A miraculous "medicine" that cured a consort's illness, he’s a soul born with the boldness inherited from his maker. A lively and adorable child who loves to twist flower ropes, spin tops and play hide-and-seek with other kids.

  • Affectionate Nickname: The kids whom he plays with on the street affectionately call him "Little Hawthorne".
  • Cheerful Child: He’s a playful and hyperactive child who wants to have fun with everyone, especially the young master.

Cuisine: Cantonese (粤)
Class: Sunder
Other Names:
Voiced by: Ye Qing (CN), Miura Kōichi (JP), Adam New (EN), Jang Seo-hwa (KR)

A Cantonese Cuisine rumored to be one of the "Eight Delicacies" from the Zhou period and is a famous street food in Guangzhou. An affable young man who enjoys eating, sleeping and having a good soak. He's able to fall asleep anywhere.

  • Armor-Piercing Attack: His second skill, "Pressure Cooker", will deal 185% DMG and pierce the target’s DEF.
  • A Friend in Need: When Har-gow seeks him out to borrow money for his concert and tell him about the exploded tearoom, Claypot Rice gives him his entire savings.
  • Really Fond of Sleeping: The guy is somehow able to sleep 20 hours a day.
  • Secretly Wealthy: He seems to be a mere shopkeeper who doesn’t even do his job properly, but when needed, he casually lends Har-gow enough money to organize a whole concert.
  • Sleepyhead: In rare times he’s awake, he always sounds drowsy and doesn’t have the energy to do anything. He even dozed off when writing his first letter to the young master.
  • Supering in Your Sleep: His special skill is said to be fighting while sleeping.
  • Weaponized Headgear: When given spiritual power, his porcelain hat increases in weight and he can use it to either deal Armor-Piercing Attack or protect himself.

    Crab-roe Soup Bun

Cuisine: Jiangsu (苏)
Class: Poison
Other Names:
Voiced by: Zhang Yutong (CN), Ooshiro Mei (JP), Lee Sang-ho (KR)

A Jiangsu Cuisine, originally an offering to the ocean as tribute to the late Mrs. Sun. An aloof and insecure child. He doesn't seem to like being near water for too long.

  • Gameplay and Story Integration: He’s the only character who halts the production when put in the pond or the alcove because of his fear of water.
  • Shock Stick: He shoots energy shock at the enemies with his sticks.
  • Trauma Button: Due to being thrown into the cold river water as a dish to commemorate Zhuge Liang’s wife who drowned herself, Crab-roe Soup Bun is afraid of water since becoming a soul.
  • Tsundere: He’s harsh, temperamental and seems to seclude himself from others, but the truth is that he always wants someone to stick with him and comfort him. His voice lines with the young master are stereotypical of this trope, and in his diary he initially dismissed playing with the Food Spirit children, but still "reluctantly" joined in to repay them for saving him from the water.

    Hangzhou Noodles

Cuisine: Zhejiang (浙)
Class: Control
Other Names: Mr. Chuan
Voiced by: Jin Xian (CN), Nishihara Shougo (JP), Kim Da-ol (KR)

A Zhejiang Cuisine, a traditional Hangzhou dish with a hundred-year history. He became a Food Soul in the Qing Dynasty and was once the shopkeeper of Kuiyuan Noodle House. Having met many famous people, he acts quite arrogant and thinks that everyone in the world should have heard of his name.

  • Improbable Weapon User: He wields the Kuiyuan Noodle House‘s plaque in picture to beat the enemies up.
  • Nobody Touches the Hair: He mentions that he spent time and effort for his hairstyle and scolds the young master for trying to touch it.
  • Self-Made Man: He built his restaurant from scratch by selling delicious noodles at a low price, and quickly rose to fame in Hangzhou. After being frequented by several prestigious guests, Hangzhou Noodles' reputation spread even further throughout the country.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Downplayed in that he’s a genuinely popular cuisine, but his fame is nowhere near the level of Buddha’s Temptation or Peking Duck who are internationally well-known. Yet he assumes that everyone must have heard his name and those who don’t are simply ignorant, thus the young master should pay extra attention to him and Kongsang Restaurant should resemble Kuiyuan Noodle House more for greater profit.

Cuisine: Fujian (闽)
Class: Taunt
Other Names:
Voiced by: Gu Jiangshan (CN), Nishikawa Kensuke (JP), Joshua Waters (EN), Jung Ui-taek (KR)

A Fujian Cuisine created to accustom the Min King, who disliked seafood. As a Food Soul, he is a young man who loves the sea and rides the waves all year round.

