Ah, Porsche. The brand where there is no substitute.
Porsche has long been a brand known for its rich history and some of the most iconic and sought-after cars in the world, mainly its signature flagship model, the Porsche 911.
Porsche in fiction has its own history written ever since Hollywood began associating branded cars in their works, other than just their own American ones like Chevrolet or Ford. While this exotic car makers from Germany has not ever been featured as the leading automobile, many of them have played pivotal parts in some of the most memorable scenes of fast-paced cat and mouse games of speed. These cars would usually be seen in the hands to the ones who love the thrill of speed or just to showcase its unwavering and admirable beauty.
NOTE: For Video Games, Electronic Arts held the exclusive rights to Porsche from 2000 to 2016, barring other video game developers from using the brand with a few exceptions. This prompted video games made during that time to use Porsche substitutes such as Ruf (known for using Porsche's bodies in white to build their cars) or Gemballa (known for their extensive customization of Porsche cars to the point they are legally considered different cars). In 2016, Porsche agreed to open up their licensing rights by letting their exclusive deal with EA expire, due to the deal being unfeasible and also hurting their brand awareness, which was further impacted by Volkswagen Group's diesel emissions scandal that began in 2015.
The one that started it all for Porsche.
The Porsche 356 is the first ever production car ever made by the brand. Like the Volkswagen Beetle, which was made by the company's founder Ferdinand Porsche, the car is widely known for its rear-engine, rear-wheel drive and its lightweight, nimble handling which would be Porsche's philosophy to success to its brand.
It all began with the very first real car created, the aluminum-cladded 356/1 in 1948, which only one was produced. Following its small production of the 356/2 with only 61 were ever made, the 356 was finally introduced to the public and began mass-production in 1951.
The 356 was built in four distinct series, the original "pre-A" 356 produced from 1948 to 1955, offering 1.1 L to 1.5 L flat-4 engines and offered in either cabriole or coupe bodies, the 356 A from 1955 to 1959 where it was under the "Type 1" designation offered with four-cam "Carrera" engines and introduced a cabriole variant called the Speedster, then there is the 356 B from 1960 to 1963, its powerful iteration with T6 body types offered from 1.6 to 2.0 engines and a unique "Karmann hardtop" and finally, the 356 C, which saw short-lived production in 1964.
With the end of the 356 in 1965, with 76,000 produced, it paved way for the brand's famous flagship sports car: the long-running Porsche 911 (and its many derivatives).
Anime and Manga
- Gin, one of the recurring agents of the Black Organization in Detective Conan, drives a Porsche 356 A anywhere he goes. 356s are rather to be an Improbably Cool Car to see in Japanese soil that majority of the cast instantly recognize it when they see it. So much for being secretive.
- Befitting Selina Kyle's looks, Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders has the Catmobile, a 356-esque Ace Custom with cat ears and a cat tail.
- Reggie Hammond's car of 48 Hrs. is said to be a Porsche 356 Speedster. It's actually a replica built by CMC (Classic Motor Carriage), but still nonetheless a Cool Car worth seeing.
- Bullitt's girlfriend Cathy has a snazzy Champaine Yellow Porsche 356 cabriolet.
- The titular protagonist of Doc Hollywood, aptly named Dr. Benjamin Stone has his Cool Car, a red 1956 Porsche 356 A Speedster, which he drives it cross-country.
- B-Movie Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! has Varla's 1964 Porsche 356 C coupé as one of the five star cars in the movie. Truth in Television, the Cool Car used in the movie is owned by the director of the film, Russ Meyer.
- Ford V Ferrari has something outside of just Fords and Ferraris, as Carroll Shelby at one scene
Drives Like Crazy in his red 1957 365 A Speedster down the trafficked streets of Los Angeles. - The titular Harper drives a Porsche Speedster. Yep, that car that was driven into the ravine at the end of the movie.
- Zach & Andie in SpaceCamp takes a red Porsche Speedster to drive on their way to the titular location.
- Perhaps the most notable example would be the Cool Car of Charlotte "Charlie" Blackwood of Top Gun, which is a black 1958 Porsche 356 she uses to zoom around San Diego. The truth is, this 'lil Speedster was actually a replica made by Intermeccanica instead of the real thing.
- A pre-A 356 was the car Nicolas Cage was using to cruise around in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent... with Pedro Pascal onboard.
