Our two, er, "heroes", who spends their lives unwillingly going to school, working at Burger World, watching TV, trying to "score" with "chicks", and causing trouble.

  • Abhorrent Admirer: They always get rejected by their crushes due to their stupidity, ugliness, and crude, sexist behavior.
  • Accidental Hero: Most of the time, they unintentionally save the day either by touching random things that just so happen to bring good luck or by downright failing to inflict bad luck upon others for amusement. "To the Rescue", Do America, "A Very Special Episode", and "Spill" are the epitomes of this trope.
  • Aerith and Bob: Most of the characters on the show have normal names, but Butt-Head wasn't lucky enough to have considerate parents who named him well.
  • All Take and No Give: They believe that they are owed whatever they want, yet they won't help others unless it benefits them in some way. This is most notable with Stewart and Tom Anderson.
  • Ambiguously Bi: Despite the both of them being desperate to "score" with "chicks" and seemingly being grossed out by the idea of seeing a guy naked, their idolizing to the point of heavily implied crushes on Todd tells a different story. Not to mention the fact that Beavis pondered whether or not it was normal to develop erections over boys on a bus. When the two are hung upside down from a marquee, Butt-Head makes comments about Beavis' rear end and changes the subject when Beavis accuses him of having an interest in it.
  • Annoying Laugh: Both of them, constantly, all the time, to the point where it's practically a Verbal Tic. Though god help you if you say anything remotely resembling a Double Entendre in their presence.
  • Anti-Role Model: They're good examples of how not to behave. They have been the subject of controversy by parents out-of-universe for all the risky and illegal behavior they've engaged in, from skipping school to putting dogs in the washing machine on whims.
  • Apathetic Clerk: They work at Burger World, but they prefer goofing around and fighting over actually taking the customers' orders. Oftentimes, they stall the customers for so long that they end up leaving.
Customer: Double cheeseburger, large order of fries, small root beer, and an apple pie.
Butt-Head: Uh, could you, like, get less stuff?
  • Apathetic Student: They care nothing about their education, often preferring to skip school and do whatever they find interesting. The only things that motivate them to go to school in the first place are when the cafeteria serves tacos or when there is nothing else to do. They only find school itself interesting when their teachers (namely Van Driessen) get maimed in one way or another.
  • Bad People Abuse Animals: They tend to mistreat animals for their own amusement, putting poodles through washing machines, attempting to kill baby birds, and beating frogs with baseball bats.
  • Bastard Bastard: Their fathers knocked their mothers up and then just took off, and the boys have since grown up to become a pair of unpleasant and destructive delinquents.
  • Big Eater: Both of them can actually pig out whenever they want to. In "Supersize Me", they tried to gain weight so they can get famous like Morgan Spurlock of Super Size Me. Of course, being how the two are, they gained weight without knowing the documentary's actual purpose.
Butt-Head: We ate a lot of Burger World food, and now we're fat.
  • Book Dumb: They are illiterate slackers who couldn't care less about academics. However, despite being idiots in most situations, they can be surprisingly sharp when making comments about TV shows and music videos.
  • Casanova Wannabe: Played for Laughs. Beavis and Butt-Head always try to get laid, although most of the women they intend on boning are far from their age range and would be labeled ephebophiles if they did consent. But even then, the girls around their age they do take a liking to instantaneously reject them due to their stupidity and obnoxious behavior.
  • Chaotic Stupid: All they care about is food, girls, heavy metal, and whatever captures their interest or seems "cool" at the moment, most notably any sort of carnage, to which effect they were too amused by the wreckage of an airplane crash to help the victims. They're too lazy and stupid to realize or care about anything else, like work or their education. Sometimes their actions may cause harm to someone unintentionally.
  • Characterization Marches On: Or what passes for it. They started out as a couple of complete (and in Beavis's case, pyromaniacal) sociopaths who love breaking stuff, damaging property, etc. with no concern for the consequences to anyone else. As the series progressed, this got toned down to them just being a couple of Chaotic Stupid idiots who were simply too moronic to realize the consequences of their actions... on top of most usually not caring anyway. The revival brought back some of the sociopathy, though.
  • Childhood Friends: Flashbacks show that they have always been the same and hung out since they were kids.
  • Cuckoosnarker: In the watching TV segments, they're portrayed as this, though in the story portions, their attempts at humor are more immature and uncreative.
  • Delinquents: They occasionally skip school for weeks at a time and are pretty much in a perpetual state of loitering. They also often dabble in petty crime, though generally unintentionally.
  • Determinator: They don't give up on their quests easily... even if it means almost certain death. They just keep going.
  • The Ditz: Beavis and Butt-Head are two Book Dumb idiots who venture into Too Dumb to Live territory with their violent behavior (like Beavis getting his finger sliced off by a buzzsaw in one episode) and reserve most of their brain functioning occupancy for sex jokes. Butt-head is slightly smarter than Beavis, but "slightly" is the keyword here.
  • The Dividual: Downplayed. They're not completely identical, but they are extremely similar and basically inseparable. Beavis tends to be more hyper, while Butt-Head tends to be more of an instigating planner, but generally, they're both stupid jerkish types, which makes the difference mostly one of degrees. Roger Ebert referred to them pretty accurately as "one personality, split into two so that they will have somebody to talk to."
  • Entitled Bastard: They always expect others to bend over backward for them, no matter how ridiculous, unsavory, or vague their requests are. They are promptly disappointed when they don't.
  • Everyone Has Standards: As perverted as these two are, even they find graphic footage of childbirth revolting.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: They are generally too stupid and amoral to recognize good deeds, feeling that something might be wrong. They mistake empathetic hugs for "scoring" and dismiss any genuine act of kindness as either mediocre or confusing.
  • Failure Is the Only Option: Their attempts to "score" will always end in vain due to their stupidity and obnoxiousness.
  • Fatal Flaw:
    • Their stupidity causes their schemes to fail, as they are too dumb to know how to actually pull them off.
    • Their Lust causes them to drive away any woman or girl they are interested in. They would be more successful if they weren't so shallow and sexist. Not to mention that they don't realize that their crush is already far out of their league.
    • Their poor social skills make it unlikely for them to get what they want, confusing others.
  • Fat and Skinny: Downplayed. While the two are both skinny, Butt-Head looks slightly stockier and more hunchbacked compared to Beavis. Played straight in some episodes of the second revival, as in his adulthood, Old Butt-Head is much fatter than Old Beavis.
  • Free-Range Children: They live in a house without parents or guardians. They also hate school and their jobs, but for some reason, they continue going to both. They sometimes mention their mothers, but they are never seen. It's likely their mothers are almost never around, as seen by how their home has electricity, water, and phone service. It's easy to assume their mothers would be the ones to handle the bills, as the boys can't even handle schoolwork and rarely have any money.
  • Genius Ditz: They're incredibly stupid most of the time, but when they're commenting on music videos (and Reality Shows in the 2011 episodes) they can be surprisingly witty and clever with their comments. They are also knowledgeable in various sexual slang terms, such as "schlong", "nads", and "score".
