A bold, fast-talking lady with a love for jewels, treasure, and money, Houshou Marine became a VTuber with the goal of making enough money to afford herself a pirate ship and crew of her own, aspiring to head out on the seas and go treasure hunting. This pretty much means her pirate outfit is more a cosplay than it actually shows her status as being a bona fide pirate. Marine is also incredibly sensual, gladly admitting she's horny as she acts flirtatious and lewd to everyone around her.

Abhorrent Admirer: Played for laughs. She's usually depicted as one for many of her fellow idols due to her overtly sexual approach creeping them out. Her most consistent target seems to be Pekora, where Marine would constantly attempt to shower the Shrinking Violet bunny girl with affection and attempts at skinship, only for the former to either reject it out of hand or find ways to distance herself from the pirate as much as physically possible.
Accidental Murder: In a MMD video prepared for Valentine's Day, she offers Korone some chocolate, only for the latter to faint and die due to being intoxicated by chocolate (chocolate is harmful to dogs, after all). In the follow up "RIP Gamers" video, a shocked Marine thought that Korone would be fine since she's more human than dog, at which point Korone comes back to life and lampshades that assumption. Then, Mio, Fubuki and Okayu come over and ask for chocolates, to which Marine obliges. They, too, end up dying like Korone due to their respective species' weakness to chocolate intoxication, much to Marine's consternation.
Marine: Why're all the Gamers such a pain in the ass?!
Actually Pretty Funny: She finds Kanata's rap that's just nothing but roasting her to be utterly hilarious that she ends up playing it twice.
Adaptational Badass: Truth of Beauty Witch -Marine's treasure ship- upgrades her from being a mundane, yet comically-submissive pirate to a(n elderly) powerful witch who magically abducts attractive people to serve as her "crew", whom she manipulates into loving her via Mind Screw. Her magic also lets her appear much more youthful and pretty than she actually is, as well as stopping time to avoid a point-blank cannonball flying at her.
Age Insecurity: While Marine's profile says she's only 17, several of her songs and music videos imply she's older than she looks or claims to be and is lying about her age due to feeling insecure about it impacting her attractiveness.
Ambiguously Bi: She talks about how she went to a Christian girls' school and explains how in such a setting all girls become lesbians. She also claims to not be a lesbian anymore, but her actions speak a different story...
Ambiguously Christian: Marine studied at a Christian girls' school, and when asked what would she convert Subaru for she jokingly answered "Christianity". This has been referenced in music videos depicting her as a nun.
Affectionate Nickname: Occasionally called "Maririn" by her friends, most commonly by Pekora.
Aggressive Submissive: She's described herself as a seducing submissive, and she's certainly shown this time and time again.
Amnesiac Hero: Her backstory involves her losing her memory at some point, which is why she turned from an extremely young Harvard graduate and former productive employee; to a pirate captain; and finally a pirate captain who mostly just does streaming nowadays.
Animate Inanimate Object: Dokuro-kun is a skull-shaped cup holding booze that would often appear onscreen as a static prop. Following Marine’s casual swimsuit outfit, Dokuro-kun acquired his own live model and became alive, being able to float in the air and express emotion.
Aren't You Going to Ravish Me?:
- In her 3D debut, she's subject to being forced to the ground by Rushia. ^note Due to Marine's enthusiasm for the situation, Rushia backs out, prompting Marine to beg her to not leave.
- Done again in this MMD skit on her channel, with a point of view of someone opening a door just to see her tied up. And then they proceed to walk out.
  Marine: What are you planning to do with me?
  [Beat], followed by the camera moving away from her
  Marine: ...H-hey, where are you going? You can have your way with me, you know!
- She is surprised by the reaction of her chat to an MMD skit where she gets slapped, noting that she uploaded it because she thought people would be into that sort of thing. Instead, viewers reacted with dislikes and commented that they couldn't feel good about hitting a girl. After that, she uploads an alternate version that makes it clear the act is consensual.
- During an off-collab with Kiara where they discuss Marine visiting the latter's native Austria, she keeps asking Kiara about the chances of her being abducted by brawny, tough-looking men "about three times bigger" than her.
- While she's teasing her upcoming CEO outfit, her chat asks her whether that means they're finally getting paid. Marine says that she has no money to offer, and that, given the circumstances, she regretfully has to offer her body as payment. Unfortunately, chat doesn't seem to be all too interested in being paid in expired goods.
- Her whole dynamic is summed up well in the short video "Horny is a sin", where Marine does a sexy pose while saying her infamous catchphrase in the lewdest voice she can manage... only for the video to Smash Cut to her screaming as she's thrown out the window of the Hololive office.
Ass Kicks You: Her big butt is apparently not just for show, as more than one member who met her IRL got blown away when trying to wrestle with just their rears. Koyori fell victim to it on stream, while Watame recounts getting blown away by the sheer force of Marine's push. According to herself, she has never been defeated by anyone in this respect, which she demonstrated by single-handedly eliminating Mio, Lui, and Miko in a game of musical chairs during Hololive Summer 2022, with Lui in particular being known for her powerful hips that, by all accounts, should've given Marine's butt a run for her money.
