IGN: PearlescentMoon
Preferred name: Pearl
First Joined: Last Life
Active Seasons: 2, 3, 4, 5
A talented builder and loyal friend. Pearl is a soft-spoken, cheerful and friendly person who's more than happy to make friends with anything and anyone she sees. However, she's also got zero qualms about killing those who cross her, and while she's loyal to her closest allies, everyone else she's willing to throw under the bus at a moment's notice if it benefits her.
  • Animal Lover: She has had some kind of pet in every season of the Life series she appears in. In Last Life, she has her axolotls; in Double Life, she has Tilly and her other wolves; in Limited Life, she has Froggy the cat and a few actual frogs; and in Secret Life, she has her wolves Matchbox and Mailbox, various other unnamed wolves, and debatably, the Murder Camel.
  • Sleep Deprivation: Discussed on a meta level; Pearl lives in Australia in real life and the Life series is filmed very early in the morning in her time zone. This is often suggested to be the cause of her at-times unhinged behaviour throughout the series, especially in Double Life.

Last Life

Faction: The Scottage/Three Gs/Gaslight Gatekeep Girlboss, Survivors, Larger Red Alliance
Pearl teams up with Scott for protection, with the promise that she will grant him a life if they keep each other safe, and they set up a base together in a taiga biome near spawn. She winds up giving him two lives to ensure he'd keep himself out of Red, and the two of them forge a strong friendship.

Pearl starts on the creation of the Green Lives Club, a club only for people with three or more lives. After a few locations for the club were discovered and destroyed, she decides to build it in the mountains, far away from any established bases. The Green Lives Club never truly comes to fruition however, as by the time it is ready, every faction has completely collapsed, and the Club ends up being used as a hiding place for the remaining Survivors…

Except housing the Greens has never truly been its purpose, as the entire club is rigged with TNT. Pearl manages to blow up the Club and take out Ren when she becomes the Boogeyman on Day 9, rendering the Green Lives Club practically unusable, especially since Scott had turned Red and knew where it was. After Pearl is brought down to Red herself, however, she confronts Joel about killing her axolotls, and throws a potion of harming at him, immediately fracturing the semi-stable truce between the Reds. She helps the Larger Red Alliance hunt down Grian and Joel, and dies for good during the final battle.

Day Change Cause Lives remaining
1 -1 Gave one to Scott 5
2 -1 Gave one to Scott 4
2 +1 Bought one from Lizzie for the enchanter 5
3 -1 Boogeyman-killed by Lizzie 4
8 -1 Shot by a skeleton while running from Scar 3
8 -1 Killed by Joel 2
9 -1 Blown up with fireworks by Grian and Joel 1
9 -1 Killed by Ren (Final Battle) 0

  • Foil: To Scott. Scott and Pearl are close allies and immensely loyal to one another, but where Scott is pacifistic and prefers to resolve things with words, Pearl is decidedly not. This was most evident on Days 8 and 9; when Scott becomes Boogeyman on Day 8, he immediately tells his allies, and voluntarily goes Red at the end of the day because he doesn't want to betray them. When Pearl becomes the Boogeyman on Day 9, she stays silent about it, and instead of trying to just kill one person to get rid of the curse, she tries to kill all of the remaining Survivors with her TNT trap in the Green Lives Club (though she only manages to get Ren).
  • In-Series Nickname: Of the Three Gs, she's "Girlboss".
  • Last of His Kind: This was temporary. She was the final Dark Green name, but she ignored any advantages or disadvantages it may have brought her.
  • Properly Paranoid: At the beginning of Day 3, she is nervous when she and Scott are doing separate tasks and jumps at every sound, as she thinks that Joel, who she brought down to his last life, is probably going to come for her first. Sure enough, she returns to their base later and discovers a TNT minecart trap which didn't go off due to the explosives being in the wrong spot. Joel soon reveals himself to ask why it didn't work.
  • Put on a Bus: She was absent during the latter half of Day 7 due to a power outage.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Had her power in real life not gone out, the second half of Day 7 would have been very different. If she wasn't forced to leave, then Martyn wouldn't have been selected as the Boogeyman during the reroll. If Martyn hadn't been the Boogeyman, he would have had no reason to turn on Grian and inadvertently give Joel the chance to swoop in and kill him. If Grian hadn't died, then he wouldn't have teamed up with Impulse to summon the Wither in an attempt to kill Etho, which would result in the deaths of Impulse, Bdubs, and Lizzie.

Double Life

Paired with: Scott
Pearl starts the series going along with Martyn's adventures on Day 1, only for the two to find their respective soulmates, Scott and Cleo, have teamed up and left them for each other at the end of the session. Only relying on her Canine Companion Tilly, Pearl doesn't take this rejection well, and the loneliness slowly chips away at her mental stability for the rest of the season. While she teams up with Scott again on Day 5 as part of a Yellow Life alliance, she is only able to bring herself to forgive him posthumously (on both ends), after his sacrifice allows her to win the season.
Day Cause Lives remaining
4 Killed by Joel as revenge for stealing items 2
6 Died when her partner was killed by Joel 1
6 Died when her partner died from suicide 0