  • Bold Explorer: He loves reading classics about sea adventures and is occasionally on an adventure himself. There are times he got swallowed by a tornado or barely escaped from a school of sharks, but he’s never disheartened and even managed to see the Dragon Palace among the raging waves once.
  • Cooldown Manipulation: His third skill "Sea Convergence" reduces the cooldown of all skills of allies by 1 round.
  • Improbable Weapon User: A giant spiked shell which he uses as both a shield and a surfboard.
  • Making a Splash: He can summon the waves and tides to the battlefield to ride on for his skills or to assist his teammates.
  • Shield Surf: In his second skill, he uses the shell shield as a boat to plough the waves he summons.
  • I Shall Taunt You: When activating his second skill "Tsunami", he will taunt the target for 1 round while recovering 20% HP.
  • Studded Shell: The shell he wields has several spikes on it, allowing him to attack the enemies with it.

Cuisine: Sichuan (川)
Class: Control
Other Names:
Voiced by: Wei Chao (CN), Katano Kouji (JP), Maximilian Reid (EN), Kim Jin-hong (KR)

A Sichuan Cuisine that got its name from its fish-like fragrance, but no fish is actually used. He's an eccentric man who is often whimsical and makes a living conning people. An eloquent smooth talker.

  • Con Man: He’s a scam artist who traps people with flowery words, invites the gullible to play cards together, and makes bets he knows for sure he’ll win.
  • Consummate Liar: Because he lies too often as a Con Man, he has a habit of lying even when he doesn’t need to and isn’t as eloquent when he speaks truthfully.
  • Death Dealer: He throws poker cards in his normal attack.
  • Hiding Behind Your Bangs: His hair covers his left eye, and he himself indeed has a lot of schemes and tricks to hide.
  • Large Ham: He likes to be dramatic and see the young master get shaken by his antics. When given his special gift, he blatantly fakes Tears of Joy.
  • Master of Disguise: He swiftly turns himself into another Food Spirit in his third skill "Disguise Feast", which has a 70% chance to dispel all of the targets’ buffs, stun them for 1 round, and inflict Anti-Heal on them for 3 rounds.
  • Verbal Tic: He starts his sentence with "Aiyaya" every now and then.
  • Worthy Opponent: He and Taichi Taro Paste see each other as this, due to being tied for the first place in "Kongsang Battle of Wits" and sharing the title of "Kongsang's Wisest". Being the Insufferable Genius they are, they both left dejectedly and bemoaned why they must be born in the same era.

    Taichi Taro Paste

Cuisine: Fujian (闽)
Class: Dispel
Other Names:
Voiced by: Sun Lulu (CN), Atsushi Tamaru (JP), Park Yo-han (KR)

A Fujian Cuisine originated from the story of famous Qing official Lin Zexu outwitting the ill-willed foreign officials. He once served as Lord Lin's advisor and is a self-proclaimed professor of "all fields of knowledge from astronomy to geology". However, he is not good at physical activities.

  • Affably Evil: He's affiliated with the enemy for a good chunk of the story, but is generally cordial and steps up to help the heroes a few times. Subverted as he has always been on Kongsang’s side all along.
  • All According to Plan: In his Victory quote, he says something along this line:
    Everything was within my expectations!
  • Combat Hand Fan: He always has his handmade Taichi Fan with him, and waves it whenever he uses his skills.
  • The Gadfly: In his first letter, he baits the young master into thinking he’s about to give them a top secret information when there’s actually nothing at all, in order to teach them a lesson about not putting their trust on other people so easily in the future.
  • Good All Along: He spends the first seven chapters as a Food Spirit affiliated with the Realm of Melanya and "betrayed" the young master, but the epilogue of Chapter 8 reveals that he’s The Mole Yizhi sent to the Realm of Melanya. This revelation arrives along with the fact that he recovered the young master's dead body from the formation vortex and keeps it in good condition, allowing them to be brought Back from the Dead later.
  • Insufferable Genius: He knows well that he’s one of the smartest, most knowledgeable Food Spirits in Kongsang and can be quite showy about it by saying how he has foreseen the young master’s actions and the like. He also likes to make fun of those whom he views as "idiots" and only wants to acquaint with people on the same level of intellect as him.
Trying to communicate with idiots only drains my energy.
  • The Mole: He infiltrated the Realm of Melanya on orders from Food God Yizhi, and was the one who first told Yizhi of the Realm of Melanya's plan to turn all Food Spirits of the Kong's Mansion into demons.
  • Non-Action Guy: While he’s a damn good strategist with a wide range of knowledge, physical work is one thing he can’t do.
  • The Strategist: He’s the self-proclaimed counselor of the young master and restricts himself to giving out strategies in battle. His skillset, alluding to his role, is also majorly for support.
  • Worthy Opponent: He and Yuxiang Pork see each other as this, due to being tied for the first place in "Kongsang Battle of Wits" and sharing the title of "Kongsang's Wisest". Being the Insufferable Genius they are, they both left dejectedly and bemoaned why they must be born in the same era.

