The Eight Flames

The Eight Flames Symbol

     In General

The Eight Flames are an assassin organization in The Oasis that worked under V, a former Brother of The Aeons. They assassins (many which have been trained since childhood) are hired and paid to kill whoever the contractor asks for. To assist in these missions, each Flame is given an animal companion that can become stronger at their master’s beck and call.

When V is killed, Hemlock decides to reform The Eight Flames to become a mercenary group that does off-the-books jobs for marines and most others who pay them. They also got themselves a new base in a gigantic ship compared to a floating naval base.

  • Animal Companion: Each Flame in both iterations have an animal/animals they take care of and use in combat.
    • When Hemlock takes over the Eight Flames, due to not having access to V’s technology the New Eight Flames animal companions are now mostly mundane animals in supporting roles.
  • The Beastmaster: Their animal companions are very loyal to their masters and many fight alongside their master with great efficiency.
  • Brought Down to Normal: Yaki, Blaze, the robotic chicken and Hemlock’s snakes lost their special abilities with the press of one of V’s buttons.
  • Child Soldiers: Many of the old Eight Flames have been training since they were children. Hemlock puts an end to it once she becomes leader, making sure Taurus doesn’t become a Flame until he’s older.
  • Cool Ship: The New Eight Flames bought a new gigantic ship with eight towers and big enough to be able to allow other ships to dock within it.
  • Discard and Draw: The new crew lost access to their enhanced animals but at least 5 of the Flames now have Devil Fruits.
  • The Dreaded: Those who know of the Flames greatly fear them. When Ragnar showed the candle he picked up to Bullet, she immediately panics.
    • This becomes less so once Hemlock takes the reins. They became more like mercenaries and many of their new recruits are Good Samaritans.
  • Hired Guns: The New Eight Flames work various missions from whomever pays best. From Marines to the DLP to even volunteering at zoos.
  • Mad Scientist Laboratory: V’s Eight Flame base was full of advanced technology and unethical experiments.
  • Murder, Inc.: V’s Eight Flames will assassinate anyone if the price is right. Hemlock’s Eight Flames less so, but if they need to (or are paid enough) they will.
  • Oddly Small Organization: The organization only comprises of eight main members, not counting any other possible workers.
  • Orphanage of Love: The crew open an orphanage for children in the epilogue.
  • Professional Killer: Every Eight Flame knows how to fight and kill as if it were an art form. Downplayed a bit with the newer Eight Flames, but over half of the New Flames have a Devil Fruit.
  • Resignations Not Accepted: In V’s Flames, nobody quits the Flames. Those who try to leave are hunted down and killed in front of him.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: The New Eight Flames under Hemlock are much more benevolent and thus more well respected by the world at large.
  • Tracking Device: Each Flame has a candle necklace. V’s Eight Flames also had tracking devices within their candles. Hemlock got rid of that seeing that the tracking devices led the Devil’s Luck Pirates to their old base.
  • You Kill It, You Bought It: If somebody kills an Eight Flame, their killer becomes the next flame. Those who get their candles this way tend not to last very long. Hemlock ends this tradition soon after becoming the Eighth Flame.

     1st Flame Little Timmy
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/littletimmy_5.jpg
Poor Little Timmy

A young boy from Gallows Island that the crew meets in episode 1. Him having a spoon result in him being put to death for possessing one. Luckily, Hemlock rescued him. Unluckily, V turned him into a cyborg in constant pain. He then became The First Flame.

Little Timmy’s animal companion is a robotic chicken that hatches from an egg.

  • Arm Cannon: He’s equipped with an arm cannon to blast foes.
  • Cosmic Plaything: Little Timmy’s life was miserable.
    • He was born on a small island where executions are something to be celebrated (including by the one put to death).
    • He was painfully transformed into a cyborg where his entire existence is pain.
    • During the fight against V, he dies painfully by immolation by one of V’s golems.
  • Cyborg: V modified his body with cybernetic implants. This was extremely painful. Worse still, V gave him more nerve endings to make everything even more painful.
  • Felony Misdemeanor: Was going to be put to death over having a SPOON!
  • Harmful to Minors: A kid his age should NEVER have to go through what he’s been through.
  • Man on Fire: Is burned to death by V’s fire golem. All that’s left is ashes.
  • The Medic: Possessed a serum in his body that can heal others. Naturally for V, it hurt for him to use.
  • Public Execution: He was born and raised on Gallows Island, where executions for even the slightest things were the norm. He was going to be publicly hanged for the possession of a spoon (which was foretold to be the mayor’s cause of death).
  • Revenge: Wants to get back at V for turning him into a cyborg. He does not live long enough to see him die sadly.
  • Security Blanket: He keeps his spoon with him even as a Cyborg. The spoon is now all that is left of him.
  • Shout-Out: His animal companion is a Robot Chicken, just like the [adult swim] show.
  • Unwilling Roboticisation: Little Timmy did not consent at all to any of the process of becoming a cyborg.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: His robotic chicken never had a chance to show what it could do before V disabled all the animal companions.

     2nd Flame Tako
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/takoyaki.jpg
Not Steve

The one known as Tako is a mysterious man who delights in killing. Through violent means, he was inducted into becoming The Second Flame.

