For some reason, this idea just randomly popped into my head: "Why don't I get people to make a sort of short list of tropes that apply to their characters?"

I'll start off with a list of tropes that apply to four of my characters (the ones that I use in the Three Character Questions thread): Akiko, Mikami, Inagi, and Mizuki. I'm only going to list the tropes that I can think of off the top of my head - to keep it short. Short explanations can be at the discretion of the poster.

Akiko

  • Action Girl
  • Bottle Fairy She has a drinking problem. Developed as a(n) (unhealthy) coping mechanism.
  • Bi The Way
  • Protagonist She shares the spotlight with a few canon characters, actually.
  • Eye Scream Loses one eye, then the other later.
  • Heroic BSoD After Mizuki's death, she has one.
  • Unwanted Spouse This feeling is mututal between her and her husband.
  • Healing Factor
  • The Stoic Usually.
  • Half-Human Hybrid
  • All the Other Reindeer
  • The Oldest Profession
  • Good Bad Girl Kind of - she does go into the above profession thinking she'll dig herself out of poverty and get filthy rich quickly - she's woefully ignorant of how the system works for a good while.
  • Never Learned to Read She eventually learns to write her name and her daughter's name, but never progresses beyond that.
  • Animal Features She has dog ears instead of human or normal demon ones, amber eyes with slitted pupils (turns out that amber eyes are a legitimate pigmentation, too), white hair, claws in place of fingernails, and fangs.
  • Antihero She's rude, puts her survival first above that of others, and is motivated largely by greed (along with a strong desire for self-preservation, and a need to prove her older brother and apparently the rest of her father's former Youkai court wrong.) And she will refuse to help you if you can't offer her something in return.
  • Teenage Pregnancy She has a daughter at the mental (read: emotional and mental maturity) and physical age of 17. In human years, she's about 166. (I obtained this value from a journal written by deviantArt user *M-Skirvin. The calculations, and the theories behind them are hers - I claim no credit whatsoever. The entry I'm drawing this information from can be found here: http://m-skirvin.deviantart.com/journal/30093951/) She learns that being a teenaged parent is...not easy.

Mikami

  • Love Interest To Akiko. Akiko is also her Love Interest.
  • Lipstick Lesbian
  • Yamato Nadeshiko Being the shipped-off daughter of a member of the Fujiwara (yes, the same Fujiwara clan that actually existed, and married its daughters to the emperors to gain political influence), she was trained to be this, and she does it well. It also just comes with being a noblewoman in this time period.
  • Disposable FiancĂ© Averted. He's not disposable - she relies on him to support her, and she must keep her trips to the Pleasure Quarters (read: old-fashioned Japanese Red Light District) from attracting his notice (by manipulating his accounts - women were expected to handle money, because it was seen as an unbecoming activity for a warrior or nobleman to do so himself - to cover the expenses).
  • Hide Your Lesbians She and Akiko must do this, not because they fear disapproval of the fact that their relationship was homosexual (since such relationships were quite common during this time), but because of their immense difference in social class/status. She's a noblewoman, Akiko is a member of the "Outcast through potentially reparable social transgression" class. The two didn't mix - hence, this getting out would cause a huge scandal, and extreme shame to her fiancee's/husband's family.

Inagi

Mizuki

...She actually doesn't really have enough development for me to write one for her yet.

Sorry for the really long post... -_-; Maybe I went a little overboard...

But, anyways, have fun! Try to only do ones that pop into your head right away - it'll likely make it shorter. (In which I failed rather spectacularly.) I'd love to see what tropes your characters have!

Meh, why not. This is by no means definitive, I'm still tweaking the characters:

Yuki:

Amaya:

Tareth:

Keaira:

That's the four mains, they still need to be fleshed out a bit (particularly Tareth), plus there's some side characters that take on more major roles later.

This was harder than I would have expected. I can't think of many that fit either of my main characters.

Both both of them are nonhuman, and suffer Fantastic Racism complete with Fantastic Slurs.

  • Dirty Business: Is less than pleased about some of what Seth puts him through, but given that he works for the guy he doesn't have much of a choice.
  • Cool Old Guy (Pushing 60)

More for the individual Three Amigos' tropes

Yuuichi Yamada: The Hero of the story, a Medium in practicing.

Takeshi Kazuma

One of Yuuichi's classmate and Three Amigos. Very hyperactive, boastful, and clingy around Yuuichi. The Berserker, and the founder and the leader of Children of Asura.

