The Starry-Eyed Cult

     Star 

Starwatcher 'Star' Berserk, Former Vessel of Death and Goddess of Death, the Slaughter Reflected, She of the Bloodied Constellation.

A lamb who was killed due to a prophecy stating that a lamb would kill the Bishops. She later returned to life as a vessel of the Red Crown. She defeated the Four Bishops, and later Narinder, reducing the latter to mortal status. She is now trying to master the Red Crown under Narinder's teaching but soon Haro returns and warns them that the Crowns are seeking new Bearers with Star struggling to find a solution.


  • Adaptational Villainy: Downplayed as the Lamb can be played as a hero or villain but here, Star sacrificed Ratau and didn't even blink unlike the Lamb who tried to save him.
  • The Alcoholic: After Hauthy tried to kill her, she took up drinking for a little bit.
  • Attack on the Heart: Is on the receiving end of this with Deckard cutting out her heart.
  • Baa-Bomb: Not Star herself but one of her 4 signature Tarot Cards is the Bomb.
  • Being God Is Hard: She despises being the New Goddess of Death.
  • Berserk Button: 2.
    • Clauneck is this as she despises him and refuses to go anywhere near him. Narinder and Clauneck both remark that the latter is lucky that Star hasn't decided to kill him yet.
    • When people treat her like a baby for getting upset or try to get her to accept her role as the new Goddess of Death.
  • Blood-Splattered Warrior: When Ratau meets her, Star is covered in blood from killing a lot of Old Faith cultists.
  • Carnivore Confusion: Used to eat plants before becoming the Vessel of the Red Crown.
  • Cosmic Motifs: Her name is Star and everything about her cult is star-themed.
  • The Cynic: She's this.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Her parents were killed by Shamura's followers, she and Deckard were raised by Clauneck who didn't give them any affection, Deckard ran away because they couldn't Star leaving them someday and finally, she was betrayed by Clauneck who stood by and watched as she was dragged away to be executed.
  • Deal with the Devil: Same with her game counterpart. This is reflected in one of her 4 signature Tarot Cards.
  • Deity of Human Origin: Same as the game, though Star is unwilling.
  • Did You Just Romance Cthulhu?: Has romantic feelings for Narinder. They seem to have gone away after learning about her mother.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Several times, she has made bad decisions that have cost her something.
    • Accepting Shamura's deal.
    • Choosing the Funeral doctrine which leaves her unable to use a normal resurrection spell for her followers or Ratau.
    • Using an ancient resurrection ritual using her blood which works at first but results in the Bishops returning.
  • Emotion Suppression: Due to donning the Red Crown, Star has been feeling empty with only a few emotions showing.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: She is horrified by Deckard's behaviour and the hellscape that Anura has become under their rule.
  • Fatal Flaw: Her impulsiveness, her naivety and her Lack of Empathy.
  • Forced Transformation: When she drinks Deckard and Shamura's blood she starts to undergo a transformation with 4 spider limbs sprouting out of her.
  • Forged by the Gods: One of her main weapon types are Godly weapons which were used by the Old Gods for various reasons.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: Same as her game counterpart.
  • Given Name Reveal: Near the end of her and the Bishops' part of Chapter 4, her true name is revealed: Halley.
  • Gladiator Games: Has the Fight Pit doctrine.
  • Greedy Televangelist: Has the Extort Tithes and Ritual of Enrichment doctrines.
  • Heroic BSoD: Goes through one at the start of Arc 2: War.
  • Hot-Blooded: Often jumps headfirst into situations and has a temper. Downplayed as she's a lot more subdued after inheriting the Red Crown.
  • Human Resources: Has the Return to Earth doctrine.
  • Hypocrite: Hates Narinder for using her as a tool but does the same to her allies including Ratau who calls her out for it.
  • I Just Want to Be Free: Star wishes to be free from being the new Goddess of Death due to being forced into the role.
  • IMA Humanitarian: Has the Cannibal doctrine.
  • It's All About Me: Implied due to her stating that she doesn't want to fight when it's not about her.
  • Lack of Empathy: Has no empathy for anyone.
  • The Last of His Kind: Before Deckard reappears, she was assumed to be the last sheep in the Lands of the Old Faith.
  • Mortality Phobia: She doesn't want to die.
  • Oh, Crap!: Several.
    • When Haro appears and spooks her and Narinder.
    • When she learns that the Crowns are returning and have a grudge against her.
    • When she stumbles upon Deckard's "audience" and they try to kill her
    • When she meets the Bishops in the Lingering again.
  • Power Fist: Her third favourite weapon.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: Takes cares of the followers and treats them well to ensure their loyalty. Also has the Inspire and Holy Day doctrines.
  • Suicide by Cop: When Narinder expresses how little he thinks of himself outside his role of Bishop, Star tries to get him to kill her but Narinder doesn't go through it.
  • Tears of Blood: Same as her game counterpart.
  • Torso with a View: Downplayed as her chest injury doesn't go all the way through, showing her internal organs. This causes one of the Followers to vomit when they see the injury.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: Used to be a stable individual before being sacrificed by the Bishops and donning the Red Crown.
  • Villain with Good Publicity: She's a cold and cynical cult leader who never reveals her true colours to her followers who love her.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Gets called out by Ratau for her actions.
  • Would Harm a Senior: Regularly sacrifices the elderly in her cult and sacrificed Ratau to the Fox.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: When she deems a follower has outlived their usefulness, she either sacrifices them or puts them in the next Fight Pit ritual.