  • Abandonment-Induced Animosity: Grows very hostile towards her designated soulmate, Scott, for leaving her for his chosen soulmate, Cleo. This starts dying down on Day 5 when they have to team up again against the Red Lives.
  • Arc Words: In the season finale, Pearl repeatedly says "Something wicked this way comes". It's even used as her episode title.
  • Canine Companion: Tilly, her dog that she tamed on Day 1, who has consistently remained her companion for most of her adventures in the series.
  • Cuteness Proximity: To a frog she saw on Day 1 while chatting with Impulse and Bdubs.
  • Food as Bribe: On Day 5, Pearl tries to bribe BigB into giving her and her allies the Enchanting Table that the Reds looted from Scar with cookies. It doesn't work.
  • In-Series Nickname: While wearing her Red Life skin, Pearl is sometimes called "the Scarlet Pearl", and is deemed an honorary Red Life because of this. Most retrospective references to her in this state call her "5 AM Pearl" due to her content creator counterpart's time-zone issues.
  • Living Emotional Crutch: When everyone leaves her, Tilly is the only one who is there for Pearl; when Impulse burns Tilly in lava in the final battle, Pearl goes berserk and almost effortlessly kills Impulse, Bdubs, Cleo, and Martyn with an axe and her army of dogs.
  • Not Evil, Just Misunderstood: She just wants to have friends and is never actively malicious, but she keeps being blamed for deaths that are only indirectly caused by her.
Rendog: You came here and you caused death, whether you tried to or not. There's something wicked within you.
  • Psycho Ex-Girlfriend: Platonic variant, for obvious reasons.
    • She goes in this direction on Day 2 after being rejected by her soulmate, Scott, and abandoned by her only friend Martyn. She changes to her Red Life skin and frightens off other people with her tendency to remotely torture Scott by using powdered snow on herself. She calms down a bit on Day 5 once the two team up again, and it takes until the end of the series for Pearl to finally forgive Scott, after he allows her to win the series by taking himself out.
    • On Day 5, Grian and Scar try to exploit her reputation as this to hide out in her tower-base, and while Pearl is willing to accept them into the alliance, Scott objects as it's putting a target on their backs. Grian and Scar end up pulling a Screw This, I'm Outta Here with a boat when the Red Names indeed start surrounding the tower.
  • Sanity Slippage: As series goes on, loneliness and abandonment gets to her, she becomes more unhinged with each passing day. It culminates in last episode when she chants "Something wicked this way comes" before attacking Impulse and Bdubs, and then Martyn and Cleo, killing both in 1 vs 2 PVP fights and feeling no remorse after.
  • Wildlife Commentary Spoof: She briefly does this with a David Attenborough impression on Day 4 while watching Grian and Scar get hunted down by Red Names and Scar trading sand for his life and his horse back under her tower-base, though minus the fake and silly scientific names.

  • Accidental Misnaming: On Day 7, she accidentally calls Skizz "Nipples" because the latter is a Walking Shirtless Scene in only his red underpants at the time.
  • Blatant Lies: On Day 2, when Grian questions Pearl about the copious stacks of seeds in her faction's chests, she feigns innocence and says she got them from "the Rock", i.e. Entertainment Mountain… even though Jimmy caught her and her allies griefing the Bread Bridge earlier that day.
  • Blood Knight: Throughout Day 6, part of Pearl's commentary is dedicated to encouraging Lizzie to commit murder or start inter-faction conflict in her stead.
  • Can't Kill You, Still Need You: Near the end of Day 8, she voices this sentiment towards Impulse; even though she is tempted to knock him off of Skynet, she knows they have to work together against the Mean Gills.
  • Curiosity Killed the Cast: On Day 3, after learning from Cleo about the T.I.E.S. dropping TNT down from the skies, Pearl climbs up to investigate their Skynet, only to be spleefed to her doom by Impulse for his Boogeyman kill.
  • Cuteness Proximity: She makes plans to exploit this as a Yellow Life by inviting her server-mates to see her pet cat, then to push them into a pit trap she set up to kill them.
  • Didn't Think This Through: On Day 8, Pearl constructs her minigame trap out of wood even though it involves lava. Predictably, the structures catch on fire quickly.
  • The Dreaded: Attempted on Day 4 by prematurely switching to her Scarlet Pearl skin to incite some fear in her server-mates. However by this point, the server has long given in to chaos, with people dying in droves even before the Boogey gets picked for the session, so the impact from her appearance is lost in the series.
Pearl: I was just trying to mess up some minds a little bit, but everyone's already lost 'em!
  • Dual Wielding: On Day 1, Pearl finds two diamond hoes in the Woodland Mansion and proceeds to dual-wield them, though considering that Minecraft hoes are functionally not very useful in combat and that you can't properly dual-wield in Minecraft anyway, it's mainly for show and intimidation.
  • Idiot Ball: The first half of Day 5 features Pearl making many impulsive decisions, such as stealing the Mean Gills' enchantment table, refusing to give it back when Scott tries to blackmail her and Big B over the location of Judge Judy And Executioner the frog, and spleefing the frog while thinking it would survive. After the mid-session break, she acknowledges that she had no idea why she did all that, and her episode for the day is fittingly titled "No Braincells".
  • If I Can't Have You…: Subverted Trope. On Day 5, after Jimmy finds out where the Nosy Neighbours hid Judge Judy And Executioner the frog after stealing itnote , Pearl spleefs out the block under the poor frog and causes it to fall to its death in a ravine. Pearl later confesses that she thought Judge Judy and Executioner could survive the fall.
  • Interspecies Adoption: Discussed; Pearl's cat Froggy is named as such because it was raised by frogs. In actuality, she tamed the cat and it was named at Big B's original base in the mountainous savanna, where many frogs spawn.
  • Oh, Crap!: On Day 3, her episode briefly pauses on Scar's TNT minecart being ready to launch right next to her on the Bread Bridge. She gets away quickly enough from the trap, but it doesn't stop her from being killed by Scar by other means not two minutes later.
  • Neat Freak: While commentating on the events of Day 6, Pearl is quite bothered by Lizzie's messy inventory, then quickly backtracks as "this is Limited Life, not Hermitcraft [Season 9]" (where she plays a cleaning lady).
  • Put on a Bus: Played with. Since Pearl was in Japan for the recording session, Lizzie subs in for Pearl on Day 6. However, since they're playing on the same account, Lizzie has to very unconvincingly play Pearl for the session.
  • Wildlife Commentary Spoof: She briefly does this with a David Attenborough impression again while watching a fight on the Skynet between the Clockers, the Mean Gills, and the T.I.E.S. in the latter half of Day 7.
Pearl: Arrows be flying and people are turning into porcupines. I did not realize this was an animal documentary. Yet somehow, an arrow was flung my way. Do I get to pick that up? (reverting to her normal voice) I mean, sure! Keep at them! I want more arrows! Give them to me! The more I get to shoot you off with them!