The Baroness: Her 3D Misoji outfit invokes this, with her being Hotter and Sexier than her standard model, having more dominatrix tendencies, such as stepping on her viewers with high heels, and having a militaristic flair to her design, including an army captain's hat and a paper fan.
Beware the Nice Ones: Although Marine tends to be one of the more laid-back members of Gen 3, her anger is quite something to behold if her Berserk Button is pushed. As Marine herself admits, when she's sufficiently pissed off, she will seethe for hours if not relieved, and items within her reach tend to be in danger of getting smashed. In fact, her favorite way to relieve stress in the past was to jump up and then landing on her bed with extreme impact, since she couldn't shout it out loud due to her old apartment having poor soundproofing. It is because of her nasty temper that Marine almost never shows her anger to anyone, and Flare is incredulous to learn of this, having never seen her getting that upset before.
Bitch Slap: Uploaded two videos where she was slapped by somebody, with differing reactions. In the first one, she runs away crying; in the second one, she instead longingly blushes and her pupils become heart-shaped.
Big Bad: Of Truth of Beauty Witch -Marine's treasure ship-, a collaborative spin-off of the Tsugu No Hi series much like Korone's own Evil God Korone before it, where a fictionalized version of herself is presented as the beautiful captain of a pirate ship that conspicuously has no crew, before being revealed to be a wizened crone who uses magic to appear younger in order to entrap the protagonist.
Blatant Lies: Whenever she gets called out on her Improbable Age, she resorts to these, such as claiming to have graduated from Harvard at the age of 3 or that she turned "17, season 2" on her first birthday stream.
Broken Pedestal: Played for laughs. Early into her career, her manager once told her that she should take example on Akai Haato to learn what a true idol is like. As time went on, that idea went... places, to put it mildly.
Butt-Monkey: She's often the punching bag of jokes whether it be about her age, her poses, her lack of stamina, or her sexual enthusiasm. Seeing how it's all in good fun, she takes it in stride.
Buxom Beauty Standard: It's common knowledge that Marine's figure is the source of jealousy for many of her fellow talents, even those who are known to be rather well-endowed themselves like Lamy and Noel. Marine herself is fully aware of the legendary status of her assets, and would often play them up for all their worth if given the chance.
Can't Hold Her Liquor: Her second sprite-animated intro for her streams shows her lounging in her captain's quarters, drinking a single mug of rum, and passing out immediately after downing it.
- During an episode of Calli's Holoyoi drinking stream, both Noel and Flare stated that they believed Marine to have the lowest alcohol tolerance among the holomems who were regular drinkers.
Character Catchphrase:

- "I'm horny!", especially ever since she was taught this line by Coco.
Casual Kink:
- She's mentioned a few times she'd like a suck on a girl's breasts, and wouldn't mind if a girl wanted to do the same for her.
- She's also admitted to being into Mind Control as a genre while collaborating with Subaru, especially the kind where the subject is manipulated into doing something sexual before the hold on them is suddenly released, much to their confusion. Revisited in a couple of her weekly MMD shorts as well.
- Additionally, if the occasional MMD animations on her channel are any indication, Marine also seems to get off on being hit by others, be that a slap across the face or being spanked in the rear by Lamy.
- During the second UMISEA episode, she casually lifts up Aqua's skirt and asks her if she's ready to "go" so that she can have a drink. She was deathly thirsty, sure, but her facial expression indicated that she would enjoy it as well. Aqua is understandably freaked out.
Character Development: As noted below, Marine is notoriously bad at dancing and any attempt at it would betray her as having very stiff movements. However, for her 2022 birthday celebration she did a proper idol dancing routine for her same-day released single, I'm Your Treasure Box. She later stated that she had spent months training for this show, the majority of which was spent learning how to dance.
Character Tics: Based on her character model's movements, Marine seems to have a habit of rocking back and forth in her chair. She does this with noticeable regularity on her talk streams, especially when she's using her 3D model, which the Ichimi sometimes point out in the chat. Hololive Summer 2022 all but confirms this, with Marine laughing at Suisei being eliminated from musical chairs punctuated by her rocking back and forth and clapping.
Coat Cape: Marine tends to wear her jackets this way. While she zigzag frequently between this and wearing her coat loosely in her original outfit, her office costume has her wearing it around her right shoulder using a strap.
Commuting on a Bus: Because of her sore throat, Marine greatly reduced her streaming schedule mid-July 2021 as to not strain her voice, with a few pre-recorded videos here and there to alleviate the feeling of absence. This is fairly similar to Suisei's predicament months earlier in March, as Suisei had to slightly alter her voice to lessen the strain on her vocal cords and get help from other talents to speak for her if necessary. Complications from both internal bleeding and how she usually vocalizes arose in mid-September, forcing her to take a month-long break to recover and take proper vocal training; the collabs and deadlines she already had announced still stand, though.
*Crack!* "Oh, My Back!": One of her favorite ways of playing into the popular "granny Marine" joke is to depict herself being injured by minor physical exercises, sometimes accompanied with a loud crunch.
- The "In Search of Maid-ness" Hologra short has Marine trying to persuade Aqua into doing something befitting of a maid, but the best Aqua comes up with is getting on all fours on a walking globe, to which Marine mocks. At Aqua's insistence, Marine tries to get on the walking globe even though she's actually never done it before, but falls flat on her butt. Aqua laughs, but is flabbergasted when Marine can't get up and tells her that she heard a crack.
