Examples of World's Strongest Man in video games.

  • Asura's Wrath: Asura cements himself as this when ending the game by beating up Chakravartin, who's essentially God.
  • Azure Striker Gunvolt Series:
    • From 1 comes Nova "the Mighty", the strongest Adept under Sumeragi's employ. His Septima Psychokinesis grants him the ability to fly, mold energy into homing projectiles, and control objects in outer space (like a Kill Sat). He can fight evenly with Gunvolt without releasing his Glaive to amplify his power unlike his subordinate Sumeragi Swordsmen. Also, he has three Glaives because just one couldn't properly contain his power, and when he releases them he becomes able to call down a Meteor-Summoning Attack that is a One-Hit Kill. Part of the only reason he loses to Gunvolt is because Joule/Lumen was Fighting from the Inside with his Fusion Dance with them.
    • From 2, Zonda was already a winner of the Super Power Lottery with her Septima Phantasm Mirror, but once she successfully integrates Joule's Muse Septima, she obtains the power of Reverie Mirror and would have succeeded in her goal to Kill All Humans for Adept superiority if Gunvolt and/or Copen (who was using abilities derived from all her strongest subordinates) hadn't taken her down shortly after she got this power.
    • By the time of 3, Gunvolt is explicitly called the world's most powerful Adept. His Septima, the Azure Striker, on top of being one of the most versatile in existence, has since evolved and transformed him into a Primal Dragon, a being whose Septima has awakened and gives him the ability to emit Dragon Radiation that further power-ups other Adepts while making them berserk. Even when sealed by 1000 Glaives by Sumeragi (recall how Nova needed just three), he still generated enough electricity to allow Japan to abandon fossil fuels. In-gameplay, he's treated as the Super Mode in the Tag Team between himself and Kirin (who ironically is one of the few who can actually fight him hope to contain his power) and is Purposely Overpowered. In the Non-Standard Game Over, letting his full power run loose too long causes him to revert to his Primal Dragon form and destroy the world.
  • Bayonetta has Singularity from 3, who is the strongest character in the series barring Rodin, after absorbing the energy from all the worlds he's destroyed and evolving to his Definition form. He's capable of warping the fabric of reality at will and powerful enough to give Bayonetta one of the hardest fights in her career, and this is assuming if he doesn't win the battle outright because he rigged the outcome — something that happened to over two thousand Bayonettas before he fights the prime version. Even when she manages to beat him, it's a Mutual Kill as Singularity manages to damage her Umbra Watch, causing her to overtax her powers and shatter it, resulting in her getting sent to Inferno.
  • BlazBlue has several people in the series who can claim the title.
    • Ragna was this in the very first game, sort of, even though he has the reputation of one. On his own, while absurdly powerful and much stronger than most of the cast, there are a good number of characters who supersede him in strength. When he activates the Azure Grimoire, however, only the absolute strongest characters in the entire series can hope to match him. This, combined with him staying strong while others are getting weaker due to the Embryo's effects and a Dangerous Forbidden Technique is the reason why, in the end, he's the only character that's in the same ball park as Susano'o, a Physical God.
    • Hakumen is by far, the most powerful character in the cast (well until the introduction of Susano'o, who uses the exact same body as him). Even at a quarter of his full power, he can defeat most of the cast. The only other beings considered in the same league as him at full power are other prime Six Heroes like Jubei (the "strongest living creature in existence" at his prime during Dark War and still sufficiently powerful in the present), Terumi, Relius, Izanami, Onlookers, Ragna with the Idea Engine's limiter on the Azure Grimoire removed, and Azrael (likely at full power).
    • Azrael is the strongest fighter of the entire cast in terms of physical strength, especially since his powers aren't the result of magic or technology and he appears to have limitless stamina. To put it simply, even Hakumen found fleeing to be a preferable alternative than continuing his battle with Azrael.
    • Jūbei, a cat who is word for word described as the world's strongest living being. His powers, or at least the full extent of them, have never been shown within the series thus far. However, being one of the Six Heroes, he is likely exceptionally powerful, and several powerful figures in the BB cast, amongst them Hakumen and Terumi, agree with the claim that Jūbei is the strongest creature alive. Hakumen stated during the Dark War, where he was at full power, that even if he were to go all-out, even he may not be able to defeat Jūbei. It is implied that Jūbei is nigh-undefeatable in combat as none have dared to engage in battle against him. This is furthered by the fact that when he catches Hazama off guard in Hazama's gag scenario, Hazama seems to just accept the fact that Jūbei will kill him and does not even try to put up a fight, as well as the fact that Jūbei casually intercepts a punch thrown by the game's resident Mighty Glacier, Iron Tager. In Taokaka's Continuum Shift Story Mode, Relius admits that he would be no match for Jubei. Prior to receiving his injuries, anyway.
    • Susano'o — Terumi's true idenity once he forcibly reclaims the Susano'o Unit from Hakumen — is the strongest character of the entire series. Considering Terumi and Hakumen were already two of the most powerful characters in the series, you can imagine how ridiculously strong the combination of the two is. Case in point, he was able to effortlessly defeat Ragna, Jin, Noel, Izayoi and Jubei at the same time. Ragna says he's even stronger than Azrael. He's so powerful that it takes Ragna overloading the Idea Engine and activating the full power of the Azure Grimoire (nearly destroying his body in the process) to even come close to matching Susano'o. If not for Terumi not being fully fused with the Susano'o Unit, giving Ragna the chance to rip him out of it, he would be completely unstoppable.
  • Castlevania:
    • Dracula is the strongest character in the whole series as well as being an Invincible Villain to boot... Dracula is so powerful that even Death is just his henchman. Being immortal Dracula will return every 100 years once he's been "killed" which has led to the Belmonts fighting him for millennia as their Arch-Enemy. It took Julius Belmont, Dracula's Dhampyr son Alucard, and several others to permanently put the Count down (by trapping his castle in a solar eclipse and cutting off the Dark Lord from his source of power)... but then he just reincarnates as Soma Cruz a few decades later.
    • As for strongest Vampire Hunter it probably comes down to either Richter Belmont from Castlevania: Rondo of Blood, whose power Alucard admits are "supreme among vampire hunters" to the point that no else can beat him... or Juilus Belmont from Aria of Sorrow, who is dubbed "the most powerful Vampire Hunter" and technically the only Belmont who truly killed Dracula in 1999.
    • The strongest female character (not including she-vamps like Carmilla) is undoubtedly Shanoa from Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia. Her shapeshifting powers make her more versatile than Sonia Belmont (previous female protagonist) and Shanoa is strong enough for Dracula to compare her directly to the Belmont clan in terms of power.
    • In the Castlevania: Lords of Shadow games, Gabriel Belmont, the Founder of the entire clan in the Alternate Continuity, was already the strongest man alive, with it specifically being said that he was the most powerful warrior in the entire Brotherhood of Light, which is composed of thousands of well-trained individuals, even compared to his later descendants. He can casually defeat and kill even powerful monsters, including even taking down an actual god and killing two of three of the Lords of Shadow, essentially the Monster Progenitor of the Vampires and Werewolves, with the third and strongest Lord of Shadows being afraid of Gabriel's strength and using the underhanded means of placing in his arm the Dark Gauntlet that could allow him to control Gabriel and thus make him the only person Gabriel can't defeat. After that, Gabriel defeats Satan himself, albeit granted Satan was in a weakened state, physically overpowering him and magically besting him before sealing him back. He is also able to battle the Forgotten One, the sovereign of the elemental plane of darkness, even more powerful than Satan himself, although the demon was just at a fraction of his strength and he couldn't possibly fight him at his height.
      • By the time he's absorbed the Forgotten One's strength and kills him with a swipe of his hand, Gabriel becomes the Dracula of the Lords of Shadow and is effectively the most powerful being the world has ever seen, if not the single strongest entity in all of Castlevania, apart from God, though he doesn't count. Just his feelings alone could create weapons of great magical power, and he was in command of all the hordes of dark creatures, actually using his reign of terror for some measure of goodness in that he isn't as evil as Satan and Zobek, but his strength has exceeded them a long time ago to where they wouldn't dare fight him, effectively meaning he's the Barrier Maiden to the dark forces who are even worse than him in terms of sheer evil but inferior in terms of raw strength. The single time he is defeated, it's obvious that Gabriel threw the fight because it was against his son and grandson, with it specifically being indicated he could have killed them several times over. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 displays just how overwhelmingly mighty Gabriel as Dracula is as he casually fights the entire Brotherhood of Light, with even the Paladin Roland De Ronceval being only a moderate challenge, before overpowering a holy spell cast by Roland and turning it against him to create a devastating explosion that all but utterly destroyed the entire organization. Even with his power fractured, he is still able to casually hand Curb-Stomp Battle to the dark creatures who turned against him and defeat Satan's Acolyte. He's only ever defeated by the second acolyte due to him having the Home Field Advantage, and as soon as it is gone, he instantly recovers from the pummeling and quickly kills him. At the final stage of his quest for redemption, which marks the end of his long journey against evil and starts his new life with his restored family, Dracula defeats Zobek while hardly even breaking a sweat and he overpowers Satan at his full strength, even despite Satan using his son's body warranting him to hold back, before killing the Devil once and for all, clarifying his status as the single mightiest creature alive in the world.
