Big Nose Freaks Out is a Platform Game and sequel to Big Nose The Caveman, developed by Codemasters and published by Camerica. It was originally released in 1992 as an unlicensed game for the Nintendo Entertainment System and also found itself on the Aladdin Deck Enhancer.

The plot is pretty simple: a caveman named Bignose is on his way to the bank when he has his bone stolen by a dinosaur, and he goes on a quest to take it back.

The gameplay is somewhat reminiscent of Sonic the Hedgehog, which came out around the same time. Bignose zooms around his stone-board — the caveman equivalent of a skateboard — at high speeds to traverse the environment, which includes a lot of slopes and ramps. The goal is to get to the end of each stage while collecting bones for points. Progression through the game is nonlinear, and you can tackle the five stages in any order.

Tropes found in Big Nose Freaks Out

  • Anachronism Stew: Big Nose's prehistoric civilization has a Flintstones-esque society with modern conveniences and technology like banks, cars, factories, and hot air balloons. Big Nose himself rides around on the caveman equivalent of a skateboard.
  • Bamboo Technology: Big Nose has a skateboard made out of a plank of wood sitting unsecured on a single stone wheel. He even invented the wheel himself!
  • Excuse Plot: The short intro cutscene shows that Big Nose is on a quest to get back his bone after it was stolen by a dinosaur. That's it. Now go do some platforming!
  • Hollywood Prehistory: The game takes place in a prehistoric setting where man and dinosaur coexist.
  • Spoofs "R" Us: Right next door to the Savings and Bones bank is a store called Bones "R" Us.
