"Our sights are set for the top. Mansions in Berchem, penthouse in Algonquin... a model on each arm - me and my cousin Niko, rulers of the world!"

Raised in Serbia alongside Niko, his cousin, Roman was spared the harshest blows of the war when his mother used the last of her savings to send him to America. Settling in Liberty City without a dollar to his name, he worked his fingers to the bone trying to make an honest living. Eventually, he raised enough money to buy a run-down car, which he used as a cab, eventually earning enough to start his own cab company and purchase a meager dockside apartment. This success came at a cost, of course - he became addicted to gambling once he started to succeed in life, and soon found himself taking out loans from various criminal groups, most notably Mafiya enforcer Vlad Glebov. When Niko arrives in Liberty City, Roman gives him a place to stay and some work at the cab company, but Niko soon finds himself working to pay off Roman's various debts instead.

Roman is one of Niko's "friends" that the player can hang out with. Spending enough time with him rewards the player with access to free taxi rides from Roman's disgruntled employee, Mohammed.

  • Abusive Parents: It's implied that Roman's father was an abusive alcoholic, as was the father of Niko, his cousin.
  • And Your Little Dog, Too!: The Mafiya goes after him after they betray Niko. He loses his house and taxi depot to arson, he gets kidnapped by Johnny Klebitz, and if the player chooses the Deal Ending, he dies at the hands of Dimitri's hitman.
  • Badass Pacifist: Not badass to the extent his cousin is, but he still managed to build a business and a home after coming to America nearly penniless. He even admits to Niko that he had to sleep under his desk for a year until he could get the money for a proper place to live. On top of that, he's the only one able to steadfastly criticize Niko's criminal lifestyle to the latter's face. Additionally in the Revenge Ending, he goes along with Niko and Little Jacob in the Roaring Rampage of Revenge and while still a Non-Action Guy, never actually bails despite a hail of gunfire in their direction.
  • Big Fun: Unlike his cousin, Roman is chubby and has a cheery outlook on life.
  • Boisterous Weakling: He's loud, obnoxious, and willing to challenge anyone not from The Mafiya to a fight. He also has no fighting ability whatsoever.
  • Butt-Monkey: Roman takes a lot of flack for being fat, and this is before Niko arrived in Liberty City. Between getting chased by mobsters and losing his properties to arson, life has gotten steadily worse for him.
  • Casanova Wannabe: Constantly brags (falsely) about being a successful ladies' man despite only being seen in a relationship with Mallory. He is shown to be extremely excited, if not overjoyed when Luis lets him enter Maisonette 9, proudly yelling "HIDE YOUR TITTIES!" as he dances through the door. The ladies at the club are not at all impressed with him.
  • Cuckold: His girlfrind Mallorie has been sleeping with Vlad behind Roman's back at the start of the game. He is initially miserable when finding out and calls Niko "disloyal" for knowing about it and not telling him. When Niko decides to kill Vlad to prove he is not disloyal, Roman freaks out not wanting to mess with the Russian Mafia and tells Niko he is fine with having an open relationship with Mallorie and wouldn't mind seeing him and Vlad actually doing the deed just before being disgusted at the thought, proving that he genuinely cares about their relationship.
  • Cutting Off the Branches: He is still alive as of Grand Theft Auto V since Niko wishes him a happy birthday on LifeInvader, showing that the "Revenge" ending is canon.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Though he doesn't let it show as much, Roman experienced much of the same trauma as his cousin, who implies that Roman was a fellow child soldier, and when he finally made it to America, he was so poor he was borderline homeless, and that's not even getting into the fact that Niko found Roman's mother violently murdered a short while after Roman left.
  • Distressed Dude: Halfway through the game, he is kidnapped by Dimitri Rascalov's men and needs to be rescued by Niko.
  • Fast-Food Nation: Roman loves Burger Shot (the GTA Universe's equivalent of Burger King) and will be happy if Niko takes him there during an outing.
  • Fatal Flaw:
    • His gambling addiction ends up causing a huge amount of problems, to the point that he even gambles on the money Niko gives him. The Russian mob takes advantage of this by forcing Johnny Klebitz to kidnap him to pay off Ashley's debts, and Niko outright telling him to stop doing it since they already have enough problems to begin with. He finally gets the wake-up call when he has it spelt it out to him that his gambling addiction is becoming a huge problem.
    • He's also stupidly greedy. So greedy that he tries to convince Niko to forgive Dimitri and take his deal. Actually doing so results in his death, making it a literal fatal flaw.
  • The Gambling Addict: He frequents an illegal gambling den run by The Mafiya and is heavily in debt to various groups, such as the Faustin Bratva and the local Albanian hoods.
  • Happily Married: He marries Mallorie towards the end of the story, and in the Revenge ending he ends up as a soon-to-be father.
  • Heroic BSoD: He has one after his business and home are burnt down by Dimitri Rascalov's men.
  • Immigrant Patriotism: He cut practically all his ties to his native Serbia, and instead spends his time convincing Niko of the great opportunities awaiting them in America.
  • Irony: He encourages Niko to take the Deal for the money and ends up not only killed because of it, but also killed on his wedding day. Damn.
  • Kavorka Man: He looks like a fat, sweaty Slav in surplus clothing, but he managed to land Mallorie Bardas as a girlfriend and later, as a wife.
  • Large Ham: His loud, boisterous personality contrasts greatly with Niko's calmer demeanor, especially when he's drunk, as seen at the very beginning of the game.
  • Missing Mom: He believes his mother died in a house fire during The Yugoslav Wars. In a conversation with Kate, Niko reveals she was actually raped and murdered.
  • Mock Millionaire: In the past he frequently e-mailed Niko bragging about his life in America and how he lives in a mansion surrounded by sports cars and women, but upon moving in with him Niko finds out that his supposed fortune was all a fabrication.
  • Morality Pet: To Niko. His constantly cheery and upbeat attitude gives Niko some measure of hope that a life outside of crime is possible for them.
  • Murder by Mistake: In the Deal ending, he's accidentally shot at his and Mallorie's wedding when Niko gets into a struggle against an assassin sent to kill him.
  • Nice Guy: Always tries to stay positive, and never judges Niko for killing people, simply insisting there must be a better life for him.
  • Non-Action Guy: Has absolutely no combat training despite growing up in The Yugoslav Wars.
  • The Pollyanna: He never loses his optimism even after going through a string of tragedies that includes the destruction of his home and business, his abduction and torture at the hands of The Mafiya, and if the Revenge Ending is chosen, the murder of his cousin's girlfriend at his wedding.
  • Potty Failure: Roman wets and craps himself when he gets abducted by Johnny Klebitz. Its also mentioned he has bowel problems after getting shot by Faustin, though this may be more due to the horse tranquilizers they had him on for the pain than due to being shot.
  • Sad Clown: Roman has had a hard life, being involved with the Yugoslav war, living in poverty before and after arriving in America and being harassed by various thugs, not to mention the fact that his mother was raped and murderered shortly after he left her.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: His relationship with Niko subverts this. He's a loud, womanizing cab operator, while Niko is a polite, thoughtful hitman.
  • Someone to Remember Him By: After his untimely death in the Deal ending, Mallorie reveals to Niko that she's pregnant with his child.
  • Stealing the Credit: For the murder of Vlad, which was Niko's doing, mainly for the sake of impressing Mallorie.
  • The Taxi: He owns and operates a taxi depot. He also serves this purpose in gameplay, offering free taxi rides to Niko after his friendship stat reaches a high enough level. Niko can also take some fares as an early-game side hustle.
  • Too Dumb to Live:
    • A minor example. When he and Niko are kidnapped by Mikhail Faustin after murdering Vladmir Glebov, Roman has to be gagged because he couldn't stop screaming. When the gag is taken off after all danger is defused when Niko agrees to work with him, Roman resumes screaming for help at the top of his lungs, causing everyone in the room (including Niko) to tell him to shut up, and leading to a very trigger-happy Faustin shooting him in the guts. He gets medical treatment in time, but this could have easily been avoided altogether.
    • Towards the end of the game, Roman encourages Niko to make a deal with Dimitri, whom Roman knows is a treacherous scumbag who even threatened his life beforehand and predictably, tries to backstab Niko if he takes the deal. Roman is the one to pay with his life when an assassin crashes the party and guns him down.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: After being established as the game's Butt-Monkey, his fate takes a turn for the better when he gets a huge insurance payout for his destroyed cab depot. He promptly buys a new depot, a fleet of brand-new SUVs, and a swanky new apartment in Algonquin.
  • Ugly Guy, Hot Wife: Gets married in the penultimate mission to Mallorie Bardas.
  • Undying Loyalty: Just as Niko gets into a lot of dangerous situations just to save him, Roman does much the same; in the Revenge Ending, he willingly rides with Niko and Little Jacob to the abandoned Casino, and later returns aboard the Annihilator to help Niko climb inside in mid-air!
  • Wide-Eyed Idealist: He believes America is a paradise where a man like him can make a name for himself. The suffering he endures over the course of the game tones his attitude down somewhat, but he still prefers the opportunities he receives over living in his homeland, and his optimism never really goes away. If anything, it comes back with even more force in the later parts of the game, once he re-establishes his cab company, gets an upscale apartment in Algonquin and (assuming the Revenge ending is chosen, which is the canon ending) marries Mallorie.
  • You Are Fat: Several characters mock him for being overweight.