  • Darkstalkers:
    • Morrigan Aensland is likeliest contender for strongest female character and strongest Darkstalker in general, being a S-Class succubus. Although Demitri, Pyron and Dark Messiah Jedah have all given Morrigan a run for her money at multiple points, Morrigan's potential exceeds them all as she's so powerful her father Belial Aensland had to split her soul apart, concluding that she would destroy herself otherwise. Judging by Morrigan's ending in Darkstalkers 3, where she fuses with Lillth (the remaining third of Morrigan's soul given shape by Jedah), this doesn't seem to be the case.
    • The aforementioned Belial bears mention, being not only the strongest of the Three High Nobles of Makai (which also included Jedah) but a Class S+ Darkstalker. When Demitri (a Class A) had the gall to challenge him for the throne, Belial responded by flinging Demitri and his castle out of reality, exiling him to the human world in the process — a drubbing that Demitri hadn't fully recovered from by the time the first game rolled around. Jedah considers Belial's death prior to the events of the third game a major factor in the collapse of Makai (hence his Assimilation Plot), and the fact that Belial sees Morrigan as having the potential to surpass him speaks volumes about her power.
    • Donovan Baine is this, at least in the the OVA. In the climax, after getting a Heroic Second Wind by accepting his demonic blood, Donovan singlehandedly defeats super alien Pyron, the Big Bad who ran roughshod over every other Darkstalker up until that point, albeit with help from the aforementioned Anita.
    • As far as mortals go, Fake Cutie Baby Bonnie Hood (or Bulleta in Japan) is the strongest human being, able go toe to toe with the A and S Class demons with nothing but her own strength, tricks, bombs, and More Dakka. This is especially notable considering that Class B demons are at One-Man Army levels of power, able to solo an entire platoon of trained marines, and most of the cast is B+ or higher.
  • Devil May Cry:
    • Sparda the Legendary Dark Knight was the strongest demon who ever lived in addition to being the World's Best Warrior (until his sons came along). In his time, Sparda "woke up to justice" and singlehandedly defeated Mundus, the "Prince of Darkness" along with his army before closing the gate to Demon World. After his death, Sparda was worshiped as a a deity and two of the major villains of the series seek to gain Sparda's great power, not understanding that Sparda's humane side was the true source of his strength.
    • Vergil, Sparda's first son, seeks to become the world strongest man/demon by gaining the power of his father through any means necessary, but already begins high up on the food chain. At the start of DMC3 he proves his strength by effortlessly killing the mini-boss that was giving Dante a challenge in Mission 2 and then wrecks his younger brother in a duel. However, when Dante unlocks his Devil Trigger, he manages to fight Vergil to a stalemate in their rematch and outright defeat him in the Final Battle, though by then Vergil had acknowledged his bro as a Worthy Opponent. Afterward, Vergil proceeds to bite off more than he can chew by challenging Mundus following his entrapment in Demon World, figuring he can replicate his father's feat. He ends up serving Mundus as Nelo Angelo for his troubles, with his next set of encounters with Dante more or less echoing the events of 3 (clear advantage in their first duel, only to be soundly defeated the next two times). In Devil May Cry 5, he splits into two beings representing his demon and human sides that each gain power that, when they recombine near the end of the game, is enough to let him break even with Dante despite his brother having taken many levels in badass since their battle in the original DMC that ended with his death.
    • Dante doesn't take long to establish himself as the strongest warrior in the DMC verse bar none. In his first outing, he avenges his mother and finishes where his father left off by wrecking Mundus (who beat Vergil) and sealing him away (though he requires the power of Sparda for the first two phases of the battle and delivers the finishing blow with Trish's help). Devil May Cry 2 sees Dante plowing through Arius and his demon horde like it's nothing, culminating in the devil hunter killing a recently revived demon king once fought by Sparda (Argosax) without ever once activating his Devil Trigger. By the time of DMC4 (where Dante is noted in the instruction manual and in-game gallery to have surpassed his father), not even the Savior, a colossal statue in Sparda's likeness, is a credible threat: Dante is seen easily catching its gigantic fist with his demonic strength and that's after slicing the Savior up with Implausible Fencing Powers. It's suggested Dante could've defeated the Savior on his own, and without much difficulty at that; the only reason he didn't was because he wanted to give his nephew Nero a chance to shine. Devil May Cry 5 then subverts this when Dante finds himself on the wrong end of a Curb-Stomp Battle from Urizen (who is actually Vergil's demon half, now separated from his human morality and completely unrestrained) in the beginning of the game, one that ends with his Devil Trigger overpowered and his Rebellion shattered. Dante then fuses with both Rebellion's remains and the devil sword Sparda to unlock a new Devil Trigger and gain a new personal Devil Arm (the Devil Sword Dante), allowing him to defeat Urizen (who further powered up by eating the fruit of the Qliphoth Tree, the source of Mundus's own Physical Godhood), though he's only able to break even with the newly resurrected and far stronger Vergil.
    • In a triple twist, the final mission of DMC5 possibly suggests Nero with his new Devil Trigger may be the strongest now, as he manages to hold back Vergil and Dante, both in their Sin Devil Trigger forms, simultaneously. However, it should be noted Nero dropped into the fight after Dante and Vergil had been worn out somewhat from their attempted Duel to the Death and Vergil, having just learned from Dante that Nero is his son and lacking the motivation to make a serious attempt on Nero's life, pulls his punches in the ensuing battle; how Nero would fare against them at full strength is still questionable. Considering a combined backhand from Dante and Vergil could incapacitate Nero, Nero likely falls behind his father and uncle, though to be fair it was a surprise attack.
    • As far as mere mortals go Lady is undoubtedly the strongest human in the series being able to take on hundreds of demons as easily as Dante himself and in DMC3 is able briefly hold her own against both Dante and Vergil and block strikes from the latter (though it’s shown Vergil was tired at that point given how many other powerful opponents are diced up by Yammato it’s still very impressive). Later on she’s able to give Dante a legitimate fight while wounded which would be impossible for even a healthy normal human. Worth noting Lady is not the strongest female character in the series however, that title goes to either Trish or Lucia from DMC2 by virtue of them being demonesses in league with Dante.
  • In Dicey Dungeons, the Warrior enters the dungeons in hopes to become the strongest fighter there is.
  • In Dynasty Warriors, Lu Bu the mightiest warrior in the Three Kingdoms Era, bar none, not only that, he’s also the strongest character in the series.
  • EXTRAPOWER: Hero Zophy is a normal human who has built himself up to physical perfection through a lifetime of training. Giant Fist gets to show this off by giving Zophy the opportunity to casually lift bears or elephants, break DurableDeathtraps with his hands and feet, and avoid an Indy Escape by just lifting the boulder and throwing it back at his attackers!
  • In Fallout 2, Frank Horrigan most definitely claims the title as the single most physically imposing and capable entity in the wastes. Already an extremely unhinged and borderline crazy Blood Knight, Horrigan was only made even more dangerous by falling into a vat of FEV and turning into a mutant abomination. The scientists of the Enclave then decided to make him even more dangerous by pumping him continuously full of combat drugs, giving him a custom suit of Power Armor, and arming him with the most deadly weapons they can devise. (Which in their case is rapid-fire plasma casters) Not that he really needs them though, as he is seen in game ripping deathclaws apart with his bare hands. In a setting where the average human is lucky to get their hands on a solid and reliable firearm and some decent armor, Frank Horrigan is the sole example of what the pre-war American military always sought as it's end-goal: A 10 foot tall brute clad in Power Armor that can shrug off missiles and armed with weapons that could punch a hole through a tank, and pumped full of drugs/medicine for good measure.
