As a gacha game, the food spirits are split up by rarity. And since it accounts for China's history of its cuisine, there's spirits aplenty. Due to length, the list is split into subpages based on the characters' rarity; on this page are character groups with too few members to warrant subpages.

Food Spirits

Variable Rarity

    Hu-Geng

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/91731edf_0c22_4740_9cf4_88bb1b696404.png
A royal servant with unique way of handling things
SR form
SSR form

Cuisine: Common (普)
Class: Heal
Other Names:
Voiced by: Chen Jiaheng (CN), Yūma Uchida (JP), Andre Faris (EN)

Hu-Geng became a food spirit around Shang and Zhou dynasties, cooked by the Food Deity Yizhi himself and effectively making him the first spirit resident in Kongsang. He was the personal aide of the Food Deity until Kongsang's destruction, to which he lends his services to the young master. Under his feathered robe lies a past unknown to everyone.

  • An Offer You Can't Refuse: Yi Ya shows him proof that his brother survived and is now staying with the Realm of Melanya, essentially using his brother as a hostage to force Hu-Geng to work with them behind the young master’s back.
  • Angst Coma: He was so devastated when he had to kill his own brother that he stayed within the "Tales of Food" for twenty years, simply refusing to wake up, and may have kept it that way if the destruction of Kongsang hadn’t occurred. In Chapter 7, he also seems to pass out from agony and grief after stabbing his brother.
  • Animal Motifs: Swans, as his name translates to "swan soup". He attacks with swan feathers, and has swan patterns embroidered into his clothes.
  • Battle Butler: Canonically, he serves as the young master’s personal valet in Kongsang and always accompanies them on trips to the past as he protects and takes care of them.
  • Crutch Character: He has a relatively useful skillset that is strong on support, but his low stats as a Rare unit mean his healing can’t catch up when the enemies get stronger, especially when the player can get Candied Ginkgo Nut - a Jack of All Stats SSR healer - quite early in the game by doing beginner’s missions. This is subverted however once he has a raise in rarity, as his improved stats allow him to handle stronger opponents.
  • Feather Motif: While it comes with his Animal Motifs, his association with white feather also brings to mind an angel - quite fitting considering how he appeared in Kongsang’s darkest hours to guide and assist the young master in recovering Kongsang. The young master themself makes the comparison as soon as Chapter 1.
    Hu-Geng: "What’s…an angel?"
The Young Master: "An angel is someone like you."
  • Hidden Depths: Despite how he usually shelters the young master, he has less common knowledge when it comes to the mortal world than them. For example, he doesn’t know what a Red Light District is, thus he can’t understand why the young master finds it strange that West Lake Fish is there nor why they’re flustered by the attention.
  • Mechanically Unusual Fighter: He's different from other summons in many ways, likely due to being a literary metaphor in real life rather than an actual dish.
    • His rarity is variable: starts out as R, turns into SR after enough petals have been unlocked, and becomes SSR at full petals. He's the only one able to change his rarity.
    • He's the only one that you cannot get from the gacha. His ascensions are rewarded in specific story chapters, which means that his gameplay progression is also tied to the main story.
    • As a result, only one copy of him can ever be obtained, which means he can't be upgraded normally like the others and can't be discarded. While you can earn his affection through the search, you will never get his keepsakes that way.
  • Mistaken for Betrayal: In Chapter 5’s epilogue, Hu-Geng was dubbed a traitor by the Envoys of Five Flavors after he was caught stealing the "The Tale of Food" and bringing it to the Realm of Melanya. As it turns out, Hu-Geng went there in order to rescue his brother and brought the book with him because he wanted to use its healing power on the brother, who was said to be heavily wounded.
  • Mystical White Hair: While he isn’t the only Food Spirit with white hair, it complements his Feather Motif and his mysterious nature.
  • Painting the Medium: His appearance in the Love Meal Box daily event also changes according to what rarity he’s at.
  • Power Gives You Wings: His SR form is just him growing a pair of white wings. His SSR form has two pairs.
  • Power Makes Your Hair Grow: When he becomes an SSR, aside from a change in wardrobe, he also has much longer hair.
  • Sibling Murder: 20 years ago, his brother Zhi Geng was ordered by his master to assassinate the baby young master, and in order to protect them, Hu-Geng killed him in return. Subverted as it turned out the one Hu-Geng killed was a food demon disguised as Zhi Geng, since Zhi Geng couldn’t bring himself to do it. Played straight for the second time though as it’s all but stated that Hu-Geng chose to attack his brother when forced to pick between him and the young master by Yi Ya, which proves his loyalty but pains him terribly.
  • Starter Mon: He’s the very first unit the player gets by default, and plays the support role for a starter team.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: He and Zhi Geng both have (a part of) white hair with pink gradient, and feathered wings of the same color. Downplayed in that this maybe a result of their creators being blood brothers, as Food Spirits have no actual blood relation,
  • Team Mom: He acts like one for the Food Spirits in Kongsang as the place’s new butler, and his voice lines and interactions with the young master also has a motherly reminiscence to them, like giving them snacks, reminding them not to stay up late playing video games, preparing their daily meals, and immediately preparing to record what he thinks is a special moment of the young master. As such, some Food Spirits jokingly call him "mom" or point out his motherly behavior.
  • Undying Loyalty: He’s incredibly loyal to Yizhi and his child, to the point he has attacked his own brother twice to protect the young master regardless of their relationship.

UR (圣)

The highest rarity of summons in the game. They are represented by a red background in summoning and icons.
    Peking Duck - Heaven's Might

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/48899ef2_cf64_4d35_9f69_519c82e58fe6.png

Cuisine: Beijing (京)
Class: Anti-Heal
Other Names:
Voiced by: Su Shangqing (CN)

  • Alternate Self: This is a version of Peking Duck where he just came into existence but already had to handle great responsibility of an emperor, thus he has a more solemn personality. It’s represented by his outfit, which is mainly black in contrast to the SSR version’s white.
  • Version-Exclusive Content: So far he’s only available in the Chinese version.

Material

    Seasoning

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/f08329cf_3612_4ac7_8079_9549571aa624.png

Cuisine: Common (普)
Class: Material
Other Names:
Voiced by: Lao Tie (CN), Wakura Yayoi (JP), Kayli Mills (EN)

A material to ascend all Food Spirits. He became a Food Spirit during one of Envoy of Five Flavors' experiments, and thus is pretty much a toddler in a giant jar.

  • Baby Talk: Since he’s just a toddler, he can’t form complicated sentences, and only makes sounds and uses short words to communicate.
  • Child Prodigy: As a result of the Envoys’ experiment, he has inherited their acuity of taste and can enhance the flavors of any dish with great culinary genius.
  • Fairy in a Bottle: He’s always in a jar, just like how people usually treat condiments. One can say the jar is his cradle.
  • Joke Character: Because his primary purpose is to be a material for ascending Food Spirits without an extra copy of themselves, Seasoning isn’t expected to be used for fighting. While he can be brought into battle, he has extremely low stats and cannot deal any damage, and all three of his skills are just the same thing: healing. His skillset also doesn’t have any improvement upon ascending.
  • Mechanically Unusual Fighter: Due to his status as a Material, although technically playable, some game mechanics are done differently when he’s concerned. He isn’t obtainable from the gacha, and his keepsakes aren’t included in situations that would give the player normal character’s keepsakes, such as daily missions or Food Soul Search. In term of the amount of interludes he has and keepsakes required to summon him, he’s equal to a Rare unit.

    The Young Master

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/f9cd9247_6ee2_452a_b29a_5e38f9d746be.jpeg
Male and Female Young Master

The player character. They’re the child of Yizhi, Deputy Food Deity, who's been managing the residents of Kongsang in their father's absence.