  • Gonk: A rare main character example; they have exaggerated, ugly features and look nothing like any other character on the show. In Do the Universe, the two are thought to be aliens by people looking at a sketch of them.
  • Groin Attack: While Butt-head has rarely thrown one out, Beavis, in turn for being slapped a lot, retaliated to Butt-head and others with a kick in the nads, on numerous occasions.
  • Hated by All: Their constant antics and trouble-making have earned them the ire of just about everyone in Highland. Best shown in "It's a Miserable Life", where the supporting cast gets together to pray to God to make the duo go away, with Principal McVicker outright praying for their deaths, and in "Beavis and Butt-Head Are Dead", where they call in "dead" to get out of school; the reactions range from indifference to joy.
  • Heh Heh, You Said "X": Almost every time they hear anything that can possibly be construed as a sexual innuendo, they laugh at it.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: They are inseparable companions, if only because about nobody else wants to hang out with them, with the exception of Stewart, who they can't stand and actively try to avoid. However, the "heterosexual" part isn't always very steady.
  • Hormone-Addled Teenager: Both of them take a liking to scantily clad women and want to get in bed with them. Not to mention they crack at least one sex joke per episode.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: Even when they get their asses kicked by Todd, they still think he's cool and aspire to join his gang. In fact, every single hoodlum, criminal, and Jerkass they meet is "cool" by their standards. Then again, when you consider their priorities and interests, it's not that surprising.
  • The Hyena: Their constant laughter is one of their defining traits.
  • Idiot Houdini: Both of them have gotten away with a lot of things that they shouldn't have, even crashing a plane in the Middle East.
  • Innocently Insensitive: These two aren't exactly innocent, but they do sometimes fail to realize when their language towards people is considered insulting, as opposed to a bunch of deliberate shots they take at stuff.
  • Insane Troll Logic: Due to their low intelligence, they are quite prone to this. In "Sexual Harassment", they accuse a female classmate of sexual harassment because her attractive appearance gave them erections.
  • Insufferable Imbecile: They infamously defined this trope for the '90s with the eponymous slacker metalhead duo, who cared for little except for music videos and chicks. Beavis is the somewhat nicer but also less smart and assertive of the duo, albeit not quite enough to avoid this trope.
  • Iron Butt Monkey: They've never had any permanent side effects from their innumerable Amusing Injuries. The Movie has them get out of a high speed moving car, skip across a high way, with Beavis being incredibly bruised up and Butthead smashing into Anderson's car, and the next scene they are completely fine. Injuries stick more likely if they're part of the episode plot.
  • It Amused Me: The reason behind most of their misdeeds is that they find them cool.
  • It's All About Me: All they care about is fulfilling their schemes to become rich, get laid, or satisfy themselves, disregarding the well-being of others in the process.
  • Jabba Table Manners: Both of them have dumped food into their mouths and chewed with their mouths open, mostly candy, fast food, and nachos.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Jerk: Both, more so Butt-Head, are prone to verbally attacking that which they do not find cool (at least if it bothers them) or someone who does something they (often through misunderstanding) find unwise. They never really help anything if it doesn't benefit their selfish needs. In one of the rare moments that they actually do work or help, they ended up making things worse. And the rarer times they actually did wind up doing some good, more often than not, it's a misfire of them trying to make things worse for amusement.
  • Karma Houdini Warranty: In the original run, the duo got away with every bad thing they did that caused Tom Anderson inconvenience at best or humiliation and suffering at worst. In the 2022 revival, they finally pay some penalties for the things they did to Anderson in both main universe and alterate universe where Anderson either maces them in the eyes or beats them up along with fellow veterans.
  • Karmic Butt-Monkey: A lot of bad things can happen to them throughout the series and there's no doubt in anyone's mind that any beating or humiliation they receive is something they've fully brought upon themselves.
  • Lack of Empathy: They generally couldn't care less when others are suffering. In "A Very Special Episode", they are amused when told a baby bird is going to die. In "Breakdown", they show no remorse for immobilizing McVicker with their antics and even cheer when McVicker goes through electroshock therapy.
  • Laughably Evil: Played with to "Laughably Stupid". Neither of the two are people many would want to keep around if they exist in real life, but it's just so hard not to laugh at their antics and their stupidity.
  • Lazy Bum: They would rather eat and watch TV than do their homework or chores. They are more than willing to cut class or ditch work whenever they feel like it.
  • Lean and Mean: Both of them are quite slim and have a complete lack of manners to boot.
  • Lethally Stupid: Their extreme lack of intelligence has caused a lot of destruction.
  • Likes Older Women: Most of the females they hit on are in their 20s or 30s, sometimes older. Of course, they're too stupid to realize that they themselves are too underage to have sex with, let alone that the women are already far out of their league.
  • Loser Protagonist: They are moronic, perverted, obnoxious losers whose goals for sex and fortune will always end in vain due to their own stupidity.
  • Lovable Sex Maniac: Beavis and Butt-Head make us laugh with their attempts to lose their virginities, though they can never score.
  • Made of Iron: It's amazing that they still alive after everything they've been put through.
Content warning:Beavis and Butt-Head are not role models. They're not even human; they're cartoons. Some of the things they do would cause a person to get hurt, expelled, arrested, and possibly deported. To put it another way: Don't try this at home.
  • Manchild: In the 2022 revival series, Old Beavis and Old Butt-Head haven't matured one bit since they were teenagers in the '90s.
  • Metal Head: As shown in the Metallica and AC/DC shirts they always wear.
  • Minor Living Alone: They definitely don't live with their parents; no other adult authority figure (outside of the Highland High staff) is ever seen or mentioned. The show never explains how this happened; no one at their school seems aware of it. Though it's hinted they live with their mothers (and it's likely they handle the house bills); they're just never around. From their talk about them and Do America, it's heavily hinted that they're actually prostitutes or call girls. In Do the Universe, it's confirmed that the house belongs to Beavis' mother.
  • Mistaken for Gay: Old Beavis and Butthead in "Married" are assumed to be partners due to spending their whole lives with each other. Being the guys they are, they don't pick up on this and just assume any women who show them support are actually making passes at them.
  • Mondegreen Gag: Because of their low IQ, they constantly mishear some words as something else — often as something sexual.
  • Music/Age Dissonance: Somewhat by accident, but their love of heavy metal, while contemporaneous with kids their age when the show debuted, practically makes them walking anachronisms in 2022, a time where most teenagers don't even know who AC/DC and Metallica are.
  • Never Gets Fat: Zig-zagged. They are somehow very slim in spite of their diet consisting of nothing but junk food such as nachos, cheeseburgers, and pizza. One possibility is that they burn most of the calories by walking around town a lot. The only times they become out-of-shape are in "Supersize Me" and as middle-aged men.
  • Never Learned to Read: They are generally illiterate, either misreading signs/labels as something else or finding them too difficult to understand. In "School Test", they take several hours to write their names; Beavis can't even do it correctly, writing his as "Beafis".
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: More often than not, their stupidity will end up botching their attempts to screw others over, to the point of making things better. In "Jump!", they accidentally save the life of a suicidal jumper when they actually wanted him to kill himself for their own amusement.