I'm gonna have to be careful since I have Loads And Loads Of Characters. So I'll just name a few. Be warned I'm fairly Trope Overdosed for what I have planned.

(Sergeant, later Captain) Mathias "Mat" Watkins

  • The Hero
  • Action Hero: In the sense that he's not afraid to stick his neck out on the line when the mission or his fellow soldiers in arms needs it.
  • Badass Boast: "Because there is nobody it cannot cut!" In regards to his sword he named Blade Zero.
  • Brown Eyes
  • Scars Are Forever: Carries a prominent sword cut scar on his left cheek after a run in with the Preyaran Lancer Anzan just prior to joining the military. Throughout the series, several more scars form.
  • Hurting Hero: After his sister Samantha shoves him out of the way and takes the blade from Soras in Rio AzĂşl (she survives), he feels a great anger and shame for having not done enough to protect her. This actually spills out into the open at times.
  • Dead Little Sister: she didn't die but by no means did it not have an effect on him.
  • Honor Before Reason: He runs on a code of honor enforced heavily. Especially against Anzan. In a way it's also Deconstructed as in one case he has a free clear shot to easily take Anzan out as he's fighting Jessie but he won't take the shot, not because he'll miss but because his honor code stipulates that would be the coward's way of dealing with somebody he knew that way. The part ends with him thinking 'sometimes he hated having a code of honor...'
  • Le Parkour: Like his best friend since childhood Tenchi Yamanaka, he uses this on multiple occasions to get some places.
  • Red Oni: Compared to Tenchi's blue. He's far more impulsive, Hot-Blooded, and prone to doing things in the spur of the moment.
    • Hot-Blooded: There are a number of times he gets to play this part.
  • Incoming Ham: "LET...HER...GO!" The opening line when he meets Soras in regards to his sister.
  • Katanas Are Just Better: He has one made of Invincium by his adoptive father figure Master Matsui Yamanaka. Tenchi carries a pair of Kodachi as contrast.
  • Hard Work Hardly Works: Subversion. He's a natural in the arts of war, but loses to the more experienced and disciplined Tenchi when it comes to sword skill. He even admits it. He's even a weaker marksman than Daniel but then again Daniel has been playing as a soldier nearly his whole life and hasn't told anyone.
  • Universal Driver's License: Comes with the territory of being selected for Assault Team: Bravo.
    • Badass Driver: Along with Tenchi, he can pull off quite good feats in a vehicle that simply cannot be boiled down into a single sentence.
  • Bash Brothers: With Tenchi.

(Corporal, later First Lieutenant) Tenchi Yamanaka

(Corporal, later First Lieutenant) Daniel

Colonel Barry Smith

  • Boisterous Bruiser: He's big and tall, he's strong, he's loud and off duty he's possibly the best friend you could ever make.
  • The Big Guy: At 6'8" and well over 250 pounds he's positively huge. And he has the strength of it to boot.
  • Cool Old Guy: When he's introduced, he's 48 years old with over 20 years of experience under his belt. 3 years have passed since then so by current point I've written in the story he's now 51.
    • Badass Grandpa: He's easily one of the oldest characters in the series to actually be involved in the conflict.
  • Colonel Badass
  • Eyepatch of Power: He lost his left eye in a secret operation long ago and covers it with a patch.
  • Scary Black Man: Only if you are opposing him on the battlefield. Otherwise he's faithful to his wife of many many years, a good father towards his children (one of whom his son Joseph is a soldier in the story) and respectful/friendly to those around him.
  • Bald Of Awesome
  • Badass Baritone: He speaks in a deep tone. His son Joseph sounds remarkably familiar.
  • Seen It All: He's seen the full capabilities the Preyaran Lancer Corps can do across his many years of service yet he is still amused by the events that happen. This also contributes to...

