An archipelago in the Demon Realm. Situated in the Boiling Sea, it is formed from the decaying remains of a fallen Titan and populated by magical creatures, predominantly witches and demons.

  • Adaptational Explanation: According to Amity, some witches have darker skin like African humans due to originating from Glandus, a part of the Boiling Isles which has more out in the sun compared to other places, which led to their skin having more melanin.
  • Bat People: To more accurate Bat Demon inhabit the Boiling Isles.
  • Cyclops: The cyclopes in this story are human-sized with gray skin and are known for their lack of patience and manners. They're often seen as the dredges of society, even below Unique individuals and just barely above trolls.
  • Fantastic Caste System: There are a lot of different species in The Boiling Isles, and atop of that there's a cast system in this story. Witches were at the top, followed by demons, Unique Children, Cyclopses, and finally the trolls.
  • Fantastic Racism: If you had a Quirk, you would be a target for harassment. there are only 200 "Unique" children that exist in Bonesborough, and all of them, for the most part, were encouraged to keep to themselves by The Emperor's Coven. And that's not even going into the social caste system.
  • I Have No Son!: Many "Unique" children weren't wanted by their parents. They were haunting reminders of what Shigaraki had done to their home 14 years ago.
  • Kidnapped for Experimentation: This happened to many witches by All For One's henchmen.
  • Orphanage of Fear: Eda notes that this is a thing in the Boiling Isles.
  • Our Trolls Are Different: Trolls are at the bottom of the social ladder and are the ones that got the most brunt of the beatings. They were often treated less than dirt and were often victims of hate crimes. Even cyclopes use their higher power over them. They also don't smile, mostly because their faces were formed into permanent neutral expressions or scowls. Their eyes show their true emotion.
  • Spider People: Or rather Spider Demons exist here.
  • Unwitting Test Subject: Many unfortunate witches were these for All For One's Quirk experiments.
  • The War Just Before: 24 years before the start of the story the first All For One tried to usurp the rule of the isles from Emperor Belos resulting in what is now called the Ten-Year War.
  • Wild Magic: Wild magic exists in the Boiling Isles as a Background Magic Field. Witches in the past used to command it using glyphs, before evolving a magic bile sac attached to their hearts, that they use to cast spells at will instead. Emperor Belos is on a religious crusade to get rid of wild magic by implementing a coven system to limit the kinds of magic each witch can use. In the end, wild magic just refers to all magic that lies outside of the coven system.

Edalyn "Eda" Clawthorne

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/eda.png
"You look like someone I wished I never knew…"

Debut: Chapter 24/ Episode 24: A Late Start To A Wacky World - Part 1

Quirk/ Gift: Quirkless

“Nice to meet you too, Shigaraki (That sounds so very wrong)"

A notorious outlaw with a multitude of tricks up her sleeve. She's also a recognised war hero in the fight against All For One, fourteen years before the story began.
  • Adaptational Badass: Eda has been working on controlling the Owl Beast rather than supressing it, since during the war now. So far it has gained her a Healing Factor and can temporarily control the One-Winged Angel form for a limited time without losing her mind.
  • Adaptational Relationship Overhaul:
    • With Amity a regular customer of hers, Eda is more familiar and friendlier with the girl than at the beginning of the show.
    • Unlike the show where they never interacted, Gilbert is friends with Eda who helped him cope with his husband's murder.
  • Against the Grain: Eda spent most of her adult life running away from Emperor Belos' coven and her sister because she didn't want to join them nor have her magic sealed.
  • Age Lift: In the show, she's in her mid-40s. Here in this story she's confirmed to be over 50-years old, so she looks more like her age.
  • And Show It to You: She was on the receiving end of this during the war, courtesy of All For One. Luckily, he didn't crush it, which allowed her her curse's Healing Factor to save her from certain death.
  • Animal Motifs: Eda's moniker is "The Owl Lady". She has yellow, owl-like eyes, has a staff that ends in Owlbert, her owl Palisman, and then there's the Owl House she lives in. Although she's really called "The Owl Lady" is because she's cursed to become an owl-like monster if she doesn't drink a special elixir on a daily basis. But she's learning to control that form.
  • Anti-Hero: Though essentially well-meaning and undeniably a helpful person, she's a deeply flawed woman and a not-so squeaky-clean moral compass.
  • Annoying Younger Sibling: Eda is this to Lilith.
  • Broken Ace: She's called "the Most Powerful Witch in the Boiling Isles", has great magic skills, a cool, relaxed attitude, many admirers and a recognised war hero. However, not only does have to deal with the curse she had when she was a child, has an estranged relationship with her immediate family and feels immense guilt for unintentionally revealing the location of her homeland to All For One which led to said war.
  • Collector of the Strange: Just like in the show, she collects human junk to sell at her stand.
  • Cool Old Lady: This is Eda Clawthorne in a nutshell.
  • Cursed with Awesome: In this story, her curse grants her a potent Healing Factor that makes her almost unkillable, save destroying her heart or brain.
  • Cynicism Catalyst: Even after 24 years she's still haunted by her inadvertently bringing All For One to her people's doorstep and started a bloody war. So much so that she keeps a very close eye on Toshiko.
  • Deadpan Snarker: She can be quite sassy to anyone she talks to.
  • Didn't See That Coming: When Eda arrived at the torn up site King and Toshiko's fight, she wasn't expecting to see King was sitting across a naked Shigaraki having a good laugh like old friends. It takes her a few seconds to process the sight.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • Despite being distrustful of her intentions, Eda allows Toshiko to spend a few nights in her house, not wanting the girl to live out on the streets. She's also reluctant to hand her over to Emperor Belos, seeing him as the scumbag he is.
    • She's also responsible enough to not give alcoholic drinks to a minor.
  • Feeling Their Age: Eda is now getting too old to keep up with training King and was also starting to get significantly weaker than him to challenge him.
  • Godzilla Threshold:
    • Eda considered bringing out her Owl Beast form on Toshiko if she hurt King or Hooty, despite haven't got control of it yet. Luckily, this wasn't necessary as everyone there was okay and cool with each other.
    • She also considers handing Toshiko over to Belos as this if she turns out like Rikitatsu. But she would only do that if she had no choice, just the thought of handing anyone over to that man made her stomach churn and went against her morals.
  • Handicapped Badass: Despite suffering from the Owl Beast curse that requires her to devote a large chunk of her magic to keep her from turning into an Owl Beast, often refers to herself as the most powerful witch on the Boiling Isles. This is not an idle boast, as she was one the few witches that had a chance fighting All For One, alongside her sister and Belos. She seems to averting this as she's gaining more control of her curse.
  • Healing Factor: Thanks to the Owl Beast Curse is has this that allowed her to survive getting her heart torn out by All For One.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: Downplayed. For her contributions in the war effort, Eda is a recognised war hero, despite her Covenless status and Emperor Belos pardoned her for crimes as a thank you (most likely done out of Pragmatic Villainy), now she is (mostly) left alone by the authorities, as gratitude. She's still seen as a dangerous individual that most would avoid.
  • Intergenerational Friendship: Eda, who is in her 50s, has one with Amity, who just turned 14.
  • It's All My Fault: She feels immense guilt about unintentionally leading All For One to her homeland where he started a 10-year long war that resulted many deaths.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Like in the show, Eda is a rebellious, brash Anti-Hero who is also friendly and loyal to her friends, as well as dangerous enemy to make.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Eda has no idea that Raine is alive her friend Perry is The Dragon to All For One. Perry believes once she finds out the truth the Owl Lady won't take it well.
  • Mama Bear: Eda rescued King from Shigaraki's hands after he kidnapped him for his Titan's Blood. When she sees a column of fire from King's fight with Toshiko near her house, she immediately guns it towards them and even considered bringing out the Owl Beast on the girl.
  • Master of Illusion: Its only thanks to her illusion spell that she survived her last battle with All For One when she was mortally wounded by him.
  • My Greatest Failure: Eda sees accidently leading All For One to the Boiling Isles as this, as he started a 10-year long war for control of her homeland with Belos that resulted the injuries, experimentation and deaths of her kind.
  • Never Be Hurt Again: She keeps a close eye on Toshiko and is planning contingency plans to make sure another war doesn't happen thanks to a Shigaraki because she failed to stop them.
"Too many people died because of him. She wasn’t going to let a repeat event happen. Especially not if she could help it. Doubly so if it wound up being because of her. Again."
  • Not Quite Dead: All for One thought she had killed the Owl Lady after mortally wounding her in their last battle but had survived thanks to the curse and had to resort to Playing Possum.
  • The Owl-Knowing One: A very knowledgeable magic user with an owl motif.
  • Pet the Dog: Despite being suspicious of her, Eda allows Toshiko to stay at her house for a few days due to being homeless and gives a new set of more durable clothes to wear that she kept when was in school.
  • Please Put Some Clothes On: The first thing Eda does before she let's Toshiko in her house is to magic up a dress for her wear because her Censor Steam flames wasn't cutting it for the old witch.
  • Red Baron: Eda Clawthorne is widely known as "The Owl Lady".
  • The Red Mage: Most witches belong to covens that restrict them to only one type of magic, Eda having refused to join one and has a wide variety of spells in her arsenal. Unfortunately, this is illegal in her world and is branded a wild witch.
  • Sleeves Are for Wimps: She wears a sleeveless dress.
  • Teen Genius: Eda was the Brilliant, but Lazy variant in her school days.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Eda loves Apple Blood.
  • Unscrupulous Hero: Eda's a greedy, prideful, lazy, rude trickster, and has no respect for the law or any authority figure, for that matter. She also has few compunctions about killing or stealing if necessary, while keeping her issues to herself. That said, she's against a genuinely oppressive authority, is protective and self-sacrificing when dealing with those she cares about, and can act heroically whenever a threat would harm the innocent. She also stepped up in the war to fight off All For One, who she inadvertently brought to the Isles.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Eda has enormous magical force, and is a Jack of All Trades Combat Pragmatist that can easily run circles around most enemies. However, since magic came so easy to her, she's not good at the basics or theory behind it, not to mention that she never finished school.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: After Eda discovered the Mutant Realm, King was captured by All For One for his Titan Blood. Even after she rescued him and returned home, he acquired the means to follow her back to the Boiling Isles and waged a 10-year long war that resulted in many casualties.
  • War Is Hell: Eda certainly has this opinion after fighting in a 10-year long war. Now, she'll do whatever it takes to prevent another one.
  • Would Hurt a Child: She resolves she may have to kill Toshiko if she turns out like All For One.
  • You Remind Me of X: When Eda first lays eyes on Luz, she remarks that she looked like someone she wished she never knew, the original All For One due to the similar hair and eye color. Because of this she decides to keep an eye on her.
  • Younger Than They Look: Eda is much younger than she appears, being in her early 50s rather than what she is, appearing as if she's in her late 60s.