Secret Life

Faction: The Mounders, the Big Dogs (Day 6, temporarily), the Infected (Day 7)

  1. On Day 1, Pearl's assigned task is to get three players to gift her a heart. She succeeds in this task by the end of the session through deals with Etho, Lizzie, and Jimmy.
  2. On Day 2, her assigned task is to send another player on a wild goose chase. She unknowingly succeeds in this task by the end of the session, using a trail of red terracotta blocks to lead Lizzie into a little cave she dug out. Amidst the confusion, however, she accidentally reveals her task right before pressing the button, ultimately resulting in a fail.
  3. On Day 3, her assigned task is to request an item five times in a conversation but never pick it up, without getting called out for this. She succeeds in this task by the end of the session while joking around with Bdubs, Tango, Etho, and Scott.
  4. On Day 4, her assigned task, submitted by Minijimi25, is to do whatever Impulse says the entire session; Impulse has to know about this. She succeeds in this task by the end of the session, though being dragged along for the Ender Dragon fights costs her most of her health.
  5. On Day 5, her assigned task, submitted by _term1576, is to essentially play Hot Potato with her secret task book, ensuring it's always in a player's inventory and to keep a slot in her own inventory open, while others have to try to return the book to her; if she has the book with her at the end of the session, she fails, and if anyone else has the book by the end of the session, they have to reroll for a hard task on Day 6.note  She succeeds in this task by the end of the session, condemning Etho to a reroll for the next session.
  6. On Day 6, her assigned task is to approach any or multiple Red Names to inform them of her current task and be instructed on how to damage a Green player; she passes if she hurts three different Green Names under such instructions, and fails if a Yellow Name calls her a traitor specifically. She succeeds in this task by the end of the session, setting Etho on fire at Lizzie's request, landing a crit on Skizz with a diamond sword after convincing him to give her a Protection III book at Jimmy's request, and dropping dripstone on Big B at Martyn's request.
  7. On Day 7, her initial assigned task, submitted by anon766, is to actively engage in Breaking the Fourth Wall halfway through conversations to turn to the camera and provide an inner monologue, and would succeed if no one calls her out by the mid-session break. This is negated when Gem infects her with the Boogeyman curse early into the session, causing her to adopt Gem's secret task of spreading the infection across the server. She fails at this task by the end of the session, failing to infect Cleo, Grian, Scott in the end.
  8. On Day 8, her assigned task is to leave 8 different conversations or encounters in a creative, unique way. She fails at this task by the end of the session.
  9. On Day 9, her assigned task as a Red Life is the same as everybody else: to win Secret Life. She fails at this task by the end of the session.

Day Cause Lives remaining
7 Killed in Gem's TNT minecart trap set up in Scar's base for the Infection 2
8 Killed by Gem as she tries to complete her secret task 1
9 Shot off a ledge by Scar 0

  • Accidental Murder: On Day 8, she accidentally kills Grian by shooting him, thinking he still had the full 30 hearts, but was actually on 7 hearts due to Martyn's End Crystal trap earlier that session.
  • Big "NO!": Gives one after the last of the Mounders (Joel and Bdubs) die, as she had spent much of the series fighting for one of them to win.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: Pearl is killed by Gem on Day 8, bringing her down to her final, Red life. Despite this, Pearl doesn't hold it against her and the two quickly team up to go on the offensive against the remaining Yellow Names. By the end of the session, the two have finished off the Yellows — albeit two of them were killed voluntarily — and each have no less than 50 hearts to their name. This alliance lasts until all the other factions on the server other than their own have been taken down, at which point their original loyalties prevail and they go on the offensive against each other.
  • Forced into Evil: The nature of her Day 6 task requires her to act as "an imposter" against her fellow Green Names, dealing damage to them under the orders of the Red Names of the server.
  • In-Series Nickname: Jimmy repeatedly calls her "Shakespeare" on Day 3 for waxing poetic about the environment around her.
  • Land Down Under: Pearl's Hermitcraft Running Gag of flipping mobs and building upside down is a nod to the fact she's Australian in real life. The hobbit hole house she builds on Day 1 is a reference to this existing gag; it's built the right side up, but the rationale behind it is that it's upside down by Australian standards.
  • A Match Made in Stockholm: Her friendship with Gem starting from Day 7 can be seen as this.
Gem: It's this weird thing that happened where I murdered her and recruited her into an apocalypse and murdered her best friend. Now, we're besties.
    Pearl: Yeah! You see–
Impulse: I think that's some sort of syndrome that I've heard of.
  • Mercy Kill Arrangement: After the deaths of all the other Mounders, Pearl tries to convince Scar to kill her after hunting down Scott so he can kill Gem to win the series. Scar refuses and eventually wins the series anyway.
  • Mama Bear: Much like in Double Life, Pearl is ready to declare war and rain hell on anyone who hurts her dogs.
  • Touché: While initially annoyed at Gem filling her chest with light grey stained glass for her secret task on Day 2, Pearl eventually concedes that it was well-played.

    Rendog
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/life_series_ren.png
IGN: Renthedog, Tango (as "Tango", Secret Life only)
Preferred name: Ren
First Joined: 3rd Life
Active Seasons: 1, 2, 3, 5 (guest; as "Tango")
A strong fighter and leader with a flair for the dramatic, Ren is always the one creating the most insane plotlines on the server. He's extremely persuasive, but doesn't take well to being told no, or others making demands of him.

3rd Life

Click here to see his Red King skin
Faction: Dogwarts
Ren allies himself with Martyn and opens Renchanting, the server's first proper shop. Ren is the first to get an enchantment table, and uses it as a basis for his enchanting emporium, allowing people to come in to enchant their items in exchange for resources. Renchanting quickly grows to a proper faction called Dogwarts, but one that quickly falls out of favor with the Desert after Ren refuses to give Scar his enchantment table in exchange for protection.

After his first death caused by Grian, Ren makes it his mission to take over the entire server. For that reason, he orders Martyn to kill him to put him on his Red life; he dons the mantle of "the Red King", and proceeds to go around to everyone else, demanding tribute.