Tako’s animal companion is Yaki, an cute tiny octopus who can become much larger if Tako desires him to.

  • Affably Evil: Shows some courtesy towards the crew and is willing to let bygones be bygones with them once they reach Tarako prison. Though his violent nature brings him into a fight with the crew anyways.
  • Ax-Crazy: Even by Eight Flames standards he is extremely violent. Not being able to find his mark drives him into such a violent fit, he attacks the crew out of a manic whim.
  • Creepy Souvenir: He had a book containing pieces of skin that he collected from his victims. Naturally, the crew did not take that with them.
  • The Dreaded: He can emit an aura of fear and those who knew about him find him to be unsettling at best.
  • Even Evil Can Be Loved: Even after his death, Yaki waited in Tako’s room crying for its master to come back. Luckily Ragnar took Yaki in and he joined the crew.
  • Eyes Out of Sight: His hair covers his eyes and are ever seen.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: None of the Flames we know of had a good opinion of him. Not because he was weak or anything, but because he creeped them out.
  • Go Out with a Smile: He died smiling. Not in a Will of D way though (supposedly). He was just a psycho content with dying.
  • In-Series Nickname: Once the crew is told his name is Not Steve, they just start calling him Not Steve. Even after Hemlock gives them his name, they still refer to him as that.
  • Kraken and Leviathan: His octopus companion Yaki can become much bigger in order to battle and kill. Yaki’s tentacles are powerful enough to pierce through humans and snap people’s necks without issue.
  • Meaningful Name: Tako and Yaki’s name make the word Takoyaki.
  • The Mole: Infiltrated the Steam Pipe Pirates to get to Tarako Kingdom.
  • Pet the Dog: He seemed to at least cared for Yaki, not minding seeing the little octopus be happy and fed. Yaki also grieved for its master after its death, meaning they had at least had some kind of emotional bond.
  • Serial Killer: Was implied to be one before he became a Flame. He even killed the previous Second Flame and took their Candle.
  • Slasher Smile: Rarely is seen without one. It just gets wider when he starts getting violent.
  • Wake-Up Call Boss: He was the first Flame the Devil’s Luck Pirates encountered and was one of their first foes with a good chance of killing a player character.

     3rd Flame Cleo
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/character_cleo_halfbody.png
Rawr x3

The Third Flame Cleo is an extremely energetic, cat-like woman who talks a lot. She is considered quite unbearable to most people around her. Though her boyfriend Blake thinks she’s fun to be around.

Her animal companion is Patty, a cat who can become a gigantic Tiger when it chooses to.

  • Affably Evil: Tries to be friendly with other people but tends to come across as pushy or annoying to most people. She’s also an assassin who is desensitized to killing.
  • Animal-Eared Headband: Has a cat ear headband on her head. That is if they aren’t actual ears.
  • Ax-Crazy: Takes pride in being an assassin and claimed that she kills the ones she loves most.
  • Boom, Headshot!: Is messily shot in the head by Bullet.
  • Cat Girl: Her feline features gives her this appearance. She also meows occasionally.
  • The Ditz: She is oblivious to many social cues and doesn’t even realize that Duros tried to push her off the boat.
  • Dreadful Musician: She is a very poor singer. She’s known to practice early in the morning as well.
  • Faux Paw: Has a habit of making paw motions like a cat.
  • Foil: Is not too different from Pearl (as much as the MADG would deny it). Even being around the same age.
    • Both of them were trained at an early age to become killing machines. Pearl resisted, Cleo didn’t/couldn’t.
    • They specialize in quickly attacking with their claws to defeat their foes.
    • Cleo has a cat that turns into a tiger while Pearl is a Dragon Zoan.
  • Hard-Drinking Party Girl: She and Blake were drinking buddies as well.
  • Keet: Is much too hyperactive for most of the DLP.
  • Lack of Empathy: She’s very nonchalant about being a killer and taking lives. She also has difficulty emotionally connecting with most people other than Blake.
    • She’s also willing to take advantage of Louis’s attraction to her to get him to heal her. And when he does and it doesn’t do all that much, she calls him useless and hits him.
  • Little Bit Beastly: If her cat ears aren’t a headband along with her pronounced fangs and cat-like eyes along with retractable claws. Whether they would be from genetic modification or Mink Heritage who knows.
  • The Lost Lenore: Cleo’s death drives Blake off the deep end and into Blueblood’s hands.
  • Men Like Dogs, Women Like Cats: Blake is the man who enjoys dogs while Cleo is the woman who’s a cat person.
  • Motor Mouth: Does not know when to quit talking.
  • Official Couple: After her death, it was confirmed that she and Blake were dating.
  • Panthera Awesome: Her cat Patty can transform into a giant Tiger to aid her in battle.
  • Psychopathic Manchild: She acts much younger than she really is and I’d more than willing to commit acts of violence. She even calls death “go night-night”.
  • Punny Name: Her name and her cat Patty’s name makes Cleopatra.
  • Sweet Tooth: Her favorite food is cotton candy.
  • Tyke Bomb: Was trained to be an assassin from a young age.
  • Wolverine Claws: Has retractable claws like a cat to slice her foes.

