    In General
  • Animal-Themed Superbeing: The Animal Alias type. Their hero names and transformed outfits are each based on a specific animal, while their abilities usually have more to do with the symbolic meaning of the animal rather than the animal's actual abilities.
  • By the Power of Grayskull!!: Each of them has a special transformation phrase they use to turn into a superhero. Some have a different transformation phrase to turn into a supervillain. So far, they are:
    • For Anatis: "Tikki, Spots On!!"
    • For Lady Noire: "Plagg, Claws, Out!!"
    • For Aspik: "Sass, Scales Slither!!"
    • For Ryūko: "Longg, Bring the Storm!!"
    • For Culpeo: "Trixx, Let's Pounce!!"
    • For Queen Bee and Abeille: "Pollen, Buzz On!!"
    • For Leatherback: "Wayzz, Shell On!!"
    • For Sabertooth: "Roaar, Leap Out!!"
    • For Apollo: "Orikko, Sunrise!!"
    • For Bunnyx: "Fluff, C Lockwise!!"
    • For Hawk Moth: "Nooroo, Dark Wings Rise!!"
    • For Mayura: "Duusu, Spread My Feathers!!”
    • For Falcon: "Liiri, Wings of Liberty!!"
  • Color Motifs: All of the heroes have colors in both civilian and hero forms that represent their personalities.
    • Luka:
      • Turquoise — Main color scheme in his civilian attire and the color can represent wisdom, serenity, clarity, and reliability.
      • Red and black — Main color scheme as Anatis, to match his animal-themed Miraculous. Both colors can represent power and leadership.
    • Marinette:
      • Pink — Main color scheme in her civilian attire and the color can represent femininity and love.
      • Black — Main color scheme as Lady Noire and the color can represent power and beauty.
    • Juleka:
      • Purple — Main color scheme in civilian form. The color can mean sensitivity, mystery, and spirituality.
      • Orange — Main color as Culpeo, which can represent warmth, joy, and emotional strength.
    • Rose:
      • Pink — Main color scheme as a civilian. Can represent compassion, playfulness, and love.
      • Yellow — Main color scheme as Abeille. It can represent happiness, positive energy, and optimism.
    • Ivan:
      • Black — Main color scheme as a civilian. For him can represent intimidation, but also protection, security, and power.
      • Green — Main color scheme as Leatherback. Can represent protection, generosity, and hope.
    • Adrien:
      • White — Main color scheme as a civilian. For him can represent innocence and hope, but also his isolation and distance.
      • Green — Main color scheme as Aspik. It’s also his eyes, which become more pronounced as a hero. Can represent growth, calm, and harmony.
    • Kagami:
      • White — First main color scheme as a civilian. For her can represent simplicity and perfection.
      • Red — Main color scheme as Ryūko. Can represent passion, strength, confidence, and desire.
      • Black — Secondary color as both civilian and hero. For her, can represent prestige, elegance, and authority.
    • Nino:
      • Dark Blue — Main color scheme as a civilian. It can represent his loyalty as a friend to Adrien as well as his desire to avoid confrontation when he can.
      • Purple — Main color scheme as Sabertooth. With the Miraculous having the power of invisibility, it could represent mystery and insightfulness.
    • Max:
      • Green — His main color scheme as a civilian. It can represent ambition, as Max is one of the smartest students in his class, or even jealousy as he has a slightly sexist mindset, especially regarding video games.
      • Orange — His main color scheme as Apollo. Can represent open-mindedness, as even though Max is a science-based learner, he's not opposed to considering magic and the supernatural to explain things. Max is also a bit of a perfectionist in regards to his technology, like Markov, and orange to represent prestige and high quality.
  • Glamour: The New York Special confirms that the Miraculous holders are covered by a "quantum masking" field that prevents people from recognizing them in costume. However, it's not invincible; it has no effect on inorganic beings like Uncanny Valley.
  • Instant Expert: Part of the magic of the Miraculous is that wielders instinctively understand the heightened grace it gives them. New heroine Culpeo is surprised when Anatis jumps onto a rooftop and calls her to follow him - and even more surprised when she finds she can. (However, it takes a while before any wielder gets used to their weapon.)
  • Logical Weakness: Each of the heroes have to use a verbal command to utilize their superpowers. Naturally, if their voice were somehow removed or impaired they wouldn't be able to summon their powers. Furthermore, if they didn't have their voices pre-transformation they wouldn't be able to transform at all.
    • It's implied that this weakness is lifted a little when the wielders reach a certain age, use their Miraculous for a certain amount of time, or are adults.
  • Meaningful Name: Each of the heroes and villains choose a name that relates to the animal of their Miraculous. Some more on the nose than others.
    • Anatis: Anatis shares his name with a subspecies of the Ladybug. His costume even includes faint yellow circles around the black spots.
    • Lady Noire: Noire means "black" in French.
    • Culpeo: A species of South American fox.
    • Queen Bee: Fairly obvious, considering the hive won't survive without a queen.
    • Abeille: Means "honeybee" in French.
    • Leatherback: The name of an endangered sea turtle species.
    • Aspik: Means "asp" in French, which is a poisonous species of snake.
    • Ryūko: Has many different translations in Japanese, but one translation is "Child of the Dragon."
    • Hawk Moth: The name of a kind of moth, also known as a sphinx moth or hummingbird moth.
    • Bunnyx: A mix between Alix and bunny.
    • Mayura: The Sanskrit word for peacock, though this is the masculine term. "Mayuri" is the feminine term.
    • Sabertooth: The name of an extinct cat species, its full name being 'Sabertooth Tiger'.
    • Apollo: The Greek god of the sun, archery, music, medicine, etc. The Miraculous's weapon is a bow, and Apollo was a master archer.
  • Nigh-Invulnerability: Miraculous holders are essentially invulnerable. They can resist attacks that would severely injure or even kill a normal human. However, there are a few caveats to their invulnerability. Any injuries sustained before transformation will persist afterward. Holders still require air to breathe. Miraculous holders can also be pushed to the point of exhaustion. Some of these vulnerabilities are circumvented by the Miraculous potions. They appear to revolve around allowing their users to endure much harsher environmental conditions; underwater, freezing temperatures, the vacuum of space...
  • Psychoactive Powers: It's possible that Miraculous powers can go haywire if put under extreme emotional stress.
  • Ragtag Bunch of Misfits: So far the people that make up the Miraculous Heroes are an empathetic guitarist, a budding fashion designer, a goth, a blond model, a headstrong fencer, a Genki Girl, a gentle giant drummer, a DJ, a robotic nerd, a skater girl, and a 186-year-old masseur.
  • Superpowered Evil Side: Queen Wasp showed that even Miraculous holders aren’t immune to Akumatization. If Hawk Moth akumatizes them when they have their Miraculous active, they will be granted a powered-up version of their main power they can use at will without dropping their transformation, which is demonstrated by Queen Wasp's wasp swarm that can paralyze multiple targets.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Several of the Miraculous holders haven't had Miraculous yet in canon.
  • Transformation Trinket: All of the Heroes and Villains use a piece of jewelry or accessory to transform.
    • Anatis: Earrings
    • Lady Noire: Ring
    • Culpeo: Necklace
    • Abeille: Haircomb
    • Leatherback: Bracelet
    • Hawk Moth: Brooch
    • Mayura: Brooch
    • Sabertooth: Panjas Bracelet
    • Aspik: Bangle
    • Ryūko: Choker
    • Bunnyx: Pocket Watch
    • Apollo: Thumb Ring

    Anatis

Luka Couffaine/Anatis/Holder of the Ladybug Miraculous

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screen_shot_2020_11_19_at_83132_pm.png
I want to make a promise to you right here and right now. No matter who wants to harm you, me and my partner Lady Noir will keep you safe!
The protagonist of the fic. An aspiring musician who lives with his sister and mother on their houseboat on the Seine. He's kind, laid-back, and wise beyond his years. Luka is revealed to be a natural mage, specializing in Empathy and is the latest reincarnation of the mage who created the miraculous.

As Anatis, he's much more confident and assured. He's a clever and skilled fighter and has a strong sense of justice. He also has low tolerance for lies and deception, and if someone is foolish enough to target his family or close friends... they best beg for mercy.

