Diabolos

Diabolos is a legal wizard guild on Guiltina that consists entirely of Fifth generation Dragon Slayers, also known as Dragon Eaters, who gained their powers by devouring dragons. It was created by Georg Raizen in an attempt to fulfill the titular 100 Years Quest after he himself took the job, but was rejected after breaking the secrecy agreement with Elefseria.

    Diabolos in General
  • The Ace: Not only are they a legal guild on Guiltina, but they're considered the strongest guild in Guiltina.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: Despite their impressive first showing as well as proving to be difficult foes for Fairy Tail, ultimately they fail to bring down the very Dragon Gods they seek to devour. And when it looks like their luck turns when they captured Selene, she kills their guild master and makes herself the new leader.
  • Bizarro Elements: Possibly because they are Dragon Eaters, some of their Dragon Slayer Magic run on unusual elemental attributes such as "Blades", "Armor", "Corpse" (actually ash, apparently), "Ghost", "Clinginess" and even "Sword Saint".
  • Cannibalism Superpower: As their name suggests, Dragon Eaters are Dragon Slayers who eat dragons to acquire their powers.
  • Cool Boat: One of their bases is located on a giant pirate ship created from Skullion's ash magic.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Kiria, Madmole, and Skullion all have the dubious honor of getting one of these handed to them at some point or another by Laxus.
  • Dangerous Forbidden Technique: According to Skullion, all Fifth Generation Dragon Slayers can use Dragon Force, but theirs not only works differently from standard Dragon Force, but its use in combat is strictly prohibited under normal circumstances, to the point where Skullion plans to declare Nebaru K.I.A. for using it rather than tell his master the truth. This is because their Dragon Force speeds up the dragonification process, turning whoever uses it into a dragon in a matter of moments.
  • Heel–Face Turn: With the exception of the deceased Georg and the depowered Nebaru, the entirety of Diabolos pull one following the confrontation with Dogramog in the labyrinth, helped by Natsu and Suzaku becoming Fire-Forged Friends in their fight with him, although some of them were never really villainous to begin with. There is still some animosity between Laxus and Kirin, but it's treated more akin to how Natsu and Gajeel regularly butt heads than anything serious.
  • Meaningful Name: "Diabolos" is the Greek word for "Devil".
  • Oddly Small Organization: Despite being the strongest legal wizard guild in Guiltina, Diabolos has several members such as Skullion and his team and the Dark Dragon Slayer Knights, the elites of Georg Reizen and later Selene. Chapter 118 reveals that there were dozen more members of Diabolos being seen in the background when Fairy Tail and Diabolos made their peace with a dining party after the defeat of Dogramag.
  • Removed Achilles' Heel: While it hasn't been confirmed how, Dragon Eaters don't have the same issues of motion sickness as normal Dragon Slayers.
  • Villain: Exit, Stage Left: In round two against the heroes, both Erza and Natsu manage to turn the tables on Kiria and Madmole respectively. Just as Gray gets back on his feet and is set to join in, Skullion decides it's time to cut and run before bothering fighting him again, knowing he's outmatched with his teammates weakened and Wendy neutralizing his offensive magic.
  • Villain Has a Point: Their way of gaining Dragon Slayer Magic is to eat dragons. While Natsu disapproves of this method of gaining power, it should be noted that the majority of dragons were malevolent to humans and would have no problem eating humans themselves, with only a handful of dragons being more compassionate and were willing to co-exist with humans.
  • Villains With Good Publicity: While their actions are ones normally associated with Dark Guilds, Diabolos is an official guild recognized by Guiltina, Elefseria noting that despite the deplorable behavior of their Guild Master Georg, the Guild hasn't actually done anything illegal, and are in fact considered the strongest of Guiltina's guilds.

Guild Master

    Georg Reizen

Georg Reizen

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/georg_3.png

The Dragon Eater guild master of Diabolos.

  • Bad Boss: While he never punishes Skullion's team for their repeated failures to bring him the Dragon Gods, plus Suzaku and Elefseria's recount of him indicates he killed several of the dragons that he then allowed his subordinates to eat themselves to gain their Dragon Slayer magic, it's clear Georg is more respected for his strength than charisma or leadership. He's not above insulting his subordinates' abilities, and while he did allow Kirin to eat Elexion's flesh to gain his power he brushed off the boy's mental torment from Elexion's spirit. Plus, Misaki states that he used to sexually harass the girls. After Selene kills him to take control of Diabolos, after they get over their shock pretty much all of the Dragon Eaters admit they're not really broken up about his death, with Suzaku's attempt to defy Selene being more about honor than anything and he eventually gave up on it without a fuss.
  • Badass Cape: He wears a cape laid over with dragon scale and horns.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: He demands a captive Selene to transform into her true Dragon form so that he can have the satisfaction of defeating her and claiming her power himself. He regrets it.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: He's built up as one of the major threats to the heroes, being the leader and strongest member of a whole guild of dragon-eating mages, only to almost literally bite off more than he can chew when one of the very Dragon Gods he desired to eat kills him herself.
  • Covered in Scars: Almost all the available skin shown on his body is covered in scars, presumably from the dragons he fought and devoured. Kirin's flashback set 30 years before the present show him far less scarred and how he got some of those scars after killing Elexion and being heavily bloodied and bandaged up.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: His death at the hands of Selene isn't pretty. After transforming into her dragon form, she crushes him in an instant. All that's left of him is a bloody splat on the floor and an arm that broke off when Selene smashed him.
  • Dented Iron: Implied to be why he's an Orcus on His Throne in the present for the hunt over the Dragon Gods. In his youth he killed many of the surviving dragons of Guiltina, but the flashback to the aftermath of his fight with Elexion shows him horribly beaten up and bloodied and several existing deep scars, and he only got more of them by the present-day 30 years later. Coupled with how he fed the slain dragon flesh to his subordinates to make them Dragon Eaters and sent them out to hunt down the Dragon Gods and bring them back for him to devour, it's implied he simply didn't trust himself to survive a full-out fight with dragons of god-like might. Of course, he still manages to underestimate Selene's apparent injured state and pays for it with his life.
  • The Dragonslayer: According to Elefseria, Georg killed many of the surviving dragons, including Kurnugi and Elexion, in Guiltina aside from the Five Dragon Gods personally.
  • Evil Old Folks: Kirin's flashback to his childhood 30 years ago shows Georg already grown-up and somewhat old-looking, meaning he'd have to be at least in his late 60s by the present.
  • Famed In-Story: Elefseria when prompted gives a surprisingly glowing account of the man's ability and prowess (though he's less than cordial about Georg's personality) not realizing that at this point Georg is already dead.
  • Fangs Are Evil: Fitting for a Dragon Slayer, Georg has them, and his might well be the biggest and most pronounced of any Dragon Slayer.
  • The Four Gods: His "Four Beasts" Dragon Slayer Magic seems to be a reference to them, particularly since his Dark Dragon Slayer Knights, are named after them.
  • Greater-Scope Villain:
    • He's the one who killed Kurnugi, the Sword Saint Dragon whose corpse Suzaku would devour to gain his Sword Saint Dragon Slayer Magic.
    • He's also the one who killed Elexion, not only having Kirin eat him for his power but saving the heart so that he could sell it in Ishgal to anyone who wanted to turn it into a dragon lacrima, which is how Ivan got hold of it and implanted it into Laxus.
  • Informed Ability: He is said to possess the Four Beasts Dragon Slayer Magic, that he has multiple dragon kills under his belt, and his magic power is said to have surpassed that of Suzaku's but Selene kills him before he could even display his power. Averted when a flashback from Kirin post Georg's death finally shows him in the aftermath of some dragon-slaying.
  • Jabba Table Manners: He enjoys eating meat by grabbing the whole thing in his hand and squeezing the juices out directly into his mouth while the meat itself squashed in the process, stating that's the best way to eat it. Noticeably, Skullion looks on with a barely disguised look of disgust at the display.
  • Karmic Death: A Dragon Eater that ends up casually murdered by his own "prey".
  • Meaningful Name: His first name sounds like "Gorge" and even compared to the rest of the guild, he's a glutton.
  • Orcus on His Throne: He's content with sending out his subordinates to hunt down and bring any of the Dragon Gods back to him to feast on while he keeps stuffing his face with plates of meat, despite the fact it's indicated his power is such that he could do the job himself if he wanted to. He did a lot more fighting in his youth, as many of the dragons that Diabolos consumed were killed by him personally, but now he seems to expect his guild to do the heavy lifting for him.
  • Squashed Flat: How he dies, courtesy of Selene crushing him to a bloody smear beneath her claws, no magic or fancy spells whatsoever.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: He states that dragon meat is a one-of-a-kind meal that makes everything else pale before it.
  • Undignified Death: He gets unceremoniously squashed to death on the floor by Selene's claw before he could even attack her with his Four Beasts Dragon Slayer Magic.
  • The Unfought: The heroes never get to meet him due to Selene crushing him into bloody paste in a single attack.
  • Villainous Glutton: While the other Dragon Eaters seem to eat dragons more for their power, Georg is the first to be shown to explicitly enjoy eating dragons for their meat and taste. He expresses dissatisfaction with Aldoron's death in part because he has no interest in eating the earth and wood his body crumbled into.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: Aside from his cape, he doesn't wear any clothing on his upper body, allowing his scars to be shown to the world.
  • Worf Effect: He makes a big show of his plan to kill and eat Selene himself, after which she proceeds to effortlessly crush him underfoot. To his credit, Selene more or less admits after the fact that she never had any intention of fighting him fairly and so attacked at full strength before he could, implying he could have done decent damage if she gave him the chance.
  • "X" Marks the Hero: Subverted. He has an X-shaped scar across his forehead, but is unmistakably a powerful villain.
  • You Have Failed Me: Downplayed. He accepts Skullion and his team's failure to bring him either Mercphobia or Aldoron after hearing their briefing, but he makes it clear that he won't tolerate continued failure and expects them to bring back the Moon Dragon God Selene, sending one of the Dark Dragon Slayer Knights along to ensure it happens.