  • Boxing Lessons for Superman: King hopes Eda will allow Toshiko to be his sparring partner to hone his growing Titan powers.

  • Distressed Dude: King got captured by All For One for his Titan Blood when he was a baby in the Mutant Realm, until Eda rescued him. During the war, he was kidnapped again by some Nomu.
  • Facepalm Of Doom: He does this a lot in his fight with Toshiko, tossing her around like a ragdoll.
  • Gigantic Adults, Tiny Babies: Despite being the size of a grizzly bear, he's puny compared to his country-sized dad.
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: His eyes glow green when he first encounters Toshiko in the forest.

  • Happily Adopted: He recognises Eda as his mom.
  • Hates Baths: Downplayed. When Eda orders him to take a bath, he grumbles but complies.

  • Light 'em Up: King has access to Light Magic, firing beams of light from his fingertips that can turn a person into swiss cheese.
  • Like a Son to Me: To Eda, which was why she adopted him.
  • Long-Lived: As a Titan, he can live for thousands of years.
  • Magikarp Power: King was once weak and powerless during most of the Ten-Year War, but being a titan means that he's on his way to growing up to be one of the most powerful beings in the universe. Currently, he's strong enough to go toe-to-toe with Toshiko and is becoming too strong for Eda to train.
  • Monster Roommate: Toshiko has King, a Titan, as her roommate.
  • Muscles Are Meaningful: Toshiko describes King as having the same physic as Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and is easily able to ragdoll her for a full minute.

  • No Mouth: King has a mouth, but it is rarely visible, and talks without ever moving it. He typically only opens it to use his Breath Weapon attacks.
  • Oh, Crap!: He has this look when Toshiko is till able to get up and still fight even after the minute long thrashing he gave her. He only achieved wearing himself out.

  • Skull for a Head: That dog-like skull on his head isn't a helmet, it's an actual part of his head.
  • Super-Scream: Like in the show, he can do this with his Sonic Shout. However, its even more powerful now, so much so, that the shockwaves it creates can tear off a person's skin and shatter bones, bypassing Toshiko's Shock Absorption.
  • Super-Strength: Thanks to his larger size, he has great physical strength and can throw a person so hard that he can break the sound-barrier and can deliver punches that can leave a victim with a Torso with a View.
  • Super-Toughness: Even after taking a point-blank full blast of Toshiko's Flamethrower, which destroys a good portion of the area they were fighting in, King comes out of it mostly unscathed. He can also bathe in the boiling waters with no problem.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: He's a powerful young Titan that can go toe-to-toe with Eda and Toshiko but hasn't had much opportunity to hone his magical abilities, due to now being too strong for most opponents. He's hoping having Toshiko as his sparring partner they can avert this for both of them.
  • Winged Humanoid: King possesses a pair of small wings on his back.
  • Wings Do Nothing: He has wings but they're too small to allow him to fly or even glide.
  • Wipe the Floor with You: King does this to Toshiko in their fight stretching for a mile, tearing up the ground as they went.
  • Worthy Opponent: Despite being annoyed that Toshiko just doesn't go down no matter what he throws at her, he excited to have an opponent that can match him blow for blow. By the end of the fight they're both laughing like they were old friends.
  • Would Hit a Girl: King did not pull any punches when he fought Toshiko.
  • Would Hurt a Child: He has no problems throwing down with Toshiko, a 14-year old girl, even before he knew she had powerful Quirks that allowed her to content with his might.
  • You Remind Me of X: When King first looks at Toshiko, he angrily says she reminds him of All For One, the villain that attacked his homeland and fractured his face and broke one of his horns. Hooty

  • Badass Adorable: Despite being an annoying, adorable fool, Hooty is an excellent security system for the household against most intruders.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Eda, and King mostly ignore him and get very irritated with him whenever he starts speaking at all.
  • Heavy Sleeper: Despite not needing much sleep, when he does he's difficult to wake up.
  • Innocently Insensitive: He means well, but actions and irritating voice only make people dislike him.
  • Nice Guy: In spite of being very annoying, he's still welcoming and always willing to help.
  • Sapient House: Hooty isn't just the face at the door, but the entire building, and is able to slightly move other parts, like shutters and the weather vane.

    Amity Blight (UNMARKED SPOILERS)

Amity Blight

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/15_amity_blight_5.png
"Amity Blight. A pleasure to make your acquaintance."

Debut: Chapter 24/ Episode 24: A Late Start To A Wacky World - Part 1

Quirk/ Gift: One For All

"The other kids are going to mock me, Mom…. Boscha already jokes about it and I can tell Willow is anxious to be around me."

A young Witch who is Willow's friend at Hexside as well as the youngest daughter of the influential Blight Family.

She has a natural replica of "One For All", the Emitter-Class Quirk that All For One created through his Quirk experiments involving her birth parents via conception, allows her to stockpile an enormous amount of raw power, allowing her to significantly enhance all of her physical abilities to a superhuman level.