  • Abusive Parents: It's revealed in Sandboy that Luka stepfather was very abusive towards him, seeing as him returning to the houseboat is Luka's worst nightmare. It's bad enough that even after he barricades his door, Luka has a panic attack in his room, unable to even call for help.
  • Adaptational Badass: While he did receive a Miraculous in canon, his status is heightened with the Ladybug Miraculous. It's also proven that as a civilian he takes karate, wrestling, and other sports in his free time.
  • Amazon Chaser: Downplayed. Luka fell for Marinette at first sight.
  • Ascended Extra: While in canon, he's only appeared for about 4-5 episodes, Luka is given much more time and development in this fic.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Considering the nature of the Lucky Charm power, whoever wields the Ladybug Miraculous has to be creative enough to know how to use the object provided. But even without it, Luka has proven to be a very intelligent and even strategic fighter.
  • Badass Back: When Anatis is giving his interview on the Ladyblog after Captain Hardrock, he doesn't so much as glance over his shoulder to catch the akuma that tries to come for him.
  • Badass Normal: Even when not in his hero form, Luka is able to hold his own in a fight, both physically and through his wit. It's revealed that he takes karate, MMA, and free running occasionally.
  • Band of Relatives: He and his sister Juleka are the guitarists in the band Kitty Section.
  • Berserk Button: After Anarka's akumatization, this sets Luka off after the fight, since Hawk Moth targetted a member of his family, specifically his mom. Later that night, during a Ladyblog interview, Anatis is nearly akumatized as his anger has yet to diminish. He's quick enough to capture it before he's affected, but this is a clear testament of his fury. Interesting to note that this fury only surfaced when his mom was akumatized. He was more scared and ashamed of himself (despite it not being his fault) than angry when Juleka was akumatized.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: He's pretty chill for the most part, that is until someone threatens his family or Marinette.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Luka is very protective of his sister, showing anger towards Chloé when she locked Juleka in the bathroom to miss the class photo.
  • Boring, but Practical: While Anatis is quite creative when using the Lucky Charm, he tends to prefer a more straightforward and direct approach compared to crazy, over-the-top plans that Ladybug creates in canon.
  • Born Lucky: Downplayed. Luka's natural luck is amplified in this, helping him out in sticky situations. It's first shown in the few chapters and is what brought him to Master Fu in the first place. It's revealed that Luka's luck is due to his connection to Tikki's magic.
  • Brutal Honesty: Anatis is not afraid to point out the decisions people made and why they led to the situation they are in now.
  • Character Development: Due to Luka being a main protagonist, the author has given his character more depth compared to his canon counterpart.
  • Clark Kenting: Not as overt as Lady Noire's, given his transformation changes his hair dye... but apart from that, he only has a Domino Mask.
  • Commonality Connection: He and Marinette bond over being fans of Jagged Stone.
  • Covered in Scars: While Luka has no physical scars (as far as we know) from his stepfather's abuse, his encounter with Nightmare!stepfather made it clear that he has many psychological scars. It has yet to be seen if this will pose a problem in future chapters.
  • Crazy Survivalist: After the events of Heroes' Day, not only does he and Lady Noire come up with a system to rank akumas with, but he also plans to train the other temporary heroes privately, learn and study the Miraculous more thoroughly with Master Fū, and even comes up with several contingency plans in the off chance that Lady Noire, any of the temporary heroes, and even he himself turn to evil.
  • Disappointed in You: Anatis blatantly admits this in Oblivio after Alya posts the photo of a brainwashed Anatis and Lady Noire kissing, after explicitly asking her not to post it.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Regardless of being in the right and justified, he publicly humiliated Lila by calling her out on her lies in front of Adrien, resulting in Lila becoming akumatized. He also finally hammers into Adrien's head how harmful lies, even small 'harmless' ones can be.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: Lady Noire nicknames him "Annie", which greatly flusters him.
  • The Empath: While not necessarily a superpower, Luka both in this story and canon can hear the inner songs within people and play them out with his guitar. He's able to express himself easily this way as well.
    • Moments before the Heroes' Day attack, he felt that the atmosphere in the air had changed drastically, picking up on the growing panic and negative emotions resulting from Volpina's illusion.
    • This is taken a step further in the New York Special when he senses the inactive Falcon Miraculous in the museum, as well as visions of its past holder, though he didn't know that's what it was at the time.
  • Emo Teen: Subverted. He has the look of one but is fairly laid-back and positive.
  • Family Theme Naming: Like his mother and sister, his name ends in "-ka".
  • Fatal Flaw: His familial anger can be seen as one. If someone he loves is threatened he tends to lose focus and become vulnerable to akumas. Something he specifically points out in his contingency plan video.
  • Forbidden Love: Anatis has stated to Lady Noire that even if he has feelings for her, that he would never date her, because he wants to love the real her not the hero with the mask, and he wants Lady Noire to treat him the same way. This is also touched on in Weredad when Anatis rejects Marinette in order to protect both her and his secret identity, which causes Tom becoming Weredad
  • Good is Not Nice: Mostly downplayed, as overall, as both Luka and Anatis, he's a pretty friendly person. However, if you threaten his loved ones, ignore warnings, or do something stupid in general, he is not afraid to point it out aggressively and bluntly to the offending party. While his lectures have left some of his 'victims' in tears, his intentions towards this action are rarely malicious. See 'Reason You Suck' section for further details.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: After Aspik and Ryūko returned their Miraculous, Anatis revealed to Lady Noire that he felt uncertain about being a hero, and because the other heroes wouldn't work with, thought he was a failure.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Luka is aware of Marinette's affection towards Adrien. He himself has strong feelings for Marinette but hasn't informed her so that it doesn't affect their friendship. And if Adrien is the one she ultimately picks, he'll be happy for her. Again, mentioned in Weredad.
  • Imagine Spot: When he puts effort into impressing Marinette, his mind will sometimes wander to worst-case scenarios.
  • Improbable Weapon User: While Anatis's weapon is indeed a Killer Yoyo, there is a logical reason behind this. Yo-yo's were a weapon made for hunting invented in China sometime during the year 500 B.C., and the Mage invented the Miraculous thousands of years ago in Tibet. Not only is his main weapon a yo-yo, but the entire nature of his "Lucky Charm" is that it grants him a random and seemingly useless item that would normally serve no purpose in combat, but is actually exactly what he needs to defeat the villain of the day.
  • Invincible Hero: Anatis wins every battle, though there have been some close calls.
  • Killer Yoyo: Anatis's main weapon.
  • The Leader: Of the duo, Luka is usually the one making the decisions to down the akuma and he covers all four types. He uses his Awesomeness by Analysis skills to defeat the akumatized villain (Mastermind), is usually the more mature of the two (Levelheaded), speaks out against Hawk Moth and his plans (Headstrong), and is quite popular as a superhero (Charismatic). Though he does listen to Lady Noire's suggestions and may implement one if he believes its effective enough.
  • Like Father, Like Son: After discovering that his real father is Jagged Stone Luka understands why he's so different from the man he thought was his father. It also explains his great talent for music.
  • Luke, I Am Your Father: By proxy. Luka's reaction to learning Jagged Stone is his dad leaves him with a lot of mixed feelings, ranging from relief to anger. He's not angry with his mom for keeping it secret, but he lived most of his life believing he was related to his abusive stepfather. Learning the truth does little to suppress his hurt in that moment.
  • Mellow Fellow: Luka is quite relaxed and easygoing.
  • The Most Wanted: After suffering a seizure when Hawk Moth tried to akumatize him, he became a prime target for the villain, who was obsessed to why such a thing happened.
  • Nature vs. Nurture: Luka seems to be a unique case of this where both elements have played a role in his character. Due to Luka's upbringing with an abusive stepfather, and having to face school bullies in the past, it's quite remarkable that he's grown into the young man he is currently, which would imply that his gentle and calm attitude and strong heroism is in his Nature. However, due to this abuse, he can still be shy and reluctant to discuss his problems, even with friends. Thanks to his mother's loud and expressive personality, though, he's learned to stand up for what he believes is right. Thanks to the abuse from his stepfather, and his mother's unique way of raising him, he's become determined to stop the same pain befalling other people in any form, which would imply his heroism is a product of Nurture. Overall, both Nature and Nurture played roles in making Luka the person he is now, as both Luka and Anatis.
  • Neutral No Longer: While he had always been against Hawk Moth, Anatis makes it clear after "Captain Hardrock" that he is no longer playing games with the villain and promises to not rest until he takes the villain down.
  • Nice Guy: Luka is a polite and genial individual.
  • Not a Game: Takes his duties as Anatis very seriously, and strictly asks for the akumas to be left to the heroes unless absolutely necessary.
  • Not So Above It All: Despite his strict attempts to stay the fearless, proud hero his anger can sometimes still get the better of him especially if the reason for akumatization is stupid or was completely avoidable.
  • Only I Can Kill Him: Justified. Anatis is the only hero capable of purifying an akuma.
  • Opposites Attract: Downplayed. While Luka and Marinette are both fans of Jagged Stone and artistic types (Marinette with costume designs, Luka with music) Marinette is very anxious and klutzy, while Luka is very mellow and composed.
  • Power Dyes Your Hair: As Anatis, the dyed parts in his hair go from teal blue to crimson red.
  • The Power of Creation: One of his powers, As Anatis, Luka can use the power 'Lucky Charm' to create an item to defeat the akuma. However, the item he gets is completely random and he has to work out how to use it.
  • Properly Paranoid: When Volpina first appears, he's highly suspicious that it's Lila akumatized, due to hearing her conversation with Adrien earlier. He also points out to Lady Noire that if Hawk Moth could really teleport, why wouldn't he use that ability to steal their Miraculous. The fact that he hasn't proves that this isn't one of his powers.
  • The Quiet One: Not as quiet as his sister Juleka, but he prefers to speak with music than his voice.
  • Really Royalty Reveal: While he isn't the son of a king, or a prince himself, it is revealed that Jagged Stone is his real father, the "King of Rock n' Roll" in this universe.
  • "Reason You Suck" Speech: Anatis, in both hero and civilian form, has a habit of giving these speeches a lot:
    • In Volpina, Luka is very irritated when Lila blatantly lies to Adrien about Marinette bullying her, and about being the owner of the Fox Miraculous. He chews her out as Anatis shortly after.
Anatis: In fact, now that I'm here, why don't I set the record straight? You are not a hero! That is not a Miraculous or your grandmother's! Marinette never tried to steal it or threaten you! In fact, I know for a fact that you were the one who threatened her and caused her to become Princess Justice! Oh and that's not the only akuma you've caused, is it Lie-la?! Or did you think I forget about Queen of Mean!? News flash! I didn't and Miss Bourgeois told me all about how you claimed she had told you about Marinette 'stealing' your necklace! Oh and another thing! I have never saved your life! I came up with the name Anatis by myself! I have never been called Mister Bug and I've never asked you on a date but most importantly, Miss Rossi! I am not your friend and neither is Lady Noir so why don't you do us all a massive favor and shut the hell up?! You're not a hero and you never will be! You're just a liar!
    • In Despair Bear Luka calls Principal Damocles out after Chloé attempts to blame Marinette for a crime without proof.
Damocles: I understand that you were defending your friend but the way you talked to me was unacceptable-
Luka: The way you accused Marinette was unacceptable.
    • Gives Chloé a mini-one shortly after.
Luka: You're a terrible person, Chloé...you tried to frame Marinette.
Chloé: They all seem to enjoy getting dirty making cookies. How is it any different than getting dirty cleaning floors? Besides, this wouldn't have happened if Marinette just said sorry.
Luka: Why should she apologize for something you did?! This is why I said you're a terrible person.
    • In the same episode Luka returns as Anatis to give Damocles a serious lecture about his behavior.
Anatis: Your job as a teacher is to teach and inspire but instead you abuse your power and let bullies get away with anything while their victims are blamed. Not only did you accuse a student and threat to punish them for something they didn't do but you went on to punish the whole school but took out a student after they threatened to tell their parent. That is not professional. I am not finished and you will listen to me. You are creating the perfect breeding ground for akumas and are damaging children for life! You support bullies and let them get away with anything. Not only are you teaching them that bullying other people is ok but you are then blaming their victims for it! This is extremely unhealthy and generates negative feelings, which Hawkmoth then takes advantage of! Do you understand?
Damocles: Now, Anatis, I don't think it's that bad.
Anatis: Let me break this down in a way you can understand. Princess Justice, Queen of Mean aka Lady Copycat, the Bubbler, Stormy Weather, Lady Wifi, Time Breaker, Evillustrator, Vanisher, Volpina, Dark Cupid, Horrificator, Gamer, Reflekta, Princess fragrance, Stoneheart, Destroyer, The Dark Owl, and Robostus!! That is everyone in this school who has been akumatized. That's sixteen students, one teacher aka you, and one robot that have been akumatized and eleven of those have all been caused by Chloé!! Those are the ones she's caused in the school! And today Princess Justice could have returned!! Did you forget what happened last time?! She almost won!!
    • Expresses blatant disappointment in Mme. Bustier for how she handles her class, especially bullies.
Anatis: How dare us?! No! How dare you! Just like Mr Damocles, you are creating an environment for akumas and you're too blind to see it! Was that akuma even meant for you originally?! Did it ever occur to you that it was for Marinette?! Or how hurt your students are?! I have seen Chloé in action and my contacts in school tell me everything! She is nothing more then a spoil brat who acts the way she does because she can get away with it but you could have easily have nipped it in the bud! You could have corrected her behavior and act like an actual teacher instead of victim blaming and forcing your job onto your students! It is not down to Marinette or her classmates to set an example! It's down to you! You're the teacher and the adult! You're suppose to guide and help them grow as people but instead you force your responsibilities onto your students and allow bullies to get away with anything! Did you want a repeat of Princess Justice?! Did you not notice how almost everyone in your class has been akumatized because of Chloé?! Ivan, Mylene, Kim, Alya, Sabrina, Juleka, Rose, Nathaniel... need I go on?!
    • Audrey Bourgeois gets a huge dose of this in Queen Wasp.
Anatis: Shut up!! Just shut up!!! Can't you see she's upset and you're hurting her even more?! So just do us all a favor and shut up!!
Audrey: How dare you speak to me like that! You're fired!!
Anatis: Too bad for you that I don't work for you. And thank kwamis, I don't! You're a self-absorbed woman who thinks she's the best thing since sliced bread. Well, new flash, oh Queen of Fashion! You're nothing more then a jumped-up, selfish cow who has ridiculous expectations that are impossible to achieve! Yes, Chloé has made mistakes but is any wonder why she acts the way she does when she has you and her father as role models?!
      Lady Noire: Burn!
    • Anatis gives one to Knightowl in the New York Special.
Anatis: Firstly, you're super rude, do you know that?! And secondly, your protege tried their damn best and deserves a better mentor then you! And finally, don't you dare blame us for something that a villain did!!
      Knightowl: Why you!?! You liste-
Anatis: No, you listen! Me and my partner are not to blame for a villain's actions and neither is your protege! In fact, they tried their damn hardest and probably didn't have a way to contact you but instead of giving them the benefit of the doubt and actually listening to what they have to say, you just assume that their actions were based on childish decisions without even knowing the full facts and to add insult to injury, you actually have the nerve to try and order me about!
    • Chat Malice gives one to Alya in Reflekdoll
Chat Malice: Miss Cesaire, you don't get to decide that or push people out of the picture just because they don't work with your idea. Your actions-
Alya: I was just trying to-
Chat Malice: I am not done talking! And I don't care what you were trying to do! I don't care if you claim to be a good friend and were trying to make your friends happy!
Alya: I am a good friend!
Chat Malice: No! You're not!In fact, you're an awful friend and quite frankly an awful person! What kind of 'friend' pushes someone out and tells them a bunch of lies?! What kind of person posts something that they know the subjects don't want posted?! You pressure your friend to confess her feelings, not caring if she actually wants to and then call her a coward for freaking out and not been able to! You are nothing more then a two faced gossip who has a warped sense of justice and is willing to do anything for the 'views' even if that means posting lies or making up stories! Not to mention you're a hypocrite! Yes, I know full well that you bitch about certain people behind their backs! You don't respect anyone including me or Lady Noir! I had to shout at you, just to get you to back off my identity! And this isn't the first akuma you've caused or did you hope that I would forget about Reverser and Puppeteer?!
      Alya:They weren't my fault...
Chat Malice: Weren't your fault?! For Kwami's sake, Alya, what is wrong with you?! You tore up Mr Anciel's story and called him a liar and a fake! And you refused to listen to your friend then abandoned the girl she was looking after! Anything could have happened so how do you not see what you've done?!
Alya: All I've done is try and help people! The world deserves to know who you are and
Chat Malice: You don't get to decide that! But I can see I won't get through to you so you know what? I give up! I am done trying to show you the error of your ways! You won't listen to me because you're too bullheaded to even realize that you are a problem! I mean what kind of person on purpose makes someone think that their friend doesn't care about them in a city that has a super-villain who feeds of negative emotion and turns people in villains?! And it's not like this is something that is new! Oh, no, I know you didn't believe your friend when she was framed, I know you didn't bother sticking up for your friends when they were been bullied and on top of all of this, you still think that a liar is a good person! A liar who has possibly willing taken an akuma and who has made people's life a living hell but hey, she can't be that bad because she claims to know me and Lady Noir. Well, here's a scope for you, Miss Tabloid! I don't know her and never have! Oh and while I'm here, I love cats, I don't go round meeting random civilians, I came up with the name Anatis, I'm not dating Lady Noir, if I'm gonna tell anyone my identity, it certainly won't be to you and my best friend is Lady Noir, not Miss Rossi or Miss Bourgeois! Speaking of her, you helped her almost become an akuma!
Alya: Chloe isn't a nice person!
Chat Malice: Well, she's doing a lot better then you are! Do you think I want to talk to you like this? Cause I don't! I don't want to have to shout anyone like this but you won't listen otherwise so I'm doing the same thing I did with Chloe. You need to take a good look at yourself and do something about your bad habits because you are creating akumas and hurting people who you should care about! You need to work on what’s right from what’s wrong and have a real good look at your life! Because if you don't, your future is going to be a dark and lonely one! Your friends will walk away from you and leave you! Do you understand what is at risk here?! Your blog, your friendships and your reputation! Everything! All of it is at risk because you keep making the wrong choices and people aren't always gonna give you a second chance! They won't even think you're worthy of one! You need to change before it's too late.
      * The Reliable One: Part of what draws Marinette to Luka is how dependable he is. As Marinette notes, he's always there for her and she can count on him for anything.
  • Reset Button: Invoked; it's actually one of his powers. He "presses" it after defeating a villain by using his powers to undo all the damage they cause.
  • The Rock Star: He likes playing guitar and is part of a rock band alongside his sister. He even has the strange ability to read people's emotions just by playing music on his guitar.
  • Sage Love Interest: Downplayed. He's rather spiritual, meditates, and has a "go with the flow" outlook on life that he uses to soothe Marinette's anxiety and help her feel more confident with herself.
  • Secret Secret-Keeper: He knows the identities of all of the auxiliary Miraculous holders—having been the one who gave them their Miraculouses in most cases—and freely acknowledges it as Anatis, but plays dumb about it to avoid revealing his own secret I.D. as a civilan.
  • Serenade Your Lover: Keeping in mind that it was Loveat First Sight for Luka, he's often shown trying to woo Marinette with music. It seems to slowly be working.
  • Ship Tease: Has several moments in civilian form with Marinette, and with Lady Noire as Anatis.
  • Spin to Deflect Stuff: Anatis does it by spinning his magic yoyo; however in this case it doesn't so much deflect than create an impenetrable shield that disintegrates what's thrown at it.
  • Spontaneous Weapon Creation: Anatis's Lucky Charm will provide him a seemingly random item that he must use to win the battle.
  • Stating the Simple Solution: In contrast to Marinette's Complexity Addiction, Luka will generally take simpler approaches, as himself or as Anatis.
  • Swapped Roles: In Reflekdoll, Luka gains the Black Cat Miraculous and becomes Chat Malice
  • That's What I Would Do: Gabriel temporarily renounced Nooroo so he could akumatize himself, knowing the Butterfly Miraculous cannot empower its own holder, to throw off suspicion that he is Hawk Moth. The plan only slightly fails when Luka theorizes the truth and name-drops this trope.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: His decision to run away from home is the indirect cause of Santa Claus being akumatized during the Christmas chapter, as it leads Lady Noire to assume the helpful Santa has kidnapped him.
  • Variable-Length Chain: His yo-yo can go from short enough to serve as a shield to long enough to string someone up from the rafters of a building.
  • Violently Protective Girlfriend: A male example. He was already angry at Lila, but seeing the girl threaten and blatantly lie about Marinette tipped Luka over the edge.