Day Cause Lives remaining
4 Blown up when Jimmy set off Grian's TNT trap 2
5 Killed by Martyn at his own request 1
8 Killed by Scar (Battle of Dogwarts) 0

  • Beyond Redemption: Grian and Scar certainly think he has become this by the end of Day 5 after purposefully having his people aim at and kill their pet llama, Pizza, over Scar stealing a single Red Winter banner, then blaming Scar and Grian for Pizza's death.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Ren cares about Dogwarts to the end, to the point of entering a battle that was clearly not in their favor near the end of Day 7 because Skizz went in.
  • Face–Heel Turn: After Day 3, Scar is the first and only Red and is something of a Big Bad, while Ren is friendly to all and sells the use of his enchanting table at low prices, seeming like a Big Good. Once he loses a life to Grian's trap, however, Ren becomes vengeful, orders Martyn to execute him to deliberately become Red, and within a few episodes becomes a warlord, putting anyone who won't join the Red Army in his black book and attacking anyone who disrespects Dogwarts, especially the Red Desert. By the end of the season, the Red Desert and the Crastle have united to take him down.
  • Get Out!: After Scar tries to steal his business model and nearly declares an all-out war on Day 3, Ren is pretty fed up with him when he comes crawling back on Day 4.
Scar: …can I use your enchanter?
    Ren: (indignant) No! Get out!
  • It Has Been an Honor: He tells Martyn this halfway through Day 8, swearing to go down hand in hand while taking out as many of their enemies as possible, and reiterates it to the remainder of the Dogwarts forces just before the Battle of Dogwarts.
  • Off with His Head!: His second death is stated to be a beheading in-universe.
  • Red Baron: After having Martyn turn him Red, Ren dons the mantle of "the Red King".
  • These Hands Have Killed: After taking Scott's final life, Ren laments the blood he and his allies have spilled and wonders how many more people they'll have to kill before the war ends.
Ren: What has the world come to, me Hand? We started selling books of enchanting, it was a lovely place, and now we've become stone cold killers!
  • What the Hell Is That Accent?: He adopts a dramatic-sounding accent when he gets into the role of the Red King, though even he's not sure exactly what it's supposed to be. It shifts between Scottish, "Pirate", and his own South African accent, among others.

Last Life

Click here to see his Shadow Alliance skins
Faction: Castle Alliance/Shadow Alliance, Survivors, Larger Red Alliance
Initially solitary and living in his own tower, Ren soon aligns with Lizzie and the Castle Alliance and constructs the Shadow Tower. He becomes the de-facto leader of the Shadow Alliance, a secret organization dedicated to gathering as much info as they could.

The Shadow Tower becomes the last refuge of the Survivors in the last few days, as the last defensible structure still left standing. Ren briefly becomes the de-facto leader of the Survivors on Day 9 after Scott turned Red, but is betrayed and blown up by Pearl, that day's Boogeyman. He allies himself with the Larger Red Alliance anyway, and is one of the last four standing. He very nearly wins the series, but is narrowly beaten in combat by Scott in the final, four-way duel.

5 +1 Given one by Martyn 3
8 -1 Shot by Joel 2

9 -1 Killed by a zombie while fighting Scott (Final Battle) 0

  • Bad Liar: On Day 4, Ren is immediately caught when he tries to lie about being the Boogeyman. He admits to this as well.
  • Cold Ham: Ren often speaks in a rather dramatic manner, especially while negotiating.
  • Determinator: The very end of the series comes down to Ren vs. Scott, during which Ren takes a frankly ridiculous amount of arrows and continues fighting despite looking like a porcupine.
  • Foil: With Big B; both are assigned as Boogeymen on Day 4 and were from the same alliance, but their paths diverge from there. Ren tells his allies about his curse, swears to never hurt them, and gains their trust as well as help in his mission; when he's cured, he pays reparations to his victim and ends on good terms with everybody. On the other hand, Big B stays quiet, growing more desperate as time runs out, and doesn't see any other solution than killing his closest ally; this leads to him being ridden with guilt and his actions eventually haunt him and the splintered remains of the Shadow Alliance for the rest of the season.
  • Honorary True Companion: Scott declares him an honorary member of the "Three Gs" alliance on Day 9.
Scott: It was like, we want to kill Cleo and then we can reunite the Three Gs. That was always the plan.
    Cleo: Yay!
Ren: So am I not in the Three Gs?
Scott: You're part of it; you're an honorary G. You're Gendog.

Faction: The Heart Foundation (by proxy)
While Ren doesn't officially appear in Secret Life, he substitutes in for Tango on Day 6 since Tango couldn't make it to the recording session.

  1. On Day 6, Ren's assigned task as "Tango" is to have an Imaginary Friend who is exactly like Tango. The wording is the exact same as Tango's Day 3 task; he must pretend Tango is following him around and must include him in conversations. He suceeds this task by the end of the session.

  • …But He Sounds Handsome: While in a conversation with Skizz, "Tango" decides to bring up (and heavily compliment) a certain "small channel".
  • Imaginary Friend: Invoked. Ren, playing Tango, has an imaginary friend who acts exactly like Tango for his Day 6 secret task. Thankfully, he doesn't get caught by Yellows.
  • In-Series Nickname: Indirectly; Grian's episode subtitles refer to him as "Rengo".

