    Bugsnax in General (SPOILERS)
  • Adorable Abomination: Even after knowing what they really are, that doesn't change the fact that a lot of them are cute googly-eyed critters that use Pokémon Speak.
  • Ambiguous Innocence: Despite their horrific nature, it is never made clear if Bugsnax manipulate Grumpuses out of malice or simply for their own survival. Considering how they react to them throughout the game, it is most likely the latter.
  • Animal Motifs: Being hybrids, most of them are obviously individually based on insects. Others, though, are based on marine invertabretes and arachnids.
  • Anthropomorphic Food: The Bugsnax are all based on food items, but otherwise behave like normal arthropods would.
  • The Assimilator: They look like cute creatures that can change you into what you eat as a silly side-effect. Turns out that's part of their life cycle: the more a predator eats them, the more addicted they become until they're an amalgamation of snak matter, after which they literally break apart and fall into the island forever.
  • Asteroids Monster: Certain Bugsnax such as the Sandopede, Big Bopsicle, and Preying Picantis are actually bigger Bugsnax comprised of a number of smaller Bugsnax. They can either be caught whole or broken up into their individual pieces and then caught. Then there's the Snaxsquatch, which is a Grumpanoid creature built from Bugsnax by Lizbert to act as her sentry. It can't be caught, as getting too close will cause it to break apart and scatter.
  • Bizarre Alien Reproduction: Yeah, those cute critters you've been chasing around were actually the remains of the previous colonists of Snaktooth. When victims of complete snakification fall apart, the pieces are absorbed into the mass of snax making up Snaktooth Island, where they develop into new Bugsnax in the belly of the island.
  • Black Dot Eyes: They all have big eyes with simple black pupils.
  • Blue-and-Orange Morality: Saying they are evil would definitely be a… well, we would say "understatement", given the gruesome and horrific nature of the Bugsnax life cycle, but it's never really made clear whether the Bugsnax (or the gestalt of Snaktooth Island) take some sort of sadistic pleasure in assimilating Grumpuses into becoming more of themselves, whether they see it as some sort of Dirty Business, or they don't have any feelings one way or the other and are just trying to propagate the only way they know how. Indeed, many of the Bugsnax do everything in their power to avoid being eaten, despite that being a crucial part of their aforementioned life cycle (at least until the Awful Truth comes out and everything goes to hell). And as an added bonus, many of the Bugsnax are actually quite friendly and playful to Grumpuses, with a few of them even allowing Grumpuses like Gramble and the Journalist to pet them.
  • Cannibalism Superpower: The result of a Grumpus eating Bugsnax is that their limbs transform to fit the Snak consumed (i.e. a hotdog leg from a Weenyworm). Some Grumpuses request certain Snax under the impression that they'll help them deal with the environment they're found in, such as Cromdo requesting to eat Big Bopsicles so he can beat the desert heat and walk back to Snaxburg.
  • Cephalothorax: A lot of the Bugsnax have this kind of body type, considering that most of them are just food items with limbs (and the limbs may or may not also be food).
  • Fantastic Drug: Bugsnax are addictive to troubled people, quickly causing them to seek them out as a solution to inner turmoil and keep eating more and more Bugsnax until they become Bugsnax.
  • Does Not Like Spam: Some snax have sauces that they hate, alongside ones they love. Scorpenyos and Scorpeppers will burn anything that has hot sauce on it, while Shy Weenyworms hates ketchup so much that they will become enraged when they are covered in it.
  • An Ice Person: Frosty Bugsnax can freeze you solid, but you can break out.
  • Impossibly Delicious Food: A variant. The Bugsnax are noted to be very tasty and filling, being noted as being something that "you haven't lived until you've tried it". It's an intentional part of the allure for the Bugsnax, and not in a good way, given they're parasites. That said, anyone who is allergic to them cannot stomach them no matter how tasty they are, and given their true nature, it's possible that they might not be very effective on people who don't have any troubles to prey on.
  • Informed Species: The Bugsnax wiki lists their real parallel counterparts, though in some cases it seems to be more in terms of behavior than shape.
  • Kung Fu-Proof Mook: Frosty and Spicy Bugsnax can't be caught until you get them to interact with something that will make them capturable. Frosty Bugsnax are Weak to Fire and hot water, whilst Spicy Bugsnax are weak to ice and water.
  • More than Mind Control: Bugsnax do more than change one's physical body; they also subtly manipulate a person's insecurities to try and induce them to consume more Bugsnax. This is implied to be why so many side-quests involve a Grumpus requesting you catch and feed them more and more Bugsnax, and why the conclusion of each one's questline is them realizing that the Bugsnax aren't helping.
  • Mutagenic Food: Any Bugsnak a Grumpus eats changes the appearance of one of their body parts to reflect the food-creature they just consumed. The food-changed body parts eventually turn back to normal on their own unless you eat too many.
  • Planimal: Some of the Bugsnax resemble fruits or vegetables with eyes and legs, although they're apparently neither plant nor animal.
  • Pokémon Speak: Any speech they're capable of is saying their species' name, save for variants like the White Strabby or Lovely Sweetiefly.
  • Punched Across the Room: Aggressive Bugsnax are capable of smacking you a short distance away.
  • Ridiculously Cute Critter: They are all, literally, cute enough to eat. But you REALLY shouldn't.
  • We ARE Struggling Together: Despite the fact that they are all closely related and live on the same island. Nearly every Bugsnax on the island either has a grudge or is terrified of one another. This hostility is best demonstrated with the Bungers and the Spuddys, as the two literally butt heads with each other when trying to assimilate Wambus and Triffany. Even for an island inhabited by food-based animals, Animal Jingoism is still very much present.
  • Wreathed in Flames: Spicy Bugsnax are constantly on fire by default. Touching them will light you on fire, but it merely makes you run around uncontrollably for a short while, and you're put out afterward.

Fruits & Veggies

    Strabbies, Razzbies, Cheery

Strabby - White Strabby - Razzby - Black Razzby - Cheery - Sprout

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bugsnax_berry_buddies.png
They're a little shy, but that's okay! They just need some space.
Voiced by: Tom Taylorson (Strabbies), Jeannie Tirado (Razzbies & Cheeries)

Small berry Bugsnax that are also the most basic of the bunch, running about a set path and hiding away timidly if anyone approaches.

Multiple versions appear in different areas of the game, and Cheery in particular is a part of the Scoopy Banoopy Bugsnax.

Sprout is a baby Strabby (signified by his unripened pale yellow coloration) raised by Gramble. He's been trained to roll about in a little hamster ball, directed by a laser pointer, becoming an invaluable asset to catching certain Snax.

  • Animal Motifs: Ladybugs and aphids (Strabby), just ladybugs (Razzby), and ice fleas (Cheery).
  • Cephalothorax: They are essentially just fruits with leafy limbs.
  • The Cutie: Many of the Grumpuses will agree that these Bugsnax are by far the most adorable.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: The Black Razzbies are black in color and by are by far one of the more friendlier Bugsnaxs you will find in the Sizzlin Sands.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Cheery appears in one of the films way before you ever get access to the Frosted Peak.
  • The Goomba: The simplest creatures to catch, with Underground Monkey variants elsewhere on the island.
  • Lovable Coward: Will immediately hide if you get too close, but can bond very well with others once they get to know them. It's probably why Sprout is still firmly on your side and helps you attack other Bugsnax in spite of the Awful Truth.
  • Mascot Mook: Strabby is the Bugsnax that appears in promotional material — to the point that when the game went gold, a life-sized gold figure of a Strabby was made.
  • Red Is Heroic: Downplayed. The only Strabby that actually shows any sign of heroism is the one you are partnered with: Sprout.
  • Spring Coil: The Cheery is able to hop about by using its spiraled stem.
  • Team Pet: Sprout is definitely this for the Expedition.
  • Token Heroic Orc: Sprout, a tame Strabby that helps the Journalist on their adventure.

    Rootles

Rootle - White Rootle

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bugsnax_rootles.png
Same, Rootle. Same.
Voiced by: Haviland Stillwell

Odd wormy snax that look like root vegetables (carrots and parsnips respectively) and fittingly can dig into the dirt to avoid being preyed upon. Aside from that, there's not much to them.

  • Animal Motifs: Earthworms — especially evident in how they move across the ground, stretching and contracting all the way.
  • Light Is Good: Downplayed. The White Rootles are white in color and are no more dangerous than any other bugsnax.
  • Ostrich Head Hiding: Exaggerated. Instead of sticking their heads in the ground, they stick their entire bodies in it. (You know, like a burrowing worm would do.)
  • Shout-Out: Wiggle's comment on the White Rootle is a reference to the song "White Wedding" by Billy Idol.
    "It's a - nice day for a - White Rootle!"

