Go To

Welcome to the Trope Pantheons thread! Please read the rules:

    Rules
Rules. The following are not suggestions or tips, but things that have to be followed:
  • When writing a profile, take note of the following:
    • Gods cannot be followers or high priests for obvious reasons. The 'gods' have ascended meaning there is no need for said character to be a follower of another if they have ascended.
    • No hype profiles, please. 'Hype Profiles' are profiles that have been made out of ongoing events and have not been around for a long time. This creates 'hype' due to popularity and certain elements either through certain scenes, memes, dramatic acting or considered overly awesome. They are not bad tropes but building a portfolio solely for that is a bad idea, as they do not say a thing about representing the trope best (unless it's those trope concepts that they are trying to embody for a long time)
      • You can see one if the profile is only showing off how awesome they are or suddenly pushing how 'significant' they are thanks to the just very recent events rather than respecting the longstanding good representations of the trope. And usually having... minimum portfolio or flavor texts and being a bit too generalized or self-contained to events from within their home series instead of interacting with other Pantheon members.
  • When posting in the forum, take note of the following:
    • When you suggest a God, please explain why they fit the trope. Not everyone is going to understand just "X should be the God of Y because they exemplify the trope" off the bat, especially if they're unfamiliar with the work.
    • You must use the Trope Pantheons discussion thread in the forums if you wish to add a new deity, story, something else of importance to the Trope Pantheon canon, or reworking an existing deity (be it simply improving their existing profile or changing their title).
      • For new and reworked deities, 3 [tup] means the profile will have a one week waiting period.
      • For new and reworked deities, 4 [tup] is a 3 day waiting period.
      • 5 [tup] is an automatic ascension for new and reworked deities.
      • Speaking of reworks, for anyone that wants to improve such profiles, they have to review the current trope the character(s) has and see if it still holds up or if there is a better rep for their trope.
    • For adding new Treasures to The Great Treasury or new Dominions to the Dominions, the following rules apply:
      • For new Treasures or Dominions, 3 [tup] is a 3 day waiting period.
      • 4 [tup] is an automatic addition to the Great Treasury or Dominions.
    • Do not repost a profile in the forums more than twice in a day if noticeable changes have not been made in between. If a profile is posted a third time in a row without noticeable alterations, it will be downvoted. This is so spamming of no-effort profiles is less frequent and to prevent tropers from getting aggravated seeing the same profile over and over. The minimum acceptable change has to be a single flavour text.
    • The Pantheon is not a mouthpiece for you to voice your opinions on certain characters. You may like certain characters more than others, but do not make the mistake of making profiles for characters you like look like Character Shilling.
    • Tropers new to the Pantheon are barred from approving or downvoting profiles until they have ascended at least two profiles.
    • Do not include fan reception in any profiles. It has nothing to do with the character themselves and will create unnecessary conflict.
    • Write a detailed explanation on why the character is the best candidate for deity of that trope. If people disagree with you, do not force it on the people.
    • Keep in mind that if you still want to try to find a trope for a particular character, you are only given three chances to find a particular trope for them. If a suggestion goes past three possible tropes, then it will come off as shoehorning a character into the Pantheon just for the sake of that character to be there.
      • On a related note, even if a character does have a free trope being suggested, there is still a limit of three attempts for suggesting that character for that trope. If no one responds to that certain proposal after being posted three times, then it will get to the point where the idea will be seen as being shoehorned into the Pantheon. In addition, the idea needs to be considered acceptable and approved because they are good, not for the sake of pitying others because no one is responding to their idea.
  • When posting Pantheon related stuff to the wiki, take note of the following:
    • Do not put a link to these Pantheon pages into the main wiki page. The moment you want to add in a main Characters page that the character is a God of this trope, do not do it. If you see leftovers of this practice, inform the forum and use the cutlist. This also goes to the Trivia page. The only exception to this rule is if a page in the Pantheon could be confused for a page in Main, like Good Colors, Evil Colors and Good and Evil Colors.
    • Rule of Cautious Editing Judgment ALSO applies here. Do not bring things that would incite fights, even if it is what is currently the hot topic and might be 'urgent'. For example, the political scene and some really bad politicians. We are not here to fight at each other, so don't suggest things that go to that direction, this is a fictional Pantheon after all.
    • To add a Pantheon page for a certain work, 4 or more characters coming from the same series/franchise should be ascended before adding the page. For Creator specific pages, 4 deities coming from the same creator and 2 individual work pages coming from the same creator is the minimum to warrant a page.
    • Do not create a trope page for a story until the story is fully completed.

    Instructions and Tips
Here are some tips one should keep in mind when editing:

  • Preparing to write:
    • First thing to do before present a profile is to go to the Trope Pantheons discussion thread. In the forums, you must discuss with other users on adding ideas and seek their approval with sound reasoning. You can also get some assistance in the forum thread by either asking for help and those interested asking if they can help. Submissions that are added without discussion are likely to be deleted and those who violate those rules by adding Pantheon content without discussion will get reported to the mods.
    • If you feel the need to remove a character for some reason (poor quality, outdated titles, etcetera) and replace him/her with another or outright rework, please see what the other tropers think about this in the discussion thread before doing anything hasty. Use good reasoning to see if your idea can easily replace the character present without drawing out your statement or giving too ambiguous claims most do not understand.
    • Please be sure to consult others in the discussion about what you want to work before making the profile. This is done to see if your proposal is the best representative and so, in case your profile is turned down, you do not waste time writing something that others might not find suitable.
      • In the same vein, if you adopt a profile from another troper, it is recommended that you make an announcement that you have done so on the discussion thread. More often than not, a trope that was reserved for something was given away to someone else. Check the Related tab on the top of a page to see if a trope or character has been reserved by a user.
    • If, for whatever reason, you are writing about a God who just happens to be a person in real life, just try to be very careful about what you decide to say. Do not try to make the editing seem too meta (self-referential) and use the aformentioned creativity to create hypothetical scenarios towards fictional characters.
  • When writing a profile for a character, here are a few things to note:
    • All deities should be sorted by their divine ranking. Put Overdeities on the top of the page and Quasideities on the bottom. Also be sure to add them in alphabetical order by their first/given name (can be reversed if it is Eastern ordered). For a group, if there is no official name for them all list down all their names by order of relevance or (if too long to list) title them as Insert Name Here Main Characters or some other identifiable title along the same lines.
    • The maximum number of tropes that a god can have is two, but do not try to abuse that fact. If you need to use a second trope to specify a certain thing about their position, that can be excused either because said character represents their trope choice very well alongside the first trope. It is still generally encouraged to only have one trope.
    • A trope can only belong to one profile at a time. The only time two profiles can share a trope is if there are explicit variations listed in the trope page proper (e.g. Muscle Angst is held by both Biscuit Krueger and Chihiro Fujisaki as the former represents "Too Much Muscle" and the latter represents "Not Enough Muscle")
    • If the character you are about to add to a House already exists in another, make sure to mention that this person has spots in other House as well. Up to 2 places can be made for a deity, with the sole exceptions being those at the Main House to highlight those characters’ importance to the Pantheon’s lore.
    • For a character's theme song, try to avoid calling it "Theme of God X" or "Theme of (Show where God X originates from)". If possible, try to find out if the song has an actual name through research. Most importantly, it has to be part their series’ official soundtracks from media. Do not list songs that are made by fans or outside sources. If they were not specifically used as music for that specific character, then they do not count. Furthermore, it has to be a general theme specifically made for that characters’ appearances, not some generic music that plays for many other instances not related to the character in question.
    • For images, when adding an image for your chosen character, it is highly recommended to use a stylized image that embodies the character or renders that also highlights a character’s behavior (such as cool poses). Most images should be from the main adaptations of the character, unless the images from the other media are of a higher quality than the adaptation. Unless it is needed, do not use fanart for images. If you are, please attribute to the original artist. Due to the website’s dark mode, removing white backgrounds from an image is paramount. This website is suggested to do the background removal. If an image you have takes up too much bytes, it is suggestible to use this site to reduce the byte size. If the byte is still too big, put the compressed image to other sites (or even the same one) to compress even further. Use wikias to look for better images, as even wikias for the series might not contain good official images.
    • Creativity is your friend. While it is not recommended to get too ditzy at your ideas, it is best that when writing a profile for a certain character, do you think of capable scenarios between X and Y. Tip: do not use shallow examples (X wields a sword and Y wields one too) and try to think of relationships that makes sense (i.e those characters that are shout-outs for another).
  • Pantheon Content:
    • Some series or genres will eventually have greater representation in the Pantheon than others. This is unavoidable, but a little diversity helps to make you not look like a shill per say. Try to ensure that if you add a deity from a popular series, make sure that it is because they are a good representative for the trope in question, and not just because they are connected to another deity in their respective canon.
      • As far as deities from actual mythologies, there is generally expectation to build the profiles off interactions from fictional portrays rather than basing it entire from the actual myth. Therefore, a mythological deity should be more of a Composite Character whose main identity is from the actual myth.
    • Occasionally there will be Gods that carry a title without a trope. This is not forbidden, but it is well advised not to abuse them. The only house that a tropeless profile are wholly allowed is the House of Food. Mainly due to most food items lacking tropes, and adding tropes about said foodstuffs is slightly unnecessary. However, the character being ascended for their choice of a food, or food-related thing must be a decently good representative of said item. (i.e their Trademark Favorite Food, or something that they are closely associated with In-Universe, or both).
    • For Dominions and Treasures profiles, always consider what made those places/objects popular in the first place. Were they plot-important, identifiable imagery or have a unique aspect of it? Do not just bring regular objects under the basis of following a certain canon.
  • For Profile Standards:
    • Flavor text is used to describe certain things about a character, place or object. To avoid short ones, it is recommended to write flavor text with 4-7 sentences that can fill around 2 lines each. Be warned that adding too many sentences does not equal good flavor text as it is not an essay of sorts (unless words are substantial and do add to the overall line).
    • Character Profiles of a certain person should have the following:
      • A portfolio that contains at least 7 (at the minimum) tropes describing their character.
      • Flavor text count for a deity profile should have by minimum, 10 (depending if the character in question has enough relationships/characterization) to 15 with a maximum of 20-25 for an individual profile.
      • On the other hand, group profiles (profiles of a group that has 4 or more members) have their maximum flavor text count to 15 minimum, giving individual lines for the other members of the group (unless the members are not as characterized) up to 30 at max.
    • Dominion profiles of a certain place should have the following:
      • A portfolio that contains at least 5 (at the minimum) tropes describing the context of the place.
      • Flavor text count should range at least 10 to 15.
    • Treasure profiles (inanimate objects without a trope) should have the following:
      • A portfolio that contains at least 6 (at the minimum) tropes that describes the object itself.
      • Flavor text count should be at least 7 flavor text up to 12 to constitute a treasure profile.