  • Final Fantasy:
    • In Final Fantasy VI, Sabin Rene Figaro easily takes the World's Strongest Man title. While other members of the cast like Terra and Celes are more "magically powerful" than him, Sabin — with just his Ki Manipulation and pure Bare-Fisted Monk physical strength — is able to beat the piss out of the likes of Typhon (who is able to flip the Planet upside-down with its power), Gilgamesh, and Shinryu. In-story, he clobbered Big Bad Kefka so hard in Doma, the Monster Clown literally flees from his onslaught. Of course, even when Kefka has become a literal god, he still isn't safe from Sabin's fists. On a comparatively mundane but memorable level, Sabin also bears the memetic distinction of being able to suplex a Ghost Train so hard he destroys it.
    • In Final Fantasy VIII, Ultimecia is stated to be the most powerful sorceress in history. As such, she added all of the sorceress power in existence to her already tremendous magic power, gaining god-like abilities. Ultimecia even has complete control over Space-Time magic and can warp reality to deceive her enemies, culminating in her ultimate goal of "time compression", a singularity where all of time and space is condensed into a single moment. This is isn't even counting her One-Winged Angel forms in the final battle; in her final form, her powers have skyrocketed to Physical Goddess levels, becoming the single greatest threat in existence that must be stopped.
    • Final Fantasy XIII and its sequels have Lightning. While not necessarily the strongest member of her party in the first game (as all of the party members are l'Cie and Fang and Vanille additionally are two halves of Ragnarok, the legendary beast destined to destroy Cocoon), but she officially becomes this after becoming the champion of Etro, Goddess of Death, in XIII-2. This allows her to fight on par with Caius Ballad, who has the Heart of Chaos — Etro's very own heart — that makes him immortal and gives him control over the power of chaos, allowing him to travel through time and transform into Chaos Bahamut. As the Savior in the third game, Lightning becomes so strong she manages to kill/seal Bhunivelze, a Physical God within the Fabula Nova Crystallis mythology, although with quite a bit of help in dealing the finishing blow after having overpowered him. This feat alone arguably makes her the strongest protagonist in the entire Final Fantasy franchise, a title that Motomu Toriyama, director of the XIII series, agrees with, at least until Final Fantasy XVI comes around''.
    • Final Fantasy XVI: Clive Rosfield eventually qualifies as the most powerful being in his universe. He starts out as an Empowered Badass Normal who was already at the top of his game, both in terms of physical prowess AND the use of magic, being the "First Shield" of Rosaria and then according to Wordof God quickly rising through the ranks of the Slave Mook of the Empire of Sanbreque, but even at his weakest state Clive can still fight and overpower two Dominants, Jill and Benedikta, with sheer determination and incredible natural strength, although in the former case he did have help from other Slave Mook but she did also have aid from the Ironbloods forcing her to fight and afterwards he was still more than a match for his sergeant Tiamat, while in the latter case, he forced her to go into a partial transformation after winning against her in a fair fight and still gave a pretty damn good fight against her, holding his own and inflicting his fair share of damage on her, before his Canine Companion Torgal helped him deal the finishing blow. Once he starts to scratch the surface of his true abilities, that of Power Copying and Dominant abilities by taking Garuda's power from Benedikta, Clive is even able to single-handedly challenge Garuda, managing to cut off her hand, although she might have been toying with him at first, and once he goes full Ifrit, Clive straight-up beats her to death. He only keeps growing stronger and stronger as he takes more of the powers of the Dominants, as he cuts off Hugo Kupka's hand in a fierce fight and later kills him as Titan upon finally fully mastering his powers as Ifrit even when Titan has consumed his Mothercrystal. The only time we see him on the losing end of a fight is when he fights Bahamut and later Barnabas as Odin, and even then, Clive still triumphs against the former with some help from Joshua, while he puts up a much better fight against Barnabas than Joshua did and survives being cut in a way that should have bisected him, with Barnabas even admitting he could see the potential power in Clive despite handing him his ass in their first fight, before eventually growing strong enough to kill the previously undefeatable Barnabas in a straight-fight. By the end of the game, upon acquiring his full potential, Clive proves capable of defeating Ultima, the Godof Gods, and the fight was arguably closer to being a Curb Stomp Cushion, as he bests everything Ultima can throw at him every step in the way, overpowering him in every clash of power and leaving the arrogant Top God in impotent utter disbelief fury over being so outclassed, to where the finishing move was Clive simply throwing a sword imbued with his fire and powering straight through Ultima's beam like it was nothing and leaving a hole in his chest before Clive then ends the fight with a simple mighty punch that leaves the God Is Evil helpless and reverted back to his original form after he had absorbed the power of all his brehtren and still lost. Sadly, acquiring Ultima's power proves too much for Clive, but he still manages to destroy all Magic in the world and detonate a humongous-sized mothercrystal with a single explosion after performing a resurrection on his little brother. If anything, by the end of his series, considering how he's surpassed Lightning's feat from Final Fantasy XIII of killing a Physical God by doing so under his own power, Clive is possibly the most powerful protagonist in the whole franchise.
    • Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin: By the end of the game Jack Garland definitely qualifies as the most powerful being on the planet. He absorbs the power of Chaos brought forth by the Lufenians, allowing him to hijack their power to reset the world and become the original Big Bad of Final Fantasy. Even though he created the cycle so that the Warriors of Light would defeat him, the dlc shows that even after preparing the team with Bahamut's power he still kills them more then a couple times before they are victorious. And that's on top of killing just about everything of note in the world.
  • Final Fantasy VII and the subsequent Compilation of Final Fantasy VII deserve their own separate mention.
    • Sephiroth is the biggest example of the strongest being in the Compilation, which even extends to crossovers.
      • He's called both the strongest being and the greatest warrior on the Planet by pretty much everyone: Being the most powerful fighter of the N.G.O. Superpower of the game and responsible singlehandedly for many of its victories, Sephiroth's might was said to be so great that the tall tales of his abilities actually understate him rather than the opposite. The creators themselves have stated that there's nothing stronger than him in the world. True, Cloud and company do defeat him (three times counting Advent Children) but according to Hironobu Sakaguchi (Final Fantasy's creator), Sephiroth was still holding back against AVALANCHE. The developers also confirmed his defeats at Cloud's hands that didn't have Sephiroth being taken by surprise or weakened previously were only possible due to Sephiroth's hatred of Cloud and hubris making him hold back from killing Cloud as quickly as possible and instead toy with him, and even then is Sephiroth still shown to be easily more than a match for Cloud until Cloud gets the Heroic Second Wind needed to put him down. This is really driven in by Final Fantasy VII Remake, where he takes on the entire party five-on-one in his human form. Although he was being pressured, his overall demeanor makes it evident he still wasn't going all-out, apparently as he still needs the party or at least Cloud for his new plans, and Sephiroth subjects Cloud to a Curb-Stomp Battle, easily disarming him in the process. Just to hammer the point home, the penultimate boss is a Kaiju-sized embodiment of fate that's implied to be fighting the party because trying to stop Sephiroth would be outside its abilities.
      • In the Dissidia Final Fantasy series, where Sephiroth and various other powerful main villains from across the Final Fantasy series are subservient to the Physical God that is Chaos and the heroic side is comprised of the best heroes of their own games, Sephiroth is feared and respected by ally and foe alike. In fact, it's suggested Sephiroth is the strongest fighter on Chaos's side, possibly surpassed only by the gods and Shinryu themselves. He's the only one who has ever defeated a Warrior of Cosmos on his own (Firion and Tifa), and he has even taken on three of them at the same time (Tidus, Cecil, and Firion) and walked away. Even the Warrior of Light, Cosmos's second-in-command, can't truly beat him, with Sephiroth being casual about it and the Warrior being shocked by just how powerful and different he is from the others, while Lightning, who is indicated to be on par with the Warrior and has defeated her world's Physical God, is nearly beaten by him as well. Cloud may have defeated him, but it's specifically made clear that he has only ever beaten him because Sephiroth allowed him to win. When Sephiroth finally lets loose in NT, Cloud ends up being the loser.
      • In Kingdom Hearts, Sephiroth is portrayed as Cloud's darkness and while he's weaker than his main counterpart, he's still a strong fighter, even serving as a tougher-than-the-Final Boss Superboss in Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts II. When defeated by Sora, he calmly states that only Cloud can defeat him, implying that he wasn't taking his fight with Sora seriously. Cloud himself struggles to keep pace with Sephiroth until he's rallied on by Tifa (implied to be Cloud's inner light in this continuity) in his time of need, and the final outcome of their battle isn't shown.
      • In Mobius Final Fantasy, he not only repeatedly stomps Cloud, very nearly killing him, but he also beats the main hero and Cloud. Cloud specifically makes it clear that Sephiroth is the strongest fighter in his universe.
