The Black Organization serves as the main antagonist in the series. It is a secret syndicate that commits a number of crimes for various reasons which range from blackmail to robberies to assassinations.

Mandatory naming note: All of the codenames are related to alcoholic beverages.

Animal Motifs: The Organization is associated with crows. In hindsight, the crow motif was probably foreshadowing the boss's identity.
Dark Is Evil: All of them wear black clothing and (sans the NOCs) are the ruthless, amoral antagonists of the series.
The Dreaded: Everyone aware of them is afraid confronting them, and Conan gets paranoid of black coats in general, and for a good reason. Not only it could spell death or worse to the entire cast if either Conan or Ai somehow catch their attention, they are way more competent than a Villain of the Week and aren't above mass murder just to get away from the police. Not to mention how little is generally known about them.
Edible Theme Naming: Invoked. Their codenames are all names of various types of alcohol.
Immortality Seeker: It's implied that the Black Organization's research, specifically that which Ai was involved with, was centered around a way to become immortal.
Invincible Villain: Played with for The Black Organization when it comes to its name as the dwelling of evil. Overtime, it becomes more and more apparent that many of its members are either runaways, newly dead characters, or spies trying to destroy the B.O. from within. Gin, Vermouth and possibly Chianti, have been the only B.O. members to keep up their evil aura going on, and even then, they are having problems of their own with Gin showing signs of becoming overpowered, and Vermouth showing a soft spot for Ran and Shinichi/Conan. However, most if not all of the cases involving the Black Organisation are often just foiling/surviving their attack and while they get away with it and going back to square one. Even having at least three international law enforcement agencies on their case doesn't even remotely faze them.
- Gin gets progressively more evil and intelligent the longer the series goes on. His fellow associates (Vodka, Vermouth, Chianti, Korn) count as well considering we are still no closer to catching them or even knowing about them from their debut.
- Rum takes it a step further by having the combined traits of his subordinates in his Internal Reveal, all the while being effortlessly close to Kogoro with no one suspecting him.
Only Known by Their Nickname: Most of its members are only known by their aliases.
Professional Killer: Ai mentions that they fund themselves by doing assassinations.
There's No Kill like Overkill: Ai mentions they have no problem killing people that find them and all of their friends and family to stay hidden. One time they blew up part of an entire building just to keep a possible leak from occurring.
Undying Loyalty: Despite being composed of the most dangerous and amoral characters in the series the members are shown as dedicated to the organization's prosperity as a whole and at least embrace each other as comrades. Vermouth not having this for other members of the group is one reason she is hated by them.
You Have Failed Me: Despite the Undying Loyalty mentioned above the Organization will kill anyone who doesn't follow the rules, regardless of how much personal merit that member may have. Vermouth is the one exception to this rule and even she can't get away with outright defying their boss.

The leader of the Black Organization.

Arch-Enemy: Despite the two never actually confronting each other in person, Shinichi is directly opposed to Ano Kata. His goal of taking down the Black Organization is equal to that of getting his normal body back.
Big Bad: He's the one running the Organization and supposed to be the Moriarty to Shinichi's Holmes.
Crazy-Prepared: According to Vermouth.
The Dog Was the Mastermind: What little we do know about him is that he apparently is one of the characters whose full names have been revealed in the story. Cue Paranoia Fuel and Wild Mass Guessing as to his identity.
Foil: To Shinichi. While the story follows Shinichi's point of view primarily and only shifts away to other characters on special occasion, Ano Kata has so far never been seen. Shinichi's reputation as a detective got him into the public eye quite a bit, but Ano Kata is so secretive we have never caught a glimpse of him yet, and for about a thousand chapters his name was kept secret. Ano Kata also makes use of extremely loyal subordinates who would sooner die or kill whichever one of them they'd deem detrimental to their cause all in his name; while Shinichi is largely dependent on his own deductive reasoning when it comes to solving cases and overcoming adversity, he also has connections with the FBI and has allies by his side who are more friends than subordinates. Even better, the Undying Loyalty the Organization gives Ano Kata can be seen as a dark reflection of Ran's devotion and trust in Shinichi.
Greater-Scope Villain: He is indirectly responsible for Shinichi's whole situation, essentially kicking off the whole story. His experiments with the Apotoxin forced Shinichi to change his name to Conan, move in with the Mouri family, get in contacts with the FBI, and plunge himself into various life-threatening scenarios all for the sole purpose of getting his body back to normal.
He Who Must Not Be Seen: He's never been seen on screen. Even with the reveal of his name, Renya Karasuma, we've only seen him in silhouette.
Meaningful Name: "Karasuma" is written with the characters for "Crow Circle", signifying his status as the leader of the inner circle of a group associatd with crows. Karasuma is also the name of a street in Kyoto, labelling him as a member of the kuge class^note, which is really the only background you COULD give a man who inherited an entre manor made of solid gold.
The Reveal: After literally more than twenty real-time years and about a thousand chapters into the story, we finally get a lead on the identity of just who Ano Kata is: the presumably long dead Renya Karasuma, mentioned all the way back in the Sunset Manor case in vol 30 / season 9.
Shadow Archetype: To Shinichi. Despite being on opposing sides, what we can extrapolate of the Boss makes clear that he and Shinichi likely function in similar roles, increasingly so as Shinichi adapts to covert operations. Like Shinichi, Karasuma Renya is presumably living under an assumed name and indirectly maneuvering his associates from the shadows, and while we the audience see things from Shinichi's perspective, to the rest of the world (and to the Black Org) Shinichi is just as much a case of The Dog Was the Mastermind. Like the Boss (presumably), Shinichi is the opponent coordinating and masterminding many of his side's actions and strategies, but while a few are aware of his importance, and even fewer recognize him as a king moving his chess pieces on the board, his enemies have little to no idea someone like him exists, and even Shinichi's associates are often in the dark on what role they're playing in his schemes—all of which is presumably similar to how the Boss himself operates.
Suspect Is Hatless: The only clue of Ano Kata's true identity, that Aoyama left to readers, was that they were one of the numerous characters whose full names have been revealed throughout the story. A thousand chapters in, the closest lead we have is the supposedly dead Renya Karasuma, who had been mentioned all the way back in chapter 299 - 302 (vol 30) in the Sunset Manor case.
Unseen Evil: So far has never been physically glimpsed at in any way and is referred to only in pronouns. Yet he is the primary antagonist of the series, essentially playing the role as Moriarty.

