    Crossover
  • In Azumanga und Panzer:
    • Sakaki and Nonna are cousins, an idea likely derived from their similar appearances as tall girls with long, dark hair.
    • Implied with Kagura and Minamo "Nyamo" Kurosawa. The former's full name in this fic is Kagura Kurosawa, which means that she might be related to Nyamo.
  • In Anime X Marvel:
  • In Avengers: Infinite Wars, Ilyana, one of the Nightsisters of Dathomir and essentially the adopted daughter of Wanda Maximoff, is revealed to be Asajj Ventress's cousin; her mother and Asajj's mother were sisters. Shortly after this, it is revealed that Asajj's father was another manifestation of Ego, making Asajj Peter Quill's half-sister.
  • In The Baleful Bureau, it turns out that Jesse Faden is the sister of Betrand Baudelaire, making her the aunt of the Baudelaire Siblings. This is especially notable after she is given custody of them, as she is the only guardian of the Baudelaires who is actually their blood relative.
  • BlazBlue Alternative: Remnant: Because of their status as Murakumo Units cloned from the same genetic progenitor, Penny and Noel are considered siblings here. Penny even openly calls Noel her younger sister.
  • Bonds of Souls, Derailing Destiny has Nagisa wish to be Mami's sister to get away from her abusive parents and after Mami showed her some genuine kindness. As a result no one ever realized such a wish was made.note .
  • Breath of the Wild: four different characters are made to be related in this novelized adaptation of the gamenote .
    • Teba and Revali were unrelated in the main game, as Revali was the youngest Champion, and thus had no children or descendants of his own. In this fanfic, he still doesn't, but he did have a sister named Takki who did have children. Her line continued on until it reached Teba, making Revali his ancestral uncle.
    • There's an implied blood relation between Kass's children and Kaneli, as one of Kass's children calls Kaneli her grandfather. If this is not just an expression children use in reference to Kaneli, that means that either Kass or his wife Amali is one of Kaneli's children.
  • The Bridge, a crossover between My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and several giant monster movies, including Godzilla:
    • Pipsqueak and Octavia are cousins.
    • According to the spinoff The Bridge: Humanity's Stand, Marshal Stacker Pentecost adopted Miki Saegusa as well as Mako Mori.
    • Raiga was made a member of Godzilla's species and considered an honorary cousin.
    • Princess Cadance is the daughter of Princess Amore (time travel was involved since Amore lived over 1000 years ago).
    • Prince Blueblood is a descendant of Princess Platinum.
    • Flash Sentry and Indigo Zap are cousins. Their ancestor is Commander Hurricane. Gloriosa Daisy and Timber Spruce are their second cousins since their father Salty Sentry is the cousin of Flash's father Stalwart.
    • The Windigos raped Princesses Melpomene and Hymnia and conceived the three Sirens: Adagio Dazzle, Aria Blaze, and Sonata Dusk. Adagio and Sonata are both Melpomene's daughters but have different fathers, while Aria is their cousin as Melpomene and Hymnia were sisters.
    • Xenilla (Spacegodzilla) and Mothra Lea are technically half-siblings since Xenilla was born from a mixture of Godzilla Senior's blood and Lea's mother's magic.
    • Sunburst's parents adopted Starlight and Moonbeam Glimmer.
    • Dr. Daisuke Serizawa from the 1954 Godzilla film is the uncle of Dr. Ishiro Serizawa from the 2014 remake.
  • In the Massive Multiplayer Crossover CATE Academy, British mascots Postman Pat and Fireman Sam are established to be cousins, which by extension makes Pat's son Julian and Sam's niece and nephew, Sarah and James, second cousins.
  • Child of the Storm has a lot of this, mostly covered on its Tangled Family Tree page. However, some stand-out examples...
    • Lily's mother's maiden name was Grey. Which makes Jean Grey Harry's second cousin (as is Maddie Pryor is Jean's stolen-at-birth twin). Oh, and Lily is also the new White Phoenix of the Crown, tying in the Endless.
    • Carol Danvers is revealed as a descendant of Peggy Carter and Steve Rogers (much to the surprise, shock, and self-recrimination of the latter — though Peggy was only barely and unnoticeably pregnant when he 'died'), with her grandmother, their daughter, having been passed off as Peggy's much younger sister.
    • Diana is Harry's third cousin on his dad's side of the family, the daughter of Hercules and Hippolyta (though since it's Marvel's heroic Hercules, it was a consensual and happy encounter), and adopted as a Ward of the Crown by Odin and Frigga to protect her from Hera.
  • Cinders and Ashes: the Chronicles of Kamen Rider Dante ties Shimashima, a faceless, voiceless character who is only namedropped once in Re:CREATORS to Setsuna and, by extension, Altair, by being her father and grandfather respectively.
  • Code Prime: In the game Code Geass: Lost Colors, Rai's lineage is rather vague, with the most direct relation he has to any of the characters being to Kaguya, as his mother was a distant relative of the Sumeragi family. Here, he's revealed to be the illegitimate son of Emperor Charles Zi Britannia and Sakura Kururugi, Genbu's older sister, making him a member of the Britannian Royal Family and Suzaku's paternal cousin. And while he may look like a teenager, that's because he didn't age during the seven years he spent in the Kamine Island Thought Elevator. Meaning he's Lelouch and Nunnally's older half-brother.
  • Codex Equus:
    • The Trimortidae, full stop. Many members are based on real-life people such as Stevie Ray Vaughan (Moon Ray Vaughoof), Jesse Garon Presley (Bossa Nova Heartstrings; Elvis Presley's stillborn older twin brother), and Alan Rickman (Curtain Call). All of them are completely unrelated to each other, but here they were adopted by the Three Deaths after death, either as siblings or cousins. This also applies to members who are based on fictional characters such as Death of the Endless (Sola Mors), Knight Shade, and ALICE/Adelais. Having familial ties with Trimortidae members despite not being part of the group means that you're related to said group as well, Blue Suede Heartstrings.
    • Prince Blueblood and his family are blood descendants of Princess Platinum, with the most obvious sign of their heritage being their tall heights when no such connections were apparent in canon. And while he's still Celestia's nephew, here Blueblood is explicitly stated to be adopted after Celestia discovered that his birth parents were emotionally and psychologically abusing him.
    • Prince Léon was a one-bit character who only appeared in a French My Little Pony magazine as Celestia's young Alicorn "cousin", yet his heavy resemblance to Blueblood is not explained. Here, he's technically Blueblood's biological "son", having been magically created as a karmic backlash to all of Blueblood's good deeds.
  • Dad's Old Shirt is a Calvin and Hobbes fanfic that ties into Peanuts. Calvin is biologically Lucy's son but was Happily Adopted as an infant by Patty and Mark (a.k.a. Marcie).
  • The Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Charmed (1998) fic Dark Clouds May Hang makes Xander Harris the son of Cole Turner and Phoebe Halliwell; in the future where Wyatt turned evil, the Halliwells sent Xander back in time for his own protection while binding his magic, until Chris decides to look him up after his own conception in the past so they can start making arrangements for Cole's resurrection.
  • Daughter of Darkness, a crossover between My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and Hellsing, has Alucard and Princess Luna as Scootaloo's birth parents.
  • An Extraordinary Journey features a few of these; not only do characters speculate that the resemblance between SGC Major Lauren Satterfield and the Number Eight Cylon models is because the Eights were based on a distant relative of Satterfield's, but it is eventually revealed that Willow Rosenberg and Dawn Summers are formerly-Ascended Ancients who were actually sisters in their original lives; Athena/Willow chose to take human form again as an experiment, and Hera/Dawn bonded herself to the Key to help trap it and prevent Glory using it to destroy the universe.
  • Fairy May Cry: Dante and Vergil's mother Eva is the older sister of Layla Heartfilia, Lucy's mother, making them cousins.
    • The Devil Hand Arc reveals that Mirajane, Elfman, and Lisanna are distant relatives of Angel/Sorano and Yukino, all of them being descendants of a mortal priestess that Sparda was forced to sacrifice in order to seal Temen-ni-gru.
    • The sequel story Devil's Retribution reveals that Sparda adopted Mavis and Zera when they were children, making them Dante and Vergil's older half-sisters, Lucy's cousins, and Nero's half-sisters.
  • Yui Komori and Tsukune Aono are siblings in the Fantasia Times series. They were born as Evangeline and Adam Alakami, but after the murder of their birth parents, the two were split up and sent to be raised by different families.
  • Fates Collide:
    • Jeanne d'Arc is Jaune Arc's sister.
    • Mash Kyrielight is Lancelot and Guinevere's daughter, rather than her being possessed by his son Galahad, who doesn't exist here.
    • Reika Rikudou is Jack the Ripper's mother.
    • Mercury Black and Ushiwakamaru are siblings.
    • Mordred is actually the daughter of Arturia and Diarmuid.
    • Fran is Victor Frankenstein's biological daughter, rather than his creation.
  • Frankie Rules makes Mac from Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends the cousin of Tommy from Robotboy. This is because they both have similar character designs.
  • in Grim Tales from Down Below, Jack Skellington is the brother of Grim.
  • In the Jackie Chan Adventures/W.I.T.C.H. crossover Guardians, Wizards, and Kung-Fu Fighters, the Chans and Lins are cousins in the new Merged Reality. Specifically, Uncle and Yan Lin are first cousins, with the rest descending from that point.
  • In the Kim Possible/Grimm crossover A Grimm Possibility and its sequels, Kim's mother Anne is Nick Burkhardt's cousin, making Anne- and thus Kim- a Grimm herself, serving the dual purpose of giving Kim abilities in this crossover series and justifying the family's interaction with Nick.
  • In the Hasbroverse (crossing My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and its earlier generations, along with G.I. Joe, The Transformers and others):
    • Caramel is a cousin of Applejack, Apple Bloom, and Big Mac.
    • Celestia and Luna are the daughters of the Princess Ponies via their magic wands. Also, Megan, Danny, and Molly were their honorary aunts and uncle.
    • Twilight, Firefly, G1 Applejack, and (presumably) Surprise are the ancestors of Twilight Sparkle, Rainbow Dash, FiM Applejack, and Pinkie Pie, respectively.
    • Spike is the grandson of King Spykoran, who's the grownup version of G1 Spike.
  • Halloween Unspectacular: In The Fairly OddParents!, Timmy is revealed to have two kids in the future, with the writers leaving the mother ambiguous to avoid upsetting fans of different pairings. Here, Tammy Turner's mother is revealed to be Dani Phantom.
  • In The Hater Good Pig and Goat are stepsiblings and Melba is also Pig's stepsister.
  • Honoka's Bizarre Adventure: Kotori Minami's father is revealed to be Noriaki Kakyoin. It was from him that Kotori inherited her potential to gain a Stand without the Arrow, along with his ultimate move Emerald Splash.
  • Infinity Crisis;
    • This trope features in a sense in the spin-off fic Distant Cousins, when Alex Danvers of Earth-38 and Carol Danvers of Earth-199999 speculate that their mothers are cousins, but the relevant died on the other's world.
    • In Salvation Run, Mia Queen is actually Laurel's daughter rather than Felicity's, suggesting that history has been changed beyond the Snap.
  • In I am Superman, a crossover between Worm and The Iron Giant, Taylor is the granddaughter of Hogarth Hughes on her mother's side of the family.