      • In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, he's described as having "boss-level strength" as a character and is considered to be one of the best characters playable. Perhaps most of all, while his true might is only seen in his reveal trailer, said trailer shows Sephiroth effortlessly slicing down Galeem, the Final Boss of World of Light and a Physical God capable of wiping nearly out all existence in the universe, and plowing through a majority of the Smash Bros. cast (including characters who'd qualify for this trope or Story-Breaker Power in their own games, such as Bayonetta), even recovering from Cloud's Omnislash Version 5 and activating his strongest form, Safer Sephiroth, in response (though the trailer ends before we see the outcome).
    • Although usually not quite near Sephiroth's own level of strength, Cloud Strife can also claim this title after he defeated Sephiroth three times, albeit with Sephiroth either taken by surprise or holding back. Before being injected with Mako energy and Jenova cells, he was strong enough to lift and throw a wounded Sephiroth into a Mako Reactor while being impaled using sheer willpower. After being experimented on, he was powerful enough to help defeat Sephiroth who became stronger after entering and merging with the Lifestream and was ultimately the one who dealt the finishing blow. By the time of Advent Children two years later, Cloud has grown even stronger and was able to contend with the three remnants of Sephiroth despite being ill with Geostigma, and once he's cured, Cloud completely dominates Kadaj in a 1v1 duel. He's able to slice Bahamut SIN, which was stated to be the strongest form of Bahamut in the FFVII series, in half with some help from his friends. While he is once again overpowered by Sephiroth in terms of overall might, he still ends up winning by using all his power in an emotion-driven attack that one-shots him. He can be considered the strongest man alive and active until Genesis's return to activity in Dirge of Cerberus (who as a SOLDIER 1ST Class able to fight even Sephiroth would plausably be above Cloud, or at least equal given the latter's own feats). The aforementioned Sephiroth trailer for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate depicts Cloud as literally the only member of the roster able to go toe to toe with the One-Winged Angel, even briefly overwhelming Sephiroth with Omnislash Ver. 5 exactly like he did in Advent Children.
    • Arguably another candidate for the title of the strongest man would be Zack Fair, particularly if one goes by Crisis Core and its version of events. Already an exceptional SOLDIER with the might to casually take out entire groups of enemies and defeat Summons, Zack steadily grew stronger to the point of defeating Angeal and Genesis, who are two of the three best SOLDIER First Class — made even more impressive by how they are revealed to have been the Jenova Project's second greatest under only Sephiroth himself and were powered up into giant monsters at the time. While Cloud needed support from his friends to kill Bahamut SIN, Zack was able to defeat Bahamut Furynote by himself with ease, suggesting he is even stronger than the entire party in their diminished state. The only character whose strength definitely surpasses his is Sephiroth, and even he had to put in a significant amount of his strength to beat Zack, who managed to last quite a while, a fact acknowledged by Hojo, who is utterly obsessed with Sephiroth as his "perfect creation", as meaning Sephiroth, despite being insane, saw him as a Worthy Opponent, and according to Crisis Core, wore Sephiroth down enough for Cloud to be able to defeat him in the first place. The opening of Ever Crisis even shows him standing up to Sephiroth, withstanding the Octaslash and landing his own Chain Slash that left Sephiroth reeling, whereas Cloud was easily defeated. Indeed, Rebirth has Sephiroth clearly trying to remove Zack from the equation as soon as possible and even attacking him across dimensions in his monstrous form in an attempt to get rid of him (which he defeats with some help implied to be from Aerith, whereas it took five members of the party working together to defeat him on their side, though the fact that they have two phases shows Sephiroth put more emphasis on that front), showing that even at his most arrogant, Sephiroth still saw Zack as a credible threat to himself. His last act was to take out hundreds of Shinra's goons, leaving only three, and in Remake he even defeats them all and survives! After which, Rebirth shows he still has more than enough strength to take out an entire platoon of Shinra's warriors to save Aerith after he's dragged Cloud all the way to Midgar. Overall, with Sephiroth hardly even able to be considered a human anymore, Zack is possibly the mightiest human in the series, both enhanced and unenhanced.
    • Tifa Lockhart likely takes the title of strongest unempowered (or not) character and female character in FFVII. Her world-traveled mentor Zangan considers her his top student out of over a hundred and her massive physical strength has Tifa able to pick up and piledrive the humongous Ancient Weapons of the Planet like they're toys. During the Fastball Special against in Bahamut SIN in Advent Children, her contributing throw for Cloud is shown to be far more effective than any others. In the fight with Sephiroth himself in Remake, her response is to straight-up somersault kick the guy, sending him flying and giving the others pivotal time to get up. The Remake continuity additionally shows that Tifa has impressive Ki Manipulation, making her powerful enough to be directly comparable to the Lifestream- and Mako-empowered Sephiroth and Cloud in terms of strength and power.
  • God of War:
    • Kratos is likely the strongest being in both the Greek and Norse Era's; if there was anything or anyone else stronger than him in Greece, it's because he wasn't there to kill it. He starts off a powerhouse, and then powers up exponentially throughout the series, reaching levels to where he can overpower and kill members of the Greek Pantheon and Titans, at times even with his bare hands. He has even been able to defeat Thanatos himself, the Primordial God of Death! Granted, Thanatos did nearly win, and he ended up killing Deimos, who previously defeated him only because Kratos allowed him to, but when Kratos unleashed all his power, he ends up being the victor.
      • After moving to Midgard in the PS4 installment, it's clear he's still one of the strongest, if not the strongest being there, Word of God even confirming he's actually even more powerful than his Greece self. The developers confirmed that they had to restrain his abilities here because he is taking care of his son, placing the burden of having to hide his powers as he doesn't want Atreus to know he is a god, and if he were to be allowed to use his full power during regular gameplay, the game would be too easy. Even with such restrictions, he is still easily capable of dispatching scores of normal creatures, both with his weapons and using his bare hands to physically rip them apart. Not even the Aesir Gods can stop him: He easily takes on Magni and Modi with hardly any help from Atreus, who spends most of the time in the fight being The Load due to him being emotionally provoked and riled up by the two, and once he has had enough and Atreus is in danger, he kills Magni in a matter of moments, and after Modi got over his fear and tried to cowardly sneak up on and electrocute him with lightning, it doesn't do much but irritate Kratos and once he gets loose upon Atreus succumbing to his illness, he instantly beats him down. Not even Baldur with his invulnerability proved enough to stop the former God-Killer: In their first fight, Kratos murders him three times, despite Baldur having the advantage of being able to swiftly resurrect with no harm done, not feeling any pain or exhaustion, and even with Atreus being more of a burden than a help in their subsequent scuffles, Kratos still proves more than a match for Baldur and eventually kills him by snapping his neck. Even the Top God of the Aesir, Odin, is afraid of him by the end where he is confirmed to be a participant of Ragnarok, and avoids a straight confrontation with him the best he could until the end of Ragnarok, even threatening him with Atreus's life despite how important Atreus as Loki is to his greater goals, only being willing to fight him when he was already worn out from the relentless battles of Ragnarok, and even then Kratos still puts up a good fight against the All-Father and manages to repeatedly man-handle him before ultimately beating him with help from Freya and Atreus. Even while being in a weakened state from hours of pursuing Atreus without a rest and not having the full extent of his arsenal, he still keeps up with Thor, the infamous God of Thunder and Strength and the second most powerful of the Aesir, if not the physically strongest, before eventually ending the fight in a stalemate by breaking out of Thor's grip as soon as he provokes Kratos too much and then punching him hard enough to knock his teeth off, and when they fight it out for real in Ragnarok, Kratos at a similar condition to Thor ultimately proves stronger, disarming him in a physical clash of their weapons and man-handling him.
      • Yet another testament to Kratos's overwhelming power is that, in Valhalla, through the sheer strength of his memories manifesting in Valhalla, Kratos was able to manifest the Blade of Olympus as one of his rage modes. To compare, Zeus needed a noticeable amount of time to create the Blade and was using the elements of the heavens and the earth to do so, but Kratos was able to manifest it instantly. In fact, this particular form of rage is the most stable and powerful form yet, showing how Kratos is so powerful that even the power to end a war between god-like beings is both within his grasp AND easily accessable.
    • Given Kratos has become something of a nomadic god, each separate world can be said to have their own unique strongest being, and appropriately, it's their Top Gods, Zeus and Odin. Kratos' battles against them are some of the toughest he's ever had, even with his ability to almost casually slay other gods, and their might isn't all fluff, as they are both superior to beings who are pretty much embody their worlds, such as Gaia and Ymir, respectively.