    Scott Smajor

Cick here to see his other skin color variants (Seasons 1-2)
IGN: Smajor1995
Preferred name: Scott
First Joined: 3rd Life
Active Seasons: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
A talented builder, conversationalist and strategist. Scott is a no-nonsense person who usually just wants to be left alone, and will try to defuse any arguments that happen when he's nearby. He's also deeply loyal to everyone he allies with, and will give up his life if it means those he cares about are safe.
  • Camp Gay: Scott is openly gay, has an effeminate way of speaking, a love for cute things, and makes quite a few jokes about being attracted to his male servermates.
  • The Fettered: He's considerably more willing to hold true to his principles than others, and has stayed consistently reliable and relatively pacifistic throughout the series. This is one of the reasons the Watchers hate him so much, even without the Boogeyman incident from Last Life.
  • Last-Name Basis: Ren calls him 'Major', his real-life surname.
  • Long-Range Fighter: While Scott can fight with a sword or axe, he prefers ranged weapons like bows (for long distances) and splash potions (for close combat).
  • Lovable Alpha Bitch: Gender-Inverted Trope. Scott has a petty and spiteful streak a mile wide and is described to be like a Mean Girl at his worst, especially seen in Double Life. He's also incredibly loyal and devoted, and is willing to lay down his life for those he cares about, and tries to stay on good terms with everyone as long as they haven't done something to aggravate him. On top of all that, the Watchers despise him for trying to stay moral in a game of betrayal and violence, i.e. going against what the resident deity-equivalents themselves consider to be the "proper" way to play the Deadly Game; in essence, his spite and his bleeding heart very much go hand in hand.
  • Martial Pacifist: Scott rarely resorts to violence or the threat of violence to get his way, and prefers to use words rather than weapons to get people to leave him and his allies alone. However, when it comes down to it, Scott is an incredibly clever combatant, taking full advantage of the terrain and his arsenal of potions to take down his opponent.
  • Only Sane Man: Scott is very rarely amused by his server-mates' shenanigans, and is quick to poke holes in whatever lies anyone tells him.
  • The Smart Guy: Scott is perhaps the most knowledgeable person on the server when it comes to arming and disarming traps, prefers to think things through before leaping into a bad situation, and is nearly impossible to trick. This also translates to his fighting style, as he prefers to rely on various combinations of potions and uses the terrain around him to his advantage.
  • Undying Loyalty: Is fiercely devoted to those he's allied with, especially shown in Last Life and Secret Life.

Faction: Flower Forest, The Red Desert (briefly)
Scott's strategy for survival was to hide out in a distant corner of the map to stay out of sight of others. He teams up with Jimmy, and makes their base in a relatively hidden valley in the middle of a flower forest, surrounded by a wall in order to ward off potential attackers. He proceeds to marry Jimmy, and tries to settle down with his new husband, but slowly but surely, the collapsing politics of the other factions drag them both down too as they ultimately ally themselves with the Red Desert.

After the death of Jimmy during the Battle of the Red Desert, Scott vows revenge on Dogwarts, and formally teams up with Scar and Grian. However, while attempting to recover his armor and weapons, he is spotted, hunted down, and killed.
Day Cause Lives remaining
7 Shot by Etho (Battle of the Red Desert) 2
8 Killed by Martyn and Ren (Battle of Dogwarts) 1
8 Killed by Martyn and Ren 0

  • Arrows on Fire: He used a bow enchanted with Flame in battles, but loses it after his first death.
  • Big "NO!":
    • He reacts this way in combination with Big "OMG!" when he witnessed Jimmy, Ren, and Skizz getting blown up by Jimmy accidentally moving the TNT minecart trap that Grian and Scar set up.
    • His last words prior to his third and final death.
  • Deliberately Monochrome: After Jimmy's death in battle, Scott's POV becomes full desaturation after dying himself, and only becomes colourful again upon his Afterlife Welcome and being reunited with Jimmy in death.
  • Do Wrong, Right: Near the end of Day 6, after receiving two free anvils from Joel from a failed Anvil on Head trap and catching Joel burning the Flower Forest's walls down, Scott chases him off, yelling about exactly how Joel's redstone trap failed.
  • Enemy Mine: After being initially on bad terms with the Desert, Scott feels that there really was no choice except to team with them after Ren turned Red and Dogwarts turned very outwardly hostile.
  • Heroic BSoD: Bdubs notes at the end of Day 7 that Scott appeared to be "dazed" from the way he spoke. Considering what had happened earlier that day, it's not hard to guess why.note
  • Out-of-Context Eavesdropping: Played for Laughs. On Day 5, Scott spies and overhears Etho's execution by firing squad for allgedly being an Accomplice by Inaction to Tango breaking the No Helmets rule, but never hears about why this is happening. He surmises they're part of a cult and leaves without asking for context.
  • Pre-Mortem One-Liner: "Hi, BigB!"
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Scott was fairly neutral on the server, only tentatively allying with Grian and Scar out of necessity after his relations with Dogwarts soured. However, after Jimmy is Killed Off for Real in the Battle for the Red Desert, Scott teams up with Grian and Scar to take out as many Dogwarts members as he can. This rampage nets him two kills and one count of arson before he loses his final life.
  • Then Let Me Be Evil: For a limited definition of 'evil', anyway. Scott initially wanted to make a peaceful home away from everyone else, only leaving to conduct trade. However, after seeing the others attempt to create monopolies on basic resources and pull underhanded tricks to get ahead of the curve, Scott decides to do the same, stealing cows from Tango's cow farm to start his own, taunting Grian and Scar with the fact that he has his own supply of dark oak wood, and taking all the Nether wart from the Nether so that when push comes to shove, he'd be the only one with the ability to make potions. The latter is negated by the fact that Martyn, his Nether-busting companion, ends up on the opposite side of the war to him.
  • Together in Death: After Scott loses his final life, he's transported to the Flower Forest base, which looks exactly like he'd envisioned it in his head, but didn't have time to properly build on the server itself. There, he finally sees Jimmy again.
Jimmy: This... This is... The end.
    Scott: It's home?
    Jimmy: Home.
  • Tragic Keepsake: Played with; the Pufferish of Peace is one of the last keepsakes from Jimmy that Scott would have had... if Martyn hadn't stolen it just before the Battle of the Red Desert to use it as a weapon. While the Dogwarts forces discuss early in Day 8 that the pufferfish in their possession would be precious to Scott like their Red Banner shield is to them (and they'd be correct), and that Scott would be willing to commit atrocities just to get it back, they wind up killing Scott twice and taking him out of the Deadly Game before he even learns they have the pufferfish.
  • Trickster Girlfriend: Gender-Inverted Trope. Shortly before the start of Day 7, Scott leaves a cake in Jimmy's secret room and feigns ignorance to make Jimmy paranoid about it and to all-round troll him.
  • You Monster!: Calls Grian this in response to Grian and Scar's triple kill via TNT minecart on Day 4.