    Lady Noire

Marinette Dupain-Cheng/Lady Noire/Holder of the Black Cat Miraculous

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screen_shot_2020_11_19_at_112031_pm.png
We've got a better idea! You're gonna give us your miraculous!
A friend of Luka's sister, Juleka. She's an aspiring fashion designer who lives with her parents over a successful Parisian bakery. At school, Marinette is friendly, if self-effacing but has a knack for leadership, and is well-liked by her peers.

As Lady Noire, she's much more mischievous and focused. Though a talented heroine, she's still working out some ethical knots, like where lies the line between personal and superhero life.

  • Action Girl: She's more than capable of handling herself in a fight.
  • Adaptational Villainy: Unlike in canon, Hawk Moth succeeds in akumatizing Marinette into Princess Justice after Lila frames her. This paves the way for Luka to receive the Ladybug Miraculous and become Anatis.
  • Animal-Eared Headband: As Lady Noire, he wears two cat ear-shaped hairclips that sometimes move as though they were real cat ears.
  • Animal Eyes: When she transforms into Lady Noire, her pupils become vertically slit like a cat's. Her sclera (the whites of her eyes) also turn green, mimicking a cat's huge irises.
  • Bad Powers, Good People: She's a bad luck-themed heroine with the power to corrode things. This doesn't stop her from using it for good.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: While Marinette is very sweet and considerate, she can be scary when pushed.
  • Boring, but Practical: While her Cataclysm is most often used in creative ways to turn the battle, it's also very effective at breaking akumatized objects that can't be broken in other ways. It's a nice balance as she's constantly coming up with complicated plans.
  • Born Unlucky: Downplayed. Marinette's natural bad luck is amplified in the fic. It's the cause of her clumsiness, tardiness and general bad luck. Ironically enough, it helped lead her to Master Fu. Similar to Luka, Marinette's Bad Luck is due to her been tied to Plagg's Magic.
  • Braids of Action: As Lady Noire, she sports a floor-length braid.
  • Chef of Iron: A secret superhero who is noted to be an excellent baker.
  • Clark Kenting: She wears a mask, her hair grows longer, and her eyes turn green, and that's about it. And, like Superman, she has a close friend that desperately wants to know Anatis and Lady Noire's identity, but never connects the dots.
  • Classical Anti-Hero: Marinette struggles with her self-confidence, and it was even worse before she became a Miraculous holder.
  • Complexity Addiction: Marinette always comes up with the most complicated explanations and plans to accomplish simple tasks. It generally backfires on her when she isn't Lady Noire, and Anatis usually balances her zany plans out with his straightforward and Boring, but Practical methods.
  • Consummate Professional: As Lady Noire, while she'll banter with Anatis from time to time, she knows when to stay focused on the task at hand while in costume.
  • Crying Wolf: One reason nobody believes Marinette when she tells them that Lila is a bully is because Marinette is known to be irrationally jealous of her romantic rivals, of which Lila is one. Unfortunately, Marinette was telling the truth, and Lila is a hell of a lot more malicious than she is. This problem is mostly solved when Anatis clears her name in front of most of her classmates.
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: Marinette is shown to be very clumsy. As Lady Noire, though, she becomes much more competent, though accidents sometimes happen. She even jokes about it when she first gets her Miraculous, saying that Destruction is the perfect trait for her because of it.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: She wears dark clothing in her alter ego form, but is on Anatis's side. He also has a set of powers that would normally lend themselves towards being a villain, but fights for good.
  • Destructive Saviour: Since her miraculous is imbued with the power of destruction, she is capable of causing mass devastation. Unlike most examples, this is often weaponized against the villains they are fighting because Anatis's power of creation is capable of repairing whatever damage she causes.
  • Does Not Like Spam: When her grandmother came to celebrate her 14th birthday, she brought Marinette's childhood favorite candy, Dolo Befana. However, Marinette now hates the candy.
  • Dork Knight: Downplayed. She's a compassionate, genuinely nice Girly Bruiser, who likes fashion, and trumps people at video games left and right. And as Lady Noire, she stands for responsibility and justice alongside Anatis. Despite all that, she gets pretty flustered and even more clumsy than usual around her crushes, Adrien and Luka, alternating between Cannot Spit It Out and a hilarious case of Motor Mouth. Though due to being friends first with Luka before it became a crush, she's a bit more mellow around him.
  • Dual Wielding: Her staff can split in two if needed.
  • Eccentric Artist: She is either completely spaced out or completely fixated on one thing, to the exclusion of all else. There is no middle ground.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: Marinette feels deeply betrayed by Alya when she posts the kissing photo on the Ladyblog without her or Anatis's consent in Oblivio. Whether this will affect her friendship with Alya in her civilian is yet to be seen.
  • The Fashionista: Subverted. She is a budding fashion designer, and we see a few of her designs.
  • Fatal Flaw: Impulsiveness. Her tendency to do or say things on a whim has not only driven a wedge between her and her friends, but it has also led to a substantial number of akumatizations.
  • Flower Motifs: Pink flowers with black leaves can be seen on her civilian t-shirt and in a number of her designs.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Her default hairstyle.
  • Hair Color Dissonance: When she transforms into Lady Noire, her hair becomes darker.
  • Has a Type: Inverted. Most of the boys who develop feelings for Marinette are artists.
  • The Heart: Just about everyone in Marinette's class feels comfortable confiding in her and asking her for help. This comes into play Luka seeks comfort from her after Sandboy's attack.
  • Hero's Muse: Luka sees her as one, as her song inspires a lot of his music.
  • Imagine Spot: Her imagination tends to go to the extreme for either the best or the worst possible consequences, especially if it involves Adrien or Luka.
  • Innate Night Vision: She gains night vision when she transforms into Lady Noire. Which makes sense, as most cats have better night vision than day vision, and are known for being able to see in the dark comparatively well relative to humans.
  • Innocent Blue Eyes: Of the heroic and idealistic variety.
  • Instant Flight: Just Add Spinning!: Lady Noire's staff can work like that to keep her in the air for a few seconds or ensure a safe landing.
  • Late for School: More often than not.
  • Little Bit Beastly: As Lady Noire, her eyes are shaped to resemble a cat's.
  • Living Emotional Crutch: Occasionally, Lady Noire is this to Anatis. In moments where he's entering a Heroic BSoD, she encourages him to not give up. She's also there on akuma watch when his anger flares up.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Only at the beginning. She does not know Culpeo's identity, and met Master Fū yet. However, she shows her trust in Anatis to do the right thing. By the end of Sapotis, Anatis managed to convince Master Fū to bring Lady Noire into the loop. Despite being filled in on Miraculous knowledge, she still doesn't know Culpeo's or any other hero identities, and still has yet to meet other kwamis, besides Wayzz, personally.
  • Magnetic Hero: Either in her superhero or civilian identity, she is well-liked by nearly everyone.
  • Married to the Job: She was not the most punctual of people even before she got her Miraculous, but akuma-fighting and patrols cut into her reliability even more.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero!: Sometimes she doesn't think things through and it results in akumatizations.
  • One-Hit Kill: As Lady Noire, her Cataclysm can cause something to instantly rot and destroy.
  • Only I Can Kill Him: Justified. While Anatis is the only one who can purify the akuma, Lady Noire can use her power to destroy the akuma, though this kills the butterfly in the process.
  • Pink Means Feminine: Wears pink pants and a pink-accented shirt in her everyday outfit, and a large part of her room is pink.
  • Power Makes Your Hair Grow: When using the Cat Miraculous as Lady Noire, Marinette's hair grows long enough to form a braid that trails all the way down to her legs. It's her "tail".
  • Running on All Fours: She is based on a cat, after all.
  • Single Woman Seeks Good Man: She shows a modicum of attraction to Luka, not because of his cool guitar playing, but because of how kind and attentive he is.
  • Spin to Deflect Stuff: Lady Noire's weapon of choice is a retractable staff, so of course she does a lot of spinning with it to deflect attacks.
  • Stealth Expert: Marinette has shown to be quite stealthy, without transforming into Lady Noire, as she is able to sneak by her peers unnoticed.
  • Stock Shoujo Heroine: Downplayed. Marinette is a feminine aspiring fashion designer who is sweet, klutzy, self-effacing, and tongue-tied around her crush. But her superhero alter-ego, Lady Noire, is far more proactive and assertive than the usual example of this trope.
  • Super-Senses: Her cat ears enhance her hearing, enabling her to detect enemies from afar.
  • Swapped Roles: In Reflekdoll, Marinette gains the Ladybug Miraculous and becomes Ladybug. Though her costume is a little different to her canon-verse one.
  • Sweet Baker: Marinette and her family own a bakery, and they're all very kindhearted people, with Marinette being the titular hero and the others all being notably kind as well.
  • Sweet Tooth: Marinette likes sweets.
  • Telescoping Staff: Her primary weapon is a staff that can extend to seemingly any length.
  • Textile Work Is Feminine: Marinette is a definite girly-girl, and is shown to be capable of bringing the clothes she designs to life.
  • Touch of Death: Her Cataclysm power would be this if used against a living target. Fortunately, she doesn't use her power in that way, at least while in her right mind.
  • What Is Going On?: After Chloé nicely commissions her for a dress, she has a small moment. Inwardly though, after processing everything, she sees that unlike in Despair Bear, Chloé hadn't gone back to her old ways.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: As much as Chloé deserved it, Lady Noire's "The Reason You Suck" Speech toward her in "Lady Copycat" was still a little unnecessary considering she was only trying to help and turned out to have been correct on the location of Vanisher's akuma. Anatis even calls her out on it, and this results in Chloé becoming akumatized herself. She later apologizes to Chloé after she's de-evilized.
  • Workaholic: She is seen extremely busy non-stop (including doing favors for others).

