's capable of some of the most ludicrously large single-hit attacks in the game, pulling this off isn't easy since it requires precise combos of attacks to power up Glacial Illumination, in addition to using Superconduct and other effects to reduce physical resistance since most tough enemies have a lot of it.
  • Disappointed by the Motive: Along with pretty much everything else about her family. She lays into her uncle Schubert for trying to take over Mondstadt with the help of the Fatui, and declares that the form of glory the Lawrence Clan so desperately desires can never return, and never should.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Played for Laughs. She declares she'll exact her "vengeance" on Sara for leaving a free salad for their meal. She ends up paying her back... by literally paying for the dish, leaving the mora on the table so Sara can't just decline it.
  • Drowning My Sorrows: Though Eula is usually quite mellow and cavalier about her status as a pariah, in the "Of Drink A-Dreaming" event we see a lonelier, more vulnerable side of her. She gets absolutely wasted after yet another reminder of how inescapable her tainted family legacy is. She admits that even with this level of intoxication, she still can't delude herself into believing that things will ever get much better for her. Her promotional teaser video implies she has dabbled with this trope more than once.
  • Elemental Personalities: Played with. While not emotionless and stoic, Eula is (no pun intended) a bit of an ice queen and possesses a Cryo Vision.
  • Exposed to the Elements: Exaggerated. Not only is Eula unbothered by the cold of Dragonspine, but she also enjoys taking a bath in a frozen lake! Not that this is reflected in-game, of course.
  • Faster Than They Look: Not a Mighty Glacier as one might expect, but Eula is the fastest-swinging claymore unit at the time of her introduction, comparable to sword units. Her signature weapon further increases her attack speed.
  • Foil: Eula has two foils in Mondstadt:
    • Diluc: Both are claymore wielders with noble backgrounds and a negative family history with the Knights of Favonius. In contrast, Diluc is a red-themed Pyro Vision holder who feels the Knights passively failed his family by trying to cover up the circumstances surrounding the death of his father Crepus (actually conducted by a traitor aligned with the Fatui), causing him to quit, while Eula is a blue-themed Cryo Vision holder who joined the Knights despite its history of having been founded by a rebellion against her ancestors' tyrannical rule a millennium ago. Diluc maintains a polite demeanor even while making his distaste for the Knights open, whereas Eula adopts an off-putting, aggressive tone that makes people question her otherwise genuine loyalty to the Knights.
    • Amber: Both are childhood friends with a "Fire/Ice Duo" dynamic and serve reconnaissance roles within the Knights of Favonius. Eula, however, is a blue-themed Cryo Vision holder who wields a claymore and specializes in dealing with her enemies up-close, while Amber is a red-themed Pyro Vision holder and archer whose fighting style specializes in dealing damage from afar. Eula is cold and standoffish, while Amber is warm and lively. Eula leads a company, while Amber works solo due to the obsolescence of her position as Outrider.
  • Freudian Excuse: Her ice-cold, standoffish personality has been forged amidst the background of centuries-old tensions between the people of Mondstadt and her family of stuck-up ex-nobles who once ruled the nation with an iron fist. On the one hand, the former made sure she never forgot her ancestors' crimes; on the other hand, the latter have more or less disowned her after, seemingly against all reason, she joined the Knights of Favonius, the same organization that overthrew them long ago.
  • Friend to All Children: Downplayed. Players don't see her interact with children often, much less their reaction to her, considering her family's infamy. However, if her interactions with Joel in the "Shadows Amidst Snowstorms" event is anything to go by, she tends to treat them a bit gentler than she does most people, with her cutting back on her usual vitriolic dialogue when he does something she'd perceive as a "slight" from anyone else.
  • Gathering Steam: Glacial Illumination summons a Lightfall Sword, whose potency can be stacked (to a maximum of thirty) with her normal attacks and Elemental Talents, increasing its potency once it explodes either after seven seconds or once Eula is switched out. Her sixth Constellation upgrade, Noble Obligation, automatically grants the Sword five stacks, as well as gives all her (multiplayer) allies' attacks a 50% chance to produce the charges.
  • Good Is Not Nice: She's a Knight who is firmly devoted to protecting Mondstadt, but she also happens to be a very prickly woman who likes swearing vengeance on people )even though she doesn't mean anything by them).
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: Downplayed—her fellow Knights are very fond of her, and some of the more knowledgeable cityfolk trust Jean's judgment that Eula means no harm enlisting with them. Everyone else, however, distrusts her for her family lineage, with some outright petitioning the Knights to turn her away when she first joined. Likewise, her own kin also hates her for joining the Knights, which deposed them centuries ago. There are pockets of Mondstadtians, such as Diluc and Sara, who are amicable with her, but they are few enough that the Traveler and Paimon are concerned as to how she goes about life so peacefully.
  • An Ice Person: Played with; she does utilize a Cryo Vision, but notably, her biggest source of damage comes from physical damage.
  • Immune to Flinching: Grimhearts produced by Icetide Vortex and the Lightfall Sword summoned by Glacial Illumination reduce her risk of being interrupted, in addition to boosting her Defense by 30% apiece (to a maximum of 60%).
  • Ineffectual Death Threats: This is how Eula gets people to listen to her. She never carries them out, although she claims she will one day. Others realize after getting to know her that she's too kind to go through with that.
  • Insistent Terminology: She declares that she will take "vengeance" on almost anything anyone does to or for her, for good or ill. Her idea of what constitutes "vengeance" is extremely wide, however, and includes avenging the Traveler stealing her kill by saving them in a Big Damn Heroes moment and avenging Sara giving her a free meal by leaving money for it on the table anyway.
  • In Vino Veritas: The "Of Drink A-Dreaming" event shows her plastered after a night at Cat's Tail, where she's less uptight in tone and more forthcoming with her insecurities. The title of the particular sub-quest is even "Solid Ice, Soluble in Wine."
  • Irony: The claymore she wields during her Story Quest, the Song of Broken Pines, is described in flavor text as the embodiment of war songs Mondstadtian rebels throughout history used when marching against either Decarabian or the Lawrence Clan, her own lineage. Generally, it is considered to be tailor-made for Eula with its substat of Physical Damage Bonus, which can reach 20.7% at Level 90, further amplifying her already impressive damage output. In addition, at its fifth and final refinement, its "Rebel's Banner Hymn" passive grants her a 32% Attack boost, in addition to the ability to gather "Sigils of Whispers" with her normal or charged attacks, which will be immediately consumed once four are collected to trigger "Millennial Movement: Banner-Hymn" for twelve seconds, which gives the party a further 40% boost to Attack and 24% to attacking speed (at the cost of being unable to stack Sigils for twenty seconds), which makes her even faster than she already is.
  • Jerk Justifications: Given that Eula's own family more or less disowned her for joining the organization that brought them down a millennium ago, yet most Mondstadtians give her the cold shoulder despite her service, it's no surprise as to why Eula would be so grumpy and cold to begin with, even if it was a front she puts on.
(More About Eula: II) "People tell me that if I just spoke more softly, or was more polite, or acted more deferentially, others may find it easier to forgive me, but the only reason they think that way is because they've never been branded a pariah before. There is no easy path to redemption when you're a social pariah. [...]"
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She has quite the sharp tongue, and she is cold and aloof, but it's very obvious that it's just a coping mechanism for general distrust towards her due to her family's ill repute. She loves throwing death threats left, right, and center, and even claims to be working with the Knights of Favonius in order to take them down someday to avenge her clan. That said, the few people who get to know her very well know that she really doesn't mean it, and is actually far kinder beneath that frosty mask. Jean even said that she's just misunderstood.
Namecard Description: "A cold heart is but a shell to protect oneself."
  • Knight in Sour Armor: In contrast to Jean being a Knight in Shining Armor, Eula is definitely a Knight and does her best to protect the city of Mondstadt. But due to her past experiences, she's not the nicest person around and the common people of Mondstadt absolutely detest her.
  • Lady of War: Eula's animations and mannerisms convey grace, power, and authority.
  • Lightning Bruiser: What distinguishes Eula from her fellow claymore units is that, in addition to boasting optimal Defense and enormous Attack stats, she is also innately swift and can stock up Grimhearts to increase her defense and flinching resistance, as well as consume them for greater damage output. Better still, the base form of Icetide Vortex only has a four-second-long cooldown, which is just long enough to get her standard combo off. Her second Constellation upgrade, Lady of Seafoam, will further drop the cooldown time of the held version from ten seconds to four (hence matching it with the base form), allowing Eula to be even more relentless. In general, Eula's Constellation upgrades lean heavily into her Burst damage as well, which greatly amplifies her damage-dealing potential even more.
  • Luminescent Blush: While hard to see, she sports a blush for a brief moment in the pose she takes following her fourth consecutive normal attack.
  • Ma'am Shock: Surprisingly averted. When Joel calls her "Aunty Eula," Paimon was worried that she might get angry and perform her usual routine (read: exact vengeance) but to Paimon's surprise, she doesn't react negatively to it.
  • Meaningful Name: "Eula" is the short form of "Eulalie" or "Eulalia", which is derived from the Ancient Greek "Eulalos", meaning "sweetly-speaking" or "well-spoken". Doubles as Ironic Name, because while Eula is harshly sarcastic and thus not a "sweet-speaker", she is of noble lineage (and her Story Quest even involves noble etiquette lessons she gives to help the Traveller deal with Schubert) and thus "well-spoken" is well-suited for her.
  • Mirror Character: With Rosaria. Both are Cryo Vision holders who work hard to protect Mondstadt despite their jaded outlook on life due to a harsh adolescence.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Eula wears leotard-like clothes that nicely cling onto her body, showing off her impressive buxom and curves, in addition to a fair amount of skin exposed on her back, her top having a translucent segment running down to her navel (and showing she doesn't wear a bra), and her long legs clad and accentuated in thigh-high boots. She is also an excellent dancer capable of graceful and fluid movement both on and off the battlefield.
  • My Eyes Are Up Here: Eula's introductory trailer is filled with copious Male Gaze while she's talking about her backstory, followed by chiding Aether that it's proper etiquette to look a noblewoman in the eyes when she's talking to you.
  • My Species Doth Protest Too Much: Eula is apathetic towards the Lawrence Clan's attempts to regain a position of prestige they lost a millennium ago. All she's personally known is how difficult being a Lawrence has made her life, as beyond the cold suspicion most Mondstadtians regards her with, the posturing and rampant traditionalism her Clan tried to ingrain into her did little but make her childhood more miserable. She's spent her life away from them trying to shake off that legacy.
  • Navel-Deep Neckline: Relatively subtle and usually partly covered by her tie, but her top has a translucent segment running down the center.
  • Navel Outline: An interesting example. The mesh segment of her uniform has a gold-colored metallic decoration over where her navel would be.
  • Non-Elemental: Although Eula is nominally a Cryo Vison holder, she actually excels in dealing physical damage. Icetide Vortex, relatively her most Cryo-aligned attack, has a rather mediocre damage output compared to her normal strikes and especially Glacial Illumination, which can be the biggest single-hit damage in the game.
  • No Social Skills: Justified, as her family name is so despised in Mondstadt that she can't say anything without making someone mad, so she's given up watching what she says. Because of this, however, she also has a tendency to make way more trouble than is necessary; pretty much anyone else trying to demonstrate noble interactions to the Traveler would probably have decided on a better target group than random people who have no idea what's going on and would have every reason to be offended by this—which is what she expected them to do, to show her situation to Paimon and the Traveler. It's even stated that new recruits in the Knights of Favonius find it hard to understand her. One recruit stated that, apparently, Eula's idea of a "tea break" when marching straight to Jean's office looking like she wanted to kill somebody actually means "sparring."
  • Odd Friendship: With Amber. Everything about them contrasts, from their color schemes and personalities to their weapons and Visions, and yet Amber is still Eula's first and closest friend. That said, Amber's grandfather did train Eula, due to said training, both Eula and Amber hold similar scouting positions within the Knights, and Amber's family hasn't been in Mondstadt long enough to have the culturally-ingrained grudge against the Lawrence Clan.
  • Odd Name Out: Her Constellation name is Greek, unlike the others which are in Latin.
  • Perpetual Frowner: Eula rarely has a smile on her face and is almost always frowning. This doesn't help the hatred from the common folk of Mondstadt.
  • Pet the Dog: Though she gets exasperated at just how horrible Bennet's luck seems to be, she didn't hold it against him, even after several close calls with avalanches in Dragonspine. She looks out for his physical and mental wellbeing, and not once does she consider abandoning him. When he and Albedo get caught in yet another avalanche, she immediately leads Amber and the Traveler in rescuing them once the dust settles.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Again, not that she can be blamed due to her family's ill repute, but people had justifiably stated that had she just spoken more softly and acted more politely and respectfully, others may find it a lot easier to be around her. With Eula's sharp tongue, and her constant talk of getting revenge for the sake of the Lawrence Clan (a family of oppressors that nobody likes), even though she's not serious about it, it could really rub people off the wrong way.
  • Power Glows: Whenever Eula has Grimhears on stock, her half-cape will glow silvery white, and whenever they are consumed by the held form of Icetide Vortex, her claymore will glow with a golden light and the glacial seal of the Lawrence Clan will manifest over the crossguard.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The cold and icy Blue to Amber's passionate and fiery Red. Literally too, given their color schemes and Visions.
  • The Rival: She sees herself as this to Jean. They spar quite often according to her bios. One of her quotes while ascending has her declare that with her getting this much power, even Jean herself would be no match for her.
  • Sexy Backless Outfit: With the exception of a lone strap her outfit exposes much of her bare back behind her half-cape.
  • Signature Move: Standing with her legs crossed and arms up holding her claymore behind her back. It's the pose she takes in most of her official artwork and she also briefly holds this pose between her fourth and fifth consecutive normal attacks.
  • Sins of Our Fathers: Her lineage has caused her to be ostracized by the people of Mondstadt, despite doing everything in her power to protect them herself.
  • Situational Damage Attack: Her fourth Constellation upgrade, The Obstinacy of One's Inferiors, increases her damage output by 25% against enemies with less than half their HP.
  • Skinny Dipping: One of her hobbies is bathing in cold lakes or other such bodies of water, including, implicitly, in Dragonspine.
  • Sophisticated as Hell: Her attempts to force people to respect her can be funny at times.
(More About Eula: II) "[...] I'm more inclined to stop tiptoeing around everyone all the time and just get out there and make them respect me the old-fashioned way! As in, we square off and if they win, I humbly accept my punishment, but if they lose, they must acquiesce to my demands... Such as... Well, I mean, if I want to buy a loaf of bread, take my darn money, for crying out loud!"
  • Sore Loser: She once sparred with Varka; it ended in a tie because Eula could easily tell he was holding back on her. She took it very personally as a sign of indignity, to the point that she claims she will never let this one go.
  • Status Buff: Icetide Vortex generates Grimhearts (of which Eula can hold up to two at a time), which increase her Defense by 30% apiece (to a maximum of 60%), as well as interruption resistance, for eighteen seconds. Her first Constellation upgrade, Tidal Illusion, also gives them a six-second-long 30% Attack buff per Grimheart consumed, which can be stacked to increase their duration by six seconds each (to a maximum of eighteen).
  • The Starscream: Subverted. She wants to crush the Knights of Favonius for the sake of vengeance... or so she claims. The people who do know her very well know that she's really not that serious about it.
  • The Stoic: She is stated to have a cold and frosty demeanor and has quite the sharp tongue but it's very obvious that this is an emotional armor due to all the persecution she experienced all her life.
  • Stop Being Stereotypical: Complains about how outdated and unpleasant noble traditions are, and is disgusted by the fact that her family still clings to the very values that the rest of Mondstadt despises them for, having apparently never learned their lesson. She has resolved to bring down her own clan if they step out of line again in her lifetime.
  • Supreme Chef: Even the moon-shaped pies Eula makes as field rations are incredible. There's a dark side to this as cooking was one of many skills that were relentlessly drilled into her by her family.
  • Then Let Me Be Evil:
    • Averted in general. No matter how badly the people of Mondstadt treat her, Eula is a dedicated defender of the City and never responds to the people's hostility with more than some barbed comments.
    • Her abrasive demeanor is a downplayed case. Her character stories mention that people have suggested she try being more polite and less antagonistic to lessen the amount of hostility she receives. Eula retorts that such words are rich coming from people who aren't pariahs. She feels the citizens of Mondstadt will hate her regardless, with the implication that she has tried this in the past, so she might as well fire back.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Wears this expression when the Traveler and Paimon ask her to demonstrate aristocratic etiquette, knowing how badly it's going to turn out. She does try, but not only does it make everyone she talks to even angrier with her than usual, she's very obviously out of practice and is struggling to remember the particulars. It also serves to show the two firsthand how common people deal with her on a daily basis.
  • Tsundere: A modern Harsh example that's played with. Eula is frosty, cold, and haughty, but is far nicer than she shows in public. Though she constantly talks of vengeance for perceived slights, she never seems to carry this out, and when she does, it turns out to involve doing something nice—for example, sneakily leaving payment for a free salad after acting angry upon receiving it. Unfortunately, most of the people of Mondstadt take her rudeness at face value.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Seems to love drinking anything cold which befits her personality, and she said it's one of her favorite hobbies. Much like everything else, this ostracizes her as the tendency in Monstadt is to take drinks at room temperature.
  • Tsurime Eyes: She sports sharp-looking eyes which complement her cold personality.
  • Upgrade Artifact: A variant—her third and fifth Constellation upgrades, Lawrence Pedigree and Chivalric Quality, increase the talent levels of, respectively, Glacial Illumination and Icetide Vortex by three.
  • Vapor Wear: She has a see-through opening on the sides of her outfit and matching her transparent Navel-Deep Neckline, which implies that she doesn't have conventional underwear.
  • Villainous Lineage: The Lawrence Clan used to be slave owners and tyrants, sins the people of Mondstadt have not forgotten even centuries after their fall from grace.
  • Weapon Specialization: Promo material depicts her wielding the Song of Broken Pines, a legendary claymore that debuted in the weapon banner complementing her launch. She also wields it during her Story Quest. It's generally considered to be tailor-made for her, even stronger than the Wolf's Gravestone in her hands. Royal Greatsword is also shown being wielder by her in her character teaser trailer.
  • White Sheep: The rest of the Lawrence Clan consists of stuck-up, arrogant, unpleasant aristocrats who even after a thousand years wholeheartedly believe that they are entitled to rule over Mondstadt. Eula is the only known modern-day member of the Clan who has turned their back on the family's beliefs.
  • Worthy Opponent: Apparently, she once sparred with Varka, and it ended in a tie. Although she could easily tell he was obviously holding back. This enraged her to the core and took it as a sign of indignity. There's a high possibility that she also sees Jean as this, as they frequently spar in their free time as well.
  • Your Answer to Everything: She claims to swear vengeance against anyone over the most trivial of slights, but she never acts on it at worst. At best, her "vengeance" consists of her doing genuinely nice and helpful things for other people, like paying Sara back for leaving her a salad on the house by literally paying her back with mora, or taking "vengeance" on the Traveler for taking out her targets by following them during their investigation into her uncle to provide backup at an opportune moment, which the Traveler can jokingly state "makes them even."

Frostwind Swordsman
"Kaeya, Knight of Favonius. Please, allow me to join you on your journey. Guarding you on your journey sounds far more entertaining than any of the usual Favonius stuff."

Rarity: 4★
Birthday: November 30
Element: Cryo
Weapon: Sword
Model: Tall Male
Constellation: Pavo Ocellus, the Peacock
Specialty Dish: Fruity Skewers (Chicken-Mushroom Skewers)
Normal Attack: Ceremonial Bladework
Elemental Skill: Frostgnaw
Elemental Burst: Glacial Waltz
Utility Passive: Hidden Strength (20% reduced stamina consumption while sprinting)
Affiliation: Knights of Favonius

Jean's right-hand man and Cavalry Captain of the Knights of Favonius. An accomplished swordsman renowned for his intelligence, Kaeya is also well-known for his laid-back nature and affinity for mischievously needling people.

True to his crafty nature, Kaeya specializes in swiftly dispatching his opponents. His Elemental Skill, Frostgnaw, is a simple but rapid thrust that generates a blast of cold wind, while his Elemental Burst, Glacial Waltz, summons three icicles that damage enemies around the active character.

When Kaeya has to get serious, Frostgnaw gains the ability to restore some of his HP depending on the number of enemies hit, in addition to generating Elemental Particles for every Frozen enemy. Once Kaeya stops being half-hearted about his duties, he enjoys a boost to his Critical Rate against enemies with a Cryo effect, as well as automatically generates a Cryo-elemental shield whenever his HP falls dangerously low; and Glacial Waltz gains a fourth icicle, as well as the ability to regenerate Energy when cast and increase in duration whenever enemies are defeated while it is active.