- The Cool Car of Dylan McKay in Beverly Hills, 90210 is none other than his beloved black 1964 Porsche 356 B convertible, being the sole driver of the car who'd staunchly refuses to let anyone use it other than him, until Brenda finally gets right to drive it after she received her driver's license.
- In the episode "Foreign Trade" of Emergency!, Roy is shown driving a 1964 Porsche 356C Cabriolet — not one of Porsche's sports car, but even in The '70s it was considered a classic, and a much cooler car than one would associate with a paramedic and a family man like Roy.
- De. Derek Shepherd in the episode "Shock to the System" of Grey's Anatomy, where he is seen driving a Porsche in this episode. It's possibly an Actor Allusion due to his portrayer Patrick Dempsey as he used his payroll from Can't Buy Me Love to buy a Porsche 356 as his first car.
- One episode of Honey West has Action Girl Honey follow a suspect at the Griffith Park Observatory in Los Angeles who is driving the Porsche 356 coupé.
- In Mannix has some examples with that blue 356 of Porsche's...
- An early B coupe was destroyed and caught fire on Mission: Impossible, when Peter Graves had to bail out at speed.
- Stefan Salvatore of The Vampire Diaries drives a red 1963 Porsche 356B Karmann Coupe.
- Atomic Kitten is having a nice time enjoying their holiday in "It's OK!", where the trio enjoys a joy ride around the breathtaking scenic roads in their silver Porsche 356 convertible.
- "You Want This" by Janet Jackson would have something loosely based out of Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! Y'know... that 356 C coupé driven on the open desert roads?
- In "#Beautiful" by Mariah Carey, Miguel is seen sitting down and relaxing in his red 356 cabrio while admiring Mariah's dazzling beautiful looks.
- The song ''Don't Wanna Know" by Maroon 5 shows Adam Levine dressed up as a blue turtle for some reason, as he drives his silver Porsche 356 through Los Angeles, on his way to met up with the group.
- The Car Song "Hey Porsche" by rapper Nelly features a vintage Porsche 356A convertible is in its music video full of car metaphors. Except, it's not a real 356 but a replica made by Classic Motor Carriages.
- While 356s were around in the Xbox One-era Forza games, there is this Ace Custom 356s tuned by Emory Motorsport in the Horizon series. Consider this to be a Lethal Joke Car.
- The 356 A Carrera Speedster appeared in a Gran Turismo Sport update, which would be the car used in the very first Music Rally event in 7 before starting the game. Also in 7 adds a coupe variant of said 356 A.
- There are 356s aplenty in Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed. From the painstakingly slow pre-A 356 all the way to the powerful 356 B Carrera 2. It's probably the car you'd start off in Evolution mode, especially in Classic Era events, that many championships revolve around nothing but 356s.
- Sojiro Sakura, one of the confidants of Persona 5 owns a classic condor yellow Porsche 356, where he drives The Protagonist to Shujin for the first time, much to his reluctance.Sojiro: Sheesh... Men aren't usually allowed in my passenger seat.
- The Paris Booster Pack of Project Gotham Racing 2 allows you to drive this classic; the Porsche 356 A Carrera Speedster. It may have slow top speeds but it's compensated to its superior handling.
- The Namco Pac-Man, a special vehicle in Ridge Racer V has Pac-Man himself driving a tiny red Porsche 356 A Speedster Expy. Don't be fooled by its adorable looks as is it a deadly speedster and underestimating it would tend to end badly.
Originally built in 1963, the Porsche 911 is a luxury sports car that is notable for having a rear engine and being air-cooled. The car itself has also been modified several times over for various forms of competition to the point that it spawned its own lineage. The 911 has remained in continuous production since its conception, with the one millionth example being produced in May 2017 and remaining in the company's permanent collection in Berlin since then.
The original 911 was developed as a replacement for the 356. It also would've been called the 901 had Peugeot not had exclusive rights to having cars formed by three numbers having a zero in the middle. As previously stated, the 911 has its own lineage and has several families based on their body style or engine enhancements. This began with the 930, which is best described as a turbocharged 911.
