Welcome to the Trope Pantheons thread! Please read the rules:

    Rules
Rules. The following are not suggestions or tips, but things that have to be followed:
  • When writing a profile, take note of the following:
    • Gods cannot be followers or high priests for obvious reasons. The 'gods' have ascended meaning there is no need for said character to be a follower of another if they have ascended.
    • No hype profiles, please. 'Hype Profiles' are profiles that have been made out of ongoing events and have not been around for a long time. This creates 'hype' due to popularity and certain elements either through certain scenes, memes, dramatic acting or considered overly awesome. They are not bad tropes but building a portfolio solely for that is a bad idea, as they do not say a thing about representing the trope best (unless it's those trope concepts that they are trying to embody for a long time)
      • You can see one if the profile is only showing off how awesome they are or suddenly pushing how 'significant' they are thanks to the just very recent events rather than respecting the longstanding good representations of the trope. And usually having... minimum portfolio or flavor texts and being a bit too generalized or self-contained to events from within their home series instead of interacting with other Pantheon members.
  • When posting in the forum, take note of the following:
    • When you suggest a God, please explain why they fit the trope. Not everyone is going to understand just "X should be the God of Y because they exemplify the trope" off the bat, especially if they're unfamiliar with the work.
    • You must use the Trope Pantheons discussion thread in the forums if you wish to add a new deity, story, something else of importance to the Trope Pantheon canon, or reworking an existing deity (be it simply improving their existing profile or changing their title).
      • For new and reworked deities, 3 [tup] means the profile will have a one week waiting period.
      • For new and reworked deities, 4 [tup] is a 3 day waiting period.
      • 5 [tup] is an automatic ascension for new and reworked deities.
      • Speaking of reworks, for anyone that wants to improve such profiles, they have to review the current trope the character(s) has and see if it still holds up or if there is a better rep for their trope.
    • For adding new Treasures to The Great Treasury or new Dominions to the Dominions, the following rules apply:
      • For new Treasures or Dominions, 3 [tup] is a 3 day waiting period.
      • 4 [tup] is an automatic addition to the Great Treasury or Dominions.
    • Do not repost a profile in the forums more than twice in a day if noticeable changes have not been made in between. If a profile is posted a third time in a row without noticeable alterations, it will be downvoted. This is so spamming of no-effort profiles is less frequent and to prevent tropers from getting aggravated seeing the same profile over and over. The minimum acceptable change has to be a single flavour text.
    • The Pantheon is not a mouthpiece for you to voice your opinions on certain characters. You may like certain characters more than others, but do not make the mistake of making profiles for characters you like look like Character Shilling.
    • Tropers new to the Pantheon are barred from approving or downvoting profiles until they have ascended at least two profiles.
    • Do not include fan reception in any profiles. It has nothing to do with the character themselves and will create unnecessary conflict.
    • Write a detailed explanation on why the character is the best candidate for deity of that trope. If people disagree with you, do not force it on the people.
    • Keep in mind that if you still want to try to find a trope for a particular character, you are only given three chances to find a particular trope for them. If a suggestion goes past three possible tropes, then it will come off as shoehorning a character into the Pantheon just for the sake of that character to be there.
      • On a related note, even if a character does have a free trope being suggested, there is still a limit of three attempts for suggesting that character for that trope. If no one responds to that certain proposal after being posted three times, then it will get to the point where the idea will be seen as being shoehorned into the Pantheon. In addition, the idea needs to be considered acceptable and approved because they are good, not for the sake of pitying others because no one is responding to their idea.
  • When posting Pantheon related stuff to the wiki, take note of the following:
    • Do not put a link to these Pantheon pages into the main wiki page. The moment you want to add in a main Characters page that the character is a God of this trope, do not do it. If you see leftovers of this practice, inform the forum and use the cutlist. This also goes to the Trivia page. The only exception to this rule is if a page in the Pantheon could be confused for a page in Main, like Good Colors, Evil Colors and Good and Evil Colors.
    • Rule of Cautious Editing Judgment ALSO applies here. Do not bring things that would incite fights, even if it is what is currently the hot topic and might be 'urgent'. For example, the political scene and some really bad politicians. We are not here to fight at each other, so don't suggest things that go to that direction, this is a fictional Pantheon after all.
    • To add a Pantheon page for a certain work, 4 or more characters coming from the same series/franchise should be ascended before adding the page. For Creator specific pages, 4 deities coming from the same creator and 2 individual work pages coming from the same creator is the minimum to warrant a page.
    • Do not create a trope page for a story until the story is fully completed.

    Instructions and Tips
Here are some tips one should keep in mind when editing:

  • Preparing to write:
    • First thing to do before present a profile is to go to the Trope Pantheons discussion thread. In the forums, you must discuss with other users on adding ideas and seek their approval with sound reasoning. You can also get some assistance in the forum thread by either asking for help and those interested asking if they can help. Submissions that are added without discussion are likely to be deleted and those who violate those rules by adding Pantheon content without discussion will get reported to the mods.
    • If you feel the need to remove a character for some reason (poor quality, outdated titles, etcetera) and replace him/her with another or outright rework, please see what the other tropers think about this in the discussion thread before doing anything hasty. Use good reasoning to see if your idea can easily replace the character present without drawing out your statement or giving too ambiguous claims most do not understand.
    • Please be sure to consult others in the discussion about what you want to work before making the profile. This is done to see if your proposal is the best representative and so, in case your profile is turned down, you do not waste time writing something that others might not find suitable.
      • In the same vein, if you adopt a profile from another troper, it is recommended that you make an announcement that you have done so on the discussion thread. More often than not, a trope that was reserved for something was given away to someone else. Check the Related tab on the top of a page to see if a trope or character has been reserved by a user.
    • If, for whatever reason, you are writing about a God who just happens to be a person in real life, just try to be very careful about what you decide to say. Do not try to make the editing seem too meta (self-referential) and use the aformentioned creativity to create hypothetical scenarios towards fictional characters.
  • When writing a profile for a character, here are a few things to note:
    • All deities should be sorted by their divine ranking. Put Overdeities on the top of the page and Quasideities on the bottom. Also be sure to add them in alphabetical order by their first/given name (can be reversed if it is Eastern ordered). For a group, if there is no official name for them all list down all their names by order of relevance or (if too long to list) title them as Insert Name Here Main Characters or some other identifiable title along the same lines.
    • The maximum number of tropes that a god can have is two, but do not try to abuse that fact. If you need to use a second trope to specify a certain thing about their position, that can be excused either because said character represents their trope choice very well alongside the first trope. It is still generally encouraged to only have one trope.
    • A trope can only belong to one profile at a time. The only time two profiles can share a trope is if there are explicit variations listed in the trope page proper (e.g. Muscle Angst is held by both Biscuit Krueger and Chihiro Fujisaki as the former represents "Too Much Muscle" and the latter represents "Not Enough Muscle")
    • If the character you are about to add to a House already exists in another, make sure to mention that this person has spots in other House as well. Up to 2 places can be made for a deity, with the sole exceptions being those at the Main House to highlight those characters’ importance to the Pantheon’s lore.
    • For a character's theme song, try to avoid calling it "Theme of God X" or "Theme of (Show where God X originates from)". If possible, try to find out if the song has an actual name through research. Most importantly, it has to be part their series’ official soundtracks from media. Do not list songs that are made by fans or outside sources. If they were not specifically used as music for that specific character, then they do not count. Furthermore, it has to be a general theme specifically made for that characters’ appearances, not some generic music that plays for many other instances not related to the character in question.
    • For images, when adding an image for your chosen character, it is highly recommended to use a stylized image that embodies the character or renders that also highlights a character’s behavior (such as cool poses). Most images should be from the main adaptations of the character, unless the images from the other media are of a higher quality than the adaptation. Unless it is needed, do not use fanart for images. If you are, please attribute to the original artist. Due to the website’s dark mode, removing white backgrounds from an image is paramount. This website is suggested to do the background removal. If an image you have takes up too much bytes, it is suggestible to use this site to reduce the byte size. If the byte is still too big, put the compressed image to other sites (or even the same one) to compress even further. Use wikias to look for better images, as even wikias for the series might not contain good official images.
    • Creativity is your friend. While it is not recommended to get too ditzy at your ideas, it is best that when writing a profile for a certain character, do you think of capable scenarios between X and Y. Tip: do not use shallow examples (X wields a sword and Y wields one too) and try to think of relationships that makes sense (i.e those characters that are shout-outs for another).
  • Pantheon Content:
    • Some series or genres will eventually have greater representation in the Pantheon than others. This is unavoidable, but a little diversity helps to make you not look like a shill per say. Try to ensure that if you add a deity from a popular series, make sure that it is because they are a good representative for the trope in question, and not just because they are connected to another deity in their respective canon.
      • As far as deities from actual mythologies, there is generally expectation to build the profiles off interactions from fictional portrays rather than basing it entire from the actual myth. Therefore, a mythological deity should be more of a Composite Character whose main identity is from the actual myth.
    • Occasionally there will be Gods that carry a title without a trope. This is not forbidden, but it is well advised not to abuse them. The only house that a tropeless profile are wholly allowed is the House of Food. Mainly due to most food items lacking tropes, and adding tropes about said foodstuffs is slightly unnecessary. However, the character being ascended for their choice of a food, or food-related thing must be a decently good representative of said item. (i.e their Trademark Favorite Food, or something that they are closely associated with In-Universe, or both).
    • For Dominions and Treasures profiles, always consider what made those places/objects popular in the first place. Were they plot-important, identifiable imagery or have a unique aspect of it? Do not just bring regular objects under the basis of following a certain canon.
  • For Profile Standards:
    • Flavor text is used to describe certain things about a character, place or object. To avoid short ones, it is recommended to write flavor text with 4-7 sentences that can fill around 2 lines each. Be warned that adding too many sentences does not equal good flavor text as it is not an essay of sorts (unless words are substantial and do add to the overall line).
    • Character Profiles of a certain person should have the following:
      • A portfolio that contains at least 7 (at the minimum) tropes describing their character.
      • Flavor text count for a deity profile should have by minimum, 10 (depending if the character in question has enough relationships/characterization) to 15 with a maximum of 20-25 for an individual profile.
      • On the other hand, group profiles (profiles of a group that has 4 or more members) have their maximum flavor text count to 15 minimum, giving individual lines for the other members of the group (unless the members are not as characterized) up to 30 at max.
    • Dominion profiles of a certain place should have the following:
      • A portfolio that contains at least 5 (at the minimum) tropes describing the context of the place.
      • Flavor text count should range at least 10 to 15.
    • Treasure profiles (inanimate objects without a trope) should have the following:
      • A portfolio that contains at least 6 (at the minimum) tropes that describes the object itself.
      • Flavor text count should be at least 7 flavor text up to 12 to constitute a treasure profile.