    Peach Petal Congee

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/3bf82e5f_3cc7_4041_ba2e_ecc8ab4fc7fa.png
A young hero touched by the cherry blossoms, who despises matrimony

Cuisine: Common (普)
Class: Burst
Other Names: Young Tao
Voiced by: Li Lanling (CN), Kazuki Nakashima (JP)

A spring dish popularized in the Tang Dynasty traditionally eaten around Cold Food Day. However, the tradition, and subsequently the dish, had slowly faded to history, weakening Peach Petal Congee. He's able to hang on by associating the dish with his ability to read love fortunes; which he does so begrudgingly due to his aversion to romance.

  • Celibate Hero: He is so vehemently against romance that he's all but outright stated to be Aromantic. In fact, he laughs when reading tragic love stories.
  • Cherry Blossom Girl: Subverted; he's a Long-Haired Pretty Boy who wears pink and is based on a dish made with peach blossoms, but he's a gung-ho Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy who despises romance.
  • Flower Motifs: He's a dish made with peach blossoms. His clothes are appropriately peach-pink, has peach blossom patterns and decorations, and attacks with peach blossom-shaped shurikens.
  • Fragile Speedster: Peach Petal Congee values speed, and it reflects in his skills. Low HP, but has an innate Dodge stat that allows him to avoid getting hit, and has a chance to gain the Dodge Up buff from attacking. He's also able follow up with an additional attack should he have the buff when he takes his turn.
  • Irony: Despite being a dish associated with romantic fortune, he can't stand it.
  • Near-Death Experience: Comes close to being a forgotten dish in Spring Nimbus, with his aura being already weak and exhibited demonic energies. It isn't even the first time it happened, and he's so obscure a dish that Yi Ya rejected his request to join the Realm of Melanya. He manages to avoid death thanks to Longjing Shrimp turning the dish into a gift from the God of Spring, said to grant his protection.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: Despite his masculine personality, he wears pink clothes due to his peach blossom motif, and also performs beauty care.
  • The Rival: Seems to have this dynamic with Guìhuājiǔ, as both are beauty-conscious men, and with Geely for their stance on romance.
  • Stock Ninja Weaponry: He uses shurikens shaped like peach blossoms.

    Mooncake

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/963c66bd_6815_48e0_80c5_52ee20419358.png
Little makes his heart swell, safe for a reunion under the full moon

Cuisine: Common (普)
Class: Support
Other Names:
Voiced by: Zhang Yutong (CN), Fukuko Yukimiyama (JP), Alex Mitts (EN), Lee Eun-jo (KR)

A dish made in the Tang Dynasty, with the wishes of people wanting a reunion before becoming a mid-Autumn tradition. Hailing from the Guanghan Palace, Mooncake serves as its ambassador to reunite people. A brave young soul who strives to become a hero.

  • Break the Cutie: In the Moonlit Confession event, he goes from a bubbly hero wannabe to being slapped with a Despair Event Horizon. Thankfully, he gets better.
  • Despair Event Horizon: When he realized that his home - the original Guanghan Palace - had been destroyed years ago and the current one was simply a mechanical replica, meaning that he had nothing left to defend, he completely broke down and tried to command the entire place to self-destruct. He was barely stopped and had his senses put back into his mind by Osmanthus Wine.
  • The Hero: He aspires to be one, at least. His goal is to be the hero that reunites people with their separated loved ones.
  • Heroic Second Wind: Fittingly named "Unyielding Heroes", which gives the Unyielding buff. If anyone with the buff takes a fatal attack, it prevents them from getting weakened and grants Invincibility.
  • Little Bit Beastly: Rabbit ears, to go with his moon bunny theme.
  • Moon Rabbit: Has this motif in mind, and collaborates with the Luna Rabbit to make moon cakes to bless the land with.
  • Older Than He Looks: He claims to be older than Chicken-Shroom Pot, despite looking and behaving like a child. Which is actually true because he came into existence in the Tang Dynasty (618-907), while Chicken-Shroom Pot appeared between the Ming and Qing dynasties (around 1618-1683) - a whole millennium later.