    Skullion Raider

Skullion Raider

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/e5cf8369_e02c_4513_80cb_785ddbe82f52.png

A Corpse Dragon Eater and high-ranking member of Diabolos who uses the power of ash to teleport himself and others, as well as destroy anything or anyone it touches.

  • Ashes to Ashes: He uses ash to teleport and destroy anything it touches. It can even reduce water and fire into ash. However, it's weak to Wind Magic, as Wendy's Sky Dragon Slayer Magic shows.
  • Badass Cape: Just in case the skeleton armor didn't make him look cool enough, he has a cape for the finishing touch.
  • Bond Villain Stupidity: He lampshades that he should have just killed Natsu and Wendy from the start instead of tying them up to harvest the dragon factor inside their bodies at a later date, as well as forced Kiria to finish off Erza instead of letting her keep her as a slave. In fairness, he couldn't have predicted that Erza could weaken the effects of Kiria's magic and escape to free the Slayers, nor that someone with Brandish's magic would be an ally of theirs and use her powers to ground the ship out of water to remove motion sickness from the equation, but he's not wrong in noting he should have just cut his losses with such "troublesome" foes and turned them into corpses.
  • Dracolich: His attire, his title as the Corpse Dragon Eater, and his magic having Touch of Death properties all seem to echo popular traits of undead dragons.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Has a slight look of disgust when he watches Georg Reizen, his Guild Master, eat a piece of meat by smashing it in his hands and drinking the juices.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: He originally believes Natsu and company intend to kill Mercphobia, which makes them similar, and then scoffs at Natsu's assertion that they intend to help him without bloodshed while stating it doesn't really matter since he's not worth eating to them in his current state.
  • A Father to His Men: He shows concern for Madmole after he's overpowered by Natsu's flames and saves Kiria after Erza sends her flying (despite her annoyance). He also tells Nebaru not to activate his Dragon Force because of the side effects, and the fact that it goes against Diabolos' rules.
  • Hero Killer: Subverted. He seemingly kills Gray by turning his body into ashes. However, it later turns out that Gray was actually saved by Brandish.
  • Intangible Man: Attacks pass right through him when he turns his body into ash.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: Skullion shows multiple times that he has a keen eye for knowing when he and his team have been outmatched, and gradually learns not to take Fairy Tail's power lightly:
    • In the Water Dragon God arc, upon seeing how badly Madmole and Kiria have been injured and with Natsu's reunited and ready to continue the fight, Skullion decides there's nothing to be gained from continuing the battle and teleports them all away, stating We Will Meet Again when all the Dragon Eaters of Diabolos have gathered.
    • In the Wood Dragon God arc, Skullion orders his whole team to pull out and takes his chances with calling in the Dark Dragon Slayer Knights after Kiria and Wraith are defeated by Fairy Tail, believing the enemy is either too numerous or simply that good. He's incensed when Nebaru refuses to obey his orders due to being too obsessed with fighting Wendy, and then horrified when he realizes Nebaru intends to activate Dragon Force.
    • In the Moon Dragon God arc, when Selene gives Diabolos her ultimatum after spelling out her goals, Skullion swears loyalty to her since he has no hope of beating her. He gives Suzaku a wordless but noticeable pleading look when the Dark Dragon Slayer Knight hesitates because it's clear all their lives are hanging by a thread otherwise.
  • The Leader: While he isn't Diabolos' master, he's still high-ranking enough that he calls the shots for Kiria, Madmole, Nebaru, and Wraith.
  • Logical Weakness: Wendy's Sky Dragon Slayer Magic is able to blow away and disperse the ash he creates, leaving him vulnerable to physical attacks.
  • Meaningful Name: His name sounds like "Carrion" or "Skull", appropriately enough.
  • No-Sell: He can turn his body into ash to phase through attacks and can turn offensive spells turned on him into ash to nullify attacks.
  • The Power of Creation: When he and the other Dragon Eaters teleport away, their ship collapses into ash, with Erza wondering aloud if Skullion possesses some sort of "Ash Make" Magic as well. Gray is incredulous, thinking to himself that such "delicate" Maker Magic couldn't make something so intricate.
  • Pretender Diss: Upon learning Mercphobia has had his a majority of his powers stolen by Touka, he declares that he's no longer the Water Dragon God and not worth eating.
  • Skeletons in the Coat Closet: His body is covered in armor made from bones, with a human-sized horned dragon skull serving as his helmet.
  • Touch of Death: Judging from his wording, he can kill people with a touch by turning them into ash. During his battle with Gray, he turns the entire section of ocean they're fighting in into a sea of ash that threatens to spread and engulf Ermina, only stopped by Gray freezing it. He then hits Gray with his "Black Ash" technique that would have dissolved him into ash had Brandish not saved him.
  • Villain Respect: During their battle, he expresses some level of approval at Gray's Ice Demon Slayer powers being able to counter his ash attacks. He later commends Natsu's team for their strength during their second battle.
  • Villain Teleportation: He possesses a form of ash magic that can teleport himself and other people to different locations.
  • The Worf Effect: After having equaled and overpowered Gray in the Water Dragon God Arc and (with Madmole) having stalemated Mirajane and Elfman during the Wood Dragon God Arc to prove he's the real deal, Skullion gets wrecked off-screen by Laxus (despite having Madmole backing him) in the Labyrinth of Dogra to remind everyone once again Laxus is The Ace (and to hype up the confrontation between Laxus and Kirin).