    Culpeo

Juleka Couffaine/Culpeo/Holder of the Fox Miraculous

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screen_shot_2020_11_20_at_20738_am.png
Luka's younger sister and friends with Marinette. She's a shy girl who has trouble expressing herself. She is good friends with Rose.

During the events of Sapotis, Anatis entrusted her with the Fox Miraculous, and she became the fox-themed heroine, Culpeo.

  • Admiring the Abomination: While the rest of her classmates are running away in fear, Juleka has only this to say about the Horrificator: "Awesome.". It's the first indication that the Horrificator shrinks in the face of fearlessness.
  • Aloof Dark-Haired Girl: Subverted. She's the tallest of the girls in the class, has a quiet, introverted demeanor, and has very long dark hair and pale skin. However, she's quite a shy and awkward (albeit kind) person.
  • Band of Relatives: She is the bassist for Kitty Section, while her brother Luka plays guitar in the band. In the group's first appearance, both Couffaine siblings played guitar.
  • Break the Cutie: In "Reflekta", after Chloé and Sabrina pulled a nasty trick on her during Picture Day. She's so distraught that not only she refuses Rose's support, but she also runs to the park to cry alone after declaring herself invisible.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Juleka is quiet, prefers to dress in black clothing, and is a Nice Girl.
  • Emo Teen: She's shy, insecure and prone to tearful sulking when she's upset.
  • Family Theme Naming: Like her mother and brother, her name ends in "-ka".
  • Fatal Flaw: Juleka is extremely shy. This has caused her many problems in the past.
  • Goth: Her fashion style.
  • Guest-Star Party Member: While she isn't at the point where she needs to have a Miraculous full-time, Anatis occasionally drafts her aid as Culpeo to deal with particularly troublesome situations.
  • Hiding Behind Your Bangs: Has long bangs that cover one of her eyes, to indicate her goth personality and shyness. This trait carries over in her Culpeo transformation.
  • Huge Schoolgirl: Tallest female student at Collège Françoise Dupont, and taller than most male ones.
  • In a Single Bound: Culpeo is the best jumper out of the heroes. While Anatis and Lady Noire need to use their weapons to propel themselves, she just leaps from the ground to the top of a building without breaking a sweat.
  • Light Feminine and Dark Feminine: Dark feminine to her friend Rose's light. While Juleka is not particularly "devilish", she's still the introverted and aloof of the duo and favors darker, gothic clothing. It is inverted in their respective akumatized forms: Juleka gets a bright and colorful Rose-ish look whereas Rose gets an elegant dark/gothic, more "Julekan" look. Looks like each of them secretly wants to be the other one, hence their friendship.
  • Like Mother, Unlike Daughter: Her mother Anarka is a headstrong and outgoing woman, the polar opposite of Juleka's shy and soft-spoken personality.
  • Magical Flutist: Her weapon as a superhero is a flute that allows her to create illusions.
  • Master of Illusion: Her Mirage ability lets her create powerful illusions. However, she can only use this once before her Miraculous starts counting down to the end of the transformation.
  • Nerves of Steel: At least when it comes to fear. Juleka is very shy, but she doesn't get scared easily, which helps Anatis save everyone from Horrificator. She also quickly adapts to being a superheroine when she's lent the Fox Miraculous.
  • Nice Girl: A soft-spoken, timid girl who likes to be friends with everyone.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: She is actually amazed by Mylène being turned into Horrificator, simply saying "Awesome." when seeing her.
  • Perky Goth: Downplayed; her fashion style is Goth, and her personality is a blend of shy and awkward with a kind side.
  • Power Makes Your Hair Grow: As Culpeo, her hair gets visibly longer and puffier.
  • The Quiet One: Shares this role with Nathaniel and Marc. Juleka is exceedingly shy and has trouble voicing out her concerns, which is something her brother shares with her to an extent.
  • Superpowers for a Day: In "Sapotis", Anatis lends Juleka the Fox Miraculous, which turns her into the superheroine Culpeo. She has to give it back at the end of the episode. He calls upon her again in "Syren" to help wrangle up the escaped zoo animals.
  • Those Two Guys: With Rose.
  • The Rock Star: She's one of the two guitarists of the band "Kitty Section", and practices guitar during Art Class.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Averted; Juleka's eyes are deep red, and she is nothing but nice.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The timid, diffident blue to Rose’s outgoing, hyperactive red.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Juleka is shocked when Anatis comes to her with a Miraculous but convinces her to try and she ends up being the right choice. Trixx praises her for a job well done as well.

    Abeille

Rose Lavillant/Abeille/Holder of the Bee Miraculous

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screen_shot_2020_11_26_at_102656_pm.png
A friendly girl with a heart of gold who's close friend with Juleka and the lead singer in Kitty Section.

When Malediktator attacks, Anatis entrusts Rose with the Bee Miraculous, allowing her to become the new Bee Hero, Abeille

  • All-Loving Hero: Rose has an optimistic, happy attitude and cares for everyone around her, offering any help to them when she can.
  • Ambiguously Bi: She and Juleka are a couple. Unlike Juleka, however, it's definitely confirmed that she likes guys too (just ask Prince Ali).
  • Ascended Fangirl: Rose receives the Bee Miraculous in "Malediktator". Being a sucker for romance, she thinks that Anatis and Lady Noire's interactions are adorable.
  • Bad Powers, Good People: Like all miraculous, the Bee Miraculous was created to use their kwamis to make heroes, its special power "Venom" being able to paralyze one person using the stinger on their spinning-top. In the hands of Rose Lavillant however, she's able to use it stop Malediktator from enslaving the entire city.
  • Battle Tops: Uses a trompo as Abeille.
  • Boyish Short Hair: Inverted. Rose has the shortest hair of her female peers but is the girliest of them all.
  • Celeb Crush: She has a huge one on Prince Ali, and it's the reason she's akumatized.
  • Cute, but Cacophonic: Her high-pitched voice can become very shrill when she is excited, especially as Princess Fragrance.
  • Genki Girl: She’s endlessly cheerful and optimistic.
  • Girly Girl with a Tomboy Streak: See that cheery and pink-wearing girl on the page image? She's the lead singer of a rock band.
  • Godzilla Threshold: Subverted, as Luka upholds his promise to Chloé to not return the Bee Miraculous to her and instead gives it to Rose.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Rose is the sweet, cute, and girly flavor of blonde.
  • Innocent Blue Eyes: While not the only blue-eyed character, her eyes are especially large and baby-blue. She's shown to be an innocent romantic.
  • Light Feminine and Dark Feminine: She is the light to Juleka's dark. Rose is sweet and bubbly. Even her outfit has cute angel wings! It is inverted in their respective akumatized forms: Juleka gets a bright and colorful Rose-ish look whereas Rose gets an elegant dark/gothic, more "Julekan" look. Looks like each of them secretly wants to be the other one, hence their friendship.
  • Light Is Good: Wears bright clothing like Chloé but unlike her schoolmate, Rose is a total sweetheart.
  • Meaningful Name: Her name "Rose" means "pink" in French, and it reflects both her signature color and romantic personality.
  • Nice Girl: Seems to be the sweetest, kindest, and most naive student in the class.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Rose's unflinching idealism has backfired on her at times.
    • Rose believed Lila was one of the sweetest people in the world before Anatis, and subsequently Jagged Stone, proved her wrong.
    • In "Zombizou", she leaves the safety of the bus to save Chloé from the mob of love zombies, only to be infected herself.
  • Only Sane Man: In "Gigantitan", if her facial expression is any indication, she objects as to why someone else has the codename "rose" when that is literally her name.
  • The Paralyzer: As Abeille, her special power is Venom, which allows her to temporary paralyze a person.
  • Pink Means Feminine: Rose is always seen wearing an all-pink outfit. She also wants to change the classroom's wooden chairs for cute pink sofas.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The bubbly, excited red to Juleka’s shy, fragile blue.
  • Shipper on Deck: She supports Marinette's crush on Adrien and Luka.
  • Singing Voice Dissonance: Uses her best death metal growl as the vocalist for Kitty Section. Of course, her best is still higher-pitched than the normal speaking voices of some of the other girls, but it's still a far cry from her own speaking voice.
  • Single Woman Seeks Good Man: Why does Rose have such a huge crush on Prince Ali? Because he has a heart of gold.
  • Smitten Teenage Girl: She is the most idealistic student in the class, so it's easy to see why she would get so swept away with the idea of Prince Ali.
  • Those Two Guys: With Juleka.
  • Wide-Eyed Idealist: Practically textbook, and the other half of the equation that gets her akumatized since she apparently thinks she can trust Chloé to deliver her love letter to Prince Ali. She's crushed when Chloé tears the letter up in front of her.

    Leatherback

Ivan Bruel/Leatherback/Holder of the Turtle Miraculous

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screen_shot_2020_11_25_at_104745_pm.png
Ivan seems tough but actually has trouble expressing his feelings. He is in a relationship with Mylène and is the drummer for Kitty Section.

When Anansi kidnaps several of his friends, including Mylèbe, Anatis recruits Ivan to help him with the Turtle Miraculous, allowing Ivan to become the superhero, Leatherback.