Second-in-Command

Rum (SPOILER WARNING!)

Rum (alias Kanenori Wakita)

The second-in-command of the Black Organization, rumoured to have many faces and names. In File 1066, it is revealed that Kanenori Wakita, an gauze-wearing sushi chef at Beika Iroha Sushi is the real Rum, wearing a false mustache, wig and buck-teeth to get closer to Kogoro.

The Apprentice: Fancies himself as Kogoro's number two apprentice, with Amuro as number one and introduces himself as such to Yamato and Yui, much to the former's chagrin.
Amuro: I'm Mouri-sensei's number one apprentice, Tooru Amuro!
Wakita: And I'm the number two apprentice, Kanenori Wakita!
Asian Buck Teeth: Has some pretty ugly ones as false teeth.
Bald of Evil: In some of his descriptions he is described as completely bald, which is proven in his true appearance. As Wakita he wears a black wig.
Badass Armfold: In his debut chapter, he's doing that for most of the time.
Berserk Button: Insulting or badmouthing Kogoro in any way. Wakita will completely snap at anyone who does so. Rum's impatience helps sell the act convincingly.
Catchphrase: Rum tends to use the phrase 'Time is money' in correspondence with his fellow Organization members. He notably uses this phrase in a message urging Bourbon to hurry and gather information on Shinichi Kudo.
Chekhov's Gunman: The old man from Camel's flashback is revealed to be Rum, having innocuously walked by to search for intruders, forcing Camel to warn him away and ruining an operation to capture Gin. File 1066 tells us that he sent Korn a picture afterwards cancelling the appointment between Rye and Gin and ordering him to shoot him and Camel on-sight.
Cigar Chomper: The ending of File 1104 shows him — as himself, without his Wakita disguise — emerging from a thick cloud of smoke, grinning maliciously around a well-smoked cigar.
The Drifter: Wakita mentions that he never stays in one place for very long. This is so he can be anywhere the Organization needs him to be at any given time, then disappear just as quickly without attracting scrutiny.
Early-Bird Cameo: He has a voice-only introduction in Movie 20, though he could've easily been using a voice changer. His first real appearance is chronologically earlier, during a flashback to Akai's loyalty test in File 607 as an old man.
Early Installment Character-Design Difference: Looks substantially different in File 607 than he does today, with or without disguise, though Magic Plastic Surgery could be the reason for this.
Embarrassing Nickname: More specifically, embarrassing alias as discussed by Vodka, who regards the alias he took (a rearrangement of his Catchphrase) as a "silly name", something which apparently piques the suspicions of Conan and Akai. The only person reliably able to connect Vodka's statement with Rum's identity would be Amuro, since he has a message from Rum with that exact catchphrase.
Establishing Character Moment: In his first appearance as Rum proper, he playfully reminisces to Gin about how he exposed Shuichi Akai as an FBI agent by posing as a civilian old man, hinting that he knows of Bourbon's treachery and is hatching a plan to eliminate him before donning a false mustache and buck-teeth to pose as Wakita. It is thus shown that Rum is adept at working in the field, shrewd enough to judge and reveal the identities of not one but two spies in the Black Organization and disguise himself to look completely docile and innocent. In conclusion, the BO's Number Two is more intelligent than Gin, a Master of Disguise like Vermouth and is posing as a man close to Conan and company with barely any suspicions; i.e. a very dangerous foe.
Eye Scream: He claims that he's got an injury in his left eye, thus he is not allowed to wield a knife until it is healed. His true appearance reveals that he actually has a false eye.
Expy: His design is a homage to one-eyed boxing coach Danpei Tange from Tomorrow's Joe. As Rum, Gosho also says that he was inspired by Colonel Sebastian Moran from the Sherlock Holmes novel series.
The Faceless: As with any mystery suspect in Conan, Rum is nothing more a black silhouette for most of the Rum Arc. His last scene as a silhouette is in the back of a car speaking to Gin on the phone until the scene cuts back from Shinichi's house to show Wakita putting on his disguise.
Fan Boy: Of Kogoro, and gets very angry at anybody insults or demeans the man in any way. This is just a convenient excuse to get close to Kogoro and investigate him, and there doesn't seem to be any proof that Wakita's devotion to Kogoro is sincere as Rum.
Foreshadowing: Plenty of early clues hint at Wakita's true identity of Rum, along with Kuroda and Wakasa who are Red Herrings.
- In his first appearance (File 975), Wakita says the regular waiter he replaced had an unfortunate accident, likely arranged by the Organization.
- Again in his first appearance, suspect of the week Tsunetaka Harashima wants to go home and watch Kamen Yaiba◊ because the evil organization's second-in-command◊ is making an appearance.
- Unlike Kuroda and Wakasa, Wakita's injuries are on the left eye instead of the right eye.
- Despite saying that it will heal in his debut, Wakita is still wearing gauze over his eye in the Nagano Snowy Mountains case, claiming that he rubbed his eye too much for it to heal. File 1066 reveals that this is to hide his prosthetic left eye which would have been a dead giveaway.
Gonk: His buckteeth, little mustache and his eyepatch don't make him look attractive. The fact that those just form his disguise doesn't change anything, since his real appearance only looks slightly less ugly.
Good Hair, Evil Hair: This trope doesn't come into play until Wakita is revealed as Rum, in which case his toothbrush mustache resembles Hitler's. The evil part is a given as the second in command of a criminal organization.
High-Class Glass: Every appearance he's made in flashbacks to 17 years ago has shown him sporting a monocle with a fancy linked chain, alongside a trilby and a snazzy suit with a fur collar. Apparently being this high in the Black Organization pays pretty well.
Light Is Not Good: Dresses in white chef's attire as Wakita and is very nice to Kogoro and company even if his fanboy tendencies go a bit far at times. Completely flipped on its head when he is revealed to be Rum and going after Kogoro and Bourbon (since he suspects the latter's duplicity).
Number Two: Supposed to be this in the Organization, apparently in a higher rank than even Vermouth or Gin.
Punny Name: His name is an anagram of Rum's Catchphrase "Toki wa kane nari", revealed to be an alias since Wakita truly is Rum.
Red Right Hand: Rum's is a glass eye he conceals behind medical gauze as Wakita. When not wearing his disguise, it appears as a featureless white orb in his left eye socket.
Secret Identity: Rum is infamous for intentionally falsifying his personal details, appearances and traits even among Organization members. Until his true identity was revealed, it was only known that he is probably a man, lacks an eye and uses a cane. Several suspects are floated around during the Rum Arc:
Significant Anagram: His name can be seen as a rearrangement of the quote "Toki wa kane nari" ("Time is money"), a message that Rum has sent to Bourbon at the end of File 1008. As of File 1066, it turns out that this is no coincidence.
A Tragedy of Impulsiveness: Bourbon has told Conan that Rum is known for his exceeding impatience, and that (if actually involved) it contributed to the botched way the murders of Kohji Haneda and Amanda Hughes were carried out. Said flashback arc shows he left both Kohji and Amanda to die after poisoning them without staying to ensure their deaths, allowing for both to leave a Dying Clue to connect their murders to the Black Organization and hide Asaka from him.
Treachery Is a Special Kind of Evil: Wakita gets pretty creepy when on the topic of being deceived or hoodwinked. In File 1027, he compares traitors to cheating fish-sellers. This turns from disturbing to outright terrifying once Wakita turns out to be Rum, since this means he knows Amuro fed him false information about Shinichi's death and isn't happy about it. Worse, it is hinted that he knows Amuro is a PSB mole.
Wakita: (to Amuro) I'd be able to tell who the traitor is, who's trying to pull one over on me... like if a trader tries to fob me off with some old fish at a high price...
Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Subverted. The old man who Camel scares away unwittingly outs "Dai Moroboshi" as an FBI spy but later is confirmed to have intentionally done so.