    Mallorie Bardas

Mallorie Bardas-Bellic

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/malloriebardas-artwork_5042.jpg
"I hope you're less full of shit than your cousin over here."
Voiced by: Elena Hurst

A Puerto Rican immigrant who came to America in her childhood, growing up in South Bohan. Living in the slums made life difficult, and many of her childhood friends turned to crime to sustain themselves - most notably drug lord Elizabeta Torres and former gangbanger Manny Escuela.

Mallorie avoided these temptations, however, her only notable crime being a single count of marijuana possession, and worked her way out of poverty through hard work and connections. Eventually, she became a secretary for Roman Bellic, and the two have been in a steady relationship for some time. Unfortunately, she has been sleeping with Russian gangster Vlad Glebov, though she does so mostly to keep Roman safe from him.

Eventually, Roman proposes to her, and she accepts. Unfortunately, their wedding day turns into a sour, bloody affair, with assassins targeting Niko regardless of the ending the player receives.

  • Actually Pretty Funny: She laughs along with Elizabeta and Packie at Niko's sardonic remark about Manny in "Luck of The Irish".
  • Babies Ever After: She's pregnant in either ending though how happy the news is depends on whether Roman lives or not.
  • Deadpan Snarker: She loves to make fun of Roman's tendency to lie.
  • Failed a Spot Check: She had no idea that Michelle was an undercover government agent.
  • Sassy Secretary: She works at Roman's cab company and loves making snarky comments towards him.
  • Scarpia Ultimatum: It is implied that she only had sex with Vlad so that he wouldn't hurt Roman.
  • Shipper on Deck: She encourages Niko and Michelle to go out on dates.
  • Ugly Guy, Hot Wife: She ends up marrying Roman, a stocky guy whose appearance is not the most flattering.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: She unknowingly gets Niko in a sticky situation with a secret government agency that gets him under their thumb by introducing him to Michelle.
  • Widowed at the Wedding: If you take the Deal, Roman dies on their wedding day, and she reveals to Niko that she is also pregnant with his child.

    Brucie Kibbutz

Bruce "Brucie" Kibbutz

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bruciekibbutz-artwork_4586.png
"Be genetically different, baby!"
Voiced by: Timothy Adams

A friend of Roman's, Brucie grew up miserable thanks to his weight and his abusive older brother, Mori. This constant torment caused a great deal of insecurities, but also spawned a strong determination to better himself, and help others do the same. To this end, he became a successful lifestyle coach, fitness instructor, car salesman and product spokesman, living a life of luxury from his penthouse in BOABO.

Unfortunately, he's got his share of problems - his love of fast cars and adrenaline led him to become involved in illegal street racing and car theft rings, and he spends much of his spare time shooting up Chilean steroids he buys online. The roid rages, combined with his insecurities and illegal activities, have made him fearful of being ratted out to the police, and he sends Niko to silence some witnesses that he fears may snitch on him.

Brucie is one of Niko's "friends" that the player can hang out with. Spending enough time with him rewards the player with access to free helicopter transport from the man himself.

For tropes relating to his appearance in Grand Theft Auto V, see his entry in this character sheet.

  • Ambiguously Bi: Brucie states that he likes women, but there is a lot of subtext to his macho-man antics.
  • Attention Whore: Be it with female company or with Niko, whenever he's speaking with someone, he always tries to make the conversation about himself.
  • Beneath the Mask: His appearance in Ballad alongside his brother Mori reveals his more timid, insecure side due to the latter's bullying.
  • Big Little Brother: He is notably taller than Mori. Mori still gets away with pushing him around though.
  • Boisterous Weakling: He considers himself a Boisterous Bruiser, but several situations show that he's absolutely incapable of defending himself in a fight.
  • Character Catchphrase:
    • "GENETICALLY DIFFERENT!"
    • "ICE COLD!"
  • Culture Blind: His tattoos in Chinese include one saying "人妖(ex-male)" and one "二打六(two bit actor)".
  • The Dog Bites Back: After putting up with Mori's abuse for so long, he (accidentally) decks him in the face which breaks his nose. Mori had it coming for being a dick to Luis and Brucie for so long, it becomes cathartic for the player to see Brucie stand up for himself.
  • Dumbass Has a Point: Despite his own Dumb Muscle tendencies, even he knows Roman has a gambling problem, and that he needs help.
  • Formerly Fat: He mentions in one of his friendship activities that he used to be a "fat loser" that "no girl would want to date."
  • Freudian Excuse: In his own words, he was "a fat loser" as a child, which is one of the main reasons he is obsessed with fitness and his looks. His bullying older brother Mori also contributed a lot to this.
  • Gym Bunny: Strongly implied to be bisexual, even if, as noted below, he furiously denies it.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: All the murders he ordered Niko to commit were unnecessary, and he only ordered them due to roid rage. Niko stopped doing jobs for him after learning this.
  • Have I Mentioned I Am Heterosexual Today?: Brucie constantly asserts that he is straight and denies others' claims that he is a closeted homosexual.
  • Ice-Cream Koan: Being a self-proclaimed lifestyle coach, he dispenses a lot of nuggets of "wisdom" to Niko. Unfortunately, his advice is either impractical or illogical.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Brucie is egotistical, domineering and very brash, but he genuinely cares about his friends and respects them. He's certainly better than his brother Mori.
  • Large Ham: Whenever he raves about how awesome he is, and that's very often, he does it at the top of his lungs.
  • Lovable Jock: He tries to appear like the quintessential alpha male fitness buff, but Niko finds that he's mostly harmless and a pretty dependable friend at times.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: He has quite a lot in common with the British life-style coach and millionaire Scott Alexander, to the point where some of his catchphrases are lifted more or less directly from Alexander's.
  • No Indoor Voice: He speaks boisterously on purpose to make himself the center of attention.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: If Roman dies, his voice is clearly upset compared to his usual energetic vibe.
  • Sad Clown: Especially in Gay Tony, where he is revealed to have deep-seated insecurities fostered by his brother, Mori.
  • Shirtless Scene: He loves it when people see him working out, so this is bound to happen.
  • Testosterone Poisoning: A literal example, due to steroid abuse, but also exemplified through his nonstop working out, Cool Cars, and bombastic way with the ladies.
  • Warp Whistle: Once you get his Like stat high enough, he will offer to ferry you around in his chopper for free.

    Mohammed

Mohammed

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mohammed_gtaiv.jpg
"I must get one of those tree-shaped air fresheners if I am going to be ferrying around dirt bags like you."
Voiced by: Manish Dayal

A cab driver that works for Roman. He serves as Niko's personal chauffeur as part of Roman's free cab service. He has a very hostile temper towards Niko, viewing him as a "freeloader" for taking taxi rides without paying him.

  • Berserk Button: Niko's presence alone seems to be this since he takes free cab rides which Mohammed views as wasting his time and money.
  • Bullying the Dragon: You'd think twice before repeatedly insulting a guy you know to be involved in criminal activity like Niko (let alone someone who is a One-Man Army) to his face.
  • The Casanova: Says that he doesn't really drive his cab because of the pay, but because of the women he gets to sleep with.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: He's briefly mentioned in the opening cutscene of "Jamaican Heat" by Roman.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: It's implied he might have had a criminal past, as he tells Niko that he has "seen and done all kinds of crazy shit" and that he only took a job as a cab driver to make his wife shut up. It's pretty telling that he can also notice that Niko has been doing his own kind of shady stuff in the game.
  • Disappeared Dad: He estimates that with all his adulterous activity, he has six children.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Its very easy to piss him off; ask him to change the radio or your destination and he will complain. Stay in front of his car and he will threaten to run you over.
  • Happily Married: In a weird way. He does love his wife because she takes care of him, but he's unfaithful to her because he likes sleeping with women.
  • Hypocrite: He makes no attempt at hiding his contempt for driving Niko around after the first trip, yet he cries foul when the latter suggests talking to Roman about getting one of his other drivers to drive Niko around.
  • Implied Death Threat: In his last conversation, Niko subtly warns him to stop talking or else.
Mohammed: I only started driving this cab to make my wife shut up. You can't go around busting caps in people when you got responsibilities.
Niko: Perhaps you shouldn't go around busting caps in people regardless of your responsibilites.
Mohammed: Haha! That's fucking funny. Next thing you are going to tell me I shouldn't be having extra-marital affairs. You got to do that shit to survive, my friend.
Niko: Of course. And to help your survival, you should just stick to driving this car, man.
  • Jerkass: While not readily apparent from his first interaction where he is relatively civil, he turns hostile towards Niko in subsequent appearances, throwing insults like "dog lover" or "freeloader" among other pleasant things.
  • Non-Specifically Foreign: It's clear from his name and accent that he's not American, but it's never specified where he's from.
  • Put on a Bus: He disappears for a time after Roman's depot is burned down and doesn't return until the Algonquin safehouse is unlocked. He now drives a Cavalcade.
  • Sex for Services: He brags about allowing his female passengers to pay for their fare with their bodies.
  • Video Game Cruelty Potential: Even if he is killed or carjacked by Niko, he will spawn again when called up which allows players to take out their frustration on him without worry.