    Divine Ranking System
  • Overdeity: Omnipotent-level Reality Warpers capable of manipulating the entire universe (or at least the world) at will. Within their own universe they are believed to be omnipotent, or at least impossible-to-completely-destroy embodiments or concepts.
  • Greater Gods: High-level Reality Warpers and that are extremely powerful (capable of destroying or changing anywhere from a large city to a planet at will) and very strong non-reality warpers capable of doing the same thing.
  • Intermediate Gods: Deities at this level are capable of strong but specialized powers such as hydrokinesis, pyrokinesis, etc. without major drawbacks and low level Reality Warpers capable of affecting their immediate area at will.
  • Lesser Gods: Capable of highly specific or little power on their own, or suffer from Power at a Price. However, they may be able to ruthlessly exploit their power or combine it with just being badass enough to make up for it.
  • Demigods: Basically the Badass Normals of the pantheon, making up for their lack of abilities with strength, strategy, and/or planning.
  • Quasideities: Any otherwise normal human, human equivalent, or below without any special powers or training will fall here.

    Templates
Template for adding a new deity:

God X, God/dess of (Insert Trope Here) (Alternate names/Nicknames, Fan Nickname)

  • An image, if possible. Please use official art or a screenshot for a picture.
  • Rank: This can range from Quasideity, Demigod, Lesser God, Intermediate God, Greater God, to Overdeity, based on representation of power mentioned above.
  • Symbol: An image or icon used to represent the deity.
  • Theme Song: Official song (in other words, no fan music, regardless of quality) that usually is used in affiliation with the character. If the deity is a musician this will most likely be their Signature Song. If possible, give a link for reference, preferably on either a website like Soundcloud or YouTube.
  • Alignment: Good, evil, neutral etc. Forget about The Great Character Alignment Debate here, the Pantheon is one of the few places where you can assign Dungeons & Dragons alignment to characters that don't have alignment system. After all, the Pantheon is based on D&D and is made for fun.
  • For Pokémon deities only:
    • Gender: Defines the gender of the Pokémon; if genderless, it instead defines what gender they identify as.
    • Ability: Provides the Pokémon's ability. If they can Mega Evolve, the new ability is listed as well.
    • Moves: Defines the four moves used by a Pokémon. A Z-Move may also be listed.
  • Portfolio: Tropes associated with the character.
  • Domains: Things that the character has influence over.
  • Herald: Non-ascended loyal character that is from the same series as the ascended character.
  • High Priest: Non-ascended like heralds, but not from the same series, and can serve as a worthy replacement in case something would happen. They can be served as part-time workers in case the originals are busy with some jobs. Co-Godhood is accepted depending on the approval of the originals, usually if the co-deity is from the same series.
  • Followers: Non-ascended characters that are not part of the Pantheon, but would probably worship this character by the fact that they share the ascended character's trope.
  • Relationships between ascended characters go here with your chosen character, it goes something like this:
    • Allies: Members of the Pantheon that are allies, those that share the same values as them and would theoretically be friends with them.
    • Rivals: Members of the Pantheon that are rivals, people who may look at your character with suspicion or a challenge.
    • Enemies: Members of the Pantheon that are foes, those who would see your chosen character as a threat, either on their pespective or yours.
    • Additional Character Relationships: Members of the Pantheon that do not fit in various relationships (examples include Enemy Mine, Vitriolic Best Buds, Teeth-Clenched Teamwork, Headbutting Heroes, Friendly Enemy, Friendly Rival, Just Friends, etc.), allies, rivals, or enemies.
    • Partner: Defines a partnership with an ascended deity and Mon-type. (if any)
    • Feared by/Fears: A deity whom the members of the Pantheon notably fear or are feared by.
    • Respected by/Respects: A deity whom the members of the Pantheon respect or are respected by.
    • Opposed by/Opposes: Not necessarily the same as "Enemies", but this is used for any deity whom the members of the Pantheon directly opposes or is opposed by (basically the opposite of "Respects") terms of certain viewpoints, regardless of alignment.
    • Pitied by/Pities: A deity whom the members of the Pantheon feel pity for or are found pitiable by.
    • Conflicting Opinion: Sometimes, the Deities argue over specific themes and philosophies.
  • Add the Intro. The intro is made up of two trivia, the Ascension Text (or just the Ascension) and The Bio. Both are necessary, but which order you use for them may vary depending on the profile in question. It may be better for one profile to have The Bio first and the Ascension second or vice-versa, although for the most part the order is irrelevant:
    • The Ascension Text: This the story of how the character got into the Pantheon and/or was ascended. There are many ways for this to happen. They may be tricked into it or have simply wandered into the Pantheon, they may have had an already ascended character bring them in, they may already be in the Pantheon (via being another deity's Herald or sharing a trope) and got "promoted", or some combination of the above. Anything is possible in the Pantheon, so use your imagination, but try to incorporate their trope into the story, if possible.
    • The Bio: A brief synopsis on the character's backstory. No need for the character's entire life/production history, but just give enough that those who don't know the character can get an idea of how the character works.
  • Now add some random trivia/facts about events/alignments/moments/fights/friendships/relations etc.
  • And some more trivia/facts.
  • And a couple of more.
    • Note: Standard amount of flavor text for Deities/Characters is 10-15 (15-20 for group profiles) at minimum to 20-25 (30 for group profiles) at maximum.

Template for Dominions profiles:

Place X, Place of (Insert Trope Here) (Alternate names/Nicknames, Fan Nickname)

  • An image, if possible. Please use official art or a screenshot for a picture.
  • Theme Song (Optional): Not important as compared to Deity and Dominion profiles but a notable mention if there is an accompanying song in use with the object.
  • Alignment: Refers to the dominion's role in their story, be it those used by villains or used by the Player Character.
  • Portfolio: Tropes associated with the dominion.
  • Domains: Things that the place has links to.
  • Relationships (Optional): Unless the location has a connection with a specific deity, relationships are optional and may not be required. However, if there are deities linked to the same series as where the dominion is linked to, note them using the relationships, this includes deities that theoretically have interest with said dominion, good or evil otherwise.
  • Add the Intro. Here the introduction of the Dominion is added with some tidbits regarding the origins of its' creation and usage in the story. You can also add what made it popular/iconic/important here.
  • Now add some random trivia/facts about events/alignments/moments/fights/friendships/relations etc.
  • And some more trivia/facts.
  • And a couple of more.
    • Note: Standard amount of flavor text for Dominions is 10 at minimum to 15 at maximum.