  • Accidental Murder: Amity accidently kills her opponent in the first round of The Underdark Tournament, to her horror.
  • Adaptational Nice Girl: Amity is much nicer and less haughty than in the beginning of the show.
  • Adaptational Relationship Overhaul:
    • Because Amity's parents didn't force her to end her friendship with Willow, the two girls are on much better terms than in canon beginning. She also has a better relationship with her mother than her older siblings and father, latter the three are much more strained than canon.
    • She's also a regular customer of Eda being more familiar with each other.
  • Adaptational Superpower Change: In canon, Amity is a powerful young witch that specialises in abomination magic. Here in the story she was born without magic, due to a defective bile sac, and instead is born with the One For All power.
  • All of the Other Reindeer: She's ostracized by a good majority of the people in Bonesborough for being a witch who couldn’t use magic but instead had a Quirk. Even her own siblings and father are cold to her. Ironically, she has a better relationship with her mother.
  • Arranged Friendship: Averted. In this story she's friends with Boscha by choice.
  • Badass Adorable: Amity is no less the Cute Witch that she is in the show, Odalia doesn't doubt her ability to defend herself. Here she has the One For All power to fight enemies.
  • Badass Bookworm: She loves reading and is more than capable of defending herself.
  • Cursed with Awesome: Despite hating her Quirk, she's still a One For All wielder. That makes her a very powerful fighter.
  • Cute Witch: Indeed she is.
  • Designer Babies: Amity is implied to be this due to All For One's Quirk experimentation.
  • Dramatic Irony: Amity believes that f it wasn’t for All For One experimenting on her family, she could’ve probably lived a far better life. Unbeknownst to her, her mother and father would've been Abusive Parents.
  • Does Not Know His Own Strength: Amity claims to have fixed this problem since she was little. She is proven wrong after she accidently kills her opponent in the Underdark Tournament.
  • Don't Tell Mama: She doesn't want her mother to know she took part in Fight Clubbing to get enough money to buy her a birthday present.
  • Fight Clubbing: She takes part in The Underdark Tournament to win enough money to buy her mom a nice birthday present.
  • First Love: Subverted with Luz, who's first girlfriend was Julia Wittebane.
  • Good Cannot Comprehend Evil: Amity doesn't understand the point of racism.
  • Heroic Build: Downplayed. For a girl her age, she had a surprising amount of muscle.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation:
    • Despite Odalia's words of encouragement, Amity doesn’t believe she can be anything of worth to anyone, being a witch without magic, instead cursed with a Quirk she didn’t even want but was forced to have. She believes she shouldn’t have been born.
    • In chapter 26, Amity is in this mode as she's dismissed by a rude vendor as she's just short on money to buy her mother a much wanted birthday present: black diamond ring. This is due to her forgetting to get her a gift last year, even though Odalia didn't hold it against her.
  • Homeschooled Kids: She was this until she turned 14.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: Amity laments that All For One had destroyed whatever semblance of a normal life she could’ve had as a witch by taking away her chance to have magic.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: Despite having Willow and Boscha, she wishes she had more friends.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Amity still dyes her hair, but not because she was forced to by her mother (in fact she discouraged it). She did it to herself so that she'd look more like a siblings out of spite towards them.
  • Intergenerational Friendship: Eda, who is in her 50s, has one with Amity, who just turned 14.
  • Like Father, Like Son: She's just as kind-hearted and open-minded like her mother.
  • Little Miss Badass: Amity is only fourteen years old, but she's already one of the strongest combatants on the Boiling Isles. Being a wielder of One For All does that.
  • Lonely Rich Kid: She's this like the beginning of the show but for different reasons. Her family's wealth attracted more enemies than allies or people who would wish to get on their good side, only to try and drain money from them. At her introduction she only considers Willow and Boscha her real friends due to seeing who she is beyond her family name and riches.
  • Luminescent Blush: Amity does this out of embarrassment when her mother tells her she's read her diary.
  • Mature Younger Sibling: The twins, Edric and Emira Blight, are both unapologetically irresponsible troublemakers (though Emira generally has more common sense than her brother), while their younger sister is more serious, and well-behaved.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Amity is horrified when she accidently kills her opponent in The Underdark Tournament. The crowd cheering for her for doing so just makes her feel nauseous.
  • Oxymoronic Being: Amity sees herself as a walking paradox: A witch that can't do any real magic.
  • Purple Is Powerful: Her Quirk produces purple sparks from her fists when activated.
  • Questionable Consent: Its heavily implied that Amity's conception was under All For One's Quirk experiment.
  • Replacement Goldfish: It appears she was conceived to be this to All For One.
  • Required Secondary Powers: Amity was born with a bit more muscle than most girls her age. She had to, less she accidentally used it and did irreparable damage to herself with her Quirk. She also had to learn strength control that she didn't accidently break something or someone.
  • Secret Diary: Just like in the show, Amity has one. Her mother recommends she hides it better as it was easier for her to find and read it.
  • Shock and Awe: Her body produces sparks of electricity when she uses One For All.
  • Spock Speak: Odalia taught Amity to speak formally with a small bow when greeting people.
  • Superpowerful Genetics: Amity's birth was essentially a eugenics experiment by All For One to "get back what was rightfully his" with the 2 replica Quirks, including his long dead brother. This resulted her not having magic but becoming a natural born One For All wielder.
  • Super-Speed: An aspect of her Quirk is called "Lightning Mode", makes her so fast that it was as if the world was slowing down around her. Her eyes can comprehend light faster than others when she had activated this part of her power, allowing her to perceive the world slower than others due to how fast she was moving.
  • Super-Strength: One For All allows Amity to use incredible strength to overcome various obstacles. However, she's only about half as strong as Deku.
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial: Amity thinks Toshiko Shigaraki is kind of cute. In a platonic sort of way, of course… Totally…
  • These Hands Have Killed: She doesn't take her Accidental Murder of the Bear Demon well. While the young witches wasn’t afraid of bloodshed, that didn’t mean she liked it.
  • Thou Shall Not Kill: Amity sees killing as beneath her and refuses to stoop to that level.
  • Too Smart for Strangers: Odalia taught her this.
  • The Unfavorite: Amity seems to be this to Alador, due to having a Quirk.
  • Unstable Powered Child: Being born with One For All, Amity often broke things when she was little, with Odalia mostly focused with raising her due to also possessing Super-Strength, too.
  • What Does She See in Him?: A platonic version. Her mother doesn't understand why Amity sees Boscha as a genuine friend and thinks she can do better.
  • Willfully Weak: One For All can take an enormous toll on Amity's body. Even after training with her whole life on being able to effectively use it safely, she can only do so at 5% of One For All's full power (10% at tops risks injury) and has to continually regulate its usage to avoid injuring herself.

    Willow Park

Willow Park

"Y-You’re okay!"

Debut: Chapter 25/ Episode 25: A Late Start To A Wacky World - Part 2

Quirk/ Gift: Quirkless

A shy, awkward and sweet student at Hexside who has been best friends with Amity for years.

  • Adaptational Relationship Overhaul: Willow is still friends with Amity at the story's beginning and is even friends with Boscha, of all people, who's closer to her than Amity.
  • Daddy's Girl: She loves her father very much being glad that he survived his encounter with Toshiko that she tearfully hugs him.
  • Heroic BSoD: Willow goes into this when she thinks Toshiko just fatally wounded her father in front of her. Luckily, Toshiko uses the Healing Hands aspect of her Quirk to prevent Gilbert form dying from his wounds.
  • Nervous Wreck: Odalia sees her as this.
  • Only Friend: Amity considers Willow to be this, as Boscha only seems to hang out with her by coincidence.
  • Shrinking Violet: Odalia notes she was scared of her own shadow.
  • Working-Class Hero: Her family isn't very rich but still tries to do good.
  • You Killed My Father: All For One personally killed Harvey Park, one of her dads.

    Gus Porter

Augustus "Gus" Porter

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gus_porter.png
"The Emperor cannot find out about this place. When I take you to my father, you will answer him honestly. Otherwise… well, I can’t vouch for your safety. Okay?"

Debut: Chapter 26/ Episode 26: A Late Start To A Wacky World - Part 3

Quirk/ Gift: Quirkless

"Welcome to The Underdark. A town that The Emperor doesn’t know about. A safe haven for those who had rejected society and cast aside the law. It’s been a passion project of my fathers ever since the end of the Ten-Year War following The Principals of The Interloper."

A student at Hexside who originates from The Underdark and is studying illusion magic.
  • Conditioned to Accept Horror: He must be to casually admit that people die in the tournament he hosts in The Underdark.
  • Large-Ham Announcer: He plays this up for The Underdark Tournament. This makes sense since he sees his illusion magic, the coven track he's on, as "magic with showmanship".
  • Master of Illusion: Gus is in the illusionists' track and is smart enough to skip a couple of grades.
  • The Mole: He convinces his father to let act as a spy for him when attending Hexside.
  • Name-Meaning Change: In the show he's given the nickname Gus by Luz, here he's already called that due to Augustus being "too wordy" in conversations.
  • Nepotism: Gus worries he might be seen as getting special privileges due his father being the leader of the Underdark, as it goes against his hometown's motto of not valuing status. At least at Hexside, he’ll be treated the same as everyone else.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Gus's full name is Augustus but rarely goes by it due to having too many syllables in it.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: He pretty much looks like a pre-teen version of his father.
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy: Part of the reason he offers to act as his father's spy and tasked with finding Toshiko is implied to be this as well as living up to All For One's ideals, despite Perry warning him how dangerous it could be.

    Boscha

Boscha

Debut:

Quirk/ Gift: Quirkless

A potions student at Hexside who is Amity and Willow's friend and captain of the Hexside Banshees.

Emira (left), Edric (right)

Debut: Chapter 24/ Episode 24: A Late Start To A Wacky World - Part 1

Quirk/ Gift: Quirkless

Amity's older twin siblings. A pair of mischievous pranksters who hail from the Illusionist track at Hexside. The two can sometimes go overboard in their pranks, though.

Tropes that apply to both

  • Adaptational Jerkass: They see their younger sister as freak for being a Quirk user.
  • Big Brother Bully: Amity sees the twins as this, not wanting much to do with her.
  • Fantastic Racism: They have a low opinion and are rude to Quirk users and cyclopes.
  • Jerkass: They can be quite unpleasant to those they see as beneath them.
  • Master of Illusion: Their Hexside uniform is light blue, indicating they're in the Illusionist Track.

Tropes that apply to Edric

The younger of the Blight twins and the relatively more quirky one.
  • Bullying the Dragon: Edric had once tried to strike Amity for “talking back” when they were younger, not remembering who the strongest in the household was second to their mother. He ended up with a few broken bones when his little sister defended herself.

Coven System

The Emperor's Coven

    In General

The highest-ranked coven in the Coven System, the Emperor's Coven operates directly under Emperor Belos as his main enforcers.

  • Cannon Fodder: They were this to All For One during the Ten-Year War as he slaughtered them in droves.
  • Kick the Dog: They promote prejudice towards witch children that have Quirks.
  • Light Is Not Good: They have a white uniform in color with a golden winged sword as their symbol and are enforcing Emperor Belos's tyranny.
  • The Red Mage: This is the only coven that allows their members to use all forms of the magic system.

Philip Wittebane - Emperor Belos (UNMARKED SPOILERS)

Emperor Belos/ Philip Wittebane

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/emperorbelos.png
"So… Humans have superpowers now? Since when?"

Debut: Chapter 16/ Episode 16: Summer Break Shenanigans - Part 3

Quirk/ Superpower: Quirkless.

"All For One, you say? Good… that one… I remember meeting a person who went by that name. It was long ago, 10 years or so. I doubt we’re talking about the same person, but I digress. They almost foiled everything I had planned for, but now that we have a chance to exterminate them, do so."