- One of the MMD shorts on her channel has her playing limbo with Aqua and Shion holding the rope. Despite the rope barrier being held at chest-height, just bending her back that little was enough to cause an audible sprain and send Marine collapsing onto the floor.
Curb-Stomp Battle: Delivers an epic one towards Korone in Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 where the score is 39 to 5 in favor of Marine.
- Her run in Pekora's Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 tournament basically consists of these, culminating in a 5-0 win over Koyori in the finals.
- Another MMD short is when she watches Lui do the "kick the bottle cap challenge". She tries to do it herself, but she throws her back before she could kick the bottle cap off. And her skirt falls off, with the bottle covering everything.
Cute Clumsy Girl: In videos that are uploaded in short format, Marine is shown to be extremely clumsy when not playing games, often laughing at herself in shame or engaging in Camera Abuse.
Cute Little Fangs: Her 3.0 visual upgrade in July 2023 gave her a small fang on the left side of her mouth.
Cuteness Proximity:
- By her own admission, Aqua's social awkwardness in real life causes her to give her headpats and speak in Baby Talk.
- She finds bees in Minecraft utterly adorable, although they're capable of giving her Cat Scares when suddenly appearing from a beehive.
- She's also fond of Minecraft pandas, to the point where she screams rather loudly when watching them eat bamboo for the first time.
Declaration of Protection: She's said that after meeting Pekora for the first time in person and seeing just how much of a Shrinking Violet she was, that she feels a strong compulsion to protect her. It's apparently so strong that she openly says she misses how much Pekora was dependent on her, albeit jokingly. She's made good on it before too, as she once confronted Matsuri for feeling up Pekora, who Hates Being Touched.
Destination Defenestration: One short video has her pose and declare that she's horny before getting thrown out the window of the Hololive office.
Determinator: When she was playing Rhythm Tengoku and wasn't performing well, someone in the chat said that she should probably quit. She replied with a question, "Do you walk away when things get difficult?" and recounts that she joined the swimming club when she was in school despite not knowing how to swim, but that was the point: She went there to learn how to be good at it and eventually did.
Did They or Didn't They?: At the end of SHINKIRO, Marine and Gura prepare to say their goodbyes after a romantic summer. Gura calls out to Marine, who turns around to see Gura transforming into Gawr and leaping towards her. Cut to a silhouette of a giant shark with glowing red eyes and blush stickers chomping down on Marine. The scene then transitions to Marine waking up naked next to an equally nude Gawr, both covered by a glowing white Modesty Bedsheet that blends in with the ethereal background; the implication being that Gawr either literally ate Marine so they wouldn't have to be apart and she's in the afterlife... or the scene was a metaphor for them having sex. The final shot of Gura swimming away into the ocean while Marine's ship-in-a-bottle floats on the surface doesn't make it less ambiguous.
Dirty Old Man: Her father is quite perverted, if Marine's many stories of him are to be believed, with him allegedly visiting sketchy sites using the family PC, and she had even found some of his Porn Stashes around the house when she was young. Marine herself is no slouch in this department, though, considering most of the other tropes in this section.
Dress Hits Floor: A Running Gag in her MMDs. Marine will either be caught taking her skirt off, or her skirt will just spontaneously fall to the floor, and she'll either scramble to pull it back up, or will be frozen in embarrassment with her face completely red.
Dude, Not Funny!: She was utterly surprised to see this reaction to the MMD of her getting slapped in the face and running off in tears. Given her awareness of her audience's horny side, she was expecting a more perverted reaction to the video, but most of her audience felt outright sorry for her in the video.
Elegant Gothic Lolita: Her third outfit◊ is a Rozen Maiden inspired red and black dress with her eyepatch emblem reflecting the change by including a half rose along with the half heart.
Engrish: She sometimes uses English words from her college days, but extremely poorly. It's affectionately referred to as "Maringlish". See here for a compilation from Marine herself. While it is cute and she jokes about her strange English frequently, it occasionally frustrates her that despite all of her work to become fluent she hasn't come as far as she wants to be, and once posted the following on reddit after becoming enraged at herself for not being good enough for her own standards.
Marine: A former English teacher at a Korean elementary school was my teacher today! The teacher said that elementary school was more fun than her current job. I asked him why, but I couldn't understand what he was saying.😢 I hate my fucking English skills.🤬 I want to be able to hear English and converse with my fellow ID'ers and EN'ers!🥰 I'll keep working on my English lessons🏴‍☠️
Everyone Has Standards:
- Even someone who is well-known to be a pervert and making sexual remarks, Marine is as opposed as Coco when Kanata first tries to say "I am horny" in English.
- She has also stated that she would never act overly perverted towards Pekora, since she knows Pekora genuinely dislikes that kind of attention and doing so would cause her a lot of discomfort.
Exotic Eye Designs: Her pupils will occasionally turn into heart shapes when she's feeling particularly, erm..."excited".
Eyepatch of Power: As part of her gimmick, she has an eyepatch over her right eye. It actually covers the fact that she has heterochromia (her right eye is yellow). When she was asked about both the eyepatch and her yellow eye, she gave the stereotypically Chuunibyou response that she has dangerous magical powers sealed in her right eye. Humorously, her chat didn't have any of it and collectively decided that eating too much seaweed probably caused her eye to change colors.