  • All Drummers Are Animals: Averted. Ivan is the drummer for Kitty Section, but he's a Gentle Giant.
  • Ascended Fanboy: In "Anansi" when Alya's sister becomes akumatized, Ivan receives the Turtle Miraculous and becomes Leatherback.
  • Badass Normal: When Alya's sister, Nora, becomes the spider villain Anansi, Ivan puts up a valiant effort to fight her off himself after Nino is also captured. The results are pretty predictable, but the Turtle Miraculous quickly turns the tables in his favor...
  • Barrier Warrior: As Leatherback. His Shellter ability puts a Beehive Barrier around something to protect it.
  • Beehive Barrier: Leatherback's special skill, Shellter, creates a forcefield patterned after the shell on his back.
  • Big Ol' Eyebrows: Ivan has the biggest eyebrows of his peers.
  • Bruiser with a Soft Center: He comes off as the typical tough guy, but is kind and gentle with Mylène. When the Horrificator attacks, he's shown protecting and comforting his classmates from the akuma.
  • Determinator: In "Anansi", he stops at nothing to try and rescue Mylène and the others. From giant webs to said supervillain's stature and powers, no matter how many times he is mocked and knocked down (or thrown across Paris), he never gives up.
  • Dreadful Musician: He's a terrible singer, but in "Captain Hardrock", he proves to be a reasonably skilled drummer.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Dresses in black and is almost always a Perpetual Frowner, but is one of the nicest in the class.
  • Face of a Thug: He generally looks like a typical tough guy, is a Perpetual Frowner, has dyed hair and usually wears a black shirt, but he is actually a fairly gentle and easygoing person most of the time.
  • Gentle Giant: He's by far the largest in the class, but is usually quiet and gentle unless provoked.
  • Green and Mean: Inverted. As Leatherback, his suit is entirely green but he's a hero instead of a villain.
  • Guest-Star Party Member: He is drafted into becoming the turtle hero Leatherback in order to defeat Anansi.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: Mylène is practically half Ivan's height.
  • Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: Leatherback's weapon is a shell-like shield.
  • Nice Guy: He may look intimidating, but he has a tender heart.
  • Older Than He Looks: Reversed. He's one of the tallest in the class, but he's actually one of the youngest.
  • Opposites Attract: He's a surly Perpetual Frowner while Mylène is gentle and caring.
  • Perpetual Frowner: He seems to be always scowling, except around Mylène.
  • Superpowers for a Day: In "Anansi", he gets to borrow the Turtle Miraculous and become the superhero Leatherback.
  • Throwing Your Shield Always Works: Leatherback can use his shield as a projectile. After hitting its target, it flies back to him.
  • Youthful Freckles: He has some freckles on his nose and cheeks, emphasizing that, despite his height, Ivan is still a teenager.

    Sabertooth

Nino Lahiffe/Sabertooth/Holder of the Tiger Miraculous

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screen_shot_2020_11_25_at_105037_pm.png

Adrien's best friend. He wants to be a DJ. Nino is the outgoing, fun-loving foil to his gloomier pal, and although he might be a bit immature at times, he's loyal and wants the best for his bro.

When XY was akumatized in Blackout, Lady Noire sought him out and gave him the Tiger Miraculous to help her and Anatis. When wearing it, he becomes the superhero, Sabertooth.

  • Ambiguously Brown: He's of Moroccan descent.
  • Animal Eyes: [[spoiler:When he transforms into Sabertooth, his pupils become vertically slit like a cat's and become more of an amber color. His sclera (the whites of his eyes) turn gold, mimicking a cat's huge irises.
  • Ascended Fanboy: In "Blackout" Nino receives the Tiger Miraculous from Lady Noire to help her, and later Anatis fight an akumatized XY.
  • Barrier Warrior: As Bubbler, he creates bubbles which he uses for a variety of purposes; mostly to trap people inside.
  • Best Friend: To Adrien.
  • Birds of a Feather: He and Alya become a couple after finding out they have a lot in common.
  • Bromantic Foil: Adrien's primary male companion. He's more laid-back, cheerful, and outgoing than Adrien, who is somewhat more uptight, brooding, and reserved.
  • Camera Fiend: Like Alya, he's always ready with his phone camera to take videos of interesting happenings.
  • Cannot Spit It Out: His crush on Marinette in "Animan". He blurts out that he has a crush on Alya instead.
  • Character Development: Retroactively, but Nino mentions in "Heroes Day" that he used to be someone who wouldn't help others when they needed it, but due to the influence of Ladybug and Cat Noir, he has become more selfless.
    • He's also become much more assertive in his relationship with Alya, calling her out more often on her inappropriate behavior regarding her blog and her friends.
  • Curtains Match the Windows: Downplayed. Nino has brown hair and golden, brown eyes.
  • Fashionable Asymmetry: Downplayed. Nino's outfit would be symmetrical entirely if it wasn't for the fact he wears a variety of different colored bands on his left wrist.
  • Genre Savvy: He's a big film buff and accurately predicts that the cell phones wouldn't get a signal in "Horrificator" because it was just like a horror film.
  • Headphones Equal Isolation: Inverted. Nino is always seen with a pair of headphones but he is quite a sociable and friendly person. The headphones serve as a reminder of his dream of being a DJ.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: Nino is Adrien's best friend. They enjoy hanging out with each other, and they sit together in class.
  • I Don't Think That's Such a Good Idea: In Oblivio when Alya posts the photo of Anatis and Lady Noire's kiss as 'proof they are a couple' Nino expresses concern on whether that is a wise move, especially if the heroes themselves didn't consent to it.
  • Innate Night Vision: He gains night vision when he transforms into Sabertooth with the Tiger Miraculous, much like Lady Noire.
  • Invisibility Cloak: Using the Tiger Miraculous, he can use the ability 'Veil', which, for five minutes can turn him completely invisible.
  • Little Bit Beastly: As Sabertooth, his eyes are shaped to resemble a cat's, only they're brown instead of green like Lady Noire's.
  • Meaningful Name: His first name is pronounced and spelled "Niño" in Spanish, which means "boy".
  • My God, You Are Serious!: Nino laughs for a long time when Alya shares her theory that Adrien is Anatis. When Alya reveals she means business, he brushes the idea off.
  • Nice Guy: Nino is fun-loving, enthusiastic, friendly, and compassionate. He's a caring friend with a strong sense of right and wrong.
  • Purple Is the New Black: Since the Tiger Miraculous's ability is to turn invisible, a darker color for Sabertooth's outfit makes sense, the main colors being dark purple and magenta.
  • Recurring Boss: It's implied that he's been akumatized as the main villain twice at least. So far he's been akumatized four times in the series, three times as the Bubbler (Princess Justice, Heroes' Day, and Felix), and once as Oblivio with Alya.
  • Relationship Upgrade: Presumably enters into a relationship with Alya in "Animan" after being locked in a cage together.
  • Shipper on Deck: Nino uses footage of Ivan and Mylène's first kiss to conclude a movie he's making in "Horrificator".
  • Superpowers for a Day: In "Blackout", he gets to borrow the Tiger Miraculous and become the superhero Sabertooth.
  • Totally Radical: His slang can come across as quite dated.
  • Understanding Boyfriend: Nino sure tries his best when Alya demands him to help Marinette to be with their current schemes, even with Alya demanding kinda a lot from him.
  • Unwitting Muggle Friend: He doesn't know that his best friend Adrien was a superhero.
  • Verbal Tic: His frequent use of "dude".

    Bunnyx

Alix Kubdel/Bunnyx/Holder of the Rabbit Miraculous

A spirited, athletic tomboy whose father and brother are historians.

In “Timetagger” it’s revealed that, in the future, she will become the Rabbit superheroine Bunnyx.

  • All There in the Manual: Alix's family are of Berber origin.
  • Brought to You by the Letter "S": She wears a hat that has a stylized "S" on it.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Her watch turns out to be the disguised Rabbit Miraculous.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Alix tends to be very sarcastic about the insane goings-on around her.
  • Fashionable Asymmetry: Her hair, which includes wild spikes on her left side and a ponytail on her right.
  • The Fettered: More than any other Miraculous holder, Bunnyx has to show restraint in when and how she uses her powers, because of the unpredictable consequences of time travel.
  • Future Badass: "Timetagger" reveals that she will wield the Rabbit Miraculous and become the superheroine Bunnyx.
  • Godzilla Threshold: Because of how dangerous her powers are, Bunnyx is "the hero of last resort," the one who only steps in when all other heroes have failed, or when Apocalypse How is the only alternative.
  • Goggles Do Nothing: Her future self ditches her cap for a pair of goggles she keeps above her eyes. They disappear when she turns into Bunnyx.
  • Hidden Depths: "Reverser" shows that she does street art and is a good kite flyer. She's also buddies with Nathaniel.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Sure, she may not always be agreeable, but she has a strong sense of right and wrong, and when the chips are down, she's someone you want to have by your side.
  • My Future Self and Me: In "Timetagger", Alix is overjoyed to meet her future self, the superhero Bunnyx.
  • The Napoleon: It's most obvious when contrasted with some of the larger kids like Ivan, Juleka, or Chloé, who she has to look straight up to talk to, but Alix is seriously tiny. However, she's also the most Hot-Blooded and exuberant student in the class, and her size doesn't keep her from being very aggressive when she wants to be.
  • Odd Friendship: "Reverser" shows that she's good friends with shy artist Nathaniel because they're both into art.
  • Older and Wiser: The future Alix is far more subdued and intelligent than her teenage self.
  • Only Sane Man: In "Gigantitan", she's the one that understands Marinette's reasoning for wanting to ask both Luka and Adrien on a date at the same time, since her father does the same.
  • Pair the Spares: A platonic version, with Nathanael, in "Reverser".
  • Parasol of Pain: Her Miraculous tool takes the form of this.
  • Passionate Sports Girl: She loves rollerskating and is a member of the lacrosse team alongside Adrien, Kim, and Ivan.
  • Rollerblade Good: She's a beast when on rollerblades.
  • Sealed Good in a Can: The future Alix goes back in time and Hao Feng seals her in an obelisk so that the Rabbit Miraculous can eventually be passed down to her past self.
  • Shorttank: While not a protagonist, she has this personality, being tomboyish, rather mouthy, and boisterous.
  • The Slow Path: At some point in the future, she gets sent to the past and is preserved herself in an obelisk, leaving the Rabbit Miraculous to come into the Kubdel family's possession. Centuries later, she's freed and has present Alix return the watch to her.
  • Tank-Top Tomboy: She wears a dark brown tank top on a snake-patterned long-sleeved shirt.
  • Teleport Spam: She's incorporated her teleportation power into her fighting style.
  • Thinking Up Portals: Her main power is to create portals to travel through time. Unlike the present-day heroes, she can do this as many times as she wants.
  • Time Master: Not only in her supervillain form, Timebreaker, but also when she becomes Bunnyx. She can use her portals to travel through time. It's why she can keep up with Timetagger despite him sending her to different time periods because she can always quickly come back.
  • Time Police: As her future self is the resident Time Master, it's become her duty to pursue rogue time travelers or circumvent Bad Futures.
  • Tomboy: She has a spirited personality and enjoys sports.
  • Tomboyish Baseball Cap: She frequently wears a black baseball cap.
  • Tomboyish Ponytail: Alix wears a sidetail, though it looks more like pigtails from a distance.

    Ryūko

Kagami Tsurugi/Ryūko/Holder of the Dragon Miraculous

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screen_shot_2020_11_20_at_53408_pm.png

A student at Collège Francoise Dupont. A skilled fencing student, Adrien's girlfriend, and later a friend to both Marinette and Luka.

Was originally the Dragon Miraculous hero, Ryūko, but returned her Miraculous as a protest when Anatis appeared. She's been demoted to temporary hero status as a result.