The mysterious ruler of the Boiling Isles, implementer and overseer of the Coven System, and Humble Messenger for the Titan who brought order and control to the Demon Realm in the wake of the ashes of the so-called "Savage Ages" — or so he claims.

In reality, Belos is actually a 17th century human Witch Hunter named Philip Wittebane, whose only goal is to wipe out all life on the Isles on what he calls the "Day of Unity". He is also working with Tyler Wittebane, his descendant, to murder all superhumans, and is also interested in the current All For One user, due to his past encounter with her predecessor. He is the main antagonist for Season 3.

  • Absolute Xenophobe: Not only does Belos utterly despise the inhabitants of the Boiling Isles but he also isn't too fond of superhumans, either. He loathes the inhabitants of the Boiling Isles. It doesn't matter how much Undying Loyalty they have to him, he hates them all the same. So much so, that he plans to commit mass genocide on them, and has been working on doing so for the last 400 years, just like in in canon.
  • Adaptational Badass: His sludge monster form was no joke in the show, but in this story it grants him enough physical power to smash one of the titan's ribs to pieces (which is about the size of a mountain) and go toe-to-toe with All For One.
  • Always a Bigger Fish: Tyler sees Belos as this to him, especially as he's a powerful witch and he's stuck in his home turf. He was a peasant compared to him being The Emperor, and so he wasn’t going to push his luck by getting on his bad side.
  • The Archmage: He's widely considered the most powerful witch alive. Part of this is due to him limiting everyone who's not in his Coven from accessing only one school of magic while he has access to all of them.
  • Big Bad Duumvirate: He's working alongside Tyler to wipe out the supernatural.
  • Blob Monster: His One-Winged Angel form has his usual amorphous Body Horror qualities.
  • Cain and Abel: Philip, who was a witch hunter, murdered his older brother, Caleb, in cold blood because the latter started a romantic relationship with a witch.
  • Control Freak: He keeps Hunter on a tight lease.
  • Dangerous Forbidden Technique: Its implied he had to resort to his sludge monster One-Winged Angel form to to drive off Shigaraki out of the Boiling Isles.
  • Determinator: Emperor Belos is more than stubborn enough to make sure that his plan to wipe out all of witch and Demon-kind is seen through even after four centuries.
  • The Emperor: He is this of the Boiling Isles.
  • Enemy Mine: Things got so desperate in the Ten-Year War with All For One that he had to pull this with Eda the Owl Lady to drive off the supervillain. As thanks, he pardoned her for her crimes.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: During the war and destruction in Gravesfield, Belos managed to bring his descendant and his pregnant wife in the Boiling Isles, placing them in a guest room for their safety.
  • Evil Learns of Outside Context:
    • In chapter 16, Tyler Wittebane informs Belos that a Mass Super-Empowering Event occurred in the Human Realm a month ago and that there's a new All For One residing there and now they plan to kill them off. However, Tyler leaves out that the new All For One is Luz Noceda.
    • According to Amity, he might be becoming aware that her parents once joined forces with All For One to take the Boiling Isles away from him
  • Evil Makes You Monstrous: Belos's "Day Breaker" form is described by Eda to be just as ugly and disgusting as he was as a person.
  • Evil Overlord: Belos rules over the entire Boiling Isles and the main feature of his regime is the oppressive Coven System with a recruitment policy that is basically "join or suffer". He also set up a Fantastic Caste System, too.
  • Evil Uncle: To the Golden Guard, who is plotting against him to save the Boiling Isles.
  • Evil Versus Evil: He had fought the first All For One user over a decade before the story's beginning.
  • Fantastic Racism: Not only with witches and demons but shares the same sentiment about superhumans too, showing to be glad when Tyler says that the bloodline of the Wittebane’s won’t be tainted due to Julia.
  • Final Solution: Not only does he want to wipe out all witches and demons but Quirk users, too. Hell, it was his idea to start to Death Camps.
  • Glorious Leader: Most residents in the Boiling Isles (especially the Emperor's Coven) sees him as such, despite him only taking the position to further his Evil Plan. Belos takes advantage of everyone's mistaken idea of him and plays along with it, which has earned him his continued stay as The Emperor of the Boiling Isles for past 50 years, helped by the fact he was a key-player in winning the war against All For One. However, the followers of All For One in the Underdark are planning to overthrow him.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: Emperor Belos serves as this during Season 1 & 2. He's working with his descendant Tyler Wittebane to kill off people with superpowers, having helped the Governor and Tyler to set up two Death Camps for them. With the new All For One, Luz Noceda, he even takes a personal interest, having fought her predecessor over a decade before the story started.
  • Humans Are the Real Monsters: Not only is he the human Philip Wittebane, but he's planning to Final Solution the people of the Boiling Isles under the delusion of "saving humanity from evil".
  • Lesser of Two Evils: Eda sees him as this compared to All For One.
  • Living Distant Ancestor: He's a direct ancestor to the Wittebane family, as well as an indirect one to the Clawthornes.
  • Locked Out of the Loop:
    • Emperor Belos didn’t blame the Blights for All For One's actions, but according Amity, conversations with him had been very hostile lately. It seems he's beginning to realize that they were, in fact, somewhat responsible for enabling him to almost take the Boiling Isles from him during the war.
    • So far Belos has no idea that an entire Underground City exists right under his nose. Because of this, The Underdark is a safe haven for those who had rejected society and cast aside the law.
  • Long-Lost Relative: He is this to Tyler Wittebane.
  • Magic Mirror: This is how he is able to communicate with Tyler Wittebane.
  • Meaningful Name: Belos's Day Breaker form is a clear reference to the Day of Unity he has planned.
  • Muscles Are Meaningless: Belos's sludge monster form, despite his frail-looking appearance in that form, he was incredibly strong to the point of shattering one of the ribs of The Titan with his fist alone trying to hit.
  • No-Nonsense Nemesis: He orders Governor Maxwell through Tyler to wipe out all the superhuman kids instead of waiting for a whole week like planned, once he hears there's an All For One user in their captivity.
  • One-Winged Angel: He presented his monstrous creature form comprised of Ominous Obsidian Ooze as this. It was powerful enough to drive off Shigaraki. This form is much faster and stronger than his human form, granting him Super-Strength. According to the history books, it was a Godzilla Threshold and passes it off as a kind of abomination magic. He calls this form "Daybreak" a reference to "Day of Unity".
  • Orcus on His Throne: Belos rarely leaves his palace, partially due to suffering from a rare affliction that he's trying to cure. Instead he sends his Coven Scots to do most of his dirty work.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: His goal for the Boiling Isles is to commit mass genocide against all magical beings, who he claims are "evil". He also plans to to help his descendants kill off Quirk users too.
  • The Witch Hunter: The original one of the Wittebane family.
  • World's Strongest Man: He's the most powerful magic user in the Boiling Isles and one of the few inhabitants that could take on All For One.
  • Vocal Dissonance: Despite being a corrupt, villainous tyrant, Emperor Belos speaks with the voice of a sophisticated gentleman.

    Lilith Clawthorne (UNMARKED SPOILERS)

Lilith Clawthorne

Debut:

Quirk/ Gift: Quirkless

Eda's older sister and a powerful witch. Lilith is the current Head of the Emperor's Coven, the highest authority on the Isles below the Emperor and Titan themselves. She hopes to petition the Emperor for a cure for Eda's curse in return for her sister joining the coven, though Eda isn't too thrilled about the idea.

  • Animal Motifs: In contrast to Eda and her owls, Liliths theme is ravens
  • The Archmage: She's this due to her position as The Leader of The Emperor Coven, aside from The Emperor himself. Lilith rivals her sister, Eda, in magical power and knowledge, and being part of the Emperor's Coven leaves her abilities likewise unrestricted. She's fits also in a much higher social standing, being in a position of authority overseeing magic education and working directly for Emperor Belos.
  • Age Lift: In the show she's in her mid-40s, here she's confirmed to be over 50.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Lilith's fight against All For One cost her right arm.
  • Court Mage: Lilith is the leader of the Coven that answers directly to The Emperor of the Boiling Isles. However, this is downplayed since Emperor Belos resides over the Mage Species, and therefore every member in his court is a "mage".
  • Dark Is Evil: Her clothes are mostly black, with dark blue hair and pale skin. She also who works for the Evil Overlord of The Boiling Isles.
  • Disabled in the Adaptation: Lilith is missing an eye and an arm, unlike in the show.
  • The Dragon: She is this to The Emperor, as Hunter the Golden Guard has no real loyalty to his Evil Uncle and is plotting against him.
  • Eerie Pale-Skinned Brunette: She started out with the skin-tone, but dyed and straightened her originally curly red-brown mop she had as a teenager (along with ditching her spectacles) for the express purpose of looking more imposing and matching the raven theme of the Emperor's Coven.
  • Eye Scream: Lilith lost her right eye to All For One in the war.
  • Handicapped Badass: Despite losing an arm and an eye in the war, Lilith is still the Head of the Emperor's Coven 14 years later.
  • Lady of Black Magic: As the head of the Emperor's Coven, Lilith wears a conservative and elegant black dress and carries herself with an air of properness and composure, in contrast with her Hot-Blooded sister Eda. However, that composure can go out of the window the minute her buttons are pressed or when in situations of high stress and frustration.
  • Teen Genius: In her school years, Lilith had less natural talent than Eda but was much more hard working and studious.
  • Weak, but Skilled: Downplayed. Lilith is far from weak, being one of the few witches to hold her own against All For One, but she lacks the raw magical power of her sister, instead being far more familiar with the theory and basics of magic that her Brilliant, but Lazy sister doesn't bother with.