Fangirl:
- For the Touhou Project series:
  - She flips out when she manages to meet ZUN in person, and goes absolutely nuts during sponsored gameplay of Touhou Spell Bubble, gushing over the voice actors and music.
    Marine: SHE TALKS!!! Reimu can talk now!
  - She's even capable of identifying Touhou characters (and the game that portrait appears in) using only their face.
- For Hisoka Morrow, although it's more subtle than the above example. For one, Marine's appreciation for Hisoka mostly extends to her throwing in references to him on stream, as well as streaming in-character as if she is him. If Marine has to randomly play or draw a character, nine times out of ten she will pick Hisoka at the drop of a hat.
Fiery Redhead: Subverted. She's a redhead for sure, but she leans towards "erotic" than "fiery".
Flash Step: In her mini-series of "Marine gets slapped in the face", she uploads a video where the unknown person tries to slap Marine, only this time Marine dodges by flash step, then back hands her assailant after posing.
Friendly Pirate: Marine is a Pirate Girl who is very kind and friendly. She became a VTuber in order to gain enough funding to buy a real pirate ship. Aside from being excessively horny, she's one the nicest pirates you'll ever encounter.
The Gadfly: When playing horror games with Koyori, Marine likes to Jump Scare her with shouting whenever Koyori is already on edge.
Genre Savvy: In her Portal 2 playthrough, she immediately realizes that GLaDOS's plan to Logic Bomb Wheatley won't work because Wheatley is Too Dumb to Fool.
Going Commando: Marine has maintained time and again that she doesn't wear any panties underneath her skirt. Not that it matters, since she's very visibly wearing a leotard under her costumes which serves a similar purpose.
Hair-Trigger Temper: The Holo no Graffiti shorts usually depict Marine as being a hair close to a Rage Breaking Point because of her fellow talents' shenanigans, and she usually ends up hitting that point by the end one way or another.
Hartman Hips: Slightly zig-zagged with her character model, which has narrow shoulders versus a large bust and hips, but also a noticeably more wider waistline than most examples of this trope, giving her a somewhat chubby look. During one stream, she's mentioned that she's also got such a big butt that, according to her, could cushion any damage she'd take from a fall that would normally hurt someone's bones. She's also mentioned how she often bumps into stuff with it due to the size, which is doubled that of Noel's according to the infamous shower stream at the KanaCoco house. During a stream, Noel also recounts a time where she, Marine, and Flare were sitting on a bench, hanging out. Flare got to sit on her side of the bench just fine, but Noel had to share a part of the bench with Marine, only to barely fit because of just how huge Marine's butt was, taking up most of the space.
The Heart: Underneath the lewd comedian, she's very kind and generous to the other girls in Hololive, especially the ones that are shy/lacking in self-confidence. She essentially took Pekora under her wing for some time after Pekora's debut, apparently treats Aqua much the same and has been slowly encouraging Ayame to open up to her. She's also moved her stream times on multiple occasions so as to not conflict with others' streams.
Hey, You!: Downplayed. She calls the collective ichimi "Kimi-tachi", but no offense is involved.
Hidden Depths:
- She's quite the talented artist; even if she downplays her own skill, you'd be hard pressed to find someone in hololive who doesn't admire it. She's also much more responsible than her upbeat, eccentric, and shameless attitude would indicate, as she's had comments from other idols that she's very aware of her peers, wanting to do things to make them happy and tries to keep her streams from starting at the same time as others as to not overlap.
- During her Outlast playthrough she immediately recognizes that the patients, even the hostile ones, are victims of the hospital and deserve empathy, rather than falling into the Insane Equals Violent assumption for their actions that most players make.
- Marine's known for her chatting and drawing streams, but she's no slouch at gaming either which is to be expected from such a devout Touhou fan:
  - Marine holds the 14th place Any% Speed Run record for Hey You, Pikachu!.
  - She and Korone challenged each other in speedrunning races for Cho Aniki: Seinaru Protein Densetsu and the Boss Rush of Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards with Marine taking a No-Damage Run handicap for the latter. On both occasions, Marine emerged victorious. ^note
  - Marine wasn't exactly a favorite to win for the hololive Mario Kart 8 race in Jan 2021, but she still managed to claim third place. A feat she would repeat in 2022 and 2023^note
  - For her Genocide playthrough of Undertale, she only died six times against Undyne and a mere 21 times against the Final Boss. For comparison with the final boss, Suisei died 101 times, Fubuki died 116 times, Subaru died 170 times, and Kanata died a mind-boggling 341 times.
  - She demolished everyone in Pekora's Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 tournment playing Puyo Puyo, regularly winning 5-0 in all her matches, including the finals against Koyori. And then she capped off winning the tournament by beating Suisei 5-1 in the exhibition match afterwards.
Hot-Blooded: She's very passionate about what she's doing, and can get worked up rather easily.
The Hyena: She's a joyful girl, with quite the hearty laugh to go with it.