    Lollives

Lollives (Green & Black)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bugsnax_lollive.png
What an incredibly rude fruit!

Flying olives with long tongues that can snatch up Snax and traps.

  • Animal Motifs: Long-tongued flies.
  • Dark Is Evil: Downplayed. While not exactly evil, the Black Lollives are definitely trollish and rude and just enjoy messing with those around them simply for kicks and giggles.
  • Good Wings, Evil Wings: It uses its two leaves as wings.
  • Overly-Long Tongue: As stated above, it has a very long tongue which it can use to pick up anything that it likes.
  • Pungeon Master: The Black Lollive's bio states it "uses its pimento tongue to snatch up anything cheesy", since its favorite sauce is cheese sauce. Triffany likes to make archeology puns, so she has this to say:
"Oh no, it's comin' for my bone puns!"
  • Troll: Filbo describes them as being extremely rude fruits. And that description is surprisingly accurate. They will use their tongues to drag your items out of reach and will then start Blowing a Raspberry at you.

    Banoppers, Cobhopper

Banopper - Red Banopper - Cobhopper

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bugsnax_hopper_homies.png
That thing has an a-maize-ing vertical, bro.
Voiced by: Julie Nathanson (Banopper, Red Banopper), Debra Wilson (Cobhopper)

Bananas, or in Cobhopper's case a cob of corn, that live in trees and navigate by jumping between canopies. The Trip Shot can easily knock them down. Of note, two Banoppers are part of the Scoopy Banoopy.

  • Animal Motifs: Grasshoppers (lubber, milkweed, and common, respectively).
  • Banana Peel: When a Banopper is stunned, it takes the position of one. Fortunately, you can't slip on it.
  • In a Single Bound: Can leap from treetop to treetop easily.
  • Shout-Out: Floofty's comment on the Banopper references Young Horses' previous game, Octodad, where the titular Octodad has to avoid slipping on banana peels.
"The natural enemy of all cephalopods."

    Crapples

Crapples (Red & Green)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bugsnax_crapples.png
This one's (Green) the exact same color as my (Triffany's) gramma!
Voiced by: Max Mittelman

Curious, crabby apples that like to get their claws on anything that interests them, dragging it back to their lairs. This can include the Buggy Ball and Snak Trap, or even other Bugsnax. The Red type are found in Simmering Springs while the Green type are found in Boiling Bay.

  • Animal Motifs: Crabs (the European green crab and Red apple crab for those of the namesake color).
  • The Dreaded: Waffstackaraks, Tropicabugs, and Pineantulas fear Crapples, which give said Crapples free reign to just pick them up and haul them around.
  • Power Pincers: It will use them to carry anything covered in its favorite sauces.
  • Punny Name: It's a crabapple, hence: cra(ba)pple. Though the fact that the name ends up including a Minced Oath makes it a little awkward. Apparently Gramble was the one to call it that.
  • Red/Green Contrast: The Crapples of Simmering Springs are red, while the ones of Boiling Bay are green.
  • Shout-Out: Gramble's comment on Crapple references a scene of The Simpsons in which Homer misnames his son's teacher, Ms. Krabappel.
    "I've been calling it Crapple!"
  • Tempting Apple: Can be seen as this when considering the fact that Bugsnax are apparently addicting.

    Grapeskeetos

Grapeskeeto (Purple & Green)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bugsnax_grapeskeeto.png
The stuff it sucks out is concentrated Snakwater. The more ya know!
Voiced by: Jeannie Tirado

The usually lumpy, raisin-like Grapeskeeto feeds on the juices of other Bugsnax, plumping up in the process. Catching involves baiting it into feeding and then catching it when it's too full to move.

  • Animal Motifs: Mosquitoes.
  • Balloon Belly: They become very round after eating. They can do little more than a short, ineffectual bounce to move afterward.
  • Good Wings, Evil Wings: They are able to fly using leaf-like wings.
  • Mosquito Miscreants: Not to you, but they are definitely this to any Bugsnax if they are covered in chocolate.
  • Nocturnal Mooks: They will only appear during the sunset.
  • Vampire Bites Suck: Their victims usually display distressed emoticons while being fed on and will run and hide once the Grapeskeeto is done.
  • Vampiric Draining: Feeds on the juices of other Bugsnax, including other Grapeskeetos. Alternatively, it can just eat sauce, which is more or less nectar.

    Kweebles

Kweebles (Green & Gold)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bugsnax_kweeble.png
I can't decide whether Kweeble or Strabby is cuter!
Voiced by: Fryda Wolff

Shy kiwi critters that like to dig with their long "spoon" horns. They tend to hide away, so use either the Buggy Ball or chocolate to flush it out. Gramble has three Kweebles as pets: Charwee, Ashwee and Joewee.

  • Animal Motifs: Weevils.
  • Ate the Spoon: Played with as they didn't eat a spoon, but rather the spoon is a part of their body.
  • Shout-Out: Gramble's comment on the Golden Kweeble may be a reference to player reactions to encountering a shiny Pokémon.
"Different color means it's special! Catch it catch it catch it catch it!!"
  • Tasty Gold: While not exactly being made of gold, the Golden Kweeble can be consumed like any other Bugsnax.
  • Token Heroic Orc: During the invasion, two of Gramble's Kweebles were willing to help Snorpy and Chandlo defend against the frenzied Bugsnax.

    Peelbugs

Peelbugs (Green, Orange, Ruby, Yellow)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bugsnax_peelbugs.png
When life hands you Peelbugs, make Peelbugade!
Voiced by: Julie Nathanson
Slices of citrus that like to ball up and hide in small burrows the player can't reach. The Buggy Ball will be needed to chase them out. Gramble seems to have an Orange Peelbug named Steve.
  • Animal Motifs: Pill bugs (emerald, powder orange, carpenter, and rubber ducky, respectively).
  • Be the Ball: And just like pill bugs, they too can roll up into balls. Although, they are more likely to use this trick to run away from you instead of towards you.
  • Inside a Wall: They almost always are always hidden in the tunnels and crevices of their homes.
  • Mellow Fellow: Green Peelbug is described as "Comfy, groggy, introverted".
  • Shout-Out: Wiggle's comment on the Green Peelbug is a reference to the song "Put the Lime in the Coconut" by Harry Nilsson.

    Pineantula

Pineantula

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bugsnax_pineantula.PNG
Love the hair, is that au naturel?
Voiced by: Robbie Daymond

Pineapple tarantulas that burrow in the sand, so that only their leafy tops show aboveground. The player is unable to dig it up directly, but perhaps the local fauna can be persuaded. It is found in Simmering Springs.

  • Animal Motifs: It's a tarantula in appearance, but its digging behavior is reminiscent of a trapdoor spider. Both of these happen to be types of Mygalomorphs.
  • Cephalothorax: Their bodies are shaped like big-brained heads.
  • Extra Eyes: Unlike most Bugsnax which have two eyes, they have four.
  • Friendly Neighborhood Spider: While it does look like a mygalomorph, it is relatively harmless and would rather flee than fight.
  • Plant Hair: Wiggle seems to have taken a liking to the leaves on top of their head.
  • Shark Fin of Doom: Subverted. When underground, their head leaves will always stick out. However, they are doing this tactic to hide, not hunt.

    Cocomites

Cocomites (Greater & Lesser)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bugsnax_cocomites.png
A pair of siblings? I see myself in this one (Greater). This one reminds me of Snorpy (Lesser).
Voiced by: Michael Schwalbe

Up in palm trees is where Cocomite Husks can be found. Once the tough shell has been cracked, it splits into two Cocomites: Greater (two yellow straws) and Lesser (single red straw). They are very aggressive.

  • Animal Motifs: Lucoppia mites, as implied by their names.
  • Bash Brothers: Once their shell is broken, they work together to bully the player.
  • Coconut Meets Cranium: They can often fall on the Journalist's head if they are standing directly underneath them.
  • Identical Twin ID Tag: In addition to the differences in their "straws", the Greater has a pointy head while the Lesser's is round.

    Scorpenyo, Scorpepper

Scorpenyo - Scorpepper

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bugsnax_scalding_scorpions.PNG
Howsabout a fire sale? If it's on fire, it's for sale!
Voiced by: Robbie Daymond (Scorpenyo), Todd Haberkorn (Scorpepper)

Spicy hot scorpions lurk on the walls and undersides of structures. Scorpenyo is found in Scorched Gorge while Scorpepper is found in Sizzlin' Sands.

