Administration Counter Academy

    As a group

    Academy Senior Student
Voiced by: KR: Yeo Minjung JP:
Rarity: N
Subtitle: Training Operator
Command Skill: Basic Encouragement (Defender > Striker > Ranger)
"Thank you for this chance to experience the field, Boss."
A senior student of the Operator Training Institute.
  • Com Mons: She's one of the only two N-rarity Operators.

    Allen Birmingham
The principal of the Administration Counter Academy.

He first appears in Episode 6.
  • Evil All Along: He is actually one of the Knights of Redemption, and he used his Brainwashing powers to hide himself and Ray in the Counter Academy to root out Mina.
  • Walking Spoiler: He has a more active role than Episode 6 suggests.

    Brownie Moore
Voiced by: KR: Sung Yewon JP: Rika Nagae
Type: Soldier
Role: Supporter
Rarity: SR
"Where there's a challenge, there's a classroom!"

A teacher at the Counter Academy, and a former Counterside adventurer.

    Eins & Zwei
Voiced by: KR: Lee Eunjo JP: Sayuri Hara
Type: Counter
Role: Striker
Rarity: SSR
Team: Jehuty Biotech
"We're here, Brother." "Let's have some fun with everyone!"

A pair of twins who share the same Counter Watch.

They're the protagonists of First Lesson and debuted as a Counter Pass unit.
  • Big Ball of Violence: Their ultimate summons all eight of their sisters to dogpile the enemy in a huge cloud of dust.
  • The Dividual: Jehuty Biotech advertised them as successful clones, but they're actually just twins sharing the same Watch. They also gain buffs while both are out on the field. That said, Zwei and her eight younger twin sisters are clones of Eins, but they're using fake Watches because Jehuty Biotech was unable to also clone Eins' Watch (through which she's sharing her power with her sisters).
  • Flawed Prototype: Jehuty Biotech may have successfully cloned Eins nine times, but they were unable to do the same with her Watch. As such, Eins has to split her CRF ten ways, leaving her extremely low on energy when the CEO finally found her and Zwei. The company dismisses this as a mere "defect" and offers to recall the pair, but the CEO puts his foot down and rounds up the remaining eight instead.
  • Identical Twin ID Tag: Eins and Zwei wear their hair in different styles, with Eins having smaller side pigtails while Zwei has long pigtails. Additionally, Eins has Tsurime Eyes and a pink glow around her sword, while Zwei has Tareme Eyes and a cyan glow on hers.
  • Jack of All Stats: A strong well-rounded unit that gets buffed when both are out at the same time.
  • Massive Numbered Siblings: They have eight younger sisters, and "First Lesson" shows the CEO "negotiating" with Jehuty Biotech to reunite all ten of them under the Coffin Company. The twins' Ultimate shows all ten of them fighting together.
  • Parental Abandonment: Eins' parents, who were rebels of Gronia, sold her to Jehuty Biotech the moment they saw her Watch. As for her younger sisters, they obviously don't have parents since they're clones of Eins.
  • Ruritania: They hail from the fictional war-torn European country of Gronia, same as Gaeun. The CEO muses that he has some sort of destiny with the place. This also sets off a massive red flag for him, as given its current state there's no way Gronia has the technology to clone humans by themselves.
  • Sword Beam: Their Special is described as them shooting spirit swords.
  • You Are Number 6: 'Eins' and 'Zwei' are German for 'one' and 'two'. In "For the Uncrying" Eins also mentions Drei (German for 'three'), and the data files on the twins' swimsuit skin confirm that their other sisters are also named after German numbers four through tennote.
  • Your Days Are Numbered: Implied. During the CEO's "negotiation" with Jehuty Biotech, he points out that the twins (and in turn their eight sisters) are bound to turn into Shadows at any moment. Rayleigh and Laura also sensed that Eins and Zwei were "extremely low on mana", but Laura tells Yuna not to worry because "they've already met someone who can help them".

    Lucid
Voiced by: KR: Choi Jungyoon JP: Eri Ozeki
Type: Counter
Role: Sniper, Ranger (Hansel), Striker (Gretel)
Rarity: SR
Team: Jehuty Biotech
"Finally, I see you. Oh, sorry, you've never met me before. My name is Lucid. I'd like you to call me that."
A survivor of a cruel experiment by Jehuty Biotech that gave her telepathic abilities.

She is the protagonist of Hearing You, and she also appears in For the Uncrying.

  • Badass Transplant: Her ability to control Corrupted Objects was implanted in her by Jehuty Biotech.
  • The Beastmaster: She can communicate with and command Corrupted Objects, due to Jehuty's experimentation. Most of her abilities as a unit revolve around supporting her Corrupted Object pets in battle.
  • Dreaming of Things to Come: Though her bio mentions that her telepathy is incomplete compared to the Nanahara Family Alliance's "ability to hear the voice of wind", Lucid's dreams seem to be prophetic. Her goal in "Hearing You" is to travel down I-50 because her dreams told her she'd meet a girl from her past there; in the event's climax, Gaeun rescues her from Jehuty Biotech spies posing as Administration officials, and recognizes her by the doll Gaeun used to have back then.
Lucid: Sometimes I get clues from my dreams.
  • Dream Weaver: Her telepathic abilities allow her to also share memories with others, including dreams. Gaeun dreams about their imprisonment in Gronia because of her, with the CEO noticing that being able to see her surroundings means the dreams were not her memories since she was blind at the time.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: She's the "big sister" that Eins and Zwei wanted to see again in First Lesson.
  • Martial Pacifist: She doesn't like hurting people and will avoid killing, but her ability to command C.O.s means it's still not a good idea to pick a fight with her.
  • Sense Loss Sadness: Downplayed. As a side effect of Jehuty Biotech's experiments on her, she lost both her sense of taste and her ability to feel pain, but she mentions it with a wistful tone than an upset one.
  • Summon Magic: Her Passive summons Hansel and Gretel, two unique blue versions of the Wraith (a Ranger with Flight) and Biter (a ground Striker) C.O.s, respectively.
  • These Hands Have Killed: Discussed, and ultimately defied. In For the Uncrying, she offers to join Horizon on her manhunt for the CEO of Jehuty Biotech who has wronged them, her students (Eins, Zwei, and their sisters), and countless others, but Horizon asks her whether she could hold her students with bloodied hands. After a pause, she realizes that she couldn't do it, and accepts spending her remaining time for her students' sake as she lets Horizon go.
  • Your Days Are Numbered: Jehuty Biotech's experiments on her body have drastically shortened her lifespan to a few years at best, even after Machine G.A.P. had some of the damage repaired. She accepts this gracefully, choosing to spend whatever time she has left by her sisters' side.

    Ray S.
A student in the Administration Counter Academy who has difficulty graduating due to his pacifism.

He is a supporting ally in Episode 6.

  • Evil All Along: He is actually Nehemoth, the main antagonist of the second main arc.
  • Walking Spoiler: He has a more active role than Episode 6 suggests.

Team Ironsteel

    Naielle Bluesteel
Voiced by: KR: Yeonji Bang JP: Ai Kakuma
Type: Counter
Role: Striker
Rarity: SSR
"Are you the one in charge? Come on! This noble garbage is paying a visit to your humble company. Now show me how much you appreciate it, hurry!"
The second-strongest fighter in the Administration Counter Academy behind Yen Xing Lanchester. After a certain "pep talk", she self-proclaims herself as garbage while fighting with three swords.

She first appears in Episode 6, and she's a supporting character in "A Wish that You Don't Know", Episode 7, and "Creed of the Yaksa".

  • Bratty Half-Pint: Her bragging annoys her classmates.
  • Bully Turned Buddy: Her debut scene in Episode 6 is her bullying Mika and Ray, but from Episode 7 onwards she comes to see Mika as a friend. Her antagonism towards Ray is implied to have been caused by Allen Birmingham's hypnosis, which was mainly done to conceal him and Ray infiltrating the Counter Academy.
  • Bungled Hypnotism: In the midst of a C.O. attack, Mika hypnotizes her to psyche her up so she can fight back after getting trounced by a Category 3 and falling into a Heroic BSoD. It's noted as having a particularly profound impact on her behavior, making her even more blindly arrogant and lacking in common sense than before, and due to being Weak-Willed to begin with, the changes lasted far longer than Mika intended. Her climactic scene with Mika in Episode 7 reveals that she was faking it to cover up her fear.
  • Dumb Blonde: The main blonde in the Counter Academy, and her bravado comes with a significant lack of common sense.
  • Butt-Monkey: Is constantly this i the events she appears in. Even her Basic Skill description bullies her.
  • The Friend No One Likes: While her classmates tolerate her presence, they're not fond of her moments of bragging, and she's frequently the butt of many unfavorable comparisons.
  • Inferiority Superiority Complex: Her ego may be particularly inflated, but it's also extremely fragile. This is shown in Episode 6 and "A Wish that You Don't Know", where she goes into a Heroic BSoD after being beaten and begins moping about and saying very demeaning things about herself.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: In "Administration Complete", she tricks her fellow Fenrir Squad applicant Noelle into dozing off (and potentially missing her interview with them). After Coffin Company gets blacklisted by the Administration, Naielle ends up being whisked away by the other applicants who no longer wanted to join them, while Noelle ends up becoming Fenrir Squad's newest member.
  • Limit Break: Call Blade Catastrophe.
  • Noblewoman's Laugh: Pulls one in her victory animation.
  • Ornamental Weapon: Played for laughs. She carries three swords because she saw it in a manga, but she can only handle using one at a time.
  • Reluctant Fanservice Girl: In her "I can't believe she's the Student President" skin, she tries on Yen Xing's dress to prove she can also be the President. What she fails to account for is the differences in body type, leaving her showing off more than she was expecting.
  • Shout-Out: She carries three swords because she saw it in a cool manga once.
(Episode 6, 3-3 pre-battle) Yen Xing Lanchester: Apparently one of her favorite manga characters uses three swords.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: While she may be the second-strongest in the academy on the simulators, bragging about having killed a simulated Category 2 C.O. all by herself, her ego far outweighs her actual abilities. Her first encounter against a real-life Category 3 results in the monster no-selling her attacks entirely, reducing her to a cowering wreck who has to be bailed out by Mina. Even after the incident she still tries to lord her superiority over people like Mina and Seo Yoon, who have plenty of actual combat experience (though Mika's Bungled Hypnotism definitely contributed to that).
  • Storm of Blades: Her Ultimate summons ethereal swords around her enemy that slice all at once.
  • Unknown Rival: To Yen Xing and Mina. In "A Wish that You Don't Know", Seo Yoon invokes this on Naielle by flaunting her own official TASKFORCE status in front of an "A-M-A-T-E-U-R".
  • Weak-Willed: She's noted as being particularly easy to hypnotize. Episode 7 reveals that she has been invoking this ever since her first Dive in Episode 6.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: After getting her ass kicked by a Category 3 on her first real Dive, she develops a fear of C.O.s to the point where she sometimes freezes up in simulators. However, her stubborn pride means she can't bring herself to admit it to other people or get help with it.

    Aggro and Block
A pair of Grade D Counter students who mainly hang around Naielle.

They first appear in Episode 6, and they're supporting characters in "Creed of the Yaksa".

  • Cerebus Retcon: The reason they're Satellite Characters for Naielle? Their punishment for luring Ciel to Faust in "Creed of the Yaksa" is to be under campus arrest until graduation, since they believe they'll only cause trouble outside campus grounds.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: They gained their Watches while at an amusement park with their friends, but weren't able to save their friends even with their new powers. They were seeking the Elixir to stop feeling so powerless.
  • A Day in the Limelight: "Creed of the Yaksa" reveals more about them, especially how they became Naielle's lackeys.
  • Hidden Depths: They used to bring lunches to children at an orphanage every week. With them accepting their punishment of campus arrest, Naielle now does it in their stead.
  • Those Two Guys: They always appear in scenes together.
  • The Voice: They don't have NPC art.

