Species: Human
Quirk: Steel
Class 1-B's most Hot-Blooded member, he is always working to become 'manlier' and a better hero. His Quirk, "Steel", allows him to make his body more resistant to any type of attack.
  • Boring, but Practical: His Quirk just makes his skin incredibly hard and resistant, but given that Hero fights tend to get close and personal, it is very useful.
  • Chrome Champion: When using his Quirk, his entire body becomes metallic.
  • Demoted to Extra: He loses the Cavalry Battle and thus does not advance to the third round.
  • Elemental Hair Colors: Representing the element of metal, his hair is silvery.
  • Friendly Rivalry:
    • With Kirishima.
  • Hot-Blooded: He's rather loud and hotheaded, especially when it came to the students of Class 1-A, who he viewed as "obnoxious brats" before he got to know them.
  • Instant Armor: His Quirk turns his body into steel.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Tetsutetsu can be loud and brash, but he really is a good guy at heart and a Friendly Rivalry to those who earn his respect.
  • Meaningful Name: His name is composed of four characters with the same pronunciation, the first of which is the character for "iron".
  • Nigh-Invulnerable: Given his ability to turn to steel, it's very hard to land an actual blow on him. He's virtually bulletproof and can't be harmed by bladed weapons either in his steel form.
  • Personality Powers: His Quirk complements his adamant personality well.
  • Repetitive Name: Tetsutetsu is both his first and last name, though they're each written with different kanji.
  • Running Gag: All the similarities he has to Kirishima. Examples include Quirk, birthday, personality, internship, costume, etc.

    Neito Monoma — Phantom Thief

Neito Monoma — Phantom Thief

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/neito_monoma_anime_profile_2.png
Species: Human
Quirk: Copy
A sly and abrasive student from Class 1-B who is incredibly envious of Class 1-A's popularity, and obsessed with proving Class 1-B's superiority over them. His Quirk, "Copy", allows him to use the Quirk of anybody he touches for five minutes.
  • Boring, but Practical: His strategy in the Cavalry Battle is to not go for the 10 million point headband and instead try to stay at least in the middle of the pack by snatching other teams' headbands while they're distracted. Had he not thoroughly pissed Bakugo off, his team would have likely moved onto the next round.
  • Card-Carrying Jerkass: He harasses and bullies Class 1-A at every possible turn with comical relish.
  • Characterization Marches On: When Monoma's first introduced, he is treated as a legit threat to Class 1-A in the U.A. Sports Festival. Afterward, he is downgraded to a Smug Snake Unknown Rival comic relief who continues berating Class 1-A despite clearly not being better than them.
  • Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: He needs one whenever he interacts with Class 1-A. Usually from Kendo.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Parodied. He is deeply envious of Class 1-A's popularity and progress, but he takes it to such caricatural extremes that he passes off more as a loony annoying Troll than anything else.
  • Required Secondary Powers: Monoma can copy up to two powers for five minutes, though can only use one at a time. However, he explains he can only replicate the bare bones of the Quirk, so powers with prerequisites tend to be ineffectual in Monoma's hands. For example, if he were to copy Creation, he would need proper fats to use his lipids to create objects as well as the knowledge of the structure and materials needed to make such items. However, he seems to automatically know how to use a Quirk and doesn't suffer from How Do I Shot Web?.
  • Running Gag: Any time Class 1-A slips up in some minor manner, Monoma will be there to taunt them about it and blow it out of proportion... and then get karate chopped by Kendo, who apologizes for his behavior and drags him away.

    Itsuka Kendo — Battle Fist

Itsuka Kendo — Battle Fist

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/itsuka_kendo_anime_hero_costume.png
Click here to see her in uniform
Species: Human
Quirk: Big Fist
Class 1-B's class president, a friendly tomboyish girl who often has to keep Monoma in check. Her Quirk, "Big Fist", allows her to increase the size of her hands, with their strength growing exponentially the bigger they get.
  • Badass Adorable: A spunky and beautiful girl who is also the best female fighter of Class 1-B. In fact, Uwabami specifically requested her internship for this reason.
  • Class Representative: Of Class 1-B. She's friendlier and more tomboyish than most examples, but she still fills the role of keeping the rest of the class in line (especially Monoma).
  • Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: More often than not she has to stay around Monoma just to stop him from antagonizing Class 1-A too much, typically with a chop to the neck.
  • Cool Big Sis: Described as this for Class 1-B by Tetsutetsu, Uraraka and Present Mic. She's the one who reigns in the antics of Monoma and is the voice of reason among the class.
  • Fiery Redhead: Zigzagged. She has red hair and she's a quite fearless number during combat. Off-duty, she's a friendly and helpful Nice Girl.
  • For Want Of A Nail: She joins Uraraka's team on the cavalry battle, which ends with her moving up to the third round.
  • Heart Is an Awesome Power: The ability to make your hands grow doesn't seem that interesting compared to transforming into aliens or manipulating gravity, but whether it's useless or not depends entirely on how she uses it.
  • Ms. Fanservice: While not to the extent as Yaoyorozu, she still has her moments and was in fact considered pretty enough to model for a beauty product by Uwabami, a renowned model herself.
  • Tomboy: She is this.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: She comes up with a plan that accidently almost kills Midoriya by using Ghostfreak's weakness to light against him; and awakens something far scarier than death.

    Ibara Shiozaki — Maria

Ibara Shiozaki — Maria

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ibara_shiozaki_anime_profile_7.png
Species: Human
Quirk: Vines
A dainty and devoutly religious student from Class 1-B. Her Quirk, "Vines", turns her hair into long, thorny brambles that she can extend and control at will.
  • Badass Pacifist: To the point that it borders on Against My Religion. All of her fighting tactics amount to restraining the enemy, not really hurting them, and she has not used her thorns to wound anybody either. In line with her pristine image, she abhors senseless use of violence and having to resort to it at all.
  • Barrier Warrior: She can wrap her vines around herself or others as a shield or isolate foes from their teammates.
  • Elemental Hair Colors: Justified. Her green hair is actually made of brambles.
  • For Want Of A Nail: She joins Uraraka's team on the cavalry battle.
  • Lady of War: She's very graceful and serene, defeating opponents with her thorns in a pacific manner.
  • Large Ham: She's always acting like she's in a play, with her dramatic gestures and lines.
  • Looks Like Jesus: Rare female example, as she has strands of her vine hair wrapped around her head, looking like a crown of thorns.
  • Meaningful Name: "Ibara" means "thorns".
  • Nice Girl: Shiozaki is shown to be very kind and virtuous. As such, she's extremely sensitive about living up to a reverent existence, to the point that she becomes annoyed when Present Mic refers to her as an "assassin".
  • Not So Above It All: Even she is willing to hurt Izuku if it means she can get a 30-minute break from the Training Camp.
  • Personality Powers: Unsurprisingly, the girl with a crown of thorns turns out to be a religious Christian, in Japan no less.
  • Plant Hair: Her hair is a vegetable, but the rest of her appears to be normal. It also only needs water and sun to grow back, so she doesn't need to worry about getting bald.