  • Academic Athlete: Kagami is a terrific fencer and ice skater and she does archery.
  • Ambiguous Situation: Many Japanese families (especially for samurai or ninja descendants) or families who are prestigious on some specific Japanese martial arts still embrace the traditional patrilineal system, thus make most of their surnames taken from their father's side. In Kagami's case, however, her surname is taken from her mother's family name, which means that the possibility that her parents are no longer together exists. However, in Japan, if the woman is from a famous/prestigious family, the husband would take his wife's surname, especially if the family only had a daughter since the husband taking his wife's surname would help to continue the family name.
  • The Atoner: After her akumatization, she attempts to make amends with Anatis by learning to control her jealousy, and making friends with Luka and Marinette.
  • Bilingual Bonus: The Tsurugi family crest on Kagami's ring is the Japanese word for "woman" with a sword in it.
  • Birds of a Feather: With Adrien. Both of them are talented rich kids with friendless backgrounds raised by Control Freak parents.
  • Commonality Connection: Just like Adrien, she's a skilled fencer and both are lonely prodigies from an upper-class family.
  • Custom Uniform: Kagami's fencing uniform is red instead of the standard white like the rest of the class.
  • Disappeared Dad: It is unknown if Kagami's father is present in her life. Either both her parents raised her, or her mother, Tomoe, raised her alone.
  • Driven by Envy: In Riposte, Kagami is akumatized partially out of jealousy over Juleka becoming a new hero with the Fox Miraculous rather than Anatis coming to her or Adrien for help, both being experienced holders, though with different Miraculous. Anatis points this out after defeating her, chastising her hypocrisy.
  • Elemental Shapeshifter: The power of the Dragon Miraculous grants her this.
  • Empowered Badass Normal: When she uses the Dragon Miraculous, its weapon is a sword, and she's already a great swordfighter.
  • Fatal Flaw: She has no verbal filter; what she thinks is exactly what comes out. This is what puts her civilian identity at risk and exacerbates Marinette's preexisting spite towards her.
  • Good Is Not Soft: This holds her back from making friends with others, as her Brutal Honesty is interpreted as hostility and coldness.
  • Graceful Loser: Doesn't show any outward sign of disappointment or anger when she loses against Marinette during their fencing match, not that this stops Hawk Moth from akumatizing her anyway.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: She really tries to hold in her envy. Unfortunately, Hawk Moth doesn't care.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: She's a skilled fencer. Appropriately, as the Dragon Miraculous holder, her primary weapon is a sword.
  • Hidden Depths: Ryūko is Kagami's reckless side. She refuses to listen to Anatis during their fight with Queen of Mean, not caring who the akuma hits with her powers, giving the excuse that Anatis could fix everything afterward.
  • Horned Humanoid: Has dragon horns as Ryuko.
  • I Just Want to Be You: Implied. When word gets out about the new hero Culpeo, Kagami expresses why Anatis didn't go to Ryūko and Aspik, experienced holders, for help instead of choosing a newbie. This eventually plays a part in her akumatization.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Kagami is blunt, taunts her opponents during a fencing duel, and is even described as an "ice queen". However, she has shown to be quite hospitable and a Graceful Loser. And although her relationship with Marinette gets a little rocky in "Riposte", she reaches out to her in an effort to become friends with her afterward.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: Surprisingly, she turns out to be this as Ryūko. Despite being normally composed, she jumps straight into battle, not thinking twice about what's happening around her. This is seen both when Princess Justice attacks and during the fight with Queen of Mean. Anatis even bluntly points this out to her in the battle.
    • It's also implied she did the same during "Style Queen", despite still being in civilian form, to try and save Adrien.
  • Master Swordsman: She comes from a family of Olympic fencing champions, and she's at the same level as Adrien, who's the best pupil of an Olympic fencer as well.
  • Nom de Mom: Her surname comes from her mother's family's side.
  • No Social Skills: Due to being raised in a strict environment and having very little contact with peers her age like Adrien. She is generally blunt to the point of brutal honesty, which would repel people that can't handle her strong personality.
  • Perpetual Frowner: She goes at everything with a deadpan expression and monotone delivery. When she smiles, it initially looks completely forced.
  • Red Is Heroic: Not only does her civilian outfit and fencing gear have notable shades of red, but her superhero form is also primarily red in color, matching the Dragon Kwami, Longg.
  • The Resenter: Both because of Anatis's early successes, and because he was wielding the very Miraculous she and Aspik were told was too dangerous to use, she gives up his own Miraculous in jealous retaliation. She doesn't learn until after "Kung Food" how hurtful this action was towards Anatis.
  • Sacrificed Basic Skill for Awesome Training: With a Control Freak mother who puts Gabriel to shame, Kagami is an expert fencer that has made her a Worthy Opponent for Adrien and became a deadly foe for Anatis and Lady Noire as Riposte. With that said, she has No Social Skills.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: Kagami is even called "ice queen", but has shown to be polite and friendly underneath her icy exterior.
  • Took a Level in Badass: This girl already shows off amazing strength with her sword fighting skills. It was taken to new heights when she was the Dragon Miraculous hero, Ryūko.
  • Took a Level in Cheerfulness: After befriending Marinette and Luka, Kagami has shown moments of friendliness to both.
  • Two First Names: Inverted. "Kagami" and "Tsurugi" are both recognized, albeit uncommon, Japanese family names.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Is given a "Reason You Suck" Speech lecture from Anatis after the events of Kung Food, expressing his disappointment in her and Adrien for forsaking their hero duties for a pretty petty reason.
  • Youthful Freckles: More so than Marinette.

    Aspik

Adrien Agreste/Aspik/Holder of the Snake Miraculous

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screen_shot_2020_11_20_at_25637_pm.png
A classmate of Marinette's, a boy who lives with his wealthy, distant father. Even at school, he's a bit aloof, although considerate. Adrien really opens up to his best bud, Nino. Adrien works part-time as a model and is a Teen Idol in his own right.

He was originally the holder of the Snake Miraculous, and the hero Aspik alongside Ryūko, but returned his Miraculous as a protest when Anatis appeared. He’s only called upon when the Snake Miraculous is needed now.

  • Alliterative Name: Adrien Agreste.
  • Animal Eyes: When he transforms into Aspik, his pupils become vertically slit like a snake's.
  • Beneath the Mask: Adrien is the "superhero as true self" variant of this trope. As Aspik, he's was adventurous, wisecracking Casanova Wannabe. As Adrien, he's a lonely child at the mercy of a neglectful father who forces him to maintain a somber, perfect reputation. Activating his Miraculous' disguise gave Aspik the freedom to act in ways that he never could otherwise (although many of Adrien's insecurities definitely carry over).
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Adrien is a very sweet and cordial young man. However, he's not afraid to call out anyone, be it Chloé or Anatis, for their questionable behavior.
    • This is turned against him when Anatis points out just how damaging his own Nice Guy behavior can be after the hero chews out Lila.
  • Big Man on Campus: Adrien is a very popular and kind character in school, loved by almost everyone.
  • Body Horror: In "Style Queen", when Adrien is turned into a golden statue by the titular Akuma, his body slowly crumbles into glitter dust.
  • Broken Ace: He's a popular model with a rich father, well-liked at school, speaks multiple languages, fences, plays basketball, and has tons of fangirls. As Aspik, he was loved by the people as a local superhero before he abandoned the duty. However, this all came with a boatload of parental issues and a lonely upbringing.
  • But Not Too Foreign: The last name "Agreste" indicates he's of Italian descent.
  • Character Development: In the beginning, Adrien would only speak up sparingly against Chloé's mean actions because she was his Only Friend during the times he was homeschooled. Eventually, he stops making excuses for her and starts to actively reprimand her behavior. Incidentally, he gains more guts to rebel against his father, even if in sparse moments. This is the same with Lila, especially after a Heel Realization of just how harmful her lies are.
  • Chick Magnet: He has his fair share of admirers, more so in his civilian alter-ego.
    • Kagami is his girlfriend but wished to keep her status secret so that the press wouldn't badger her 24/7 like him.
    • Marinette had eyes on Adrien for the longest time and became easily jealous when another took interest in him. She's slowly dialed it down and started accepting Adrien's choice to remain friends.
    • Chloé can't stop flirting with him, even when he makes it clear he only likes her as a friend.
    • Lila was instantly smitten with Adrien and lied about being close with Lady Noire and being from a family of superheroes just to get closer to him.
  • Childhood Friend: Chloé was his only friend for years. This is why he initially doesn't call her out on her awfulness.
  • Didn't Think This Through:
    • Adrien was so concerned with keeping Lila happy, he failed to realize how bad things had gotten for Marinette, or how harmful Lila’s lies could be, or how badly his classmates could take the reveal when Lila gets exposed. Anatis calls him out for this after he catches Lila trying to lie to Adrien about being a descendant of a fox-themed hero, and the owner of the Fox Miraculous. His Heel Realization finally hits hard only after Lila's lies directly affect him.
    • He and Kagami didn't realize that by giving up their Miraculous would make Anatis more reluctant to come to them for backup, as proven when he goes to Juleka to take up the Fox Miraculous instead of one of them.
  • Dork Knight: He's a studious, kind-hearted, sweetace who genuinely cares about others. He's also a dorky, punny snake-boy, who despite being polite and pretty friendly, started out as a homeschooled kid who had difficulty relating to his peers.
  • Driven by Envy: In protest to Anatis's sudden appearance and jealousy of his skill with the Miraculous, Adrien gives up Sass and the Snake Miraculous.
  • Dumb Blonde: Downplayed. Adrien has shown to be quite smart, as he gets good grades in school, but is lacking in a few social cues.
  • Extreme Doormat: Deconstructed. Living with his emotionally neglectful and abusive father - who controls Adrien's entire daily life and schedule, finds fault in everything he does, doesn't listen to his son's arguments, and forces him to treat him like royalty -, has left Adrien a passive, obedient people-pleaser. This nature in the face of social conflict in his civilian life, not to mention his lacking social skills, has majorly contributed to Marinette's suffering under Lila. So instead of standing up for her to stop the bullying, inquiring about her wellbeing, investigating what Lila was doing, or disproving her lies, he let Lila's actions continue and escalate.
  • Fatal Flaw: A few.
    • Adrien's need to please and make everyone around him happy, as explained under the entry of Extreme Doormat. He abandoned Marinette to keep Lila happy so that the latter wouldn't be akumatized, and was also afraid of being bullied if he stood up for her or himself. This has greatly affected Marinette's crush on him.
      • Ties in with Naivety as he believes that anyone is capable of change if they're surrounded by good influences and examples. What he fails to understand is that this is only possible if the person wants to change in the first place.
    • Unable to see long term consequences is another one, as when he gave up his Miraculous, he didn't consider the amount of trust he would lose with not only Paris but also the other Miraculous holders.
  • Friendless Background: He states that before he started going to Marinette's school, he didn't have any friends (though he has known Chloé for a while).
  • Good Cannot Comprehend Evil: Downplayed. He believes strongly that most people can be reasoned with and met on diplomatic grounds. Sometimes it works, sometimes not so much. This is not the case with Hawk Moth. Likewise, once he gets a good look at just how genuinely malicious Lila can be, he became much more untrusting to her.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: He is blond and extremely kindhearted.
  • Heel Realization: Adrien experiences this when Lila steals a book that belongs to his father, which results in him being pulled from school. At first, Adrien didn't think Lila's lies were hurting anyone, but it was only when he was personally affected by them that he realized he was wrong.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: Zigzagged. Adrien takes fencing classes and is talented in it, but doesn't use a sword weapon in battle.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: He is Nino's best friend. They enjoy hanging out with each other, and they sit together in class.
  • Homeschooled Kids: He only began attending middle school at the start of the current school year, and initially has trouble making new friends because of his association with Chloé. And unlike the stereotypical example of being socially awkward, Adrien is pretty friendly, if a bit reserved.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: Adrien shows this multiple times, first with Chloé, refusing to stand up to Chloé's bratty behavior, still being friends with her after realizing "she'll never change." Next, believing that Lila is a misunderstood girl that is lying only because she wants friends and would eventually stop, believing her lies ultimately aren't hurting people.
    • Chloé has begun to make a conscious effort to change, and Adrien has shown his support in her efforts.
  • I Just Want to Be Loved: His loneliness is rooted in his mysterious Missing Mom, emotionally distant father, lack of friends during his childhood sans one, and being homeschooled for most of his life.
  • Improbable Weapon User: Aspik's tool, of all things, is a harp or lyre. It isn't made clear as to how it can be used as a weapon, but it can be used like a discus or as a distraction.
  • Ironic Name: Adrien's surname, Agreste, means "rustic," which in no way describes his wealthy lifestyle.
  • Jumped at the Call: Even after he gives up the Snake Miraculous, he attempts to jump back in as a hero, despite not having the same protection and powers as Anatis and Lady Noire.
  • Knight in Sour Armor: Downplayed. It's hard for to get Adrien akumatized because he's used to disappointment.
  • Lonely Rich Kid: He's quite popular at school, but his home life is horrible: his father is extremely strict and distant, his mother is nowhere to be found, and Nathalie, his father's assistant and the person Adrien interacts the most with while he's at home, is also quite cold.
  • Lovable Jock: He fences and plays basketball, but is a Nice Guy.
  • Momma's Boy: Implied. Adrien mentioned his father was always stiff and cold even before his mother's disappearance, but any time Adrien is thinking about his mother, it's with fondness and love. This may mean that Adrien had a closer relationship with his mother than his father.
  • Morality Pet: Adrien is this to some extent to Chloé. Originally, he was the only person who she is never — at least intentionally — mean to.
  • Mr. Fanservice: Adrien is very cute. As a model, there are plenty of pictures of him looking cute.
  • Musical Assassin: His weapon as Aspik is a small harp or lyre.
  • Nice Guy: Adrien is very friendly and helpful towards everyone, especially his friends.
  • No Social Skills: Downplayed. Adrien is aware of social etiquette, but he sometimes struggles to act like kids his age, since his Only Friend for most of his life was Chloé.
  • Omniglot: He can speak many languages. Such as Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, English, French, and Morse code.
  • Oblivious to Love: Infamously, he misses every indication of Marinette's massive crush on him. It helps that he currently has a girlfriend, Kagami.
  • Pretty Boy: Adrien is very slender with fine facial features. He's even a model!
  • The Resenter: Both because of Anatis's early successes, and because he was wielding the very Miraculous he and Ryūko were told was too dangerous to use, he gives up his own Miraculous in jealous retaliation. He doesn't realize until after Kung Food how hurtful this action was towards Anatis and Paris as a whole.
  • Save Scumming: As Aspik, he possessed the ability to rewind time by up to five minutes after a specific point, keeping his memories of what he'd done the other times.
  • Secret-Keeper: Due to revealing their identities to each other, Adrien is aware of Kagami's identity as Ryūko.
  • She Is Not My Girlfriend: When Adrien learns Lila was trying to trick him into a date, he rather firmly tells her (when she's Volpina) that had he known that he never would have gone to see her since he had a girlfriend already.
  • Sheltered Aristocrat: Adrien was born into a wealthy family, but due to his father's overprotectiveness, Adrien wasn't allowed to go to public school until recently.
  • Shoot the Medic First: Because of his powers, his enemies need to take him down first if they want to have any chance to win and as such.
  • Skewed Priorities: Adrien fails to see long-term consequences in favor of short-term placation. By returning the Snake Miraculous out of spite, he failst o see the trust that he has broken with not only Anatis, but with the Guardian of the Miraculous as well. He'd also rather keep everyone happy to avoid an akuma, which is impossible. Everyone includes people who need to be stopped in their actions like Lila or (at first) Chloé, who are abusing the people around them and causing much more harm (and akumas) in the long-term. And while his concerns have merit, Hawk Moth will always find other events to abuse as long as he has the Butterfly Miraculous.
    • He's slowly working out of this habit, especially after his Heel Realization involving Lila and Chloé's efforts to truly change her ways.
  • Small Steps Hero: Adrien is the type of person who tries to do immediate good without thinking of future consequences.
  • Snake People: Originally took up the Snake Miraculous and became the superhero Aapik before Anatis came around.
  • Stepford Smiler: Adrien is affable on the surface, but feels very restricted in his everyday life. He felt much freer as Aspik.
  • Support Party Member: Aspik has no offensive powers, and shines when he is among fellow superheroes.
  • Teen Idol: He's a popular model.
  • Time Rewind Mechanic: As Aspik, he had the ability "Second Chance", allowing him to rewind time by up to five minutes to the point where he invoked the power, and keep his memories in the process.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Passionfruit.
  • Troubled, but Cute: Downplayed. While Adrien is a Chick Magnet with a genuinely kind heart, he also a troubling relationship with his father, a Missing Mom (with the implication he was closer to her), and self-esteem issues.
  • Undying Loyalty: He's shown that no matter what, he won't betray Kagami. This is evident when Volpina reveals that she was 'on a date with him' when Anatis interrupted them.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Discussed in "Desperada Returns". When Adrien initially refuses to try using the Snake Miraculous again after failing thousands of times, Anatis points out how Adrien can use the power for more than a time loop, citing the strategic uses of Second Chance from his brief time as Red Mamba.
  • Unwitting Muggle Friend: While he means it as a joke, in "The Collector" he does consider that Luka could be Anatis, but Juleka shoots it down, saying if her brother was a superhero, his main weapon would be a guitar.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Occurs twice. When Adrien first gives up his Miraculous out of jealousy towards Anatis. Then when Adrien tries to rejoin the fight without a Miraculous, but still in an Aspik disguise, knowing he could get seriously hurt and make it harder for the heroes to fight the villain. Eventually, Anatis got fed up with Aspik's antics (and bad puns) that he duct-taped him to a chair and later duct-taped his mouth as well.