The Old Country (MAJOR SPOILERS)

    Florian Cravic

Florian "Bernie Crane" Cravic

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/iv_florian_cravic2_6339.png
"Screw you, Niko Bellic and fatty Roman! It wasn't me. It wasn't! I wouldn't do that!"
Voiced by: Timothy J. Alex

A childhood friend of Niko and Roman, who grew up in the same Serbian village as them. Desiring to be a wrestler or a shepherd, he and the rest of the village boys got along well with the Bellics, until the war came. Drafted into the fighting as a teenager, he was assigned to the same squad as his village friends, but fled the country after the ambush that left most of the squad dead.

One of Niko's two suspects as the traitor, Niko eventually tracks him down to his apartment in Middle Park, Algonquin. However, not only is he not the traitor, but he has changed radically since the war. Turns out he was a deeply closeted homosexual for his entire childhood, and after moving to Liberty City, he reinvented himself as a flamboyant lifestyle coach and gay rights activist.

Unfortunately, his secret affair with conservative politican Bryce Dawkins has earned him a great deal of enemies, and Niko resolves to help his old friend out as an apology for suspecting him.

  • Accent Slip-Up: When he's angered by Niko accusing him of betraying their squad, his high-pitched voice briefly shifts into what is presumably his natural Serbian accent. He does it again when Niko asks Florian if he knows where Darko is now, to which Florian immediately barks out that he hopes he's dead.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Completing his missions rewards you with a unique orange or orange-red Infernus.
  • Berserk Button: Mentioning the war or the ambush which wiped out his and Niko's friends. His voice takes on a harsher tone with an increased Slavic accent whenever he is angry.
  • Camp Gay: Dear lord. He's so camp, he uses the game's female animation set. It is implied that Bernie deliberately exaggerates these traits, since his high-pitched voice is clearly just an act.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: To most people, he's an unbearably camp gay stereotype of a man. However, the fact that he faced the same trauma that completely broke Niko, and still managed to become a happy, well-adjusted person means the man's incredibly resilient. It should also be noted that he's a veteran of the Yugoslav war, so this dude probably did his share of fighting back in the day.
  • Do Not Call Me "Paul": His trauma from the war has caused him to completely reject his old life, and he now prefers to be called "Bernie Crane." However, he does like to be called by his former name in... certain situations.
  • Five-Second Foreshadowing: The name of the mission where you first see him gives away his name and lifestyle change if you know the Weekend at Bernie's reference it alludes to. Alternatively, you can browse the LCPD database through a computer and read the "Crane, Bernie" profile.
  • Foil: Been through the same shit Niko and Darko went through, but unlike them, reinvented/freed himself in America and is living the high life. Niko may be the Player Character, but Bernie truly won the game.
  • Girly Run: The way he jogs. It involves a lot of Milking the Giant Cow.
  • Lovable Coward: Despite being a bit of a defenseless wuss, he's still impeccably friendly and affable.
  • Misplaced Retribution: Very nearly becomes the recipient of this, courtesy of Niko, as he is one of the two suspects Niko is chasing down for the betrayal of their squad. Once he proves his innocence, Niko warms up to him.
  • Nice Guy: Florian, despite fighting in the war that broke Niko Bellic, still manages to be a happy, healthy individual, and even rewards Niko with an expensive sports car for the latter's support.
  • No Indoor Voice: A part of his campy persona.
  • Shell-Shocked Veteran: Served alongside Niko in the very same squad. He is definitely haunted by his experiences, but unlike Niko and Darko, he managed to deal with his grief in a constructive manner.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: He appears only in a few missions and phone calls, but hunting him down is the entire reason why Niko ends up in America.
  • Straight Gay: In his youth. He was a lot less flamboyant back in the Old Country, likely to avoid homophobia. In fact, he even wanted to become a professional wrestler and also worked in the abbatoir.

    Darko Brevic

Darko Brevic

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/darko_brevic_9999.png
"How much do you charge to kill someone?"
Voiced by: Michael Medeiros

A war criminal of the Yugoslav Wars and another one of Niko's childhood friends from the village. The horrors of the war hit him the hardest of all the boys, sadly, and he turned to drugs to keep the terror at bay. Despite this, he served alongside Niko, Florian and the others and fought bravely, until he was separated from them in the ambush that left most of the squad dead.

One of Niko's two suspects as the traitor, Darko's location is unknown for most of the game, and as such, Niko instead searches for Florian, who he knows lives in Liberty City. Once Niko finds Florian a changed man, however, he deduces that Darko is the traitor, and has him brought to America as a favor from the U.L. Paper Contact. It is revealed that Darko's now-crippling drug problems are what caused him to sell out the squad, betraying his childhood friends for a mere 1000 dollars.

From there, Niko is given the choice to either execute him or leave him to his suicidal misery. The choice does not impact which ending the player receives, but regardless of the outcome, Niko takes a major emotional blow as he discovers that Vengeance Feels Empty.

  • Arch-Enemy: To Niko. In a dialogue, Niko mentions that both he and Dimitri Rascalov are at the top of his list.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: "How much do you charge to kill someone?"
  • Balkan Bastard: A veteran of the Yugoslav wars, who's killed plenty of people for selfish reasons.
  • Comically Small Bribe: The fact that he was willing to lead 14 of his childhood friends to their death for a mere thousand dollars...
  • Cruel Mercy: If you decide to let him live, he'll disappear into the streets of Liberty City, alone and afraid.
  • Cycle of Revenge: Niko's squad killed his neighbors. In turn, he betrayed the squad to the enemy and got everyone but Niko and Florian killed. This leads to Niko trying to hunt him down and make him pay for what he did. Whether Niko actually perpetuate the cycle or not is up to the player.
  • Dangerous Deserter: After betraying Niko and their squad, he fled to Bucharest to sate his heroin addiction.
  • Death Seeker: If you choose to kill him, he thanks Niko for ending his suffering.
  • Drugs Are Bad: How bad? He sold out The Squad because he needed to pay for his next fix of heroin. By the time Niko meets him in Liberty City, he is a twitchy, disheveled mess who begs Niko to kill him.
  • Evil Counterpart: Invoked in his "Not So Different" Remark to Niko. He points out that they both have killed plenty of people for measly amounts of money to further a petty goal. They even look quite similar.
  • Evil Former Friend: Each of the 14 other men in his squad, including Niko, were his childhood friends, but he sold them out for drug money all the same.
  • Face–Heel Turn: Used to be friends with Niko, Florian and the rest of the squad fighting alongside him, but the war made him nihilistic and caused his betrayal.
  • Fate Worse than Death:
    • It's clear that Darko prefers death over living, Roman even lampshades this.
Darko: Kill me then! Trust me, you'll be doing me a favor! (Screams)
Roman: Niko, come on, let him suffer. He knows what he did. He doesn't look like he enjoys life too much.
    • Niko choosing to spare Darko will have the latter stuck in a completely foreign and unfamiliar place, alone, afraid, and unsure of what to do or who to trust.
  • Freudian Excuse: He goes through a lot of excuses when explaining his betrayal, like shouldering his addiction and/or the fact that members of his squad had killed his neighbors and friends.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: He doesn't participate directly in the game's events in any capacity, yet the whole reason Niko arrived in America in the first place was to find and kill him.
  • Knight of Cerebus: His only appearance in "That Special Someone" is perhaps one of the darkest and most dramatic moments in the franchise.
  • Living MacGuffin: Finding and confronting him compose a big part of Niko's motivation in coming to Liberty City, and one way or another, his direct impact on Niko's life ends after he is found.
  • Multiple Gunshot Death: Niko can choose to execute him, shooting him 12 times: once for each friend he let die.
  • Mercy Kill: Killing Darko actually seems like this for Darko. He even thanks Niko with his last breath.
    Darko: Thank you...
  • Made of Iron: If a Desert Eagle is chosen as the execution weapon, Niko has to empty an entire magazine of it to put him down. Nearly all of the shots hit center mass and this guy is still conscious enough to speak after the 7th time.
  • Not Worth Killing: When The Contact flies him in to Liberty City as payment for Niko's service, Niko can choose to spare him, citing this trope as the reason.
  • Revenge: Money and addiction weren't his only reasons for betraying the squad; they'd also killed other people he knew, including, quite possibly, innocent civilians.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: He makes only one appearance in the game, but the plot of Grand Theft Auto IV wouldn't have even happened without him.
  • Straw Nihilist: Because of experiences, his outlook on life is very bleak.
  • Turn Coat: He sold out his friends for drug money.
  • Walking Spoiler: He's the one who betrayed Niko's squad.
  • Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: He committed some very inhuman acts, but as Niko established, fighting in The Yugoslav Wars will erode a person's humanity. It's clear that he just couldn't withstand the suffering as well as Niko or Florian did.