  • Animal Motifs: Scorpions (deathstalker and Indian red, respectively).
  • Beware My Stinger Tail: These tails essentially act like catapults that launch flaming projectiles.
  • Does Not Like Spam: Despite being spicy themselves, they absolutely hate hot sauce and will burn it on sight.
  • Fireballs: They can use their tails to lob these at anything they don't like.
  • Invisibility: Scorpeppers have the unique ability to turn themselves completely invisible. …Well, almost completely invisible (see See the Invisible below).
  • Kill It with Water: The only way you will be able to catch one is by luring it to a body of water and tricking it into extinguishing itself.
  • Playing with Fire: They are one of the few Bugsnax that can actually shoot flaming projectiles at the Journalist.
  • Red/Green Contrast: Scorpepper is mostly red while Scorpenyo is mostly green.
  • Scary Scorpion: They look like scorpions and are foes that should not be taken lightly.
  • See the Invisible: Fortunately, you will always be able to see the fire on the end of their tail regardless of their visibility.
  • Visual Pun: The Scorpepper can turn invisible. As pointed out by Triffany's comment and the file name, this makes it a ghost pepper. As well, Scorpepper is a reference to the Trinidad Scorpion Butch T pepper.
  • Wall Crawl: They will often patrol a certain area on the side of a rock and will fire at anything that aggravates them.
  • Wreathed in Flames: They are constantly on fire and shoot flaming peppers at the Journalist and their tools.

    Cellystix

Cellystix

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2022_05_06_111648.png
I'd like it better with Grapeskeetos, but you do you.
Voiced by: Shelby Young

A celery Bugsnax that is so big, it sometimes carries other Bugsnax on its back.

  • Animal Motifs: Stickbugs.
  • Does Not Like Spam: Cellystix does not like Snaktraps whatsoever. But considering what it is used for, you can't really blame it.
  • Shout-Out: Its idle animation is identical to the "Get Stickbugged Lol" meme.
  • Shown Their Work: Cellystixes walk by rocking from side to side. This is clearly based on how stickbugs move to camouflage themselves as rustling twigs.
  • Visual Pun: It carries three Chocolants on its back, referencing the popular celery snack referred to as "ants on a log", which consist of celery sticks, peanut butter, and raisins.

Meals & Sides

    Bungers

Bunger - BBQ Bunger - Bunger Royale

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bugsnax_bungers.png
I had to set up scarecrows just to give 'em somethin' else to tackle.
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2022_05_06_101706.png
There's always a bigger Bunger...
Voiced by: Tom Taylorson

A tough little Bugsnax made out of a burger and fries that is easily led around by sauce. They tend to tackle anything in the way of or covered in said sauce, but are otherwise content to bumble around happily.

The BBQ variant appears in the desert, and is far more aggressive than its normal counterpart, rushing anything it notices in a playful manner.

The Royale variant appears in The Isle of BIGsnax. Instead of fries, it has tater tots for legs.

  • Animal Motifs: Rhinoceros beetles.
  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Will always go after sauce, particularly ketchup, to the point of knocking themselves silly. This becomes a literal Weaksauce Weakness when a special sauce made by Wambus is used. The Bungers are so excited by it that they off themselves and the Spuddys in droves.
  • Burger Fool: Played with. They aren't people that work at burger joints; rather, they are living burgers that are often quite foolish.
  • The Dreaded: The only snax that seems to be afraid of them are Shiskabugs.
  • Dumb Muscle: This is a part of the gameplay elements in the starting areas.
  • Exactly What It Says on the Tin: The SnaxScope’s description of the Bunger Royale.
    "It's a Bunger, but big!"
  • Punched Across the Room: The usual result of them charging into living creatures, as Filbo found out the hard way when Wambus tossed ketchup in his face.
  • Tough Beetles: They resemble rhinoceros beetles and are completely unfazed if they crash into something.

    Shishkabug, Tropicabug, Instabug

Shishkabug - Tropicabug - Instabug

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bugsnax_kebab_krew.png
Wait a minute...that's MY strategy!
Voiced by: Todd Haberkorn (Shishkabug), Courtenay Taylor (Tropicabug & Instabug)

A cowardly ant-like snax that runs into hiding spots once it sees someone and will never leave voluntarily, requiring an aggressive snax to flush it out. The Tropicabug is its beach variant and acts the same.

The Instabug looks like trendy sweets and lives in the Frosted Peak. They crave attention, always hiding unless a camera is being used nearby.

  • Amicable Ants: As stated below, these guys greatly resemble ants and are completely harmless.
  • Animal Motifs: Ants (specifically fire ants for Shiskabugs, banded sugar ants for Tropicabugs, and blue ants for Instabugs).
  • Astonishingly Appropriate Appearance: Instabugs are based on sweets that are deliberately made to be snapshot ready for media sharing. Naturally, they are way more vain than any other Bugsnax, seeing no point in even showing themselves if no cameras are visible.
  • Attention Whore: The Instabugs. They only reveal themselves if the camera is out, and the moment it's put away, they dash back into hiding.
  • Lovable Coward: Just as cute as any other Snax, and even more cowardly than the Strabbys and Rootles combined.
  • Meaningful Name: Instabug is clearly named after Instagram, a social media app stereotypically used for sharing food pictures.
  • Please Subscribe to Our Channel: Beffica's comment on the Instabug clearly seems to be a Shout-Out to this trope.
"What's that? You want me to like, subscribe, and eat you?"

    Fryders

Fryder - Sweet Fryder

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bugsnax_fryders.png
I heard we swallow eight Fryders a year in our sleep!
Voiced by: Tom Taylorson

Wall-crawling Snax who can do whatever a spider can… because they are spiders. They prefer to stay on the walls or ceilings out of your reach, but the smell of ketchup will get them scurrying down the walls and into your waiting trap.

The average Fryder is found in the caves in Garden Grove. The Sweet Fryder can only be found in Scorched Gorge on a seemingly unreachable ledge.

  • Animal Motifs: Orb-weaver spiders.
  • Extra Eyes: Just like Pineantula, they too also have extra eyes.
  • Friendly Neighborhood Spider: While they do resemble spiders, they are completely harmless and can even be considered cute-looking.
  • Fuzzball Spider: While not fuzzy, their fry limbs are connected to the bottoms of their container like cephalothorax.
  • Wall Crawl: An expected ability for a spider-like Bugsnax to have.

    Weenyworms

Weenyworm - Shy Weenyworm

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bugsnax_weenieworms.PNG
Only criminals would put ketchup on a Weenyworm!
Voiced by: Michael Schwalbe

Hot dogs, bun and all, that wiggle across the ground. The Shy Weenyworm even has condiments. A regular Weenyworm can be seen inching around Wambus' garden patch, while the Shy variant requires breaking into a sealed chamber.

  • Animal Motifs: Scale worms in appearance, but snakes in movement.
  • Does Not Like Spam: Shy Weenyworms absolutely hate ketchup. When not motivated by this hatred, it is rather lazy. Inverted with the regular Weenyworms, which love ketchup.
  • Make My Monster Grow: For some reason, if you were to cover a Shy Weenyworm in ketchup, it will grow twice as big and become hostile towards everything that moves — including you!
  • Lazy Bum: They are often described as being one.
  • Shrinking Violet: As their title implies, Shy Weenyworms is quite bashful, since they keep to themselves in the closed off caves of the Scorched Gorge. Well, unless they are covered in ketchup, of course…
  • Truth in Television: Shy Weenyworm is based on a Chicago-style hot dog. Its hatred of ketchup and Wambus' commentnote  reflect some people having strong opinions against putting ketchup on hot dogs, especially Chicago-style dogs.

    Pinkle, Aggroll

Pinkle - Aggroll

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bugsnax_pinkle_roll.png
It lives in the cold to stay fresh, but it's never as good the next day...
Voiced by: Julie Nathanson (Aggroll), Robbie Daymond (Pinkle)

These Snax use containers to protect themselves. Aggroll uses what looks like a Chinese take-out box and has eggrolls for legs. Pinkle uses a jar and has pickles for legs. Capturing them requires figuring out how to get them out of their shells.

  • Animal Motifs: Hermit crabs, signified by using jars and boxes to protect themselves as well as each being able to use the other's "shell" without issue.
  • Bizarre Alien Biology: All the Bugsnax qualify, of course, but these two are of note since they walk on four legs with their container, but walk on three legs without their container, with the fourth leg being used as its body.
  • Drunk on Milk: Subverted. The "Snakwater" that Filbo makes, which appears to just be a Pinkle free-floating in a cooler of water, causes Shelda to start hiccuping and slurring when she drinks it. Furthermore, Wambus calls it "liquid courage", and to top it all off, it's flammable. While it may not have been alcoholic to begin with, it may have fermented since… Well, you know…
  • Floating Limbs: Somehow their limbs are able to levitate, and it's never explained how.
  • Game-Breaking Bug: A mild example: sometimes there is a Pinkle that spawns without its jar, but still behaves like it has its jar, making it invulnerable. Making it bump into a Pinkle-with-visible-jar seems to fix this.
  • Human Popsicle: Both Aggroll and Pinkle can be found frozen solid in the ice cave. Interestingly enough, this is the only place on Snaktooth where the Aggroll can be found.
  • Impossible Pickle Jar: This is actually Pinkle's defense strategy. Unfortunately for them, the jar can be easily removed with the Snax Grappler, and other aggressive Bugsnax like Sandopedes and Inchwraps can knock the jar right off of them.
  • Non-Indicative Name: Both played straight and averted for the Pinkle. It's not pink, but it is made of pickles.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Aggrolls are very hostile, while Pinkles are quite timid.