I-Y

I Just Want to Be Loved: Heavily implied this is the case, best shown here, where she laments that Shion doesn't remember what (possibly) happened during their night together, saying that "(she) hadn't been touched like that in a long time". Additionally, Marine will also occasionally upload short MMD animations that imply this being the case, where she would be moved to tears (or turned on) by the mere act of someone giving her an affectionate headpat.
Impossible Hourglass Figure: According to the girls who have met Marine offline, she seems to have one. Averted with her stream avatar, which has a more decidedly chubby look.
Intercourse with You: Many of her songs are revolved around sexiness and lewd topics, with "I'm Your Treasure Box" being by far her most libido-fueled song.
Lovable Sex Maniac: And an unashamed one, for that matter.
- In her debut stream alone, she coyly asks for those who "draw her without clothes" to use her character design sheet as reference, and then there's her Suspiciously Specific Denial comment on her own art of Matsuri and Fubuki.
  Marine: It's not like I want to beat Matsuri-senpai's butt or anything.
- Her 3D debut has her being submissive and subject to BDSM "punishments".
- Of course there's her general reaction to most if not all of the Azur Lane girls.
- She also failed to maintain the persona of a grade schooler when doing a Q and A stream, instead deciding to talk about being too horny to function on several occasions, as well as listing off her favorite doujin artists, and admitting that talking about this stuff on stream had aroused her.
- At one point she says she feels so horny she wants to sleep with other hololive girls. Also, after Inuyama Tamaki mentioned that a woman's sex drive will peak at 30, she's a bit terrified how much her sex drive will shoot up when she reaches 30 (and no, she is NOT 30 yet).
- Her 3D collaboration with Kiryu Coco hung a big fat lampshade on her sexual nature when she, with a little help from Coco, declared loud and proud.

- Both her Reddit profile picture and profile banner are erotic and were immediately flagged and censored as Not Safe for Work, and Marine tags most of her posts as Not Safe for Work even if when they aren't as a joke.
- She asked Calliope how to ask the audience if they wanted some of her bathwater. Then later felt she had to go out of her way to clarify that the reward for the meme contest she was holding would not be her bathwater when there wasn't any confusion that bathwater would be the reward anyway.
- One of her videos silently pans across her New Year's outfit to show that she's Going Commando.
- Even Yagoo of all people lampshades this in a shitpost interview he did with Marine. Her response was pretty hilarious given her own self-confessed shotacon tendencies:
  Yagoo: Ahoy, Captain Marine! Thank you for your regular activities. In my personal opinion, you are a one-and-only idol.[[note]]A more accurate translation of "yuiitsu muni", which is translated here as "one-and-only", is in this context "unique" or "one-of-a-kind". It's just that your streams are super lewd, so I can't recommend them for children. Lol. Keep up the good work!
  Marine: I don't know what you're talking about.
- "I'm Your Treasure Box" is a sexually-charged song laden with innuendos, with Marine singing about how sexy she is while posing and dancing very suggestively.
- Marine and Okayu once collaborated on a "worldly desires" Marshmallow stream, in which they both answer very sexually charged questions. Their managers were watching the stream the entire time to do damage control, just in case.
- During the Shuffle Medley 2024 concert, Marine's default outfit switched to Ina's outfit, which, given Marine's proportions, made for a very spicy look. She proceeded to sing her number with a look that screamed "I'm turned on", and when Ina's tentacles appeared behind her, at one point she suggestively stroked one of them while another slid down her leg. Her fellow talents were anywhere from amused to flabbergasted at how sensual the whole thing was.
Mad Eye: Occasionally, the iris of her left eye will shrink and move around like crazy (or both of them, whenever she streams without her eyepatch), similar to gangimari Watame. This usually happens when Marine is terrified or overly excited.
Male Gaze: Marine often talks about how big her butt is, and during one MMD short, she shows it off and sits on the viewer. Her official music video focuses on her bust and butt while she's coyly posing in a bikini, with her crewmates openly ogling her.
Master of All: Among the most multi-talented in the company. She is an exceptional singer, with several of her Original Songs becoming the most beloved throughout Hololive, she is a professional artist able to draw art the same level as some of thr vtuber artists, and she is one of the most skilled gamers consistently placing top 3 in the annual Mario Kart tournament and in Super Smash Bros. she is one of the few able to hold her own against pro-players.
Me's a Crowd: Once prank called Aqua over Discord with three others impersonating her. Needless to say, Aqua was very confused.
Missing Mom: Although Marine did off-handedly mention her mother in some anecdotal stories from when she was very young, she seems to have disappeared from the life of the Houshou household altogether since. For the longest time, whenever Marine talks at length about her family, it's always just herself, her father, and her sister.
Modesty Shorts: Her MMD model seems to have a pair of spats worn beneath her skirt to cover up the naughty bits, though judging by the uneven lines on her thighs, these seem to be less of actual shorts and more of somebody just painting her butt black to make it compliant with YouTube guidelines.
More Hypnotizable Than He Thinks: Discussed during a collab stream with Subaru, where (much to her dismay) she finds out at length just how much Marine loves hypnotism Doujins with this trope in play.
Motifs: Anchors, befitting her character theme as a pirate. Her swimwear outfit has so many anchor ornaments all over the place that it borders on Sigil Spam.
Motor Mouth: Her normal speaking pace is nothing short of frenetic and she is one of the fastest natural talkers across the organization.