  • In the RWBY/Marvel Cinematic Universe Fusion Fic In Shades of Red and Gold, instead of being Taiyang's ex-wife and Yang's biological mother, Raven Branwen is Taiyang's half-sister and Yang's aunt, Qrow is Taiyang's half-brother, and Summer is Yang's biological mother. In an inversion, Taiyang isn't Ruby's father, Tony Stark is (she's also the reason Taiyang walked out on Summer).
  • In Iron and Magic, Tony Stark is revealed to be Harry Potter's biological father; James Potter was rendered sterile on a past mission, and he and Lily selected Tony to be a sperm donor as he looked enough like James that most people wouldn't question it.
  • In James I, James Henry Trotter is revealed to be the Squib older brother of James Potter (his parents' deaths were the result of a memory charm intended to give him a chance at a normal life without missing magic). After graduating from Hogwarts, James and Lily track down James 'Trotter' and re-establish a relationship with him, leading to James Henry becoming the Potters' secret keeper and thus saving them from Voldemort.
  • JoJo New Universe does this to quite a few characters.
    • In canon, J. Geil was simply another assassin of DIO, and his only other family was his mother Enya Geil. Here, however, DIO is J. Geil's father, having become a couple with Enya back in the series' version of Phantom Blood.
    • Sunet Shimmer and Fluttershy are completely unrelated to each other in My Little Pony: Equestria Girls. Here, their counterparts, Asahi Nichibotsu (Sunset Shimmer) and Himari Utsukushicho (Fluttershy), are cousins, with Asahi's father being Himari's uncle.
    • In this fanfic, Jackie Applaine (Applejack) and Caesar Zeppeli are a couple, and two of their children are Gyro Zeppeli and Hol Horse Zeppeli, both who held no connection to each other in any canon. Rarita Zeppeli (Rarity), meanwhile, is the daughter of Applejack and Caesar's unnamed second son, making her Gyro and Hol Horse's paternal niece.
    • Lydia Twilight (Twilight Sparkle) and Robert E. O. Speedwagon become a couple, and their great-great-granddaughter is Iro Dashell (Rainbow Dash), whereas the canon Twilight Sparkle and Rainbow Dash have no familial ties to each other, and Speedwagon never had any descendants.
      • Additionally, Speedwagon and Jonathan Joestar gain a relation in this fic, as Lydia Twilight is Jonathan's adoptive sister, and therefore makes Speedwagon Jonathan's brother-in-law and Joseph's great-uncle.
    • The sons of DIO introduced in Stone Ocean are now the sons of DIO's female minions from Stardust Crusaders. Ungalo's mother is Midler, Rikiel's mother is Mariah, and Donatello's mother is Enya. This also makes J. Geil and Donatello the only full-brother pair out of the siblings.
  • In Kamen Rider Zi-O: Heisei Hero King, Tsukuyomi is the granddaughter of Katuski Bakugo.
  • In Lady Luck's Favor, Fred Jones is Dash Baxter's cousin.
  • The Last Connor;
    • Rebecca 'Newt' Jordan is revealed to be the last living descendant of the Sarah Connor who exists after Terminator Genisys, prompting "Pops" to defend her as though she was his own 'child'.
    • At the same time, Corporal Dwayne Hicks is revealed to be a descendant of the Kyle Reese who existed in the new timeline, as an Actor Allusion to the fact that Michael Biehn portrayed both characters.
  • The Last Son: This is pretty much inevitable when merging the DC and Marvel universes:
  • In Life as Lily Evans-Potter, Mystique is revealed to have adopted the identity of Lily Evans when she accidentally caused the real Lily's death when Lily was a child; her relationship with James and the decision to fake her death were inspired by Destiny's advice, but when she meets Harry for the first time after he's allied with the X-Men, she reveals her identity and affirms that she genuinely loved James.
  • The Twilight/Heroes fanfic Lightning Strikes reveals that Alice Cullen is actually the presumed-dead sister of Angela Petrelli.
  • The Lost Hero:
    • Kal-El/Clark Kent and Kara-El/Mae Kent are brother and sister instead of cousins.
    • Conner Kent is the son of Clark Kent and Maxima.
    • Ariella Kent is the daughter of Clark Kent and Mary Batson.
    • Karen/Power Girl is the daughter of Billy Batson and Mae Kent.
    • Donna/Wonder Girl is the daughter of Vartox and Diana/Wonder Woman.
    • Like in many other fics, Prince Blueblood is a descendant of Princess Platinum.
  • The Many Dates of Danny Fenton is based on the premise of the titular protagonist dating women from various fiction:
    • In the "Parallel Sailor Moon" short, Sailor Jupiter has a daughter named Mako, though the father is notably not present. If Danny chooses her, he becomes Mako's father.
    • In the MC 2 comics, Felicia's daughter Felicity was Flash Thompson's daughter. In the ending with her, Danny is the father.
  • Finmonster's The Marvelous World Of DC and its sequels:
  • In Mercury Mrs Tendo, Ami Mizuno is the mother of the Tendo girls.
  • In the Lucifer/Chilling Adventures of Sabrina crossover "Morningstar Family Values", Sabrina is Lucifer's daughter conceived during a ritualistic orgy with her parents, neither aware of their connection (and in Lucifer's case, Sabrina's very existence) until her teens.
  • My Little Titan (crossing My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic with Teen Titans): Discord is Celestia's father. Also, Dick Grayson/Robin is effectively adopted into the Apple Family as Night Seed.
  • Neither a Bird nor a Plane, it's Deku!:
    • Itsuka Kendou is the daughter of Yoru, Bruce Wayne's former martial arts sensei in the DC Animated Universe.
    • Tooru Hagakure's mother is Kimiyo Hoshi, aka the heroine Dr. Light.
  • In No Easy Day, General George Hammond (Stargate SG-1) is revealed to be the father of Ashley Hammond, the second Yellow Turbo Ranger (Power Rangers Turbo) and the Yellow Space Ranger (Power Rangers in Space), while General McKnight of Operation Lightspeed is Conner McKnight's father (Power Rangers: Dino Thunder).
  • Once Upon a Supernatural Time has a few of these;
    • When Crowley visits Storybrooke, he reveals that Crowley's mother Rowena is also Cora's mother, as she fled to this world after teaching Cora her magic, which makes Crowley Cora's half-brother and Regina's uncle.
    • Tamara is revealed to be the daughter of Dean's old foe Gordon Walker.
  • Peculiar Parasitic Phenomenon
    • Mikitaka is revealed to be the son of the amnesiac Kars after he crashed into the former's home planet.
    • Mannish Boy is revealed to be the youngest son of DIO.
  • Arturia Pendragon is Jaune Arc's mother in RWBY Zero, having married his father following the Fourth Grail War. This also makes him Mordred's half-brother, which comes into play when he summons her during the next Grail War.
  • In The Silver Raven, a crossover between Devil May Cry and The Owl House, Lilith gives birth to Nero, making her his mother. This also means that Eda is his aunt.
  • In Somnium, Aurora considers the fairies as her adopted mothers, not her Honorary Aunts.
  • As the A Song of Metal and Marvels series combines the Marvel universe with A Song of Ice and Fire, there's a bit of this going on:
    • Tony Stark is Ned Stark's cousin, making him first cousin once removed to the Stark children.
    • Bruce Banner becomes Bruce Tarth, Brienne's cousin.
    • Natasha Romanoff becomes Natasha Martell, Oberyn's oldest and only legitimized daughter who marries Jon Snow/Stark.
    • Mystique is the long-lost daughter of Duncan Targaryen, making her Daenerys' first cousin once removed and Jon's first cousin twice removed. Also, Magneto is a Blackfyre, making him a more distant cousin to all three.
    • Pycelle is revealed to be Tywin's bastard uncle.
  • In Spark to Spark, Dust to Dust, it's revealed that Adam is Yang's maternal half-brother, which also means he's related to Raven by way of being her son.
  • In Smallville fanfiction Stronger Together, Kara Danvers and Carol Danvers are sisters.
  • In Tales of Academia, Missy from Yu-Gi-Oh! GX is the daughter of Weevil from the original series when in canon they have no connection other than both using Insect-themed decks.
  • Tara Sheppard makes Tara Maclay the half-sister of then-Major John Sheppard (her mother was his father's secretary for a time).
  • In Those Obnoxious Relatives, Lum is the cousin of the Tendo girls (their mother was Lum's aunt), while Ran is Kodachi's twin sister and the younger sister of Kuno.
  • In Titania Falls, Erza is the mother of Dipper and Mabel Pines.
  • To Belong:
  • What Insertion?: Azusa Shiratori and Shiho Miyano are revealed to be cousins, something which is a bit of a bombshell in-universe. On an occasion when Azusa accidentally broke up a Black Organization operation just by being herself, this results in Sherry becoming both respected and feared by the B.O.'s lower-ranked members.
  • Yes, My Lady, a crossover between My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and Black Butler, pulls off both this and Family Relationship Switcheroo by having Apple Bloom and Diamond Tiara revealed as twin sisters... whose biological parents are Applejack and Filthy Rich.
  • Sixes and Sevens, a crossover between Agent Carter and The Invaders, makes Peggy sister to Brian Falsworth by way of Composite Character, as the Falsworth identity is assigned to her brother Michael after his death is faked.
  • In Remnant's Bizarre Adventure, it's revealed that Zwei is the grandson of Iggy when the former uses a version of the latter's Stand.
  • Code Ment: Lelouch is cousins with Death The Kid, which also makes Lord Death his uncle as well (On his father's side, meaning the Britannian royal family is related as well). He also happens to be Alucard's nephew too. Alucard is mentioned to be from Lelouch's mother's side of the family, making Marianne related to him.
  • Golden Blond and Jet Black is a crossover where Mavis from Hotel Transylvania and Rapunzel of Tangled are respectively the daughters of Pitch and Sandy from Rise of the Guardians. The story ends with Mavis and Rapunzel adopting Vanellope from Wreck-It Ralph.
  • The Pirate's Soldier: A major revelation is that Heero Yuy is of Juraian descent, with Katsuhito Masaki/Yosho being his maternal grandfather. This connects him by blood to the rest of the Juraian Royal Family, including naturally Ayeka and Sasami.
  • In Barney Bunch videos, McDonald's mascot Ronald McDonald's brother is an illustration of a clown of unknown origin given the Fan Nickname "Dick the Clown".
  • There Was Once an Avenger From Krypton:
    • Broly is Kale's older brother in this series.
    • Caulifla in this series is the younger sister of Goku and Raditz.
  • Khaos Omega pulls off three due to a Meme Storm phenomenon called a "convenient naming chain", all of which are biologically conceived by two females including Anise.
    • First, in 2782, Summer conceives Ruby Rose (and, as revealed many centuries later, Amy Rose). Anise knew of Ruby's side in this chain thanks partly to the chain responsible being aided by another kid of hers, Rosalie (conceived by a Daisy-garbed Roy).
    • The next one happens in 2981 when some decisions made during a prior mission to Midgar create a chain that causes Lissa to conceive Claire and Serah Farron as twins. This chain enables a Meme Storm-invoking spell Anise had planned for Lucina to work as intended yet still allowing Robin (who due to the spell is revealed as Lucina's mother) to join the Anise-led Amethysts under pseudo designation.
    • The third, which happens several centuries later still, Anise learns one of the Rosalina variants she added to the Amethysts during her Mario Kart Tour run is set as the mother of Audrey from the Descendants dimension, as Audrey herself confirms due to having an immunity to a curse that forces Anise to rape certain females. The variant in question turns out to be Aurora, due to the variant name matching the real name of Audrey's canon mother Sleeping Beauty.

