  • Abandoned Catchphrase: In very early streams, Bae tried to use the greeting "Ohakos!" This ended up getting dropped and replaced with her more well-known "Wazzup!"
  • Accent Slip-Up: During her debut, she initially started with a high-pitched voice that didn't have any sort of identifiable accent to it, however, she would occasionally slip into a Contralto of Strength where her Australian accent would become noticeable. Eventually, she settled on using the latter full time.
  • Affectionate Nickname:
    • She is often called "Hakotaro" by her Japanese senpais. While it started off as an Embarrassing Nickname, she eventually came to embrace the name.
    • In addition to the above, Mio has given her the name "Shaketaro" (Sha-ke, meaning salmon).
    • English fans have latched onto using "Taro" as a general suffix for her, and use it for whatever personality she may be displaying, such as Toxictaro when she is being a toxic gamer, or Choketaro when she is on a losing streak.
    • She has allowed Miko to refer to her as "PAD-chan", due to expanding on the joke of Miko misreading the word "RAT" on her top.
    • Kobo forgoes the formalities and goes straight to calling her "Rat" during their first ever conversation. Bae later allows her to call her "Rat-senpai".
    • Iroha refers to her as "Bae-nee" and also treats her as a Cool Big Sis.
  • The Apprentice: She gets recruited as Subaru's deputy police officer in the Oozora Police streams, where she assists in being a translator for dealing with EN suspects.
  • Ambiguously Related:
    • Like many of the fans, both Ollie and Bae notice just how similar they are in physical appearance, personality, and interests. Ollie ponders if they are twins, or if Bae is actually her secret daughter. During their first Apex collab, they finally confirm Bae is indeed Ollie's daughter, albeit adopted (to get around the question of who the father is).
    • Speaking of Ollie, another vtuber that Bae was memed about being related to was Ironmouse from VShojo, with fans memeing that Bae was the child of Ollie and Ironmouse (who is one of Ollie's many wives). When Bae finally collabed with Ironmouse, they decided that Mousey is Bae's dad.
    • Mr. Squeaks. His relationship with Bae has been discussed numerous times, with it being unclear if he's Bae's pet, child, or work friend. This was clarified in a stream where Mr. Squeaks debuted that Mr. Squeaks is NOT her child, but someone who silently judges Bae and tries to keep her from dying.
  • Amicable Exes: She and IRyS got married and divorced within the space of one day, but remain on very friendly terms, though sometimes delving into Vitriolic Best Buds.
  • Angrish: Like Kronii, Bae also has a tendency to devolve into frustrated grumbling when she starts losing uncontrollably, most evident in her many Mario Kart 8 DX streams. In a completely opposite manner to her genmate, whose Angrish can end up sounding very high-pitched, Bae's voice that comes out in such moments is surprisingly deep and mature.
  • Animal Motifs:
    • She is a rat-girl. She has mouse-like ears and a tail, she has the word "RAT" written on her top and is quite short in terms of height.
    • Her fans and many of her fellow talents tend to call her a hamster and give her -taro based nicknames. While she was initially annoyed by this, over time Bae gave up trying to fight this and just accepted the comparisons, even creating her own "Toxictaro" persona whenever she wants to be abrasive.
  • Aroused by Their Voice: The general consensus among her viewers is that her Contralto of Strength sounds very attractive. Kronii would be inclined to agree, as would her Kronies.
  • Ascended Fangirl: While she was a fan of many talents throughout Hololive, such as Subaru and Marine, special mention goes to Roberu who may or may not be Bae's oshi. This was mentioned several times on and off-stream, and the first time they interacted during the winning son's Apex Legends collab with Ollie, Bae was essentially reduced to a nervous wreck in his presence, in stark contrast to her usual Genki Girl tendencies. Although she denied this being the case, Ollie was not fooled at all.
  • Authority in Name Only: Lore assigned her as the leader of Council, but by Bae's own admission it is in-name-only and she never sees herself as any more leader-like than the rest of her generation.
  • The Baby of the Bunch:
    • A Gartic Phone collab with the rest of the Council had one of the galleries featuring Bae being drawn as a baby, much to her chagrin.
    • The Halloween period of 2021 further exemplified this by revealing Bae is constantly being terrified of horror games and relying on her friends for moral support, leading others (especially Kiara) to consider her their baby rat.
    • She eventually settles on the age, forever 12note , making her the youngest of Council. Following this revelation she took to using her being Just a Kid to explain away things she has little knowledge on. She also declares that her relationship with her viewers is not that of their rat wife, but as their rat little sister.
    • Goes full circle when she starts playing Apex and streaming with a PNG of herself as a Baeby rat, using a filter to make her voice sound baby-like and acting like a baby.
  • Bad Boss: To Mark, her text-to-speech bit that she has annually read out pickup lines. She kept him locked in a box for a year and tells him he signed a contract that obliges him to work for life.
  • Been There, Shaped History: It's not so much she happened to be born on the 29th of February, she's the reason why the anomalous Leap Day exists to begin with. She had Kronii slot the extra day in for her.
  • Big "OMG!": During her playthrough of Yakuza 0, Bae goes into a squeeing meltdown when Goro Majima learns the Breaker style.
  • Big Sister Bully: After Bijou was established as her little sister, due to both of them sharing Ollie as a mutual momnote , leading to Bae acting like an Aloof Big Sister towards Bijou who is constantly annoyed and harsh towards her.
  • Bilingual Backfire: In an off-collab with Subaru, Bae comments that she is borrowing Subaru's computer while noting that her computer is capped at 720p. An indignant Subaru jumps in and responds to Bae in English:
Subaru: I am not good at English. But, I can hear you! I can hear-... hear what you say!
  • Bizarre Alien Biology: Has 2 pairs of ears, human and rat ears. Unlike Pekora, who's human ears are only for show, all of hers work, though the rat ears are apparently more sensitive.
  • Break the Cutie:
    • During her first Minecraft collab with Nene, Bae went adventuring on the JP server and found a cockatoo and parrot (who she named Mumei JR. and Bae JR. respectively). After a lot of uncertainty, Bae succeeded in bringing them over to the EN server through the portal, which both girls were so excited over and ended the stream. Only promptly for Bae to report afterwards both her pets got killed by a creeper.
    • Near the end of April 2022, Bae revealed that the kitten she had been fostering since December last year, was no longer living with them. Their family had agreed that their household was not suitable to raise a cat, and Beastie had been adopted by another family. Bae was understandably distraught and fighting back tears, with her cat she had been so close to for months being separate from her so abruptly.
  • Brick Joke: On September 24 2021, Bae decided to prank call as many Holo members as she could, where for Mumei she wished her Happy Birthday midstream with Mumei playing along in believing it actually was her birthday. A year later, Bae would do the same, recalling the previous year's events, with Mumei expressing much more confusion this time.