    Divine Ranking System
  • Overdeity: Omnipotent-level Reality Warpers capable of manipulating the entire universe (or at least the world) at will. Within their own universe they are believed to be omnipotent, or at least impossible-to-completely-destroy embodiments or concepts.
  • Greater Gods: High-level Reality Warpers and that are extremely powerful (capable of destroying or changing anywhere from a large city to a planet at will) and very strong non-reality warpers capable of doing the same thing.
  • Intermediate Gods: Deities at this level are capable of strong but specialized powers such as hydrokinesis, pyrokinesis, etc. without major drawbacks and low level Reality Warpers capable of affecting their immediate area at will.
  • Lesser Gods: Capable of highly specific or little power on their own, or suffer from Power at a Price. However, they may be able to ruthlessly exploit their power or combine it with just being badass enough to make up for it.
  • Demigods: Basically the Badass Normals of the pantheon, making up for their lack of abilities with strength, strategy, and/or planning.
  • Quasideities: Any otherwise normal human, human equivalent, or below without any special powers or training will fall here.

    Templates
Template for adding a new deity:

God X, God/dess of (Insert Trope Here) (Alternate names/Nicknames, Fan Nickname)

  • An image, if possible. Please use official art or a screenshot for a picture.
  • Rank: This can range from Quasideity, Demigod, Lesser God, Intermediate God, Greater God, to Overdeity, based on representation of power mentioned above.
  • Symbol: An image or icon used to represent the deity.
  • Theme Song: Official song (in other words, no fan music, regardless of quality) that usually is used in affiliation with the character. If the deity is a musician this will most likely be their Signature Song. If possible, give a link for reference, preferably on either a website like Soundcloud or YouTube.
  • Alignment: Good, evil, neutral etc. Forget about The Great Character Alignment Debate here, the Pantheon is one of the few places where you can assign Dungeons & Dragons alignment to characters that don't have alignment system. After all, the Pantheon is based on D&D and is made for fun.
  • For Pokémon deities only:
    • Gender: Defines the gender of the Pokémon; if genderless, it instead defines what gender they identify as.
    • Ability: Provides the Pokémon's ability. If they can Mega Evolve, the new ability is listed as well.
    • Moves: Defines the four moves used by a Pokémon. A Z-Move may also be listed.
  • Portfolio: Tropes associated with the character.
  • Domains: Things that the character has influence over.
  • Herald: Non-ascended loyal character that is from the same series as the ascended character.
  • High Priest: Non-ascended like heralds, but not from the same series, and can serve as a worthy replacement in case something would happen. They can be served as part-time workers in case the originals are busy with some jobs. Co-Godhood is accepted depending on the approval of the originals, usually if the co-deity is from the same series.
  • Followers: Non-ascended characters that are not part of the Pantheon, but would probably worship this character by the fact that they share the ascended character's trope.
  • Relationships between ascended characters go here with your chosen character, it goes something like this:
    • Allies: Members of the Pantheon that are allies, those that share the same values as them and would theoretically be friends with them.
    • Rivals: Members of the Pantheon that are rivals, people who may look at your character with suspicion or a challenge.
    • Enemies: Members of the Pantheon that are foes, those who would see your chosen character as a threat, either on their pespective or yours.
    • Additional Character Relationships: Members of the Pantheon that do not fit in various relationships (examples include Enemy Mine, Vitriolic Best Buds, Teeth-Clenched Teamwork, Headbutting Heroes, Friendly Enemy, Friendly Rival, Just Friends, etc.), allies, rivals, or enemies.
    • Partner: Defines a partnership with an ascended deity and Mon-type. (if any)
    • Feared by/Fears: A deity whom the members of the Pantheon notably fear or are feared by.
    • Respected by/Respects: A deity whom the members of the Pantheon respect or are respected by.
    • Opposed by/Opposes: Not necessarily the same as "Enemies", but this is used for any deity whom the members of the Pantheon directly opposes or is opposed by (basically the opposite of "Respects") terms of certain viewpoints, regardless of alignment.
    • Pitied by/Pities: A deity whom the members of the Pantheon feel pity for or are found pitiable by.
    • Conflicting Opinion: Sometimes, the Deities argue over specific themes and philosophies.
  • Add the Intro. The intro is made up of two trivia, the Ascension Text (or just the Ascension) and The Bio. Both are necessary, but which order you use for them may vary depending on the profile in question. It may be better for one profile to have The Bio first and the Ascension second or vice-versa, although for the most part the order is irrelevant:
    • The Ascension Text: This the story of how the character got into the Pantheon and/or was ascended. There are many ways for this to happen. They may be tricked into it or have simply wandered into the Pantheon, they may have had an already ascended character bring them in, they may already be in the Pantheon (via being another deity's Herald or sharing a trope) and got "promoted", or some combination of the above. Anything is possible in the Pantheon, so use your imagination, but try to incorporate their trope into the story, if possible.
    • The Bio: A brief synopsis on the character's backstory. No need for the character's entire life/production history, but just give enough that those who don't know the character can get an idea of how the character works.
  • Now add some random trivia/facts about events/alignments/moments/fights/friendships/relations etc.
  • And some more trivia/facts.
  • And a couple of more.
    • Note: Standard amount of flavor text for Deities/Characters is 10-15 (15-20 for group profiles) at minimum to 20-25 (30 for group profiles) at maximum.