General Oversight

Gin

Gin (alias Jin Kurosawa)

One of the Black Organization's most dangerous operatives (arguably the most dangerous of those that have been introduced), and the one who is unknowingly responsible for Shin'ichi's current "vertically challenged" condition.

Dub Name Change: Melkior (Manga only. Later reverted back to Gin).

Adaptational Dye-Job:
- In the anime, Gin's hair was light-brown at first, then blond, then finally changed to match the silver hair he has in the manga.
- Blue eyes in the manga, green in the anime.
Art Evolution: Gin's design has drastically been changed throughout the anime. At first, his hair is actually light brown, and the line structure is not as detailed. In addition, part of his hair comes down his face across his nose. As the series progresses Gin's hair is blond, and the line structure is strongly detailed. Moreover, there is no hair that comes down across his face anymore. Gin's hair color changes once again in Opening 24 where it is then silver to match his manga depiction.
Asskicking Leads to Leadership: Gin is the most dangerous agent of the Organization we have seen so far and also appears to be one of the highest-ranked, as most other members are shown to defer to him and he can threaten even Vermouth without repercussions.
Awesomeness by Analysis: Gin is quite perceptive and amazing at deduction, being able to spot traps and discrepancies others fail to. If it wasn't for Gin's inability to recall the faces and names of his victims or his tendency to think rationally, Shinichi/Conan would've been found out sooner.
Badass Bookworm: Not only is Gin scarily intelligent, he also appears to be physically tough (i.e., he was able to flee with internal injuries bad enough to cause him to bleed from the mouth when Akai put two rifle rounds in his ballistic vest).
Badass Longcoat: Pretty much his iconic outfit.
Bad Boss: Gin does not hesitate to tell his subordinates which of them he doesn't like, to the point of pulling guns on them if they say things that don't sit right with him. In the Action Prologue of Movie 26, he shoots through Kir to hit a target, and while she lies on the ground cluching her wound, all he does is coldly tell her not to hesitate next time.
Bad Guys Do the Dirty Work: Pisco knew of Haibara's true identity and there was no way the story could continue for Haibara if Pisco was still alive. But the heroes didn't even need to do anything about that as Gin suddenly killed Pisco for screwing up an assassination.
But for Me, It Was Tuesday: Makes a point of not remembering the faces of the people he kills. This occasionally becomes a handicap, such as when he doesn't remember Shinichi Kudo.
Cool Car: Drives a black vintage Porsche 356A.
Death Glare: In episode 176 (Reunion with the Black Organization, Part 1), a driver attempted to call him out for jaywalking. It only took a brief moment of eye contact to end the argument before it even started.
The Dragon: Gin is Anokata's most loyal and sharpest member.
The Dreaded: Even the normally stoic Ai is downright terrified of him.
Eyes Never Lie: Shinichi only had to look into his eyes to realize he was a cold-blooded killer.
Good Eyes, Evil Eyes: Gin's eyes are narrow and often at least partially obscured by his black hat or his long hair. What's more, he has unique pupils: Most characters have either large, detailed anime pupils or just black dots, while Gin's pupils are small, devoid of highlights and drawn with an intermittent outline, giving him a very unnerving glare.
Good Scars, Evil Scars: Received a scar on his cheek thanks to Akai and it's definitely an evil example.
Good Smoking, Evil Smoking: One of the most evil characters in the series and a regular smoker.
The Heavy: Because the Boss is never seen, Gin is the main antagonist in most confrontations with the Black Organization. For one arc, Vermouth took over this role instead.
Hero Killer: Kicks the series off by almost murdering the protagonist, who only survives through an absurd stroke of luck that Gin couldn't possibly predict. He came quite close to killing several other main characters as well, and is one of the most feared men in the series.
Icy Blue Eyes: Gin has piercing blue eyes that match his cold, uncaring behavior. This is green in the anime.
Knight of Cerebus: Only shows up for the most serious and important cases.
Looming Silhouette of Rage: Before he strikes down Shinichi with a metal pipe in the first chapter.
Made of Iron: Conan hits him from a cover with the tranquilizer needle to help Ai to get away. Not only it briefly stunned him instead of working like Instant Sedation as always, Gin shoots own shoulder just in case and avoids Forced Sleep.
Meaningful Name: The name "Gin" is also known as "Silver" in Japanese, which is also the color of Gin's hair, a point that is noted in Countdown to Heaven. It must be noted that his name is pronounced like the drink, while the color is pronounce differently.
Metallicar Syndrome: That Porsche of his is cool, but extremely rare (doubly so in Japan) and noticeable. More than once Ai has noticed the car and knows Gin is around (and begins sweating cold).
Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Killing Pisco ended up preventing him from revealing that Shiho Miyano is alive and shrunk herself.
Obviously Evil: Shinichi suspected he was evil just by looking at him.
Properly Paranoid: He correctly guesses that Itakura's software disk Vodka has picked up was attached to a tape so someone (Conan) would get his fingerprints on them, and it being warm means the one's responsible has to be nearby. He then for no reason starts checking the coin lockers at the station before giving up right where Conan was hiding. He followed Vodka in the first place because he found it strange that Itakura (Conan with voicechanger) was able to answer the call from a cottage on a snowy hill despite his poor heart condition.
Scars Are Forever: Gets a permanent scar when Shuuichi Akai grazes his cheek with a sniper bullet.
A Sinister Clue: He is left-handed.
Slasher Smile: How he usually smiles...and it is creepy.
Smoking Is Cool: He is a heavy smoker and one of the dangerously competent members if the Organization.
The Sociopath: Can kill without remorse and doesn't even remember many of his victims.
Sue Donym: "Gin" is clearly based on his real name, Jin Kurosawa.
Undying Loyalty: While everyone in the organization has shown loyalty to the group and their boss, Gin deserves a special mention. He once pulled a gun on his own partner, Vodka, when Gin suspected of him being a traitor.
Villainous Cheekbones: He has prominent cheekbones (more so in the manga) and is one of the most dangerous adversaries for Shinichi/Conan and his allies.
Wake-Up Call Boss: Downplayed. He's recurring main antagonist and has yet to figure out anything about Shinichi/Conan, but he has also proven to be the protagonist's biggest adversary due to Gin's intelligence and has only become more dangerous as the story progresses.
White Hair, Black Heart: He has silver hair, and is one of the most dangerous antagonists in the series.
Would Hit a Girl: Gin has zero moral qualms over killing and/or injuring women. A few notable examples includes killing Akemi, attempting to murder Shiho/Ai, and threatening to murder Vermouth and Kir when he suspects either one of betrayal.
Would Hurt a Child: Orders to kill Kogoro and Conan.
"Kill him...along with the kid..."
Wrong Genre Savvy: He can predict his enemies' motives and actions and make accurate deductions from even the tiniest detail, but has no idea that one of his opponents is a genius detective in the body of a six-year old. This leads him to make several grave mistakes, such as not looking for his enemy in places where no adult could possibly hide.