Last Life

Faction: The Scottage/Three Gs/Gaslight Gatekeep Girlboss, Survivors, Larger Red Alliance
Scott, fearing for his own two lives, makes a deal with Pearl where he would keep her safe in exchange for one of her own lives. The two start a base in the middle of a taiga biome near spawn, affectionally dubbed the Scottage.

Initially wanting to stay out of trouble, Scott keeps running into it as all other factions made it a habit of passing through his base. He and Pearl manage to secure some of the most valuable resources on the server (brewing stands, a Wither skull, cows and sheep, sugarcane and sand), as well as a skeleton spawner, making their home a prime target for robbers.

After letting Cleo join their alliance on Day 4, the Scottage and the secret underground base is destroyed, first by being bombed by Grian and Joel, then by having lava poured all over it on Day 7.

Scott becomes the de-facto leader of the Survivors after Day 7, when every faction falls apart and the non-Reds are forced to band together out of necessity. After becoming the Boogeyman on Day 8 and refusing to kill anyone, he turns Red and joins Grian and Joel, but their alliance is shaky at best, not helped by the fact that Grian and Joel are actively plotting to kill him. After Pearl turns Red and antagonizes Grian and Joel, Scott joins the Larger Red alliance to kill them. In the end, he is the winner of the final death-match, making him the winner of Last Life.

  • Did You Just Flip Off Cthulhu?: A variation, as Scott doesn't even know that the Watchers exist (at least in canon), but his defiance towards the Boogeyman curse, among many other things, has earned him the Watchers' ire.
"????": He refuses to participate? He mocks us... THIS WILL NOT STAND!
    […]
"????": And then all it took was a simple 3… 2… 1… and you all obliged. Bar one…
    Martyn: You mean Scott.
"????": His will to live was too strong. His flame burned too bright. Now look what's happened.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Sick of people constantly breaking through the Scottage's wall to cut through their territory, he upgrades the wall to be hollow and filled with lava. The wall's proximity to the Scottage itself, however, causes it to catch fire several times.
  • In-Series Nickname: Of the Three Gs, he's "Gatekeep" for building walls around the alliance's home-base.
  • Punctuated! For! Emphasis!: His Day 4 episode is titled "Don't. Mess. With. The. Wall."
  • Undying Loyalty: Scott's alliance with Pearl and later Cleo is one of the strongest on the server, and one of the few that survives its members turning Red — in fact, Scott targets Cleo and Pearl specifically on Day 9 so he could reunite with them. This extends to the rest of the Survivors post-Day 7 as well; Scott is immediately open to them about being the Boogeyman on Day 8, and becomes the first (and only) person to ever turn Red due to his refusal to kill one of his allies.

Paired with: Pearl
Scott starts the series unable to find his soulmate, and pairs up with Cleo in the meantime. However, as their soulmates continue to not show themselves for the rest of Day 1, they decide to pair up with each other instead, leaving Pearl and Martyn in the dust.

Day Cause Lives remaining
4 Died when his partner was killed by Joel 2
6 Shot in the back by Joel with a firework-loaded crossbow 1
6 Suicide by TNT detonation 0

  • Abandonment-Induced Animosity: After Pearl spends most of Day 1 tagging along with Martyn's adventures and refuses to show up to identify her soulmate, Scott and Cleo figure this out via process of elimination and decide to be chosen soulmates instead, leaving them behind to settle down with each other. Pearl doesn't take this well, leading to mutual Poor Communication Kills-induced animosity.
  • Big "WHY?!": His reaction to the "Ranchers' Revenge" Warden being brought to the surface and, at the time, set loose in the Ranch.
  • Dissonant Serenity: On Day 5, Scott completely brushes off his main base's walls being set on fire. Justified as he's prepared for something like this to happen and has gotten his valuables out to another base beforehand in case his original base gets looted.
  • Face Death with Dignity: On Day 4, after seeing Pearl steal some of Joel and Etho's items in the aftermath of the fishing rod game and the two show up as Red Lives to reclaim their stuff, Scott is fully aware that he's going to die because Joel and Etho are going to kill Pearl for their stolen belongings, and resets his spawnpoint in Impulse and Bdubs' base so he doesn't have to lose his items, and essentially waits to die next to said spawnpoint after trying and failing to tell Pearl to just give the two's items back.
  • Gaslighting: His main plans for the Relationship Ranch revolved around gaslighting soulbound pairs into distrusting each other and splitting up.
  • Improvised Weapon: On Day 6, when Joel hunts him down in revenge for burning down the Relation-Ship the previous episode, Scott tries to hit him with a water bucket in a moment of panic. Deconstructed as it wouldn't do a whole lot of damage even if the hit landed, and Joel brings him down to his final life just after that anyway.
  • Screw Destiny: Due to their soulmates having gone adventuring to the Deep Dark and the Nether in the very first episode, Scott and Cleo choose to become pseudo-soulmates purely because their own soulmates refuse to show up to player gatherings such that the two have to all but find out who their soulmates are by process of elimination. Scott goes out of his way to actively call out Martyn and Pearl for "abandoning" them.
Scott: This is the definition of the "Welcome Home, Cheaters" [meme].
  • Spiteful Suicide: Discussed on Day 4, when Scott makes plans to just off himself once he becomes a Red Life in order to take Pearl, his unhinged soulbound, out of the equation.
  • Title Drop: Personalized variant on Day 6, where Scott titles his episode "Tilly Death Do Us Part". Before parting ways with Pearl on their final life, she and Scott joke that it would be "Tilly they meet again", or rather, "Tilly death do [them] part"; he tells Pearl this again at the end of the episode as he detonates himself (and her by proxy).
  • Working with the Ex: Cleo is soulmates with Martyn and Scott is soulmates with Pearl, but Cleo and Scott decide to break up with them and partner with each other instead. When the four are left as the only Yellow Names, Cleo and Scott team with their soulmates again because they need allies.
Scott: No, don't tell me I'm gonna need to team up with my crazy ex…
Cleo: I think we might need to team up with our exes.