Kaeya is automatically unlocked upon completing the "Deep Within the Temple of the Wolf" Domain during Prologue Act I. His constellation upgrades can only be acquired by either wishing for him in the Wanderlust Invocation, or by purchasing him from Paimon's Bargains when available.
  • The Ace: His official profile states that Kaeya can solve any problems and everyone in Mondstadt loves him.
  • Adaptation Deviation: While both the Japanese and Korean dub stick to the original Chinese interpretation of Diluc and Kaeya as Sworn Brothers, the English localisation changes that to a more westerner friendly adopted brothers.
  • All There in the Manual: The incident that drove him and his sworn brother Diluc apart receives elaboration late into their character stories, as well as in the official manga.
  • Ambiguously Bi: He flirts with women and men alike, primarily the Traveler. In the prequel web comic, he also seemingly had something going on with a male servant. He also calls Albedo attractive in his original line about the latter.
  • Ambiguously Brown: His skin is darker than his compatriots, and his character profile refers to him having an "exotic" appearance. His character stories reveal he is from Khaenri'ah, which doesn't really mean much considering that several characters hailing from there introduced since launch have all been light skinned.
  • Anti-Hero: A Guile Hero who does what he does to keep Mondstadt safe, including manipulating his allies. He lampshades this in the official manga, calling himself and Diluc "anti-heroes with attitude problems."
  • Ascended Meme: Players who bench Kaeya often bring him in to use Frostgnaw to cross large bodies of water instead of swimming or using the intended travel method. During the "Midsummer Island Adventure" event, Kaeya had been traveling around with Diluc using exactly that method.
  • Authority Equals Asskicking: He is one of the captains of the knights and considered on par with Diluc and Jean in a fight.
  • Awful Truth: For a long time, Kaeya kept the secret of his mission as a Double Agent sent from Khaenri'ah, but since he was consumed by grief after his foster (and Diluc's biological) father Crepus died, he revealed the truth to Diluc. This angered the latter as expected, and so the two of them clashed swords. It was at this moment when Kaeya received his own Vision.
  • Blood Knight: His character stories mention that he enjoys seeing the hesitation in the eyes of his comrades before jumping into battle just as much as he delights in the terror of his enemies as they face off against him.
  • Blue Is Heroic: Has a blue outfit with matching hair and is the first Cryo user on the Traveler's team.
  • Boring, but Practical:
    • Kaeya's talents are simple and straightforward, focusing on dealing rapid Cryo damage. While other Cryo characters with more varied skillsets outclass him, he is still useful for quick combos and generate Cryo energy.
    • Kaeya can reliably create frozen surfaces to traverse large bodies of water, owing to Frostgnaw's short cooldown and its unusually long freeze duration on bodies of water. With the exception of Ganyu and Ayaka (both of whom, being 5★ units, are harder to obtain in comparison), the other Cryo characters aren't as adept at creating "ice bridges" due to them having long cooldown times, shorter durations of frozen surfaces, or both.
  • The Captain: Kaeya is the Cavalry Captain, and one of ten Captains, in the Knights of Favonius. However, with Varka's expedition taking all the cavalry in Mondstadt away, there is not much else for him to do.
  • Cleavage Window: A rare male example. His outfit has a large cutout on the front that exposes part of his chest and while in formal wear in the webcomic, Kaeya also leaves his shirt unbuttoned the create this effect. However, images of him in the past suggest he used to dress more conservatively.
  • Combat Pragmatist: According to his second character story, Kaeya once triggered a Ruin Guard to cut his opponent off, an act that even Jean disapproved of.
  • Conflicting Loyalty: Kaeya was stuck in a sort of existential crisis when he was torn on thinking about which side to support just in case Khaenri'ah and Mondstadt went to war, torn between his biological father who abandoned him for the sake of duty and loyalty, and Crepus, who cared for him like a true son. When the latter died, Kaeya chose to come clean to Diluc and stay in Mondstadt.
  • Connected All Along: The Caribert Archon Quest reveals that he is a distant relative of the original founder of the Abyss Order.
  • Critical Hit Class: While his Ascension stat is neither Critical Rate nor Damage, instead being Energy Recharge, his first Constellation upgrade, Excellent Blood, increases the Critical Rate of his normal and charged attacks by 15% against Cryo-affected enemies. Combined with weapons or artifacts prioritizing that stat, a full Blizzard Strayer set, and/or Cryo Resonance, he has the potential to be a decent damage-dealer so long as Cryo is constantly applied, which is made easier to achieve with both his fast-charging Elemental Talents.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: His foster father Crepus died in an ambush set up by the Fatui on the eighteenth birthday of his biological son (and Kaeya's sworn brother) Diluc. Kaeya not only arrived too late to protect his father but was shocked that Crepus would be desperate enough to use a Delusion. Not only that, it made him feel torn between choosing to support Mondstadt or Khaenri'ah. Feeling that his foster father had shown him the love he did not get from his biological father, Kaeya chose to come clean to Diluc about what he truly is, and they clashed with each other because of it. Ever since then, he and Diluc had not been on good terms.
  • Dance Battler: His Elemental Burst is called Glacial Waltz, and his fighting style invokes swift movements, not unlike a dance.
  • Defense Mechanism Superpower: His fourth Constellation upgrade, Frozen Kiss, automatically casts a twenty-second-long shield whenever his HP falls below 20% (within at least one-minute intervals), which absorbs damage equal to 30% of his Max HP and enjoys a 250% efficiency against Cryo damage.
  • Double Agent: Kaeya is actually an agent of Khaenri'ah placed in Mondstadt to "serve their interests." His biological father abandoned him for the sake of fulfilling his mission and was adopted by Crepus Ragnvindr.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: He has pupils shaped like four-pointed stars, unlike the other characters' standard circular ones which hints at him being from the cursed nation of Khaenri’ah.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Thrill Seeker and anti-heroic he can sometimes be, in the webcomic, despite attacking a young Collei, he was shocked and disturbed to see her stop fighting and inviting him to kill her.
  • Eye Scream: Downplayed. While Kaeya likes to mess with people and never tells the truth of why he wears an eyepatch, his namecard strongly implies that he is not actually missing an eye. Then the letters in "Hidden Strife" event reveal that he got his eye scarred during his fight with Diluc, but not to the point of blindness. While Kaeya was already wearing the eyepatch for his own reasons, since that fight it also served to cover up the scar.
  • Eyepatch of Power: He wears a black eyepatch on his right eye. His first Story Quest has him claim that he inherited it from his pirate grandfather. Him secretly being from Khaenri'ah and Dainsleif's design hints it may also be hiding a monstrous mutation from the curse that all of Khaenri'ah continues to suffer under.
  • False Cause: In Kaeya's third character story, a young knight notices how the bandit threats and reported incidents in Mondstadt have a drastic decline only when the "Death After Noon" wine is out of season. What the young knight does not realize is that Kaeya fights such threats in the city, but he is more active in his job when his favorite wine is out of season.
  • Feet-First Introduction: How the game introduces him to the players after they take down Dvalin for the first time. His full-body portrait (above) also places great emphasis on his feet.
  • Field Power Effect: In Genius Invokation TCG, his Burst creates an aura that deals damage every time you switch characters.
  • Fighter, Mage, Thief: Among the three starting characters, Kaeya is the Fighter. He is the swordsman that has the best sprint stamina whose Elemental Burst surrounds him with an Orbiting Particle Shield, prioritizing getting into the thick of battle.
  • Flash Step: The final hit of his normal attack string has him blink behind his target before striking. With good timing, he can use it to dodge incoming attacks or quickly jump onto a new target after defeating his current one.
  • The Gadfly: He tends to say obvious lies just for laughs, and enjoys messing with people in general. For example, in his first Story Quest he claims that he is the descendant of a pirate and that his eyepatch was (somehow) inherited from him just like how hairstyles are passed down, all with a straight face.
  • Getting Crap Past the Radar: His claims to use his superior "linguistic skills" to extract information from Fatui agents he's been cozying up to just barely qualifies as a double entendre, given his flirtatious nature and the highly suggestive delivery of the voice line.
  • Guile Hero: Kaeya is very good at social interactions and can predict people's reactions, making it easy for him to smooth-talk and charm his way into swaying allies and enemies alike into situations that benefit him. His Story Quest is a Treasure Hunt Episode which turns out to be a wild-goose chase meant to draw out Treasure Hoarders, which so happen to involve lying to the Traveler about the existence of a legendary sword, knowing they will go after it. The webcomic also has him dealing with the Fatui in an indirect manner by using Diluc as a scapegoat to prevent them from discrediting the Knights.
  • Happily Adopted: By the Ragnvindr Family, where he became extremely close to their (biological) heir, Diluc. While their relationship soured after the death of their father Crepus, the rest of the household still consider Kaeya one of their own.
  • Hidden in Plain Sight: At the end of Diluc's Story Quest, Kaeya was in Angel's Share the whole time when Diluc created a perfect alibi "proving" that he is not the Darknight Hero. It is just that Diluc did not notice him at all, not realizing that Kaeya watched all his actions.
  • Informed Attribute: Despite nominally leading the Knights' cavalry division, he's never once shown actually riding a horse. On top of that, his weapon of choice is a sword, contrary to the polearm a mounted fighter would be expected to use.
  • Life Drain: His first-ascension passive, Cold-Blooded Strike, heals him based on 15% of his Attack stat whenever Frostgnaw hits enemies. In Genius Invokation TCG, his talent also causes his Elemental Skill to heal him for 2 HP every time it is used.
  • Mole in Charge: Downplayed. With Varka and several other Captains away, Kaeya is currently the acting second-in-command. He's also a sleeper agent for Khaenri’ah, a source of deep personal conflict and the reason for his falling out with his adopted brother, Diluc.
  • Mr. Fanservice: Of the initial playable roster, Kaeya is the game's first fanservice-friendly male character — Tall, Dark, and Handsome, has a Cleavage Window that shows off his abs, wears some quite tight pants, and is The Tease.
  • Mundane Utility: His Frostgnaw skill can be used to travel the bodies of water due to its short cooldown and unusually long freeze duration against water.
  • Mysterious Past: His official profile hints that there is something more to this man aside from his talents. His character stories are even more vague, although they hint that he came from another region, Khaenri'ah.
"Everyone in Mondstadt loves Kaeya, but no one knows what secrets this witty, charming knight has..."
  • The One Guy: At the time of the game's release, Kaeya was the sole male playable character from the Knights of Favonius (until Mika changed that in 3.5), as well as the first male playable character (besides the male Traveler).
  • Orbiting Particle Shield: Played with, in that while it isn't defensive in nature, Glacial Waltz lets Kaeya summon three icicles that orbit around the active character, dealing Cryo damage to nearby enemies. His second Constellation upgrade, Never-Ending Performance, adds 2.5 seconds to its duration for every enemy defeated while it is active (to a maximum of fifteen seconds, or at least six enemies), and his sixth, Glacial Whirlwind, adds a fourth icicle, as well as immediately recharges 15 Energy upon casting.
  • Out-Gambitted: Kaeya believes Diluc is the Darknight Hero and sends a knight to keep an eye on him at Angel's Share just before the Abyss Order's planned attack on Mondstadt to go after the vigilante. To keep his identity secret, Diluc creates a diversion and has his staff pose as patrons to create an alibi. However, Kaeya planned for this and reveals he snuck into the bar and saw everything, but decides to keep the secret after seeing his brother finally accept help from someone.
  • Painted-On Pants: Kaeya proves that not only women can rock the look. His introduction cutscene has a pan around his pants to show them off.
  • Parental Substitute: Despite his tendency to mess with Klee, he is like a father to her, having written a list of rules that Klee must follow to stay out of trouble and to prevent her from hurting people.
  • Power Stereotype Flip: Despite wielding a Cryo Vision, he's quite active, sociable and a bit shady in a fun way.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The playful, laid-back Red to Diluc's stoic, serious Blue.
  • "Rediscovering Roots" Trip: Kaeya relates to the Traveler that he attempted one of these as a child, shortly after his adoption. When he heard that merchants would be headed to Sumeru, he decided to stow away in hopes of searching the foreign country for anything related to Khaenri'ah. Crepus quickly sent word that his foster son was missing, and came to take him home before he could get very far.
  • Regenerating Mana: His fourth-ascension passive, Glacial Heart, generates up to a pair of Elemental Particles whenever enemies are frozen by Frostgnaw.
  • Secret-Keeper: Decides to keep Diluc's identity as the vigilante "Darknight Hero" from the Knights, content that the lone wolf now is willing to accept an assistant in the Traveler.
  • Secret Secret-Keeper: The webcomic implies Kaeya has been well aware of Diluc's exploits as a vigilante for the past few years, but simply never told anyone about it.
  • Ship Tease: Invokes this with the Traveler due to his flirtatious tendencies and asking them out on dates.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: Of a sort, with his sworn brother Diluc. Kaeya has a Cryo vision, a blue-and-white color scheme, and tanned skin; Diluc has a Pyro vision, a red-and-black color scheme, and light skin. Their drink preferences are also different; Kaeya is fond of wine (specifically Death After Noon), while Diluc prefers grape juice. Unsurprisingly, they do not like each other’s drink choices.
  • Situational Damage Attack: His first Constellation upgrade, Excellent Blood, increases the Critical rate of his normal and charged attacks by 15% against enemies affected with Cryo.
  • Scars Are Forever: The letters in the "Hidden Strife" event reveal that he got his eye scarred during a fight with Diluc, and in the present his eyepatch helps to cover it up.
  • Starter Mon: He permanently joins the party in the Prologue chapters as one of the first three units the player gets. In Genius Invocation TCG, he is also among the first three character cards the player receives, along with Diluc and Sucrose.
  • Stepford Smiler: Kaeya is a charming social expert who hardly shies away from any conversation, and is ever-present with a confident smile. Other characters, however, question how much of his jovial disposition is sincere. During the "Of Ballads and Brews" event, Razor even calls him a "grown-up with a fake smile".
  • Strong as They Need to Be: His manga version has him display a varied set of powerful and versatile abilities from his Cryo Vision; like being able to create a wall of ice that can deflect Collei's flames, ice swords to wield, and even an ice roof above him used as a shield to defend against the magical chains of Diluc's Delusion. He doesn't display such abilities in-game.
  • Tall, Dark, and Handsome: Kaeya is tall, dark-skinned, and very charming.
  • The Social Expert: He's a smooth and skilled talker, capable of defusing tough situations with his choice of words. In the webcomic, he can also deduce that Collei was the one behind the "black fire incident" through his words and watching her reactions. This occasionally leads him to apologize for "prying too much." His character story section also has this line of dialogue...
"Everyone's got a secret, but not everyone knows what to do with it."
  • The Tease: Kaeya seems to be romantically interested in the Traveler, and outside of serious moments, his dialogue consists of flirtations and asking them out on dates. Dialogue options allow you to tease him back, though not as much as he does.
  • Thrill Seeker: While his Combat Pragmatist tendencies tend to land everyone involved into a tight situation, he takes joy in seeing the panic and terror in the eyes of both his allies and enemies.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Downplayed. Kaeya is firmly on the side of justice, but believes the ends justify the means and is known to employ questionable tactics that are frowned upon by Jean. In the past, he's set off a Ruin Guard to cut off a bandit despite knowing it could harm his fellow Knights and enjoys the looks of fear on both the faces of his enemies and allies during battle. Paimon even states he comes across as a shady guy.
  • Token Good Teammate: On the flip side, he's so far one of the few Khaenri'ahns to actually be one of the good guys (besides Albedo and Dainsleif), considering that the majority of the nation's citizens were transformed into either hilichurls or members of the Abyss Order, and that Pierro, a fellow Khaenri'ahn, would later go on to found the Fatui.
  • Treasure Hunt Episode: His Story Quest has him claim that his grandfather was a pirate who hid a powerful sword through a series of puzzles and requests the Traveler and Paimon to help him find it. After a series of puzzles and running around the Mondstadt area, it turns out Kaeya fabricated the entire thing to lure out some Treasure Hoarders.
  • Troll: He regularly screws with Klee, either by stealing her stuffed animals or by tricking her into attacking the other Knights so Jean throws her into solitary, as he does in her banner PV.
  • Upgrade Artifact: A variant—his third and fifth Constellation upgrades, Dance of Frost and Frostbiting Embrace, increase the talent levels of, respectively, Frostgnaw and Glacial Waltz by three.
  • Villainous Legacy: His heritage and the legacy associated with it have long been a source of conflict for Kaeya, though he claims to have little interest in the past. When Dainsleif reveals that his ancestor founded the Abyss Order, Kaeya is quick to deny having any ties to that organization. He flippantly rejects the idea that his heritage has anything to do with him, though Mona's voiceline about him warns that the legacy of his past will catch up to him eventually.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Kaeya attacks Collei after she murders two Snezhnayan diplomats in the Black Fire Incident on behalf of the Fatui. However, he is rather disturbed when the young girl abruptly stops fighting and invites him kill her.
  • "X" Marks the Spot: His story quest is a Treasure Hunt Episode that involves finding treasures using photographic clues, such as a picture of a windmill, or a map with a red "X" mark on it.

"No matter what kind of environment you may find yourself in, with thorough reconnaissance, you should be able to establish a safe route."

Rarity: 4★
Birthday: August 11
Element: Cryo
Weapon: Polearm
Model: Medium Male
Constellation: Palumbus, the Wood Pigeon
Specialty Dish: Surveyor's Breakfast Sandwich (Adventurer's Breakfast Sandwich)
Normal Attack: Spear of Favonius - Arrow's Passage
Elemental Skill: Starfrost Swirl
Elemental Burst: Skyfeather Song
Utility Passive: Demarcation (displays location of Mondstadt-exclusive resources on the minimap)
Affiliation: Knights of Favonius

A surveyor from the Reconnaissance Company and younger brother of Huffman. A skilled cartographer and reliable teammate who is nevertheless gets nervous easily, preferring to attract as less attention as possible from his colleagues.

When not busy detailing the map of Teyvat, Mika combines spear and crossbow in battle, with the ability to switch between the two as well as support his allies from the rear. His Elemental Skill, Starfrost Swirl, has him fire a Cryo-infused arrow—"Flowfrost Arrow" in tapped mode, which hits all enemies in its trajectory, or "Rimestar Flare" in held mode, which upon contact flies in midair and rains down "Rimestar Shards" that hit up to three nearby opponents—and at the same time confer upon the party the "Soulwind" effect, which temporarily increases their attacking speed. His Elemental Burst, Skyfeather Song, heals the entire party and bestows upon them an "Eagleplume" that heals the active character whenever they hit enemies.

As Mika continues to develop his cartography skills, the Soulwind state gains the ability to confer stacks of the "Detector" effect, of which up to three can be held at once, that increases the active character's damage output whenever either form of Starfrost Swirl hits more than one enemy, as well as whenever they land critical hits while the Eagleplume is also active. Once Mika has overcome his fears and completes his roadmap to victory, the Soulwind state gains the ability to accelerate the healing bursts of the Eagleplume, either form of Starfrost Swirl can now automatically confer stacks of Detector, the Eagleplume gains the ability to restore Mika's Energy whenever it heals allies, and he can now hold a fourth stack of Detector as well as bestow upon the Soulwind state a boost to Critical Damage.

Mika can be obtained from any banner.
  • The Ace: Takes his job as a member of the Reconnaissance Company very seriously and is praised by others for his diligence and efficiency in performing each task that gets assigned to him.
  • Animal Motifs: The wood pigeon, as evidenced by the name of his Constellation, his outfit design, and Vision powers. The tuff of hair on top of his head also resembles a feather.
  • Army Scout: As land surveyor for the Knights of Favonius, he is in charge of scouting and mapping out uncharted areas.
  • Bows and Errors: One of his idle animations has him drawing his crossbow string as hard as possible and loosing it, all without a bolt loaded. It would damage the crossbow in real life.
  • Bow and Sword in Accord: Mika is a polearm user who also uses a crossbow for his Elemental Skill and the fourth strike of his normal attack combo.
  • Can't Hold His Liquor: Just a single sip of alcohol is enough to knock him out, to the point that even its smell will render him dizzy. Justified, as he isn't old enough to drink yet.
  • Child Soldier: He is relatively young and is a surveyor for the Knights of Favonius.
  • Gathering Steam: Mika's first-ascension passive, Suppressive Barrage, allows the Soulwind state to gather up to three charges of Detector, which increase the active character's Physical Damage by 10% apiece (for a maximum of 30%) whenever either form of Starfrost Swirl hits more than one enemy—that is, whenever Flowfrost Arrow hits at least two enemies or the Rimestar Flares hit at least one. Three of his other upgrades are also designed around stack gathering: his fourth-ascension passive, Topographical Mapping, builds one stack whenever the active character lands a critical hit while Soulwind and the Eagleplume are simultaneously active; his second Constellation upgrade, Companion's Ingress, guarantees Mika one stack whenever either form of Starfrost Swirl hits at least one enemy; and his sixth, Companion's Counsel, allows him to gather a fourth stack (hence increasing the potential boost to 40%) as well as give the Soulwind state a 60% boost to Critical Damage.
  • Healing Factor: Skyfeather Song is an instant-heal Burst that additionally confers upon the active character an Eagleplume that restores their HP whenever they hit enemies, with its potency based on a fraction of Mika's Max HP.
  • Idiot Hair: Mika has a tuft of hair curling upward in the usual ahoge. It is not the most noticeable one, so it mostly undercuts his attempts to be presentable and makes him look inexperienced next to the seasoned members of the Knights.
  • Mature Younger Sibling: According to Lisa's "About Mika" voice line, he takes care of things around the house and looks after his older brother Huffman when he's drunk.
  • Nerdy Nasalness: He's passionate about his job as a cartographer, and his English voice actor Robb Moreira gives him this kind of voice to match his enthusiasm, as well as to emphasize his youthfulness.
  • Nervous Wreck: He has a difficult time reading Varka's letter to the Knights. Then he acts completely flustered when he first meets the Traveler, telling them to excuse him while he reports to Eula.
  • Nice Guy: While shy, Mika is also a pretty warm person once one gets to know him, expressing admiration for both the Traveler and Paimon after hearing of their feats.
  • Real Men Eat Meat: He tells the player in his "Favorite Food" line that Varka has tried to instill this mindset in him so that he can grow strong, and he admits that he enjoys meat dishes.
  • Regenerating Mana: Mika's fourth Constellation upgrade, Sunfrost Encomium, allows 3 Energy to Mika whenever the Eagleplume heals the active character, up to five times per Eagleplume duration (to a maximum of 15 Energy).
  • Remember the New Guy?: He was never mentioned before v3.1, yet he was well known within the Knights before his appearance in the Weinlefest event, which Paimon lampshades before he reads Varka's letter.
  • Shrinking Violet: A male example. Similarly to Sucrose, he's an incredibly shy person, obviously uncomfortable when talking to Kaeya and the Traveler when he sees them. He starts to grow out of it in his playable voice-overs, though.
  • Sliding Scale of Gameplay and Story Integration: Mika's field passive, which allows players to detect regional specialties from Mondstadt in the mini-map, befits his position as chief surveyor of the Reconnaisance Company. In addition, his ability to gather stacks of Detector, which increase Physical Damage, makes him an excellent support for physical-oriented fighters like his superior Eula.
  • Sprint Shoes: By default, the Soulwind state triggered by Starfrost Swirl increases the party's attacking speed. Mika's first Constellation upgrade, Factor Confluence, gives the state the ability to reduce the interval between healing bursts provided by the Eagleplume based on the percentage of the speed boost.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Inverted. Mika looks nothing like Huffman, his brown-haired, brown-eyed older brother, making it difficult to tell their relationship to each other without reading the story. The fact that Mika has a unique character design while Huffman uses a generic Mondstadt non-playable character model doesn't help.
  • Support Party Member: His main gameplay role is to supply energy, boost attack speed and Physical damage of the on-field attacker, and heal the party.
  • Translator Buddy: Much like Oz is to Fischl's "way" of speaking, he acts as a translator for Eula's choice of speech (that is, taking vengeance on anyone).
  • Upgrade Artifact: A variant—his third and fifth Constellation upgrades, Reconnaissance Experience and Signal Arrow, increase the talent levels of, respectively, Skyfeather Song and Starfrost Swirl by three.

    Rosaria

Rosaria

Voiced by: Zhang Angqi (Chinese), Ai Kakuma (Japanese), Kim Bo-na (Korean), Elizabeth Maxwell (English)
Introduced: April 6, 2021 (v1.4 "Invitation of Windblume" [second half])

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/genshin_impact_rosaria.png
Thorny Benevolence
"Pray. Not for the gods, nor the betterment of others... but for yourself."

Rarity: 4★
Birthday: January 24
Element: Cryo
Weapon: Polearm
Model: Tall Female
Constellation: Spinea Corona, the Crown of Thorns
Specialty Dish: Dinner Of Judgement (Sweet Madame)
Normal Attack: Spear of the Church
Elemental Skill: Ravaging Confession
Elemental Burst: Rites of Termination
Field Skill: Night Walk (10% boost to the party's Movement Speed during nighttime [18:00–06:00])
Affiliation: Church of Favonius

Rosaria is a nun with a rather unorthodox idea of piety. Cynical, blunt, and haunted by a bloodstained past of having been kidnapped by bandits as a child and eventually rising up its ranks until she was adopted by the Church, she takes it upon herself to covertly act as a purveyor of justice on its behalf while investigating potential threats to Mondstadt and swiftly eliminating them if necessary.

In a subversion of the piety expected of Favonius clergy, Rosaria chooses to mete out merciless punishment on her enemies from the shadows. Her Elemental Skill, Ravaging Confession, sees her sneak behind an enemy and follow it up with a stab-and-slash combo, while her Elemental Burst, Rites of Termination, has her swipe her spear around and hurl an "Ice Lance" into the ground that periodically blows gusts of cold wind on surrounding enemies.

As Rosaria further sharpens her killer instincts, she gains the ability to temporarily boost Critical Rate, either for herself whenever she successfully lands a backstab with Ravaging Confession, or for her allies whenever she triggers Rites of Termination. Once Rosaria transcends her bloody past and learns to put her skills to better use, she gains the ability to bestow upon herself a temporary boost to the potency and speed of her normal attacks, as well as restore some energy, whenever she lands critical hits; the Ice Lance increases in duration; and Rites of Termination gains the ability to inflict a Physical Resistance penalty on enemies struck.