Vodka

Gin's partner.

Dub Name Change: Kaspar (Manga only. Later reverted back to Vodka).

Dumb Muscle: The big idiot that Gin always has to help.
Hidden Depths: Despite being the Dumb Muscle between him and Gin, Vodka has exceptional memory skill and thus one of the few people to actually remember that APTX4869 was used on Shinichi.
Number Two: Of the subordinates that work under Gin, Vodka works with him the most.
Satellite Character: He is Gin's partner and is rarely seen doing anything on his own.
Sue Donym: His codename is a pun on his last name.
Sunglasses at Night: Almost never seen without his glasses.
The Watson: An evil version. Since's he considerably less intelligent and of lower rank than his partner, Gin can explain his plans and those of the Organization to Vodka (and therefore the audience) without having to talk to himself.

Atsushi Miyano

Voiced by: Yūichi Nakamura (JP)

Ai and Akemi's father; the husband of Elena Miyano. He worked on the APTX 4869 project with his wife. He and his wife died shortly after Ai's birth, supposedly in an accident. Ai later took over their research, but its exact goal and purpose has not yet been revealed.

All of the Other Reindeer: Atsushi was a "mad scientist" who was unpopular in the scientific community because his work and theories were not mainstream.
Disappeared Dad: To Ai and Akemi as he is dead, especially to the former who never met him.
He Who Must Not Be Seen: We don't get to see Atsushi's face until File 1011.
Hidden Depths:
- Like his wife, Ai has never known them, but after meeting Conan's loving mother Yukiko she becomes bothered by the fact that her own parents both had an extremely unflattering reputation. She later finds out they were better people than commonly thought:
- Atsushi was rejected by the scientific community as a deranged mind, but Agasa claims he was an open and friendly man when he met him.
Mad Scientist: Atsushi's peers thought he was this. The fact that he was apparently brilliant and immoral enough to join the most dangerous criminal organization in the world and take on their most important research project lends credence to this, but we ultimately don't know his reasons or the goal of his research yet.
Posthumous Character: He and Elena died long before the present story. Elena left tapes to Ai, however, which may or may not turn out to contain significant secrets.
Tuckerization: The name "Atsushi" comes from animator Atsushi Aono.

Elena Miyano

Voiced by: Hiroko Suzuki / Megumi Hayashibara (JP)

Ai's and Akemi's mother; the wife of Atsushi Miyano. She who worked on the APTX 4869 project with her husband. She and her husband died shortly after Ai's birth, supposedly in an accident. Ai later took over their research, but its exact goal and purpose has not yet been revealed.

But Not Too Foreign: File 1011 reveals that the reason she felt a bond with a young Rei Furuya is the fact that both of them were half-Japanese.
Emotionless Girl: Elena gave this impression to Agasa and others.
Hidden Depths:
- Like her husband, Ai has never known them, but after meeting Conan's loving mother Yukiko she becomes bothered by the fact that her own parents both had an extremely unflattering reputation. She later finds out they were better people than commonly thought:
- Elena was known as "Hell's Angel" in the Organization and appeared cold and unapproachable even to Agasa. Turns out she was also a warm and caring mother: Before she died, she recorded 20 tapes for Ai, one for each of her first 20 birthdays, so that Elena could be close to her daughter on her way to adulthood.
- It's strongly implied that Elena may have had an Inter Generational Friendship with a then very young Tooru Amuro.
Hidden Eyes: Elena's eyes are not visible beneath her reflecting glasses. File 1011 finally reveals her face clearly.
Ice Queen: Elena had this reputation even within an Organization full of unrepentant killers.
Missing Mom: To Ai and Akemi as she is dead, especially to the former who never met her.
Posthumous Character: She and Atsushi died long before the present story. Elena left tapes to Ai, however, which may or may not turn out to contain significant secrets.

Dropped a Bridge on Him: Got killed by a bomb by mistake.
Would Hurt a Child: When Conan pretended he dropped a 10 yen coin that had fallen beneath Tequila's shoe and really tried to stick a transmitter and bug on the sole of his shoe, Conan was hit hard by Tequila for annoying him. This shows Tequila has an impatient personality and isn't afraid to hit young children.