Academy Student Council

    Yen Xing Lanchester
Voiced by: KR: Jung Hyewon JP: Yukiyo Fujii
Type: Counter
Role: Striker
Rarity: SSR
"On my way here, I saw many students who could use some guidance. As an honorary student of the Academy, I'll teach them as best as I can."
The Student President of the Administration Counter Academy, and the strongest Counter there. She is a supporting ally in Episodes 6 and 7, and she's a main character in "Creed of the Yaksa".
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: In the Global server, she first appears in A.R.S. Special Club Activity, which was the first Side Story event added after the server's launch.
  • Aloof Dark-Haired Girl: Being the strongest Counter in the school and the Student President, her strict upbringing makes her seem unapproachable, which causes her no small grief as she tries to be more social with her peers.
  • The Comically Serious: In an effort to be shown as a shining example of leadership, she tends to not notice jokes and answers quite literally.
  • Fragile Speedster: She has fast and wide attacks and can increase her evasion, but her defense is very weak and her only direct damage mitigation is her invulnerability on her Ultimate.
  • Limit Break: Ethereal Sword Dance.
  • No Dress Code: She wears a very low-cut and thin dress to show her fellow students that they are free to express whatever clothing they want, as permitted by the Counter Academy.
  • Status-Buff Dispel: She can dispel enemy buffs through both her basic attacks and her Special.

    Edith Twins
Voiced by: KR: Lee Myunghee JP:
Type: Counter
Role: Tower
Rarity: SSR
"I'm... a Student Guide... I think. Anyway, pleased to meet you, Boss."
The Administration Counter Academy's leading technological expert, Edith spends most of her time asleep, having her AI assistant J.O.U.R. doing most of her work.

She first appears in Episode 6.

  • Adaptational Early Appearance: In the Global server, she first appears in "A.R.S. Special Club Activity" due to that event being added before Episode 6.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: While her accomplishments aren't negligible, they're just a fraction of what she'd be capable of if she wasn't so sleepy all the time.
  • Cool Chair: Her hovering chair has a built-in AI to do her work for her, machine guns to ward off enemies, and missile launchers for anyone that wakes her up.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: When something involving tech needs to be done at the Academy, she's the one to call on.
  • Sleepyhead: Prone to dozing off. Even sleeping for 14 hours on end isn't enough to make her any less drowsy.
  • Split Personality: Has a violent personality if she gets forcibly awoken from her nap.
  • Turns Red: She starts out asleep and has the guns on her chair do the fighting, and only wakes up and starts using her abilities once her health drops low enough.

    Mika ★ Star
Voiced by: KR: Heo Yeeun JP: Reina Ueda
Type: Counter
Role: Supporter
Rarity: SSR
"Nice to meet you! I'm Mika★Star of the Student Council, charged with spreading hopes and dreams!"
A student of the Administration Counter Academy who aspires to be the greatest magician of the century, she represents the Academy's Counters who support noncombatism.

She first appears in Episode 6, and she's a supporting character in ''A Wish that You Don't Know", Episode 7, and "Creed of the Yaksa".

  • Balance Buff: An update gave her Passive the ability to remove Sleep on deployment, gave Skill Seal on her Special, and changed her Crit buff to an Attack buff.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: She can hypnotize herself into Mika ★ Apocalypse, with a Fist of the North Star-style face.
  • Master of None: Her kit can debuff, support, and deal damage... but only to a marginal amount compared to others with more specialized kits.
  • Say It with Hearts: Yes, the star is a part of her name.
  • Shout-Out: Mika ★ Apocalypse is a clear reference to Fist of the North Star, and she even mentions the Death Omen Star.
  • This Looks Like a Job for Aquaman: In Episode 7, her memorization of a dimensional transport ship helps Mina and Seo Yoon find the disguised engines in Arcadena.
  • Those Two Guys: Her scenes in Episode 6 are shared with Ray. In A Wish that You Don't Know and Episode 7, her scenes are shared with Naielle instead for two main reasons: Naielle seems to have become a victim of a Bungled Hypnotism, and Ray is revealed to be the main antagonist of the second main arc.

Role: Striker
Rarity: SSR
"I am Ciel, sect leader of Black East... and also a member of the Student Council at the Counter Academy. I am here to assist you and fill my volunteer quota."
The leader of the Black East assassin sect, and the newest member of the Counter Academy's Student Council.

She first appears in "Miracle of the Holy Night", and she is the protagonist of "Creed of the Yaksa".

  • Expy: To Hua Ran from the Korean webnovel I Killed the Player of the Academy. As for her name, it's likely a reference to Seele from Honkai Impact 3rd, whose design Hua Ran is based heavily off of.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Zigzagged. She's quite sharply dressed, but everything below the waist is quite scantily clad, with her Ultimate having her perform a high kick that bares quite a lot.

Special Hero Class

    Arti Lana
Voiced by: KR: Sung Yewon JP:
Type: Counter
Role: Sniper
Rarity: SR
"I've come to the conclusion that I need money to become the number one assistant! So here I am, ready to make some money!"
A young girl who founded the Counter Academy's Special Hero Class in order to achieve her dream of becoming an assistant suitable for the strongest hero.

She is a supporting ally in "A Wish that You Don't Know".

    Kaci Bins
Voiced by: KR: Choi Jungyoon
Type: Counter
Role: Defender
Rarity: SSR
"Hello. C-Can I... raise flowers here?"
A young Counter studying as an elementary student at the Administration Counter Academy.

She is a main character in A Wish that You Don't Know.

  • Balance Buff: Her Rearm enhances her survivability.
  • Breaking Old Trends: Her Rearm was the first unit to be released simultaneously in the Global and Korean servers.
  • Glacier Waif: She's known for having exceptional strength for a girl of her size and build, and she's classified as a Defender in-game so she has the toughness to back it up.
  • Guest Fighter: For the hololive crossover event, Gawr Gura is playable as a skin for Kaci, and she even got updated spritework when Kaci's Rearm was added.
  • Ironic Fear: She has a fear of Counters despite being one herself and being surrounded by them at the Counter Academy.
  • True Sight: At Skill Level 5, her Passive allows her to detect Stealthed units.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: She's not particularly skilled at fighting due to avoiding it as much as possible, but she does have the brute strength to stand up to more experienced opponents, as Naielle finds out at the field day.
  • You Can See Me?: Unlike everyone else, she's able to see Sky just fine, much to Sky's surprise. She briefly forgets Sky like the rest after running off in a huff when Sky cheered on Naielle (who was on the other team, thus jeopardizing their own chance of winning the Field Day and getting the Wishing Orb for Sky), though she remembers later.

    Sky Layfield
Voiced by: KR: Kim Chaeha JP: Yukiko Motoyoshi
Type: Counter
Role: Supporter
Rarity: SSR
"Hi, hello, I'm Sky Layfield! Don't worry if you forget my name; I'll tell you as many times as you need."
A Counter from the Administration Counter Academy's elementary section who's been alone for a long time.

She is a main character in A Wish that You Don't Know.

  • Blessed with Suck: Counter powers are a mixed bag in general, but Sky probably has it worse than nearly everyone else; her powers involve cognitive distortion, which makes her both forgettable and imperceptible to most people. While they make her an extremely good Stealth Expert, they've also done a number on her psyche as she has no control over them.
  • Forgettable Character: One of her quotes states that she was told about her Counter abilities causing cognitive distortion, meaning that people often forget she exists as a result of her own powers; another of her quotes implies the CEO once played a game of catch with her, only to forget what he was doing halfway through and leave her hanging. Even Arti, who prides herself on her memory, forgets her name multiple times in a single conversation.
  • Friend-or-Idol Decision: In A Wish that You Don't Know, she enters the Field Day with Arti and Kaci to try and win the Wishing Orb and use it to wish away her problem of not being noticeable. However, because the PR person for the event removed the Orb from its protective case, it ends up attracting C.O.s which threaten several lives, including Kaci. With the Orb in her grasp, Sky ultimately chooses her friend over her own desires, and wishes for the power to save Kaci, depleting the orb's power enough that she can no longer use it for herself.
  • Genki Girl: In one of her lobby lines, she mentions that she never gets tired and can keep running forever.
  • Humble Hero: In Salary Negotiation, she says the CEO owes her nothing since they're friends. On a Great Success, she actually double-checks if the CEO's being too generous.
  • Idiot Hair: She has a long ahoge sticking out from the top of her head, and she likes to act out in attempts to gain attention (and, by her own admission, isn't the brightest). Arti quickly takes to calling her "Antenna" as a result as the hair is the one thing about Sky that she remembers the best.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: Given that she spent a good chunk of her life friendless and ignored through no fault of her own, it's no wonder she wants to make friends and have people pay attention to her. She does get the friends she wants at the academy, thankfully.
  • Perception Filter: She's nearly impossible to perceive for someone that's not focusing on her, barring those with Super-Senses like Alex, and even those who do forget about her the moment their attention slips. Unfortunately for her, she can't turn it off on her own.
  • The Pollyanna: Very cheerful and energetic in spite of what her powers entail, thanks to the bonds she makes with Kaci and Arti in "A Wish that You Don't Know". Before then, she was about as depressed as you'd expect a girl in her state to be.
  • Support Party Member: She can provide attack buffs, damage reduction, and stun immunity.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: She's the sporty, athletic Tomboy to Kaci's Girly Girl.
  • Wonder Twin Powers: Inverted. At the end of A Wish that You Don't Know, Sky follows Seo Yoon's suggestion and uses the Wishing Orb's remaining power to be able to turn off her powers when near Kaci, thus allowing her to interact normally with people.

White Rabbit

    Yang Harim / Hoshino Usagi
Voiced by: KR: Jaehyun Lee JP:
Type: Counter
Role: Supporter
Rarity: SSR
"I'll fight for the world order and peace! Where do I start? Helping the needy? Feeding stray dogs?"
A junior high student at the Administration Counter Academy, and the president of the White Rabbit school club.
  • Adorably Precocious Child: A young child interested in saving animals, she states in her Salary Negotiation that the money will go to the club.
  • Animal Lover:
    • Her bio mentions that she spends her entire Counter Support Fund from the Administration on pet food, and she jumps right into the sewers whenever she hears a cry for help.
    • Her last Counter Case reveals that she wasn't always like this: she used to be afraid of a stray puppy, but after the two were rescued by Sorim (who was new in town) the Animal Rescue Squad was established that day and they took in the puppy.
  • The Beastmaster: Her Counter abilities allow her to communicate with animals and keep them in her Watch, and in-combat, all of her abilities and basic attacks involve her summoning them at will.
  • Friend to All Living Things: In her first Counter Case, someone who knows her mentions that all the animals in town really liked her, and stray cats and dogs would all gather around her whenever she passed by.
  • Guest Fighter: For the HoloMyth crossover event, Amelia Watson is playable as a skin for Harim, with Smol Ames replacing Harim's animal companions.
  • The Leader: Of the White Rabbit club.
  • Meaningful Name: "Usagi" is the Japanese word for rabbit.
  • Speaks Fluent Animal: She can communicate with animals of all sorts.
  • Status Buff: Her special increases Skill Haste and provides barriers.
  • Tragic Keepsake: Her Exclusive Equipment is a phone case created in memory of her first friend that "grew strong and healthy from a tadpole into a frog, even though the teacher said it wouldn't live long".
  • The Transmogrifier: Her fourth Counter Case reveals that her pixellated animal companions are actual animals transformed by her Watch and kept inside it. Teddy is the black bear Harim befriended in her first Counter Case, but Hojin stops Harim from revealing Ducky and Hopper's original forms.