    Kiria

Kiria

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kyria_6.png

The Blade Dragon Eater, who can rend her opponents to pieces.

  • Ambiguously Bi: It's not explicitly stated if she's romantically interested in women, but she cuts up Lucy's Star Dress while saying she looks as "delicious" as a dragon, complete with Lecherous Licking. Later on, she gets really into fighting Erza, complete with a blush, and then takes great pleasure in forcing her to beg for mercy before turning her into a slave. She does, however, develop a crush on Laxus during their battle. It's also telling that when she gets clothes destroyed by Lucy, she angrily says another woman staring at her naked isn't gonna make her quit, only to then all but collapse on herself when Laxus sees her in that state. She later openly states she’s only interested in "strong people" regardless of gender; listing Erza and Laxus simultaneously.
  • Absurdly Sharp Blade: Her Blade Dragon Slayer Magic can slice through metal, water, and clothes without touching the skin. According to her, there's nothing her magic can't cut through, to the point where she can cut through personalities, like when she cuts Erza's "strength" and turns her into a quivering, submissive mess.
  • All Amazons Want Hercules: Kiria, a serious Blood Knight who is on par with Erza and loves nothing more than the thrill of fight, develops a crush on Laxus after he utterly dominates her in combat. She is particularly impressed that he views himself as weak despite his immense power.
  • Beauty Is Never Tarnished: Completely averted after getting pulverized by Lucy's Gottfried spell. She closely resembles a heavily burnt and smoking naked corpse. See Fan Disservice for elaboration. However, when she reappears later, she's mostly fine aside from looking a bit dirty and scuffed up.
  • Blade Below the Shoulder: Her magic is a Laser Blade variant that extends from her hands up to her forearms.
  • Blank White Eyes: After getting utterly decimated by Lucy's Gottfried spell, Kiria is left falling limply from above with her eyes rolled back in her head to show that she's absolutely dead to the world finished. However, later she looks relatively normal after she gets back on her feet and breaks the second-to-last remaining Dogra Core to help Suzaku.
  • Blood Knight: She's just as eager to test her might against Mercphobia as she is to eat him, and expresses disappointment on both accounts when his servant proves to be inadequate in battle and taste. She also doesn't hesitate to engage fellow Dragon Slayer Natsu at a drop of a hat, and gets pumped to cross blades with a swordswoman like Erza, only to call out her partner for getting in the way. Even when expressing disbelief after Laxus beats her to a pulp, she still has an eager desire to turn the tables on him, only to end up falling for him because of his strength when she fails to cut his strength like she did with Erza.
  • Breath Weapon: Her Blade Dragon's Tearing Roar, which seems to fire uncontrollable blades of energy that can slice through rock like tissue paper.
  • Bullying a Dragon:
    • She learns too little, too late that it was a bad idea to brainwash Erza Scarlet into being her slave and thinking she could get away with it.
    • She's confident she can take on Laxus during the Mêlée à Trois in Draseal, only to find herself shocked when he beats her into the ground while he has only lost his shirt in the clash.
    • Despite watching her guild master, acknowledged as far stronger than her, get splattered on the ground by the dragon form of Selene, Kiria still charges her intent on beating her while likely thinking Georg only lost because he got taken off-guard. Selene, with an expression that screams 'that's cute', teleports her to an alternate dimension to deal with her, and if the rest of Diabolos hadn't agreed to serve she likely would have left her there for who-knows-how-long.
  • Butt-Monkey: She gets trounced by Erza, Laxus, Selene, and Lucy chronologically. The last example is particularly humiliating considering the embarrassing state she's left in when the fight is over.
  • Chainmail Bikini: The only thing she has on her upper chest is a chain bikini.
  • Clothing Damage: Suffers this repeatedly during her fight with Lucy. Even Laxus' coat isn't enough; it gets decimated by Lucy's final spell and Kiria is left completely naked, burned everywhere, and smoking up a storm, including from her mouth. She eventually recovers the coat, and it’s in much better shape than expected.
  • Complaining About Rescues They Don't Like: When Erza sends her flying, Skullion uses his magic to catch her before she fall, though she's just pissed that he's holding her in a compromising position.
  • Cowardly Lion: This is the end result of her "cutting someone's strength". Physically they're as strong as they ever were, but mentally they become far more cowardly, submissive, and obedient to her commands.
  • Crush Blush: After breaking a core and stating that Suzaku is her friend and she doesn’t want to lose him to Dogramag, Laxus pats her head while saying with pleasant surprise (and a strong sense of teasing) that she does have a cute side to her after all. This causes her to turn beet red.
  • Curbstomp Battle:
    • She's on the receiving end against Laxus. At most, Kiria cuts his shirt off when his guard is down, but when we cut back to their fight, Laxus is standing over her with not a single scratch while she's on the floor twitching. Then when she thinks she can get the upper hand by cutting his "strength" it doesn't work because he already sees himself as weak later revealed to be due to Faris' Whiteout affecting his mental state. When she does it again to him without said mental interference in the Labyrinth of Dogra, it works as intended. He then proceeds to knock her out in one attack.
    • She gets an even more brutal one at the hands of Selene, who simply teleports her to another dimension while mentioning she could have done worse but didn't because she likes girls with Kiria's attitude, and when she brings her back Kiria is unconscious and out of the fight.
  • Defeat by Modesty: Zig-zagged. After Lucy slices off her clothes, Kiria is embarrassed, but then angrily shouts that she's not gonna let this trope play out especially when Lucy is the only other person here and is a woman at that. Then Laxus pops in and then Kiria all but collapses in embarrassment, only regaining the will to fight when Laxus out of pity gives her his furred coat to wear.
  • Determinator: She actually gets back up after several minutes, even after taking a full-force Gottfried from Lucy, because she feels the need to help her friend Suzaku.
  • Enemy Mine: She would much rather see Dogramag go down with the help of Fairy Tail than lose Suzaku, so she destroys one of his cores in the hopes that it’ll turn the tide.
  • Even Evil Can Be Loved: She and Misaki have a very sisterly relationship.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Misaki definitely counts. Kiria is very respectful and even admiring towards her. She also calls Suzaku her friend and is willing to put aside all her differences with Fairy Tail for the moment in order to screw Dogramag over and help Suzaku and Natsu win.
  • Even Evil Has Standards:
    • Immediately attempts to kill Selene after watching her splatter Master Georg all over the floor. Predictably, it doesn't go well, but she's got the spirit.
    • Seemingly while she was lying defeated, she heard Selene’s instructions to Fairy Tail on destroying the cores, so she swallows her pride and manages to both find and destroy the penultimate core to help weaken Dogramag because she cares about Suzaku as her friend.
    • She has also stopped caring about being forced to serve Selene and tells her Guild Master to pull herself together in concern when she falls to her knees and her portals dissipate out of exhaustion.