The lead female operative of the Black Organization introduced during the Organization's initial hunt for Miyano Shiho. An expert at impersonation, she is a notoriously independent Wild Card even among her own allies and always puts her own agenda above all other goals—wildness tolerated only because she is the Boss' "favorite." However, her most recent activities have shown her willingly working along side Bourbon. It turns out she has history with the cast and Shinichi and Ran in particular. Throughout the course of the manga she comes to believe that Shinichi, and not Akai, is the real "Silver Bullet" that will eventually destroy the Black Organization. But while she's not above manipulating Shinichi or threatening those around him, she would do almost anything to prevent him and Ran from being killed.

Her known aliases are Chris Vineyard and Sharon Vineyard.

The Ageless: For a yet unexplained reason, Vermouth doesn't seem to age, and looks exactly the same as she did twenty years ago. When asked, she has proven evasive about the subject. She is certainly not immune to harm, however; she's faced immobilizing injuries, and the fact she could bleed served as proof that her youthful appearance was not a disguise.
Anime Accent Absence: For a supposedly American character, her Gratuitous English can get quite horrible.
Attending Your Own Funeral: In a flashback, Chris Vineyard is shown giving the eulogy at her mother, Sharon Vineyard's, funeral. They're both the exact same person.
Because You Were Nice to Me: The reason why Vermouth goes out of her way to protect Shinichi/Conan and Ran is because they both saved her life in New York even after she was about to kill them.
The Bus Came Back: After being missing for a while, she reappears in 954... impersonating Azusa Enomoto.
Catchphrase: "A secret makes a woman woman," spoken in the most godawful heavily-accented Engrish imaginable ("A secret makes a ooman ooman"). One kid even lampshades this in an episode. After he meets Vermouth, he is questioned by Conan, and replies that it was a woman who kept on repeating the word "horse" (uma). The English version of the manga re-phrases this is "An air of mystery gives a woman her allure", which frankly makes far more sense.
Dark and Troubled Past: If her "No angel has ever smiled upon me. Not even once." line is any indication.
Dartboard of Hate: Shown to have one, with a picture of pre-Apotoxin Haibara tacked on the dartboard with a giant "X" drawn over her face.
Designated Girl Fight: The Rotten Apple arc starts out this way with Jodie desperately trying to protect Haibara from her, since Vermouth is the only female major Black Organization member alive at this point. It eventually subverted when it revealed that Haibara is actually Conan in disguise. And then the real Haibara, Ran and finally Shuichi Akai join the fray.
Embarrassing Nickname: More like 'hated nickname'. The FBI has coded her 'Rotten Apple', because she was an award-winning actress in a play called the 'Golden Apple', but due to her shady, murderous background she's considered 'rotten on the inside'. She does not take it well when she's told this.
Enigmatic Minion: Emphasis on the "enigmatic" part. This especially applies because of the unusual amount of interest Vermouth has in Shinichi, as well as the fact she is clearly not always working in the Organization's best interest, and has some sort of hidden agenda.
Even Evil Has Loved Ones: The only people Vermouth truly cares about are Shinichi/Conan and Ran. This stems from both of them saving her life in New York two years ago, even though Vermouth (in disguise) was going to kill them. Ever since then, Vermouth has done everything she can to protect them whenever one and/or both are in danger. Also, Vermouth still seems to consider Yukiko her friend, their confrontation on the Jet-Black Mystery Train case is basically a long talk between them, albeit Vermouth points her gun at Yukiko at one point and after that, Vermouth leaves Yukiko unharmed despite Yukiko being knowing much more about her than before. And when realising she was Out-Gambitted by her and Shinichi/Conan, she calmly accepts her defeat and congratulates Yukiko.
Even Evil Has Standards: Although the mysterious and beautiful criminal Vermouth has killed many people, she will not kill the protagonist, or his love interest; this probably has to do with the fact that they saved her life a year ago, and Conan is the son of Vermouth's friend Yukiko Kudo. Things get really interesting when Ran sneaks in the trunk of Jodie's car and tries to stop Vermouth; her mook immediately starts shooting, but Vermouth yells at him and tells him to stop shooting. As Ran protects Haibara, (whom Vermouth hates), Vermouth shoots around her, and tries to get her to release Haibara.
Evil Counterpart: To Yukiko Kudo. Both were longtime friends (with Vermouth in disguise) who studied under the now-deceased Toichi Kuroba and are renowned for being great actresses and disguise artists. They also have some connection to Shinichi/Conan and Ran (for Yukiko, the former is her son and the latter is a friend of her son's who Yukiko ships with; for Vermouth, the two serve as her Morality Pets, being one of the very few, if not the only people she truly loves because they saved her life a year prior even though she was about to kill them). She and Yukiko are also known to be quite good-looking and playful, the latter which is an annoyance to some. However, while Yukiko uses her skills to prevent and/or solve murders, Vermouth uses hers to carry out murders and other crimes.
Evil Former Friend: Vermouth, as Sharon Vineyard, is a longtime friend of Yukiko Kudo and is a member of the Organisation responsible to the current state of Shinichi/Conan (Yukiko's son) and Shiho/Ai.
Femme Fatale: Mysterious, seductive and dangerous, she got all in one package.
First-Name Basis: Yukiko is the only one to still call her by her name, well more like by the name Yukiko always knew her with, Sharon. In the Jet-Black Mystery Train case, even after Yukiko knows the truth about Vermouth, she still calls her Sharon, something Vermouth never correct during their entire confrontation.
Good Smoking, Evil Smoking: Is seen lighting herself a cigarette when she's first revealed as a member of the Organization.
Graceful Loser: In the Jet-Black Mystery Train case, Yukiko challenges Vermouth to "battle of wits" where Vermouth would have to truly give up on killing Shiho/Haibara forever if Conan outsmarted her on the train. After the case and discovering that Shiho/Ai is still alive, she mentally congratulates Yukiko for "excellent casting". Since then, she is still keeping her promise to Yukiko.
Improbable Aiming Skills: She manages to shoot out the gas tank of a car with a small handgun while driving another car and looking in her rear-view mirror. As Akai remarks, she's very good.
I Owe You My Life: Vermouth will do anything to protect both Shinichi/Conan and Ran because of the two saving her life in New York a year prior to the series.
It's Not You, It's Me: When Ran recognizes Vermouth under her Azusa disguise and confronts her, she sadly tells her not to come into "her world".
Latex Perfection: She did, after all, train under the same instructor as the other two Masters of Disguise, Yukiko and Kaito.

- During the time that she and Kir wore motorcycle suit during the assassination attempt, Kir wore the suit modestly while Vermouth showed a fair bit of cleavage.