    Han Sorim / Mizuki Haneda
Voiced by: KR: Park Gowoon JP:
Type: Soldier
Role: Ranger
Rarity: SR
"My name is Han Sorim. In my line of business, I'm better known as the Trigger of Judgment. You may call me-wait. That rabbit isn't a rabbit. He's Sergeant Smith. You'd better not touch him, or-heeek! P-please don't touch him. He's a limited edition..."
A junior high student of the Administration Counter Academy, and the second-in-command of the White Rabbit school club.
  • Balance Buff: Her Rearm improves her anti-Defender capabilities and gives her an Ultimate.
  • Expy: M200 from Girls' Frontline.
  • Gameplay and Story Integration: She's technically also a Counter, because (1) her powers bolster her poor health to slightly above a regular person's and (2) the Counter Academy only accepts Counters as students. However, due to her barely being above a regular person in terms of ability, as a unit she's only considered a Soldier.
  • Girls Love Stuffed Animals: She carries around a rabbit doll she calls Sergeant Smith, and her Exclusive Equipment is a raccoon doll named Corporal Mark. Both are modeled after characters in the famous Show Within a Show Charge! Town Soldiers of Bremen.
Corporal Mark's flavor text: Limited edition. Brave. Slobbered on.
  • Ill Girl: She was born with myasthenia, which caused her muscles to be extremely weak to the point that she could barely lift a spoon before becoming a Counter. The only reason she is able to function normally is that her Counter ability boosts her strength.
  • Instant Expert: Her bio notes that she's a fast learner despite hating all forms of physical activity. In her first simulation training, she scored well above the averages of soldiers in weapon utilization and shooting, with only the knowledge she learned by watching others.
  • Minor Living Alone: Her fourth Counter Case reveals that she lives away from her mom.
  • Ms. Imagination: She styles herself as an acclaimed war veteran.
  • Number Two: She's the secondary leader of the White Rabbit club.
  • Self-Applied Nickname: She calls herself the Trigger of Judgment.
  • When You Coming Home, Dad?: Her soldier act is her way of coping with her father being a war correspondent. Her final Counter Case reveals that he went missing in the Counterside years ago.

    Cho Hojin / Itou Mayumi

Voiced by: KR: Kim Hyunji JP:
Type: Counter
Role: Ranger
Rarity: R
"I'm Cho Hojin. I can't tell you what exactly I'm good at, but I can be useful."
A high school student of the Administration Counter Academy, and the newest member of the White Rabbit school club.
  • Ace Custom: Her Exclusive Equipment is the IVORY Clover-17, a custom submachine gun that reflects the owner's personal taste.
The number in the model name indicates the number of times it was broken on accident.
  • Born Lucky: Her ability as a Counter has increased her luck. In Episode 6, Harim warns Mina that her Dive training trip with her fellow high school classmates might be dangerous, citing Hojin hurting herself and being unable to attend as a sign.
  • Ordinary High-School Student: At least in terms of Counters.
  • Reality Warper: Her actual power as a Counter subconsciously bends luck in her favor, and the CEO speculates that it requires removing luck from others.

Alphatrix

    As a group

    Alphatrix President
Shin Jia's grandfather, and the founder and former president of Alphatrix Innovation. His death leads into the events of "Proof of Heart", with the company discussing the issue of leadership.
  • Byronic Hero: From what we learn about him, the President was a person with a fundamentally good desire to make the world a better place and strong motivation to make it so, but lacked understanding of how the world actually works and didn't treat his family as well as he could have. His plan to make an Artificial Human controllable by trigger phrases is noted as being particularly inane and reprehensible even in-universe, and on his deathbed he expresses regret for how he treated Jia. In her Awakened form, Shin Jia admits that while his methods were not the best, his goals were ultimately noble, and she strives to live up to them.
  • Death by Origin Story: His death kicks off Shin Jia's Character Development.
  • No Name Given: He's only ever referred to as "the President", "Grandfather" by Shin Jia, and "father" by his children.
  • Plot-Triggering Death: His death kicks off the plot of "Proof of Heart".
  • Posthumous Character: "Proof of Heart" is set after his death and reveals how he was in life.
  • Rich in Dollars, Poor in Sense: It's noted that, while he was a good businessman and could make money, that's all he was good at, not having the sense or the ability to carry out his actual visions.

A young girl from Alphatrix Innovation. A natural-born genius, she's currently leading their Promotion team.

She first appears in Dive Levels 46-50, and she's the protagonist of Proof of Heart.

  • The Ace: Need some materials moved? She'll move multiple stacks of them where Gabriel could barely only do one. Up against a master chess player while learning chess for the first time? She's already won the first three games. Whenever she gets into something for the first time, she always does it perfectly on the first try and gets confused why something that seems easy to her is so difficult for everyone else. This is also why her family relatives in Proof of Heart are wary of her.
  • Animal Motif: Butterflies. Her Awakened form has translucent butterfly-like wings and wears an outfit adorned with butterfly patterns, and as described by the Proof of Metamorphosis trophy in Proof of Heart, the event shows her figuratively breaking out of the cocoon she lived in to become her own person.
  • Artificial Human: Proof of Heart reveals that her grandfather decided that Genetic Engineering Is the New Nuke for the sake of his "better world", which led to the creation of Shin Jia and her hundred or so clones.
  • Bribing Your Way to Victory: Downplayed in the sense that she's given as a first-purchase bonus; a new account can get her by paying as much as one dollar.
  • A Day in the Limelight: In addition to her fellow employees of Alphatrix, she is the main protagonist of Proof of Heart.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: A result of Intelligence Equals Isolation. She treats salary negotiations as gifts from friends.
    • This becomes the main motive of her first Counter Case, where she tries to help people all over the city in return for them becoming her friends, only to cause a lot of trouble. She eventually gets what she wanted in a later Case when she meets Coffin Company's CEO, who assures her that they're friends.
  • Innocent Fanservice Girl: In her anniversary skin, she mentions that Chowon told her to make sure the belt is secure so as to not "ruin the banquet". However, she pulls on it, causing a lot of bouncing in the chest area. The wink at the end implies she's aware of the effect (at least on the CEO).
  • Me's a Crowd: She can create holographic body doubles indistinguishable from the real thing through her augmented reality device, although this can be countered by AR jammers. In gameplay, her Special summons two illusionary clones of herself (which are visually distinct from the real Shin Jia for gameplay reasons).
  • Ms. Fanservice: She's one of the bustiest ladies in the game by far, and most of her skins proudly show it off along with the rest of her figure, usually with a good deal of bouncing in her Live2D animations. Even her default appearance features a very form-fitting dress despite not showing much skin.
    • Her Awakened form in particular has little more than two precarious-looking straps covering her chest along with a clear lack of a bra, and she actively jiggles when poked as if trying to invoke the Theiss Titillation Theory.
    • This is emphasized by her Awakened form's "A Blossoming Desire" skin, as it is technically the most expensive item in the game because it can only be acquired by players who have spent 80,000 Admin Coins within a certain time period.
  • Navel-Deep Neckline: Her Awakened form's outfit features a slit all the way down her cleavage to her belly.
  • Nice Girl: Her grandfather taught her to be virtuous, something she unfailingly follows to the letter. In Proof of Heart, she saves a guard from being killed by a berserk Goliath tank (although he wanted her to surrender peacefully to start with because she was nice to him). She also saves a CEO from getting assassinated, even though Jin wanted to let it happen so that it would rule Jia out as the Alphatrix killer.
  • Our Fairies Are Different: Her Awakened form has the iridescent butterfly wings attributed to many fairy depictions. In the climax of Proof of Heart, she also demonstrates the very fairy godmother-like ability to manifest things from her teammates' imaginations. Her grandfather's project to create her even used the term "fairy", and due to her uncanny ability to master any task she's sent to do and her artificial nature, she's often treated very differently from regular people, with her grandfather asking to keep her wings hidden for fear of distancing herself from humanity entirely.
  • Power Gives You Wings: Her Awakened form has her fly using butterfly-like wings that appear to have come from whatever genome map her grandfather used to create her with. When she showed them to him, he has her swear never to use them and forget any memory of them out of fear that she'd grow distant from humanity.
  • Secret-Keeper: The ending of Proof of Heart implies that she becomes one of the few people privy to the CEO's true identity, and about the only one outside of Coffin Company.
  • Shout-Out: Her lessons from her grandpa are phrased like Tendou Souji's lessons from his grandma.
  • Significant Birth Date: Her birthday is listed as New Year's Day. Quite appropriate given the circumstances and motives behind her creation, namely the birth of something greater than humanity.
  • Trigger Phrase: In Proof of Heart, she and her clones are controlled by her grandfather's voice saying "For a better world..." followed by a command, which is what Cecilia does to exert control over Jia. Jia herself ends up exploiting this to (re)gain her Awakened form by imagining her grandfather allowing her to use it once more.
  • Yandere: Her "A Blossoming Desire" skin shows a What If? version of her where she succumbs to her obsession with the CEO, becoming wholly and unhealthily devoted to him as a result of her not being able to properly handle her feelings.

A former secretary to the Alphatrix CEO, she was demoted to the Promotion team, after being blamed for being a Counter.

She first appears in Dive Levels 46-50, and she's a supporting character in Proof of Heart.

  • Becoming the Mask: The Alphatrix Vice Chairman had her join the Innovation team on the condition that she got rid of Jia, but she slowly came around to protecting Jia instead.
  • Playing with Fire: Her Counter powers.
  • Power Up Letdown: In-universe, she finds her Counter abilities to be not conducive to her job as an Office Lady and secretary.

  • Child Soldier: A former one.
  • Comedic Sociopathy: Her mercenary nature still remains, meaning she's sometimes quick to suggest violence as a solution to problems (often to protests by Saerom and Gabriel).
  • Crazy-Prepared: In her Counter Case, she sets up a bunch of traps and devices around the school she's attending, in case a burglar or criminal enters. While she's being reprimanded for this, a runaway criminal trips all of them.
  • Goggles Do Something Unusual: Her Exclusive Equipment is her Alpha Vision glasses, which have built-in data collection and analysis functions. She also carries a spare pair, which comes in handy for Shin Jia during "Proof of Heart".

  • Hidden Depths: "Proof of Heart" reveals that he used to be an acrobat in the Cronenworth Puppet Troupe.

  • Annoying Younger Sibling: Weirdly played with; she and Gabriel have agreed on the weaker twin being the younger twin, so they switch every now and then.
  • Chuunibyou: Like her brother, she likes to act out the part of a mystical hunter of evil.
  • Hero Antagonist: In "Proof of Heart", she serves as an obstacle to Shin Jia in her quest to clear her name, having been tasked with taking her in. During the event's climax, it's revealed that she was being used as an Unwitting Pawn by the main villain the entire time, and she becomes the 11th-Hour Ranger to Jia's group.
  • Mechanically Unusual Fighter: She starts as a Tower for the first fifteen seconds, then turns into a Striker that chases after enemies. She is also the only non-Defender with MDL.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: She looks so much like Gabriel, even down to their clothing, that Saerom calls her "a totally cuter version of Gabriel" (only to take that back when she calls Saerom a "mushroom head").
  • Verbal Tic: She likes to use "Kachow" as an exclamation.

"Mistakes made by my hands... will be finished by no other."
A strange and mysterious wanderer cloaked in black armor, she disappears as easily as she appears, and her goals are as nebulous as her origins.

She first appears in "Bottom of the Shade", and she's a major character in "Carnival".