Competitively, the 911 is among the most successful competition cars. The 911 Carrera RSR would go on to win world championship races like the Targa Florio and 24 Hours of Daytona in the mid-1970s. The 935 Turbo, which was derived from the 911, would win the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1979. Porsche won the World Championship for Makes using 911-derived models in 1976, 1977, 1978 and 1979.
Anime and Manga
- Saeko Nogami from City Hunter drives a red Porsche 930 Turbo from the second season of the anime onward.
- Misaki Kirihara of Darker than Black uses her blue Porsche 997 Carrera as her personal Cool Car.
- An episode of Detective Conan where Porsches where the Central Theme has one of the assiliants named Yoshihito Kureko who drives a classic white 911 S, used to hold Yukiya hostage, and was found dead inside the car.
- MF Ghost featured two of the finest drivers behind the wheel of the Stuttgart legend.
- Two-time defending MFG champion Fujin Ishigami rationally uses a white modified Porsche 991 GT3. Its colossal amount of horsepower, handling ability and its RR layout gives Ishigami the edge of the competition without the necessary need for a tire handicap.
- Resident Kiwi Jackson Taylor drives a Miami Blue 991 Carrera GTS. The car has nearly triple the horsepower than Kanata's 86, enough to pull him away in the straights.
- The manga My Favorite Carrera fully centralizes about a beautiful girl named Reina Todoroki and her Cool Car, a pink Porsche 964 Carrera (the title says it all) that was owned by her late father.
- A nice Cool Car it is in Patlabor, as Lieutenant Kanuka Clancy uses her Porsche 911 in some episodes. And a blue one, too.
- Other than just the Devil Z, Tatsuya Shima, the "King of Wangan" in Wangan Midnight, is the driver behind the iconic black modified Porsche 930 Turbo, the "Blackbird".
Comic Books
- Werner has Holgi's Porsche 911 S in "Das Rennen". Yes, it's still a Porsche, and yes, Holgi calls it "the absolutely fastest car". But it has a leaking gearbox, completely misadjusted carburetors and not left the garage completely or the courtyard at all in two years.
Film — Animation
- Sally Carrera from Cars is... well, as her last name states, a light blue 2002 911 Carrera (996). Lightning McQueen admires her looks and her speed when she takes him for a spin around Radiator Springs.
- A red Porsche 991 cabriolet belongs to a Fortune Teller named Glory Suriyo, who takes it around the traditional Japanese hot spring town in Okko's Inn.
Film — Live Action
- There is not much that can make The '80s Jeff Bridges any cooler in Against All Odds, but a shiny bright red Porsche 911 SC cabrio helps.
- David Percival would drive this modified 964-generation 911 Carrera in 4 Atomic Blonde in one particular Car Chase scene.
- This is Mike Lowrey's Cool Car in Bad Boys (1995); a black 1993 Porsche 911 Turbo 3.6 that plays a critically vital role during the climactic Car Chase against a Big Bad in a Shelby Cobra.
- For the 2020 film Bad Boys for Life, Mike swaps his classic 930 for a modern-day 992 Carrera, where Marcus accidentally tampers with.
- Chris Evans's character Ryan gives chase to the kidnapper by hijacking a security officer's blue Carrera convertible in Cellular, and much enjoys his new acquired but "stolen" ride. Until it was towed away by police for illegal parking, but manages to retrieve it again at the impound lot.
- Condorman features the Russian spies who all counter with nothing but a bunch of black "probably-not-real" Porsche 935 and a pair of 911s in one whole Car Chase scene.
- A fully weaponized Porsche 911 appeared in Death Race, fully-armoured and loaded with more artillery than the massive Dreadnought. This meant one fewer prisoner in the competition.
- Diogo of Fast Five owns a blue 996 GT3 RS particularly used for street racing. Brian would then use this to drive back to their hideout and he's amped about the tuning without any drawbacks.Brian: Look at that. How about that? All motor, no tuning issues. I always wanted one of those.
- Eleanor aside. Also in Gone in 60 Seconds (2000), not only the iconic Eleanor of at all, but an oft-forgotten silver 1999 Porsche 996 Carrera nicknamed "Tina'', owned by Giovanni Ribisi's character, which this Cool Car is actually stolen at the first place, though.
- Chuck Norris's character in Good Guys Wear Black does drive a totally sweet turbo Porsche with the “whale tail” and that alone makes the movie cool.