Anzan

  • The Rival: He's the rival to Mat, started with a simple brawl in San Francisco when they were younger. Their next contact is years later on the battlefield and they both still remember. The rivalry only heats up from there the rest of the first book. (That I have planned at least.)
  • Blue Eyes
  • You Gotta Have Blue Hair: Like many of his race, Anzan has hair colors that aren't really found in Terrans. His own blue color matches that of his father the Swordmaster Khornan when he was younger.
  • Curtains Match the Window
  • Ace Pilot: He's one of the better pilots qualified to fly the A-22 "Mirai" starfighter. This works to his advantage on his ground missions when he can take to the skies in an A-16 "Yousei" (commonly referred to as "Fairy" by both sides) attack helicopter or another Preyaran aircraft.
  • Le Parkour
    • Roof Hopping: Mentioned later on in the line: "Growing up in Antara you learn quickly that often the fastest way to get somewhere is by rooftop". He actually practices this along with Le Parkour multiple times before the line.
  • Honor Before Reason: Of the warrior type honor. Much more traditional example than Mat is.
  • The Only One Allowed to Defeat You: In the third book, this is a major part to play why he's been so willing to aid Mat and the Terrans. He even goes so far as to save Mat from a nigh mortal wounding at the hands of the Vyron commander Nees. (Nees left before Anzan got there, but Mat was then out of the fight. This reason comes as a bit of a surprise to Mat when he's told this.)

Staff Sergeant Jessebelle "Jessie" Marietta Noland

That's a few of my characters right now. Perhaps I'll list more later.

John D. Gierro

  • The Gunslinger (type C and D).

  • Touched by Vorlons (Starts off relatively mild and in a straight way, then it gets beefed up a bit by people who were also TBV passing the touch on to him.)

  • Blasting It Out of Their Hands (Usually he doesn't have to, but he does demonstrate being able to at one point.)

  • The Insomniac (type C)

  • Klatchian Coffee (What he makes, in keeping with his insomnia. To be specific, it's not that he can't sleep at night, it's that he doesn't want to, for various reasons)

  • Lethal Chef ("John, that stew you cooked? I think it's growling at us." "Nah. 's Just th' pot creaking a bit." "That pot's made from stainless steel. How much tabasco did you put in there?" "Uh...how much goes in a coffee cup?" "Hey Ant, turns out it's pemmican for dinner again. Get the can opener.")

  • Fire Breathing Dinner (Bit of a low-key version resulting from his lethal cooking skills.)

  • Masochist's Meal ("I've got two keys for food...'s gotta be plenty of it, and it's gotta make you cry tears of hot liquid sadness." "Yep, pemmican for dinner again. Good to know.")

  • Bad Dreams (incredibly vivid nightmares or something low-key involving converation with the Luison. He doesn't like either of them, which is why he sleeps during the day rather than at night.)

  • Cluster F-Bomb (The most likely of the three to endulge in this.)

  • Power Trio (The id)

  • Anti-Hero ( Preconventional morality is his bread and butter. He wasn't exactly "raised".)

Anthony Mc Errity

  • The Smart Guy (A self-described "Renaissance man and a scholar".)

  • Non-Action Guy (Most of the time, except when he segues into...)

  • Badass Bookworm (He has his moments. Key ones are blowing a Hyenaman's head off with a shotgun at point-blank range, leading him to declare "I am a FOUNTAIN OF PURE MACHISMO! I am a GOD in the shape of a MAN!", before meekly giving Maria her shotgun back, and dead-eye throwing a lit stick of dynamite down the throat of a dragon-thing. Even he doesn't know how he pulled that one off, although he does comment that "it made a nice splatter. Smells like rotten fish and soiled nappies, though.")

  • Mean Brit (Averted. Due to things in this version of America going a bit differently, though, he has to put up with some stereotyping - John even expects that he'll be bossing him around, telling him what to do when they first meet, but he doesn't. "I'd be happy to, though. If it makes you feel better.")

  • Deadpan Snarker ("Yes, John. Blowing up the gunboat while you were still on it was obviously the best course of action you could take, there. Applause, everyone!")

  • Bi The Way (Very secretive about it, though.)

  • Ho Yay (A bit, with John. If John picks up on it, he doesn't seem to mind. He's not averse to holding Ant's hands when he complains they're cold, though he does comment that "we're getting you some gloves".)

  • Blind Without 'Em (Averted. He's short-sighted, so when his glasses do get knocked off, he can still see up close to some degree.)

  • Training from Hell (John teaching him how to use a gun. "I've been standing under the hot sun for three hours, squinting at a few rocks on a stone at least a hundred feet away! I feel as if I'm going to die!" John's reply? "Well, don' do that.")

  • Who Names Their Kid "Dude"? (Has this reaction when John tells him the "D" stands for "Danger", after which Maria tells him that it really stands for "Daniel".)

