A long time (About two decades) ago, in a galaxy far, far away (the Milky Way), a little site known as TV Tropes was born. Dedicated to chronicling the tropes used in various media, the site began growing in size, extending its reach across the internet and ruining the lives of many belligerent fools...
...myself notwithstanding.
I joined TV Tropes mainly to escape the horrors of the Kiwi Farms forums, mainly because my hyperfixation on lolcow culture was dwindling and I wanted to talk with forum types without them casually deadnaming trans people they didn't like. It's been about three years since I've made the jump between forums, and every so often I find myself wondering if it was worth it.
In short: Yes, it very much was. You guys have been some of the nicest people I've ever had the pleasure of talking to online, and for that, you have my thanks.
Oh, shit! Where are my manners? I nearly forgot to introduce myself! I am Pogakure, a humble pile of bi trash, fueled by an amalgamation of neurodivergence and spite. I'm more of a forum lurker than a trope editor, but in the events that I do edit stuff it'll mostly be grammar and botched redirects.
Notes of varying importance regarding myself:
- My age: 17
- My pronouns: She/They
- My location: Michigan, USA (can't have shit in Detroit istg)
- I'm an art hobbyist trying to improve my skills whenever I can (I'm now trying to get the hang of digital art in the hopes of being able to make a few animatics someday)
- My favorite music genres: Rock, VGM and techno (especially fast stuff like breakcore and dnb,) though I'll gladly listen to mostly anything.
- I am the proud host of (as of March 29, 2024):
- 30 rounds of the VG Music Game
- Seven rounds of the Elimination Game
- Three rounds of Botticelli
- Two rounds of Mad Libs
- The Choose Your Own Adventure game The Jerkass Chronicles, which can be played here
- I'm often found lurking around Forum Games, Yack Fest, and various Video Game forum threads.
- I infrequently contribute to the lore of A Show That Doesn't Exist.
- I am a proud purveyor of Camp and Affectionate Parody, actively seeking out cheesy, So Bad, It's Good media on the daily.
- My personal creed is as follows - Do whatever you want, so long as it's Safe, Sane, and Consensual and you aren't being a dick about it (i.e. claiming moral superiority for doing something when it should have no moral aspect, unironically calling people cringe for not sharing your interests, etc).
- Politically speaking, I am a leftist, and I feel that my ideal form of government/economic policy could be considered market socialist. I don't believe that bloody revolution is the best way to achieve socialism, though. War has done us more harm than good, and the last thing we need in America is more pointless suffering. Therefore, the best way that social and systemic change will come about is through civil negotiation and democratic legislation. I wanna see at least social democracy in this buttfuck country before I kick the bucket. Whenever that is. I hate thinking about my inevitable death.
- I am absolutely neurodivergent (ADHD and autism, damn, double homicide), and my special interests include art, music, theatre, voiceover, video games, fashion/character design and internet culture.
- My designated troper wall can be sodomized here.
My Current Personal Stretch Goals:
- Put all of the VG Music Game songs into Youtube playlists [POSTPONED INDEFINITELY]:
- Get either Derek Stephen Prince or Regretful Reads to narrate the Kokichi Ouma pee fic (If you know, you know; If you don't, good.)
- Put together a personal voice acting demo reel
- Get into cosplay
- Pursue a career in graphic design
- Create a Tumblr (For archiving my old cringey art, as well as other personal purposes.)
- Find more ways to contribute around not just the forums, but the wiki as a whole (If anyone finds pages that need help with grammar, feel free to message me; I'll be on the case in no time.)