  • Back from the Dead: They get killed once in the Kong’s Mansion by Yi Ya. The next arc sees a group of food spirits travel to the afterlife to retrieve their soul in order to revive them. Thanks to Taichi Taro Paste’s foresight and other circumstances, the young master successfully comes back to life.
  • Badass Bookworm: They have a lot of knowledge about culinary arts along with related fields and are considerably well-versed in Confucianism to the point of impressing Eight Immortals in their first conversation, while also physically trained enough to fight on their own should there be a need to.
  • Beleaguered Boss: Having a bunch of Pretty Boys with all sorts of eccentricities under your management isn’t exactly the most leisure position, especially when you also have a restaurant to run and heavenly duties to attend to, and said pretty boys have a tendency to screw things up. When informed that Suckling Pig Roast destroyed the restaurant again, they exasperatedly want to find a way to terminate contracts with Food Spirits, and when Sweet Lotus Seed talks about how he will freeze himself to avoid being annoyed by Sweetsour Whitebait, the young master asks to be frozen too.
  • Benevolent Boss: They treat the Food Spirits like a second family, always cater to their best interests, and are very protective of them. Their trust in the Food Spirits is so great that they felt angry when the Envoys of Five Flavors accused Hu-Geng of betraying Kongsang and rebuke Ku Wu about how the contract itself isn’t the thing that binds the Food Spirits to Kongsang, but rather the bond they share as "cuisines" and "a place that preserves and respects cuisines".
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Though they usually avoid conflict and leave the combat to the Food Spirits, when the situation really comes down to it they have no hesitation to pick up a gun and shoot Yi Ya to the point he is forced to retreat immediately, as shown near the end of Chapter 2. They can also get quite violent when the Food Spirits are bothered or hurt in any way, having punched a man for flirting with Buddha’s Temptation and beaten Yi Ya to the point of breaking his bones after he forced Hu-Geng to make a Sadistic Choice.
  • Big Brother Instinct: They act like a big sibling figure to child-like Food Spirits, even though the latter are technically centuries older than them.
  • Child of Two Worlds: They’re the child of the Food Deity and a human woman, as such their spiritual power is rather low for someone who will soon rule over the paradise of food.
  • Crazy-Prepared: In Chapter 8, they came to the Kong's Mansion with a Universal Formation prepared beforehand. This allows them to immediately call for reinforcements from Kongsang once the situation gets too dangerous for just three Food Spirits to handle. Even Harbin Fried Pork didn’t expect them to foresee things this far.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Nice Guy as they’re, they are usually exasperated by the Food Spirits’ antics and blurt out some snarks in protest. For example, when they meet Harbin Fried Pork again in Chapter 7’s epilogue, their conversation borders on Snark-to-Snark Combat as the young master unhesitatingly points out that his Training from Hell and sharp tongue makes it impossible for them to forget him.
  • Divine Parentage: They’re a demigod on the courtesy of their Food God father, though their body barely counts as one. In Chapter 10, it’s revealed that their mother is the reincarnation of a goddess, making them a full god in human flesh.
  • Expecting Someone Taller: Su Qing expresses surprise when she sees the young master since according to the rumors she heard, they’re a burly, eight-feet-tall individual with three heads, six arms, sharps fangs, and ferocious face who is capable of "devouring a thousand bowls of rice a day" and "crushing a dragon with a single punch". Though it’s unclear how much of the above description is just joking, she does mention that the young master looks cuter than she expected from someone who has resolved countless crises across the Three Realms.
  • Forced Transformation: They get turned into a cat in the New Year event courtesy of Sū Qīng.
  • Forgotten First Meeting: The kid held as a hostage by Boneless Carp in his backstory was actually the young master, which they didn’t realize until much later. In their memory, Boneless Carp was just a "big brother" who saved them from the human traffickers when they were separated from their father in the restaurant fire.
  • Guile Hero: Whether it is fighting the villains or inviting Food Spirits back to Kongsang, the young master has been utilizing their wits and social skills in a way befitting a future leader.
    • In Chapter 4, after Madam Song mysteriously disappeared, the young master guessed that she may have been kidnapped by Yi Ya in order to force West Lake Fish to join the Realm of Melanya, so they discussed with Dongpo Pork beforehand to find and rescue her in secret. Things go as they expected, and they put on an act about letting West Lake Fish leave for the Realm of Melanya to lower Yi Ya’s guard and ensure the rescue operation is a success.
  • Hello, [Insert Name Here]: The young master's name is input by the player, and voiced dialogues avoid saying their name.
  • Identity Amnesia: They lost their memory after Lady Meng made them drink Meng Po tea, and was made to believed that they were a servant of Meng Po Tea named Lycoris instead.
  • In the Back: They were killed by Yi Ya with a stab in the heart from behind, but not before teleporting everyone away.
  • Lineage Comes from the Father: Their demigod status and position in Kongsang all come from their father, while their mother is merely a human. Subverted when their mother’s true identity is revealed though.
  • Master of None: Thanks to being under the education of the Food Spirits in Kongsang, while they don't really excel at anything, their skillset ranges widely from music, chess, poetry, drawing, tea ceremony to combat, gambling and even lock picking.
  • Nice Guy: Though they can be sassy depending on the dialogue choice, the young master is ultimately a kindhearted person who cares for every Food Spirit in Kongsang and always extend their hands to anyone in need.
  • Power Incontinence: After regaining their memory, the young master inexplicably loses control of their spiritual power and wreck havoc in the Underworld Office by controlling the ghouls and summoning meteors. Lady Meng explains to them afterwards that because their divine spiritual power was too much for their human body, Yizhi had to put a seal on them to protect them, and it caused an outburst when the seal was lifted.
  • Purely Aesthetic Gender: The young master's gender has no bearings on the plot; it only leads to minor changes in story dialogue and stills, and in the Japanese build, their first-person pronoun.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Seeing Hu-Geng be forced to kill his own brother just to protect the young master once again, combined with the realization that Hu-Geng has been suffering all this time because of Yi Ya’s scheme, fills them with so much rage that the moment they’re released, they literally break Yi Ya’s arm and crack a couple of his ribs in pure rage.
  • Running Gag: It’s very common for them to be in jail or at least held captive in the event stories, to the point they get used to it. The Loulan Inception event even starts with them being put in prison.
  • Sadistic Choice: At the start of the game, they were forced to choose between letting all the Food Spirits in Kongsang be corrupted into Food Demons or personally destroying the "Tales of Food", which would send them back to the era they originated from and erase all the memories they have in Kongsang. In order to save everyone from the corruption, the young master chose the latter, but it pained them greatly as the Food Spirits have been like a family to them growing up.
  • Sins of Our Fathers: Peng Keng wants to have the young master killed for being the result of their father’s "betrayal" to him and the goddess Yaoji, even though the young master didn't even know such a story existed until recently.
  • Stronger Than They Look: They have an unassuming figure and tend to let the Food Spirits do the fighting, which hides the fact that they can carry a man larger than themself while running for 2 kilometers and actually break a grown man’s bones barehanded if they want to. This is all attributed to Harbin Fried Pork’s Training from Hell.
  • Supreme Chef: Comes with being the heir of the Food God. Their cooking ability has resulted in surprise and awe whenever they display it during their journey, mainly because people didn’t expect such skill from someone who look that young.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: While the nature of their words were innocent, positive and never meant to be taken the way Boneless Carp did, the young master was nonetheless the one who gave Boneless Carp the idea about "a world of fairness", causing him to pursue his interpretation of it fervently and leading to the event of Loulan Inception.
  • Vague Age: While it’s easy to assume that the young master is underage since they’re commonly referred to as a "child" and aren’t allowed to drink, they are constantly surrounded by Food Spirits and heavenly beings who have lived for centuries at least, so it may have been a time dissonance that causes the young master to be perceived as younger than they actually are. Since the incident between Hu-Geng and his brother is established to occur 20 years ago when the young master was only a few days old, they are definitely an adult and implied to be around 20-year-old currently.
  • You Remind Me of X: Upon direct meeting, Candied Gingko Nut comments that the young master remind him of Yizhi, allowing him to recognize them as his child.
  • Young and in Charge: While they are very young compared to the Empyrean’s standard, they have lead Kongsang in their father’s place for quite some time and is regarded as an adequate successor to him by almost everyone.

    Yizhi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ba2ed66a_4636_4158_af49_4dbc33053924.png

One of the four great chefs during ancient times, the current Food God, and Master of Kongsang. He’s the father of the young master.