  • Bilingual Bonus (He tries to pull this off. In a tiny subplot, they need directions, which a pair of Dutch cattle rustlers have (author cameo time!). He tries speaking to them in Dutch. Turns out his Dutch isn't nearly as good as he thought ("It's like German, but less shouty. I can do this, easily, watch me. (Translated from this point on) Excuse me, gentlemen!" "Pfff...here comes one of those British cocksuckers." "Barkeep, give us another round, if you please." "Uhm, gentlemen...my friendships and I are bewondered as to dealing with you." "Dealin' with us? Them's fightin' words." "Uhm - you are having the information, which pertains to, ehm, Pistolman Diggsby, yes?" "The hell's this clown goin' on about?" "Best I can make out from that mangled rubbish is that he's going to deal with us, and something about pistols." "Well..." (Both of them draw revolvers and point them at Anthony.) "Let's see about that." (Back in English again.) "...I believe there's been a slight misunderstanding, John." "You don't say." (Maria silently facepalms.) This is where John demonstrates how to blast the guns out of two men's hands.

  • Gosh Dang It to Heck! (Usually. He does have a few moments, usually coupled with his Badass Bookworm bits, but mostly he restricts himself to "cor blimey", "rats", and "damn".)

  • Power Trio (The superego)

Maria

  • No Last Name Given (She's not fond of her father, and therefore doesn't use his name.)

  • Action Girl (The real kind. The combat-boots-on, foul-talking, shotgun-toting flavour, specifically.)

  • Small Girl, Big Gun (A less cute and more subtly sexy variation on the usual theme. See "shotgun-toting". Two barrels, click, blam.)

  • I Call It "Vera" (John points out that naming your shotgun "Shotgun" isn't exactly in line with the usual habit. She asks if he'd rather she call it "Mister Click, Blam, Blam, And Then There's A Hole Where Your Face Used To Be, Yankee Doodle". "...on second thought, Shotgun's a fine name. Think I'll name m' firstborn son Shotgun, if I ever have one.")

  • The Medic

  • Rapunzel Hair (Hangs well down to her arse- [smacked] err, waist. She uses it to hide the sling she keeps her shotgun in.)

  • Tomboy (In a sense. She does wear clothes and a hairstyle that could be called "feminine", if you overlooked all the mud, but she chews tobacco (switches to just plain ol' smoking later) and shoots monsters in the face. Draw your own conclusion.)

  • Fascinating Eyebrow (Often.)

  • Facepalm (Likewise.)

  • Brief Accent Imitation (She briefly puts on a Southern belle accent to mock a sideplot character behind her back. "Oh, ah dew declayuhr, all these 'gators...I b'lieve I'm gettin' a case of the vapors, where's my faintin' couch, oh Sainty Pete, I'mma cummin' home! Open up dat gayt!")

  • Power Trio (The ego)

Gunman Diggsby

  • Two Chapter Wonder (He plays a role in a small sideplot, but during it, he proves to be quite awesome.)

  • Mountain Man (By appearance. By trade, he's a trapper of various locales. "Sometimes I hunt ze bears in ze mountains, sometimes it is ze alligators in ze swamp. Depends on ze season, see?")

  • Leeroy Jenkins (Gets him killed.)

  • Tear Jerker (His last words [to Maria]. Even if they're not this to the audience, they're certainly this to that poor girl. "Lisa...ma belle Lisa...ça fait mal...  *" This after telling him he had a daughter by that name, that Maria reminded him of her so much, and that he hoped she'd grow up to be as beautiful as she is. Yeah.)

  • Badass Boast (In keeping with riverman boasting traditions.)

  • BFG (He has one, mounted on his boat. He kicks much ass with it shortly after his boasting is over.)

  • Wild Hair (With beard to match. Somebody at one point comments that they suspect he puts the leaves and twigs in there on purpose. "Why?" "So the birds have something to built a nest out of, that's why.")

Oh man, I've gotta get in on some of this action. I think I'll post a few characters here as time goes on.

Here's one that I've been working with recently:

Raiz Lagarta A 13-year old esper and a member of the Swallowtails gang, living in precarious harmony with the other psychic children of Kulitta Island. Once content to living in peace with his companions, the increased activity of the Para-psychological Maintenance Force (PMF)in Kulitta has forced the esper gangs to spring into action. But what should have been a simple fight soon turns into something much worse…

More to come, once I get them done. Man, I should have done this a long time ago...