    Harry Potter
  • More of a peripheral example features in Daughter of Darkness when main character Isabelle "Izzy" Verona eventually learns that she is actually Lyra Black, the daughter of Bellatrix Black and Edgar Bones; Edgar had a brief relationship with Bellatrix after his wife died giving birth to Susan. As a result, Izzy/Lyra is not only Bellatrix's daughter, but also Draco Malfoy and Nymphadora Tonks' cousin, Susan Bones' half-sister, niece to Narcissa Malfoy, Andromeda Tonks and Amelia Bones, and is also chosen by Sirius to be the official heir to the House of Black.
  • Family Relations is a oneshot where Harry is half-Indian and finds out he is cousins with the Patil twins.
  • In the epilogue of The Power of Seven, Victoire is Fleur and Harry's daughter rather than Fleur and Bill's.
  • In Formerly Known as Harry Potter?, Harry, or Lily as she's known, was adopted by the Grangers at age five and raised as Hermione's sister.
  • The Peace Not Promised: While the latter doesn't actually appear due to the story taking place prior to their birth, Professor McGonagall turns out to be Luna Lovegood's great-aunt.

    The Legend of Zelda
  • Blind Courage: Zelda's mother was half-Sheikah and Impa's cousin, making Impa into Zelda's first cousin once removed.
  • Divorced: Nabooru and Ganondorf are siblings, with Nabooru being the elder sibling.
  • FFS, I Believe in You: This is done on a species-wide scale — Lizalfos and Zora share no particular relationship in the games, but here they're both descended from the ancient, hostile river Zora of early Zelda games and share a number of cultural touchstones and a common language.
  • Their Bond:
    • Zelda and Link were raised as siblings dating back to Link leaving the Kokiri forest. However, Link prefers not to be Adopted into Royalty and instead views Zelda's advisor Mikal as his surrogate father.
    • Impaz is the grandmother of Ocarina of Time's Impa.
    • Wind Waker's King Daphnes is the father of the Twilight Princess Zelda.
    • Saria was Link's Parental Substitute, not just his Childhood Friend.
  • Zelda and the Manacle of Cahla: Zelda and Link are brother and sister.
  • The Arrangement:
    • Urbosa is the mother of Riju and Ganondorf.
    • Link is Zelda's half-brother through the king.
    • Link is adopted by Urbosa.
    • Riju's daughter is Nabooru.
  • In A Tale of Two Rulers, Link is Zelda's child (and Ganondorf's step-child). More specifically, Zelda's daughter Rinku is the current reincarnation of Link.
  • In The Legend of Zelda: The Sage of Darkness, Dark Link is revealed to be Link's father, having resurrected himself through his son's shadow.