  • Fangs Are Evil: She has the noticeably developed canines of a Dragon Slayer and likes to show them off with her Slasher Smile. Notably, when she realizes that she might have developed a crush on Laxus, her smile becomes more pleasant with her fangs no longer being prominent.
  • Fan Disservice: When Lucy blows her sky-high with Gottfried, Kiria falls like a ragdoll back to Earth completely naked... with Blank White Eyes, burns all over her, and smoke pouring from every part of her body, including her open mouth.
  • Fetish: After losing all her clothing (sandals included) save for Laxus' jacket, she cuts his mental strength and smugly demands that he lick her feet.
  • Humiliation Conga: First when she goes up against Lucy, she gets all her clothes sliced off and freaks out, but decides to keep going... then she sees Laxus is watching and completely falls apart. After obtaining his coat and cutting his mental strength, she falls for Lucy's magical doubles and Laxus powers through the mental cut to protect Lucy. Then, Lucy uses Gottfried, a spell that takes 16 seconds to charge, and uses water clones to distract Kiria long enough to blow her sky-high, at which point Kiria comes dropping out of the sky, completely limp like a ragdoll, dead to the world, naked once again, covered in burns, eyes rolled all the way back in her head and smoke pouring from her mouth and the rest of her body. When Laxus finally comes to his senses, Kiria is still a smoking heap on the ground resembling a charred corpse while Lucy looks downright peaceful by comparison. How embarrassing!
  • I Surrender, Suckers: She lets herself be captured as a sacrifice to Mercphobia just so she can lure him out and kill him. The effort is wasted when Mercphobia's servant comes instead.
  • Laser Blade: She creates energy blades from her hands that extend longer than her own body, and can neatly slice through whatever she uses them on.
  • Losing a Shoe in the Struggle: Both of them during her fight with Lucy. And then the rest of her clothes soon after. And then Laxus' coat. She gets that one back later, though.
  • Maniac Tongue: She frequently licks her lips when she faces an opponent (or a potential meal) who catches her interest.
  • Meaningful Name: Her name in Japanese contains the root word "kiri", which can be interpreted to mean "cutting".
  • Mind Rape: Her "cutting mentality" power is revealed to be a hypnosis that attacks the mind through visual contact, which makes her opponents more obedient and compelled to follow her commands no matter what. Erza is able to recover with her Magical Eye weakening its effect, but it says something of how strong it is that it takes some time to finally wear off. However, during the rematch, Erza boasts that it won't work twice now that she knows the trick. It also won't work on someone who's already being mentally manipulated, which is why Laxus under Faris' Whiteout is able to No-Sell it, but later on she's able to make it work when he's in his right mind.
  • Mercury's Wings: She has hair decs shaped like wings.
  • Ms. Fanservice: One of the most notable Stripperific characters in the series who can't help but lick her lips 24-7 when facing opponents. She gets not one, but multiple nude scenes, although the second one could be considered an example of Fan Disservice. The hot tub one on the other hand…
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • When she realizes Erza has access to a sword enchanted with Dragon Slayer Magic. It gets more extreme when Erza finally lands a decisive hit on her that sends her crashing up through Diabolos' ship.
    • She's effectively left crapping herself in the background watching Laxus and Erza go at it and realizing just how much she underestimated both of them.
    • While initially excited when Selene breaks free and transforms into a dragon, confident that Georg will have no problem slaying her, she quickly changes her tune when Selene crushes Georg with little effort.
    • Twice in a row. Laxus manages to resist her cutting his mentality long enough to take a hit for Lucy, which allows Lucy to prepare her most devastating spell. Kiria has just enough time to realize that Lucy's water clones have her surrounded before she gets blasted by the Gottfried spell and is completely out of it.
    • Yet again when she witnesses Selene collapse from her injuries.
  • Pet the Dog: She actually helps out by destroying one of the Dogra Cores in order to ensure that Suzaku has a winning shot against the Earth Dragon God. She even shows concern for her new boss when an already-injured Selene has exhausted herself and is forced to dispel her portals. When Selene collapses from overexertion, Kiria demands she not die on them. She and Misaki later look deeply upset and shocked when Selene claims to be dying from an internal wound, although she allows for her wound to be removed by Irene without them being around to see it that night.
  • Razor-Sharp Hand: Without using her Laser Blades, she can still perform a Clean Cut on metal bars with her bare hands.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The Red to Madmole's Blue, being a Stripperific and passionate Blood Knight with the power to cut through anything.
  • Sadist: While she admits she enjoys a good fight, she also loves watching her opponents break down in terror before her thanks to her cruel side. She takes great pleasure in degrading and hurting Erza after crippling her mentally, and Skullion indicates Erza isn't the first "strong" individual she's reduced like this.
  • Sex Is Violence: When she fights Erza, it gets to the point where she's gushing about how strong Erza is with a blush on her face.
  • Slain in Their Sleep: An averted downplayed example, as Erza is unable to bring herself to attack Kiria while she's sleeping despite quivering in rage at the humiliation she endured from the Mind Rape. Kiria herself mocks Erza for her inability to finish her while she was at her weakest, though Erza fires back that her defeat wouldn't be nearly as satisfying if she couldn't see it coming.
  • Slasher Smile: She has a grotesque smile with a Maniac Tongue in the heat of battle that creeps Natsu out.
  • Sore Loser: Subverted. She doesn't take her loss against Erza in their second fight very well, feeling she could still win against her. When Laxus beats the snot out of her twice during their battle, however, she realizes just how outclassed she is and takes it much better, and even develops a crush on him.
  • A Taste of Their Own Medicine: After dicing up Lucy's clothes during their battle in the Labyrinth and laughing over Lucy's embarrassment at being completely naked, Lucy switches to Star Dress: Cancer Form and proceeds to cut up Kiria's own clothes, laughing as the Dragon Eater tries to cover up out of shocked embarrassment.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: All the beatdowns she received have caused her to gain newfound respect for her former enemies and actually act much friendlier towards them.
  • Underestimating Badassery: During the labyrinth arc, she's runs into Lucy and is pitted against her, thinking her a small fry because Lucy's not a well known fighter like Erza. Lucy proves her wrong by showing her determination (with a little help from Laxus) and ultimately outwits and defeats her using a combination magic of her Star Dresses that take Kiria completely off guard.
  • Villainous Friendship: She sees Misaki as her Big Sister Mentor, something which Misaki more than lives up to by kindly showing her how to dismantle the attacking golems in the Labyrinth.
  • Villain Respect: She loves and respects Misaki as her Big Sister Mentor, calling her "Nee-chan." She’s also learned to respect Fairy Tail after the events at the Labyrinth, although it’s unclear if she still counts as villainous by that point.