Navel-Deep Neckline: Often wears outfits that have plunging necklines, some which go down to her midriff.
The Nicknamer: Refers to Shinichi/Conan as "Silver Bullet" and Ran as "Angel".

Not So Stoic: If she's not in disguise, she's probably treating both ally and enemy with the exact same shade of detached, smug amusement. But when Ran throws a wrench into her plans? That's when she snaps.

- She also lost her composure when the Black Organization starting to target Kogoro after detecting the tracker Conan put on Ker. It took Gin pointing a gun at her for her to reverting back to her usual attitude.
- Her willingness to break character for the sake of those she secretly cares about is foreshadowed by the set up of the above conflict; her putting her own life at risk to protect Conan during the ski trip busjacking is what causes the FBI to start seriously investigating Conan, setting up Jodie's and Vermouth's eventual confrontation.
Older Than They Look: Vermouth is shown in a flashback set at least twenty years ago. She looks exactly the same as she does now when she kills Jodie's father. She also is impersonating her own daughter, having first been Sharon Vineyard and then assuming the identity of Chris Vineyard as of Sharon's funeral.
Out-of-Character Moment: Discussed by Jodie during their initial confrontation. At one point during the Bus Hijacking case, Vermouth (disguised as Dr. Araide) intentionally got herself involved in the conflict in order to stand between Conan and the busjacker's gun, protecting him from being shot for seemingly no reason that benefit herself. Because Vermouth absolutely Would Hurt a Child—something Jodie knows personally—Jodie realized Vermouth was somehow especially invested in Conan.
Secret-Keeper: Down to her Catchphrase. She is also one of the few people who know that Conan is really Shinichi, as well as Haibara's real identity.
Sugar-and-Ice Personality: A rather extreme example. She is coolly professional to her colleagues, but doesn't seem to care for any of them. She is Ano kata's "favorite", implying that Vermouth may care for her boss to some level, but that's up in the air at this point. But like her peers, she doesn't bat an eye when ordered to kill someone. Her more noble features come out whenever she protects Shinichi/Conan and Ran.
Voice Changeling: Vermouth is able to mimic anyone's appearance and voice exactly with her disguise and acting skills even after observing them for only a short period of time.
Would Hurt a Child: When FBI agent Jodie Starling was a child, she walked in on Vermouth after the latter killed her parents. Vermouth coolly told the then-child to wait by her father's side until he woke up. She then set the house on fire to get rid of any evidence, the bodies of Jodie's parents, and kill the young witness. Fortunately, the then-young Jodie went out of the house before Vermouth set the fire.

A lower rank Black Organization member who infiltrated Haido Central Hospital to search for Kir when she was being held custody by the FBI. Similar to Calvados, he committed suicide over being taking into custody by the FBI.

Driven to Suicide: He killed himself when he realized he couldn't escape the FBI during a car pursuit.
Elite Mook: He's not a high enough operative to have his own codename, but still played a pivotal role during the Kir arc.
Posthumous Character: Despite his small role, his death plays a part in the story as Bourbon searches for his whereabouts.

Dark Action Girl: Part of the villainous Black Organization and is an expert sniper.

The Gunslinger: She serves the Organization as their sniper.
Trigger-Happy: Comments that if Gin takes too long to decide whether she should shoot the target, she'll do it regardless of his orders.
Villainous Friendship: Seems to have decent friendship with Calvados and Korn because she and Korn share their hatred on Vermouth for leaving Calvados to die.

Dub Name Change: Cornelius Graver.

Anti-Villain: Played with. While he has committed many crimes, the story often plays him up more as a frightened victim with animalistic reactions who kills when he cracks under pressure, rather than a fully malicious Monster who kills For the Evulz. OTOH, Haibara openly says he shouldn't be pitied as he's just too crazy to handle and did kill others for the heck of it.
Beard of Sorrow: More like Beard of Psychosis.
Expository Hairstyle Change: We see him well-shaved and with short hair in an old photo. We "meet" him with a Beard of Sorrow and longer hair. And in his last appearance when he's in the forest with Mitsuhiko, his hair has grown past his shoulders.
Friend to All Living Things: Having lived near a forest when he was a child, he likes animals quite a lot. Specially fireflies, whom Numabuchi considers "his friends".
Looks Like Cesare: Pale skin, black hair, hollow eyes...
Genta: So we have to search for someone who looks like a skeleton?
Psycho for Hire: Was supposed to be this in the Organization, but was just too psychotic despite his physical strength and inhuman reflexes.. He was then slated to be the guinea pig for the APTX 4869, but that sent Numabuchi into a psychotic breakdown (again) and he ran away, killing several people in his crazy escape.
Psychopathic Manchild: Many of his reactions to danger can be seen as childish.
Red Herring: Invoked. Yusuke Sakata wanted to use them as one by killing and then framing him for the murders that he commited, since Numabuchi was involved in his father's death.
Serial Killer: Which is the reason why he's on the run and later, all but stated to have been executed by hanging.
Villainous BSoD: Has many of these. The most notable example was when he was apprehended by Yusuke Sakata, who had striking resemblance to Inaba Sakata, who died long ago no thanks to the prank went too far.

Calvados

One of the many snipers hired by the Organization with a soft-spot for Vermouth. He commits suicide over being taken into custody by the FBI.

Better to Die than Be Killed: Having been injured by Akai and about to be taken into custody, he killed himself to avoid capture and a posterior "You Have Failed Me".
Cold Sniper: Fits this trope as much, to the point that he has no lines in his only appearance.
The Faceless: His face is never really shown in his actual physical appearance. It's only shown later posthumously in a flashback from Chianti.
Forgotten Fallen Friend: Vermouth doesn't seem to care about his death. Chianti and Korn, however, do not forget him and resent their group for "letting him die".
Subordinate Excuse: Seemed to have feelings for Vermouth.
Sunglasses at Night: In a flashback from Chianti, he's seen with sunglasses. So he presumably wore them in the night of his death.

A rather sympathetic member of The Syndicate. Akemi is Ai Haibara/Shiho Miyano's dead older sister, having been murdered by the Syndicate.

Dub Name Change: Kendra (later reverted to Akemi in Countdown to Heaven).