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
  • Aftermath of the Games:
    • Unlike the pony versions of Rainbow Dash and Scootaloo who are just surrogate sisters, the human Rainbow Dash and Scootaloo here are real sisters.
    • Also, even though no relationship is established between them in canon, here Cinch is revealed to be Fleur's mother.
  • In Alicorn, Rainbow Dash turns out to be Celestia's daughter (and Luna's niece by extension). She is not happy when she finds out.
  • In The Apprentice, the Student, and the Charlatan, Trixie Lulamoon and Twilight Sparkle are stated to be distantly related due to the Lulamoon clan inter-marrying with the Novus clan over the years, before the Sparkle clan materialized as a branch of the Novuses.
  • Asylum (Daemon of Decay): In canon, Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash are Childhood Friends. Here, they're foster sisters.
  • Biomom: Rainbow Dash finds out Daring Do/A.K. Yearling is her biological mother, who gave birth and then abandoned her. A time-traveling Twilight turns out to be Luna and Celestia's birth mother.
  • Children of the Star:
    • It's revealed early on that Twilight, Trixie, Starlight, Sunset, and Moondancer are all paternal half-sisters whose mothers had them via in-vitro fertilization, and that their father is the exiled alicorn prince Star Dust. The 2018 rewrite keeps all of them and adds Fizzlepop Berrytwist/Tempest Shadow as a sixth sister.
    • In the original version (before its 2018 rewrite), during the search for Star Dust, the quintet also meet LQ73, an A.I. and his first-built son, and learn from him that not only is Spike also their naturally-conceived half-brother, they have four younger Earth Pony siblings (Silver Spoon, Pipsqueak, Twist and Babs Seed) who were conceived in the same manner as the girls themselves. It's later revealed they have another sister: Scootaloo.
    • Star Dust also had a sister, Dust Bowl, who became the ancestor of Stinking Rich (and through him, of Filthy Rich and Diamond Tiara). This is still true in the 2018 rewrite.
  • The Differentverse:
    • Scootaloo is Derpy's niece and, by extension, Dinky's cousin.
    • Coco Pommel is Applejack's little sister via adoption.
  • A Diplomatic Visit:
    • An odd version. The Nightmare, which possessed Luna and turned her into Nightmare Moon, is actually Umbrea, former Lady of Nightmare, leader of the shadow pony sect — who began as dark magic that developed sapience — and the "mother" of King Sombra. In comics canon, the Nightmare Forces that corrupted Luna and the Umbrum that spawned Sombra were distinct groups.
    • Chapter 6 of the sequel Diplomat at Large identifies Twist as Bon-Bon's niece (doubling as a Shout-Out to the Quiververse and RealityCheck's Nyxverse). It's later clarified in chapter 8 that they're actually distant cousins, but still related.
    • Chapter 8 also reveals that Blueblood is descended from Princess Platinum.
    • Chapter 12 reveals that Aria and Sonata are sisters. Subverted with Adagio, who (unlike many fanfiction portrayals) isn't related to them — she was a complete stranger who promised them a feast if they joined her and then used them.
    • The fourth story applies this to the Pony of Shadows; in canon, the origin of the dark entity that emerged from the Well of Shade to possess Stygian and turn him into the Pony of Shadows is never given, but here, it turns out to have been another Umbrum, and thus related to Sombra and Nightmare Moon.
    • While show canon is ambiguous about whether they're related or not, the epilogue confirms that this world's version of Luster Dawn, Twilight's student from the final episode of canon, is the as-yet-unborn daughter of Sunburst and Starlight Glimmer.
  • Firebird Dahlia: Sunset and Spitfire are estranged sisters. Neither is entirely happy when others find out.
  • Flying High: Scootaloo turns out to be the daughter of Trixie Lulamoon and Prince Blueblood.
  • Friendship is Witchcraft: Rainbow Dash is Scootaloo's very distant mother.
  • Friends with Everybody:
    • Of Wondercolts and Shadowbolts reveals that Abacus Cinch and Sunny Flare are mother and daughter.
    • Flash Sentry and Scootaloo are brother and sister. Later, it's revealed that Rainbow Dash is their paternal half-sister.
    • Adagio is the ancestor of the Element Bearer's human counterparts, and by extension their siblings and at least one parent for each.
  • The Harmony's Warriors series does this several times:
    • Rainbow Dash and Trixie are adopted sisters, Rumble and Thunderlane are their brothers, and they're all Celestia's children.
    • Scootaloo is Daring Do's niece.
    • Featherweight is Filthy Rich's son.
    • Apparently Celestia is on Shining Armor and Twilight's family tree. Though this has only been explored briefly, Word of God is that it's an important plot point.
  • While not the main focus of the story, Cheerilee from Chapter 9 of Getting Back on Your Hooves is actually said to be the older sister to Berry Punch and Piña Colada.
  • How I Lost My Mother: Cozy Glow, the Face of an Angel, Mind of a Demon member of the Big Bad Duumvirate from the series finale, is actually the DAUGHTER of Princess Celestia. Celestia erasing her daughters' living memory from the public was her trying to prevent an apocalypse that she saw saying Cozy would bring about because of her Magic; only to create the very conditions that would turn Cozy Glow into a monster in the first place.
  • The Infinite Loops / MLP Time Loops:
    • Many loops have characters being related when they weren't in baseline. This includes Loops where Twilight has one or more of her friends as her sibling(s) or child(ren), and at least one loop where Mrs. Cake is a distant cousin to Pinkie, who's very excited (she runs down the street repeatedly screaming "The Cake is a Pie!" when she finds out).
    • Rainbow Dash has had Loops where she's the daughter (usually estranged) of Photo Finish.
    • Scootaloo has been related, by blood or adoption, to every Equestrian Looper.
    • 146.14 has Bulk Biceps and a unicorn version of Coco Pommel as Rarity's older brother and younger sister, respectively (the latter replacing Sweetie Belle).
    • In 202.12, Diamond Tiara is the daughter of Applejack and Filthy Rich (the writer admits to being inspired by Tatsurou's Yes, My Lady) from a one-night stand after Filthy found out his parents had arranged for him to marry Spoiled Milk, and was raised by her father and stepmother with the promise that if she found out about her birth mom and wanted to rejoin her, Spoiled wouldn't stand in the way.

  • Kamen Rider Unicorn: Sunny Flare is the daughter of Abacus Cinch.