Template for Treasure profiles:

The name of the item in here (Alternate names/Nicknames, Fan Nickname)

  • An image, if possible. Please use official art or a screenshot for a picture.
  • Appearance: A shortened description of the item's looks with some notable features also mentioned.
  • Class: Refer to the Treasure Classification System in the Great Treasury.
  • Alignment: Refers to the objects' role in their story, be it those used by villains or used by the Player Character.
  • Theme Song (Optional): Not important as compared to Deity and Dominion profiles but a notable mention if there is an accompanying song in use with the object.
  • Museum Check: A note that says whether the item is viewable by the public.
  • Portfolio: Tropes associated with the item.
  • Domains: Things that the item has links to.
  • Relationships (Optional): Unless the item has a connection with a specific deity, relationships are optional and may not be required. However, if there are deities linked to the same series as where the item is linked to (especially the original owner of the item), note them using the relationships, this includes deities that theoretically have interest with said object, good or evil otherwise.
  • Add the Intro. Here the introduction of the Treasure is added with some tidbits regarding the origins of its' creation and usage in the story. You can also add what made it popular/iconic/important here.
  • Now add some random trivia/facts about events/alignments/moments/fights/friendships/relations etc.
  • And some more trivia/facts.
  • And a couple of more.
    • Note: Standard amount of flavor text for Treasures is 7 at minimum to 12 at maximum.

Made some changes. Because of the differencing goals of the Chief Executives, I'm not sure on how to implement individual reactions from the various Mr. Robot deities.

"In all my years of travel, nothing exhilarates me as much as the rush of Guangdong. In my experience, I find that one learns more about their homeland the more they travel, and only here have I found such a resolute drive, a full-blooded desire to go beyond limits and tradition to achieve the impossible. You can appreciate the irony: Guangdong itself is an impossible creation, yet its people devote themselves to unending, relentless aspiration in spite of it."

  • Alignment: Lawful Evil, with the exception of Morita Akio, who is Lawful Neutral with Good leanings
  • Portfolio in General:
  • Domains: Corporations, Money, Profit, Arms Dealing
  • Heralds: Li Ka-shing, Stanley Ho and Ōmori Kan (Morita Akio), Matsushita Kōnosuke (Matsushita Masaharu), Yokoi Hideki, Tsuchida Kuniyasu (Matsushita Masaharu, Ibuka Masaru, Komai Kenichirō), Miyazaki Kiyotaka (Komai Kenichirō)
  • Allies:
  • Enemies: It's hard to usually pinpoint enemies since those allied to a specific Chief Executive sometimes opposes the other Chief Executives. For example, anyone allied with Komai Kenichirō is regarded as an enemy by Morita and Matsushita with the exception of Ibuka. But more specifically:
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Ibuka with Komai, due only being invited as a sideliner against Morita Akio, and consequently, Ibuka and Komai's allies tend to not work together willingly.
  • Opposes: AUTO (Ibuka Masaru)
  • Pitied by: Various good-aligned Sony deities (Morita Akio)
  • The State of Guangdong is an artificial Japanese colonial state carved out of China in a timeline where the Axis had an total victory over the Allies in World War II. Initially intended to be a retirement home for Japanese soldiers envisioned by Tōjō Hideki, after he was ousted from power at the end of the war, it instead became a playground of unrestrained capitalism, filled with crime, corruption and poverty, overseen by supposedly the Kanton Minseifu, the Guangdong Civil Administration, but in practice is mostly instead run by the biggest corporations in Guangdong, a fact that has been enforced with the Yasuda Crisis, which saw the Chief Executive Suzuki Teiichi being given a Vote of No Confidence and forced to resign, with the other corporate leaders forcing the now-powerless Representative Director of Yasuda Bank's Guangdong Branch Matsuzawa Takuji to the seat so that the now-disgraced Yasuda Bank can take even more brunt of their unpopular decisions, after which a power vacuum among the Sony, Matsushita Electric and Fujitsu corporations occurs to take the seat of Chief Executive. Both Sony and Fujitsu would invite their respective allies, Cheung Kong and Hitachi to further strengthen their position, but Hitachi seeks to take the throne backed by their Manchurian and IJA connections to turn it into a Manchurian industrial state.
  • How the Chief Executives rose to the position was a pellicular one. The House of Commerce doesn't typically award titles through merits or something else- rather, they are to be held in an auction for various titles. One of them in particular was the One Nation Under Copyright trope, an auction held with the cooperation with the House of Leadership. Though the competition was fierce, in the end, the various Chief Executives of Guangdong managed to secure the title for themselves, an extremely rare moment of cooperation between them considering the ongoing behind-the-scenes plotting against each other. With this, they have managed to ascend to another sector of the House of Commerce where the corporations compete each other in a product cycle, a fierce race of both quality control and advertising which can be heard around the various Houses. Additionally, they also managed to branch out to weapons development, with them sending out weapons not just for profit, but to meet the goals they have to fulfill so that their weapon is seen as a potentially profitable venture, which is also why they sell them to the House of Weapons regardless of the outcome of various battles. Marketing in Guangdong is a tough business, and it is no different when they ascended to divinity.
  • While the Chief Executives are barely recognizable in our own world with the exception of Morita Akio and Ibuka Masaru who founded Sony in our timeline, nevertheless, the corporations that they are associated with are easily more remembered than them most of the time. In a world where a new order was founded where National Socialism and Fascism is seen a potentially viable ideology, it too corrupted the corporations and the people associated with them: Ibuka Masaru would instead betray Morita Akio for Fujitsu caused by Tokyo Telecommunications' slow growth, starting a rivalry that did not end up as a friendship in our timeline, Matsushita Masaharu would attempt to further strengthen Matsushita Electric's hold on Guangdong to turn it into a corporate empire, and Komai Kenichirō will brutally implement the Manchurian system to industrialize Guangdong at the expense of the workers.
  • Even though they rule over Guangdong, they are tiny flies compared to the Buy N' Large corporation, who managed to effectively become the world government rather than simply rule a nation. Reactions have been mixed, of course: Morita Akio, upon hearing of CEO Shelby Forthright's attempts to undo the damages done by his own corporation, has vowed to avoid the pitfalls that Buy N' Large fell into by enforcing his various environmental bills so that the Lion Rock Spirit can breathe more fresh air in Guangdong, Matsushita Masaharu is impressed by their growth and sheer magnitude of rule, but like Morita, he will use his environmental bills to prevent his corporate empire from facing the same fate as Buy N' Large, if only because such an environment would be inefficient for him, Ibuka Masaru laments that the technology that the managed to invent instead resulted in much of humanity becoming lazy in the future, and plans to reverse engineer their technology so that it instead results in a more hard-working humanity and to further his meritocratic vision, resulting in him opposing AUTO for allowing for such complacency, and Komai Kenichirō's reasons are similar, albeit using it to virtually turn the entire population into money-makers regardless of the cost of human life.

[tdown] to the second (as Inigo Montoya is basically required to have that trope), but [tup] to the first and third (for the former, really helps that all the relevant picks from comics have better tropes, anywho).

@ Siegfried: There are quite a few ascended members of the Imperial Japanese Army and Navy in the Pantheon, though atm the Navy is the dominant faction.

Most notable amongst them are Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto and Rear Admiral Tamon Yamaguchi, two of the orchestrators of the Pearl Harbor Attack and were also involved in the early Pacific Battles.

Commander Masataka Shima is an IJN officer who has in his possession Yamashita's Gold, intent on using the stash of pilfered treasure to overthrow Stalin's regime and replace him with someone sympathetic to the Axis.

The Imperial Japanese Special Naval Landing Forces are elite Naval Infantry of the Imperial Japanese Navy, serving as their answer to the United States Marine Corps.

The Banzai Chargers are soldiers and officers of the Imperial Japanese Army, whose main tactic is to launch near-suicidal bayonet charges against their USMC opponents.