Ascended Extra: Got an additional TV episode to herself to fix any plotholes coming from her early appearance.
Betty and Veronica: The mysterious Anti-Villain from an amoral syndicate ("Veronica") to Jodie's straight-arrowed FBI agent ("Betty") for Akai's "Archie". Originally, Akai was in a relationship with Jodie and only dated Akemi to get more info about the Organization, but came to fall in love with her for real and decided to break up with Jodie as a result.
Bowdlerize: Her death in the manga had her bleeding quite a bit and coughing up EVEN MORE blood in front of Ran and Conan. This was seriously toned down in the anime.
Broken Bird: Being in the Organization really didn't do any good to her emotional state, and she's said to have a very sad aura by Akai
Children Are Innocent: As a little girl, Akemi's innocent smile quenched a Killer of the Week's thirst for murder years ago. He was hoping for her to visit him once more and dissuade him again, but she was killed before she could return.
Cool Big Sis: For Shiho, as seen in the flashback. Akemi had constantly tried to encourage the studious and workaholic Shiho to relax and find herself a boyfriend.
Dark and Troubled Past: Downplayed. Unlike her younger sister, Akemi was given a normal life, but she still couldn't see her only family member whose was being forced to do things for a criminal syndicate.
Died in Your Arms Tonight: Conan's, in both anime and manga.
Even Evil Has Standards: In her first anime episode, she was very disgusted when one of her accomplices, Okita, tricked her into killing another (Akira Hirota) with poison. She was even more pissed when she learned Okita wanted to off her as well. It's similar in the manga, when she screams at Gin and Vodka for their similar action.
Kissing Cousins: In a Q&A with fans in Singapore, Gosho confirmed that Akai and Akemi are cousins. Here. It starts at 34:23
Knight Templar Big Brother: She did the robbery because the Organization promised her to release Shiho from their control. Of course, Gin made sure to let Akemi know he has no interest keep said promise.
Living Emotional Crutch:
- To Shiho — Akemi's death caused her younger sister to attempt suicide when she learned of it.
- To Shuichi Akai — He originally dated her to learn more about the Organization, but came to love her for real. And her murder caused him to become more emotionally closed off to his fellow allies.
The Lost Lenore: To Shuichi Akai. He met her while working as The Mole in the Black Organization that she and her Teen Genius sister Shiho belonged to, faked feelings for her but ultimately fell in love for real since she was an Anti-Villain... but after lots of messy stuff, she was murdered.
Manipulative Bitch: Very, very good at making herself look sweet and unassuming. She's not.
Master of Disguise: Disguised as high school girl in her introductory case.
Necessarily Evil: Only worked for the Organization so they would let her and her little sister go. Of course, they were just using her all along.
Nice Girl: Akemi had a friendly, cheerful and outgoing personality and a good sense of humor.
Punch-Clock Villain: Unlike her sister, she had a normal life outside the Organization.
Older Than They Look: She was good enough at disguises to make herself pass as a schoolgirl in her first appearance, despite being at least in her mid-20's.
Out-Gambitted: Subverted. Akemi met up with Gin and Vodka and told them they wouldn't kill her or they'd never know where she put the money she stole for them... but they shot her to death and took the key to the locker where she hid it. However, Akemi had the last laugh: said locker key was false, and she gave the real one to Conan before dying.
Red Herring Shirt:
- When Akemi was killed, she was a mook. It was 16 volumes later when she was ascended into a Posthumous Character for being Ai Haibara's dead elder sister, then being Shuichi Akai's girlfriend and The Lost Lenore, which caused some problems for the animators discussed in Schrödinger's Cast, below.
- As a result, this was less obvious in the anime: the episode where Akemi gets killed is the one immediately before the one where Haibara is introduced—yet Conan says in the latter episode that the Akemi case was "some time ago".
Retcon:
- Probably, since the Episode One TV special from 2017 shows Akemi's death... following the manga continuity.
- Episode 128 pretty much retconned the anime's original adaptation of the Billion Yen Robbery case.
Retirony: In both anime and manga, she had intended to leave the Syndicate alongside Shiho and definitely get together with her boyfriend Akai as soon as she made a last robbery for the group. The Syndicate thought otherwise.
Schrödinger's Cast: The infamous anime fixup, as the anime adaptation of the relevant chapters (episode 13) changed the end to made her not a mook of the Dark Organization and she was kept alive, but since she needs to die for Ai's Backstory to continue, an original episode (episode 128) was made before Ai's appearance at 129 so that she's Killed Off for Real. Even more bizarrely, her second appearance makes no reference at all to the first one, and makes no mention of any meeting between Conan/the Mouris and her - in fact the Mouris don't even recognize her at all, so it ends up that in the anime continuity there were two Akemi Miyanos under the pseudonym of Masami Hirota around the Tokyo area.
Shadow Archetype: To Ran. Both of them have been noted to have similarities in physical appearance and personality, but Akemi represents what Ran could be if she were to commit crimes to protect her loved ones.
She Knows Too Much: Another probable reason for her murder. As the sister to Sherry (top scientist of the Black Org.) and the lover to Akai (who was The Mole in the organization), she probably would be able to leak info to the FBI or others.
Star-Crossed Lovers: Her and Shuichi Akai — He started dating her only to strengthen his position as The Mole for the Black Organization, but seeing that she was an Anti-Villain and that she liked him despite suspecting that he was using her made him change his mind. When he was found out he tried to get her to come with him, but she refused because her little sister Shiho was an Org. member and she didn't want to abandon her. And few afterwards, after a last and failed attempt to free herself and her sister, she was murdered.
Walking Spoiler: Can we stop spoilering her identity?
White Shirt of Death: In her second anime episode she wore a very light-colored, almost white Office Lady suit. And then, she died.

Pisco

A major financer of the Black Organization as a car company chairman. His real name is Kenzou Masuyama. He was killed by Gin personally for having been caught on camera during one of his murders.

Death by Secret Identity: Gin killed Pisco before he had the chance to tell him that Shiho is shrunk into a body of little girl.
Evil Old Folks: Probably one of the oldest members in the Organization.
Good Smoking, Evil Smoking: Another member of the Organization who enjoys the occasional cigarette. This turns out to be his undoing when he stands in a puddle of high proof liquor and the fumes catch fire, allowing Ai and Conan to escape from him.
You Have Failed Me: Was killed by the Black Organization because he was caught on photos while killing a politician.