    • Octavia Melody and Fiddly Twang (the mare who plays the fiddle during the Nightmare Night celebrations in Luna Eclipsed and at the Apple family reunion in Apple Family Reunion) are maternal first cousins in this setting. In canon, there's no confirmed connection between them.
    • Chapter 16 reveals another of Octavia's cousins is Sugarcoat, whose human self first appeared in My Little Pony: Equestria Girls – Friendship Games. Canon has no confirmed ties between them.
  • My Secret Daughter: Diamond Tiara is the daughter of Starlight Glimmer and an unknowing Double Diamond (Starlight broke up with him once she found out she was pregnant and never told him about their child), whom Starlight later gave up to Spoiled Rich after the other mare lied to Starlight about having miscarried and, still wanting a child of her own, promised to take care of her. Years later, when Starlight finds out what kind of pony Spoiled really is, she immediately takes steps to get her daughter back.
  • One Awesome Mom: Scootaloo lives with her maternal aunt Ditzy Doo and cousin Dinky, because her actual mom is Ditzy's sister Daring Doo, who spends most of her time at archaeological digs and is the basis for the main character in her sister's Daring Do novel series.
  • Pony POV Series:
    • Octavia Melody and Photo Finish are Pinkie Pie's sisters, though they left the rock farm at an early age to become a musician and photographer respectively, which is why they hardly interact.
    • Berry Punch is Cheerilee's sister.
    • Screwball is Filthy Rich's wife and Diamond Tiara's mother. In the fic, she is named Golden Tiara, though some characters call her Screwball as an insult. It's later revealed that Golden's parents wanted her name to be Spoiled Rich, the canon wife and mother to the family, and if circumstances had been different, Golden would have been just like Spoiled Rich.
    • Many characters from G1 and My Little Pony Tales are Famous Ancestors of the current characters.
    • Discord's mortal mother Shady is Golden Tiara and Diamond Tiara's ancestor, making him their great-great-something uncle.
    • Prince Blueblood and Princess Cadence are cousins.
  • Quiververse: Several examples, some based on fanon and some from the author's own imagination.
    • Whereas it's remained unconfirmed in the series proper, Applejack and Pinkie Pie are confirmed to be distant cousins thanks to research by Pinkie's mother, Cloudy Quartz.
    • Cadance is suggested as being the descendant of Princess Amore, the last legitimate ruler of the Crystal Empire before Sombra usurped the throne.
    • Bulk Biceps is Featherweight's maternal uncle in this storyline, whereas they've never so much as interacted in the series itself.
    • Twist is Bon-Bon's niece (doubling as a Shout-Out to RealityCheck's Nyxverse).
  • Scootaloo's Parents Are: Shining Armor, who never knew about her (but it's implied that he would have gladly taken her if he had known), and Spitfire of the Wonderbolts, who abandoned her in an orphanage as soon as she could because she felt she couldn't take care of a foal on her own.
  • Seven Days in Sunny June: This happens to numerous human characters. When Sunset returns to Equestria in book 2, she finds that at least some of these relationships are exclusive to the human versions and not the case with their pony counterparts.
    • Sunset is taken in and pretty much adopted by human Twilight's family.
    • The Spike of this world is human and Twilight's little brother. Octavia is also Twilight's cousin via their fathers.
    • Fiddlesticks is Octavia's cousin via their mothers, while Screwball and Midnight Moondust are sisters, and both are second cousins to Octavia.

    • Crackle is Suri Polomare's half-sister by her father's mistress.
    • Blueblood and Flash Sentry are cousins.
    • Pinkie Pie is the niece of Carrot and Cup Cake (her mother and Cup are sisters). Pony!Pinkie, when she finds out, tells Sunset that her world's Cake family aren't her blood relatives, but she wouldn't mind if they were, since they ARE like a second family to her.
    • Coco Pommel is Fancy Pants' little sister.
  • Scootaloo's Sunrise Surprise: Scootaloo turns out to have an older unicorn sister she never knew about: Sunset Shimmer.
  • The Secret of Motherhood: Starlight Glimmer reveals that she had a daughter who was stolen from her at birth, who turns out to be Scootaloo. Her father was Wind Rider of the Wonderbolts.
  • Sisters!?!: The plot kicks off when Twilight discovers that Scootaloo is her younger, maternal half-sister and takes custody of her from the local orphanage. They eventually find out that their mom was a surrogate mother for a friend of hers and the friend's husband, and the couple were killed in a horrific storm shortly after Scootaloo was handed over to them; since they Never Found the Body, she was assumed dead in the same accident until Twilight discovered their relation.
  • The Sparkle In His Eye:
    • Sunset Shimmer is the latest incarnation of the daughter of Celestia and her phoenix Philomena, who had transformed into a male pony in an effort to comfort Celestia years ago.

    • It is eventually revealed that Flash Sentry and Scootaloo are long-lost siblings.
  • Spectrum:
    • Princess Cadance is a descendant of Princess Luna here, while Prince Blueblood is a very distant relative. This familial relation also gives Cadance the power to dreamwalk.
    • Princess Amore and Radiant Hope are also mother and daughter here instead. They're also Cadance's ancestors, making them related to Luna as well.
  • Rainbow Dash and the Daring Do Connection, by SuperPinkBrony12, has Rainbow Dash discover that her mother Windy Whistles has an estranged younger sister, and thus Rainbow's aunt — Daring Do.
  • Where Is My Love? (and its predecessor, Where Did Daddy Go?): Prince Blueblood is Derpy's long-lost lover, and the unknowing father of Dinky Hooves.

  • Back to Zero:
    • Giovanni is secretly both Ash's and Jessie's fathers, which also makes Jessie and Ash into half-siblings.
    • Oakley, Annie, and Mondo are siblings.
  • Birthright depicts Jessie as Giovanni's paternal niece. The two aren't close and Giovanni doesn't view her as his niece because she was born out of wedlock.
  • In Mended, a seventeen-year-old Ash finds out that Professor Oak is his father.
  • Pokémon Master: Chapter 13 reveals that Duplica is Ash's long-lost younger sister.
  • Pokémon Reset Bloodlines:
    • Ash's relationship with Sir Aaron was Ambiguously Related at most, while in this story he's confirmed to directly descend from him through his mother.

    • The identity of Hau's father isn't revealed in canon, while in this story he's none other than Bruno of the Kanto Elite Four.
    • Similarly, no canon sources confirm who is the mother of Giovanni's son Silver. The Holiday Special 2021 confirms that it is Ariana and that she and Giovanni are married.
    • It's heavily implied, though not outright stated, that many canon characters are actually related to Ash, all of them fathered by the same man. These include Red, Yellow, Ritchie, and Arnold.
  • In the Pokémon: The Series fanfic series The Road You Choose, not only is Ash's father identified as Pokémon Master Red, but Red is also the father of Ash's friend Dawn, and Jessie learns that part of the reason her and James's mistakes were tolerated for so long is because Giovanni is her father.
  • In Traveler, Giovanni is revealed to be Ash's father.
  • In Lost, Delia reveals to Professor Oak that Ash's father is Giovanni of Team Rocket. She ran off after learning he was a criminal, but not before she became pregnant with Ash. She never told Giovanni about Ash and lied to Ash about his father.

    • In the new timeline created in this fic, Red and Yellow of the manga are Ash's siblings, while Delia Ketchum is Giovanni's sister — making him into Ash's uncle — as well as being a former member of the Elite Four.
    • It is later revealed that Drayden is Iris's paternal grandfather, and Misty refers to Koga and Blaine as her uncles (although this may be more honorary than a reference to their biological relationship).

    • It is confirmed that in this timeline, Verity is Cynthia's daughter (something that was denied by the film's director).

    • Sapphire is Caroline's sister, is married to Ruby, and their son is Brendan, which makes him May's cousin. Brendan is also Professor Birch's Grandson rather than son.
  • Witchcraft:
  • Everything Changes (Milkyway Scribbles):
    • Pallet Town is so small that many people are related to one another. Ash and Gary are cousins because Ash's dad and Gary's mom are triplets (with their other sister living in Cerulean).
    • Drake from the Orange Islands is Ash's uncle. He's a younger half-brother of Ash's dad who became estranged in adulthood.
  • Yamujiburo has a piece of fan-art where Giovanni and Ariana are the parents of Silver and Mars.

  • Brawl In The Family AU: Raven is Mercury's mother, making him Yang's half-brother and Qrow's nephew.
  • Fixing RWBY: Whereas the canon Vernal had no known relatives, and there was nothing to suggest a blood relation between her and Raven; Fixing RWBY heavily rewrites Vernal to be Raven's daughter, which also makes her Yang's biological half-sister and Qrow's biological niece. Vernal's father is also revealed to be Shay D. Mann, a canon bandit, who's renamed Shiloh here.
  • Let Me Hear is a RWBY fic that turns Blake and Weiss into adopted sisters. As a child, Blake was adopted into the Schnee household after her parents were killed.
  • In Linked in Life and Love, Summer Rose and Roman Torchwick are siblings. Moreover, Ruby is not the child of Summer and Taiyang, but rather the biological child of Summer and Raven.

    • James Ironwood is Penny's father.
  • An installment from the smut-filled "Arrested" series has Blake, Ruby, and Yang switch dads (with Qrow replacing Jacques as the third dad of Team RWBY due to Jacques dying as part of the installment's plot), courtesy of a time-travelling super-powerful Neo from a different universe.

    Anime & Manga

    • Bluejay and Sora are cousins in the fic, but not in RealLife.
    • Phoenix Puzzle, from the anime's Ice Hunter arc, is Shanks' younger brother.