Template for Dominions profiles:

Place X, Place of (Insert Trope Here) (Alternate names/Nicknames, Fan Nickname)

  • An image, if possible. Please use official art or a screenshot for a picture.
  • Theme Song (Optional): Not important as compared to Deity and Dominion profiles but a notable mention if there is an accompanying song in use with the object.
  • Alignment: Refers to the dominion's role in their story, be it those used by villains or used by the Player Character.
  • Portfolio: Tropes associated with the dominion.
  • Domains: Things that the place has links to.
  • Relationships (Optional): Unless the location has a connection with a specific deity, relationships are optional and may not be required. However, if there are deities linked to the same series as where the dominion is linked to, note them using the relationships, this includes deities that theoretically have interest with said dominion, good or evil otherwise.
  • Add the Intro. Here the introduction of the Dominion is added with some tidbits regarding the origins of its' creation and usage in the story. You can also add what made it popular/iconic/important here.
  • Now add some random trivia/facts about events/alignments/moments/fights/friendships/relations etc.
  • And some more trivia/facts.
  • And a couple of more.
    • Note: Standard amount of flavor text for Dominions is 10 at minimum to 15 at maximum.

Template for Treasure profiles:

The name of the item in here (Alternate names/Nicknames, Fan Nickname)

  • An image, if possible. Please use official art or a screenshot for a picture.
  • Appearance: A shortened description of the item's looks with some notable features also mentioned.
  • Class: Refer to the Treasure Classification System in the Great Treasury.
  • Alignment: Refers to the objects' role in their story, be it those used by villains or used by the Player Character.
  • Theme Song (Optional): Not important as compared to Deity and Dominion profiles but a notable mention if there is an accompanying song in use with the object.
  • Museum Check: A note that says whether the item is viewable by the public.
  • Portfolio: Tropes associated with the item.
  • Domains: Things that the item has links to.
  • Relationships (Optional): Unless the item has a connection with a specific deity, relationships are optional and may not be required. However, if there are deities linked to the same series as where the item is linked to (especially the original owner of the item), note them using the relationships, this includes deities that theoretically have interest with said object, good or evil otherwise.
  • Add the Intro. Here the introduction of the Treasure is added with some tidbits regarding the origins of its' creation and usage in the story. You can also add what made it popular/iconic/important here.
  • Now add some random trivia/facts about events/alignments/moments/fights/friendships/relations etc.
  • And some more trivia/facts.
  • And a couple of more.
    • Note: Standard amount of flavor text for Treasures is 7 at minimum to 12 at maximum.

First rough quick draft for Manji.

He's a samurai who is cursed with immortality and seeks to have it removed via killing 1000 evil men (and also to atone for his previous actions of killing 100 samurai). He becomes a bodyguard for a girl named Rin Asano and helps her get revenge on the Itto-Ryu, a dojo made of skilled swordsmen that seek to increase their influence across Japan.

Looking for feedback on what to add for interactions.

Manji, God of Non Nazi Swastika (The Immortal)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/manji_anime.png
  • Lesser God
  • Symbol: The swastika on the back of his clothes
  • Theme Music: Live to Die Another Day
  • Alignment: True Neutral, at times Chaotic Good
  • Portfolio: Anti-Hero, Immortality Hurts, Multi-Melee Master, Failure Knight, Determinator, Scars Are Forever, Walking Armory
  • Domains: Swordsmen, Immortality
  • Allies:
  • Enemies:
  • In the past, Manji had a hand in causing the deaths of 100 samurai, one of them being his sister’s husband which would later lead to her death at the hands of other swordsmen. To atone for his past actions, Manji would vow to kill 1000 evil men, which would allow him to get rid of his immortality curse as well. More specifically, he’s infused with a bunch of bloodworms that fix up his wounds whenever he gets them (which happens a lot) and the only way he can actually die that doesn’t involve completing his mission is through decapitation or a rare poison. He then crosses paths with Rin Asano, a girl who resembles his long-deceased sister, and works with her in fighting off Itto-Ryu and their leader Anotsu Kagehisa, a dojo that wants to increase its influence across Japan and will kill anyone (Rin’s family included) that opposes them. The duo’s bloody journey not only involves the Itto-Ryu, but a whole assortment of morally dubious characters, some much darker than others in terms of actions.
  • After another arduous adventure, Manji was resting somewhere when he was visited by Yaobikuni once more, who gave him some sort of cryptic message claiming that many worlds, including the one where he’s in are connected to each other. While it was clear he wasn’t interested in seeing Yaobikuni once more, her words confused him for a bit before he heard some loud noises coming from afar. The noises were the result of a sadistic swordsman who only was someone who Manji had never seen before, but looked like someone who wasn’t from his world thanks to using a more advanced fighting style. Manji got in a fight with the criminal and as usual, Manji suffered plenty of injuries, but was able to recover from them and defeat the perpetrator. Manji then noticed how some of the swords his last fighter was using were imbued with unusual properties and that they were from a place known as “the Pantheon”, with Manji surmising that this Pantheon was what Yaobikuni was talking about in regards to connected worlds. In any case, Manji was given a glimpse of how different the wider Pantheon was compared to what he was used to and whether he wanted it or not, he’s now part of it.
  • One aspect of the Pantheon that Manji isn’t happy about is how those with designated titles (himself included) don’t stay dead even if they’re killed. Manji wasn’t able to get rid of that immortality curse even after helping Rin get her revenge and getting involved with the Pantheon basically ensured that even if Manji got inflicted with a certain poison or decapitated, then he’ll just come back to life after a period of time through circumstances not related to bloodworms. From his point of view, the Pantheon is simply an extension of his immortality curse and trying to get rid of it just got a lot harder for him. Even if there are others who are already immortal prior to finding the Pantheon like him, he’s ultimately someone who would rather die a comparatively “normal” death in a normal setting instead of having to live forever in a strange interconnected world.

Persona Purge, Part 5

Still in progress, but we're getting there.

Recap

  • The TV World is not coming back.
  • Purge the Pantheonic Personas of all non-canon Persona-users.
  • Remove the Metaverse in all capacities to avoid temptation to do a 2.0 of this mess. This includes it being Yaldabaoth's domain.
  • I'm not touching the Phantom Thieves profile in case of any rework that will include Violet, Sophie, and Wolf.

I'd like to ask for a TV World-esque location that is in the Pantheon (that is not the TV World, of course), at least in regards to being able to see visions that deconstruct a character or give dark warnings, like that cavern in Dagobah that Luke Skywalker went to.

Worry not, it's just for one interaction (namely to substitute Ryotaro Dojima's Shadow confrontation as his relationship with Tohru Adachi is put into question) and no more.

No, I don't think Cthulhu Mythos Nyarlathotep would work.