- As it's just new out there, Jann Maddenborough in Gran Turismo (2023) gets back on his feet as he completes his run around the Nürburgring Nordschleife in a 992 GT3 RS.
- The Porsche team in The Gumball Rally uses an Amazon Brigade driving 911 Targas.
- Other than the 917 which is the main star of Le Mans, Steve McQueen's significant other Cool Car would be his slate grey Porsche 911 S, seen at the very beginning of the film where he drives is through the French countryside.
- In Mission: Impossible II, Ethan Hunt in his Porsche 996 cabrio chases down Nyah Nordoff-Hall in her Audi TT. Throughout the Car Chase, both get into a demolition derby, went into lots of Spectacular Spinning, and Nyah had a near-death experience.
- Daisy Araújo's 911 cabriolet of Mystic Pizza is essentially a Porsche full of fish.
- The world's worst boss of Office Space Bill Lumbergh would give his motley crew in the most boring company in the universe a lot of headaches and misery whenever he shows up in his baby blue 911 SC everyday.
- Red 2 did something awesome over here! A Porsche 911 that drifts while the door open and Bruce Willis's character immediately get in the driver seat... while moving.
- In Thank God It's Friday, Tony is introduced carefully covering his 1974 Porsche 911 Carrera with a tarp before he heads into the club for the evening. Over the next few hours various other cars accidentally knock it about in passing, and in his final scene — as he tries one last time to woo a housewife away from her husband — he smacks the car in frustration, whereupon it virtually implodes from the accumulated damage, much to the amusement of the couple.
- A silver 1973 Porsche 911 S is the Cool Car driven by Penny, Pete Mitchell's love interest in Top Gun: Maverick.
- The altmode of Autobot Mirage, one of the main characters from Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is a sleek silver-blue 964 Carrera (though he can transform into any car at his own will), whom Noah Diaz and Reek attempt to steal earlier. That being said, Mirage is both Noah's personal Cool Car and also a close ally.

- The Porsche 911 is Samuel Athos's Cool Car in New Orleans Supernatural Weekly, although the "mods" are well hidden.
Live-Action TV
- Saga drives an early-model Porsche 911 during The Bridge (2011), which she won in it in a bet from a fellow police-academy student. Sofia Helin, after the show had finished, complained that it had been extremely difficult and tiring to drive.
- Sarah Walker from Chuck owns a black Porsche 911 Carrera, a sleek and sexy sports car fitting for a sleek and sexy spy. Though how it fits her cover as a low-wage food services worker is never explained.
- Pamela Ewing must be loving 911 SCs so much throughout Dallas. Season 4 has this targa-top, while season 7 has her brand new SC cabrio.
- A chiffon-white 911 cabrio is with a Vanity License Plate reading "LITIG8R" is the personal car of Arnie Becker from L.A. Law.
- The red 993 911 Carrera cabrio is one of the cars Chase drives throughout LA Heat.
- The black Porsche 911 T coupe is driven by the titular Grace Hanadarko of Saving Grace.

- Atomic Kitten's rendition of The Tide is High" has the customized 911 S with their name on it.
- Our protagonist in "We'll Be Coming Back" by Calvin Harris feat. Example gets hallucinated and thinking he was pursued by a mysterious driver in a red 911 classic.
- Two blokes would take their 911 for a night drive, engaged in a Hot Pursuit and went onto hiding in The Chemical Brothers's "Block Rockin' Beats".
- "White Knuckle Ride" by Jamiroquai shows Jay Kay pursuing a Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 along a winding desert road from a helicopter.

- Apart from Sally whom she's a 911 alone, there is another 911 chick named Candice from the Cars video games. She's a female light pink car who doesnt take losing big time.
- Stage 3 of Chase H.Q. has the target: the Chicago pushers in a German sports car as Nancy stated, which is a silver Porsche 911.
- The Porsche 930 Turbo is the signature customized vehicle of Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2077, given In a World… full of over-futuristic cars, a classic yet licensed car gets its own spotlight. And given that it's set in 2077, the car appears to be 100 years old.
- DiRT Rally 2.0 includes two Porsche 911 rally cars to the time-trial rosters; the SC RS model is based on the classic 911 rally cars of the old, while the newer RGT Rally Spec is based off the 997 GT3. Both also appear in DiRT 5.