  • Benevolent Boss: He gives the Food Spirits of Kongsang a "home" to spend their existence without fear of being forgotten and disappear, and in return he’s well-loved by them.
  • Coat Cape: He wears his Badass Longcoat this way to show his authority as a god.
  • Deity of Human Origin: Yizhi was once a human chef, but was so good at his job that he got to serve in the Empyrean after finishing his mortal life and then won the election to become the Food God.
  • Determinator: When Yaoji disappeared, Yizhi searched through the realms for her and finally found a lead from her memory as a bird, which was preserved in the Hall of Memory deep in the Underworld Office. They reunited in the 21st century with Yaoji having been demoted to a mortal.
  • Disappeared Dad: He’s nowhere to be seen for the first seven chapters, and only starts to appear in the epilogue of Chapter 8.
  • Food God: His role in the Empyrean after receiving "the Way of Food" to help the mortal world - at the time suffering, and he created Kongsang to provide both a safe home for Food Spirits as they won’t have to worry about being forgotten and disappearing now that they’re in a contract with the Food God, and a great culinary experience for the people of all realms and eras through the Kongsang Restaurant.
  • God's Hands Are Tied: He can’t interfere directly when the young master is trapped in the Underworld Office exactly because he’s a god. If he were seen bringing the young master back from death, he would be considered as violating the balance of the Three Realms and stripped of everything he has, from his divinity to Kongsang itself.
  • Gone Horribly Wrong: He became a Disappeared Dad and made the young master handle most of Kongsang’s affairs by themself so that they can be ready to inherit his title in the future. This however got them killed in the Kong’s Mansion incident and Yizhi blames himself for it as he tries to personally go to the Underworld Office to get their soul back.
  • Happily Married: He went on a very long holiday with his wife during the main story to make up for the time they were separated by her disappearance, and leaves the matters of Kongsang’s Spring Festival to the young master since they’re touring the mortal realm together in Snow of Fortune.
  • In the Hood: His appearances before the end of Chapter 10 show him in his disguise with a hood hiding his face. It somehow hides his beard and his Hunk physique too.
  • Mistaken for Cheating: Peng Keng and the Realm of Melanya portray Yizhi as an ungrateful man who charmed the goddess Yaoji to get her assistance for the contest and then dumped her for a mortal woman after he became the Food God. That mortal woman is actually Yaoji herself who reincarnated into a human after unfortunate circumstances.
  • Mysterious Protector: Since the start of the story, though he didn’t show up directly, he has protected the young master several times: he carried them out when they were trapped in the burning Ju Chun Court, left behind a Universal Formation to teleport them away when they fell off a cliff in Huizhou, and was the one who guided Buddha’s Temptation’s crew to where the young master was imprisoned in the Realm of Melanya.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: His child was killed at the end of Chapter 8, though averted once they are Back from the Dead.
  • Papa Wolf: He almost risked his own deity title and the entirety of Kongsang to bring his child back from the Underworld Office, and only stopped once Taichi Taro Paste talked some sense into him.
  • Parents as People: He loves his child unconditionally, but is willing to let them go through live-threatening hardships to prepare them for inheriting his title in the future. That said, he is always there to rescue them whenever the situation gets out of control…until the Kong’s Mansion incident, where things escalated beyond what he expected and the young master was killed.
  • Scarf of Asskicking: His scarf makes his getup even more impressive and befitting a god.
  • Supreme Chef: Good enough to literally ascend to heaven for it, and in there he became a chef serving the Heavenly Emperor himself before rising above all chefs to become a Food God.

    Ji (SPOILERS UNMARKED

Yao Ji

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/45fb8cd7_4ddd_4a25_9eb9_94f79508e267.png

Wife of the Food Deity Yizhi and the young master’s mother. She’s the reincarnation of the goddess Yaoji who lost her divinity after an incident with Peng Keng.

  • And I Must Scream: Yaoji spent her first reincarnation stuck in the form of a bird that hopelessly tried to return to the Empyrean until death.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Though she made her first appearance in Snow of Fortune, Yao Ji has actually been in the game since the start: a picture of her is on the tablet pc in the young master’s Study. Her previous incarnation Yaoji is also mentioned several times.
  • Forced Transformation: Since she didn’t actually die and still kept her memory, Yaoji’s first reincarnation into a bird would be this.
  • Good Samaritan: In Snow of Fortune, she’s heard helping a bullied old lady by asking the bully to apologize…with the sword she took from Yizhi. Yizhi’s reaction implies that this is typical of her.
  • Happily Married: She went on a very long holiday with her husband during the main story to make up for the time they were separated by her disappearance, and leaves the matters of Kongsang’s Spring Festival to the young master since they’re touring the mortal realm together in Snow of Fortune.
  • Interface Spoiler: Inverted; In the Snow of Fortune event released before Chapter 9 and 10, her name was only listed as "Ji", as revealing her full name "Yao Ji" would be spoiler for her true identity.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: Her child was killed at the end of Chapter 8, though averted once they are Back from the Dead.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Yaoji tried to prevent her friend Peng Keng from making the fatal mistake of erasing his name from the Book of Life and Death and violating the rule of the Three Realms, but she was pushed into the Well of Reincarnation during the struggle. This led to her And I Must Scream situation, as well as making her and Yizhi Star-Crossed Lovers for hundreds of years.
  • Reincarnation: She’s the 21st century reincarnation of goddess Yaoji, daughter of the Yan Emperor who helped out with the Food Good selections under the instructions of Nuwa and fell in love with Yizhi during that time. Before that, Yaoji was forcefully reincarnated into a bird after being pushed into the Well of Reincarnation.
  • Wowing Cthulhu: Lu Wu remarks that she’s the only mortal who didn’t fear him and even helped her husband tame and bring Lu Wu to Kongsang, thus to him she’s very unique.

    Lu Wu

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/6f022a43_7d7a_4e29_bdec_1cd82e1f1ce0.png
Guardian Angel of Kongsang
True form

The legendary mystical beast hailed as the "Nine-tailed Tiger", now takes the form of an overweight family cat. He lived on Kunlun Mountain until Yizhi brought him to Kongsang.

  • Big Damn Hero: In Chapter 7, when they’re cornered by Food Spirits affiliated with the Realm of Melanya, he transforms back into his celestial beast form to carry the young master and their associates out of the place safely.
  • Big Eater: His excuse for not being at Kongsang on the day Taotie attacked was that there was a banquet in Empyrean that day, to the young master’s exasperation. He also tends to ask for food as reward for everything he does.
  • Butt-Monkey: Because he’s a lazy Big Eater with some Casanova Wannabe tendencies, it’s guaranteed that any misfortune he encounters is going to be funny. Even though the Food Spirits are technically below him in Kongsang’s hierarchy, most of them throw jabs at him without reservations (while still calling him "Lord Lu Wu") and use him as the delivery guy for their messages and gifts to the young master, causing him to complain constantly.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: He may be the Butt-Monkey, but is also a powerful celestial beast and the former Lord of Kunlun Mountain - a position now held by Tower of Delicacy who also shows great respect for him. When the situation calls for it, he can really save the day.
  • Maneki Neko: When Kongsang Restaurant enters "Peak Hour", Lu Wu, who usually lays at the restaurant’s door, will get up and assume this pose to signify the great fortune the player is about to earn.
  • Mascot: The closest one for the game itself.
  • Panthera Awesome: His true form is a huge tiger with flowy golden fur, fiery ears and feather wings that looks as majestic as a celestial beast should be. It can be difficult to see that this is the same creature to the chubby cat we have at home.
  • Sleep-Mode Size: He is supposed to be a tiger-like beast, but now stays in the form of a cat - an overweight cat to boost.
  • Talking Animal: Though he’s animal in both forms, he can talk normally. The only time this is pointed out is by Dish of Prosperity, as they’re in the mortal realm and Dish of Prosperity has never been to Kongsang before.
  • Team Pet: Acts as this for the staffs of Kongsang.