Scotch (real name Hiromitsu Morofushi)

Childhood Friends: With Furuya, as revealed in Chapter 1021. Chapter 1081 also reveals he was friends with Yamamura of all people.
Cynicism Catalyst: He's this to Shuichi Akai, Tooru Amuro and Sera Masumi.
Parental Abandonment: Chapter 1020 reveals that his parents died when he was a child. He went to live with relatives in Tokyo after that, while his older brother remained in Nagano. According to Wild Police Story, he witnessed their murder, and remained fixated on the incident even after entering the police academy.
Posthumous Character: He died quite a while ago. He was The Mole like Akai/Rye and Amuro/Bourbon, and his death is the incident that threw the massive wrench between them. Akai found out about him and tried to sway him to his cause, but then Scotch committed suicide in a desperate attempt to cover his tracks; Amuro is deeply, deeply angry at Akai for having let hit happen.

- Scotch in a flashback of chapter 937. Said 'back shows that he was friends with Amuro from before they became The Mole, and it also includes a pre-teen Sera who seems to have seen him as a Big Brother Mentor. He didn't know Akai until the moment of his death, presumably because Akai lived in the USA for a long time.
- Chapter 1021 reveals that his real name is Hiromitsu Morofushi, and he was Detective Morofushi's younger brother.
Walking Spoiler: It's a bit difficult to talk about him without spoiling a lot about the backstories of Amuro, Akai, and Morofushi.

A very bright and large Organization member who is vital to the plot of the 13th movie, The Raven Chaser.

Big Ol' Eyebrows: Spiky, thick ones.
Canon Foreigner: Only appeared in the 13th non-canon movie.
Death by Secret Identity: He knows Conan is Shinichi. Guess what happens to him.
Genius Bruiser: Irish seems quite smart, and endowed with deduction skills, as he manages to find out that Conan is actually Shinichi relatively quickly when he has only met him once. He's also a capable martial arts fighter whose strong body can count on well-mastered battle techniques. He single-handedly knocks out six police officers and a security employee, although it is very likely he hit them from behind. In addition, he is able to stand up to Ran in a hand-to-hand fight, defeating her after a balanced confrontation, though his winning strike may have relied on the element of surprise.
Master of Disguise: Impersonates Matsumoto.
Noble Demon: He at least claims to be one, saying that he wants revenge for his old friend Pisco's death. It doesn't stop him from beating up Ran and Conan, though.
Taking the Bullet: Conan tried to save an already wounded Irish, but Gin saw him and shot at him. Irish protected Conan, took the bullet and then kicked it, his last words being a sort-of challenge to Conan/Shinichi: "Shinichi Kudo... keep coming after us!"
Villain's Dying Grace: After Chianti severely wounded him, his last action is to take a bullet for Conan and urges him to keep coming after his organization before he died.
Would Hurt a Child: Has no qualms over beating up Conan.
Would Hit a Girl: Beats up Ran bloody.

A high ranking Black Organization member responsible for stealing NOC agent list from the NPA Security Bureau Office. After a botched escape attempt, she lost her memories and came across Conan and the Detective Boys, who try to help her regain her memories. She sacrificed herself to save the kids and countless civilians when the Ferris Wheel is about to crash into the Marine Park.

Badass Driver: Curaçao was able to out-drive both Amuro and Akai.
Because You Were Nice to Me: Her Heel–Face Turn was mainly due to the kindness Mitsuhiko, Genta, and Ayumi showed her.
Canon Foreigner: Similar to Irish, she only appeared in the 20th Non-Serial Movie, The Darkest Nightmare.
Can't Kill You, Still Need You: She was once subjected to be executed by Vermouth, but Rum prevented it, saying that he still have some use for her and made her his assistant.
Character Development: Goes from a ruthless BO agent to a decent, normal person once she got to spent some time with the Detective Boys over the course of the film.
Dark Action Girl: A member of the criminal BO and an expert in fighting.
Heel–Face Turn: Even after she got her memories back, she decided not to go back to the Black Organization because of her bonding with the Detective Boys, and sacrificed herself to save the kids and countless civilians in the Marine Park.
Improbable Aiming Skills: She has perfect aiming skills as expected from an elite BO member, being able to score three consecutive bulleyes when playing darts.
Laser-Guided Amnesia: She lost her memories after something triggered in her brain after she saw the colorful light show in front of the Ferris Wheel. It's also how she gained her memories back, and is the reason why she carried color tags (with the same five colors as the five colors of the Curaçao liqueur, hence her codename) with her so she can keep her memories intact.
Mama Bear: Sacrificed her life to protect Mitsuhiko, Genta, and Ayumi from being killed.
Number Two: At first, Conan and Haibara thought she is Rum, the BO's second-in-command, but in reality her codename is Curaçao. This trope still applies as she's Rum's primary agent and confidant.
One-Woman Army: She was able to take on three NPA agents at once.
Rasputinian Death: Gets shot by a helicopter mid-fall from a jump at the center of a Ferris wheel and gets impaled by a piece of rebar, yet still she gets up and drives a crane to stop said wheel from rolling over an aquarium's worth of people before being crushed to death.
Redemption Equals Death: Her actions in the beginning of the movie results in the deaths of three NOC agents infiltrated within the BO and almost blows Amuro and Rena's covers. At the end of the film she died saving the Detective Boys and many other civilians from the gigantic Ferris Wheel.
Rule of Symbolism: She was first wearing all black, signifying her ties to the BO. Over time (especially spent with the Detective Boys), has her gradually lose all of her black colors and replace them white (representing her transformation into a decent person).
Technicolor Eyes: She is an odd-eye person, and one of her eyes is pure white.

Pinga

Voiced by: Ayumu Murase (JP)

A greedy man who tries to kick others down to get to the top. He infiltrates the Pacific Buoy as the Frenchwoman Grace before Conan exposes his true identity.

Berserk Button: Comparing him to Gin in any way, especially if you call him inferior to Gin.
Canon Foreigner: Only appears in the 26th Non-Serial Movie, Black Iron Submarine.
Disguised in Drag: As Grace.
Faux Affably Evil: He may be polite as Grace, but it doesn't excuse his act poisoning Leonhardt aboard the Pacific Buoy. He immediately drops the act after being exposed as Pinga.
My Master, Right or Wrong: He only listens to orders from Rum, regardless if they are for the right or wrong reasons.
The Rival: To Gin.
The Starscream: He loves to kick other members of the Black Organization down just so he can get to the top of the hierarchy.
You Have Failed Me: Gin leaves him behind to blow up along with the Black Iron Submarine after the All-Ages Identification program he's been pursuing is deemed worthless by Rum. This is probably more that he openly gloated to Gin that he had something that will humiliate him in the organization.