Just going to go on a limb and say I have photos for everyone in the two Sword Interval profiles I have except for David. Would appreciate some suggestions there if possible.

First draft for Dongbaek and Dongrang.

For Dongbaek: People bitter from betrayal and other luddite-type people? After the League’s dissolution, she became a leading figure in the Technology Liberation Alliance who wished to destroy technology and return humanity back to the past though Dongbaek also intended for the technology to be discovered anew so the Glory Days of the League and their happiness could be recreated.

For Dongrang: Anyone who started kind/idealistic but became more corrupt overtime? Bonus points if they are scientists/inventors/vets. He once took care of an abandoned calf and other strays because it was simply the right thing to do but overtime saw that technology with no immediate use had no value. After being forced to burn his tech, he set his sights on advancing and making a name for himself at all costs. He did hold guilt over how hollow his achievements were... but promptly embraced his ambition.

  • Look backward into the past, far enough when certain technologies that are seen as normal today were in their infancies. What did you think people felt when they saw through a telescope, watched a moving film, or witnessed the original plane take to the skies for the first time? Did they have stars in their eyes and childlike wonder in their heart when such creations were brought to life? This simple joy was what drove the League of Nine Littérateurs, a society operating in T Corp after moving from District 19 composed of inventors and tech enthusiasts who held illuminators conferences to showcase the inventions they privately made for the group. Among the members are Yi Sang, Dongbaek, and Dongrang who hailed from the same hometown. They were an innocent bunch, taking time out of their busy lives to fund their private ventures but this time of peace would not last. Cracks began to form as members came and went, the group was barely scraping by economically, and their technology was soon at risk from being confiscated due to not having the prerequisite registrations as other powers grew wise of their existence. Some members began caving into pressure and sold out the League for their personal safety with the final fracture being a raid conducted by T Corp’s agents ending in the League’s base burning to ash, scattering any of the remaining members with it.

  • Dongbaek:

    • A hometown friend of Yi Sang and Dongrang who joined the League of Nine with them was fond of fireworks as they reminded her of home in S Corp where the stars were as clear as day. Alas, no such sky could be seen in T Corp’s smoggy and colorless light-polluted skies hence her admiration for pyrotechnics. Dongbaek was of a cheerful sort, a bit of a jokester and an enthusiastic member of the League though was a realist in not really looking towards using any of their technologies for good if it wasn’t going to meaningfully change the City. The happiness they had here in the moment mattered more.
      • Following the League dissolution she became a bitter shell and at some point joined the terrorist syndicate known as the Technology Liberation Alliance where she swayed many of the downtrodden under her banner and would raid an abandoned L Corp laboratory in K Corp, one that happened to be occupied by Dongrang. In truth, however, Dongbaek’s goals did not end with technology’s abolishment as in destroying them she hoped the technologies would be rediscovered anew. Unfortunately, Dongbaek would never fulfill her wish as she was stopped by Yi Sang and the rest of Limbus Company with Dongrang finishing her off with the Golden Bough. Her goals scattered to the wind, as transient as a flower in bloom and the fireworks she loved so much. Though, she would help Yi Sang by encouraging him to fly towards the future and break free of the sloth and stagnation that gripped him.

    • (Fling a Light into the Future)

    • (Sunshower E.G.O.)

      • (Effloresced E.G.O.)

    • “I've always wished to be a bud, soon to burst into bloom. Shrouded in scent all over the body… Even if this is my own heart-wrenching path, understood by no one… I'll still leave behind a morrow, strong and fertile like fallen petals.”

  • Dongrang:

    • A hometown friend of Yi Sang and Dongbaek who was fond of animals. He took care of strays simply because they were suffering and under ailments, but Dongrang was most fond of a yellow calf who was abandoned by his mother. Fittingly, Dongrang’s specialty was with medicine and took pride in it as he cared for animals. Slowly, however, this benevolent outlook was chipped away as visitors flocked to other League member’s technologies but not his own. Dongrang then came to one conclusion: That the technology he made, and by extension himself, had no value if it had no immediate use let alone the capacity to change the world. He soon went off the deep end after being forced to destroy his work in a Concept Incinerator to prevent it from being taken and coming across the emerging technology of K Corp, culminating in him selling them out for his own ends.
      • He soon found himself working for K Corp and in discovering the dark secret behind the Ampules, he used Glass technology stolen from the League to hasten tear production. What was once technology that brought simple joy was soon appropriated for nightmarish ends. Dongrang would soon rise to be the Branch Manager of K Corp’s Food Resource Development but despite such status and being surrounded by awards he knew in his heart such trophies were hollow and even as he craved more the guilt from what he became threatened to consume him. This guilt wouldn’t last, however, as he soon embraced his ambition and wish to head towards the future with his first act being to kill Yi Sang to finally escape from the League’s shadow. Alas, Yi Sang would put him down first, having soared with the wings filled with the memories of the League while Dongrang failed to even take off and was embraced by the shadow. Dongrang’s work in advancing his status would also be for naught as following his death K Corp would use him as a scapegoat for the incident involving the Technology Liberation Alliance.

    • (Ambition Is Evil)

      • (Effloresced E.G.O.)

    • “All that's left is a parasitic mutation of Yong-ji's glass... My shoddy copy of the glass, which didn't manage to be anything. What use is technology that can't change the world? So I want you to stop caring like I have. Let it cry for our agony and sorrow in our stead.”

All my fault, you say...? What fault? I daresay it's all thanks to me.