Limited Life

Faction: Coral Isles/Mean Gills
Like most seasons, Scott starts out the series trying to avoid the action, and chooses to build a summer resort island over the coral reef as a base, taking in and allying with Martyn on Day 2.

This comes to a pause on Day 4 when destruction rains down on their corner of the map, gunning at him for his life-time, but he manages to make Mercy Kill Arrangements with his allies to turn Yellow and get the target off his back. While on Yellow, he continues to keep level-headed in the conflicts of the server if he ever gets involved.

However, come Day 7 and chaos comes knocking at his door again; as the Red Lives begin to swarm, Scott decides it's time for the gloves to come off and for "mellow Yellow" to end, and to join the inter-faction conflicts in person. His survival skills net him several kills and a spot in the final three alongside Impulse and Martyn, but after a three-way final duel is proposed and set up, Martyn turns his sword against Scott, cutting both of his competitors down in one fell swoop.

  • Action Survivor: Scott shows himself to be very good at surviving — as of Day 6, he is one of the few people to never die from preventable means like mobs and fall damage, and most of his deaths in the season were Mercy Kill Arrangements to make himself less of a target when everyone else is actively trying to hunt him down for his life-time, and/or to give an ally some extra life-time. He averts this by officially joining in on the fighting and hunting on Day 7, and proceeds to commit nine murders.
  • Apologetic Attacker: Being assigned the first Boogeyman, he apologizes before murdering Skizz less than 15 minutes in. He does feel bad about it and gives another apology later in Day 1.
  • Big "YES!": His reaction to his second death, mainly because he's spent the better part of the episode being hunted down by bloodthirsty Yellow Names and that death drops him to Yellow as well. It helps that Martyn's the one to deal the final blow, as the two are allied and had just made a contigency plan for this very scenario.
  • Blackmail: On Day 5, while tracking down his stolen enchanter, Scott stumbles across the Nosy Neighbours hiding Judge Judy And Executioner the frog under their base, and blackmails the Nosy Neighbours the frog's location in exchange for his enchanter back. Pearl, firmly holding on to the Idiot Ball, refuses and causes the Mean Gills to team up with Jimmy to track down the frog.
  • The Dog Bites Back: After Joel leads the charge on hunting him down to Yellow and later even Red, Scott kills him five times on Day 7, with the last instance taking Joel out of the series altogether.
  • Ear Fins: After losing his Green lives, Scott gradually undergoes a physical transformation to become more fish-like, eventually developing these as a Red life.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: Subverted. After the initial moment of shock wears off, Scott takes Martyn backstabbing him at the last moment completely nonchalantly.
Scott: (postmortem) My own Mean Gill, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
  • Face Death with Dignity: Acknowledging that he has a target on his back for having the longest life-time, Scott makes a deal with Cleo on Day 3 that she can kill him for his life-time when push comes to shove. This is carried out a day later when a vast majority of the server have turned Yellow, many of whom being out for blood. Even his last word before the death is a cheery "Bye!".
  • Fish People: After turning Yellow, he develops gills and scales, though since it's a Minecraft skin, it's purely aesthetic and has no effect on his gameplay.
  • Last of His Kind:
    • Downplayed; Scott ends up as the second-last Green Name standing due to his early Boogeyman kill on Day 1, and is the last person on the server to die a first death (even then, at his own request). On Day 4, Joel expresses astonishment that he's survived for so long and quickly rallies most of the server to hunt him down.
    • On Day 7, Scott winds up being one of the two last Yellow Names standing on the server alongside Impulse. They permanently lose their Yellow status in the same explosion just minutes later, though the kill feed in the in-game chat states that Scott barely outlives Impulse.
  • Mythology Gag: He makes a nod to "a salmon fiasco in a past life" and uses this knowledge to veto Martyn's faction name suggestion of "the Salmen".
  • Out-Gambitted: The trope instigator. Early in Day 7, Scott notices Grian and Joel sneaking around in the Coral Isles. Suspecting that they're trying to trap his bed, he resets his spawn at Entertainment Mountain and allows Scar to kill him for life-time, knowing that the Bad Boys (save Jimmy) will come looking for him when they realize their spawn-camping trap doesn't work.
  • Pre-Mortem One-Liner: While hunting Joel down with Martyn and the Clockers:
Scott: These are the consequences of your actions, Joel!
  • Surrounded by Idiots: He's made at least one joke about being the only person around with brain-cells, and has a practically trademarked tone of voice specifically reserved for expressing exasperation and disappointment at everyone else's antics.
Scott: The whole branding that I'm like, the only one here with like, any brain-cells really stands.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: His early Boogeyman kill in Day 1 leads to two more Boogeyman rerolls and thus two more deaths for the day; he apologizes to Big B for this a couple of minutes before the second reroll.
  • You Can Always Tell a Liar: On Day 5, he catches Jimmy lying about not stealing his carrots and Martyn wanting to split up the Mean Gills through the inflection and tone of his voice alone.
Scott: I've played enough Among Us to know when you're lying.

