Dost Thou Even Steal Hearts? (formerly titled Doth Thou Even Steal Hearts?) is a Crossover between My Hero Academia and Persona 5, in which Joker and Morgana are sent together to the world of heroes. Desperate to find a way home and see if their friends are still alive, they end up in a position where they get the chance to become Phantom Thieves once more.

• Abled in the Adaptation: With Joker and Mona’s healing magic, they gave back Tensei’s legs. Any canon loss of limb or eye have been changed due to Joker and Mona’s influence on the plot such as making sure the war will never happen with their destruction of the LOV.
• Abusive Parents: We find out that both of Ren's parents weren't the most loving people, his mother being overbearing and his father an alcoholic.
• Abuse Mistake: An unusual example; Akira is mistaken for an illegal experiment of All For One who is currently on the run, which results in plenty of UA staff going to rather… extreme lengths to try and "rescue" him.
• Acceptable Breaks from Canon: As the manga is still on-going when the story is first published on AO3, much of the story has differences and did not include future tidbits such as All For One's escape from Tartarus and eventual possession of Shigaraki, Hawks infiltrating the League of Villains and Twice's death.
• Accidental Innuendo: In-Universe. Upon first meeting Akira and Hitoshi, the first thing Mei Hatsume says to them is to ask if they want to make babies with her. “Babies” being her inventions, of course.
• Accidental Murder: Narrowly averted, but Aizawa's quirk has such a negative reaction to Joker's personas that it nearly results in the latter's death, and does result in a short coma.
  • Joker summons Sraosha out of desperation, only for the Persona to outright kill All For One without Joker’s consent. Though this is played with in the fact that Joker’s personas are him, but also have their own will and desire, so it’s debatable how much it’s this trope and how much it’s I Did What I Had To on Sraosha’s part.
• Achilles' Heel: Joker's personas all have elemental weaknesses (though outside of Izuku, nobody figured this out while All For One only figured it out due to stealing Ragdoll’s quirk, not that it helped his successor and the rest of the team in any way because they’re still clueless), but Aizawa seems to be capable of taking them away as well. This is odd considering Joker's personas aren't a Quirk at all, and yet Aizawa can still erase them, hinting that Joker's powers have been altered due to the rules of the Quirkverse. He can still be overwhelmed and helmed by AFO who got Search, he’s more than a match though to be fair Ren suffered many mental breakdowns during the course, weakening him.
• Actually Pretty Funny:
  • At one point, Joker tricks the heroes with a decoy location whilst in the middle of an interview, going as far as to leave behind a stuffed fish plushie (a Red Herring, if you will), set off glitter bombs, and leave behind a taunting note, complete with a smiley face. Aizawa and Tsukauchi are furious, but Nezu and Midnight find it hysterical.
  • When Ren actually spoke up about which arcana bonds he had formed and telling Nezu that he is Ren's Devil arcana bond in the Quirkverse, Nezu's reaction is laughing hysterically because of how Nezu, who already has a reputation of being a devil, is now a literal devil.
• Adaptational Backstory Change:
  • Recovery Girl's backstory is not detailed at all in canon. Here, she has a similar story to Hawks except she was able to get out of there.
  • A mild example with Compress. His canon ancestor can still be Oji Harima but the most important one would be Arsene Lupin himself.
• Adaptation Name Change: Downplayed as Joker's true name is his Canon Name of Ren Amamiya, but he decides on Akira Kurusu as his go-to alias in the Quirkverse. Canonically, there is no current Hero Name for Hitoshi Shinsou but in this fic, it's Wild Card in honor of his best friend's ability. Downplayed when it comes to his Super Move Persona Chords which in this fic he named after Joker and Mona's ability name while in the original he named it because it can imitate voices.
• Adaptational Heroism: Spinner becomes a supporter of Joker rather than Stain, and doesn't join the League of Villains. In fact, he (and his cat, Lady Stubbs) eventually joins Joker's local branch of the Phantom Thieves.
• Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: Contrasting with their canonical True Companions status, the League of Villains was hit hard by this. Magne and Spinner never joined, Compress defected, and Toga's starting to feel the League is no longer a good place. Even Dabi was noted to be quiet and thoughtful when Toga observed him and shown to have serious doubts. Toga mentioned Twice don’t know what to do. The best picture would be Tomura asking the members to kill Compress if he betrays them when in canon, they took revenge for anyone that hurt their own; they really aren't close at all as nowhere do we see Tomura even say they’re True Companions when Tomura was willing to kill one of his own.
  • Ren and Mona’s local branch of Phantom Thieves. While Compress and Spinner are True Companions in canon, they just met in the aftermath of the Kamino Disaster. La Brava and Gentle are already True Companions but they never met Spinner and Compress in canon. La Brava noted after Compress joined them officially, he fit right in with them and Kaito. Hitoshi is honorary as he only committed one act of vigilantism during the Kamino Disaster but otherwise he still hung out and trained with them before Kamino when he never will canonically. Magne was just seen as a simple civilian and is good friends with Compress but only just recently met Spinner; providing them with shelter but no intention to join. On this last one, there was no canon evidence Compress and Magne knew each other before joining the LOV but there is also no evidence that they didn't either and Compress was enraged enough to actually try to kill Overhaul when Overhaul killed Magne, so it's understandable that it's a popular headcanon Compress and Magne are old friends.
• Adults Are Useless: Ren Amamiya is implied to believe this, a consequence of his shitty life since he screams at Aizawa for "not being like the other shitty adults" when the pro-hero genuinely tries to make amends and comfort him.
• Affectionate Gesture to the Head: Akira towards Midoriya. And everyone else wants one too.
  • And then Gang Orca asks to pet Joker's hair. He obliges, albeit reluctantly.
• Afraid of Needles: Akira, as a result of having his systems flooded with drugs during the interrogation.
• All for Nothing:
  • All For One regarding Joker. Not only had All For One vastly underestimated Joker and didn't really know where Joker's powers came from, but he never even saw his death coming. He wanted an arrest as his plans only have that as known canonically but alas death was never in the equation in his mind ,especially this early on until he was hit with Hamaon, an insta-kill spell, that he had no chance against. The very fact he just collected Ragdoll's quirk means nothing in the end as it returned to her after his death. All the plans he made to avoid the backlash in terms of loss disappeared as soon as Sraosha killed him and released every soul he kept in his body back to their owner or pass on to the afterlife meaning he can never ever get those quirks he stole ever again and could never pass All For One quirk on to his successor, a fact his lieutenants know as everything went down the drain with Joker destroying everything at that moment. His death was never supposed to happen yet Joker killed him anyways, ruining everything they worked for in one night. The League ended up with an even worse reputation as they became background noise again to the beat of Joker. Dabi, Toga, and even Tomura himself were increasingly aware that everything at Summer Camp and Kamino became meaningless, every plan All For One had, blew up in smokes. As opposed to canon where they became emboldened in the aftermath due to having their name out there with the arrest of AFO, here they're breaking apart because Joker has the nation’s attention again while they were left to disappear with nothing to show when Joker destroyed everything they did that night, showing just how fruitless AFO’s efforts were when Joker was that unpredictable. Toga and Shigaraki knew that their plan in thinking Joker would be bloated by fame - not knowing his powers came from the collective unconsciousness - and they would kill him and raise the name of the LOV from his death had been dead in the water the moment Joker crushed everything they worked for.
  • Nighteye's insistence to pass the OFA quirk to Mirio. Not only would Mirio refuse, only accepting because of his master, All Might already chose Midoriya as his successor and All Might making it clear it's his choice. The battle of OFA and AFO ended not with a wielder of the former but somebody else entirely killing AFO completely with his victims receiving their Quirks back upon his death.
• All-Loving Hero: Ren. While he is realistic and understanding of consequences that he will deal with on his own terms, Morgana remarked he’s too forgiving. He saw right through Giran, having suspicions since Giran is no Iwai. His empathy is probably his strongest weapon as he immediately sees the emotions emanating from their eyes and body language. He was willing to save Dabi during the raid where he was attempting to kill minors. Considering Akechi is not a good person where he dropped his facade by the next time Ren saw him, Ren forgave Akechi so it’ll make sense he’ll forgive Dabi and Toga when others who have been hurt by them won’t. Even when there is a Villain Program, victims won’t forgive and shouldn’t forgiven them for crimes that are truly unforgivable. He is completely understanding that there are crimes that shouldn’t be forgiven but he sees the pain and sees they need someone to talk.
• All Myths Are True: While the Persona-verse runs on this as part of the collective unconscious and SMT as a whole, the Quirkverse found their jaws dropped to the floor that these gods actually exist. Hitoshi even started to pray to them in response knowing they’re real. Hitoshi and Giran noted just how alive Joker's weapons are just by its divine nature. Spinner and Compress had mini existential crises about the gods appearing in the flesh. The Quirkverse after Kamino have an existential crisis after seeing so many gods and demons in the same place, particularly Satanael.
• Always Someone Better: Implied to be how Bakugo feels about Joker, given the former's insecurities about needing to be the best at everything. He had suspicions about Akira and was further shocked when his math homework was corrected by him.
• Ambiguous Situation: Giran’s fate was left ambiguous with the only hints are that he will disappear and didn’t seem to be in contact with the League in any capacity anymore after being scared straight by Joker.
• Amplifier Artifact: The Quirkverse ended up causing this for Ren and Morgana. While it made the Persona more Quirk-like, it caused spells to become more powerful. What once healed ailments aka curses and other spells like sleep turned into spells that could heal the most debilitating of injuries. This includes items from the other world from food to stealth tools. However, implied by the comments from Risumi, the caveat was that only those benefits from those items are made from the hands of the people of the other world. Still doable by the hands of this world but won’t have everything.
• And There Was Much Rejoicing: Those who know AFO and the terror he will cause should he live rejoices in his death. All Might made clear the villain deserved nothing not even a funeral. Aoyama was practically sparkling more than usual. The only concern that people even have about his death was that he was killed in the first place, not knowing that AFO's death is better in the long run and will save lives. All Might refused to let Joker's reputation take a hit because of that, defending him at every point and taking the blame for what was supposed to be his destiny, not a boy who had nothing to do with the duel between OFA and AFO.
• Animal Motifs: A blue butterfly for the Persona-verse characters. Many characters who witness the most mysterious powers from Joker see a blue butterfly.
• Anger Born of Worry: Aiba is constantly chewing out Akira whenever he does something reckless. She's absolutely pissed at him when he returns after being in a coma for three days following the raid.
• Arbitrary Skepticism: Shinsou, Aiba, and Gentle were disbelieving of other worlds being a possibility as well as Shinsou reacting to Hatsume Ichinose's quirk. Ren and Mona after processing it just shrugged it off as they've seen weirder things back home.
• Aroused by Their Voice: Ashido certainly felt this way about Ren’s voice. Before the wider public got a good look on Joker, his voice was all they have and most would thirst after the charismatic sexy voice.
• Ascended Extra: Gentle and La Brava. They were minor villains in the grand scheme of things and only appeared in the Breather Episode. Here, they are full-fledged members of Ren and Mona’s local branch of the Phantom Thieves of Hearts.
• A True Hero: Like in canon, a Central Theme and a point for Joker to make that anyone can be a hero regardless of license and to meaningfully help each other than rely on heroes primarily. The heroes certainly felt Joker did better than them at heroing. To Natsuo, Shouto, Hawks, the unseen, and many more, Joker is their hero. When the heroes got a hold of his brain scans where there are no quirk factor, those that don’t know he’s from another world sees that Akira was just so much of a Determinator he probably made a deal with some kind of magic to become Joker. Someone who will crush the system that feeds the strong and crush the weak.
• Aura Vision: Akira's Third Eye.