Hunter - The Golden Guard (UNMARKED SPOILERS)

Hunter/ Golden Guard

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/golden_guard_masked.png
"I am the Golden Guard of Emperor Belos. And you, All For One, will not be leaving this place.''

Debut: Chapter 21/ Episode 21: Death To Normality - Part 3

Quirks/ Gifts: Lightbringer, Super Regeneration (Artificial Duplicate), Selective-Gigantism, and Overclock

Rank: S

"Very well. Let’s make this quick, shall we?"

Emperor Belos's nephew and right-hand man, a highly skilled fighter of the Emperor's Coven despite his young age. Although he might not be as loyal as he appears to be...

He possesses Four Quirks thanks to All For One's meddling. The first one is "Lightbringer", which allows him to manipulate, create, and turn into the element of light, such as fire laser beams. The second one is "Super Regeneration" that allows him to regenerate any sort of injuries at incredible speeds. The third one is "Selective-Gigantism" that allows him to increase the size of his limbs one at a time, with their strength growing the bigger they get. The fourth and last one is "Overclock" that allowed him to move incredibly quickly in short bursts.

  • Adaptational Badass: Thanks to Shigaraki, Hunter has been gifted with 4 powerful Quirks thanks to his Grimwalker physiology making him much more powerful than in the show.
  • Adaptational Relationship Overhaul: In the show, Hunter has Blind Obedience towards his Evil Uncle until near the end of Season 2. Here he recognises him as someone the Boiling Isles needs to saved from and is plotting against him.
  • Affably Evil: Makes polite small-talk with Luz right before he sends her flying across town with his attack.
  • Alliterative Name: His title of Golden Guard is anyway.
  • Armor-Piercing Attack:
    • His Laser Blade is one of the few things that can cut through Luz's Forcefield Projection Quirk. He does so with a single swing.
    • Using 10 seconds he had in his giant form and using it conjunction with his Super-Speed, Hunter throws a punch so fast that it was a blur and Luz can't dodge it, shattering all 80 of her massive barriers.
  • Armored Villains, Unarmored Heroes: He wears a golden mask and his cloak comes with a pauldron, which obscures his visage, unlike Luz who wears regular clothes.
  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: Hunter remarks he only uses his "Selective-Gigantism" Quirk on giant enemies, the most of powerful foes and... giraffes. Those foul creatures...
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: At the climax of the fight, the Golden Guard sucks in a massive gulp of air and activates his Selective-Gigantism enlarged his entire body. He became so large, that people from across the state of Connecticut could see him!
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Hunter deduces that his Healing Factor was inferior to Luz’s. It took longer for him to heal than she did, and it hurt. For her, it didn’t. He figures out that she must have a "Pain Nullification" Quirk on her.
  • Benevolent Boss: He goes out of his way to rescue Millie from Luz.
  • Best for Last: Jonah implies the Golden Guard is this.
  • Bitch Slap: At one point in the fight, Hunter basically pimp slaps Luz through an entire block of houses with seemingly little effort. It takes all of the girl's willpower to not become Blinded by Rage by that.
  • Blow You Away: The Golden Guard's wings made of light are powerful enough to create enough force to make a shockwave that blasted away all the rubble around them with a light flapping.
  • Broken Faceplate: Luz does this to him with her Enhanced Punch, being unable to dodge it. Later, it shatters completely in the climax of their fight.
  • Clothing Damage: He suffers this at the climax of his fight with Luz.
  • Color Motif: Being the Golden Guard, he obviously wears shades of yellow, alluding to his high status within the Emperor's Coven. Hell, the Quirks he got are also this color.
  • Cooldown: Whenever he uses his "Overclock" Quirk, he needs a short time to recover before he can use it again. This creates a small window in which he's vulnerable. The faster he goes while using this Quirk, the quicker he hits cooldown.
  • Dangerous Forbidden Technique: The Golden Guard at the climax of the fight uses his Awakened "Selective-Gigantism" to turn himself into the size of an actual Titan! It only lasts 10 seconds and leaves him completely drained afterwards.
  • Don't Make Me Destroy You: When Luz is at the mercy of her foe, the Golden Guard offers the choice of death or being brought to her enemies as a prisoner.
Hunter: This is the end of the road for you, Luz Noceda, Wielder of The Quirk All For One. Come quietly, or perish.
  • The Dragon: He's this to Belos.
  • Dramatic Irony:
    • Luz tells Hunter that she knows that he didn’t want to kill her, because if he did, you would’ve used a powerful light attack instead. She believes The Dragon gave her a chance to escape using "Warping". Unbeknownst to her, Hunter really was trying to put her down in the end.
    • Hunter believes that now that Luz Noceda was here, The Boiling Isles wasn’t doomed to his Belos's plans... completely unware that the previous All For One user is piggy backing in her mind.
  • Elemental Shapeshifter: He can turn parts of his body in to photon particles to avoid attacks.
  • Empowered Badass Normal: He has become this thanks to the first All For One.
  • Energy Weapon: Hunter can fire laser beams from either his hands with its power strong enough to blow up whole buildings with little effort.
  • Even Evil Has Standards:
    • Considering his judging look, the Golden Guard may be fighting not only because of Just Following Orders but to also avenge the dead innocent bystanders of Luz's fights.
    • Emperor Belos had ordered the Golden Guard to kill All For One, and while he's plotting to take him down, The Dragon isn’t exactly against it considering what the previous version of the man had done.
  • Fantastic Nuke: The Golden's Guard's last attack is described as this from his gigantic punch.
  • Flash Step: His "Lightbringer" and "Overclock" Quirks allow him to seemingly pull this off. Its because this and his Nerves of Steel that allows the Golden Guard to avoid the worst of Luz's attacks.
  • Giant Hands of Doom: His "Selective-Gigantism" Quirk allows him to grow his arms, making them stronger. He fights primarily using her enlarged hands.
  • Godzilla Threshold: Hunter, getting tired from using Overclock, desperate from how much more dangerous his opponent has become and only has 10 minutes to finish the fight before his portal closes, decides to use his Finishing Move to destroy what's left of Gravesfield along with the All For One user. Even this fails to kill her, though.
  • Gold and White Are Divine: Hunter wears a white cloak and gold mask, similar to Emperor Belos, and his "Lightbringer" Quirk gives him the appearance of a holy warrior to Tyler Wittebane. This also overlaps with Light Is Not Good.
  • Hard Light: His Quirk lets him shape light into wings and weapons, like swords.
  • Healing Factor: His second Quirk is "Super Regeneration" that allows Hunter to recover from life-threatening wounds, up to and including missing limbs, organs, bones, muscles, and skin. The process is quite painful though, and often leaves scars, but nothing too damaging. However, unlike Luz's version, this is a replica Quirk, making it slower acting and inferior to the original, as well as doesn't come with pain blocking powers.
  • I Did What I Had to Do: Hunter didn't want to use his Limit Break to (seemingly) kill Luz and obliterate her hometown but he believed he had no choice as it was a Race Against the Clock to get back to the Demon Realm and it looked like the All For One user was trying to kill him.
  • If I Wanted You Dead...: When Luz internally rants she has nothing to counter him with in their fight, despite having 15 different Quirks, Shigaraki decides to tell her he's been holding back the entire time. If he really wanted to kill her, he would’ve done so already. He's just testing her.
Shigaraki: Every blow he delivers is restrained. If he really wanted to kill you, Luz, he would’ve done so already. I was right, he’s only testing you.
  • Internal Reveal: Luz reveals to the Golden Guard she knew that their fight was a Secret Test for her, much to his surprise, as she should have no way of knowing.
  • Irony: At the beginning of the chapter, Hunter notes Luz is accidently destroying the town with she more powerful attacks, seeing all of the panicking civilians and aims to stop her before that happens. By the climax he's the one that destroys Gravesfield after he deems It Is Beyond Saving in the climax of the fight.
  • Just Following Orders: He says this word-for-word to Luz on him trying to capture her for the Wittebanes.
  • Laser Blade: His "Lightbringer" Quirk creates a literal lightsaber.
  • Light 'em Up: The "Lightbringer" Quirk gives him power over and turns him into photon particles.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Thanks to the "Lightbringer" Quirk, he can practically teleport himself anywhere within sight, and his lightspeed attacks deal a lot of damage. This makes him Luz's toughest foe yet, as he has her beat in speed.
  • Magic Pants: Whenever the Golden Guard uses his "Selective-Gigantism" Quirk, it also enlarged the clothing on his body so that it didn’t break.
  • Master Swordsman: Luz sees the Golden Guard as this and he doesn't prove her wrong.
It was clear that, unlike Luz, The Golden Guard was trained in combat—Shigaraki had assumed as such. The way he followed up each swing one after another without tiring, and the way he seemed to command the fight was unparalleled to her previous opponents who were sloppy at best and unable to fight at worst—the only reason Luz was able to get those attacks in was because she had caught him off guard. Now, he was completely in the zone.
  • The Mole: According to Shigaraki, he was able to convince the Golden Guard to become this to him in the emperor's coven and could be a future potential ally for Luz and is about to test her mettle. However, its later revealed Hunter has loyalties towards him.
  • Mythology Gag: Hunter's Flash Step via "Overclock" Quirk sounds a lot like his Super-Speed via Flapjack his Palisman in the show.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: When Luz fires her Deadly Force Field at the Golden Guard, he cuts it in half again. Unfortunately, one half landed on top of the school, and the other half landed on a small group of other buildings. This results massive explosions that blow both parties back a bit, and when the dust settled, all that's left were 2 craters, killing anyone below.
  • Not in This for Your Revolution: Hunter is not a follower of All For One, seeing him as a monster, but secretly works with The Underdark to overthrow Belos. Perry is starting to suspect Hunter has no real loyalty to them.
  • Oh, Crap!: He has this reaction when Luz's Blue Energy Ball almost sucks him up like a black hole.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: According to Shigaraki, his Lightbringer Quirk wasn’t that strong when he first gifted it to him a decade ago. He speculates he awakened it since then from training with it non-stop. Hunter also did this with his "Selective-Gigantism" Quirk, too.
  • Ominous Walk: As The Golden Guard gently lands in the classroom where Luz crashed into, he approaches the down superhuman with each step carrying more and more weight as he moved.
  • Person of Mass Destruction:
    • His laser blasts can destroy several city blocks. Even more unnerving is that he seemingly didn't notice the houses were occupied.
    • The Golden Guard's Finishing Move turns what's left of Gravesfield in a giant crater.
The resulting blast could’ve been felt from the nearest city all the way to the edges of New York. It physically shook the southern part of The United States of America and left destruction for hundreds of thousands of kilometres.
  • Pet the Dog: He helped Skara's father at her request escape his impending execution at great personal risk to himself.
  • Poor Communication Kills: The tragedy of his fight with Luz is just how avoidable all this was. Luz never wanted the fight at all since the beginning and Hunter just wanted to carry out a Secret Test (and to turn her into the Boiling Isles saviour), but unfortunately they both just kept getting pushed to the point where they couldn't hold back anymore. Had either been more willing to talk things out and get on the same page, perhaps Gravesfield would still be standing.
  • Post-Victory Collapse: Played With. The Golden Guard does this at the end of his fight with luz, though its more of a draw than anything else.
  • Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs: He does a variant of this on Luz. The fists are created out of Hard Light that overwhelms her Super-Toughness and sends the girl flying into the air.
  • Required Secondary Powers: Shigaraki explains to Luz that the "Lightbringer" Quirk's weakness is overuse and would cause the user's skin to burn. But because the Golden Guard has a copy of "Super Regeneration", it negates that issue.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: The Golden Guard tries to pull this to get back to the Demon Realm as he remembers its a Race Against the Clock to not be trapped in the Human Realm.
  • Shout-Out: Hunter's "Lightbringer" Quirk is very similar to Glint-Glint Fruit, which allows him to manipulate, create, and turn into the element of light. Luz even refers to him as a Kizaru knock-off.
  • Sizeshifter: He can change the size of his limbs with his "Selective-Gigantism".
  • Smug Smiler: Luz, to her frustration, could practically hear the smirk underneath his helmet as he No Sells all her attacks.
  • Speed Echoes: The Golden Guard does this to make it look like to Luz her Finishing Move landed on him.
Hunter: I was able to speed up my body to the point where it looked like I wasn’t moving. To you, it looked like I got hit. In reality, I had already moved out of the way. Your brain had no way of knowing I had moved because that was how fast I was.
  • Spontaneous Weapon Creation: Hunter's Quirk also allows him to summon a golden sword made out of photon particles to compliment his swordsmanship skills.
  • Strong and Skilled: Unlike the humans in Luz's realm that have had their Quirks for only over a month at most, Hunter has trained with his Quirks for about a decade and is powerful enough to challenge Luz in battle as a serious Wake-Up Call Boss.
  • Super-Speed: His "Overclock" Quirk allows him to move incredibly fast for a few seconds before needing a cooldown. The degree to which he can speed up depends on his situation, and the faster he goes, the quicker he'll hit cooldown.
  • Swiss-Army Superpower: His light-based powers allow him to move at near lightspeed, blast his enemies with lasers, sprout wings for aerial combat, create a Laser Blade and even fire a Sword Beam.
  • Sword Beam: The Golden Guard cuts Luz's Forcefield Projection in half again with this.
  • Teen Genius: Even more so than canon in terms of a fighter. He's only 16 years old, but he already managed to score himself a high position and special treatment in the Emperor's Coven, as well as two awaken his very powerful Quirks: Lightbringer and Selective-Gigantism.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Hunter did from the time Shigaraki first met him over a decade ago.
  • Villain Takes an Interest: The Golden Guard sees Luz, the new All For One user, as ripe for the molding to be the liberator of The Boiling Isles, though he's more of an Anti-Villain.
  • Wake-Up Call Boss: He acts as one to Luz.
  • Wham Line: Hunter reveals to Luz his forth and final Quirk that her Evil Mentor gave him. A Quirk he should NOT have had at the time before his death.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Hunter points out to Luz all the Collateral Damage her fights caused only for the girl to call out his hypocrisy as he contributed to some of it. He concedes to that.
  • Winged Humanoid: He can sprout a pair of bright golden wings made out of light from his back.