Rosaria can be obtained from any banner.
  • Accidental Misnaming: Despite being a clergywoman, she can't be bothered to properly remember how to pronounce "Barbatos" and tends to mangle it whenever she tries to use it.
  • The Alcoholic: Subverted. She enjoys wine, but says explicitly that she never gets drunk. Her Serenitea Pot chat clarifies that she does not allow herself to get drunk. Whenever she is on the verge of getting too tipsy to continue working, she holds herself back.
  • Almighty Janitor: Rosaria occupies barely prominent positions within the Church of Favonius due to her sloth, which leads her to skip most of her daily duties, her inability to comply with the rules, and especially her lack of faith towards Barbatos; however, she is also by far their most fearsome clergywoman thanks to her past as a bandit that has turned her into a dangerous assassin and spy, to say nothing of holding a Cryo Vision.
  • Anti-Hero: In theory, she is part of Mondstadt's defense against external threats. In practice, she's not exactly very nice about it, and she's not above dirtying her hands.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: During the Weinelesefest event, she asks Razor as to what he intends to do should he discover his birth parents and judge whether or not they're good, which is something Razor struggles to answer. While Rosaria meant well, she also points out that most Mondstadtians are always brimming with optimism, leaving them unable to state the hard facts.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: Non-romantic example as part of the "Of Drink A-Dreaming" event. After the Traveler whips up a cup of tea for Rosaria, she claims that it reminds her of Barbara's attempts to socialize with her. She doesn't seem to be bitter about this and enjoys the tea. Lampshaded by Paimon, who comments that Rosaria is "in rare form" today.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: The description of her character namecard implies that she works as hard as she does to repay the citizens of Mondstadt for their kindness towards her.
  • Big Sister Instinct: She reveals to Razor that she feels this towards him as she considers both of them as adopted children of Varka during the "Of Ballads and Brews" event, while urging him to steel himself for the risks that come with the search for his biological parents.
  • Boobs-and-Butt Pose: Her official art has her in this pose, as shown by the above image.
  • Breaking Old Trends: Rosaria is the first playable character whose Wish artwork has a matching pose to her Character Introduction artwork, something that every character after her release (with the exception of Scaramouche/Wanderer) followed suit ever since.
  • Brutal Honesty: She bluntly tells Barbara she does not care about religious observances and that she is wasting her time trying to drag her to one and tells off the Traveler for trusting Albedo so easily.
Kaeya: (about Rosaria) She's honest with herself. She casts off that which she has no time for, and she does not feign motivation for affairs that do not interest her.
  • Catchphrase: At least in the English dub, in some of her voice-overs she seems fond of saying "What a nuisance".
  • Church Militant: Rosaria embodies this trope, voluntarily taking on work deemed too dirty for the Church of Favonius to handle, such as threatening extermination. Downplayed since no other member of the Church is shown to engage in such vigilantism yet.
  • Commonality Connection: The "Of Drink A-Dreaming" event reveals that she and Kaeya are drinking buddies. They are both Cryo Vision holders and are cynics with a Dark and Troubled Past who don't play by the rules and play as hard as they work, although Kaeya is significantly more casual and flirtatious.
  • Critical Hit Class: Rosaria's first- and fourth-ascension passives both increase Critical Rate. The former, Regina Probationum, gives her a 12% boost for five seconds whenever she successfully hits an enemy from behind with Ravaging Confession; the latter, Shadow Samaritan, increases those of her allies for ten seconds based on 15% of her own (to a maximum of 15%) whenever she triggers Rites of Termination.
  • Cuteness Proximity: While she understandably views Klee as trouble, she can't help but admit that she's "the cute kind of trouble".
  • Damage-Increasing Debuff: Her sixth Constellation upgrade, Divine Retribution, gives Rites of Termination the ability to impose a ten-second-long 20% Physical Resistance penalty on enemies struck.
  • Damage Over Time: Rites of Termination summons an Ice Lance that damages surrounding enemies four times for eight seconds (at a rate of one burst every two seconds). Her second Constellation upgrade, Land Without Promise, extends its duration to twelve seconds, equivalent to six bursts.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: As a child, her parents were killed and she was kidnapped into slavery by bandits, then somehow joined that group after killing its leader (and at the same time received her Vision). She was spared when the Knights of Favonius took down the gang and have her sent to a convent despite her obvious lack of faith in Barbatos, during which she found her current job of being Mondstadt's protector in the shadows a suitable vocation.
  • Death by Origin Story: Rosaria's parents were killed shortly after her birth by a band of bandits who massacred her village, who then took her and raised her as their slave. She later became an official bandit herself after killing their oldest member who had served as her foster father in her life (despite still enslaving her) in fair combat and getting a Cryo Vision as a reward.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: And not just because of her Cryo Vision or because she first appeared in the Dragonspine update — Rosaria is icy and is not afraid to speak her mind. However, she seems to have a (non-romantic) soft spot for the Traveler, which is reinforced when the "Of Drink A-Dreaming" event demonstrates that the Traveler has the ability to put her in a good mood to backup Kaeya's comments that a good bartender lifts their patrons' spirits.
  • Distaff Counterpart: A red-haired vigilante who works a second job during the day to cover their status as one, as well as having issues with their daytime job along with the people that work there, much like Diluc.
  • Does Not Like Spam: Rosaria describes eating hash browns with jam as "sacrilege", which is amusing not only because it is unusual of her to be that picky, but also because hash browns paired with jam are a Mondstadt staple.
  • Elemental Personalities: A Cryo Vision wielder who, no pun intended, is an Ice Queen (albeit one that's so far defrosted a little bit towards the Traveler).
  • Exhausted Eye Bags: Very much visible on her in-game model, reflecting her position as someone who works day and night.
  • Fanservice Pack: Inverted. In Rosaria's first appearance in v1.2, she could compete with Signora for the title of bustiest character. When she became a playable character, her breasts shrunk to a size comparable to other characters that use the Tall Female model as Lisa and Ningguang. She was also one of the four female characters who gained a more modest outfit (or an optional outfit for global servers) to comply with Chinese censorship laws.
  • Femme Fatalons: She has sharpened metal claws over her gloves to better illustrate her identity as the enforcer of the Church of Favonius, rather than being a healer like Barbara.
  • Flash Step: Ravaging Confession begins with a feint move that has her quickly get behind her target and literally backstab them. Note that Rosaria is unable to move around larger enemies such as Lawachurls and Ruin Guards with this skill.
  • Foil: To Barbara. While Barbara is warm, kind, caring, and has a difficult time telling the truth, Rosaria is cold, aloof, abrasive, and is not afraid to speak her mind. Likewise, Barbara is a support healer, while Rosaria is a frontline fighter. Lastly, while Barbara has a Hydro Vision, Rosaria has a Cryo.
  • Good Is Not Nice: Puts Mondstadt's interests at the front and center of her work and is even willing to share a word of advice to the Traveler, but is otherwise quite caustic.
  • Hartman Hips: Actually, her hips aren't any more pronounced than any other character with the Tall Female model, but the splits in her skirt and fishnet stockings call attention to it in a way which the others outfits don't.
  • Hiding Behind Your Bangs: Her hair covers her left eye, and she has a habit of staying out of church despite her job as a nun.
  • Informed Attribute: According to the character stories, Rosaria is an avid smoker, along with her other Nun Too Holy actions. However, she lacks any animations depicting her doing so.
  • Inspector Javert: In Albedo's Story Quest, Rosaria suspects him of being a potential danger and keeps watch on the Traveler as they are collaborating with him. While she lets them go in the end, unbeknownst to both of them, Albedo is indeed a potential danger, albeit through no fault of his own.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: In Albedo's Story Quest, she calls out the Traveler for helping Albedo without knowing of his true intentions, and she suspects that he is hiding a secret that may endanger Mondstadt. Unbeknownst to the Traveler, she is right.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Rarely will Rosaria display a more pleasant side, mostly when it comes to those who show genuine compassion in protecting others. She will even offer advice to the Traveler as they grow closer, namely to never let go of their past self. It's shown in the "Of Drink A-Dreaming" event that she is significantly easier to get along with on a good day at the tavern. She just has little patience for how uptight the rest of Mondstadt is.
  • Knight in Sour Armor: Rosaria genuinely believes in Mondstadt's principles and desires to protect the city but has been jaded by her line of work to the point that she lacks faith in the gods.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Rosaria's skillset specializes in dealing large amounts of damage very quickly, and both her ascension passives and most of her Constellation upgrades increase her chance of dealing critical damage. Finally, both her HP and her Defense stats are high enough that she can take as much damage as she can dish out.
  • Meaningful Name: Roses are a symbol of the Virgin Mary in Christianity, in particular the Roman Catholic Church, hence rosaries, and Rosaria is a nun with a rose motif.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Her initial choice of clothing is very revealing, especially for a nun. She wears a very tight outfit that does not hide her bust size along with fishnets on her legs. Even her censored outfit is also skintight and as a result is not much better at hiding her buxom.
  • Nay-Theist: Rosaria is a sister, but she is more dedicated to Mondstadt itself than any deity and cannot even recall Barbatos' name at times.
  • Noiseless Walker: Being an active assassin of threats towards Mondstadt, Rosaria is trained in the art of moving quietly. During Act 3 of the 3.5 Windblume’s Breath event, Scarlett did not notice her presence following her until both of them were already on the floating island where the Hexenzirkel held their tea parties and Albedo points it out. Afterwards, after confirming that there was nothing that she needed to be concerned about, Rosaria was seen leaving without saying goodbye, and everyone else were too focused on the glowing lamp to notice.
  • Not a Morning Person: In her morning voice lines she is clearly exhausted, and part of the reason she skips morning choir practice is because getting her up at that time of day to do something she does not want to take part in at all is a hard sell. Justified, as she works at night.
  • Not So Above It All: Despite her attempts to always appear calm and collected, she often betrays a more absent-minded and scatterbrained side.
(About Hello) "Listen disciple, if you've got a problem you can't handle, then I'm the one for the job. But if you're looking for prayer, you'd better find some other Sister ...Huh? You're not a disciple?"
  • Nun Too Holy: Rosaria wears revealing clothing, has a vorpal tongue, can be too paranoid for her own good, and is a tad overzealous. She notes during the Windblume Festival she prefers spending time in local taverns to the Favonius Cathedral, and one of her voice lines has her forget how to pronounce "Barbatos," the very god she ostensibly serves. This is a consequence of her Dark and Troubled Past and choice of hobby. She has little faith in Barbatos and spends more time working at night fighting and drinking than she does her day job, and often smokes on the Cathedral grounds on the rare occasions that she does show up. The Church appears to only keeps her on its staff because almost no one else is ready and willing to do the work she does.
  • Part-Time Hero: By night, Rosaria is a ruthless and efficient vigilante hunting down Mondstadt's enemies from the shadows. By day, she returns to her "duties" as a nun of the Church of Favonius, spending the better part of her day resting in a quiet corner of the City or hitting up the bar. Her key principle, which is ironically the one thing she follows religiously, is no overtime.
(Chat: Overtime) "Everything is negotiable, except overtime."
  • The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything: Rosaria is a nun who does not worship any god. She only does the bare minimum of the work needed from her, and never onscreen. She does not see this as a big deal and cites other examples of the trope to justify herself.
(More About Rosaria: II) "What's weird about a sister without reverence for the gods? There are hunters who don't eat pork and fishermen who don't eat fish, aren't there? Just because you do something doesn't mean you love to do it. That's how every job goes."
  • Professional Killer: Highly implied to be this in regards to her taking on any kind of dirty business on her own shoulders, which puts her at a marked contrast to almost the entirety of the playable cast.
  • Properly Paranoid: Rosaria is suspicious of Albedo. While he is not malicious, he is rather heedless of the consequences of his research; thus, her fear that he may go overboard with his studies is not entirely unwarranted.
  • Ornamental Weapon: One of her idle animations has her brandish a short blade on her hand that she doesn't use.
  • Regenerating Mana: Her fourth Constellation upgrade, Painful Grace, regenerates 5 Energy whenever Ravaging Confession lands a critical hit.
  • Rei Ayanami Expy: She has short, wine-colored hair, magenta-pink eyes, and pale grey skin. Rosaria is also stoic and aloof (unless she is forced into Church events), preferring to distance herself from the citizens of Mondstadt if she can help it. This, of course, stems from her Dark and Troubled Past where keeping to herself was what kept her alive.
  • Sexy Backless Outfit: Her back completely is bare. While obvious in official art, in-game it is harder to notice due to her large veil and pale skin, only really noticeable when she runs or glides.
  • Silly Rabbit, Idealism Is for Kids!: In Albedo's first Story Quest, she asks why the Traveler would dare believe Albedo at face value and help with his experiments. The game also introduces her by scolding Barbara for thinking she cares about attending an event that the Church is holding.
  • Situational Damage Attack: Her first Constellation upgrade, Unholy Revelation, raises both her damage potency and attack speed by 10% for four seconds whenever she lands a critical hit.
  • Sliding Scale of Gameplay and Story Integration: Among her duties as Mondstadt's guardian from the shadows are hunting down such threats as the Fatui. Fittingly, she can collect Fatui Insignias for Character and Talent Ascension, in addition to a boss drop from Childe for the latter.
  • Smoking Is Cool: While it has never been shown directly, it is noted that she can often be found smoking outside and inside the Favonius Cathedral.
  • The Tragic Rose: In addition to her Dark and Troubled Past and her name, she is also closely associated with thorns, and her Elemental Burst features an enormous lance wreathed with roses.
  • Unperson: If the situation calls for it, Rosaria is the last person an individual may see before they disappear under "mysterious circumstances".
  • Upgrade Artifact: A variant—her third and fifth Constellation upgrades, The Wages of Sin and Last Rites, increase the talent levels of, respectively, Ravaging Confession and Rites of Termination by three.
  • Vigilante Woman: She's technically a nun, but she only performs the bare minimum of duties needed from her in that role. Her de facto occupation is protecting Mondstadt from the shadows, and for this reason the Church tolerates her behavior. That said, this was never an official part of her job description. She threatened to arrest Paimon and the Traveler for eavesdropping, and even kept a close eye on their activities with Albedo for any signs of a threat to the safety of Mondstadt. Fischl also inadvertently overhears Rosaria in the middle of her enforcement.
"May you be struck down in the name of Lord Bartabos[sic]!"

"Discipline is everything. Unbridled passion can have disastrous consequences. Trust me, I would know. Oh, no no no, not from personal experience, of course... haha... uh..."

Rarity: 4★
Birthday: September 7
Element: Cryo
Weapon: Claymore
Model: Medium Male
Constellation: Nubis Caesor, the Cloud Cleaver
Specialty Dish: Cold Noodles with Mountain Delicacies (Noodles with Mountain Delicacies)
Normal Attack: Demonbane
Elemental Skill: Spirit Blade: Chonghua's Layered Frost

Utility Passive: Gallant Journey (25% reduced time when sent on an Expedition in Liyue)
Affiliation: Tianheng Thaumaturges

Heir to a famed clan of thaumaturges, Chongyun has the interesting dilemma of being too susceptible to Yang energy. While this overabundance easily vanquishes evil spirits and demons, he is also prone to intense mood swings—entering a manic, unhinged state if he gets too heated, and having no memory of these incidents afterwards. Therefore, he takes various precautions to keep himself from overheating, including abstaining from spicy foods and staying out of the sun.

As a trained exorcist, Chongyun excels at fighting in the heat of the battle, making use of agile, hard-hitting attacks and providing support alongside short bursts of damage. His Elemental Skill, Spirit Blade: Chonghua's Layered Frost, is a downward slash that deals Cryo damage on impact and creates a "Chonghua Frost Field" which imbues the party's melee attacks with Cryo; his Elemental Burst, Spirit Blade: Cloud-Parting Star, has him call down three eponymous "Spirit Blades" made of pure ice that slam down on a group of enemies.

As Chongyun continues to learn to put his Yang overload to good use, the Chonghua Frost Field gains the ability to confer a speed boost to the normal attacks of melee (i.e., sword, claymore, or polearm) fighters in the party, as well as conjure a Spirit Blade at the end of its duration that simultaneously deals Cryo damage and imposes a temporary Cryo Resistance penalty. Should he be able to completely tame his Yang energy, Chongyun gains the ability to fire three icy blades at the end of his normal attack combo, as well as restore some Energy whenever he hits enemies with a Cryo effect; the Chonghua Frost Field gains the ability to reduce the cooldown time of Elemental Talents cast within its area-of-effect; and Spirit Blade: Cloud-Parting Star increases in damage against enemies whose HP percentages are lower than that of Chongyun, as well as gains the ability to summon a fourth Spirit Blade.
Chongyun can be obtained from any banner.
  • Alternate Identity Amnesia: Chongyun can't remember what he does in his Yang state, which bothers him.
  • Always a Bigger Fish: Discussed. Part of his desire to exorcise demons without the use of his Yang energy is out of concern that one day he will meet a demon undeterred by his Yang energy; lest he get caught flat-footed, he opts to expand his combat repertoire.
  • Ambiguous Situation:
    • Xiangling believes Chongyun's "heated state" is his true self when his self-imposed barriers are down. Chongyun believes it is a curse. Which one is true, if either, is unknown.
    • His character story also puts a mystery on why exactly he got a Vision: either because he wants to become the greatest exorcist in Liyue, or to control his Yang energy, or to rid the world of evil spirits.
  • Animal Eyes: He has slitted pupils like a cat.
  • Area of Effect: Spirit Blade: Chonghua's Layered Frost is a downward slash that creates a Chonghua Frost Field, wherein for the next ten seconds the party's melee (i.e., sword, claymore, or polearm) attacks become imbued with a Cryo effect. Chongyun's first-ascension passive, Steady Breathing, adds an 8% boost to their attacking speed, giving him good synergy with most characters, in particular Pyro and Hydro Vision holders.note
  • Berserk Button: As he works hard towards honing his skills and is immensely proud of his role as an exorcist, he despises being looked down upon and underestimated. That being said, when Hu Tao and Xiao make their remarks about exorcists, Chongyun's Yang energy nearly boils over.
  • Blessed with Suck: Having an abundance of Yang energy is great for exorcising evil spirits. Too bad it also sends him into an intense heated state that he cannot remember afterwards. To make it worse, even simple things like eating spicy food, exposing himself to the sun for a long time, or wearing warm clothing can trigger this. And even if it is useful in his duties, Chongyun himself rues having this trait, labeling it as a cheap trick. His Hangout Event tree shows that he needs to focus so heavily on not losing control of himself at any given time that merely tasting a chili or drinking a peppered drink can completely cripple him.
  • Blue Means Cold: Chongyun wears mostly white and blue and has ice powers.
  • Cassandra Truth: He sometimes faces disbelief from people who initially express doubt in his capabilities, as he does not have to do anything fancy to ward off spirits. However, he refuses to "go through the motions" like the so-called "exorcists" tend to do, and displays distaste for charlatans who make use of such tactics.
  • Celibate Hero: His voice lines at Friendship Level 6 says he wants to consider partaking in activities of "more passionate nature", but thinking about them is too stimulating because of his excessive Yang energy.
  • Cooldown Manipulation: With his second Constellation upgrade, Atmospheric Revolution, the Chonghua Frost Field gains the ability to shave 15% off the cooldown times of any Elemental Talent triggered within.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: Chongyun's innate Yang energy is perfect for ridding evil spirits, as his mere presence causes them intense pain and can make them cross over. Unfortunately, it also has an effect on his personality, causing him to go wild over very minute things such as tasting spicy peppers. Chongyun himself hates his condition and seeks to be rid of it.
  • Death from Above: His Elemental Burst summons three BFSs made of pure Cryo that impale enemies.
  • Determinator: He's decided to not give up so that one day, he can become the greatest exorcist in Liyue, control his Yang energy, and rid the world of evil spirits. His resolve is implied to be what earned him his Vision.
  • Does Not Like Spam: He hates any food with chilies in them. Not because he cannot stand the spice, but because they trigger his heated side.
  • Dub Pronunciation Change: The characters of his name (重云 in Simplified Chinese, 重雲 in Traditional, and read as "Chóngyún" in pinyin) are read as "Chō'un" (重雲) in Japanese and "Jung'un" (중운) in Korean.
  • Easy Amnesia: Chongyun cannot remember anything he does within his "heated" state.
  • Elemental Hair Colors: His hair is light blue, as befitting his Cryo vision.
  • Elemental Personalities: Zig-zagged. Chongyun suffers from an excess of Yang energy, which causes him to become very easily excitable, not at all in line with Cryo. However, he is aware of this, and works hard to supress his vivacious side. His usual personality is rather tranquil and he rarely raises his voice, which would coincide with Cryo.
  • The Fettered: His voice line about his Vision states that he doesn't try to rely in its power, instead preferring to vigorously train his thaumaturgy skills and martial arts.
  • Friend to All Children: The children of Liyue appear to look up to him, and one route of his Hangout Event tree shows him enjoying their company. While he is at first unsure on how to hang out with children, the ones he spends time with love playing hide and seek with him and adore the popsicles he gives them.
  • The Ghost: His Yang split personality is never actually encountered in game, only referred to by other characters.
  • Heroic RRoD: Trying to suppress his Yang energy from overheating his body, Chongyun once dug a hole in a frozen lake and soaked himself in the icy waters for three days. He suffered from a long-lasting fever after that incident.
  • Humble Hero: In his character story, a wealthy woman was so grateful for Chongyun exorcising an evil spirit that haunted her dreams, she initially wanted to reward him with gold and jewelry. However, Chongyun only took his usual fee of a hundred mora.
  • Icy Blue Eyes: When in his "normal" personality. Otherwise, subverted.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: He wants nothing more than to rid himself of his overabundant Yang energy so he can experience life to the fullest without going into a heated state. He also wishes to fight demons and evil spirits like a true exorcist without having to rely on said state.
  • Instant Runes: One of his idle animations has him drawing and manipulating glowing blue sigils in mid-air. These sigils also appear when he casts his Elemental Burst.
  • In the Blood: Chongyun and Shenhe both have Cryo Visions. Chongyun also seems to have inherited a milder version of Shenhe's curse of bloodthirst in the form of his Yang energy, which can easily overwhelm him and turn him into a wild, Hot-Blooded person.
  • Irony:
    • He is such a successful exorcist that he has never even met a ghost, since they flee in terror from his mere presence. This bothers him, as he feels guilty accepting payment for his exorcisms when he does not have to do much. It also leads to him being forced to use his imagination to describe what the ghost or demon looks like.
    • Despite being an exorcist, others have often mistaken him for a demon due to his overabundance of Yang energy.
  • Kaizo Trap: Chongyun's fourth-ascension passive, Rimechaser Blade, allows the Chonghua Frost Field to coalesce into a Spirit Blade once its duration expires, which immediately drops down to deal wide-ranging Cryo damage on surrounding enemies and reduce their Cryo Resistance by 10% for eight seconds.
  • Man of Kryptonite: His presence is so intensely painful to ghosts they find themselves forced to flee from him or forcibly be made to cross over.
  • Mana Drain: Chongyun's fourth Constellation upgrade, Frozen Skies, restores 1 Energy whenever he hits enemies afflicted with Cryo (within at least two-second intervals).
  • Meaningful Name: His name means "layered clouds," since large, fluffy clouds are typically signs of cold weather, including snow.
  • Mechanically Unusual Fighter: As of this writing, Spirit Blade: Chonghua's Frost Field is the only Elemental Skill that infuses the party's melee attacks (i.e., sword, claymore, or polearm) with an element (i.e., Cryo) within its area-of-effect.
  • Mighty Glacier: Pun aside, Chongyun hits very hard with his skillset, is capable of dishing out massive Cryo damage, and is fairly sturdy. However, he has a slower normal attacking speed due to wielding a claymore, and his Elemental Skill has a long cooldown of sixteen seconds. The former is somewhat mitigated by the attack speed boosts granted by the Chonghua Frost Field.
  • Mood-Swinger: His Yang energy can send him into a sudden, intense mood swing if he becomes overheated. It borders on being a Split Personality, given that Chongyun can't remember what he did afterwards. Xingqiu likes to induce his manic episodes by secretly sneaking spicy or hot stuff in his food. A notice board in Wangshu Inn describes how Chongyun went to town during one such episode, resulting in him wrecking the surroundings and Xingqiu having to pay for the damage.
  • No Social Skills: While not to Razor's degree, Chongyun's condition and family occupation made it so that he never spent time as an ordinary person. In his Hangout Event tree he clearly has trouble speaking to normal people and interpreting social situations, and he frets about not knowing what normal people do for fun or how to behave around children. However, despite his social awkwardness he is shown be good friends with Xingqiu, Xiangling, and Xinyan.
  • Odd Friendship:
    • Despite being annoyed by Xingqiu's pranks and Xiangling's cooking antics, Chongyun hangs out with them in official art and is mentioned in their character stories as a close friend. Xiangling comments that she often sees Chongyun dragged by Xingqiu to dine in her restaurant. His Hangout Event tree describes Xingqiu as a good friend who is knowledgeable in many things.
    • He is also friends with Xinyan, and she was surprised by his fiery spirit in his Yang state.
  • Out of Character: When overheated from Yang energy, Chongyun tends to do awkward stuff that he would not be doing otherwise, such as jumping on a receptionist's desk and chasing Xiangling around while thinking she was possessed by an evil spirit. When this happened in Wanmin Restaurant, even Xiangling was surprised that the "real" Chongyun would act so deranged. In her voiceline about him, Xinyan also mentions initially thinking he looked introverted, but was then surprised when, in one of her performances, he suddenly appeared on stage and started singing besides her. She wraps up the anecdote by remarking that one cannot judge a book by its cover.
  • Power Stereotype Flip: Contrary to his element, he is easily excitable and tends to fly into fiery states easily. Downplayed in that he knows this and tries his best to keep himself calm.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: He plays this trope with himself, switching on a dime from a calm and collected blue oni to a wild and hot-headed red oni.
  • Situational Damage Attack: Chongyun's sixth constellation upgrade, Rally of Four Blades, increases the damage of Spirit Blade: Cloud-Parting Star by 15% against enemies whose HP percentages are lower than Chongyun's, in addition to adding a fourth Spirit Blade.
  • Shaping Your Attacks: Spirit Blade: Cloud-Parting Star creates three large blades of ice (four, with his sixth Constellation upgrade, Rally of Four Blades) and slams them onto enemies. With his fourth-ascension passive, Rimechaser Blade, another ice blade descends immediately after the Chonghua Frost Field dissipates, dealing large-scale Cryo damage equal to that dealt by Spirit Blade: Chonghua's Layered Frost, and reduces enemies' Cryo resistance by 10% for eight seconds.
  • Spin Attack: His Charged Attack has him swing his claymore and spin around in circles at high speed.
  • Spell Blade: He is able to infuse Cryo for polearm, sword or claymore users.
  • The Stoic: He rarely shows emotions even during his exorcism duties. This, alongside his honest and humble nature, earned Chongyun the reputation of having a "a heart of clear water, and a face of ice" from Liyuan scholars. His stoicism is mostly a front that he keeps in order to try and restrain his naturally fiery Yang personality.
  • Supernatural Repellent: His overly abundant Yang energy is an asset when it comes to exorcising spirits. All Chongyun needs to do is stay for a while in the haunted vicinity and the disturbances will stop.
  • Sword Beam: Chonghua's first Constellation upgrade, Ice Unleashed, allows him to unleash three icy blades at the end of his normal attack combo, each of which deal deal Cryo damage equivalent to half of his Attack stat.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: He snacks on a popsicle during one of his idle animations and notes the taste to be helpful in keeping his composure during his Hangout Event tree. He also says that he likes cold food from Inazuma.
  • Unexplained Accent: Among the very few characters to have a noticeably different accent from the entire playable cast; Chongyun's English voice actor, Beau Bridgland, is British, leading to a quite strange-sounding American accent.
  • Upgrade Artifact: A variant—his third and fifth Constellation upgrades, Cloudburst and The True Path, increase the talent levels of, respectively, Spirit Blade: Cloud-Parting Star and Spirit Blade: Chonghua's Layered Frost by three.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: It is heavily implied that he, Xingqiu, and Hu Tao hang out regularly, especially since the other two share an interest in poetry and they often ask Chongyun to act as referee for their poetry battles. In Hu Tao's character stories, the three of them fill the street with laughs.
    • For Xingqiu, while the formeroften plays pranks on Chongyun to the latter's dismay (to the point Chongyun jokingly suggests to open a fan club over his pranks' victims), the two are otherwise best friends.
    • Subverted with Hu Tao, though, as he expresses in his voice-line that he doesn't like her because her irreverence towards exorcists irritates him to the point his Yang energy nearly takes over.
  • Who You Gonna Call?: He's the person to go to when a demon or ghost is haunting an area, and he is exceptionally good at it. Too good, in fact, that he feels bad for not having to do much to exorcise spirits.