Ms. Fanservice: Just like Coco after her, Marine is an example of somebody who acts as perverted as she looks, a lot of her design and actions being more overtly sexual than her peers.
Naughty Nuns: Sister Marine serves the role of a nun meant to cleanse people's spirits, and yet she's just as lewd and horny as her pirate self.
Naughty Tentacles: She chose to swap outfits with Ina during hololive COUNTDOWN 2024 for this very reason. In two back-to-back shots, she's shown lustfully brushing a tentacle on her face, before one wraps around her thigh.
Noodle Incident: Marine has illustrated a short doujinshi as to what happened the night she and Shion overslept for their stream, to which Shion has repeatedly denied any memory of while Marine has vocally insisted that it's true. While it's possible that a) Marine simply had a vivid dream, b) Shion is simply denying it for personal reasons, or c) she genuinely doesn't remember due to the fact they were both drinking heavily, they have both agreed to move past it and pretend it didn't happen.
No Sense of Personal Space: Played for laughs. Like Matsuri, Marine tends to be rather touchy-feely with her fellow talents, up to and including trying to forcefully grab and kiss them. Unlike Matsuri, however, Marine usually asks first, and will back down at the first hint of genuine discomfort from the other person, unless it's for a skit.
Nun Too Holy: Sister Marine. Dressed as a nun, she, alongside Fubuki as a priest, listen to the confessions of the other hololive members. This being Marine, of course, she proves to not be very holy (much less seiso) throughout the stream, ending with her being taken away by Officer Subaru. Also noteworthy is that her nun outfit has a NSFW version as well, which went unused except for in a status update on her official Twitter.
Official Couple: She's officially "married" to Pekora as of December 2023 as part of the promo for their song Bridal Dream. The pair even have a daughter named Makora (voiced by Raden) as a result of this development.
Old Maid: Despite her claims of being 17 years old, her chat constantly teases her about being a Christmas cake. Several of her videos and songs have her angsting about her age and proclaiming she's still attractive.
Old Shame: Marine tends to have this reaction towards her old artworks, most notably a RPGMaker game, titled The Second World, which she made while in highschool. When said game was featured on a Subaru-Fubuki collab stream, Marine desperately pleaded them not to read the cheesy, Chuunibyou-level dialogue out loud in embarrassment, and cringed at it again when she herself played it on-stream. She did eventually elevate the game out of this status in April 2023 when she decided to work on getting her game fully voice acted, first by having fellow hololive members voice a couple of lines from various characters as part of an impromptu audition on the 15th, with a formal audition for professional voice actors taking place on the 21st.
Older Than They Look: Heavily implied that she's much older than her alleged age of 17. She claims to have gone to Harvard, has worked several years in an (unfortunately abusive) company, and the official channel lampshaded it when they said one of her karaoke streams was filled with old classics any 17-year old would know.
O.O.C. Is Serious Business: In November 2020, nearing the end of one of her singing streams, she admits, In Gratuitous English, that she's not horny anymore and that her libido has been drying up. She notes in her native language that she isn't lying and that she won't even find the urge to read her erotic books. It's been suggested her busy schedule and a passing illness being the reason why she ended up like this.
Overnight Age-Up: In her standard design, she's stated to be 17 years old. However, when she switches over to her 3D Misoji design, she ages up to 30 years old, as emphasized by the word "misoji".
Picky Eater: She can't eat anything "weird" or she'll cry. As Noel and Flare have both noted.
A Pirate 400 Years Too Late: She becomes a real pirate during the UMISEA specials, by spending all of her savings to buy a real ship, recruiting The Shut-In Minato Aqua to be her "first mate" (read Butt-Monkey) and eventually getting Ninomae Ina'nis and Gawr Gura to join her crew. Hilarity Ensues, of course.
Pirate Girl: This is her main shtick, although, in practice, she's really just Dressed to Plunder and is considered by the others to be a cosplayer.
Pirate Song: Fittingly, Marine's first original song was a pirate song called Ahoy!! 我ら宝鐘海賊団☆ (lit. "Ahoy!! We are the Houshou Pirates!"). It has proven to be one of Hololive's most popular songs.
The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything: She used to be this. She used to say that she is a pirate without a ship, and so she has no way to do the things that pirates are most known for doing.
The Quiet One: During Summer 2021, Marine was recovering from a throat infection and wasn't allowed to use her voice for long periods of time. To make up for this, she streams with a soundboard and having a fellow Holo member be her voice (this has included Kanata and Mio).
Rage Breaking Point: In an anime short with her, Suisei, Coco, Pekora, and Fubuki, she was building a ship in a bottle when Suisei and Coco comes across her. When they were making too much noise, she warns them that she'll get angry if they make too much noise again. When Coco was about to sneeze, Suisei covers her mouth until Pekora does so, and Marine reached her breaking point. When Fubuki enters the room, she sees the girls in a giant bottle with Marine sitting on top of it.
Real Women Have Curves: Due to a combination of her average height, large chest, and wide hips, as well as a rather wide waist, Marine has a slightly more plump look overall compared to her fellow talents. Based on anecdotes given by herself and the other girls who have met her personally, this is how Marine actually looks as well, which lends credence to her poor fitness and low dexterity, as it is a common problem faced by many women with similar physical attributes.