Matthew

  • Blessed with Suck: Literally, he has an unstable Spell Core that absorbs energy from hostiles if he becomes too emotionally distressed. Dad made that happen.
  • Cool Sword: gets one eventually.
  • Expy: His morality is a lot like Shirou Emiya's, enough to make certain people term a draft of the story that was rushed to completion a Fate rip off. A large part of the story is Matthew developing his own personality. In fact, the recurring story theme is that you cannot let preconceived notions affect you.
  • Guile Hero: in secret. He thinks Dumb Is Good because he absorbed that personality trait from people in shows he has watched, since it tended to make them well liked.
  • The Hero: Is the Protagonist of the Earth Area.
  • High Octane Nightmare Fuel: His backstory is utterly horrific when revealed.
  • The Messiah: one of his original-to-himself traits. He accepts Shuuji as a friend following the Heel–Face Turn in chapter 2.
  • The Pollyana: is utterly miserable inside, due to a lack of friends. Does he show it? No.
  • Story-Breaker Power: he can regenerate from any wound, because he has a lot of Lance Of Longinus pieces embedded in his bones by his father, at the exact same time he got his Spell Core.
  • Tyke Bomb: Unknown to himself, he was raised as one of these by his own father for the sake of killing Melath the Demon King and Dragon Lord Ruvelad.

Shuuji Muzoku

  • The Atoner: psych! I bet you thought I was gonna make another boring Complete Monster.
  • BFG: what the spear can turn into, complete with Calling his Attack "Dragon Impact". Lampshaded by Medraut.
—> Medraut: please tell me I don't have to fight you again...
  • BFS: Big F*cking...what is that weapon? Spear I guess...
  • Expy: averted. You thought he'd be Shinji Matou, didn't you?
  • Flash Step: learns how to do this to take advantage of his spear-gauntlet-rocket-gun thing.
  • Ho Yay: He had a Heel–Face Turn because he disliked how Medraut was tormenting Matthew, who he had wanted to kill earlier, but now...well, yeah.
  • Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me
  • Narm: a trope I invoked with him. He thought that was how a gangster son should talk.
  • The Smart Guy: Is now planning for Matthew and company.

Sorata

  • Badass: My dad says Sorata is quite the badass...and admitted to having some PSL for her.
  • Becoming the Mask: she was supposed to kill Matthew with her secret weapon if he became evil. She developed feelings for him.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Kyrio Streika summoned her, and made her do really, really bad things for a good cause. She cannot begin to forgive herself, but covers it all with a smile.
  • Deadpan Snarker
  • Fountain of Expies: Sorata's character design was used by me countless previous times, looking back.
  • Hollywood Cyborg: her gauntlets and grieves have been built into her.
  • Unstoppable Rage: do not hurt Matthew as badly as Medraut did. Otherwise...

Queen Anathema

The Seer NOTE: do not read the spoilers unless you want a clue on the true story behind the story...

The Heavenly Blades

Adrian the Black Blade

  • BFS: broke against Matthew, and then got remade for the second chapter.
  • Evil Is Sexy: Yaoi Fangirls will have the time of their lives reading interactions between him and Medraut.
  • Manipulative Bastard: he knows people who want power and lure them into the clutches of Queen Anathema.
  • Smug Snake: not as competent as he thinks he is.
  • The Brute: not very intelligent either, well, compared to the other villains.
  • Yaoi Guys: with Medraut, a much younger boy.

Medraut the Red Blade

Zaine Calston "the Gold Blade"

Kyle the Green Blade

Nero the Blue Blade

  • Complete Monster: a demented sadist created by sheer accident. Used to be a Nice Guy before being mind wiped and told he had to do anything within the realm of possibility to retrieve those Artifacts. That turned out rather poorly.
  • Dirty Coward: despite being very powerful, he runs away as soon as things go poorly.
  • Evil Is Sexy: yes, he is a red haired Bishonen, but do not go out with him. They'll be finding pieces of you in the morning.
  • An Ice Person: One part of his water based powers. Has a very squicky power incorporated in, the ability to freeze all of a person's blood with a touch.
  • High Octane Nightmare Fuel: he is facially deformed and has some interesting expressions. Also, see the rest of this list. He has made a habit of hurting people just for the sake of hurting them. All because he can.
  • Torture Technician: he enjoys freezing parts of a person's body then rapidly thawing it before lasting damage is done. It hurts like hell, according to some people.
  • Names to Run Away from Really Fast: His full name? Nero Velial
  • Kick the Dog: He kicks dogs for laughs.
  • Moral Event Horizon: DON'T ASK WHAT HE DOES TO THE PEOPLE HE SLEEPS WITH.
  • Making a Splash: His power. He uses this to keep his good looks, but without it he gains a Nightmare Face.
  • Depraved Bisexual: has some nasty reactions to Matthew. Including grabbing his crotch when Matthew tries to slash him. Matthew is noticeably freaked out.
  • Freak Out: when he remembers his past...it goes right on into something worse.