  • The Bully: Her "Toxictaro" persona specializes in being this, who goes out of her way to insult and taunt every character she comes across.
  • Butt-Monkey: Bae is one of the most bulliable girls out of not just her gen but all of EN, with her typically being made fun of by her fellow talents or her chat, and sometimes both.
    • This is especially apparent in her horror game streams, where her freaking out provides ample opportunities for her audience to laugh at her expense.
    • Bae constantly finds herself getting new Embarrassing Nicknames ranging from her viewers, her genmates, other EN members, or even JP girls. Bae eventually remarked that her identity as Bae Hakos was disappearing with each day.
    • Starting from her second Pokemon stream, Bae's chat has started a trend of bullying her with red superchats which carried on into subsequent streams. Bae got so flustered she threatened to turn superchats off.
  • Can't Hold Her Liquor: Numerous instances of Bae drinking on stream indicate her alcohol tolerance is ... meager at best. Bae herself doesn't mind it; she finds it economical to get to a fun level of tipsiness on a smaller budget.
    • If her room review collaboration with Calli is any indication, by the end of the stream, Calli was barely buzzed off 40% alcohol whiskey, but Bae was absolutely hammered off 5% beer.
Calli: I've dranken a sip of whiskey for every sip of beer you have drank, and you are tipsy and I am barely...
      Bae: I'm floating awaaaay.
    • Calli and Bae held another drinking game for their "Pet Review" collab, and this time around, Bae got so drunk that she became incomprehensible, much to Calli's amusement.
Bae: I'm actually gonna... drink some water, please... I'M... H2O.
      Calli: You're H2O?
Bae: You heard me. I'm hey-ch two oh.
      Calli: [visibly confused] ...you're hey— H... H2O?
Bae: [swaying from side to side] I'm hey-ch oh two... oh oh two oh...
      Calli: [laughing] Bae, you good!?
    • Bae has been known to get so drunk she has no memory of a lot of what happens while she's drunk, and only finds out in subsequent streams about what she did while drunk. During a Rat Review with IRyS, Bae ended up doing a Batman impression while IRyS went away and had no recollection of it. Another instance had her drunk tweeting, only to find out about it from chat almost a week later and being thoroughly embarrassed by it.
  • Carnivore Confusion: Possibly the biggest example in hololive, supplanting Watame in this area.
    • Being a rat she is just about at the very rock-bottom of the food chain. Several of the other hololive members have all expressed desires to eat her including Fubuki, Mumei, Reine, Kiara, Zeta, and Marine.
    • Both Mio and Nene have warned Bae that Botan is likely of adding rat to her menu of animal-meat based dishes in her Minecraft restaurant.
    • During her birthday call-in, she claimed that it's actually in her contract that if she doesn't become a good idol, Yagoo will authorize Fubuki to eat her.
    • In her hololive - Holo no Graffiti debut, when Bae sows chaos by unleashing her rats, three of the girls who are her predators are called in to stop her, which include Okayu, Fubuki, and Polka. When beaten the predator senpais then chastize her for trying to start a revolution when she's at the bottom of the foodchain.
  • Character Catchphrase:
    • "Wazzup!" ended up being her chosen greeting for starting streams or introducing herself.
    • She uses "Boom!" very frequently to describe her love of explosions. This later became one of her membership emotes, while "Boom Boom!" became included as her standard way of thanking superchats.
    • "Bruh", which she elaborates that it's very versatile and can be used to convey all kinds of emotions.
    • "SARABA DA!"note  which is used to end a stream, typically shouted out in an energetic voice.
    • "You wanna go? You wanna freaking go??" is used as her Bring It phrase whenever she feels provoked or wants to provoke someone.
    • "Send help", "What's happening?", and "what's going on?"note
  • Characterisation Marches On: It has been pointed out to Bae that her overall persona has changed the most since debut out of all of Council. At the start she came off as an extremely energetic, genki and inquisitive young child with a high-pitched and squeaky voice. A year later, Bae would adopt a more chill and calmer demeanor but also becoming more sharp-tongued and snarky, accompanied by a noticeably deeper voice. Bae would differentiate these two different characterizations by dubbing her early persona as "Debut Bae".
  • Cephalothorax: Her VRChat model is a cartoony rat head with arms and legs attached to it, courtesy of one of Amelia's doodles and a fan contribution.
  • Cheshire Cat Grin: Her model allows her to do a mischievous sharp-toothed grin, befitting her nature as the embodiment of chaos.
  • Chuunibyou: Bae is an avid fan and believer of this characterisation. She will take great glee in acting in an over the top enthusiastic and hammy way, which she describes as being "chuuni", even swapping out her intro with a longer chunnier one.
  • Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: To Mumei in Minecraft, sharing this role with Kronii. Whenever either of them are with Mumei, they'll constantly be closely watching Mumei and making sure she doesn't get wander off or get sidetracked.
  • Cluster Bleep-Bomb: Unleashed a twelve-second volley of bleeps on a Mario Kart 8 DX stream where she started off well but then gradually fell down almost to the dead last place due to a combination of her own bad luck and the other racers repeatedly bumping into as well as tossing shells and Bloopers at her to screw with her controls.
  • Companion Cube: Dee Dee and Dum Dum, the red and cyan teddy bears she keeps around her waist. She goes everywhere with them so that she never feels alone.
  • Contralto of Strength: Despite her usual shrill voice, Bae is also capable of speaking in a remarkably low tone that rivals even Kronii on occasion, typically when she's frustrated or just gotten out of bed. This is also fit for her role as the embodiment of Chaos.
  • Culture Clash: Australian slang and culture sometimes causes confusion when collabing with girls from other regions, or with the chat, due to being Separated by a Common Language.
    • Gets into a minor but notable culture shock with Kronii in their Portal 2 collab where Bae challenges the Canadian to a game of scissors-paper-rock, leading to the two talking about the Australian way of saying rock-paper-scissors.
    • During a collab with Gura, Australians using the word "torch" to describe flashlights causes quite a bit of confusion for Gura.
    • Her Minecraft username "whatabae", has caused a lot of confusion among the JP senpais. Pekora, Subaru, Watame, Kanata, Sora, Suisei, Miko, Aqua, and Flare were all unsure of who she was, with some of them initially mistaking her for Watame.
    • There was an incident where she talked about loving "lollies", which was misheard by the non-Aussies in the chat.
    • During a guerilla Council collab sans Sana, Bae mentioned tomatoes but uses the UK/Australian pronunciation "to-mah-toes" as opposed to the American/Canadian pronunciation of "to-may-toes", causing both confusion and teasing from the other girls.
      Mumei: Do you say "po-tah-to"?
      Bae: No!
      Mumei: [bluntly] Why?