The entrance to Impel Down.
  • Votes: 3(Crimson Shark, Aleceone, Tropers/Excessive-Menace)
  • Date of ascension: 11 June(repost 8 June)
  • House: Establishments (House of Dominions)
  • Description: A multi-layered prison with 6 levels, the last undisclosed to the public
  • Symbol: A crowned emblem with wings on a black background
  • Theme Song: This
  • Alignment: Lawful Neutral
  • Portfolio: The Alcatraz, Stylized After The Circles Of Hell from The Divine Comedy, Hellhole Prison, From Bad to Worse, Doesn't Frivolously Kill Its Prisoners
  • Domains: Prison, Torment, Despair, Hellish Fates, The Justice System
  • Sacred to: Magellan (former warden, current vice-warden), The Five Elder Stars (heads of the government Impel Down serves)
  • Unholy to: Everyone who's ever been locked up there, (notably Monkey D Luffy, Portgas D Ace, Crocodile and Donquixote Doflamingo), Al Capone, Dante Aligheri, Boris the Animal
  • The World Government has to deal with powerful criminals, pirates and other threats to both people and their status quo. For this, Impel Down was created. A vicious, near-inescapable prison with each deeper level being worse. Head by Hannyabal, and before him Magellan, each can expect a different kind of torture. The first layer is the Crimson Hell, with razor-sharp tree leaves stained with prisoner's blood, guards and blue gorillas chasing them. The second layer is the Wild Beast Hell, where dangerous beasts hunt the prisoners. The third layer is Starvation Hell, a desert where prisoners are at the edge of dehydration and starvation. The fourth layer is Blazing Hell, with the presence of a boiling blood pool. The fifth layer is Freezing Hell, a desolate frozen wasteland. And not known to the public is Eternal Hell, where the prisoners are forgotten and left to die of boredom.
  • Dreaded by the House of Crime, and more so that they are requesting resources from the pantheon. The more dangerous and animalistic members of the Monster halls are permitted under the warden's keen eyes to cause trouble for the criminals there in the Wild Beast Hell. At least, as long as they can control them. The SCP Foundation was impressed enough to consider it a temporary containment for their their deadlier SCPs if they're unable to use primary containment.. "Could" being the key word, as the Foundation considers themselves better and handling and containing dangerous entities. It's more a secondary containment than a replacement altogether. Still, they work better working together.
  • Impel Down's establishment in the pantheon has put the fear of God back into Al Capone. He went to the Alcatraz and that it's why he went nutsnote  and he was appalled that Impel Down "is like Alcatraz, but a thousand times worse!" The World Government doesn't find him guilty of crimes that'd send him there, but they aren't telling him that as they want to keep him on his best behavior if they and his criminal enterprise cross paths.
  • If it seems like a literal Hellhole Prison, that's because it kind of is. Impel Down was stylized off the Circles of Hell from The Divine Comedy. Dante, having traversed through the Inferno, recognized the similarities and was morbidly impressed for a second. Dis was initially amused at this apparent recreation of his unholy domain, but then shifted to irrational rage at the feeling of being plagiarized. It's especially hellish for those who can't swim; having seastone in its construction and being in the middle of the ocean means it's especially useful for holding Devil Fruit users.
  • The House of Justice was impressed by Impel Down, however how often it should be used by the pantheon was up for debate. While most imprisoned there were hardened and dangerous criminals, some believed it was too sadistic even towards them. This concerned was fueled by the fact the Hall of Tyrannical Figures thinking it can be used as an excuse to get rid of and punishment any political dissident. Horrifyingly Big Brother has plans of converting the entire area into one colossal Room 101. Regime Superman is more content to let Impel Down be, but he is still interested in the prison as it reminds him of The Trench; a fully underwater max security prison in his own universe. As it's in the Marianas Trench it's even more secure than Impel Down.
  • For all its ruthlessness Impel Down doesn't permit frivolous cruelty; Shillew got put in Level 6 because he killed prisoners for fun. To prevent the tyrants of the pantheon from abusing the system, the threshhold for how evil someone has to be to go there is EXCEPTIONALLY high. That said, the World Government ultimately has the say on who goes there and needs to get their seal of approval before capitulating to their prisoners. They didn't have any problem in the request to throw Cletus Kasady into Level 6; he more than earned an 11 lifetime prison service.
  • An agreement was made with the Men in Black that they can store Boris the Animal away, though for now they have a better chance containing the 1969 version rather than the 2012 version who broke out of a prison on the moon. During their containment of the psychopath, John Doe could be seen smirking off in the distance. Given he's the kind of scumbag who'd be sent there people asked why he was smirking. The Serial Killer simply stated he appreciates the Circles of Hell they use as an inspiration, and the apparent karmic punishment of those in there. In short, he thinks it's how a prison should work. Tellingly, he didn't find any irony in saying so.
  • Rumors started circulating that Nemesis is planning to break in, then out of Impel Down in order to completely ruin the whole thing out of boredom. Nemesis himself has denied those rumors by saying "I'm not an idiot". Later research revealed that the Joker started those rumors. This has led to people wanting Impel Down to hold the Joker as Arkham Asylum is a failure in containing anyone, but he just smirked by saying "Like that prison would contain me; the fans love me too much!" Unfortunately this wasn't a case of Tempting Fate as Gotham has stated they don't trust the World Government nearly enough to hold their criminals. Batman has yet to give his opinion.
  • The Underwater Prison prides itself on its security, however long ago prisoners managed to use a tunneling Devil Fruit to create a sub-level to serve as a haven for prisoners; Level 5.5: Newkama Land. The Okama Paradise is a place where all the okamas and prisoners can party and have a good time. They're making sure the only people who can know this are fellow criminals and the tropers reading this. It's another reason why the Joker doesn't fear Impel Down, but it's also a reason why sending him to Impel Down would probably end poorly; Newkama Land would likely reject giving him haven given his reputation and personality, which would just leave him to reveal Newkama Land out of spite and use the chaos as a springboard to tearing Impel Down apart. Worse, it's not out of the realms of plausibility he could pull that off.

