Shizuoka Police
Sango Yokomizo
Inspector Sango Yokomizo

Police officer in the Shizuoka prefecture. He's the first non-Tokyo police officer introduced in the series. His twin brother Jugo is also a policeman.
Dub Name Change: Inspector Worthington.
- Always Identical Twins: With his younger twin brother, Jugo. The only way to tell them apart is their different hairstyles.
- Agent Mulder: While he isn't as prone to attributing murders to monsters as Yamamura does, he did call the JSDF during the Nue case (chapters 960-962/episodes 872-874).
- Anime Hair: Ayumi remarks at one point that it resembles coral.
- Big Ol' Eyebrows: He has some thick eyebrows.
- Character Tics: When it comes to investigating a case, Sango has two distinct traits.
- He tends to get his face right into a suspect's face, study them closely, and scream into their face when he believes he is onto something, a habit which even he believes is a little embarrassing.
- Another trait of his is to speak really loudly when deeply involved in an investigation. His loud voice has received many complaints from suspects.
- Clueless Detective: Downplayed. While not as bad as Yamamura, Sango is often too reliant on Kogoro and pretty much like pre-Character Development Megure. In "Client Full of Lies" case, he attempted to arrest Shizuka Hattori based mostly on assumptions and suspiciously-predictable dying message (which later turns out to be faked by the culprit to frame Shizuka) without sufficient evidence. Shizuka, being married to a police chief, laughed it off and accurately pointed out why his attempt to arrest her is pathetic: that he needed to get sufficient evidence first to get a warrant to arrest her. In "The Worst Birthday" case, he also attempted to arrest Eri Kisaki despite, again, lacking evidence.
- Fan Boy: He's a huge fan of Sleeping Kogoro and when not directly investigating awaits the show like a kid.
- Meaningful Name: "Sango", when written with certain kanji, can mean "coral". His hair, as said above, is shaped like coral.
- Nice Guy: He has a sweet and honest personality.
- Polar Opposite Twins: With Jugo. While his brothers is harsher and more menacing, Sango has a friendlier (and also slightly less brave) character.
- Running Gag: People complaining about his loud voice or his Hands-On Approach.
- Theme Twin Naming: Sango can mean 3 and 5. Jugo can mean 15. 3 * 5 = 15.
- Twin Switch: Jugo has done this for him once or twice.
- Underestimating Badassery: Somehow he believes Kogoro can only solve a case as Sleeping Kogoro, and he thinks Kogoro in "normal mode" is much less smarter. Although it is true to an extent, Sango played this trope straight in a case where It's Personal for Kogoro, as Eri became the prime suspect.
- Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Can't swim since he's terrified of water and the ocean.
Kanagawa Police