    • Bae's tendency to use "chips" instead of "fries" had her getting increasingly flustered as the North American girls continued to bully her over her preferred terminology.
  • Cunning Linguist: She is versed in both English and Japanese, with some knowledge of Korean. Notably, she speaks as much Japanese as she does English, and often alternates between both languages with ease, usually to translate what she just said in the other language, and to reply to the Japanese viewers on stream.
  • Dartboard of Hate: Played for laughs. The official render of her room has a dartboard hung behind her with, appropriately enough, a picture of IRyS taped in front of the bullseye and a dart embedded in the face.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Bae can become very snarky when annoyed.
  • Determinator: Similarly to Kanata, when Bae has her sights set on clearing a stage, she will dedicate hours upon hours until she gets there no matter how damaging it is to her sanity.
  • Divorce Is Temporary: Exaggerated in regards to her relationship with IRyS. It is a running gag of the two re-marrying and divorcing every other time they collab, to the point it's not too uncommon for even them to be confused about where their relationship is at a given time.
  • Don't You Dare Pity Me!: During an unarchived karaoke stream consisting entirely of acoustic songs, she tried to scold the chat for getting emotional at her song choices (of which at least one was dedicated to a real-life friend.)
  • Drives Like Crazy: Despite driving in real life, her driving in skills in certain games leave much room to be desired. Her Cyberpunk 2077 streams consist her riding a motorcycle and constantly running people over, crashing into walls, or getting hit by cars after steering into their path.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness:
    • She initially tried to speak with a higher-pitched voice that hid her natural Australian accent but eventually settled to user her more natural voice (and accent) over time. She does occasionally bring out "Debut Bae" when chat asks for it.
    • Her debut lore gave her age as "roll a dice", as in her age would change each time depending on a dice roll. Later on, she cringed at this concept, remarking she didn't know what she was thinking coming up with this, and ended up switching to ageing every leap year.
  • Empathy Pet: Lord Squeakers’ expressions match Bae's and his eyes blink alongside her own.
  • Fangirl: Of Amanda Lee, whose covers she has listened to for years. She was absolutely ecstatic when the singer and voice actress sent her DMs.
  • Fashionable Asymmetry: Played with; her silhouette in the "Omen" reveal video was mostly symmetrical, with more attention being drawn to her off-kilter twintails as a sign of her possibly chaotic nature, however, the full reveal of her design showcases half of her design with red and half with yellow on her sleeves and socks. She also wears a single glove on her right hand because, in her own words, she's "freaking edgy".
  • Fiery Redhead: Her hair is red, matching her at times Hot-Blooded, Tsundere personality.
  • Fourth-Date Marriage: Exaggerated and Played for Laughs with IRyS - the two of them go from flirting to Happily Married to Awful Wedded Life all in the same Minecraft stream, with their very next collab ending with Bae divorcing IRyS after she beats her at Yahtzee.
  • Full-Name Basis: Owing to the both of them having their proper first names being forgotten in favor of their nicknames, Bae and Bijou have made it a point to refer to each other by full names.
  • Full-Name Ultimatum: She asks to be called by her nickname since someone using her full name usually means trouble. The one exception to this is Kiara, who always defaulted to saying "Baelz". Much later, Bijou would join in response to Bae avoiding Bijou's own nickname in favor of her official name.
  • Funny Background Event: Her VRChat model provides a hefty amount of this in group streams. Aside from the model itself being inherently funny-looking, Bae is most commonly seen goofing off in the distance, inexplicably doing backflips, or just standing around staring directly at the camera as if photobombing her fellow idols.
  • Fun Size:
    • The shortest member of her generation. She can also shrink herself down to rat size whenever she chooses to.
    • This extends to real life. She wears heels because she wants the added height and, according to Calli and IRyS, she has the hands of a twelve year old. Her height also makes certain sports like volleyball very difficult for her.
  • Furry Reminder: Being a rat, she will constantly insist upon her engaging in actual rat habits like scavenging for food or scurrying in the sewers.
    • The early parts of her first Minecraft stream were dedicated to scavenging for food in the middle of the server's settled area, which included nibbling on decorative plants and digging around for leftovers in Ina's trashcan.
    • Another Minecraft stream sees Bae accidentally break into the Bunkeronii repeatedly from its ceiling while mining for resources. She lampshades her resemblance to an actual rat burrowing in a house the first time she does it, then Ame chimes in later with "Bae's tunneling like the rat she is".
  • The Gadfly: The most mischievous member of her gen. Being The Prankster, quite a few of her pranks fall under verbal territory where she enjoys messing around with her friends.
  • Genki Girl: Right up there with Ollie, being very energetic.
  • God of Chaos: Not an actual god, but the very concept of Chaos.
  • Gosh Dang It to Heck!: Initially, swearing and cursing was relatively rare for her and would substitute phrases like "god damn". After 2023, swearing became increasingly common with Bae constantly dropping F-bombs.
  • Gratuitous French: She attempts to do French at the beginning of her ratatouille cooking stream; she immediately realizes she doesn't actually know how to speak it.
"Bonjour, je m'appelle... rat! Um... Omlete du fromage, uhh... ugh... I don't know any other French."
  • Hard-Drinking Party Girl: Bae likes to drink during parties to "get the mood up a little bit" and with her low alcohol tolerance, she gets drunk quite easily. Fortunately, she limits herself to getting majorly drunk no more than once a month.
  • Happily Adopted: Bae is one of several small/young-looking girls who have a habit of collecting moms throughout Hololive. The original three from each branch were: Ollie (ID), Fauna (EN), and Mio (JP). She later adds Choco, and A-chan.
  • Heh Heh, You Said "X": Bae's response to IRyS adding "pp" to her "Oui oui", leading to the meme "Oui Oui pp". This resulted in Bae laughing uncontrollably for ages.
  • Helium Speech: Sometimes streams with a filter that pitches up her voice to squeaky levels, which she does so when she's in "Baeby" form.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: With Mumei, with it being stated several times that the two of them are best friends. Aside from IRyS, Mumei is perhaps the one Bae most frequently collabs or interacts with. The irony of them being an owl and rat is not lost on them.
  • Hidden Depths: While it has long since been mentioned that Bae had a long history of dancing, no one was able to anticipate the extent of her skill when showcased in 3D, being one of the best dancers in Hololive and giving possibly the most difficult solo dance choreography in the 4th Holofest, which Bae reveals was a self-made choreography. Kiara, who is a skilled dancer in her own right, would declare Bae the best dancer in EN.