- While RUFs are also a Cool Car of its own, it plays an integral role in Driver: San Francisco. During the "Ticking Clock" mission, John Tanner has to drive a RUF Rt 12 Under the Truck to defuse the bomb, thanks to its very low profile. And during the "It's For Charity" mission, the RUF CTR Yellowbird is one of the four stolen vehicles that need to be recovered.
- Many of the 911's sucessors are featured in Forza, with the earliest version of the car being the 1973 Carrera RS. The 2018 911 GT2 RS had the honor of being featured on the cover of Forza Motorsport 7.
- Also you have the 959 that appears in every instalment that has the Porsche brand. This would be featured in the Forzathon Weekly Challenge "Gruppe B" in Horizon 4.
- The "Thunder in the Jungle" segment of the Horizon 5 intro puts you in the Desert Flyer 911 around the jungle surrounded by flamingos. Looks like Ramiro just dropped you at the wrong time where you and your car just botched your landing after hitting a tree. At least it was unscathed.
- If you played any of the previous games before the 2023 reboot of Motorsport, the Loyalty Reward gives you the Forza Edition 911 GT2 RS, which is nothing but a 911 GT2 RS with a Duke Dynamics body kit.
- Since Gran Turismo 2, RUF has appeared in its subsequent games. Specifically for 911 substitutes (because of EA licensing rights), many of them are the RUF, BTR, CTR Yellowbird, CTR2 and the RGT, which became notable for its Driving Test and the Race Against the Clock challenge at the notorious Complex String.
- Kazunori Yamauchi's personal car, a Porsche 996 GT3 appears as a hidden car in 3: A-spec, which would technically be the first Porsche. The car would officially make its official debut in Sport, alongside its other Porsche models. And with that said, the 2017 911 RSR serves a Porsche's basis as their Gr.3 race car.
- ...and so to commemorate it, the Spec II update adds that 911 GT3 RS (992) from the movie to Gran Turismo 7's Brand Central. Plus, another car where you can use DRS.
- Comets in the Grand Theft Auto series are all based on Porsche 911 models.
- Despite what EA said otherwise regarding Porsche licensing restrictions before it acquired Codemasters in 2020, GRID back in 2008 managed to slip in a Porsche 911 GT3 RSR (996) in the game as a non-purchasable GT2 class car, and can be only driveable via Driver Offers. With Porsche in their hands again for the 2019 game, they brought in the 911 race models in the lineup: a 991.2 RSR, a 935, the classic RSR 3.0 and the GT4-spec 997 Carrera.
- The Modo Prego in Midnight Club II, which in context means "you're welcome" in Italian anyway, is based on the 2000 Porsche 911 GT3 (996), seen in the hands of Parfait, the city champ of Paris.
- One of the most popular cars for online multipayer in MotorStorm is the Wulff Revo; a modernized and fictionalized Porsche 959 with headlights of a Toyota Celica.
- The 911 is an extremely common car seen in many of its Need for Speed installments.
- You will see lots and lots of Palette Swaps for each of the generation up to the Turn of the Millennium in Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed, including the latest 996 Turbo, serving as the game's cover car (and the best of the best too).
- Other than that, you also get some of its race-class derivatives: The Porsche 935 "Moby Dick" (a silhouette 930 Turbo) and the ultimately modern 911 GT1.
- In Most Wanted, you have the then-new 997 Carrera S, but also its predecessor, the 996 Turbo S. Both play a pivotal role in the Challenge Series, unless you have the Black Edition where you have a specially tuned bonus car of the former.
- ProStreet and Undercover feature the entire 997 family in the roster; the turboocharged 911 Turbo (which was also previously in Carbon), a track-day 911 GT3 RS and the ultimate 911 GT2. For the latter game, the iconic black and red 911 GT2 belonged to Rose Largo, one of GMAC's Co-Dragons, serving as the cover car of the game.
- Ditto for Shift, which features three 997 cars: the 911 GT3 RS, the 911 GT2, and the 911 GT3 RSR. In the PSP version of the game, a pink G Effect-themed 911 GT3 RS is driven by Race King #5 Aya Vasquez. All three cars would also return for the sequel, along with new additions such as the 911 GT3 Cup R and the DLC-exclusive 911 Carrera RSR 3.0.