  • An eccentric but truly gifted scientist and inventor, Emmet Brown had managed to construct a fully functional time machine out of an old Delorean, to which prompted him to invite his friend Marty to see its first test run. This simple event took a wrong turn when terrorists that Doc had double-crossed attacked the two, killing him and forcing Marty to use the time machine, sending him to 1955. There, the 1955 Doc aided Marty in returning to the future, but not before Marty gave him a letter entailing the circumstances of his death. Seemingly destroying it, it is later revealed that he pieced the letter back together and prevented his own death. Shortly after, he took Marty and his girlfriend Jennifer to 2015 to prevent their children from landing in jail, which spirals into them having the fix the timeline since the 2015 Biff Tannen stole a sports almanac Marty purchased, took the time machine, and gifted it to his 1955 self, resulting in Biff becoming filthy rich, marrying Marty's mother and killing his father. After traveling from the divergent 1985 and fixing the timeline, Marty again was aided by Doc's 1955 self to go back further in time to track down 1985 Doc, who wrote him a letter stating his intent to stay in 1885 Hill Valley. After doing so, Doc fell in love with a schoolteacher named Clara, which conflicted with his newfound desire to return home. After Marty and Doc concocted a plan to use a train to push the broken Delorean to a sufficient speed for time travel, Doc reconciled with Clara, who was on the same train. After Doc conceded on staying, Marty goes back to 1985 alone. Almost immediately after returning, Doc visits him in a time machine built out of a train, now married to Clara and with two sons. After bidding Marty farewell, the family travelled back to the past.
  • Instead of returning to 1885 Hill Valley, Doc and his family instead arrived at a large, peculiar hall. When they exited the train and Doc saw all the different people and buildings outside, he began to panic, worrying that something may have happened to the space-time continuum, and if he was the one to blame for it. Luckily, his friend Marty was present to calm him down and to inform him that everything was fine and that a place called the Trope Pantheons had seen it fit to ascend them both as the The Gods Who Try to Get Back to the Future, due to their many famous escapades in trying to return to their present from the past, and that his family and dog could stay as his heralds. Ecstatic to see his friend again, and with his family accompanying him, Doc accepted, quite excited to learn more about this place.
  • Quite naturally, the two have made many allies from time travelers:
    • The Doctor loves telling the two about all the inter dimensional things he’s faced, as well as his adventures through time. He’s also amused by the things Doc and Marty have done as well, especially when the stories of how they’d have to fix things that were messed up. The Doctor sees the two’s relationship as similar to the relationship he has with his many companions. Doc is also fascinated by The Doctor's time machine and wonders how a police phone box could travel through time. The Doctor has reassured him that it's Bigger on the Inside. Future Trunks from the same House is also on pretty good terms with the duo, and likes to tell them about his Bad Future and how he went back in time to fix it. Doc and Marty can sympathize with him, although they must admit that their future was far less worse than Trunks’. Trunks finds Marty to be a very good kid as well, and is trying to get Marty to learn how to fight, though Marty is struggling a bit.
    • As Lucina went back in time to save her world, as well as interacting with her parents and can even fall in love with someone else from the past, she has found Doc and Marty to be strong allies. The former is fascinated with Lucina can talk to her parents without damaging the space-time continuum and can sympathize with falling in love from someone from a different time. Marty, on the other hand, is impressed by Lucina’s combat prowess, and wishes that his interactions with his parents in the past went as smoothly as hers. Lucina is kind of grossed out by how Marty's mom practically fell in love with him, and Marty wholeheartedly agrees with her.
    • Hiro Nakamura found Doc to be a strong mentor, though he does chastise Hiro for having created a few paradoxes from trying to change the future, though Hiro has improved on this over time. He occasionally goes to Doc for advice regarding how to properly handle his time-travelling powers and when it's right to use them, but Hiro has managed to control and use his powers, and just enjoys the company. Marty finds Hiro to be a very fun person to be around, and somewhat appreciates Hiro’s geekiness, as well as being impressed by his abilities.
    • The two have a strong ally in Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese. Doc and Marty can only express sorrow for the cataclysmic state humanity would put themselves in, and sincerely applaud his bravery for going back and protecting Sarah from the Terminator. Sarah and Connor appreciate the sentiment, and like hearing about Doc and Marty’s adventures throughout time. This has led to Doc and Marty being enemies of both The Original T-800 and The T-1000. Not only do they just unnerve the two and are scary beings in general, the fact that they both went back in time to ensure the Bad Future would come to pass shocked them, and as such fiercely oppose. The Terminators really don’t care about them, but they do enjoy intimidating them on occasion.
  • For Emmet:
    • Rintarou Okabe and Doc are very close friends, due to both of them being eccentric time travelers who built their own time machines. Okabe is impressed by the fact that Doc built his time machine from nothing but a Delorean, but Doc just responded by saying that if you want to travel through time, you best do it in style. They enjoy having each other around, probably due to their respective intelligence.
    • Emmet has found a strange sense of friendship with The Pteranodon Family. Although he somewhat disapproves of their flagrant use of time travel, he does admit that it doesn’t seem to damage their timeline, and is pleasantly surprised by their knowledge of prehistory. He also found the fact that they time travel using a train to be funny, as he managed to make a Time Machine out of a train as well. The kids love Doc, seeing him as a great and funny role model, and the parents find him to be a smart guy and generally nice to be around.
    • Emmet became friends with, of all people, Cole Cassidy. They both bonded over their shared love of the Old West, and Cassidy was admittedly a little jealous that Doc actually got to live in it. Cassidy is also amused by Doc’s personality and intelligence, and Emmet thinks that he’s a good person beneath his snarky exterior. One thing Emmet did for Cassidy was invite him back to 1885 Hill Valley for a day and see what he thought of it. Cassidy enthusiastically accepted, and had the time of his life with Doc. As thanks, Cassidy told Doc that he and his family could always count on him if there’s any trouble.
  • For Marty:
    • As his father was relentlessly bullied by Biff Tannen when he was in high school as well as experiencing Biff’s aggression first hand, he has an appreciation for Jimmy Hopkins for being a Bully Hunter. Marty likes the kid and often asks him for help if Biff is giving him or any other deity a hard time, and Jimmy always takes up the offer. Jimmy finds Marty to be a cool guy, and enjoys showing him the things he’s made. He also gives Marty a few tips on how to fight bullies too, and Marty appreciates the help.
    • When Marty first met Kung Fury, he was a bit amused that the 80s would become as much an icon of nostalgia as the 50s were to him. After getting to know him a bit more, Marty found Kung Fury to be pretty badass dude, and is impressed by his fighting skills and heroic acts. They both meet up on occasion to do things that were popular in the 80s. On the subject of the 80s, Marty became with fast friends with Bill and Ted due to being icons of that decade and being fans of rock music, and they often like play music together in the latter’s temple. The three are good friends and always find a way to make themselves laugh. They have a blast together and are thinking about forming a rock band themed around the 80s.
  • When they discovered that Biff Tannen had also ascended, the two were naturally furious at seeing their old enemy, as Biff and his descendants were responsible for practically all the problems they had to fix. Biff was also sickened when he saw them again, and has begun to try to find a way to get rid of them for good. Marty and Doc have taken precautions to prevent Biff from messing with the timeline, and have advised their allies to the same as well.
  • Master Xehanort and his Incarnations and Judge Doom are strongly opposed by the two, as not only do they both sound like Doc, which greatly unnerves them, they’re just horrible people in general. They hate Doom on principle for being an unrepentant bigot towards toons despite being one himself, and Doom just scares them. The Judge doesn’t pay them much attention, though he has been meaning to keep an eye on them in case they meddle in his plans. As Xehanort and his selves frequently use time travel to set their plans in motion, Doc and Marty have made it known that they cannot stand the guy and often disrespect him when possible. The Xehanorts see the duo as beneath them and their plans, and could care less about them.
  • Doc and Marty quickly found themselves despising Dark Danny and Eobard Thawne/The Reverse-Flash for their deplorable actions and misuse of time travel. The two see Thawne as a truly sick, disturbed person whose constant going back in time to ruin the lives of his enemies is unforgivable and that his misdeeds should be stopped as soon as possible. Thawne himself is amused by the two, and enjoys scaring and threatening them when possible. Dark Danny being an evil version of the original Danny Phantom and going back in time to ensure that Danny became evil through whatever means necessary reminded them if 2015 Biff meddling with their timeline in order to make himself rich, and they see him as a vile, crazed man.
  • The story of Sol was a story that made Doc practically giddy with interest. Being trapped in life-long time loop, retaining past memories, and having prophetic dreams was something that piqued Doc’s curiosity, and he frequently interviews them and tries to get a firm grasp on Sol’s situation. For Sol’s part, they like visiting Doc, and enjoy telling them of their experiences. When they visit Doc, they will often run into Marty, and they found him to be a very nice kid to be around.
  • Phillip J. Fry and Lars Fillmore’s very existence intuited the two, as Fry being his own grandfather (which grossed Marty out) and Lars being a duplicate of Fry who managed to survive for a long period of time was something that Doc wanted to learn more about. Fry thinks the two are cool people, and sees Doc as a saner version of Professor Farnsworth, and Lars is happy to have company and to tell them his story as well.

[up] the two met the Transformers in the Transformers/Back to the Future crossover comic.

@Crownless Mimic, Doctor Octopus would try to stop Dongbaek, back during his Superior Spider-Man days he talked down a young teenager from reverting humanity back into the Stone Age. While remembering that he also nearly did this, which would motivate Otto to see if he can first talk, but then result to force if Dogbaek is too insane to be reasoned with.

For Dongrang. A think Otto and The Maker would understand where he’s coming from. They tried to be good scientists, but equal parts Freak Lab Accident and Status Quo Is God frustrates them how they’re almost not allowed to use their brilliant minds to change the world.

@Crimson Shark, [tup] to all three. Inigo Montoya can have My Name Is Inigo Montoya.

Updated Salaryman and Fetishist again.

Yatsu
  • Intermediate Gods(can evolve into Greater Gods through assimilation)
  • Symbol: Their combined form, a massive, Phallic metal...thing
  • Alignment: Tomoo: True Neutral(eventually Chaotic Good) Yatsu: Chaotic Evil
  • Portfolio: Both: Moody gray shading, Bizarre Imagery and Narrative, Nightmarish Mutations into Machinery, Bizarre Superpowers over Metal,Cybernetics Eat Your Soul, Can be interpreted as a ''really'' weird love story, Phallic Symbolism, Alternate Continuity