    Madmole

Madmole

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/madmorl.png

The Armor Dragon Eater, who is clad in the strongest armor.

  • Affably Evil: He's easily the friendliest and more morally right of his teammates.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: He might be a member of the Dragon Eaters, but he shows dismay at Kiria turning Erza into her slave.
  • Lantern Jaw of Justice: Despite his moral ambiguity, he has a large, square chin.
  • Meaningful Name: Just like Kiria and Skullion, his name in Japanese (マッドモール ) sounds like "Mamoru" (to protect) with an extra Do and long Ru syllable. Fittingly, since his power over armor allows him to protect himself and others.
  • No-Sell: Brute force attacks are incapable of punching through his defense thanks to the power of his Armor Dragon Slayer Magic. Even Natsu's Fire Dragon King''s Demolition Fist (the very same attack that destroyed a War God the size of a mountain) can't budge him. He later states that the Armor Dragon has resistance against other forms of attack as well, such as heat. Natsu eventually defeats him by turning up the heat so much and so long with Fire Dragon King's Purgatory his defense can't stand up to it anymore, and even then, he manages to get back on his feet very quickly.
  • Not So Stoic:
    • He visibly panics when Skullion suggests that they may have to employ Diabolos' ace in the sleeve, the Black Dragon Slayer Cavalry.
    • He's absolutely horrified when Selene, having been brought over by Suzaku to be eaten, breaks free and crushes Georg, his master, with little effort.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The Blue to Kiria's Red, being a calm and well-armored warrior with an incredibly powerful defense.
  • The Stoic: He is stone-faced and soft-spoken at all times, never changing his expression when everyone else around him is gazing in awe at Mercphobia.
  • Super-Toughness: As a testament to his Armor Dragon Slayer Magic's durability, he can block Erza's sword strike with his own bare head. Taken even further when Natsu hits him dead on with his Fire Dragon King's Demolition Fist, and Natsu is the one who gets hurt with blood spurting out of his hand.
  • Unusual Eyebrows: The ends of his eyebrows are shaped like the tips of a cross moline.
  • Verbal Tic: Ends many of his sentences with "-cha!"
  • The Worf Effect: After having fought evenly with Natsu in the Water Dragon God Arc and (with Skullion) having stalemated Mirajane and Elfman during the Wood Dragon God Arc to prove he's the real deal, Madmole gets wrecked off-screen by Laxus (despite having Skullion backing him) in the Labyrinth of Dogra to remind everyone once again Laxus is The Ace (and to hype up the confrontation between Laxus and Kirin).

    Nebaru

Nebaru

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nebal.png

The Clinging Dragon, who has an arachnid appearance and can produce strands of sticky web from his body.

  • All Webbed Up: He subjects his opponents to this, spitting silk at them and telekinetically wrapping them up from a distance.
  • Arachnid Appearance and Attire: Has a very spider-like look, especially with his eyes, powers and sharp teeth.
  • Brought Down to Normal: Irene uses her powers via Wendy to completely remove Nebaru's magic, making him a normal person and undoing his dragonization.
  • Ceiling Cling: He makes his debut hanging from the ceiling of the hall he's in, thanks to his Dragon Slayer powers.
  • Combat Pragmatist: He fights Wendy from a distance, making sure she's all wrapped in a cocoon before descending from the ceiling. When Wendy manages to overcome this and land a strike on him, he doesn't hesitate to hurry up and finish his original mission of destroying Aldoron's orb while she's still somewhat restricted before getting ready to fight her to his heart's content.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: He has creepy pitch-black eyes with three white dots, making them resemble a spider's eyes.
  • Facial Markings: Nebaru has black markings resembling claw marks over his eyes.
  • Hulk Speak: He speaks in broken English/Japanese, making him look more feral and beast-like than his colleagues.
  • Hulking Out: Once he activates Dragon Force, he becomes thrice the size he was and is far more powerful than before, being able to easily inflict a Curb-Stomp Battle to Wendy, who had just activated Dragon Force herself.
  • I Am a Humanitarian: Once he smells dragon on Wendy, he decides to have her as an appetizer before eating Aldoron. Upon beating her up in Dragon Force, he downright asks her to choose which body part he'll eat first.
  • Maniac Tongue: He has a long, slender tongue that dangles out, adding to his bestial visage.
  • Meaningful Name: Nebaru is straight-up just the Japanese meaning "to cling/stick".
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: He inflicts this on Wendy once he enters Dragon Force, smashing her through buildings and wailing on her brutally once he wraps her up.
  • No-Nonsense Nemesis: Downplayed. He's excited to fight Wendy when she proves a difficult opponent, but he still puts his mission to destroy Aldoron's orb first... and succeeds.
  • One-Winged Angel: While the first step of his Dragon Force noticeably alters his body, he becomes a full-blown Dragon-Human hybrid covered in Spikes of Villainy.
  • Power Dyes Your Hair: Using Dragon Force turns his black hair into a white flame-like mane.
  • Power-Up Food: He quickly snacks on some sticky gum to replenish his power before getting ready to face off with Wendy.
  • Sneaky Spider: Wendy notices he's in the building only when he talks.
  • Spiders Are Scary: Compared to the other characters, his sharp fangs, spider-like eyes and the fact that he easily overpower Wendy and plans to devour her makes him threatening-looking.
  • Sticky Situation: He's the Clinging Dragon Slayer, which lets him produce and manipulate sticky threads from his body and wrap people in cocoons like a humanoid spider.
  • Uncertain Doom: After Wendy and Irene successfully save him from his dragonification, he's left unconscious in a crater, with no sign of what happened to him during Aldoron's awakening and rampage, the fight with the God Seeds, and the Wood Dragon God's death and resulting destruction of his body and the cities on his body. Skullion reports to Georg that while Nebaru did in fact use his Dragon Force, they lost contact with him and they have no idea if he's still alive.
  • Would Hit a Girl: He has no issues at all fighting Wendy, up to and including smashing her through a building.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Not only does he show no issue hurting a young girl like Wendy, he noticeably expresses a desire to eat her once he smells the dragon inside her.

    Wraith

Wraith

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wraith_6.png

The Spirit Dragon Eater, sent to attack Aldoron with his colleagues. He is the actual ghost of a dead wizard who has the power to manipulate and attack with souls.

  • Affably Evil: He's a member of a morally bankrupt guild who hunts and devour dragons and Dragon Slayers alike, currently planning to destroy the Dragon God Aldoron, which one would have every reason to believe would bring untold destruction on the population of the five cities on him. Despite this, he seems to be pretty friendly and polite to Natsu as he meets him, apologizing for needing to kill and eat his soul. As shown in a flashback to Kirin's past, he was the one who showed Kirin how to trap Elexion's soul in an object, all because he just wanted to help his comrade's suffering.
  • Combat Pragmatist: He possesses Happy when Natsu starts overpowering him, noting that Natsu is too strong for him in a straight fight now and that he wouldn't hurt a friend. When that doesn't work, he flies away so he can find a stronger body to possess and enhance his power.
  • Exhausted Eye Bags: Downplayed, though they do stand out in his otherwise pretty face. They also appear on those he's possessing.
  • Ghostly Goals: He claims he can't pass on until he kills the one who originally killed him, and so he joined Diabolos to gain the power to do that. Said power gaining involves devouring the souls of dragons or other Dragon Slayers. After reading Makarov's memories, he finds out who he was and how he died, which allows him to pass peacefully.
  • Graceful Loser: After regaining his memories, he finds himself at peace and gracefully surrenders to Natsu before passing on to the afterlife, sharing one last farewell with Makarov as well.
  • Grand Theft Me: As a spirit, he has the ability to do this to living beings in a pinch, such as with Happy or Makarov. Under the right circumstances, he can even perform Super-Empowering on those he possesses.
  • Hitodama Light: He uses souls in the form of white flames as projectiles to attack others.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: By ripping out Natsu's soul, he inadvertently gives Natsu the means to physically hit him once Natsu breaks out his unconscious state and starts fighting back.
  • Inconsistent Dub: His name is initially translated by Kodansha as "Reiss", due to the translator interpreting it solely as a Japanese pun on the word rei, meaning "spirit". This was changed in the following volume.
  • Intangibility: One of his powers as the Spirit Dragon Slayer is that physical attacks pass right through him, while he's free to hit or grab his opponents. This does not apply to other spirits, however.
  • Invisible to Normals: Zig-Zagged. Few people can actually perceive his existence under ordinary circumstances, with Dragon Slayers being the only ones who can, which he says is the reason why he joined Diabolos; however, his attacks are visible, as Happy—who can't see him at all—is shocked when Natsu is suddenly engulfed by white flames.
  • Meaningful Name: A two-fold example: his name is a synonym for "ghost", which is what he is, while its Japanese spelling (Reisu) contains the word meaning "spirit" (rei).
  • The Needless: As a ghost, he has no need for sustenance, and admits thaat he devours dragons for gaining power, not to satisfy hunger.
  • One Degree of Separation: By sheer improbable luck, his true identity in life was that of a wizard and Makarov's friend from Fairy Tail, the latter of which he comes into armed conflict with, and the former of whom he possesses to fight Natsu.
  • Our Ghosts Are Different: He's the Spirit Dragon Slayer, as in he can manipulate souls and he is a ghost.
  • Remember the New Guy?: Downplayed by virtue of him being the ghost of someone who died long ago, but all the same, he's eventually revealed to be one of Makarov's closest friends when he was still a team with Porlyusica, Yajima, Goldmine, Bob, and Rob, who mourned but never spoke of him again until Makarov caught a glimpse of his spirit ascending to the afterlife.
  • Soul Power: He fights by manipulating souls into offensive attacks and can rip souls out of his victims to eat them. He can also seal souls into objects, as when he sealed Elexion's soul into a box to spare the young Kirin from his nightmares, and then taught him how to transfer said soul into other objects.
  • Steven Ulysses Perhero: He had the name "Wraith" long before he died and became a wandering, vengeful ghost with control over human souls, assuming he didn't use any soul-related magic in life.
  • Super-Empowering: He can perform this on those he possesses, with how much of a power boost depends on fulfilling three conditions to boost their "synchro rate": They must have equal or greater magic power as himself, they must have "seen into the abyss of death," and/or they must be related to him. He notes the last condition is impossible to fulfill as he has no living relatives that he knows of.
  • This Is Something He's Got to Do Himself: After trapping Elexion's spirit inside a box, Wraith tells young Kirin that he has no choice but to hear his voice and live with him unless the heart is returned to the Lightning Dragon King.
  • Tomato in the Mirror: After possessing Makarov's body, he begins to suspect by their incredible "synchro rate" that he might be Makarov's relative. As it turns out, once he regains his memory, he was part of a different family of Makarov's: the Fairy Tail guild itself, where he was one of Makarov's closest friends.
  • Your Soul Is Mine!: He tells this to Natsu after defeating him and ripping his soul out with the intent of devouring it.