     Valkyrie

Chloé Bourgeois/Valkyrie/Holder of the Horse Miraculous/Queen Bee/Former Holder of the Bee Miraculous

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screen_shot_2020_11_21_at_61307_pm.png
The daughter of the Mayor of Paris, she goes to school with Marinette and is a grade below Luka. Chloé has a huge, shameless crush on Adrien. As a result, he is possibly the only person in the entire school (make that the entire city) that she treats nicely. Everyone else (especially Marinette and Sabrina, Chloé's "best friend") has suffered from her original vain, domineering, entitled, petty, and selfish attitude. On the other hand, she idolizes Anatis (she has a cardboard cutout of him!) and Lady Noire, and being one of the only friends Adrien had growing up, it has made it difficult for Adrien to so much as confront her about her nasty attitude.

At the end of "Style Queen", she accidentally gets her hands on the Bee Miraculous and temporarily becomes a bee-themed "superhero" named Queen Bee. After she was akumatized in Queen Wasp, Anatis has a personal talk with her and convinces her to seek help for her behavior, as well as the abuse and neglect she was suffering under her mother and father respectively. It seems to be working as she has backed off on her attitude greatly.

In the chapter, Startrain Anatis entrusts Chloé with the Horse Miraculous and becomes the new Horse Heroine, Valkyrie.

  • Adaptational Heroism: Chloé. In canon, her reaction to losing the Bee Miraculous is to turn traitor and out all of her former teammates to Hawk Moth in a mad attempt to get it back. Here, Anatis sits down and talks to her about getting professional help to cope with her mother's abuse and father's passivity. She agrees to get help and prove to Anatis that she's worthy of wielding a Miraculous again. She also accepts that she won't be using the Bee Miraculous again due to outing her identity earlier in the chapter.
    • By the time Reverser happens, Chloé was correcting herself when addressing Marinette, calling her by her first name rather than her last name. She also asks her, quite politely, for a dress for an event her mom was hosting months later.
    • The New York Special has shown that Chloé has greatly progressed in this since that talk.
  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: Chloé when being a Damsel in Distress, after complaining about her hair getting greasy, screams for Anatis to help her in "Kung Food".
  • The Atoner: She accepts that she can no longer be Queen Bee with surprising grace, and strives to prove herself potentially worthy of bearing another Miraculous instead.
  • Ascended Fangirl: Chloé receives the Bee Miraculous at the end of "Style Queen", albeit by accident. After her akumatization into Queen Wasp Anatis makes it clear that she can't get the Bee Miraculous again due to her exposing her identity, but also seems to hint that he may give her a different one if she seeks help to change.
  • Believing Their Own Lies: Chloé seems to truly believe that everybody adores her.
  • Break the Haughty: She does not take it well when one of her idols Lady Noire refuses to take her advice during a battle and then calls her a liar, which results in her getting akumatized. When Adrien threatens to end their friendship, and Luka calls her a horrible person, however, this time, she's outright shocked and sulking.
  • Brutal Honesty: While she is not at all averse to lying, Chloé is more likely to tell the bluntest and hurtful version of the truth.
  • Butt-Monkey: She tends to get into a lot of misfortune when Hawk Moth akumatizes someone.
  • Cassandra Truth: When she tries to tell Lady Noire where Vanisher's akuma is, Lady Noire doesn't listen to her because she wasn't completely honest with her earlier in the episode.
  • Character Catchphrase: "Ridiculous, utterly ridiculous!" Implied in "Style Queen" to have been borrowed from her mother.
  • Celeb Crush: It's heavily implied that she has a crush on Anatis. Well, considering she has a cardboard cutout of him...
  • Childhood Friend: Of Adrien. She was one of the few friends he had growing up.
  • Closet Geek: Chloé adores Anatis and Lady Noire, enough to dress up like the superheroine when she is alone in her room. She'll also roleplay with a large Anatis cardboard cutout that she shamelessly flirts with. In "Lady Copycat" we find out she runs around her hotel dressed as Lady Noire with Sabrina as Anatis, pretending to catch one of the butlers they're having pretend to be a villain.
  • Daddy's Girl: Chloé is doted on by her father and she genuinely loves him.
  • Fearless Fool: Unless danger is right in front of her nose, Chloé is blind to her own mortality. Combined with her obsession with the heroes, Chloé will usually leap into the center of danger to get close to her idol when the smart thing to do would be running.
  • First Friend: Chloé admits to Anatis after Queen Wasp that Pollen was the first real friend she ever had (outside of Adrien), and will genuinely miss her.
  • Girls Love Stuffed Animals: Her absolute favorite childhood toy is a yellow teddy bear named Mr. Cuddly.
  • Glory Hound: As Queen Bee, she's willing to endanger an entire subway train full of civilians so she can get glory as a superhero and impress her mother.
  • Goggles Do Nothing: She always wears sunglasses on top of her head, but she's hardly ever seen actually using them.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Subtle for now, but "Reverser" has shone that Chloé's slowly and genuinely trying to change.
  • Hero with an F in Good: Chloé's arrogance, mixed with her general lack of experience and the fact that she's mostly interested in using her newfound status to win her mother's affection, makes for a pretty terrible superhero. Because of this, Anatis is refraining from giving her a Miraculous again until she changes her attitude and gets help.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • She finally gets some in "Despair Bear". When her childhood stuffed bear is given to her by her butler, she remembers her childhood as a little girl, where we see her playing with Adrien, being given the teddy bear by her father, watching her mother leave, and crying her eyes out while clutching the teddy close to her. Adrien himself has stated that she can be nice at times, though she probably has trouble showing it.
    • Despite her clingy treatment of him, it's clear that Chloé really does care about Adrien and values her friendship with him.
  • His Own Worst Enemy: A female version. Chloé's own self-interest and ego have caused more trouble for her and others.
  • Hopeless Suitor: She has a crush on Adrien, but he doesn't see her as anything more than a friend. He takes her constant physical affection in stride, but sometimes he is just embarrassed.
  • Hotel Hellion: Chloé lives in the luxury hotel her father owns, and often has the staff on his payroll participate in her Anatis and Lady Noire LARPing.
  • I Just Want to Be Special: As shown in "Style Queen" and "Queen Wasp" thanks to her abusive mother, Chloé believes deep down that she's an unexceptional person, and all her ploys for attention are desperate attempts to prove she's special.
  • Inferiority Superiority Complex: Chloé is a classic Alpha Bitch and Spoiled Brat at the beginning, being the primary cause for most akumas, though this dissipates as she starts to go through her prolonged Heel–Face Turn. Her selfishness and narcissism, her lack of friends aside from Adrien and Sabrina, and how everyone in the school hates her make her feel useless. After a long-awaited talk with Anatis, she finally begins to grow out of this. Keyword slowly.
  • Lovable Alpha Bitch: Very downplayed, but "Despair Bear" and "Zombizou" show that she does have a heart very deep down, sowing the seeds for this trope.
  • Meaningful Name: "Bourgeois" is a French word used to designate a well-off person. Nowadays, it's often used with a pejorative connotation, implying that the person is arrogant and scorns others because of his/her wealth.
  • Nobody Touches the Hair: Chloé is extremely protective of her blonde locks, to the point that her idea of a worst-case scenario is a bad hair day. Just to put it into perspective, she lives in a world where magical supervillains are real. And a large majority of them have a personal grudge against her specifically.
  • Only Friend: Was this to Adrien before he started attending public school. This is the main reason—if not the only reason—why he still maintains a friendship with her, despite often being disgusted by her behavior. Him threatening to end it after she makes a prank call to the fire department actually leaves her speechless, and causes her to try and be nice to people in an effort to fix it.
  • Picky Eater: Refuses to touch any food considered "common."
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: Makes a few racist statements in "Kung Food".
  • Prophetic Names: Chloé's name comes from an Ancient Greek word meaning "sprout." The ultimate fate of a sprout is to bloom and grow into a plant, foreshadowing her Character Development from a puerile bully to a hero.
  • Recurring Boss: She's been akumatized three separate times: as Queen of Mean, Lady Copycat, and Queen Wasp.
  • Secret Identity: Defied Trope. She proudly proclaims to the world that she is Queen Bee the second she gets a chance. Nadja even lampshades it by noting her "not-so-secret identity".
  • Security Blanket: Mr. Cuddly, her favorite teddy bear. As a child, she used to hug it whenever she felt upset or sad. Even now, the plushie still means a lot to her, though she's understandably embarrassed when her classmates find out.
  • Selective Obliviousness: Despite her callous Alpha Bitch attitude, it is implied that Chloé keeps insisting that "everyone just loves her" in "Evillustrator" (and again in "Lady Copycat") because she genuinely believes it.
  • Skewed Priorities: When about to be boiled alive in "Kung Food," she complains about her hair and clothes becoming greasy. Lampshaded when Kung Food tells her it's the least of her worries.
  • Took a Level in Badass: In Despair Bear, she actually helps Anatis take down the akuma instead of running in fear. Anatis even refers to her as his and Lady Noire's sidekick. She even saves Anatis from being hit by a Cataclysm from a mind-controlled Lady Noire, by grabbing her braid and pulling her back at exactly the right moment.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Thanks to some actual Character Development, and Anatis's encouragement, Chloé starts showing some kindness and even apologizes to everyone in class for her behavior, hoping to start over with them.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: It has been mentioned more than once that Chloé likes sushi.
  • Tragic Keepsake: Downplayed. Her bee-colored, diamond-eyed teddy bear from when she was a toddler and from back when her mother was still around. However, her mother isn't dead, just very neglectful, making a Chloé a "Well Done, Daughter!" Girl.
  • Tsundere: She's just very selective about who she shows her softer side to (aside from Adrien and possibly Sabrina). It's strongly implied that this is connected to her Missing Mom.
  • The Unchosen One: Unlike Juleka, Chloé was not originally chosen by Anatis to receive her Miraculous, and just happened to stumble upon it after it was knocked out of Anatis's hands. Subverted when Anatis hints he may consider her for a different Miraculous in the future if she makes an effort to improve her attitude.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: At the beginning, she was such a mean person that she was often the cause of somebody else turning into an akuma.
  • Wealth's in a Name: Her surname "Bourgeois" is a term used for the snobby, apathetic middle class.
  • "Well Done, Daughter!" Girl: Common among children when one parent leaves, Chloé idolizes her mother even though Audrey abandoned her, and is so desperate for her approval that she would reveal herself to be Queen Bee. Not earning Audrey's approval is enough to cause Chloé to become akumatized again.