- There are 911s aplenty in Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (2010), ranging from the 997 Targa, to the Turbo S Cabriolet, a track-spec GT3 RS and GT2 RS, the Speedster and even the classic 911 Turbo (930). Some Porsche-only events would be a perfect time to shine for those who ask for no substitute.
- The very beginning of The Run has Jack Rourke trapped inside his Porsche 911 with their hands duct-taped to the wheel. Then, the car is thrown into a trash compactor and one of the walls begin to close in. Fortunately, he escapes unscathed.
- Jack Rourke can use a 991 to begin his Epic Race, but only if you have the Limited Edition. Other than that you also have the 993 GT2 that has an RWB version, and a 997 GT3 RS 4.0 where one edition replicates the Flying Lizard RSR race car.
- During the introductory tutorial of Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012), your be tasked to go to your first ever Jack Spot, which is the new 991 Carrera S that will await you.
- The 2015 reboot spawns a slew of 911s where two of the icons drive one; RWB's Akira Nakai has his RWB-tuned 911 and Magnus Walker, a 911 afficionado also drives this. There's also a brand new 911 GT3 RS (991) where you can create its RSR racing counterpart via body kit customization.

- That Puma-loving anti-social braggart Chase from Unbound uses a two-toned 911 GT3 RS complete with an RSR racing body kit. Careful, he's definitely an elite asshole.
- You will see lots and lots of Palette Swaps for each of the generation up to the Turn of the Millennium in Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed, including the latest 996 Turbo, serving as the game's cover car (and the best of the best too).
- The first Project Gotham Racing game had one of the best cars offered in the lineup, which is the 911 GT2 (996). Its sequel expanded the 911 horizons by adding many iterations, like the classic 911 RS 2.7, the 993 GT2, the 996 series (Turbo, GT3 and GT2 Clubsport), the extreme track toy Porsche 959 and even one of the game breaking ultimates, the 911 GT1.
- Since Bizarre Creations implies it lost its licensing rights to Porsche, 3 switches to RUFs this time.
- The first time you open Real Racing 3, you are greeted in an introduction where there's a slew of Porsche 911 GT3 RS (997) driving around Laguna Seca as part of the tutorial. The September 2013 update added seven different types of 911s as part of Porsche's 50 years of 911. And up to date, there are more 911s than what your grandma can ever think of.
- The "Easy Driving" car of SCUD Race is the #22 Elf Haberthur Porsche 911 GT2 (993) that competed in the BPR Global GT Series.
- Shox: Rally Reinvented, another EA game, included two playable Porsche 911 desert racers, the classic SC Safari and the 1984 Paris Dakar rally car. The latter also served as a basis for the 959 which also appears in same game in its famous Dakar Rally variant.

First of all, they use Gemballas as the basis for Tatsuya's Blackbird from its first game up to 3DX+. Unfortunately, that was only exclusive to Japan, where international versions instead had hin use a Nissan Fairlady as the basis for the car. Fast forward to 4, as both Japan and International now use RUF models instead, in which the Blackbird now uses RUF CTR as the basis. When EA ended its exclusive rights and Porsche finally debuted in 6, the Blackbird now is a Porsche alone.
- The Critic Jay Sherman owns a red sports cabrio 911-lookalike, which he uses to chase down his producer throughout Los Angeles.

In 1968, when regulations of the 24 Hours of Le Mans restricted unlimited capacity to sports racing cars with at least 5 liters maximum, Porsche decided to pull a Flaw Exploitation in regard to the new rules imposed.
Built from the ground up, Porsche at no expense has created a new sports prototype where they'd build new chassis for every race or two, as an effortful attempt to take advantage of the new regulations, but On One Condition: to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans on June 14, 1970. After ten months, the new prototype is finished, it is named the Porsche 917.
The 917 was built from a very light spaceframe chassis, and is powered by a 4.5 L air-cooled Type 912 flat-12 engine, a large horizontally mounted cooling fan and its Type 920 gearbox which would handle four or five gears. The 917 is unique when it comes to the body as it's originally offered in either a removable long/medium tail with active rear wing flaps. It was Awesome, but Impractical due to being capable at high speeds but would suffer in handling issues, as tested in the Österreichring note Following investigations of the problem, they quickly change and adopted the new 917K, which stood for Kurzheck or "short-tail".