  • The Naruto fic I Am NOT Going Through Puberty Again! treats every single redhead in the franchise (canon or filler) as being a member of the Uzumaki clan.
  • In MGLN Crisis, Fate turns out to be half-siblings with her adoptive brother Chrono when a DNA test reveals that her biological father was Clyde Harlaown, something that is outright impossible in canon due to Clyde only being several years older than Alicia (the girl Fate was cloned form). This is actually a plot point, as it would turn out that it was actually an aged up clone of Clyde, using a prototype of the very technology that would lead to her own creation (and since Fate is canonically the first stable clone in the series, he suffered from Clone Degeneration after only three years).
  • Desert Gold is an Alternate Universe Fic where Ed and Al are half-Ishvalan through their mother Trisha. It's mentioned that Scar is their kin, but their exact relationship isn't clarified.
  • Son of the Sannin:
    • The Point of Divergence of the fic is that Jiraya and Tsunade adopt Naruto, with Shizune as his older sister. Because of this, Naruto is now part of the direct family of Hashirama, Mito, Tobirama, and Nawaki. By extension, Naruto and Sasuke technically become cousins due to Shizune marrying Shisui during the Time Skip.
    • Hayate and Yugao become Haku's foster parents after Zabuza's arrest.
    • Mei and Kurotsuchi are second cousins (the former's mother defected from Iwa during the Second Ninja War).
    • Mitsuki is now the son of Hebimaru and Kagero Fuuma, making him the biological grandson of Jiraiya and Tsunade (since his father is a clone of their son), a member of the Uzumaki and Senju bloodlines, and Naruto's nephew.
    • Yakumo Kurama ends up married to Rock Lee and is thus the mother of his canon son Metal. Likewise, Matsuri's marriage to Gaara makes her the mother of his adopted son Shinki.
  • The Fairy Tail fanfic series the Alternate Tail Series has Carla's father revealed to be Pantherlily.
    • Rogue (renamed Ryos) is Macao's son instead of Romeo, while Jellal is Ivan's son and thus Makarov's grandson instead of Laxus.
  • In Heroes by Choice Vlad King is Izuku’s father instead of Hiashi.
  • In Reunion, Keitaro is Sarah's father, due to having been raped by her mother when he was only ten. She's not very happy about this, although she does promise to try and be nicer to him.
  • In Lavandula Somnambulist, Izuku is not the birth son of Hisashi and Inko Midoriya. Instead, he is Midnight's son, Hisashi being the donor and Inko being the surrogate mother that carried him to term.
  • Doing It Right This Time: Rei is revealed to be Naoko Akagi's biological daughter (she was supposed to be Yui's, but Naoko switched out Yui's genetic donations for her own), and thus Ritsuko's little sister.
  • Luffy's Mother is WHO?: Luffy's mother is none other than Charlotte "Big Mom" Linlin, one of the Four Emperors of the New World. Luffy was conceived from Monkey D. Dragon's sperms as payment for supplies for the Revolutionary Army. Dragon, however, did not want his son to be used as a pawn for Big Mom and kidnapped him in the dead of night before bringing him to be raised by his father Garp.

    • In the special Episode of Bardock, it's revealed that the inhabitants of the Planet Plant/Vegeta are primitive Saiyans. However, with the release of Dragon Ball Super, it turns out that Saiyans were originally from a different planet entirely, making them unrelated to that species in canon.
    • Lord Slug is revealed to be Guru's good half, but they're completely unrelated to each other in the source material.
    • Mouri and Dende are changed from technical siblings (thanks to both of them being fathered by Guru), to Mouri being Dende's father. Considering Guru undergoes Adaptational Villainy, probably for the best.
    • Dr. Gero's son refers to Dr. Flappe as his uncle, though he might be of the Honorary Uncle sort.
  • Masako X - Dragon Ball What-If:
    • What if Nappa Turned Good?:, Bra ends up being the daughter of Bulma and Yamcha. This is due to Vegeta having stayed dead past the Namek saga, and also leading to Trunks not existing in this timeline.
    • What If Goku Married Bulma?: Gohan is the son of Goku and Bulma, rather than Goku and Chichi, as Goku fell in love with Bulma instead. Future Trunks, however, is still from the prime timeline where Goku married ChiChi and Bulma married Vegeta. He is not happy to find out his mother shacked up with Goku. Similarly, as Goku was obviously not available, ChiChi ended up with Yamcha, who she has had almost no interaction with in canon. They're surprisingly Happily Married.

  • In the fanfic The Future Briefing Island, it's revaled that Momo Yaoyorozu and Nemuri Kayama aka Midnight are in fact daughter and mother, respectively. The reason Midnight uses her maiden name is due to the fact that while Pro Heroes work under aliases, their actual identities are public knowledge, thus a disgruntled and determined villain could use that information against them.
    • Another MHA fanfic, Evolution, pulls two similar ones but with different girls, as Midnight becomes one of Izuku's two additional mothers. Both reveals involve someone showing up to Ogre's Gym (a dojo owned by Quirkless former vigilante Knuckleduster, who had adopted a younger Miruko at some point off-screen) at a time when Izuku, Miruko, and Mei Hatsume were already there.
      • The first time it happened, their classmate Himiko turned up covered in the blood of six gangsters she had just fought off. At the hospital, it's discovered through a blood test that her need to consume blood to avoid a Quirk backlash is something she inherited from her biological father Vlad King.
      • The second time it happened, three years later and with Himiko present from the beginning this time, the quartet meet Eri (and are able to capture Overhaul, who'd arrived shortly after her, thanks to Izuku managing to get the villain to agree to a spar). It's not until after the four become students at U.A. (on top of being employees as Eri's guardians) that Izuku learns Itsuka's biological father is Knuckleduster's old buddy "The Rapper" (the only Shie Hasseikai member who survived his injuries from the fight he started to cover Eri's escape).

    • At the end of Justice Returns, the next group of young heroes is the Kingdom Come Titans, but only Nightstar and Red Hood have the exact same parentage. Kid Flash's mother is Jinx, Aquagirl's mother is Bumblebee, and the biological father of Donna's son Robert is the deceased Kyle Rayner. Also, since Speedy and Donna are married, Robert and Red Hood are stepsiblings.
  • League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: Tempest Rewrite:

    • Gothi has no known family in canon, here she is Stoick's aunt and Hiccup's great aunt.
    • In canon Valka had no known blood relatives beside her son, here she was Gobber's grand-niece. This also makes Gobber Hiccup's great-granduncle.

  • This Star Wars fic is a twofer for the protagonist of Jedi: Fallen Order, Cal Kestis, who appears as the product of a one-night stand between Bo-Katan Kryze and Obi-Wan Kenobi.
  • "Iron Re-Write" has an interesting variation of this; when the Avengers and various other heroes go back in time and restart their lives in their younger bodies, Nebula uses this opportunity to make a deal with the Nova Corps to go into an interstellar version of witness protection where her genetic structure is rewritten to make her a different species. More specifically, she has data on Tony Stark's DNA transferred to the Nova Corps so that her human identity is genetically Tony's daughter (her maternal DNA comes from a terran who was taken from Earth a couple of decades ago, allowing the Avengers to fake evidence that she and Tony had a past relationship that resulted in Nebula).
  • The Other Side (memoriaeterna) features an interesting variation of this; when Wanda has her breakdown in Westview (WandaVision), she ends up "casting" Peter Parker as Pietro, apparently as her way of 'helping' him after they were the survivors of the Snap while the original Avengers died. While the illusion is swiftly ended, Peter and Wanda retain a strong bond, culminating in Peter at least once thinking of Wanda as being his sister even in reality.

    • The Goodbrook, Thorne, Stokeworth, Sunderland, Hayford, Rollingford, Edgerton, Keath, Mooton, Staunton, Grafton, Darry, and Lolliston families are all related by being either descendants of Clydas Shawney or in-laws of descendants. • Garth Tyrell is the father of Bellonara Otherys, the Black Pearl of Braavos, and grandfather of Bellegere, the current Pearl in canon. Further, his other daughter by the previous Black Pearl is the Poetess, implied to be the mother of the later courtesan of that name.