    Apollo

Max Kanté/Apollo/Holder of the Rooster Miraculous

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screen_shot_2020_11_25_at_105226_pm.png
One of the smartest kids in the class. Max is good friends with Kim.

In "Blackout”, when he helps the heroes defeat XY, Lady Noire gives him the Rooster Miraculous, allowing him to become the hero Apollo.

  • Big Ol' Eyebrows: Has thick, brown eyebrows.
  • Black and Nerdy: He's black and seems the part by all accounts — he dresses like one, he serves as The Smart Guy for the class, and dedicated a significant amount of time to mastering a video game.
  • Blinded by the Light: The Rooster Miraculous's special ability is Flare, which makes a blinding flash of light when shooting one of its arrows at an enemy.
  • Bottomless Magazines: We can only assume, since the Miraculous is magical, that Apollo won't run out of arrows to shoot.
  • Brainy Brunette: Max has brown hair and has been stated to be the smartest of Marinette's class. He's a talented gamer, good at mathematics, and created his own robot.
  • Curtains Match the Windows: Brown hair and eyes.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: Builds a very sophisticated robot, Markov.
  • Good with Numbers: Max is very good in mathematics, as seen when he figures out how fast Kim needs to be to make it to Pont des Arts right before Chloé gets there in "Dark Cupid".
  • Momma's Boy: He loves his mother dearly.
  • Mythology Gag: The Rooster Miraculous's ability is to cast a flash of light to blind enemies, and the god Apollo is the god of the sun and a master archer. Max was likely inspired by the Greek god for his hero name.
  • Nerd Glasses: Large, square black ones.
  • Nice Guy: He's usually friendly with his classmates, often using his knowledge to help them.
  • Odd Friendship: He's close friends with Kim, who is pretty much his polar opposite.
  • Power Dyes Your Hair: His hair changes to fiery orange and red when using the Rooster Miraculous.
  • The Smart Guy: Max seems to be this for the class, willing to rattle off facts and statistics at the slightest provocation.
  • Smart People Build Robots: Max invented his cute Robot Buddy, Markov, whose A.I. is somehow sophisticated enough to be akumatized.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: Max wears Nerd Glasses and is the smartest one in Marinette's class.
  • Sore Loser: He lapses into this during his Moment of Weakness, as despite his best efforts to be a Graceful Loser in public he's resentful that Marinette and Adrien both score higher than him at the eliminations for a video game competition he spent a year training for. Cue akuma.
  • The Straight and Arrow Path: Much like the other heroes, Apollo already has a solid understanding of his powers when he transforms. This seems to apply to his bow and arrows too, since he needs to use them for his power to work.
  • Teen Genius: Is about 13-15, but in "Robostus", he manages to build a robot who can fly and has a fairly sophisticated A.I.
  • Trick Bomb: While an actual bomb isn't used, The Rooster's ability it to make a blinding flash of light with a arrow the hero fires.

Other Holders

    Jade Turtle

Wang Fū/Guardian of the Chinese Miracle Box

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/master_fu_origin_p1_9.png

The keeper of the Miraculous and a Holder of the Turtle Miraculous. Acts as a mentor and guide for Anatis and Lady Noire.

  • Big Good: As the Guardian of the Miraculous, it is Fū's job to oversee the protection of the Miraculous and make sure that they don't end up in the wrong hands.
  • Character Catchphrase: Whenever he gives more Miraculous to Luka to lend out to other heroes, he says, "Luka Couffaine, pick an ally you can trust to fight alongside you on this mission. Choose wisely. Such powers are meant to serve the greater good. Once the mission is over, you must retrieve the Miraculous from them."
    • He says the same for Marinette when she comes by in "Ikari Gozen", and again on Heroes' Day when both hereos come to gather Miraculous.
  • *Crack!* "Oh, My Back!": Master Fū tries to activate his transformation sequence, but gets a cramp mid-pose and decides against it.
  • Fatal Flaw: Master Fū is painfully paranoid when it comes to the Miraculous being used for incorrect purposes. This paranoia is what prevented him from releasing the Ladybug and Cat Miraculous, but they are also the only Miraculous that can properly deal with the akumas and repair the damage afterward.
  • Last of His Kind: Fū is the last vestige of the Order of the Guardians. For now anyway...
  • Literal-Minded: Inverted. In "Syren", he tries deciphering the ingredients to the transformation potions for the kwamis, seeing every written description as a metaphor. Because of this, he never thought to use a literal "tear of joy".
  • Meaningful Name: The most common character used for Fū's name (傅) translates to "teacher" or "mentor." It can also be interpreted to mean "good fortune" and "happiness" (福).
  • The Medic: "Princess Fragrance" reveals that he can heal sick and injured kwami, and his dialogue seems to imply it's an ability of his Miraculous.
  • Mentor Archetype: Master Fū fills this role as Anatis learns more about the Miraculous. He even convinces the Guardian to bring Lady Noire into some of the lessons.
  • Miniature Senior Citizens: Though not necessarily tiny, Fū is shorter than Luka and Marinette.
  • My Greatest Failure: After the events of "Queen Wasp" and Luka succeeds in retrieving the Bee Miraculous, Fū reveals that Hawk Moth's reign is partially his fault because he lost the Peacock and Butterfly Miraculous years ago. Despite this, Luka states that he doesn't blame Fū for Hawk Moth.
  • My Greatest Second Chance: Subverted. He tries to transform so he can fight Princess Justice alongside Aspik and Ryūko, but it doesn't work. As a result, he entrusts the Ladybug Miraculous to Luka and sends him to rescue them.
  • New Powers as the Plot Demands: He can create potions that grant the kwamis additional powers. So far, he can create at least seven, which he gives to Luka and Marinette.
  • Non-Action Guy: Master Fū fits this category for the moment as we have yet to see him actually fight with a Miraculous himself. It's implied that in his early years that he was a formidable fighter, but problems with health (his bad back) and age (he's over 150 years old!) have taken its toll on him, forcing him to take a more backseat and mentoring role in the fight against Hawk Moth.
  • Power of Trust: Once Master Fū meets Luka in the first chapter of the fic, he immediately decides to entrust him with one of the most powerful Miraculous in existence, even though he only met the teen by chance during the attack. At the time it seemed to be because Luka was around, avaliable, and trustworthy for this one task, but when the Miraculous are involved, you learn quickly that nothing is a coincidence. Once he completes the mission, Master Fū lets Luka keep Tikki and her Miraculous, trusting that Luka won't abuse the power.
  • Properly Paranoid: Originally, Master Fū didn't want to release the Ladybug and Black Cat Miraculous at all, knowing how dangerous they could be should Hawk Moth find them. It also takes Luka convincing him with his Lucky Charm to release more Miraculous. He also insists that more Miraculous be loaned as needed, and they must be returned to him after each mission.
  • Really 700 Years Old: He's 186 years old, but looks like a regular old man. How he's lived so long isn't explained.
  • Secret-Keeper: As the one who chose Luka and Marinette to wield the Ladybug and Cat Miraculous (and originally Adrien and Kagami for the Snake and Dragon Miraculous), he is one of the only ones who know their true identities. He's also aware of the identities of all other Miraculous wielders, sans Hawk Moth.
  • Technologically Blind Elders: Zigzagged. He's savvy enough to take pictures of the pages of the Miraculous spellbook so he can have access to its contents after Luka has to return it to Gabriel so that he will allow Adrien to return to school.
  • Too Desperate to Be Picky: After Princess Justice captures Aspik and Ryūko, it seems like he gave the Ladybug Miraculous, a Miraculous that he was desperate not to use to the first person he saw. However, since the Ladybug's power relies on luck, he assumed Luka was simply lucky enough to stumble upon him when he needed him most.
  • Tragic Mistake: We learn a little more about Master Fū's mistake earlier than in canon. While we aren't told the entire story, in Queen Wasp, after Luka apologizes for losing the Bee Miraculous, Master Fū tells him how he lost the Butterfly and Peacock Miraculous when he was young, but never recovered them. Because of that, Hawk Moth now had the Butterfly and Peacock, and they were being used for evil purposes.
  • Wise Old Turtle: The Guardian of the Miraculous and the closest thing Luka and Marinette have to a mentor. He's an elderly Chinese man who — fittingly — wields the Turtle Miraculous.
