     The Judges

  • Command Roster: Most of the judge characters fulfill roles within this.
  • Noble Fugitive: The resistance is just trying to figure out what happened in The Switch.

Dr. Genevieve 'Gene' Hawkins

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gene_bust_3671.jpg
The leader of the resistance against Regent Black and his regime, and the inventor of the device used to bring the competitors to Phaeton. Before The Switch, she was the Chief Scientist in several government-owned labs.

Alvaro

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/alvaro_bust_9018.jpg
Creator: Venomouswolf
Before The Switch, he was a detective; now he's a spy (through his mastery of disguising himself) for the resistance. And he's damn good at it. Not much else is known about his past, though.

Philip Grode

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/philip_bust_4824.jpg
Creator: stephi-JK
Head Medic within the resistance, Philip was a military surgeon. On the day of The Switch, he was attending a funeral with some of the top brass in Phaeton's military. He briefly stepped inside to make a quick call, only to be hurled against the ceiling, and watch helplessly as his comrades, friends and bosses hurtled off into the sky.

Mathias Reiner

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mathias_bust_4247.jpg
Creator: ReidoBiwa
A young man known for his prowess in guns and once a member of the government's artillery, Mathias is fast and destructive on the battlefield. He was quite the loner before The Switch and, when it happened, he only barely avoided falling into the sky along with many others.

Lulah Paz

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lulah_bust_4000.jpg
Creator: Huoryu
A young postal worker in Phaeton that carries messages around for the resistance. Thanks to the yet unknown properties of the planet, Lulah's fascination for the city and her sens of exploration grew through the years. She eventually became the youngest member of the postal service of the city that still plays an important role in their society. Her main job is express delivery, meaning that she must deliver her packages as soon as possible and through routes that some vehicles cannot access.

Alex Petricov

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/alex_bust_7476.jpg
Creator: irish-hugz
A scout, explorer and scavenger for the resistance. Alex is a friendly sort of person, finding enjoyment in socializing with others and sharing what he's discovered while scavenging. He has the most fun, though, mixing and testing his own dynamite, which comes in very handy when clearing debris and finding ways into the buildings he explores. He doesn't like talking about his life pre-Switch. When asked, he'll dodge the question and change the subject. Others have been able to glean a few things from him with casual conversation, but not much else.

  • Rocket Boots: Well, rocket SHOES, really, but even so.
  • Stuff Blowing Up: All that dynamite's gonna get put to use one way or another...
  • Throw Down the Bomblet: Yes Alex, you probably CAN blow that thing up. But WHO THE HELL TAUGHT YOU HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN DYNAMITE?!
  • Tricked-Out Shoes: They have rocket thrusters in them. Need I say more?

Oscar

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/oscar_bust_1931.jpg
Creator: captainflip
A young man working for the resistance. His only known concrete skill is following orders really well... and that's about it, so far as we know.

     The Enemy

Dr. Regent Black

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/regent_bust_8002.jpg
The current ruler of Phaeton, Regent grabbed power in the wake of The Switch, and the subsequent loss of Phaeton's government. The people trust him as a whole, because he hasn't made any mistakes (at least, none that the public know about). Not much is known about him; resistance agents have attempted background checks, but have thus far found nothing, and have been caught shortly afterwards. He controls the Polis, and directs them against the resistance.

The Polis

The embodiment of Regent's will within the city of Phaeton. No-one knows exactly how big the Polis is, or what their definitive uniform is, but this doesn't matter usually; if they come, they're instantly known to be the people to run away from very quickly in a direction that leads to somewhere that isn't towards them.

  • Depending on the Artist: There is no set official uniform for the Polis; it's up to the contestant creators to decide what the Polis look like.
  • Mooks: They usually fall into this category; the contestants have to plough through SOMETHING when it's not one another.
  • Praetorian Guard: As well as policing Phaeton, they serve as THE obstacle between the resistance and Regent.
  • State Sec: A complete summary of what they do in Phaeton, minus the above.