5th Flame Blake (Warning: Major Spoilers)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/blakecharacter_0.png
The coolest guy William knows
Click here to see The Black Knight

Blake is the Fifth Flame. He loves food, fighting and dogs. He’s an all around cool guy and is super nice to those he deems as friends. He especially loves his girlfriend Cleo and his Dog Blake, who can turn into a large fire hound.

Though when he learns that Cleo was killed by Bullet and his so-called friends just watched, he quits the Eight Flames and is scouted by Jester to become one of Blue Blood’s Commanders. As a commander, he was given the Flame Flame Fruit, the blue blood drug and the title of The Black Knight.

  • Addled Addict: Becomes addicted to blue blood and is now a shell of his former self.
  • Ax-Crazy: After Cleo’s death, he beats Bullet inches from death and only gets worse as the Black Knight.
  • The Berserker: After he eats the Flame Flame Fruit and takes blue blood, all he focuses on is to destroy and burn his foes to ashes.
  • Black Knight: He dons the title of The Black Knight as a Commander of Blue Blood. He also gets a set of armor fitting for his new identity.
  • Blood Knight: Greatly enjoys a good fight. As The Black Knight, it becomes all he’s good for.
  • Chain Pain: Uses a flaming chain as one of his primary weapons. He keeps it as The Black Knight.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Loses much of his will after learning that not only was Cleo killed, he worked alongside those responsible, none of them mourned her (even badmouthing her) and they all kept it hidden from him.
  • Discard and Draw: His dog Blaze loses its special abilities thanks to V. Blake later gains the Flame Flame Fruit from Blue Blood to become so much deadlier.
  • The Ditz: Isn’t all that smart, just like Cleo. Blue Blood only cared for his power, his mind mattering little.
  • Doomed by Canon: Blake has the same Devil Fruit as Portgas D. Ace. He is doomed to eventually die so Ace can eat the Flame Flame Fruit.
  • Face–Heel Turn: Becomes an ally to the DLP, but once he realizes the truth about Cleo’s death, he leaves and joins Blue Blood for a chance at “true power”.
  • Feral Villain: As the Black Knight, he is nearly completely fixated on violence and vengeance to the point of insanity.
  • Fiery Redhead: Has red hair and is very passionate and emotional. Though he’s more subdued as The Black Knight, he voice resonates with pure fury when talking with the crew.
  • Foil: As Cleo is to Pearl, Blake is to Cyril.
    • Blake begins the story as a muscular, experienced warrior. Cyril begins as a low-ranked marine who is pushed around by those stronger than him.
    • Blake is an assassin who loves a good scrap while Cyril prefers more peaceful methods and hates unnecessary killing.
    • Cyril eats a water logia while Blake later gains a fire one.
    • Blake is in a relationship with Cleo, who had a cat/tiger motif. Cyril has a huge crush on Pearl, who is an actual Dragon Zoan.
    • Both of them were hurt by the crew’s indirect actions. Blake lost his girlfriend and Cyril lost his arm. Cyril later forgives them while Blake seeks vengeance.
  • Hellhound: His animal companion is a dog named Blaze that can turn into a big, fiery dog if it chooses to.
  • Hot-Blooded: Tends to act before thinking.
  • Intangibility: Averted despite being a Logia, though he takes half damage from non-Haki attacks, he has yet to learn how to truly make attacks go right through him. Justified since he got his powers very recently.
  • Jumping Off the Slippery Slope: Careened off it once he learns of his girlfriend’s death and Jester introduces him to Blue Blood.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Everyone else around him (from William to Hemlock) knew that Bullet killed Cleo and didn’t tell him. Once he learned the truth, he was furious with both the Devil’s Luck Pirates and The Eight Flames.
  • Men Like Dogs, Women Like Cats: Blake is the dog person to Cleo’s cats.
  • Mr. Fanservice: He is quite the hunk with nice muscles and slick hair. After blue blood withdrawals, not so much now.
  • My Greatest Failure: He is devastated that he couldn’t protect Cleo, which was why he became strong in the first place.
  • Nice Guy: Though a bit of a hothead, Blake is an easygoing, friendly guy who tries to see the best in those around him. Even once he realized the truth of Cleo’s death, Blake refrains from attacking the DLP before leaving for The Throne. But once he takes the identity of The Black Knight, this trait disappears completely.
  • Playing with Fire: After eating the Flame Flame Fruit, he gains many Fire-based abilities. He mostly uses this to hurl fireballs, explode into flames and incinerate all in his path.
  • Sanity Slippage: Starts as a friendly fella, then an angry man with self-restraint, then as The Black Knight begins as a stoic man who explains why he hates the crew, then a near feral man trying his damndest to kill at least one DLP member and finally a hollow shell of himself begging for blue blood.
  • Shipper on Deck: From how The Black Knight mockingly brought up Cyril to Pearl before trying to strike her down, Blake may have seen the two as a possible item.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Once Blake becomes The Black Knight, he becomes consumed with vengeance and kills many people without any care or remorse.
  • Totally Radical: Speaks like a cool 90’s dude. He also skateboards and his Marine disguise was named Turnpipe. He drops this after becoming the Black Knight.
  • Walking Spoiler: It’s hard to talk about him without giving away that Blake is the Black Knight with the Flame Flame Fruit.