  • No Full Name Given: Unlike most of the other characters, their full names are never revealed. All we know is Beavis is his surname.
  • Nominal Hero: Whenever they end up doing something heroic, it's usually completely unintentional on their part in their quest to do something they find cool.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: Both of them have far more cartoonishly exaggerated appearances compared to the more realistic designs of just about everyone else in the show.
  • Not Allowed to Grow Up:
    • Invoked in Do The Universe, where they get sucked into a wormhole from 1998 to 2022, not aging a bit. Their smart versions show them what they would be like if the black hole incident never happened, where they are filthy, dumb middle-aged men.
    • Season 8 shows them watching early 2010s media such as Jersey Shore, Twilight, etc, without having aged a bit.
  • Obliviously Evil: For the most part, they're just plain clueless to the destruction they cause.
  • Oblivious to Hatred: They want to be friends with Todd, despite how often he bullies, insults, beats them up, and gets them into trouble. They don't mind being assaulted by him, and they think he only does it because he is "cool".
  • One Dialogue, Two Conversations: Virtually every conversation they have with anyone other than each other amounts to this. They have absolutely no interest in what others have to say to them, nor do they have the attention spans needed to process it. In most cases, they'll either ignore what the other person is saying outside of any words or phrases that could be interpreted as innuendo or completely misconstrue what is being said to be relevant to whatever their own current goal is (which is usually scoring).
  • Pathetically Weak: The two of them are so weak that they can't lift an empty barbell. While barbells on their own can be slightly heavier than they look, they're usually not that heavy.
  • The Peeping Tom: The two of them try to peep in on Van Driessen getting intimate with his date in "Date Watchers" and get upset when the curtains are covered up on them. After that, they knock and demand to be allowed to watch, resulting in Van Driessen finally leaving the house with his girlfriend.
  • The Pig-Pen: They care nothing about their personal hygiene. This is actually part of the plot of the episode "Tainted Meat". When Beavis' privates are itching like crazy, he can't stop scratching at Burger World, not even bothering to wash his hands before putting patties on the grill. Everyone who eats at Burger World as a result gets food poisoning, with health experts outright stating that they have never seen such aggressive bacteria.
  • Politically Incorrect Hero: "Politically Incorrect Protagonists" would be more accurate in their cases. Regardless, Beavis and Butt-Head are pretty sexist.
  • Quest for Sex: They always do whatever they can to "score". Of course, because of their stupidity and social ineptitude, they never succeed.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Beavis and Butt-head, respectively. Beavis is more emotional and prone to outbursts, while Butt-Head is a lot more stoic and lazier.
  • Sadist: They always sit back and enjoy when others are beaten, maimed, or suffering in front of them.
  • Signature Laugh: Uhhh-huh-huh-huh! Hehehehehehe!
  • Sinister Schnoz: Downplayed, but the two have rather sizeable noses and are known for their delinquent behavior. Interestingly, Butt-Head's nose is also larger, which is rather fitting given his abuse of Beavis and generally nastier disposition.
  • The Slacker: Very much so. The two never do their homework, constantly screw around at their jobs, and overall spend most of their time watching TV and doing whatever the plot drives them to do.
  • The Sociopath: They are generally completely unempathetic towards others, laughing at, ignoring, or encouraging those who are going through horrible troubles. Butt-Head is the worst of the two and is even diagnosed as a sociopath by a school psychologist, as revealed in the episode "Refuse Service" during a music video commentary.
  • Springtime for Hitler: In "A Very Special Episode", they actually manage to recover a crippled baby bird... while they were trying to do the complete opposite because watching it die might be interesting. They only decided to feed it because they stupidly thought that the bird would only die after it had eaten.
  • Straw Loser: They are so stupid and pathetic that they make any other loser or lowlife look brilliant by comparison.
  • Stupid Evil: They range from feelings of "whatever" to hate for virtually everything that has nothing to do with junk food, sex, mayhem, or the music they like, including air.
  • Teens Are Monsters: Both of them act in such a way that it's easy why one can see them as total assholes, while with little respect for authority.
  • Temporary Bulk Change: In "Supersize Me", they become morbidly obese after eating nothing but fast food for 30 days straight in order to become famous like Morgan Spurlock of Super Size Me. Of course, they did this without knowing the actual message of the documentary.
Butt-Head: Yeah. Teen obesity kicks ass!
  • They Killed Kenny Again: Several episodes end with the boys approaching certain death, only to show up alive and well in the very next episode. With the multiverse firmly established by 2022, it's likely these are alternate realities showing the duo will get themselves killed sooner or later.
  • This Loser Is You: Pretty much the ultimate example. Beavis and Butt-Head are stereotype of slackers, metalheads, and troublemakers, which enough people would suppose from a majority of their fans.
  • Toilet Humor: They like to make jokes about "Number Two" in addition to their sexual humor.
  • Too Dumb to Live: They can barely read and they do stuff that would risk getting a normal person killed, or at least injured. Multiple episodes have one or both of them do something stupid and dangerous (such as getting stuck in a pipe, eating a piece of chicken that they then choke on, or sitting on a photocopier and falling through it), then doing the same thing again at the end of the episode, having learned nothing. In one episode, they forgot how to urinate, to the utter disbelief of their principal.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: The boys love junk food in general. Gas station nachos, fast food like burgers and pizza, candy, chips, and tacos just to name a few. In fact, one of the few motivations for the boys to bother to even show up at school is when the cafeteria serves tacos.
  • Ultimate Job Security: They've never shown any ounce of competence at their job at Burger World and have gotten the place closed for health code violations at least once, not to mention blatant workplace violations such as fighting each other in an attempt to earn workman's compensation or going "on strike" and just refusing to work for no reason. Yet they were never shown as having been fired.
  • Uncleanliness Is Next to Ungodliness: They are Unsympathetic Comedy Protagonists who care nothing about their personal hygiene. In "Tainted Meat", Beavis scratches his junk like crazy at Burger World and accesses the grill without washing his hands first, causing a disease outbreak and leaving 15 hospitalized.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: They usually won't thank anyone who helps them.
  • Unintentionally Karmic: Their stupidity has often gotten other people punished or humiliated. Nevertheless, their victims sometimes end up deserving it due to being either as unpleasant as they are or too negligent to prevent the fiasco from happening themselves. Three episodes that come to mind are "Steamroller", "Prank Call", and "Drones".
  • Unsympathetic Comedy Protagonist: They're both mischievous delinquents whose antics cause all sorts of trouble, but that's why the audience loves them.
  • Villainous Glutton: They are selfish, amoral delinquents who tend to binge on junk food (especially nachos). In "Supersize Me", they became morbidly obese in a misguided attempt to become rich and famous.
  • Villain Protagonist: They're both prone to being jerkasses to what they don't find cool enough, and their main antagonist is a principal who's suffering from nervous breakdowns because of the duo's abuse.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: They form a very clear example, verbally attacking each other quite often. Especially since almost everyone else who knows them can't stand them and, often enough, vice-versa. They are prone to using each other rather than being 'buds', for that matter.