- 100% Miitopia
- Git gud at Guilty Gear
- Complete the Hisui Pokedex
- Put together a list of tropes that apply to me
- Find a way to get more people on the "Ask the above poster a question" thread to inquire about my music tastes (hint hint)
- Find more ways to contribute to local mutual aid programs in my area
- Touch grass more regularly
- Complete the Zero Escape Trilogy (currently on 999)
TV Tropes-related stretch goals (aka stuff I wanna do to help around the wiki but I'm too scared)
- Create a Music page for Sammy Hagar's solo work (and maybe even revamp David Lee Roth's page while I'm at it)
- Clean up grammar on all pages related to The Big Bang Theory
- Update pages that reference Asperger Syndrome to redirect to UsefulNotes.Autism instead (You'd be surprised by just how many pages reference autism by name but then redirect to the Aspergers page; this might be a multi-troper undertaking)
- Create work pages for the following:
- Why Humans Avoid War
- Raptor Boyfriend
- Tony Hawk's American Wasteland (The game is dense enough story/trope-wise to be worth separating from the main Tony Hawk's Underground page.)
- Attention Deficit Creator Disorder: The main reason why most of my fanfics are one-shots is because I can’t trust myself to have the attention span to write grandiose epics.
- Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Yeah, I have ADHD. Why else would I spend any prolonged amount of time on this god-forsaken website? It gets worse when I’m not on my Vyvanse.
- Berserk Button:
- Bigotry, racism, queerphobia; y’know, the usual stuff.
- Red links.
- Minor grammatical errors. The more miniscule and easily fixed, the worse I feel about them.
- In addition, when people omit certain syntax from work titles. Saying “Tony Hawk Pro Skater” instead of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater and what not. I can understand omitting "The" from titles but come on.
- Using "autistic" as an insult. Like, it’s so immature, and using the word like that makes it plainly obvious what word you actually wanted to use. Either man up and call me retarded or keep your mouth shut, bucko.
- Black and Nerdy: Erm, Black and Geeky, thank you very much.
- Brutal Honesty: That’s that autistic grindset, baybee. I tell it like it is more often than not. I will admit that it’s gotten me into trouble in real life sometimes, but that’s neither here nor there.
- Cloudcuckoolander: My silly little mind is constantly plagued with silly little thoughts. Most of them never make it out of my head.
- Deadpan Snarker: At least, I'd like to think I am. It's more evident in forum posts than in IRL conversation.
- Depraved Bisexual: Downplayed? I’m nowhere near as villainous/lecherous as the actual examples, but the things I want to do to/have done to me by my various fictional crushes are things I’m certain I can’t discuss without getting thumped... ehehe~
- Grammar Nazi: I'm a stickler for proper grammar. No matter how stupid and mundane and chronically online a convo I'm in becomes, don't be surprised if I go back into a post to edit a minor grammatical mistake that literally no one else would've noticed.
- Motor Mouth: People tell me that I talk way too fast, which is... valid. If I wanna become a voice actor, I'm gonna have to learn how to properly pace myself when I'm talking.
- N-Word Privileges: While I do have an N-Word Pass (see: Black and Nerdy above), I don’t ever use it because IDK, it just doesn’t feel… right to hear the n-word coming out of my mouth, you feel me? Other words I can reclaim are the F-slur (which I never use) and the R-slur (which I have said and typed before but largely refrain from using online because I try to have at least some sense of decorum).
- Self-Deprecation: It's the name of the game, baybee.
- Signature Style: Irony, sardonicism and self-awareness, because I refuse to take myself seriously. I also like script/screenplay formatting (i.e. enough to have it be my only favorited tag on AO3) because I love the theater and also lowkey kinda suck at writing dialogue direction without it. Another thing I do a lot is italicize words I'm trying to put emphasis on.
- Sophisticated as Hell: Now, one thing I catch myself doing often (and you too might’ve already noticed as you’ve read through my page) is that I’ll end up using a bunch of autistically antiquated words and super proper grammar in a sentence and then drop a nerdy slang term or a cuss in there for good measure. Like, you could read through a point I’m making and go, "wow, this troper is so well spoken, I bet they’re a thirty-something with a lot of life experience" and then I’ll mention rizz in that same sentence and you’ll go, "Oh right, they’re a zoomer, I should've known."