Plenilune Gaze
"'With authority over a thousand comes responsibility to a thousand.' Rex Lapis knows the meaning of hardship better than anyone else in Liyue — he has seen everything that has happened from ancient times to the present day, and yet he was forced to give up his entire life. Compared to him, I'm just an everyday Vision holder with everyday responsibilities. I can't complain about my workload."

Rarity: 5★
Birthday: December 2
Element: Cryo
Weapon: Bow
Associated Weapon: Amos' Bow
Model: Medium Female
Constellation: Sinae Unicornis, the Qilin
Specialty Dish: Prosperous Peace (Universal Peace)
Normal Attack: Liutian Archery
Elemental Skill: Trail of the Qilin
Elemental Burst: Celestial Shower
Utility Passive: Preserved for the Hunt (refunds 15% of ores consumed for forging bows)
Affiliation: Yuehai Pavilion

Half-adeptus secretary to the Qixing and emissary of its reigning Tianquan, Ningguang, as well as a comrade-in-arms of Rex Lapis during the Archon War, with whom she signed a contract to help keep watch over the nation as secretary. Given her dual heritage, however, she is struggling to fit in to a Liyue where humanity and adepti are beginning to drift apart.

Ganyu's job as a secretary to the Qixing clouds the fact she is a veteran of the Archon Wars, and such years of experience translate to her skills in crowd control, by distracting her enemies long enough to exploit her ability to further charge up her shots into "Frostflake Arrows" that, upon contact, briefly flies up and splits into six icicles that deal damage over a wide area. Her Elemental Skill, Trail of the Qilin, generates an "Ice Lotus" that draws in enemies before subsequently exploding in a haze of cold wind over a wide area, while her Elemental Burst, Celestial Shower, has Ganyu cast aloft the "Sacred Cryo Pearl," a sphere made of Cryo energy that continually rains down icicles on surrounding enemies.

As Ganyu learns to overcome her self-doubts about her identity, her first Frostflake Arrow shot gains the ability to temporarily increase the Critical Rate of subsequent such Arrows, and the field of Celestial Shower can now boost the party's Cryo Damage Bonus. Once she fully accepts her dual heritage and brings out the best traits of both, Frostflake Arrows and their subsequent icicles gain the ability to temporarily inflict a Cryo Resistance penalty on enemies struck, as well as restore some Energy for Ganyu; Trail of the Qilin gains an additional charge, as well as the ability to negate the charging requirement of the first Frostflake Arrow fired; and the field of Celestial Shower gradually increases its damage potency against enemies proportional to their time within.

Ganyu can only be obtained when the Adrift in the Harbor Character Event Wish is active.
  • Almighty Janitor: Though officially a secretary, Ganyu is a half-adeptus veteran of the Archon War, and far more powerful in combat than her employers.
  • Bad Liar: From her voice line regarding Yaoyao, when asked what the Ministry of Civil Affairs does, she nervously tries to say she does not know, but it's quite clear to anyone that she does.
  • Badass Adorable: Ganyu is a short, young-looking lady with horns that reflect her Adepti heritage and a few other cute traits to her such as her concern for her weight and embarrassment over Cloud Retainer's stories about her. She's also a veteran of the Archon Wars, and hence one of Liyue's oldest defenders.
  • Big Eater: While her petite figure may say otherwise, Xiangling notes that she will eat everything on her plate, even when she has an extra-large serving. Her own line about Xiangling has her say that she normally tries avoiding Wanmin Restaurant lest she be tempted by the smell of the dishes. Her other story entry is about her written notes on tending to flowers in her workplace, which seem passable as academic work... were it not for her scribbled notes and crossed-out lines at the end about how she is tending them as vegetables, implying that the thought of her wanting to eat them slipped out onto her writings.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: "Goat-Horns," to be exact. Nobody in Liyue doubts her capabilities and professionalism, but she also has well-known quirks, like sleeping in the afternoon anywhere she can, or her vegetarian tendencies that sometimes slips into her work, or indeed, her odd "hairpiece."
  • Charged Attack: Uniquely for an archer, Ganyu can charge her shots for longer, creating Frostflake Arrows that deal wide-ranging Cryo damage. Her sixth Constellation upgrade, The Clement, negates the charging requirement of the first Frostflake Arrow shot within thirty seconds of using Trail of the Qilin.
  • Child of Two Worlds: She's half-adeptus, and her Story Quest explores her identity crisis between her adeptus and human heritages. Her character story mentions that Ganyu the qilin finds it difficult to understand mortal squabbles, but Ganyu the human reminds her always to hold out hope that she might someday be able to fit in. One of her voice lines has her express a kinship with the Traveler for being "different" from normal humans, just like her situation.
  • Consummate Professional: Subverted. While she refers to people professionally, she doesn't necessarily enjoy doing so. In fact, if the story is to go by, Ganyu feels lonely among the people in Liyue due to her inability to bond with them.
  • Cool Big Sis: Ganyu, as one of the oldest beings in Teyvat, inspires this to her underlings, especially to Uncle Tian. Although given her age, "Cool Old Lady" would have been a more accurate term.
  • Critical Hit Class: Her first-ascension passive, Undivided Heart, increases the Critical Rate of the second consecutive Frostflake Arrow fired within five seconds of the first one (as well as its subsequent bloom) by 5%. If she keeps shooting Frostflake Arrows, she can keep the buff for long. Combined with Cryo Resonance (with at least two Cryo units on hand, the party gains a 15% boost to Critical Rate against enemies afflicted with Cryo or Frozen) and her natural growth in Critical Damage (which can reach 38.4% at her sixth ascension), in addition to the appropriate equipment loadout, a well-developed Ganyu can dish out a whole lot of pain.
  • Damage-Increasing Debuff: Ganyu's first Constellation upgrade, Dew-Drinker, allows Frostflake Arrows and their bloom to decrease enemies' Cryo Resistance by 15% for six seconds, as well as regenerates 2 Energy for Ganyu whenever they connect.
  • A Day in the Limelight: She takes center stage for the 2023 Lantern Rite event, as she partners up with the Traveler to uncover the origin behind a Fontainean folk tale.
  • Death from Above: Celestial Shower has her summon a floating ice sphere that constantly rains icicles with a wide radius. With her fourth Constellation upgrade, Westward Sojourn, the damage to each enemy increases by 5% for every three seconds they are within the area-of-effect (up to 25%, equivalent to at least fifteen seconds) and will linger for another three seconds once they leave the field.
  • Difficult, but Awesome: Ganyu is capable of doing insane amounts of damage even without Elemental Reactions. The problem is that her damage comes from aimed shots in compositions where she serves as the main damage dealer which can be hard to use for most players and are prone to interruption. To remedy this, Trail of the Qilin creates a decoy to help group her enemies to ensure that she can at least fire off a Frostflake Arrow. Once mastered, Ganyu can dish out insane amounts of wide-ranging damage. It's why she's still a top tier DPS and despite being one of the earlier 5 star units, she still holds her own against recent units (Raiden Shogun, Nahida, Cyno, Yelan, etc).
  • Ditzy Secretary: Despite being the secretary to the Qixing, Ganyu implies herself in one line that, in her years of experience, she has been prone to some mistakes. One of these would be when she napped in a cart, and accidentally ending all the way to Dihua Marsh.
  • Draw Aggro: Trail of the Qilin creates an icy lotus that draws enemies' attention before exploding and dealing wide-ranging Cryo damage either after six seconds or it has taken sufficient damage. This synergizes well with her aim-and-shot-oriented fighting style. Her second Constellation upgrade, The Auspicious, adds a second charge to the Skill.
  • Dramatically Missing the Point: Her Story Quest begins with her contemplating staying with the adepti after she saw Baishi, Baiwen, and Baixao handling her workload upon returning from Minlin after reporting to the adepti on the aftermath of the Osial crisis, thinking her task was a pretext for the Qixing to release her from her job. Not once did it occur to her that the three secretaries were just substituting for her.
  • Dub Pronunciation Change: Due to Alternate Character Reading, in the Japanese dub, she's named Kan'u and in Korean, it's Gamu.
  • Foil:
    • To Shenhe. Both are Cryo Vision holders who were raised and trained by Cloud Retainer, but in every other area they're opposites. Ganyu is a half-adeptus, is closer to humans than the adepti, and fights at range with a bow. Shenhe is a human often mistaken for an adeptus, is closer to the adepti than her fellow humans, and fights up close with a polearm. Fanservice-wise they differ due to their opposite clothing styles, with Ganyu's outfit drawing attention to her breasts and back, while Shenhe's to her hips and legs.
    • She's also a foil in several ways to Yanfei: both are female half-adepti, though through opposite parents (Ganyu, via her Qilin mother; Yanfei, via her Xiezhi father); they are, respectively, Cryo and Pyro Vision holders; and while Ganyu is unwavering in fealty to Rex Lapis and his vision for Liyue, Yanfei feels no particular loyalty to him or his ideals, though her law practice does dovetail with his adherence to contracts.
  • Formerly Fat: One of her character stories reveals that during the Archon War, a giant monster ate her and it choked to death trying to swallow her, and her great embarrassment inspired her to lose weight. Cloud Retainer also tells the Traveler and Paimon that Ganyu was so chubby as a child that she would roll down the mountain like a ball whenever she tripped. This embarrasses Ganyu to no end.
  • Gameplay and Story Integration: Since Ganyu is a vegetarian, her disliked dishes in the "Spices from the West" event include all of the meat dishes. That being said...
  • Gameplay and Story Segregation: Despite the fact her being a vegetarian, the player can still feed her meat-based dishes without issues whatsoever.
  • Girl Friday:
    • Ganyu is a hardworking lady who helps the Qixing oversee everyday affairs as secretary, while also representing Ningguang to the Liyuan public. Her Story Quest shows that three human secretaries struggle to fulfill Ganyu's tasks she left behind when she was sent to report to the adepti on the Qixing's behalf.
    • As a part of her oath to Rex Lapis, Ganyu serves and aids the Qixing in their management of the country, despite some misgivings over Keqing's skepticism.
  • Glass Cannon: Ganyu is one of the hardest-hitting archers in the game, but her insane damage potential comes at the cost of being extremely fragile, and as an archer her skillset favors ranged attacks and hit-and-run tactics.
  • Godzilla Threshold: Discussed in her final ascension line, which has her say that she once read about how "Only when days be darker than the darkest night, may a Qilin be compelled to fight" (referring to the Qilin's normally peaceful nature). She then claims that it is an exaggeration, and indeed, she can (and did) fight when she truly needs to, even if she prefers peaceful resolutions.
  • Guile Heroine: In the second half of her Story Quest, Ganyu helps Huixin with her investigaton of allegations of tax evasion by a pair of rival vendors, Bolai of Wanyou Boutique and Dongsheng of Second Life, using a social trick she calls "your enemy knows you best." First, she provokes Bolai into exposing Dongsheng's irregular tax reports by claiming the latter's shop has far better credit than his; then she travels to Qingce, where she found evidence from Fanmu Carpenters of Dongsheng's unaccounted-for purchase of some expensive furniture. Then she returns to Liyue Harbor to provoke Bolai into revealing Dongsheng's own dirty laundry with the knowledge of his underhanded purchase, correctly suspecing his rival of having ratted him out, after which she leaves Huixin to do the rest. Afterwards, Ganyu confesses to Huixin that she learned the trick from Uncle Tian, leading the latter to realize that she, who otherwise refused to ask for help from her father, still has much to learn from him. As Paimon puts it, Ganyu manages to help Huixin with both her work and her family problems at the same time.
Ganyu: "Pitting your opponent against their enemies and watching them drag each other down from an advantageous position. That's how Uncle Tian managed to keep his position in the Qixing secure for so many years. I figured that as Uncle Tian's daughter, you'd naturally grasp your father's strategies. So I decided to use one of your father's tricks and play it out for you to see."
  • Hartman Hips: Due to her wardrobe choice, it's evident Ganyu has some fairly wide hips on her.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: She is half-adeptus, being part human and part Qilin.
    • She intentionally hides her Qilin heritage from most people, out of fear that people may distance themselves from her; only a handful of people (like the Qixing and her fellow adepti) know about it.
    • Her first story quest delves into this aspect of her in detail.
Xiao: "You're neither an adeptus, nor a human, always treading the line between the two worlds. It must create a lot of confusion."
    • One volume of the Records of Jueyun series describes one origin of her: one night, in a time when humans still wore clothing made of leaves and plants, a herb gatherer stopped by a mountain pool to bathe. A young Qilin passes by, not knowing of the conduct of the Zhenjun in human world, ate his clothes. Out of guilt, and concern for startling the vulnerable man, she transformed into a human form. Then the two went around in the mountain's wilderness for a whole night and slept together while "sharing ancient dreams." When the man woke up at dawn, the Qilin was gone. Legends say that either she left a basket in front of the herb gatherer's house before she disappeared, which held a baby, or she started to live among mortals, gave birth to children, and experienced the life of mortals.
  • Herd-Hitting Attack: In Genius Invocation TCG, she excels in dealing AoE damage that ignores shields and damage reductions.
  • Horned Humanoid: She has velvet-red horns that bend backwards along with her hair owing to her half-adeptus lineage. According to Chef Mao, Xiangling's father, the public seems to assume that she is wearing a headdress. She is sensitive about her horns, both physically and mentally; in her gameplay introduction video, after she wakes up, she says "please don't touch my horns".
  • I Am Not Pretty: Ganyu worries consistently about her figure and implicitly believes that people would discriminate against her if they discovered her "headdress" is actually a pair of horns. Though there are no comments on her overall appearance, Paimon remarks in one Serenitea Pot conversation that she thinks her horns are kind of cute.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: Ganyu feels that as a half-adeptus, she has a trouble relating to the humans of Liyue beyond a professional level. She describes her being among the "sea of people" as "feeling the loneliness of an inhuman who doesn't belong in the human world." This is after she thought the Qixing abandoned her when she found out Baishi, Baiwei, and Baixiao filled her position while she was away (temporarily, unbeknownst to her). She thought she can start embracing her adeptus side, but the Traveler tries to convince her to return to Liyue despite some reluctance. Upon meeting Uncle Tian, she gets her "working mood" back and helps his daughter Huixin in her work. After that, Huixin expresses her sincere gratitude to Ganyu for the latter's help. This lightens up Ganyu so much that she realizes that people really do accept her as one of their own and see her as a tremendous help.
  • I Need to Go Iron My Dog: When Cloud Retainer begins to share moments from her childhood again in the "Fleeting Colors in Flight" event, Ganyu tries to escape by suddenly "remembering" that she has an urgent matter to attend to. This, in spite being on leave throughout the Lantern Rite. Cloud Retainer also points out that since Keqing is present, Ganyu could simply settle the matter right there. Ganyu proceeds to claim that the matter involves Ningguang, and successfully makes her getaway when Keqing steps in to vouch for her.
  • Intergenerational Friendship: She's good friends with the Uncle Tian and his daughter Huixin despite being millennia older than them.
  • Kirin: She's half-Qilin, with the horns on her head reflecting her heritage. As such, she carries out both human and adeptus duties. And of course, she's on the side of good, having signed a contract with Rex Lapis millennia ago to watch over Liyue as secretary to the Qixing, reflecting tales of the Qilin's benevolence in Chinese Mythology.
  • Leotard of Power: Although very hard to see since it blends in with her black tights, Ganyu actually wears a high-cut black leotard that shows off her curves and exposes her back.
  • Long-Range Fighter: One of a select few characters who deals enough damage at long range to function as a party's carry. Ganyu's reliance on aimed shots and fragility encourages that players take advantage of this when possible.
  • Loyal to the Position: Ganyu has been serving as secretary for the Qixing for at least two thousand years.
  • Martial Pacifist: One of her lines have Ganyu state she prefers peaceful resolutions to problems, similarly to Ningguang. That said, she claims that despite being a Qilin, she thinks their image as overly pacifist in nature is exaggerated. Indeed, she is a very capable fighter who in fact once fought alongside Rex Lapis two millenia ago.
  • Meaningful Echo: Early in her Story Quest's early part, a self-proclaimed pilgrim named Xin Cheng doubts that she's an adeptus as she talks more "like the city folk." In the end, when she returns to Yuehai Pavilion, one of the employees that filled her work says that she is like an adeptus who comes to save all life.
  • Meaningful Name: Ganyu's name means "sweet rain," fitting for a polite and nice, if meek and quiet, woman.
  • Meat Versus Veggies: Being half-Qilin and as noted by herself (and other characters like Xiangling), Ganyu is a vegetarian. She even likes eating Qingxin flowers and needs them for her ascensions. You can still use meat-based dishes on her though, since if you couldn't it would be frustrating.
  • Messy Hair: Ganyu has a lion's mane of a hair whilst very pretty looking, is also very messy and unkempt, which highlights her insane workaholic nature.
  • Mighty Glacier:
    • The bulk of Ganyu's raw damage comes from her charged shots, specifically her unique Frostflake Arrows, requiring that she spends a few seconds charging a single strong arrow strike each time instead of unloading a rapid volley of arrows. This means her attacks will hit very hard, but at a much slower rate than many other main DPSes.
    • In Genius Invocation TCG, She can deal an obscene amount of AoE damage with her Frostflake Arrow, and her Elemental Skill provides damage reduction. However, it takes as many as 5 Cryo dice to use Frostflake Arrow, so she would at most use it twice per round.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Albeit more conservative than other examples. Ganyu is a good-looking lady whose clothing of choice is a skintight black leotard that leaves her back and shoulders exposed, as well as tights and high-heels. As a result, her outfit leaves little to the imagination.
  • My Master, Right or Wrong: Ganyu is fiercely devout to Rex Lapis and is deeply loyal to the Qixing that she serves even when they start taking harsher measures towards the other Adepti.
  • Mythical Motifs: The Qilin are divine beasts from Chinese Mythology known for their benevolence to all living things. Ganyu takes on that quality, with a twist: she signed a contract with Rex Lapis to watch over and help every living being in Liyue, and she does so in a more "human" way, i.e., becoming a secretary in Liyue's government.
  • Nature Lover: When not working with the Qixing, the focused and enigmatic Ganyu instantly transforms into a more airheaded and carefree girl who enjoys naps, long strolls, and flower-gazing on the shores of Dihua Marsh. Quite fitting for a gentle soul and a Qilin.
(Chat: Attentive) "If you lie on the grass, you can hear the heartbeat of the world."
  • Nice Girl: While her nervous and quiet demeanor mean she doesn't get to show it too often, Ganyu is a warm, kind and unfailingly polite lady, and usually has something good to say about people. It goes to the point she will passionately defend her friends and the people she is (or was) close with from others' opinions on them, such as Beidou and her master, Rex Lapis.
  • Onee-sama:
    • In the Japanese dub, Uncle Tian calls her this way; he has known her since he was young, and he claims he does it out of habit. She feels embarrassed about how someone of his position calls her that way. The Traveler can then have a dialogue choice where they tease her by calling her the same way.
    • Yae Miko refers to Ganyu formally as "elder sister" in her Japanese, Chinese, and Korean voiceovers, which is a nod to her senior age note .
  • The Quiet One: She is quiet and reserved, leading Xiangling to believe that she must feel lonely whenever she appears at Wanmin Restaurant. It is this trait that also causes her to be reluctant in questioning Keqing's orders even when she may personally disagree.
  • Really 700 Years Old: Despite having the appearance of a young woman somewhere in her late teens to early 20s, Ganyu is at least a few millennia old, and fought alongside Rex Lapis during the Archon War over two millennia ago. Following the reveal, the Traveler can snarkily ask how old she is and how it relates to her forgetfulness, a question she diverts away from.
"How short is a thousand years? To Ganyu, it has felt shorter than the blink of an eye. Throughout a passage of time unimaginable to mortals, Ganyu has been working on all manner of things at Yujing Terrace."
  • The Reliable One: She is to Liyue what Jean (and, to a lesser extent, Noelle) is to Mondstadt. As her character story puts it:
"Under almost all circumstances, Ganyu is a very trustworthy secretary. It is hard to imagine anyone outperforming her in the face of such an enormous workload, especially given her unique and penetrating insights into all of Liyue's matters."
  • Secret Relationship: According to Beidou's remarks on Ganyu, they are close friends, though she worries about Ganyu running into some problems should people discover her associating with a known privateer, so she asks the Traveler to "keep it between us." Ganyu herself comments in her line about how people do not respect Beidou despite the latter's contributions to Liyue's prosperity, and then she acts as if it is not something that should "slip out" of her mouth.
  • Sensual Spandex: Downplayed. At first glance, Ganyu seems to wear a black bodysuit. Peek under her apron-like skirt, however, and eagle-eyed observers notice that she is actually wearing a black leotard with dark tights.
  • Sexy Secretary: She's been serving as the Qixing's secretary for many years, long enough for her to probably find more suitable clothing for the job than a skintight leotard worn over tights.
  • Sleepyhead: Though she can manage to remain quite focused while working and often puts in overtime, this means outside her duties she is perpetually drowsy, and on occasion even falls asleep out on the street or in areas with monsters. Fortunately, this will not actually happen in combat, though one of her idle animations has her almost doze off standing up. This got her in trouble at least once, where she accidentally ended up all the way to Dihua Marsh while she was sleeping inside a cart.
  • Splash Damage Abuse: Frostflake Arrows can still do respectable damage even if she shoots it at the ground to hit multiple enemies with its blast instead of the initial arrow.
  • Status Buff:
    • In the battle against Osial, she provides the party with a buff that constantly recovers HP.
    • Her fourth-ascension passive, Harmony between Heaven and Earth, bestows upon the damage radius of Celestial Shower the ability to increase the party's Cryo Damage Bonus by 20%.
  • Trick Arrow: In addition to the normal elemental arrows, she can charge slightly longer to fire Frostflake Arrows that create a small shower of icicles wherever they land in effect, explosive ice missiles.
  • Undying Loyalty: Ganyu is very loyal and looks up to Rex Lapis, as she understands that he genuinely cares for Liyue and has worked for the country's sake and wishes she can be the same. This feeling is reciprocated by him i.e Zhongli.
  • Upgrade Artifact: A variant—her third and fifth Constellation upgrades, Cloud-Strider and The Merciful, increase the talent levels of, respectively, Celestial Shower and Trail of the Qilin by three.
  • Vapor Wear: Between her Sexy Backless Outfit and detached sleeves, one can infer that Ganyu isn't wearing a bra.
  • Weight Woe: She's overly concerned about her physique. Even though she is a vegetarian, she is also a Big Eater and she struggles to maintain her appetite in a city known for its culinary culture. She was also Formerly Fat: back in the Archon War, she was once Swallowed Whole by a giant monster, only for the monster choke to death as her waistline was wide enough to make her get stuck in its throat. Even though her fatness saved her, the whole experience was so embarrassing to her that she swears to not let something similar happen in the future.
  • With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility: Her voice-over about the Vision (quoted above) has her mention Rex Lapis' titanic responsibility to the thousand people he ruled, and that compared to him, she is merely a Vision holder with the responsibilities of a normal person.
  • Workaholic:
    • Justified, due to two reasons. First, she's the secretary to the Qixing, meaning her workload is incredibly heavy between managing paperwork and helping with development plans, among other things. Second, she's part illuminated beast, giving her the perk of enhanced stamina and thus allowing her to handle such heavy workloads that are placed on her.
    • Her Story Quest has Baishi, Baiwei, and Baixiao claim that even in her days off, Ganyu still thinks about working.
    • She asked the Traveler and Paimon if they would like to go with her to work overtime near the end of her character trailer.
    • In "The Exquisite Night Chimes" in 3.4, Ganyu and Keqing agree to split their work between the two, but Keqing is shocked to hear Ganyu would do it in two days without sleep. The former suggests her to do it in three... but sure enough, Ganyu still does it in two, leading herself to feel exhausted. She only manages to push through because of, again, her illuminated beast heritage.
    • She even says in her "Hobbies" voice-over that working is her hobby. Apparently, given how long and drawn out her job is, the Traveler points out to her the oddity.
(Ganyu's Hobbies) "[...] Why don't jobs count as hobbies? I thought hobbies are supposed to be things you look forward to doing, and that make you feel good when you've done them? That describes my job perfectly. So what's the issue?"
    • Unfortunately, this has also come at the cost of her social life, as she otherwise doesn't have too many friends. This, and her Qilin heritage, causes her to feel alienated and Lonely Among People. After thinking the Qixing replaced her while she was away, she contemplated staying in Minlin, but after the Traveler convinces her to return to Liyue, a little help of Uncle Tian and helping his daughter Huixin in her work lets her regain her working mood.