    Gan Ling Long

  • Girlish Pigtails: Wears her hair in low twintails to show her innocent and girly charm.
  • Light Feminine and Dark Feminine: She’s the Light to Xin'yan’s Dark - her theme color is pink, her beauty is on the cute side, and her personality is cheerful and childish.
  • Rose-Haired Sweetie: She has pink hair and is an adorable, bubbly girl who represents "sweetness".

    Xin Yi

One of the Kongsang Office's Envoy of Five Flavors, the embodiment of "Spiciness".

  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: He’s said to be aloof and keeps a three-meter distance with everyone, but opens up with those who love spiciness.
  • Unaffected by Spice: Befitting the embodiment of "Spiciness", he has quite a skewed perspective on a tolerable amount of spice and considers eating 5kg of chilies a much lighter punishment to whatever the Empyrean would have given the young master.

    Xin'yan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/b1fbd67c_ca02_49c2_b8d7_64b4795b0f29.png

One of the Kongsang Office's Envoy of Five Flavors, the embodiment of "Saltiness".

  • Beware the Nice Ones: Although she tries to maintain her image as an understanding and gentle lady, she's often unable to hide her true self which has an imposing and much scarier demeanor.
  • Buxom Beauty Standard: Lu Wu certainly thinks so when his first interaction with her is smacking her chests. She’s also featured on the cover of the "Beauty Magazine" item which is Chili Oil Chicken’s favorite gift.
  • Hot Librarian: Though she’s more of a manager, she still has the aesthetics due to her glasses, loose hair bun, long dress and the fact that she’s holding a book and a quill.
  • Light Feminine and Dark Feminine: She’s the Dark to Gan Ling Long‘s Light - her theme color is purple, her beauty is on the mature and sexy side, and her personality is gentle and big sister-like with a dark side hidden beneath.
  • Pervert Revenge Mode: When Lu Wu smacks her on the chest under the excuse of flicking off biscuit crumbs, everyone in the room steps backwards as she…does something to him, with only his screams visible.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: She’s described as the most learned member of the Five Envoys, and is the only one with glasses.

  • Apologetic Attacker: Before he knocks Spring Roll unconscious, he seems unhappy and apologizes to the boy, though it’s unclear if this is genuine.
  • Eyes Always Shut: His eyes never seem to be opened, which contributes further to his sketchy impression.
  • The Gadfly: He always manages to trigger conflict while keeping himself out of trouble, and seems to enjoy it.
  • The Mole: He's in cahoots with Kū Wú above.
  • Perpetual Smiler: It’s mentioned that he always has a smile on his lips.

Realm of Melanya

Master of the Realm of Melanya

As his title implies, he’s supposedly the Master of the Realm of Melanya and attacks Kongsang in the prologue.

  • Malevolent Masked Man: He wears mask and immediately shows himself to not be a friendly presence for Kongsang.
  • Neck Lift: Did this to Yangzhou Rice in his first appearance.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Even with his mask on, his red eyes are still prominent and mark him as a dangerous opponent.
  • Walking Spoiler: Given that he is the same person as Kū Wú, part of Kòngsāng staff.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/3835a708_f6e4_41fc_9b58_5afbc04d3d53.png

Other Names: Chef Lu
Voiced by:

The true Master of the Realm of Melanya. One of the four great chefs during ancient times, the pioneer of the Qin Taoist Family, and the grandmaster of health and longevity. An old friend of Yizhi who once competed with him for the Food God position, but now turns bitter and wishes destruction upon Kongsang for reasons. He’s the creator of Yipin Pot and Zhi-Geng.

  • Affably Evil: He generally maintains a calm and polite demeanor to those around him, as his appearance in Chapter 5 can attest, unless he knows they’re from Kongsang or when the other person pissed him off big times like what Yi Ya did.
  • Delicate and Sickly: In Chapter 8, he’s shown to be coughing constantly, as Zhi-Geng expresses worries about his health. The way he consoles Zhi-Geng by saying "I won’t die" implies that he must have been ill enough for someone to think death is a possible conclusion.
  • The Dog Was the Mastermind: He first appeared in Huizhou as guest of Lady Yu and the true creator of Yipin Pot who was friendly towards the young master, with only his Wham Line at the end of the chapter indicates that he has more than he looks.
  • Evil Former Friend: He used to be best friend with Yizhi, before various things happened that tore them apart. Now he leads the Realm of Melanya and is dead set on usurping Yizhi, no matter the method.
  • Fair-Play Villain: When it comes to the upcoming Food God selection, Peng Keng has no intention to sabotage either Yizhi or the young master, since he believes that Yizhi played dirty in the previous selection and tries not to become a Hypocrite by winning with his own ability. All the things he has done to Kongsang so far are just for revenge.
Peng Keng: "Also, Yi Ya, don't do anything unnecessary. I want to defeat him fair and square! Otherwise, there's no meaning..."
  • Hypocrite: He berates and wants to take revenge on Yizhi because of his betrayal of Goddess Yaoji. Not only is that untrue, if one person were to be named for betraying Yaoji, it would be Peng Keng himself who pushed her into the Well of Reincarnation and indirectly killed her.
  • Long-Haired Pretty Boy: He’s such a beautiful man with his long, glossy black hair that the young master mistakes him for a lady from behind, and only realizes their wrong when he turns back.
  • Pet the Dog: Although he wants to usurp Yizhi as the Food God, he genuinely values Food Spirits who serve him. He’s pissed the hell off when he learns that Yi Ya lied to him about Zhi-Geng’s death and used his name to imprison Zhi-Geng for 20 years without his knowledge, which he would never do.
  • Sore Loser: He couldn’t accept losing both the Food God title and goddess Yaoji to Yizhi, so he blames Yizhi for playing dirty and utilizes drastic measures to get his revenge.
  • Would Hurt a Child: He ordered Zhi-Geng to assassinate Yizhi’s child, an infant who was just a few days old, as he believed they were the result of Yizhi’s betrayal to him and Goddess Yaoji.

    Yi Ya

Voiced by: Yán Míng (CN), Minoru Shiraishi (JP)
The head steward of the Realm of Melanya, and the main antagonist. He seeks to steal the throne from the absent Food Deity for his master, destroying Kongsang in the process and manipulating other spirits to join him to get what he wants.
  • Big Bad: He's the most proactive villain in the game, with the most screen time and commits the majority of on-screen villainy.
  • The Dragon: Despite his prominence, he's not the ruler of Melanya, but the right-hand man.
  • Dragon with an Agenda: His loyalty never lies with Peng Keng, and he’s working behind the latter’s back with Ku Wu for a greater plan.
  • The Heavy: He causes most of the troubles in the story thus far, even going as far as to blackmail Hu-Geng to do as he says behind the young master's back, using Hu-Geng's brother as a bargaining chip.
  • Historical Hero Upgrade: While not heroic by any means, his deeds are not quite as horrific as that of the real Yì Yá, who cooked his own son and served him to his lord.

Green Hills

    Su Qing

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/59c3f7f2_92de_46e3_993f_bd2c635a1c4d.png

Ruler of the Green Hills and descendant of the nine-tailed foxes.