Dark Dragon Slayer Knights

    In General
The Dark Dragon Slayer Knights are a group of 4 Fifth Generation Dragon Slayers that is Diabolos' strongest force.
  • The Dreaded: Madmole noticeably panics when Skullion mentions they'll likely need to call them in to deal with Fairy Tail, and Skullion himself clearly doesn't relish the thought of doing so.
  • Elite Four: They are the four strongest Dragon Eaters directly under Georg and now Selene.
  • The Four Gods: Each of them follow a theme after the Four Gods, with the exception of the Black Tortoise of the North.
    • Suzaku is named after the Vermillion Bird of the South, and has bird-themed attire.
    • Misaki is named after the Azure Dragon of the East, and has a dragon-shaped belt.
    • Haku is named after the White Tiger of the West, and wears a full-body cat-coat.
    • Kirin is the Odd Name Out, representing the Yellow Dragon/Qilin of the Center, and wears giraffe patterned pants.
  • I Fight for the Strongest Side!: With the exception of Suzaku, none of them have any issue with transferring their loyalty to Selene after she kills Georg and usurps leadership of Diabolos.
  • Non-Indicative Name: They are known as the "Dark Dragon Slayer Knights" but they are led by Kirin the Yellow Dragon.
  • Praetorian Guard: They're the most powerful Dragon Eaters in Diabolos directly under Georg, and Georg only allows one of them to join Skullion's team because he's tired of them constantly running back empty-handed.

    Suzaku

Suzaku

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ft_100yq_suzaku.jpg

The Scarlet Dragon who wields Sword Saint Dragon Slayer Magic, gained from devouring the corresponding Dragon Kurnugi.

  • Affably Evil: He's shown to actually be a polite man when not on the job, nor does he have any objections against killing Selene at the Grand Priestess's request to save Elentear even disregarding his own mission for Diabolos, but he also makes it clear he considers Fairy Tail an enemy of his guild and that he will cut them down too if they get in his way, even outright stating he views cutting them down as his way of avenging his guildmates defeated by them.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: His first interaction with Team Natsu (while not realizing they're Fairy Tail) shows he's got an odd way of thinking and sense of humor, such as comparing his summoned arrival into Elentear to a Trapped in Another World plot, calling Natsu a pervert for being half-naked when they first meet, and then bursting into suppressed laughter when he sees Gray's stripping habit and Happy. Yet his skills are no joke, as shown by him cutting down Erza and Natsu in quick succession.
  • Enemy Mine: Once Ignia arrives at the Great Labyrinth and demonstrates how just powerful he is, Suzaku proposes to team up with Natsu to defeat him in order to protect their friends, which Natsu agrees on. Slowly begins to evolve into Fire-Forged Friends as they fight Dogramog, culminating in Suzaku throwing his sword to Natsu so they can conduct a Unison Raid, which requires both compatible magic and has only been used prior by those with close bonds to one another.
  • Everything's Better with Samurai: His entire character has this vibe, from his hair style, to his robes and sheathed long sword, and even his manner of speaking oozes this.
  • Fiery Redhead: Subverted. He has brilliant red hair that's the source of his Red Baron, but Suzaku himself is a calm, if a bit odd man when he's not fighting, and even when fighting he's more "determined" than "fiery".
  • Knight Templar: While the other Dragon Eaters seem to be in it for power, Suzaku noticeably claims that he kills dragons for being monsters and threats to humans, and he doesn't seem to necessarily discriminate if they're "good" or "evil" nor will he debate the point with those who disagree with his guild's mission.
  • Master Swordsman: One so fast he’s able to completely cut a group of large monsters without even appearing to move from his sitting position and only making a slight motion of drawing his sword. They were also directly behind him. Later still he cuts down Erza and Natsu in a similar manner, only expressing surprise that Erza could even react to his movement despite being defeated regardless. During his fight with Selene, he shows the ability to slice through fire and project Sword Beams. As it turns out, his Dragon Slayer Magic is literally called "Sword Saint", meaning he's this by definition.
  • Meaningful Name: His name translates to "red bird", and is the Japanese name for the Vermilion bird in Asian culture that represents fire and summer.
  • Mellow Fellow: Although he expresses disapproval to being summoned by the White Priestess to Eletnir against his will, he’s not upset about it. He even goes so far as agree to their request to eliminate Selene, and kills a horde of giant rampaging monsters threatening their village before they even ask for his help.
  • Not What It Looks Like: After his debut chapter, he's introduced at the end of Chapter 76 standing ominously before the wrecked White Priestess Temple, initially looking like he destroyed it both to the audience and Faris and Touka's perspective. Chapter 77 reveals he had nothing to do with the destruction (which was the work of monsters) and was in fact a guest there by the Head Priestess herself. He even destroys some monsters who come back to finish the job.
  • Oh, Crap!: He realizes Selene lost on purpose so that he would bring her to Georg, the one who killed her son Kurnugi, so that she could kill him herself, and does so with very little effort.
  • Pretty Boy: He's a handsome young man whose attractiveness is commented on In-Universe by the Grand White Priestess.
  • Red Is Violent: Played with. He's explicitly called the (depending on translation) Vermilion/Scarlet/Red Dragon and is a member of a group considered The Dreaded even among a bunch of dragon-devouring mages, but personality-wise he seems to be a calm, even mellow man when he's not fighting.
  • Single-Stroke Battle: It seems to be his preferred way of settling fights. He expresses surprise Erza could even react to his strike even if it still grievously injured her and further surprise at Selene being the first to outright dodge a strike.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Georg, to the point he's heartbroken to realize he was tricked into causing Georg's death and he's the only member of the Dark Dragon Slayer Knights who's still rather numb over the leadership change to Selene.
  • Unwitting Pawn: Much like Faris, he ends up being this for Selene. During their fight, he appears to land a devastating blow on Selene, and he then proceeds to bring her to the guild so they can feast on her. However, once Selene's there, she assumes her dragon form, and easily breaks free, before effortlessly killing Georg, revealing the whole thing was an act.
  • Worf Had the Flu: His rematch with Natsu in the Great Labyrinth of Dogra goes against him in part because, aside from being surprised at how Natsu has figured out a method to counter his usual fighting style, the corridor of the Labyrinth they're fighting in is too narrow for him to proper draw and use his katana effectively (and the walls' unbreakable nature prevent him from easily making the necessary space).
  • You Are Already Dead: Inflicts this on the giant monsters attacking the White Priestess Temple, stating that he won't help the priestesses fight them because he's already cut them down.