Icy Resurrection
"Hey, do you know what? Uh... neither do I. I... already forgot."

Rarity: 5★
Birthday: March 3
Element: Cryo
Weapon: Sword
Associated Weapon: Nonenote
Model: Short Female
Constellation: Pristina Nola, the Ancient Bell
Specialty Dish: No Tomorrow (Come and Get It)
Normal Attack: Ancient Sword Art
Elemental Skill: Adeptus Art: Herald of Frost
Elemental Burst: Adeptus Art: Preserver of Fortune
Utility Passive: Former Life Memories (displays location of Liyue-exclusive resources on the minimap)
Affiliation: Bubu Pharmacy

A little girl who died in an accident but was subsequently revived by the adepti with an immortal body. Spending years suspended in amber, she was unearthed, woken up, and taken to Bubu Pharmacy, where she now works as an apprentice who gathers herbs. However, her zombification is flawed, leaving Qiqi with a tendency to rely on someone's orders. Worse still, she has lost most of her capacity to retain memories, making her rely on a notebook to remember things.

For a little (undead) girl, Qiqi can easily go into the thick of battle with her high durability and a fighting style which seamlessly integrates offense and healing. Her Elemental Skill, Adeptus Art: Herald of Frost, sics the same-named ice spirit on surrounding enemies, after which it will linger on around the active character to periodically heal them and damage surrounding enemies, in addition to allowing Qiqi to heal the entire party with her normal and charged attacks. Her Elemental Burst, Adeptus Art: Preserver of Fortune, has Qiqi summon a blizzard around her, marking surrounding enemies with "Fortune-Preserving Talismans" that allow the party to heal themselves whenever they attack marked enemies.

As she starts to remember how to fully draw on her divine gifts, allies accompanied by the Herald of Frost gain a temporary boost to their Incoming Healing Bonus whenever they trigger Cryo-related reactions, and Qiqi gains the ability to randomly mark enemies with Fortune-Preserving Talismans through her normal and charged attacks. Once Qiqi overcomes her crippling debilitation, the Herald of Frost gains the ability to restore some of her Energy whenever it hits enemies marked with Fortune-Preserving Talismans; her normal and charged attacks increase in potency against enemies with a Cryo effect; Fortune-Preserving Talismans can now impose an Attack penalty on marked opponents; and Adeptus Art: Preserver of Fortune gains the ability to revive all fallen allies up to half of their HP.

Qiqi can be obtained from either the Character Event Wish or Wanderlust Invocation.
  • Ascended Meme: The memes of Qiqi's "Cocogoat" being Ganyu were not lost on miHoYo, given Qiqi's appearance in Ganyu's character demo despite no in-game sign of the two having a connection (apart from both being Cryo Vision holders).
  • Attractive Zombie: If it wasn't for the paper talismans on her body, she'd pass for a normal human girl .
  • Back from the Dead: Her sixth Constellation upgrade, Rite of Resurrection, allows Adeptus Art: Preserver of Fortune to revive all fallen allies up to half of their HP (within at least fifteen-minute intervals).
  • Badass Adorable: Qiqi is an cute little zombie girl, what with her speech patterns, monotone voice, and forgetfulness. She's also a sword-wielding Combat Medic (for bonus points, her healing scales off her Attack stat, encouraging players to build her to hit harder) who has adeptus powers sealed within her (which she lets out during her Elemental Burst) and is strong enough to carry Xiao on her back and then walk a considerable distance back to Bubu Pharmacy.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: She's an adorably scatterbrained zombie, but her name card shows she reserves a special kind of hatred towards Hu Tao.
(Namecard: Cold Storage) "What should be kept in the fridge? Dr. Baizhu's herbs, coconut milk... and Hu Tao."
  • Blessed with Suck: Her immortality is a blessing given by the adepti, but Qiqi cannot age past her childlike appearance, and it is very difficult for her to make new memories, causing her to forget everything that happens to her unless she writes things down in a notebook. And then she can forget about the notebook itself. According to the text about her specialty dish, she also has lost her sense of taste, and can only tell differences in consistency.
  • Boring, but Practical: Despite her simple playing style, Qiqi still has one of the most powerful Burst healing capacities. Fortune-Preserving Talismans restore so much HP that the active character is virtually immortal as long they hit marked enemies. She also has among the highest base Defense stats in the game, ensuring she won't go down easy. Her Cryo element is often desirable for resonance purposes. In addition, the introduction of the Ocean-Hued Clam artifact set allows her to convert all of her healing, including overflows, into a not-insignificant amount of off-field damage.
  • Broken Pedestal: Played for Laughs. Qiqi loves coconut milk, so much so that she believed it to be a special substance. In her head, since goat's milk comes from goats, and coconut milk is so much better than goat's milk, she comes to the logical conclusion that coconut milk must come from a special goat on the level of an adeptus, which she dubs the Cocogoat adeptibeast. She is so heartbroken to learn its significantly more mundane origins that you can hear it even through her monotone. Of course, it still does not change how much she loves it, as shortly after this she begs Baizhu into signing a deal that would guarantee her a constant supply.
  • Came Back Strong: She suffered fatal injuries when she got caught in a battle between the adepti and demons. The former felt so guilty about it that several of them relinquished some of their own power to restore her to life. However, since humans aren't meant to bear the undiluted power of the adepti, she...
  • Came Back Wrong: And upon waking, was unable to control her new powers, going berserk and causing all manner of destruction until Mountain Shaper managed to subdue and seal her in amber. Luckily, over the next several centuries, most of her powers drained away, so that once she was freed, she was left with "only" her near-immortality and poor memory.
  • Chill of Undeath: Qiqi is undead, and her element is Cryo.
  • Chinese Vampire: She's themed after a jiangshi, though she's significantly more "fresh"-looking than most examples of the trope. If not for the paper talisman on her forehead, one could easily mistake her for a living person.
  • Combat Medic: Qiqi can simultaneously deal respectable damage and heal her allies, albeit in her case she can do so with both Elemental Talents.
  • Creepy Monotone: Subverted. She speaks in a flat tone, being undead and all, but combined with her voice and constant forgetfulness, it ends up being "adorable" instead of "creepy"
  • Cryptic Background Reference: One of Qiqi's lines when triggering her burst is "Sacred Name: Fortune Preserver". She's quite literally stating that when she was altered by the adepti, they gave her an adeptus name.
  • Cute Bruiser: Despite being one of the tiniest characters, she has among the highest Defense stats in the game, along with moderately high HP and Attack, and she fights with a sword (unlike Klee and Diona, who use bombs and a bow, respectively).
  • Death by Origin Story: Her accidental death during a battle between the adepti and some demons is what led her to Immortality, getting Super-Strength and her Cryo vision.
  • Dowsing Device: Her field passive shows the location of Liyue-specific flowers on the mini map, befitting her job as herb gatherer.
  • Dub Pronunciation Change: The characters of her name (七七, read as "Qīqī" in pinyin) are read as "Nana" in Japanese, alluding to the fact that the character reads "seven" in both Chinese and Japanese, while the Korean dub transliterates it into "Chichi" (치치).
  • Elemental Personalities: An Emotionless Girl who wields a Cryo Vision.
  • Emotionless Girl: Being resurrected as a zombie, it is justified that she rarely has emotions whenever she speaks.
  • Even the Loving Hero Has Hated Ones: Qiqi makes no bones as to how much she despises Hu Tao after the latter first tried to exorcise her, with Qiqi making it a point to commit Hu Tao's face to her already poor memory because of the latter's animosity towards her undeath.
(About Hu Tao) "Warm. Fake smile. Death. I despise Hu Tao."
  • Feel No Pain: Zig-zagged.
    • One of her damaged lines has Qiqi say "I didn't feel that."
    • However, Qiqi still takes damage from attacks, and particularly strong ones can make her stagger.
  • Forgetful Jones: Her zombification has cost her any long-term memory she might keep. As a result, she writes down important things in a journal to remember them, but sometimes she forgets the journal as well...
  • Friendly Zombie: She still has the mentality of a child after her revival, she only follows her master's orders (and her own, when necessary) and is a docile person.
  • Funny Background Event: She's often seen running around in a few of official trailers, sometimes with Hu Tao chasing her.
  • Gameplay and Story Segregation: Being "blessed by the Adepti with a body that cannot die" does not actually prevent her from falling in combat, since this would become overpowered for obvious reasons; her powerful healing abilities do help her, and your party survive more often, though.
  • Glacier Waif: Aside from her being a Cryo character, her small stature belies the fact that she mechanically leans closer to a Stone Wall due to her high durability and healing-focused abilities.
  • Gradual Regeneration: By default, the Herald of Frost gradually restores the active character's HP, in addition to giving Qiqi a Life Drain ability (see below), not unlike Barbara's Melody Loop.
  • Happily Adopted: By Baizhu. While Qiqi notes that some of his behavior is insincere and he has ulterior motives, she is happy being cared for by Baizhu and he treats her well, giving her access to whatever she wants.
  • I'm Cold... So Cold...: One of her fallen quotes is this verbatim.
  • Informed Attribute: Her backstory and profile states that Qiqi's zombification gave her an immortal body. This does not apply in combat, for obvious reasons, although she does have surprisingly high Defense.
  • Jerkass to One: Outside of Hu Tao, Qiqi is kind and friendly to everyone she meets. Even after Hu Tao wants to atone for her mistakes, Qiqi still does not reciprocate.
  • Lethal Chef: Implied. The description for her specialty dish reminds the player that although she may have spent a lot of time perfecting it, she still has no sense of taste, and that it will take courage to actually put chopsticks to the food. The fact that it's called "No Tomorrow" doesn't help.
  • Life Drain: The Herald of Frost is active allows Qiqi to heal her party in tandem with her normal and charged attacks, while Fortune-Preserving Talismans allow any active character to heal themselves by attacking marked enemies.
  • Loophole Abuse: As noted by Zhongli when you meet her, normally zombies cannot do anything without a command from their master. There is no rule against the zombie being its own master, giving orders to itself whenever it wants to do something. How she contrived this arrangement is not clear, but this allows her to (mostly) act like a normal person.
  • Marked to Die: Adeptus Art: Preserver of Fortune inflicts Fortune-Preserving Talismans on enemies struck, which allow the party to heal themselves by attacking marked enemies. Qiqi's fourth-ascension passive, A Glimpse into Arcanum, grants her normal and charged attacks a 50% chance to inflict the marks (within at least thirty-second intervals) for six seconds each, while her fourth Constellation upgrade, Divine Suppression, allows the Talismans to impose a 20% penalty to the marked enemy's Attack stat.
  • Meaningful Name: The sole syllable that forms Qiqi's name is homophonous with the term for life-force in Chinese philosophy, albeit using different Han characters and pronunciations (the life-force is written as 气 in Simplified Chinese and 氣 in Traditional, as well as pronounced as in pinyin, whereas the "qi" in Qiqi's name is written as 七, meaning "seven," and pronounced as ). Jiangshi consumes qi from the living, reflected by Qiqi's ability to heal by stealing enemy HP.
  • Mysterious Past: Nothing is known about her mortal life, least of all by Qiqi herself. Her fourth Character Story gives some info, namely that she also gathered herbs in life (as shown in the name of her field passive), and that she fell and hurt her leg, taking shelter in a cave where she died after she got caught in a battle between the adepti and demons. Everything aside from that, however, remains a mystery.
  • Never-Forgotten Skill: Despite how otherwise terrible her memory is, the name of her normal attacks pattern, Ancient Sword Art, implies that the manner she fights with a sword is the same technique she used in her old life centuries ago.
  • Nice Girl: Despite being... well, undead for centuries, Qiqi is nevertheless a kind and friendly soul to everyone she meets (unless their name is Hu Tao).
  • Once Done, Never Forgotten: Hu Tao's original attempts to bury her led to Qiqi memorizing places to hide from Hu Tao and harboring a great deal of anger towards her, to the extent of still wanting to stuff her into a fridge despite Hu Tao now pampering her to no end after finding out about Qiqi's story.
  • Older Than They Look: She's more than "hundreds of years" old (as said in her fifth character story) since that is the elapsed time after the Adepti sealed her in amber, and before humans she discovered her.
  • Orbiting Particle Shield: Adeptus Art: Herald of Frost summons a same-named Herald of Frost that orbits the active character for fifteen seconds, periodically dealing Cryo damage to surrounding enemies and healing the active character, in addition to allowing Qiqi to heal the party in tandem with her normal and charged attacks based on a fraction of her Attack stat.
  • Out of Focus: As of this writing, Qiqi has the least focus out of the game's 5★ units, and even compared to most of the game's 4★s, barely has a presence in the story. She's the only 5★ besides Keqing to not have her own Story Quest, only appearing for a short while in the Liyue Archon Quest where her only role is wasting the Traveler and Zhongli's time, and her roles in Liyue-focused events tend to be similarly minimal.
  • Paper Talisman: She wears one on her forehead, hence identifying her as a Chinese Vampire. Adeptus Art: Preserver of Fortune also marks her enemies with Fortune-Preserving Talismans that allows anyone who attacks them to heal their own HP, as well as suffer a 20% Attack penalty if Qiqi has unlocked her fourth Constellation upgrade, Divine Suppression.
  • Pintsized Powerhouse: Unlike Klee and Diona, other characters of the "Short Female" build who exclusively fight with projectiles, Qiqi uses a sword, and can clobber enemies much larger than herself with it.
  • Power Incontinence: After Qiqi was resurrected, she became berserk, unable to control the adepti energy raging through her. Mountain Shaper was crucial in sealing her in amber.
  • The Power of Love: Zombies instinctively follow any orders given to them by their master. This becomes a problem when she receives complex or difficult tasks, as she will not stop even if she fails endlessly. The method to cancel such orders involves hugging Qiqi from behind and telling her "I love you the most," or something like it. However, the gesture must be sincere, so Baizhu doing it reduces its effects.
  • Regenerating Mana: Her first Constellation upgrade, Ascetics of Frost, restores 2 Energy whenever the Herald of Frost hits an enemy marked with a Fortune-Preserving Talisman.
  • Seven Is Nana: In the Japanese localization, she is named "Nana," which fits the original Chinese name that literally means "seven-seven".
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: To convince Qiqi to sell you incense (without the required prescription), you and Zhongli must repair an ancient siege weapon, fight off a bunch of treasure-hunting bad guys, and track down a mythical creature called a "Cocogoat." You never get anywhere on that last part and report back to her, only to learn that she thought coconut milk came from a "coco-goat." No such creature exists.
  • Situational Damage Attack: Qiqi's second Constellation upgrade, Frozen to the Bone, increass the damage potency of her normal and charged attacks by 15% against enemies affected by Cryo.
  • Sliding Scale of Gameplay and Story Integration:
    • Qiqi makes it no secret that she despises Hu Tao, generally avoiding her when she can and wanting Hu Tao to leave her alone. Fittingly enough, similarly to Baizhu, the two have remarkably poor team synergy — Qiqi's skillset revolves around healing and the party's survivability, while Hu Tao's playstyle generally encourages players to keep her health low through her Elemental Skill. This discourages players from having them in the same party, which is exactly what Qiqi wants.
    • After being revived by the adepti she was unable to control their power within her, hence why she was sealed in amber. This lack of control is reflected in-game by her fourth-ascension passive, A Glimpse into Arcanum, where her normal attacks have a 50% chance to mark enemies with Fortune-Preserving Talismans, which comes from the adeptal energy she normally unleashes in her Burst.
    • Her profession as a herb gatherer for the Bubu Pharmacy is reflected in-game with her field passive, which reveals the location of all Liyue-exclusive flowers on the minimap.
  • Snipe Hunt: She sends Zhongli and the Traveler on one by accident, as she had wrongfully attributed coconut milk to a fictional "adeptibeast" she called "the Cocogoat."
Qiqi: "What it looks like: don't know. Where to find it: don't know either. Where it came from: also don't know."
  • Status Buff: Qiqi's first-ascension passive, Life-Preserving Methods, allows the Herald of Frost to confer a 20% boost to the active character's Incoming Healing Bonus for eight seconds whenever they trigger any kind of elemental reaction.
  • Stronger Than They Look: Despite her short, small stature, she is actually strong enough to carry an unconscious Xiao on her back as revealed by the "Endless Suffering" trailer.
  • Terse Talker: She often speaks in short sentence fragments.
  • The Stoic: She seldomly expresses herself through words or emotions.
  • Third-Person Person: Instead of using pronouns, Qiqi refers to herself using her own name. Unlike Paimon, she does occasionally refer to herself in first-person.
  • This Looks Like a Job for Aquaman: As a healer who more often than not overheals, Qiqi is one of the few healers who can get a lot of mileage out of the Ocean-Hued Clam artifact set, which turns her excess healing into significant damage. Furthermore, the introduction of the Corrosion status effect gives Qiqi's healing an edge over shielding characters as the latter group cannot protect against its damage-over-time effect, which can kill characters very quickly.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: She loves coconut milk. Her request to Zhongli and the Traveler was to find a "Cocogoat" and slay it, believing it to be the source of coconut milk.
  • Traumatic Superpower Awakening: Qiqi received her Vision in her dying moments, and her desire was to stop her death by "freezing time" and live again. These feelings translated into Qiqi being gifted a Cryo Vision. The adepti then revived her and imparted her with a part of their strength.
  • Undead Child: Qiqi died at an early age and still looks like a young child after her revival as a zombie.
  • Undeathly Pallor: She's a zombie with a "bone-white" pale complexion.
  • Underestimating Badassery: A group of Treasure Hoarders once threatened Qiqi when she was alone picking herbs. They did not realize that this little girl is a strong zombie who could "send a whole crew flying."
  • Upgrade Artifact: A variant—her third and fifth Constellation upgrades, Ascendant Praise and Crimson Lotus Bloom, increase the talent levels of, respectively, Adeptus Art: Preserver of Fortune and Adeptus Art: Herald of Frost by three.
  • Voodoo Zombie: She is a mixture of this and a Chinese Vampire, taking the undeath, name, and obedience to a master.
  • Willfully Weak: Being a zombie, Qiqi possesses supernatural speed and strength that she normally suppresses in her daily life, only unleashing her self-control when in combat.
  • Zombie Gait: Defied. Her character story mentions that zombies like her normally have difficulty moving around, but she makes a point of doing calisthenics to keep her body fit and mobile and one of her idle animations has her doing stretches.