Mavis Vermillion, Goddess of Breaking Curses (Fairy Tactician, Fairy Heart)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mavis_ft_2018.png
  • Potential House: Magic Mixed
  • Intermediate Goddess
  • Symbol: The Symbol of Fairy Tail
  • Theme Music: Fairy's Glitter
  • Alignment: Chaotic Good
  • Portfolio: All-Loving Heroine, Cursed with immortality and remained stuck at the physical age of 13, the same age she founded Fairy Tail, Friend to All Living Things, Star-Crossed Lovers, "Killed" by Zeref's love for her, leaving her in a state between life and death as an astral projection, Finally breaks the Curse of Ankhselam by reaffirming her love for Zeref, allowing them to die peacefully together
  • Domains: Magic, Love, Curses, Immortality
  • Herald: Zera (her Childhood Friend)
  • Allies: The guild members of Fairy Tail, Jellal Fernandes, the benevolent Harry Potter deities, especially Harry Potter and Albus Dumbledore, Asta, Yuno, Noelle Silva, Robin, The School Life Club (especially Yuki Takeya), Dr. Henry Morgan, The Twintail Warriors
  • Enemies: Acnologia, Mard Geer Tartaros, Grand Admiral Thrawn, Grima, Lord Voldemort, The Beast (Over the Garden Wall)
  • Special Relationship: Zeref
  • Interested in: The House of Fairies and every fairy deitity
  • Sympathetic to: Yomiel, Obito Uchiha, Nagato
  • Mavis was the co-founder and first guild master of Fairy Tail. Having developed the habit of going barefoot due to a harsh master taking away her shoes, Mavis would come to found Fairy Tail alongside a group of treasure hunters. During one journey alongside them, Mavis would come to befriend Zeref, who taught her and her friends magic out of gratitude for easing his loneliness. Using a forbidden spell taught to her by Zeref to save her friend's lives, Mavis would be inflicted with the Curse of Ankhselam, leading her to fall in love with Zeref. Unfortunately, this would put Mavis into a death-like state, causing Zeref's Start of Darkness while her body is preserved in a lacrima crystal and used as a source of limitless magic. Her astral body would interact with the members of Fairy Tail until the time came to fight Zeref and the Alvarez Empire, and Mavis would finally break the curse by admitting she still loves Zeref despite hating him for what he's done, allowing the two to pass on peacefully.
  • Mavis would find herself in the Pantheon not long after she crossed over to the other side with Zeref. Coming before the Court of the Gods, she would learn about the Pantheon and how both Zeref and some of the guild members of Fairy Tail have managed to ascend, and she's been summoned to take on the title of Goddess of Breaking Curses after her mutual love with Zeref finally managed to break their curse and allow them to pass on peacefully. She accepted the title and reunited with both her beloved as well as her guild mates, all of whom are happy to see the first guild master again, and even more so when she is finally able to find happiness with Zeref.
  • Obito and Nagato have earned Mavis' sympathy after she heard of what the two have gone through, even if their personal tragedies weren't as severe as Zeref's. She nevertheless does like the fact that they've at least redeem themselves and are willing to make amends in the Pantheon. She and Zeref tend to meet with them and help them with their personal issues, both their losses and their attempt to make things right.
  • She became quick friends with Asta, Yuno, and Noelle, who remind her of mages back in her world. Asta and Yuno's rivalry reminds her of Natsu and Gray's, and she also shows interest in Asta's Anti-Magic and his desire to become Wizard King, wishing him the best of luck in his dream. Noelle was sympathetic when she heard of Mavis's curse, remembering the curse Megicula killed her mother with, even more so when the curse robbed her of a normal life and harmed people around her. She became quick friends with Mavis, while also secretly envying her for being able to admit her feelings for the man she loved.
  • Robin became quick friends with Mavis due to the two of them being keen tacticians for side. Mavis was horrified to learn how Robin was raised for purpose of being Grima's vessel, while Robin saw Mavis and Zeref's curse to be utterly cruel and excessive. Both found comfort in how the other was at least able to earn their happy ending, with Robin hoping that Mavis and Zeref will find happiness in the next life together.
  • Albus Dumbledore and Mavis had formed a mutual respect for the other's skills in magic, and they also shared their concern over the people they watch over (Dumbledore and his students at Hogwarts, Mavis and her guild mates). Dumbledore expressed sympathy for Mavis after hearing all that she went through, but is happy that she was able to break her curse through her love of Zeref. While Mavis did frown on some of the risks Dumbledore took, she acknowledges that he still helped Harry and was there for him when he needed it.
    • Speaking of Harry Potter, Mavis was quite interested in meeting the boy who survived the odds stacked against him, especially because of The Power of Love. Harry was sympathetic to Mavis after hearing of her cursed immortality, but is at least happy that she finally found peace and love upon death. Mavis notes that they both had cursed fate, but whereas she got to Die with the love of her life, Harry got to live and be free from being Voldemort's Horcrux.
    • Lord Voldemort sees the Curse of Ankhselam as a blessing, which is unsurprising considering his desire for immortality and inability to love, and sees Mavis's breaking it and accepting as foolish and wasteful, abhorring the fact she chose love over eternal life. He outright sees Mavis's Only Mostly Dead condition as well-deserved for not embracing it, and desires the curse for himself so he can truly and finally immortal. Both Mavis and Zeref are making sure that Voldemort can never aquire the means to get himself curse.
    • The Beast, like Voldemort, also desires the Curse of Ankhselam, finding it to be a more efficient form of immortality than his Soul Jar. Mavis and Zeref know just how dangerous the curse will make him even without the "Instant Death" Radius that comes from caring for others, considering that his fighting capabilities were never shown and he mainly relied on manipulating others. Currently the couple are doing their best to keep the Beast from gaining the knowledge and materials needed to invoke the curse, but the Beast is confident he can find a way to get it.
  • Mavis shows sympathy for Yomiel after seeing how his circumstances are similar to hersnote  and how lonely he is after his beloved committed suicide. Mavis even admits that if she didn't have her friends to help her, she might have ended up just like Yomiel, and is at least glad his fate was averted without affecting everyone too much. Yomiel in turn notes how Zeref tried to change the past (something that he was unable to do as a ghost), but Mavis worked to stop him because it would mean erasing their meeting and falling in love, something he would never have done. He is at least glad Mavis' friends were able to stop Zeref from making that mistake.
  • Grand Admiral Thrawn, despite viewing her as an enemy, still respects Mavis's tactical expertise. Mavis in turn, despite disliking Trawn's willingness to side with an evil empire, still respects his intellect and Evil Virtues. After hearing about his backstory, Mavis hopes he'll be able to turn over a new leaf, though even she admits that is far too unlikely.
  • Mavis saw a lot of herself in Yuki Takeya, noting how they both imagined someone was still alive after they're death (Mavis by unknowingly recreating Zera as an illusion, and Yuki by falsely perceiving the word as her everyday life during a zombie apocalypse). The girls got along splendidly with each other, with both sympathizing with the other for struggles in life. Mavis tends to hang out with Yuki and her friends during their spare time, coming to be seen as a Cool Big Sis to the club just like their teacher Megumi Sakura.
  • Ever since she heard about them in a fairy tale, Mavis had always believed fairies may exist, and it's one of the reasons she named her guild Fairy Tail. Because of this, she's absolutely ecstatic when she sees fairy deities in the Pantheon, as her childhood dream of seeing one finally come true. She's met and befriended the likes of Toothania, Tinker Bell, Flora, Fauna, Merryweather, Cosmo, Wanda, and even Fairy-type Pokémon. That said, she has also crossed paths with malicious fairies such as Maleficent, Airy, and the Fairy Godmother, so she is willing to fight against them if necessary.
  • Though she finds their world rather bizarre, Mavis does get along with the Twintailed Warriors, mainly because their pigtails remind her of Zera and Mavis' reason for naming her guildnote . She especially finds Souji as Tail Red adorable, much to his embarassment. She is all too eager to introduce them to Zera when Souji asks her (if only so he can see her pigtails) and wonders if fairies could have tails as long as the warriors twintails.
  • Dr. Henry Morgan felt sympathy for Mavis after hearing of her dilemma back in her world, knowing just what it's like to hate being immortal, and he was horrified when he heard what happened after Mavis had her first kiss with Zeref. He considers her curse of immortality to be far worse than his own, but he's glad that at the very least Mavis was finally end her immortality along with Zeref. Mavis is thankful for this, and promises to find a way to make Dr. Morgan mortal again.
  • After Mavis and Zeref passed away, what happened to them afterwards has become a source of debate. A year after her sacrifice, a girl named Mio appears at Lucy's award ceremony meeting a man named Ailos, both of them resembling Mavis and Zeref respectively, but having none of their memories. It remains unclear if they were resurrected without their memories, Identical Strangers, or simply a part of Lucy's dream. The fact they appear in Natsu's Personalized Afterlife further muddies the situation. Even Mavis and Zeref don't have the answer to that.
  • "Everything begins in the deep abyss of Magic. A Magic that unites it all, love. Love can cause miracles. And the love between the two that have been living with the curse have brought the highest level of contradiction. The more one loves, the more one will take away from another. This curse has taken my life from me, even if I was supposed to be immortal."

@ Manji: Lance of the Epic Battle Fantasy party is known to be someone who wears the Buddhist swastika, though he's not a nazi. (Still attempted to be a militaristic dictator that attempted to conquer the world but is trying to reform)

While it's more of a meta-fact, Whitebeard, a slightly less morally questionable pirate used to have a jolly roger that was meant to be a Buddhist swastika.

I have two brainy ideas to nominate.

The Evil Geniuses: Diabolical Mastermind

Reason: The Evil Geniuses of 1 and 2 solely seek to take over the world while being this trope, each with their own interests and methods toward doing so, and all running distinct out-of-public-view bases with an organization of minions and special henchmen to further their schemes, different ways of managing money, minions, and enemy agents. Also complete with the expected mastermind traps and having a Bond expy for a nemesis.

Socrates: Offing the Mouth

Reason: Adopted from RJ with permission, he was known to be a philosopher infamous for being The Gadfly, saying things that would provoke others' anger, and this would get him executed for "corrupting the youth" when the courts were simply tired of listening to him.

[tup]Mavis

Do either of these ideas fit the tropes I'm proposing. Please answer yes or no. I'd still be happy if someone comes up with something better because I like the ideas you guys have come up with

  • Demeter, Divine Subject of Myths Meant To Explain Things: Demeter is the goddess of the seasons effectively, and she is used as an explanation for winter-she was upset that Hades and Persephone absconded, and whenever her daughter is in the underworld she doesn't do her job so winter happens
  • Sedna, Goddess of Handicapped Divinity: Sedna is a Deity of Human Origin who's abusive father cut her fingers/hand/arms off when she tried to hold onto the boat. She because a sea goddess who's cut off digits became the sea mammals of the world

[up]Alright. But I am wondering something; since we have been using grouping profiles, are there mythological characters up with a kind of poor profile/could be better that might work merging?

Final draft for the Mantis. I'm not adding any more texts, I added as many as I could last time and it's long enough.

Upon ascending, they would be the fourth profile for FTL: Faster Than Light and IIRC that would warrant their own page.