     The Contestants

Cottus & Hector

Creator: NoneToon

  • Fashionable Asymmetry: Inverted with Cottus; his clothes are symmetrical (due to being all one colour and style), but his actual body isn't.
  • Flight: Hector's main ability.
  • Lazy Bum: Hector, SO VERY MUCH. The only thing he brought to Phaeton was a PILLOW, so he could drop off to sleep any time he wanted.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Hector might love to play pranks and generally snark off at people, he's quite loyal to Cottus (especially after hearing about his mother).

Rattle

  • Barbie Doll Anatomy: Rattle's species don't seem to wear clothes, but despite being largely close to human biologically, they don't seem to have nipples or genitals. At least, not obviously.
  • Frame-Up: His audition round shows him about to suffer punishment for a crime he didn't commit.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: Can change his height and outward biology at will, though he only has two forms. In his larger form, his human features are more defined and normal-looking.

Darwin

Creator: Nyaph

  • Intangibility: Darwin has a limited example of this; they can phase through matter, but only for around 6 inches and if there's a living thing on the other side. Other living things just go straight through them.
  • No Biological Sex: Though Darwin is referred to interchangeably as "he" and "she" in their reference sheet, they don't have any actual gender.
  • No, I Am Behind You: Darwin has the ability to phase through living beings, so this is inevitable.
  • The Quiet One: Can talk, but prefers not to.

Ravin Mirage & July

Creators: dragol (of July) & Raxion (of Ravin)

  • Mind Rape: Don't break a pinky-promise with Ravin, don't look in her eyes and whatever you do DON'T go to the Hedge.
Reference Sheet: Sanity grows back, right?
  • Portal Door: Ravin can create these from any existing doorway. They lead to the Hedge.

James "Jim" Elliot & Cherry Chapel

Creators: rougeFetus & b-marble respectively

  • Everything Is Better With Explosions: Jim doesn't know a thing about dynamite, aside from the fact that it's fun.
  • Genius Ditz: Cherry may have been able to build an interdimensional teleporter, a jetpack, and a grappling gun in a backwater Southern U.S. setting, but that doesn't mean she knows how the science that they come with works.
  • Grappling-Hook Pistol: As mentioned above (though to be fair, it's pretty big, and is used in a manner similar to a rifle, so it's more realistic in that sense)...
  • Jetpack: ...along with this.
  • Jerkass: Jim just doesn't get on with ANYONE aside from Cherry, and even then he's not all that nice to her.
  • Love Hurts: Even before he fell in love with Cherry.
Being heart broken and confused, Jim took up an outlet to drown all his misery in: getting DRUNK AND BANGING SLUTS. And trying to make everyone around him as miserable as he is of course!

Kiff & Conscience

Creator: Fyrecalla

Nym

Helios Daima & Luthiah Ito

  • Actual Pacifist: Helios has taken an oath never to hurt another living being.

Dantalia Albion & Lisa Portabella

Creators: castilen & Dalmonite respectively

  • Action Girl: As a lieutenant in her world's military, Dantalia has seen her fair share of action.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: Dantalia takes a long time to warm up to most people.
  • Dual Wielding: Dantalia's swords.
  • Flaming Sword: This happens when she channels her fire magic through them.
  • Flight: The cockroach wings Dantalia has allow her to do this, but only really for short bursts; anything too long or sustained tires her out quickly.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: Dantalia is part-cockroach, as a result of a chemical fire.
  • Mushroom Samba: The mushrooms in the back of Lisa's head periodically put her into a good or bad trip, which she can spread to others by breathing spores on them.
  • Playing with Fire: Dantalia is a pyromancer.
  • Reluctant Psycho - Lisa is plenty aware of the mushrooms on her head causing her trips (the monsters), but she is powerless to stop it, and at best can only hide herself where she can’t harm anyone.
  • Sweet Tooth: Lisa loves, loves, loves, loves, LOVES sweets.