Butt-Head: (to Beavis) Shut up, buttknocker! *whack*
  • Walking Disaster Area: They tend to wreak havoc wherever they go simply by being present, creating traffic collisions, mass destruction, and public disarray, among other things. In Do America, the duo creates more havoc than actual terrorists with their stupidity, such as causing a massive power outage and flooding by setting foot in the Hoover Dam.
  • Who Would Be Stupid Enough?: These guys would. One example of many being flying a kite during a thunderstorm after watching a documentary of Benjamin Franklin's famous kite flying; when a Media Watchdog interviews them and sees the TV listing, she said "no it couldn't be" so she asked if they watching anything else, Butt-Head said they also watched music videos.
  • Wins by Doing Absolutely Nothing: This is how the duo can sometimes defeat people who are antagonistic toward them.
    • In "PTA", all they had to do was be present and annoying enough while physically doing nothing to the point McVicker loses it and gets into a fight with one of the parents while getting Buzzcut in legal trouble simply by casually mentioning how he was abusive to them.
    • They also do the same with Mr. Manners/Candy by just standing there while the salesman physically threatens them. Then they get to happily sit back and watch while Van Driessen or Buzzcut makes the save for them and starts fighting or pummeling the motivational speaker.
    • In the Christmas Episode, they just walk off while refusing Charlie's suggestion for Butt-Head to kill himself and afterwards, Charlie slips and falls into the river while trying to protest Butt-Head's decision.
  • With Friends Like These...: Considering Butt-Head's endless tormenting and abuse of Beavis. The two of them put together also count as this for Stewart. Not to mention that Beavis once told that Butthead is "not really my friend".
  • Younger Than They Look: In the 2022 series, Old Beavis and Butt-head have wrinkles and a receding hairline, even though should be in their late 30s or early 40s. This is likely due to their lazy, sedentary lifestyle, with poor eating habits and self-destructive tendencies. Humorously, Tom Anderson appears younger in the alternate timeline, considering he's likely in his 90s.

    Beavis
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/beavis_6360.jpg

Beavis is (even) dumber than Butt-Head, and more than a little crazy. He has an alter ego called "The Great Cornholio" that emerges when he has too much sugar or caffeine.

Tropes associated with Beavis:

  • Adaptational Intelligence: Do America depicts him as a Genius Ditz who's slightly smarter than Butt-Head.
  • Affably Evil: Well... evil maybe a bit of a stretch, but he's genuinely outgoing with people whenever he's not creating chaos with Butt-Head.
  • Ambiguous Innocence: On the one hand, Beavis' head is always in the gutter; he has an appetite for destruction and a disturbing obsession with fire. However, he can also be polite when left to his own devices, is capable of enjoying more childish pursuits, and has the impression that a relationship can involve more than just sex, implying he may just be a dumb kid who doesn't know any better. "It's a Miserable Life" shows that without Butt-Head, Beavis could have grown up to become a decent, if still incredibly dim, person, showing his worst aspects are due to Butt-Head's influence, bullying, and pressure. That said, when Butt-Head does become a nicer person in "Nice Butt-Head", Beavis becomes furious and eventually gives Butt-Head a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown to try and restore him to his previous self.
  • Ax-Crazy: Shows some hints of this whenever Butt-Head pushes him too far.
  • Bad Boss: In "Huh-Huh-Humbug" as an expy of Ebenezer Scrooge.
  • Berserk Button:
    • Out of every insult slung at him, "buttknocker" is the one that particularly sets Beavis off, as seen in "Murder Site".
    • Never, ever complain about scoring in front of Beavis. It'll drive him into a blind rage as shown in a reaction video in the 2022 revival episode "Bone Hunters".
  • Big Ol' Eyebrows: He has very prominent, wavy, caterpillar-like eyebrows.
  • Character Catchphrase:
    • "Boi-oi-oi-oi-oi-oi-oi-oing-ng-ng-ng-ng!" He usually says this to indicate when he's got an erection.
    • As Cornholio, he has two: "I am the Great Cornholio! I need TP for my bunghole!" and "Are you threatening me?"
    • "Thank you, drive-through".
    • "Hey, how's it going?" His go-to greeting to anyone he meets.
  • Characterization Marches On: In the earlier seasons, Beavis spoke much less and often just said "yeah". Also, his laugh sounded more like he was clearing his throat.
  • Cheated Angle: He nearly always has his face in ¾ view, no matter which way his body is facing.
  • The Chew Toy: More prone to Amusing Injuries. He's also easily tricked and manipulated by Butt-Head.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: More eccentric and crazy than Butt-Head.
  • Clueless Chick-Magnet: Unlike Butt-Head, Beavis actually has had girls show an attraction to him. These being the lady who runs the dating agency in "Vidiots", the female prison guard in Virtual Stupidity, and Glennis in "Weird Girl". However, in all these cases, he's completely oblivious to their very obvious attractions toward him, so nothing ever comes of it.
  • Collector of the Strange: In "The Pipe Of Doom", he states that instead of flushing his poop down the toilet, he puts them in little jars and brings them to his basement. Butt-Head tells him that's disgusting.
  • Creepy Blue Eyes: At one point in the Mushroom Samba scene in the movie, he is shown with electric blue eyes while Butt-Head is shown with brown eyes.
  • Depending on the Writer: How much of a Jerkass Beavis is. Some episodes portray him as significantly nicer than Butt-Head, while others show that he's nearly as bad as Butt-Head, if not just as bad, period. In episodes with Stewart, Beavis especially tends to come off as just as much of a caustic asshole as Butt-head for his treatment of Stewart, if not moreso considering there are episodes that try to emphasize the good traits of Beavis and his treatment of Stewart can really undercut other episodic attempts to emphasize his good characteristics.
  • The Ditz: Butt-Head isn't too bright, but Beavis makes him look average in intelligence.
  • The Dog Bites Back: He has limits to Butt-Head's abuse, particularly whenever he kicks him in the nuts.
  • Dumb Blonde: Has blonde hair and the IQ of a human brick.
  • Dumb Is Good: Beavis is the dumber of the duo, but also the nicer of the duo.
  • Even Bad Men Love Their Mamas: Implied. He dislikes it when Butt-Head calls his mom a slut, suggesting that Beavis still loves his mom despite his mischievous nature.
  • Everyone Has Standards: In the episode "Ball Breakers", Beavis wonders about people facing collateral damage for a destructive experiment. Butt-Head waves this off as unlikely.
  • Extreme Doormat: He generally just stands there and lets Butt-Head abuse him constantly, though he does have limits. It's seemingly one of the few things that doesn't change in "It's A Miserable Life".
  • Fingore: In "Woodshop", he accidentally slices his finger off after touching the saw. He picks his nose with the finger after it's reattached, causing it to fall off again.
  • Forehead of Doom: His eyes and nose are scrunched down his face, which leaves a very prominent forehead that curves into his large pompadour hair.
  • Hates Being Touched: This may be a result of the molestation he mentions in their commentary on Deadmau5's "Ghosts and Stuff", though Beavis, being Beavis, is fairly nonchalant about the whole thing when he talks about it. Overall, though, he specifically dislikes being touched by men, but is quite okay with women touching him.