  • Badass Adorable: Looks like a fashionable and cute young woman, and is powerful enough to create an entire new "realm" in the crevice between Three Realms by herself. It takes a lot of planning and combined efforts between Tusu Wine and Tower of Delicacy to remotely incapacitate her.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: She's the actual villain of the Snow of Fortune event story, being the one behind the tourists missing case as she transformed them into animal-like demons to make them her "family" and almost got her hand on the young master as well. She’s a Tragic Villain though and has her Heel–Face Turn later.
  • Cool Chair: Always accompanied by her floating throne, which serves as a reminder that she’s indeed the ruler of a realm.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: She lost her family thousands of years ago in a war that shouldn’t have involved the Green Hills since it was originally aimed at Kongsang, but the Green Hills defended Kongsang as an ally and got destroyed in the process.
  • Forced Transformation: She has been kidnapping and transforming unsuspecting travelers into harmless animal-like demons so that she can keep them with her without resistance or suspicion.
  • Foxy Vixen: As expected from a descendant of the nine-tailed foxes, she’s very beautiful and charismatic, and her attire even gives us a gratuitous view of her legs and thighs, along with a peek of her hips.
  • Girls Love Stuffed Animals: She always has a stuffed toy version of Nian with her, even into battle.
  • God Save Us from the Queen!: Not for the people of the Green Hills, with whom she’s The High Queen, but the tourists from other worlds. She essentially transformed them into animals, kept them captive in an underground prison of some sort, and treats them like pets in a twisted display of familial love.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: She holds grudges against Kongsang for surviving the war originally aimed at it while the Green Hills was destroyed in its place. As such, she also harbors a deep jealousy towards the young master, declaring that she wants everything that belongs to them including the fatherly and motherly love they have, and tries to get them by making the young master her "family".
  • Heel–Face Turn: She begins to get a sense that what she has been doing is wrong after being criticized by Tusu Wine, but only snaps out of her blind pursuit of a "family" later once she realizes how important Nian is to her as he got himself critically injured fighting for her cause. She calms down from her One-Winged Angel mode and begs the young master to save Nian, accepting that in return she will turn all of her victims back into human. Afterwards, she makes peace with the young master and Kongsang, and they celebrate New Year together.
  • The High Queen: She’s very respected by the people of the Green Hills for rebuilding the realm after it was devastated by a war not of its fault with her strength alone, and even turning it into a bustling tourist city among the realms.
  • Little Bit Beastly: She has prominent fox ears, though her tail is nowhere to be seen.
  • Modest Royalty: She dresses in a very casual and modern outfit, causing the young master to be unable to recognize her as the ruler of the Green Hills when they first meet.
  • One-Winged Angel: Her boss appearance features nine transparent fox tails as she taps into more of her true power, destroying Tusu Wine’s vines that previously held her back in a matter of seconds. She’s also powered by rage immediately afterwards, allowing her to almost kill the young master on the spot if Tusu Wine didn’t take the bullet and Tower of Delicacy didn’t lure her away while Tusu Wine was vulnerable.
  • Pet the Dog: While the familial "love" she gives to her victims is twisted, her affection for Nian is genuine and to her, he’s as important as a family. Unfortunately, she realizes this a little too late.
  • Rapid-Fire "Shut Up!": She desperately screams at Tusu Wine to shut up when he begins to unveil the truth that her family died thousands of years ago.
  • Sole Survivor: Tusu Wine calls her the "only one Nine-tail Fox in this world", implying that not just her family, but her entire race died in the war.
  • Stepford Smiler: She appears to be a cheerful, fun-loving and charming queen, but in reality she’s incredibly lonely and unable to move on from her family’s death, thus she has done everything in her capability to fill in the hollowness - from doing every single festive custom to kidnapping tourists and turning them into demons.
  • Walking Spoiler: It can be difficult to talk about her role in the Snow of Fortune event without spoiling too much.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: She wants a family, but hers was killed in the war that destroyed the Green Hills. Filled with grudge, jealousy and loneliness, she was unable to move on for thousands of years and utilized drastic measures out of the belief that having a "family" that never leaves her can help her feel happiness again.

    Nian

Su Qing’s guardian. He’s derived from the beast Nian of Chinese Mythology.

  • Affectionate Nickname: Su Qing always refers to him as "Floofball", showing that she views him as an innocent and kind fellow instead of the monster he seems to be.
  • Face of a Thug: He was born with an intimidating appearance, causing mortals to mistake him for a man-eating monster and chase him away even though he saved them from the real threat. He’s actually a tender, kindhearted guy who loves mortals and would cry when accused of eating them.
  • Fluffy the Terrible: Su Qing calls this towering, bulky demon with Face of a Thug "Floofball".
  • Misplaced Retribution: In order to save the mortals from the Sui - a type of demon that cause havoc on Spring Festival's Eve by making children lose their intelligence, Nian would go to the mortal realm every year to chase the Sui away. However, his appearance ended up turning him into the scapegoat and he’s always scared away with firecrackers.
  • My Master, Right or Wrong: He straightforwardly admits that he doesn’t know what is wrong and what is right, and all he knows is he will give Su Qing everything she wants and listen to everything she says.
  • Terse Talker: Talks in this manner.

Underworld Office (Spoilers unmarked for Chapter 8, 9, 10)

    Yama

The ruler of the Underworld Office.

  • God of the Dead: As the ruler of the Underworld Office, she naturally is this.
  • Heel Realization: After Meng Po admits to her why she refuses to return to the Empyrean, Yama realizes that she has been obnoxious and inconsiderate to Meng Po despite believing the contrary. She makes up for it by transferring the right to "punish" the young master to Meng Po and allowing them to be Back from the Dead per Meng Po’s request.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: She dotes on Meng Po unconditionally, to the point others pick up on it, and doesn’t hesitate to express her affection for Meng Po with both words and actions. Her urging Meng Po to go back to the Empyrean stems from her worry that Meng Po would soon lose the ability to return there and be stuck in the Underworld Office forever.
  • Historical Gender Flip: Her historical counterpart is King Yan/King Yama, who is male.
  • Not So Above It All: She doesn’t want Kongsang to disappear because it means the three realms wouldn’t be able to get good food. Quite unexpected from the God of the Dead.
  • Innocently Insensitive: She has perfectly good intention when repeatedly asking Meng Po to return to the Empyrean, but fails to consider why Meng Po always refuses. As such, she comes off as inconsiderate and forcing what she thinks is best on Meng Po when it actually isn’t.
  • Sarcasm-Blind: When asked if she has enough of everything at the manor, Meng Po complains that she’s running out of storage room because Yama gives her too many stuffs. Yama however misunderstands it and thinks that Meng Po needs more storage space, so she promises to have someone build another later, to Meng Po’s exasperation.
  • She Is the King: She’s referred to as "Lord Yama" even though she’s a woman.
  • Stoic Spectacles: She wears glasses and is normally an Iron Lady.
  • To Be Lawful or Good: Yama is in quite a tough spot when dealing with the young master: they’re the child of her friend who died young yet wasn’t supposed to die, are protected by her Heterosexual Life-Partner and one of her most loyal subordinates, and they wrecked the Underworld Office because of Power Incontinence rather than an intentional act of offense. She initially chooses to be lawful and bring her army to detain and punish the young master as the damage has already been done, but is later convinced to lessen the punishment.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: While Yama is a strict upholder of the Underworld Office’s rules and order, she is willing to listen and makes exceptions, as shown by how she handled the young master’s case.

    Meng Po
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/8f55998b_fa73_4438_98bb_636527d0af42.png

The owner of the Mengpo's Manor, the goddess who governs memory and forgetfulness. She created Meng Po Tea and became his "mother".