The 917 debuted on track during the 1969 World Sportscar Championship and performed poorly during races due to being unstable and its engine being too much to handle, even the modifications didn't help. Though everything changed the following year when Porsche carefully prepared for The Big Race they have pledged when building that car. To their surprise, the factory drivers have delivered it when Hans Herrmann and Richard Attwood manage to win the 1970 Le Mans race. Not only did they achieve a Le Mans victory, but also helped Porsche secure the World Sportscar Championship titles in 1970 and 1971, courtesy of Mexican driver Pedro Rodríguez.
To this day, the Porsche 917 has been regarded as a Difficult, but Awesome car to drive, which in return has achieved numerous winning titles under its belt.
Film — Live Action
- This German mustachioed race car driver named Bruno Von Stickle from Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo drives a powerful Porsche 917 clone (which was actually a VW platform kit car), painted in the colors of his home country used for The Big Race.
- Steve McQueen's Le Mans needs no introduction, since the story is about him as a Le Mans driver, representing the Gulf Porsche team for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. And you can frankly say, the #20 Porsche 917 (which is indeed a very Cool Car itself!) is the central star of the story.
- Franklyn Hart of The Last Chase takes a Le Mans-winning race car outside of the track and into the dystopian sci-fi world, which is nothing short of awesome. And his Cool Car is the Porsche 917/10 Can-Am which is explicitly the last gasoline-guzzler car in America and which can outrace almost everything the government can toss at it.
- There is one of the best race specials throughout the Burnout series called the Euro Circuit Racer, taking cues from the Porsche 917/69.
- The 917 LH and the 917/20 has made prominence through the Forza series. The former was an unused car in Motorsport 7 that never saw release.
- Both the Living Legend, and the other Living Legend (yes, the car is called the 917 LIVING LEGEND concept) plays a critical figure in Gran Turismo 7. The former is used in the infamous S-10 license at the post-rain Spa-Francorchamps, and the latter can be obtained as a Pre-Order Bonus.
- If you managed to finish the endurance race in Le Mans 24, then you are pitted in a bonus race, pitting your car against the True Final Boss; the Porsche 917K. Unless it's a Mirror Boss and you can use the 917K after entering commands.
- Both GRID (2019) and Grid Legends add this Difficult, but Awesome car called the Porsche 917/30. Combining high power and with the right tuning, you can blast away at over 450 km/h, useful for the former if you need to get the Around the Globe trophy really quick.
- Exclusively for the PlayStation, achieving the Senior Test Driver title in the Factory Driver mode of Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed awards you the Porsche 917 K Short Tail. This is the console's stand-in to the PC's 935 "Moby Dick".
- Judging by its Gulf Oil-inspired colors, Torra Doza's racing ship, the Blue Ace in Star Wars Resistance looks like it is based off of the Gulf-liveried Porsche 917.

The 928 is Porsche's 2+2 grand tourer introduced in May 1977. This is the brand's answer to the changes in the automotive market by best representing its intention to replace its own 911.
Following its Post-Peak Oil amidst The '70s, Ferdinand Porsche discussed on potentially producing a much more fuel-efficient luxury touring car to its lineup, due to the Porsche 911 at that time is at its highest limits and declining sales. Managing director Ernst Fuhrmann suggests an idea for a grand tourer with conventional engines that would be essentially more of a Boring, but Practical one that would define the company's future. Ordered by Ferdinand Porsche, a new design study commenced in 1971, resulting in the creation of the new grand tourer: the Porsche 928.
Its body style would be integrated into a shark-like shaped fastback, with features an angular front end with a distinct 'Shark Nose' profile. One of its most distinctive feature is its pop-up headlamps, which would remain visible in the wings, even when retracted.
Unlike any traditional Porsche that either use rear- or mid-engine, Porsche opted for a front-engine, rear-wheel drive configuration. To maximize its large displacement, the 928 is equipped with a water-cooled M28 V8 engine, initially producing 291 horsepower. Later versions had the revised 928 S, as it enters the European market at the start of The '80s, with its new engine producing 296-306 hp. Included in its revision is its added front and rear spoiler. The second half of The '80s has the new 928 S4, with an updated 5.0 L V8 producing 316 hp, and was offered in automatic transmission. A Club Sport variant was 100 kg (220 lb) lighter than its initial model, introduced for European and American markets in 1988.