  • Portfolio: Insectoid Aliens resembling Giant praying mantes, Strength in numbers, Boarding Parties, Proud Warrior Race seeking the thrill of the hunt, Lightning Bruiser, Once attempted to invade Earth, Alien Blood
  • Domains: Insects, Boarding, Violence, Warriors, Hunting
  • Allies: Zorak, Atriox
  • Rivals: The Sontarans, The VUX, Queen Sectonia, Warboss Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka, Scarface (Predator)
  • Enemies: The Engi, The Slugs, Star Fox, Jenny Wakeman/XJ-9, AAHW, The Imperium of Man, The Knight, The Radiance, Wikus van der Merwe & Christopher Johnson, Scyther and Lurantis, Master Mantis, The HECU, XCOM, ADVENT, The Unbidden
  • Respected by: Hircine
  • Opposed by/Opposes: Humanity
  • The Mantis' disregard for individual lives led to their evolution as a vicious, warrior race.
  • Of the races native in their universe, few are as universally ruthless and violent as the Mantis. Remorse is hardly ever a word in their vocabulary for they are a race bred for war, and war alone and it shows in their fast speed, incredibly sharp claws, and acidic spit. While not above deception and subterfuge, their preference for physical confrontation is not to be trifled with and it has aided them well in their pursuits of personal gain. If ever you find yourself in Mantis-controlled space you best make your visit a brief one.
  • To many, the passing tales of a place called “the Pantheon” is mere canard — unfounded nonsense. Indeed, it can be quite hard to comprehend the existence of such a place and no amount of explanation or elaboration could convince outsiders. For a place like it, only seeing is believing, and this is what happened when a Mantis Fighter tracking down a Slug Scout discovered a new sector thought to be unknown to the rest of the galaxy. After much data was accumulated by their scouts, the many clans and warbands wasted little time expanding their claims. no doubt bewitched by the possibility of new territory. The Pantheon was quick to respond to the mantids’’ rapid expansion, however, and Star Fox was one of the deities sent to the scene to repel their ships. While they tried tricking the mercenary team by faking the scenario of fleeing ships though they were quick on the up-take and were successful in taking down the waves on their end. While the Mantis did manage to gain a foothold in the Pantheon with various colonies it’s not nearly as strong as they had anticipated.
  • Their vicious mentality has led to them being largely seen as unpopular by the other races. Their fierce nature has led to them forming warbands and taking up hunting other races across the galaxy in the name of glory. Spaces outside their territories tend to get designated as sacred hunting grounds for their various clans. Not even nebulae are except for this, despite the shared frustration in traveling them, and are quite popular to hunt in them due to the challenge present in weeding out the Slugs lurking in them.
    • Of all the races in their home universe, they especially have it out for humans and The Engi. In times past, they once waged war against the Federation and the resulting conflict has left them a bitter taste against mankind with some even itching for a rematch. While the Federation is primarily preoccupied with the Rebellion they’ve stuck to taking out their anger against various human colonies. The enmity goes both ways as stories of their blood-red ships invading Earth have never truly faded. As for the Engi Mantis have been resort to slavery, primarily taking Engi captives to make up for their ineptitude at repairing. Thanks to the Rebellion bringing the Federation to their knees, they’ve exploited the resulting chaos in the galaxy to actively attack their homeworlds. While the Pantheon does have a massive war going on, the Engi are largely unaffected by it due to their neutrality and can allocate their resources to defending their sectors from the insectoid aliens. Them being backed up by the allies they made in the Pantheon certainly helped, something the Mantis are irritated by.
  • A Proud Warrior Race through and through, professions such as merchantry are not respected in their numbers. Few take up such occupations as a result of this perception but you would be surprised by the many Mantis merchants for how little they make up the rest of their kind. Many are holed up in the House of Commerce and they saw the chance to more efficiently do business in such a House and took it while their more violent brethren made a scene. The House of Crime were hit with a similar wave of Mantis dealing in more illegal trade.
    • Their focus on war as a species has earned them some comparisons towards the Sontarans for they see the act of taking care of the wounded and/or sick utterly humiliating since it takes them away from directly combating their opponents. The comparisons resulted in the building of a rivalry that has left much destruction in their wake. At the very least, the Sontarans seem to genuinely enjoy such confrontations between them and the Mantis due to how straightforward they are. After all, a warrior doesn’t talk: He acts.
  • These warriors pride themselves on hunting, and their quarry is all too often made up of sapient lifeforms. Only the finest may do for their clans and personal tallies, and there’s some among them who even take to specializing against specific species right down to adorning themselves with their spoils. The Pantheon has no shortage of great prey to claim from, though some stand out among the rest. The Xenomorph Drone, for instance, is well regarded for its nature as a universally feared predator. Indominus Rex and Indoraptor, despite their origins as artificially created animals from humans, have warranted similar levels of respect. Hircine, hearing of prowess and culture, silently watches over their hunts as he is interested in what will come of their hunts.
  • Jenny Wakeman finds herself fighting off many of the Mantis’ kind quite often after an incident involving a band of thieves being bold enough to conduct raids on the House of Technology. It’s sort of reminiscent of her battles with the Cluster, an alien race of bug-like robots that have frequently tried to invade and conquer Earth and have fought against their ruler, Queen Vexus, many different times. When Jenny finally found herself on their homeworld, Cluster Prime, she ended up kickstarting a revolution that overthrew Vexus and her cronies. One has to wonder if there’s something similar happening with the Mantis behind the scenes while the rest of the galaxy is preoccupied with the Rebels and the ensuing chaos. Even if they’re not mechanical, they're persistent enough of a threat to remain that way.
  • Further separating them from the mantes of Earth is that they’re hinted to be a matriarchal society if an off comment on only particularly vicious females gaining high positions is anything to go off of. Whatever their leadership is, Queen Sectonia seeks to conquer the Mantis not unlike what she planned with Planet Popstar and its inhabitants. As far as she’s concerned, her divine beauty gives her the right to do so for it equals in power as well. The Mantis, however, are not interested in such superficial concepts like “beauty” and seek instead to crush her in return.
  • And speaking of things such as beauty, despite sharing the same opposition towards mankind the VUX find the Mantis ugly and interior like pretty much every other species they’ve encountered. Many of the Mantis say the same with them, seeing no difference between them and the Slugs they know from their home universe. Some warbands have been gathering sizable stockpiles of weapons, most prominently the Anti-Bio Beams created by the Slugs and Anti-Ship batteries, specifically for the purpose of eviscerating them and their ships.
  • Few can admit to achieving the level of barbarity the moronic but homicidal space-faring Orks do. And among the brutal and belligerent greenskin horde, Warboss Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka is the biggest and meanest of them all and is rightfully feared and hated by his enemies. The Mantis originally didn't think much of him or the Orks in general, but after proving himself against a Mantis-infested fortress (originally controlled by the AAHW until the Mantis decided otherwise), they were quick to remedy that opinion through the hard war and have taken him and the Orks much more seriously.