    Juzo Honenuki — Mudman

Juzo Honenuki — Mudman

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/juzo_honenuki_anime.png
Species: Human
Quirk: Softening
A scary-looking yet soft-spoken and easygoing student from Class 1-B with a skeletal face, he enrolled in U.A. through recommendation. His Quirk, "Softening", allows him to soften any inorganic material he touches, effectively turning solid objects into semi-liquids.
  • The Ace: He's a recommended student just like Todoroki and Yaoyorozu, and he definitely has skills that match them both.
  • Determinator: He’s willing to have his own hands stabbed by Diamondhead’s crystals to help his teammates get in an advantage over him.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: One of the ways his Quirk can be used. By softening the ground, he can create quicksands.
  • Elemental Rock-Paper-Scissors: Limited. He was a pretty good counter to Diamondhead, but not good enough.
  • Hidden Depths: He likes giving and receiving massages.
  • Mellow Fellow: He's fairly relaxed and able to easily go with the flow in most situations.
  • Mucking in the Mud: The essence of his Quirk is making others go through this.
  • Nice Guy: He's a genuinely pleasant person who gets along with everyone in his class.
  • Nightmare Face: His face is very skeletal in appearance, having sunken eyes, a flat nose, and lacking lips. His hero costume includes a helmet that covers this up.
  • Super Swimming Skills: A strange case. He can turn solid ground into quasi-liquid thanks to his Quirk, so much indeed that he's able to literally swim in the ground to move around or escape when he's outmatched, as easily as if he were swimming in the sea.

    Kojiro Bondo — Plamo

Kojiro Bondo — Plamo

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kojiro_bondo_anime_profile.png
Species: Human
Quirk: Cemedine
A shy Class 1-B student with a golem-like appearance. His Quirk, "Cemedine", allows him to spray extremely adhesive glue from the holes of his head and control how fast it dries and hardens.
  • Ambiguously Human: Like Cementoss, he's less human and more like a golem.
  • The Faceless: The closest thing he has to a face is the series of holes in his head that he uses to spray superglue from.
  • Gentle Giant: Not counting those who can grow bigger via size shifting, he's the tallest out of all 40 students in U.A.'s hero course at 6'3". But as seen in Shrinking Violet, he speaks very softly and calmly and isn't very physically imposing despite his size.
  • Hidden Depths: He likes putting together scale models. His room is filled with them, but he rarely finds time to build them because he's quite busy with his hero studies.
  • Meaningful Name: Bondo can bond things with his Quirk. Also, his Quirk is named after a real Japanese glue brand/company. His hero name, Plamo, refers to the hobby of plastic modeling, something he himself enjoys doing.
  • Non-Human Head: He has a head resembling a glue dispenser.
  • Shrinking Violet: He's very shy and soft-spoken, and tends to stammer a bit when speaking.
  • Sticky Situation: His Quirk, "Cemedine", lets him spray superglue from his head.

    Pony Tsunotori — Rocketti

Pony Tsunotori

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pony_tsunotori_anime.png
Species: Human
Quirk: Horn Cannon
A sweet-natured Class 1-B girl who transferred to U.A. from America. She has horse-like legs and horns on her head. Her Quirk, "Horn Cannon", allows her to shoot her horns as projectiles, which regrow almost immediately, as well as telekinetically control up to two horns at once.
  • But Not Too Foreign: She's half-Japanese and half-American. Unlike most examples in manga and anime, Japanese is explicitly not her first language.
  • Fauns and Satyrs: Related to the above as she has the hooves, a short goat-like tail, and a set of horns. Unlike most cases, she covers most of her legs, though you can still see they are jointed differently, and as her name implies, her hooves are more like that of a horse.
  • Funny Foreigner: An exaggerated, upbeat girl from America who transferred to U.A. She speaks broken Japanese with a very obvious accent, as it isn't her first language.
  • Horn Attack: Her Quirk is a variation on this, as she can shoot her horns as projectiles as well as control them through telekinesis. Her horns will instantly grow back after she uses them.
  • Horned Humanoid: Has two huge horns atop her head that she can fire off using her Quirk.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Monoma duped her into insulting Class 1-A in their native language, which earned him an Eye Poke from Kendo.
  • Language Barrier: Her Japanese isn't polished, resulting in her inserting Gratuitous English into her lines and fumbling the pronunciation of certain words. Monoma exploits this by convincing her to unwittingly spew insults at 1-A under the guise of getting her intended words across.
  • Mind over Matter: Specifically with her horns, which she can control after launching them; only two at a time though.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: Similar to Tsuyu's case; she is far more cartoony than the rest of her class, with her face looking a lot like a Moomin's.
  • Occidental Otaku: Though she's half Japanese, she was born and raised in America and one of her interests is anime. She loves anime so much that she started hosting anime viewing sessions in the dorms, and everyone in Class 1-B knows a lot about anime thanks to her.
  • Older Than They Look: She looks young and is a little naive, but she's actually the oldest of her class and the second oldest between 1-A and 1-B, being only younger than Bakugo by a day.
  • Phenotype Stereotype: A variant. She's half-American and depicted with blonde hair and blue-green eyes.
  • Running on All Fours: She’s seen moving like a real horse in the cavalry battle while being ridden by one of her classmates.
  • Shout-Out: She's possibly one to My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, being an American named Pony and drawn in a style very similar to the show. Her costume, likewise, has a color-scheme similar to that of Applejack from the show.
  • Token Minority: She and Rin are the only known foreigners in 1-B, although in her case it’s downplayed since she’s half-Japanese.

    Kosei Tsuburaba — Tsuburaba

Kosei Tsuburaba — Tsuburaba

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kosei_tsuburaba_anime.png
Species: Human
Quirk: Solid Air
A walleyed student from Class 1-B. His Quirk, "Solid Air", allows him to create barriers of solidified air through his breath.
  • Barrier Warrior: His Quirk turns his breath into a solid barrier of air.
  • Blow You Away: An unique defensive variation. His barriers are made of air that comes out directly from his lungs.
  • Breath Weapon: He creates barriers of solid air, which he breathes out.
  • Clint Squint: His default expression seems to be stuck in this roving, bulgy-eyed look.
  • Covert Pervert: Horikoshi notes that his eyes are elongated into their squinty, elliptical shape because of his fixation with Mt. Lady's chest.
  • Hidden Depths: He likes ball sports and retro special effects.

    Jurota Shishida — Gevaudan

Jurota Shishida — Gevaudan

Click here to see his beast form
Species: Human
Quirk: Beast
A wealthy but shaggy Class 1-B student with a beastly appearance. His Quirk, "Beast", lets him transform into a large bestial form with enhanced strength, speed, and durability, as well as improved sight, hearing, and smell.