  • Here We Go Again!: At least two episodes end with Beavis doing the same stupid, dangerous thing that Butt-Head had done earlier in the story. In "Pipe of Doom", he climbs into the same construction pipe that Butt-head had just been rescued from and gets trapped himself. In "Choke", he actually chokes on the same piece of chicken that Butt-head had previously half-eaten. Also see Too Dumb to Live below.
  • Hidden Heart of Gold: Downplayed, but he's definitely a lot nicer than Butt-Head.
  • Hot-Blooded: More excitable and easily angered than Butt-Head.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Although he can be a prick similar to Butt-Head, he's never really been as malicious about it. note  It's shown in the second Christmas special that most of Beavis negative traits are caused by being around Butt-Head, and that without him he would have been a somewhat dim, but nice guy.
  • Kavorka Man: While he is usually a failure when it comes to attracting women, unlike Butt-Head, Beavis has shown to be able to hook up with some girls once in a while. Justified, as he is arguably better looking than Butt-Head and usually treats women with respect while greeting them.
  • Keet: He is quite excitable and unpredictable, often shaking his hands like crazy or being a Motor Mouth.
  • Kiddie Kid: For a teenager, he's shown to be quite immature. In "Held Back", he enthusiastically joins the other kindergarteners in finger painting and coloring. And in "Babysitting", he enjoys himself by playing the toys that are meant for the little children, who he’s supposed to be babysitting.
  • Large Ham: His Cornholio persona is even louder than he normally is and speaks in a bombastic way.
  • Last-Name Basis: Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe confirms that Beavis is actually his surname.
  • Oblivious to Love:
    • In the episode "Weird Girl", he is completely clueless about Glennis' interest in him, interpreting it for her wanting to beat him up.
    • He also has no idea that the young lady who interviews him and Butt-Head at the dating agency in "Vidiots" quite clearly has the hots for him despite her not being the least bit subtle about it.
  • Perpetual Smiler: "Yeah, I've got a cool smile. *Beat* See?"
  • Pet the Dog: Even though he often likes to torment Stewart along with Butt-Head, in "Choke", he willingly gives him nachos for money.
  • Pyromaniac: "FIRE! FIRE! FIRE!" It was toned down after that incident with the boy who set his trailer on fire and his mom blamed it on the show (despite that the family didn't have cable TV in their house), but when the show was revived in 2011, they brought it back.
  • Real Men Don't Cry: When the two are watching an expy of The Bachelor, Beavis accidentally eats a smelly onion slice, and he tears up because of it. Butt-Head sees him crying, and assumes that he was doing it because of the show. He then decides to mock Beavis throughout the episode with this trope, much to his anger. He even does it to Beavis while they are old and at a nursing home until Butt-Head has a heart attack.
  • Saw "Star Wars" Twenty-Seven Times: The book Huh Huh for Hollywood says that he saw Backdraft twenty seven times.
  • Screams Like a Little Girl:
    • His scream was pretty high back in the show's heyday. Not so much in the revival, though.
    • In Do The Universe, he lets out a very high-pitched scream that destroys everything in the gym after getting kicked in the groin by the "Fieldgoal 3000".
  • Sdrawkcab Speech:
    • A music video viewing in an episode once shows that he has this ability.
    • Also, in the movie during his Mushroom Samba, he says a sentence completely backwards. When played in reverse, he says, "You all should go to college and study hard".
  • Signature Laugh: "HEH HEH, HMMHM, HEHEH", does this very often to the point it's pretty much how he breathes.
  • Son of a Whore: Butt-Head constantly insinuates that Beavis's mother is a "slut". Beavis himself seems to confirm this when he tells Butt-Head "My mom's a slut, not a whore. She doesn't charge money".
  • Split Personality: "The Great Cornholio", which emerges when Beavis has too much sugar, caffeine or drugs.
  • Sugar Causes Hyperactivity: Consuming large amounts of sugar from candy or soda is just one way to transform him into Cornholio.
  • Sweet Tooth: He enjoys eating candy. In fact, this is usually what brings out Cornholio.
  • Talkative Loon: His Cornholio persona mutters gibberish that generally combines repeating the last phrase that he heard spoken to him with needing "teepee for [his] bunghole".
  • They Killed Kenny Again: Beavis has died at least three times. He's been killed by the Crazy Farmer on two of the occasions, and in "The Good Deed", he and Butt-Head both die from excessively drinking DDT.
  • Too Dumb to Live: He's dumb enough to make Butt-Head look cunning and articulate by comparison, often putting himself in dangerous situations such as losing his finger from touching a powersaw and getting stuck in a copy machine from sitting on the glass.
  • Vocal Dissonance: For a teenager, he has quite a raspy voice.
  • Vocal Evolution: Starting with the revival, his voice has gotten deeper. It's particularly noticeable when he is yelling, no longer sounding so much like a madman.
  • Your Size May Vary: Whether he is the same height as Butt-Head or slightly shorter than him varies in many shots. Yes, he is definitely shorter than him without his large puffy pompadour, but sometimes even that addition does not make him tall enough to reach Butt-Head.

    Butt-Head
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/butt-head_3823.png

The series's other protagonist, Butt-Head is slightly more intelligent than Beavis (for whatever that's worth) and usually comes up with the duo's Zany Schemes to meet girls or make money. He's also calmer and more emotionally stable than his partner, albeit (in some situations, even) more of a jerk as well.

Tropes associated with Butt-Head:

  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other:
  • Bad Bedroom, Bad Life: As seen in "Scientific Stuff", Butt-Head’s room is essentially great lumps of dirt and different kinds of objects and empty cans scattered around the floor with murky walls. Even the bed isn’t tidy. Luckily for him, Butt-Head never seems to sleep in there, anyhow. Would you want to be resting in that kind of environment? Although, knowing Butt-Head, he probably wouldn’t care about the mess if he decided to sleep in there, anyway.
  • Boisterous Weakling: Butt-Head likes to threaten people a lot, but invariably folds towards even the slightest bit of resistance.
  • Braces of Orthodontic Overkill: A flashback in the movie shows him to have these. He currently has a regular set of braces in the present day.
  • Brainy Brunette: Inverted. He has brown hair and is a complete idiot.
  • The Bully: He constantly hits and insults Beavis, and never shows an ounce of concern when Beavis is in a life-threatening predicament (being severely beaten is usually the case). He is also seen as the more aggressive of the two and more likely to insult and belittle those who fall short of their "cool" book.
  • Cannot Tell a Joke: He's too stupid to come up with one that's fluent or doesn't involve innuendos.
  • Casanova Wannabe:
    • Unlike Beavis, Butt-Head has pretty much no chance of hooking up with women. He is even uglier than Beavis and tends to treat women chauvinistically. Any attempt to hook up with them usually blows up in his face.
    • This even applies to real life when our heroes read fan mail in "Letters To Santa Butt-Head" and several of the female fans talk about wanting to be with Beavis. Beavis is obviously excited, while a jealous Butt-Head wonders why there are so many "stupid chicks" out there.