    Incherrito, Inchwrap

Incherrito - Inchwrap

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bugsnax_inchworms.png
UNDERGROUND... UNDERFOOT... UNDERESTIMATED!
Voiced by: Robbie Daymond (Incherrito), Cristina Vee (Inchwrap)

Wormy Snax that will burrow into the ground when the player approaches. Incherrito is found in Sizzlin' Sands while Inchwrap is found in Flavor Falls. Of note, an Incherrito is part of a Preying Picantis.

  • Animal Motifs: Inchworms.
  • Dig Attack: When they see something they don't like, they will tunnel toward it and fling it into the air.
  • Green and Mean: The Inchwraps have green lettuce-like skin, and will attack anything that gets too close to them.
  • Hoist by Their Own Petard: In the face of danger, their first instinct is to burrow into the ground to hide. To catch them, lure them to a rocky area and then approach. They will then stun themselves trying to dig into the rock.
  • Worm Sign: They often leave one wherever they go while burrowing in the ground.

    Sandopedes

Sandopede - Sub Sandopede

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bugsnax_sandopede.PNG
Nobody wants to be the middle in a Sandopede.
Voiced by: Michael Schwalbe

Marching along in a line of four are two Sandopedes on either end and two Sub Sandopedes in the middle. Need to be tripped to be collected.

  • All in a Row: Although it's noted that the Subs are separate snax that are only willingly following the head Sandopede and could actually leave if they wanted.
  • Animal Motifs: Centipedes.
  • Creepy Centipedes: Averted. While these guys do resemble a centipede, they are not creepy in the slightest.
  • The Eeyore: The Sub Sandopedes are clearly not happy about being in the middle of their brethren. Wambus even lampshades this after you scan one.
  • Wall Crawl: These sandwiches are able to climb up walls quite easily.

    Snaquiri

I wanna have 'Snax on the Beach' ;0)
Voiced by: Cristina Vee

A glass of tropical drink that flies around on its paper umbrella. Word of God has clarified it as a non-alcoholic.

  • Animal Motifs: Woolly aphids and jellyfish.
  • Animate Inanimate Object: More so than the other Bugsnax. It is essentially just a beverage with eyes.
  • Parasol Parachute: It is able to jump into the air and hover for a while thanks to its little parasol.
  • Shout-Out: Beffica's commentnote  is a reference to the song "Sex on the Beach" by T-Spoon, which involves mention of the Snaquiri's inspiration, the daiquiri.

    Flapjackarak, Waffstackarak

Flapjackarak - Waffstackarak

THE WIND BENDS TO ITS BACONY WILL!
Voiced by: Todd Haberkorn

Spiders either consist of bacon and pancakes or waffles and sausages that can spin rapidly and create cyclones that can launch anything into the sky.

  • Animal Motifs: Wheel spiders, a type of huntsman spider.
  • Blow You Away: They spin their bacon strips/sausage links to create mini tornados to blow you (and any other Bugsnax in the way) away.
  • Guide Dang It!: Waffstackaraks can only be summoned by ringing the bell near Wiggle's chair during the morning. It can be a bit tricky figuring this out on one's own.
  • Spiders Are Scary: They aren't scary because of their appearance, they are scary because they can create a whirlwind that can suck everything into it.

    Tacroaches

Tacroach - Baja Tacroach

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bugsnax_tacroach_5.PNG
Wouldn't it be swell if we had Tacroach Tuesdays?

A little taco Bugsnax. The only way to encounter one is to split apart a Preying Picantis. The Baja variant can be found on the cliff near Wiggle's chair. Tends to be very shy.

  • Animal Motifs: Cockroaches (desert and sand, respectively).
  • Creepy Cockroach: Averted. Despite being based on cockroaches, they are not creepy in the slightest.
  • The Eeyore: They have a constantly worried look on their face and will run away if startled. And as a bonus, they even sound gloomy!
  • Nocturnal Mooks: The Baja variants will only become active in the middle of the night at the Simmering Springs.
  • Shout-Out: The Baja Tacroach, as well as Chandlo's comment on it, is a reference to Baja Blast, a type of Mountain Dew flavor served at Taco Bell.

    Spuddies

Spuddy - Loaded Spuddy

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bugsnax_spuddy.PNG
What's it loaded with? Rage, bro. And sour cream.
Voiced by: Fred Tatasciore

Highly aggressive beetle spuds that will charge at everything and anything.

  • Animal Motifs: Stag beetles. Spuddy's mandibles are rounded while Loaded Spuddy's are pointed.
  • Cycle of Hurting: Should two Spuddies get close enough, they'll likely get stuck constantly ramming into each other until you capture at least one of them.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Loaded Spuddy's bio: "It smashes anything that makes it angry. Which is everything."
  • Human Popsicle: A Spuddy can be seen frozen solid inside the cave. Letting it out is probably not a good idea...
  • Irony: Spuddies hate other Spuddies, but the Loaded type are afraid of the regular Spuddies.
  • Monstrous Mandibles: Just like regular stag beetles, they have a pair of large mandibles which they can use like battering rams.
  • Punched Across the Room: If you thought Bungers had a bad habit of doing this, you will quickly find that these guys are much, much worse.
  • Tough Beetles: As expected from a short-tempered critter that resembles a stag beetle that charges at everything in sight.

    Ribblepede

Ribblepede

Makes me wonder how bugsnax came to imitate meat!
Voiced by: Abby Trott

Ribblepedes are meaty centipedes that hang out on walls and ceilings; they're commonly found around Triffany's digsite. It loves hot sauce.

  • Animal Motifs: Centipedes.
  • Bones Do Not Belong There: Its legs are actually ribs. Flexible and chewy ones at that.
  • Creepy Centipedes: They are quite disturbing once you realize they are essentially a rib cage that moves like a centipede. Well, they look like a ribcage.
  • Shout-Out: The Summer of Bugsnax guide lists it as Team Jacob.
  • Shrinking Violet: They are described as "Shy, anxious, unintentionally gross."
  • Wall Crawl: They often spend most of their time hanging out on the sides of the canyons.

    Buffalocust

Buffalocust

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bugsnax_buffalocust.PNG
A TRULY CURSED BEING!
Voiced by: Robbie Daymond

Buffalocust resembles a chicken drumstick with two buffalo chicken wings for legs. It flies in the skies and divebombs anything that gets its interest. Has a Scoville's rating scale of 2,200,001.

  • Animal Motifs: Desert locusts.
  • Furry Reminder: When they are grounded, they will use their wings as legs to hop on the ground, just like a locust.
  • Kill It with Water: A safe way of extinguishing their flames is to let a Sodie put them out.
  • Wreathed in Flames: They are constantly on fire and will burn anything they touch.

    Egglers

Eggler - Deviled Eggler

Once hatched, they're a bit runny. You'll have to poach them before they scramble!
Voiced by: Abby Trott (Eggler), Jeremy Guskin (Deviled Eggler)

Egglers are shielded in eggshells, and breaking them requires fire instead of force. It will instantly run to hide once freed of its shell, so a little patience (or a Flapjackarak's wind) is needed to coax it out.

Deviled Egglers fly, and once their shells have been broken open, they will subsequently spawn without giant Eggler shells.

  • Animal Motifs: Regular Egglers are based on slugs, but Deviled Egglers pull from wasps.
  • Cute Slime Mook: The Egglers definitely qualify for this trope. Just look at them!
  • Human Popsicle: An Eggler can be found frozen in ice in the cave on Frosted Peak.
  • Kill It with Ice: If you wanna catch a Deviled Eggler, you'll first have to trick it into crashing into a Millimochi.
  • Smashed Eggs Hatching: They will always spawn with a protective shell around them. When broken, it will release them and they appear to be completely fine. But then again, they are the yolk.
  • Weak to Fire: Its shell needs to be set aflame in order for an Eggler to be caught.
  • Wicked Wasps: The Devilled Egglers resemble wasps in terms of design, and unlike their smaller relatives, they are not friendly.
  • Wreathed in Flames: The Deviled Eggler is constantly on fire after you break its shell open.

Preying Picantis

It's like if all my favorite foods hated me!
Voiced by: Michael Schwalbe

A highly aggressive Snax found on rock platforms in Sizzlin' Sands. It must be stunned and extinguished to be caught, but take too long and it'll split into a Cheepoof, an Incherrito, and two Tacroaches. Gramble seems to have one as a pet, named Manny.