  • Beast Man: His Quirk gives him beast-like teeth and fur all over his body.
  • The Berserker: When he transforms into his beast form he becomes damn near unstoppable and tends to fight like a wild animal.
  • Character Tics: Refers to men as "sir" and women as "miss".
  • Genius Bruiser: A given since he references a well-known one. He is shown to be quite intelligent and has a very verbose way of speaking in addition to his raw power.
  • Hero-Worshipper: He greatly admires U.A.'s guidance counselor — the pro hero Hound Dog — due to their similar beastly Quirks.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • His hero name, "Gevaudan", is derived from the "Beast of Gévaudan", a gray wolf/dog from French folklore that typically is connected to werewolves.
  • Mythical Motifs: Werewolf, though it's subtle. His Quirk works more or less turning him from a man to a beast, just like the legend and his hero name is an allusion to the "Beast of Gévaudan", a French legend commonly associated with werewolves.
  • Nice Guy: He's very polite and respectful, be it in his normal form or his beast form, as was brought up in a very well-mannered and doting family.
  • Opaque Nerd Glasses: His glasses completely obscure his eyes.
  • Running on All Fours: Does this during the U.A. Sports Festival with Rin riding on his back.
  • Shout-Out:
    • To Beast. Both are beastly, furred Genius Bruisers who wear glasses, and his Quirk is named "Beast" like the character's codename. Alternatively, his Quirk makes him similar to Sasquatch from Alpha Flight as a hairy, bestial Sizeshifter with superhuman strength.
    • His hero name, Gevaudan, refers to the Beast of Gévaudan, which attacked over 200 people between 1764 and 1767.
  • Sizeshifter: His Quirk increases his size, to the point where he can hold a normal person in one hand.
  • Sleepy Head: He likes naps.
  • Younger Than They Look: Despite looking like he could be in his early twenties, he's actually the youngest student in both class 1-B and 1-A.

    Yui Kodai — Rule

Yui Kodai — Rule

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yui_kodai_anime.png
Species: Human
Quirk: Size
A stone-faced and quiet Class 1-B girl. Her Quirk, "Size", allows her to increase and decrease the size of any non-living objects she touches.
  • Clueless Dude Magnet: Apparently boys in her middle school formed a fan club for her, but she never noticed.
  • Emotionless Girl: She's very stoic and rarely if ever seems to display any emotions.
  • First-Name Basis: With Kendo. Due to the fact Kendo refers to her by her given name rather than her surname with honorifics, the implication is that she and Kendo are close. She herself also calls Yanagi by her first name.
  • Ink-Suit Actor: This is her seiyuu Yurianne Eve. It's eerie how similar they look.
  • Matryoshka Object: She has a fondness for Matryoshka Dolls.
  • The Quiet One: Rarely speaks, preferring to communicate through nods. When she does speak, it's usually only one word.
  • Sizeshifter: She can change the size of any object she touches.
  • The Stoic: She almost never emotes.

    Reiko Yanagi — Emily

Reiko Yanagi — Emily

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/reiko_yanagi_anime.png
Species: Human
Quirk: Poltergeist
A creepy, verbose Class 1-B girl. Her Quirk, "Poltergeist", allows her to telekinetically control nearby objects of up to the weight of a regular human.
  • Character Tics: Her odd body posture, where she bends her elbows upwards and lets her hands dangle, which somewhat resembles ancient depictions of zombies, ghosts, and other undead creatures. Considering how her Quirk works, though, this could also suggest a puppet master.
  • Curtains Match the Windows: She has gray hair and gray eyes.
  • Emotionless Girl: She rarely emotes at all.
  • Long-Range Fighter: Her telekinesis Quirk allows her to hit quite hard with whichever object she may use but she herself is incredibly fragile if attacked directly.
  • Mind over Matter: Her Quirk lets her hurl objects of up to a regular human's body weight at her opponents.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: Downplayed. She likes reading creepy stories online, and she hosts horror movie nights in the dorms.
  • Sesquipedalian Loquaciousness: She has an overly-verbose, pedantic way of speaking, with her classmates having to "translate" her words to people who are not accustomed to her language.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Participates in the plan that accidentally almost kills Midoriya; and results in awakening something far scarier than him.

    Setsuna Tokage — Lizardy

Setsuna Tokage — Lizardy

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/setsuna_tokage_anime.png
Species: Human
Quirk: Lizard Tail Splitter
A talkative, cunning and rather brassy Class 1-B girl who enrolled into U.A. through recommendations. Her Quirk, "Lizard Tail Splitter", allows her to split her body into multiple pieces that she can control, as well as regenerate if they are destroyed.
  • The Ace: One of Class 1-B's recommended students alongside Honenuki, making her this by default.
  • Animal Motifs: She really likes dinosaurs, which ties into her lizard or reptile motif.
  • Animal-Themed Superbeing: Lizards. Her family name is a homophone for "lizard", her hero name is Lizardy, her hero costume makes her look like she's covered in scales, and her Quirk is called "Lizard Tail Splitter". While her abilities are based on how real lizards can detach their tails as a defense mechanism and regrow them over time, Setsuna is able to split her whole body into pieces and weaponize them.
  • Body Horror: Is there any other way to describe floating chunks of a human body that can move around independently from one another?
  • Covert Pervert: Instead of screaming her head off like her classmates due to Deku’s Wardrobe Malfunction, she smirked and seemed to be enjoying the view.
  • Detachment Combat: Her specialty. She can split her body into pieces (up to 50) and move around while being split.
  • Flight: While in detached form, she is able to levitate.
  • Gyaru Girl: She was one of these in middle school.
  • Healing Factor: In the event that any of her body parts are destroyed, she can regenerate them over time. However, because this is incredibly exhausting for her, she prefers to recall as many of her body parts back as she can to conserve energy.
  • Meaningful Appearance: Her hair is green, to complement her reptilian theme.
  • Meaningful Name: Her family name is a homophone for "lizard" in Japanese, and her given name contains the kanji for "to cut".
  • Motor Mouth: She's noted to be very talkative.
  • Required Secondary Powers: The individual pieces of her body can levitate, giving her much greater control over the playing field than if they just stayed on the ground. This allows her headpieces to fly far above the battle while she uses her other parts as projectiles.
  • Scary Teeth: Though not as pronounced as Tetsutetsu's, her teeth are sharp.
  • Shout-Out: A pretty clear one to Buggy from One Piece. She has almost his exact power, except splitting into more pieces is harder for her, and she doesn't seem to have the "feet must be on ground" restriction.
  • Younger Than They Look: She's only 16, but she could easily pass for an adult due to wearing more adult clothing as a civilian.

    Kinoko Komori — Shemage

Kinoko Komori — Shemage

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kinoko_komori_anime.png
Species: Human
Quirk: Mushroom
A silly-looking and eccentric Class 1-B girl who wants to become an idol hero. Her Quirk, "Mushroom", allows her to emit spores from her body that instantly sprout mushrooms on any surface. The range and speed of these spores depend on how humid the area is.
  • Alliterative Name: Kinoko Komori.
  • Body Horror: She can grow mushrooms on anything. This includes on a person's skin and even inside people's throats.
  • Festering Fungus: Effectively what her Quirk does.
  • Green Thumb: Mushroom-specific. Her Quirk allows her to create mushrooms anywhere her spores reach. That includes a person's skin and even inside people.
  • Hidden Depths: In accordance to her Quirk, she possessess extensive knowledge of all types of fungi and can apparently name them all.
  • Pungeon Master: It seems that she mush't make mushroom-related puns whenever she shii-talks.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Edible mushrooms, obviously.
  • Verbal Tic: She often ends her sentences with "shroom".