B-C

• Back from the Dead:
  • So far, Akira, has had to bring two people back from the grave: Native, who had actually died in his fight with Stain and a little girl that got stuck in her apartment during the fire that happens in chapter 44.
  • Joker was brought back after actually dying by Morgana in the Kamino aftermath.
• Barrier Change Boss: Ren is a rare non Video Game version of this during this fic version of The Joint Training Arc. During the first two rounds while fighting both Class 1A and 1B he chooses to not actively use his Personas in the confrontation, instead taking advantages of thier immunities and resistances as he switches between them each 5 minutes. This means that both Class 1A and 1B really have to think and strategize on the fly to deal with Ren, as he's constantly changing his inherent immunities and magical defenses and his already impressive physical attributes and his guile even when not using his Personas make him a One-Man Army. Notably, his defeat on both initial rounds come thanks to the combination of Shinso (who is Ren's best friend in the MHA world and knows him better than anyone else in this world) using out of the box tactic while working together with people Ren cannot effortlessly counter in Ochako and Bakugou.
• Batman Gambit: Essentially Akira's plan to bring down the Quirkless kidnapping ring; he uses himself as bait, wearing a tracker, and then has Aiba send out an email to the heroes with his location on it, telling them to haul ass there immediately. It works, albeit at a bit of a cost, since Akira has to relive the nightmare that was the interrogation room.
• Becoming the Mask: Ren takes the name Akira Kurusu in order to better adjust to the hero world, but after a while starts to think of it as his actual name, even referring to himself as Akira for a good while. After his death and revival in the aftermath of Kamino, Akira takes back and uses his original name, Ren.
• Beneath the Mask: Behind the mask of the overconfident Large Ham Phantom Thief Joker and the mask of a kind young man as Akira lies a very depressed Ren Amamiya who deeply misses his friends.
• Berserk Button: Harming children is this for Gang Orca. So when Joker informs him of a child prostitution ring, he is especially furious and jumps at the chance to take them down.
• Big Brother Instinct:
  • Inverted with Midoriya, since Akira is one year older, but it doesn't stop the hero-in-training from feeling protective towards the other teen for being potentially bullied over something out of his control.
  • The Velvet Room attendants are this for Ren/Joker, none being particularly pleased with how he was treated by some of the heroes during those first months in the MHA Universe. Elizabeth in particular borders on Knight Templar Big Sister, making it very clear that the only reason she does not kill Aizawa for what his quirk did Ren is because doing so would cause Ren more emotional pain. It's very strongly implied that Arisato Minato's death in Persona 3 has made her considerably overprotective of Ren as a result.
• Big Brother Mentor: Joker becomes this for Hitoshi, teaching him skills like lock-picking and tool crafting, and taking the time to train him daily. When Akira jokes about being an older brother to the Shinsou family, Hitoshi admits that it would be awesome.
  • He becomes one of these for all of Class 1-A, especially Midoriya. Kirishima even refers to him as "Aniki" (one of the ways to call someone "Big brother" in Japanese).
• Big Damn Heroes:
  • Akira shows up with Yatagarasu to save Hitoshi from some bullies, scaring them off without hurting anyone.
  • He also shows up on the scene of Stain's battle against Todoroki, Midoriya, and Iida. Naturally, Stain gets his ass handed to him.
• Big Damn Reunion: After over 90 chapters of being separated, the thieves are finally reunited in Chapter 95.
• Black-and-White Morality: Not the fic itself that showcases the Grey-and-Gray Morality My Hero Academia has in its future arcs, but the people living under the hero society propaganda. Even the Heroes fall victim to it as they tend to not tackle the systematic issues that lead to villains instead focusing on the immediate issues. This was showcased with people seeing the murder of All For One was bad even though his death is necessary better in the long run and it was All Might who made it clear to the public that All For One is too dangerous to let live. Yes, there will be bad people, yes, there can be reformed criminals with the rehab available, but the system that allowed the hero and villain archetype to run rampant to the point Necessarily Evil or morally gray actions are looked down upon is not tackled so the crime rate would actually fall instead of fear and the smarter criminals planning and flourishing by making use of this trait of the society.
• Blithe Spirit: Ren shook up the Quirkverse with his different views and his empathy. Many characters have never met someone like him before, someone who they can talk to with their issues with no judgement. Changing fates left, right, and center, many characters feel they owe him a debt they can never repay, allowing them new paths they never thought they would have through sheer empathy and Screw Destiny.
• Blow You Away: Morgana, as usual. Yatagarasu, too.
• Book Ends: The plot kicks off because, at the moment that Joker was going to summon Satanael, he hesitates for one second, which allows the false god to overwhelm them and scatter them across realities. In the final battle, Yaldabaoth hesitates for one second against Joker's might, which leads to his demise.
• Bread, Eggs, Breaded Eggs: In Chapter 45, this is Played for Drama when Eraserhead corners Joker alone.
  Eraserhead: Calm down. I'm not going to hurt you.
  Joker: Like you haven't already! So, what fun are we going to have tonight? Drugging? Beating? A drugged beating? Been there, done that—
• Break the Haughty: Joker does this a lot to the Heroes, Police, the LOV, and AFO especially the latter two when they think they triumphed over Joker. The heroes and police chased after him if only to pick up the shattered pieces of their pride that Joker is all too gleeful to kick them off their pedestal. A lot of people began to think for themselves and question authority, calling out the heroes whose reputation nosedived. The shiny image was long gone and all the heroes have left are broken pride; even after Kamino, people remember and criticize the heroes, police, and the Commission to this day. The heroes and police who want to help him were called out for their arrogance and forced to learn that Joker and Mona refused to be tied down by them when they don’t know them and just scratching the surface. AFO ended up dying with his Life's Work Ruined and the LOV is left with nothing to show after all the work they poured into to defeating Joker to get their name out there.
• Brick Joke:
  • After Joker merchandise starts getting released, Seth sees a statue of himself and bitterly notes that the statue doesn’t have the right number of horns. Later on, Bakugo happens to look at his own statue of Seth and again notes the number of horns is wrong.
  • Way back during the Summer Camp arc, Arsene promised he would one day punt Mineta. Satanael does so come Chapter 97.
  • When Joker is confronting Truth to get Yusuke and Makoto back, the god asks Joker to punch Philemon if he ever meets him. When Philemon visits Cafe Leblanc in the epilogue to personally congratulate Ren, Joker punches him as he agrees with Truth’s idea.
• Broad Strokes: Word of God admitted Hawks’ story isn’t exactly the same as canon. Admittedly, the canon President of the Hero Commission didn’t do a good job either and it’s unlikely she did anything to change the system.
• Broken Ace: Akira, despite the mask he puts on as both himself and Joker, still has severe trauma from his arrest, interrogation, and near-murder after Sae's Palace, and his guilt over his failure to stop Yaldabaoth from separating the Phantom Thieves. This comes to a head during a police raid, where the former nearly causes him to be afflicted by Midnight's Quirk. When the heroes discuss the raid later, Midnight and Hound Dog (the latter of whom has a degree in psychology) both note that he was clearly suffering from a panic attack, showing signs of PTSD and emotional trauma, and was dissociating. All Might also notes that he could clearly tell that Joker was afraid for his life.
• Broken Pedestal: After learning that her family fortune was built on lies, fraud, and ruthlessly driving competitors out of business, Momo takes the revelations about her parents extremely hard.
• But Now I Must Go: However heartbreaking it is for everyone, once Yaldabaoth is finally killed, the Phantom Thieves and their allies are returned to their home worlds, with no hope of ever seeing their new friends again. The only silver lining is them knowing this trope well in advance, ensuring plenty of time to say goodbye and exchange keepsakes.
• Bystander Syndrome: While Ren and Mona had dealt this back home, they were absolutely appalled how magnified it is in this world, what with people not helping each other meaningfully and relying on heroes to do the rescuing every time. They were shocked people stand around when people need help and heroes too if they apparently don’t have the right quirks. They were critical that nobody used basic self-defense with their quirks as if self-defense is illegal without a hero swooping in, something they took issue with because heroes can't be everywhere to save everyone and basic self-defense is better than dying by the hands of their assailant.
• Call-Back: Chapter 95 has several when Joker is retrieving his friends from the other worlds:
  • Remember Yoriuchi’s Naked First Impression to Ichigo? The same thing happened to poor Skull.
  • When Edward sees Mona talk for the first time, he instantly turns hostile thinking it’s another Nina incident.
• Calling the Old Man Out:
  • Natsuo calls out Endeavor twice. The first time was after the botched raid, which caused untold damage in the Musutafu Ward. The second time was when Endeavor shelters Momo at their house, as Natsuo is in utter disbelief that after all the years of abuse and neglect towards his own family, he decides to start acting like a decent human being.
  • When she learns of her parent's crimes, Yaoyorozu denounces them. When they try to argue that everything they did was to give her a better life, she rebukes them saying that she never wanted a life of luxury. She only wanted for them to be a family. Afterward, she vows to see them held accountable for their actions.
• Cassandra Truth: Hitoshi, La Brava, and Gentle Criminal first disbelieve Akira when he tries to admit he's Trapped in Another World, thinking he fell afoul from a memory-rewriting Quirk, and it takes Kaito's intervention for them to accept it.
• Casting a Shadow: As expected, Arsène has access to Curse skills such as Maeigaon.
• Chekhov's Gunman:
  • Early on, Ren, as Akira, saved Hitoshi from his bullies and one of them was a teen with a wolf quirk. He shows up in the Sapporo lab raid as he had been kidnapped in between the passage of time and was made to a Noumu.
• Chekhov's News: Articles that Ren saw in passing gave glimpses into a hero’s disappearance (later found at the Sapporo lab raid) and Gigantomachia.
• Chick Magnet: Minor example, but Akira is dashing enough to win over Ashido in his civilian identity and Toga in his Joker alter ego. Other characters, such as Uraraka (who met him as Akira) and Yaoyorozu (who met him as both Akira and Joker) comment on how charming and handsome he is.
• Clark Kenting: Joker goes around with a domino mask and nothing more to hide his face. Considering he doesn't have the excuse of only ever operating in the cognitive world this time, it's a little shocking no one recognizes him.
• Creepy Child: Alice, the Ultimate Persona of the Death Arcana.
• Creepy Stalker Van: Akira gets tossed into one that brought him to Sapporo.
• Cry into Chest: Momo breaks down in Todoroki's arms after she tells him about what happened with Joker and her parents and her feelings on the matter.
  • Akira has this reaction when he wakes up from his coma, with Risumi there to comfort him.
• Culture Clash: Due to coming from a normal world without magic or superpowers being known to the general public, Ren and Mona offered views not shared by most and shared them bluntly, throwing the world for a loop. Ren and Mona were completely understanding of criminals doing desperate things for survival and meaningful helping each other back home, but they were absolutely shocked minor criminal acts like purse snatching and illegal use of quirk are suddenly considered worst acts of evil with comic book super moves thrown in. Ren has to tell Hitoshi desperate people do bad things to survive. It was common sense Ren and Mona put together that All Might being a singular pillar was a bad idea. Ren and Mona are pretty happy to ripping apart the Quirkverse to people who known what they believe to be true and just with all the so-called right way. And the people can’t say anything worthwhile back when Joker and Mona ripped their worldview to pieces with Armor-Piercing Question and ruthless deconstruction of their logic.
• Cutting Off the Branches: Ren's story before Yaldabaoth split up the team and left him and Morgana stranded in the quirkverse follows that of the original Persona 5 game instead of Royal, which includes how Akechi is Killed Off for Real in Ren's original world.