     6th Flame Hemlock

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hemlockquality.png
The Sixth, Second and Eighth Flame

The Sixth Flame, Hemlock is a woman who specializes in poisons and infiltration. She was one of The Timber Lord’s Commanders, but she assisted the Devil’s Luck Pirates in taking him down. She along with Blake also helped defeat V. She then took over as leader of the Eight Flames and rebuilt the organization, becoming the new Eighth Flame.

Her animal companions is a bag of snakes all with different names. At her command, they can grow to gigantic sizes.

  • Affably Evil: Even as a villain, she remains quite polite and even flirtatious to her foes.
  • The Beastmaster: Her animal companions are an entire bag of snakes rather than just one animal. Among the snakes are two named Noodle and Monty.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Her tongue is as forked as any snake when it needs to be.
(To Ragnar) "I don't know how that would work, just walk into the Boss' room and say 'Hello, I've killed half of your men, can I have a magical panda?”
  • Disney Death: She’s beaten almost to death by Myria’s memory copies. The only reason she survived was because Blue Louis reversed the damage. She was in bad enough condition that she was presumed dead at first.
  • Everyone Has Standards: She may be a bit of a flirt, but she is no home-wrecker. Once she sees Hertha, she understands that Hertha is the only one for Ragnar.
  • Feather Boa Constrictor: Tends to keep a snake around her neck and shoulders.
  • Femme Fatale: Is a beautiful woman who is a master assassin. She also is no stranger to flirtations and double entendres.
  • The Great Serpent: Her snakes are able to grow gigantic if she chooses. Big enough to swallow people whole.
  • Green Means Natural: She has green hair and wears green. She also enjoys plants and nature and makes sure her base of operations (wherever it may be) is full of plant life.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Twice. She works with the DLP to take down The Timber Lord and then once again against V. Both times it was against her current master. It would almost qualify as Chronic Backstabbing Disorder if it wasn’t for her bosses being batshit insane.
    • Under her leadership, the Eight Flames become a mercenary group that helps others for the right price. She also is more than willing to help the Devil’s Luck Pirates whenever needed.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: She is aware when she is fighting an impossible battle and is willing to surrender if needed. This saved her life against the DLP twice.
  • The Leader: If more than one Flame is on the same mission, she usually acts as leader. This trope later matches her even more once she takes over The Eight Flames.
  • Master Poisoner: Is talented in the use of poisons just like her snakes. She also coats her daggers in poison to cripple, weaken and kill her targets.
  • Meaningful Name: Hemlock is a type of poisonous plant. Fitting for a woman who uses poison and snakes with a fondness for nature.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Hemlock is a beautiful, scantily clad woman who is prone to making suggestive remarks.
  • Only Sane Woman: Is frequently exasperated with the people around her and how weird people tend to be. The DLP trying to come up with a plan to restore the Oasis to peace nearly drives her mad.
  • Snakes Are Sexy: Is a sensual woman with a fondness for snakes.
  • Stripperiffic: Wears only a bikini made of plant matter along with a belt to keep her daggers.
  • Taken for Granite: She has a rare poison that has a chance to turn those who are injured by it into statues if they fail a saving throw.
  • Team Mom: Tends to look out for the younger members of The Eight Flames and other organizations she works with, such as Spruce or Cleo. Notably, both characters refer to her as “Auntie”.
  • Villainous Rescue: Ran into the crew at G4 while assassinating Captain Verona and along with Blake, helped the crew escape.
  • Yellow Eyes of Sneakiness: Has bright yellow eyes and is a powerful assassin. Even once she reformed the Eight Flames for the better, she implies that the organization is still willing to kill for the right price.

     7th Flame Valentine

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/valentinecharacter.png
He wants to suck your blood

The Seventh Flame and the most powerful member, Valentine answers only to V. He ate the Blood Blood Fruit Logia which grants him the ability to become and manipulate blood.

His animal companion is a bat which can turn invisible.