  • Animal Motifs: Praying mantises.
  • Asteroids Monster: Shortly after being extinguished, it'll split into a Cheepoof, an Incherrito, and two Tacroaches. During the Escape from Snaxburg mission, two Preying Picantises will intentionally split apart in an attempt to feed Shelda and Floofty four snax each instead of just one.
  • A Lizard Named "Liz": A mantis that Gramble named Manny.
  • Burning with Anger: It always has a very angry expression on its face and it is on fire most of the time. So, it can be interpreted as this.
  • Human Popsicle: A Preying Picantis can be found frozen in a block of ice. This is strange considering they are Bugsnax who are on fire most of the time.
  • Kill It W Ith Water: The best way to extinguish their flames is by soaking them with water.
  • Slaying Mantis: They resemble a mantis and are one of the most dangerous Bugsnax of the Sizzlin' Sands.
  • Wreathed in Flames: By default, it's constantly on fire.

    Noodler, Stewdler

Noodler - Stewdler

This Snak is lit! I mean it's fire! No for real, it burns, help!!
Voiced by: Max Mittelman (Noodler), Rick Zieff (Stewdler)

Crab-like Bugsnax that look like bowls of noodles and stew, respectively. The Noodler has legs like chopsticks and the Stewdler's are like spoons.

  • Animal Motifs: Spider crabs.
  • Informed Attribute: Stewdler's bio lists it as aggressive, even though it doesn't aggro the player.
  • Kill It with Ice: You can extinguish their flames by making a frosty Bugsnax attack them.
  • Kill It with Water: Or you can lure it near a Sodie, which will cause the Sodie to go to the Snax and extinguish its flames.
  • Visual Pun: The Stewdler looks like a bowl of chili. It is found in Frosted Peaks, an area that is chilly.
  • Wreathed in Flames: Both are on fire at all times and must be extinguished to be caught. The Noodler takes it a step further by living in the lava pools of Boiling Bay.

    Flutterjam

Drawn to peanut butter like a moth to a...lamp.
Voiced by: Jeannie Tirado

A Bugsnax that resembles a jam-slathered piece of toast bent in half. They aren't difficult to catch, but are rare to appear at the very top of Frosted Peak.

  • Animal Motifs: Owl butterflies.
  • Eyes Do Not Belong There: Its eyes are located on its wings. Although this is justified, considering it is nothing but wings.
  • Immune to Fire: It is completely fine with being burned. In fact, it enjoys it.
  • Pretty Butterflies: These living bread slices soar through the frosted peaks and very peaceful creatures.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Loves, loves, LOVES peanut butter, to the point of just folding and dropping to the ground if it is covered in it. Its bio describes its desire to become a PBJ.

Voiced by: Andrew Morgado

Cicada-like Bugsnax that hunt for Egglers.

  • Animal Motifs: Cicadas.
  • Burning with Anger: Can be interpreted as this, considering they are on fire and loathe anything that resembles an egg.
  • Does Not Like Spam: Eggs, to the point where it even hates Eggabell just for being so egg adjacent.
  • Giant Flyer: They are capable of flight and have the potential of growing to gargantuan sizes.
  • Guilt by Association Gag: Because of its hatred for the Devilled Egglers found around Broken Tooth, scanning it reveals that it also hates the regular Egglers and Eggabell, despite the fact that neither one of them appears on the island.
  • Wreathed in Flames: They are even on fire when they aren't mad.

Desserts

    Bopsicle, Paletoss, Scoopy Banoopy

Bopsicle - Big Bopsicle - Paletoss - Paletoss Grande - Scoopy Banoopy

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bugsnax_popsicle_posse.png
Don't come cryin' to me if you get brain freeze!
Voiced by: Michael Schwalbe (Big Bopsicle & Scoopy Banoopy), Courtenay Taylor (Bopsicle), Robbie Daymond (Paletoss Grande), Cristina Vee (Paletoss),

Bopsicles and Paletosses are large atlas beetle-esque snax that resembles a double popsicle and a double paleta respectively, have an icy aura to them, and will freeze anyone who gets close to them. They are aggressive and territorial, but are also breakable. The Big Bopsicle is located in Sugarpine Woods and the Paletoss Grande is located in Boiling Bay.

The Scoopy Banoopy works similarly in that it's aggressive and capable of freezing you, but is more similar in appearance to a giant water bug crossed with a banana split. It is located on the Frosted Peak and will break into two Banoppers, one Cheery, and one Scoopy upon contact with fire. Additionally, Gramble seems to have one as a pet, named Banatalie.

  • Animal Motifs: Atlas beetles for the Bopsicles and Paletosses, and giant water bugs for the Scoopy Banoopy.
  • Asteroids Monster: Should one of the three larger ones' ice aura be melted away, a Scoopy Banoopy will soon become two Banoppers, one Cheery, and one Scoopy, a Big Bopsicle will split into two Bopsicles, and a Paletoss Grande will split into two Paletosses.
  • Dumb Muscle: They have deep, gruff voices and strong tackles. However, they're not quite the best at avoiding running into trees or water/lava/campfires that can melt them and cause them to split.
  • The Dreaded: Sherbies and Scoopys are afraid of Paletoos Grande and Scoopy Banoopy respectively. The latter is quite odd, considering Scoopy is a component of them.
  • The Eeyore: The Scoopy Banoopy looks and sounds like it's constantly sad. This does not reflect in its behavior, however.
  • Guide Dang It!: Catching any of these Snax is a tough job, but the Scoopy Banoopy is arguably tougher considering that you can't make it run into anything to stun it. It's a lot easier to catch if you know that the Trip Shot can be set on fire.
  • An Ice Person: They will freeze you if you get too close.
  • Kill It with Water: While not the best strategy, they can be thawed out if they are lured into a body of water.
  • Monstrous Mandibles: The Scoopy Banoopy has bananas for jaws, and they are surprisingly strong.
  • Punched Across the Room: All three of them do this plus freezing you solid.
  • Punny Name: The Bopsicle is a popsicle that wants to bop you. The Paletoss is a paletanote  that can toss you.
  • Purple Is Powerful: The Bopsciles are purple in color and are by far the most dangerous Bugsnax in the Sugarpine Woods.
  • Tough Beetles: The Bopsicles and Paletosses resemble atlas beetles and are very strong, as they can fling nearly anything into the air.
  • Weak to Fire: Melting their ice is needed to catch them, but such also causes the bigger ones to split apart.

    Cinnasnail

Cinnasnail

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bugsnax_cinnasnail.PNG
These are prolly 3,000,000 cals, bro. Talk about a carbo load!
Voiced by: Haviland Stillwell

Cinnamon roll snails that like to hang out in high, out-of-reach places, found in Sugarpine Woods. Players can either figure out how to get to the Cinnasnail or lure it to them with chocolate.

  • Animal Motifs: Grove snails.
  • Eye on a Stalk: Just like actual snails, their eyes are also located on a pair of stalks.
  • Mellow Fellow: It's described as "Leisurely, oblivious, congested."
  • Truth in Television: The Summer of Bugsnax guide states that Cinnasnails will ruin drywall. This is true for real-life African land snails, which are known for eating the calcium found in drywall.

    Hunnabee

Hunnabee

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bugsnax_hunnabee.PNG
I heard honey is sometimes used as medicine. So it's healthy!
Voiced by: Abby Trott

Flying honey dippers covered in sticky honey. Angering one causes it to start slinging honey at the player, slowing down their movements.

  • Animal Motifs: Honeybees.
  • Bee Afraid: Downplayed for laughs. Should you try to shoot one out of the sky with the sauce slinger, the entire swarm will become enraged and dive bomb you… only to get stuck on the ground just because of how sticky they are.
  • Painting the Medium: Getting sauced by a Hunnabee is signified by an oozing film melting over the screen.
  • Status Infliction Attack: Should a Hunabee manage to touch the player, then will find that they will be slowed for a few seconds.
  • Sticky Situation: Their main gimmick is just how sticky they are. Anything they touch will forcefully stick to them and make them too heavy to move. This can be used as a good chance to nab them.
  • Visual Pun: Using a Hunnabee to change someone's hair results in it becoming a honey dipper. In other words, you gave them a beehive hairdo.

    Kwookie, Cheezer, Chippie

Kwookie - Cheezer - Chippie

When faced with danger, it will always cheese it.
Voiced by: Jeannie Tirado (Kwookie), Cristina Vee (Cheezer), Abby Trott (Chippie)

Very fast Snax that look like spiders crossed with cookies/crackers. They generally zip about on a fixed path and are nigh-impossible to catch with a standard trap, prompting you to mainly use the Trip Shot to acquire them.

