This is simply what you think is the (not some of the, the) best example of any trope (an objective trope, not subjective, since this already is subjective). The "Crowning Example" if you will.
There could be several reasons you think an example is the best.
You think it's the best in terms of illustrating the trope.
You think it's the most well done.
It's your favorite play in that trope.
You just really like the source material.
Oh, several things before you list examples:
Each troper gets one example per trope, no more.
Don't go "no, this is," or phrases like that. This is about our own personal favorites.
Luke and Tear - Dear lord. In the game, the first hints of these two are very early on. By halfway through the game, everyone EXCEPT them can tell, and comment/tease them on it, frequently. Neither of them actually says anything until the VERY LAST LINE of the game (excluding The Stinger) ~ Gorsecloud
Seconded, so hard. And they friggin' make it work. ~ deeman45
The Tokimeki Memorial series. When you have among your merchandise at least four artbooks serving as catalogues listing the various goods of the series, you know you are a Cash Cow Franchise. ~ Ace Noctali
Mega Man series, noted in the Guinness Book Of World Records as the game which has the most sequels. ~ DAN004
Ed, in series #1. Between the beginning of the first episode and the end of the movie he undergoes a gradual but complete transformation - physically, emotionally, behaviorally and philosophically. I can't think of another anime protagonist for whom the process of growing up is depicted in such detail or with such nuance. ~ gatotsu911
King Shapur II of the Sassanid Empire was crowned in utero — in other words, his coronation ceremony was held while his mother was still pregnant with him, the crown placed on her belly. While many monarchs have been crowned before they were adults, Shapur II is the only monarch known to be crowned before he was born. ~ Mr Initial Man
While Revolver Ocelot makes a very close second place, Lily of Soon I Will Be Invincible takes the cake... while everyones not looking. There is not a single individual or group she hasn't turned traitor to at least once, if not three of four times, by the end of the story. ~ Gattsuru
Kerrigan, How else dose one to become the "Queen Bitch of the universe" ~ Seraphem
Saruman. Back stabs many of the good guys, plans on backstabbing Sauron to have the Ring for himself, and when Helm's Deep failed, tries to get on the good guy's allies list again (likely to then just backstab them when it was again convenient). ~ Ainu Laire
United States Air Force Pararescue. Not only the pararescuemen are THE toughest special force operators (the selection has 95% dropout rate), their evacuation vehicles are typically armed with double machineguns. ~ DRoy
Thirded. And if I could fourth and fifth it as well, I would. ~ Marlee Cross
Fourthed. It doesn't take long after someone meets Johan for him to coerce most people to murder for him, kill themselves for him and/or fall head over heels for him. He doesn't get any pleasure out any of this either, he just sits back and lets the flames chaos engulf everything around him just to see what would happen. ~ Warden
Second. He's a racist, genocidal maniac who betrays one of his most loyal followers (Vegeta) by practically wiping out his race and then proceeds to kill him in front of Goku while he is crying and begging for Goku to stop him. And then he kills Krillin in front of Goku. ~ HyperCubed4
Xykon. Sure, he's all funny and absent-minded at times to the point where one might think him an Ineffectual Sympathetic Villain, but that just makes those moments when he reveals what a powerful, scary, villain he is all the more disturbing. Read Start of Darkness if you disagree.—Wrybread
The Ebon Dragon. The literal cosmic principle of dickery, backstabbing, treachery and cruelty. Utterly incapable of not screwing people over. Manages to be evil incarnate in a setting with no objective morality. ~ Vigil, spacemonkey37
Katara to Aang in the second season episode, "The Desert." Aang has lost Appa, and the combination of anger, sadness, and fear has catapulted Aang into theAvatar State. The Sandbenders are scared damn near literally shitless, and Sokka yells for everyone to run.
Bob Parr's deft circumvention of his insurance company's bureaucracy on behalf of his clients by saying he would tell them exactly what to do to get paid, "... but I can't." ~ HeraldAlberich, Man Without A Body, Seraphem
The entire Digimon fanbase, for coming up with them, and often executing them so well. Give us a chance and we'll convince you that teenager/talking seal with fish minions makes perfect sense. ~ Ecliptor Calrissian, Clevomon
Yu-Gi-Oh! just look at the Shipper's list! If you can think it, there's at least one, if not a gazillion, of it. One of the most popular, Bronzeshipping is Yami Marik x Marik who are the same person ~ Alma Karma
Oh Pokémon With thousands of characters and almost no canon pairings, the many choices in a pairing is quite amazing. A lot of them also has a name, even the really wierd ones. If you don't believe me just look at the list JUST LOOK! ~ monsterlover13
The Alpha Complex in Paranoia. You'll get executed for so much as sneezing the wrong way. Oh, and treason. You can't do sh*t without committing some sort of treason. And guess what the punishment for that is? That's right, execution. Good thing you start with 6 clones (and can buy more!)
In the novels within the series The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Douglas Adams' supercomputer Hactar created a supernova bomb that looked like a rugby ball, and strategically planted it so Arthur Dent would bowl it later in the novel to someone who was actually going to hit it. ~Vinestealer
Paladin. His class, style, tastes all add up to this trope. A fan and expert on the theater, opera, ballet, classical music, and literature(effortlessly quoting situation-appropriete literature off the top of his head), well educated, and being able to hold his own in a four on one brawl and outshoot pretty much anyone he's up against easily qualify him for both the cultured, and the badass. ~~~~