  • The Atoner: As Elysion's Mental Printing has done terrible things and is implied to have something to do with the realm's corruption by Thagirion, Mors carries guilt for allowing it to happen and tries to rectify her mistakes.
  • Black Knight: A wandering, mysterious warrior clad in black armor and wielding an axe.
  • Bruiser with a Soft Center: It's buried very, very deep down, but she's far less hostile than her appearance and nature suggest.
  • But Now I Must Go: At the end of Episode 11, she tells Chris to stay in the Normalside while she goes to delay Thagirion in the Counterside alongside Revenant for as long as they can before Thagirion starts a Qliphoth Game.
  • Defector from Decadence: She was once one of Elysion's ruling authorities and initially on board with their use of Mental Printing, but after seeing the results, she was horrified and turned against them. In the modern day, she's become Maestra's Arch-Enemy.
  • The Dreaded: She is the origin of the Killer of the Holy Night tale told in "Year-End Party" (though Alex admits that "controlling others with a mark" was made up to replace "chopping someone's head off with an axe").
  • Enemy Mine: For most of "Carnival", she cooperates with Montagne since their shared enemy is Maestra Nequitia, who's dormant within Revenant.
  • Flowery Elizabethan English: She has very antiquated and flowery speech patterns. Justified as she's a papal authority from another universe.
  • Gathering Steam: She gains a permanent boost to HP and Defense each time an ally dies.
  • I Work Alone: When she takes action, she almost always does so on her own, and rarely forms partnerships. Being a Shadow is a heavily contributing factor, as people risk being Corrupted just by being near her. At the end of "Carnival", Lyudmila convinces her to stick around as she has no hope of fighting the renewed Elysium Philharmonic alone.
  • * Meaningful Name:
  • Non-Standard Character Design: Is given a 3D model during gameplay rather than a sprite.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: As per her own dialogue, "Mors" is not her given name, and she is alternatively known as "the Wanderer"; meanwhile, she is referred to as "the Eminent" by other residents of Elysion. In any case, her real name is unknown, and Mors herself doesn't care to remember. The reveal of her Awakened form also reveals her real name to be Ecclesia.
  • Resemblance Reveal: In the climax of "Carnival", her face is revealed after she protects Chris from Maestra Nequitia's attack, and it's strikingly similar to Alex (whose body was cloned from Mors).
  • Retcon: "Carnival" reveals that she tried to save Dash after the latter lost to Ministra at the end of "Bottom of the Shade", but was unable to take on Ministra, Nervier, and Sollicitatio all at once (only surviving because they were called back by Thagirion). This is downplayed because "Bottom of the Shade" was Rita's recollection of her last moments with Dash.
  • Robotic Reveal: Inverted; despite being classified as a Mech in-game, she's not mechanical by nature, but actually a Shadow wearing a bulky suit of armor.
  • Samus Is a Girl: At a glance it's a bit difficult to tell that she even has a gender, but the design of the armor implies it and her voice is very distinctively female. In "Bottom of the Shade" and "Carnival", she's explicitly referred to as a woman.
  • She's Back: The climax of Episode 11 shows Mors shedding her armor and reverting to her identity as Ecclesia. However, the ending reveals that it's only temporary.
  • Wild Card: Mors isn't inherently villainous, but she is extremely unpredictable. The only thing certain about her goals is that she wants Nequitia dead.

"I swear by the honor of my family that I'll contribute to the success of your company. Please understand if it gets a little chilly in the office."
"" (Awakened)
A student in university, and the heir to the MacCready estate.

She is the protagonist of "Old Fear" and "Frozen Corridors".

  • Arch-Enemy: By staying in the Society, she has put herself opposite Prydwen, and especially its leader Elizabeth (though the latter is more like her Sitcom Arch-Nemesis).
  • Bad Powers, Good People: While her abilities are being used by an Eldritch Abomination-worshipping cult and are powerful enough to stall Rayleigh, Regina herself is an upstanding person.
  • Benevolent Boss: Despite coming to resent the Society and all it stands for, she's still shown caring for the well-being of its members.
  • Darkest Hour: In "Frozen Corridors", she teeters dangerously close to the Despair Event Horizon after her initial confrontation with Edel at LAKE-4 was an utter failure. G.A.P. Bird wants her to realize that she always had leverage over Edel, but to make use of it she needs to reclaim her powers in the one place she's been subconsciously avoiding: the estate's basement where Edel sacrificed 666 people to revive her.
  • Depower: In "Frozen Corridors", she finds herself on the run after being pursued by The Chilling Chaser since her powers apparently aren't working, but she learns that it is a manifestation of her guilt after 666 residents of her estate willingly gave their lives to save her after Serapel drained her vitality. By confronting the Chaser in her family mansion's basement where the ritual took place, she acquires her Awakened form.
  • Dragon Ascendant: In "Frozen Corridors", this is downplayed: she takes Edel's Presidency, but remains a good person in that she now keeps both Edel and the Society in check.
  • Exact Words: In the climax of "Old Fear", she convinces Rivet to help her assist Edel against the event antagonist by promising half of her family fortune to her. When Rivet reminds her in the ending, Regina points out that her family's assets is the President's, which is currently Edel. She then offers to cut her bus pass in half as consolation, which earns Rivet's ire.
  • Flat-Earth Atheist: She initially dismisses the various bits of occult lore collected by the Society as nonsense despite living in the Fantasy Kitchen Sink that is the Counter:Side world. Rivet calls her out on it:
    Regina: What... What is Edel?
Rivet: I don't know. A tentacled monster, like the ones in horror fictions?
Regina: Will you stop trying to be funny with the stupid occult references?
Rivet: What are you talking about? It's been some time now since this world started to look like a giant stage for occult movies, especially to mercenaries like me. Monsters are invading from the other world, and there are people hunting them down, shooting fire from their palms. And they pull magic stones out of the dead monsters afterward. The line between fiction and reality has become blurry, Regina.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: In "Frozen Corridors", the CEO warns her that becoming President of the Society will be a thankless job, but she knows it is the only logical way to keep both them and Edel in check.
  • Hot as Hell: Her "Sweet Fear" Halloween costume, courtesy of Rivet, is a Stripperiffic succubus. She definitely plays into it with her Lifetime lines:
"Not all succubi want the same thing... I can, however, do what other succubi do if you want."
  • An Ice Person: Her Watch, passed down in her family, allows her to conjure ice. Its main purpose is to prevent Gha'agsheblah from getting too wild during its hunger.
  • Manipulative Bastard: In the climax of "Frozen Corridors", this is how she asserts authority over Edel: if Edel continues to act behind Regina's back, Regina may as well use her own Counter powers on herself and make Edel lose the one person who wanted to understand her after so long. Edel tries to call her bluff, but Regina's newfound mastery of "freezing" her own emotions convinces Edel that Regina is using cold logic. Impressed by Regina's growth, Edel acknowledges her as the Society's President, and the epilogue reveals that Edel took back all the Fragments she had given to the Society's members.
  • Mirror Character: To Elizabeth Pendragon. Both are young ladies in charge of opposing organizations with related goals, both have regal demeanors, and both can be a bit on the haughty side (though Elizabeth is far more so). Rivet even notes how similar Elizabeth is to how Regina was in their first meeting.
  • Mundane Utility: Having someone with ice powers around has some perks, though Regina isn't thrilled about it:
"I'm not an air conditioner or refrigerator. Please stop coming to me when it's hot."
  • Number Two: The events of "Old Fear" have convinced her to assume the position of Vice President of the Society until she figures out the secrets of her family's mansion, letting Edel keep her Presidency indefinitely.
  • Ojou: Especially played up in her Japanese lines.
  • Only Sane Woman: Compared to the other members of the Society.
  • Parental Abandonment: "Old Fear" opens with her receiving Edel's letter about her mother's death, unaware that she ends up helping Edel devour her in the climax. As for her father, she saw her mother devour him.
  • Power Incontinence: She doesn't have the best control, leading to the issue of her feeling very cold and lowering the surrounding temperature often.
    • This is no longer the case in her Awakened form, which is revealed to be set after the events of "Frozen Corridors".
  • Token Good Teammate: Regina is a fairly decent person, whereas the rest of the Society is still functionally a cult subservient to an Eldritch Abomination. This is especially emphasized after the events of "Frozen Corridors".
  • Took a Level in Badass: "Frozen Corridors" reveals that her Awakened form is her taking Edel's Presidency after mastering the concept of "freezing" beyond just conjuring ice.
  • Unwitting Pawn: She's entirely unaware that Edel has been manipulating her entire family line since the time of her ancestor Eckhart.

some caption text
A member of the ESPR, she introduces herself as Regina's caretaker while the latter was staying in Room 1408.

She is a supporting character in "Frozen Corridors".

  • Lovable Coward: Seeing as she's the weakest person in the group, she frequently claims that hiding and running away are the best options. Even when she tries to stand her ground, she admits to being frightened and afraid of taking action.
  • The Pollyanna: She frequently points out the goodness in people and usually speaks about the bright side, even when on the run after Regina breaks the both of them out. It's later revealed that she is the personification of Regina's hope.

  • Tomato in the Mirror: She is a figment of Regina's imagination that Regina sees with the face of Lamda Spatari's sister, who was among the 666 residents of Regina's estate that Edel sacrificed to revive Regina. Her appearances on-screen are her as the Anthropomorphic Personification of Regina's hope and desire to run away.
  • Unreliable Expositor: As a figment of Regina's imagination, it's unknown whether her account of the sacrifices' last moments in the post-battle scene of 6-3 can be taken at face value since it's equally likely to be Regina subconsciously rationalizing their deaths. The Chilling Chaser, the manifestation of Regina's guilt over that, being dispelled just a moment ago implies that this is how she wants to accept those deaths.
  • White Sheep: Of the Society. She's just a normal village girl who has never been outside the Society's influence, but she's entirely normal in terms of morality, if a little frightened by her Entertainingly Wrong perceptions of the outside world, and she thinks the Lake of Knowledge is an admirable thing.

Fennec Fox

    As a group

  • Hufflepuff House: They're stated to be a mercenary group specialized in desert operations and their members have relatively distinct appearances and personalities, but don't play much of a role in the narrative.
    • This is later averted in Springs of Cypress, as one of Canary Squad's opponents in the Gauntlet.

Voiced by: KR: Shin Onyu JP: Arisa Kori
Type: Soldier
Role: Striker
Rarity: SSR
"Thank you for calling Flora Maid Service, Master. I'll serve you to the best of my ability as your chief maid."
The founder and head maid of the Flora Maid Service.

She is the protagonist of "Unbreakable Flowers".

  • Amnesiac Dissonance: "Unbreakable Flowers" opens with her unconscious on the beach and unable to remember her assassin identity. She originally started up the Flora Maid Service with Mone so that she could recover her memories.
  • The Atoner: This is how she lives her life after the events of "Unbreakable Flowers", which comes to a head in Episode 9.5.
  • Broken Ace: She's a fantastic maid and a fiercely loyal and kind helper to the CEO. She's also deeply traumatized by her previous life as an assassin under the Mansion Master, frequently putting herself down as atonement for her actions.
  • Determinator: She's classified as a Soldier and not a Counter (the latter gains their superhuman abilities from their Watch), so her Last Chance Hit Point ability is her refusing to die through sheer force of will.
    • Exaggerated in Episode 9.5, when she soldiers through the hyperdepths of the Counterside (a place even Counters have difficulty enduring) for the CEO's sake.
  • Feels No Pain: Due to the Mansion Master's invention, she's been injected with a poison that numbs her nerves.
  • Hero Antagonist: In Episode 9.5, she comes to blows with both the Militia and Orca because Sysop needs her to activate the Hive Control device hidden underneath Coffin Company, which will help the employees and Delta Seven who are trapped in imaginary space in Episode 9 escape and allow the CEO to finally win the Qliphoth Game after so many failures in countless worlds. Veronica is the only person who can withstand the hyperdepths of the Counterside surrounding the device.
  • Last Chance Hit Point: The first character to make use of the Immortality mechanic, allowing her to become unkillable for several seconds after her health is depleted once per deployment.
  • Meaningful Name: Named after the genus of plants.
  • Meido: Specifically referred to as "anime-styled".
  • Sexy Santa Dress: Her "Private Cabin Party" skin.
  • Undying Loyalty: To the CEO.
  • Unwitting Pawn: In Episode 9.5, the other reason Sysop requests her help is that she's the key to Lee Yuri and Yumi being near the Hive Control device, allowing it to be charged up by their presences.