Sango's twin younger brother, also a police officer.
- Always Identical Twins: With his older twin brother, Sango. The only way to tell them apart is their different hairstyles.
- Big Ol' Eyebrows: Just like his brother, he has very thick eyebrows.
- Good is Not Nice: Is undoubtedly on the side of good, but can be quite the jerk at times.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: While he can be a jerk most of the time, he does have a strong moral code.
- Karma Houdini: In episode 597, he kicked Conan and realistically would've gotten in trouble for it.
- Perpetual Frowner: Hardly ever smiles.
- Polar Opposite Twins: With Sango. While Sango has a friendlier (and also slightly less brave) demeanor, Jugo is harsher and more menacing.
- Ship Tease: Gets this treatment with Chihaya at the end of chapter 1075.
- Theme Twin Naming: Sango can mean 3 and 5. Jugo can mean 15. 3 * 5 = 15.
Chihaya Hagiwara
Assistant Inspector Chihaya Hagiwara
A traffic cop from Kanagawa Prefecture and Kenji Hagiwara's elder sister.
- Catch a Falling Star: Saves Conan from falling on an expressway by launching her motorcycle in the air.
- Drives Like Crazy: She isn't above flinging a motorcycle above an expressway, performing stoppies, or launching it (with Conan handcuffed around her waist) to a car roof to subdue Agasa's kidnappers
- Hot-Blooded: Implied by Jugo when he says that she often gets into arguments with suspects on the road.
- Ship Tease: Gets one with Jugo at the end of chapter 1075.
- That One Case: Her brother's death. That's why Agasa's kidnapping becomes personal for her as it presented her an opportunity to "repay" Conan for doing what Kenji and Matsuda were killed trying to.
- The Tease: Gets a kick out of her flirtatious banter with Jugo.
Gunma Police
Misao Yamamura
Inspector Misao Yamamura
Voiced by Toshio Furukawa (JP)/ Kent Williams (EN)
Mandatory Naming Note: Yamamura's name comes from mystery writer Misa Yamamura.
A quirky, child-like police officer from the Gunma prefecture.
Dub Name Change: Inspector Magnum.
- Afraid of Blood: Somewhat of a handicap for a policeman.
- Agent Mulder: He is incredibly naive and superstitious, fully believing that a "curse" was left by ghosts in a case, to the point of being scared. In another case involving what's seemingly a murder committed by a zombie, he busts out a crucifix to ward off the "zombies" (actually extras for a movie that was going to be filmed prior to the murder).
- Born Lucky: In his first case, he mentioned that the only reason why he was put on the case was because everyone else in his precinct had a cold.
- Butt-Monkey: The reaction of most characters when they see Yamamura is complete bewilderment; Kogoro even notes that he cannot believe that this is the only detective from the Gunma prefecture that can help him out during a murder case. When he is promoted, Conan expressed worry about the future of Gunma police with Yamamura in charge of other detectives.
- The Chew Toy: Whenever he appears, something weird or funny will happen to him.
- Clueless Detective: Unlike other police officers in the series, he is a complete idiot who can't do anything right so that even Kogoro Facepalms at him. Even after his promotion as Inspector, he is still extremely clueless.
- Fake Ultimate Hero: His reputation grows after Conan knocks him out to solve a case, which gives him more assignments and probably lead his promotion.
- Fanboy: Of Yukiko (he became a police detective because he was a fan of Yukiko Kudo's television show in which she played a police woman) and Kogoro. Doesn't stop him from accusing them of murder at the drop of a hat, though.
- Hated by All. No one can stand him, not even Kogoro. This is due to a combination of his Manchild behavior, easiness into believing in the supernatural despite being a detective, and being annoying whenever he tries to act cool.
- Identical Grandson: A picture of his grandmother shows that Yamamura looks exactly like her. The only differences are their gender and age.
- Keet: Whenever Yamamura is involved in catching a criminal, he tends to become very excited.
- Manchild: He acts even more immature and childish than Kogoro.
- Naïve Newcomer: When he appeared, he had just been appointed to his workplace.
- One Degree of Separation: In Chapter 1082, he meets Inspector Morofushi from the Nagano Police Department and asks if he's related to Hiromitsu, a friend of his from his childhood.
- Plucky Comic Relief: When Yamamura appears in the story, you can expect him to say or do something foolish.
- Police Are Useless: While most of the police force are easily duped by criminals and have to rely on outside help, Yamamura takes the cake. He makes unnecessary mistakes, is incredibly naive and superstitious, and doesn't know how to act in proper police conduct.
- Running Gag: A huge chunk of his cases are themed after urban legends and folklore monsters. Lampshaded in the Kamaitachi case where he brags about the "Scooby-Doo" Hoax-type cases he had been assigned to.
Nagano Police
Kansuke Yamato
Inspector Kansuke Yamato

A rough-looking policeman from Nagano. He's currently one of the prime suspects of being Rum of the Black Organization, the other being his direct boss Kuroda.
Mandatory Naming Note: Yamato's name comes from Yamamoto Kansuke (山本勘助), the strategist of Takeda Shingen. This is even pointed out by Conan during the Red Wall Case.
- Big Ol' Eyebrows: To emphasize his badass and serious attitude.
- Embarrassing Nickname: Doesn't like it when his childhood friend Uehara calls him "Kan-chan". He never seems to actually push her to stop, though.
- Eye Scream: Happened to him during a snow avalanche, which also injured his leg.
- Friendly Rivalry: Yamato does have a petty rivalry with fellow police detective Koumei, often competing with him to see who can solve a case first. Despite this, they remain very close friends, and Yamato was even willing to run into a burning mansion to save him at one point.
- Good Scars, Evil Scars: Two on his now useless left eye.
- Handicapped Badass: Have you seen how he fought the Killer Of The Week's thugs in his introductory case? He is almost qualified as One-Man Army if only Conan and Heiji weren't present there. Astounding for a guy who's blind in one eye and needs to walk around with a crutch.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: In contrast to other police inspectors like Megure, Yokomizo, and Yamamura, Yamato is shown to be very serious and hard-boiled. He is often short-tempered and has been known to yell at and intimidate suspects. This aspect of his personality causes him to become quite visibly annoyed with Kogoro's ignorance and Yamamura's goofiness. Still, he does have softer spots, though he does not show them often, and there are hints that he is both aware and accepting of Uehara's affection towards him.
- No Celebrities Were Harmed: Of Yamamoto Kansuke, a famous samurai who also was blind in one eye and crippled in one leg. He even dons a samurai outfit at the end of his introductory case to complete the reference.
- Rugged Scar: Has a "X" scar that took out his left eye due to a snow avalanche.
Yui Uehara
Detective Yui Uehara