Hillside Posse

A Jamaican gang specializing in the marijuana trade.

    Little Jacob

"Little" Jacob Hughes

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/littlejacob-artwork_7640.jpg
"Ya can't shake no hands when your fist be clenched. Ya hear me, breda?"
Voiced by: Coolie Ranx

Second-in-command of the Hillside Posse. He maintains the gang's drug and arms trafficking operations. He is one of Roman Bellic's regular clients, using the latter's cabs in drug deals.

Jacob is one of Niko's "friends" that the player can hang out with. Spending enough time with him rewards the player with a selection of discounted weapons, sold from the trunk of Jacob's car.

  • Aborted Arc: While hanging out with him, he occasionally talks about his strained relationship with Badman and how the latter has started to become violently paranoid after mixing other stuff in with his weed. This rivalry is never resolved during the events of the game.
  • Ace Pilot: Commandeers an Annihilator during the game's final mission, safely catching Niko after the latter performs a daring jump and keeping pace with their escaping target:either Dimitri in a helicopter or a Pegorino in a speedboat.
  • Arms Dealer: He sells illegal weapons from the trunk of his car. He will offer to sell these to you at discounted prices once you reach a high enough Like stat with him.
  • Bash Brothers: With Niko. When they first meet, he's just one of Roman's regular customers. By the end of the game, he's got Niko's back as the latter storms Dimitri or Pegorino's hideout.
  • Beard of Evil: Has a goatee.
  • Cool Shades: His black glasses with orange lenses.
  • Dreadlock Rasta: Unlike Badman, he lets his dreads hang loose, befitting his faith.
  • Dreadlock Warrior: He doesn't hide his hair, even on occasions wherein he expects hostilities.
  • Erudite Stoner: Never fails to dispense nuggets of wisdom even when heading into shady dealings.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: According to Badman in his random encounter, Jacob has a girlfriend that he loves very much and often treats to gifts.
  • Hidden Badass: He certainly doesn't look very threatening, but he can definitely keep up with Niko in a fight, and provides valuable backup for the latter on many jobs.
  • Improbable Aiming Skills: Manages to shoot down a helicopter with an RPG while hanging outside of a moving helicopter on usually his second or third try. In the Deal Ending, he manages to shoot down an enemy helicopter with a Micro Uzi while flying inside his own chopper.
  • Intelligible Unintelligible: Lampshaded when Elizabeta calls Niko and tells him that Jacob is there and asks him to report to her immediately, since she heard that apparently he can actually understand Jacob.
    • Hilariously, Jacob has to act as a translator for the even more unintelligible Badman.
  • The Lancer: Out of all of Niko's friends, he is the most involved in Niko's work, providing support on many missions. He's even the one who tips Niko off to Dimitri or Pegorino's location in the Deal and Revenge endings, respectively.
  • Number Two: To Real Badman in the Hillside Posse.
  • Oral Fixation: He almost always appears with a lit fattie in his mouth.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Shorter than Niko and of much slighter build, but just as badass. "Little Jacob" isn't an Ironic Nickname in his case.
  • Religious Bruiser: Is a Rastafarian and takes his faith quite seriously, but is very competent in combat and will not hesitate to kill if prodded.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: His favorite eating place is Cluckin' Bell.
  • Translator Buddy: Fulfils this role in conversations between Niko and Badman, since Niko has problems understanding Badman's Jamaican Patois.

Leader of the Hillside Posse.

  • Drugs Are Bad: A minor case as Little Jacob says that whatever weed he's smoking has made him paranoid.
  • The Unintelligible: Little Jacob has to translate for him. Justified in that they are actually speaking different dialects.
  • Younger Than He Looks: He looks like he is in his late forties or early fifties, but according to the LCPD database he's actually 27.

The Lost MC

Johnny Klebitz's biker gang.

    In General

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_lost_mc.png
"The Almighty forgives, the Lost don't."

  • Arch-Enemy: The Angels of Death serve as the Lost MC's greatest rivals. Trevor Philips in Grand Theft Auto V takes over their place.
  • Badass Crew: The Lost MC already consists of a couple One Man Armies, which together makes them unstoppable.
  • Band of Brothers: Oh so very much. Hell, their name is derived from the founders' fallen comrades in the war and named the gang in their honor. Their secondary motto is "Brothers for life, lost forever".
  • Breaking the Fellowship: By the end of their expansion, the Lost MC are pretty much gone with only Johnny, Terry, Angus and Clay left as all other members died during their Civil War.
  • Decapitated Army: After Johnny was killed by Trevor in the sequel, The Lost MC's M.O changed to avenging their fallen leader until Trevor either killed them all or sent a clear enough message for them to back off.
  • Equal-Opportunity Evil: In contrast to the Angels of Death (who are white supremacists), the Lost MC are more welcoming, with Johnny (Jewish), Clay (a black man) and Jim (mixed-race) as high-ranking brothers within the group, as well as the disabled, wheelchair-bound Angus serving as their mechanic (although Angus was a fully abled member until he was crippled in an accident). However while the club as a whole is more inclusive overall, this doesn't mean they don't have individually bigoted members such as Brian or Billy.
  • From Camouflage to Criminal: Their original founders were this at least; they were former US Marines who met in Hanoi, Vietnam and after the war ended, started a gang as they continued thirsting for drugs and violence. As for their current incarnation, Jim and Clay originally belonged to the USMC and the US army respectively and now use their skills to help the Lost.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: They were based on the real-life biker gang the Outlaws, even borrowing their official motto "The Almighty Forgives, the Lost Don't".

    Billy Grey

William "Billy" Grey

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/billy-grey-001_2756.jpg
"The Almighty forgives, Johnny. The Lost don't."
Voiced by: Lou Sumrall

The official president of the Lost MC's Alderney chapter and a childhood friend of Johnny Klebitz. He has recently been released from rehab and is eager to regain control over his gang.

