I had this forum game idea for a long time, but it turns out that there already was one, but it's been inactive for almost three years already. So if anyone doesn't mind me reviving this game, here are the rules:

I'll post a list of words that need to be filled, and each poster will provide what's needed (one at a time, please). Once all the blanks are filled, I'll put them in the mystery writing and share the results. Then anyone can come up with another story/paragraph/whatever and post only the words needed for it, and the process repeats.

The mad lib is coming soon, figured I'd mention some things first as I don't want this to be a distraction in the same post as the mad lib. First is that I'm playing this particular tale for mostly Rule of Cool rather than Rule of Funny as who wouldn't want to see a worthwhile fight? Second is that I was originally going to have the whole tale be in the same round, but then I realized that it wouldn't leave much room to describe the fights and thus I feel it's best to split it into multiple rounds. That way we can mad lib the actual fights.

With that in mind, the first part (i.e. the current round) will simply be the intro. The actual fighting will begin starting in part 2. So put me next in line after HyperReal.

I also plan on having the characters be in-character as I figured it would be more fun that way as they interact with the crazy world that is mad libs as we intentionally/inadvertently make their fights more awkward for them.

[up]I have no problem with that, though not sure if I have the say-so/authority/whatever-you-call-it for that as I'm the most recent member to this thread (if I'm not mistaken).

Also, I figure I might as well tell you all that Monokuma is the only character I have to have in-character for this round. As I'm not that familiar with the guy, this round is partly a collab (via Discord) as I just have to wait until I receive his dialogue.

The Showdown of Power - Introduction

The screen the viewer is looking at suddenly changes to show a black and white teddy bear against a background of a high-tech, almost post-apocalyptic arena of a grandiose size unlike anything on Earth. Above was a starry sky filled with star patterns that don't match the ones seen from the naked eye on Earth. From what little can be seen of the world around the arena, it seems like a popular venue on an alien world.

Across the bottom of the screen flashed the words "Your world is on the potential chopping block of conquests, so we're interrupting your activity to show your world's fate!"

Then, the bear began speaking.

Goooood evening, everybody! It's your very own host, the lovely Monokuma that you all know and love! But we're not talking about me this time, no sirree! Instead, I've got a new despair-inducing game to introduce to you all! I call it the Showdown of Power! As explained by one of our beloved producers, props to them, it's basically Mortal Kombat by way of Car Wars. Each participants, greatest champion of their realms, compete in a series of deadly autoduels to determine who is worthy to serve Vro-Me-Khal, Multiversal Deity of Mechanized Warfare and an avid autoduel fan, while the losers will have their homeworld enslaved and then strip-mined. Vehicles are provided to each fighters on per-fight basis, ranging from simple cars to towering BattleMechs, with a team of engineers from the fighter's homeworld providing technical support. The fights are fluffy, no-rules affair, usually set between two opposing fighters, but a last man standing setup may be enacted on Vro-Me-Khal's discretion. A win is declared when only one vehicle is left functional. A fighter may use magic/natural abilities in addition to mounted weapons. Hijacking an opposing vehicle is not only permitted, but also highly encouraged. Losers are completely left at the mercy of the winner, though Vro-Me-Khal and the audience often encourages the winner to fluffily devour them. Now doesn't that sound fun?

The camera changes to show a variety of fighters either taking their positions or just trying to get used to being there at the arena. The bear continues speaking as a voiceover.

...Uh-oh! Producers are saying I should get the names of the fighters out of the way! To start off, we've got Superman and Kirby... Is that you, Monomi? No? Anyway, we also have Wall-E, Daneel Olivaw, The Giant Praying Mantis, and... Oh no! It's Them! Along for the rides are Negi Springfield, Carl the Invoker, Jack Sparrow, Don Karnage, King Ghidorah, King Kong, The Beast, Emrakul the Aeons Torn, Sweet Tooth, Krusty the Clown, Karate Kat, Puss in Boots, Momiji Inubashiri, Yamper, Landia, Spyro, Elsa, Frozone, Roy Mustang, King Asgore Dreemurr, Aang, the Red Tornado, Garaa, Terra, Lord Bowser, and my good buddy Marx!

Some of the fighters reacted to their names being mentioned by Monokuma, others did not. The camera shifts again to show a 32 fighter bracket, showing that the first match is between Superman and Kirby. The image of a golden trophy filled with dollar bills appears as the bear continued.

...Aaaaand breaking news! The producers say that the winner will receive... 71 dollars? Is that really it? ...And I can't wager my own children as well? Darn... Well, looks like we're almost ready, hope you all enjoy the absolute despair that is the Showdown of Power... Upupupupu!

After an opening ceremony that briefly went over the individual history and statistics of the fighters, they were then sent to their designated rooms to relax and prepare for the upcoming battles.