Vice the White Blade

  • Disability Superpower: him being cut in half horizonally by Zaine did nothing to decrease his telepathic / telekinetic powers. In fact, they became stronger.
  • Half the Man He Used to Be: now a lot less sane due to what Zaine did to him.
  • Hollywood Cyborg: half of him, the other half is weird, half decayed and mutated Body Horror.
  • Dimension Lord: his palace in Dark World, where he controls everything. Zaine is the only one who can enter it reasonably safely. Otherwise, he takes delight in picking apart a person's psyche piece by piece.
  • Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: Remembered his past as an abuse victim after being cut in half by Zaine, Mazota revived him as a Man Behind the Man, has him under More than Mind Control and the good doctor controls everything this dimension lord does.
  • To the Pain: "Let me describe the many ways I am going to hurt you for intruding on my privacy..."

[up]Thanks!

I'm sorry but I can't really tell what story you are writing from reading your characters' tropes alone. Maybe you can give me the link to your story? Btw, my story is currently on the draft level, but thanks anyway.grin

[up]My story is in the Writer's Block thread New Dawn Hollow Dusk. My story is in the draft stage too. It has some inspiration from Fate Stay Night. One draft had too much influence, and now I am using a better draft and which has a lot of unique, mind screwy ideas flowing around.

Yuichi Jule: Yuichi's only goal in life was to find a place he and his kid sister Sasha could live in peace, instead of the streets he's spent the past few years raising her in. The problem is that Sasha's father is part of a race of secretive psychics, and her existence ends up making her a potential commodity. about half of Yuichi's story is the lengths he'll go to in order to protect her.

The main character of the story I'm working on, Predestiny, Yuichi is designed as something of an anti-Shonen Hero. What idealism he has is buried under mountains of cynicism. He'll fight as "Pragmatically" as he can, and even manipulate others' honor to that end. Like many such heroes he won't kill his enemies, but only because he's a firm believer in Cruel Mercy.

  • Abusive Parents — His father mostly, a Drill Sergeant Nasty who couldn't quite grasp that what worked for privates didn't work so well with children. His mother just didn't stand up to it.
  • Berserk Button — Threatening Sasha. Behavior that stinks of Honor Before Reason
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome — while it may look out of place compared to some of the other descriptions of him here, the fact is, Yuichi can not leave well enough alone if someone, especially a child, is endangered. It's not due to any good samaritanism on his part, though. Noted above is that his mother never prevented abuse he went through, and he views doing the same himself as no better.
  • Clap Your Hands If You Believe — Mentioned primarily as it's a core element to Imagery, this verse's magic. Yuichi believes his phantom limb should hit harder than a normal one, so it does. Believes using it in mundane situations would cheapen and weaken it, so it likely would.
  • The Combat Pragmatist — A frequent user of I Shall Taunt You and views Groin Attacks to be the best offense in any situation as it hits men For Massive Damage and women never see it coming.
  • Cruel Mercy — Yuichi's preferred method of finishing enemies, given that, to his mind, people would choose Death Before Dishonor, he does his damnedest to make sure they suffer dishonor.
  • Disability Superpower — Lost his right hand when caught thieving. Once introduced to his 'verse's magic, Imagery, he develops a solid phantom limb in its place.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation — He's a cynic to the point he cannot ascribe a selfless motivation to anything. Up to and including his own actions. Even actions towards the end which would potentially be saving the world is selfish to him because he simply "wants the dying to stop."
  • Immune to Fate — The seer race of the Selda can the future via the general populace's belief in fate. Even people who vehemently deny fate and want to Screw Destiny are readable as they must acknowledge fate in order to deny it. Yuichi, however, doesn't care about fate or Destiny and, as a result of that apathy, he's a blind spot where no Selda can accurately read the outcome of any events he has direct involvement in.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold — His sister and his Nakama are about the only people he'll be nice to on any consistent basis.
  • Knight Templar Big Brother — And how
  • Moral Event Horizon — Yuichi's solution for dealing with an over-insistent Blood Knight who threatens Sasha to provoke him into a fight: Show up to the fight, forfeit before the first blow is struck, while said Blood Knight is trying to process what happened, mercilessly attack and maim/cripple him by (at very least) breaking an arm and a leg, then leave him there to rot after taunting him with the fact that, as he is now, people he's defeated in the past (or their next of kin) will be able to hunt him down and possibly kill him without a fight.
  • Power Fist — His right hand is a Disability Superpower phantom limb. On his left he wears a bracelet that he slips onto his hand for use as an impromptu brass knuckle.
  • Refuge in AudacityThrives on it. My first planned action for him is to be able to legitimately deny having stolen from people living in a building (by virtue of the fact he's been stealing from the thief) and then hiding the loot in the room of the person who's been on his case about it most.