      • As for if one is stronger than the other, Ragnarok's developers describe Odin as Kratos' most formidable opponent yet, although this doesn't necessarily make Odin stronger than Zeus; from what is seen, this declaration could very well be because of Odin's intelligence and ability to manipulate others, which creates a great deal of strife in Kratos' attempts to protect the Nine Realms and his allies. Another developer's comment, by Bruno Velazquez, implies that a battle between Zeus and Odin is a rather debatable affair, especially since he also believes Zeus could best Thor and guides imply that Thor is possibly the physically strongest Norse god. At the very least, Odin appears to make better use of magic in combat than Zeus does, but even then, Zeus knows how to use his more esoteric powers - cloning, power draining, weapon creation - very well. Lastly, Zeus' astral projection, whatever it exactly was, could outright destroy godly weapons, which is something Odin has never proven himself, although he is said to be able to enchant items to withstand such weapons.
    • As for the title of the strongest woman in the series, Freya, the Queen of the Valkyries, almost certainly has the strongest claim, being far more powerful than any other Goddess seen thus far. Mimir has stated that she was the most powerful threat to Odin, which considering his countless enemies is saying a lot, and even the Superboss of the 2018 game, Sigrun, states that while she might be Freya's replacement, she is still inferior compared to the true Queen of Valkyries. Her showing in Ragnarok all but confirms this as she displays immense power in both the magical and physical sense, making her a threat that could pose a serious threat even to Kratos, albeit granted Kratos had held back the entire time, but he still admits he could imagine no more formidable ally than Freya. The only other woman who could contest her for the title would be Faye AKA Laufey the Just, Kratos's second wife and perhaps the strongest woman giant in the Norse Realm who could fight on par with Thor and hold her own against Kratos to a stalemate, who has long since died before her introduction to the series, making her the current unquestionable strongest woman character in the series. With Odin and Thor dead, Freya would also rank as the second most powerful divine being in Norse as well, surpassed only by Kratos himself.
  • Magnus from Kid Icarus: Uprising is a very muscular human with a sword almost as large as his body (when Pit uses it, the game classifies it as a club) and able to easily hold his own against The Underworld Army and Palutena's Army on his own when almost every other human gets slaughtered or in the case of his friend Gaol, uses a suit of magical armor to level the playing field. When Pit first meets Magnus, he questions whether he's even human.
  • In Killer Instinct, Tyler-Johnson "T.J Combo" Garrett is considered by Ultratech to be the greatest human fighter in the world. You could make the argument that Black Orchid is better due to the fact she has killed a God before, but she has magic powers; T.J fights in a tournament with an alien, a cybernetic killing machine, a genetically engineered dinosaur, a skeletal warrior, and a man who is made of fire with only his fists.
  • Kingdom Hearts:
    • Mickey Mouse is all but confirmed to be the strongest Keyblade Master on the side of the light. Word of God specifically notes that he was the strongest character in the first game, Yen Sid outright states Mickey is stronger than Sora and Riku, and later installments show he is still stronger than any other hero, being generally held in high regard by all of them and even earning the respect of Xehanort himself. He is the primary One-Man Army and The Worf Effect comparisons among the heroes, with an uncanny work style that has him primarily act alone and handle himself well whereas Sora and the others would need teamwork, being able to one-shot powerful Heartlesses and Nobodies that give many other characters trouble and storm entire castles of such enemies without a scratch. Kingdom Hearts II even turns this status into a gameplay mechanic, with Mickey having the potential to mow down some of the strongest bosses and make it easy for Sora to finish the fight, along with being among the strongest allies who can aid Sora in battle. In Kingdom Hearts coded, Mickey proves able to easily weaken the data of Sora's Heartless that had been beating down Data Sora. Even in Kingdom Hearts III, Mickey's superior strength is still evident: He is able to force the Demon Tide to flee by himself after it had knocked out Riku; is able to fight Xemnas, Larxene, Marluxia, and Luxord by himself for quite some time; and after he, Sora, and Riku defeated Ansem, Xemnas, and Young Xehanort, he is the only one who is strong enough to push back Master Xehanort a bit using his Ultima spell before Xehanort's Stopza spell overpowers it. Taken further in the Re:Mind DLC, where when pushed and left alone against 13 Replica Xehanorts, Mickey displays what he is fully capable of and singlehandedly defeats all of them!
    • Master Xehanort is stated to have been the most powerful Keyblade Wielder of them all according to his character file in III, and even in his old age he can still give powerful Keyblade Master-level opponents a good run for their money, thanks to combination of immense strength and a nearly unrivaled command of magic. In Birth by Sleep, he leaves the World of Departure in complete ruins with a single spell, can overpower Terra (the physically strongest member of the Wayfinder Trio) in direct battle, and was able to grab and lift Ventus with one hand, crushing his armored helmet and then freezing Ventus solid with an ice spell. In III, Xehanort casts a Stopza spell to repel and overpower Mickey's Ultima spell during the climax of the second Keyblade War (though Mickey wasn't at his full strength as he was worn out after repeated battles). He later absorbs his Replicas into himself and is able to manipulate the structure of Scala ad Caelum at will, then wields both the legendary χ-blade and the power of Kingdom Hearts in his final battle against Sora, resulting in a Near-Villain Victory that's only thwarted when Donald and Goofy bring Sora back from the brink and help him triumph over Xehanort.
    • Ansem, Seeker of Darkness, is the most powerful Heartless in the series. He has the power to control other Heartless and he's one of the rare Heartless that has retained both his form and his intelligence. Ansem can manipulate darkness into different weapons and use his Guardian to help him in combat, as well as transform into two different One-Winged Angel forms in I and Dream Drop Distance to become stronger. Even without his Guardian can he still give Keyblade Wielders a tough fight.
    • Xemnas is the original and most powerful of all the Nobodies as well as the strongest member of the original Organization XIII. He has the Power of the Void, most commonly manifested in the form of his personal weapons called Ethereal Blades, nothingness molded into the form of Laser Blades that can also be fired as projectiles. He can even use this power to turn members of the Organization into Dusks if he so wishes. It's telling that Marluxia, the second strongest member of the Organization with his own slew of powerful abilities, wanted to bring Roxas (Sora's Nobody and the third strongest member at full power) into the fold before openly rebelling against Xemnas. After merging with his damaged artificial Kingdom Hearts, Xemnas' powers increased to the point where he could manipulate The World That Never Was, and in his final form, he could easily hold his own against Sora and Riku before he was finally taken down, nearly extracting Sora's heart from his body at one point and then damaging Riku's leg when he intercepted another attempted deathblow on Sora. According to Tetsuya Nomura, Xemnas was the strongest being in the setting after his merger with Kingdom Hearts.
    • A meta example: Donald Duck of all characters ended up becoming perhaps the most powerful mage in the series through his ability to cast Zettaflare unassisted, a feat only matched by godlike entities in other Square Enix titles. While the move does exhaust him considerably, and it's ambiguous if he is even alive after that, it's still a shockingly impressive feat from the least likely of characters, with the implication that he's done this at least once before.
    • The real strongest Keyblade Master and character would most certainly be the Master of Masters. Though little is known about him and he hasn't been seen fighting yet, the Foretellers and Luxu, extremely strong Keyblade Masters in their own right, all acknowledge he is on another level and that he has the power to forcibly stop all of them.
  • Starting with his "first" appearance in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Ganondorf has been fairly consistently portrayed as this in the world of The Legend of Zelda. A brutal Magic Knight as a thief, he has become the destined bearer of the Triforce of Power, which literally imbues him with inexhaustible strength and magical power. The most prominent portrayal of this aspect is his first appearance in Hyrule Warriors: Ganondorf appears in the newly conquered Temple of Souls on his own with a fairly small army of stalkids at his back. Facing him is the united army of Hyrule; a huge army of Hylian soldiers led by Zelda, Impa, Darunia, Ruto, Midna, Agitha, Fi, and Link with the unleashed Master Sword. The Hylian reaction? A massive Oh, Crap! followed by every single one of them fleeing for their lives! In the following chapter, Ganondorf amasses an army to defeat Hyrule by marching into the Gerudo Desert and beating down every single monster there, defeating three giant beasts in order to further intimidate them into swearing loyalty to him. The gap between him and everyone else is so great that he is always the chosen wielder of the Triforce of Power, showing that even an instrument of the creator gods must acknowledge that his strength is supreme in the mortal world.