  • Ambiguously Human: Turned to ash upon death, not unlike a stereotypical vampire. Why he turned to ash is never explained.
  • Bloodsucking Bats: His animal is a bat that can turn invisible.
  • The Dragon: As the Seventh Flame, he stands above all the other Flames in authority, only answering to V himself. It’s also mentioned that he has been a Flame the longest out of the current Eight Flames.
  • The Dreaded: The other members of the Eight Flames are terrified of him. He is also more than willing to kill any Flames who do not submit to V’s commands.
  • Hat of Authority: Wears a top hat that doubles as a blood container.
  • Mook Maker: He can create “blood buddies” to attack for him.
  • Nigh-Invulnerable: As a logia, most physical attacks do little to no damage to him. Luckily in dnd rules this equates to half damage and reaction for no damage rather than being completely invincible like manga/anime logias. This still makes him extremely hard to kill for the crew.
  • Our Vampires Are Different: He’s frequently compared to a vampire by those who encounter him. And they might be right.
    • Fangs Are Evil: Has a sharp pair of fangs to suck the blood of his opponents/victims.
    • Technically-Living Vampire: Even if he is not a member of the undead, he has enough vampire traits that he might as well be a creature of the night.
    • Vampiric Draining: Valentine can suck people’s blood to sustain himself and make himself stronger.
  • People Puppets: Can control the blood inside others to make them move against their will.
  • Sadist: Takes delight in draining his victims of blood while they cannot even hurt him due to his logia.
  • The Power of Blood: Ate a blood-based Logia that proves to make him one of the most dangerous foes the crew faced this far in the campaign.
    • Bloody Horror: Showering others in his own blood (and the blood of others) is not a pretty sight.
    • Bloody Murder: Can create blood bullets to pierce through his enemies.
    • Life Drain: The blood he absorbs from others heals himself.
  • This Cannot Be!: Is shocked when he finds out the Devil’s Luck Pirates possesses Haki users (if only a beginner’s level of proficiency).
  • Undeathly Pallor: Is quite pale and looks like he doesn’t go out in the sun much.
  • Undying Loyalty: Has dutifully served under V for at least several decades and has never showed any signs of treachery towards him.
  • Vampire Vords: He speaks in this manner, not unlike a stereotypical Transylvanian vampire.
  • Vague Age: He looks to be around his 40’s but has been a Flame since even before Hemlock was a member (and she is in her late 30’s). How old he truly is remains a mystery.
  • Warm Bloodbags Are Everywhere: Sees most people as a human would see a juice box. Even other Flames are not safe from him. The moment they get out of line, they become fair game for Valentine as well.

     8th Flame V
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vvvvv_2.png
The founder of The Eight Flames

The Eighth Flame and the founder of the organization, he was also one of the founding Brothers of the Aeons. He is Verona’s grandfather and is a brilliant if dangerously depraved scientist. Though too old to do much physical work, his mind is still razor sharp.

Rather than an animal companion, V has a legion of combat robots that can turn invisible as well as both a fire golem and an ice golem.

  • Abusive Parent: Rewired his daughter’s mind to become more cold, unfeeling and analytical. He later also orders the Eight Flames to assassinate her for knowing the location of his base.
  • A God Am I: Believes that his technological prowess and brilliant intellect puts him above most of humanity.
  • Bad Boss: His underlings are so replaceable to him, he even lets their killers join in to replace them.
  • Crazy-Prepared: He keeps a button which deactivates all the Eight Flame animals just in case his assassins tried to mutiny against him. He also turned most of his base into a spaceship.
  • Dark Lord on Life Support: Due to his venerable age, he is forced to breathe through a respirator.
  • Evil Old Folks: Is as wicked as he is old.
  • Flunky Boss: The fight against him is less against V himself, and more with the army of robots and golems he created.
  • Human Resources: He uses children and pregnant women as explosives. He also supposedly used them as a way to launch his base into space (however that works).
  • Golem: He has created two powerful golems he uses for muscle. A fire and ice one to be specific.
  • Immortality Seeker: Seeks the secrets to living forever. It was a primary reason why he joined the Aeons.
  • Mad Scientist: Less of the constantly cackling kind but more of the completely detached from humanity and morality kind who will do anything to accomplish their visions. And some things that aren't even necessary but just cruel.
  • Maker of Monsters: Modified (whether through genetics or cybernetics) all of the Eight Flames animal companions.
  • Medical Rape and Impregnate: Keeps pregnant women to blow up. It’s unknown whether he kidnapped pregnant women or did this. Either way, it’s messed up.
  • Offing the Offspring: Ordered the death of his daughter Captain Verona for knowing his location.
  • Omnidisciplinary Scientist: Over the years, he learned many fields of science.
  • One-Letter Name: His name is V. Whether that is short for anything is unknown.
  • Orcus on His Throne: Mostly because he is much too old to even get off. If he could, he would probably be much more proactive.
  • The Perfectionist: Strives to perfect both himself and his creations, regardless of any ethics involved.
  • Power Armor: Created the armor that ended up controlling Dominius, allowing him to live for thousands of years. Arzen blasted it into space when he determined it to be too dangerous (which resulted in V leaving the Aeons.
  • Rank Scales with Asskicking: Averted. Despite being the Eight Flame, he has no real combat abilities to speak of and his body is extremely frail. Once William manages to break through the protective dome surrounding him, it takes just one strike of his sword to cut his head clean off.
  • Robot Master: He has an entire legion of robots under his command and turned Little Timmy into a cyborg.
  • Sadist: Seems to relish in hurting others. He even gave Little Timmy more pain receptors as a cyborg than he had as a human just to enjoy his suffering.
  • The Sociopath: Only the path to his own power and immortality matters to him. Everyone else is either in the way or a tool to be used.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: His needless cruelty led to most of the other flames to despise him. Once his strongest and most loyal follower Valentine is killed, the surviving Flames are quick to turn against him.
  • They Called Me Mad!: He actually almost achieved immortality by creating an armor that can allow one to live far beyond their time, but Arzen sent it to space disturbed by what the armor was capable of. V seeks space travel in order to get his armor back. Seeing Dominius in V’s armor proved that Arzen was right to keep V away from his creation.

The New Eight Flames

     1st Flame Humphrey
A bookworm who was forced to join the Trojan Pirates. After Long John Magnum was defeated, he became the First Flame of the New Eight Flames.