  • Enemies: Both: The Child Abuse Supporters, Darryl Revok
  • Special Relationship: Each other(brothers in one timeline)
  • Intrigued by:(Yatsu) The Thing, Sadako Yamamura,Tomie Kawakami
  • Pitied by: Meilin Lee(mostly Tomoo)
  • The story of the "Iron Men" begins with an average Japanese Salaryman and his girlfriend. One day, the unassuming businessman was driving home with his girlfriend until they accidentally ran over a pedestrian. This pedestrian, however, was the man known as "the Metal Fetishist" so called for his unusual fixation on metal applied to his body. The couple, unaware of this, believed the man dead, hid his body, and tried to move past their dark deed. But the Salaryman had received a curse or perhaps gift from the Fetishist. The man's body slowly began taking on the properties of metal, his mind plagued with horrific visions of a cybernetic nightmare. Eventually the Salaryman's transformation led to his girlfriend's death, and the Metal madman himself arrived to complete the transformation as part of his mad desire to share his agony with his victim. The two engaged in a brutal battle of metal and flesh, eventually combining into a monstrosity that sought to rust away the world with their newfound "love".
  • At least that's how one version of the story goes. Another account tells of a salaryman named Tomoo, who led an ordinary life with a loving wife and child, but had no memory of his past. That life was shattered when Yatsu, AKA the Metal Fetishist, targeted him for his depraved plans. Tomoo's young son was murdered, and he plunged into despair, awakening the metal-morphing powers he shared with Yatsu-actually his brother. Tomoo went on a brutal rampage against Yatsu's cult to save his wife, and soon discovered the truth of his past. The boys' father was a metal molding maniac as well, experimenting on his children to create human weapons. With this awful revelation, Tomoo succumbed to his brother's urging and evolved into a massive, tank like juggernaut. Amid the destruction however, it seems Tomoo found peace, as he apparently shifted back to human form with his wife and revived son.
    • Some time later Yatsu resurfaced, this time targeting another Cyborg named Anthony. Yatsu threatened Anthony's son to control him as a new weapon. But the super Cyborg fought the Metal Fetishist and ultimately averted suffering Tomoo's fate, and Yatsu was absorbed by Anthony's own power, gone for good...at least for now.
  • Eventually the Salaryman(Tomoo) was welcomed into the Pantheon gates. He hoped to find a nice place to settle down and put his metal nightmare behind him. Unfortunately there was a reason he was there, and the other inductee surfaced shortly after. Initially disoriented, the Metal Fetishist soon set to work seeking new metal to absorb and fuse with for power and pleasure. Tomoo was filled with terror as he realized his brother was coming for him. Yatsu seeks to expand his love of chaos and transform the Pantheon into his twisted view of beauty, and he wants to be one with Tomoo to do it.
  • Applies to Both:
    • Although they outwardly appear to human, both Yatsu and Tomoo will morph into horrifying machine monsters under stress, leaving unpredictable devastation where they go. Tomoo has tried to seek help for this, leading to him joining a "support group" of sorts with similar individuals like Dr. Bruce Banner and the Lycanthrope Larry Talbot. Banner knows well the trauma of being a walking weapon, and he's shared Tomoo some techniques to tame his anger. Yatsu, meanwhile, seeks to unleash the full extent of his power and enjoys the company of like-minded monsters, especially of the mechanical variety. One such is the Android psychopath Ultron, whose desire to replace humanity with cybernetic extensions of himself earned him the Metal Fetishist's respect. By chance, one of Tomoo's circle is Dr. Hank Pym, Ultron's creator. Pym is as ashamed of his monstrous son as Tomoo is his brother. Both agree their counterparts represent the worst impulses of themselves, and that it's their responsibility to destroy them.
    • A similar duo is the psychic "Scanner" terrorist Darryl Revok and his brother Cameron Vale. Despite his lack of social skills, Vale was interested in Tomoo's condition and believes he's found another ally. Revok, on the other hand, has decided that both Metal men are too dangerous and psychotic to be controlled. He's able to effectively strike Yatsu mentally, but the maniac's biomechanical nature allows him to bounce back quickly. Revok is still planning to destroy the metal monster, and Yatsu sneers at his arrogance.
    • If there's one ideal they share, it's that they both loathe abusive parents, especially since in one timeline their father was a selfish monster who turned them into what they are. While Yatsu isn't much better than his dad, he still sees his father in people like Ozai and seeks to destroy everything he built. Tomoo especially has it in for men like Gendo Ikari and Shou Tucker, who used their own children for their own selfish experiments, which in the case of Ikari had truly apocalyptic results. Dr. Gero stands out as the most similar, as while he did care for his son, he still created killing machines both organic and mechanical. Further unnerving Tomoo is that Gero has expressed interest in the two, believing he may have a better chance of studying and harnessing their powers.

  • Applies to Yatsu:
    • He's considered an insane abomination even among other world conquerors, if only that his insanity and dangerous powers make him too unpredictable. Besides Ultron, however, a few admire his monstrous ambition. Cell, the aformentioned Dr. Gero's deadliest creation, is on a journey to perfect himself and sees Yatsu's mission of spreading "the beauty of destruction" as similar. The cyborg Kaiju Gigan is generally a weapon for whoever points him somewhere, but Yatsu's technopathy lets him to communicate with the beast on more even footing, promising him new upgrades and places to destroy. Hank Henshaw, the hopelessly misanthropic Cyborg Superman, joins with Yatsu in the belief a fellow cybernetic entity can help bring an end to his tortured existence and destroy the world that spawned them. He's also caught the attention of SKYNET, who's thrilled at the prospect of creating man-machine hybrid Terminators with the Fetishist's unique powers. The evil AI assigned the shape-shifting T-1000 as a diplomat. A similarly sociopathic machine called AM(Allied Mastercomputer) has admitted it's impressed that a young human could transcend into a being that rivals itself in power and malice. Yatsu has experience as a cult leader, and preaches a new world of machines where organics are slaves and fuel, every evil automaton's dream.
    • Because of his metal-manipulating abilities, any descent person with this power deems him a disgusting monstrosity. Even mutant revolutionary Magneto, who generally dislikes humanity, believes Yatsu is a rabid dog who needs to be put down, much to the latter's disappointment, as he thinks Magneto could've been a great partner. Toph Bei Fong, hailing from a world where people can manipulate elements, has stated he's an insult to Benders everywhere. None of this really bothers the Metal Fetishist, as he thinks sooner or later, they'll all be absorbed into his glorious metal and succumb to his twisted vision.

@J99908

I think what Whirl is saying is that you should find an image that contains both Doc and Marty.

@Crownless

For Dongrang, Otis is a cow. For Dongbaek, she'd likely have an interesting interaction with Senku Ishigami, a young scientist who woke up in the distant future where humanity reverted to the stone age and works hard to bring back modern civilization and technology in record time, prompting the people of the future to discover those things for the first time.

A nitpick, but I'd personally swap the order in which Marty and Doc are mentioned. I can also give you a better picture of the two, if you want.

The work continues. Any more suggestions?

Monsignor Ronald Arbuthnott Knox, God of Fair Play Mysteries(Archbishop Knox)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ronald_knox.jpg

  • Borderline Demigod, Unknown Rank as a Witch Hunter
  • Symbol: The Knox Bible
  • Alignment: Neutral Good

  • Profile: From Anglican to Catholic Priest, disliked the ambivalence of the Anglican Church which led to to him getting cut out of his father's will, Vow of Celibacy, Deadpan Snarker, used Scholarships to make his way in Oxford, Satirized both religious and secular matters

  • Herald: His "daughter" Dlanor A. Knox
  • Allies: God(Bruce Almighty), God (God, the Devil and Bob), Batller Ushiromiya, Sherlock Holmes, Jeanne D'Arc, Saint George and Martha, Conan Edogawa, John Watson, Hercule Poirot, Columbo, Wright Anything Agency

  • Enemies: Dis, The Godhand, Griffith, Lord Belos, YHVH, Claude Frollo, Kirei Kotomine, The God-Emperor of Mankind

  • Mystery stories distinguish themselves from the thriller and horror genres not by simply having mystery, but by having that mystery being "fair": a logical result of the story's information, perhaps even solvable before the grand reveal. However, things were not always this way. Mystery stories were originally written to dangle a mystery in front of the reader and then show off the intelligence of detectives through contrived jumps in reason and observation. But in the Golden Age of Mystery, the genre came into its own by bringing readers into the interactive detective experience. The man who codified this age of Fair Mysteries was not a critic but the writer and Catholic Priest Ronald Knox.
    • Born in 1888 to the future Bishop of Manchester, Knox gained the respect of both peers and professors at Oxford, but what he really wanted to do was become a priest. Taking a vow of celibacy at 17, he was ordained as an Anglican priest and became the chaplain of Trinity College. Only 5 years later he resigned as an Anglican priest and became a Catholic Priest, to the great displeasure of his father, the Anglican Bishop of Manchester. From then on he became a highly respected priest, theologian, and Catholic apologist, with such feats as creating his own translation of the Bible and being denoted as a Protonotary apostolic by Pope Pius XII. However, he is also known for his work in analyzing and codifying the mystery genre through his mystery stories and the creation of the Knox's Decalogue.