    Manga Fukidashi — Comicman

Manga Fukidashi — Comicman

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/manga_fukidashi_anime.png

An upbeat Class 1-B student whose head resembles a speech bubble. His Quirk, "Comic", allows him to manifest onomatopeias into reality as giant letters that also carry the properties of the sound they are based on.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: His design is pretty ridiculous, but his Quirk is extremely powerful and versatile, especially when he has good synergy with his teammates.
  • Friend to All Children: His dream is to use his Quirk to bring smiles to children all around the world.
  • Hidden Depths: He likes drawing, which is obviously fitting.
  • Lethal Joke Character: His rather ridiculous appearance makes it easy to dismiss him as some Comic Relief that can't do much. But his Quirk is one of the most powerful of Class 1-B, even though he himself is more of a Squishy Wizard.
  • Nice Guy: He's an incredibly positive guy who likes making children happy.
  • Non-Human Head: One of the oddest examples. He has a Speech Bubble for a head.
  • Precision F-Strike: When he places 40th in the Obstacle Race, his text bubble says ".....!! Shit!!"
  • Sizeshifter: Of sorts. His height varies between 140 cm (4'7") and 160 cm (5'2") depending on the size of his Speech Bubble head.
  • Speech Bubble: His head is a fully-functional speech bubble, which quotes his thoughts.
  • Squishy Wizard: His Quirk is powerful, but he himself is rather weak.
  • Tiny Schoolboy: The shortest boy of Class 1-B and also among the weakest if attacked directly.
  • Words Can Break My Bones: His Quirk allows him to bring onomatopoeia into reality.

    Togaru Kamakiri — Jack Mantis

Togaru Kamakiri — Jack Mantis

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/togaru_kamakiri_anime_profile_6.png
Species: Human
Quirk: Sharp Edge
An aggressive and cutthroat Class 1-B student with an insectoid appearance. His Quirk, "Sharp Edge", allows him to protrude blades from anywhere on his body.
  • Absurdly Sharp Blade: Can produce these from any part of his body, including the soles of his feet, and they're sharp enough to slice through metal pipes as if they were butter.
  • Animal Motifs: The praying mantis, obviously.
  • Astonishingly Appropriate Appearance: He likes collecting bugs and looks like one.
  • Blade Below the Shoulder: Below the shoulder, above the knee, he can have blades anywhere on him!
  • Close-Range Combatant: A very dangerous melee fighter who can use his blades to stab and skewer his opponents.
  • Lean and Mean: Obviously downplayed as he's not a villain, but he's tall, skinny, and very aggressive and disagreeable.
  • Meaningful Name: His name contains the kanji for "scythe/sickle", "cut", and "apex". His surname means "praying mantis".
  • Non-Human Head: He has the head of a praying mantis.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hiryuu_rin_anime.png

A foreign student who moved from China to Japan when he was in elementary school. His Quirk, "Scales", allows him to grow hard scales from his skin that he can use as armor or fire as razor-sharp projectiles.
  • More Dakka: Hiryu can rapidly fire his scales like a machine gun.
  • Scaled Up: His Quirk allows him to grow hard, sharp scales from his skin.
  • Spike Shooter: Rather, scale shooter, but Hiryu's Quirk allows him to fire the scales he generates like bullets.
  • Token Minority: He and Pony are the only known foreigners in Class 1-B. However, he plays it straight as he's explicitly stated to be from China with no known Japanese heritage, while Pony is half-Japanese from the States.

    Sen Kaibara — Spiral

Sen Kaibara — Spiral

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sen_kaibara_anime.png

A serious and quite proud Class 1-B boy. His Quirk, "Gyrate", allows him to rotate any part of his body like a drill.
  • Abnormal Limb Rotation Range: His Quirk lets him rotate his limbs around. This lets him use them like drills.
  • Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy: Has shades of this as he's shown to be brazen and proud.
  • Dash Attack: His preferred move as his drills can pierce human flesh very easily.
  • Punny Name: His name contains the kanji for "senkai" meaning "gyrate", which is also the name of his Quirk.
  • Spin Attack: Comes with the territory given his Quirk. He can turn his limbs into drills but he can also twirl to cause damage with his whole body or wrench himself off if someone tries to grab him.

    Yosetsu Awase — Welder

Yosetsu Awase — Welder

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yosetsu_awase_anime.png

A loud-mouthed but brave and honorable student from Class 1-B whose Quirk, "Weld", allows him to merge any two objects he touches, organic or inorganic, at an atomic level.

  • Badasses Wear Bandanas: He wears a bandana tied into a headband around his head.
  • The Bait: He, unwillingly, acts as this for Chainjaw.

  • Meaningful Name: His given name is Japanese for "to weld".
  • Merging Machine: Well, merging person. He can fuse objects down to the molecular level by simply touching them both at the same time.
  • Pinned to the Wall: By merging objects together and merging them with his opponents' clothes and a wall, he can effectively do this.
  • Stone Wall: His Quirk has little direct combat potential and does not provide any kind of mobility advantage, but he can quickly tie his foes down if they aren't careful and withstand their attacks by merging together shields and armor.
  • The Bait: He, unwillingly, acts as this for Chainjaw.

    Shihai Kuroiro — Vantablack

Shihai Kuroiro — Vantablack

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shihai_kuroiro_anime.png
Species: Human
Quirk: Black
A discreet and tricky Class 1-B boy with jet-black skin due to his Quirk, "Black", which allows him to merge into anything black and control it to an extent. He seems to have a rivalry with Tokoyami due to their similar powers and personalities.
  • Amazing Technicolor Population: His skin is jet black.
  • Animate Inanimate Object: He can merge into, and control to an extent, anything that is black-colored.
  • Ascended Extra: Has an expanded role in the Training Camp Arc, in which he joins Momo, Awase and Kraab to destroy a jamming device that's preventing them from calling for help.
  • Cannot Talk to Women: He’s really bad at talking to girls.
  • Chuunibyou: He's "awakened to the truth", and has a similar outlook as Tokoyami.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Prefers to lurk in the shadows and makes good use of deception in battle, but is ultimately a good-natured hero in training.
  • Meaningful Name: His name contains the kanji for "black", "color", and "domination". His hero name, Vantablack, is the trademarked name for a chemical substance that was the darkest artificial substance known to man at the time.
  • Perpetual Frowner: He is constantly seen with a scowling expression.
  • Shadow Walker: He can merge into anything that is black-colored, which logically includes shadows, and also use them to hide in, even if said shadow is significantly smaller than what logic would dictate.
  • Slasher Smile: Sports one whenever he isn't frowning.

    Nirengeki Shoda — Mines

Nirengeki Shoda — Mines

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nirengeki_shouda_anime.png
Species: Human
Quirk: Twin Impact
The vice president of Class 1-B, a humble and responsible student. His Quirk, "Twin Impact", allows him to, anywhere he has already made a strike, remotely trigger a second, much stronger impact.
  • Acrofatic: He's much stouter than anyone else in either class, but he's still quick on his feet and in the air. In his class, he's known as the mobile adonis, or "chubby with the moves!" in some translations.
  • Boxing Battler: His name translates to "palm strike, two-hit combo", he likes boxing matches, and he's a close-combat fighter who packs quite a mean punch.
  • By the Power of Grayskull!: He has to say his Quirk's name to create the second impact.
  • Child-Like Voice: Fitting his scout, cute design, Shoda has a rather boyish voice.
  • Extra Turn: His Quirk effectively allows him to do this.
  • Foil: To Mineta. Both are unathletic-looking short guys who lack the Heroic Build. But where Mineta's Quirk is mostly used for traps, capturing and fast movement, Shoda's Quirk is much more offensive. Also, where Mineta is just as weak as he looks in close-quarters combat, Shoda is actually a Pint-Sized Powerhouse.
  • For Want Of A Nail: Wasn't brainwashed by Shinso in the cavarly battle here.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: He's a Tiny Schoolboy, but still quite the heavy hitter.
  • Stout Strength: He's chubby and small but he hits much harder than you'd expect from a boy his size.
  • Tiny Schoolboy: He is the second shortest boy in his class, next to Manga Fukidashi.