Kwookies are found in Sugarpine Woods and resemble Oreo-esque sandwich cookies. Cheezers are found in Sizzlin' Sands and look like two Ritz-style crackers with cheese in the middle. Chippies are found on the Frosted Peak and look like chocolate chip cookies.

  • Animal Motifs: Huntsman spiders.
  • Friendly Neighborhood Spider: They are by far the cutest spider-like Bugsnax in the game.
  • Fragile Speedster: They're some of the fastest snax out there, easily being able to outmaneuver traps, but outside of that, they have little in the way of defending themselves.
  • Fuzzball Spider: Even more so than the Fryders! They are essentially just circles with noodley limbs.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: According to Shelda, Cheezers will always flee if their lives are on the line.
  • Sneaky Spider: The face they make when you fail to catch them definitely implies they are this.
  • Wall Crawl: They are able to scale the sides of flat surfaces for an easy way to stay out of reach.

    Charmallow, Chillynilly

I tried to hug one but it gave me the cold shoulder.
Voiced by: Cristina Vee (Charmallow), Todd Haberkorn (Chillynilly)

Two flying Bugsnax that look like a smore and an ice cream sandwich respectively. Charmallow is always on fire and needs to be put out before it can be caught. Chillynilly will freeze you, so find some way to warm it up.

  • Animal Motifs: Fireflies. (Charmallow is literally on fire.)
  • Fire/Ice Duo: Charmallow and Chillynilly respectively.
  • Human Popsicle: A Charmallow can actually be found iced inside the icy caves that just so happen to be the homes of their ice cream counterparts.
  • An Ice Person: Chillynilly freezes at the touch.
  • Lighting Bug: Averted. Despite being based on fireflies, you very rarely use them as a light source.
  • Kill It with Water: You can catch either of them by dousing them in water.
  • Nocturnal Mooks: As expected from a firefly, they will only come out when it gets dark.
  • Shout-Out: Snorpy's comment on the Charmallow references a memetic line from The Wicker Man (2006). Kevin Zuhn has stated that the film was a point of inspiration for the themes of Bugsnax.
"How'd it get burned? How'd it get buuurned!??"
  • Weak to Fire: Chillynilly must be heated up to catch it.
  • Wreathed in Flames: Charmallow is constantly on fire. Oddly enough, despite being based on something that involves no spicy ingredients whatsoever, it's classified as a Spicy Bugsnak.

    Sprinklepede

Where did the center go? Is there a Sprinklepede Hole running around!?
Voiced by: Julie Nathanson

A donut Snax that likes to cling to high places. If jostled from its perch, it turns on its side and rolls away at high speeds. Found in Sugarpine Woods.

  • Animal Motifs: Millipedes.
  • Creepy Centipedes: Well, Millipedes in this case. However, this trope is averted, as they look more like a cute donut then they do like a nasty creepy crawler.
  • Fragile Speedster: Can roll down the incline it's found on, making it difficult to catch. Like the Kwookie and its cousins, though, it has little else as a defense.
  • Rolling Attack: It actually uses this as a means for a quick escape.
  • Torso with a View: Or rather a midsection with a view, which is obvious it would have, considering it is a donut…
  • Wall Crawl: A single one can be seen on the side of the watch tower.

    Scoopie, Sherbie

Scoopie - Sherbie

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bugsnax_ice_cream_cronies.PNG
Voiced by: Robbie Daymond (Scoopie), Abby Trott (Sherbie)

Burrowing Bugsnax that resemble triple-scoop ice cream cones. A Scoopy is part of a Scoopy Banoopy.

  • Afraid of Their Own Strength: Implied, since the Scoopy is afraid of the Scoopy Banoopy, which it is a component of.
  • Animal Motifs: Ice worms.
  • Dig Attack: They are able to bury into the ground and jump back up to fire some icy projectiles.
  • Edible Ammunition: They are able to shoot ice cream balls that can freeze anything they touch.
  • An Ice Person: Not only do they freeze you on contact, but they can also sling scoops of freezing ice cream.
  • Shout-Out: Gramble's comment on the Sherbienote  is a reference to The Love Bug, which has a protagonist named Herbie.
  • Weak to Fire: They must be heated up to be captured. Knowing this, Sherbie will flee from the Journalist if they're on fire.
  • Worm Sign: They leave any icy variant while burrowing underground.

Voiced by: Jeremy Guskin

Mochi Bugsnax that travel in groups of three.

  • All in a Row: There are at least three of them which are crammed so closely together that they almost look like a singular bugsnak.
  • Animal Motifs: Millipedes.
  • Creepy Centipedes: Just like Sprinklepede, they too are millipedes. However, it is not only averted because they aren't scary looking, but also because they don't have any legs.
  • An Ice Person: They leap at and freeze anything in their path.
  • Living Mood Ring: They can change their color and flavor based on they are feeling. Their default color is mint, but they will change to strawberry when excited, or lemon when they are angry.
  • Weak to Fire: Burning away their ice is needed to catch them.

Fascinating, this cover appears to be some form of crystallized Snakmatter.
Voiced by: Andrew Morgado

A pie Snax. The cover on its head needs to be removed before it can be shrunk with Shrink Spice.

  • Animal Motifs: Trilobites.
  • Gem Tissue: According to Floofty, its cover is actually crystalized snaxmatter.
  • "Get Back Here!" Boss: Or rather, Mook. You have to pull off the tabs connecting its cover to its body with the Snak Grappler before you can shrink it, but as soon as you pull off even one, it’ll start running away from you, meaning you have to chase it in order to pull off the rest of them.

Snacks

Snakpods (Crispy, Twisty, Grumpy, Nutty, Meaty, Puffy, Melty, Fruity)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bugsnax_snakpods.png
Ugh, these Snax are going straight to my thighs! And my feet, ears, nose, teeth-
Voiced by: Cristina Vee

Stationary Snax are about as lazy as their voice implies. Arguably the easiest Snax to capture, as they never move from their spawn points at all. They are all based on real-world snacks and foods in bags; potato chips/crisps, pretzels, gummy bears (or in this case gummy Grumpuses), trail mix, beef jerky, puffy snack mix, melt-in-your-mouth candy, and dried fruit, respectively.

  • Animal Motifs: Bagworms.
  • Shout-Out: Filbo's comment on the Melty Snakpod is a reference to the M&M's slogan, "melts in your mouth, not in your hands".
  • Stationary Enemy: Catching one you found is even easier than finding it. The Snakgrappler is the ideal tool to use, but in most cases, you can simply walk up to one and capture it in your net.
  • Visual Pun: Snack bags based on bagworms.

    Sweetieflies

Voiced by: Courtenay Taylor

Flittering, flying lollipops that come in peppermint, rock candy, Valentine's Day pink heart candy, and rainbow swirl. The candy and stick form the body while the wings are ribbons.

  • Animal Motifs: Dragonflies.
  • Cheery Pink: While all Sweetieflys are cheerful, the Lovely variant, in particular, screams it since it looks like a pink heart.
  • Crystalline Creature: The Crystal Sweetifly, obviously.
  • Dreadful Dragonfly: Defied. While they do resemble dragonflies, these Bugsnax are actually quite, well, sweet.
  • Fragile Speedster: Too fast to be caught in traps normally. However, they need to land to rest, making them vulnerable.
  • Gem Tissue: The Crystal Sweetiefly's head and thorax are made of rock candy.
  • Hypno Trinket: Discussed. Snorpy seems to think the Rainbow Sweetifly's patterns are intentionally hypnotic.

    Sodies

Dr. Sodie - La Sodieux - Mt. Sodie - Sodie D

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bugsnax_sodies.png
Who gave this Sodie a medical license!?
Voiced by: Abby Trott

Cans of soda that crawl around on straws and can shoot liquid. They tend to hate sauces and will go out of their way to wash away the offending substances.

  • Animal Motifs: Shrimp (Dr. and Mt. are crystal red and green jade, respectively).
  • Bland-Name Product: Named slightly to the left of certain brand names, such as Dr. Pepper, La Croix, Mountain Dew, and Sunny D.
  • Making a Splash: Not only are they often found in water, but they can also shoot geysers from their straws. This trope is downplayed when you remember that shooting water is the only water-related attack they can do.
  • Neat Freak: They are unusual in that they actually dislike all condiments and will attempt to wash nearby stains away, making them irritating when trying to bait other Bugsnax near water (although this is offset by Sodies being one of the easiest Bugsnax to capture).
  • Not That Kind of Doctor: Humorously, Eggabell thinks Dr. Sodies are actual doctors when they are obviously not. And to add to that hilarious misunderstanding, these Sodies don't appear to be a doctor of anything!
  • Shout-Out: Gramble's comment on Sodie D references a common set-up for old Sunny D commercials.
"We got Sodie, Peelbugs, purple stuff and... two kinds of Sodie D!"
  • Take That!: Cromdo has some choice words regarding La Sodieux, or La Croix in other words.
"Wow, this tastes like water. But bad."
  • Xtreme Kool Letterz: Chandlo's comment on Mt. Sodie is about how "Xtreme" it is.