     Narinder 

Narinder, Former Bishop and God of Death, The One Who Waits/Waited.

A former Bishop who was imprisoned for his actions and the one who gave Star the Red Crown. After his defeat, he is part of Star's cult and her teacher in mastering the Red Crown.
  • And I Must Scream: Same as his game counterpart.
  • Anti-Hero: Is aggressive and despises becoming a mortal again but is nominally one of the heroes.
  • The Ageless: Same as his game counterpart.
  • Bad with the Bone: He used a pair of necromantic gauntlets in combat.
  • Because Destiny Says So: He notes that the deck of cards that Clauneck has shown him is urging him to finish off Star.
  • Benevolent Boss: Allows Baal to change their gender, and honours the Berserk Clan's creed.
  • Berserk Button: Being reminded of his imprisonment.
  • Big "WHAT?!": Gives this when Star asks if she can use his lap as a pillow.
  • Broken Pedestal: Serves as this to the Fox who used to be one of his followers. Present day, the Fox now is disgusted at Narinder's weakness and feelings for Star. The same goes for his once-loyal attendants Aym and Baal.
  • Brought Down to Normal: Was defeated by the Lamb and brought back to mortal status.
  • Cannot Kill Their Loved Ones: Can't bring himself to kill Star and retake the Red Crown.
  • Cats Are Mean: A Cat God of Death. Downplayed as he's become a lot more tamer.
  • Cool Crown: Same as his game counterpart.
  • Deal with the Devil: Made one with Star and other Berserk Clan Vessels.
  • Deity of Human Origin: Was a regular cat before becoming a Bishop.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Is disturbed at the hellscape Anura has become under Deckard's rule.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Snuck out to the meeting of the Archbishops over the Vessel Project and got caught, revealing his existence to the other Archbishops.
  • Evil vs. Evil: His conflict with his fellow Bishops was this.
  • Eye Motifs: He wore the Red Crown and the Fleece of Death which both had eyes on it.
  • Extra Eyes: Same as his game counterpart. One of his eyes gets temporarily blinded by Shamura before he can reveal who killed Star's mother.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Forgot to ask Star to collect the Crowns.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Same as his game counterpart. Subverted when he became mortal again.
  • Funny Animal: Downplayed but still present.
  • God of the Dead: Look at his title as Bishop.
  • The Grim Reaper: Same as his game counterpart, even wielding a scythe.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Same as his game counterpart.
  • Horsemen of the Apocalypse: Same as his fellow Bishops except for Leshy who represents Chaos.|
  • How the Mighty Have Fallen: The Fox says this word-to-word to Narinder.
  • It's All My Fault: Says this almost word-to-word when Haro and Stolas reveal that the Crowns are returning.
  • Kill the God: Its revealed that he was the one who killed the Archbishops and gave the Crowns to the other Bishops.
  • Last of His Kind: Prior to the resurrection of the Bishops, he was the last living Bishop.
  • Meaningful Name: Same as his game counterpart.
  • Monkey Morality Pose: Same as his game counterpart.
  • Mr. Exposition: Functions like this at times, explaining the Crowns, the Berserk Clan, and the prophecy of him killing the Archbishops
  • Murder Is the Best Solution: He was ready to kill Deckard who tried to kill Star. A bit understandable since Deckard is clearly unstable and murderous now.
  • Neck Lift: Is subjected to this by the Fox.
  • Oh, Crap!: Several
    • When the Fox reveals that he has the Yellow Crown of Famine.
    • When a injured Star returns to the compound.
    • When he sees Aym and Baal wearing the Green Crown(s) of Chaos.
    • When hears that Aym and Baal plan to go after Star.
    • When he returns to the compound and sees a furious Star glaring at him.
    • When the Red Crown goes dormant and Star's compound is burned to the ground.
  • Parental Substitute: A villainous example. In his third POV chapter of the Vessel Project, he mentions that he saw Michael as a father but was unable to say it in direct terms. Its implied that he also saw Ariel as a mother to him.
  • Red Baron: Same as his game counterpart.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Same as his game counterpart.
  • Sadist: Same as his game counterpart. Subverted when he becomes mortal.
  • Satanic Archetype: Same as his game counterpart.
  • Sibling Rivalry: Downplayed as he seems to regret his crippling of the Bishops. Played straight when the Bishops return and he opposes them.
  • Taking the Bullet: He takes several knives in the chest from Deckard to protect Star.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: In his youth, Narinder was a well-adjusted child if a little numb to how Death operates. After thousands of years, he has become bitter and aggressive.
  • Villain Decay: Used to be a powerful God of Death but has been reduced to mortal status.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Is given this by Star, Aym, and Baal.
  • White and Red and Eerie All Over: Same as his game counterpart.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Attempted to do this to Star.