  • The Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel fic Bring Me to Life has all but explicitly stated that Caleb is Lindsey's brother, with the two having had such a serious falling-out years ago that Lindsey thanks God his family were rid of Caleb even before he learns that Caleb is serving the First.
  • "Splitting of Souls" reveals that Connor is actually Buffy's son rather than Darla's; Wesley theorises that Buffy and Angel conceived Connor during the day when Angel was briefly human and Darla essentially served as their surrogate, as it's naturally impossible for Slayers to have children on their own (in this reality Robin Wood was just the principal rather than the son of a Slayer).
  • The 10th Kingdom fic "The Last Dragon" reveals that Wolf is actually the great-grandson of both Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf; his father rejected their family's cycle of revenge and ended up bonding with Queen Riding Hood III's sister after he rescued her from a bear.

The sequel, "Shades of Destiny", makes Mordred the son of Merlin and Morgause, albeit 'conceived' through Morgause's use of dark magic (it's debated whether Morgause took some kind of sample from Merlin or basically raped him when she had previously reduced him to a catatonic state) and subject to accelerated aging through a spell that is said to cause damage to the subject's soul.

On a less direct note, it is also revealed that Leah Brahms is married to Joe Carey, the assistant Chief Engineer from Star Trek: Voyager.
  • The Series Fic Lorcano has Nick Lorcano and Tom Paris, both played by Robert Duncan McNeill, as half-brothers through their father Admiral Owen Paris, thanks to Nick's mother Nicole taking advantage of Own while he was drunk to gain a child as leverage.

    • Always a Ranger
      • Alex, Wes's descendant, Jen's ex-fiance, and the previous Red Time Force Ranger; is also Jen's descendant, thanks to a Stable Time Loop that involved Jen staying in the 21st century to be with Wes.
      • An implied example when Cole brings up to Yellow SPD Ranger Z Delgado that she reminds him of his teammate, the Black Ranger Danny Delgado, especially after learning they share the same last name. Z never knew her parents so she can't confirm if Cole's theory is true, but she finds the idea of being related to a past Ranger comforting.
  • Power Rangers Clockwork: Aricin Velothi is the son of Brynja and Asgaut Velothi. His counterpart in the original Skyrim mod Clockwork, the Amalgam, has no known relationships between Lamashtu and Lahar.
  • born of hell('s kitchen): Peter was adopted by the Parkers but is ultimately given back to his birth parents: Matthew Murdock and Jessica Jones.

    Tabletop Games
  • Nobledark Imperium: In canon, the Laer and the Sslyth are unconnected beyond the fact that they happen to both be snake-like species with multiple sets of arms. Here, they're the same species, with the Sslyth being the ones who made a run for it when the others started worshipping Slaanesh.

    Video Games
  • Most Alternate Universe Fics for Kingdom Hearts with a less fantastical setting use this trope to adapt certain characters' canonically... let's say metaphysically unusual relationships. Sora and Roxas in particular tend to be Polar Opposite Twins, with Namine, Xion, Ventus, and Vanitas popular choices to be related to them and/or each other.
  • In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: World of Light, Dr. Mario is the cousin of Mario and Luigi.
  • In SilfofinaDragon's Sengoku Basara fanfic Finally Home, Kagehime represented the negative emotions of Date Masamune and Sanada Yukimura's daughter Yuki, possessing the body of an already dead woman, yet in misakiyu's illustrations, she is the daughter of Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Nene.

  • In the Persona 5 fanfic Dear Old Dad, all of the Phantom Thieves (minus Morgana and Akira) are half-siblings through Corrupt Politician Shido, either through rape or coercion of their mothers. • In the Ace Attorney fanfic A Second Chance, Miles Edgeworth discovered that his mother is Misty Fey, and that Mia and Maya Fey are his full siblings with both Misty and Gregory Edgeworth as their parents.
  • A popular trend in some Persona fanworks such as Family Secrets is to have Makoto and Sae be the daughters of Akihiko Sanada and the game's female protagonist.''
  • In Persona 5, Futaba Isshiki(later Sakura) was conceived by Wakaba Isshiki through unknown means, and Wakaba's friend Sojiro Sakura doesn't have any idea who the father is. Some fanfic such as Family have Futaba's father be Masayoshi Shido, which makes her and Shido's illegitimate son Goro Akechi half-siblings.
  • In A New Hope (Danganronpa), Mikan, Kaito and Kokichi all turn out to be half-siblings, with a shared father between them.
  • In the Fate/Grand Order fanfic In Which Romani Finds Out He's Got Another Title, Gudakonote  is created from both Doctor Romani's DNA and material from the Heroic Spirit King Solomon.

  • It's not uncommon for Cookie Run: Kingdom fanfics to make Espresso and Latte siblings. Affogato is occasionally included as well.
  • In Fragments of Faded Memories, Magolor and Zan Partizanne are revealed to be long lost brother and sister.
  • Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Since the game takes place far in the future of Xenoblade Chronicles 1 and Xenoblade Chronicles 2, almost everyone is theorized to be descended from a hero from the previous games, and it's very common in fanfic for a connection to be revealed.
    • First and absolutely foremost, Mio is always Nia's daughter in fanfic. If one of them shows up in the fic, there will be at least hints to it. It is, in fact, so incredibly common that it's easy to forget that it isn't actually confirmed in-game.
    • Coming just a bit behind Mio, Sena is usually the daughter of Brighid and Morag. The way they are related varies greatly, however. In-game, Sena appears to be a full Blade, which should mean she was Born as an Adult from a core crystal. And yet she grows up normally. Her core is also different from Brighid's when every canon example of the children of Blades inherits the core of their parent. In Endless Strength Brighid donated part of her core to create a new crystal, which nearly killed her. In A Destroyer's Remorse Brighid and Aegeon created a new core crystal together, which Morag awakened as a Driver, creating a baby Blade who grew up like a human. In Campfire Conversations, Linka remembers Sena as the daughter of Morag and Brighid but realizes she doesn't actually know how two women produced a child.
    • Eunie, being High Entia, was theorized to be Melia's daughter before the game came out. In the actual game, they interact plenty of times with no hint of any such connection, so the theory dropped in popularity. It still shows up in fanfic, though. In this goodbye is not the end, not only is Melia Eunie's mother, but Noah is her twin brother. Their father is Dunban.
    • Most of the Heroes are theorized, with varying degrees of seriousness, to be the children of characters from previous games.
      • There are dozens of articles theorizing which of the Agnian Heroes are the children of Pyra and Mythra. Cammuravi, being the most obvious Fire Blade, was often assumed to be Pyra's son (the reveal of her daughter Glimmer in Future Redeemed put that theory to rest). Isurd, as the most obvious Light Blade, was often assumed to be Mythra's son. Alexandria is much more subtly implied to be a Light Blade, and some theories came out finding connections with her and Mythra. The City and Alexandria is the most well-known fic on that topic.
      • One of the most well-known theories is that Moebius D is Mythra's son. It quickly spread around the fandom, because half the people wanted to share how this theory perfectly fits with the themes of how war can turn even good people into monsters, and the other half spread it around because they hated the theory and really didn't want it to be true. As of the final story DLC, there's no confirmation on Mythra's child. A Destroyer's Remorse is all about Dirk remembering what he did in Aionios, including the parts where he tried to murder his mother and sister.
      • Crys, Noah's off-seer mentor, was theorized to be the son of Shulk and Fiora. Mostly because all three are blond. This fell to the wayside when Future Redeemed revealed Shulk's son Nikol, but there's still nothing to outright disprove them having two sons, so it still shows up every once in a while.
      • Similarly, Ashera was theorized to be the daughter of Reyn and Sharla, as her skin tone fits and she uses a fighting style similar to their friend Dunban. The reveal of their daughter Panacea in Future Redeemed stirred this up a bit more. Campfire Conversations has them meet briefly, and Panacea has to kill Ashera.
      • On the "definitely not serious" side, some fics portray Ethel as Melia's daughter, despite them not even being the same species. They both have silver hair and a regal personality, though, so people have fun with it. The City and Alexandria used this one as well.
    • The City and Alexandria: Mio is of course Nia's daughter, Cam is Pyra's son, and Alexandria is Mythra's daughter. Furthermore, Riku and Manana turn out to be Alvis and Pyra in disguise, making them siblings. Eunie is Melia's daughter with Shulk, and Ethel is his daughter with Fiora.
    • Queen's Paninis: The premise is Eunie discovering that she's Melia's daughter. Then Melia explains that Noah is her twin brother, and Ethel their older sister. Nia reveals that Mio is her daughter, and several people notice that she seems rather familiar with Sena and all the Agnian colony commanders. After Aionios, it turns out that Lanz is Vanea's son, and Segiri and Thirteen (under their real names Meyneth and Galea) are his older twin sisters. Dunban is revealed to be the father of Melia's children, Joran is named off-hand as "Mister Vangirre," and Dirk is friends with Mythra's son. Alexandria is the daughter of Obrona and Akhos, and she mentions a friend who is Fire Blade, but his father is an Ice Blade, implying Cam is Godfrey's son. One of the fic's tags is "everyone is related to someone."
Author: If you're going to start having people be related for funsies, may as well go whole hog.