  • Like a Dragon:
    • The most prominent and dominant contender for the title of the strongest in the entire series would be Kazuma Kiryu, the legendary Dragon of Dojima, which is only further augmented by the fact that he is also the most skilled fighter. The infamously deadly Amon Clan specifically consider him to be the "ultimate lifeform" after he repeatedly proves too strong despite their usage of many deadly technology and being extremely strong fighters in their own right, not only casually besting the Amon siblings, but also being particularly despised yet also acknowledged by Jo Amon, the leader of the clan. Be it strength, resilience, and speed, Kiryu easily displays the greatest amount of physical power: He is capable of curb-stomping dozens of enemies, going as far as to take out buildings and 100 Tojo Clan members while hardly breaking a sweat, can readily handle dangerous real beasts without much effort, and being bitten and attacked by them doesn't do much. Bullets are also of little threat to him, as he can easily react to them with his body and even if he does get shot, he can shrug off explosions caused by missiles and has survived repeated lethal shots to the end. He is also able to overpower some of the most formidable fighters of the underworld, including legendary individuals and strong fighters in charge, most prominent examples including the likes of Ryuji Goda, who happens to also have the nickname of the Dragon of Kansai, meaning Kiryu, after having also handily defeated Keiji Shibusawa, is the "true dragon", Akira Nishikiyama and Masato Aizawa, despite fighting the latter two Koi tattooed Yakuza in a weakened state and their dedication to acquiring the strength to defeat him having made them rigorously train themselves, Daigo Dojima and Masaru Watase, the reigning heads of Tojo and Omi, with the former straight up admitting he was no match for him, and regularly defeats Goro Majima, a fellow yakuza legend with the title of the Mad Dog of Shimano. Even after his time has passed and he's in his 50s, Kiryu's strength is still prominent and overwhelming, as displayed when he quite casually handles Kasuga Ichiban, a rising dragon in his own right, and his group, imagined to be so powerful that he was like a real dragon, and when he is summoned as an ally, his strength can create a large dragon and slam it at the target to be among the most powerful attacks available.
    • The other candidate is Taiga Saejima. He has no legendary title unlike Kiryu or his sworn brother Majima and his "legendary act" was done by surprise and using a gun rather than physical prowess... But even so, he quickly establishes himself as the most physically powerful character, with all his moves capitalizing on his insanely overwhelming strength and physical resilience, along with having the sufficient speed, even if he isn't particularly reliant on acrobatics or agility. Saejima's abilities as a playable character have him accomplishing feats that not only rival Kiryu, but also at times even exceed his, such as picking up vehicles and slamming them on others, stopping a speeding car to move out of the way, ripping off extremely thick objects and swinging and using them against enemies with ease, and even slamming the ground with enough force to cause a shockwave as well as being able to grab heavyset sumo enemies that can push aside even Kiryu. Story-wise, he is the only fighter thus far who is capable of reaching an actual stalemate with Kiryu in a fair, all-out battle, keeping up with him pretty well in their first fight despite being injured, and reaching a Double Knockout in their second fight. The only time where Kiryu can defeat him is the Victory Road Tournament Finals, which is of dubious canonicity. Overall, while who is truly more powerful cannot be accurately estimated, Saejima can still reliably be considered the only person who can contest Kiryu's spot as the strongest character in the series. Likewise to Kiryu, he's defeated an Amon Clan member and does it without breaking much of a sweat, and he's won against Majima in all their fights as well. During a fight against Kasuga Ichiban and his group, with him and Majima working together, while both were holding back, Saejima is shown to be visibly less affected by the fight and even confidently states he'll get serious, indicating like Kiryu, he could have wiped the floor with them without much effort either. As a poundmate, Saejima, like Kiryu, can actually induce a disaster-like attack with sheer power alone, causing a huge cyclone just by spinning a metal object.
  • LISA: The Painful RPG:
    • Buzzo. You can try to fight him to avoid giving up an arm or a party member, but he is completely invincible and will "wreck"note  your entire party in one turn. It is possible to use poison to beat him through a Good Bad Bug, but that will just cause a Non-Standard Game Over — canonically, he can't be touched. It speaks volumes that Brad is able to fight against a man who could take a motorcycle to the back without flinching, yet Buzzo is a Hopeless Boss Fight.
    • Played for Laughs with Demon X, who at first seems like a joke. Fighting him reveals that he's invincible like Buzzo, instantly chopping your entire party, and giving you a Nonstandard Game Over if you exploit poison to kill him. In spite of this, he's outsmarted when the Salvation Rangers go in to a door that the horns in his costume can't fit through. He later figures out how to get around the door by turning himself. Namely, by tilting his head so that his horns go straight up and down.
  • Dekar in Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals boasts himself to be the world's strongest warrior (which he actually is). The remake makes him a Jack of All Stats Multi-Melee Master, but he's still awesome and possesses the attack with the highest multi-target damage potential in the game.
  • Mass Effect: Andromeda: Humanity has only had biotics for a generation and some spare change, so not only are human biotics exceptionally rare, but they're pretty weak compared to the other species that have them. Cora Harper is the most powerful human biotic in existence, to the point that she was able to toss cars around even without a biotic amplifier. She ended up being not-quite thrown out of the human military because she was simply too powerful for them to deal with, and was sent to join the asari huntresses. The huntresses are the greatest biotics in the galaxy (every asari is a biotic, and the huntresses are their elite units), but Cora was able to keep up with them, and graduated from their training with honors.
  • Mega Man:
    • From the classic timeline, there's Duo, an intergalactic police officer of nearly planet-busting levels of power whose presence trivializes pretty much every threat in Mega Man 8, complete with an opening scene where he's halfway responsible for vaporizing part of Saturn. Naturally, the game continually finds ways to write him out of the plot so that he doesn't wrap up the conflict in minutes. If that wasn't enough, Duo himself may very well be a Normal Fish in a Tiny Pond; no other members of his organization are seen (with Duo's position in its hierarchy unknown), and the evil robot he clashes with at the start of the game is just about his equal, able to both visibly injure Duo (a feat only matched by that game's Wily Machine courtesy of a Wave-Motion Gun powered by an energy source originating from said robot) and deal enough damage to him that it takes half the game for Dr. Light to finish repairing Duo after he crash-lands on Earth.
    • As far as 20XX is concerned...
      • It's always been a toss-up between X and Zero, the former being the Super Prototype of all Reploids and ultimate creation of Dr. Light, the latter being the ultimate creation of Dr. Wily. Even as X has continuously grown into using his power and surpassed all expectations to become a warrior capable of taking on and defeating planet-destroying threats, Zero has repeatedly shown himself to be the only one capable of equaling and even surpassing each benchmark X set. Notably, their fated battle in Mega Man X5 ends in a Double Knockout regardless of the circumstances (which, in one non-canon scenario, involves Zero being reawakened to his true nature by The Virus).
      • Sigma was this briefly, being the most powerful and advanced Reploid of his time as expected of his position as leader of the Maverick Hunters at a time when X was still in his Reluctant Warrior phase unwilling to reach his full potential. He was even strong enough to fight evenly with an Ax-Crazy Zero, though he made the mistake of not taking Zero seriously until the latter got the edge and beat him to near-death and only won via well-timed distraction. After that and his infection/merging with the Maverick Virus, Sigma would go on to constantly have new battle bodies made and tested that would repeatedly prove themselves a match for X and Zero even at their best, though as his mind and sanity degraded from repeated failures and resurrections he lost this status and became more feared solely for his raw power than the fearsome intellect he paired with it.
      • High Max was a definite attempt to be this, designed by Gate with on-paper superior specs to both X and Zero which he proudly boasts about. While the first fight with X lends credence to it, by the end of the game both X and Zero decisively prove him wrong when they destroy him.
    • By the time of Mega Man Zero, the most powerful Reploid on the planet is Omega, a destroyer who caused a planet-wide war and disaster that the world hadn't fully recovered from even a century later, and who it took X and Zero who despite being in an inferior copy body still had all his skills and experience post-X series to just defeat, not kill him. The irony, of course, being Omega is Zero's original body upgraded to its full potential as a pure killing machine, so it seems Zero was always the true World's Strongest Man between himself and X—though the power X wields as a Cyber-elf despite only being 1/5 of his original existence (the other four parts of his soul being used to the create the Guardians mentioned below, while his body served as the seal on the Dark Elf until the end of Z2) calls this into question. When he reappears in the present, he defeats two of the Four Guardians (Reploids made with X's DNA who are at least near the same level as him) on his own at his weakest, and at his full power it takes Zero and the surviving three Guardians just to whittle him down, and he still would have pulled through were it not for the Dark Elf overcoming its own brainwashing to turn back into the Mother Elf and negate Omega's Healing Factor.