Support Department

    Mei Hatsume

Mei Hatsume

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mei_hatsume_one27s_justice_2_artwork.png
Click here to see her in uniform
Species: Human
Quirk: Zoom
A self-absorbed but brilliant student from the Support Department. She loves making gadgets and relishes the opportunity to show them off. However, she's so obsessed with them that she loses sight of everything else, making a scene at the expense of other people. She helps the Midoriyas fix the Rustbucket when it’s destroyed after a battle with Rojo and the Road Crew. Her Quirk is "Zoom", which gives her telescopic vision.
  • Anime Hair: Her hairstyle looks like a bunch of sea anemone fronds.
  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: She has a short attention span regarding anything that doesn't involve her babies.
  • Brutal Honesty: Hatsume is rather tactless, saying whatever she thinks regardless of social appropriateness.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: She may be a bit scatterbrained and she may have some seriously skewed priorities, but there is no denying that she is a brilliant inventor.
  • Crazy-Prepared: She has a veritable treasure trove (or depending on the individual, one great big oversized junk drawer) of inventions just lying around at school to accommodate nearly any kind of situation.
  • Ditzy Genius: A very intelligent Wrench Wench who lacks any social cues.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: Her eyes look like crosshairs. This is justified given her Quirk.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: Goes without saying as a representative of the Department of Support, but even Power Loader says that she's an incredibly rare talent even by the department's standards.
  • Genki Girl: She is quite energetic, going from one topic to another, especially in regards to her inventions, which she seems to be utterly obsessed with.
  • Goggles Do Something Unusual: They compound the magnification of her Zoom Quirk.
  • I Call It "Vera": Calls her gadgets her "cute little babies".
  • It's All About Me: Downplayed. She bears no ill will, or a desire to tear others down to promote herself, but her prime concern are her inventions and promoting them wherever she sees fit, often without solicitation.
  • Mad Scientist: Gadgeteer in this case as she's very enthusiastic about her inventions. Some of them are genuinely useful and helpful. A big proportion of them either fail to work, are potentially dangerous due to bugs and flaws, or they blow up.
  • The Madness Place: When she really gets into her work, she'll happily forgo things like sleeping or bathing.
  • Meaningful Name: Her name comes from "hatsumei", the Japanese word for "invention".
  • Shameless Self-Promoter: She'll take any opportunity to promote her own inventions. This is demonstrated during her match against Iida — she spends time advertising her inventions to the watching support companies, then throws the match, much to Iida's displeasure.
  • Sitcom Archnemesis: Power Loader, who oversees the Support Department. He regularly gets annoyed with her antics, which often result in chaos. He has even threatens to kick her out on a regular basis.
  • Super-Senses: Her Quirk gives her telescopic vision. While it can have many uses, it comes in particularly handy for an inventor working on particularly small components or electronics.

U.A. Faculty

    All Might

Toshinori Yagi — All Might

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/all_might_hero_form_full_body_9.png
The Symbol of Peace
Click here to see his real self post-injury
Species: Human
Quirk: One for All (Formerly)
Japan's Greatest Hero, the Symbol of Peace, and Izuku's lifelong idol. His true identity is Toshinori Yagi, which only a select few people know. Years before the main story, Toshinori suffered an injury that took out most of his internal organs. As a result, he's slowly being unable to continue as a Hero, as such he's begun to look for a successor, becoming a teacher at U.A. to find one.

"One for All", the Quirk he inherited, allows him to stockpile an enormous amount of raw power, allowing him to significantly enhance all of his physical abilities to a superhuman level. This results in unbelievable levels of strength, speed, agility, and durability that make All Might nearly invincible.
  • All for Nothing: All Might tries to take down Vilgax by using the remaining power of One For All he has left. Only to find out to his horror that all it did was cause Vilgax to bleed only a single drop of blood.
  • Big Good: He is the "Symbol of Peace" after all. In fact, the universe knows about him and his strength.
  • Brought Down to Normal: He tries to finish off Vilgax with the remaining embers of One For All he has left, which rendered Quirkless once again.
    • This later turns out to be beneficial as when Vilgax tried to drain All Might's power with the Charlotte Project, it didn't work. Unfortunately, this now set Vilgax on finding who has One For All.
  • Condescending Compassion: Deconstructed. While All Might's suspicions towards Izuku are born out of genuine concern but he completely disregards the feelings of a boy who longed for acknowledgment and accusing him would do more harm than good.
  • Hypocrite:
    • All Might dissuades Izuku from pursuing hero duties due to his Quirkless nature despite he himself was once Quirkless. To be fair, he does acknowledge how hypocritical he was.
    • He advocates that people should judge others based on their actions rather than their abilities and yet he ignored all of Izuku's goodwill and still accused him to be a villain.
  • Improperly Paranoid: He suspects Izuku might be in league with All For One due to misunderstanding the boy's powers. This comes back to bite All Might when Izuku does become a threat to him after his accusations became too much for him to handle.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: It's revealed that Nezu, Thirteen, and Gran Torino didn't inform All Might about aliens to not put too much responsibility on him. His former sidekick and close friend David Shield and his daughter Melissa are both aware of aliens secretly living on Earth, the former even being a scientist for the Plumbers, but neither told him.
    • With no knowledge about the existence of aliens, All Might believes that Midoriya obtained his powers from a deal his father made with All For One.
    • He is made aware of the truth after being kidnapped by Vilgax.
  • Must Make Amends:
    • Under the belief that Izuku is under All For One's control, All Might readily offers to teach him in hopes the latter won't become a villain. We and those close to Izuku know the real story.
    • He then dedicates himself to regaining Izuku's trust for not only ruining his dreams but also for accusing him, which led to the boy going into a blind rage as Heatblast during an exam.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: All Might knows he blew it when his actions drive Izuku into a mental breakdown and goes on a rampage, nearly killing several people in the process.
    • He is utterly horrified and ashamed of himself that he used one of his Smashes against Izuku.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: His paranoia about Izuku's "alleged" affiliation with All For One does nothing but push Izuku away.
    • His suspicion of her best friend also drives a wedge in his relationship with his protégé, Uraraka.
  • The Paranoiac: For all his strength and bravado, All Might is terrified of his Arch-Enemy, All For One which is why he is suspicious of Izuku and ignores everyone else, including Ochaco's opinion of the boy on the off-chance that he maybe in league with the villain. In fact, when Izuku(as Heatblast) unknowingly hits All Might's Achilles Heel, the Pro Hero is instantly reminded of All For One and uses one of his Smashes in panic.
  • Secret Secret-Keeper: As a previous user, he obviously keeps the secret of One For All
    • And now, he also keeps the secret about aliens and the Omnitrix
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Many people, as well as Aizawa, Ochaco, and Thirteen, chew All Might for how he treated Izuku.
    • Downplayed Trope for Nezu and Gran Torino who are more understandable towards All Might. Although they do understand his reasons, they just don't approve of how he acted.