  • Addled Addict: Just about all of his bad decisions can be attributed to his prodigious drug use.
  • All Bikers are Hells Angels: He's an outlaw president gone mad.
  • Ax-Crazy: He's an incredibly unstable lunatic who recklessly engages in acts of violence without warning. Years of drug abuse have not been kind to his mental health.
  • Backstab Backfire: Tried to set up a deal with the Triads for them to kill Johnny and Jim during the heroin deal. Not only did they survive the Triad's ambush, but the commotion winds up drawing police attention, leading to him getting arrested by the LCPD for sticking around to watch the carnage.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: While he is killed by Johnny, the damage he caused was so irreversible to everyone in his gang that nothing was ever the same again. He caused both directly and indirectly all the problems that led the Lost MC to its eventual defeat, and this domino effect is still seen five years later. To add insult to injury, a conversation between two bikers that can be overheard by Trevor in the mission "Friends Reunited" implies that Billy's posthumous reputation is fully intact among the Lost, while Johnny's name is mud.
  • Beard of Evil: Has a thick beard, and is horribly evil.
  • Big Bad: Of The Lost And Damned.
  • The Caligula: His defining attribute, and the reason why he often clashes with Johnny's Pragmatic Villainy.
  • Defiant to the End: When Johnny confronts him in prison, Billy merely stands there with his arms outstretched, accepting death as it comes. He even tries to stab Johnny with a knife because he was stalling, forcing Johnny to finally shoot him.
  • Drugs Are Bad: Johnny attributes his unstable personality to his drug use. Given he'd just gotten out of rehab for heroin addiction, directly states that he smokes meth and spikes his pot with mescaline, this could be true.
  • Establishing Character Moment: When he is first introduced, Billy seems to be a very mellow, mild-mannered criminal who is on the path to reform, although he sneaks a snide remark at a parole officer while sweet-talking his sponsor. When they return to the clubhouse, he initially asks Johnny where his bike is before getting angry that they sold it to cover his legal fees, telling him off while referring to him as "friend" and "brother" in between, showing that while Billy can act nice and reasonable when he feels it'll suit his purposes, it's just a mask.
    • It also shows how short-sighted he is, despite being the gang's leader. Instead of at least recognizing the necessity of selling his bike to avoid 15 years in prison, he is completely ungrateful and unconcerned when Johnny reminds him of people he maimed and killed with the bike, including the son of the Angels of Death, which made appeasing them necessary. Billy routinely ignores the consequences of his actions and does as he pleases, completely apathetic to any harm that's inflicted on those around him.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: He's an evil asshole, who only cares about himself, and is willing to betray his most loyal followers. However, he's against taking bikes from others. Heard when fighting the Angels of Death, where he yelled out "You don't take another man's bike!".
  • Eviler than Thou: It's justified. Johnny was nothing more than a pawn to Billy. Johnny was a loyal guy, doing the best for the people he cared about, while Billy had planned to stab him in the back in the mean time.
  • Exact Words: "I'm not going back to prison." The other Lost members, and most players, assumed that he'd meant he wouldn't let himself be taken alive if it came to that, not that he'd be willing to rat out the whole club to avoid serving any more time.
  • Face Death with Dignity: Just about the only good thing he does over the story. When you find him after breaking into prison to silence him, he readies himself for the bullet and tells you he isn't bothering with a Final Speech.
  • Face–Heel Turn: Betrays the Lost MC for his own selfish gain.
  • Facial Markings: His most identifiable feature is a skull tattoo on his forehead, in case you forget what sort of person he is.
  • False Friend: The epitome of this. It's even revealed in The Ballad of Gay Tony that Billy had actually arranged for the Triads to kill Johnny in the failed drug deal.
  • A Father to His Men: All of the Lost feel this way about him. They're wrong to do so.
  • For the Evulz: The whole reason why Johnny goes against his decisions, as all of them are just destructive and impulsive crimes Billy does for the sake of his amusement.
  • Hate Sink: More and more as the storyline progresses. When Jason Michaels is killed by Niko Bellic, Billy Grey lies and says the Angels of Death killed him, using this as an excuse to steal their heroin. It turns out the heroin belonged to the Liberty City Triads who demand it be returned. Jim and Johnny manage to convince Billy to do so, but not before he makes a deal with the Triads so that they kill Jim and Johnny when the two go to return it. Fortunately, they fight their way out, and Billy gets arrested by the LCPD that the Triads tipped off (while blaming Johnny for it). Billy's imprisonment causes Brian, his most loyal follower, and the members who were also loyal to Billy to betray the other members of the club, which starts a civil war. Finally, he decides to testify against the Lost in order to be released from prison (even after stressing the importance of loyalty to Johnny). This prompts the Lost to break into the prison Billy's being held at in order to silence him. During his last moments, he goads Johnny into executing him before attempting to stab him with a shank. Violent, hedonistic, and utterly psychopathic, Billy is one of the few characters in the Grand Theft Auto franchise to have absolutely zero redeeming qualities, and whose loyalty lies only towards himself. Oh, and he brags about banging Johnny's girlfriend Ashley to his face.
  • The Hedonist: The only things he seems to care about besides himself are bikes, drinking, sex, violence and drugs, usually all at once.
  • Hookers and Blow: Basically his entire lifestyle.
  • Hypocrite: Despite stressing the value of loyalty while he was still president, he decides to rat the Lost out in exchange for a pardon after he is imprisoned again. Naturally, the Lost don't take this sitting down and resolve to break into prison and kill him.
  • It's All About Me: Billy is a total egomaniac.
  • Jerkass: He's a rude, disrespectful jerk to just about everyone he meets, and is completely willing to betray his loyal followers, for himself.
    • Jerk with a Heart of Jerk: Despite his crude demeanor, he seems to care about his comrades...until he decides to sell them out to get leniency from the state.
    • Took a Level in Jerkass: In the past. It has been implied that though he was still a terrible person, he was once a good President who cared about his brothers, until he got out of rehab and became an unstable and heartless Jerk with a Heart of Jerk.
  • Kick the Dog: Even before he uses a brother dying to justify a gang war to steal heroin, sets up Johnny to die at the hands of the Triads, and rats out of the club, he makes you hate him by bragging how he banged Ashley repeatedly while she and Johnny were still together to Johnny's face.
  • Lack of Empathy: He doesn't give a damn about who gets affected by his selfish actions, even if it's the rest of the club.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Gets arrested by the police while watching the massacre he sent Johnny and Jim to be killed in. He's promptly blamed for it.
  • Laughably Evil: Subverted. His dialogue and antics would actually be hilarious if they weren't so self-destructive or detrimental to the club.
  • No Historical Figures Were Harmed: Billy bears a strong visual resemblance to Charles Manson in his old days. They have similar facial features and similarly cropped hair and grey beard. Perhaps most significantly, Manson has a small, crudely tattooed swastika in the exact same spot where Billy has a small, crudely tattooed skull.
  • Only Known By His Nickname: He's rarely, if ever, called by his real name William.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: He calls a Triad a "yellow little devil" to his face and says that he loved watching his people (the Chinese) die on TV. Also when selling out Johnny to the Triads in The Ballad of Gay Tony, he tells them he got no use for a Jew bastard like him.
  • Psychopathic Manchild: He acts and sounds like an dangerously immature brat in a grown man's body, almost seeming like he wants to recapture the glory days of his wild youth.
  • Punctuated! For! Emphasis!: Has a habit of speaking this way.
  • Revenge Before Reason: He swiftly restarts the war with The Angels of Death after his release from prison because he found out that his bike was given to them as a peace offering while he was inside, and he wants it back.
  • Sadist: Smashing a mallet against the face of an already injured man is a prime example.
  • Screaming Warrior: He screams a lot, especially in combat.
  • The Sociopath: Johnny eventually realizes the hard way that his childhood friend Billy has become this at heart. He cares little for others, acts without thinking of the consequences and constantly and needlessly put his club in danger for profit and other forms of self-destructive hedonism. And when it all comes crashing down on him, he eventually decides to rat out his own club,(again, some of which were his childhood friends) to save his own skin.
  • The Stool Pigeon: Very nearly testifies as a state witness against the Lost as part of his Face–Heel Turn.
  • Too Dumb to Live: As soon as he finds out the Johnny ended the war, Billy starts the war again, resulting in both himself and the rest of the lost getting in alot of trouble. He then betrays the Lost for his own cause, only to get killed due to his betrayal. Also, just as he was going back from rehab, he starts taking drugs again!
  • Turn Coat: The fact that he's actively facilitating the Lost's capture at the hands of the police doesn't bother him one bit.
  • Toxic Friend Influence: Billy is the reason Johnny got introduced to the biker lifestyle.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: After leaving prison, it doesn't take long for him to get nasty on Johnny, the same guy who: A) led the Lost in his absence, B) did everything in his power to fund his legal defense while keeping a truce with the Angels of Death, and C) is his best friend. He gets aggressive fast when asking him for where his bike is, and demands Johnny reclaim it, never mind the fact that his drug use and reckless driving got him sent to prison and forced the Lost to offer it to the Angels of Death as a peace offering. To make matters worse, he tries to throw said friend under the bus, first setting up an ambush with the Triads, then by trying to rat him and the rest of the gang out to the law. Many words belong in Billy's vocabulary, but gratitude certainly doesn't.
  • Villainous Legacy: His betrayal hit the Lost hard. Even after his death, most of the chapter refused to believe Billy was planning to betray all of them, causing a major split in the gang. This led to massive hindrance to Johnny's plans to expand, making him settle in Blaine County, San Andreas, where he partners with a certain Trevor Philips, who ends the rest of the chapter in 2013 with extreme prejudice.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: He brutally smashes a mallet in Pretty Boy's face after he told the Lost where Billy's bike was.
  • Younger Than They Look: He looks like a man in his late 40s or early 50s. He's 37. Drug use hasn't been kind to his looks, either.

    Jim Fitzgerald

James "Jim" Fitzgerald

"If it ain't one load of bullshit, it's a God damn n'other."
Voiced by: Dennis Predovic (GTA IV) & Chris McKinney (TLAD)

The treasurer of the Lost MC's Alderney chapter. He is Johnny Klebitz's best friend and serves as an unofficial advisor during the latter's stint as acting president.

Jim is one of Johnny's "friends" that the player can hang out with, but will not be available after his death. Unlike Niko's friends, these activities are completely optional, and do not offer rewards.