    Kirin

Kirin

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fairy_tail_kirin_render.png
The Yellow Dragon, a dapper fellow who seems to be the leader of the squad. He wields Yellow/Lightning/Thunder Dragon Slayer Magic, which he gained from eating the corresponding Dragon King Elexion.
  • The Ace: It's implied by Selene that's he's the most powerful member of the Dark Dragon Slayer Knights, as his showdown with Laxus is referred to as the clash between two of the potentially strongest fighters present. Even more fitting, given they both possess the Lightning Dragon King Elexion's power.
  • Blessed with Suck: When he first got his Dragon Slayer powers. Hooray, you have the magic of the strongest lightning dragon alive! Enjoy being tormented by the dragon's spirit in your head every waking moment from then on. It only stopped after Wraith sealed Elexion's soul into a box and taught him how to move the soul into other objects, but Kirin still had to deal with a possibly hateful being near him at all times.
  • Blood Knight: He's pretty happy once he gets over his shock that Laxus saw through his atmospheric manipulation and sees him as a foe worth getting serious over.
  • Blow You Away: His magic involves the manipulation of the atmosphere, allowing him to redirect and block any attack that moves through the air while also launching invisible attacks on his foes. This in turn seems to be an extension of Elexion's power as the Lightning/Thunder Dragon King, which made him the strongest dragon of his magic type.
  • Coffin Contraband: He has a whole coffin strapped to his back like some sort of impromptu backpack. Initially he jokes that he puts his victims in it, but when he gets serious it turns out to be his weapon and mystical in nature as it contains "the soul of a king" according to him. In other words, the soul of a Dragon King.
  • Deer in the Headlights: After Laxus breaks out of his coffin, rips out his own dragon lacrima, and then consumes Elexion's soul/magic power for a power-up, what trips up Kirin more than anything is Laxus' (false) declaration that Elexion's true Ghostly Goals was to kill Kirin ever since he was a child for the crime of consuming his body after getting his heart back. As Kirin was haunted by Elexion's voice telling him to return the heart as a child, this brings his trauma soaring back to the surface and he can't even muster a defense before the strengthened Laxus finishes him off with another Red Lightning attack.
  • Epic Flail: Uses his coffin like this, with the added effect of it producing some kind of unusual feeling on Laxus on impact, seemingly related to whatever is contained within. That's because Elexion's soul is reacting to the presence of his heart within Laxus, aka the dragon lacrima. He can also electrify the coffin and chain for extra damage.
  • The Force Is Strong with This One: Once he declares he's going to get serious after Laxus proves he's no small fry he can mess with, he emphasizes this by releasing his Magic Power, which Laxus in shock explicitly compares to Gildarts in potency.
  • Hidden Depths: He comes off as a typical Smug Super, but the flashback to his past shows he Used to Be a Sweet Kid who was haunted by the restless spirit of Elexion until he learned how to trap his soul.
  • High-Class Glass: He shown to be wearing a monocle.
  • Improbable Weapon User: Uses a (magical) COFFIN as a flail. Pretty effective to, as he uses it to beat down Laxus during their fight.
  • Logical Weakness: His control over the atmosphere at first makes him look untouchable, but Laxus notes that's the stipulation: "through the atmosphere". Any attack that doesn't require moving through the air can still hit him, as Laxus proves by releasing a lightning bolt through the ground and then switching to Red Lightning Dragon Mode to strike directly while boasting his red lightning doesn't have this vulnerability.
  • Might Makes Right: When Laxus calls him out on using Elexion's soul as a weapon, Kirin replies it's simply his right as someone who devoured a Dragon King.
  • Navel-Deep Neckline: A male example, as his shirt is zipped open at the front down to his abdomen to show off his chest and abs.
  • Odd Name Out: While the other members of the Dark Dragon Slayer Knights are all named/themed after one of the Four Gods, Kirin is instead named after the Sixth Ranger of the group, the Golden Dragon/Qilin of the Center, rather than the absent Black Tortoise of the North.
  • Psycho Supporter: Despite the fact Selene killed their guild master, he's more than a little onboard with her plan to make Earthland dragon-free and make a human-only world. His Freudian Excuse of being haunted by the voice of his dragon since he was child adds more context to why.
  • Shock and Awe: He reveals in his rematch with Laxus that his Yellow Dragon Slayer Magic is related to lightning, and it's so powerful it can even hurt Laxus, who reacts in shock since he should otherwise be immune to most lightning. Kirin clarifies that the reason their Dragon Slayer lightning can hurt each other is because they both come from the same source: the Lightning/Thunder Dragon King Elexion, whose power they've both acquired in different ways: Laxus from being implanted with his heart (i.e. his Dragon Lacrima) and Kirin from devouring Elexion's body and imprisoning his soul in his coffin.
  • Slasher Smile: While he's almost always has a smug smirk on, it goes to this territory while telling Laxus to give him back Elexion's heart, aka the Dragon Lacrima implanted in his body. With context, it's clear he doesn't mind tearing it out of Laxus' body if need be.
  • Sore Loser: When Fairy Tail and Diablos make peace at the Diablos guild hall, Kirin tries to claim that the only reason he lost to Laxus is because he didn't have the room to fully utilize his magic in the confined space of the labyrinth and even tries to get Misaki on board with his argument by claiming that she lost to Erza for the same reason, which she denies and says that she lost fair and square.
  • Worf Had the Flu: While Laxus manages to one shot him after tearing Elexion's heart out of his chest, it's made clear that not only did Laxus get a massive power-up from devouring Elexion's magic power, Kirin was being a Deer In Headlights because of Laxus' false claim that Elexion spoke to Laxus and wanted his heart back to kill Kirin, triggering his PTSD and leaving unable to defend himself.