     Followers of the Starry-Eyed Cult 

Nonana

A brown rabbit Follower that seeks out Ratau after Hauthy stabs Star.
  • Funny Animals: Same as the other Followers of the Starry-Eyed Cult.
  • I Owe You My Life: Implied as most of the Followers that the Lamb and by extension Star recruit are about to be sacrificed by Old Faith cultists.
  • Nosy Neighbor: Implied by Star who calls them "a nosy bitch"
  • Undying Loyalty: Same as most of the other Followers. They even seek out Ratau due to Star's stab wound.
  • Woodland Creatures: A rabbit.

Anno and Yarjul

2 Followers. Yarjul is a cow while Anno is a crab.
  • Oblivious Janitor Cut: Averted as they're aware of the leftover blood from the resurrection spell and freak out at the sight of it.
  • Terrestrial Sea Life: Anno is a crab person who's among the Followers of Star.
  • Killed Mid-Sentence: Just as Anno is about to suggest cleaning the leftover blood up, the Bishops reappear and kill them and Anno.
  • Killed Offscreen: Their deaths aren't shown.
  • Oh, Crap!: They both had this reaction when the Bishops return.
  • Villain Has a Point: Not that she is a villain but Yarjul raises a good question of Star losing interest in them.

The Bishops of the Old Faith

The former rulers of the Old Faith who seek to retake their Crowns.

     Shamura 

Shamura, Former Bishop and God of War and Knowledge.