  • Affably Evil: Like Johnny, he's one of the more patient, (most of the time) pleasant, stable, and understanding Lost MC Members.
  • Ambiguously Brown: According to the GTA Wiki he is a Hispanic Irish-American.
  • Action Dad: He has talked about his wife and child several times in the game.
  • Badass Bookworm: Proved to be pretty cunning, when dealing with cops.
  • Badass Biker: Naturally.
  • Bodyguarding a Badass: Well, he's very protective of Johnny.
  • Cerebus Retcon: invoked The bald, white biker that Niko kills in an infuriating bike chase on the subway is retconned to be Jim. Then you experience it from Johnny's perspective.
  • The Dragon: Becomes this to Johnny.
  • Determinator: Getting half of his face burned off by a blowtorch didn't stop him from escaping the place and riding his bike right after.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: His wife and kids.
  • Happily Married: For which he never stops getting crap from the other club members.
  • Henpecked Husband: Though he and his wife genuinely love each other, she still gives him crap for being an outlaw.
  • Race Lift: Jim was changed from white to mixed race when he got a bigger role.
  • The Lancer: First to Billy, but becomes this to Johnny.
  • Made of Iron: Surprising, considering he isn't a protagonist. Half his face gets roasted with a blowtorch, but a few minutes later, he's in good shape for a motorcycle chase. Sadly, he gets killed, but the guy chasing him was Niko Bellic, so that was to be expected. However, Niko's shots didn't do any damage on him, until he hit the train.
  • Only Sane Man: He and Johnny are the only Lost MC Members who realize how stupid gang war is. They're also the only ones who speak up, and stand up to Billy, who's just a borderline psychopath.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: Shares this trait with Johnny, refusing to engage in criminal acts just for the heck of it and wanting to think things through.
  • Sacrificial Lion: Is killed near the end of The Lost and Damned by Niko Bellic on the orders of Ray Boccino and his death is treated as a big player punch
  • The Smart Guy: He's described as the "thinking type of maniac".
  • Semper Fi: A retired Marine.
  • The Stoic: He doesn't lose his temper as often as his brothers do.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Johnny.
  • You Don't Look Like You: You'd be forgiven for not knowing Jim was present in the original game all along given that he looks absolutely nothing like his final look in The Lost and the Damned since he is bald, fat, Caucasian and lacks his iconic bandana.

"Class is out, brother. Tell your daddy what you learned today."
Voiced by: Keith Smith

The road captain of the Lost MC's Alderney chapter and friend to Johnny Klebitz.

Clay is one of Johnny's "friends" that the player can hang out with. Unlike Niko's friends, these activities are completely optional, and do not offer rewards.

For tropes relating to his appearance in Grand Theft Auto V, see his entry in this character sheet.

  • Badass Biker: he's one of the more ruthless members, and prefers to ride fast.
  • Bodyguarding a Badass: Like Jim and Clay, he gives Johnny backup pretty reguarly.
  • The Big Guy: He's the real extremist of the Lost MC.
  • Cool Old Guy: He was apparently old enough to fight in Vietnam, and stood guard at the U.S embassy during the fall of Saigon in 1975.
  • Kavorka Man: To the extent that he was able to get into bed with a lady from the Angels Of Death.
  • Nominal Hero: Despite his loyalty for the Lost MC, Clay states that he joined the army just because he likes war.
  • Old Soldier: He fought in Vietnam.
  • Intergenerational Friendship: With Terry. Since Clay served in the military two years before Terry was even born, there is at least a twenty-year age gap between them.
  • Psycho for Hire: You can call him and Terry whenever you need backup to murder someone and he will enjoy killing anyone as long as they're not a Lost MC member.
  • The Quiet One: He never speaks in any cutscenes, and notes to Johnny that he prefers to leave the club's politics to the others.
  • Screaming Warrior: Despite the above, however, when he's actually heard saying something, he's always yelling. Also, sometimes when he's in the back of a Van riding from the cops, he's just heard screaming at the other members to shoot without doing anything himself, despite his weapons being fully loaded.
  • Scary Black Man: Bloodthirsty and ruthless.
  • Shotguns Are Just Better: Clay's weapons of choice are shotguns and as he levels up his shotguns get bigger and stronger.
  • Those Two Guys: He never does anything without Terry.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Johnny and Terry.

Brian Jeremy

"I was being a good soldier. Following my leader."
Voiced by: Adrian Martinez

The secretary of the Lost MC's Alderney chapter.

  • All Bikers are Hells Angels: Downplayed due to being an honorless stuttering, backstabbing coward.
  • Ambiguously Gay: He scoffs at the notion of having any sort of girlfriend, and Johnny clearly believes this to be the reason.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: Tries to become the new Big Bad after Billy is arrested, but he doesn't last very long. He is pretty much dealt with in the following mission after turning most of the Brotherhood against Johnny.
  • Boisterous Weakling: That's what he's known for.
  • Bumbling Sidekick: He's Billy's bitch.
  • Chronic Backstabbing Disorder: He becomes the starscream of everyone he starts to fear. He even tried blaming Billy, just to justify himself.
  • Dirty Coward: He's willing to lie, kiss ass, and stab people in the back if it means saving his own skin.
  • Fat Bastard: And everyone talks about that he is one.
  • Four Eyes, Zero Soul: He wears glasses, and he's a total asshole.
  • The Farmer and the Viper: If Johnny offers to spare him, he does out of pity for Brian and chooses to exile him instead. How does Brian repay his mercy? By trying to lead Johnny into an ambush and kill him again.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: With the exception of Billy, everyone despises Brian for being a spineless, annoying boot-licker. Everyone either talks down to him or verbally abuses him. Even Billy doesn't exactly respect him. It's a miracle he even is able to rally anyone in the Lost to follow him when Billy goes to jail.
  • Hate Sink: An annoying, bigoted, uncool, cowardly and incredibly irritating man who is always antagonizing Johnny, even for very pathetic reasons. Sure, he talks tough, but when the gunfight starts, he runs and hides.
  • Jerkass: Especially toward Johnny.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Jerk: He's definitely one in his random encounter.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain:
    • As if being a resentful prick towards Johnny wasn't enough, Brian also chides him for his Jewish heritage (such as during "Buyer's Market" when he says "I guess you Semites are are good at sniffing out a deal" when complaining that Billy made Johnny responsible for the deal and not Brian).
    • He also mentions that he can't tell Slavs apart when he calls Niko a "Polack" (which itself is an offensive term for Polish people) when he is actually Serbian.
    • He is also a consummate xenophobe, referring to the Slavs as "Slavic scum".
  • Psychopathic Manchild: You can't really tell that he's 39 years old with that immature attitude of his. He has a pretty childish way of agreeing on everything Billy says and does, and even mimics Johnny.
Johnny: You think Billy'd stick his neck out for you? You're dumber than I thought!
Brian: (mimics Johnny in a shrill voice) You're dumber than I thought, you're dumber than I thought!
  • Renegade Splinter Faction: Forms his own splinter biker gang after Billy is incarcerated, which leads to a civil war within the Lost MC.
  • Smug Snake: The only thing that can shut him up is a gun to his face. And not even; there, he'd start begging for his life, saying anything to survive.
  • The Starscream: He thinks Johnny is one to Billy. He becomes one to Johnny after Billy's arrest.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: If spared by Johnny, he just tries to kill him again.
  • Villainous Breakdown: When Johnny confronts him in "Bad Standing".
Brian: (after pleading for his life) I'm sorry! Please!
Johnny: Come on. For once, do not be a bitch. You've got to take it like a man! (shoots Brian in the chest)
Brian: (as he's dying) Fuck... you.
  • Yes-Man: To Billy, and even he gets sick of Brian sometimes.

    Jason Michaels

"We are brothers, and brothers stick together."
Voiced by: Bill Burr

An enforcer of the Lost MC's Alderney chapter and a notorious pimp.

  • Badass Biker: He may be the youngest Lost MC member but according to Billy's speech, he's the bravest and the biggest daredevil of them all. He's also known as a law breaker, troublemaker, beer-drinker, and hell raiser and "the kind of man" Billy would want to be.
  • The Casanova: He makes his money by seducing women and then pimping them out. This was his plan for Anna Faustin, but that didn't work out so well for him.
  • Character Death: Not that it came as a surprise, but he dies extremely early in the campaign riding off after the mission Angels in America to go meet his girlfriend.
  • Dark Secret: Runs the Lost's prostitution ring according to the police scanner. Which casts his relationship with Faustin's daughter in a new light.
  • Doomed by Canon: We know his fate once he starts talking about dating a mob boss' daughter, at least if you've played GTA IV.
  • Sacrificial Lamb: His death early on in TLAD's campaign is used as motivation by Billy Grey for the Lost MC to strike back at the Angels of Death (even though the latter had nothing to do with Jason's death) which in turn causes the problems the Lost face throughout the IV era. And as of the V era, Jason's death in hindsight triggered a domino effect for almost the entire Alderney chapter of the Lost MC getting killed off.
  • Tempting Fate: Talks about all the fun he's going to have banging his Russian girlfriend and drinking her father's vodka. Not much later, he gets whacked by Niko Bellic on the orders of said girlfriend's father.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Knows he's dating a Russian Mobster's daughter and that it infuriates him. If there was a moment of regret for this decision on his mind, he didn't live long enough for it.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Even in The Lost of the Damned expansion focusing on his gang, he only appears for two missions before getting offed by Niko.
  • Younger Than They Look: Looks like Vlad Dracula but isn't even thirty.