Anorak

Creator: rirth

  • Sweet Tooth: Anorak LOVES sweet things, like donuts and candy.
  • Wolverine Claws: And HUGE ones at that. They also help channel his energy, can repair themselves, and can conduct and store electricity. They don't retract, though.

Hydrolus & Cass

Creator: Mariannefosho

  • A God Am I: Hydrolus. Justified in that he is as good as, on his homeworld.
  • Berserk Button: Hydrolus has a LOT of these. A good few are to do with not giving him the treatment/respect he feels he deserves.
  • Elemental Powers: Hydrolus has a couple of these.
    • An Ice Person: As part of his power over water, he can create and manipulate ice.
    • Making a Splash: Manipulation of water at will in all its states of matter, including vapor (he even carries around a large vat of water, ready to use if he isn't drinking it to survive)
  • Jerkass: ...Hydrolus, you may be a god, but that doesn't mean you can be a dick.
  • Mortality Ensues: Upon arriving to Phaeton, Hydrolus has lost a lot of his power, and even some of his Immortality. He still largely commands water, and even gravity to a degree, but he only has eternal youth, and can be killed through other standard means.
  • Physical God: Hydrolus is the equivalent of a deity, of water, death and gravity on his own world.

Hermia Matillah

  • Action Girl: Due to being hunted for her magic, Hermia has had to rely on herself a lot of the time.
  • Cursed with Awesome: Hermia has the power to absorb and use magic; a skill that is shunned in her homeworld. She'd get rid of it if she could.
  • Energy Absorption: One of her primary magic abilities.
  • Magic Staff: Her weapon of choice. It has magnets on both ends and "gravitational capabilities".

XIXIIX and Mecre-Disa

Creator: 1STW
  • Love Martyr: A platonic and friendship-based example; XIXIIX hurls insults at Mecre-Disa, who just shrugs them off as if they never happened.
  • Wolverine Claws: XIXIIX fights with "Pixel Claws", magical artifacts that have the added ability of manipulating inorganic material.

Moly B. Denum & Sprocket McKormic

Creators: Basiliskz and Achyfi respectively

  • Blood from the Mouth: A side effect of Moly's illness. Thankfully, this never got a chance to crop up in the story proper.
  • Goggles Do Something Unusual: Night vision! Sunglasses! Pebble protection! Style!
  • Hair Antennae: Moly has three of them.
  • Meaningful Name: Moly's full name is shared with the element Molybdenum.
  • Motor Mouth: Of the word-cloud variety.
Moly: The Council is going to be so pleased with this and it don't even matter that it was Darrel that found it no sir no sir today EVERYONE gets paid ohgosh with the money I'm gonna go buy a car NO wait no I'm gonna go on vacation yes vacation buy myself a boat and maybe hire some pirates and get myself the greatest vacation and...
  • The Nicknamer: "Mapboy", "Panda", "Ghost mugger"... She really doesn't care about your name.
  • One Head Taller: A platonic example.
  • Parental Abandonment: Moly's died in a cave-in. Subverted with Sprocket; they left Mysoteria after he was 18 and old enough to look after himself.

Seritpuel "Copper" Copperfox

Creator: pokesam

  • Playing with Fire: She has innate pyrokinesis, amplified and channelled by her magitech gloves and boots.
  • Tsundere: According to Word of God, she may not seem to care what happens to Phaeton outwardly, but really, she would put her life on the line for it.

Emiel

Creator: dax812

Kitty & Cedric

Creator: IOTHurricane

  • Big Brother Instinct: Cedric towards Kitty. If you ever even SEEM to pose any threat to Kitty, Cedric WILL NOT be happy.