    I-Y
  • Informed Attribute: She is stated to be physical personification of Chaos... but what exactly that means and what abilities it gives her is scarcely elaborated on, with Bae mostly being treated as an ordinary rat by everyone else.
  • In-Series Nickname: She is almost unanimously referred to as "Bae", with her fullname of Baelz becoming virtually unheard of, with Kiara and A-chan being the only ones to still go by her fullname. It got the point that on the rare occasion when someone does call her "Baelz" it'll get met with the response "Who's Baelz?"
    • Among the JP girls, she is either referred to as Bae-chan, Hakos-chan / Hakos, or by the nickname "Hakotaro" that was started by Polka.
    • Aside from these main ones, Bae has a notorious habit of picking up nicknames from others (usually her fans), which got to the point where she acquired so many that she ended up doing a stream to rank all her nicknames, with over 50 in total!
  • In the Name of the Moon: In October 2023, she created a new, longer greeting that has been described as so chuuni in nature, she cringes every time she uses it.
"Wazzup! I am Chaos. The end of ends. A steel rose trapped in a cage of ice. Your best friend, Baelz Hakos from HoloEN. Witness me!"
  • Informed Attribute: Her lore denotes her as being the embodiment of Chaos, but as noticed by herself and her fans, Bae scarcely does anything that is chaotic and this part of her lore often gets forgotten. Bae herself has mentioned this before, joking about the rare occasions she remembers she is chaos.
  • Interface Screw: Her portion of the trailer is completely mirrored and upside-down, both her portrait and her description. Most of her tweets also use upside-down and flipped text, with exception when she really wants to be polite to her senpais.
    Twitter Profile: ƎNOZ N∩Ⅎ ƎH⊥ O⊥ ƎWOϽ˥ƎM
  • Irony: Despite being the embodiment of Chaos, she was appointed by the Gods to be The Leader of the Council. In other words, she is responsible for maintaining order among the five. And despite being an incarnation of Chaos, she is not significantly more chaotic than any of the other four Council members. Sometimes she's even less so. And that's especially noticeable during the Council-wide collabs. This leads to a invokedfan theory that Bae does not so much actively cause chaos as she does attract it, i.e. she is a Weirdness Magnet and her presence warps the other members into becoming chaotic.
  • Irrational Hatred: Played for Laughs in her Va 11 Hall A playthrough where she shows a strong dislike towards fan-favorite Dorothy due to the sheer amount of suggestive and explicit dialogue coming out of a Sexbot with a child-like body. Bae does warm up to her eventually, though.
  • Kindhearted Cat Lover: Bae eventually adopted a stray kitten she named "The Beast" or "Beastie" for short, who would live with Bae for 5 months before she was sadly forced to find a new home for her.
  • Lady Swears-a-Lot: While initially tried to avoid it, Bae slowly started picking up a tendency to swear onstream, with it being an especially frequent occurrence in the later half of 2023. It got to the point that in the "Hololive Mario Kart New Year 2024 Cup" introduction montage animation, where each girl was allowed to pick a quote to accompany their introduction, Bae's quote was "I F**KING LOVE THIS GAME."
  • Land Down Under: Like Sana, Bae also speaks with an Aussie accent (though during her debut at least it was somewhat hard to tell). Unlike the former, Bae has confirmed on multiple occasions her country is indeed Australia, with her residence being somewhere around the East Coast area.
  • Last-Name Basis:
    • Initially a lot of JP senpais called her "Hakos-chan". This difference in naming caused confusion among the JP girls when they see her Minecraft username "whatabae" and led them to wonder who she was, until chat explained she was "Hakos-chan". After meeting her in person, a few of the JP girls have taken to addressing her as "Bae-chan".
    • All the members of Holostars Tempus HQ call her the very formal Hakos-Senpai, notable because only the JP side ever referred to her by her second name before.
  • The Leader: Designated as such by the Gods, but she herself considers this an In Name Only designation and tends to get treated more as The Baby of the Bunch.
  • Like Mother, Like Daughter: With Ollienote . First off, Bae and Ollie resemble one another, having red hair that with white streaks and styled on two segments hanging from the sides of the head (buns for Ollie, twintails for Bae). Both can be very energetic, have No Indoor Voice, and are savvy in three languages. Both have stated to have similar interests, with the most notable one being an aversion to horror, that both are terrified of. Both have also been revealed to have written fanfiction in the past.
  • Little Bit Beastly: Weirdly enough, despite having two giant mouse ears on top of her head, she also sports human ears on the sides. Supposedly, the two pairs of ears let her hear things more clearly than she would be able to with just one.
  • Mad Bomber: Several games have her blowing stuff up, even when that's not the primary objective. In essence, if an explosion is even possible by the physics of the game, Bae will somehow make it happen.
    • In her Cooking Simulator stream, her attempts to cook salmon somehow led her to throw gas canisters into a fire.
    • Her first Minecraft stream had her goal being making something go boom. She ends up blowing a hole in a mountain using TNT.
    • In her 2022, New Year celebration stream she played Firework Mania and started off by piling up fireworks and lighting them all at once. She later found a gas station and used a stack of fireworks to blow it up, and finally finished off by doing the same to a barn.
  • Masochist's Meal: The whole point of her "BAE-gemite Domination" mini-series. She challenges the various members of hololive to smell test and eat vegemite by itself, straight from the jar, which even vegemite enthusiasts avoid recommending. She also offers the option to spread it on bread slices, but she calls it "the baby option" to trick them into eating it straight up. Much of the cast can be seen recoiling from the aftertaste and/or heard gagging, much to Bae's amusement.
  • Meaningful Name: "Hakos" is actually an anagram of the name Khaos, the progenitor of Greek Mythology. Fittingly enough, she is considered The Leader of the Council, whose names are mostly from Greek Mythology and Roman Mythology. Meanwhile, "Baelz" is an anagram of "Blaze", with fire often being used to represent Chaos.
  • Mister Big: Not evil, but the leader of Council and the shortest member by far at 149 cm.
  • Motifs: Dice and cheese. The former is even her official oshi mark.
  • Mouse Trap: She has one clipped on one rat ear. According to one of her Coffee n Chill streams, it's an earring.
  • Must Have Caffeine: Her favorite beverage is coffee. More to the point, during Calli's stream of Jump King, she admitted she can't live without it. While also playing during Calli's Jump King challenge in March of 2022, she admitted to Calli, Fauna, and IRyS that she once allowed herself to consume four-shot espresso drinks every day. She admits it was a bad decision since she had easy access to them at the time.