"I mean, it wasn't enought to be drug dealers, we also had to be outlaws, to be maniacs, to be psychos, ad to be greedy, you know..."
Voiced by: Brian Tarantina

A mechanic of the Lost MC's Alderney chapter. He is paralyzed from the waist down due to an accident caused by Billy Grey.

  • Broken Pedestal: Billy Grey is already dead to him by the start of the game.
" Billy don't see anything that he don't wanna. He'll see anything within smoking, drinking and fucking proximity, but he won't see the two-ton truck bearing down on him."
  • Career-Ending Injury: He lost the use of his legs after Billy Grey caused them both to crash into an oncoming truck.
  • The Cynic: He has a somewhat pessimistic attitude towards life, especially in regards to the Lost's future and the criminal underworld in general.
  • Disabled Snarker: In some of the phone calls with Johnny. It's clear that the loss of his legs and his sour relationship with Billy forced him to reevaluate his lifestyle.
  • Evil Cripple: Though he's really only as evil as Johnny and the rest of the Lost are.
  • Friendship Trinket: Billy's Revenant. He and Johnny built it for Billy when they were younger. Billy uses this as an excuse to forcibly retrieve it from the Angels of Death after it was given to them as a peace offering.
  • Genius Cripple: He runs a fairly lucrative business exporting stolen bikes and still serves as the Lost's chief mechanic despite his disability.
  • Jade-Colored Glasses: Witnessing Billy's lack of concern for his well-being, both before and after the accident, led him to question whether criminals in a group like his can truly be loyal to one another.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He's a very sardonic guy involved with the gang's criminal activities, but he remains loyal to Johnny and the others.
  • No Honor Among Thieves: Unlike the rest of The Lost, he finds the concept of Honor Among Thieves utterly laughable. He is eventually proven right when a Civil War causes the chapter to disband. At the end of the game, he advises Johnny to "end the charade that this gang meant anything."
  • Only Sane Man: Considers himself even more reasonable than Johnny and Jim, because unlike them, he doesn't feel obligated to support Billy's self-destructive plans.
  • Sarcastic Devotee: He never fails to criticize Johnny over obeying Billy's increasingly unreasonable orders or continuing to do favors for Ashley. He never stops supporting Johnny in times of need, either.
  • Sole Survivor: It's unknown if he cares or even knows, but after Trevor Philips' slaughter of the Lost in Blaine County, he is the last remaining member of the Alderney Chapter.
  • The Smart Guy: As the mechanic of the Lost.
  • We Used to Be Friends: One of the reasons why he's particularly pessimistic about the Lost's undertakings is that he's never forgiven Billy Grey for causing the accident that took away the use of his legs.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Unlike the rest of the Alderney Chapter, Angus doesn't seem to have relocated to Blaine County with them. His current whereabouts, as of the latest update of Grand Theft Auto Online, are unknown.

"Ah, solid man."
Voiced by: Jay Patterson

One of the Lost MC's applicants.

  • Amoral Attorney: His day job. When Johnny stumbles upon him outside his office, he hires Johnny to intimidate a lawyer at a rival firm. Is also sued for sexual harassment by his secretary, which Dave claims was merely an inappropriate look.
  • Butt-Monkey: Billy lets him take a hit off some marijuana... which he'd spiked with mescaline. Johnny finds the idea of a lawyer in the gang revolting. Billy Grey, obviously, sees it as a potential bonus.
  • Punch-Clock Villain: Is a part-time applicant of the gang.
  • Unlucky Extra: Only shows up twice in the story; first in a cutscene then in a random encounter. He had unwittingly taken mescaline in the former, and was found to be in serious legal trouble in the latter.

"You're my habit, Johnny."
Voiced by: Traci Godfrey

An old lady of the Lost MC's Alderney chapter. She is Johnny's ex-girlfriend.

For tropes relating to her appearance in Grand Theft Auto V, see her entry in this character sheet.

  • Abhorrent Admirer: Johnny now considers her one, given that she wants to get back together with him, particularly because of her infidelity. Subverted in the next game however when he became involved with her again and addicted to meth in the process.
  • Blatant Lies: Constantly tells Johnny that she's clean and sober, even as she slurs her words and grumbles about how her addiction is killing her.
  • Damsel in Distress: A distressingly realistic example of it as her addiction lands her in severe hot water several times.
  • Drugs Are Bad: While looking better than a real junkie, the game highlights how drugs have ruined her life. In Grand Theft Auto V she looks much worse and suffers a terrible end regardless of player actions.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Has a single appearance in GTA 4 in the opening cutscene of one of Ray's missions.
  • The Millstone: She seems to have a habit of making connections with the wrong people.
  • Off the Wagon: Pretty much unable to stay clean.
  • Not Afraid to Die: When Johnny asks why he shouldn't kill her since she indirectly caused Jim's death, she replies that it doesn't make a difference since she might be put out of her misery as a junkie.
  • Really Gets Around: She's been with Johnny, Billy Grey, and Ray Boccino. And Trevor Philips in V, to her eternal detriment.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Her addiction forces Johnny to kidnap Roman Bellic for Dmitri Rascalov, which intensifies the war between Niko and the Russian Mob.

Maisonette 9

The nightclub where Luis Lopez works at.

    Gay Tony

Anthony "Gay Tony" Prince

"The Russian mob want me dead, my best friend just contemplated murdering me, the mob are on my case, I'm massively in debt and I just lost 2 million dollars worth of diamonds. Any other man would just dust himself off and carry on!"
Voiced by: David "D.B. Cooper" Kenner

The owner and manager of Maisonette 9 and Hercules, two of Liberty City's biggest nightclubs. He is Luis Lopez's employer and mentor figure, but his descent into debt and his drug addiction has strained their relationship.

For tropes relating to his appearance in Grand Theft Auto V, see his entry in this character sheet.

  • Action Survivor: As part of an Action Duo with Luis in some missions wherein he handles a gun quite competently.
  • All Take and No Give: His relationship with Evan Moss was like this before Evan was killed by Johnny Klebitz.
  • Bash Brothers: With Luis several times in the story.
  • Bungled Suicide: Nearly blows his brains out with a pistol out of despair with Evan's death and Gracie's kidnapping, but he forgot to take the safety off.
  • Extreme Doormat: The role he plays in the above-mentioned relationship. This attitude has started to creep into his business life as well, due to his growing debt.
  • Functional Addict: Is almost constantly high on coke, but still manages to successfully run the city's most popular nightclubs while juggling favors for criminal syndicates.
  • Large Ham: Downplayed. While he puts on a show for PR purposes and is something of a drama queen when he's stressed out, he never really gets into all-out hysteria.
  • Life of the Party: Subverted. Most of his flamboyant behavior is an act put on to disguise the fact that his business has been built on shady deals with criminal organizations.
  • Like a Son to Me: What he thinks of Luis. He needs to be on a considerable amount of coke to say it out loud, though.
  • Nervous Wreck: He's incredibly high strung, and his debts give him plenty of reason to be. He gives Ken Rosenberg a run for his money.
  • Non-Action Guy: He starts off as this, letting Luis do all the shooting and panicking at the thought of getting in a firefight. By the end of the game, though, he's become just as competent as Luis is.
  • Non P.O.V. Protagonist: While he isn't the Player Character of Ballad, the episode's story largely revolves around him and his attempts to get out of debt.
  • Parental Substitute: Luis even claims to his friends that Tony is like the father he never had.
  • Sharp-Dressed Man: Is seen in nice suits in both of his appearances.
  • Straight Gay: Despite his Large Ham tendencies and nickname.
  • Took a Level in Badass: The first time him and Luis are both in a combat situation, he settles for nervously trailing behind Luis and won't even pick up a gun. By the end of the game, they are gunning down enemies side by side.
  • Work Off the Debt: He borrowed money from The Mafia when he was young to start his nightclub businesses. Now they've come back to collect, but he lacks the funds to pay the interest, forcing him to do their dirty work instead.