A spider that was one of the four Bishops before their death and was their de-facto leader. Was revived by Star's resurrection spell, though it did not heal their injuries and led the other Bishops in murdering Star's followers.
  • Adaptational Relationship Overhaul: In the game, Shamura was just of the Four Bishops that the Lamb had to kill. In the webcomic, Star was a devout follower of Shamura before being sacrificed as part of the prophecy.
  • Armour-Piercing Question: Delivers one to Star in the Lingering about the latter's trust to Narinder. They also question the Death sect as a whole after Narinder tries to defend them.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Analyses the other Vessels and informs Raziel of their weaknesses.
  • Back from the Dead: Same as the other Bishops.
  • Berserk Button: Never compare them to or mention Archbishop Raziel.
  • Bizarre Alien Senses: Can sense if someone is going through their archives.
  • Body Horror: Same as their game counterpart.
  • Broken Pedestal: Star was one of her most devout followers until they sacrificed her to prevent the One Who Waits' return.
  • The Chessmaster: They arranged for Star and Deckard to be put under Clauneck's care and for one of them to be the Lamb of prophecy. They would've prefered for Deckard to be the Lamb of prophecy but things got out of hand.
  • Children as Pawns: They along with the other Bishops were manipulated by the Archbishops to fight their wars for them. Out of all the Bishops, they took this the hardest and refused to be a puppet again.
  • The Comically Serious: Out of the young Bishops selected to be Vessels for the Archbishops, they are the most serious about the task.
  • Condescending Compassion: Acts like a parent to Star but it's clear that they're just doing this to manipulate her.
  • Cosmic Motifs: The moon is heavily associated with them.
  • Create Your Own Villain: Same as their game counterpart.
  • Deal with the Devil: Makes one with Star in the Lingering.
  • Deity of Human Origin: Same as the other Bishops.
  • Dented Iron: Same as their game counterpart.
  • Even Bad Men Love Their Mamas: Loved their mother Hecate much and considered her the 2nd most important person in their life.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Deeply cares for their siblings. Downplayed as they're willing to hurt Narinder and risk their siblings' lives in fighting the Usurpers. Whether this will result in the other Bishops turning on them or not remains to be seen. In their past, they considered their teacher and mother Hecate an important figure in their life and loved them.
  • Fallen Hero: They along with the other Bishops overthrew the Archbishops to make the Lands of the Old Faith a better place. Unfortunately, the will of the Crowns overpowered them and they're just as worse as Raziel was.
  • Horsemen of the Apocalypse: Same as their game counterpart.
  • Hypocrite: 2 examples.
    • They orchestrated the murder of the entire sheep race but sees Star as a murderer.
    • They refuse to accept dying and fight back against it despite them and the other Bishops hammering that lesson into Narinder.
  • Hypocrisy Nod: They remark that they're well aware of the pot calling the kettle when they meet Star again in the Lingering.
  • Insufferable Genius: Was this in their youth.
  • In the Hood: In their first scene in the Vessel Project, they are introduced wearing a hood. 7 years after the meeting of the Archbishops, they now wear a hood as part of their outfit.
  • Mad Oracle: Same as their game counterpart.
  • Manipulative Bastard: They manipulate Star effortlessly throughout the story into doing their bidding.
  • Monkey Morality Pose: Same as their game counterpart.
  • Never My Fault: Places the blame for the sheep genocide on Narinder's shoulders solely.
  • Pun: Makes a joke about Narinder being tongue-tied when they first meet him.
  • Purple Is Powerful: They have purple skin, clothes, and wear the Purple Crown of War and Knowledge and were a God of War and Knowledge.
  • Sanity Slippage: Same as their game counterpart.
  • Scarf of Asskicking: Wore a scarf while they're still mortal and a servant of the Archbishop of War, Raziel.
  • Seers: Same as their game counterpart.
  • Seize Them!: Commands their spider attendants to do so to Star.
  • Sympathy for the Hero: Same as their game counterpart. Downplayed as its part of their manipulation of Star.

     Leshy 

Leshy, Former Bishop and God of Chaos.

A caterpillar that was one of the Four Bishops before his death. Was revived by Star's resurrection spell, though it did not heal his injuries. He then participated in the mass-murder of Star's following.

     Heket 

Heket, Former Bishop and Goddess of Famine

A frog that was one of the Four Bishops before her death. Was revived by Star's resurrection spell, though it did not heal her injuries. She then participated in the mass-murder of Star's following.
  • Big Sister Instinct: Cares deeply about Narinder even after his betrayal and reassures Leshy when Star appears in the Lingering. This extends to before they became Bishops where she comforts Narinder after saying that Michael is wrong about sacrifice and the latter is reduced to tears over it.
  • The Butcher: Wielded a butcher knife as a mortal.
  • Deity of Human Origin: Same as the other Bishops.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Deeply cares for all her siblings including Narinder even after his betrayal.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Disagrees with Shamura over their actions and considers them a hypocrite for refusing to accept death.
  • Extra Eyes: Has 2 eyes more than normal.
  • Fallen Hero: Same as the other Bishops who swore to do better than the Archbishops.
  • Genki Girl: She was a sweet and excitable girl in her mortal life.
  • Horsemen of the Apocalypse: Same as her game counterpart.
  • Innocently Insensitive: During her first meeting with Narinder when he speaks about Michael's views about sacrifice, Heket says that Michael's wrong with the other Vessels agreeing which upsets Narinder.
  • Little What: Says this when she learns the Crowns have returned.
  • Meaningful Name: Same as her game counterpart.
  • Monkey Morality Pose: Same as her game counterpart.
  • The Nicknamer: Gave nicknames to people in her youth.
  • Never My Fault: Places the blame for the sheep genocide on Narinder's shoulders.
  • Slashed Throat: Same as her game counterpart.
  • The Smurfette Principle: Same as her game counterpart.
  • Supreme Chef: Is a very good chef.
  • Team Chef: The chef of the Bishops.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: Used to be an innocent and sociable child before being taken on as a Vessel of Phaunel and becoming a Bishop.