Quirk/ Gift: Quirkless

Rank: B

An officer in the Emperor's Coven sent to help the Wittebanes kill Luz.

  • Amazing Technicolor Population: She is described as a witch with grayish-white skin.
  • Avenging the Villain: Millie is hellbent on avenging Riley's death at Luz's hands. It seems Riley's Villainous Friendship with the witch was mutual and beyond mere professionalism.
  • Barrier Warrior: She can summon magic Deflector Shields just barely strong enough to withstand Luz's Giant Hands of Doom long enough for her and Riley to get away.
  • Blasphemous Praise: Downplayed. The Emperor's Coven member momentarily compares her power to be on par with Belos, the most powerful sorcerer on the Boiling Isles, only to reprimand herself for such thoughts.
  • Death Glare: Millie gives Luz one these despite being at her mercy.
  • Dissonant Serenity: Millie, who had witnessed Luz kill one of her comrades in the supermarket fight, simply calls her brutal with a smile on her face.
  • Evil Is Burning Hot: Her fire spells are so hot that it could melt through skin and bone. Not that did any good against Luz's Deadly Force Field.
  • Evil Smells Bad: The abomination sludge she summons is noted by Luz to smell disgusting.
  • Fantastic Racism: Despite willing to work with them under her emperor's orders, Millie considers humans to be pathetic in comparison to witches.
  • Flying Broomstick: Millie meets Luz on this. It has a bullfrog Palisman.
  • Give My Regards in the Next World: Millie tells Luz to say hi to Julia for her when she tries to kill the teen.
  • Gold-Colored Superiority: As a member of the Emperor's Coven, Millie has a white cloak uniform which has a golden emblem, indicating that she is part of the only coven whose members are able to use all kinds of magic. Belos also had enough faith in her abilities to help take down the second All For One user.
  • Green Thumb: Millie can summon Fantastic Flora from her home realm like giant vines the size of tree trunks, great mushrooms to cushion her fall and Venus flytraps like she does in her second fight with Luz.
  • Grin of Audacity: Despite being at Luz's mercy when interrogating her, Millie smirks telling the superhuman that the Wittebanes aren't even in Connecticut anymore, never mind Gravesfield.
  • Hidden in Plain Sight: Millie is able to make her way through the Human Realm masquerading as a young human girl with mutations and an elf theme motif in a society now filling with supernatural powers. Because of this, she's able to blend in quite easily with her superhuman peers none the wiser.
  • If Only You Knew: Millie compares Tyler's Death Glare to Belos's, completely unaware that to are relatives.

  • Lip Losses: Millie's lips are split open by Luz's punch and bleeds profusely.
  • Maker of Monsters: She's capable of creating up to 10 large Abominations, purple humanoid Blob Monsters that mindlessly follow the commands of their summoner.
  • Mistaken Identity: Millie believes that Luz and Shigaraki are the same All For One, despite one being a teenaged girl and the other being a full-grown man.
  • Nasal Trauma: Luz punches Millie in the face so hard she breaks her nose and bleeds a lot.
  • Obligatory Earpiece Touch: Millie does this when she calls Charlie for help them escape Luz.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Millie looks on in terror as Luz does a Pulling Themselves Together after being blown up.
    • In chapter 18, she freezes in fear when she realises that Jonah has a gun at the back of her head.
    • She later has this reaction when Luz plans to cripple her from waist down and can't escape.
  • Older Than They Look: Luz notes she looks like a 10-year but since she's a member of the Emperor's Coven she's most likely at least a young adult around Lilith's age.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Despite being just under 5 ft. tall, Millie is still part of the emperor's elite witches can is able hold her own against Luz in their fight, doing serious damage to her.
  • Playing with Fire: She can unleash a column of magic fire from glyph circles.
  • Pointy Ears: Luz notices Millie's are like that of an elf's, not knowing she's actually a real life Witch.
  • Prepare to Die: She says this Luz before engaging in their fight.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Millie has ruby-red eyes and is a member of the Emperor's elite members.
  • The Red Mage: As an officer of the Emperor's Coven, Millie is allowed to use all forms of magic.