    Principal Nezu

Principal / Magister Nezu

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_nezu_full_body.png
Species: Unknown Animal
Quirk: High Spec
A rare example of an animal possessing a Quirk, Nezu's intelligence eventually allowed him to become the principal of U.A. Secretly, he's also the head of the Japanese Plumbers.
  • Adaptational Job Change: Downplayed. He's still the principal of U.A. like in canon. Here, he also has a second job, that being leading the Japanese branch of the Plumbers.
  • Big Good: Nezu's not only the principal of a school full of heroes but he's also the head of the Japanese Plumbers.
  • Brutal Honesty: After's Izuku's mental breakdown against All Might due to his tactless answer of denying him his dream due to his Quirklessness, Nezu while disappointed with the way All Might handled the situation agreed that Izuku attempting to join the Hero Course would be foolish as he hadn't done anything to try and achieve that dream such as training, martial arts, or honing his tactical analysis. Aizawa while taken a back by the Principal's bluntness, couldn't help but mentally agree that Izuku did nothing but dream till he got his "Quirk".
  • Decomposite Character: He takes Max's role as the lead Plumber.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Nezu hits this when the Magistratus refused to offer their assistance in saving Izuku and All Might from Vilgax's clutches.
  • Not So Stoic: He's outright outraged when the Magistratus, the top leaders of the Plumbers, refuse to grant aid to save Izuku and All Might from Vilgax.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: The faculty of U.A. knew something was seriously wrong when Nezu of all people wasn't paying much attention to their meeting, as he didn't even notice when Detective Tsukauchi entered the room.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Knowing the kind of job a Plumbers work is, he basically covers for Izuku and Uraraka whenever the Pro Heroes get close to alien matters.
    • He's one of the few people who didn't chastise All Might for accusing Izuku, finding logic behind his reasoning, but he does admit he's still very disappointed about him.
  • The Smart Guy: Is the smartest Earthling alive, comparable to Galvan like Grey Matter. He thinks several steps ahead of almost everyone and plans for most outcomes. He certainly takes every chance he can get to remind everyone of this fact.
  • Trickster Mentor: This is Nezu we're talking about.

    Eraserhead

Shota Aizawa — Eraser Head

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shouta_aizawa.png
Erasure Hero
Species: Human
Quirk: Erasure
The "Underground" Erasing Hero and homeroom teacher of Class 1-A. While he may be generally apathetic and lazy about things that do not interest him, he has an eye for talent and ingenuity while having zero patience for any student that doesn't take U.A seriously. His Quirk, "Erasure", allows him to nullify others' control over their Quirks just by looking at them. Blinking dispels the effect of his Quirk and using it gives him dry eye.
  • Badass Teacher: He's Class 1-A's homeroom teacher and a Pro Hero who can take on a small army of villains by himself.
  • Creepy Good: His appearance and smile are off-putting but he is very much a hero.
  • It's All My Fault: He blames himself for Izuku's breakdown during the exam, because while he did notice that Izuku was troubled, he didn't do anything about it because he believed it was simply nerves before the exam.
  • Locked Out of the Loop:
    • Does not know about Aliens.
    • He didn't know about the strained history between Izuku and All Might only finding out later after Izuku went on a rampage as Heatblast.
  • The Mentor: While his class was interning, he gave Shinso some combat training and even taught him how to use his signature capture weapon.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Aizawa shares blame for Izuku's breakdown when he places Izuku with Bakugou against All Might, the latter two being Izuku's stressors. Aizawa even admits that he shouldn't have done that in his apology to Izuku.
  • Papa Wolf: Despite being seen as apathetic at best, Aizawa cares deeply for his students. He becomes livid when he learns All Might crushed Izuku's dreams.
  • Secret-Keeper: Learns about Aliens and Izuku's Quirkless in chapter 79.
  • Situational Sword: Since his Quirk only works on other Quirks he can't affect alien biology.
  • Spotting the Thread: Being unable to De-power Izuku causes Aizawa to suspect about Izuku's "Quirk".

    Vlad King

Sekijiro Kan — Vlad King

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vlad_king_full.png
Blood Hero
Species: Human
Quirk: Blood Control
The homeroom teacher of Class 1-B. His Quirk is "Blood Control", which allows him to control blood.
  • Bad Powers, Good People: Manipulating and weaponizing blood is hardly a heroic power, but he is still a pro hero and a teacher.
  • The Big Guy: As imposing and solid as Endeavor.
  • Bilingual Bonus: His surname, Kan, means blood, but in Turkish.
  • Bloody Murder: He can weaponize blood.
  • Fang Thpeak: A speech impediment that strikes vampires (and other fanged creatures, as well), where their spoken s's become th's or, more often, sh's.
  • Fangs Are Evil: Inverted. He has a pair of conspicuous fangs sticking out from his lower jaw but he's a seasoned pro hero and is firmly on the side of U.A..
  • Heroes Love Dogs: He has a dog at home.
  • Heroic Build: A tall and conspicuously muscular man.
  • Meaningful Name: Kan is Turkish for blood. His name also contains the kanji to "vessel", "red" and "love", mostly referring to his powers of manipulating blood. His hero name is "Vlad King", a reference to Vlad the Impaler, the inspiration behind Dracula.
  • Our Vampires Are Different: He has fangs like a vampire and a blood motif, but none of the other classic vampiric traits.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: Inverted. He is mostly clad in red with black details, even his eyes are red and he seems to have a permanent scowl, but he is a hero nonetheless.
  • Required Secondary Powers: He uses his own blood to make constructs without dying, so he must have more inside him than the average person.
  • Secret-Keeper: Learns about Aliens and Izuku's Quirkless in chapter 79.
  • Shout-Out: To the Romanian Prince Vlad Tepes, who inspired Dracula, hence his hero name and blood-based Quirk.
  • "X" Marks the Hero: His lower left cheek sports an X-shaped scar.