Yamato's direct subordinate, as well as a childhood friend.
- 10-Minute Retirement: In a sense. When she's first introduced it's explained that she had retired from the police a year prior and got married, which turned out to actually be part of an investigation she was conducting secretly. She returns to the police force after her husband's murder is solved.
- A Day in the Limelight: She's finally shown working outside of Yamato's shadow in the Red Woman case.
- Nice Girl: Yui is a friendly and considerate person.
- Not So Above It All: In the "Red Woman Murder" Case, she suddenly screams like a schoolgirl seeing a ghost after Conan and Masumi jokingly said there's a serial killer's ghost haunting the nearby woods.
- The Smurfette Principle: Curiously, she is the only female officer shown in the department.
- Tsundere: At times she has textbook tsundere-like reactions to Yamato, like when she blushes and tells him she won't worry for his sake anymore after he takes an almost fatal gambit to capture a killer that has been preying on policemen like them.
- Unlucky Childhood Friend: Implied to be this for Yamato, although he doesn't push her affections away either and he allows her to become his partner after she rejoins the police.
Taka'aki Morofushi
Inspector Taka'aki Morofushi

Yamato's fellow policeman, classmate and rival.
Mandatory Naming Note: Nicknamed "Koumei", after famed strategist Zhuge Liang from Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Events from Zhuge Liang's life are referenced throughout his introductory case.
- Alternate Character Reading: "Taka'aki" can also be read as "Koumei", which is pronounced the same way as the Japanese translation of Zhuge Liang's courtesy name. The English manga refers to him as "Kong Ming" instead.
- Friendly Rivalry: Koumei has a petty rivalry with fellow police detective Yamato, often competing with him to see who can solve a case first. Despite this, they remain very close friends, and Yamato was even willing to run into a burning mansion to save him at one point.
- In-Series Nickname: "Koumei".
- No Celebrities Were Harmed: Of Zhuge Liang. Basically, he's what Zhuge Liang would look like if he's a police detective instead of statesman in modern era. Even his facial features resemble typical media portrayal of Zhuge Liang, just with shorter hair and without a hat.
- Parental Abandonment: Chapter 1020 reveals that his parents died when he was younger, and that his younger brother went to live with relatives in Tokyo while Morofushi remained in Nagano. If Wild Police Story is any indication, his younger brother actually witnessed their murder.
- Reassigned to Antarctica: Was transferred to another department after disobeying orders in order to find Yamato, who had gone missing.
- Red Oni, Blue Oni: The calmer, collected Blue Oni to Yamato's hot-tempered Red Oni.
- The Reveal: In Chapters 1018 - 1021, it is revealed that the Black Organization's Scotch is his younger brother Hiromitsu.
- Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: Disobeyed orders in order to look for Yamato after he went missing, and was punished for it.
- The Stoic: Contrasting to Yamato's hotheadedness, he never for once loses his cool on screen and deals with everything with utmost logic and composure. Heck, he remains calm even when he realizes his beloved younger brother has died!
- Vitriolic Best Buds: Both Yamato and Morofushi are willing to risk their careers and even their lives to help each other. Neither will admit it.
- Write Who You Know: Stated In-Universe to be the inspiration for a Kid Detective story titled ''The Koumei from Class 2-A", written by another childhood friend of Yamato's and Morofushi's. It's Morofushi's favourite book. (It's also implied that the main character's rival was inspired by Yamato.)

Kyoto Police
Fumimaro Ayanokouji
Inspector Fumimaro Ayanokouji

An Inspector and Detective from the Kyoto Police district.
- Canon Immigrant: First, he appeared in two movies (Crossroads in the Ancient Capital and The Raven Chaser). However, he later showed up in the manga itself, as the main inspector during the Kyoto school trip arc.
- Non-Human Sidekick: An incredibly cute chipmunk. Which he takes everywhere.
- Preppy Name: Aya-no-kouji is one of the streets of ancient Kyoto, which is one of the stereotypical patterns of kuge surnames used in Japanese media. This is not helped by the fact that Ayanokouji was indeed a kuge house, and his Royal Blood might hint at actual kuge descent.
- Princely Young Man: He is actually from Royal Blood according to Sato and is Ice King type of this trope.
- Tall, Dark, and Snarky: Is a pretty tall fellow, with dark hair and eyes and a very dry wit.
- Unusual Eyebrows: Very small ones that look a LOT like Japanese mask marks.
Saitama Police

An inspector from the Saitama area.
- Canon Foreigner: Only appears in The Raven Chaser.
- Red Herring: appears extremely briefly but is deliberately given an introduction, presumably to cast suspicion on her due to the movie plot involving a Black Organization mole in the police.