Casey Giselle: Designed in part as a foil to Yuichi, Casey grew up listening to epic tales of heroism and wishing with all her heart to be remembered in stories like that herself. Her family tried to convince her to Stay in the Kitchen, but when she inadvertently created an Imagery that gave her a "magic weapon" to use, there was pretty much no stopping her. She and her mentor, Tobias, join with Yuichi, partly to keep an eye on his own developing powers. Despite their differences, Casey and Yuichi actually form a strong friendship and mutual respect (Yuichi respects the fact that she actually had the guts to just up and try and become a Hero, even if he thinks the whole idea is silly).

  • Flynning — Initially a result of a lack of classical training & her theatrical nature. Later adapted into a part of her fighting style, trying to make it harder to determine which weapon she'll pull out next.
  • Heroic Wannabe — Her prime motivation.
  • Jumped at the Call — Hunted it down, even.
  • Large Ham — A running gag in mind even has her hijacking the narration and turning it into epic literature until someone says "Casey stop that."
  • Morph Weapon — Her imagery allows her to conjure any weapon she's sufficiently familiar with. Her father is a blacksmith.
  • Multi-Melee Master — In line with her powers.
  • The Storyteller — A good memory for stories and a flair for the dramatic make her a natural at this.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds — She and Yuichi respect one another, but also frequently get on one anothers' nerves with their conflicting personalities.
  • Wide-Eyed Idealist — Has more real-world experience tempering her than most, but she's still generally the most idealistic of her group (not counting seven-year old Sasha).

Forgotten Lore main cast:

Zaran il Legio Ered'nash

  • Big Eater: Demons have numerous physical advantages over humans, but the downside is that their bodies need a lot more energy. Hence Zaran has to eat more than humans do.
  • Bizarre Alien Biology: Or demon biology, whatever. Zaran has numerous traits that are a bit odd, including being able to see in ultraviolet, dislocate her jaws like a snake, and sense the Background Magic Field.
  • Chaotic Neutral: She's rather impulsive, likely to say or do whatever comes to her mind. She might be verging on chaotic good, atleast as far as her philosophy goes (people should live and peace and be able to do whatever they want, as long as it doesn't damage anybody else).
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: She seems pretty harmless and doesn't like fighting, but she has been trained in armed and unarmed combat and will use those skills to a devastatin effect if necessary.
  • Everythings Better With Princesses: Her official title is "romankhis'asa", which loosely translated means demon princess (the direct translation is along the lines of "overlord's daughter").
  • Fish out of Water: She learns how the human world works as tiem goes on, however.
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: All demons have glowing pupilless eyes.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Demons tend to be stronger than humans, so she's physically the strongest of the main cast. In pure physical strenght she isn't much stronger than the average human, but she can punch very fast and with a lot of force, wheres a human doing the same would probably sprain their muscles.
  • More Teeth than the Osmond Family: She has a lot of sharp triangular teeth.
  • Our Demons Are Different: They look pretty much like traditional ones, but aren't really supernatural (they're normal livign beings, but from a different plane of existance) and are not Always Chaotic Evil.
  • Spoiled Sweet: Despite her position she's actually quite nice, altho she does treat people as somewhat inferior, atleast at first.
  • Uncanny Valley: She looks quite unsettling, atleas to those humans who don't have their Weirdness Censor on, since she is mostly human-looking with some very non-human details (white skin, glowing eyes and way too many teeth).
  • Vaque Age: She's between 20 and 100 years old. I've never bothered to get any more specific than that. In humans terms she's equivalent to a teenager.