"I'm Lily, here to help you sleep at night. I'll make you the G.O.A.T...note Isn't that how you say it?"
Lycoris and Mone's superior in the Flora Maid Service.

She is a major antagonist in "Unbreakable Flowers" and a supporting ally in "Vice President's Holidays".

  • Broken Pedestal: To Veronica for leaving the Mansion. After learning about the truth, it gets rebuilt.
  • Forced Sleep: Her Special inflicts Sleep on up to two targets for 7 seconds (10 seconds at Skill Level 5).
  • Heel–Face Turn: In the climax of "Unbreakable Flowers", after seeing the Mansion Master coldly discard her and being rescued by Veronica and Lycoris, Lily realizes that her hatred was misplaced. The epilogue shows her spending time with Veronica, Lycoris, and Mone as an official member of the Flora Maid Service.
  • Meido: Veronica trained Lily as a maid of the Mansion ever since the Mansion orphaned her, and her refusal to kill Lily on the Mansion Master's order led to her opposing the Mansion. After joining the Flora Maid Service, Lily has been more open to Veronica's tutelage.
  • Number Two: As Veronica's first pupil, she holds authority over Lycoris and Mone.
  • Parental Abandonment: Her parents were murdered by the Mansion, and Veronica regrets not stopping it in time.
  • Shout-Out: In one comic, she uses the abbreviation YHNCTSMYTnote.
  • Smoke Out: Every time she loses 25% of her HP, she drops a five-second smokescreen that makes enemies inside it lose 60% Speed and Hit.
  • Support Party Member: Her Ultimate makes enemies hit by it lose their increased damage from Role Advantage for 12 seconds (18 seconds at Skill Level 5).

She first appears as an antagonist in "Unbreakable Flowers", and she's a supporting ally in "Vice President's Holidays" and "The Moonless Night".

  • The Cameo: In the epilogue of "My Wish Is...", she's the Administration contact that meets up with Team OZ.
  • Cordon Bleugh Chef: According to her bio, her unique culinary principles (i.e., her preference for spicy food) caused claims from several former employers, which in turn contributed to the Flora Maid Service's failure to win that year's Customer Satisfaction award, but she refuses to acknowledge it. Mone considers her food Cool and Unusual Punishment.
  • Mentor Archetype: As the Administration's contact for Team OZ, she provides training for them once they sign up and serves as their de facto leader.
  • The Mole: The epilogue of "Unbreakable Flowers" reveals that she was infiltrating the Mansion as a mole for a government agency. She's unable to go back to them due to her handler, implied to be Mark Finley, denying any existence of her.
  • This Looks Like a Job for Aquaman: In "Vice President's Holidays", her special chili dog reenergizes Lara, allowing her to disable the weather manipulation machine endangering Mone's village.
  • Tsundere: Very tsun to just about everyone she meets.

The youngest member of the Flora Maid Service. She saved Veronica after the latter was washed up from the sea.

She is a supporting ally in "Unbreakable Flowers" and a main character in "Vice President's Holidays".

  • Cute Clumsy Girl: She's known to cause just as many problems as she solves when trying to help out. In-game, she trips over herself when using her Special and Ultimate.
  • Dual Wielding: She dual wields tonfas with guns embedded in them.
  • Gameplay and Story Integration: "Her Amenome Punch" skill is the same one she used against Lycoris.
  • Genki Girl: Very excitable and energetic.
  • Meaningful Name: Named after sea anemones.
  • Meido: She becomes one after seeing that Veronica's need to be a maid would be the best way for Mone to leave her town.
  • Power Nullifier: Her Passive inflicts Silence after every three basic attacks on Ground targets.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Looks very similar to her mother, Moena.

Freedom Riders

    As a group
They first appear in Episode 2.
  • The Drag-Along: Amy is basically the only one of them who's actually interested in helping people and, being a member of Six Wings, she ends up faking her death at the end of the chapter they're introduced. As such, any time they get involved in any sort of conflict, it's almost certainly not by choice.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: "Free Riders", due to them mooching off Administration welfare rather than actually putting in work. Aki protests the nickname; Minseo admits it's accurate.
  • Plucky Comic Relief: Most of their scenes have them going in way over their heads and are played for laughs.
  • Those Two Girls: Most of Aki and Minseo's scenes are with each other.

A member of the Freedom Riders, a small group of young Counters who protect their city.

For tropes related to her true identity, see "Firstwing" under COUNTER:SIDE - Normalside Antagonists.

  • Dropped a Bridge on Her: She apparently dies after Replacer Knight quite literally lands on top of her, but the end of the Episode reveals that she survived it, even if it took all her willpower not to just kill Knight for blatantly disrespecting her like that.
  • Empty Piles of Clothing: The only thing left of Amy after Replacer Knight takes her out is her jacket. Upon closer inspection and with knowledge of Amy's real identity, it's the only piece of clothing she has that her usual self doesn't.
  • Gratuitous English: Uses it in her introduction.
  • Killer Yoyo: She uses a yo-yo to fight.
  • Nice Girl: She's cheery, friendly, and always willing to help.
  • Wham Line: If you form a Lifetime Contract with her, she keeps up being her usual friendly, humble, supportive self throughout the process. Then after signing the contract, she drops this line:
Amy: I guess you already know who I am, but... okay, I don't dislike you, either. Let's just pretend we don't know each other.

"I'm Hirose Aki, a new Counter. You're not going to send young girls with a bright future like me out to battle, are you?"
A young new Counter and a member of the Freedom Riders, she dreams of making enough money to coast through the rest of her life. She helps Mina and Coffin Company during the Replacer Incident.

She also makes an appearance in "The Sun-Calling Tracks" and "Ethereal Moon Splitter".

  • Alternate Self: Her appearance in Lin Xien's "Notorious Transfer Student" skin is technically a version of her from another world, as seen in "New Semester".
  • BFS: Her weapon of choice. Her Counter ability allows her to change its weight.
  • Butt-Monkey: Due to her and Minseo being comparatively unimpressive Counters that often have to rely on other people for their needs, they frequently get dragged into conflicts against their will and made the butt of jokes.
  • Lazy Bum: She's not shy at all about her desire to not have to work for a living.
  • Lovable Coward: Very much willing to change opinions when confronted with battle.
  • Not Helping Your Case: She frequently objects to the Running Gag of the Freedom Riders being called the "Free Riders", despite making it clear that her goal in life is to never have to work another day and as such is found frequently mooching off other people.
  • Only in It for the Money: Her reason for being a Counter is to make enough money to live out her days peacefully.

"Ahem! The world's greatest shooter doesn't need many words to introduce herself. I'm Lin Xien."
A young lady who fights with shotguns. She's the only daughter of a financial titan, who seemingly allows her to live out her delusions of being a movie gangster.

She first appears in "Year-End Party", and she's a supporting ally in "Vice President's Holidays".

  • Alternate Self: Her "Notorious Transfer Student" skin is technically a version of her from another world, as shown in "New Semester".
  • Boring, but Practical: She's basically a by-the-numbers frontline attacker, but she's exceptionally good at one thing: generating lots of Deployment Resources. If she stays alive long enough, she quite literally pays for herself and then some.
  • "Could Have Avoided This!" Plot: During "Vice President's Holidays", Dracasia points out that her employer who wants Mone's village destroyed will just keep harassing it until they get what they want. Lin Xien's phone call with her father reveals that he's the main shareholder of that employer's company, and he has their expansion ceased. Dracasia even points out this trope near-verbatim.
  • Guns Akimbo: She fights with an automatic shotgun in each hand.
  • Hidden Buxom: While appearing modestly endowed in uniform, when she dresses in a bikini, she shows herself bigger breasted than she looked as part of a much more shapely body than she let on.
  • Magikarp Power: She particularly benefits from upgrade levels and gear due to her main gimmick of generating Deployment Resources via her Ultimate. At lower Skill levels, all she does is maybe refund the resources spent deploying her in the first place, but when maxed out and given some good Skill Haste gear she pretty much breaks the resource system in half.
  • Ms. Imagination: Believes herself to be a big criminal gangster like in the movies. Her dad mostly lets her be.
  • Oral Fixation: One of her post-Lifetime Contract lobby lines reveals that the stick in her mouth is a lollipop. Her Live2D animations also show the lollipop when she opens her mouth.
"Foo... Boss, I hope you never pick up such a dirty habit... Of sucking on a sour apple lollipop..."
  • Rich in Dollars, Poor in Sense: She comes from a very wealthy family, though her grasp of reality and common sense is tenuous at the best of times.
  • Support Party Member: She gives up to 2 Deployment Resources on deploy, and her Ultimate gives 4 when cast.
  • Uncertain Doom: In "New Semester", her "Notorious Transfer Student" version was last seen boarding her Counter Academy's Dimensional Ship to help rescue her world's version of Yoo Mina; in the "main" universe, the Official Support find that same ship abandoned.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Despite being a member of the Freedom Riders, she makes no appearance in the main story. "Year-End Party" reveals that she joined the group after the first main arc, and sticks around Minseo and Aki.
  • Written-In Absence: It's mentioned that she's absent from the second main arc because she wasn't involved in the climax of the Replacer Incident. That, and she's already wealthy.
(Episode 9, 2-1 pre-battle) Aki: We only came here because we were told that people who volunteer at the Delta Seven experience camp would receive support funding!
Lee Minseo: Th-that's right. We signed up because they said that priority will be given to people who participated in the Terraside battle...

  • Early-Bird Cameo: She first appears in the Jehuty Biotech Elimination Operation during "For the Uncrying".
  • Easily Forgiven: She and her fellow mercenaries terrorized Mone's village and even endangered Mone's mom, but Mone knows that they weren't bad people since they didn't want their client to destroy the village.
  • Jack of All Stats: A very well-rounded Striker statwise.
  • Punch-Clock Villain: She's not necessarily evil, but in "Vice President's Holidays" she's on the payroll of a rather unscrupulous company.
  • Selfie Fiend: She's obsessed with taking selfies for her social media, such that she delays her initial assault on Mone's village in exchange for a selfie with Machine G.A.P.
  • Stripperiffic: Her outfit is a pirate coat worn very loosely over a swimsuit.

  • Heroes Prefer Swords: She wields a katana.
  • Perpetual Poverty: Played for Laughs in Elizabeth Pendragon's second Counter Case file. Nina's entry in a cooking contest is toast cereal, cereal made out of toast, and while all the judges have moderate to good reviews for it, her excessive detail of her impoverished childhood causes them to lose their appetite.

    As a group
They first appear in "Devil and Bartender".