  • Character Catchphrase: While none are quite as iconic as Beavis' Cornholio routine, he tends to say "Whoa", "Cool", "Oh yeah", "Settle down, Beavis!", "Come to Butt-Head", and "Hey, baby" a lot.
  • Commonality Connection: When he meets Chelsea Clinton in the movie, he tried to connect with her by saying that both have braces. It doesn’t work.
  • The Cynic: Unless it has something to do with TV, sex, destruction, or junk food, Butt-Head will just think it sucks.
  • Deadpan Snarker: At times, usually if Beavis is being stupider than usual.
(while watching "Gin and Juice" by Snoop Dogg)
Beavis: Hey, Butt-Head, do you know I'm from Compton?
Butt-Head: Dammit, Beavis, shut up. You're not from Compton.
Beavis: No, wait, Butt-Head, I'm serious. I was kickin' it on the streets. It was hard times. I used to drink Gin and Juice. It was cool.
Butt-Head: Beavis... you're a white wussy from right here.
Beavis: No way, Butt-Head, you don't know, you weren't around then. Yeah, me and Snoop used to go to the Compton swap meet together.
Butt-Head: Beavis, you used to go to the flea market with your mom.
Beavis: See, I wore this shirt cuz these are my colors.
    Butt-Head: Beavis...
    Beavis: Yep, I'm a straight G.
    Butt-Head: ...shut up.
Beavis: Yep. Got out of a Compton swap meet with Snoop. Used to kick it with Dre.
Butt-Head: Beavis, shut up. You've never been to Compton. you're never gonna go to Compton, you're gonna be here for the rest of your life, you're stupid, you don't have any money, and you're never gonna score.
    Beavis: Um, oh yeah.
  • Depending on the Writer: His relationship with Beavis. In some episodes, he doesn't seem to mind Beavis, while in others, he physically and verbally abuses him.
  • Dope Slap: When Beavis is acting stupider than him or says something he doesn't like, Butt-Head usually responds by slapping him.
  • Drives Like Crazy: Whenever he gets behind the wheel, he's a danger to the road and his passengers. He once actually made the unflappable Coach Buzzcut scream in terror as they hurtle into a truck.
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": Even teachers and other professionals, indicating that it really is his name. There are fanon names, such as Buford and Benjamin, but the show makes it clear that Butt-Head is his real name.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • Butt-Head would go out of his way to see a woman in the nude, but he has his limits when it come to a guy's body... he doesn’t want to see any part of a guy in the nude, especially Beavis. He often made it clear that he doesn’t want to see Beavis's privates.
    • As dumb as he, he rightfully brings up how suspicious a grief counselor inviting Beavis to his apartment is. He seems pretty shocked as he realizes Beavis was most likely raped.
    • In the 2022 revival, Butt-Head is disappointed in Beavis for liking BTS, but catching him dancing on the couch by twerking his butt is enough to call him out on it, preferring him to have taken a dump on it... or do homework.
    • As callous as he is to Beavis' well-being, not caring when he's getting severely beaten or maimed, he still doesn't want him to die, as he lets Beavis recover before he could continue his "game" with him in "Take a Bow".
  • Faux Affably Evil: Unlike Beavis, all acts of kindness done by Butt-Head have ulterior motives.
  • Full-Name Basis: It's not just his real name, it's his first and last names combined! One episode has another person asking Butt-Head his name. He replies that it's "Butt". When the other character asks what his family name is, he replies "Head".
  • Hates Being Touched: Whilst both have shades of this, it's especially prevalent in Butt-Head. He gets violent whenever a dentist or medical staff attempt to treat him, always threatening to kick their asses, which in one offscreen case he actually does.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • He's very knowledgeable about a number of things you wouldn't expect, most notably Classical Mythology. Though when you think about it, it's hardly surprising he'd know about Sterculius, being that he's the Roman god of feces.
    • Like Beavis, he can also come with some very insightful commentary on pop culture. This is especially prevalent in Season 8.
    • He's smart enough to realize he's going to get beat up and frame Beavis for something he did.
  • His Name Really Is "Barkeep":
    • His teachers and everyone else who knows him well all call him Butt-Head. In one cartoon, when another character asks him his first name, he says it's "Butt". When the other character asks his family name, he says it's "Head".
    • In the episode "Spiritual Journey", Audrey calls him "Brodrick". However, this still isn't his real name.
  • Hypocrite: Constantly insults Beavis by calling him a "dumbass", despite being incredibly stupid himself.
  • Irony: Enjoys constantly insulting Beavis by calling his mom a slut. All the while his own mom was heavily implied to be a slut herself in the movie Beavis and Butt-Head Do America.
  • Jerkass: Unlike Beavis, who is a bit polite, Butt-Head has about no redeeming features whatsoever. It's even been stated and outright confirmed that the world would literally be a better place without him there to cause havoc. What stops him from being as bad as Todd is that he is incredibly stupid, therefore easier to laugh at.
  • Karma Houdini: Out of the duo, he's the one who tends to get away more with his vile actions; he treats Beavis like absolute crap, and, besides a few moments where he actually retaliates, never gets called out for it.
  • Know-Nothing Know-It-All: He has an answer for every question Beavis asks and talks with full confidence when he does so, but is still always dead wrong.
  • Lazy Bum: He'd usually slouch around eating junk food (particularly nachos) while forcing Beavis to do all the work.
  • The Leader: The closest to one of the duo; Beavis normally just goes along with his ideas.
  • Major Injury Underreaction: He said it was cool when he got ran over by a school bus rather than realizing he almost got killed.
  • Malicious Misnaming: He often calls Principal McVicker "McDicker". Given his own jerkass tendencies however, it's not entirely undeserved.
  • Meaningful Name: His first name is "Butt" and he's obsessed with defecation and genitals. His last name is "Head" and he's just as obsessed with sex. He's also a complete jerkass, which makes him a butt-head in another sense.
  • The Millstone: In the alternate world where he doesn't exist shown in "It's a Miserable Life", Butt-Head sees Burger World doing much better as well as Tom Anderson having a nice yard because he wasn't there to drive away the customers or ruin Tom's work.
  • Never My Fault: Whenever they both screw up something, he always blames it on Beavis, who, being the dumber of the two, apologizes, even though it wasn't completely his fault.
  • Not So Stoic: He has his moments of showing extreme emotion, like when he gets kicked in the nads, and when the duo yelled things in the show's earlier seasons, where his yelling sounded exactly like Beavis'.
  • Perpetual Frowner: He is almost never shown smiling, even while he is laughing, mainly due to the design of his mouth.
  • Pet the Dog:
    • There actually were occasions where Butt-Head told Beavis that he's "cool". Also, in the film Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe, Butt-Head genuinely misses Beavis after they briefly parted ways after fighting with each other.
    • While Butt-Head indeed usually doesn't care about anyone or feel remorse for his actions, "Take a Bow" shows him feeling bad about potentially killing Beavis and being happy that he recovered from the testicular injuries Butt-Head caused him.
  • Pubescent Braces: Butt-Head is an awkward high schooler who wears braces and always tries to score girls.
  • Signature Laugh: "UH HUH-huh-huh... UH". Like Beavis, he does this so often that it's pretty much how he breathes.