  • My Eyes Are Up Here: Said word for word in a Pokémon Brilliant Diamond stream, when the chat complained about the lack of cleavage unlike what was shown in the thumbnail.
  • Nice Mice: Well, rat. For someone who's the embodiment of chaos (in lore), Bae is a rat girl who tries to be friendly to her close friends and her audience, and she's very energetic. This doesn't mean she won't pull the occasional joke, though.
  • The Nicknamer: Usually not for her fellow talents, but for in-game NPCs who are not given proper names, Bae has a tendency to assign them placeholder names to refer to them by.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: She is near universally referred to as "Bae" among the English community, while most of the Japanese crowd go with Last-Name Basis and call her "Hakos". Kiara is one of the few who still consistently addresses her as "Baelz". Though as time went on even the JP crowd eventually turned to referring to her as Bae-chan. It has gotten to the point that when anyone calls her by her full name it gets met with much confusion.
  • Only Sane Man: Incredibly ironic considering she is the living embodiment of chaos, but quite often Bae takes up this role and becomes the voice of reason, particularly when she's with Mumei and becomes the Cloudcuckoolander's Minder.
  • The Password Is Always "Swordfish": A running joke is Bae tends to use "1111" for her passwords.
    • In a 2023 New Years offcollab with Fauna and Mumei, where the three girls got drunk, Bae accidentally quit the OBS app and had to log back in. She however showed the app login screen onstream, revealing her password to be "1111".
    • During a stream of Palworld, Bae sets a lock on the door to keep her "husband" Speedwagon in, and Bijou out, even wisely turning off the screen so nobody can see what her code is. Bijou guesses 1111 and she turns out to be right.
  • Person as Verb: During a Gartic Phone stream where Bae played with her chat, Bae noticed one particular player named "Zaid" having a tendency to oversimplify the previous art prompt and causing the art to drastically diverge. She then decided to name this act as the game being "Zaied".
  • Phrase Catcher: Downplayed, but almost every time a Japanese member sees her name in Minecraft note , their eventual response is some variation of "I thought it might be Watame."
  • Pop-Cultural Osmosis Failure: Bae often runs afoul of this trope due to her unfamiliarity with popular trends of the late 90s and early noughties. As a result, jokes and references often go sailing over her head. There have been several instances she has not heard of a TV show, game, song, or movie that the other girls are familiar with, to the surprise/amusement of her colleagues or her viewers. Some of this may be a result of a Culture Clash due to her growing up in Australia, others (including herself) chalk this up to Bae being a "zoomer" and that she's too young to get these references, or while another explanation discussed is Bae barely watches movies period. This is in stark contrast to Vesper Noir, whose knowledge of nineties items and terms firmly puts in the "boomer" category, and even IRyS, who's old enough to fondly remember about Game Boy Advance while Bae doesn't.
Commenter: Okay, this isn't a Zoomer thing anymore. I'm starting to suspect that Bae was actually Amish before joining Hololive.
  • The Prankster: Give her enough time to concoct a plan and she'll unleash chaos on everyone she knows.
    • In Minecraft, she has a rat-shaped house where the front 'mouth' is actually a trap in the form of a deadly pit. Nearly every JP girl has fallen victim to it when visiting the EN server.
    • She called Kronii and deeply apologized for accidentally blowing her house via Creeper. Kronii, sleepy and tired, wasn't bothered at all, but had to log in and see in person that no damage was done.
    • She tried to interrupt IRyS' stream by yelling "bananas", but unfortunately IRyS had her call volume lowered at the time.
    • She called up Mumei in the middle of a stream to take advantage of her forgetful nature to inform her that she posted all over Twitter wishing her a happy birthday.
    • She tried to prank call Ina with a neverending pizza order, but Ina proved to be too savvy and reversed Bae's own prank on her.
    • While playing Minecraft, with Gura in voice chat, she quotes verbatim Gura's own prank call on Ina, with Ina also playing Minecraft and then quoting Gura's response to when she turned the prank against her in the chat. Gura was left flabbergasted.
    • She intentionally sabotages the last round of Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes with Kiara, who responds by frying Bae alive and eating her.
    • After returning to Minecraft after a hiatus during April, Bae decided to prank several EN members by building a secret room in their house, doing so to IRyS, Kronii, and Ina.
  • Predator-Prey Friendship: In his debut stream, Lord Squeakers claimed to have initially thought Bae had an imaginary friend when she told him that her new best friend was an owl, and that she chose a species that eats rats to be edgy, but upon meeting Mumei he had to concede that she was quite real and was, in fact, Bae's best friend.
    • Later emphasized when they adopted "PreYdator" as their sub-unit name when they did their first duet single.
  • Precision F-Strike: Initially, Bae tried to avoid swearing, expressing discomfort with doing it onstream. This has changed over time and as of later 2023, began swearing enough to verge into Lady Swears-a-Lot.
  • Pungeon Master: While not to the extent of Ina or IRyS, Bae is also fond of coming up with puns for her name or the word rat.
  • Relationship Revolving Door: Her relationship with IRyS, to the confusion of literally everyone.
Ollie: Tell me, what is your relationship with IRyS? I get confused a lot.
    Bae: Oh yeah, me too.
  • Scary Teeth: Her mouth is drawn with rows of jagged teeth, similar to Gura's, though her model actually has bottom teeth.
  • Self-Applied Nickname: Bae has come up with quite a few of these for herself. Some of them include: Toxictaronote , Baetman, Agent 3003, and Baebynote
  • Self-Backing Vocalist: In her MV of Future Star - Kyoukai no Kanata, three versions of Bae appear together and all three with singing parts.
  • Signature Laugh: She has a high-pitched, distinctive Pikamee-esque wheezing laughter that has been compared to a kettle sound or a train whistle.
  • Separated by a Common Language: When asked by chat "Bae, candy or sweets?", she insists confectionaries should be called "lollies", as is the norm in Australian English. Naturally, chat spun it as her saying "lolis" and spamming invoked"FBI OPEN UP!" in chat, much to her confusion.
  • Sibling Rivalry: With Bijou. After Bijou added Ollie to her mom collection, this revelation established Bae as being her older sister. This would lead Bae and Bijou to bicker and fight like sisters.
  • Singing Voice Dissonance: Her normal speaking voice is squeaky and excitable, but her singing voice is that of a rock vocalist on par with Watame's. She can notably change into her cutesy pitch midway through a song.
  • Suddenly Shouting: While Bae isn't typically the loud type, she has a habit of yelling out things in excitement without warning.