    Gremory

Type: Counter
Role: Supporter
Rarity: SSR
A perpetually drunk woman and the titular owner of Gremory's Bar. She used to go by the name Lamia, and was once a famous fortuneteller in the Underworld.
  • The Alcoholic: She makes it a point to never stay anywhere near sober for long. Taken up to eleven during "Neverland Nevermore" where she manages to not only outdrink a robot specifically designed to consume alcohol, but then complain that she's not getting more after the competition.
  • Beneath Suspicion: For all her suspicion on Momo, Nicole never suspects that Gremory was the demon she was sent to hunt.
  • Breaking Old Trends: The first Counter with a second Passive instead of a Special.
  • Doomed Hometown: Considering she is named after a mythical creature and absolutely abhors infidelity, it's implied that she's from the same Worldline as the Frederick siblings.
  • Hard-Drinking Party Girl: You can count the number of times when she's not entirely hammered on one hand. Her second passive is even titled "Aiem Not Druunnkk!"
  • Heel–Face Turn: Started out as a fortuneteller for hire in the Underworld whose skills had a hand in the Dark Council's rise to power. However, she makes it clear that it's no longer her cup of tea, and nowadays she's content to simply drink and chat with her customers, providing them advice and a safe haven to cut loose.
  • Made of Iron: She survives accidentally setting off the event antagonist's bombs on her own bar (in her drunken stupor, she mistook the detonator for her phone).
  • Mama Bear: The one thing that's seen getting her riled is making threats against Momo; when the leader of the Poison Rats does so, she tells him that he'll be sorry if he lays a finger on her (although she also assures Nicole that Momo can take care of herself). The Stinger shows her making good on her threat after he kidnapped Momo and tried to rig her bar with explosives.
  • Meaningful Name: Named after a demon in the Ars Goetia. Her previous name references the Lamia, a monster from Classical Mythology.
  • Motive Rant: Goes on a spectacular one after finding the leader of the Poison Rats trying to rig her bar with explosives, causing her to sober up and give a Slasher Smile:
"Times have changed, and yet the Exorcism Council is still talking about devils instead of the Shadows. And that hellion I sealed in the box wouldn't stop messing with the Administration. I have enough on my plate. I just sold my name once to make contracts easier; gnatlings bother me. [...] I warned you. You can't handle a contract with me. I don't predict anything for you scum. I let you enjoy good luck... in exchange for your 'possibilities' that can change this reality. I'm sorry, but what can I do? 'We' don't have a treasure like the grimoire of the sun. That's why we parasitize on humans who are still rooted in this reality. Because we don't want to become real 'devils'. But pathetic souls like you don't have any possibilities for the future. So why should I help you, when you've got nothing to offer me in return?"
  • "Not So Different" Remark: She tells Lulu that they have more in common than Lulu realizes, or at least cares to admit.
    Lulu: ...Devil.
Gremory: Fu fu. You and I are in a similar situation, little Ms. Monster.

"Worship me, human. I'm Morgana Mordred, the Demon Lord of Despair. What? No, not Momo! Don't shorten my name like that! Huh? Candy? For me? Okay, then I hereby appoint you the third of my four champions! You should feel honored!"
An accident-prone demon girl under Gremory's care.
  • Butt-Monkey: A good chunk of the humor in the "Gremory's Bar" event is comprised of various mild injuries that she suffers.
  • Chuunibyou: She may or may not actually be a Demon Lord, but her appearance and behavior make it hard for anyone to really take her delusions of grandeur seriously.note
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: She's noted by Gremory as being spectacularly unlucky, rarely going a few moments unsupervised without hurting herself or causing a mess. Thankfully she's also Made of Iron.
  • Deathbringer the Adorable: "Morgana Mordred, the Demon Lord" is not a title you'd usually associate with a being that looks and acts like a little girl.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: Nicole shortens her name to "Momo" on their first encounter, much to her protests. The name evidently stuck.
  • Holy Burns Evil: Nicole at one point tries to expose her as a demon by lacing her strawberry milk with holy water, which ends up sending her to the hospital with an allergic reaction.
  • This Looks Like a Job for Aquaman: Her Command Skill gives enemies 100% Healing Reflux for a time, which makes her particularly valuable for stages involving The Wall (such as the Inhibitor raid boss and the Tuning Binaries Event Challenge). Since The Wall's gimmick is massive HP regeneration during its defensive stance, triggering Momo's Command Skill will kill it near-instantly, leaving the main target exposed.

"I'm Nicole from the Vatican Exorcism-I mean the new bartender. Would you like to order something?"
An exorcist of the Church, she is sent to go and exorcise a Demon Lord.

She is the protagonist of "Devil and Bartender".

  • Accidental Art: While making a cocktail for an influential critic, she accidentally uses her holy water instead of orange juice as per Gremory's recipe. She apologizes profusely for her mistake, but the critic loves the taste, and his glowing review of the "Rainbow Nicole" makes the bar extremely popular.
  • Achievements in Ignorance: Managed to take down the Poison Rats cartel by accident after mistaking their Unusual Euphemism of "bartender" seriously.
  • Ancestral Weapon: Her rifle, Agathe, has been passed down for generations.
  • Conflicting Loyalty: Her oath as an exorcist is to hunt down and punish all demons, but her employment at Gremory's Bar has led to her becoming a sort of caretaker for the accident-prone Momo instead. Gremory advises her to do what she thinks is right. Ultimately, she ends up swearing to protect Momo for the rest of her life, under the pretense of making sure the Demon Lord doesn't do anything bad.
  • In Love with the Mark: Platonic example. She's originally dispatched to Gremory's Bar to take out a demon there, quickly identifies Momo as her target, and ends up getting along swimmingly with both her and Gremory (whose status as a demon completely flies under Nicole's radar).
  • Shout-Out: One of her voice lines mentions that her favorite character in her favorite book was Solomon. While it's easy to think that said book might be The Bible, it could also be The Lesser Key of Solomon, also known as the Ars Goetia.

"Is this the company that provides a place to stay for wandering travelers? Fuu fuu, pleased to be in your care."
The Gronia Department of National Security's best operative, she's known for her leadership skills toward other soldiers.

She is one of the main protagonists of "Carnival".

  • Badass Biker: She's particularly fond of her motorbike, and rides in on it when deployed. She also has the general look down, between her long duster and dual SMGs.
  • Berserk Button: Even though she's fighting for the Gronian government in a civil war where the rebels have done some especially heinous things, her hostility toward the rebels still stands out. Jacques mentioning that he admired her mother is revealed to have been her breaking point, and she took the opportunity to assassinate him, the mission be damned.
  • But Now I Must Go: By the end of Episode 11, she's delaying Thagirion alongside Mors for as long as they can until Thagirion starts a Qliphoth Game.
  • Clear My Name: The apparent plot of her side of "Carnival" is about her finding the sniper that killed Gronian rebel leader Jacques just as she was about to take him in. She was actually invoking this to hide the fact that she killed Jacques after spotting Montagne, as Jacques' autopsy proved that the bullet wasn't from a sniper rifle.
  • Don't Tell Mama: She dearly loves her mother, and wants to keep any knowledge of her spy activities, which involve various morally questionable actions, away from her.
  • Face Death with Dignity: With Maestra Nequitia finally taking form inside her and about to tear her way out of her body, Leah doesn't show even the slightest sign of panic as she converses with the Shadow about the life they shared, before resigning herself to the knowledge that she's done some terrible things in her life and will do so in the future as the Maestra.
  • The Greatest Story Never Told: Her bio mentions that she has many accomplisments that cannot be disclosed to the public, such as foiling the plans of the internationally wanted Replacer Knight.
  • Happily Failed Suicide: She recounts having once attempted to kill her mother and then herself after seeing her start falling victim to dementia, only for Angela to step in and stop them from actually dying, and she and Angela have been very close-knit ever since. Of course, this is entirely Pragmatic Villainy on the part of Angela, who's actually Carmen in disguise and can't let Maestra's vessel just die on her watch.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: She considers Angela, who helps her care for her mother, as close to her as family, but denies any romantic attraction.
  • Hidden Depths: The emblem obtained for clearing "Carnival" suggests that she was a skilled musician before turning to espionage.
  • It Has Been an Honor: She thanks Chris for letting her and her mom be able to witness her mom's song be played, even calling her by her full name, and tells her that she is a war hero worthy of her Medal of Honor. It's heavily implied that she sensed Maestra Nequitia about to awaken within her and accepted her imminent death.
  • Knight in Sour Armor: She knows Gronia is a war-torn hellhole and isn't fond of either the rebels or her superiors, but she carries out her duties anyway for the sake of the country and her mother.
Revenant: My country is sick and weak. But that doesn't mean I can just turn my back on it... You wouldn't do that to your family.
  • Leitmotif:
  • Meaningful Name: "Revenant" ends up being quite the appropriate moniker for her, as Leah was given a second chance at life after Maestra's emergence, but only as a vessel for the reborn Maestra herself.
  • Support Party Member: Her specialty is supporting multi-unit Soldiers (the Faceless Goons deployed in squads) with various buffs while also reducing the damage enemies deal to Soldiers.

A soldier in the Gronian army, Christina has been awarded the Gronia Medal of Honor for surviving countless battles. In truth, she hid her status as a Counter and relied on her powers to survive.

She is a main protagonist in "Carnival" and "Goodbye Tanaberin".

  • Animal Motifs: Revenant compares her to a red panda. Chris has never seen one before, so Louise tells her it's an animal that looks cute and acts cute.
  • Child Soldier: Though she tries to deny it, it's implied she was drafted into the army at a young age.
  • Fake Ultimate Hero: Despite being a Medal of Honor recipient, she earned it mostly by keeping herself alive using her status as an unregistered Counter rather than by doing anything actually valiant.
  • Imaginary Friend: She consults with "Mr. Imaginary Friend" about various thoughts, both out loud and in her internal monologue. Alex catches her doing so at one point.
  • Lovable Coward: She puts her own survival above almost all else, even hiding her Counter status to avoid getting dangerous missions, and she aims to desert and escape Gronia. However, when Revenant needs her, she does come through.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Her primary goal throughout "Carnival" is to get the hell out of Gronia by any means necessary before the war gets her killed.
  • Shout-Out: When Moneka tells her that an armed person is closing in on them, Chris says they should "make like a tree and get out of here".
  • Sixth Ranger: By the end of Episode 11, Sooyeon mentions that Chris is on the run from Gronia's government and is Coffin Company's newest employee. The CEO notes that it's most likely temporary until after Thagirion's upcoming Qliphoth Game.
  • Super-Soldier: She's been hiding her Counter powers as a member of the Gronia army.

  • Unreliable Narrator: While reminiscing with Biblide about how she and Benedict got him in trouble for reading all the books in the orphanage, Biblide corrects him, saying that he got in trouble because she found and read his dirty magazines in his closet.

  • Cerebus Retcon: "Three to Three" heavily implies that her squid-ink spaghetti looks like Fragments of Truth because a Fragment was implanted in her after she was captured during a mission.
  • Depower: Downplayed. In "Three to Three", she finds herself unable to heal an injured girl imprisoned with her during a mission despite her Counter Watch working just fine, but she recovers her powers eventually. This implies that her body was adjusting to the Fragment of Truth dwelling within her.
  • Lethal Chef: In "Great Witch's Legacy", her entry for a Halloween cooking contest is a concoction so disgusting that it comes to life. It's also implied this wasn't the first time (with one other incident shown in Elizabeth's Counter Case). She's banned from all kitchens to the point she's actively unaware of her terrible cooking.

"Thank you for using Horizon Finance. As your partner, I pledge to provide all the kinetic support you require. Please feel free to leverage my services at your discretion."
"Dimension-hopping Combat Vehicle Escort for Exodus Fleet of Mankind ··· Simurgh activated. Horizon, ready to engage in combat mode." (Awakened)

An android and the boss of Horizon Finance. Her body is a specialized platform from another world that was apparently designed for escorting interstellar convoys. Future-at-War retrieved its body from the Counterside and designated it Cold Case #137.