    • By the time of Mega Man ZX, it's basically the goal of The Chosen Many in the Game of Destiny to solidify themselves as this in order to become the Mega Man King and receive the power of Model W, but for specifics...
      • By the end of ZX, Vent/Aile have in their possession Biometal Models X, Z, H, L, F, and P and the ability to switch between them on the fly. Due to how these Biometals were made by Ciel, who created a physically perfect copy of X in her teens, this means they possess the powers of X, Zero, and the Four Guardians at their beck and call. Their feats back this up, as they defeat Prometheus and Pandora (who have centuries of battle experience under their belt), Serpent (who has his own Biometal Model W and further merges with a Model W Core that absorbed hundreds if not thousands of Cyber Elves to power up), and Omega Zero (albeit in a questionably canonical scenario). In Advent, despite only using Model ZX, they fight the Model A Mega Man (who possessed five Pseudoroid and four Mega Man forms on top of their normal Mega Man transformation) rather evenly and take on all four enemy Mega Men (who were using the stolen Four Guardian Biometals) to a standstill during the endgame, going strong the whole time.
      • Master Albert sought to become this in order to fulfill his plan to Restart the World, merging all the Model W Cores into the ultimate Biometal Ouroboros and Megamerging with it at the end of Advent. According to Albert, as the Mega Man King he's both the Ultimate Life Form and a god, possessing the power to assimilate all life on the planet and wielding their powers at his beck and call in order to remake it as he sees fit.
      • The biggest contenders of all would be the Model A Mega Man Grey/Ashe in Advent, who thanks to their A-Trans letting them gain the powers of their foes manage to defeat the enemy Four Guardian Mega Men, Model ZX Aile/Vent, Prometheus and Pandora, and ultimately even Albert himself despite him possessing the superior A-Trans of Model W and Ouroboros with its world-rending power, along with Model A being just a pale imitation of Model W's full strength by Albert's own design.
    • Mega Man Battle Network (an Alternate Timeline to the main continuity) has three contenders for the title in MegaMan.EXE, Bass.EXE, and Serenade.EXE, with a possible fourth in Colonel.EXE.
  • The Metal Gear series gives us two strong contenders for the setting: Senator Steven Armstrong and The Man on Fire.
  • Mortal Kombat:
    • Originally Liu Kang was The 'Verse's strongest man, becoming Champion in every single Mortal Kombat Tournament he fought in. He's defeated the Evil Sorcerer Tsung Shang, the four-armed Shokan Goro, and even punched a hole straight through Shao Kahn (see below). Liu Kang being so ridiculously strong also ends up becoming a major issue when he dies at the hands of the Deadly Alliance (Shang Tsung and Quan Chi, who have to resort to trickery and foul play to kill him; the game's intro shows Liu Kang dominating them in a straight fight) and — in a different timeline — is inadvertently killed by Raiden and comes back as one of Quan Chi's undead revenants. Mortal Kombat 11 plays it straighter again as Liu Kang becomes a Fire God via a Fusion Dance with Raiden and delivers a Curb-Stomp Battle to Kronika, the goddess of time who turns out to have always feared him and Raiden — hence her manipulation of time inevitably putting the two at odds some way or another. In the end, Fire God Liu Kang takes over for Raiden and undoes Kronika's tampering with the sands of time by wiping the universe's slate clean.
    • Shao Kahn the Conqueror is stronger than Raiden, with the only time Raiden's ever beaten him was when amped up by the Powers That Be for the finale of MK9 — something that the Elder Gods only decided to intervene in at the last minute because Shao Kahn did not merge the realms he invaded and conquered in accordance with their laws. However, it's established that Raiden, as Earthrealm's protector, is at his strongest when on his home turf, which he's usually drawn away from for the final battles of most games. Deception also implies that Shao Kahn once held a similar title to Raiden in Outworld, which would account for his power. In short, he's managed to stay Emperor for good reason, though Deception threw a major wrench into the works by introducing Onaga, who pulled Eviler than Thou on every other villain up to that point and was the previous Emperor of Outworld until Shao Kahn, then an advisor/subordinate to the Dragon King, backstabbed him. Even so, Shao Kahn would go on to become the winner of the Battle of Armageddon and receive godlike power in the process, a result that led to Dark Raiden reaching out to his younger self (and setting off the events of the reboot) in the first place.
    • Jax Briggs can be considered the physically strongest kombatant from Earthrealm, even before his enhancements. He still can't match the inhuman strength of bosses like Shao Kahn due to to their unnatural powers. In Mortal Kombat X, Jax even defeats Liu Kang, though it's implied Liu Kang's loss was part of Quan Chi's plan.
    • Sindel is the most powerful female of Mortal Kombat (particularly for her magical prowess, which completely kept Shao Kahn out of Earthrealm until he revived her in MK3), while her bodyguard Sheeva is the physically strongest. Sindel also has the highest body count canonically, since she kills half the cast in MK9, albeit only after receiving one hell of a power-up from Shao Kahn beforehand in the form of all the souls housed within Shang Tsung's body.
    • Surprisingly, Johnny Cage of all people becomes the strongest male kombatant by the time of MKX. At the start of the game, two years after the end of the previous game, Johnny kicks Scorpion and Sub-Zero's asses simultaneously before defeating the aforementioned Jax as an evil undead revenant. But that's nothing compared to when Johnny manages to hand the Fallen Elder God Shinnok's ass to him a sliver platter, due to Johnny using The Power of Love to protect Sonya from Shinnok and unlocking his inner power in the process. NetherRealm Studios foreshadowed this development in Johnny's MK9 bio and Arcade Ladder ending, where it's established he's descended from an ancient Mediterranean cult that bred warriors with might surpassing that of ordinary mortals — a status he surely lives up to in X.
    • At the end of MKX, Johnny's daughter Cassie inherits his power and also beats Shinnok (in his One-Winged Angel form after corrupting and absorbing Earthrealm's Jinsei), therefore giving her a stake on the claim of strongest female character.
  • Neptunia, due to being a series with multiple Physical Gods, has two top contenders for this role, both of whom have the distinction of The Older Immortal.
  • Zarya, Overwatch's resident Brawn Hilda/Husky Russkie, is the World's Strongest Woman. Mother Russia Makes You Strong, after all. She is an Olympic-grade weightlifter with a personal record of 512 kilograms, or 1,130 pounds.
  • Aya Brea, the protagionist of Parasite Eve. Thanks to her own mutated Mitochondria she's able to overpower and kill the Big Bad Mitochondria Eve who's a Humanoid Abomination Person of Mass Destruction with powers akin to a Final Fantasy villain (fitting given it's the same developer). After that then Aya defeats the child Eve gave birth to, who is expilctly reffered to as the Ultimate Life Form (admittedly needing to blow up the ship they were fighting on to finish it off). In The Very Definitely Final Dungeon, Aya defeats the Hidden Villain Truebred Eve who is possesing Aya sister Maya's highly evolved body and thanks to Maya's consciousness able to resist Truebred Eve taking over her now greater evolved body. This all makes Aya pratically a Physical God within her science-based universe, very impressive given Aya besides her genetic superpowers is otherwise just a regular New York cop with good marksmanship skills. The regular and spooky ending of the game has Aya display immense powers same as Eve once the Mitochondria in her body takes over.
  • In Planescape: Torment, reaching the maximum 25 points in the Strength stat will make you "one of the strongest men in the Multiverse". Vhailor can also become this if you resurrect him for the final battle against The Transcendent One.
  • Pokémon has Mewtwo. A man-made Pokémon cloned from Mew, it is called the most powerful Pokémon in the world thanks to its vast psychic powers. In Gen I and Gen II, its offences were unparalleled. If that wasn't enough, its Mega Evolutions give Mewtwo a higher stat total than Arceus (and therefore all the other Pokémon, only matched by Mega Rayquaza and only outright surpassed by the unobtainable Eternatus Eternamax) and the highest base Special Attack (Y) and Attack (X) stats of all Pokémon.
  • [PROTOTYPE]:
    • Alex Mercer is clearly the strongest man in his universe. At least, until the sequel... He can throw a destroyed helicopter at another helicopter with ease.
    • There are references in both games to... something known only as Pariah which according to the web of intrigue is like Mercer, only even stronger and harder to kill.
  • Resident Evil:
  • Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic has Revan, who is both the strongest Jedi and Sith of his era. He studied both the light and dark sides of the Force and was able to channel them simultaneously, easily able to defeat his opponents with little effort.
  • Star Wars: The Old Republic has the respective leaders of the Jedi Order and the Sith Empire.