Nick Colridge & Stephen Elwell

Creators: TheCheeseCannibal & GhostWonderer respectively

  • Big Brother Instinct: Stephen, all the time towards Nick, turned up to eleven and beyond.
  • Berserk Button: If you either become too personally close to Nick for Stephen's liking, show too much affection to Nick for Stephen's liking, or generally seem to pose any inconvenience or threat to the relationship of Nick and Stephen (at least from Stephen's point of view), Stephen WILL end up stabbing you. Probably a lot.
  • Cain and Abel: Stephen to Nick, when the former is feeling what the mentally sound recognize as 'abusive'.
  • Jerkass: Stephen towards anyone who doesn't treat him with the respect and adoration he feels he deserves. Which is most people.

Aura / Zoë Johnson

  • Action Girl: She's a superhero with peak physical strength and endurance AND psychic powers. Enough said.
  • Ambiguously Brown: Though according to Word of God, she's mixed-race.
  • Cool Mask: As Aura, Zoë wears a plain white female mask which shows none of her face save her eyes, and a hood.
  • Handicapped Badass: Zoë may be deaf-mute, but she's capable of flipping cars and forcing people into a specific task (effectively gaining control of a person's entire nervous system and motor functions) with her mind.
  • Psychic Powers: Her most identifiable set of abilities.
  • Power Incontinence: Her psychic abilities suffer from this a fair bit, however, to both logical extremes and every spot inbetween; they can fail entirely, work too well, not quite work enough...
  • Power-Strain Blackout: What happens if she forces her psychic abilities to work too often or to too great a strength.
  • Pstandard Psychic Pstance: Subverted most of the time, but only justified for her telekinesis, as it's channeled and controlled through arm, hand and finger motions.

The Doctor & The Killer

Creator: Devicon

Gin & Tobi Twicetail

Rose & Jack

Creator: treebook

  • Big Eyes, Little Eyes: Both have big eyes, but Jack's monster form has little ones.
  • Deadly Upgrade: This is what exposure to the sun amounts to, as his monster form can only last for ten minutes before Jack completely melts to death.

Xenos

Creator: edel-blau

Quedar

Creator: MischiefJoKeR

Magical Maid Margaret

Creator: dvdice

Esther Frontpaw & Laka

Creator: Syoshi

  • Tsundere: A rare "bigger-sister" example with Esther, towards Lisa, the young rabbit girl she was looking after and has gotten lost in Phaeton.

Kitorsky "Kit" Gerwehn Wavenski

Creator: Juno-Gemini

  • Scars Are Forever: Because of a past injury, part of his right eyebrow is permanently gone.

Xenon Morphix

Creator: pikminpedia

  • Aliens Speaking English: He lives on Earth, and knows English, but he CERTAINLY isn't from there.
  • Coat, Hat, Mask: The hat is a bowler, and the mask is either the bandages on Xenon's head, or his cloaking device.

Elinvar

Creator: Shadow-wing2

  • Made of Iron: Or, at least, metal. This is due to her biology, really, as she feels pain differently to humans.
  • Meaningful Name: The material "elinvar" is a nickel-steel alloy.
  • No Social Skills: Elinvar just doesn't fully understand other living things, both biologically and psychologically.
  • No Biological Sex: The only reason she's referred to as female is because her belt makes her look like a human woman.
  • Shapeshifter Baggage: Zigzagged - Her belt means she can stay looking relatively human, when her true form is similar to a snake. And when she auto-regenerates, it takes metal from around her body to repair it, which decreases her overall size. If she replaces the lost metal/materials, her mass balances out again.

Snowflake / Kara Rodwaller / Juliet Casey

Creator: Domina-Law

Pierre & Cheryl

Creator: Remui

  • Aliens Speaking English: Zigzagged; Pierre can't actually speak English naturally, but Cheryl translates for him, and says aloud whatever he's said in English.
  • Human Aliens: Aside from the green skin and weird fingers, Pierre looks pretty much human.

The Drifter

Creator: MelCairoRose