  • Their preference for warping aboard boarding parties isn’t anything to scoff at, and can quickly overrun a space vessel if given the chance and take it for themselves. They can still be held off and those out traveling across space have grown wise to these tactics. The Mantis, not wanting to be outdone, have naturally begun to evolve in such tactics to fit with the Pantheon. Thanks to the ease of access to technology one favored tactic involves warping aboard large stacks of explosives with them, with far numerous in both magnitude and variety than back home. Usually, they utilize a ship’s Bomb-type weapons in conjunction with this. Expect them to fall back to this if their plan A doesn’t hit the mark, such as against the Imperium of Man’s Space Marines. When it became clear they’re far too well-equipped to fall to their crew, the Mantis aboard jumped ship and detonated the stockpile they warped to cover their escape, along with being assisted by Breaching Bombs to further hinder their foes.
  • During the Knight’s adventures in what remained of the once-great kingdom of Hallownest they encountered the Mantis Tribe who managed to hold out against the infection that swept the land. Proud and fierce, they were initially hostile to the warrior until they bested the Mantis Lords in combat. After which, they came to respect them and allowed the Knight passage into Deepnest. While these Mantises have a similar culture, they’re far more dominated by their brutality though many of their kind prefer not to cross with the Knight unless deemed necessary despite his prowess with the Nail, viewing him as something disgusting. Taking into account his origins, they’re not wrong to think that. Some deities may rationalize that such feelings can be seen as a different kind of respect though most aren’t so sure about that.
    • While they’re wary of the Knight, the Mantis are no friends with the Radiance either. The natural reaction to her existence was for every last one of them to declare her as an enemy, rather. As she is the source of the very same infection that ravaged the entire land, mutating its victims into hate-filled zombies meant to serve and worship her after she was forgotten, this is to be expected.
  • Though Wikus and Christopher Johnson are both Insectoid Aliens themselves (well, one was transformed through mutation in the case of Wikus), the two reserve no sympathy for the Mantis even if they have a not-so-nice history with mankind. Considering the Mantis’ nature, it’s pretty likely they were the ones who sparked their feud in the first place. On the Mantis’ end they think of the “Prawn” as weak for letting humanity push them around so easily. Other mantids in the Pantheon are not receptive to their behavior either. Scyther and Lurantis really can’t stomach their penchant for hunting the greatest of game and Master Mantis, while Hot-Blooded himself, declares the man-sized insects are pretty much dominated by their aggressiveness.
    • The Ur-Quan Kzer-Za and Kohr-Ah, contrasting the mantis-like aliens, are instead based on Hawaiian caterpillars. Were this the animal kingdom of Earth a mantis would usually make short of the larval butterflies. However, both Ur-Quan were used to fighting creatures far larger and tougher than them to even hope to form a civilization back when they were still a singular species. In addition, their technology is still far more advanced than theirs even after accounting for the Mantis adapting to the Pantheon’s climate, the Kzer-Za’s fighters and Kohr-Ah’s ring of fire being more than a match for their forces. The former sees an opportunity in making the Mantis their Battle Thralls since they’re quite like Yehat, pterdactyl-like aliens who are also a Proud Warrior Race.
    • Out of the many different aliens in the Pantheon, insect or not, Zorak was one of the first who managed to have a somewhat good relationship with. It would help that he was once a feared warlord before being reduced to Space Ghost’s bandleader for his talk show. Not exactly a glamorous position, something many Mantis really like to remind him of, though to be fair his archnemesis isn’t that well off either and they mock him just as much. Through the former conqueror, a member of the Mantis was invited to Space Ghost’s talk show. Despite making their disdain for humanity pretty clear, the Mantis was well-spoken in English and was a surprisingly cooperative guest. The episode ended up going off-script anyways due to Space Ghost and Zorak being at each other’s throats, however.
  • As far as ruthless warriors go, they greatly respect the mercenary leader Atriox. Dissenters in the Covenant don’t last long, but Atriox has proven himself to be the exception to that very rule and has formed a strong following known as the Banished. In addition to his strength and mindset he has also the charisma to match, and it helped in attracting many Mantis in his newfound war in the Pantheon.
  • Their reputation as a cold-blooded race of war-like murderers exists for a reason, but not everyone falls under that umbrella. Besides the aforementioned traders, it was at one point reported that a Mantis going by the name of Robert Smith lived in a colony consisting of humans. Robert is a rather confused Mantis as he believes he is one of them, but is otherwise loved by his human family. He dreamt of joining the Federation like his older adoptive brother but otherwise was unable to, though some stories about him say he managed to fulfill that dream, as a part of the crew that defeated the Rebellion no less. Contrasting this humble Mantis is the Legendary thief KazaaakplethKilik, a feared Mantis criminal who made a name for himself across the many sectors. After his defeat and reconstitution by a Federation ship and her crew he decided to devote his loyalty and resources to their cause. The list goes on with other such individual Mantises with mercenaries, wanted fugitives, and even former commandos choosing to throw their lot with outsiders. Mind you, it’s rarer with the latter two but it can and has indeed happened.
    • If ever you find yourself with a Mantis as an ally then expect most of their to come from violence. Not that they’re completely inept in other fields (except perhaps repairs), but it’s their go-to. For example, two mercenary Mantis employed by one god were dealing with a sudden hostage situation in a small store off in the middle of nowhere between two Houses. When an allied Slug divined that the thugs were out of their minds and were going to kill the hostages anyway, deal or not, the two mantids took it upon themselves to help clear them out. While they managed to get some shots in, the assailants were ultimately sliced to ribbons before anyone was seriously harmed, their blood becoming the store’s new accent color.
  • An illegal mining operation conducted by a Mantis clan was interrupted by an XCOM squadron sent to investigate the disappearances of several HECU members (who got too close to their territory). Going by limited sightings by locals the team initially thought it to be the work of Chryssalids, though the inconsistencies prevented them from fully assuming it was them. Sure enough, they were correct in their skepticism as it erupted into a long battle that eventually resulted in XCOM killing every last one of the Mantis, though many of the men sent were hospitalized from their wounds. Following this encounter, the Mantis have started gunning for XCOM even if it meant intercepting battles involving ADVENT, or some other hostile extraterrestrial. In some cases, the Mantis go through them just to get to XCOM. While ADVENT tried to appeal to the Mantis’ hatred for humanity the insectoids declined any offer of alliances, being more interested in hunting their various units as well. Both XCOM’s higher-ups and the Elders observing the battles outside believe the Mantis was what could have happened to the Chryssalids if their uplifting did indeed gifted them sentience.