Howard Waite

  • Badass Longcoat: He quite often wears a trenchcoat. After all, wizards need robes and trenchcoat is pretty much the moders (and cooler) version of robes (not to mention it's easier to enchant the trenchcoat than every single pair of shirs and pants).
  • Deadpan Snarker
  • Limited Wardrobe: The band he plays in once ordered way too many T-shirs with their log (they severely overestimade the amount of fans they had), so he now owns dozens of identical t-shirts.
  • Occult Geek: He's very interested in supernatural, even before he knew stuff like magic really existed.
  • Squishy Wizard: Averted. While not exactly buff, he's reasonably fit, and does at one point defeat a far more powerful spellcaster (who is a stereotypical frail old wizard) by creating an antimagic zone around them and punching him in the face.
  • The Mezzer: He doesn't know many spells that can directly harm his enemies, but has many that can incapacitate them in some way (blinding them, preventing them from casting spells, or making the groun under them extremely slippery).
  • Magical Music: Because he has a lot of experience in playing music, he likes to envision magical incantations as notes. Instead of speaking the incantations to channel spells, he plays them on his guitar.
  • True Neutral

Phil Derby

  • Abnormal Ammo: Cold (magnetic) iron pellets with tiny runes carved on them, making them very effective at harming supernatural beings.
  • Awesome, but Impractical: He builds a portable railgun using instructions found on the internet. That is pretty awesome, but it's barely more powerful than an airshoft rifle and only has enough power for a few shots. He later makes it a bit better by upgrading the ammunition.
  • Badass Normal: Badass might not be the right word, but unlike the other protagonists, he has no unusual powers at all, but still fights againt supernatural threats.
  • Geek: He's a pretty typical geek. Wears glasses, watches science fiction, likes futuristic but impractical weapons and equipment.
  • Lawful Good: He places more emphasis on following the law than the other protagonists, and tries to act as the voice of reason. He also strongly believes that being aware of the supernatural threats the city faces gives the protagonists the responsibility to stop them, because if not them, then who?

Professor John Armitage

  • Awesome by Analysis: He has learned the abilities and weaknesses of most supernatural beings and how to use them againt them.
  • Badass Grandpa: He's retired from monster hunting, but on a few very dire situations, comes out of his retirement to help the protagonists directly, proving in the process that despite being over 70 years old, he's still pretty badass.
  • The Mentor: He uses the expertice on the supernatural to help the protagonists.
  • Retired Badass: He used to fight againt supernatural beings, but eventually got too old for it and retired. Nowadays he acts as the curator of the university's library of esoteric books (and guards those books from getting into wrong hands).

Herald of the Outer Gods

  • Affably Evil: He tries to appear this way, but in truth his less affable and more insane.
  • Big Bad
  • Chaotic Evil: Chaotic Jerkass migth be more accurate, as one could arque that for a being of his power, messing with humanity isn't any more evil than it is for a human to burn ants with a magnifying glass.
  • Eldritch Abomination: He's the living embodiment of the will of even more eldritch and abominable Abominations, to be precise.
  • Expy: Of Nyarlathotep. Infact, he's not so much an expy as Nyarlathotep himself, just never referred with that particular name.
  • For the Evulz: Most of what he does is purely for his own amusement. This works to the protagonists favour sometimes, as he's more concerned with doing things in a way that amuses him instead of in a practical way. Othervise he's probably had succeed in destroying the world already (infact, he doesn't really want to destroy the world, as toying ith mortals is much more amusing).
  • Healing Factor: His body is compromised of an amorphous black substance that can reshape according to his will. If a part of it is cut off, he can regenrate it nearly instantly.
  • Humanoid Abomination: The form he usually takes is mostly humanoid.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: He wants to release an Eldritch Abomination that would destroy all life on Earth.
  • Physical God: He is a physical form of a godlike being, with powers to match.
  • Projected Avatar: His physical form is just an avatar of his true form, which exists outside the bounds of the known universe and isn't really physical in the sense we understand it.
  • Sinister Mask: His humanoid form wears a featureless golden mask that covers the top hald of his head.
  • Time Abyss: He is very, very old. The Outer Gods have been around since before the multiverse existed, and the Herald has been around as long as they have. It's no wonder he's not exactly sane, as spending hundreds of billions of years doing a job you really hate is not exactly good for your mental wellbeing.
  • Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: While he isn't really supposed to be a sympathic character, the reason for his behaviour is that his life really kind of sucks. He is the living embodiment of the will of the Outer Gods, and the entire purpose of his existance is to carry out their wishes for all eternity. He really hates his job and has nothing but contempt for his masters, and takes out his frustration on those weaker than him as it lets him feel like he's in charge for once. If he could, he'd destroy himself to be free of his eternal servitude.