The Reliable One: Despite what one may think, she's described by many Vtubers as very kind, mindful of others and a person they can rely on who can take the lead when needed.
Retraux: Her 3rd Anniversary Live is modelled after late Shōwa-era^notethe mid-late 1980s, for those unfamiliar idol concerts, with the song list made up of popular songs from the era and effects like degaussing, hard subtitles and pillarboxing overlaid on the video to make the live look like it was ripped off an old VHS tape. The 4th Anniversary Live continued the tribute with a 60's-70's anime opening and being streamed in YouTube's original 4:3 resolution instead of being pillarboxed.
- The music video to SHINKIRO was styled after 80's-90's anime fitting for a city pop song.
Rule of Funny: She has stated that her goal is to make people laugh, and she intentionally filled her own theme with silly lyrics for this purpose.
Scary Teeth: Marine's 3D model notably distinctly sharp teeth that are shown when she opens her mouth, albeit they're not to the degree of Gura's, which are actual shark teeth. Can also be interpreted as Cute Little Fangs, especially in the context of Yaeba, which the other wiki points out as a sign of youthfulness and natural beauty.
Screams Like a Little Girl:
- Generally averted — Marine's signature scream is a gravelly "GYAAAH!" when getting jump scared in horror games. Once in a blue moon, though, this is played straight, like when she encountered a Leviathan in her Subnautica playthrough.
- One rare instance of this happened during her Genocide playthrough of Undertale, specifically in response to Flowey's Suddenly Voiced moment. This ended up catching the attention of none other than Toby Fox himself, who sent her a DM on Twitter confirming that he was the one who voiced Flowey in the Japanese version.
Self-Deprecation:
- She expresses some bewilderment that Sora handpicked her to be part of ALICE though the others immediately tell her not to think like that.
- Her "78 years old" stream is what happens when Marine takes all of the "actually a grandma" jokes directed at her to their logical conclusion.
Shameless Fanservice Girl: Marine has absolutely no problem playing up fanservice for her viewers or other vtubers.
Shipper on Deck: Presumably for Noel and Flare, considering she's said it's her favorite relationship and once cried over some sad fan art she saw of the two. That said, she won't hesitate to make a move on Flare or Noel.
Ship Tease: SHINKIRO is a duet between Marine and Gura that has them fall in love over a romantic summer before Gura has to return to the ocean... whereupon Gawr either takes over and eats Marine so they'll never have to be apart... or they have sex.
Signature Headgear: Marine wears a bicorne hat with a large feather sticking out of one side as part of her pirate getup.
Silver Vixen: Downplayed with her 3D Misoji outfit, as she's only 30 years old when using it, but she's still aged up from her main model by 13 years, she still maintains a Fanservice-y design, and she has noticeable grey pinstripes in her hair.
Single-Target Sexuality: Downplayed, because Marine is still, well, Marine, but she seems to be the closest and most genuine towards Pekora out of all of the talents that she has flirted with. She has admitted on-stream to feeling hot and bothered by many of the things Pekora did, and if they're in the same sleepover party together, Marine will usually invite Pekora to take a bath or sleep with her and leave the others alone. Whereas Marine's interactions with the other talents usually stop at being playful, the amount of affection she regularly proclaims to have for Pekora really makes one wonder.
Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: One-sided against Luna. Luna's existence seems to get under Marine's skin, with just about anything the princess says or does resulting in Disproportionate Retribution.
Skewed Priorities:
- When Marine's tricked by Aqua into entering a prison-cell styled room in the AquaMarine ship and straight up held captive with nothing but milk, bread, and an R-18+ doujinshi, the thing that really irks her is the fact that the book titled "R-18+ Doujinshi" is actually completely blank and insists she draw or write something in it to warrant the rating, which completely flabbergasts Aqua.
- Even worse, Marine legitimately bought an R-18+ doujinshi IRL and presented it to Aqua (with Shion as the witness) as "inspiration" for when she gets to draw her own. Aqua was predictably completely embarrassed, much to Shion and Marine's amusement.
Skull Cups: She has a cartoony-looking one by her side in her streams. It's apparently made of gold, even.
Smoking Is Not Cool: She hated smoking because of her old colleagues who smoke frequently as there wasn't a separate smoking room then, using their excuse of a simple break from work to smoke.
Spin-Off:
- She is one of the stars of the UMISEA shorts, which chronicles her adventures as A Pirate 400 Years Too Late, along with Minato Aqua, Gawr Gura and Ninomae Ina'nis)
- Not officially, but Marine hosts her own series of sporadic animated shorts (no longer than a minute each) that are a spin-off of Holo no Graffiti due to sharing the same animation quality. Each short usually features her and one other member of hololive JP.
Spit Take: Marine can be seen spitting her drink in astonishment when she sees a naked Gura in the Shark'd original animation.
Sucks at Dancing: Apparently. Matsuri even bluntly asks her if she's 40 years old after seeing how she dances. Her lack of stamina certainly doesn't help anything.
Super Drowning Skills: Parodied. During her 3D debut Marine acts as if she's viciously drowning despite her feet touching the ground while the rest of Fantasy simply laugh and watch.
Sword and Gun: One of her music videos features her wielding both at the same time.