  • No one knows how or when Ronald Knox ascended, but the first time he was seen was when a man with fatal injuries entered a church late at night. While the chapel was supposed to be empty when the man began his confession someone on the other side of the confession box replied to him. It was later discovered that this mysterious figure was none other than Knox, who believed that the last thing to be done for a dying man was to "Hear his confession and give him absolution".

  • Versions of God
    • Evil and Demonic forces

  • While he is a Catholic priest, Knox gets along perfectly with other kinds of Christians in the Pantheon as well as those of other regions. However, he seems to get into debates about religion very often, where his experience as a theologian makes him formidable. Deities now joke that "when Ronald starts debating religion, it's time to leave the event". In the Pantheon, he takes the position of Elysium Academy's head chaplain and as a theology teacher. Due to the diverse religious landscape of the Pantheon, this position has forced him to learn about many of the other religions to properly perform his duties. His opinion on these other religions? "They are all very interesting, but none of them match up with the Catholic tradition".
    • Being a Protonotary apostolic technically gives Knox authority below only the pope(citation required). This makes him the highest-ranking Catholic in the Pantheon. Instead of using his rank as a means of influence, he instead uses his charisma to smooth over disagreements between his fellow clergy and coordinate their efforts, becoming their de facto leader. This is a good change from the general lack of coordination from before his ascension, although he is often exasperated and frustrated by Alexander Anderson's enthusiasm for violence or Gaterbelt's inappropriate love for children due to the work of keeping them in line.
    • Of course, Knox loathes completely evil clergy who sully both God and Church. Chief among these are Claude Frollo(who was also the Archdeacon in the Book), who set Paris aflame due to his hypocritical lust and Kirei Kotomine for kidnapping children to provide Gilgamesh with magical energy and plotting to bring about All the World's Evil. However, he does acknowledge that both men had reasons for what they did, albeit twisted ones, and prays that god will forgive their sins.
    • Outside of the church, Knox is also grateful to meet other Christian figures such as the Saints in the Pantheon. He especially admires Jeanne D'Arc for her ability to inspire hope in others. Sometimes, Knox will even help her through her writing classes, in which she has shown amazing progress. Through their newfound friendship, Ronald also learned about YHVH, the false god who tried bringing the Maiden of Orleans over to his side for the cause of a corrupted law. Knox has vowed to use his influence to help steer people away from these evil versions of the Abrahamic god.
    • Those who turned away from the church for both understandable and not understandable reasons

  • While he died of cancer at the age of 69 in Real Life, in the universe of Umineko: When They Cry, the circumstances of his death are much more mysterious. In this universe, he was the Head Inquisitor of the Great Court of Heaven who created Knox's decalogue as weapons to combat witches(the sources of mystery), but was interrogated and executed by his daughter Dlanor A. Knox. For this reason, Dlanor appears as Ronald's herald whenever she a break away from her busy job, and the two seem to have a healthy relationship as father and daughter. It is speculated that Dlanor is either adopted given how the two look so different or that Dlanor is the embodiment of the Decalogue, which makes Knox her father because he "created" her. When asked about his past as a witch hunter, the priest simply says that he is retired and will leave the work fighting the supernatural to future generations. In fact, this aspect of his past is so murky that no one knows how powerful he would be if he used his inquisitor powers, nor would they want to know.
    • However, a stroke of fate revealed just a bit of that unknown power. When Lord Belos was pursuing Sarah Spellman for unknown reasons, the young witch was saved by the timely intervention of a holy wedge that pierced Belos's arm, which subsequently exploded. He was forced to flee, but not before confronting the priest.
Knox: I've heard that the Puritans were tough on themselves, but I guess the history books were wrong. After all, they seem to be pretty loose on fratricide.
Lord Belos: How did you...never mind that, why is a man of the cloth siding with an unholy witch?
Knox: Well, I don't think you could understand a full Thesis so let me just say this: God protects all people.

  • Although Dlanor has a reputation of being a ruthless judge, she's actually quite reasonable when it comes to witches and demons, able to interact with them peacefully with no issues and even volunteered to help defend the Golden Land against Bernkastel's forces for no reason other her own sense of justice. Whether this attitude came from Ronald or she influenced him towards her views is unknown, but the two are generally of the same mind that extremists like Belos bring shame to the name of Christ.
    • Dlanor has also told Knox about her Worthy Opponent Battler Ushiromiya, a mystery who fought to preserve his family's dignity even with the odds against him. The two often swap reading recommendations and are considering forming a fan club for mystery story fans. Knox doesn't actively seek to be friendly with Battler's supernatural allies, but he has no objection to them.

  • Outside of Christianity, Knox's crowning achievement was Knox's decalogue, a set of 10 rules to be used for writing mystery stories. While he acknowledges that the set is somewhat outdated, these rules represented a sea change in the mystery genre away from unsolvable mysteries towards "fairness". As a witch-hunter, these rules serve as powerful Anti-Magic tools that can enforce strong metafictional constraints. The decalogue can be found here.
    • Of all mystery stories, Knox's favorites are the ones of Sherlock Holmes, although this did not save Holmes from being made fun of in "The Adventure of the First Class Carriage". In fact, Knox is an early player of The Sherlockian game, which aims to create a full biography of Holmes and Watson by combining the original stories and real-life history. In fact, efforts like these might be why Holmes and Watson are prevalent in so many universes. When their schedules aligned and Knox was finally able to meet the Great Detective in person, he was uncharacteristically giddy, and he happened to walk away from the occasion with a signed copy of A Study in Scarlet and an enormous smile. Holmes and Watson are slightly confused as to why a catholic priest is so engaged with their mystery stories, but they don't give it much mind.
    • Besides Holmes and Watson, Knox has also met other famous detectives such as Hercule Poirot and Conan Edogawa. Knox is impressed at how Conan seems to solve so many cases without aging even a little bit, and prays that he can take down the Black organization one day. He thinks that Knox is an acceptable facsimile of Sherlock Holmes, but is unsure what to think about him killing the culprit in his last case. When it comes to more unconventional detectives, Knox is impressed by Lieutenant Columbo's ability to outsmart even the smartest culprits and untangle the most airtight cases.
    • Of course, one doesn't have to be employed as a detective in order to be a detective in a narrative sense. Knox is surprised that the Wright Detective Agency can even uncver so much information in the middle of the trial, especially since Pheonix has also tackled the English legal system. On the other hand, he wonders what that means for the competence of the police in their world.
    • The most controversial of the decalogue are Knox's 2nd and 5th, albeit for different reasons. Knox acknowledges that the 2nd("All supernatural or preternatural agencies are ruled out as a matter of course") was written in an age where magic was a way to create or solve problems without rhyme or reason, and that magic systems with well-established and consistent rules can have their place in mysteries. More troublesome is Knox's 5th: "No Chinaman must figure in the story". This was not a rule to exclude Chinese people from mystery stories, but instead a suggestion to avoid mystery stories that leaned upon cultural and racial stereotypes in lieu of substantive writing. However, Knox still agrees that this and some of the other commandments need tweaking, and has promised to work on it to incorporate the changing field of the mystery genre. Perhaps after he is done, Dlanor can start growing again.

  • One of the less well-known aspects of Knox's life is that he served in British intelligence during World War 1. The ascended forces of the Entente have asked if he wants to rejoin the fight against the German empire, but Knox has declined, stating that he finds his work as a priest to be more effective in the Pantheon, but he will sometimes provide chaplain services for the soldiers.

  • After the atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Knox wrote God and the Atom about the moral quandries arising from the development of nuclear weapons. As he concluded "perhaps we could not use them?", Knox is against the proliferation and escalation of nuclear warfare or other WM Ds. It is for this reason that he is asking the Court of Gods to create rules against the use of overly devastating weapons in warfare.

  • When he's not giving sermons or reading mystery novels, Knox loves to have a little bit of fun, and his definition of fun is making satires and hoaxes like he did in life. One time, he wrote against The God-Emperor of Mankind's attempt to gain greater influence over the GUAG by arguing in Switean manner that true "supporters of Humanity" should do their best to eliminate human zygotes and embryos, which "neither look nor speak like humans, and are therefore actually xenos". Needless to say, he was blacklisted from a lot of events sponsored by the Imperium from then on. In another incident, he redid his "Broadcasting from the Barracades" stunt, but instead created an entire pre-recorded live stream that showed the Pantheon being overtaken by a "revolution of disenchanted middle managers" in order to teach the deities of the Pantheon to not believe everything they see online.