All my fault, you say...? What fault? I daresay it's all thanks to me.

And here's the new version of Mateus. Are there any other in the Pantheon who managed to take over an afterlife?

  • Rivals: Melkor, YHVH, All those who have leadership over an afterlife
  • Some people are born with a rare unbidden ambition, one that pushes them to reach higher and higher for all of their life, and even beyond. The Emperor of the nation of Palamecia was one such soul who sought to control the whole world, even enlisting the help of the Legions of Hell to conquer it. His campaign of domination was nearly unstoppable, which eventually resulted in the sole resistance being the Wild Rose Rebellion, formed from the remnant of the conquered kingdom of Flynn. Though things seemed utterly hopeless, they nonetheless managed to finally kill the tyrant... But death couldn't stop his desire. Upon his passing, his soul was split into a 'dark' half, which went to Hell, and a 'light' half, which went to Heaven. Each promptly conquered their respective afterlives, deposing the dark and light forces. After which, the Emperor of Hell returned to the mortal realm with his demonic forces to lay waste to it, only to be defeated by the same heroes who killed him. At the same time, the Emperor of Heaven called upon the souls of those his empire had killed to try to convince them to forgive him, only for those same souls to rise up and slay him. Thus was his evil finally over, or so it was thought.
  • The Emperor, in a state where both parts of his souls were brought back together, was one of the many warriors called upon by Lord Chaos to act as his servants in an unending cycle of battles, which the ambitious human had accepted only with the goal to take control of both his lord's forces and that of their nemesis, Cosmos. While he failed in that and died once more, Chaos once more called upon him in the Pantheon, even managing to get him the title of those who conquer afterlives. The Emperor's ascension was merely the beginning. Upon learning that there were so many seats of power above the thrones he had taken for himself in his own world and that they were involved in a Forever War that spread across the whole Pantheon, he had decided to extends his original plans and to eventually find a way to usurp the thrones of all of the Great Alliances, so that he can become ruler of all that exists.
  • Since Firion is the hero who has slain him twice, it goes without saying that Emperor absolutely despises him and wishes for nothing less than his complete destruction, and it isn't helped by the fact that the rebel hero carry the Blood Sword, a weapon which can effortlessly destroy even the Emperor's mightier forms. The sentiment is very much reciprocated as Firion is filled with rage towards the despot for all the suffering he brought to his friends and the rest of the world. And so, the two are once more staunch archenemies, and the rest of the heroic Final Fantasy have likewise followed the Salamand native in opposing the emperor, especially since a good number of them already were his enemies when they were serving under Cosmos.
  • Initially, The Emperor once more worked alongside other Final Fantasy villains under the god Chaos, though he naturally planned to betray them just as he did back when they first fought together. However, this alliance was quickly undermined when Kuja and Golbez ended up leaving the forces of evil and joining up with good. This act quickly irked the Emperor, who swore that he would have the heads of the two traitors for this. And there is tension even amongst those who remained on Chaos's side, as he despises Exdeath and Kefka for their plans to destroy the world, leaving nothing for him to rule. Still, he acknowledges their powers and so tries to remain on their good sides so that he can use them wisely.
    • Another 'traitor' he's been targeting is Jecht, and the animosity is very reciprocated in this case, as the Emperor is the one who brainwashed him to the side of Chaos in the first place. By extension, he also is hated by the former blitzball champion's son, Tidus, who also used to fight for Chaos. The despot couldn't care less that his dirty deeds tore their family even further apart, he just hates the thought of losing pawns.
    • Naturally, this meant that he was by extension serving under Melkor in the Grand United Alliance of Evil. However, this changed when he was approached by Darkseid, who sought to recruit the Emperor's cunning and power for the Harbingers Of Repression after hearing about his conquests. Seeing that Darkseid's ideal of a dystopia appealed to him much more than Melkor's spiteful evil, the mage monarch accepted the offer to join. Though he kept his ties with Chaos and, as always, he fully plans on finding a way to bring down Darkseid and become the new God of Tyranny.
  • In the Pantheon, The Emperor can split himself into his Emperor of Hell and his Emperor of Heaven halves. While they're both the same egotistical tyrant in the end, his 'dark half' is more openly misanthropic and primarily focuses on laying waste to the world and destroying everything on it, bringing him closer to the ideals of the Grand United Alliance of Evil, and the 'light half' casts himself as a higher and benevolent being, who offers salvation and blessings to wicked humanity, which allowed him to more easily approach the similarly conceited members of the Grand United Alliance of Law. Yet despite those differences, the two have no problem working with one another. In fact, their differing personalities are part of a ploy by the Emperor to take the thrones of the Alliances they're respectively closer to, then unite them to conquer the rest of the Pantheon. Yet both Melkor and YHVH are heard about his exploits, and so are justifiably wary around any of his selves.
    • Hearing of an Heart that was pure evil, even after being purged of its darkness, heavily interested Master Xehanort and his other selves, and the old Keyblade master has approached the Emperor to study it. While the despot doesn't care much for his ultimate goal of purging darkness from people's hearts, he did grow interested in how Xehanort deliberately splitting himself into his Heartless and Nobody to accomplish his plans was much similar to his own successes with his two halves. As such, he has welcomed the latter's attempt to investigate him, and even has been trying to get advice on using time travel to possibly split himself furthermore so that he can have a 'representative' for each alliance. Additionally, since the Emperor of Hell is his incarnated darkness, he can control the Heartless without any dangers, something which he eagerly takes advantage of.
    • Naturally, a good number of deities are horrified by the fact that the Emperor is so nefarious that even his 'good' side is pure evil. On the other hand, Vanitas find the fact that his darkness and light are as evil as the other hilarious and is glad to work with the tyrant on his scheme, something was helped by his tie to Xehanort. However, the three can't help but wonder if the union of his split halves could possibly invoke the X-Blade, something which they are all eager to find out.
  • The Emperor has proven himself to be an expert schemer and in fact was the primary brain behind the Warriors of Chaos during the Dissidia conflict, and in fact was the one that came up with their overall plan. He's also completely relentless in his schemes and seldom gives any chance to his enemies, as was proven by his conquest of the world. Of course, any advice he offers is tainted by the fact that he plans to betray any authorities so that he can be the one to stands above all. He's naturally wary around the likes of Motonari or David Xanatos. Though he refuses to admit anyone could possess a greater mind than his own, he is wise enough to make plans that would protect himself against them. Another deity he has grown wary of is Lelouch vi Brittania, especially after hearing that the young man managed to utterly destroy an empire that had ruled over a great part of the world for a century. Lelouch himself despises the Emperor for reminding him of the worst excesses of Brittania, and so the two have been making their own plans on how to eventually dispose of the other.
  • A lot of deities have noted that he looks very much like the legendary singer David Bowie, and more than a few of them confused the two on occasion. While the Emperor doesn't have much of an opinion on music or on Bowie himself, the fact that he could be likened to a powerless mere mortal like him anger the prideful despot. Anyone who calls him by that name is bound to get into all sorts of trouble with traps later on.
    • He also flipped off when Nagisa Misumi/Cure Black and Honoka Yukishiro/Cure White mistook him as a reincarnated Pissard, who, you guessed it, looked like David Bowie. The battle raged for a long time and by the end of it, The Emperor has come to hate the two magical girls. As for the two of them, while they did recognize that he wasn't actually Pissard after all, they still staunchly oppose his ambitious and tyrannical way.
    • This resemblance to Bowie also got him comparisons to Jareth, especially when it comes to the way they dress. The Emperor, for his part, grew fascinated by the Goblin King's labyrinth and how he can change every facet of it on a whim. And so, the despot decided to strike an agreement with him so that he can study his labyrinth in the hope of modifying Pandemonium and Arubboth so that he can have an equivalent mastership of them. In exchange, he has been teaching some of his spells to the fairy-like being.
  • For a very long time, nobody knew his actual name, as he felt no need to be known by anything lesser than the title that shows his eventual rulership over all. An alternate telling of his tale gave him the name Mateus, but this story also showed him as completely manipulated by Satan and never managing to conquer Hell for himself. Naturally, the arrogant monarch absolutely despised something that made him look like a pawn and so refused to acknowledge it. But it eventually turned out during the wars between Chaos and Cosmos that Mateus was actually his name, though he still never use it.
  • Quite naturally, he has been planning on taking over other afterlives, of which there are many tied to the various gods of the Pantheon. Upon learning about how Laharl managed to become Overlord of his Netherworld by simple martial might, as did Lucifer of the Seven Mortal Sins with Hell, he has been making plans to defeat them and take their realms for their own. Both have already heard of the guy's reputation and are naturally quite against this, which means they're fully preparing themselves to fight him eventually. He thinks of the Hell that the Helltaker visited as quite an easy target, since its greatest demons were easily recruited into a mortal man's harem for pancakes of all things. Yet, unexpectedly, he has shown nothing but courtesy towards the visiting angel Azazel, who was fascinated by the thought of a mortal sinful enough to conquer Hell. He seems more than happy to answer all of her questions and to guide her. In truth, he has learned about she grew powerful enough to take over the place herself in an alternate timeline, and so has decided to deliberately guide her along that part so that he can have a powerful ally.
    • There are others in the Pantheon who accomplished the feat of taking over an afterlife. The psychotic adventurer known as Black Mage managed to take over Hell due to his immense evil, but any thoughts in the Emperor's mind about a possible alliance of convenience were quickly squashed by the mage's stupidly destructive impulses. And so, the despot has designated him as a threat to simply eliminate. Upon learning about how the Saint of Killers took over both Hell and Heaven yet had no interest in ruling himself, he had tried to coax him into his services. He was quickly shot down quite literally by the Saint, who pointed out he was no better than the version of God from his world.
  • Quite naturally, his despotic ways have earned him the ire of other freedom fighters such as The Night Raid, who swore that they would remove his evil forever. The Emperor would scoff at this, but his experiences with the Wild Rose had taught him very well that even such paltry resistance shouldn't be underestimated, and so he has been planning on how to dispose of the assassins.
  • Upon hearing about how a mere mortal usurped the divine positions, Zamasu immediately went ballistics and swore that he would destroy the Emperor and every last one of his accomplishments from reality for the sins of tainting the realm of the gods with mortal wickedness. The despot just laughed at his face, unimpressed by the usual hypocrisy of the Supreme Kai who betrayed his own divine master before exterminating every other deity, then pointed out that they both want to be masters of everything, he's just honest about it.
    • On the other spectrum of tyrannical divinities, the God of Control Yaoldaboth became interested in The Emperor, both because he himself usurped the divinely-appointed role of Igor and because he very much approves of a single empire where free thought is forbidden controlling the entire world. And so, he has approached the mage to offer an alliance, adding that should the latter somehow manage his plans to take over the Pantheon, he would be glad to help him make a world of perfect order. Having very little objections with that as long as he's on top of everything, Mateus accepted.