  • That Woman Is Dead: Played for Laughs. Bae seems to treat the early days of her streaming career where she spoke with a higher-pitched voice, dubbed "Debut Bae", as a separate individual who is referred to in third person. Bae also affirms that Debut Bae is gone, though is still inside her and sometimes makes sporadic appearances.
  • Third-Person Person: A variant. While Bae rarely refers to herself by her name, she does at times have a tendency to use third person pronouns like "she" and "her" in place of "I" and "me".
  • Token Mini-Moe: Bae is often treated as The Baby of the Bunch by the other girls due to her short stature and Genki Girl personality. The later reveal that she is actually 12 years oldnote , firmly puts her as this.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: With IRyS, being the tomboy to IRyS' girly girl. Bae is easily one of the most tomboyish members of EN (alongside Calli), with Bae dressing like a rebellious street-punk, speaks in Totally Radical lingo, and doesn't shy away from acting brash and unladylike onstream with her anger outbursts. IRyS on the other hand is one of (if not the most) girly members of EN, having a polite ladylike attitude, having cutesy and girly interests, and dresses in a very elegant dress.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: Despite dressing and talking like a delinquent in her default outfit, Bae has shown knowledge and interest in a lot of girly topics, most notably the Barbie movies.
  • Totally Radical: Bae's standard way of speaking makes use of a lot of this with common choices being "Yo!" and "Wazzup!"
  • Too Many Belts: Has two - one black and one white - seemingly left permanently undone. Just like with her solitary glove, it's just there because she considers herself edgy.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Strawberries. She frequently brings up her love of strawberries onstream, and cites it fits her perfectly given her red color scheme, and declared hardly a "Strawberry Princess". She ended up costing a strawberry wine factory on her birthday, and made strawberry themed merchandise for her 2023 birthday.
  • Troll: If there is a game where the narrator demands her to follow what they say and she has the option not to follow what they say, she will absolutely defy them for the fun of it, with the most mischievous attitude possible.
  • Tsundere: Her overall behavior around IRyS, with most of their post-divorce interactions having the nephilim chasing to mend their relationship only to get turned down by Bae every time. That, despite the fact that when IRyS was delaying her own stream to watch Bae's Inuyasha karaoke stream, she received a dedicated song from the rat, along with kisses, and a tiny "I love you" after getting called out for not starting her stream.
  • Vague Age:
    • How old is Bae? Roll a die (of any size, at that - be it 1d6, 1d100, or even 1d9,999,999) and whatever number it lands on, that's how old she is. This isn't just figurative, as when a game requires to give her age she will ask if anyone has a die so she can find out her age for the day.
    • As her first birthday stream in 2022 approached, Bae decided to settle on being 12, but also claimed she had been around for eons. In her 2022 birthday stream she declared that she was actually 12.5 billion years old! This however seems to vary by occasion, as there are many occasions where Bae infers that she is literally 12 years old, like her childishness and her tendency to experience Pop-Cultural Osmosis Failure being attributed to her young age.
    • Bae later tweaks this even further, deciding she would only age only every Leap Year due to her "real" birthday being on February 29th. So in 2024, Bae would finally age to 13, although still flip-flopping from being literally 13 years old or 13 (billion) years old depending on the current circumstances.
  • Verbal Tic:
    • When speaking Japanese, she sometimes ends her sentences with "-gozaru".
    • "Don't worry about it" to dismiss someone else's doubts or concerns over what she is doing or will do.
    • "BIG BRAIN!" for whenever she figures something out, while on a similar note "Bae is stoopid" when she messes something up or makes a mistake.
    • "You're doing great" when reassuring or motivating others in a game, especially Fauna during Resident Evil 7.
    • "That's just rude"/"That's so rude" when an NPC or opposing player beats her or startles her with an unexpected move.
    • "Nyahuh" instead of "uh-huh", especially during more comedic bits.
    • She also says "You right" so frequently that she made a soundboard of it, as evidenced by her occasionally just spamming it in collabs.
    • She tends to vocalize "Question mark" at the end of a sentence, to put emphasis on her uncertainty over a statement.
  • Vocal Evolution: Her voice changed quite drastically, being really high-pitched and squeaky during her debut and early days, but later becoming more deeper and lower for a female voice. This is especially apparent when Bae did a rewatch of her debut stream during her anniversary, where there was a huge contrast in voices to her past self which the present Bae found to be really cringe. Bae would later refer to this early voice as "Debut Bae" to distinguish from her later voice.
  • Vocal Dissonance: For a small rat girl, Bae's voice gets surprisingly deep at times, with only Kronii's voice being firmly deeper than hers out of Council. Bae herself seems to be aware of that, having already used her "morning voice" to convincingly prank Kronii in Minecraft once.
  • What Are Records?: Infamous among her fanbase (and Vesper Noir) for her blatant comic-level ignorance of anything before the turn of the millennium, including pagers, VCRs, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and even the PS1. Even icons slightly after 2000 aren't safe, such as Teen Titans.
  • What the Hell Is That Accent?: During her debut, there was a lot of confusion from viewers as to what her accent was, with guesses ranging from Australian, New Zealand, British, Texan, Brooklyn, and even Bostonian. Bae would later confirm she is indeed Australia, living somewhere along the East Coast. Her accent is so thick that it causes misunderstanding on some occasions.
Bae: I don't wanna lose a lot of wood, but y'know what? Burning is worth it. [Looks at the comments mishearing "burning" into "boning"] I said burning! I said burning, not boning!
  • Woman of a Thousand Voices:
    • She has quite a voice range and takes great pride in it. Bae finally got to showcase her versatility with her original series "Baewatch" where she voices a class of six girls all with different voices.
    • During her Rat Reviews, she managed to pull off a decent Marine and a very convincing Miko, all while being very, very tipsy.
    • She actually impersonated IRyS on IRyS's channel for a puzzle stream, doing a pretty good job of replicating her pitch and vocal mannerisms, though her Australian accent does bleed through at points.
  • The Workaholic:
    • Streams the most frequently out of her generation (sometimes twice or more a day), is always very eager to take part in collabs, and has admitted that a normal night's sleep for her is often only around three hours long.
    • Come the first of February 2022, Bae announced her intentions to stream every single day for the entire month.
  • You Dirty Rat!: A chaotic trickster in rat form.