He ate the Bird Bird Fruit, Model: Owl and his Eight Flame animal companion is an owl.

  • Bookworm: Extremely well read and has a lot of knowledge stored in his noggin.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Granted he was forced to work under Long John Magnum. But the moment His boss is beaten, he chooses to join Hemlock’s new Eight Flames.
  • Knowledge Broker: As the First Flame, he is in charge of finding, obtaining and giving information on various people, places and events. He’s even good enough to somehow get info on Kermit D. Frog, someone who lurked within the dream realm.
  • The Owl-Knowing One: He are an Owl Zoan and is a very smart man. As the first flame, he also has an owl companion.
  • Nice Guy: Is a very friendly and jolly man who is more than willing to talk about books and facts to others. The only reason he was ever remotely considered an antagonist was because he was forced to be as a member of the Trojan Pirates.
  • Non-Action Guy: Though being an owl Zoan makes him tougher than usual, he is not really a fighter at all. He’s more at home at a library or working behind the scenes than on the battlefield.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: A studious scholar who wears a small pair of spectacles. Whether he is farsighted or nearsighted is unknown.

     2nd Flame Malaise
A melancholic woman who alongside Humphrey and Taurus was an unwilling crewmate of Long John Magnum. She ate a Paramecia Devil Fruit that allows her to create Illusions. The animal companion she gains as the Second Flame is a baby deer.
  • Better with Non-Human Company: Not a very sociable person but seems to be quite fond of animals. She is very gentle with her baby deer companion and has volunteered at a zoo at least once.
  • The Eeyore: Usually appears to be quite glum most of the time. Hard to blame her when she was a member of the Trojan Pirates against her will.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Along with Humphrey and Taurus, she defects to Hemlock once Magnum is defeated. Not that she was ever bad.
  • Hiding Behind Your Bangs: Her long hair usually hides one of her eyes.
  • The Marvelous Deer: As the Second Flame, she has a young fawn as an animal companion.
  • Master of Illusion: She seems to have eaten some illusion-based Devil Fruit that can make others see and hear things that aren’t there.
  • Meaningful Name: Malaise is a fitting name for somebody who seems perpetually melancholy.
  • Shrinking Violet: She’s quite shy and not particularly open to others. Though she seems to be very good with animals.
  • Shy Blue-Haired Girl: Has deep blue hair and is not much of a talker.

     3rd Flame Mortimore
Mortimore is the new Third Flame and is the group’s doctor.
  • The Ghost: He has never been seen, only mentioned.
  • The Medic: What little we know of the new Third Flame is that he is a doctor of sorts.

     4th Flame Bullet
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bulletcharacter.png

Bullet was the adopted daughter of Big Top, ruler of the Oasis. After the assassination of her dear brother Pellet, she stole the Roulette Roulette Fruit and left the Oasis. She went to the South Blue where she became part of the underworld there as well as becoming an ally of Eustace Valve. She later becomes an ally of the Devil’s Luck Pirates, but her involvement in slavery makes the alliance quite tense.

Eventually, she becomes the Fourth Flame of the New Eight Flames. She also gets a monkey that can also shoot guns.

  • Belligerent Sexual Tension: With William. They frequently bicker and take jabs at one another but have shown attraction to one another. They even drunkenly confessed to one another, made out and slept on a couch together. It never went further than that on account of Void Gold Roger killing her.
  • Berserk Button: Assassins, especially if they might know who killed her brother
  • Everyone Has Standards: Though she is shady knowledge broker who was involved in the slave trade, she hates and fears assassins due to one killing her brother.
    • She also doesn’t like her adoptive father Big Top due to how he runs The Oasis with an iron fist.
  • Fastest Gun in the West: She has a western accent and is a talented sharpshooter.
  • The Gambling Addict: Less so than William but she likes to wager information with a card game. Of course, she tries to cheat in these games.
  • Gun Nut: Is really into guns of all kinds. She can even smell specially made bullets with but a whiff.
  • The Gunslinger: Has been wielding guns since she can remember. She has a lot of tricks she can do with her guns. Some tricks she has includes…
    • Abnormal Ammo: Like Verona, she has some special bullets. One bullet creates vines to entangle foes on impact.
    • Bottomless Magazines: She never seems to run out of ammo on her person despite liberally shooting all the time.
    • Firing in the Air a Lot: When in a celebratory mood, she shoots her pistols into the air.
    • Guns Akimbo: Can wield up to four guns at once, two in each hand.
    • Gun Kata: Can move and swerve with quickly without compromising her aim all that much.
    • Gun Twirling: Of course she can twirl all those guns without issue.
    • Quick Draw: Can draw up to four guns quickly all at once.
    • Handguns: Prefers to use pistols over other guns, though she loves guns all the same.
    • Improbable Aiming Skills: It’s hard enough to shoot two pistols at once with any kind of aim. Imagine shooting four guns at once with two pistols in each hand.
    • Lock and Load: Maintains her guns almost like they’re holy objects.
  • Half the Woman She Used to Be: She is sliced in two by the Gold Roger of another timeline with a single Kamusari after shooting him.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Was a slaver/criminal who allied with the Steam Punk Pirates but worked with the DLP and Eight Flames and eventually joined the Reformed Eight Flames.
  • Jerkass: Even if she claims she only became a slaver for the money, she still is way too into the idea of having slaves. It takes a while to get over this and it’s still something that many characters are uncomfortable with.
    • Hidden Heart of Gold: She deeply valued her dead brother and noticeably hurt none of the Sterrans under her watch.
  • Kissing Under the Influence: She was insanely drunk when she confessed to William and kissed him.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: When she saw that the crew had an Eight Flame Candle, she panics and all but gives up the fight.
  • Long-Range Fighter: She prefers to fight from a distance.
  • No Range Like Point-Blank Range: She shoots Cleo dead at point blank range. Blake beats her inches from death for once he discovers this.
  • Persona Non Grata: Is banned from the Oasis for stealing the Roulette Roulette Fruit from Big Top.
  • Silly Simian: Has a monkey as the Fourth Flame. The monkey can also shoot guns.
  • Tattooed Crook: Has a lot of tattoos on her body. Series artist Kaerru has even mentioned how difficult it was to draw her tattoos.
  • Trigger-Happy: It doesn’t take much to get her to whip out her pistols and ready for a shoot-out.
  • You Killed My Brother: Gravy in his assassin days killed Bullet’s brother Pellet. Bullet wants revenge. Though she later decides to take her anger out on the person who took a hit out on her brother instead. Which turned out to be Big Top.