She first appears in Bottom of the Shade, and she's the protagonist of For the Uncrying.
  • Achilles' Heel: Despite her body being Made of Indestructium, her AI is still vulnerable to Corruption Rays through prolonged exposure. As a result, Shena - who is a Shadow - is the only obstacle that can even slow her down. Additionally, like most machines, she has a limited power supply that she ends up having to manage throughout her quest. This is reflected in her passive ability in-game; when she Turns Red, she doesn't even flinch from most attacks, but her health drains over time so she can only fight for so long before she shuts down.
  • Archaic Weapon for an Advanced Age: Lampshaded by Cold Case Horizon, who notes that she's still using antiquated weaponry (a pair of swords) as a cutting-edge combat android; this is in spite of her choosing to wield a lead pipe in her regular form.
  • Benevolent Boss: Despite her usually robotic tone and occasional bickering with Rita, Horizon has her employees' best interests at heart.
  • Berserk Button: In For the Uncrying, Rivet manages to press it by threatening to harm Rachel. Horizon, who up to that point had no interest in fighting Rivet, promptly swings her pipe at her and in the ensuing fight, leaves her with every single limb broken.
  • The Berserker: When she reaches 50% HP, she changes how she fights, opting to instead go for large swings that inflict knockback.
  • Big Damn Heroes: In the climax of "Carnival", she and Lyudmila appear when Elysium Philharmonic has the Maze Division, Mors, and Chris cornered.
  • Breakout Character: She received an Awakened form very soon after her release, thanks to her popularity.
  • Catchphrase: Her usual exclamation of surprise is "Oh my diodes."
  • Cute Bruiser: Her small, delicate-looking humanoid combat body packs an alarming amount of strength. It's mentioned that debtors often have trouble taking her seriously until she starts swinging the pipe around.
  • Deadpan Snarker: For a robot, she's got quite the knack for witty comebacks.
  • Death Is Cheap: In Bottom of the Shade, she gives Rita and Dash permission to dismantle her drone body so they can use her power source to make a distress call. She survives via a backup copy of her AI, albeit without her memories of the event (until ALT Squad recovers her memory chip).
  • Evil Debt Collector: She's not quite as bad as most examples of the trope, but she has no problem resorting to physical persuasion to get her clients to cough up their debts.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: Her pupils are white and circled by white Tron Lines in her irises, reflecting her mechanical nature.
  • Explosive Overclocking: When down to half health, Horizon enters an enhanced mode that greatly empowers her attacks and other abilities, but drains health over time.
  • Godzilla Threshold: When Wilbur summons multiple Britra via an Artifact of Doom, Horizon decides to activate her body's combat form. She notes that she very much wanted to use it at various points previously, but ultimately held back from doing so as the Administration would likely shoot first and ask questions later in response.
  • Heroic BSoD: For the Uncrying shows that her usual state following Rita and Dash's deaths is to hole herself up in her office, replaying memories of them over and over and not responding to any external stimulus except someone touching her. A throwaway line suggests she's been like this long enough to go broke from being mentally unable to run her business.
  • Humans Are Bastards: Stands by this trope, noting that money tends to bring out people's ugly sides, but her personality and experiences make her words seem insincere. This all stemmed from her creators at Future-At-War being extremely callous toward their AI creations, and most of her "siblings" being immediately Driven to Suicide upon activation upon the realization that their fate is to fight and die so that humans wouldn't have to. After Ember entrusted her with the Cold Case frame and informed her that her creations were all for the sake of protecting humanity, Horizon was initially skeptical, but over the course of her existence and her revenge quest against Wilbur, she meets a number of kind people and ultimately decides that Humans Are Special in spite of their flaws... but Wilbur himself is still a scumbag who deserves to die.
  • Icy Blue Eyes: Her light blue eyes reflect her cold and stoic nature.
  • I Gave My Word: Credibility is important in her line of work, so Horizon takes it very seriously; when she makes a promise, she keeps it unless the other party betrays her trust first. This also applies to her promise to Doctor Ember to protect humanity, which she held onto for years after her release in spite of her initially sour view of humanity.
  • Implacable Man: It doesn't matter how far you run or what you hide behind: she will get her debts collected. Oh, and she's also a Nigh-Invulnerable android that can crumple Powered Armor like a tin can, so you'd better pay up.
  • Jack Bauer Interrogation Technique: She's known for doing this with uncooperative debtors, and she puts it to good use against a bunch of hapless Jehuty Biotech mooks by coldly breaking bones through their armor while interrogating them about Wilbur's location.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: Horizon Finance's initial money problems stem largely from Horizon preferring various forms of Aggressive Negotiations that usually result in a lot of property damage, which comes out of her budget. Having Rita on board solved the issue as she's much better at intimidation.
  • Leotard of Power: While she wear a pelvic curtain that hides enough to make it ambiguous if she's going commando or not,a silent update has her covering move just enough to show that she wears a leotard.
  • Loan Shark: Her profession, though she ends up being a rare heroic example, and is known for charging an unusually low interest rate. Plus, the debtors she and her crew primarily go after usually had it coming anyway. By the end of "For the Uncrying", she's endorsed as an operative by the Administration and goes legit, primarily offering financial support to civilians and mercenaries struggling to make ends meet.
  • Made of Indestructium: Nothing thrown at her in "For the Uncrying" even leaves a mark on her: bullets, explosives, getting a building dropped on her, sinking deep into the ocean, she shrugs all of it off and keeps coming back for more.
  • My Greatest Failure:
    • In the epilogue of Bottom of the Shade, she tries to buy the Eternium gathered from Ministra and Spira's remains as a way of taking responsibility for failing to keep her employees safe. She claims that it's just to secure a power source for herself, but Sooyeon notes that the abnormally high price Horizon offered says otherwise.
    • During For the Uncrying, it is shown that in the years following the disastrous expedition, Horizon has been replaying the memories of the event and simulating the missing bits countless times in her head, and one particular memory she keeps playing back is herself lamenting that she didn't bring her combat frame to the expedition, as their situation would be very different if she had.
  • Not So Stoic: Horizon is much more emotionally-driven than she'll ever admit. Her mourning of Rita and Dash, in particular, is very much human; at one point, she seemingly breaks down and starts begging them to come back.
  • Pipe Pain: Her preferred weapon and Signature Item. Despite everything else about her being advanced, she wields a mundane pipe, which was apparently given to her by a client.
  • Possessing a Dead Body: Her body, Cold Case 137, was once known as Simurgh, a Demon Lord Apostle.
  • Power Gives You Wings: Her Awakened form equips her with a set of mechanical wings and changes her from a ground unit to an air unit.
  • Rei Ayanami Expy: She shows a lot of traits of the archetype, being a short, pale Robot Girl with white hair whose cold exterior and robotic personality hides a surprisingly soft heart.
  • Ridiculously Human Robot: A very advanced AI with its own conscience. If it weren't for her voice gaining a mechanical filter when she Turns Red and her in-game Mech tag, it would be hard to even tell that she's an android. In her Lifetime Contracts, Horizon is referred to as an "employee" rather than a "machine" like most Mechs.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: As soon as Jessica lets slip Wilbur's location, Horizon becomes single-mindedly focused on hunting him down and making him pay for both his debt and for Rita and Dash. The rest of "For the Uncrying" is essentially Horizon doing just that, inflicting an extended Mook Horror Show on Wilbur and his goons along the way and single-handedly dismantling most of his company. She claims it's just to collect the money she owes, but when she finally has him at her mercy, she makes it clear that it's become extremely personal. Downplayed in that she doesn't actually kill anyone other than inflicting a Karmic Death on Wilbur, with the deaths in the process being the work of Wilbur himself, but she still leaves an impressive trail of destruction in her wake.
  • Shout-Out: In For the Uncrying, she evades SWAT 4 and the Black Tide by jumping into a blast furnace. She promptly comes back out unscathed, much to their disbelief, and quips that she's not here from the future to stop the rise of the machines or Judgment Day.
  • The Spock: Tends to speak in very robotic terms.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: She's cold and emotionless to just about everyone, but she is very much capable of forming close emotional bonds, as she did with Dash and Rita. Her Leitmotif being titled "Dash to the Horizon" should speak volumes. When forming a Lifetime Contract with her, she insists that your working relationship is built on credit and not trust... but then cracks a smile when she tells you that she may answer kindly when you ask for her. Cold Case Horizon's dialogue shows her warm side more.
  • Super-Powered Robot Meter Maids: One of the most formidable and advanced robots in the setting happens to be a mere loan shark. Of course, that's not her original purpose; she's an escaped Super Prototype from Future-at-War, who joined the loan shark business to try and validate her belief that Humans Are Bastards.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: In Frozen Corridors, she expresses a particular dislike of Mors beyond her usual caustic personality, likely due to her considering Mors complicit in the deaths of Rita and Dash by not acting in time to stop them from being corrupted. Mors likewise only tolerates her because they have a common enemy.
  • Thou Shalt Not Kill: Despite relentlessly plowing through everything in her way in For the Uncrying, she makes a point of not killing anyone. She's willing to break bones and destroy machinery, but she never inflicts a fatal wound on a person, intentionally or otherwise.
  • Worf Had the Flu: She uses a drone body in Bottom of the Shade due to her combat body being in for repairs, and thus is unable to help out beyond providing guidance. As For the Uncrying shows, if she had her regular body, every threat in the way would've gotten demolished in short order.

"You'd rather borrow my skills than my money? What a strange client you are. Did you do your research on interest rates?"

An enforcer of Horizon Finance, her no-nonsense attitude and quick-to-anger temper has gotten the firm a very ominous reputation among the public eye.

She is one of the protagonists of "Bottom of the Shade".
  • Balance Buff: Was given a buff to her attack stat, increasing it by about 30%.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: As the daughter of a well-known mob family, she was subjected to a rough lifestyle. Losing her parents to criminal politics and executing all of the Arsenicos' rivals, starting with her scheming uncle, has made her very uncaring towards a lot of things.
  • Dead All Along: "Bottom of the Shade" opens with her meeting the CEO in an abandoned bar to talk. At the end of the storyline, it's revealed that the bar was an environment generated by Replacer Rook for the CEO to speak with her soul, as this takes place after their Shadow forms were killed by Fenrir Squad.
  • Drowning My Sorrows: She wishes she could do this, but she's especially unhappy that increased alcohol tolerance is one of the fringe benefits of being a Counter.
  • Expy: A dead-ring to Kal'tdit from Arknights, down to being a Support-type.
  • Extra-ore-dinary: Her Counter abilities allow her to manipulate metal, letting her summon metal projectiles or even repair machines. Fittingly, this also makes her exceptionally good against Mechs.
  • Familiar: One of her Counter abilities is summoning a giant winged monster called Omerta. Despite its lack of gender featurs(other than a pronounced chest), Rita mentions that it's female.
  • Fallen Hero: While hardly the most best person before, her genuine love for Dash was one of her noble traits; after she is corrupted into Ministra, she doesn’t even have that, horrifically mutilating Dash to fix her.
  • Internal Retcon: When talking to the CEO, she claims that after turning into Ministra to save Dash, she bids the girl farewell before disappearing into the Counterside as Dash is rescued by a TASKFORCE responding to their distress call, which is no longer jammed by Sollicitatio. This is, of course, only what she hoped would have happened, and she and the CEO both know it (especially since Coffin Company is the one that killed them both in their Shadow forms).
  • Kick The Son Of A Bitch: She mostly hunts down criminals and lawyers who are indebted to Horizon.
  • Meaningful Name: Omertà is a code of honour in the Mafia to never go to the authorities. Makes sense she had to learn early on to rely on no-one but herself.
  • Morality Chain: Horizon Finance as a whole, but especially Dash. Sollicitatio uses this to get her to become a servant of Thagirion.
  • Navel-Deep Neckline: Has her shirt open all the way down to her navel.
  • Parental Abandonment: Her father, the don of the Arsenico Family, was killed in a car bombing orchestrated by her uncle and the Matchmaker. Her mother, unaware that her husband's "construction business" was a front, had also died in a car bombing by the Arsenicos' rivals, to threaten the Family's goons into obedience.
  • Tempting Fate: She allows Wilbur to go on his expedition mainly so Dash would be traumatized and lose her blind faith in others, confident that at least she can keep herself and Dash alive if things went wrong. They go disastrously wrong, leading to the pair becoming Ministra and Spira.
  • Together in Death: The framing device for "Bottom of the Shade" is the CEO conversing with her in an Afterlife Antechamber generated by Replacer Rook, learning about the incident that turned her and Dash into Ministra and Spira, and finally reuniting their souls to let them pass on peacefully.
  • Traumatic Superpower Awakening: The intro text of Interlude 10 in "Bottom of the Shade" implies that Rita gained her Counter ability after losing her mom to a car bomb.
Those who became a Counter due to their trauma gain abilities that can address the cause of their trauma. However, it is unknown if their abilities can actually help them get over the trauma.
  • Weapon of X-Slaying: She deals additional damage and effects to enemy Mechs.