    Haku
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fairy_tail_haku_render.png
The White Tiger Dragon, a kid decked out in a tiger costume with the power to create and transform others into plush dolls or strings at will.
  • Affably Evil: They're actually a genuine Cheerful Child who expresses reluctance to hurt Lucy, Natsu, and Happy after turning them into dolls, and ultimately goes on the attack by sending another dollified labyrinth golem after them.
  • Ambiguous Gender: Because they're so young and wearing a full-body cat-coat, it's hard to tell if Haku is a boy or a girl.
  • Best Her to Bed Her: They have the PG-rated version towards Wendy, asking that if they win if she'll go out on a date with them.
  • Cheerful Child: Their first appearance has them all smiles and even genuinely happy at the prospect that their new guild master is in fact a dragon. Both Misaki and Suzaku comment it's likely because they're still a child they can adapt to these new circumstances so easily and with a smile.
  • Hoist by Their Own Petard: When they used their powers on Irene, it did turn her into a doll, but her spirit jumped to another doll among those they had turned to use on Wendy. Irene not only breaks their control over her but the rest of their dolls as well and uses them to attack Haku, pinning them down long enough for Wendy to deliver the finishing blow.
  • Killer Rabbit: Looks like a kid no older than Wendy and is wearing a full-body cat-coat complete with comically huge bell on the front, but as one of the Dark Dragon Slayer Knights they're explicitly an equal of Suzaku, who took out both Natsu and Erza in one blow each back-to-back in their first fight.
  • Oh, Crap!: Get this when Irene reveals her spirit jumped dolls and broke their control over them. Even more so when she turns their dolls against them and Wendy coming in to for the coup de grâce.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: They may be a child but there's a reason they're part of the elite squad of Diabolos. And they prove it in their fight against Wendy, at one point matching a blow against her and sending her flying.
  • Polite Villains, Rude Heroes: This sums up their initial meeting with Natsu, Happy, and Lucy, as the former is all smiles and polite while the latter have varying degrees of wary and loud about his presence. They even offer and get Lucy out from being stuck in the wall...though their methods are rather odd.
  • Primal Stance: When they get serious fighting Wendy, they suddenly go down on all fours.
  • Save the Villain: Not exactly villainous per se, but Wendy and Pantherlily still carry Haku out of the area after Wendy finishes them off as it starts to shake ominously.
  • Super-Speed: According to Haku, the White Tiger Dragon is as fast as light.
  • Super-Toughness: They take multiple Sky Dragon Slayer spells from Wendy and shrug them off without much issue. It takes being hit dead-on by Wendy's Shattering Light: Sky Drill while she's in Dragon Force with no way to dodge or block before they go down, and even then In-Universe it's only a few minutes before they've recovered enough to reveal they were faking unconsciousness before being knocked down again by Gajeel's fist to the back of the head.
  • Slasher Smile: Once they get serious, their cheerful expression turns much more manic looking.
  • The Transmogrifier: Their magic has the ability to transform their foes into dolls, as proven when they turn Lucy into a still-conscious plush doll to get her out of a labyrinth wall, and then do the same to Natsu and Happy while revealing they also did this to a labyrinth Golem. These plush dolls are capable of movement (with difficulty) and can even use their magic, but they still have the properties of plush dolls, with Haku warning Natsu that if he tries to use his Dragon Slaying Magic, he could possibly burn himself to ashes. As proven with Irene, it also works on personas.
  • Villainous Crush: While villain is something of a stretch, they're still an antagonist and swoons over Wendy once they get a good look at her to the point of asking her out.
  • Zerg Rush: Their ultimate attack in having a batch of dolls swarm their victims and tickle them into submission. Seems harmless but due to the sheer number, it's pretty effective. Wendy almost loses if it wasn't for Irene revealing she had jumped dolls and turns the tables.

    Misaki

Misaki

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/2022_03_23_11j_kleki.png
The Azure Dragon, a woman with a regal appearance who Kiria refers to as "Nee-san".
  • Big Sister Mentor: Kiria views Misaki this way and she certainly delivers when showing Kiria how to deal with the labyrinth golems.
  • Braids of Action: Her hairstyle has her hair braided in pigtails.
  • Bullying a Dragon: She tears out Erza’s long, red hair into a shorter cut. This seriously pushes her Berserk Button.
  • Cool Big Sis: Kiria, of all people, noticeably calls her "Nee-san" and seems truly respectful of her, and Misaki's actions of helping and guiding Kiria against the labyrinth golems does speak of some mutual respect.
  • Clothing Damage: Erza’s final attack slices Misaki’s coat wide open, exposing her chest in humiliating fashion, although luckily for her nobody comments on it.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Her eyes and hair are both azure.
  • Domain Holder: Within the Blue Dimension Misaki has complete control of the space, allowing her conjure items of choice from nothing, teleport enemy projectiles away or send them right back at their users, or even cause the very space itself to attack her foes. To her shock, however, Erza's magic power and willpower are able to wrestle some control of the space away from her, opening her up to a devastating strike.
  • Even Evil Can Be Loved: She and Kiria have a very sisterly relationship.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Kiria definitely counts. Misaki is very kind and helpful towards her.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: Her pupils are cross-shaped.
  • The Force Is Strong with This One: Carla and Grey note her tremendous power and how a fight between her and Erza is like a fight between Gildarts and Laxus.
  • Graceful Loser: Is quite happy when she says she truly must admit defeat and claims that Erza surpassed even her, with only Selene being the more powerful woman.
  • Home Field Advantage: Her power allows her to transport herself and her opponent to a "Blue Dimension" where she claims her power is absolute, and her opponent’s physical strength is reduced to the point of being unable to directly move. Erza gets around this by magically controlling her armor to move for her, and dodge Misaki’s attacks. Is later subverted, when Erza’s magical power surpasses her own and the dimension starts turning red; taking away her control and allowing Erza to deliver a devastating blow.
  • Matter Replicator: Within her Blue Dimension she can create objects like swords and chains.
  • Mind over Matter: Her magic involves some form of this, as she's able to get around the labyrinth golem's Nigh-Invulnerability by freezing them up and pulling their bodies apart at their connections to reveal their vulnerable magic cores without actually damaging them. She later demonstrates the ability to pull Erza’s armor and hair away from her, suggesting it’s only limited to pulling non-living things apart.
  • The Paralyzer: A side-effect of transporting her targets to the Blue Dimension is that they cannot physically move under their own power, leaving them helpless. However, she can't affect her victims' magic, as Erza even when completely chained up is able to summon her weapons and control them at will.
  • Pet the Dog: She holds up the entire collapsing Labyrinth ceiling using her telekinetic abilities and says to Suzaku and Natsu that no one is getting left behind, showing that she has grown to care about her former enemies.
  • The Smurfette Principle: The only female within the Slayer group (though not the only one of the guild).
  • Space Master: Within her Blue Dimension she can tear space itself apart to deliver unavoidable attacks. According to her, until Erza came along the only time she's ever had to seriously resort to this particular aspect of the Blue Dimension was in her sparring matches with Kirin.
  • Stunned Silence: When Erza nails her with a finishing move in Chapter 105, she's left floating around in complete shock and disbelief, unable to say anything (apart from trying to yell in pain and her shouts being cut off by the sensation).
  • This Cannot Be!: Essentially her reaction after Erza lands a devastating strike on her, leaving her spiraling around in her own dimension heavily injured and unable to speak properly out of shock and pain.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: At the end of the Labyrinth Arc, she saves both Suzaku and Natsu, saying kindly that nobody will be left behind on her and Haku's watch, and later politely apologizes for slicing Erza's beloved long scarlet hair.
  • Villainous Friendship: She and Kiria have a sisterly bond, Misaki acting as the Cool Big Sis.
  • Year Outside, Hour Inside: A variant. Misaki claims that a second in her Blue Dimension is equivalent to an hour in the real world. However, no major difference in time seems to pass between when she and Erza are transported there and back. Rather, she attacks Erza for five seconds in her dimension, and Erza instantly experiences five hours worth of the attack upon return, thus greatly multiplying the pain and damage she sustained. Even defeating her doesn't change this, as Erza starts suffering the effects of their battle when they return to the real world and is only spared by Wendy's magic. Misaki, by contrast, blacks out immediately from the agony as soon as they both return and is left behind until she recovers and ensures her teammates escape before doubling back with Haku to save Natsu and Suzaku.