     5th Flame Olaf

The Mightiest of the Kuma Clan

Olaf is a big, jolly man who is a member of the Kuma Clan, a clan from the South Blue who has a deep connection to bears. He becomes the new Fifth Flame.

He ate the Bear Bear Fruit, Model: Polar Bear. He also has a polar bear animal companion named Camille.

  • Always Someone Better: To Ragnar for a bit due to feeling much weaker after taking blue blood. He also seems to enjoy playfully one-upping Ragnar as the “strong bear guy” of the team.
  • Bears Are Bad News: Get on his bad side and he can be very dangerous.
  • Beary Friendly: To his friends, he is a lovable goofball.
  • Beary Funny: His hamminess is played for laughs.
  • The Berserker: Not the Berserker subclass or anything, but he doesn’t particularly think too hard about how he’s swinging his axes. Just that he’s swinging them HARD.
  • Blood Knight: Loves a good brawl or competition of strength.
  • Boisterous Bruiser: Is a friendly enough guy, but is very good at crushing skulls when he has to.
  • Call-Back: He is a member of the Kuma Clan. Which was the abandoned village ransacked by the Steam Punk Pirates all the way back in episode 2 and had a chest containing the Bear Bear Fruit, Model: Grizzly within it. Olaf first appears in episode 61 mind you. Around two and a half years later in real life.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Is pretty out there sometimes. When the crew decides to form a line behind Ragnar in a mysterious and unfamiliar location, Olaf insists on making a second line. A conga line in fact.
  • Dual Wielding: Unlike Ragnar who wields one big greataxe, Olaf wields two battleaxes.
  • Hot-Blooded: Prone to emotional outbursts and is very expressive about his feelings.
  • Husky Russkie: Has a thick Russian accent and is big and strong.
  • Innocently Insensitive: He expresses disappointment at the lack of Ragnar’s supposed legendary strength, unaware that Ragnar is suffering from his newfound addiction to blue blood.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: Frequently charges into the fight shouting his own name without a care in the world.
  • Made of Iron: Is a very tough man. His hit point total is 250 according to the official wiki. That’s more hit points than even Trevor and the most of any of the DLP’s major allies.
  • Manchild: Is not the most mature member of the reformed Eight Flames. He even expresses disappointment at not getting to go to an amusement park during the time loop.
  • Might Makes Right: He views individual strength as more impressive than the overall strength of a crew, though he has no issues with working as a team.
  • Mirror Character: To Ragnar. Being the strong, buff guy of their respective teams who ate a bear zoan. A lot of people in-universe compare the two and remark on how similar they are. In some ways, he’s almost like Ragnar minus Ragnar’s Character Development and Hidden Depths that makes him more nuanced compared to Olaf.
  • Nemean Skinning: Wears a polar bear hide, complete with a head. So he is a polar bear Zoan wearing a polar bear with a pet polar bear.
  • Retcon: Olaf was initially mentioned as the Sixth Flame in the story. He is actually the Fifth Flame, with Scourge being the Sixth Flame.
  • Straight Man and Wise Guy: With Tempest as the wise guy. He tends to charge into situations while she tries the analyze the situation before taking action. She also has to keep him on track when he gets distracted.