D-E

• Dark and Troubled Past: Kaito. When his quirk first manifested, he ended up spending two decades in a hospital, losing out on a childhood. He lived through so many lives at this point, he lived like a hermit to avoid something like that ever again. It wasn't until he met Ren and Mona that new paths are truly open to him and just how he was living wasn't truly living. It's later revealed that his real name is Ito Kazuya and that his quirk made Kaito go through human experimentation by the hospital, so much that he came up with a plan to run away and then build an internet cafe to create his current identity.
• Dawn of an Era: Kamino as always. It was the beginning where the order of idolized untouchable Heroes faded into an era of non-complacency to the system and teamwork against corruption and evil. In the aftermath, Yagi and Aizawa said vigilantism and crime rates are rising. Teamwork was emphasized by 1-A who took that to heart due to Joker’s influence.
• Death by Adaptation: A temporary example. Native ends up dead by the time Joker gets to him, as opposed to the original where he was merely paralyzed for some time. Thankfully, Joker is able to bring him back.
• Death of a Child: During the Musutafu fires in Chapter 44; Dare, Joker goes into a burning apartment building to save a little girl that's still caught in the flames, only to find that she's dead. He brings her back with a Balm of Life, fortunately, but it's clear that he'll be haunted by this.
• Decapitated Army: All For One made all the plans but didn't anticipate his early death, and now his lieutenants have to pick up the slack as Shigaraki is incapable of doing so because he's been stagnating since Joker’s arrival. However, Joker with Sraosha ruined the All For One quirk by wiping it off the face of the earth and releasing all the quirks to their rightful owners and others passing on, meaning All For One's chosen successor won’t ever get it. The League is only held together by the chance to meet Joker, and even then, it’s deteriorating fast. His criminal empire is likely to fall apart as he’s Hated by All as the bogeyman. All Shigaraki, Gigantomachia, and Garaki have left is their vengeance against Joker while the remaining League members want to leave and at the least talk with Joker.
• Deconstruction Crossover:
  • Due to coming from a world dominated by normalcy, Ren and Morgana questioned just how quirks are so overestimated; they have nothing against quirks since from their perception they also have an imprint of souls, and they are willing to help people with mutant and so-called villainous quirks since it's an integral part of their identity just as much; to them, the League of Villains have simply quirks and wholly accept them without any question; Spinner felt he belonged somewhere when Joker was so willing to help him. They’re especially critical of the hero society and how heroes just dominated everything, to the point that people prefer to listen blindly to authority and just how complacent they are rather than help each other meaningfully, when they believe they should be allowed to question authority and make their own decisions. Coming from a world where there are no Symbols of Peace or the like, they were quick to notice the worrying detail that Japan is supported by one symbol who will pass on the history books and the mortality of the man in question. They were quick to pick up the corrupt system that is not truly just with the heroes being attack dogs at times and took it upon themselves to point out society’s ills with sheer spite and rebellion toward authority and oppressive institutions, forcing everyone to look at them with fresh eyes to systematic problems and allowing the heroes to redeem themselves, leading to them to even support Joker's rebellion to follow their moral convictions despite breaking the laws. All in all, Joker and Mona introduced rebellion and freedom in such an impactful way the League of Villains can’t due to their desire of just wanting to burn society down, instead of reforming it meaningfully.
  • From the get go, Ren and Morgana immediately picked up just how wrong they were treated initially after USJ, wondering why they are treated as subhuman without any Police Brutality. At first, Joker has no idea what they’re arresting him for and what crimes they were throwing onto him without treating him with any respect and being given no rights, picking up just how broken the system is when they treat their criminals as if they already planned to throw them in jail. Joker called them out on this later on, giving them the crushing realization the system they upheld can be just as corrupt in the event it's against someone who genuinely wanted to help. Joker made it clear that even the evilest of humankind should be treated with respect, and would be decidedly horrified about the way Tartarus treat their criminals. Mona doesn’t like it when he hears that the initial thing they would’ve done was throw Mustard into jail if it were not for the Vigilante Program. Even 1-A and 1-B started to realize just how unjust it is when they saw Gentle and La Brava arrested when those two just saved them. In canon, there are protections for involuntary criminals but none could be said about actual criminals. Joker and Mona picked up the demonization of criminals to the point of labeling Villains as if it's a comic book and doesn't like it one bit, setting to destroy what the world known the concept as Villains with spite because what the heck is this thinking even came from. Ren also loathed that those who think they want to help as infantilizing for him as if he isn't capable of making his own decisions so Ren made sure to rip into Aizawa and Tsukauchi, forcing them to see they can't infantilize anyone based on their self-righteous thinking and thus making sure to make it clear to other UA staff because Joker wouldn't like them treating him this way; what they can do is support him and make him don’t shoulder the burden alone because the other UA staff don’t know him and have bad assumptions about his character.
  • The mutant Fantastic Racism was still at play as many calling the Personas demons despite them saying they hate it explicitly. The police and heroes said this to Joker’s face as if they think they know better than him about his powers. Joker called them out on it, ripping apart they know nothing about him and his powers. It really took the heroes and the police to learn this after Kamino because it was clear they know nothing when Joker didn’t lie about his quirklessness at all and the true scope of their healing. After that, they shut up real quick about any theories when Joker repeatedly told them off and they didn’t listen to the one who knows the powers best in the first place. In equating him to his powers, there was the Unwanted False Faith and people thinking him as demonic at worst. Ren and Mona does not like equating people to their superpowers at all and judge people based on their actions instead hence their distrust of heroes for their actions mentioned above.
  • Heroes and police have the mentality they are always right and believe they know best. Joker tore into them, making them take accountability for their stupid actions that hurt people, people they take in without any rights because villains is all that was needed. He made it clear they are not always right and truly know nothing about him and his powers. He tore apart their Holier Than Thou attitude to shreds and won’t take it lying down just how they believe they are always right and know best for him when Ren sees nothing but stupidity and self-righteousness to an alarming degree that they only see him not as a person but as a charity case thinking they’ll do right by that instead of treating him with respect.
  • Ren and Mona noticed the heroes and police didn't tackle the quieter injustices of the world, focusing on the public crimes and that they have a serious problem with empathy outside of just putting guys away in public violent fights. Ren and Mona are by and far can be categorized as rescue heroes as they target the quieter injustices of the world and empathized with the outcasts of the world to lend them a new life.
  • On the other way around, Ren’s trauma from canon events has been shown to severely cause him PTSD. While having problems messed up by society/self is the true root of having the potential to summon Persona canonically, it still messes him up.
• Desperately Looking for a Purpose in Life: Out of all parties affected, the League of Villains is hit the most at some point. In the end, instead of them enacting change in society by crushing it completely, it’s Joker whose constructive chaos ultimately won and brought more change than anyone ever had due to Joker calling attention to the unseen, those who slipped through the cracks and those who turn to criminal life when society doesn’t offer any compassion to them. Nezu noted that Joker is absolutely determined to change society and will bring attention to issues with his actions, such as fighting for outcasts in a stagnating world, which is what Shigaraki wanted in his backstory. All For One is ultimately killed by Joker via Sraosha, and the League of Villains ended up flailing with no clear goal anymore except getting back at Joker, leaving them with no structure and scarily have more infighting; Toga mentions Dabi and Shigaraki always arguing now, causing untold doubt to run high compared to their canonical teamwork. Their name is nothing to the general public after All For One's death, as there is no mention of them anywhere without mockery. All Shigaraki has now is his obsession with Joker for destroying everything of the League. Toga is still around with them, but due to Joker's actions on the League and everything crashing around them, it made her question her choices.
  • It's implied some of the members who met Joker with the exception of Garaki are only sticking around so they can meet Joker again for their own reasons with Dabi indirectly admitting it.
• Didn't See That Coming: Despite being aware of the many quirks in his long years, All For One probably didn’t take into account that Joker would have an instant-kill attack in his arsenal.^note The only reason Die For Me didn’t work is because Alice wasn’t aiming to kill, but all bets were off with Sraosha when All For One wouldn't stay down. Everyone wasn’t expecting Joker having instant-kill spells, making him seem far more dangerous than anyone expected.
• Didn't Think This Through: When Kunikazu Hiroto killed Akira in the ICU, using Akira's reaction to paint Akira as a dangerous, unstable teenager to the public, he thought that he finally had things in the bag now that the teen vigilante is no longer in the picture to make the HSPC look bad anymore. Kunikazu completely forgot that the room Joker was hospitalized in had camera's up that captured his attempted murder and ranting that later led to Akira's death, Hawks then publicized the footage as revenge against his murder of Akira, leading to Kunikazu facing heavy public outrage and the Prime Minister of Japan being pissed to hell and back over what he did, promptly firing and had Kunikazu arrested.
• Do Not Taunt Cthulhu: Yaldabaoth learns the hard way by his defeat in the final battle that scattering the thieves into other worlds and plan to take over those very worlds to expand his reign is a bad idea when the gods in charge of those worlds such as Truth are all rightfully pissed at what Yaldabaoth's meddling had done to their worlds and that the false god isn't as powerful as he thought he was when the help of the four gods easily took away his ability to access other dimensions on top of Yaldabaoth underestimating the Phantom Thieves just because he already beat them once.
• Doorstopper: Excluding the side-stories, the main story has 100 chapters and over 840,000 words by the time of its completion.
• Drama-Preserving Handicap: As another side effect of the world cross, Mona is locked into his house cat form. Once Joker reawakens, he regains access to all three forms.
• Dramatic Irony: Joker's comments about him and Mona being gone and being remembered soon led to misunderstandings among the Heroes, leading to think the worst that he's terminally ill or similar. According to Word of God, Joker will not tell anyone outside of his inner circle that he and Mona came from another world and that it will be too late for anyone by the time he and Mona leave the world to return home.
• The Dreaded: The Reaper. He's treated as an Eldritch Abomination by Lavenza, its' sheer presence terrifies every student on both heroic classes and Ren does not hesitate for a single second in going all in against this thing.
• Dreaming of Things to Come: Bakugou is apparently dreaming of red skies and bones jutting up from the ground, AKA Yaldabaoth.
• Easily Forgiven: Played straight, subverted, and discussed. Kohryu actually forgives Aizawa for nearly killing him and Joker with his erasure Quirk, though in this case Aizawa didn't know what he did would result in the consequences it did. Because he is part of Akira, it means Akira on some level understands Aizawa deserves forgiveness, but his various complicated feelings require that he needs more time to do so openly.
• Enforced Cold War: Before Joker and Mona arrived, things were at a standstill between heroes and villains, each side aiming to scoop up people with strong quirks and having plans for society in mind. While Joker isn’t enough for the already unsustainable society due to All For One's instigation, he can make it a controlled descent by allowing people opportunities to resolve issues on their own, therefore making him a threat to All For One's plans while being a thorn on the side of the law. Joker is a Wild Card that each side wants for his incredible powers, but refuses to be tied down and effectively makes a mess on each side’s plans, up to killing the Big Bad and devolving the Hero Commission to take action. In the end, the cold war concludes with Joker’s destruction of both sides allowing a great change to take place as society's flaws finally become known.
• Epic Fail: Compress was sent to abduct Joker, but it didn't work out because he completely underestimated how his powers work. The fight ends with Compress being Thrown Across The Room.
• The Empath: Ren. He looks out for many characters—heroes, heroes-in-training, civilians, and villains alike. His ability to understand others is so great that even some dangerous villains crumble as he gives them unconditional kindness and a willingness to listen. In many ways, his empathy opens new paths to people; Hawks flat-out says that Joker's a friend one can trust everything to, while Momo comments that she can trust and talk something personal with him.
  • Class 1-A feels he's a big brother figure and look up to him as a pillar who encourages their growth in a way they never felt before. Even Midoriya and Kirishima question what Akira would do in this situation. Not even Aizawa and their families treated them like this.
  • Toga felt she was treated like a human being for the first time. This is exactly what gets her to feel a growing disparity between her and the League.
  • Yagi Toshinori felt he was a burden only to be treated so genuinely by Ren. Joker made him feel he can fight against destiny, particularly when Ren healed him of his injuries. Even from the radio interview, Joker said All Might must be a lonely man.
  • Kota found his boundaries respected by Akira and it was enough for Kota to admire him that even the Wild Wild Pussy Cats can see it.
  • Dabi was so deadset on his revenge yet Ren somehow was able to get through to him at some level; he was willing to listen why he wanted revenge and his willingness to kill his remaining family so Ren lend an open ear and point out the utter lifelessness of the end goal. The very fact that Dabi wants to meet Joker again implies that Ren’s empathy was enough to make him listen.
  • Spinner originally built his identity to his idols but Joker was kind enough to have him reconsider and build his own identity separate while still keeping the ideals he wanted from his hero.
  • Aiba was just too shocked that Ren was being so kind to her, after years of rejection from her peers.
  • Gentle was encouraged to be a vigilante after he told Akira and Mona his dream to be a hero only to lose it all. In a way, his name is known in history as he's one of Joker's teammates; his video on the Yaoyorozu family clinched him more views than any video he did before because not only is he known as Gentle Criminal nationwide, he's also known as Joker's teammate.
• Entertainingly Wrong: Based on what little knowledge they have about Joker (his skills, abnormally powerful "Quirk", and distrust of authority figures), UA staff assumes that he's an illegal experiment of All For One. Obviously, they have no way of knowing that he's from another world. The Kamino raid puts an end to that belief.
• Even Bad Men Love Their Mamas: Kunikazu Hiroto's only redeeming trait is his love for his mother. An investigation regarding the hospital Kaito was held captive in and experimented by the doctors on had the Thieves and heroes learn of Kunikazu having a mother in a critical state who is being hospitalized for decades and in the epilogue, Kunikazu had been shocked and also in joy to see his mother walking and alive to see him in Tartarus, hinting that his ultimate motive was to keep his comatosed mother safe.
• Everyone Has Standards:
  • Quirkless people tend to be neglected and ostracized by society, but it doesn't mean people are going to be okay with someone publicly assaulting a Quirkless person.
  • No one is happy with the Hero Commission's plan regarding Joker — which is to imprison him into security max cell and sedate him into a medically induced coma — as the vigilante obviously is a traumatized child. And Joker's only crimes up to that point have been merely vigilantism, breaking and entering, and resisting arrest. This makes Nezu's proposal to instead start a program to reform vigilantes into properly licensed heroes look significantly more reasonable by comparison.
  • Ryukyu is one of the heroes that is the most vehement about capturing Joker, only to regret it once she learns that he's only a teenager.
• Evil Power Vacuum: While in canon, AFO was arrested and later broke himself out of prison restoring himself and the Paranormal Liberation Front as the biggest bad on the scene, here, the League is a Paper Tiger, unable to achieve anything with all the doubt and infighting; the Shie Hassaikai are trying to raise up and will be defeated; and the Meta Liberation Army will be defeated by the Thieves and the lives Joker and his crew touched, refusing to let them use Joker's name to spread their wicked ideals. Nobody can be as uniquely dangerous as AFO so nobody can fill his spot.
• Exact Words:
  • Akira Kurusu, or rather, Amamiya Ren, is Quirkless, and that's not a lie. Yes, he has powers, but they come from the Sea of Souls. It isn't until they receive scans to show that Ren has no Quirk factor, cementing further to them that he really is from another world.
  • In Chapter 55, the night before 1-A's summer camp starts, he meets Midoriya on Dagobah beach, and the narrative says at the end of their interaction that it would be the last time that Midoriya ever met Akira Kurusu. When the two finally cross paths again, Joker has discarded that alias and resumed going by his real name, Ren Amamiya.