Lonesome Transcendence
"If I treat people kindly, they call me an adeptus, and if I put them in their place, they call me a witch. Heh... The one thing you'll never hear them call me is 'human'. They all seem to agree that I'm fundamentally... different from them."

Rarity: 5★
Birthday: March 10
Element: Cryo
Weapon: Polearm
Associated Weapon: Calamity Queller
Model: Tall Female
Constellation: Crista Doloris, the Crest of Sorrow
Specialty Dish: Heartstring Noodles (Dragon Beard Noodles)
Normal Attack: Dawnstar Piercer
Elemental Skill: Spring Spirit Summoning
Elemental Burst: Divine Maiden's Deliverance
Utility Passive: Precise Comings and Goings (Increases rewards by 25% when dispatched on an Expedition in Liyue for twenty hours)
Affiliation: Cloud Retainer's Abode

Adopted daughter and disciple of Cloud Retainer. Hailing from a branch of the same clan of thaumaturges as Chongyun, various events conspired to bring her under the wing, so to speak, of the adeptus, who not only trained her in the way of the adepti, but also helped her control a childhood curse that frequently draws out her aggressive, nigh-murderous urges.

Shenhe's training under Cloud Retainer has turned her into a powerful exorcist who summons "Talisman Spirits," phantasmal beings in her likeness, to attack alongside her, with a particular specialization in empowering fellow Cryo Vision holders. Her Elemental Skill, Spring Spirit Summoning, has her either lunge forward in tandem with with a Spirit in its basic form, or command a Spirit from a distance to damage surrounding enemies in its held form; in either form, she gains an "Icy Quill," which increases the potency of any Cryo-elemental attacks, be it infused regular attacks or Elemental Talents, and ends after either its duration expires or it has reached a quota of such attacks, with a greater duration and quota when the Quill is activated through the held form. Her Elemental Burst, Divine Maiden's Deliverance, has her let loose a Spirit to periodically attack enemies within an area-of-effect that also decreases their Physical and Cryo Resistances.

As Shenhe learns to tame her bloodlust, the field of Divine Maiden's Deliverance gains a Cryo Damage Bonus boost for allies within its radius, and the basic and held forms of Spring Spirit Summoning gain the ability to temporarily boost the damage potencies of the party's, respectively, Elemental Talents and regular attacks. Once she overcomes her curse and learns to live in harmony with adepti and humans alike, Spring Spirit Summoning gains an additional charge; the field of Divine Maiden's Deliverance enjoys an extended duration, as well as gains the ability to boost the Critical Damage of any Cryo-elemental attack triggered within; and the Icy Quill gains the ability to confer upon Shenhe stacks of "Skyfrost Mantra" whenever its damage bonus is triggered, which can then be consumed on the first Spring Spirit Summoning used afterwards to further increase its damage potency, in addition to the Quill negating the quota buildup from normal and charged attacks.

Shenhe can only be obtained when The Transcendent One Returns Character Event Wish is active.
  • Abusive Parents: After the death of her mother, Shenhe's father ignored her dying plea to take care of Shenhe, and instead opted to sacrifice her to a lingering remnant of an evil god in order to revive his wife, especially after the demon informed him of Shenhe's curse. However, a journal entry Yun Jin and the Traveler find in her village suggests he came to regret this when the demon didn't keep its end of the bargain, possibly since Shenhe was fighting back hard enough to prevent it from doing so, apologizing to both his wife and Shenhe in his final entry before hanging himself in shame.
  • Added Alliterative Appeal: Her Red Baron title, "The Divine Damsel of Devastation".
  • Animal Motifs: Her outfit evokes a red-crowned crane (Grus japonensis). Apart from keeping in line with Cloud Retainer's avian appearance, the bird is a symbol of longevity in Chinese Mythology, commonly depicted carrying away humans who attain immortality; while adepti are not immortal they are certainly Long-Lived, and Cloud Retainer in particular rescued Shenhe from her battle with a demon, as well as taught her adeptal arts. In addition, during the Ming and Qing dynasties the bird also came to symbolize loyalty, befitting Shenhe's fealty to her master and adoptive mother.
  • Area of Effect: Divine Maiden's Deliverance creates a field within which a Talisman Spirit is let loose to attack enemies within its radius, in addition to imposing a penalty to their Physical and Cryo Resistances. Shenhe's first-ascension passive, Deific Embrace, adds a 15% boost to the Cryo Damage Bonus of allies within its radius, while her second Constellation upgrade, Centered Spirit, extends its duration from twelve seconds to eighteen, as well as adds a 15% boost to Critical Damage of the party's Cryo-aligned attacks.
  • Ax-Crazy: Defied. Shenhe had been cursed with intense homicidal urges since she was a child and had her soul bound by red ropes to curb them along with her emotions in general. While she's mostly civil, she still gets the occasional urge to dispose of whatever inconveniences her in the most violent manner possible. She's well aware of this, and states that she loathes crowds because of it.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: She first met the Traveler and Paimon when she's getting accosted by a couple thugs trying to mug her under the guise of selling her information for the building of a second Jade Chamber, to which they respond by getting the Milileth to arrest the thugs and bail her out. This, followed by the both of them treating her like they would anyone else despite initially assuming she's an adeptus, leads to her accepting the two as friends.
  • Bizarre Taste in Food: Zig-zagged. When the Traveler first met her, they learn that she previously went from restaurant to restaurant and bought all their signature dishes, only to take a small bite and simply leave after. After they get some thugs off her back and decide to take her to a treat, she asks for Qingxins, Violetgrasses, and Glaze Lilies, which she immediately devours. She then reveals that she actually finds them bitter, but they're what she normally ate in the mountains and she didn't want to get too attached to Liyue's local cuisine in case she didn't feel like staying. The herbs themselves are not part of some special adeptal diet either, rather it's because apparently none of the adepti in Jueyun Karst can cook; during The Exquisite Night Chimes Mount Shaper muses to Moon Carver that if he'd been able to use Cloud Retainer's Supreme Cuisine Machine then poor little Shenhe would have had more to eat than just herbs while growing up.
  • Black Comedy: Thankfully, her homicidal impulses are only expressed verbally and restricted to comedy.
  • Blue-and-Orange Morality: Her lack of interaction with society, dampened emotions, and urge to kill seemed to have led to a strange set of morals. She causally suggests murdering competitors in finding materials for the new Jade Chamber because it's a competition. And in a Serenitea Pot line, she suggests to kill a flock of birds under the assumption that their singing woke the Traveler up.
  • Brick Joke: One of Chongyun's idle voice lines has him recite a mantranote , only to fumble the last line due to always forgetting it. Shenhe, who was introduced over than a year later, finally completes the mantra in one of her idle voice linesnote .
  • …But He Sounds Handsome: Downplayed and subverted. When Yun Jin tells the story of the Divine Damsel of Devastation, a positive spin on Shenhe's Dark and Troubled Past, she admits to liking the story, but comments how the little girl in the story may not have been as brave as the story makes her out to be, but aspires to be as brave as her.
  • Charles Atlas Superpower: Even before she started her training, Shenhe was already strong, capable of fighting off the remnant of an evil god for three days straight at the age of six. Shenhe's training under Cloud Retainer has only made her stronger, capable of lifting a huge chunk of plaustrite and carrying it all the way to the Jade Chamber's construction site by herself.
  • Cool Aunt: While she is presumably actually Chongyun's maternal cousin, he affectionally refers to her as "Auntie Shenhe"note . She seems accepting of the role, expressing a desire for him to visit her in the mountains to train together. It's also implied that her dislike of Xingqiu is due to his tendency to play pranks on him.
Xingqiu: (About Shenhe) I find that Miss Shenhe seems to look at me somewhat fiercely, so I daren't approach her lightly. Bizzare, did I inadvertently upset her? Or maybe... upset someone close to her?
  • Crippling Overspecialization: Shenhe is highly focused on boosting the damage output of Cryo, as well as melee to a lesser extent, units. Outside of that, she is not as powerful.
  • Cursed with Awesome: She bears a terrible curse that comes packed with intense homicidal urges that have only grown stronger with age, forcing the adepti to seal her emotions away to dampen them. This curse is why she was sacrificed to the evil god her father summoned... and is also why she survived the experience, as she fought back with nothing but a dagger. She was fighting for three days and nights before she was found by Cloud Retainer, who claims that it could have been possible for Shenhe to win.
  • Cutscene Power to the Max: While a powerful 5★ capable of buffing her party's Cryo Damage, including hers, her gameplay wouldn't suggest that she's capable of freezing an entire tsunami like she does in the climax of her Character Quest.
  • Cutting the Knot: When offering a solution to the Traveler and Paimon on how to win the competition, Shenhe suggests simply killing the other competitors and has to be told how that's not a viable option.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Presumably since she was born, she was afflicted with a steadily growing curse that gave her intense homocidal tendencies, and it's implied that she caused her mother's death as a result. Her father, driven mad with grief, tried looking into ways to revive his wife, which culminated in a demon offering to do so in exchange for Shenhe, with her father accepting the deal upon learning of her curse, with some harsh parting words to boot. Shenhe, with nothing but a exorcism knife she got from her mother and at the tender age of six, fought the demon to a statelmate for several days, only passing out when Cloud Retainer showed up to fend the demon off and Shenhe was certain she wasn't a threat. Taken in and trained by the adeptus thereafter, she eventually returned to her old village to find it destroyed and abandoned, with her father having killed himself out of guilt over his actions.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Despite her lack of social contact, Shenhe is no stranger to dry verbal barbs, such as suggesting that a drunken guest leave her alone if he wanted to drink from an orifice of his choice, or on a more light-hearted example, playfully mimicking a saying by Cloud Retainer on mortal food.
(About Least Favorite Food) [...] "'The common delights of the mortal realm pose no hindrance to the adepti, thus, we may indulge in all manner of dishes as we please'... these are the exact words my master said."
  • Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?:
    • Shenhe's father tried to sacrifice her to an evil god to revive her mother. Emphasis on "tried," because she fought back viciously, and would likely have outlasted her opponent even had Cloud Retainer not stepped in. Mind you, this is the sort of enemy that Xiao and the other Yakshas dedicated their lives to fighting, and she stalemated it for three days and nights at the age of six with nothing but a dagger.
    • Near the end of her Story Quest, after the Traveler gets injured by Beisht, Shenhe freezes the tsunami that Beisht summoned, then chases after her when Beisht retreats underwater and defeats her alone.
  • Doomed Hometown: The next time she visited her old village after she was taken in by Cloud Retainer, she found the place in ruins. Cloud Retainer noticed that she seemed rather upset by this upon her return.
  • Dub Pronunciation Change: The characters of her name (申鹤 in Simplified Chinese, 申鶴 in Traditional, "Shēnhè" in pinyin) are read as "Shinkaku" (申鶴) in Japanese and "Sinhak" (신학) in Korean.
  • Elemental Hair Colors: Though she was born with black hair, it turned white after she combed it thrice with the White Jade Comb that Cloud Retainer gave to her as a mark of her apprenticeship, and it presently fits her Cryo vision.
  • Elemental Personalities: Invoked by the red ropes. Shenhe's personality was far more murderous as a result of a curse, before she was found by Cloud Retainer, who made her wear red ropes in her clothes that not only subdued said murderous streak, but the rest of her emotions as well. The result is that despite her still having violent trains of thought once in a while, Shenhe is for the most part stoic, bordering on being an Emotionless Girl, which coincides with wielding a Cryo Vision.
  • Emotionless Girl: Downplayed and justified. The adepti bound Shenhe's soul with red ropes to restrain her homicidal tendencies, which had the side effect of sealing away much of ability to show emotion. On the other hand, Shenhe's tone during a few voice-overs can be differentiated enough to know when she's pleased or upset (she sounds amused when imitating Cloud Retainer, and a little disappointed that other people treat her like an outcast), and she has done her best to improve on showing emotion and on her lack of social skills.
  • Emotion Suppression: As a result of the red ropes on her clothes. She can still show emotion through her voice, but rarely changes her expression.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: Has white, double-ringed pupils.
  • Fighting Spirit: Shenhe specializes in summoning Talisman Spirits, ethereal beings made in Shenhe's image.
    • Spring Spirit Summoning has Shenhe either dash at an enemy in tandem with a Spirit in its base form, or command a Spirit from afar to attack her enemies in its held form, in addition to both forms generating an Icy Quill. Her first Constellation upgrade, Clarity of Heart, adds an extra charge to the Skill.
    • Divine Maiden's Deliverance has Shenhe let loose a Spirit to slash away at her enemies within an area-of-effect that also reduces their Physical and Cryo Resistances.
  • Foil: To Ganyu. Both are Cryo Vision holders who are raised and trained by Cloud Retainer and worry about integrating into human society, but in every other area they're opposites. Shenhe is a full-blooded human who finds more affinity with the adepti and is a melee fighter, while Ganyu is an actual adeptus but is closer to humans and is a ranged fighter. Even fanservice-wise their choice of clothing draws attention in opposite directions, with Shenhe's drawing attention to her hips and legs, and Ganyu's to her breasts and back.
  • Gameplay and Story Integration: Shenhe and her distant nephew Chongyun have a unique synergy together; since each party member gets their own Icy Quill, the two can be combined with other characters that have powerful melee attacks to get more mileage out of each use of Spring Spirit Summoning, through Chongyun's Chonghua Frost Field.
  • Gameplay and Story Segregation: Shenhe is hyped up as one of the most physically powerful members of the cast, so it's a bit odd how she's designed as a Support Party Member for Cryo teams. She's not weak, but gameplay-wise she's meant to play sidekick to characters like Ganyu and Ayaka who will outdo her in terms of damage output; the narrative suggests the opposite.
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: Her eyes glow a bright blue when she summons a talisman to freeze the tsunamis stirred up by Beisht, just in time to stop them from engulfing the rest of the combat forces present.
  • Hidden Buxom: Downplayed. Her big boobs aren't exactly that well-hidden, with her wearing a skintight bodysuit with only a flap-like shirt over them, but compared to her Hartman Hips and long legs, which have no such thing covering and even have windows on each side to expose some skin, they're unlikely to get as much attention.
  • Hiding Behind Your Bangs: Her right eye is usually covered by her bangs, and she's rather asocial (but is working on it).
  • I'm Not a Hero, I'm...: Shenhe makes a point of denying any deliberate attempts at heroics, and notes that any monster slayings that happen to go about are a force of habit. One character story detailing her killing monsters near a village were her removing an unpleasant distraction from her and her master's meditation. And she claims that she merely fought Beisht on account of the latter attacking the Traveler.
  • Important Hair Accessory: Shenhe wears her "White Jade Comb" on the right side of her head. It was given to her by Cloud Retainer when she was offered to become the adeptus' apprentice, and she has kept it ever since to symbolise her connection to the adepti.
  • Impossible Hourglass Figure: While her more obvious assets are on the lower side, Shenhe evidently has an impressive bust hiding beneath the white garment on her torso, and she's a proficient and deadly warrior who was trained by the adepti.
  • In the Blood: Shenhe and Chongyun both have Cryo Visions. Whereas Chongyun seems to be cursed with powerful "Yang energy," Shenhe by comparison is cursed with bloodlust which are subdued with red ropes.
  • Jack of All Stats: Although she lacks healing and defensive abilities, Shenhe can still serve as an adept DPS/Support unit. Her playstyle is largely about empowering Cryo-based teams by using her Elemental Skill to grant the party an Icy Quill, which increases Cryo damage from all possible sources proportionate to Shenhe's Attack stat, meaning you can build her with DPS in mind while still making her a capable supporter for fellow Cryo characters.
  • Lady of War: A quiet exorcist who fights with smooth, elegant polearm attacks.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: One of her character selection quotes.
"Understood. ...I just have to stand here, right?"
  • Long-Lost Relative: To Chongyun. In the Chinese dub, Chongyun specifically calls her "小姨"note , a title that refers to the youngest aunt or female cousin on the mother's side. Since Shenhe is an only child, she is Chongyun's biologically related cousin on his mother's side.
  • Mama Bear: Towards Chongyun. She expresses an interest in training him and loathes Xingqiu for regularly playing pranks on him.
  • Ms. Fanservice: She wears a skintight bodysuit that shows off all her curves with two windows at her waist that expose her bare hips.
  • Murder Is the Best Solution: Between not growing up in human society and her curse which amplifies her aggressive urges, she's remarkably quick to suggest violent solutions to even the most mundane problems. For instance, when she learns that the Traveler is participating in a material foraging competition for the building of a new Jade Chamber, Shenhe's first thought is to murder their competitors.
  • Mystical White Hair: Shenhe has silver-white hair, contrasting the black hair she was shown to have as a child. The reason for the change stems from a comb given to her by Cloud Retainer, who instructed Shenhe to brush her hair thrice with it to sever ties with the mortal world and enter her tutelage. Shenhe did so with no hesitation, and keeps the comb on her person to the present day as a sign of her connection to the adeptus.
  • Navel Window: Though this detail is omitted on her 3D model, in official artwork her navel is visible through the mesh of her clothes.
  • No Social Skills: As she spent the majority of her life in the presence of the adepti, Shenhe's ability to interact with other humans is understandably poor, and made worse when her murderous tendencies begin to kick in. When being harried by persistent individuals, she may offer a few curt words before moving along with her business, at best; at worst, lethal force (in more ways than one) is brought into consideration. Fortunately, the Traveler and Cloud Retainer's tutelage have allowed her to break out of her shell a bit.
  • Person of Mass Destruction:
    • Zig-zagged. It's explained that, should Shenhe not even have her red ropes, she could become an even more dangerous person than what she already is as a result of her curse. These red ropes and the tutelage of the adepti are the reasons she is more stoic and controlled about her powers, though causing her emotions to peak is implied to still cause her to break away. This is driven home when she freezes a gigantic tsunami created by Beisht when attempting to protect Liyue and the Traveler from her rampage.
    • It's also discussed by Yun Jin. Completing the "The Crane Returns on the Wind" quest unlocks a voice-over from Yun Jin where she recalls an opera called "The Divine Damsel of Devastation", and claims she was surprised the "divine damsel" this opera is based on is a real person.
  • Red Baron: Judging by Yun Jin's famous opera, one of Shenhe's titles is "The Divine Damsel of Devastation".
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: When the Traveler gets injured fighting Beisht, Shenhe promptly cuts loose and freezes her tsunami in its tracks. Beisht then dives down to the seafloor to recuperate. Shenhe is so pissed off she follows the serpentine deity and beats her up so hard she is forced to retreat for a longer while. Evidently, no one and nowhere is safe from Shenhe's wrath.
  • Ship Tease: Shenhe becomes very attached to the Traveler, her first human friend. During an optional conversation in the "Fleeting Colors in Flight" event, she seems rather disappointed when the Traveler tells her that they have no plans to settle down in Liyue. In "Of Drink a-Dreaming", she actually heads north to Mondstadt to order a drink from Angel's Share specifically because she heard the Traveler is acting as bartender for the week.
  • Situational Damage Attack: Spring Spirit Summoning generates an Icy Quill, which increases the potency of all Cryo-aligned attacks, be it infused regular attacks or Elemental Talents, based on a fraction of Shenhe's Attack stat, lasting until either ten seconds have passed or five Cryo-aligned attacks have been used, with the held form of the Skill extending the Quill's duration to either fifteen seconds or seven attacks. Her fourth Constellation upgrade, Insight, additionally grants her stacks of Skyfrost Mantra for sixty seconds whenever her allies' attacks trigger the Quill's enhancement, which can then be consumed once she triggers the Skill anew to increase its damage potency by 5% per stack (to a maximum of fifty stacks, or 250%), while her sixth, Mystical Abandon, negates the quota buildup from Cryo-infused normal or charged attacks.
  • Situational Sword: Shenhe only truly shines when she teams up with fellow Cryo Vision holders, buffing their damage output significantly.
  • Status Buff: Her fourth-ascension passive, Spirit Communion Seal, allows Spring Spirit Summoning to grant a 15% damage boost for her allies, either to their Elemental Talents for ten seconds in its tapped form, or to their normal, charged, or plunging attacks for fifteen seconds in its held form.
  • The Stoic: For a definition of one. Shenhe doesn't emote much and she speaks a good deal of her dialogue with a polite, to-the-point tone.
  • Stop Worshipping Me: Downplayed; due to her otherworldly demeanor and powerful aura, she is often mistaken for an adeptus. While she does take to the adeptal lifestyle like a fish to water, she's still human, so being mistaken for an adeptus bothers her quite a bit.
  • Stranger in a Familiar Land: Despite being born and growing up in Liyue, being raised from her youth among the adepti made her alien to her human heritage, and she has worries if she can ever fit back in.
  • Superpower Lottery: Even by Vision holder standards, Shenhe is shown to be extremely powerful. She has Super-Strength that allows her to lift a giant chunk of plaustrite with ease and also can use her Cryo Vision powers to summon a Fighting Spirit she can fight in tandem with.
  • Super-Strength: Due to her training by the adepti, Shenhe is capable of easily lifting tons worth of plaustrite on her shoulder and getting to their destination faster than the Traveler. Unsurprisingly, she gets confused for an Adeptus.
  • Tareme Eyes: Her eyes are a bit droopy, emphasizing her stoicism and Emotion Suppression.
  • Upgrade Artifact: A variant—her third and fifth Constellation upgrades, Seclusion and Divine Attainment, increase the talent levels of, respectively, Spring Spirit Summoning and Divine Maiden's Deliverance by three.
  • Vapor Wear: Because of the location of the windows on Shenhe's body suit, it's impossible for her to be wearing panties.
  • When She Smiles: Look at her!
  • You Remind Me of X: Xingqiu says she reminds him of "a good friend of (his)", likely refering to Chongyun, who happens to be her nephew.

Frostflake Heron
Springbloom Missive
"Many look up to me as the Shirasagi Himegimi and as the daughter of the Kamisato Clan. But the object of their respect has everything to do with my position, and nothing at all to do with me, Ayaka. It makes me think that... maybe, there is only one person I know who is truly able to get close to me..."

Rarity: 5★
Birthday: September 28
Element: Cryo
Weapon: Sword
Associated Weapon: Mistsplitter Reforged
Model: Medium Female

Specialty Dish: Snow on the Hearth (Sakura Mochi)
Normal Attack: Kamisato Art: Kabuki
Elemental Skill: Kamisato Art: Hyouka
Elemental Burst: Kamisato Art: Soumetsu
Alternate Sprint: Kamisato Art: Senho
Utility Passive: Fruits of Shinsa (10% chance to craft double the amount of Weapon Ascension materials)
Affiliation: Yashiro Commission, Kamisato Clan

The public face of the Kamisato Clan, and hence the Yashiro Commission, and younger sister of its leader Ayato. Beautiful and elegant, she carries herself with the utmost grace befitting a noblewoman, even as she yearns for life's simple pleasures.