"I'm Dash, from Horizon Finance! I came here because I heard someone was looking for me?"

The newest and youngest member of Horizon Finance, charged with mortgage interest collection. A young girl who works to pay off her parents' debt.

She is one of the protagonists of "Bottom of the Shade".
  • Abusive Parents: Of the neglectful and gambling-compulsive type. Her parents left her in a room to make dolls while bugs crawled over her. When Rita saw this, she then took her in as "collateral". The parents objected, because if she got injured, how would they make money to gamble?
  • Break the Cutie: So, so much. Her first breaking point comes when she's betrayed by Wilbur, who refuses to pull her and Rita up and instead makes her humiliate herself, then abandons them in the Counterside. She manages to hold herself together to help Rita escape, only to be completely broken by Ministra "reassembling" her, and she spends the rest of her days as a Shadow, constantly tormented by the agony of her transformation.
  • Character Catchphrase: "Go away, tear fairy! Shoo!" At the end of "For the Uncrying", Horizon uses the phrase one last time to symbolize her starting to move on from Dash and Rita's deaths.
  • Dramatic Irony: A few of her lines as a playable unit fall under this, with this version of Dash being oblivious to how her main counterpart's story plays out:
    • She notes that Mina seems familiar, and wonders if that means she and Mina could be friends soon. As we know from Episode 1, Dash (as Spira) dies by Mina's hand.
    • In her Lifetime Contract cutscene, she says something that strikes a chord with the CEO, who knows full well about her fate in the main timeline:
Dash: Oh, these are gardening gloves. I'm going to swing by the park in front of the office. I'm sure foraging some edible grass will come in handy for when we get stranded in the Counterside! Huh?! W-why are you crying? Was it something I said? Go away, tear fairy! Shoo!
  • Fatal Flaw: Naivete. Dash's blind optimism and trusting nature is a constant point of concern for Rita and ultimately, her deciding to trust Wilbur and convincing Rita to give him one more chance leads to everything going horribly wrong.
  • The Heart: Her bright, optimistic personality helps improve the moods of her colleagues and brings them closer together, even if Rita refuses to admit it. In return, Horizon dotes over her, and under her harsh exterior, Rita cares deeply for her as well.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: Having been treated as a burden by her parents and deemed a troublemaker by Rita, Dash's opinion of herself is much the same. However, that doesn't stop her from remaining cheery and trying to help where she can.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: Even as Wilbur butts heads with everyone else on their dive, Dash continues to take his side and give him chances. He takes full advantage of this and laughs about it in her face as he backstabs her and Rita.
  • Innocent Innuendo: Suggests to Rita that they should take a shower together... to save water. Rita is not amused by the fact that Dash doesn't understand the issue.
  • Limit Break: Aerial Vortex.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: In "Bottom of the Shade", none of the corruption or pain that she and Rita go through would've happened if she hadn't tried to convince Rita and Horizon to give Wilbur one more chance at his research. The fact that she recognizes this in-universe causes her to try harder to make up for it, unfortunately leading to even more trouble. Somewhat subverted by Mors's words implying that Thagirion would have found a way to corrupt them anyway.
  • Playboy Bunny: Her "Serving Onstage" skin.
  • The Pollyanna: A very optimistic and happy-go-lucky girl, despite pretty much nothing in life going her way.
  • Sinister Scythe: Her weapon named Dangler.
  • Sword Beam: She attacks with gusts of Razor Wind launched from her scythe.
  • Together in Death: Thanks to the CEO, her soul is reunited with Rita after death, with both of them back to normal, and they pass on together.
  • Walking Spoiler: It's very hard to discuss her as a character without spoiling two whole Side Stories and then some.
  • Wide-Eyed Idealist: She genuinely believes in the best of others, which simultaneously annoys Rita and makes her more protective of Dash.

    Rachel Dodds
Voiced by: KR: Jung Yujung JP:
Role: Operator
Rarity: SSR
Subtitle: Future Maestro
Command Skill: Artist's Touch (Defender > Striker > Sniper)
"Is having a robot for your CEO popular nowadays? Well, no matter. Name's Rachel Dodds, a future graffiti virtuoso. Let me know if you've got some good graffiti ideas."

A graffiti artist from the 6th Refuge District who leaves beautiful graffiti on the walls she passes by.

She first appears in "For the Uncrying".
  • Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: She tries to be this to Horizon, assuming she's just a kid with a serious case of Chuunibyou. Horizon is more irritated by her attention than anything, at least on the surface.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Horizon mentions that she once beat people up for not liking her art. Rachel insists that it was a fair fight.
  • Eccentric Artist: She sees her Operator duties as creating art.
  • Friendly Target: When Jehuty Biotech's goons show up at Horizon's office to hunt her down, they find Rachel instead and torture her for information and to draw out Horizon. After being tipped off about this by Shena, Horizon arrives to find her almost dead, but she and Minwoo do manage to get her to a hospital and she makes a full recovery.
  • Morality Pet: While Horizon usually sees her attention as Condescending Compassion due to Rachel not believing she's actually a machine, the android does ultimately care for her. Not only does she drop everything to save Rachel after learning that she's in danger, but in the epilogue, she hires Rachel as her first new employee.
  • The Pollyanna: Very happy and optimistic of all the orphans at the orphanage, she feels it's her duty as the oldest.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: With Horizon. The android is often annoyed by her and Rachel sometimes finds it hard to humor her due to not believing that Horizon is actually the android boss of Horizon Finance, but she is the closest thing Horizon has to a friend after Rita and Dash's passing. By the end of the storyline she and Horizon get along much better, though Horizon being Horizon means she'll still have plenty of barbs directed at Rachel.

HRT Berry

    As a group
  • Ms. Fanservice: They're a streamer/idol group, so of course they dress to appeal with skimpy outfits. Gaeun and Miya have rather more conservative outfits in their base forms, but show a lot more skin when Rearmed.

"Nice to meet you. I'm Choi Ina from Tomorrow Entertainment. I know we just met, but I'd like to propose a partnership. Oh, here's my business card."

The manager of HRT Berry. A businesswoman who used to work in the entertainment industry, she quit her job to start her own NetTube business. She handles the logistics of the group.
  • Bad Boss: Her cases show she was initially this to the girls, driving them hard, breaking labour laws by working them overtime without giving them overtime bonuses, paying barely above minimum wage, and being extremely strict, mainly getting away with it because Lumi was the only one who understood how bad she wasnote . By her final case, she has a Heel Realization and becomes far better, only being strict when she absolutely has to be.
  • Berserk Button: According to her bio, she ruthlessly bans all viewers who refer to her as Madame.
  • Da Chief: Tends to have a very strict schedule for the girls. By her last Counter Case, she stops being inflexible with them.
  • Status Buff: Her Special raises an ally's attack and gives them immunity to Hitstun.
  • Support Party Member: Distinctly one in that she can't attack. Her basic attack is instead used to raise her Special.

Role: Ranger

"I'm Gaeun, leader of HRT Berry. We'll do missions for you if you donate to us. That's all."

The current leader of the group, an orphan girl from the wartorn country of Gronia.
  • Big Damn Heroes: At the climax of "Hearing You", Gaeun and the Maze Division arrive just in time to save Lucid from Jehuty Biotech employees masquerading as Administration personnel.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Very attached to the CEO, such that she turns a rehearsal dance with Bomi into a competition, with the winner being the CEO's dance partner.
  • Dreaming of Times Gone By: In "Hearing You", Gaeun admits to Ina and the CEO that she's been having recurring dreams about her past as of late, specifically her imprisonment in Gronia. The CEO quickly deduces that they're not actually her own memories, but rather dreams sent to her by someone else, as she can see clearly in the dream despite having been blind at the time.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: Has yellow irises. It's stated that the CEO paid for her surgery to regain her eyesight.
  • Hot for Teacher: Her affection for the CEO, whom she calls "Teacher"/"Sensei".
  • Jack of All Stats: She has high damage, good health for a Ranger, and a kit that packs disables, stuns, and lots of area-of-effect damage against both Air and Ground enemies; very few units can boast such diversity.
  • I Owe You My Life: The CEO rescued her from the war-torn country of Gronia, paid for the surgery to restore her eyesight, and got her citizenship at Ground One. Doubles as a Rescue Romance for her.
  • Ornamental Weapon: She carries two pistols, but only ever uses one in-game. However, in certain Dispatch missions her chibi sprite has an animation where she wields both at once.
  • Playboy Bunny: Has two skins of her wearing a bunny outfit, one being a Palette Swap of the other. The black bunny's voicelines are more Yandere and gives her red eyes (her fourth Counter Case reveals that it was an enchanted outfit given by Witch Cafe Strega).
  • Rei Ayanami Expy: She has silvery hair and yellow eyes, is often soft-spoken and unemotional except around the CEO to whom she has Undying Loyalty, comes from a troubled background and was hospitalized on the CEO's dime, and displays romantic attraction to the CEO. Gaeun is a sterling member of the archetype.
  • Security Blanket: While in captivity, she possessed a stuffed animal that she held onto for comfort, but later passed onto Lucid to comfort her. When Lucid tries to return it after their reunion, Gaeun tells her to keep it, saying that she has friends to support her now.
  • When She Smiles: Her first stream at HRT Berry was relatively underwhelming until she was told to think of Teacher, and her resulting smile made her the most popular member of HRT Berry, to Lumi's chagrin.

"Here comes Lumi, the next leader of HRT Berry! How many cameras do you got? Just one or two won't do me justice."

A member of HRT Berry, and the unofficial second-in-command. Born from a middle-class family, she dreams of becoming a big star.
  • Attention Whore: Loves the spotlight, and the attention it brings.
  • Jumped at the Call: She applied to HRT Berry as soon as she got her Counter powers.
  • Limit Break: Go! Luminator, a giant monster truck she summons.
  • Street Smart: Compared to foreigner Gaeun, shy Miya, and catlike Bomi, Lumi has the most knowledge of show business, and has called out Ina in the latter's Counter Cases.

"Viewers, mm... Hi! So, as of today, I'm working at this company. Please wish me good luck— Oh... Erm, Boss, I've got this mission from my viewers. Could you look at the camera for a second?"

A member of HRT Berry, and also their cameraman and editor. Relatively shy and quiet, even on camera.
  • Balance Buff: Her Rearm improves her damage and her buffs.
  • Glass Cannon: Her Ultimate is one of the strongest in the game, but she fires very slowly and she doesn't have a lot of defense.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Her chat typings are similar to ones on Twitch or StreamLabs.
    • A framed photo in the background of her Rearm references a tweet by Mori Calliope.
  • Weight Woe: Her summary notes that she used to be heftier when she started streaming. In her Rearm's touch animation, she gets visibly upset after pinching her stomach fat.