F-G

• Failed a Spot Check: The Heroes legitimately forgot Joker can just vanish and summon his Persona from existence. Not only did they expend many resources based on this, they ended up with a worse reputation after Joker played them with this tactic.
• Famed In-Story: Joker - while having pragmatic reasons, needing the collective unconscious for his powers - became the most impactful vigilante the Quirkverse has ever seen. He manages to eclipse Stain, the League of Villains, and even All For One. Ultimately, for better or worse, he becomes a 'symbol', specifically of freedom, standing alongside All Might the Symbol of Peace, and All For One the Symbol of Evil, who no longer lives. With his power backing him up, Joker makes his stance clear that he fights against the system itself that feeds the strong and crushes the weak, making him quite popular among the masses.
• Fanboy: Todoroki of all people is one for Joker, from the moment he takes down Silver Falcon. His brother Natsuo is a big one, too. Midoriya, too, to a lesser extent, although that's a given. According to Nejire, Tamaki Amajiki is a huge fan too. Aoyama was implied to be much happier when we see them by the time of the dorms and kept Joker merchandise in his room, and Monoma happens to be one as well.
• Fantastic Racism: Being Quirkless means spending a life being discriminated against as a second-class citizen. No one wanted to hire Joker when he introduced himself as such, UA students react to him as if he's heavily handicapped and Midoriya worries about him being outright assaulted. Joker is also asked to seek a missing Quirkless boy by said boy's sister, as the police don't bother with the case.
• Fatal Flaw: All For One's flaws - all his Seven Deadly Sins (his Envy and Greed for Joker's powers; his Pride and Gluttony for his stolen quirks and his plans; his Lust for power; and his Sloth in his inability to grow as a person), predictability, inability to not Kick the Dog - led to his downfall. Sraosha had enough and killed him. He never saw a Wild Card's unpredictability coming.
• Fate Worse than Death: The Hero Commission plans to put Joker in a medically induced coma while locked away within the maximum-security prison, Tartarus. Needless to say, most of the UA staff is appalled by this idea. Aizawa even calls it this trope word-for-word.
• Freudian Slip: Akira jokes about being Hitoshi's big brother. Hitoshi lets it slip that that would be awesome.
• Friend to All Children: Aizawa, much as he would likely deny it, is a teacher at his core, and it really shows best with his desire to reach out to the teenaged Joker. He even accepts Joker’s help in protecting the UA students at the summer camp, simply because no matter how much he doesn’t like it, he knows it’s the best way to keep his students safe. Aizawa even offers the thirteen-year-old villain Mustard a chance to stop, and resolved to get the boy some psychiatric help.
• Foregone Conclusion: Joker and Mona will leave for home with Lavenza in a nebulous time period after the Cultural Festival Arc, as confirmed by Word of God. The author confirmed that they will not cover the current events going from likely the Meta Liberation Army Arc onwards. The author also confirmed any new characters introduced, like Lady Nagant, will not appear as they don’t know enough about her to write her in.
• Foreshadowing:
  • In chapter 19, Arsene specifically states that killing “will never be their first option”. Later in the story, during Joker’s fight against All For One, it indeed becomes the last option when Srahosha takes over and uses an instant-kill move to truly defeat the ultimate evil, much to Joker’s dismay.
  • Seth once says that only a fight to the death would satisfy him. Tragically, he is the first Persona to officially “die”.
  • Through out the story. Joker comes close to near death at varying points. Joker's luck eventually ran out in the aftermath of the Kamino raid. Fortunately, Morgana used Samarecarm on him to bring him back.
  • When Joker has a chance to revive Native from death, he thinks to himself that the only other way he could possibly test his potential abilities would be to break into a morgue to test it. This ends up being exactly what Morgana has to do when Joker dies.
• Godzilla Threshold: During the Kamino Disaster, All For One getting back up again was the final straw for Sraosha. When he was finally summoned, he took it upon himself that All For One should never live one more minute and killed him with prayer magic, subsequently releasing all the quirks he accumulated over his lifetime.
• Golden Ending: With Joker and Mona's meddling, the Quirkverse has never seen brighter days before. The struggle between One For All and All For One ends with the latter's death and his stolen quirks returning to their rightful owners, with All Might now Quirkless again but fully healed from his past injury. The League of Villains, already weaker than canon thanks to Joker's existence giving them another path to follow, is completely destroyed, with Mr. Compress joining Joker's group, Gigantomachia and the doctor arrested, Toga and Twice making full Heel-Face Turns, Kurogiri being restored to his true self, and Dabi and Shigaraki slowly undergoing rehabilitation. Gentle Criminal fulfills his goal of immortalizing himself into history not as a small time villain, but as a vigilante and member of the Quirkverse Phantom Thieves of Hearts, among whom are also La Brava and Spinner. The Quirkless/Quirked relations begin to improve, and those who suffered quietly in the loop of Heroes versus Villains are finally seen with the stalemate resolved. The Meta Liberation Army has yet to come to pass, but with Joker's actions, it's unlikely that it ever will.
• Greater-Scope Villain: Yaldabaoth remains as the enemy Ren must confront after leaving the world of quirks. Ironically, due to the tyrant god sending Ren and Morgana there in the first place, it allowed them to kill the Big Bad over there. Akechi notes just how suspicious it is that Yaldabaoth sent them there in the first place, as if wanting Joker and Mona to get rid of the top powers there.

H-I

• Healing Magic Is the Hardest: Healing quirks are rare and highly sought after but they could only do so much. SMT/Persona Healing skills however can heal any injury in the Quirkverse, whereas those spells can't heal debilitating wounds back home. As a result, Joker and Mona are highly sought after for their healing powers alone because, from what everyone can see, the heroes who were healed experienced no side effects whatsoever, which is something the Thieves have no idea about and shrug off as something they can easily do in this world.
• Heel–Face Turn: Gentle Criminal becomes a vigilante and proper gentleman thief rather than a regular thief thanks to Akira and Arsène, especially Arsène reprimanding him for giving gentlemen thieves a bad name.
• Heroic BSoD:
  • Just like in canon, Bakugou after Kamino. The added tension that Joker sees him as the Tower Arcana doesn’t really help as the hero-in-training learns the meaning of the card Joker viewed him as representing.
  • Joker also goes through this after Kamino. For him, though, the trauma of Sraosha murdering All For One in direct defiance of Joker's orders and moral code fractures his very soul, and it takes two months of effort from his allies for him to recover from it.
• Hero of Another Story: All the other Phantom Thieves are stuck in other anime worlds, though we only get one and a quarter chapters for each until they reunite:
  • Chapter 7 shows that Makoto and Yusuke are in the world of Fullmetal Alchemist.
  • Chapter 18 shows that Futaba and Ryuji got sent to Bleach.
  • Chapter 32 shows that Ann and Haru are in Blue Exorcist.
• Heroic Neutral: Joker and Mona are only in it to help people because they won't be in this world for too long before returning home. Their only aims while trapped are to disrupt society and point out societal problems so that the people and government will be forced to look at them with fresh eyes. They have no horse in this race and looked at this new world with the perspective of their own world in mind, seeing striking similarities and outright History Repeats. Joker and Mona knew full well that the people here expect them to heal them or their loved ones, expecting to solve their problems as the people did in their world.
• Hero-Worshipper: Spinner becomes this to Joker, going as far as to dress like him and even adopting a stray cat whom he calls "Lady Stubbs."
• Hint Dropping: The only hint Joker gave to the world what his powers are is the Sea of Souls. While All For One caught on with the magic, he nor the League of Villains made no connection to the souls part to humanity. The heroes at Kamino explicitly heard Sraosha mention the Sea of Souls as well as Joker mentioning souls time again and again. The other hint was the heroes at Kamino hearing the word Persona. It took a while but Yagi realized souls are Joker’s forte.
• History Repeats: Ren was able to gain access to his Persona again after his revival via saving a victim from a powerful abusive perpetrator who would kill his new friends in the Quirkverse. The Deja Vu of Ren coming back as Joker in order to save Eri being similar to how it all started when Ren saved a woman from being harassed by Shido and then awakened his Persona to save Ryuji is not lost on Satanael when they finally return to him.
• Hoist by His Own Petard: All For One forcing Joker to fight his monsters in front of a live audience not only causes Joker’s persona powers to become even stronger through the belief of the masses, it also allows the heroes to track down his signal and come to Joker’s rescue. Joker even gets enough power to summon Satanael…though it doesn’t end up bringing down All For One. Instead, he is killed and his quirk is destroyed due to one of Joker’s instant-kill moves.
• Home Base: Kaito’s Internet cafe Raven’s Nest was the Thieves’ hideout for the first half of the story. Gentle and La Brava used to stay at Gentle’s apartment before moving into the cafe to stay closer to Joker. After Kamino, Magne’s bar served as a temporary hideout before going to UA.
• Hope Bringer: Joker. He even gave hope to All Might who sees him as his hope for recovery and defying fate. To the people especially the unseen, he’s akin to a savior. All For One being the Hope Crusher tried to destroy it, but Joker destroyed all of his hopes instead with the destruction of the All For One quirk and the release of his stolen quirks to their rightful owners and others passing on.
• Humble Pie: Endeavor gets a heavy serving of this when his attacks against Joker have no effect and he gets his clock cleaned.
• Hyper-Awareness: Joker. Paired with his empathy, he’s unmatched. Right from the start, he noticed All Might steaming unnaturally and was concerned since it doesn’t look right. He also taught Hitoshi to be aware of his surroundings.
• I Heard That:
  • In Chapter 44, when Joker leads his group to take care of the fires in Musutafu, Gentle and La Brava can't quite keep up with him and Morgana.
  Morgana: (chuckling) Their speed is impressive, but they have nothing on a Sukukaja.
  La Brava: Hey! We heard that!
  • Near the end of Chapter 46, when Gentle and La Brava record a video of them, Joker, and Mona before they start a heist, Joker and Mona start bantering, attacking each other's noses.
  La Brava: (to Gentle, whispering) Would it be funny if I got this on camera? We could have a bloopers reel.
  Mona: We heard that!
• I Know You Know I Know: It becomes part of the lead-up to the Summer Camp arc, as All For One deliberately leaked information on the attack to Joker via Giran, but Joker and his cohort also suspect that the Summer Camp attack is also a trap laid just for them, and thus are planning accordingly.
• Immune to Fate: People can manipulate a Wild Card as canon obviously detailed, but a Wild Card's immunity to fate will always prevail. No matter how much All For One tries to make it in his favor, a Wild Card has long since decided his fate and their enemies'.
• Impossible Thief: Joker and his cohorts stole the hearts of so many people by showing things beyond their point of view enough to change them for the better.
• In Spite of a Nail: Some things stay the same, just in different circumstances.
  • Toga still disguised herself as Camie to infiltrate the hero license exam. However, Toga infiltrates the exam location not for Izuku, but to get her own answers about Joker's actions.
  • Bakugou still failed the hero license exam. However, it's noted that he was close to passing, missing only 1 mark due to being provoked by Toga over what occured in Kamino.
• Instant Web Hit: Gentle’s video on the Yaoyorozu family, showing that not only does he know Joker, but also happens to be his teammate cemented his immortalizing into history as showing Joker being an incredibly impactful vigilante went viral after uploading. Hatsume's spirited support of Joker and calling out an unknown man became a viral hit. In an omake, Black Frost's stature of himself and Admiral Feesh trapping a pro hero also gained viral hit.
• Internal Reformist: Of sorts. Due to Joker opening their eyes, Nezu, Ryukyu, and Gang Orca planned to open a Vigilante Reform and Villain Program. While in canon they do have rehab for criminals, the system that made them villains are left in the dust until Joker brought attention to the unseen when society denied them. It helps that Joker is empathetic to dangerous criminals and said criminals breaking apart from his kindness because they were never given unconditional kindness in their lives. Ryoto is also making quick work with the Hero Commission, giving Hawks his freedom for starters and pushing for social reform due to Joker’s constructive chaos.
• I Owe You My Life: The Iida family and All Might felt they could never repay him for what he gave them. More and more characters started to feel this way when Joker's influence on them was undeniable to their Character Development and change in worldview/heart. The Wild Wild Pussy Cats, specifically Ragdoll and Pixie-Bob, own him just as much for giving them their quirks back.
• Irony: All For One died not just from an instant-kill Bless spell but from the last remaining sparks leftover of Humanity’s Hope, the very prayers fans and people all over Japan sent to Joker. All For One wanted to be a Demon King only to be met by Satanael, the actual Demon King, and was killed off by a god. The person who controlled Sraosha grows stronger based on his bonds with others meaning essentially All For One the Sociopath whose unable to form bonds only seeing Tomura and his brother as possessions was killed by someone who used The Power of Friendship to triumph.