    Cheepoofs

Cheepoofs (Regular, White, Flamin')

Don't breathe in that cheese dust. That's how I got orange lung!
Voiced by: Courtenay Taylor

Cheese puffs that can be found in the Sizzlin' Sands, Scorched Gorge, and Boiling Bay. They tend to fly around over cliffs, making catching them a bit of a puzzle. Of note, a Cheepoof is part of a Preying Picantis.

  • Animal Motifs: Lepidopteransnote .
  • Nocturnal Mooks: The white ones will only come out at night.
  • Pretty Butterflies: They are very peaceful lepidopteran-like creatures. Especially the White ones at night time.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Beffica's comment could be a reference to "The Cooler Daniel" meme, on top of possibly referencing Cool Ranch Doritos.
      "AKA the cooler Cheepoof."
    • Flamin' Cheepoof is a reference to Flamin' Hot Cheetos.
  • Wreathed in Flames: Flamin' Cheepoofs are literally flaming.

Initially, the Poptick is just a kernel and needs fire to be popped. Otherwise, it's so small that it can slip through the net. The Caramel Poptick comes already popped, but the issue is finding one.

  • Animal Motifs: Ticks. A popped Poptick resembles a tick that has been fed.
  • Out Of Control Popcorn: They jump all over the place, especially when they are popped. There is a reason why Shellda sees them as chaos personified.
  • Random Number God: The Caramel Poptick is the only Bugsnax that relies on alternate weather conditions to appear, in this case being rain. Since it depends on luck, this can be the hardest Snax to catch.
  • Shout-Out: Triffany's comment on the Poptick is a reference to the Pringles slogan, "Once you pop, the fun don't stop".
  • Weak to Fire: Poptick must be set on fire to be popped and big enough to trap.

    Chocolant

Chocolant

Like all bullies, they become cowardly when shrunk.
Voiced by: Shelby Young

An ant made up of three different kinds of chocolate chips. They grow in size when exposed to open air, and often hitch rides of the back of Cellystixes.

  • Animal Motifs: Bulldog ants.
  • Dirty Coward: According to Floofty, they're in need of a lot of weight to throw around.
  • Keep Away: A trio of them will do this with the buggy ball if it is covered in chocolate or peanut butter.
  • Monstrous Mandibles: They have two sets of powerful mandibles which they can use to grasp onto objects.
  • Strong Ants: And said objects can be as large as a trampoline.

Boss Snax

    In General

Five massive Bugsnax who serve as bosses who The Journalist must defeat on behalf of a Grumpus who wishes to eat it. They have abilities and strength beyond those of any other Bugsnak, requiring you to think on your feet and make good use of your tools to bring them down to size. The Isle of BIGsnax storyline has the fifth Boss Snak, that being Cheddaboardle Rex.

  • Border Patrol: An in-universe example. It seems these legendary Bugsnaxs are the ones that make sure the Grumpuses are not able to leave Snaktooth Island. This is seen with Mothza Supreme, who crashes the Journalist's ship, and Megamaki, who is implied to be the one that dragged the ship Lizbert and co. used to get to the island all the way down into the ocean floor.
  • Born-Again Immortality: Implied. While not stated, it is implied that these Bugsnaxs expire, and they will be reborn as their minions. This makes sense considering the Baby Cakelegs were originally a part of Daddy Cakelegs, and the Minimakis have the potential of replacing their leader the same way the Sandopedes do.
  • Large and in Charge: Implied. It seems that each of these gigantic Bugsnax rule over their respective areas. And considering the Bugsnax Queen is composed of all of them combined, then they are definitely the authority figures of the Bugsnax.
  • Optional Boss: All of them are found in final sidequests whose completion isn't required to reach any ending of the game.
  • Replay Mode: When one of them is defeated, a statue of them will be created in the area you fight them in. By interacting with these statues, you can challenge them again for a rematch.

    Mama and Wee Mewons

Mama Mewon - Wee Mewon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bugsnax_mewon.png
Voiced by: Michael Schwalbe (Mama Mewon), Jeannie Tirado (Wee Mewon)

Found in the Flavor Falls, during Chandlo's quest to eat the biggest, strongest Bugsnak. Mama Mewon is shaped like a full watermelon with legs while the Wee Mewons are little melon balls with seeds for feet. While the Mama is highly aggressive, particularly towards any potential harm to its babies, the babies in question seem more curious than anything.

  • Adorable Evil Minions: The Wee Mewons are by far the cutest minions that a legendary Bugsnax could have.
  • Animal Motifs: Wood ticks. Mama resembles one engorged with blood.
  • Bouncing Battler: The Wee Mewons bounce all over the place when they are excited. However, they don't do this to harm the player, but rather just because it's fun for them.
  • Bullfight Boss: Defeating Mama requires netting her babies, inciting them to charge the Snak Trap to destroy it. Position the Trap in front of a statue to stun it, then use the grappler to pull a stalagmite down onto it.
  • Cephalothorax: These Snax each have their limbs and eyes on the same body segment.
  • Collateral Damage: In addition to wrecking the surrounding cave, Mama is also prone to mowing down the Wee Mewons in its attempt to crush the Snak Trap.
  • Fearless Fool: Justified because they're so young, but the Wee Mewons will bounce into the Snak Trap of their own volition and seem to be attracted to it.
  • Green and Mean: Mama Mewon is green in color and has a mean personality. Chandlo even lampshades this if you manage to scan her.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Mama Mewon can only be damaged if she is impaled by the various stalactites.
  • Leitmotif: "Mama Mewon's Lair".
  • Mama Bear: Mama Mewon will clobber anyone that messes with its babies. The Journalist and Chandlo use this to their advantage to catch it.
  • One-Winged Angel: After Mama Mewon is impaled three times, her back will fall apart on itself. however, these pieces will then transform into large Floating Limbs. These limbs make her not only faster but stronger as well.
  • Shout-Out: Chandlo's commentnote  is a reference to Little Shop of Horrors.

    Megamaki, Minimaki

Megamaki - Minimaki

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bugsnax_maki.png
If you make this prima donna mad, then roe betide you!
Voiced by: Todd Haberkorn (Megamaki), Courtenay Taylor (Minimaki)

Summoned in the Boiling Bay in Wiggle's quest for ultimate inspiration, the Megamaki is actually only the head, with the rest of the body being a long chain of Minimakis. It will swim and fly throughout the Bay during its encounter.

  • All in a Row: The Megamaki is comprised of one Megamaki followed by a long line of Minimaki.
  • Animal Motifs: Bristle worms, also known as polychaetes, are a type of sea creature.
  • Asteroids Monster: Using the Trip Shot causes it to break apart into its components, giving the player limited time to catch all the Minimaki before it reforms.
  • Creepy Centipedes: The developers have often described this snak as being a "sea centipede". Given they have dozens of "legs", and when lined up appear to have a segmented body, description is decently accurate.
  • Cyclops: The Minimakis are the only Bugsnax to have only one eye.
  • Flight: Despite lacking wings, they are still somehow able to fly.
  • Flying Seafood Special: Literally, it's based on seafood and can fly without any obvious means of doing so.
  • Leitmotif: "Megamaki Attack". There's also "The Megamaki Serenade" sung by Wiggle prior to facing it.
  • Music Soothes the Savage Beast: Wiggle is able to summon it by singing a song. Although it doesn't soothe them; instead, all it does is make them go on the attack.
  • Our Dragons Are Different: Conceptually and behaviorally reminiscent of a dragon, plus it's even designed after a type of sushi called a dragon roll.
  • Sea Serpent: According to Wiggle, this Bugsnax was swimming in the distant ocean, and greatly resembles a dragon. Thus, making it a sea serpent.
  • Segmented Serpent: Although, it isn't even a proper serpent, but rather just a conga line of sapient sushi.
  • Throw Down the Bomblet: Can shoot exploding salmon roe-looking eggs, which can make it tricky to place down your tools.

    Mothza Supreme, Bombino

Mothza Supreme - Bombino

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bugsnax_mothza_bombino.png
Voiced by: Rick Zieff (Mothza Supreme), Julie Nathanson (Bombino)

Encountered in the Sizzling Sands while helping Cromdo, Mothza Supreme is the Snax responsible for crashing the Journalist's ship on Snaktooth Island, thus marooning them. Mothza is a full pizza wheel while the Bombinos are pizza pockets — more precisely, the "sauce ooze" worming out of the "dough".