The Team Normal: She's a pirate without a pirate ship, which essentially makes her a cosplayer as she and other vtubers have repeatedly made note of. She's more explicitly this in her generation, which otherwise contains three non-humans with abilities both magical and physical, that humans could not have, and one human knight who's far stronger than the others.
The Tease: Even in a company that includes Choco, Matsuri, Ollie and Akirose, Marine may very well be the alpha of Hololive flirts. Far more explicit than most of the girls (even Matsuri), Marine will hardly pass up an opportunity to flirt or make sexually suggestive remarks when she deems fit, although she's aware of people's comfort levels and won't flirt with people she knows will be genuinely uncomfortable with it, like Pekora. Unlike most examples, this serves to intimidate and throw off her fellow idols than get the reaction she wants. Leads to a hilarious moment of biting off more than she can chew for Ollie in their first collab, as every attempt to flirt on her part gets steam rolled by something far more aggresive and/or explicit from Marine.
Marine: [Reading a machine translation] Please... remove... the... ribbon... from... your... tits. OK?
Ollie: (Beat) No.
Marine: "No"? "No"!?
Ollie: No desu. No iya da.
Third-Person Person: Marine usually refers to herself as "senchou" in her streams, and very rarely ever in the first person.
Time Travel: Once did a stream roleplaying as herself at the age of 78, claiming that she time traveled to our present. She's apparently actually a pirate in her timeline.
Too Kinky to Torture:
- For her 3D debut, Coco ends up restraining her hands and hitting her butt with a bat so that she may learn to repent for her "sins". While she does end up repenting, she makes a few comments that the frequent hits to her butt was becoming enjoyable when the pain was balanced out.
- Later than that, Rushia had wanted revenge for having the former lay down and Marine attempt to get on top of her, only for Marine to welcome the development and Rushia to call it off due to her excitement.
Too Spicy for Yog-Sothoth:
- An interesting take, while hololivers and vtubers in general are not unaccustomed to playful flirtations for extended periods of time, Marine's flirtations tend to come on as very strong and often perverted which plays a part in their rejection of her so frequently.
- During the UMISEA shorts she gets grabbed by one of Ina's tentacles and is dreading (as well as anticipating) some Naughty Tentacles play. Eventually Ina's tentacle lets her go.
  Narrator: Octopusses can taste through their tentacles, are highly intelligent and will let their prey go if it's not to their liking.
  Marine: I don't know how I should feel about this...
Totally Radical: Marine asked someone, later confirmed to be Calliope, to teach her some phrases she could say in English, and Calli being a fellow boomer, taught her some extremely outdated English slang. (Along with teaching her to ask the audience if they wanted her bathwater which Calli was too embarrassed to say, and insisted that Marine was the one who wanted to know how to say that). Afterwards, when she joined the /r/hololive subreddit, her bio was littered with words like "based", "lit", "dope", and similar, and her username is capped off by a very mid-2000s "LEGIT". In fact, shouting out "DOPE! BASED! SUPERLIT!" has become something of a Catchphrase for her.
Tranquil Fury: As poor Aqua learns the hard way, Marine wasn't angry at her for fooling her into coming in a detailed room only to fall through a fake floor with a small prison. She was livid when the only thing Aqua provided her was food and a book that says "Doujinshi 18" with no lewd material in it. Her fury was so intense, Aqua begins cowering in fear.
Transparent Closet: For someone who claims that their attraction to girls was just a phase, she certainly makes it known that if any Vtuber were to return her affections, she'd be on them in a heartbeat. With the exception of Luna, of course. Perhaps most tellingly, after her Noodle Incident with Shion, she's admittedly very caught up in her feelings over what (possibly) happened, and is noticably disappointed after they make an agreement to not talk about it anymore.
- In the second UMISEA episode she outright states that "she has the body of a 45-year-old", but we are not meant to take that statement seriously. Regardless, Marine does frequently complain about physical discomfort enough that there seems to be some truth in the claims of her being several years older than many of her fellow idols with definite age ranges, who are generally in their early-to-mid 20s.
Vitriolic Best Buds: With Pekora, any time the two are pitted against each other in any sort of competition will resort in taunts and insults flying between them until a victor is decided and then some, but the two are quite close and comfortable with one another.
Weight Woe: Implied, due to the wide variety of weight loss programs Marine either had tried before, or knows about, ranging from electrical muscle stimulation to more crackpot ones like intentionally implanting tapeworms into one's body. That said, Mio has stated that she isn't even fat, but she tends to get worked up about it regardless.
Wicked Heart Symbol: The symbol of the Houshou Pirates, a two-toned heart with an arrow piercing through, shows up on her costumes and pirate ship.
Yaoi Fangirl: She's admitted to drawing and reading BL manga in her spare time. She has even agreed to share some of her Porn Stash with Amelia when the latter asked her about it in a happy birthday Twitter post.
Your Costume Needs Work: A comical variation. One of the more recurring jokes regarding Marine is how other talents can imitate her voice and personality so much better than the real deal, particularly Fubuki and Matsuri. In fact, when bamboozled in a gag where she had to point out the real Marine amongst a group of Hololivers pretending to be her, Aqua passed over the actual person herself because she "didn't sound like Marine" and picked Fubuki instead.