• Jack Bauer Interrogation Technique: Once Joker finds out that Giran has been working for the League of Villains, he proceeds to have Seth and Cerberus rough him up quite a lot, and then have Pixie scare the crap out of him by threatening to basically nuke him out of existence with Megidolaon, or worse, just nuke parts of his body and have Joker continuously heal him in order to torture him.
• Jerkass: Kunikazu Hiroto, the President of the Hero Association, is a self-righteous jackass who is more concerned with capturing Joker to send a message than caring for the good the young man has actually done. He actively dismisses the testimony of the heroes pleading for him to be lenient with Joker, especially when they tell him he's being too aggressive about punishing a traumatized child, to the point where his plan for Joker is to lock him in a cell in Tartarus in a medically induced coma, something that horrifies everyone else. But considering he shares a first name with one Kunikazu Okumura, this isn't super surprising.
• The Juggernaut: As always, The Reaper. Nothing Class 1A or Class 1B threw at it slowed it down for a single second and it would have killed them all if not for Ren's Big Damn Heroes moment and later his own fight against The Reaper. The fact that it took Ren using his most powerful Persona to finally take it down made it clear that like always, The Reaper is on a whole other class.
• Kaiju: Kohryu, one of Joker's most powerful personas, and the ultimate of the Hierophant Arcana.
• Karmic Death: All For One. When he got up again, Joker refused to stand down and summoned Sraosha, who ultimately killed him. After all that work to defeat Joker and the implied canon plans still in place, he and his Quirk—both original and copy—felled forever by a Hamaon spell.
• Keeping the Handicap: When Bakugou asked Ectoplasm if he could ask Joker to heal his amputated legs when given the chance, Ectoplasm told him that he'd refuse because it would erase everything that he achieved and learnt from the incident that took his legs away.
• Kid Hero: Downplayed, but Joker is already a known vigilante despite being only sixteen.
• Killed Off for Real:
  • All For One with the major evidence being the aurora blaze.
  • Seth however this one is tenuous when Lavenza knows about it.
• Killing in Self-Defense: Invoked Trope by All Might when he announced in the interview with Taneo that Joker using Sraosha to kill All For One is a matter of self-defense by pointing out All For One's torture on Joker before All For One's death along with hearing Joker begging Sraosha not to kill All For One, and that Joker shouldn't be blamed for it, pointing out how sentient Joker's "quirks" are. Hearing All Might mention this is what led to Tokoyami supporting Joker post-Kamino raid as he understood how difficult it can be to control a sentient quirk.
• Large Ham: Joker enjoys his Phantom Thief role a little too much. Mona and La Brava bemoan at just how dramatic he is while his fans and the public eat it up. A side-effect is that the Heroes think his whole thing was for attention when really he's just a flamboyant Phantom Thief who is all too happy to play the role as the one who slip past the police just like Phantom Thieves in the novels.
• Laser-Guided Karma:
  • AFO was hit with this hard. His status as the Demon King is no more with his death by the hands of a god and Satanael’s appearance; his plans to undermine the hero society never came to fruition with Joker taking things in a constructive approach and destroying his plans; his quirk, the one he worked so hard on for over 200 years, was ultimately destroyed and his captives set free and passed on to the afterlife, therefore his successor will never receive it and the Nomus will not be made quicker; his death ultimately ruining all plans he made and destroying the LOV as Shigaraki still isn’t growing in the way he wanted as he hoped, leaving his lieutenants with nothing but revenge.
  • Kunikazu Hiroto, for both being a Jerkass and for his eventual In-Universe Moral Event Horizon of trying to hurt and kill a weakened Joker, he has his position and leadership of the Hero's Public Safety Commission head completely ripped off in the aftermath, with the public outright hating him when it got out that he tried to murder Joker, who had saved the world from All for One, just because he is petty enough to hate that a young vigilante does more than he did and is arrested for good.
• Lawful Stupid:
  • Iida, unsurprisingly, isn't fond of the vigilante Joker. During the fight versus Stain, he initially outright refuses Joker's help. After the four of them manage to defeat Stain, he attacks Joker in an attempt to bring him into custody, even though Joker pretty much saved their asses. However, he gets over it when Joker heals his brother, though it's only after talking with Tensei that he stops looking at things in black and white.
  • Ojiro is an even more straighter example of this compared to Iida who grew to be more receptive of Joker and his actions, as Ojiro personally disliked Joker due to not agreeing with his methods and vigilantism and instead see Joker as a villainous Unscrupulous Hero for it. Joker later attempts to deconstruct this mindset of Ojiro via a Wake-Up Call by asking Ojiro on what would he do in a hypothetical situation where none of the authorities are on his side and will not take justice for a friend who was horribly hurt by a monstrous individual, and whether or not Ojiro would take matters to his hands. Ojiro's lack of answer and Joker's response to it made Ojiro realize and see why Joker turn out the way he did if it means he could bring justice and help to those in need.
• Life's Work Ruined: Joker and Mona's dismantlement of the League of Villains. Due to All For One's single-minded effort to take Joker to steal his power, he sealed his fate as Sraosha murdered his soul and released the stolen quirks back to their rightful owners while others passed on, meaning Shigaraki will never receive the All For One Quirk as both the original and duplicate are connected through the sheer fact Search is with the original while it was the copy that was used to steal Search. Joker also took over what the League wanted to do including the Criminal Found Family factor that the League of Villain's would have in canon, meaning the League has no grounds to exist on, not when Shigaraki is stagnating with no goals. After the fall of the Shie Hassaki, the only member of the league who remains free is Garaki, who's captured much later to put a final end to the Nomus and the League.
• Living a Double Life: By day, Ren Amamiya goes by Akira Kurusu, the charming barista/waiter who makes the best curry and coffee combo at everyone's favorite cafe. By night, he's the vigilante Joker, protecting innocents, hunting down criminals, and utilizing his skills as a phantom thief.
• Living Clothes: A variation. Because the clothes the Phantom Thieves wore are them, Best Jeanist didn't quite know how to react when his fibers made contact with them. Instead, he hears Aria of the Soul, the Persona-world's supernatural signature song to the point Kaito hears it with his own quirk when he touched Akira. It was enough for Best Jeanist to realize that there is far much more to Joker as he remembers the ethereal song.
• Local Hangout: The Shinsous' cafe, the Blue Lotus. It did decently well before Akira arrived, given they have to pay off Silver Falcon monthly. When Akira introduced the Leblanc curry and coffee combo, the cafe exploded in popularity thanks to its supernaturally good curry and coffee. It became a place where many characters became regulars including Ochako who went there for breakfast every day; many regulars are extremely protective of their barista, Akira, so much they are willing to throw hands with police and a hero. After Kamino, the cafe became the Thieves' temporary hideout for the time being though Hitoshi have words of them using it when the cafe became a place of interest.
• Lonely Funeral: All Might was the one who made certain All For One was truly gone in cremation and buried with no name, burying the urn himself and not letting it rot in evidence as Kunikazu planned.

M-N

• Magic Versus Science: A conflict between the Persona world and the Quirkverse. Quirks have a science to them, even those that are Outside-Context Problem canonically with many calling Joker's feats impossible. The Quirkverse have no experience with magic of any kind. Officers react to Joker's items with fear. The Persona world enveloped themselves in magic and it does not help that the Quirkverse magnified the strength to the point of breaking the game. Lavenza joining soon would not help the already boggled minds.
• Magikarp Power: It turns out that Joker kept the very first Pixie he recruited into his mindscape, and turned her into a powerhouse in her own right.
• Mama Bear: Risumi, Hitoshi's mother, is a kindly woman who also takes no crap from anyone. A brief flashback shows that she received a scar from Silver Falcon while trying to defend her family and cafe, and she's enraged to find out what the police did to Akira in the past.
• The Man Behind the Man: It's all but outright spelled by a dying Yaldabaoth that Nyarlathotep has been the the False God's main benefactor and the reason why he's so much more powerful compared to his Canon version.
• Mass "Oh, Crap!": The faculty of UA freak out in Chapter 36 when Nezu reveals that Joker broke into the teacher's lounge during the Sports Festival.
  • Pretty much the whole country has one when Nezu publicly reveals that Joker is a minor.
• Memetic Mutation: In-Universe example. Joker, as Akira in the BNHA universe, created the "Hee-ho!" meme to be spread all over the Japan of the BNHA universe. Natsuo also notes that his video recording of telling Endeavor "Flameo, hotman" is also a meme.
• My God, What Have I Done?:
  • Aizawa knows something wrong happened when he erased Kohryu, which resulted in serious pain for him and a three-day coma for Joker. He finally learns what he did and what he almost did in Chapter 45, and he's shaken to his core at the realization that he almost killed a sixteen-year-old just by looking at him.
  • In Chapter 44, Ryukyu and some other heroes "defeat" Seth, but the resulting collateral damage and their overzealous hunt of Joker cause the local civilians to angrily protest against them, shaking her to the core. And that had been Seth's plan all along.
  • Ryukyu comes to regret this even more after learning that Joker is only sixteen and realizing that she causes all that damage over a teenage boy.
• My Greatest Failure:
  • Joker is struggling to come to terms with the fact he couldn't entirely neutralize Yaldabaoth, which lets the God of Control separate him from his friends and potentially killed the Phantom Thieves.
  • As UA mistakenly believes Joker is a former lab rat who managed to escape from All for One, All Might blames himself for not killing the evil mastermind and preventing him from ruining more lives.
• Mythology Gag: Lots of Persona references and even SMT references.
  • The Persona hot springs incident came back, but instead of the girls, it's male students of U.A, of whom the Thieves are trying to hide their presence from.
  • Spinner wounds up meeting a monk and a fox at a temple referencing Persona 3's Tower and Persona 4's Hermit links.
  • The reference of Reversed Tarot bonds referred to Persona 3 and 4 where it's possible for the Tarot to be reversed and even break. Joker noted that with Aizawa's Hierophant uprighting after being in reversed for so long.
  • Joker rescued a girl named Nanako, though the author confirmed that she's not a counterpart of Persona 4's Nanako. She even died briefly. Her mom was said to die in a car accident, not a hit-and-run, but car-related nonetheless.
• Narnia Time: Time flows differently for all the worlds. For example, when Joker and Mona goes to retrieve Skull and Oracle, it takes only an hour but for the MHA world it was two and half days.
• Nice Job Breaking It, Hero:
  • The Hero Commission announced a 25 million yen bounty on Joker for making them look bad. Unfortunately, the gambit blows up in their face and they lose more approval.
  • Aizawa erases Kohryu to try and stop Joker, unaware that doing so would do more harm than good since by erasing one of Joker's personas, he's also erasing part of Joker himself. As a result, Akira is found passed out in an alleyway and spends the next few days very ill and weak, while Kohryu nearly perishes, and spends a long while slumbering.
  • When Aizawa and Tsukauchi finally visit the cafe, Joker's cover is basically blown by Arsène completely losing his shit and attempting to manifest to attack them. It takes Akira's restraint and Kohryu holding him back to prevent this, and even then the furious intent and Akira's eyes glowing gold is what tips the pair off to him being Joker. Fortunately, they have no intention of telling anyone else, and instead, intend to tread carefully and gain Akira's trust.
• Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Yaldabaoth scatters the phantom thieves across worlds from the brief time he got strong as a god in hopes of crushing the thieves spirits and make them weaker. The thieves not only Came Back Strong by the time they are reunited whole, Yaldabaoth also pissed off the local gods that are in charge with ruling and ensuring balance is kept between the world they are in charge of such as Truth as his actions ruined the dimensional balance and would nearly destroy the worlds they rule in. When the final battle eventually comes, Yaldabaoth ends up Underestimating Badassery in regards to the Thieves. The gods, from Ryoto, Truth, the Spirit King and Satan himself help put a stop gap to the false god's growing powers by stealing away Yaldabaoth's control and access to see other dimensions and the Thieves and their allies in the new worlds all being far too strong for him and his army of Shadows to defeat, ending Yaldabaoth for good.
• No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Continuing Joker's streak of abysmal luck, after Yaldabaoth scatters the Thieves at the start of the story, he wakes up in the middle of a wide-scale battle at the USJ and tries to help as many people as he can. It doesn't go over well, since his outfit is rather suspicious, and results in many of the heroes mistaking him for a villain and attacking him, culminating in Snipe shooting him. Though he helps and heals enough people along the way that opinions on him are mixed from the beginning.
• No Hugging, No Kissing:
  • Downplayed Trope with the My Hero Academia cast. there are small hints that hint a subtext or two that never gets explored too far beyond hints to it such as Midoriya/Uraraka, Todoroki/Yaoyorozu and Ojiro/Hagakure. Additionally, it's also hinted that Ashido had a crush on Ren but the crush didn't go anywhere due to Ren eventually going back to his original world.
  • The Persona cast plays this straight. Ren has no hint of preferring anyone and neither do the other Phantom Thieves show themselves to be romantically inclined to someone. Justified Trope as the Thieves had serious things to worry about.
• Non-Action Guy: Kaito. Out of the quirkverse branch, he’s the only one who doesn’t fight and mainly provides shelter.
• Noodle Incident: In Chapter 55:
  Morgana: Haven't you learned by now that I'm always right?
  Akira: What about when you ate spoiled tuna—
  Morgana: I only did that once!!
  Akira: Oh, and how can we forget that one time in Leblanc—
  Morgana: Sh-Shush!! We do not speak of 'that time'!
• No-Sell:
  • Joker is sent flying into a tree by a lethal blow from the USJ Nomu, but as he has a Persona with Null Physical equipped, he walks away with only a crack in his mask.
  • Joker tanks one of Endeavor's supercharged flame blasts and, thanks to Cerberus, comes out unscathed.
  • Joker easily wins the fight with Stain due to Seth having Null Physical.
  • He also tanks a punch from All Might and comes out fine, thanks to a well-timed use of Physical Ointment.
  • During the Musutafu fires in chapter 44, Byakko's Drain Fire skill lets Akira pass through the flames unharmed, and seemingly pass the immunity on to the little girl he rescues. The fires were started by Dabi, whose Quirk can surpass 2000°C.
  • During their skirmish at the Yaoyorozu residence, Joker bypasses Compress's Quirk (which had just been used to capture Arsène) by switching to Seth, returning Arsène to the Wild Card's mindscape.
• Not in Kansas Anymore: Arsène makes this remark in Chapter 20 after a train ride, to Joker's bemused annoyance.
• "Not So Different" Remark: Ochako fears becoming this after Silver Falcon's crimes are exposed as she wants to become a hero to make money and support her parents. Midoriya reassures her that she is nothing like him.
• Not-So-Well-Intentioned Extremist: When Kunikazu learned of Hawks' betrayal with the Prime Minister later hot on his heels pissed at what Kunikazu did, he claims that he had to kill Joker to maintain order in society. Neither Hawks nor the Prime Minister buy it, with the Prime Minister stating it best.
  Prime Minister: No, you won’t. I gave you another chance when you botched that raid in Musutafu, the bounty, the instability that went rampant over my country! You made the heroes, and the Commission itself, look like a bunch of headless chickens! And for what? All of this because a teenage boy played you like a damned fiddle! A boy who is dead, and the public lays the blame on you. You’re finished.