  • During the height of France's Reign of terror, there was a man set to be executed in front of a crowd. When the executioner did not come, everyone still wanted the man dead, but none wanted to actually perform the deed. However, one man in the crowd, urged by his laboring wife, volunteered to do the grisly deed. At that same moment, the wife gave birth to Marguerite Breuilh. Born under the guillotine, Marie was mute for ten years, until she suddenly started singing about filling guillotines with blood, as well as manifesting a curse that decapitated all who touched her. Her father abandoned the family, her mother went insane, and she was executed as a witch via the same guillotine that she had been born under 17 years ago. But death would not be the end, as her powerful soul ascended to become a Godou god, and she became stranded in her realm, the Twilight Beach, outside of time for all eternity.
    • It was at this time that Mercurius, going by the name of Count Calistrogo, found Marie in the Twilight Beach and became convinced that she was the key for him to die. In order to ascend her as a true Hadou God, he created his greatest opera, a story involving the fight between the Longinus Dresden Orden against Ren Fuji and his friends. It worked, as thanks to her new experiences and bond with Ren she became the Fifth God to take the throne and created an era of unprecedented prosperity and happiness for the throne system through her system of coexistence and reincarnation.
    • However, good things do not last forever. Her world of affirming people's desires allowed Hajun to rise in power, convinced that it was the twilight's embrace that was infringing on his solitude. While Mercurius was able to start again and prevent Hajun's rise in a different scenario, this version of Marie died to Hajun and became another sacrifice for the "Pantheon" plan.

  • Marie once served as a herald to both Mercuruius and Ren, but this obviously led the two to start arguing who should have her more often. In order to defuse the conflict, Marie moved herself and The Twilight Beach to an entirely new temple and applied to become the Goddess of Kill exclusivity, representing the power of her Guillotine Curse. This definitely solved the former issue, but now when Ren and Mercurius visit at the same time a fight always seems to break out.

  • Ren, other Shinza Characters

  • While Ren and Shirou Emiya are rivals, Marie gets along well with her fellow blond-haired visual novel heroine Saber. It helps that they both love to eat food. It's said that when the two enter the same establishment at the same time, an alarm is sounded in the kitchen.

  • As a mortal who became a multiversal goddess that granted souls salvation by rewriting the laws of reality, Marie is often compared to the Goddess of Hope herself, Madoka Kamane. However, due to a stroke of fate, they had never met until Madoka's powers were stolen during the Rebellion. Thanks to their similar backgrounds and personalities the two are like peas in a pod: Marie hopes that she can help Madoka avoid her bad ending and make up with Homura, and Madoka is glad to have another friend that sees her as an equal and not an idol. Thanks to their friendship, Madoka has introduced Marie to more modern conveniences like video games and foreign teas, which Marie greatly appreciates. While Rinne Tensei is not a replacement for the Law of Cycles, Marie's presence makes the other Magical girls of the sisterhood feel relieved that divine power is still on their side.
    • The comparison between Marie and Madoka has led to homucifer supporters to come up with an interesting argument known as the "Hajun Hypothesis". The argument goes that if Homura did not take Madoka's powers, her position as goddess would have made her a target for unknown third parties (like how Hajun emerged). Critics have pointed out that not having god powers makes her more vulnerable to these threats, so the effort is useless at least. Marie has yet to comment on this matter.

  • Why did Mercurius think that Marie was the only one able to kill him? It all has to do with her Guillotine curse, which decapitates those who touch her (unless it is Ren or someone close to him). This curse bypasses regenerative abilities to kill the target, and can only be beaten by either having exponentially more power or an ability that specifically allows the user to survive death. She doesn't have enough power at the moment to kill deities like Aldia or SCP 682, but it's still incredibly strong.

  • Being a Benevolent Goddess

  • As an indirect victim of the Reign of Terror, Marie is interested in meeting with other French deities, especially those who lived during the time of the first French Revolution. She is especially surprised that Queen Marie Antoinette is in the Pantheon, and pities her for how the public distorted her image due to their hatred for the monarchy.

  • Her Law, Rinne Tensei, has two main precepts: Allowing people to reincarnate in order to have another chance at fulfilling their desires, and allowing multiple Hadou Gods to exist at the same time. This makes her the good counterpart to Chakravartin: while the Golden seeks to trap souls into the cycle of Samsara in order to control them, Marie created reincarnation as a way to give people second chances and make their dreams come true. For the most part it worked as discrimination between types of people decreased and souls grew and matured. In general, Rinne-Tensei is seen as a middle point between pure adherence to the status quo and trying to force a utopia, as it does not affect the course of mortal life but instead the cosmic stakes over doing good and evil.

  • While she has gained a lot of self-awareness and social skills from when she was singing about guillotines, she still remembers how the people around her shunned her due to fear and hatred. For that reason, she is sympathetic to people whose innocent but creepy traits have made them pariahs. One example is Erma Williams, a kind ghost girl who still creeps people out without meaning to. Marie has become good friends with the girl, and thinks that she has the potential to do a lot of good when she grows up.

  • The Twilight Beach

  • Now that she has a lot of free time in the Pantheon, Marie has been thinking about her reign on the throne and what she could have done differently(a rarity for Hadou Gods). Although it would be against her nature to force Hajun to bend to her will, she acknowledges that she could have been assertive instead of leaving everything to her guardians. Therefore, she has resolved to learn how to fight so she can stand up for herself without Ren having to defend her all the time or going against her law/nature. It was a trouble learning techniques that didn't immediately invoke the Guillotine Curse, but a goddess with her reputation had no trouble finding teachers:
    • After hearing about how the conflict between the Light Side and Dark Side was similar to the world of the First Throne, Marie approached Obi-Wan Kenobi in hopes of learning how to use a lightsaber, which would still be less lethal than normal contact. While Marie wasn't suited to using lightsabers, she was still able tp pick up a bit of knowledge about Obi-Wan's defensive strategy of outlasting the opponent to expose mistakes.
    • Next was the waterbender Katara, who focuses on redirecting her opponent's energy back at them. Marie doesn't have the talent to waterbend nor manipulate any elemental powers, but the idea of manipulating energy stuck in her mind.
    • During a party, Marie happened to meet Whis, an angel who is known for teaching Goku and Vegeta godly techniques. Marie asked Whis to train her in ways to defend herself whenever he had free time, and he agreed if Marie cooked something for him (and also because Zeno though her powers were cool). After Marie managed to figure out how to make a parfait, Whis started giving Marie short classes on martial arts. Due to her lack of experience progress is slow, it is consistent and Marie has now learned to do things like anticipate enemy strikes and strategically summon her Kumigara for attacks. Whis thinks that she may also have the potential to learn Autonomous Ultra Instinct, though only as a technique instead of a form like Goku.

[up][up]Ronald would doubtless be on frosty terms with Witches throughout the Pantheon. Luz Noceda and Amity Blight might be willing to work with him against Emperor Belos (which is how it should be worded FYI) but that's about it, and even then, they won't be happy about it, especially as Luz's adopted Basilisk sister Vee was abducted and nearly dissected by another wannabe Witch Hunter in Jacob Hopkins. Atsuko Kagari and those close to her probably wouldn't even work with him against Belos. Also Medusa Gorgon is an evil Witch.

[up] I think you missed the point of the paragraph. Witch Hunters in Umineko aren't fundamentalists, but more like cops who will let you off the hook for a ticket if you promise to fix your tail light. They're professionals who know the spirit of the law, which is why Dlanor only really does evil things because she's Erica's furniture. Additionally, the Knox bible translates Exodus 22:18 as "Sorcerers must not be allowed to live" rather than the traditional translation of witch, meaning Knox might have a slightly different view of the situation.

  • Mister Sinister was once Nathaniel Essex, a simple man who had the massive intelligence to clone others. Through this, the man would cheat death after dying in the Victorian Age. Even upon his actual death, his clones persevered, transferring his essence and himself to a new one every time he was destroyed. Mister Sinister would become an extremely powerful mutant thanks to a bargain with Apocalypse, who he eventually betrayed. Now setting his sights on creating the most powerful mutant in existence, Mister Sinister prioritizes cloning above all else. And he won’t even let death itself stop him in his mad quest. Terrorizing Scott Summers in an Orphanage he ran known as the State Home for Foundlings and wiping his memory each time, he’d end up becoming one of the biggest enemies to the X-Men, especially Scott Summers and his family.