  • Shock and Awe: She can also fire lightning bolts.
  • Squishy Wizard: Or in this case Squishy Witch. Being part of the Emperor's Coven means she has access to all forms of magic for her kind, making her one of Luz's toughest opponents yet. However, her physical strength and durability is the same as a human being's, being the size of a 10-year means she can't do much damage with her bare hands. All it takes is one strong punch from Luz to defeat her.
  • Summon Magic: Millie can use Abomination magic in the form of a tidal wave, which Luz is able to block with her Deflector Shields or power through with Unstoppable Rage.
  • This Cannot Be!: She has this reaction when Luz unleashes her full power in her Unstoppable Rage mode.
  • Undying Loyalty: Millie has this for Emperor Belos.
  • Villain Has a Point: When Riley expresses surprise at Gravesfield's police force being corrupt, Millie points out that corruption can happen anywhere in any organisation.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Millie has this when she witnesses Luz kill Riley.
  • Villainous Friendship: She seems to enjoy working with Riley. After witnessing her death at the hands of Luz she plans on Avenging the Villain by her own hands.

Luz counters that she just told them where the Wittebanes weren't not were they are, and that she's just going to try to kill her again later under orders, Luz has to make sure that she can never pursue her again. Millie is only saved by the timely arrival of Hunter the Golden Guard.

  • Dark Is Not Evil: Darius specializes in abomination magic and is associated with purple, yet he is one of the rebel Coven Heads.
  • The Mole: He secretly works for All For One's followers to stop the Day of Unity.
  • Mole in Charge: Darius infiltrated the Coven system to take it down from the inside after rising to a high position, having officially become the Abomination Coven Head. However, given his position and what it was he has to do, it makes things a lot hard on the man to carry out his role. After all, he had less time in the day to meet up with Perry to report back on any information when he could. His tight schedule already made that difficult, so tasking him with something else like tracking down Toshiko just seemed too cruel to Perry.
  • Secret-Keeper: He's working with All For One's followers to take down Belos.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: He's known to have a running rivalry with Alador.

Gilbert and Harvey Park

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/willowsdads.png
Harvey (Deceased) and Gilbert (Alive)

Debut: Chapter 25/ Episode 25: A Late Start To A Wacky World - Part 2

Quirk/ Gift: Quirkless

"I shouldn’t have attacked her or tried to, anyway. I almost died… Willow would’ve been without a Dad… I don’t want her to be homeless…"

Willow's fathers. Harvey died near the end of the Ten-Year War, leaving Gilbert devastated and left to raise Willow as a single father.
  • Adaptational Relationship Overhaul: Unlike the show where they never interacted, Gilbert is friends with Eda who helped him cope with his husband's murder.
  • Blinded by Rage: He becomes this when he lays eyes on Toshiko, as she reminds him of the man who murdered his husband and tries to attack her.
  • Crusading Widower: Gilbert tries to do this on Toshiko, as All For One murdered his husband and she looked like him. Key word being "try" here.
  • Death by Adaptation: Harvey was killed in the war not long after Willow was born.
  • Death Seeker: Eda recalls how a broken Gilbert was with the loss of Harvey in the war going as far as to go to her so she could end his life, but she refused knowing Harvey wouldn’t have wanted that and would've left poor Willow an orphan, as she wouldn't be able to care for her properly.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: Since he studied in the construction track, Gilbert would have access to rock manipulation and creating constructs out of rock.
  • Eye Scream: He gets stabbed in the eye by Toshiko. Luckily, she heals him.
  • Good Parents: Willow had a loving relationship with Gilbert growing up, comforting her when upset.
  • Impaled Palm: He gets stabbed right through the fist he was going to strike Toshiko with by her Absurdly Sharp Claws.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Toshiko responses to his attack by giving him a does of this with her Spear Fingers faster than the witch father could react.
  • The Lost Lenore: Harvey is this to Gilbert.
  • The Mourning After: Gilbert never moved on from losing Harvey to a new love.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: When Gilbert comes to his senses, he acknowledges that shouldn’t have tried to attack Toshiko, feeling remorse.
  • Posthumous Character: Unlike the show, Harvey is long dead before the start of the story, thanks to All For One during the war.
  • You Remind Me of X: To Gilbert, Toshiko's appearance reminds him of All For one, the madman who murdered his husband.

Blight Family

    In General
  • Dysfunctional Family: Amity claims her family is this due to All For One's meddling.
  • Fiction 500: Downplayed. They're one of, if not the richest family in the Boiling Isles. It also makes it difficult to find a good birthday present for them.
  • Prestige Peril: The Blight name came their fair share of enemies. Most were political but others genuinely hated her family for harbouring Shigaraki in their home during the war.

    Odalia Blight (UNMARKED SPOILERS)

Odalia Blight

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/odalia_blight_6.png
"Just because you don’t have magic, doesn’t mean you can’t be a powerful protector of the Isles."

Debut: Chapter 24/ Episode 24: A Late Start To A Wacky World - Part 1

Quirk/ Gift: Stockpile (Artificial Duplicate), Quirkless (Formerly)

Edric, Emira and Amity's mother, and a once influential and powerful witch in the social hierarchy of the Boiling Isles. She's works as a saleswoman for Blight Industries and appears to have changed for the better since the war.

Her Emitter-Class Quirk is called "Stockpile" — the same one that was used to create One For All in canon — its an accumulation based power, which allows her to stockpile raw strength over time. Its strength is only limited by her own lifespan.

  • Abusive Parents: Refreshingly averted!
  • Adaptational Nice Girl: Surprisingly, Odalia seems a much more better parent than her real life counterpart, caring for Amity’s mental health. She's also less concerned about money, as well.
  • Age Lift: Unlike the show where she's in her mid-40s, here she just turned 36.
  • The Alcoholic: Implied. According to Alador, she drinks too much wine.
  • The Atoner: After her deal with Shigaraki went horribly wrong for her and her family, Odalia became this.
  • Break the Haughty: Its heavily implied to happen to her after her encounter with All For One. On the plus side the experience did make her a better person.
  • Cannot Spit It Out: According to Amity, her mother had a hard time being honest with her regarding things that she wanted or expected from others.
  • Cunning Linguist: She's the only one in her family that can speak and translate Japanese. Likely learned from All For One.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: According Alador, before Shigaraki came along she was a far more distant woman. Far more reserved and hardly ever showed love to anyone.
  • Discard and Draw: While she no longer has oracle magic, Odalia instead has a Super-Strength power given to her by Shigaraki.
  • Education Mama: Like in the show, she cares a lot about Amity's academic performance, albeit in a non-abusive way.
  • Everything's Sparkly with Jewelry: Odalia wanted a black diamond ring for her birthday more than anything else in the world (besides her family).
  • Fantastic Racism: This is averted, unlike the show. She raised Amity to defy this trope.
  • Forgotten Birthday: Downplayed. Last year Amity forgot to get Odalia a birthday present. While the girl felt guilty about it and wants to make up for it, Odalia didn't hold it against her.
  • A Gift for Themselves: Odalia believes this trope depreciates the value of the present.
  • Good Parents: Odalia is this to her children, especially Amity letting her know she can still be powerful protector of the Isles without having magic.
  • Greed: Averted. This Odalia could care less about material desires when compared to her family.
  • Helicopter Parents: Odalia coddled Amity and showered her in gifts to make her feel loved despite the Fantastic Racism she suffers from.
  • Jerkass Realization: Its implied this happened to Odalia after her deal with Shigaraki went wrong.
  • Mama Bear: Perry figures out Amity came to the Underdark tournament without parent’s knowledge, due seeing Odalia as a guard dog when comes to her kids.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Perry described Odalia as this prior to her encounter with All For One.
  • My Beloved Smother: She can be this to Amity.
  • Noblewoman's Laugh: Averted. She has a more natural laugh.
  • Personality Powers: She has strived to become a "stronger" (and better) person ever since she had a reality check in her encounter with All For One that nearly cost her everything.
  • Stronger with Age: The raw power of "Stockpile" it bestows Odalia cultivate over time.
  • Super-Strength: Odalia's Quirk allows her to gain physical strength over time. This is likely the reason why she spent more time raising Amity than with the twins, making sure she didn’t accidentally break anything as a toddler, due to having One For All.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: This happened spanning 14 years before the story began, going from evil to the core to a doting mother.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: Inverted. Odalia admits she was a brat when she was Amity's age and only got better when she grew up.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Odalia gives this speech to Amity who is nervous about going to school with her magical peers.
Odalia: Amity. You need to have more faith in yourself. You might not be able to use Magic, but you have a Gift. A Gift that, while it was forced upon you by That Man, at the very least you’ll be stronger than all the rest. Magic can only take a Witch so far when they’re restricted to only one thing. You’re Unique. Don’t forget about that.