     Kallamar 

Kallamar, Former Bishop and God of Pestilence.

A squid that was one of the Four Bishops before his death. Was revived by Star's resurrection spell, though it did not heal his injuries. He then participated in the mass-murder of Star's following.
  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: Its mentioned by Shamura that they still have it against Kallamar for telling Star to spare him but kill Shamura instead.
  • Dirty Coward: Same as his game counterpart.
  • Ear Ache: Same as his game counterpart.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Cares for his siblings despite his cowardice. In his past as a mortal, he deeply cared for his family and was upset to learn that he would be unable to visit them so he could focus on his Vessel training.
  • Eye Scream: Has a scar running down the right side of his head and across his eye but doesn't seem to be blind.
  • Horsemen of the Apocalypse: Same as his game counterpart.
  • Monkey Morality Pose: Same as his game counterpart.
  • Multi-Armed and Dangerous: Downplayed as he's less powerful than he was before.
  • Nervous Wreck: In his youth, he was an easily frightened boy who was fearful of Lord Verchiel. Justified as Verchiel has been known to have a violent temper and punish people harshly like with Lapis
  • Never My Fault: Same as his game counterpart.
  • Punny Name: Same as his game counterpart.

The Knucklebones Gang

     Ratau 

Ratau, Former Vessel of Death.

A former vessel of Narinder. He acted as Star's mentor.
  • Actual Pacifist: Refuses to fight.
  • Back from the Dead: He is resurrected by Star.
  • Bearer of Bad News: Delivers the news about the Bishops returning to Shrumy and Ratoo.
  • Big"What": His reaction when he learns that Star used her blood in the resurrection spell. Also his reaction when Shrumy suggests going after the Fox to find out where Stolas and Ratoo's heart is.
  • Came Back Wrong: He explains that using blood of a Crown Bearer is a bad idea in resurrection spell and he's lucky that he didn't come back as a zombie with two heads or something like that.
  • Cowardly Lion: Is considered a coward by many characters but he's willing to deal with the Fox to get Ratoo's heart back and find out where Stolas is.
  • Disappointed in You: Says this to Star when he gets resurrected.
  • Eye Scream: He is blinded in one eye. A side-effect from resurrecting Ratoo after he got his heart torn out by the Fox
  • Hero of Another Story: Same as his game counterpart.
  • Inadequate Inherior: The Fox and Narinder consider him this.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: Knows when to fight and when to run.
  • Mentor Archetype: Same as his game counterpart.
  • Mysterious Past: Zigzagged as while some bits and pieces about his life as a Vessel are revealed, his entire history remains unknown.
  • Oh, Crap!: Some examples.
    • When he finds Aym on his roof.
    • When the Fox confronts him in Heket's temple.
    • When he, Narinder, and Star return to find Star's compound razed to the ground with all the Followers dead.
  • Parental Substitute: Sees Star as a daughter.

  • So Proud of You: Says this to Star when talking about how she was smart enough to know to run away from a fight. This triggers her trauma over Clauneck's parenting skills.

  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Star fed him to the Fox after he finished teaching her.