    Western Animation
  • While Eda was like a mother to Luz in The Owl House, in An Odd Little Family she actually is her mother, being the product of a one-night stand and a few drunkenly cast spells.
  • Empath: The Luckiest Smurf has Hefty and Handy related to each other as twin brothers, rather than as just friends in most other adaptations of The Smurfs. However, since the franchise has never stated if Papa Smurf getting the Smurfs from the stork and raising them makes them family, it may actually be an inversion for all other Smurfs instead.
  • In the Steven Universe Human AU fic Eyes on Me:
    • Sapphire is the granddaughter of Whitney (White) Diamond - her father John is Whitney's son - and the niece of the other three Diamonds. By extension, this makes Garnet Whitney's great-granddaughter.

    • Jesse (Skinny Jasper) is the biological daughter of Jasper and Frankie (Carnelian). Likewise, Amy (Amethyst) is also her half-sister on Jasper's side.

  • Lucy's Secret: This story establishes that Hawk and Hank are brothers.
  • In the Beast Wars fic "Dark Secrets", Cheetor learns that Optimus Primal is his actual father rather than just a father-figure; Optimus had a relationship with Cheetor's mother, but she left Optimus without revealing the pregnancy and married the man Cheetor believed was his father to protect Cheetor and Optimus from a dark figure.
  • A particularly dark example in the Mummies Alive! fanfics by Julie Horwitz, which reveal that Ja-Kal's nephew, Kimas, is actually Nefer-Tina's son, as his brother Arakh was hired to rape Nefer-Tina by Ja-Kal's jealous wife Tia (Tia ignoring the fact that Nefer-Tina had shown no sign of acting on her feelings for Ja-Kal).
  • In the Dreamworks Dragons fic The Grimborn Sister, Astrid is now the sister of Dragon Hunters Viggo and Ryker Grimborn, although it is soon established that she has no actual involvement in their business and ends up falling for Hiccup through sheer chance.
  • In the Kim Possible fic "Some Wounds Don't Heal", a relatively chance encounter between Anne (Kim's mother) and Shego leads to Shego assisting Anne in investigating reports that a doctor in the maternity ward was stealing babies and selling them on a black market. This leads to the discovery that not only was Anne's first daughter one of the stolen babies but Shego is that same child. Once Shego realises and accepts that she is Kim's sister, she ultimately abandons her villain career, accepting that she could never fight Kim now that she knows her rival is her sister.

    • Dave is Noah's cousin.
    • Ella is Gwen's younger cousin.

  • In the Transformers: Animated fanfic Carry On Wayward Son by Kenyastarflight, Megatron is Optimus's long-lost father (Optimus having been kidnapped from him by pirates as a child), and implied to be a Truly Single Parent.
  • In the X-Men: Evolution fanfic All's Fair in Love and War, it's revealed in chapter 4 that Jean Grey and Lance Alvers are twins, with Lance being sent to live with his uncle and aunt in Illinois after their mother suffered an emotional breakdown following her husband's death and Jean going into a coma. It's later revealed that their mother's adopted sister was Magneto's wife and Pietro and Wanda's mother.
  • In X-Men: Evolution fanfic XXY:Evolution, where a majority of the characters are genderbend:
    • Rogue is Mysterioss's (male Mystique) biological son. This also makes Rogue and Nightcrawler half-siblings instead of step-siblings like in most versions.
    • Morgan (male Pixie) is Mind Mistress's (female Mastermind) son (while Pixie is only alleged to be Mastermind's daughter in the comics), and thus this makes him brothers with Martin (a male Composite Character of Mastermind's two actual daughters) and a villain here.
  • Heroes in the Shadows:
    • While it is implied that the Turtles got their humanoid aspects from Splinter, making him their biological father in the loosest sense of the term, here he and Tang Shen are unmistakably Leo, Donatello and Michelangelo's parents, Leonardo being Miwa's fraternal twin.
    • This version of Raphael is unrelated to his brothers and Splinter, instead being the result of an affair Oroku Saki had with a random woman.
  • In the The Owl House fic Luz Belos: Princess of the Boiling Isles, Luz is half-human and the daughter of Emperor Belos.
  • Downplayed in Rise of the Save-Ums; in the source material, Foo and Noodle were not related, but in this fic, their human equivalents Max and Alexa are.
  • While in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2012) it's implied that Splinter's human DNA is what gave the mutant turtles their humanoid physiologies, making him their biological father in the loosest sense of the term; in Underneath the Sakura Tree they are Splinter and Tang Shen's naturally born sons.
  • The 13th Ghost of Scooby-Doo, an alternate conclusion to The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo for fans dissatisfied with Scooby-Doo! and the Curse of the 13th Ghost, establishes that Zomba, one of the 13 ghosts from the Chest of Demons, and Revolta, the main villain of Scooby-Doo and the Ghoul School, are cousins.
  • The Powerpuff Girls Re Imagined:
    • In canon, Professor Utonium created the Powerpuff Girls via lab formulas; in the comic, he is their biological father, using his unborn triplets when creating them.
    • The comic depicts Sedusa as a revived clone of Professor Utonium's wife and the Powerpuff Girls' mother.
  • Steven and the Crystal GMs revised Amethyst's backstory from the show, so that Pearl was the one who initiated the process that created her, essentially making them mother and daughter.
  • Re: My Hostage, Not Yours: In the canon show, the only connection between Lard Nar and Prisoner 777 is that they're both Vortians. Here, while Lard Nar isn't directly referred to by name, 777 mentions his cousin who is running a resistance movement.
  • Queens of Mewni: As this was written before Seasons 3 and 4 of Star vs. the Forces of Evil aired, many of the relationships and line of succession of the Mewni queens got shuffled around, but for examples of this trope:
    • Festivia was revealed in canon to have been an impostor foisted on Mewni by the Magic High Commission, as they'd rather have a false queen than a half-monster one, which means any of her successors (namely Dirrhhenia, Crescenta, Celena, Comet, Moon, and Star) have no relation to her predecessors (namely Soupina, Skywynne, Solaria, and Eclipsa) and vice versa. Here she was a legitimate Butterfly heir (and actually ancestress to most of the above characters), so all these people are indeed related to each other.
    • This means that Eclipsa is also directly related to Star and Moon as their direct ancestor through her first daughter Luna.
  • In both Hero Chat and Lady Luck (Miraculous Ladybug), both by Cornerverse, Ondine and Marc are stepsiblings while in canon they are implied not to know each other. Lady Luck expands on this by having the Sandboy Akuma, here named Casey, as their younger half-brother.
  • Wikibending: Mai is said to be part of the Sei'naka family, and thus related to Rangi and Hei-Ran.
  • The Feather Child is about Zoe Lee being a Sentimonster created by Audreynote  so that she can coerce a former lover named John Lee into giving her back the majority shares of her company. But because Audrey used a necklace that Gabriel gifted her when they were dating and she thought back to their past relationship, Zoe was created as a theoretical child between her and Gabriel rather than her and John Lee as she intended.
  • Miraculous: Tales of Scarlet Beetle & Ikati Black: Alec Cataldi is Mireille Caquet's estranged father here, and it apparently plays into his reasons for rigging the Weather Girl competition. Théo Barbot is also her half-brother, as a way of explaining their closeness in canon.
  • In his original canon, Jotaro is the son of Usagi and his childhood First Love Mariko. In Leaves from the Vinenote , while Jotaro keeps the relation to Usagi, he's also Leonardo's son.
  • In the Book of Genesis, both Cain and Abel were sons of Adam. In Women of Eden, Cain is Adam's son while Abel is Lucifer's.