  • The Sociopath: He was actually diagnosed as such by the school psychiatrist, as revealed in their video commentary for Olivia Rodrigo's "good 4 u", and she wasn't wrong, as he is consistently the most amoral and least caring of the duo.
Butt-Head: That school psychiatrist said I was one of those. But it didn't matter, 'cause I don't care about her at all. Or anyone else, really. Uh huh huh. I don't care about others. Uh huh huh huh huh. Uh huh huh huh.
  • The Stoic: His voice is monotone and his face is inexpressive, with only his eyes widening. Even his screams are just loud "Uhhh!"s. His reaction to almost everything is simply to describe it as "cool", regardless of what it is.
  • Stupidly Long Filler Sound: Butt-Head often responds to questions with a leading "Uhhh ..." as his little-used mind tries to catch up to his much-used mouth. These "uhhh"s are especially lengthy when Butt-Head is caught prevaricating, and he tries to formulate a blame-shift or cover story.
  • Third-Person Person: Often when he notices a female in his vicinity.
    Butt-Head: Come to Butt-Head.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Downplayed. While he was already a Jerkass before, in the second revival he's an even bigger jerk towards Beavis, tied in with the times he gets away with it. A couple of exceptions, however, are "Take A Bow", where he does feel remorse for hurting Beavis and potentially killing him, and the episodes which take place in the alternative timeline, where he is surprisingly nicer to him.
  • Toxic Friend Influence: In the Christmas Episode, "It's a Miserable Life", Butt-Head is taken to an alternate world where he doesn't exist. One of the changes show that Beavis turned out to be a much better person without him. He's still an idiot, just much nicer and actually pleasant. Similarly, Stewart is shown to have much better self-esteem. Beavis is also more friendly towards Stewart when Butt-Head is not around.
  • Vocal Evolution:
    • His voice gets a bit more nasally and high-pitched in the latter half of the original run. Also, in earlier episodes, he had a tendency to sound like Beavis, particularly when playing air guitar.
    • In the revival, his voice is slightly deeper, and he is less prone to raising his voice (as much as he can anyway).
  • Would Hurt a Child: During a visit to Mexico in their (yet) more sociopathic early episodes, the duo sees several kids around a pinata while one kid is playing with fireworks (something the two specifically wanted out of the trip). Once the pinata is broken and most of the kids are distracted by the candy, Butt-Head grabs the club and knocks the kid out cold in order to steal his fireworks.

Alternate Beavises and Butt-Heads

    Smart Beavis and Smart Butt-Head
Two alternate versions of Beavis and Butt-Head, and the smartest versions of the duo across the cosmos. But they still aren't very bright.
  • Alternate Self: The smartest versions of Beavis and Butt-Head, relatively speaking. They're highly intelligent on a cosmic scale but still somewhat lacking in common sense and competency similar to their main counterparts.
  • Alternate Universe Reed Richards Is Awesome: They hail from a highly advanced universe that has technology "you could only dream of" including the ability to access porn in any scenario you could imagine.
  • Bigger Is Better in Bed: Smart Beavis claims to have a "gigantic schlong" and hopes this isn't a deal-breaker with Serena.
  • Bizarre Alien Biology: Implied in "Abduction." Smart Beavis needs to be reminded how many anuses a human has, and their probing device has a dial that goes up to two.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Get their own episode and intro with "Abduction."
  • Didn't Think This Through: The two spend the entire movie trying to get Beavis and Butt-Head to travel through the portal, to the point of moving it several times. Only for the pair to realize they didn't even need Beavis and Butt-Head themselves with Smart Butt-Head remarking they could've thrown a brick in there.
  • Ditzy Geniuses: They might be intelligent, but they're still versions of Beavis and Butt-Head at the end of the day, with the sheer lack of common sense that comes with it.
  • Establishing Character Moment: When we are first introduced to them, they try to explain the multiverse by asking if they've seen "that cartoon Spider-Man movie" despite the fact the duo have been in 2022 for less than five minutes.
  • Expy: To Uatu, the Watcher. They even introduce the episode "Home Aide", much like the Watcher from What If?...
  • Good Counterpart: They're not only smarter than Beavis and Butt-Head, they're honestly much nicer too. Their friendship is based on mutual respect, they have more polite personalities in general, even with the slight Puny Earthlings attitude, and their concerns extend to trillions of lives and not just themselves as they spend the entirety of Do the Universe trying to save multiple universes from destruction.
  • Greek Chorus: They play this role in the 2022 revival, speaking directly to the audience as they introduce the latest exploit of Old Beavis and Butt-Head, whom they regard as their most fascinating incarnations across the multiverse.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: Unlike their counterparts, they're always shown being nice and respectful to one another, showing that they actually are best friends and don't just hang around with one another because no one else will.
  • Insufferable Genius: Downplayed. They're normally pretty polite, but they can't resist rubbing in how vastly superior their intellect is over all the foolish Earthlings.
  • Jerkass Ball: Under pain of death, they try to abduct Tom Anderson in order to anally probe him as part of a scientific experiment. To their credit, are polite to him, and intend to wipe his mind after the fact.
  • Love Confession: Smart Beavis interrupts Beavis's to confesses to Serena that he has grown to love her through observing her through the portal, and implores her to travel the cosmos with him. And also score. And it pays off! Unfortunately, Serena left immediately afterwards and ghosts him.
  • Made of Iron: They manage to survive getting thrown out of a car and getting run over several times.
  • My Brain Is Big: Their craniums are even larger than regular Beavis and Butt-Head's which emphasizes their superior intelligence and makes them look more alien.
  • Normal Fish in a Tiny Pond: When they appear in Beavis and Butt-head's universe, they're intelligent on a cosmic scale compared to the duo and everyone else. But by the standards of their own universe, they're not quite the brightest bulbs and have several moments that show they're not truly as smart as they seem, whether it's not being able to pilot their ship properly or being fooled into purchasing beachfront property on the moon by a scammer called "Melody 1998".
    • Outright shown in "Abduction" where they're such losers, that the Supreme Leaders want them killed because they spent two whole years observing Old Beavis and Butt-Head. and running up an expense account, rather than performing experiments or viewing other universes.
  • The Peeping Tom: Smart Butt-Head was able to watch Serena and Smart Beavis hook up by hiding in a suitcase at the foot of the bed. He gets rewarded by Empress Beavis for this with a medal saying "I WATCHED".
  • Prophet Eyes: Their race have evolved beyond the need for pupils.
  • Screw Destiny: Smart Beavis admitting his feelings for Serena allows him to be the first to score.
  • Spock Speak: Rarely uses contractions, and instead of laughing or giggling, their Verbal Tic is to comment on the situation at hand with words, like "quite homorous" or "very droll".
  • Their First Time: Though it happens off-screen, Smart Beavis becomes the first version of Beavis to ever score. Even if Serena ghosted him, he is still awarded a medal and a celebration is held in his honor.
  • Thinking Up Portals: The two have the ability to travel the multiverse this way.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Smart Butt-Head seriously doesn't know how to hold a ray-gun.