Grace and beauty define Ayaka in combat, specializing on hit-and-run tactics through her unique dashing skill, Kamisato Art: Senho, where she disappears into a cold haze and, upon reappearing, deals Cryo damage on surrounding enemies as well as temporarily infuses her attacks with Cryo. Her Elemental Skill, Kamisato Art: Hyouka, blows away surrounding enemies with a snowy bloom, while her Elemental Burst, Kamisato Art: Soumetsu, summons a "Frostflake Seki no To," a freezing whirlwind that damages enemies within its radius before unleashing a bone-chilling explosion.

As Ayaka further refines her swordsmanship, Kamisato Art: Hyouka gains the ability to temporarily boost the potency of her normal and charged attacks, and Ayaka restores some Energy, in addition to a temporary boost to her Cryo Damage Bonus, whenever the Cryo burst of Kamisato Art: Senho hits enemies. Once she learns to embody the beauty of the Kamisato Art, her Cryo-elemental normal or charged attacks can now randomly cut into the cooldown time of Kamisato Art: Hyouka; Kamisato Art: Soumetsu gains the ability to summon three Frostflakes Seki no To, in addition to allowing them to inflict a temporary Defense penalty to enemies struck; and Ayaka can now periodically enter the "Usurahi Butou" state, which confers a massive damage boost to her first charged attack.

Kamisato Ayaka can only be obtained when the Heron's Court Character Event Wish is active.
  • Animal Motif: Long-legged, long-necked white birds, specifically egrets, herons, and cranes. One of her nicknames is "Shirasagi Himegimi" (白鷺の姫君, "egret princess"), egrets being a variety of heron with white plumage, whose name in Japanese is literally written as "white heron" (白鷺). Her character subtitle is the "Frostflake Heron". Her constellation is Grus Nivis, the Snow-white Crane. And Ayaka herself is a Yamato Nadeshiko type character associated with nobility, purity, elegance, tranquility, and stillness, all qualities also associated with the heron in Japanese culture.
  • Apologetic Attacker: One of her Elemental Skill lines has her apologizing to her enemies as she fights them.
  • Badass Adorable: Ayaka is very beautiful, cute, elegant, and sweet, harboring a love for foreign food as well as adventuring. She is also a very masterful swordswoman.
  • Badass Boast: Probably not boast from her point of view (mind you, it's Ayaka we're talking about), but when helping a merchant retrieve his stolen goods in her Story Quest and he mentions people in the Kanjou Commission could take an issue, Ayaka minces no words. Paimon lampshades it.
Kurisu: [...] What if someone high up in the Kanjou Commission sees what you're doing and doesn't like it? You're a highly respected member of society... [...]
Ayaka: Very humorous. Let's not forget that I am the eldest daughter of the Kamisato Clan. I would be very surprised indeed if anybody in the Kanjou Commission felt that I was accountable to them for my actions.
  • Battle Ballgown: She's the first character since Noelle to wear actual armor, and like Noelle she has it integrated into her dress.
  • Betty and Veronica: The Betty to Yoimiya's Veronica, since both their story quests are mandatory to unlock the second third of the Inazuma Archon Quest and feature Ship Tease with the Traveler. Dressed in a conservative and dignified Battle Ballgown, her trailer emphasizes her beauty and gracefulness, with a swift and precise combat style.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: As a petty Rōnin thug learned the hard way in her Story Quest, pressing Ayaka to show her (extremely proficient) battle skills is a terrible idea.
  • Big Eater: Implied. Her Story Quest shows her ordering quite an amount of food, and her love of cooking is directly connected to her love of eating as well. She even said that one thing she wants to do when adventuring is to taste different foods from all over the world.
  • Blow You Away: Played with. While Ayaka is a Cryo Vision holder, both her Elemental Talents involve blowing gusts of bone-chilling wind on her enemies with a considerable knockback potency. Specifically, Kamisato Art: Hyouka casts aloft surrounding enemies, while Kamisato Art: Soumetsu summons the Frostflake Seki no To, a snowy whirlwind that damages any enemy on its trajectory before exploding to deal wide-ranging damage.
  • Breast Plate: A black one with the Kamisato Clan's logo, which she wears on top of her kimono.
  • Combat Hand Fan: Ayaka's Elemental Talents heavily rely on her ornate hand fan to amplify her Cryo powers.
  • Cooldown Manipulation: Her first Constellation upgrade, Snowswept Sakura, grants her Cryo-infused normal and charged attacks a 50% chance to shave 0.3 second off the cooldown time of Kamisato Art: Hyouka, encouraging players to adopt Hit-and-Run Tactics through Kamisato Art: Senho.
  • Critical Hit Class: Ayaka's fighting style is designed to dish out high-powered critical hits and potent Cryo damage, which is supplemented with her ascension stat being Critical Damage (which can reach 38.4% at her sixth), and can be further supplemented with the Blizzard Strayer artifact set and Cryo Resonance.
  • Damage-Increasing Debuff: Her fourth Constellation upgrade, Ebb and Flow, allows the Frostflake Seki no To to inflict a six-second-long 30% Defense penalty on enemies struck.
  • Dub Name Change: In the Chinese dub, per Alternate Character Reading with pinyin, her name is Shénlǐ Línghuá.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Ayaka appeared a total of three times each in the Announcement Trailer way back June 2019, the Teyvat Chapter Storyline Trailer where she's the featured Inazuma character, and the v1.6 livestream where she gives some commentary on some of the locations in Inazuma. She was also playable in the pre-release beta and could have easily been playable at launch. In spite of all that, she wasn't actually released alongside the initial roster because the main story only covered Mondstadt and Liyue when the game officially launched in September 2020.
  • Elegant Gothic Lolita: Her Springbloom Missive outfit evokes a classic/vintage lolita style with downplayed frills visibile on her skirt and neck collar, a waist ribbon on her back, white pantyhose, a pair of brown high-heeled boots, and a sunflower hat. The main dress is also a mirrored western version of her original Japanese-inspired outfit while still maintaining the oriental design characteristics of the latter, such as the Kamisato Clan emblems and the dangling oriental ropes on her waist ribbon.
  • Elemental Hair Colors: Her hair is as pale blue as the Cryo vision she wields.
  • Elemental Shapeshifting: Like Mona before her, Ayaka has an alternate sprint, Kamisato Art: Senho, where she disappears into a trail of icy fog and inflicts Cryo on enemies she comes in contact with.
  • Famed In-Story: She is renowned across all of Inazuma as being an extremely gifted and beautiful young scion of the Kamisato Clan, to the extent that some see her as the face of the clan despite her brother Ayato being its head.
  • Family Theme Naming: With her older brother Ayato.
  • Fighter, Mage, Thief: Among the three "Medium Female" characters (alongside Kokomi and Yoimiya) that help the Traveler in the Inazuma Archon quest, Ayaka is the fighter; being a swordswoman who really excels in close combat.
  • Fire/Ice Duo: The Cryo to Yoimiya's Pyro.
  • Flower Motifs: The Japanese camellia (Camellia japonica / 椿, tsubaki), which also acts as the emblem of the Kamisato Clan, is present on Ayaka's armor as well as her fan. In Japan, they are symbols of love and affection, with the white variant carrying an additional meaning of "waiting." This alludes to Ayaka's growing feelings of adoration for the Traveler and her decision to wait for them, knowing full well that their time in Inazuma is but a brief stop in their journey. Additionally, her mother Kayo would sometimes take the alias "Tsubaki" whenever she sneaks out.
  • Formal Characters Use Keigo: In the Japanese dub, Ayaka speaks like this. Which goes hand in hand with being a Yamato Nadeshiko and the daughter and representative of a prestigious family in Inazuma.
  • Full-Name Basis: The game refers to her by her full name of Kamisato Ayaka at all times.
  • Gathering Steam: Ayaka's sixth Constellation upgrade, Dance of Suigetsu, periodically summons a stack of Usurahi Butou at least every ten seconds, which bestows a whopping 298% damage boost to her next charged attack.
  • Girly Girl with a Tomboy Streak: Feminine as she is, she also has a love for adventuring and is shown to be quite a big eater.
  • Glass Cannon: Played with, but ultimately she's this. Being the second character after Mona to possess a unique dash, Ayaka is very fast-moving and applies Cryo to passersby, and her rapid-fire sword strokes and enormous Attack make her one of the fastest and hardest-hitting swordfighters in the game. However, despite her decent bulk, Ayaka doesn't have the same hit-taking ability as other units like Jean, Kazuha or Nilou, and none of her skills scale off her HP or Defense; since her playstyle requires her to get up close and personal to maximize her Cryo damage, players are thus heavily encouraged to use hit-and-run tactics to deal the absurd damage Ayaka is capable of.
  • Hard Work Hardly Works: A subversion. While this initially seems true, as Ayaka is held up as something of The Ace and treated as though she does everything effortlessly, it's eventually revealed that Ayaka was never naturally good at anything, but had to push herself to master all the skills she needs to be the face of the Kamisato Clan in her mother's place.
  • Hidden Buxom: Her Springbloom Missive costume shows that Ayaka has a fairly decent chest underneath the armor and kimonos she normally wears.
  • High-Class Fan: Owns a dark blue and yellow folding fan that she holds in her splash art and is also featured in her name card as well as in her combat animations. The description of her name card further elaborates that she changes her fans frequently, with dancing fans or tea fans being good choices as gifts for her.
  • Hime Cut: As befitting her status as a noble woman from Inazuma, she has level bangs across her forehead that stop above her eyes and cheek-length side locks tied with ribbons that frame her face. The ''Tsubaki in Thawing Snow'' trailer shows that she has worn this hairstyle since childhood.
  • Hit-and-Run Tactics: To offset Ayaka's build, players are incentivized to keep her dashing to and fro with Kamisato Art: Senho, which applies Cryo onto enemies during her dash, as well as onto her regular attacks in the aftermath. Her fourth-ascension passive, Kanten Senmyou Blessing, bestows an 18% boost to her Cryo Damage Bonus for ten seconds (in addition to restoring 10 stamina points), and her first Constellation upgrade, Snowswept Sakura, allows her Cryo-infused normal and charged attacks to randomly cut into the cooldown time of Kamisato Art: Hyouka. With both upgrades active, this allows Ayaka to easily dispatch her enemies, especially whenever she triggers Freeze or Superconductive reactions (the latter which can reduce Physical Resistance) before they can even touch her.
  • Humble Heroine: As seen in her Story Quest when she, the Traveler and Paimon help a merchant retrieve his stolen goods from a Rōnin thug, Ayaka's motivation to help people transcends her position as representative for the Kamisato clan; to her, it's simply one person helping another in need. She also encourages the merchant to sell her a piece of silk like he would to any customer, rather than taking it for free.
  • Iaijutsu Practitioner: Her swordplay is heavily based on this style, making use of swift slashes and frequently sheathes her sword in between draws. Her recovery animations have her sheathe her sword like a katana while a mitsudomoe symbol glows at her sheathing hand, regardless of the sword the player has equipped her with.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: After coming across a secret notebook written by her mother, Ayaka realizes that there is a side of herself that wishes to live life as an ordinary woman. While she knows she can never truly remove herself from her duties to both Clan and Commission, she is at least able to attend an Inazuman festival with the Traveler and Paimon.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: Her Story Quest reveals that because she is put on a pedestal as the model of a perfect lady, none of the local children are willing to approach her. As a result, she is ecstatic to hear the Traveler and Paimon call her their friend.
  • An Ice Person: In addition to holding a Cryo Vision, Ayaka has an alternate sprint that allows her to vanish into a fog of snow and dart around the field, as well as infuse her regular attacks with Cryo in the aftermath, making her one of the most consistent elemental appliers among her fellow Cryo Vision holders.
  • Improbable Aiming Skills: Her character summary says that on snowy days, she practices her swordsmanship by slicing every snowflake falling around her.
  • Jack of All Stats: Has a combination of good HP and Defense in addition to her high Attack.
  • Karmic Jackpot: Defied — After helping Kurisu, a merchant, retrieve his stolen goods from a vagrant, he offers her a piece of silk for her troubles, since she had been looking for some. Ayaka declines, opting to purchase it.
  • Lady of War: Both her noble status and her acclaimed and prodigious ability to wield a blade with grace and refinement qualify her as one.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Ayaka is the second character after Mona to have an alternate sprint ability, making her one of the fastest-moving characters in the game, and her rapid-fire sword strokes also make her among the fastest-hitting Sword users in the game. This is without mentioning her sky-high ATK stat, ensuring Ayaka will always be dealing serious damage.
  • Like Mother, Like Daughter: Ayaka's Story Quest has her discover that her late mother Kayo was, like herself, similarly pressured with the responsibilities of the Yashiro Commission and also wanted to be able to live life like an ordinary woman.
  • Lonely at the Top: While she takes great pride in fulfilling her duties, Ayaka also admits in her Story Quest to feeling rather lonely and desiring companionship. A shopkeeper even says that she doesn't have many friends.
  • Master Swordswoman: A lifelong student of the Kamisato Art of swordsmanship, Ayaka has spent years practicing with her brother Ayato, himself a highly-renowned swordsman. It is through this that Ayaka was able to hone her speed and snowflake-slicing precision, and by the events of the game she has polished her skills to such a degree that the Raiden Shogun herself, the progenitor of all Inazuman martial arts, acknowledges her mastery of the sword. Ayaka even introduces herself this way when obtained from a Wish.
(Hello) "Master of Inazuma Kamisato Art, Tachi Jutsu — Kamisato Ayaka, present! Delighted to make your acquaintance."
  • Modesty Shorts: Wears white shorts under her hakama skirt, which makes sense given all the fighting and climbing she's doing. During her beta, she wore only panties, as it was assumed her knee-length hakama combined with the fact that camera angles aren't totally free would prevent most panty shots, but her underwear was changed to shorts before release.
  • Mundane Utility: Out of all Cryo units, Ayaka is the fastest "ice bridging" unit due to having an alternate sprint like Mona's that lets her sprint on water and creates an icy platform when coming out of said sprint.
  • Nice Girl: Befitting a textbook Yamato Nadeshiko, Ayaka is humble, sweet and nice to everyone.
  • Ojou: She is the eldest daughter of the Kamisato clan, one of Inazuma's most esteemed families and holders in the Yashiro Commission.
  • Power Stereotype Flip: Unusually for a Cryo Vision holder, Ayaka is quite the Nice Girl, and is much more open with her feelings than people would like to think she is.
  • Razor Wind: Kamisato Art: Soumetsu summons a Frostflake Seki no To, a freezing whirlwind that rapidly damages enemies before exploding. Her second Constellation upgrade, Blizzard Blade Seki no To, adds two smaller whirlwinds that deal 20% as much damage as the "main" whirlwind.
  • Silk Hiding Steel: Ayaka is a demure young Yamato Nadeshiko, as well as a Master Swordswoman.
  • Ship Tease: Ayaka's Story Quest, playable-voice-overs and other interactions make it very clear she's developed feelings for the Traveler (regardless if the Traveler is Aether or Lumine), as well as showing a few opportunities to suggest it's not unrequited.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Some of her moves are inspired by Vergil. Most notably, her charged attack, a single slash that turns into several smaller slashes in front of her, is performed in a way that resembles Vergil's Judgement Cut in the Special Edition of Devil May Cry 4.
    • Many of her other animations and general design look inspired by Weiss Schnee from RWBY. Her character demo has camera angles that look straight out of Weiss' short.
  • Spell Blade: Kamisato Art: Senho temporarily fuses Ayaka's regular attacks with Cryo after ending her sprint.
  • Status Buff:
    • Her first-ascension passive, Amatsumi Kunitsumi Sanctification, adds a 30% Attack boost to her normal and charged attacks for six seconds after using Kamisato Art: Hyouka.
    • Her fourth-ascension passive, Kanten Senmyou Blessing, boosts her Cryo Damage Bonus by 18% for ten seconds should she hit an enemy at the end of Kamisato Art: Senho, in addition to restoring 10 stamina points.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Both she and her brother Ayato inherited their parents' pale blue hair and eyes, as seen from the ''Tsubaki in Thawing Snow'' trailer.
  • Think Nothing of It: Played for Drama in her Story Quest. When learning of a merchant who had his wares stolen, Ayaka offers to help him not in an official capacity, but on her own; however, despite her Badass Boast that she wouldn't care what the Kanjou Commission would say if they saw her, she asks the marchant to keep it confidential, due to her insecurity her actions would reflect on the reputation of her clan and the Yashiro Commission. Even after the merchant offers to repay her with silk, Ayaka denies, and offers to purchase the silk at its full price.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: The Girly Girl to Yoimiya's Tomboy. Despite her love for adventures, Ayaka is much more outward girly, traditional-looking and demure compared to the less conservative and more warm and energetic Yoimiya.
  • True Blue Femininity: Ayaka's outfit has a primarily blue color scheme, which helps to accentuate her status as the Ojou of Inazuma.
  • Upgrade Artifact: A variant—her third and fifth Constellation upgrades, Frostbloom Kamifubuki and Blossom Cloud Irutsuki, increase the talent levels of, respectively, Kamisato Art: Soumetsu and Kamisato Art: Hyouka by three.
  • Vague Age: The story doesn't make it exactly clear what's Ayaka's age, though given her position as Inazuma's Ojou and how she mentions taking over the responsibilities of the Yashiro Commission at a young age alongside her brother, it can be implied Ayaka could be on her late teens.
  • Warrior Poet: Poetry is one of her hobbies, along with dancing and the likes. Her quotes includes poems from Kokin Wakashū and Man'yōshū.
  • Weapon Specialization: During her Character quest she wields a Mistsplitter Reforged, but in all other promotional material uses Amenoma Kageuchi, an Inazuman sword shaped like a katana.
    • The former's substat of Critical Damage (to a maximum of 44.1% at Level 90) makes it geared towards Ayaka's natural growth in the same stat, complemented by the "Mistplitter's Edge" passive which, at its fifth and final refinement, adds a 24% bonus to all kinds of elemental damage and bestows up to three stacks of "Mistsplitter's Emblem" that add a 16/32/56% damage boost to the wielder's innate element (i.e., Cryo for Ayaka) whenever her normal attacks deal elemental damage, she casts her Elemental Burst, or while her Energy is not full (the former two stack conditions last five and ten seconds, respectively). While the latter two conditions seem paradoxical, the Frostflake Seki no To lingers for a few seconds, thus she automatically earns two stacks throughout its duration.
    • The latter's substat of Attack percentage (to a maximum of 55.1% at Level 90) makes it geared to make Ayaka hit harder and allow her to unleash her Burst sooner, with its "Iwakura Succession" passive, at its fifth and final refinement, granting her up to three stacks of "Succession Seed," which are gained (within at least five seconds) whenever she uses Elemental Skills and last until either after thirty seconds or they are consumed whenever she uses her Elemental Burst to restore 12 Energy per stack after a two-second delay.
  • Yamato Nadeshiko: Apart from her silver hair (instead of black, as per tradition), Ayaka almost entirely fits the bill of a traditional Japanese beauty (befitting Inazuma's Japanese cultural aesthetic)—light-skinned, graceful, demure, sweet, polite and skilled in theatrical and martial arts.

Fantastical Evening Star
"Even when we're not looking up at the stars, they're always there, watching over us."

Rarity: 4★
Birthday: December 19
Element: Cryo
Weapon: Sword
Model: Medium Female
Constellation: Luscinia, the Nightingale
Specialty Dish: Extravagant Slumber (Rose Custard)
Normal Attack: Sword of the Radiant Path
Elemental Skill: Nights of Formal Focus
Elemental Burst: Dream of the Star-Stream Shaker
Utility Passive: Shadowy Dream-Signs (10% chance to craft Character Talent Materials twice)
Affiliation: The Akademiya

A student of the Rtawahist Darshan who specializes in theoretical astrology and draws star charts tirelessly in order to write her thesis even at the cost of being often sleep-deprived. Born to a family of Sumpter Beast ranchers north of Sumeru City, her intellect has caught the attention of the Akademiya, only to find its culture exhausting; nevertheless, she pushes on, even to the detriment of her wellbeing, to make her family proud.

Sleepy as she is, Layla is far from defenseless, with her fighting style simultaneously providing defense and slowly whittling down the opposition. Her Elemental Skill, Nights of Normal Focus, blows away surrounding enemies with a burst of cold wind and summons a "Curtain of Slumber" around the active character, a Cryo-elemental shield that accumulates "Night Stars" either gradually or whenever the character uses Elemental Skills, which will then turn to "Shooting Stars" that home in on enemies once four Stars have been gathered. Her Elemental Burst, Dream of the Star-Stream Shaker, summons a "Celestial Dreamsphere," a phantasmal device consisting of a sphere surrounded by four stars which launch "Starlight Slugs" that home in on surrounding enemies, with successful hits generating Night Stars if the Curtain of Slumber is also active.

As Layla continues to work hard in her thesis, the Curtain of Slumber gains stacks of "Deep Sleep" in conjunction with Night Stars, which increase the active character's Shield Strength percentage, and Shooting Stars gain a damage boost based on a fraction of Layla's Max HP. Once she learns to overcome her weaknesses, Layla gains the ability to conjure a less potent form of the Curtain of Slumber on her allies at the same time she casts one on herself, in addition to a boost to their damage absorption; Shooting Stars gain the ability to restore some of Layla's Energy whenever they hit enemies, as well as bestow upon the party the "Dawn Star" effect to increase the damage potency of their normal and charged attacks based on a fraction of Layla's Max HP, in addition to a boost to its damage potency (as well as of Starlight Slugs) and accerated charging of Night Stars.