    • Satele Shan being the Grand Master of the Jedi Order and a descendant of Revan, the remarkably powerful Jedi-Turned-Sith-Turned-Jedi, Satele is likely the most powerful Jedi alive by the events of the game. Besides, you'd pretty much have to be the strongest to even qualify to make Grand Master. Eventually she loses this distinction to the Jedi Knight or Consular, who become more powerful than her towards the end of their class quests.
    • Emperor Vitiate is the most powerful Force user of his time and one of the most powerful of all time, possibly only surpassed by Dark Empire Palpatine who was born over 3,000 years after his death (a source of debate among fans).
  • Street Fighter:
  • Duke in Tales of Vesperia was heralded as a hero in the war against the Entelexeia, beings that could wipe out entire towns single-handed.
  • Tekken:
    • The title probably goes to Craig Marduk. In his (non-canon) ending in Tekken 5, he's shown performing feats of strength such as grabbing all the ropes on a side of a boxing ring and simultaneously pulling them until they snap and punching one of the corner posts so hard it bends around his fist. One of his intros in 7, on the other hand, has him lifting up and tossing a SUV. The only characters in the series shown to exceed these feats were either supernatural beings or combat robots built for extreme strength, while Craig is a normal human.
    • Another contender for the title of strongest mortal man in Tekken is Heihachi, who lacks the demonic powers and/or supernatural sensitivity of the other Mishima family members. Yet Heihachi can catch a hatchet/bullet with his teeth, survive humongous explosions at point-blank range (as well as being flung miles away and crash-landing into rubble), and even overpower his Devil-powered son and grandson and wife. True, he was ultimately killed by his son Kazuya but only after he had beat his son out of his One-Winged Angel form and forced Kazuya to fight normally. He also survived Akuma's Raging Demon, which usually spells certain death for its victims, possibly implying Heihachi was already weakened during his final battle with Kazuya.
    • Kazuya Mishima, after killing Heihachi, claims the title for himself, during his final fight against his father, he unlocks his new Devil form in order to defeat Heihachi. Even when he was tired out after fighting his father, he still had enough power to fight and possibly defeat Akuma. In Tekken 8 Kazuya gets even stronger, rather easily defeating Azazel the harbinger of the Devil Gene and absorbing him to become as powerful as possible. With this true devil form Kazuya curb stomps pretty much the entire cast and it takes an 11th-Hour Superpower in the form of Jin’s Next Tier Power-Up Angel Jin gifted by Jun for him to decidedly match his father and manages to clense the Devil Gene from both of them. However even when Brought Down to Normal Kazuya still largely dominates Jin and the latter has to fall back upon his Determinator resources to finally defeat his father and take this title from him.
    • Paul Phoinex’s Character Catchphrase is that he’s ”The Strongest in the Universe” and while on the surface it’s meant to be an empty boost especially since Paul is The Chew Toy among the cast he’s actually a genuine contender for the title — and is only rivalled by Heihachi and Jun when it comes to being the strongest non-Devil powered character! In Tekken 1 Paul could explicitly stalemate Kazuya and while he did lose their rematch in Tekken 2 it was only after a match that “lasted hours”. In Tekken 3 Paul went undefeated the entire tournament and actually beat “God of Fighting” Ancient Ogre whom almost killed a fighter as powerful as Jun, the only reason why Paul didn’t win the tournament outright is because Ancient Ogre went One-Winged Angel into True Ogre after he left Ogre’s temple. In later games a lack of training, being barred from the main plot and being fully reduced to a comic relief Butt-Monkey prevents Paul from the chance to give Mishimas a run for their money again, even though it’s confirmed he has to potential to fight at their level. Especially now that neither Kazuya or Jin have the Devil Gene.
    • Jun Kazama is easily the strongest woman in The 'Verse and while there’s technically more actively dangerous women like Nina and Anna they’re still leagues below Jun in terms of power. Her feats include beating Kazuya’s disembodied Devil Gene and as Tekken 8 she managed to defeat Ogre (though the strain of it did put her in a Convenient Coma for years). Pretty much the only two female fighters who rival Jun sheer power are the late Kazumi and newcomer Reina due to their Devil power, but the latter is still unlikely to win a fight against Jun due to the latter’s Holy Hand Grenade powers. According to Word of God even her Animal Lover status is also meant to reflect Jun’s prowess, as she has enough control of her aura not to scare the animals away from her.
  • Lara Croft from Tomb Raider is likely the strongest woman in her world considering she can move blocks of Egyptian stone like featherweights and blow up a helicopter with one throw of her pickaxe.
  • Touhou Project:
    • Yuugi Hoshiguma. Oni are already feared and respected by everyone, from youkai to celestials, for the freakish strength they have that allows them to tear the sky and mountains apart with barely any effort. Among the oni, The Big Four of the Mountain are particularly infamous for their power, and among the four, Yuugi the Strong is known for her physical strength.
    • The two strongest contenders for the Strongest Woman of Gensokyo title, however, are the Youkai of Boundaries, Yukari Yakumo, who's borderline omnipotent within the realm, and Yuuka Kazami, the Youkai of Flowers, who despite not having a fancy special ability like Yukari does, compensates with pure, raw power. Youkai get Stronger with Age. Yukari's age is undetermined, and all that's known of Yuuka is that she might as well be a Time Abyss.
    • Cirno proudly boasts of being "the strongest," sometimes adding "fairy." The problem is that Touhou fairies are idiot Mooks; while Cirno is indubitably the strongest and probably one of the smartest amongst them, she's still mentally an eight-year-old at most, and while she can be very dangerous, as seen in Fairy Wars, she's too easily distracted to ever act on her true power.
    • Even then there's the Lampad/Hell fairy, Clownpiece, who is, frankly speaking, strong, so Cirno is just the strongest fairy in Gensokyo, anyway... and even that might not hold water any longer seeing as Clownpiece recently moved to Gensokyo.
  • Trails Series:
    • While many characters could apply, few can compare to McBurn, an Enforcer of Ouroboros and one of the strongest characters in the setting, to the point that most of the time the protagonists fight him, it's either a Heads I Win, Tails You Lose situation, or they actually manage to put up a fight, and in that case... he actually gets serious. In fact, part of his motivation for working with Ouroboros is to find someone that can actually give him a challenge.
    • Arianhrod, the Steel Maiden, a female Knight in Shining Armor and Anguis of Ourobors more than capable of overpowering any opponent with her massive lance. To put it into perspective, she's stated to be able to fight McBurn to a standstill, and she already has. It helps that she's an immortal Awakener.
  • Twisted Wonderland: Malleus Draconia is hailed as the world's most powerful magician due to his powers, which is why he's often feared by people around him. Do note that he's based on the Mistress of All Evil herself.
  • World of Warcraft: Kerri Hicks at the Darkmoon Faire is the World's Strongest Woman. (Well, that's her title at least, and being a circus performer, it may not be entirely accurate.)
  • Xenoblade Chronicles 2:
    • Mythra is the true power of the legendary Aegis and gives a Curb-Stomp Battle to almost everyone until Chapter 6 where Jin shows his true form. It's stated that she has the power to blow three titan continents away (which isn't an exaggeration). She's so strong that Fan La Nore could only weaken Mythra, rather than completely disable her power. She can also wield the element of light. In gameplay terms, she's a Purposely Overpowered Game-Breaker that is generally considered the best playable Blade in the game (although this isn't the case after the DLC due to some of the Blades you get through the DLC Challenge Battle Pack, as well as Poppi QT Pi).
    • Jin is the strongest Blade in Torna and has the power to manipulate Elementary Particles, meaning he can go faster than the speed of light which makes all of Mythra's powers completely worthless including Foresight and Siren's Particle Cannon. Rex gets absolutely destroyed by him in a matter of minutes and he's able to break Mythra's sword! It's only when Rex gets a new power-up (Pneuma, which is the combined power of Mythra and Pyra) that Jin is able to be defeated.
    • Malos, who is second-in-command of Torna, is an Aegis like Pyra/Mythra, thus making him equal in power to them (and by extension Pneuma) and far more powerful than Jin, he can manipulate the power of darkness as that is his element, wields an Aegis sword that resembles the Monado and he’s also powerful enough to destroy matter itself. As the Final Boss of the game he controls the most powerful artifice Aion, which has the power to destroy all of Alrest.
    • Zenobia is a Physical Goddess and as such is very strong indeed. In story terms she's so strong that every Unique Monster falls to her easily, leaving her completely bored. When she finally has a Worthy Opponent to fight, she reveals that she was never taking the fight seriously until the very end. She admits, however, that she would never be able to defeat Mythra due to Mythra being more skilled.