     Shrumy 

Shurmy

One of Ratau's friends and former Followers.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Appears in bottom of a bottle before Star goes to Silk Cradle.
  • Adaptational Job Change: In the game, they're implied to be a follower of Shamura due to their purple clothing. In the Usurper AU comics, they were a follower of Ratau.
  • Ascended Extra: Becomes a central character in the Usurper AU.
  • Bullying the Dragon: Same as their game counterpart.
    • Also holds Beryl who is the Fox's daughter which Ratau calls them out on.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Even he's smart enough to know that fighting Star is suicide.
  • Good Is Not Nice: Is nominally one of the good guys but is willing to hold Beryl hostage to gain leverage over [[spoilers: the Fox]]
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Is rude and snooty to Star but deeply cares about their friends. When Ratau goes missing, they go out, looking for him.
  • Old Friend: Shrumy explains they and Ratau were friends for many years and they were the first to agree in helping with Ratau when he was a vessel.
  • Retired Monster: Like the rest of the Knucklebones Gang, they were part of Ratau's cult and helped deal with heretics.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: Likes to swear a lot.
  • Stunned Silence: Goes silent when they learn that Ratau died.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Gives Ratau hell for going missing until they learns that Ratau died.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: Says this when they learn that the Bishops have returned.

     Klunko and Bop 

Klunko and Bop

A crow and worm who are 2 of Ratau's friends and former Followers.
  • An Arm And An Leg: Same as his game counterpart.
  • Berserk Button: Every time, Flinky makes a joke about having eaten Bop, Klunko loses it at them.
  • Bird Vs Snake: Has beef with Flinky over the latter's jokes about eating Bop.
  • Brick Joke: Bop goes missing when the gang make their way to the Lighthouse. After getting back Ratoo's heart Bop is found by Klunko.
  • Dare to Be Badass: When Beryl activates her powers, he charges into the thick of it, wielding Shrumy's sword.
  • The Gambling Addict: Same as his game counterpart.
  • Handicapped Badass: Briefly, he wields a sword and cuts down one of the tentacles summoned by Beryl's magic, showing some skill with it.
  • Major Injury Underreaction: Same as his game counterpart.
  • Nice Guy: Tries to be but Flinky always manages to set him off.
  • Retired Monster: Like the rest of the Knucklebones Gang, he was part of Ratau's cult and helped deal with heretics.

     Flinky 

Flinky

A snake who is one of Ratau's friends and former Followers.
  • Adaptational Job Change: In the game, he is implied to be a ex-follower of Shamura due to wearing purple clothes. In the Usurper AU, he is a former follower of Ratau.
  • Bird Vs Snake: Klunko has beef with him over the latter's jokes about eating Bop.
  • The Gadfly: Frequently jokes about eating Bop which sets off Klunko.
  • Sssssnake Talk: Same as his game counterpart.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Is called out for biting Beryl by Ratau.

The Owls

     Haro 

Haro, God of Life.

A mysterious owl and bearer of the White Crown. They are the one to warn Star and Narinder of the Crowns returning and introduce Stolas to them.
  • Bearer of Bad News: Delivers the news that the Crowns are returning.
  • Broken Pedestal: Is one to Eligos and possibly Stolas.
  • Bystander Syndrome: Has always watched the world, never interfering which Michael calls them out for, stating that all Haro has done is watch him suffer without helping him.
  • Exorcist Head: Does this to look at the bushes where Stolas is hiding, freaking out Star.
  • I Warned You: Apparently, some time after the Archbishops were killed, they warned the Bishops that they would repeat the mistakes of the Archbishops. Given the fact that the Old Faith hasn't changed much, Haro was right.
  • Mr. Exposition: Same as their game counterpart.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Usually, they're calm and patient but during their argument with Michael, they're very pissed off.
  • The Owl-Knowing One: Downplayed as they split their knowledge amongst their various children who all have different kinds of knowledge.
  • The Spook: Downplayed as some of their history gets explained.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Gives this to Michael during their argument.
  • Stealth Hi/Bye: Pulls this regularly which annoys Star.

     Stolas 

Stolas, Son of Haro.

