The Codemasters Software Company Limited, trading as simply Codemasters, is a British video game developer and publisher founded in 1986 by Richard and David Darling. In their early years, they mostly published budget games for 8-bit computers such as the ZX Spectrum and Commodore 64. Many of their early releases had "Simulator" or "Stuntman" in their titles, though practically none of these had any relation to each other or qualified as Simulation Games (which those were Codemasters' first attempts back then, due to hardware limitations). They also entered the Nintendo Entertainment System market through Camerica, who published them as an unlicensed third-party, as well creating Cheat Code devices like Game Genie and Aladdin Deck Enhancer. Later they were known for the Colin McRae Rally series and other motorsports titles, also known for get the Formula One license since The New '10s. The studio was sold to Electronic Arts in December 2020, and the sale was completed in February 2021.