"We were just having a little creative meeting and things went a bit crazy and I somehow lost my pants!"
Voiced by: Omid Djalili

A young Arab real estate developer who wants to franchise Gay Tony's clubs.

  • Arab Oil Sheikh: Technically, he is the heir to one, but is also effectively one in terms of the wealth he already possesses and the business ventures he spearheads.
  • Ascended Extra: Goes from an unseen character only mentioned in one mission for Playboy X in GTA IV to a fully-fledged out character and the tritagonist of The Ballad of Gay Tony.
  • Badass Boast: Offers them throughout the chase.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: He's a light-hearted guy, but as soon as you'll hurt those he considers his friends, the joke is over.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Twice in the final level. First, he helps Luis make it to Francis International Airport using his golden Buzzard. Second, he offers to help remove the remaining debt from Tony and Luis for good by buying and franchising Maisonette 9 for them.
  • Big Fun: His missions really bring out the Lighter and Softer tone of TBOGT by having Luis steal a chopper and later, a military tank simply because he wants them free of charge.
  • Bling-Bling-BANG!: Has a few golden Uzi submachine-guns, one of which he gives to Luis as a gift in return for helping him. He even has his Buzzard attack chopper (which Luis helped him obtain) painted gold.
  • The Bus Came Back: After 14 years, he returned for Grand Theft Auto Online's Chop Shop update.
  • Characterisation Marches On: In GTA IV, Playboy X describes him as a "serious and overworked man". From what we see in The Ballad Of Gay Tony, he is anything but. However, Yusuf's father Abdul fits Playboy's description of him to a T.
  • Collector of the Strange: He has cars and fricking helicopters among other things made out of pure gold.
  • Eccentric Millionaire: He has Luis go on missions to steal shit like an attack chopper, an APC, and decommissioned subway train. He's also obsessed with gold, having a phone made of it, an Uzi plated in it, and later the aforementioned chopper painted in gold.
  • Foreign Culture Fetish: He enjoys hip-hop culture, and (painfully) recreates the mannerisms associated with it.
  • Funny Foreigner: Light-hearted, "street", and carefree. He tends to provide a lot of comic relief in his missions.
  • Gunship Rescue: In the final level, he saves Luis from getting killed by Bulgarin's assassins using his golden Buzzard, clearing a way into Francis International.
  • Good Is Not Soft: He's on Luis' side, but won't hesitate to encourage him to kill criminals during a job or doing it himself. For example, he tells Luis to blow up a yacht full of criminals (and Tony later confirms that they are arms dealers connected to the worst governments in West Africa) after having stolen a Buzzard attack chopper from him while near the endgame, he uses his gold Buzzard to fight off Ray Bulgarin's assassins so Luis can deal with Ray personally.
  • Hidden Depths : When Playboy X hires Niko to trash a building site that he thought Yusuf wanted a strike to be cleared from, Yusuf suspends progress on the new building and he closes down the site in memory of those killed by Niko.
  • Hookers and Blow: And No Pants.
  • Innocently Insensitive: He repeatedly and freely drops the n-word because he thinks this is just something cool that Western people call each other, not realizing how offensive this would be specially towards Luis (an Afro-Dominican) who gets annoyed and warns Yusuf that he shouldn't do it.
  • Lonely Rich Kid: He lives in the lap of luxury, but some get the impression he is a lonely, socially awkward man who just wants a good friend.
  • Pretty Fly for a White Guy: Arab in his case, but still pretty much qualifies.
  • Nice Guy: He is the only associate of Luis Lopez and Gay Tony who doesn't talk down to them or act like they own them and come the final mission, Yusuf helps Luis deal with Ray Bulgarin and makes good on his promise to fund and franchise Maisonette 9 thereby helping the duo earn their happy ending in the IV era.
  • N-Word Privileges: He does not have this, but as part of his Pretty Fly for a White Guy shtick, he rather liberally tosses the word around.
  • One-Man Army: In the final mission.
  • Rich in Dollars, Poor in Sense: If the suggestion that he has 3 solid gold guns is anything to go on, and that's just one of his 'investments'.
  • Tritagonist: Of Grand Theft Auto: The Ballad of Gay Tony.
  • Unseen No More: After being only mentioned in GTA IV, he appears as one of the main characters of TBOGT.
  • Upper-Class Twit: Downplayed. He may be a bit obnoxious, but he is genuinely nice to Luis.
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy: His relationship with his father. He wants to make his father Abdul proud of him but his lavish lifestyle (and building style) is considered to be "shameful" and "disgraceful", due to his conservative views.

    Mori Kibbutz

Mori Kibbutz

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/morikibbutz-artwork_3665.jpg
"Perfect? Yeah. Chiseled, tanned, handsome. I'm the dream ticket."
Voiced by: Jeff Gurner

Brucie Kibbutz's elder brother and one of Gay Tony's creditors.

  • Big Brother Bully: Dear lord is he cruel to Brucie. One has to wonder how many of the man's issues are a direct result of Mori's abuse.
  • Bigger Is Better in Bed: He brags about having a 10 inch "hose".
  • Evil Counterpart: To his own brother, Brucie. Both are obsessed with being as physically fit as possible and both are extremely self-absorbed and egotistical. However, Brucie genuinely respects the people that are close to him (such as Niko), whereas Mori is a complete asshole to just about everybody.
  • Hate Sink: Mori is a utter prick to everyone around him, namely Luis, whom consistently misnames as Lou to spite him, and his little brother Brucie whom he treats like a subhuman. Needless to say, the moment when Brucie (accidently) whacks him in the face is pure catharsis for both Luis and the player alike.
  • Jerkass: He verbally abuses every single person that he speaks to, and never once indicates even the slightest hint of empathy. Not even after the end of the story.
  • Jerk Jock: The fact that he manages to be this well into adulthood really says something about him.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Finally receives on in his last mission where Brucie punches him in the nose, breaking it.
  • Light Is Not Good: He wears white colored clothing and has light colored hair, but he's a despicable bully and a thoroughly unpleasant and abrasive person.
  • Loan Shark: Whom Tony owes money to, thus forcing Luis to do some work for him.
  • The Napoleon: He is notably shorter than most characters, and he is complete jerkass who is very insecure about his height. Luis even comments on this.
  • Minor Injury Overreaction: He breaks down in tears when Brucie ends up breaking his nose.
  • Remember the New Guy?: Brucie has never mentioned the existence of Mori to either Niko or Roman, but Mori is somehow aware of Brucie's friendship with the two.
  • Schoolyard Bully All Grown Up: He basically serves as this to Brucie, showing up years after they've both grown up to torment his little brother once again.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Slightly more famous than Brucie, but with an even bigger ego than him.

    Evan Moss

Evan Moss

"Where's Tony?, Where's Tony? What's wrong with 'Hi Evan, you're looking cut'. 'Hi Evan, like a drink?'. 'Hi Evan, if I wasn't straight I'd ravage you right now.'"
Voiced by: Robert Youells

An ex-bodybuilder turned male model and the current boyfriend of Gay Tony.

  • All Take and No Give: What his relationship with Tony is, as Evan constantly takes advantage of him for money, drugs and parties. Luis even tells Tony this in a phonecall after the mission "Bang Bang":
Luis: He's dragging you down, man. He's a fucking parasite.
  • Asshole Victim: No one seems to mourn him after he's gunned down by Johnny Klebitz. Luis seems glad to see him gone and Tony flat out admits Evan was a horrible person.
  • Camp Gay: Compared to Tony, Evan is much more effeminate and dramatic.
  • Drugs Are Bad: He's a "coke pushing steroid junkie" in Luis's words and said to be the one who got Tony addicted to drugs to begin with.
    • If you read the Liberty Tree article about his death, it's reveals that Evan was a successful bodybuilder while he was younger, having won a teen weightlifting competition when he was 16 - only to end up ruining his career through a number of scandals, one of which included positive drug tests.
  • Gold Digger: One of the reasons why Luis hates him, as it's clear Evan is mainly dating Tony for his money.
  • Hate Sink: Much like Mori, there's nothing redeemable about him.
  • Jerkass: He's an obnoxious, self-centered asshole who treats Tony like crap and looks down on Luis. After he gets killed, even Tony admits that Evan was "a wretched excuse for a human being".
  • Macho Camp: He's a blond, tanned, muscular gay man who used to be a bodybuilder.
  • Skewed Priorities: He keeps making posts on social media even as he is being murdered.
  • Younger Than They Look: He's 24, but he looks older than that. It's likely due to his tan and drug use.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: He hardly matters in the narrative of GTAIV era, but his death actually leads to Luis meeting Johnny and Niko (as enemies), and Luis and Niko getting into conflict with each other before both parties get what they want.