  • Action Bomb: The Bombinos are capable of detonating themselves if threatened.
  • Animal Motifs: Luna moths and case-bearer caterpillars, respectively.
  • Butterfly of Death and Rebirth: Mothza can be considered this, as they return near the end of the game despite the fact they were clearly devoured by Cromdo.
  • Clipped-Wing Angel: Quite literally as each time it is damaged, it looses more and more of its wing mass until the point it can't control itself and its flight has become completely erratic. Plus, it summons a large tornado around itself which can shield it from its minions. Most of the time...
  • Collateral Damage: Mothza's twisters can actually suck up the Bombinos and fling them into the air. Not only will this stun them, but it will also extinguish their flames.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Mothza is actually the very first Bugsnax encountered, as it is responsible for crashing the Journalist's ship into the island. It can also be seen and scanned flying above the area.
  • Every Pizza Is Pepperoni: Downplayed. While Mothza does have some pepperoni on it, it also has black olives, champignons, salami, green bell peppers, and even onions.
  • Flunky Boss: Uniquely, the Bombinos present in its fight are aggressive.
  • Leitmotif: "Mothza Supreme Descends".
  • Kill It with Water: The Bombinos will retreat into their shells if the slightest amount of water touches them.
  • Made of Explodium: The Bombinos explode when thrown.
  • Moth Menace: Mothza is by far the most menacing Bugsnax on the island and resembles a gigantic moth.
  • Punny Name: Bombino — bomb, because it's spicy and explodes, combined with bambino, an Italian word meaning "baby".
    • "Mothza" is also pronounced very similarly to the "mozza-" in "mozzarella", the classic topping of the classic margherita pizza.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Mothza is a letter off from Mothra.
    • Bombino could also be a reference to Totino's, a brand of pizza rolls.
    • The cheese droplets on the edges of Mothza Supreme's wings make it resemble a specific kind of moth called a "luna moth", which brings to mind the lyrics to Dean Martin's "That's Amore" (which Cromdo quotes when you scan it).
  • Wind from Beneath My Wings: Mothza can flap its wings to summon small and large tornadoes to knock you down.
  • Wreathed in Flames: Cromdo describes the Bombinos as being tiny volcanoes. And just like volcanoes, they are burning hot.

    Daddy and Baby Cakelegs

Daddy Cakelegs - Baby Cakelegs

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bugsnax_cakelegs.png
Is it the Bugsnak's birthday? Is it MY birthday!?
Voiced by: Fred Tatasciore (Daddy Cakelegs), Julie Nathanson (Baby Cakelegs)

Uncovered in Frosted Peak when approached by Snorpy, Daddy Cakelegs is a multi-tiered ice cream cake with candles for legs while its components, the Baby Cakelegs, are ice cream cake slices.

  • Adorable Evil Minions: The Babies are this. And their cute, bubbly voices definitely help.
  • All in a Row: How the Babies will follow after Daddy.
  • Animal Motifs: Daddy longlegs (adult and juvenile, respectively).
  • Asteroids Monster: Each phase is marked by one of Daddy Cakelegs' tiers splitting into Babies, which then follow behind it.
  • Carrying a Cake: Or rather a cake that carries itself.
  • Edible Ammunition: It will use one of its limbs as a blow dart to shoot an ice scream scoop that freezes anything it touches.
  • Extra Eyes: Just like a few other spider-based Bugsnax, he also has four eyes. Although it is later subverted as he will lose these extra eyes during the transition to the final phase of his fight.
  • Friendly Neighborhood Spider: The Baby Cakelegs are these, even though they aren't based on a true spider.
  • Giant Spider: While he isn't based on a true spider, he is definitely the next best thing. Plus, he is gigantic in size!
  • He Was Right There All Along: In one of the caves with the frozen Bugsnax, there is a large mound of snow. He doesn't play too much of a role in the story… that is, until the Journalist and Snorpy return to discover a candle sticking out.
  • An Ice Person: Summons ice spires during its encounter. As well, it will lob ice cream to freeze the player.
  • Leitmotif: "Cakequake!"
  • Odd Name Out: Before the Isle of BIGsnax update, he was the only Boss Snak to not have a name starting with 'M'.
  • Puzzle Boss: Rather than confronting it directly, the key to the boss focuses on lighting its candles.
  • Spin Attack: One of his attacks is spinning his legs rapidly which will then kick up a small blizzard, which then proceeds to cause more ice spires to form.
  • Wall Crawl: Gains this ability in their final phase.
  • Weak to Fire: He really does not like having their candles lit. Although this makes sense considering he is an ice cream cake.

    Cheddaboardle Rex

Cheddaboardle Rex

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2022_05_06_094937.png
Voiced by: Andrew Morgado

The “king of the jungle” Bugsnak and the final boss of the Isle of Bigsnax storyline. Its minions are the Cheddorbs that can be found around the island, though it uses them more as ammunition than anything else.

  • Animal Motifs: Dung beetles.
  • Fastball Special: It tries to throw Cheddorbs at you.
  • Final Boss: Of the Isle of BIGsnax storyline combined with the events that precede it; considering that the Broken Tooth doesn't appear until Chandlo's and Snorpy's sidequests are all completed, Mama Mewon and Daddy Cakelegs must be defeated to encounter this Snak.
  • Flunky Boss: It uses the Cheddorbs rolling around the isle as minions.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: The player has to pelt it with its own Cheddorbs in order to break the lid on its back.
  • No Item Use for You: It tosses the Big Buggy Ball out of the arena at the start of the fight, forcing you to load the catapults in the temple with its Cheddorb minions instead.
  • Tough Beetles: Probably the toughest one of them all!

Other

    The 112th Bugsnak (UNMARKED SPOILERS)

Cappucceetle

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2022_05_06_094406.png
I've named him Joey Quickbeans. He is my best friend. I have been here for a very long time.
Voiced by: Shelby Young

The fastest Bugsnak in existence. It can only be found in a room in the Triplicate Space, and will flee outside into the wilds of Snaktooth once the player wakes it up. Once it sees you, you have to be quick to catch it, or else it’ll end up running to an entirely different outer region of the island.

  • Animal Motifs: Since you find it underground and it is inevitably "reborn" somehow after you catch it, it might be based on scarabs. Its ridiculously quick speed could also be based on Tiger Beetles, which are the fastest beetles ever known.
  • Cute, but Cacophonic: It's small, adorable, and very screechy.
  • Fragile Speedster: It's so fast that it's immune to the Snak Trap, and it's apparently perceptive enough for the Trip Shot to block its path instead of stun it. However, any other Bugsnax crashing into it will make it vulnerable to capture.
  • Klatchian Coffee: This is probably the reason why they are so stinking fast, and how it is so hard to catch.
  • Scarab Power: It lives in the bizarre Triplicate Space, can race to corners of the island almost instantly, and resembles a beetle.
  • Shout-Out: Cappucceetle, the fastest snak alive!
  • Superboss: Just trying to catch it is harder than saving the grumpuses from the murderous Bugsnax in the Final Battle.
  • Super-Speed: This thing can run from one part of the island to another in literal seconds and can even run on the surface of the water.
  • Walk on Water: Thanks to its great speed, it can skid across the surface of the ocean as if it was frozen.

    The Cryptid (UNMARKED SPOILERS)

Snaxsquatch

Voiced by: Tom Taylorson

A mysterious creature composed of different Bugsnax that has been stalking the Grumpuses across Snaktooth Island.

  • Benevolent Monsters: Aside from a possible moment where it appears to kill you in the Undersnax if you go down the wrong path, all it really does is look and act creepy, as it'll disappear if stared at for too long. This turns out to be justified, as it's actually a construct of Lizbert's, who designed it to keep an eye on everyone else and attempt to communicate with them about the dangers of the bugsnax.
  • Bigfoot, Sasquatch, and Yeti: It's a humanoid creature made out of Bugsnax, which turns out to be a golem Lizbert created to try and communicate with the others.
  • Golem: The game files describe it as being one, and it definitely fits considering it is essentially a person made entirely out of food.
  • Horned Humanoid: The Strabby and the Scoopy definitely make it look like one.
  • Mix-and-Match Critters: It's made of pieces of ten different Bugsnax: a Tropicabug, a Strabby, a Scoopy, a Green Peelbug, a Fryder, a Sweetiefly, a Cheepoof, a Shiskabug, a Bunger, and a Cinnasnail.
  • Mysterious Watcher: Some of the townsfolk say that in the dead of night, they sometimes see a strange Grumpus-like silhouette around the island seemingly staring at them. You yourself can spot it in certain areas staring back at you and disappearing if you get too close. It's eventually revealed to be a Bugsnax-based creation of Lizbert who's become a gigantic Bugsnax herself. She uses it to monitor the village while she has to stay underground to keep the Bugsnax under control.
  • The Worm That Walks: They are really just a bunch of Bugsnax stacked on top of each other that seem to bare the crude resemblance of a grumpus.