    Present Mic

Hizashi Yamada — Present Mic

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/present_mic_anime_artwork.png
Voice Hero
Species: Human
Quirk: Voice
A hero who doubles as a DJ. Usually plays the role of event announcer whenever one is required. He is also an English teacher. His Quirk is "Voice", which allows him to heighten the loudness of his voice for offensive purposes.
  • Anime Hair: His hair is some sort of reverse pompadour that is three times bigger than his own head. This is actually only part of his hero costume, a sketch of him with casual clothes shows his hair is usually down and he is pretty normal looking.
  • Bad "Bad Acting": His acting is just as loud and over the top as everything else about him.
  • Badass Teacher: Besides being a pro hero and radio DJ, he's also bilingual in Japanese and English and is U.A.'s English teacher. Unfortunately for him, most students find his subject material — grammar, conjugations, etc. — to be less than thrilling.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: He might be the Life of the Party, but he's still a teacher at U.A. and has the skills to prove it.
  • Big Word Shout: Justified as his Quirk is making his own voice louder:
  • Big "YES!": This is actually one of his attacks, where he simply screams "YEAH!" at an enemy as loud as he can. With the way his Quirk works, it's actually pretty effective.
  • Brick Joke: During the entrance exam, Midoriya mentions that Present Mic hosts a weekly radio show. During the Final Exams, he plugs it while Aizawa is narrating his Boss Subtitles.
  • Catchphrase: "Everybody Say Hey!"
  • Childhood Friends:
    • With Shota Aizawa. They've known each other since high school at the latest and are still very close friends who enjoy working together. They also knew Nemuri Kayama while at U.A., although she was one year ahead of them.
  • Combat Commentator: Provides running commentary on the events of the U.A. Sports Festival, including the one-on-one matchups that happen in the final stage.
  • Cool Car: Mic drives a 1966 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350, perhaps one of the flashiest examples of classic American muscle cars anybody could own.
  • Cool Shades: Wears these as part of his hero attire, but not while in plainclothes.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: He's usually depicted as an obnoxious moron with an unavoidably loud voice. At the same time though, his Quirk is nothing to sneer at, as shown when he uses his Quirk to blow out the villains' eardrums and a good chunk of the stadium during one of their attacks.
  • Dumbass DJ: He can be obnoxiously loud at times. Aizawa definitely thinks so, anyways.
  • Good Is Not Soft:
    • Recovery Girl isn't a fan of his involvement in the final exams, because he's one of the reasons why her services are needed most after the exams conclude. He screamed until he made Jiro's ears bleed.
    • He's pretty quick to suggest that they beat up the reporters who trespassed onto U.A. property. Aizawa tells him to stand down and just wait for the police to arrive.
  • Hair-Contrast Duo: Upbeat, energetic, and outgoing blond Present Mic to his old friend, the lazy, cynical, and slovenly black-haired Aizawa.
  • Hell-Bent for Leather: Almost his entire hero costume consists of black leather, including his jacket, gloves, pants, belts, and boots. He even seems to favor a red leather jacket during his time off, too.
  • Incoming Ham: And how! On top of his official job as a loudmouthed DJ and radio host, Yamada cannot enter a scene without bringing an entire wheelbarrow of Hot-Blooded ham with him.
  • Large-Ham Announcer: Of the entrance exams and the U.A. Sports Festival.
  • No Indoor Voice: His Quirk is all about being loudmouthed, and he's a career DJ who thrives on being loud and lively. Except it doesn't translate well to the teaching atmosphere when he's irreverently loud for the occasion.
  • Personality Powers: Mic's Quirk makes him fittingly the Life of the Party.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: His Quirk can do an insane amount of damage, both bodily and structurally, if it's not carefully controlled, as demonstrated several times when his lower-level yells cause extreme physical discomfort and burst eardrums while also flattening trees, shattering glass, and even fracturing wood and solid concrete.
  • Pop-Cultured Badass: Comes naturally with his schtick as a famous radio DJ and combat commentator for one of the largest tournaments on the planet.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The hot-blooded red to Aizawa's cool-headed blue.
  • Secret-Keeper: Learns about Aliens and Izuku's Quirkless in chapter 79.
  • Super-Scream: He can amplify the loudness of his own voice. When he was born, his cries ruptured the eardrums of his parents and the doctors. He also has a directional speaker mounted on his neck to control where his sound wave attacks go.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: Bugs turn out to be a major weakness for him as he can't blow them away with his Quirk because sound can't travel underground, allowing burrowing bugs to sneak up on him.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: He's deathly afraid of bugs. This is exploited by Jiro and Koda when they are pitted against him during their final exam.
  • Workaholic: He's a pro hero, English teacher at U.A., and major radio show host.

    Thirteen
A rescue hero who instructs students on how to respond to varying forms of disasters.

    Cementoss

Ken Ishiyama — Cementoss

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cementos.png
Species: Human
Quirk: Cement
A Pro Hero with the power to fully control any cement he touches; who in appearance resembles a humanoid block of cement looks like a humanoid block of cement. He is also a member of U.A's faculty who works as a Modern Literature teacher.
  • Ambiguously Human: He looks like a centient slab of cement.
  • Badass Teacher: He's the Modern Literature teacher.
  • Barrier Warrior: A more blunt example than most, one of the most common uses of his Quirk is to raise barriers from cement.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Gives an absolutely one-sided one to Satou and Kirishima during the Final Exams Arc.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: Anything with concrete he can control.
  • Home Field Advantage: Very powerful in urban settings thanks to the abundance of concrete.
  • Irony: Despite his blocky appearance, he seems to like round things.
  • Logical Weakness: He doesn't fare well in areas that have no concrete for him to manipulate.
  • Mundane Utility: He uses his cement powers to provide the ring for the Sports Festival.
  • Secret-Keeper: Learns about Aliens and Izuku's Quirkless in chapter 79.
  • The Knights Who Say "Squee!": He's a hero who's a big fan of All Might.
  • Wake-Up Call Boss: Minor example. His sound defeat of Kirishima and Sato demonstrates that even if the teachers are going easy on the students, they're not playing to lose.

    Midnight

Nemuri Kayama — Midnight

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/midnight_anime_profile.png
R-Rated Hero
Species: Human
Quirk: Somnambulist
The Modern Hero Arts History teacher of U.A. and the R-rated Hero. She is a S&M-themed Pro Heroine with a very playful and flirtatious personality. Her Quirk is "Somnambulist", which allows her to release a sleep-inducing fragrance from her body, though it's more effective on men than women.
  • Action Girl: As a professional hero and a member of U.A.'s staff, Midnight is a very qualified hero whose entire job is to kick villain butt and protect the peace.
  • Anime Hair: While it isn't long hair, it's still very long and is styled akin to a conifer tree. She had shorter hair when she was young.
  • Badass Teacher: She teaches Modern Hero Art History, which entails aesthetic features of hero work, and can easily incapacitate enemies with her Quirk.
  • Berserk Button: She has two:
    • Being interrupted while she's talking.
    • Making fun of her age.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Aside her dominatrix and Double Entendre tendencies, she genuinely wants to help students and encourages their efforts in becoming heroes.
  • Chained by Fashion: Has two handcuffs on her wrists as part of her S&M motif.
  • Cool Teacher: Midnight tends to be very supportive of the students, as demonstrated with Class 1-A's naming assignments. She praises almost all the hero names, the exceptions being Ashido and Bakugo's.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: To go with her S&M theme, her Quirk being Knockout Gas is reminiscent of Chloroform.
  • Domino Mask: She wears a red one as part of her hero costume.
  • Dressed Like a Dominatrix: Despite being a heroine, she wears a black breastless leotard over a white bodysuit to contain her natural sleeping gas powers, along with thigh-high stockings and black knee boots. She also uses a whip as a weapon.
  • Duel Boss: The final exams are supposed to be two students against one teacher. However, Midnight knocks out Sero in three seconds flat, forcing Mineta to face her by himself.
  • Fangirl: Of her students, since they represent the pinnacle of youth. She gets excited watching them fight.
  • Good Bad Girl: She's always been very flirty and shameless woman who has zero qualms about her behavior, but is a good and honest woman at heart.
  • Hot-Blooded: She loves the passionate youth, readily agreeing to bend the rules of the U.A. Sports Festival when things are done out of passion, such as letting Ojiro and Shoda drop out of the combat portion when they feel their pride won't let them compete without properly earning the spots or letting Iida use Mei's inventions. Additionally, she fangirls over the manly Defeat Means Friendship that happened during Kirishima and Tetsutetsu's fight and gets pumped up whenever it seems that a fight is about to reach its peak.
  • Hot for Student: A few jokes are made about her interest in youth being actually an interest in her students.
  • Hot Teacher: The R-Rated Hero has earned her name and reputation as a sexy heroine and is a teacher at U.A.
  • Knockout Gas: Her Quirk. It releases this from her skin, which is why so much of it is covered.
  • Ms. Fanservice:
  • Required Secondary Powers: She's immune to her own sleep-inducing mist.
  • Sadist: Watching someone runs away in terror gets her heart throbbing.
  • Sadist Teacher: Zigzagged. While she does have sadistic tendencies, she genuinely wants to help students and guide them towards their goals.
  • Secret-Keeper: Learns about Aliens and Izuku's Quirkless in chapter 79.
  • Shameless Fanservice Girl: She publicly advertises herself as "R-rated":
    • She has no problem wearing BDSM gear during televised events or in class. In fact, her first hero costume was so revealing that a law was passed in response, requiring hero costumes to cover a certain amount of skin.
  • Statuesque Stunner: Even without the heels, she's still 175 cm tall.
  • Stripperiffic: Her hero costume invokes this. In order to use her Quirk, she has to have her skin exposed. This means that exposing as much skin as possible is necessary for her to be effective. Her original hero costume from when she was first starting out, fittingly called "Birthday Suit Style", was an actual example, so much so that it provoked actual legislation concerning skimpy hero costumes.
  • Tempting Fate: As mentioned under Exact Words, when she confidently predicted that people would become more accepting of risqué hero costumes, the opposite ended up happening.
  • Villain Ball: During the Final Exams Arc, Midnight plays the "villain role" for Sero and Mineta. Had she stayed at the escape gate, she could've run down the clock, which would have caused them to fail their final exam. However, her sadistic nature led to her pursuing Mineta, only to get pinned down by his Quirk far away from the gate. To her credit though, she was going easy on them and even lampshadeds this, making it justified why she wouldn't be so willing to knock Mineta out.
  • Whip of Dominance: As expected of an S&M-themed heroine, she has a whip.