Layla can be obtained from any banner.
  • The Ace: Layla is an intelligent, popular, attractive, well-respected student who gets top marks at the most prestigious institute of learning in Teyvat and can literally write academic reports in her sleep. Played for Laughs insofar that she's not even aware of her more improbable feats such as her hundred-thousand-word essay or scaling the Wall of Samiel, due to sleeping through most of them. In the "Fabulous Fungi Frenzy" limited-time event, she proves skilled at fungi training as well, making it to the semifinals where she meets the Foregone Conclusion of having to go up against you.
  • Achievements in Ignorance: Ordinarily, she has trouble completing her thesis while awake. When sleeping though, she is surprisingly capable of writing complete reports with no problems.
  • All the Other Reindeer: One branch of Layla's Hangout Event tree reveals that her lack of social skills and unintentional social avoidance, combined with her untidy look and tendency to complain about schoolwork, has rubbed several peers the wrong way, who feel that the way she presents herself isn't representative of her ability. The confusion is made worse by her classmates being unaware that the "star's blessing" is assisting her in finishing her work.
  • Ambiguously Human: Layla appears to possess pointed ears similarly to Nahida and Klee, although they go unacknowledged in her Character Stories.
  • Anime Hair: While most of the playable cast are given somewhat plausible hairstyles, Layla's is downright ridiculous. Her hair turns a lighter shade of blue as it goes down to the end, her twintails spiral into drills halfway down, and she even has streaks in her bangs shaped like stars.
  • Astrologer: She's studying to be an astrologist like Mona. However, her field of study is only theoretical astrology, and she doesn't seem to possess the same scrying powers that Mona does.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: One of Layla's strengths that she does have confidence in is her powers of observation, which is useful to her study of theoretical astrology where she often has to make complex calculations of the movements of the stars. In addition, during the Akademiya Extravaganza "Star's Blessing" Layla noticed Kaveh's Stepford Smiler tendencies after "Daylight" Layla simply has one conversation with him.
  • Baby Of The Bunch: Among the playable characters associated with the Akademiya, Layla is not only implied to be the youngest as the only current student, but is also mentally the least sure of herself as "Daylight" Layla, as demonstrated in the "Parade of Providence" limited-time event, when she continuously receives advice from the other Interdarshan Championship contestants on dealing with her anxiety as well as the weight of expectations.
  • Badass Adorable: Layla is a cute and friendly, if frequently sleepy, girl who is also blessed with decent swordsmanship skills and a Cryo Vision.
  • Badass Bookworm: Layla is an academic blessed with Super-Strength and a Cryo vision, allowing her to fight monsters.
  • Barrier Warrior: Nights of Formal Focus summons the Curtain of Slumber, a Cryo-elemental shield that generates a Night Stars that transform into homing Shooting Stars once four are collected. Layla's first-ascension passive, Like Nascent Light, bestows stacks of Deep Sleep, which gradually increases the active character's Shield Strength by 6% for each Night Star generated (to a maximum of 24%) which will linger on until the Curtain disappears; her first Constellation upgrade, Fortress of Fantasy, increases its Shield Absorption by 20%, as well as grants her the ability to generate the Curtain for multiplayer allies, with damage absorption worth 35% of hers (though sharing its twelve-second-long duration and 250% efficiency against Cryo-elemental attacks).
  • Big Damn Heroes: One routes in Layla's Hangout Event tree revealed that she saved a family from being robbed by Treasure Hoarders by running off to get help, which scared the thieves off, although for a while she didn't realize that she helped them because they were gone by the time she returned.
  • Big Ol' Eyebrows: Layla has noticeably thicker eyebrows than most of the other female characters, as a sign of her poor self-care. Her chibi art and emotes make them far more obvious.
  • Blessed with Suck: How she views the "Star's Blessing" due to it contributing to her lack of confidence in her abilities.
  • Born Unlucky:
    • Her Hangout Event tree reveals that she has had terrible luck since enrolling in the Akademiya, first losing the good-luck charm her mother gave her, which caused her to develop her sleep disorder, then nearly dying while fleeing some Rishboland Tigers, and finally accruing debt due to accidentally damaging some of Akademiya's equipment. Dori also swindled her of her scholarship funds, forcing her to live on cheap vegetables for an entire year.
    • This is averted in the event "A Parade of Providence", as she was able to complete each round due to pure luck and circumstance.
  • Broken Ace: An interestingly presented example, in that Layla's flaws and worries are more obvious than her strengths. Layla sees herself as a perpetually tired, poor, indecisive student with poor social skills who's just lucky to have the "Star's Blessing" and is not actually good at writing papers. Her peers and teachers, on the other hand, think she's a highly talented genius. In one ending of her Hangout Event tree, "Star's Blessing" Layla bluntly tells the Traveler that she doesn't actually possess any knowledge that "Daylight" Layla does not; she just represents what Layla would be capable of if she wasn't such a Nervous Wreck.
  • Character Development: At the beginning of her participation in the Interdarshan Championship, she struggled with anxiety over the pressure of performing well and meeting the expectations of her peers from the Rtawahist Darshan, and felt lost due to a lack of a goal to work towards. After a chat with Tighnari and Cyno and thinking over their advice, she strives to perform well for her own desire to live up to the expectations of those who support her, and becomes significantly more relaxed.
  • Color Motif: While she is never seen in the standard uniform of the Akademiya, her default outfit incorporates the deep blue color of her Darshan.
  • Country Mouse: She was raised by Sumpter Beast ranchers in the more remote northern lands of Sumeru, and doesn't call her family for help with any of her woes because she wants them to think she's adjusting to city life well.
  • Cute Bookworm: Spends most of her time either sleeping, studying, reading, doing classwork, or drawing star charts, not necessarily one at a time. Though she's more on the unkempt side compared to Sucrose.
  • The Cutie: Most of the Akademiya personnel in Sumeru seem to consist of stuck-up elitists, and even most of its playable cast tend to have some serious character flaws (e.g., Alhaitham is too rational to the point of being insufferable, Cyno is too serious and intimidating when on the job, Faruzan can be prideful and very touchy about her youthful appearance, and Kaveh's good heart belies his emotional baggage). Layla, on the other hand, is a breath of fresh air for being an incredibly adorable and friendly girl who, despite her timidity and insecurities, is one of the few bright spots in the modern Akademiya.
  • A Day in the Limelight: The "Fabulous Fungus Frenzy" limited-time event not only serves as her official introduction, but also gives a little insight into her character.
  • Delicate and Sickly: The "Fabulous Fungus Frenzy" event revealed that rather than being an overworked student like many of her fellow peers, Layla's a Sleepyhead because of a condition that causes her to become tired much more easily than the average person. Even the minimal labor that is expected of a scholar like putting away books exhausts her. Sure enough, the Traveler ultimately had to help her capture all the Fungi she needs to compete in the tournament. Just catching one Fungi (out of four) left her totally beat.
  • Determinator:
    • Layla continues to pursue knowledge in the Akademiya regardless of the mental and physical stress attending has placed on her. She's even said to have outlasted many students who had enrolled in the same year as her.
    • While "Daylight" Layla rarely argues with others, she once found her confidence when a Herbad slighted her and her classmates due to his conservative position on Theoretical Astrology, leading her to challenge his opinion. When the Herbad gave her his refutation, rather than give up as most students before she had, Layla continued this exchange of debates with him over several months. In time, the Herbad conceded to Layla's point and praised her for being one of the few students who dared to challenge him academically. Her perseverance in pursuit of knowledge and the truth is what gained her a Cryo Vision.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Not in person, but in writing. A number of the purchasable furnishings in the Serenitea pot available before her release in the second half of v3.2, such as "Like an Omen of Daybreak" and "Like the Encircling Eventide," are implied to have been written from her point of view.
  • Elemental Hair Colors: Downplayed, as only the tips of her twintails have the light cyan associated with Cryo.
  • Exhausted Eyebags: It's very subtle in her character art, but looking closely at her in-game model shows that she has bags under her eyes, as a side effect of her lack of sleep.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: She has white, catlike pupils in her otherwise golden eyes.
  • Expository Pronoun: In the Japanese dub, Layla's pronoun when addressing herself changes depending on which "mode" she's in. "Daylight" Layla uses the formal, gender-neutral watashi, whereas "Star's Blessing" Layla uses the informal, feminine atashi.
  • Fangirl: Adoration for Mona Megistus is common in the Rtawahist Darshan, but in her voice lines the Traveler points out that there seems to be something more to that of Layla.
  • Flip Personality: Played With. The "Star's Blessing" Layla that takes over when "Daylight Layla" is asleep is significantly more energetic, decisive, and confident in her abilities, allowing her to finish her homework with less worry, but as explained in her Character Story 5, both personalities are a part of Layla.
  • Friendless Background: She has few friends in her Darshan because she is hesitant to express her opinions, making her appear aloof or arrogant. As well, other playable Sumeru characters speak of her as though they are aware of her achievements but do not appear to know her personally, and vice versa for how she speaks of them. Her Hangout Event tree explains that she had numerous friends back home but hasn't seen them in a long time due to the demands of schoolwork.
  • Gathering Steam: Whenever the Curtain of Slumber is active, it will generate Night Stars, either one every 1.5 seconds or two whenever the active character uses their Elemental Skill (within 0.3-second intervals), as well as, if the Celestial Dreamsphere is also active, whenever Starlight Slugs hit enemies (within 0.5-second intervals). Once there are four, they are turned into Shooting Stars that strike at enemies one by one.
  • Good Luck Charm: In one branch of her Hangout Event tree, Layla explains that as a child, her mother gave her a talisman which she believes was her good-luck charm when she was selected to enroll in the Akademiya. However, she lost it while running away from Avidya Leopards, and her sleep disorder developed soon after. In one ending, however, it's possible for her to get it back, gifted by "Star's Blessing" Layla as a reward for her hard work in facing her issues.
  • Homing Projectile: Shooting Stars and Starlight Slugs home in on enemies. Her fourth-ascension passive, Sweet Slumber Undisturbed, further increases the damage potency of the former based on 1.5% of her Max HP, while her sixth Constellation upgrade, Radiant Soulfire, increase the damage potency of both by 40%, in addition to a 20% reduction to the interval time between generating Night Stars necessary to fire off the former (i.e., from 1.5 seconds to 1.2).
  • Humble Heroine: Upon first meeting her in the "Fabulous Fungi Frenzy" limited-time event, Layla introduces herself to the Traveler and Paimon as a mere student of the Rtawahist Darshan with no special titles, despite her reputation amongst her peer for her intellect. This is the first indication of her insecurity regarding her competence.
  • An Ice Person: Her Vision is Cryo, and she's the second Cryo user who can generate an ice shield.
  • Idle Animation: In addition to her two standard standby animations, Layla has a third in the form of her Elemental Skill, which allows her to sleep if the player does not move her after it is activated.
  • Inseries Nickname: She's gained a number of nicknames since enrolling in the Akademiya, such as "the Sleepwalking Eccentric," "the Human Calculator," and "the Heaven-Sent Thesis."
  • Insufferable Genius: "Star's Blessing" Layla often includes harsh critiques of her fellow students' theories, which shocks everyone else since "Daylight" Layla is normally extremely polite and nonconfrontational when she's awake.
  • Invisible Parents: Her family is mentioned numerous times, but they're never met in person since Layla doesn't want to rely on them to make it through her academic career.
  • Jack of All Stats: Layla's playstyle has a defensive focus, but she has well-rounded stats either way.
  • Meaningful Name: "Layla" (ليلى) is Arabic for "night," befitting how she is most active at night as well as her fascination with astrology.
  • Minored in Ass-Kicking: A notable aversion. Whereas almost every other character appears to be a trained combatant even if their occupation wouldn't ordinarily require combat training, note  Layla's normal and charged attacks, which both leave her winded at the end and has her use both hands to swing a one-handed sword, suggests that she's not a trained fighter. Her Hangout Event tree addresses this by explaining that her lack of sleep makes her feel weaker when fighting, which would also explain the lack of coordination during her attacks.
  • Mirror Character: To Mona. Both are brilliant, but extremely poor astrologers who must survive off of scant food and lament how poor they are. The difference is Mona is haughty and self-confident, while Layla is a Shrinking Violet.
  • Money Dumb: Perhaps out of desperation due to her sleep disorder, she purchased super-effective Sleep Gummies from Dori for 200,000 Mora per box with her scholarship and savings money, leaving her broke and forced to live on cheap vegetables for the next year. Even after telling the Traveler this, she considers purchasing more from Dori if they are "buy one, get two free."
  • Mundane Utility: Her goal in the "Fabulous Fungus Frenzy" event is simply to get into the quarterfinals so that she can take her "shroom buddies" home with her and have them do various grunt work that's too exhausting for her to do.
  • Near-Death Experience: During one branch of her Hangout Event tree, Layla explains that she was attacked by a pack of Avidya Leopards; by the time she was rescued by an Eremite band that passed by, she lost the talisman her mother had given her when she was little, and her sleep disorder developed soon after.
  • Nice Girl:
    • Layla is far more polite and humble than most of her Akademiya colleagues (made all the more remarkable by the fact that she shares the same Darshan as Azar), provided that you don't catch her in "Star's Blessing" mode. In the "Fabulous Fungi Frenzy" event, she joins the Traveler in trying to teach Haniyyah the importance of treating her fungi with love, and her match with them is treated as a friendly spar compared to the Traveler's opponents.
    • Her third character story explains that, unlike the conservatives in the Akademiya, she respects and admires the arts and the trades of people who work on the streets for a living.
  • Non-Uniform Uniform: Currently, Layla is the only playable character in the cast that actively attends the Akademiya as a student, as Lisa, Alhaitham, Tighnari, Kaveh, and Cyno are all graduates, and Faruzan is a professor under her Darshan; however, she is the only member of her Darshan, as well as the only important student in the Akademiya, that wears an outfit that doesn't resemble the standard uniform worn by other students, though there are a few design elements in common that put it as being "close enough," such as the blue-and-gold Color Motif.
  • Perpetual Frowner: Downplayed; Layla is rarely seen smiling as "Daylight" Layla and her Kamera expressions are "Disappointed," which is Layla looking sad, and "Pensive," which isn't all that different from her neutral expression. As "Star's Blessing," however, Layla tends to smile more.
  • Perpetual Poverty: She blew all of her scholarship funds buying sleep gummies from Dori, and has been surviving off of cheap vegetables since, and can only afford textbooks when they're on sale. One of her emotes even depicts her crying over how poor she is.
  • Plucky Girl: For all her lack of confidence, Layla has impressive work ethic. She's pushed through with her studies where most of her batchmates have dropped out, and when an established scholar harshly criticized one of her papers, she engaged the other scholar in heated debate until the latter realized there was a flaw in the established teachings, and the determination she showed earned Layla her Cryo Vision.
  • Prone to Tears: Poor Layla is prone to sobbing a bit in some of her voice-overs, over the pressure of her work and the inability to sleep well.
  • Regenerating Mana: Her second Constellation upgrade, Light's Remit, restores 1 Energy for each Shooting Star that connects.
  • Scholarship Student: She spent her scholarship allowance on Dori's expensive Sleep Gummies, and is worried about failing her final exams because she would have return the money.
  • Sexy Backless Outfit: Her top is cut low on both sides, putting the top half of her back on display.
  • Shaping Your Attacks: In her third normal attack, she creates a star and bats it at the enemy with her sword.
  • Shrinking Violet: Her social skills are said to be lacking because she is hesitant to express her opinions to her peers, which makes her appear aloof and arrogant to them.
  • Single-Issue Psychology: In the "Matter of Course" ending of Layla's Hangout Event tree, the Traveler helps Layla overcome her self-confidence issues and she realizes that she won't need the "Star's Blessing" from now on, believing that she can overcome all presented obstacles now on her own without relying on others.
  • Sleepyhead: Much like Ganyu and Sayu but to an even greater extent, as she is perpetually tired due to what she describes as a "congenital sleep condition" that developed soon after she entered the Akademiya.
  • Sleepwalking: If the rumors Tighnari shares with you about her are true, she's downright superhuman when she's asleep. She can effortlessly pump out college papers thousands of words long, once scaled the Wall of Samiel with her bare hands, and evidently gains Super-Strength. Small wonder she's so exhausted all the time if this is the kind of stuff her body makes her do while she's sleeping.
  • Sliding Scale of Gameplay and Story Integration:
    • Nights of Formal Focus has Layla create a Cryo-elemental shield to sleep in, only waking when the shield ends or if the player gives any input. Said shield, the Curtain of Slumber, periodically generates Night Stars and fires them at enemies as Shooting Stars once four are gathered. In keeping with how competent she is when asleep, Layla can literally defeat enemies in her sleep.
    • One of Layla's woes is the overwhelming amount of papers she has to write. With her utility passive having a chance to double the output when creating talent books, poor Layla gets even less slack.
    • At the end of her normal attack string, Layla visibly stops to catch her breath, alluding to her poor stamina.
  • Split Personality: Get her friendship level high enough, and it's revealed that "Star's Blessing" Layla is a full-blown split personality that takes control either whenever "Daylight" Layla is asleep or, as some of her Hangout Event branches show, she blacks out from excessive anxiety. Unlike "Daylight" Layla, "Star's Blessing" Layla is fully aware of her alternate personality's existence, but doesn't seem to mind being the submissive of the two.
  • Star Power: Befitting her specialization in astrology and her sleepiness, Layla is associated with stars, reflected in her ability to generate stars that are then fired off to enemies.
  • Starving Student: She was forced to live on cheap vegetables for a year after squandering her scholarship funds and saved up money on super-effective sleep gummies. Her Paimon's Painting emote also suggests that she has little mora to live off of.
  • Status Buff: Her fourth Constellation upgrade, Starry Illumination, casts the Dawn Star effect on her allies whenever Shooting Stars are fired, which increases the potency of their next normal or charged attack used within three seconds based on 5% of Layla's Max HP.
  • Supernatural Gold Eyes: She has gold eyes, and on top of being an astrologist like Mona, something is seriously off with Layla, given her bouts of "sleepwalking" where her personality flips and she becomes capable of performing arduous academic tasks as if she's simply signing a form.
  • Support Party Member: Layla's fighting style revolves around empowering the active character with a shield, while both of her Elemental Talents create a continuous stream of Cryo application for Melt, Freeze, or Superconduct reactions.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: While she ultimately didn't win the Interdarshan Championship, she still did well enough that her classmates are more than impressed with her as they shower her with praise.
  • Tomato in the Mirror: One route of her Hangout Event involves her seeking out the mysterious "Wisdom Seelie" for guidance on completing her thesis. In two out of the three possible endings to this route, it's revealed that Layla—or rather, her "Star's Blessing" selfis the Wisdom Seelie.
  • Unexpected Gameplay Change: Layla's Hangout Event is unusual compared to others in that the usual Relationship Values meter is instead replaced with one that measures Layla's anxiety levels, with the Traveler's goal during the quest being to keep it at manageable levels as she works on her thesis. If you let it max out however, "Star's Blessing" Layla will come out to play.
  • Unkempt Beauty: Layla certainly looks like someone who spends most of their time either sleeping or studying—her hair is messy and disheveled, her eyes have Exhausted Eye Bags, and she's developed pale skin from being indoors for so long. None of this holds her back from being portrayed as just as attractive as the rest of the playable cast.
  • Upgrade Artifact: A variant—her third and fifth Constellation upgrades, Secrets of the Night and Stream of Consciousness, increase the talent levels of, respectively, Nights of Formal Focus and Dream of the Star-Stream Shaker by three.
  • Wake-Up Call Boss: For the "Fabulous Fungi Frenzy" event, where she is the second-to-last opponent. Unlike previous opponents, Layla is well-equipped to hit your team hard with her Anemo shrooms to gather them together, her Electro shroom to buff attack, and her Cryo shroom to nuke the whole batch at once with a mass Superconduct. If you haven't learned to use the lock-on mechanic to prioritize targets or have simply been neglecting training your shrooms, Layla will take you to school.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Layla hates bugs. Not because she's afraid of them, but because they're always buzzing around her room at night and making it difficult for her to sleep or concentrate on her work. And since the eastern half of Sumeru is basically one giant rainforest, winter isn't coming to drive the population away anytime soon.

A renowned diver for the Court of Fontaine, and younger brother to magician duo Lyney and Lynette.
  • The Ace: He's a diver that is described as being renowned for his outstanding professionalism, exceptional ability to stay focused, as well as his abundant maritime knowledge.
  • Dude Looks Like a Lady: Like his older brother Lyney, Freminet could be easily mistaken for a girl at first glance.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Appeared in the Overture Teaser: The Final Feast alongside the other members of the Fontaine cast prior to his release as a playable character.
  • Hiding Behind Your Bangs: He has an aloof personality and has bangs that covers his left eye.
  • An Ice Person: He has a Cryo Vision.
  • Meaningful Appearance: Freminet wears a top that resembles a Sailor Fuku, which was inspired by European naval uniforms, over his stylized diving suit.
  • Meaningful Name: He's a diver whose name is likely derived from Sieur Freminet, the Frenchman who invented the first self-contained air device, the rebreather.
  • No Social Skills: In comparison to his famous siblings, he prefers to avoid the spotlight due to social anxiety, giving others the impression that he is indifferent.
  • Personality Powers: He has Cryo Vision and is a classic lone wolf, with a lack of social skills that comes across as indifference to others.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Downplayed Trope. He's the younger brother of Lyney and Lynette, though the resemblance isn't as striking as it is between those two, who look like twins. In comparison to Lyney and Lynette's ash blonde hair and varying shades of purple eyes, his hair is a lighter shade of blonde, and his eyes are a purplish blue.
  • Successful Sibling Syndrome: Defied. While he's the younger brother of the famous magician duo Lyney and Lynette, and he has his own chance at fame due to his professionalism and wealth of knowledge about maritime life, he chooses to stay out of the spotlight due to social anxiety and preferring to be a lone wolf, even rejecting private commissions from people that could further his career.
  • Visual Pun: Freminet's character art portrays him wielding The Bell claymore. With Freminet being a diver, one could say that he is a diving bell user.
  • Youthful Freckles: Resembles a young boy and is the first playable character to have freckles.

"Everything I do is in the service of life, not death. That's why I'm here with you."

The protagonist of Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West, a huntress from an After the End Earth where Animal Mecha roam the lands and humanity has regressed to tribal and feudal communities.

Aloy, like the skilled huntress she is, is capable of utilizing scavenged technology in combat while still supporting her companions. Her Elemental Skill, Frozen Wilds, has Aloy throw a Freeze Bomb at her opponents, which explodes and splits into Chillwater Bomblets that explode upon contact with opponents or after a short delay. When a Freeze Bomb or Chillwater Bomblet hits an opponent, the oppenent's ATK is decreased and Aloy gains 1 Coil Stack, with each stack increasing Aloy's Normal Attack Damage; Gaining up to 4 Coil Stacks allows Aloy to enter the Rushing Ice state, in which her Normal Attacks are converted to Cryo Damage. Aloy launches a Cryo-infused Power Cell upon her opponents with her Elemental Burst, Prophecies of Dawn, then detonates it with her arrow, unleashing a chilly explosion that deals AoE Cryo Damage.

If her combat skills are further enchanced, Aloy gains the ability to increase her ATK and other nearby party members' ATK respectively by 16% and 8% for 10s, upon receiving the Coil effect from Frozen Wilds, and after entering the Rushing Ice state by using Frozen Wilds, Aloy's Cryo Damage Bonus is increased by 3.5% for every 1s, up to a maximum total increase of 35% to her Cryo Damage Bonus.

Aloy was available for free to PlayStation players that logged in during the 2.1 patch, and during the 2.2 patch for all other players.

For tropes specific to her character in the Horizon games, see here.
  • Adaptational Wimp: Unlike her home series counterpart, this Aloy doesn't come with a polearm/spear (her secondary weapon), instead she is exclusively a bow user which limits her playstyle to ranged combat only.
  • Boobs-and-Butt Pose: Her character art is posed in such a way as to show off her bust and backside as she draws a bow.
  • Crutch Character: Aloy has great stats and abilities and her Predator bow gives her a decent boost to her attack power. She doesn't have constellation upgrades as of version 3.0 though, so her damage hits a wall that other characters can get through with enough upgrades.
  • Doing in the Scientist: While in Aloy's own game, her Freeze Bombs were high tech Elemental Weapons, here Aloy appears to create them using a Vision like some other characters, as one can be seen strapped to her hip.
  • Do Well, But Not Perfect: The effect of Chillwater Bomblets granting Coil Stacks has a small internal cooldown, making getting her Rushing Ice buff tricky since the bombs can't all explode too fast. It also locks her out of synergies with characters like Kazuha who have strong vacuums that can bunch all the bomblets up, since they'd all explode at once and only grant one or two stacks.
  • Guest Fighter: She's from Sony's Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West originally.
  • Hero of Another Story: Has already gone through the events of Horizon: Zero Dawn and saved her own world before somehow winding up in Teyvat.
  • An Ice Person: She has the Cryo element in Genshin. Interestingly, ice is just another element in Aloy's toolkit back in her home franchise but in Teyvat, Cryo is deeply associated with outcasts and loners and, coincidentally, Aloy was one of those back in the post-apocalypse Earth.
  • The Knights Who Say "Squee!": It's downplayed due to her serious nature, but Aloy's voice lines and Friendship conversations show that she finds Teyvat's diversity of culture and wildlife fascinating. She even at one point jokes that she'd like to see Sylens try — and fail — to figure out the Adeptal magic behind the Teapot.
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: While it doesn't go into detail, her story entries and voice lines make reference to events and important story beats of Horizon: Zero Dawn.
  • Magitek: Her Elemental Skill and Burst have her throwing the Freeze Bombs from her home game, crafted from scavenging Machines, only here they're infused with Cryo energy.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: Despite being from a game with photorealistic character designs, Aloy's design in this game fits the anime style of other characters.