    Alador Blight

Alador Blight

Debut:

Quirk/ Gift: Quirkless, Quirk Bestowal (Artificial Duplicate) (Formerly)

The Blight siblings' absent-minded but intelligent father. He specializes in creating home security weapons out of abominations being described as the "greatest abomination inventor of our time".

His Quirk was Quirk Bestowal — the same one Yoichi originally had in canon — it allowed him to transfer the Quirk itself to another person by having them ingest a sample of his DNA.

  • Age Lift: He is presumably in mid-30s instead of his 40s in this story, around the same age as his wife, .
  • Brought Down to Normal: He became this when he got rid of his Quirk and it took 3 years regain his magic back to continue his work.
  • Career-Ending Injury: Downplayed and Played With. When All For One gave Alador a Quirk against his will, he couldn't perform any sort of magic, including the creation of abomination for his inventions. It took giving it away and 3 years for his bile sac to show signs of recovery and then a further decade to it full return to its its former splendour for him to get back to business.
  • Fantastic Racism: Apparently the twins got their low views on Quirk users from him, mostly likely from his experience with All For One, despite having a loving wife and daughter that have Quirks.
  • Parents as People: While Alador doesn't hate Amity, he's reluctant to even look at her in the eyes on the best of days, due to being a constant reminder of what All For one did to them.
  • Power Up Letdown: He considered the Quirk Shigaraki gave him to be this, as it cost him his ability to use abomination magic. He was glad to be rid of it.
  • The Rival: He's well-known in the Boiling Isles for being Darius's.
  • Super-Empowering: A limited version. His replica Quirk allowed him to transfer his abilities to another person. He got rid of it not long after Amity was born.

The Underdark

    In General
"Strength Above Status, Ideals Above Rules, and Emotions Above Morals"
The city's mantra.

A city built below Bonesborough after the Ten-Year War, hidden from Belos, based around the Interloper's ideals.

  • Always Night: The Underdark is constantly shrouded in night-like darkness, due to being underground, which is why it has glow-shrooms.
  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: Strength Above Status is one of their mottos.
  • Badass Creed: See the quote above.
  • Dark World: Downplayed. Its like an exact copy of Bonesborough, the town above, but its moral alignment isn't much worse than it.
  • Deadly Game: Unlike the witch's duals above ground, which are known for often causing gratuitous harm to the combatants, here killing the opponent is perfectly acceptable.
  • Eat the Rich: They don't a high opinion on most elites, but they do allow them into the city.
  • Equal-Opportunity Evil: There is far less Fantastic Racism here than on the surface, being friendly to social outcasts than above ground, despite it being run by All For One's followers.
  • Evil Is Not Well-Lit: The Underdark, a town mostly controlled by All For One's followers, is constantly shrouded in night-like darkness, due to being underground.
  • Fight Clubbing: There's a giant stadium built for this here.
  • Mushroom House: Many of the houses here seemingly made of giant mushrooms, with smaller ones growing from them. Their the stalks have glassless windows carved into it with stone doors. Dark blue mushrooms are for those in power, compared to the usual red and brown ones. There were no chimneys most likely because mushrooms were very flammable.
  • Neon City: The Underdark falls into this category by necessity since the only light it gets is artificial from glow-shrooms in the place of street lamps.
  • Secret Underground Passage: The entrance to it from the surface is through this at the back of the Porter family house with a staircase leading to it.
  • Underground City: Its roughly around the same size and layout of Bonesborough, the largest town in the Boiling Isles, with facilities like a school called Lightborne, a library, and even its own museum. It also has a colosseum the size of Hexside.
  • Vice City: The Underdark is this compared to Bonesborough, being big on freedom and individuality.
  • Your Terrorists Are Our Freedom Fighters: All For One's followers are the resistance to those that don't follow Belos's rule to many, despite the death toll.

  • Necessarily Evil: He's fully aware of Shigaraki's Witch Experimentation, as the villain wouldn’t take up the opportunity to do something to people whom he saw as worthy vessels. Perry saw it as evil, yes, but ta necessary evil, with The Blights as a prime example by recreating One For All through Amity.

"I’m your faithful host of this year's tournament, Raine Whispers. I’m glad you'd all see me here again, it is as much of an honor as it was the last two years I’ve taken up this place to be my home."

Debut: Chapter 28/ Episode 28: A Late Start To A Wacky World - Part 5

Quirk/ Gift: Quirkless

"Ladies, gentlemen, and all of those in between! I welcome you to the third round of the qualifiers of our annual battle of the champions!!"

The former Head of the Bard Coven who succeeded Scooter Crane. To the rest of Realm they died fighting All For One's army but is secretly alive and helping plot Belos's downfall. Raine is non-binary and is referred to with they/them pronouns.
  • Ambiguously Evil: Raine originally fought against All For One during the war, but now seems to believe in his ideals 14 years later. Amity even wonders if they had faked their death and had been with The Interloper from the get-go.
  • The Bard: As the former head of the Bard Coven, Raine is a brilliant musician. They can channel their magic through their viola.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: Raine and Eda met as teens and became friends. Raine eventually transferred over to Hexside and at some point, they began dating before breaking up.
  • Faking the Dead: Everyone, including Eda, believed that Raine had perished in the war, with grave for them. They had survived the mortal wound and had been in hiding for the past 14 years in The Underdark. Although this does come with the drawback of being tired of being cooped up in the Underdark and never coming to the surface.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: They apparently to spear to the chest by one of The Interloper's henchmen, which was thought to have gone through their heart.
  • Large-Ham Announcer: They act as this during the tournament with their performance anxiety a non-issue due not being visible to the audience.
  • Necessarily Evil: Raine doesn't necessarily believe in All For One's ideals, but a world free of war and suffering is something that they had wanted for a very long time, so for All For One to offer such a thing was what had brought them on board.

    Dr. Hilbert Jade

Hilbert Jade

Debut:

Quirk/ Gift: Quirkless

Father of Skara and a scientist who had been living down in the Underdark City with his daughter for the past four years.

  • Can't Get Away with Nuthin': Hilbert was a well-renowned scientist that was arrested the one time he tried making an illegal potion per the request of someone in the Emperor’s Coven. Said member was caught and executed for that, and Hilbert had been next in line for execution had Hunter not rescued him and brought him to Perry to flee Bonesborough.
  • Mad Scientist: He was part of the Emperor Coven's science division and is now trying to recreate the Nomu for Perry.
  • Power Copying: Dr. Hilbert was able to make a copy of the Quirk "Super Regeneration" and Super-Strength from a sample that was left behind by The Doctor. However, the part he's struggling with was the fact that he can’t get the copied Quirk to stick with the new bodies. They would appear and then filter out.

Quirk/ Gift: Quirkless

  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Implied. She walked out of her fight without so much as a scratch on her body - which was insane considering Cyclops were naturally stronger and faster than witches.
  • The Red Mage: As a Covenless witch, she has access to all forms of magic.
  • Wild Card: Amity considers Grun to be this due to being a powerful wild witch.

    Hindter Wrathson

Hindter Wrathson

Debut: Chapter 26/ Episode 26: A Late Start To A Wacky World - Part 3

Quirk/ Gift: Quirkless

A bear demon who is a four-time champion in The Underdark Tournament, until he fights against the newcomer Amity.

  • Asshole Victim: Amity killed him by accident in their fight, but considering he was fully prepared to kill her, a teenaged girl, for money its hard to feel bad for him.
  • Attack Its Weak Point: An unintentional example on Amity's part. Apparently, bear demons have fragile skulls and Amity's Super-Strength powered kick turned his brain into mush.
  • Bears Are Bad News: He's a large, muscular brown bear demon who joined a colosseum tournament that can become a Deadly Game with no quarrels if his opponent is a high-school girl. To him its easy cash.
  • The Berserker: Fitting for a Bear Demon, he has been known to fight like this against particularly strong opponents.
  • Blood from Every Orifice: As he dies, blood leaked out of his eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Blood Lust: His eyes are described as being full of this when he's losing to Amity.
  • Elemental Punch: He can deliver a black fire punch.
  • Human Resources: Or rather demon resources in this case. His corpse is being taken to made into a Nomu.
  • Jawbreaker: His jaw gets broken by Amity's kick.
  • Major Injury Underreaction: Hindter's reaction to Amity breaking his jaw is to chuckle and comment he underestimated the girl.
  • Mighty Glacier: He's this to Amity: Big, tough but not nearly as fast.
  • Our Demons Are Different: He's a bear-like Bipedal Demon able to access magic, although its generated directly from his heart, as he had no bile sac to use magic from.
  • Playing with Fire: Hindter has access to a unique Fire Magic.
  • Sickening "Crunch!": His skull makes this sound as Amity kicks him in the head a little too hard, killing him, much to her horror.
  • Technicolor Fire: His "Beast Flames" are black in color
  • Underestimating Badassery: Hindter assumes beating Amity will be a cakewalk, completely unaware she's a wielder of One For All. Hindter lampshades that he shouldn't have done this trope before he dies.
  • Would Hit a Girl: Hindter doesn't care what his opponent's gender is, he has no plans on holding back to get that prize money.
  • Would Hurt a Child: His opponent being a teenager doesn't make him pause or even consider going easy on the child.
Hindter: I’m gonna rip out ya insides, little brat. Easiest 100 Snails I’ll ever make.