One of Haro's children who holds their memories and knowledge of the Crowns. Haro introduces him to Star and Narinder and has him aid in confronting the Usurpers if they come after Star. During a confrontation with the Fox, he was sent to Silk Cradle and rescued by Monch and was introduced to his siblings.
  • Big "WHAT?!": Says this when Narinder tells him that the Fox has the Yellow Crown.
  • Clone Angst: Has an existential crisis after Zagan reveals that he is not the first Stolas to be created.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: Doesn't think highly of themselves.
  • Legacy Character: He is revealed to be the second Owl who was named Stolas.
  • Mr. Exposition: Explains the Crowns and their process in selecting new bearers.
  • Nervous Wreck: Is a really anxious guy.
  • Oh, Crap!: Several.
    • When he encounters the Fox for the first time
    • When he learns that Fox has the Yellow Crown.
    • When Narinder leaves without explaining where he is going.
    • When Star wakes up and she tells him that she met the former Bishops in the Lingering.
    • When he gets some of Star's blood on him from the resurrection spell.
    • When he sees the hellscape that Anura has become under Deckard's rule.
    • When he wakes up and realises that he's in the Silk Cradle, the most dangerous territory in the Lands of the Old Faith.

  • The Smart Guy: To Star and Narinder who he helps during the return of the Crowns.
  • Younger Than They Look: Is 22 years old physically but has only been around for 2 years.
  • You Shall Not Pass!: Says this almost word-to-word to the Fox at Heket's temple.

     Eligos 

Eligos, Daughter of Haro.

One of Haro's children. She's the first of Haro's children that Stolas meets. She was the last Owl created before Stolas. She has a strong grudge against Haro for seemingly abandoning them.

     Zagan 

Zagan, Child of Haro.

One of Haro's children. They contain Haro's memories of Michael. Was the second Owl created by Haro.
  • Big Brother Mentor: Is said to be a mentor figure to their siblings.
  • Ear Ache: Has a notch on their right ear.
  • The Eeyore: Is largely apathetic and pessimistic to most things. Downplayed as they care about their siblings.
  • Mr. Exposition: Reveals information about Stolas 1 who died at the claws of the Fox, the reason behind the creations of the Owl Siblings and Archbishop Michael being the first bearer of the Red Crown.
  • Theme Naming: Same as the other Owls, they're named after a member of the Ars Goetia.
  • Older Than They Look: Is 29 years old physically but is actually a few thousand years old.

     Marbas 

Marbas, Son of Haro.

One of Haro's children who fancies himself a performer.

     Decarabia 

Decarabia, First Daughter of Haro.

The first child of Haro. Despite being older than the others, she's treated as a younger sister.

     Seir 

Seir, Child of Haro.

One of Haro's children. They are the twin of Stolas 1 and disappeared during the Fox's attack. Revealed to be captured by him and brought back to Lapis.

The Usurpers

     Deckard Berserk 

Deckard/Azazel, God of Famine.

Star's twin sibling. A few years before the culling, they ran away and in the time before their reunion with Star, they became insane, following an eat or be eaten mentality. Currently, they seek to remove the Yellow Crown from their head.
  • Alone with the Psycho: Their encounter with Star after years of being separated ends up becoming this.
  • And Show It to You: Carves out Star's heart.
  • Arc Villain: Of the Famine Arc.
  • The Bard: Is a musician and likes to play the lute.
  • Cain and Abel: Is the Cain to Star's Abel, trying to kill her on two occasions.
  • Court Jester: Their outfit reminds one of a jester.
  • Devious Daggers: Has several as their favourite weapon and primary way of convincing people they're not a lamb.
  • Dirty Coward: Part of their whimpering child act.
  • Enemy Mine: Decides to work with Shamura to wipe out the Usurpers and remove the Yellow Crown from their head.
  • Eye Colour Change: In the years of being separated from Star, their eyes changed from purple to red.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: Was a regular lamb before they separated from Star. Their mind degraded and they became a violent and murderous psychopath who now wears the Yellow Crown.
  • I'm a Humanitarian: Is a cannibal who tries to eat Star's heart.
  • Loving a Shadow: Claims to care about Star but only when she isn't becoming what Deckard despises.
  • Red Is Violent: They wear red clothing and are extremely violent.
  • Sanity Slippage: During their time of living alone, they became insane and violent.
  • Slasher Smile: Does this several times.

Narinder's former attendants who now hold the Green Crown which has divided itself into 2.

     Sozo 

Sozo, God of Pestilence

A devout lover of Menticide Mushrooms who ended up dying from overdosing. His body soon became a puppet to the mushroom rooted in his head.

     Monch 

Monch, God of War and Knowledge.