  • Broken Angel: According to myth, Meng Po was a goddess of the Empyrean who descended upon the Underworld Office to make and distribute Meng Po tea so that the mortals would no longer suffer, and made a willful promise with Yama that she would never leave the Underworld Office when Yama didn’t allow her to make the tea. However, the long stay has proven to be detrimental to her body and she’s gradually losing her divine power, which will prevent her from returning to the Empyrean. In a rare twist, she actually prefers it that way.
  • Delicate and Sickly: She is slender and fragile, and needs to be carried by two little ghosts wherever she goes. She even has difficulty with reaching a shelf on her own.
  • Flower Motif: She adorns her hair with spider lilies and has spider lily tattoos. Her manor is also surrounded by a field of these flowers.
  • Fountain of Youth: Meng Po’s body regressed back to that of a young girl because she’s losing her divine power from staying in the Underworld Office.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: Despite how frustrated she was with Yama’s insistence on making her return to the Empyrean, Meng Po sees Yama as her Only Friend and Yama alone is enough to make her want to stay in the Underworld Office forever, even when the living conditions there cannot be compared to the life she once had in the Empyrean.
  • I Choose to Stay: She insists on staying in the Underworld Office forever, even at the cost of losing her privileges as a goddess of the Empyrean, since she wants to be with her Only Friend and also to pass the chance to leave the Underworld Office to her son.
  • Mum Looks Like a Sister: She has the appearance of a young lady and looks no older than her "son". This is a combination of her being Older Than They Look and Meng Po Tea not being her biological child, instead only a dish of her creation that came to life.
  • The Night Owl: As a resident of the Underworld Office, she’s active at night and sleeps during daytime. When Yama summons her in the morning, she complains and implies that her beauty sleep has been disturbed.
  • Older Than They Look: The young master is surprised to hear that she’s Meng Po Tea’s mother, to which she clarifies that she’s well over a thousand years old.
  • Parents as People: She loves Meng Po Tea dearly, looks out for his future, and does her best to make him leave the Underworld Office because she can’t bear seeing him spend his entire existence in such a place and treated as an unfeeling monster forever. For this goal however, she does take advantage of the young master and utilize some emotional manipulations on Meng Po Tea to discourage him from following her path.
  • Proper Lady: She’s frequently described as graceful, mature and having the domineering aura of a head of a manor at the same time.
  • Screw the Rules, I Make Them!: When Meng Po Tea states that there’s no rule in the Underworld Office that says only the master of the Mengpo's Manor can make the tea, Meng Po rebukes that the rule applies to the manor and she made it.
  • Truly Single Parent: She created Meng Po tea the dish, then it gained a soul and turned into the Food Spirit she now treats as her son.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: She made the young master drink Meng Po tea and become a servant for her son, along with imprisoning the Food Spirits that came to rescue them, for her plan to make Meng Po Tea leave the Underworld Office: once the two of them develop a bond and the young master manages to return to Kongsang, Meng Po Tea would want to follow them.

    Black and White Impermanence

Black Reaper and White Reaper

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/36effc54_a361_47bf_9a1a_5ceb4c028234.jpeg
Black Reaper (left) and White Reaper (right)

The infamous ghost messengers duo of the Underworld Office.

  • Badass Adorable: The young master is surprised that the infamous ghost messengers of the Underworld Office are two adorable kids, but quickly snaps back to reality and reminds themself that underestimating those two would be a mistake. True to their fear, the Black and White Impermanence fully have the power to enable their sadistic and brutal tendencies.
  • Blood Knight: They refer to the young master as a "toy" and express how fun it is to chase and capture them, as if it were merely a game.
  • Flash Step: Utilizes this when chasing the young master in their first encounter.
  • Kids Are Cruel: After being offended by the young master’s retort about Meng Po Tea, Black and White Impermanence push the young master into a huge pit, laugh at them, and then just leave them in there without thinking about how they will be able to get out. Granted, they may think that the young master can just fly out like other souls when they actually can’t, but quite a jerk move nonetheless.

The Four Seas

Dragon King of the Eastern Seas

Ao Guang

Exactly What It Says on the Tin, he was the ruler of the Eastern Seas before being succeeded. He’s also the godfather of Shunde Raw Fish.

  • Abdicate the Throne: He willingly steps down and crowns Shunde Raw Fish as the next Dragon King to allow the latter to go all out in his fight with Tiangou.
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": He is usually referred to as just the Dragon King, or "Father" in Shunde Raw Fish‘s case. Only Vermillion Bird calls him by his real name "Ao Guang".
  • Good Parents: He’s quite caring and supportive to his godson, and gives Shunde Raw Fish a rallying speech about how there’s no one more deserving to be the next Dragon King than him when he displays Heroic Self-Deprecation.
  • Historical Hero Upgrade: Ao Guang in Chinese Mythology was described as an evil king before his Heel–Face Turn. It’s unclear if he’s Older and Wiser or just never evil in the first place, but in the game he’s depicted as a peace-loving, wise and humble ruler who puts the world above his benefits.

Cirrus Ether

    Vermillion Bird

The current leader of the Azureans, and in a sense the adoptive father of Hazel Grouse Soup.

  • Blood Knight: He’s described as a combative warrior and almost caused a war to break out between the Oceanids and the Azureans. As such, to him, the pacific Oceanids are "softies who don’t have the guts to step foot into unknown areas".
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: He’s one of the first people to be affected by Tiangou’s Emotion Bomb, which makes him overreact to "Shunde Raw Fish" (actually Hazel Grouse Soup)’s brash attitude and instigate an internal conflict within the alliance.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He’s a Blood Knight who looks down on the Oceanids, but is cordial to the young master and a Parental Substitute for Hazel Grouse Soup even if he hides it beneath a strict facade. After the event of Tiangou, his combativeness is toned down and his niceness becomes more apparent.
  • Parental Substitute: Although he doesn’t officially adopt Hazel Grouse Soup, he still sees the latter as his son. While he may seem strict and harsh towards Hazel Grouse Soup, one part because of Hazel Grouse Soup’s attitude, he actually expresses care and asks Hazel Grouse Soup to tell him if he’s in trouble when he sees him acting out of character (because of the "Freaky Friday" Flip). The conversations he has with the Dragon King and his Azurean Warrior in the Kongsang Restaurant shows that he trusts his son greatly and wants him to learn to be independent and mature during his stay in Kongsang.
  • Super-Empowering: He uses sixty percent of his divine power to fuse "Dragon and Phoenix's Will" for Hazel Grouse Soup to prepare him for the fight with Tiangou.

Others

    Zheng Chufa

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/8b57551f_c9ee_4244_a676_3f98d325244f.png

The creator of Buddha’s Temptation and Gold Chicken Shred. He’s the head chef at the famous Fuzhou restaurant "Ju Chun Court".

  • Despair Event Horizon: When Ju Chun Court is burned down, Zheng Chufa rushes straight into the fire to try to put the fire out, and when that proves futile, he breaks down crying and blames himself for all that happened, before getting up to try again without regards for his own life. The young master has to give him a You Are Better Than You Think You Are speech to calm him down.
  • Fatal Flaw: His insecurity causes him to be very emotionally dependent on Buddha’s Temptation and unable to let the latter leave him in fear of losing whom he believes is the reason behind Ju Chun Court’s success, even though Buddha’s Temptation has stated many times that Ju Chun Court succeeds majorly because of Zheng Chufa‘s own hard works, while his fame only assisted in spreading the restaurant’s name. This makes it easy for Yi Ya to manipulate him.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: Although he has great culinary talents, he lacks confidence in his abilities and contributes most of his restaurant’s success to Buddha’s Temptation.
  • Jerkass Ball: He lashes out at the young master and blames them for the food poisoning after overhearing that Buddha’s Temptation would follow them to Kongsang. He regrets it once he calms down though…until Yi Ya comes and manipulates him.

    Madam Song

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/92697865_aaa9_449e_a77b_70d18dfe1d08.png

The creator of the West Lake Fish. A fisherwoman who remained quite beautiful even at her age, but her life has been in shambles because of it.

  • Damsel in Distress: She was kidnapped by Yi Ya to force West Lake Fish to join the Realm of Melany. Fortunately, the young master sees through it and saves her under Yi Ya’s nose.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: After losing her husband and going through an oppressed, lonely life under the constant threat of being violated by the man who killed the husband, she finally gets to be free and happy once the nobleman’s crimes are exposed with the help of the young master, the Food Spirits and her own brother-in-law - who survived and managed to become an official after fleeing from their hometown and now returning to seek justice for his brother.
  • So Beautiful, It's a Curse: She’s beautiful for her age and status, but it caused a local nobleman to be so smitten with her that he killed her husband to have a chance with her, and his connections with the government meant that she couldn’t get justice for her husband. Her brother-in-law, who had been protecting her, also had to leave the hometown in fear of the nobleman’s revenge, and without West Lake Fish’s protection she may have suffered even more.

    Constable Wang

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/baa89cff_18dc_45ff_a1b6_98bd1d3239a3.png

The creator of Stinky Perch, a constable oppressed by a ruthless governor.

  • Nice Guy: He’s very friendly and pleasant to the young master even though they just met, and never blames Stinky Perch for making him lost. It’s stated in his profile that his natural kindness and amiability will also bring him good luck.

    Lady Yu

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/6ea15a45_707a_4e04_840f_c47c159f5f5c.png

The recorded creator of the Yipin Pot, the wife of the Ming Dynasty Shitai Province minister Bi Qiang.