    Snipe

Snipe

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/snipe_anime.png
Species: Human
Quirk: Homing
A sharpshooting hero, who also works as a teacher for U.A.. He possesses the Quirk "Homing", which allows him to control the trajectory of his bullets at a range of up to 600 meters.
  • Accidental Pervert: To his credit, he frantically tries to apologize for it as soon as he realizes what happened.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Announces the presence of the arriving pro heroes to the invading villains of the training grounds by hitting a good number of them with his aiming skills. He even nearly severely wounds Shigaraki before Black Mist warps him out of there.
  • Brought to You by the Letter "S": His hat has a big "S" on it, referring to his name.
  • Cool Mask: Wears a stylish gas mask as part of his costume.
  • Good Is Not Soft: He's a genuine hero, but his weapon and powers revolve around shooting people. This is downplayed, however, as he is very good at aiming to incapacitate, not kill.
  • The Gunslinger: His weapon is a gun, fitting his cowboy theme.
  • Hand Cannon: Wields an oversized, double-cylindered pistol.
  • Homing Projectile: His Quirk, aptly called "Homing", lets him control the trajectories of his bullets to better hit their targets.
  • Improbable Aiming Skills: Justified by his Quirk, Homing, which allows him to alter the trajectory of his bullets, but he is still doing so while they're nothing more than a spec in his field of vision or while they're behind obstacles in such a way that he barely has any sight on his targets at all.
  • The Mentor: After he sees how talented Izuku is with his use of firearms, he begins to give Izuku some private lessons.
  • Secret-Keeper: Learns about Aliens and Izuku's Quirkless in chapter 79.
  • Shout-Out: A cowboy-themed sharpshooter with the power to control the trajectory of his bullets, similar to Hol Horse from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.
  • Superhero Packing Heat: As expected of a hero sharpshooter. Unlike most examples, however, he seems to near exclusively aim for incapacitating, nonlethal shots.
  • Talking Is a Free Action: Averts this when he shoots Shigaraki mid-monologue. If Kurogiri hadn't been there to bail him out, Shigaraki would have been left helpless and captured.
  • Thanks for the Mammary: Accidentally touches Hagakure's breasts with his elbow after he's beaten in the end of the final exam.
  • Too Many Belts: Wears at least three or four of them under his poncho. However, each one serves a purpose, securing his holsters and body armor in place.

    Ectoplasm

Ectoplasm

Species: Human
Quirk: Clones
A hero with a ghostly theme and U.A.'s Mathematics teacher. His Quirk, "Clones", allows him to create copies of himself out of ectoplasm coming out of his mouth.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Prior to the series, he lost his legs to a villain, and now wears prosthetics.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: He can create a huge copy of himself.
  • Badass Longcoat: He wears a heavy trenchcoat in costume and lets the collar stick up like the mantle of a cape. This is not to be confused with a Coat Cape where someone drapes their coat on their shoulders, because Ectoplasm wears his over his entire body.
  • Badass Teacher: Evidently, he's a math teacher.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Very creepy-looking (and with an even creepier voice), but he's a hero and a teacher.
  • Doppelgänger Attack: How he uses the copies he makes — multiple copies can attack the enemy at once, but they only take a hit or two to take down.
  • Extremity Extremist: Exclusively uses his legs during combat, leaving his arms tucked underneath his trenchcoat.
  • Handicapped Badass: He lost his legs in a past battle against a villain, and now uses two prostheses: a normal one for everyday civilian life and a lightweight one for heroism.
  • Hidden Depths: He apparently really likes karaoke.
  • Mystical High Collar: The lapels of his coat are very flared and upturned, and his powers stem from what is deemed ectoplasm, which is usually seen as the supernatural slime of ghosts.
  • Nightmare Face: He looks scary even without his mask. That Slasher Smile isn't part of his hero costume, it's just what his mouth looks like normally.
  • Secret-Keeper: Learns about Aliens and Izuku's Quirkless in chapter 79.
  • Self-Duplication: His Quirk. He's limited to creating around 30 (36 after a heartfelt karaoke session) clones of himself at once, but he can move and dissolve these clones at will. He can also create a big copy, but at the expense of not being able to create more clones while the big one is active.
  • Stealth Pun: Ectoplasm teaches math. He's the multiplying teacher.
  • Soul Power: Can manipulate ectoplasm to form clones of himself.
  • Training Dummy: His clones make great punching bags for students trying to get a better handle on their Quirks.
  • Whole Costume Reference:

Youthful Heroine
Species: Human
Quirk: Heal
The school's resident nurse. Her Quirk, "Heal", speeds up the recovery of injuries of her patients.
  • Good Is Not Soft: While Recovery Girl is a kindhearted person, if someone engages in Self-Harm through abuse of their Quirk, she'll eventually refuse to treat them unless it means they'll die.
  • Healing Hands: Played with, as her power allows her to magnify someone's own regenerative process.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Does not know about aliens.
  • The Medic: Her job as the school nurse.
  • Secret Secret-Keeper: She knows about One For All. Learns about Aliens and Izuku's Quirkless in chapter 79.
  • Shipper on Deck: She's one of the first to notice how attached Midoriya and Uraraka are.