     6th Flame Scourge
Scourge is the edgy-looking New Sixth Flame. He tangles his enemies up using his Web Web Fruit, which allows him to shot webs out of his body like a spider. He also has a small spider as an animal companion.
  • All Webbed Up: He ate the Web Web Fruit which allows him to create spider webs to bind his target. He can shoot out this webbing from his hands and swing around with webs. Sounds familiar?
  • Chuunibyou: He talks about the darkness within his heart and other edgy stuff, but it’s implied that it’s at least partially an act to seem cooler/scarier than he really is.
    • Even when missing with both his attacks (the first attack rolls he did as a character mind you) by a wide margin, he still feels the need to pose as if he accomplished something.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Despite being edgy to silly degrees, he is the Sixth Flame for a reason. He instantly disabled Memory Jefferson and his miniguns and even inflicted a critical hit on Gold Roger of all people.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Despite his appearance, he actually seems quite friendly, if a little dorky.
  • Darkness Von Gothick Name: Scourge is the sort of name you give somebody who is destined for edginess. Whether his parents/guardians chose to give him an edgy name, Scourge is just his nickname or he actually legally changed his name to Scourge is unknown.
  • 11th-Hour Ranger: Helps the DLP and shows what he can do in the very final battle of the campaign.
  • Expy: It’s pretty obvious he’s essentially the One Piece version of Spider-Man.
  • Friend to Bugs: He seems to adore his spider companion enough to allow it to crawl within his armor. He also gets pretty sad about the thought of ants dying.
  • I Just Want to Be Special: It’s possible Scourge puts up an edgy anti-hero act just to get people to acknowledge him as somebody who is awesome.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: Tempest states that he is somewhat self conscious when William leaves him hanging for a handshake.
  • Spiders Are Scary: Has a spider companion and his armor/abilities have a spider motif. Though he himself isn’t all that scary (despite seemingly trying to be).

The Storm Sorceress

An old friend of Hemlock’s, she was invited to become the Seventh Flame in the New Eight Flames. In Movie 2: Muppet Madness, she is Rustage’s Player Character and is a Storm Sorceress. She also has an animal companion Hawk named Lake.

She ate the Weather Weather Fruit, a powerful Paramecia which allows her to create any kind of weather she chooses.

  • The Archmage: Has this sort of appearance, staff and all. Though unlike most examples from Dungeons & Dragons, she is a sorcerer rather than a wizard. Of all the Player Characters in the campaign, she is also the only one who is a full casting class.
  • Childhood Friends: With Hemlock. They’ve known each other since they were young.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Lost her younger brother many years ago. From what we know, he was killed in a tragic event.
  • Deadpan Snarker: For someone who can make it rain, her sense of humor can be pretty dry.
  • Instant Messenger Pigeon: Her animal companion is a hawk that gives her messages from the other Flames.
  • Interspecies Romance: She remarks that she once dated a member of the Longarm Tribe when fighting a Muppet Longarm Tribe Cenobite.
  • Magic Staff: Not exactly magic in an arcane way per se, but her staff is very ornate and is possibly used to help aim and manipulate her weather abilities.
  • Mrs. Robinson: Is in her mid-40s and still looks great. She is just as flirtatious as her friend Hemlock if not more so. She was also quite impressed with William’s skills with his fingers. Being referred to as a young lady also flatters her greatly.
  • Pungeon Master: Doesn’t really make to many of these herself, but she does keep a collection of puns in a journal.
  • The Smart Girl: She’s much smarter than most of the DLP. She is even smart enough to figure out how a computer works very quickly when in the time loop.
  • Straight Man and Wise Guy: With Olaf as the straight man. She is a no-nonsense person who tries to keep the mission on track with minimal collateral damage while Olaf charges into adversity headlong. She frequently has to keep him in line.
  • Token Wizard: Sorcerer actually but Tempest is the only Player Character in the campaign who is a Full Spellcaster.
  • Weather Manipulation: Her being a Storm Sorcerer is flavored as her eating the Weather Weather Fruit. She can create and manipulate weather as she sees fit, from rain to snow to anything else. It’s sometimes joked about how a couple of Canon One Piece characters were theorized to have this power over the years.
    • An Ice Person: She has access to Ray of Frost, Sleet Storm and Cone of Cold.
    • Blow You Away: She is able to blow creatures away from her with strong winds.
    • Fog of Doom: She can create clouds and fog to obscure her surroundings. Her Mage Armor is flavored as cloudy fog around her body.
    • The Power of the Sun: Though not technically weather, she has access to the Sunburst Spell. This is flavored as her opening the sky to reveal the bright sun, possibly making a small hole in the ozone layer.
    • Shock and Awe: Has access to both Lightning Bolt and Chain Lightning.

     Taurus
A young boy with horns growing out of his head and wears a shirt that says “Dino” on it. He was once an unwilling member of the Trojan Pirates along with Humphrey and Malaise.
  • Bratty Half-Pint: He’s around Doxie’s age and has a bit of an attitude. He’s usually in a pretty bad mood, even spitting on the floor rather than shaking hands. Being forced to be a Trojan Pirate, it’s hard to blame him for being grumpy.
  • Elective Mute: Humphrey says Taurus can talk if he wants to, but he usually prefers to just grunts or roars.
  • Glass Cannon: Has a Strength stat of 20 and can knock William flat on his ass but only has 25 or so hit points.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Taurus never was exactly a bad guy (just moody), but he defects from the Trojan Pirates along with Humphrey and Malaise to join the Eight Flames.
  • Horned Humanoid: Possesses Dinosaur-like horns on his head.
  • Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane: It’s currently not known whether his surprisingly high strength or horns on his head is the result of a devil fruit (possibly an Ancient Zoan).
  • Sixth Ranger: Is technically part of the new Eight Flames organization. Though being only 14, he has not been given a candle just yet.