  • Big Brother Worship: She's very close to her elder brother Guo Yipin, and her dependence on him is compared to a "brother complex".
  • Feminine Women Can Cook: The emperor certainly thinks so when he wants to try her cooking. The truth is that Lady Yu has never cook in all her life, being a sheltered noble lady and all, so she panics as she can’t go against the emperor’s order or have the servants make a dish for her since that would count as deception against the emperor, but she can’t bring shame to the household by admitting her inability or bringing up a terrible dish either. Thankfully, Chef Lu steps in to guide her to make Yipin Pot - a dish of his creation, and allows her to take the full credit.
  • Flowers of Femininity: Her outfit and hair are adorned with flowers, showing her status as a Proper Lady.
  • Nice Girl: Even though the young master and Stinky Perch are two strangers who were literally dropped into her home from the sky, she still treats them like honorable guests and allows them to stay until they can find a way to contact their associates.
  • Proper Lady: She’s a gentle, polite, and educated lady from a distinguished family.

Enemies

    Taotie
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/3d7f3281_b197_4235_96ff_43a98f7a108a.jpeg

An ancient beast of great power that attacked and almost destroyed Kongsang at the beginning of the game.

  • Hopeless Boss Fight: There’s no way for the player to beat Taotie in the prologue, even with an SSR unit their team.
  • Refuge in Audacity: Taotie has been kept underneath Kongsang all this time.

Apex of Phantom

A mysterious museum of treasure at the outskirts of Kongsang, full of precious Utensils that can help Food Spirits get stronger. In order to earn the Utensils, the player will have to defeat the powerful illusion guardians of this place.

    Prince of Dreams

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/3f18b3d6_1a64_40ab_ae47_7611425481e2.png

The guardian of the Water Pavilion in the Apex of Phantom. He specializes in Shields.

  • Berserk Button: His profile mentions that if disturbed while sleeping, he may trap the troublemakers in a dream of his own making in a fit of rage.
  • Cute Oversized Sleeves: He takes the appearance of an adorable young boy with sleeves past his fingers. All he does with his hands is hugging his pillow anyway.
  • Magical Floating Shawl
  • Scratch Damage: Even though by theory, he shouldn’t be able to receive damage once he reaches ten Jade Shields as that would mean he has a 100% DMG Reduction, he will still lose 1 HP for each attack.
  • Sleepyhead: He looks sleepy and holds onto his pillow even in battle.
  • Stone Wall: He generates a Jade Shield that reduces DMG taken by 10% every time he does a normal attack, making him even tougher as time goes on. When he manages to have ten Jade Shields, he’s pretty much immortal.
  • Unblockable Attack: His "Cold Snow" skill attacks all enemies as soon as they enter the battle with a 100% chance to stun them, completely incapacitating the player in the first round while he himself can receive buffs from his mooks - who may be swept by the player’s team otherwise. Only a few characters whose skillset instantly gives them debuff-negating effects are immune to this. Thankfully this can only be used once at the start of battle.
  • Victory by Endurance: His main strategy if his Jade Shields aren’t dispelled: he will steadily deal damage while building up his shields, slowly reducing the damage taken until he all he can receive is Scratch Damage, and then it’s only a matter of time before he sweeps the player’s team which has been weakened enough.
  • Water Is Blue: He guards the Water Pavilion and his color palette is mainly blue.

    Windrider

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/98e847c4_42b0_437c_8fe1_c091724d3681.png

The guardian of the Wind Pavilion in the Apex of Phantom. He specializes in Poison.

  • Ax-Crazy: Said to often loses his sanity as he sees intruders and would attack anyone, including his allies, if it means he can take the enemy down. He’s also extremely obsessed with violence and murder, and loves to watch as the trespassers struggle in the poisonous marsh.
  • Bad Boss: He poisons his own mooks and they’re said to be terrified of him.
  • Damage Over Time: He’s all about stacking Poison on the player’s team.
  • Deadly Gas: It’s mentioned that his winds contain poison, making them a version of this.
  • Keystone Army: When he is defeated, he drags both of his mooks with him regardless of how much HP they still have left.
  • Odd Name Out: His name doesn’t follow the "Prince(ss) of -" theme. This is only applicable for the English translation though, because in the original Chinese he shares the same theme naming with other guardians.
  • Worthy Opponent: One of his battle lines has him declare his opponents as this.

    Prince of Fire

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/2075b41a_06cb_4dd4_92bc_435dc38111b1.png

The guardian of the Fire Pavilion in the Apex of Phantom. He specializes in single-target attacks.

  • Attack Reflector: At the beginning of the battle, he has the DMG Reflect buff that lasts for 10 rounds and can be problematic as the fight goes on if not dispelled.
  • Boss-Only Level: His Pavilion is the only battle without mooks to assist him.
  • Extra Turn: His skill 1 and 3 both allow him to attack one more time after defeating any target.
  • Fiery Stoic: He looks pretty calm and stoic for a Pyromaniac.
  • Playing with Fire: Befitting his title.
  • Pyromaniac: It is said that the sight and sound of everything being consumed by flames excites him.
  • Technicolor Fire: His fire is blue, just like his hair.

    Princess of Soil

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/270db75e_78cb_472a_a0d7_f17ccd0cc291.png

The guardian of the Gaia Pavilion in the Apex of Phantom. She specializes in AoE attack and mooks.

Grove of Harvest

A magical forest with various groves, commanded by Dish of Prosperity. The player can farm Nuts used to Star Up their Food Spirits once they defeated the guardians of the groves.
  • Friendly Enemy: Implied; While not explicitly stated like in the Apex of Phantom, the guardians of the groves’ attitude in battle isn’t as hostile as they should be towards an "intruder". The fact that their master Dish of Prosperity is a Food Spirit under the young master means they don’t have a reason to see the young master as an enemy, and all the fights are just another test of worthiness.
  • Healing Boss: All of them share a skill that deals AoE damage and heals 20% of their HP if the attack got a critical hit on/defeat an opponent.

    Jieshou Cashew

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/70c89eb5_1755_4b81_849a_b4b6dfcfd676.png

The guardian of the Cashew Grove in the Grove of Harvest. He specializes in healing.

  • Achilles' Heel: The Anti-Heal debuff will make fighting him drastically easier, since it directly incapacitates his schtick as a Healing Boss.
  • Dude Looks Like a Lady: He has long hair and eyelashes, and his robe makes him look even more androgynous.
  • Eyes Always Shut: He never opens his eyes, befitting his ethereal demeanor.
  • Healing Boss: He can restore 25% of his own HP every 2 turns, and if his normal attack defeat an enemy, he will be healed too.
  • Healing Loop: He’s a boss that specializes on healing, but can also deal great AoE damage to force the player’s team into healing constantly just like him and neglecting attacking, which will give him the time to outheal your damage ouput and even return to full health.
  • Playing with Fire: He summons fire using Ki Manipulation to attack. His hand fan itself is constantly on fire too.
  • Pointy Ears: His ears show that even though he may look more human compared to his fellow guardians, he’s just as far away from being mortal as them.
  • Wise Old Turtle: He rides a tortoise and is said to be a scholarly man who achieved immortality and knows the secret to everlasting youth.

The guardian of the Hazelnut Grove in the Grove of Harvest. He specializes in attacks that hit harder the longer the battle.

  • Anti-Debuff: His third skill will dispel any debuff he has while also attacking the enemies.
  • Boisterous Bruiser: Has this attitude in battle.
  • Injured Vulnerability: One that applies to his opponent: he deals twice the damage to any opponent with HP below 75%.
  • Unusual Eyebrows: His eyebrows are absurdly long, and may even be longer than his hair.

    Bozhou Walnut

The guardian of the Walnut Grove in the Grove of Harvest. He specializes in Poison and endurance.

  • Perpetual Frowner: He always looks grumpy, and his profile also calls him "unapproachable".
  • Plant Person: His lower body is a tree stump, while his horns and claws resemble tree branches. There’re even walnuts growing on his horns!
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: He’s topless, though as a Plant Person he may have no need to wear clothes.