Other characters

    Mr. Squeaks

Lord Lord "Mr. Squeaks" Squeakers

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hqdefault_3663.jpg

Bae's mascot, being the Head Pet rat who sits on top of her head, who also happens to be her legal guardian. He finally got his own solo debut stream on August 22, 2022.

  • Ambiguously Related: In his solo debut stream, he finally dispels the myth that he is Bae's child. He reveals he is Bae's guardian and he is in fact older than her.
  • Ascended Extra: He goes from being Bae's mascot to a fully fleshed out character given his own debut stream.
  • Deadpan Snarker: His entire debut stream is full of him snarking at Bae and chat, constantly belittling their inapptitude.
  • Do Not Call Me "Paul": He'd much prefer that people not call him Lord Squeakers, instead preferring Mr. Squeaks. He acknowledges that it's not technically incorrect to call him Lord Squeakers though, due to his title. Though as of 2023, Bae has started calling him "Squeakers".
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: His first speaking appearance was technically in the very first Council collab. Here he had a very different personality, lacking the British Gentleman Snarker characterisation that would present a year later in his personal debut stream. He also sounded quite different, more akin to Bae putting on a higher-pitched voice, rather than actually modulating her voice higher which would later become his default voice.
  • I Am Very British: Speaks in Received Pronunciation and happens to be an actual British lord.
  • I Need a Freaking Drink: He admits to drinking in order to dull the pain of having to watch over Bae 24/7. That said he denies being an alcoholic and takes a moment to advise viewers to please drink responsibly.
  • Inexplicably Identical Individuals: While it’s not uncommon for mascots of fandom representations to look identical, he holds the distinction of looking identical to the Brats.
  • Gentleman Snarker: Talks like a classy British man, but his dialogue is overflowing with snark towards Bae and chat.
  • His Name Really Is "Barkeep": His name is Lord Squeakers, and he also happens to be an actual Lord, making him Lord Lord Squeakers.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He may not have much nice to say about Bae, but he does give her genuine praise from time to time and says that all he really wants from her is to see her succeed.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Despite sitting on Bae's head all the time, he scarcely pays attention to what Bae is up to, as a result he can be surprised by some of the information revealed about Bae.
  • Odd Friendship: With Mumei. While he had doubts about Bae befriending an owl he came to find out she was in fact very real. He actually speaks very highly of Mumei, much more than he does Bae or her other colleagues.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: "Mr. Squeaks" was the name that everyone called him (and the name he prefers) before he debuted his own stream and properly introduced himself. As of 2023, Bae has taken to calling him "Squeakers".
  • Only Sane Man: He acts like this after having to deal with Bae's shenanigans for a year, belittling her lifestyle, poor spelling and grammar, her revealing personal information, and her sleeping habits.
  • Smart People Speak the Queen's English: He claims to have the one braincell between him and Bae, and he's very British.
  • Your Size May Vary: Usually he is small enough to sit on Bae's head, beingn about the size of her ears. But in Bae's 3D showcase when he is given free reign, he is about the size of her whole head.