As the dawn of the modern era began nearly at The '90s, Porsche debuted the 928 GT, which had GT wheels, ZF LSD and all the optional components from the S4 were all now standard equipment. With the S4 and GT halted production in 1991 to make way for the final version of the 928. It was the 928 GTS, introduced in 1992, which sar even more revise bodywork, larger brakes and its even more powerful 5.4 L V8 engine producing 346 hp, making it one of the most expensive road cars of that time.
The Porsche 928 discontinued production in 1995, with a little over 61,000 units produced throughout its 18-year production run. It was a remarkable car for its performance and looks, and was regarded as the European Car of the Year in 1978, as well as The Autocar describing it as the "super car" in 1980.

Both the Boxster and the Cayman are Porsche's mid-engined two seater sports cars. One major difference between the two is that the Boxster is a two-seater roadster and the Cayman is a three-door fastback coupé. For its Meaningful Name for both cars, the Boxster is a Portmanteau of the words boxer and roadster (since the car uses a flat-6 "boxer" engine), and as for the Cayman, it an alternate name for caiman, a member of the alligator family.
The Boxster dates all the way back in 1996 where Porsche was in dire need to replace its then-aging 968. The design was based on Grant Larson's 1993 concept design, inspired by the 356 cabriolet, speedster and the 550 Spyder. Designated under the 986 code, the Boxster was launched to the public in late 1996, powered by a 2.5 L flat-6 (3.2 L for the Boxster S). Its later generation, the 987 takes inspirations from the body work of the Carrera GT. In 2005, Porsche released its coupé derivative of the Boxster, called the Porsche Cayman, with a powerful Cayman S unveiled on the same year.
In 2012, Porsche announced a new iteration for both the Boxster and the Cayman under the 981 designation. Both also had high-performance track-oriented versions called the Boxster Spyder and the Cayman GT4, where the latter sees active motorsports usage, called the Cayman GT4 Clubsport.
Introduced in 2016, the Porsche Boxster and Cayman were renamed the Porsche 718 Boxster and Porsche 718 Cayman (under the 982 designation), which the 718 moniker was revived from its 718 RSK race car. Breaking Old Trends from the previous 3 generations, it now uses turbocharged flat-4 engines.

Succeeding the 911 GT1 comes a brand new mid-engined sports car: The Porsche Carrera GT.
It took three years to develop this car before Porsche announced the start of production of the Carrera GT in 2003. Originally planned for 1,500 cars, Porsche would stop production in 2006, citing new airbag regulations in the United States.
The Carrera GT uses a 5.7 litre naturally aspirated V10 engine, which was intended for the Porsche LMP2000 race car that never saw action. Its design being inherited by legendary Porsche race cars such as the 962C and the 911 GT1 makes the Carrera GT one of Porsche's most beloved exotics of its time.
Also, the Carrera GT is known as the car that got involved in a major crash on November 30, 2013, taking the life of Paul Walker, during filming of Furious 7.

- One of the racers in the 2007 racing film Redline has a silver Porsche Carrera GT. It participates in the final race where it tragically hits a barrier and falls off a cliff.

The Cadillac Escalade was a major hit that defined the SUV, but Porsche decided to build an SUV of their own in 2002. Named after a piquant cayenne pepper, the Porsche Cayenne was launched to the world.
Sure, it's your ordinary mundane SUV, but this one proved its mettle to have excellent performance with good handling and powerful engines, given Porsche's expertise in off-road vehiclesnote . Originally Cayennes use Volkswagen's patented VR6, but later iterations introduce an even powerful version: The Porsche Cayenne Turbo, fitted with a 4.5 L twin-turbo V8, and was capable of reaching 269 km/h (167 mph), which is pretty fast for a 4x4 at that time.
Cayennes were offered in numerous variants, trims and engine types, ranging from the turbocharged Cayenne Turbo and Cayenne Turbo S, to the diesel-powered Cayenne Diesel, and for later generations, introduces a plug-in hybrid called the Cayenne S E-Hybrid. For 2018, a coupe SUV variant called the Cayenne Coupé was announced, alongside its powerful varian, the Cayenne Turbo GT in 2022 which set the fastest lap time around the Nürburgring Nordschleife with an SUV at 7:38.925.