O-R

• One-Steve Limit: Averted with Haru since she's currently trapped in Blue Exorcist's world, in which she met the Okumura twin brothers. One of the regulars of the Blue Lotus Cafe is also named Haru, which Akira somewhat bitterly lampshades.
• Original Character: The story is given multiple non-canon characters to flesh out the world that's going on outside of UA, such as Kaito, Shinsou's parents, and Silver Falcon.
• Our Souls Are Different: The Personas can sense souls imprinted to people's Quirks (which is canon as All For One explained that every quirk factor has an imprint of the owner’s consciousness); Quirkless people just have regular souls. Though this was showcased on My Hero Academia later on with One For All, this became important as they can sense the multiple souls in Yagi and Midoriya as well as the familiarity about the Todoroki flames, and All For One with the Personas calling his stolen Quirks a Sea of Souls, and Ren calling him the man who reaped souls; to Ren and his Personas, it’s horrifying to hear their cries of agony and their desperate wishes to be free, destroyed or anything to end their suffering. Then there is also the general feeling of Ren sensing a Confidant and later on the Arcana. Yagi and some others started to see that souls are part of Joker’s forte.
  • The destruction of All For One and his quirk causes the quirks he accumulated, those being fragments of people's souls, to return to their original hosts. Pixie-Bob even had a dream where her soul returned to her, for instance.
• Outside-Context Problem: For the Quirkverse, the powers of a Persona-user are incredible that have no backlash and/or side-effects of any kind which the Quirks in their world have. Healing quirks are rare and would only do so much while the Persona/SMT Healing skills could heal with no side-effects whatsoever.
• Overshadowed by Awesome: Joker's flashy display of his power ends up making the League of Villains barely a blip in the heroes' radar as the heroes are putting all their resources and manpower into capturing Joker. This annoys Tomura Shigaraki to no end. Eventually, Joker and his team overshadows the entirety of the League after the Kamino Disaster.
• Pals with Jesus: Shuichi is totally flabbergasted at how the others are nonchalant with how Akira casually hangs out with his Personas from time to time.
• Papa Wolf: Aizawa shows his usual hidden soft spot for kids around teenaged Akira; both the hero and Detective Tsukauchi are not happy with the HC's plans for Joker.
• Parental Abandonment: Akira outright states that his parents got rid of him the first chance they saw, and blames himself for being a burden.
• Parental Substitute: Kaito and Hitoshi's parents all act as substitutes for Akira, whose birth parents were less than good at raising a child and who no longer has his other substitute, Sojiro.
• Pet the Dog: Endeavor agrees to let Yaoyorozu stay at his house while her parents are being investigated, much to his children's shock.
• Phantom Thief: Joker and Mona of course. Add in Gentle Criminal, La Brava, Spinner, and Compress and you got the Quirkverse branch of the Phantom Thieves of Hearts.
• Point of Divergence: Joker's involvement in the main plot, as well as the aftereffects of his own plot, end up changing certain things, such as how he ends up healing Aizawa at the USJ, which prevents the Pro Hero from getting handicapped, being one of the bits to start off with. To note:
  • Stain’s rampage has far fewer victims due to Joker’s healing abilities, with Native coming out of it alive and Tensei not being crippled.
  • The League of Villains. In the original, they became a serious threat over the course of the series. In the fic, Joker's constant upstaging makes fools of them and puts them in their place, eventually leaving All For One dead and the League of Villains having infighting and doubts over their future.
  • All Might’s crippling injuries are healed, so while he doesn’t have his powers back, he’s no longer incapable of eating food and can have a normal life again.
    • As implied by Kurogiri and Garaki later on, the original canon plans were still in place: the original at Garaki's Jaku City lab, ready for Shigaraki's ascension; Gigantomachia's role as a bodyguard and aid for Shigaraki; All For One to be in Tartarus, ready to break out when the time is right. All of that vanished when Sraosha killed All For One and destroyed both the copy and the original at the same time as Garaki said that they're lucky to have quirks copied but running out of raw materials. Tomura will never receive the All For One quirk.
  • The Kamino Incident is far more tenser than canon. It ended up being called the Kamino Crisis/Disaster. In canon, the punch All Might gave to All For One knocked him out, here All For One gets back up, forcing everyone to fight tirelessly to and past their limits as All Might fought past his limits with that last punch.
  • Best Jeanist's injury from All For One at the Kamino Disaster that left him out of many arcs to recover. Joker healed him just fine, Best Jeanist just took a work leave out of guilt.
  • The recent mention of Oboro raised the question just how soon Aizawa and Mic learn Kurogiri is Oboro likely from Joker himself when the exposure to Joker means he can see souls and implied by comments from his Personae, vague memories.
  • Camie Utsushimi was still knocked out and replaced by Toga in the duration of the Hero License Exam. However, due to the growing uncertainty regarding the League, Toga chose this to gain answers about what she wanted to hear, with Dabi pointing out that she was doing it behind Shigaraki’s back. Either he’s in denial or trying to reason himself, Shigaraki thinks Toga was at the mission there even though Toga didn’t steal any blood, just a now nonfunctional communicator.
  • The author confirmed the Bakugou versus Midoriya battle that happened after the Hero License exam will still happen. Speaking of the exam, Bakugou still didn't pass but Todoroki did; in fact, Bakugou was one point away from passing. The exam was far more tense as while they still have to fight and rescue people, the area mimicked the Kamino Disaster with that intent.
  • In canon, Twice tried to recruit Chisaki. Actually after Kamino, Dabi and Twice began their recruiting in canon. Here they are unlikely to recruit anyone after the Kamino Disaster because Joker destroyed their reputation along with Sraosha ending All For One. Both Dabi and Twice didn’t bother to recruit anyone nor did any reports of Dabi killing potential recruits. The only one bothering is Kurogiri. At this point Hawks should be infiltrating the League but given everything that happened, he did not.
  • Instead of Izuku, Bakugou was the one who confronted Inasa over his Irrational Hatred at Todoroki and for nearly endangering Shindou over it. This caused Bakugou to gain more points than what he got in canon, only missing by 1 mark.
• Purgatory and Limbo: Some kind of purgatory/limbo exists for lost souls. Ren meets Akechi here during the short time he's dead.
• Rank Up: Tsukauchi was offered the commissioner role after Kamino. While in canon he remains a detective, Joker’s influence on the plot gave Tsukauchi a massive boost in approval among the police particularly when he’s in charge of the Joker case. The new president of the Hero Commission is Ryoto, a former handler of Hawks, promoted after Kunikazu's arrest and later taken in as Nezu's student.
• Rebellious Spirit: Joker and Mona. They are not bound to the laws of this world that they quickly deemed corrupt and not truly just, igniting rebellion and freedom nationwide, just like in their homeworld. It all escalates to him becoming a symbol to represent freedom in this world, a notion that Joker later hates as it's not his world and would rather have only the Symbol of Peace be remembered.
• Red Herring: Magne was mentioned at one point by Toga but it turned out Magne flat-out refused to join after Compress' meeting with AFO. The Hermit Arcana was thought to be La Brava but turned out to be Kaito.
• Refuge in Audacity: Half of the things Joker gets away with, he does solely because he can. One example is hosting a live interview while being wanted by the law, leading the police and heroes to a fake location, and glitter bombing the whole force. Complete with a literal plushie of a Red Herring and a note with a smiley face.
• The Resenter: In the battle with All For One, it's mentioned in the narration All For One was just a tad resentful that Joker's powers exceeded expectations and far surpassed his own Quirk, a quirk he build from the beginning of his life. He was fully aware this boy was from another world and yet this boy's powers are just too powerful, far more powerful than any Quirk, even his own, have any right to be.
• Right for the Wrong Reasons: Nezu's theory that Joker was an experiment for All For One along with other teens. While he's wrong in many aspects, he does manage to pinpoint the fact that Joker is a leader of teen rebels fighting something stronger than themselves, and who feels as though he has failed them.
• Right-Hand Cat: Lady Stubbs, a white-furred stray whom Spinner forcibly adopts. She's heavily implied to have some kind of Quirk with how intelligent she is.