    Baewatch cast

Baewatch cast

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/baewatch.jpg
From left to right: Murasaki, Itsuko, Hatsuna, Fumi, Miyu, Shiika

Baewatch is a series created by Hakos Baelz, presented in a Visual Novel format. It is a Schoolgirl Series following the adventures of six high school (rat) girls: Murasaki, Itsuko, Hatsuna, Fumi, Miyu, and Shiika. All of the cast are voiced by Bae herself, with the exception of the teacher who is voiced by Yagoo.
While originally a Show Within a Show, gradually they started getting treated as real individual characters. Murasaki would appear during Bae's 2021 Christmas stream, while in Episode 3 of Baewatch the rest of the girls acknowledge Bae as the director of their show.

  • A Day in the Limelight: The Beach Episode special would have each of the six girls having a short all to themselves where they have a play date with the viewer.
  • Bespectacled Cutie: Itsuko is a meganekko who is shy and timid, with a tendency for Apologises a Lot.
  • Cool Big Sis: Murasaki is the older onee-san type, who speaks seductively and dotes on all the other girls.
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: Shiika gives off these vibes, showing up late to school and coming up with a garbled excuse.
  • Genki Girl: Hatsuna is the most enthusiastic girl of the group, eternally upbeat and cheerful.
  • Identical Twin ID Tag: Out of all the girls, Hatsuna and Miyu share the strongest physical resemblance. The main distinguishing feature between them is Hatsuna has a yellow scarf while Miyu has a blue scarf.
  • Passionate Sports Girl: Shiika's Summer episode reveals her to be an ardent lover of volleyball.
  • Shrinking Violet: Miyu is soft-spoken and shy, being a girl of few words.
  • Significant Birth Date: Episode 2 reveals Fumi was born on Christmas Day, which has led to her birthday too often get neglected due to the festivities.
  • Token Mini-Moe: Itsuko is characterised as the small child-like girl among the cast.
  • Tsundere: Fumi tends to give off an icy exterior at first and can come off as rude and abrasive, but she gradually mellows out in the company of her friends.

    Hayko

Hayko

A member of holoMinistry, as well as the Spear Counterpart and cousin of Bae.

For more information on holoMinistry as a whole, see this page.

  • Ascended Extra: While initially only appearing alongside the rest of the Ministry boys, Bae would end up featuring him a lot in her own channel. He often appears in singing roles like in duet covers with Calvin or Bae herself.
  • Black Sheep: Bae doesn't like her cousin Hayko, to put it lightly. She has gone out of her way to ignore him and make sure he is unable to interact with her. In her own words, "He's a dick."
  • Butt-Monkey: Much like his cousin, Hayko doesn't have the best luck. His attempt to flirt on Twitter ends with Calli and IRyS threatening to punch him. His first night as a host ends with him in massive debt after getting scammed by Zeta and Anya.
  • Clashing Cousins: Bae makes no attempt to hide her utter contempt about Hayko, taking every second to roast him if he is ever brought up or sometimes refusing to acknowledge his existence. Hayko on the other hand is heartbroken that Bae has become so cold and distance to him and yearns for the early days when they were closer.
  • Extreme Doormat: Bae slanders him every time he is brought up, yet he never retaliates and quietly accepts all the insults.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Bae considers him to being an obnoxious douche and is ashamed of being related to him. Even C-Man, Mori Calliope's Spear Counterpart who was made to be just as insufferable, can't stand him. The only person who might like him is Ironmouse, if only because she likes jerks as her favourite type of boys.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: Or in this case, cousin. Apparently he's such an oddball that Bae never mentioned him out of embarrassment. Bae will often blast Hayko for his idiotic and often flirtatious behavior, with the notable one being getting tricked into debt at the Host club.
  • Jaded Washout: The "2023 HoloEN Calendar" reveals he once had a much closer relationship with his cousin Bae, but at some point she shut him out and became cold towards him. Hayko now yearns for the days when he was on better terms with his cousin.
  • Only One Name: His name is based off Bae's family name rather than her given name, which as a result left him with only one name.
  • Singing Voice Dissonance: Hayko's singing voice is drastically different from his speaking voice, where his standard speaking voice is very deep, while his singing voice is much more high-pitched and befitting of a stereotypical bishonen boy.

    Little Bae

Little Bae

Bae as a 5 year old rat. She debuts in her own stream on October 23, 2022.
  • Ambiguous Situation: It's unclear if she is an Alternate Self, a time-displaced Bae from the past, or the main Bae turning younger from a Fountain of Youth situation. What is clear is she coexists in the same time period as the main 12 year old Bae due to seeing a stream for "Hakos Baelz" that was not her doing.
  • Children Are Innocent: In contrast to the main 12 year old Bae, who can be snarky and mischievous, Little Bae is incredibly naive, sweet, and polite.
  • Elmuh Fudd Syndwome: Talks in this manner where she mispronounces a lot of letters.
  • Hollywood Tone-Deaf: Her appearance in the 2022 Hololive EN Advent Calendar has her singing Christmas carols wildly off-key in a Cute, but Cacophonic manner.
  • Literal-Minded: Due to her young age she will take the literal meaning of certain words, such as mistaking YouTube being called "a platform" as a literal platform to stand on.
  • Predator-Prey Friendship: Much like the older Bae, Little Bae is also associated with Mumei who is an owl. While Mumei has implied her intents on eating the young rat, she still insists that she is a friend.
  • Super-Deformed: Little Bae consists of Bae's default look being squashed down to the size of a small child.