    Kid of Silver

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cc5aacb1_fc02_4d60_9f91_decdecf31616.png

The guardian of the Almond Grove in the Grove of Harvest. He specializes in high HP and damage resistance.

  • Hero-Worshipper: He’s a passionate fan of Dish of Prosperity and went out of his way to mimic the way his idol dresses and acts, and even changed his name to Kid of Sliver so that their names sound similar. According to his profile, praising Dish of Prosperity in front of him may yield unexpected results.
  • Palette Swap: He’s just a white version of Dish of Prosperity. Justified as he intentionally imitates the latter.
  • Stone Wall: He has disgustingly high HP and it takes many rounds for regular DPS characters to take him down. The ATK Down debuff from his third skill makes the process even longer.

It first appears in the Spring Nimbus event and is treated as a minor boss for later events.

  • Psycho Pink: He’s pink from head to toe, and literally has "Psycho" in his name.

Robo Bunny (Spoilers unmarked for Moonlit Confession)

TG Alpha I

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/891c9ad2_3d45_46a4_8225_e4f4c7a20c6e.png
Ultima Robo-Bunny

A strange Robo-Bunny that is a creation of the Micians, with connections to Crab in Orange. An ally to the young master until the repair of Guanghan Palace is completed, then it steals the core and reveals its true identity: TG Alpha I - creator and master of Crab in Orange in the Micians, the first Mician mechanism with sentience who was eventually abandoned in space after a mission to destroy the Guanghan Palace. As a result, it harbors hatred towards human and wishes to build a paradise for robots on the moon.

It appears in the Moonlit Confession event and serves as the boss for a special Joint Server Stage called "Guanghan Summit". It’s also an occasional guest of Kongsang Restaurant under the name "Mysterious Robo-Bunny".

  • A.I. Is a Crapshoot: Robo-Bunny harbors hatred for humanity after what was done to both it and Crab in Orange in the Micians’ space expansion project, and wishes to build a heaven for mechanical life forms on the rebuilt Guanghan Palace. It even makes living humans animate mechanical arms with their struggle to get revenge for having been treated as a disposable tool.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: It goes along with the young master on their journey to fix the Guanghan Palace and is generally helpful and affable, as much as a robot can anyway, until it turns on everyone by stealing the core and attacking them with a Humongous Mecha, revealing that it’s sentient all along and has a grudge against humanity.
  • Dissonant Laughter: It laughs merrily even though Crab in Orange’s blade is hairs away from the conductor wiring that links it to the hub. It’s because it knows he won’t be able to kill his own creator and master, and that hasn’t even taken their Self-Destruct Mechanism into account.
  • Eating Machine: As a guest of the Kongsang restaurant, it reveals that it’s equipped with the latest bionic systems in the world that allows it to simulate the senses of a human, taste included, and assumingly the digestion too. Hilariously, when it tries human food for the first time, it blankly updates its database that "fuel is the worst food in the world".
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Despite its aggression towards the young master and hatred against humanity, it expresses clearly that it doesn’t want to hurt Crab in Orange, has saved and protected his life not just once, and repeatedly tries to have him at its side. The voice it uses to coax him is described as "persuasive and melancholy with despair", showing that it wants him not merely because he’s convenient for its plan, but also because it still sees him as its student. When Crab in Orange pulls a Better to Die than Be Killed, Robo Bunny screams at him to stop, then immediately leaps in to protect his core and eventually dies with him in the process.
  • Gameplay and Story Segregation: Even though Moonlit Confession is everything but outright states that Robo-Bunny was irreparably destroyed after its Taking the Bullet attempt, it will still appear in Kongsang restaurant as a guest. Though there are implications that it was rebuilt by Crab in Orange once he himself came back to life and joined Kongsang.
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: One of its eyes visibly glows when it reveals its true nature.
  • Humongous Mecha: Rides one as Ultima Robo-Bunny.
  • Mechanical Animals: It is a robot rabbit. However, unlike its fellow Robo-Bunnies, this one has the full sentience of a human.
  • Moon Rabbit
  • No Biological Sex: Since it is a robot in animal form, this happens naturally and everyone refers to Robo Bunny as "it". However, it actually speaks in a distinct tenor voice and in Crab in Orange’s flashback, both him and the Great Lord called it "he", suggesting that it identifies as male. The narration itself from that point on also shifts between using "it" and "he" when referring to Robo-Bunny.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Its eyes are normally brownish, but when it shows its true color, they’re remarked to turn red.
  • Robo Speak: Normally talks like this, befitting a robot. However, it drops this act once its true color and identity is revealed, instead speaking in a way identical to human.
  • Robot Master: It was the one who created Crab in Orange’s cyborg body and taught him to become a Gadgeteer Genius himself.
  • Self-Destruct Mechanism: All robots built by the Micians have one embedded in their core that will activate when the robot attack a member of the Micians, and it is no exception. This may be the pragmatic reason why it doesn’t want to attack Crab in Orange and stops him from doing the same to it - it’s either they both live or die.
  • Shout-Out: It bears some resemblances to the White Rabbit of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, being a half-dressed white rabbit with a High-Class Glass who is seen running in a hurry and (indirectly in Robo-Bunny’s case) leads the main character into the underground, where they start their adventure.
  • Taking the Bullet: It tried to protect Crab in Orange’s core using its body when he destroyed it, but unfortunately failed and died on his chest from the explosion.
  • Tragic Robot: While it indeed betrayed us and wanted to destroy humanity to create a paradise of robots, its backstory, humanity and death are all quite saddening. Although it was very loyal to the Micians, they saw it as Just a Machine and unceremoniously abandoned it in space when it was destroyed after accomplishing its mission from them. It did all it could for Crab in Orange as a mentor to keep him safe even when he had forgotten their relationship, seems to have developed "humanity" out of its care for him despite its own denial, and dies because it wants to stop his suicide.
  • Walking Spoiler: In-depth discussions about this particular Robo Bunny spoil a major part of the Moonlit Confession event story.
  • Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: TG Alpha I was loyal to the Micians till the end and accepted its mission unquestionably, but treated as a disposable, mindless tool even though its mind was no different from that of a living human. When saved from its supposed eternal slumber in space after betrayal and abandonment, it decides to build an "immortal realm meant only for machines" on the rebuilt Guanghan Palace and use humans as tools like a payback.

    Tiangou

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/e826760e_30d4_4513_8485_face34def642.png

A greedy and cunning beast prophesied to devour the sun and bring with it unnatural events. It escaped Mount Buzhou where it was sealed, and now is about to make the prophecy come true.

It appears in the Azure Horizon event and serves as the boss for a special Joint Server Stage called "Tiangou Swallows The Sun".

  • Canis Major: It takes the form of a wolf-like creature, and is big enough to literally eat the sun.
  • Emotion Bomb: It has the ability to bring out the evil and blood-thirst instead people’s mind, which it uses to invoke chaos and warfare to its advantage wherever it goes.
  • Eye Beam: The blue rays from its eyes can attack its opponents.
  • Death by Irony: For a beast known for swallowing the sun, it sure meets an ironic end by being swallowed itself, this time by a giant snake.
  • It Can Think: While its actions appear to be instinctive, Tiangou is actually described as "the slyest of all ancient beast" and proves that: it deliberately manipulates the situation for the Emotion Bomb to strike and stir up conflict between the Oceanids and Azureans, making them go from cooperating to defeat Tiangou to fighting among themselves for the pettiest reason. It also knows when to give up and flee once the stakes are against it.
  • Natural Disaster Cascade: Black spots on the sun, the beasts going mad, specks of light falling into the sea and causing tsunamis are all signs leading up to the event of Tiangou swallowing the sun.
  • Planet Eater: It’s known as "the beast that swallows the sun".
  • Playing with Fire: After devouring the sun, it evolves and turns into "Fiery Tiangou". True to the name, it gains the ability to control fire.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: It used to be sealed in Mount Buzhou along with countless demons after being subdued by a passing deity.
  • Sizeshifter: While normally a Canis Major, it can shrink itself to three feet long when it’s very weakened and needs to flee.