• Secret-Keeper: The small list of people who know Joker's secret identity are Kaito, La Brava, and Gentle Criminal, and Hitoshi Shinsou. Aizawa and Tsukauchi (found out the first time they walked into the cafe where Joker worked), Nezu (who figured it out on his own and later approached Akira to talk to him personally, as well as Hawks, Gang Orca, and Ryukyu, who found out his identity through saving him from the facility holding Quirkless people prisoner.
  • The Phantom Thieves found out the only possible person for Dabi to be is Todoroki Touya. Dabi never knew that Joker deduced this based on Cerberus peering into the Todoroki's souls.
  • Izuku eventually figured Hitoshi was the one who sent them the code to rescue Bakugou, that he was part of Joker’s team.
• Secret Identity: Akira as Joker, obviously. There's also his secret identity as Ren Amamiya, the boy from another world.
• Secretly Selfish: Downplayed. Midoriya was secretly relieved that he didn't have to fight All For One in the end after all when someone else took the burden from him and the legacy. Yagi was also the same as he feels his successor can learn without the burden. It's heavily implied the Torch Bearers are also relieved that the legacy battle came to a brutal end, knowing the souls All For One stole are now free.
• Secret Secret-Keeper: And the folks who figured out Joker's identity but decided to keep quiet so far? None other than Shinsou's parents (who figured it out in the aftermath of the police raid and decided to stay quiet while hinting to Joker that they know) and Todoroki (who figures it out after Akira dubs him "Peppermint", the same nickname Joker had given him during the Stain battle). Unfortunately, All For One knows, as does the League of Villains. Bakugou and Midoriya later caught on due to knowing how well the curry cooking is and Todoroki's responses confirmed the suspicions.
  • With enough evidence, Todoroki and Recovery Girl learn Joker can bring back the dead. It was enough to frighten them to never say anything. After Joker was revived, only All Might, Nezu, Miruko, Hawks, Gang Orca, Ryukyu, Tsukauchi, Aizawa, and Ryoto knows about this. Iida Tenya was let in the secret by Todoroki which Bakugou overheard. The Thieves learned the revival spell from Mona and knows alongside the Shinsous and Kaito.
  • The truth that Joker came from another world. Only All For One, Nezu, and All Might albeit the last one didn’t quite believe it but not told anyone except Nighteye and Gran Torino know about it outside Gentle, Aiba, and Hitoshi who were told than having any inkling.
• Selective Obliviousness: Even though Ren and the Personas told people to their faces with the key term souls, Aizawa, Tsukauchi, and Nezu still thinks in that Entertainingly Wrong theories.
• Sensory Overload: What happened to Kaito and Nighteye when as much making contact with Joker, Mona, and whoever in Joker’s sphere of influence. As the physical embodiment of the Fool Arcana wherein it represents the infinite possibilities, the poor men wound up suffering an overload of memories or potential futures.
• Shout-Out: Kaito referenced Magic Kaito Kid.
• Significant Wardrobe Shift: Due to his Second Awakening, Joker's outfit now sports gold trims with a new mask to match Satanael.
• Slave to PR: Canonically, the heroes hold disdain to media despite it being the bridge to the general public who needs important information. It was through Joker they realize just how important it is beyond just mere PR damage control they’re used to when it’s clear Joker have allies in the media, writing important relevant articles.
• Sneeze Cut:
  • In Chapter 46, when Tsukauchi says aloud to nobody that they'll get Joker the help he needs, the scene cuts back to the Blue Lotus café, where Hitoshi remarks on how Joker should be sneezing more with how many people are talking about him.
  • In Chapter 85, after Midoriya eavesdrops on a conversation between Recovery Girl and her associate Zoey, he realizes that Ren had been telling the truth all along about being Quirkless. As that sinks in, the scene cuts to Ren sneezing, and Mona notes that it's the third time he's sneezed.
  • When Hitoshi notes in the epilogue that Joker would be proud, the final scene opens with Ren sneezing.
• Somebody Doesn't Love Raymond: Ren, as both Joker and his civilian self, is generally well-liked, but there are some who don't quite like him for varying reasons. However, because Ren never interacted with some of these characters who dislike him, this becomes a Subverted Trope. To note:
  • Among those in 1-A, the few who didn't like him are Ojiro and Mineta (Shoji has a neutral opinion of Joker due to being a minimalistic person himself). Ojiro dislikes Joker due to Ojiro being a honor bound individual and see Joker as a villainous Unscrupulous Hero for a long time due to Joker's reliance to trickery and pragmatism, seeing it as Joker willing to throw away his values to get what he wants. At least until Joker enforced a Wake-Up Call on Ojiro by having him answer and ask hypothetical questions on what would Ojiro do if he had been in Ren, Ann, and Ryuji's shoes if a Kamoshida-esque figure hurt someone close to him so irrepairably that said person tried to commit suicide over it. Mineta, on the other hand, dislikes Joker for his popularity. Since Ren never interacted with these two, he doesn't know about this and it took the joint training exercise for Ren to learn Ojiro's issues with him.
  • Ibara is the first 1-B student to declare her dislike for Ren. However, unlike Ojiro and Mineta from 1-A, this has less to do with Ibara disliking Ren's actions, but because Ibara is a devout Christian and finds Ren's choice of Personas such as Satanael (Whom she mistook as Lucifer) and Mother Harlot as offensive to her. It took Hitoshi calling her out and Gabriel appearing for Ibara to calm down and see Ren as an individual. Since Ren never interacted with much of 1-B, this is also a Subverted Trope example and Ren is only surprised when it happens.
  • Among the Pro-Heroes, Sir Nighteye is the one who looks at Joker less favorably than anyone else. Like With Ojiro, the fact that their personal philosophies contrast so much with each other makes it very difficult for them to cooperate and unlike with Ibara or Ojiro, Ren does return Sir Nighteye's disdain right back and had interacted with him in person. The fact that Sir Nighteye was willing to leave Eri in the hands to Overhaul and later implied that Ren didn't care what would happen to Risumi and Ayumu really didn't do him any favor in Ren's eyes. Basically, while Sir Nigtheye considers Ren a untrustworthy Wild Card (No pun intended) and an Outside-Context Problem that he doesn't know what to do about, Ren sees Sir Nighteye as the worst example of a Lawful Stupid Pro-Hero. Even with Margaret's own guidance and advice when she divined his tarot to be a Reversed wheel of Fortune, Ren and Sir Nighteye don't exactly see each other eye to eye due to their previous interactions.
• So Proud of You: In Chapter 35, Endeavor informs Fuyumi that he is actually proud of his kids for doing what they believe is right and just (starting the petition demanding that Joker's bounty be rescinded), even if he doesn't agree with what they did, much to her shock.
• Spanner in the Works: Joker to the League of Villains and especially All For One. The latter got killed off and the souls he has been keeping for over 200 years were set free back to their original owners or passed on. Not only do the League no longer have an abundant amount of Quirks they need to make the Nomus as All For One is vital to the production thereof, but now their work is cut out for them as they would have to perform surgery to make even one Nomu, and redo the human trafficking which Joker put a dent into, now knowing that the heroes are looking closely into it to prevent something like this from happening ever again. Giran's no longer with the League; while they do have other connections, Giran was an important source for even All For One. Not only that, Joker stole the members' hearts from under Tomura's grasp as they floundered what they even want anymore with the League. Worst of all, Tomura is the Death Arcana that Alice sensed the connection, meaning so many things for the future of the League as a whole.
  • Thanks to Joker's presence as a vigilante in their system, the Hero Commission has not only been rebuked by most of Japan for its unethical approach to vigilantism in general, but even its former president is now behind bars for assaulting a weakened Joker.
• Spared by the Adaptation: Magne survived because she didn't make contact with All For One or join the League of Villains. In fact, she gave shelter to the Phantom Thieves. With that in mind, Pro Hero Snatch will survive as well. Honestly, given the changes Joker and Mona made including destroying the LOV, many lives will be spared. Much more so because Joker and Mona can revive the dead.
• Speaks Fluent Animal: Turns out Morgana, despite his insistence on not being a cat, can actually communicate with cats, as proven by how he can talk to Spinner's cat, Lady Stubbs.
• Speak Ill of the Dead: Many badmouthed AFO after his death, some outright celebrating. Compress made it clear just how malevolent AFO is and is glad he’s dead in the grand scheme of things. Dabi always insulted AFO to Shiggy’s face.
• The Spook: Joker and Mona. Nobody outside of their inner circle knows where they came from with all the spectacular power. Even Dabi have no idea how Joker managed to figure out his identity. For all the work the LOV poured into, they still don't know anything about Joker's powers, making Joker's allies' jobs easier to power him up and ultimately destroying the LOV. Even when everyone found out his identity, they still see Joker as a mystery. The heroes who met him declare him a mystery despite his otherwise good nature.
• Spot the Thread: The first person to figure out that Joker is likely from another world, when provided just enough evidence to come to that conclusion... Is All For One. He figures this out once he is presented proper evidence that Joker uses Wrong Context Magic, figures out that the fact that Joker came out of nowhere means he couldn't just be from the world they know, once he rules out time travel as a logical possibility, he realizes that all the stuff about demons and gods surrounding Joker, including Joker's mention of Yaldabaoth to Shigaraki, means he is very likely not from the Quirkverse.
• The Stations of the Canon: It still follows My Hero Academia's arcs, but the changes Joker and Mona made were so butterflied that the chances of My Hero Academia's future arcs past the Kamino Raid are dubious, given the League's defunct nature with AFO's early death at Kamino. There are stark differences in how the League became well-known and True Companions while in here, Joker made them look like fools for dealing with him without any reputation, and some of the members are considering leaving altogether for a new life that Joker helped create after forcing the changes in society, allowing for new changes to happen.
• Stepford Smiler: Ren, both as Akira and as Joker. As Akira, he constantly wears a smile to hide the discontent, frustration, and sorrow he's locked away because of his situation. As Joker, he makes frequent snarky remarks and wisecracks to hide his constant fear and paranoia.
• Supreme Chef: Akira is limited to coffee and curry, but everyone who has tasted it calls his cooking nothing short of divine.
  • He can make other things too, like tea and baked goods.
• Tap on the Head: Akira and Aizawa's conversation after the Musutafu fires ends abruptly with Morgana applying this through Miracle Punch.
• Tarot Motifs: Downplayed compared to the Persona games but still present which were intentional as Ren intentionally did not think of these bonds he made in this world despite the bonds making it clear what they are to him until he accepted the bonds. Todoroki expressed interest in the Tarot after encountering Seth and being called one of the Arcana, remembering what Bakugou and Momo were called, trying to understand what connects the Tarot to Joker. Todoroki and eventually all of 1-A found the representative card Joker sees them as described them to frightening levels of accuracy; Midoriya, Iida, and Ochako reacted in awe when they got the confirmation Joker sees Hitoshi as the Moon, seeing how it made sense. The author confirmed the existence of the Apostle, Aeon, Faith, Councillor, and Hope Confidants.
  • After he awakens from the slumber he fell into after getting Erased, Kohryu notes that Aizawa is a holder of the Hierophant Arcana.
  • Hitoshi is heavily implied to be a holder of the Moon Arcana, while Momo seems to hold the Empress Arcana.
  • Similarly we have Aiba, who is the Lover (originally believed to be the Hermit but instead it's Kaito whose the Hermit), and Nezu, who is implied to be Devil, Midoriya is the Chariot, Tobita is Temperance, Bakugo is the Tower (to the shock of Akira). The rest have yet to be confirmed such as Tsukauchi.
  • Fittingly, Shigaraki is Reversed Death.
  • And just as fittingly, All For One is Hunger.
  • Tokoyami speculated All Might might be the Judgement, Iida Tenya the Emperor, and Kirishima the Sun.
  • Hawks is the Star while Todoroki Shouto is the Hanged Man.
  • Hitoshi's parents, Risumi and Ayumu, are the Strength Arcana.
  • Himiko Toga is the Hope Arcana.
  • Gang Orca and Ryukyu are the Councillor Arcana.
  • Miruko is the High Priestess.
  • Spinner is the Apostle and Mr. Compress is the Faith.
• Tarot Troubles: Averted. Tokoyami made it clear to the rest of 1-A that the Tower and Death are misunderstood and mean something more than what it looks. He also have to tell them about the reversed card meanings.
• Team Dad: Arsène finds himself propelled as such among Joker's personas. When the question of Team Mom comes up (as in, which of the female Personas gets to be his "wife"), he immediately shuts down the topic, not wanting to deal with it.
• Tears of Joy: As Yagi is now healthy and hale for the first time in his life since the injury due to Salvation, he cried these when he tasted his first homecooked meal in a long time.
• They're Called "Personal Issues" for a Reason: Nezu and Aizawa's insistence on involving themselves in Joker's affairs seems to only push the teen further away since their attempts to help can occasionally do more harm than good.
• Thou Shalt Not Kill: As usual, Joker and his crew adhere to this rule. Which is why Joker is horrified when Sraosha takes it upon himself to kill All For One. While this is later used in his trial by the Association as proof that he is too dangerous to keep out of Tartarus, he is largely defended by the heroes, especially All Might, who believes that All For One was far, far too dangerous to continue to let live.
• Took a Level in Badass: Gentle’s quirk evolved during Summer Camp, protecting the kids who cheered him on. When Shinsou told Spinner this, he was shocked. Hitoshi, when trained by Joker, learn how to make things, use weapons like guns properly, learn hand-in-hand combat, and learn how to hack from La Brava’s teachings.
• Took a Level in Kindness: Happens to Endeavor much earlier than it did in canon thanks to being humbled by Joker. This is shown most prominently when he lets Yaoyorozu stay at his home while her parents are being investigated.
• Too Injured to Save: The doctors have no idea what is the true cause of Akira's condition because there is no quirk can heal a fractured soul or a soul in general. It looks like a fatal hemorrhage of the brain when in fact it's the fracturing of the soul.
• Tranquil Fury: When a reporter makes the suggestion that Momo might be expelled from UA due to her parents' actions, Nezu quickly shuts them down and defends Momo as an exceptional student who should not be blamed for the sins of her family. He says all of this with a barely restrained fury, clearly angered by the mere suggestion.
• Trapped in Another World: The main conflict of Joker's story.
• Trauma Button: Aizawa is one for Akira, (as are most heroes by association, though not to the same extent), given what happened when the hero erased Kohryu and almost shattered Joker's soul. When they come face to face in their hero alter egos, Joker panics and runs away in fear, and is terrified of Eraser so much as touching him. He also starts yelling at Aizawa to "give them back" after the Pro Hero uses his Quirk on him again.
  • Also, police officers tend to press this button for Akira too, for obvious reasons.
• Trauma Conga Line: Aside from having to deal with all the shit he did in the original series (arrested for trying to save a woman, thrown into the life of a persona user, specifically one of the Fool Arcana, forced to kill parts of himself to become stronger, and beaten and drugged by the police before an attempted assassination by a thought-to-be friend) he's also forced to deal with the Survivor's Guilt of being separated from his friends, thrust into an unfamiliar world, treated like trash for being Quirkless, ambushed by heroes, and nearly killed on accident by Aizawa.
  • And somehow, it gets worse: Joker allows himself to be kidnapped in order to take down a quirkless human trafficking ring, and he’s beaten and drugged, giving him flashbacks of the interrogation room. Then he gets kidnapped again, this time by the League of Villains, and his persona winds up killing All For One, and the fight ends with Joker critically injured.
• Traumatic Superpower Awakening: In order to restore Ren to Joker again, he must reclaim his true name and regain his Will of Rebellion. That latter of which would be harder since they are in a different world that plays by different rules but regardless knowing how awakenings work in the game, those watching would be terrified. He finally reawakens when trying to protect Eri from Overhaul.
  • On a lesser scale as the author confirmed nobody in the Quirkverse will be getting a Persona, Momo and Hawks calling out their parents and the president respectively and shouting their resolve mimicked the game’s awakenings.
• Troll: Wouldn't be Joker otherwise. Nezu too (examples include naming the Red Herring fish plushie Admiral Feesh, staring Aizawa right in the eye as he signs the petition to pardon Joker, and informing his staff about Joker's break-in during the Sports Festival weeks after it he figured it out).
• True Companions: The Quirkverse branch of the Phantom Thieves of Hearts. Manami made sure to tell Compress that they work as a team. All of them called Joker by his first name and Leader. They're on First-Name Basis always, showing just how close they are.

U-V

• Underestimating Badassery:
  • Not even All For One can account for Satanael, the barrage of spells he never witnessed Joker performing, and Sraosha, including the instant-kill spell that ultimately felled him. He planned so hard to study Joker and how he would react so they won't suffer the backlash the heroes are suffering from, only for that to come to naught anyway when the League hadn't even seen the full extent of Joker's abilities, the rest of them blowing everyone's minds including theirs. He still planned to take their powers without understanding the source despite knowing Joker came from another world, invoking Joker to go ham on him including releasing a summon he never even saw before that ultimately killed him.
  • The LOV found they messed with the wrong group as they never saw Hitoshi coming to swoop in and release their shoddy hacker work to the heroes and the police. He was the one who gave Joker access to the collective unconsciousness, making Joker more powerful. In the end, the LOV was left with AFO dead and their plan dead in the water.
  • In the final battle, Yaldabaoth already gathered an army of Shadows of his own to be deployed to the other worlds he has access to, feeling sure that he is close to victory and could beat the Phantom Thieves again when given the chance (and under the belief that Ren was really dead for good, instead of being revived and awakened again). Yaldabaoth was instantly proven wrong when the Phantom Thieves are not only stronger than before and had gathered their own allies from the worlds they are thrown into to help, Yaldabaoth also pissed off the gods that are actually in charge of those worlds that he had thrown the thieves into, add that with the Velvet Room attendants all gathered in one place to deal with him, Yaldabaoth ends up completely losing when his army of Shadows are soundly defeated and his ability to access other dimensions taken away by the gods he offended and angered for daring to try and take over the worlds they are in charge of.
• Ungrateful Bastard: Iida initially plays this straight when he attacks Joker despite the vigilante having saved them, but later subverts this as he's grateful when Joker heals his brother.
• Unwanted False Faith: After everything at Kamino, some people got it in their heads that Joker is some kind of mythological being posing as a human. Amusingly, because of this, AFO can't regain his status as the Demon King thanks to Satanael appearing, and now never will with Joker's Sraosha sealing his fate. It doesn't help that there are now rumors explaining that Joker died and came back to life, much like a messiah. Even before Kamino, people have debated whether or not Joker is human based on the fact he can control various beings with a mysterious, unimaginable power.
• Vehicular Kidnapping: Akira gets kidnapped via this method by Giran and his goons, although it was all part of the plan.
• Vigilante Man: With Joker and Mona’s influence, less people are turning to the League and more towards vigilantism. With ripping Stain’s views to shreds in live radio, Joker’s vigilantism and his explicit saying anyone can be a hero without a license and meaningful helping each other galvanize many to take up this route.
• Villainous Crush: Toga's desire to see Joker covered in blood transforms into full-blown infatuation once he distracts her in the Yaoyorozu manor with a ballroom dance.
• Villain Takes an Interest: All For One is quite captivated with Joker and his feats and wishes to capture him and either force him into the League or take his powers. This gets AFO killed.