A mysterious moth who seeks enlightenment. Current wielder of the Purple Crown.
  • Moth Menace: Subverted. Despite being the new God of War and Knowledge, Monch has no interest in waging war or seeking revenge on Star.
  • Nice Guy: Is very friendly and amicable.
  • Purple Is Powerful: Wields the Purple Crown of War and Knowledge.
  • Seeker Archetype: Is a seeker of hidden knowledge.
  • Token Good Teammate: Out of all the Usurpers, he doesn't seek vengeance against the Red Crown or doesn't use his newfound position to rule as a tyrant.

     Michael 

Michael, Former Archbishop and God of Death

An albino flamingo who wore the Red Crown before his demise. When Narinder lost his family to Zuriel's followers, he took him in. Revealed to be the first Red Crown wearer by Zagan.

     Zuriel 

Zuriel, Former Archbishop and Goddess of Chaos.

A lyrebird who wore the Green Crown before her demise.

     Phanuel 

Phanuel, Former Archbishop and God of Famine.

A pelican that wore the Yellow Crown before his demise.
  • Blood from the Mouth: During Narinder's recount of the prophecy, Phanuel is shown with blood coming out of his beak.
  • Boring, but Practical: Uses a castle as his temple because it's easier than building a new temple.
  • Brutal Honesty: Heket notes that he is the not the type to beat around the bush.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Same as Michael, they're both tired of Raziel's schemes but can't resist the opportunity to mock her or her schemes.
  • Divine Birds: He's a pelican who wore the Yellow Crown.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Seemingly deeply cares for his children and shouts for a medic when Cyril gets stabbed during training.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Considers Michael dangerous and considers intervening to protect Narinder if things get too bad.
  • Feathered Fiend: Same as the other Archbishops.
  • Hellish Pupils: Same as the other Archbishops.
  • Really Gets Around: Has many consorts. As a result, he has had a lot of children that have come and gone.
  • Seen It All: Has seen a lot over the period of time he's been an Archbishop.

     Verchiel 

Verchiel, Former Archbishop and God of Pestilence.

A peacock that wore the Blue Crown before his demise.
  • Attention Whore: Took the Blue Crown because he wanted the status and power.
  • Berserk Button: He attacks Michael when the latter tells him that he's leading Anchordeep to ruin. He also doesn't like being corrected or others telling him what to do.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: He's a fan of this. Whether it be attacking his fellow Archbishop for stating the truth or having his followers rip out the tongues of those who speak against them.
  • Divine Birds: He's a peacock that wore the Blue Crown.
  • Feathered Fiend: Same as the other Archbishops.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: All the other Archbishops seem to have varying levels of contempt and hatred for him.
  • Hellish Pupils: Same as the other Archbishops.
  • Hypocrite: States that he believes that nicknames obscure the beauty of one's full name yet gives his followers nicknames.
  • The Nicknamer: Gives everyone in his order nicknames based off a gem.
  • Off with His Head!: He seems to have died this way in images related to his death.
  • Proud Peacock: Is vain and proud of himself.

     Raziel 

Raziel, Former Archbishop and Goddess of War and Knowledge.

The previous wearer of the Purple Crown before her demise.

The Berserk Clan

     In General 
A clan of sheep who are devoted followers of Narinder. Throughout their existence, they have attempted to perform their master's work with more than a few becoming his personal Vessel.
  • Deal with the Devil: Members of the Berserk Clan were often chosen to become Vessels by Narinder.
  • Dwindling Party: Throughout their existence, their numbers have significantly reduced due to the Bishops hunting them or trying to fulfill their master's mission. By the time of the story, there's only 2 confirmed Berserk Clan members still alive: Star and Deckard.

     Ariel Berserk 

Ariel Berserk, Acolyte of Death.

A sheep who's part of the Death Sect. She's close to Michael and Narinder.

The Old Faith Reborn

Cult of the Bishops of the Old Faith, founded after the fall of the Starry-Eyed Cult.
     Akiko 
Follower of Leshy in the Old Faith Reborn and Narinder's self-proclaimed "bestest friend".


  • In One Ear, Out The Other: While Narinder complains about Akiko, Akiko is shown with an arrow going through both of her ears, labeled "Not Listening".
  • Foil: Serves as this to Narinder with her cheerful attitude and general airheadedness.