  • The Watcher:
    • They were entrusted by the Supreme Leaders to observe other universes. Smart Beavis fell in love with Serena by observing her through the portals. As a pun on this trope, Smart Butt-Head got to watch Smart Beavis score.
    • Their primary form of entertainment is to observe different versions of themselves across the multiverse, with the version of Beavis and Butt-Head who grew to middle age being their favorite. If an existential threat looms, however, they're willing to step in and take more direct action in things, as was the case in Do the Universe.

    Old Beavis
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20230723_110122.jpg
A version of Beavis that did not go through the black hole and aged normally from the 90s to the present day.
  • Absurdly Dedicated Worker:
    • As Old Butt-Head thinks that being unemployed is his job, Old Beavis is usually the breadwinner between the two. Usually, he donates sperm "kind of everywhere" and blood for extra money, although he has donated so much that it's now considered too watery.
    • In "Home Aide" because he's maxed out his unemployment benefits, he gets the titular job. Compared to his younger self, he actually does what to do the job he's told to, but Old Butt-Head takes advantage of it to treat him like a servant.
  • The Alcoholic: Now that he's legally old enough, his preferred drink is beer, and his favorite brand is Saint Ides.
  • Ascended Extra: Alongside Old Butt-head, he had one short scene in Beavis And Butthead Do The Universe. In the 2022 revival series, he's become a semi-regular with Old Butt-head and receives plenty of focus episodes.
  • Character Tics: He primarily wears glasses in present day, although he will usually adjust them, often whenever he needs to confirm or read something.
  • Formerly Fit: Downplayed. While he isn't as fat as Old Butt-Head, he still has gained a bit of a pot belly and hasn't aged well himself due to a lifestyle of smoking, drinking, and poor eating habits.
  • Hearing Voices: He still experiences this in present day, telling Old Butt-Head that he hears voices through the walls that tell him to "cleanse the city". Old Butt-Head confirms that you can indeed hear voices through the walls, but the ones Beavis hears are in his mind.
  • Psychopathic Manchild: Even after two decades, Old Beavis hasn't matured one bit, still enjoying fire and destruction, goofing around with Old Butt-Head, and being emotionally imbalanced in general.
  • Pyromaniac: Hasn't changed much in this regard, as he still loves fire, using his five minute portion to rant to the city council about how he believes everything should be burned. Old Butt-Head even yields his time to the council to continue to hear his ramblings.
  • Smoking Is Not Cool: Unlike Old Butt-Head, Old Beavis uses a vape rather than smoke tobacco. Of course, vaping is by no means healthy and just makes him almost as much of a mess healthwise as Old Butt-Head.
  • Toothy Issue: His teeth are in awful shape. Several are missing and others are grotesquely chipped.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: After ruining his kidneys, Old Beavis has to accept a donor kidney from Stewart. When Stewart uses the translant as an excuse to hang out with the duo, Old Beavis chugs a bottle of wine and ruins the donor kidney, making Stewart's sacrifice completely meaningless.
  • Younger Than They Look: He's in his forties, but he looks like he's in his sixties because of his unhealthy lifestyle. He actually looks older than Old Butt-Head.

    Old Butt-Head
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/old_butthead_8.jpeg
A version of Butt-Head that did not go through the black hole and aged normally from the 90s to the present day.
  • Ascended Extra: He only had one short scene with Old Beavis in Beavis And Butthead Do The Universe. In the 2022 revival series which takes place after the second movie, Old Butt-head is turned into a series semi-regular alongside Old Beavis, with the two of them getting more focus.
  • Big Guy, Little Guy: He towers over Old Beavis, who doesn't seem to have grown at all since his teen years.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: He cripples Old Beavis with his mobility scooter simply because the latter wanted to buy Count Chocula instead of beer at the supermarket.
  • Does Not Like Spam: Implied with Count Chocula; he attacks Old Beavis when the latter suggests buying it at the supermarket.
Old Butt-Head: We need beer, not, like, health food.
  • Early Installment Character-Design Difference: During "Home Aide" and his appearance in Do The Universe, he is shown to be so morbidly obese as to require a cane and a motor scooter, something that isn't necessary in his subsequent appearances as he's visibly slimmer, implying his other appearances possibly taken place before "Home Aide". He was also almost completely bald at the top, while later appearances have him with more hair. Despite this, he still appeared with his "healthier" look in the video segments for "Home Aide" and the show title card. As "Stolen Valor" possibly hints at, it's also likely Butt-head can walk around on his own but simply rides the scooter because he's lazy, since he's shown riding the scooter at the beginning but walks around fine on his own for the remainder of the episode.
  • Fat Bastard: He's put on a lot of weight over the years, and he's as much of a Jerkass as he's always been. He's even fatter in the "Home Aide" episode, getting to the point where he needs to use a scooter and cane to get around, and he's an even bigger jerk then.
  • Fat Idiot: He's fatter and older, but certainly no wiser.
  • Fat Slob: He has stacks and stacks of pizza boxes that he refuses to dispose of due to planning some business venture with them that he refuses to elaborate on. In fact, he makes a point that most of the garbage in the apartment remains right where it is.
  • Formerly Fit: Saying Butt-Head was ever "fit" can be stretching it, but as a teenager, he was noticeably slimmer and in decent shape. As the years went on, he has put on a lot of weight, likely as a result of his genes worsening with age combined with an unhealthy lifestyle. Do the Universe and "Home Aide" take this a step further; he is morbidly obese to the point of needing a cane and mobility scooter to get around.
  • The Millstone: Old Butt-Head is pretty much dragging Old Beavis down with him. He shoots down any attempt on the latter's part to seek gainful employment that could make them real money, and when Old Beavis actually gets a job taking care of Old Butt-Head, Butt-Head treats him like a slave, injures him, and renders him incapable of actually doing his new job.
  • The Pig-Pen: Much like his old teenage self, he never showers or bathes, save for when Old Beavis gives him a bath. His apartment is also extremely messy.
  • Smoking Is Not Cool: He's a chainsmoker, almost always seen with a cigarette in his hand at home. This has clearly taken its toll on his lungs since his laugh is interrupted by him coughing seconds into his first appearence and this habit has obviously only contributed to the terrible shape he's in.
  • They Call Me MISTER Tibbs!: He forces Old Beavis to call him "Mr. Butt-Head" in "Home Aide" lest he gets him fired.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: He's significantly more pleasant to Old Beavis in Season 10. In "Pardon Our Dust", he cedes his time for addressing the the city council to Old Beavis so he can continue ranting about fire and and almost compliments him on how much he loves fire. In "Married", he allows Old Beavis to share his seat on the ride home at the end and doesn't seem to mind when he realizes they're going to stay married. At worst, he just says they'll pretend it didn't happen so they can stay available for chicks.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Beer and pizza, given that's what he spends most of his money on.
  • Trash of the Titans: Like his old teenage self, he has his apartment in rambles, with empty pizza boxes, soda cups, dirty laundry, and other junk.
  • Younger Than They Look: He's in his forties, but he looks like he's in his sixties because of his unhealthy lifestyle. This is especially prevalent in his earlier appearances, where he is actually practically bald at the top.