W-Z

• Wake-Up Call: Invoked and enforced by Ren to Ojiro. Ren asked Ojiro to answer what would Ojiro do in a hypothetical situation where not a single one of the authorities are on his side to bring a Kamoshida-esque figure to justice and said figure hurt someone close to him irrepairably that they tried to commit suicide over it. The answer and realization that Ren had gone through such an event forces Ojiro awake that Ren is far more alike to him than he initially assumed and how rules and values won't always mean anything in real life.
• Weather Dissonance: After Aizawa erased Kohryu, he accidentally created a typhoon that lasted a week that made nobody happy in the transition of spring to summer. It's implied that Kohryu would've made a small storm had he not been erased because the point was he's the distraction as he would disappear as soon as Joker's safe. The erasure caused the small storm turned into a week-long typhoon as implied later on with Seth creating a mini rainfall that didn't last long after he disappeared from his fight.
• What If?: There is one official What If? story where Joker alone is sent to the NieR: Automata universe instead of being sent to the My Hero Academia world with Morgana.
• What the Hell, Hero?:
  • Morgana gives a brutal one to Eraserhead for participating in the raid to arrest Joker instead of helping him.
  • The general public and many Pro-Heroes denounced the Hero Commission for trying to arrest a young vigilante in a failed raid instead of the bona fide villains plotting to destroy society.
  • Akechi in limbo gives Joker one of these for prioritizing helping the innocent people of a world he doesn't belong to over getting home and stopping Yaldabaoth.
  • Bakugou, thanks to his own Character Development and the butterfly effect of Joker's influence to the world at large, calls out Inasa for endangering and nearly killing Shindou due to his Irrational Hatred at Todoroki over their Forgotten First Meeting during the License exam.
    Bakugou: Icy Hot isn’t Endeavor, dumbass. Even Endeavor wouldn’t be this stupid. I was at Kamino. I witnessed what a real villain would do in a moment of weakness. You would have blood on your hands. (Points towards Shindou) Could you look his family in the eye and explain why he died because of your ego? If you ask me, it’s you who shouldn’t be a hero!
  • Ibara is on the receiving end of this from Hitoshi due to her irrational action of mistreating Ren due to seeing Ren's choice of Personas, namely Satanael and Mother Harlot, as everything that goes against what she devoutly followed as a Christian and ignore everything that Ren has done to help people before over her bias as a Christian.
• What You Are in the Dark: Ojiro gets a subdued one when he failed to answer Ren's hypothetical question to if he had been in Ren, Ann and Ryuji's shoes when Kamoshida sexually assaulted Shiho. His lack of answer when Ren asked what he would do and the realization that Ren had gone through such an event snapped him awake and finally see Ren as a person as he laments his inability to actually do a thing in such a situation had it happened to him in reality that he apologized to Hagakure over it after all is said and done.
• Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Ren has an understandable phobia of cops due to what the police force has put him through. For similar reasons, he also has an intense fear of needles.
• Wham Line: Until Chapter 40, one would have thought that the events of Persona 5 that happened in this story were non-canon to the continuity imposed by Persona 3 and Persona 4 until...
  Shiva: [To Arsène] "Your lingering concern lies with the Master Of Strings?"
  "Orpheus ignored them. Everything was becoming too much, reminding him of when he was first bonded to his Wild Card, and how the other personas interacted with each other. He missed them."
• "Where Are They Now?" Epilogue: The final chapter is dedicated to showing how the BNHA world is doing now:
  • Joker's old allies are now in operation as the new Phantom Thieves of the Quirkverse, helping out those dealing with injustice. They send Eri gifts from time to time.
  • Izuku is slowly working on mastering One For All.
  • The Todoroki family is slowly working on reconnecting with Touya.
  • Taneo has published a book about Joker.
  • Ryoto brings back Kunikazu's mother to have a talk with him, receiving closure.
  • Kurogiri was healed back into his original form and name, Shirakumo Oboro.
  • Kazuya reunited with his family.
  • Momo has been visiting her mother, although her father has refused to speak with her. Her mother is very proud of her daughter.
  • Shigaraki and Jin are now in a rehabilitation program, and they're both making good process. Himiko had become the representative after graduating it, and has recently welcome Touya in, giving her hope that they all have a chance.
  • Magne and Atsuhiro rekindled their relationship.
  • As for the Shinsou family, Blue Lotus had renovated and they've welcome two new additions: a pair of twin girls named Akira and Ren.
• Wide-Eyed Idealist: Izuku, the heroes-in-training (with the exception of Shouto), the Heroes, and the police have so much trust in their system that Joker and Mona had to repeatedly rip the veil that their system is broken and corrupt that is not truly just as they would've like to think it is. Shouto, since Joker's reveal of Silver Falcon's crimes, became more rebellious and outspoken about the system when he, Midoriya, and Iida were being punished for illegal quirk usage as they were trying to not die. As a result, these people started to realize just how wrong they are and about the system they believe to be true and just. Aizawa and Tsukauchi eventually came to the realization the way they treated Joker as a villain immediately despite his students’ testimonies and how they didn’t treat Joker as a human being including adopting out Mona without his input was wrong; they said they wanna help but the way they went about it in their initial meeting was so wrong that no wonder Joker didn’t trust them. Heroes and police who want to help didn’t notice the sheer disconnect on the way they said it and their actions in which they are enacting harm as if thinking they are the miraculous healer in their arrogance. Joker and Mona called them out on it. Soon afterwards, even Aizawa and Ms. Joke recognized the system was shit and broken; if these two said it, then many heroes and even the police have to have the same feelings. The heroes-in-training started to reexamine the laws, particularly when it applies to someone they cared about who don't give a damn about the laws.
• Wild Card: To the heroes, they don’t know what to make of Joker, especially when he didn’t take credit for bringing down human trafficking rings. As the physical embodiment of the Fool Arcana, the endless possibilities he gave to those he interacted with in his sphere of influence was immensely overpowering opening new paths they never thought they will have through sheer empathy and the inherent Screw Destiny as All Might and All For One can attest they never saw their recovery and death coming respectively.
  • The LOV tried to understand Joker’s everything, failing to take into account the teammates and allies Joker have. Morgana, Hitoshi, and T-san were wild cards they never took into consideration, leading to their ruin. They just don’t know how far Joker’s network reached and just how far these people will go for Joker. They really didn’t know just what they were messing with, ultimately leading to Joker and his team winning the war the LOV lost.
• Willfully Weak: Being the All-Loving Hero Big Brother Mentor he is, all throughout the story Ren is drastically holding back when facing his enemies due to his personal Thou Shall Not Kill mentality when dealing with humans (he refuses to even cross the line against All For One or Overhaul). It's only against The Reaper where we get to see Ren go all out without any kind of hesitation or mercy and it's made abundantly clear to every member of Class 1A and 1B that the Ren they where fighting before was handling all of them with the utmost gentle kid-gloves in comparison to how he fought The Reaper.
• Wise Beyond Their Years: Joker recognized the structural and political problems of the hero society's Status Quo Is God and sought to change it. He was in particular not amused by Aizawa and Tsukauchi's attempts of calling him out when he sees the problems this society is causing to create villains and the heroes' insistence of a Black-and-White Morality and not thinking of change beyond keeping their heads down. Just immediate consequences but not tackling the real problems of why these problems came to be. The Heroes may dislike the Hero Commission but they haven't taken steps against them at all until Joker forced them to learn. Mona called Aizawa out on not going against the government when it's clear the government is not making any changes beneficial to society. He made it clear he wanted to be treated as an equal which Aizawa still in his Problem Child thinking failed to realize as even Tsukauchi noticed that it's best for Joker to make a move first rather than them forcing a move.
  • He was also not pleased with how the Pussy Cats treat Kota. He made it clear that the boy wasn’t to be pitied by his guardians when he had been through too much. It was enough for Mandalay to think it over and haunt her for the years to come.
• The Worf Effect: Endeavor gets a large serving of humble pie when his Quirk and strength prove useless against one teen vigilante. His entire experience during the Hosu incident actually triggers his canonical change of heart earlier.
• Worf Had the Flu: When Joker returns to the Velvet Room, Igor admits he and Lavenza couldn't get to him sooner as they were still weakened by Yaldabaoth's meddling.
• Wrong Assumption: A number of adults wanting to help Joker think he's lost or misguided when, while Ren is a little lost, he is in no way misguided. Rather, he's trying to tear apart the system established by the law and the heroes to expose its flaws in order to change society, and assists those who can't receive the needed help. Eventually, with all sorts of evidence and testimonies, they come to admit that while he still has a desire to help people, he just doesn't know who to trust in the law. More than that, however, he's really looking for a way to return to his world.
• Wrong Context Magic: Everything related to Personas in the world of Quirks. Not only do they have multiple powers and overwhelming strength that no Quirk can ever compete against, even All For One's multiple quirks can't possibly fight against on an equal standing, to the point that he's no match against gods who have powers that can instantly kill. Online, people freaked out over seeing Joker's Personas obliterate a mountain and a swathe of forestry as well as cause the fast decay of All For One's body. What they don't know is that the Personas just happen to be amplified due to their world having a stronger belief of seeing the impossible possible, so while the Personas are powerful in their homeworld, the world of quirks amplified their original power. In the end, it's the very function of magic that the Quirk world has no experience with as their Quirks have science to their biology.
  • Police analysts are also creeped out by Joker's items when he and Morgana brought them over.
  • Todoroki eventually called what Joker did magic spells. Even Iida took what he said in stride because magic can only explain what Joker can do. All For One eventually took a gander that it could be magic yet still he wanted it anyway without understanding anything.
  • Compress figured that Joker's so-called 'quirk' is unlike anything else or any Quirk can actually do. He noted it runs far deeper and flows stronger than any blood Quirk would do than any mortal flesh ever could.
• Worthy Opponent:
  • Downplayed example with Nezu towards Joker. Nezu was intrigued by Joker from the start and has been amused and delighted by his various feats. Though this is probably partially his educator's mindset reacting to seeing the young man apply his talents so effectively.
  • Compress starts feeling this way towards Joker after their fight at the Yaoyorozu residence.
• Would Hurt a Child: Very prevalent with Dabi setting a house on fire while a little girl is still in it. Also, the HC dismisses Aizawa when he tries to tell them Joker is still a teenager, and their plans to put him in a medically induced coma is unethical in every sense of the term. Though the President points out that they don't know Joker's real age, it's implied that they don't care much either way.
• Wouldn't Hurt a Child: On the opposite side of the spectrum, once everyone finds out that Joker actually is still a teen, plenty of heroes back off of him out of principle. Ryukyu even feels bad enough to formally apologize.
• Young and in Charge: Joker is sixteen and he's leading a group of adults: La Brava is 22; Gentle and Compress are in their thirties; and Spinner is 21. The honorary member is Hitoshi and treated as the baby of the group even moreso than Joker.
• You Remind Me of X:
  • Joker immediately attaches himself to Manami Aiba since her circumstances are almost identical to Futaba's.
  • Midoriya feels rather protective towards Akira Kurusu as the Quirkless older teen reminds him of his past self.
  • Uraraka gets a free breakfast at Blue Lotus because Akira saw she had the same mannerisms as Yusuke.
  • Akira outright screams at Eraserhead for behaving like Sojiro when the young man suffers a panic attack.
  • Yaoyorozu's dilemma with her family heavily reminds Akira of Haru.
  • When Nezu goes to the cafe to talk to Akira personally, he informs the young man of his past as a lab animal. It doesn't take long for Akira to realize that Nezu reminds him of himself.

  • Touya Todoroki is a very painful reminder for Joker of Goro Akechi, their friend-turned-traitor. Both Akechi and Touya are consumed by a desire for revenge against their father, and have descended into madness because of it. Joker even almost calls Touya by Akechi’s name before correcting himself.
  • On the other side, Aizawa mused with a memory to Oboro about Akira.