Faction: Gem and the Scotts / the Cherry Blossoms, Warm-Bloods/Survivors (Day 7)

  1. On Day 1, Scott's assigned task is to build his base "directly and obnoxiously attached to someone else's". He succeeds in this task by the end of the session by temporarily attaching his base next to Gem's.
  2. On Day 2, his assigned task is to start three conversations with three different players and leave halfway through without saying a word without being called out. He succeeds in this task by the end of the session, during chats with Pearl and Cleo, Lizzie, and Jimmy.
  3. On Day 3, his assigned task, submitted by lieful, is to tell three people, "Love you," and have them say it back without being prompted to. He succeeds in this task by the end of the session with Gem, Cleo, and Skizz.
  4. On Day 4, his initial assigned task is unknown. He chooses to reroll to, as submitted by musicalsciectist7148, figure out another person's task and complete it, and informing the person in question once he thinks he's done to confirm success. He succeeds in this task by the end of the session, helping Lizzie to connect all the bases to her own.
  5. On Day 5, his assigned task, submitted by obscureSwan, is to be in a game of tag with Impulse, Tango, and Bdubs, with whoever still being "it" at the session break and the end of the session failing; Yellow Names have to guess all four people involved for them to fail that way. He succeeds in this task by the end of the session.
  6. On Day 6, his assigned task is to find and call out the non-Red player assigned to be an assassin to him before they can deal 10 hearts of damage to him (by proxy or otherwise) and without dying, with only one guess attempt allowed. He succeeds in by the end of the session after calling Joel out for trying and failing to trap his house with a TNT minecart.
  7. On Day 7, his assigned task is to complete tasks for at least three other players to obtain at least 10 diamonds, with a requirement to accept the players' first offer of diamonds and cannot convince them to give him more. He succeeds in this task by the end of the session, getting Impulse a bucket of lava for four diamonds, getting Joel ancient debris for two, getting Etho a TNT minecart and more ancient debris for two, and getting Gem another bucket of lava for two. He is one of the three survivors of the Infected Apocalypse, along with Cleo and Grian.
  8. On Day 8, his assigned task is to listen in to the plans of Red Names and report incorrect information back to fellow Yellow Names at least three times, such that false intel is acted upon at least once. He fails at this task by the end of the session.
  9. On Day 9, his assigned task as a Red Life is the same as everybody else: to win Secret Life. He fails at this task by the end of the session.

  • In the Back: Gem, having just turned Red, manages to attack him from behind three times in an attempt to infect him before he is able to escape from their faction base.
  • Mercy Kill Arrangement: All three of his deaths are this:
    • Having ended Day 6 on half a heart, Scott preemptively decides to make one with Martyn early on Day 7 so he can get back on full health and an IOU, while Martyn gets 10 extra hearts for the kill.
    • At the end of Day 8, Scott points out he'd personally prefer to make this arrangement with Gem so she can get the hearts for it as a Red Life. Gem, being present, immediately requests to go through with it; he complies.
    • He ends the series on one as well, seeking out Gem mid-battle so she can take hearts for killing him to win for the band. Gem complies, this time reluctantly.
Scott: (post-mortem) Sometimes, you just have to take one for the band.
  • Token Good Teammate: With Gem leading the Infected on Day 7 and Impulse volunteering to join her early on, Scott is left the only uninfected and non-hostile member of the band, who at first covertly and later openly allies with the Survivors and aids them in their escape against bloodthirsty Boogeymen. He's also quite heartbroken at being the only person who has "band loyalty" left, given Gem has tried to kill him at least twice while infected, directly or by leading a charge against him; and despite initially cordial warnings to stay away from the infected, Impulse ends up joining the final hunts against the last Survivors as well.
  • Undying Loyalty: Not just one but two of his lives have gone to Gem so she could get the hearts.

IGN: Skizzleman
Preferred name: Skizz
First Joined: 3rd Life
Active Seasons: 1, 2, 4, 5
Skizz is in equal parts passionate and compassionate. His friendly demeanor means he's likely to be both the bridge between players and The Heart of any group he's in. But don't let that fool you; when given a goal, Skizz will always provide his 100%. Even when backed into a corner, he prefers to go out in a blaze of glory.
  • History Repeats: He gets Killed Off for Real on Day 7 in the first three seasons he's been in; this does not come to pass in Secret Life.
  • Large Ham: He's oftentimes loud and shouty when he's excited.
    Skizz: LET'S DANCE!
  • Rule of Three: In multitudes:
    • In 3rd Life, Skizz is the third person to turn Red, the third person to lose all three of his lives, and each of his deaths has been three days apart from the last.
    • In Last Life, he is assigned with three lives, and his initial, 'S', is the third letter of his faction's name, B.E.S.T. He's also the third person to permanently die in the season.
    • He is absent from Double Life, the third season of the Life series.
    • In Limited Life, he dies three times on Day 1, and dies three times on Day 7 before he chooses to sacrifice himself.
  • Trademark Favourite Food: Casserole, it seems; he makes several mentions to the foodstuff in 3rd Life and states in Limited Life that his preferred final meal request would be his wife's tuna casserole.

Skizz starts off as a neutral member of the server, claiming a hill near the center of the map and naming it Skizz Point, before hunkering down and trying to stay alive. However, once Grian gets on the roof and proclaims that he has Martyn's Red Winter axe, Skizz flies into a rage and charges into the Crastle by himself, despite his allies yelling at him to stay back, and runs up to the second floor to try to kill Grian, who kills him in self-defense.
  • Blood Knight: On his last life, Skizz openly talks about his bloodlust for others, which only strengthens after killing two people on Day 7. This becomes one of the factors that leads to his death.
  • Killed Off for Real: Loses his last life on Day 7, making him the third person to meet this fate. He's also the first person to induce this fate, killing Jimmy in the Battle of the Red Desert earlier in the session.
  • These Hands Have Killed: He expresses guilt for killing Cleo on Day 7, since he assumed that she was Yellow when she launched her charge attack on Ren earlier.

  • Born Unlucky: On Day 1, he gets murdered by two Boogeymen within the first 20 minutes (and in the span of about five). Even after having several people protecting him for most of the rest of the day, he still gets ambushed by a Creeper with Impulse while caving near the end. At the end of Day 1, he's the player with the shortest amount of time left. His perspective of the day is fittingly titled "WORST START EVER!!!".
Skizz: This is– All I do is die!
  • It Has Been an Honor: After hitting the 25-minute mark, Skizz tells the rest of the T.I.E.S. this, and makes plans to give the remainder of his life-time to another member of the faction.
  • Tempting Fate: After attempting to blow Bdubs up with an End crystal on Day 6, Skizz feigns ignorance and complains about the explosion… only to have a TNT minecart dropped on him.
Skizz: I swear, every time I leave- I leave for two seconds, I hear an explosion.
    (The T.I.E.S. laugh)
    impulseSV blew up
    Skizzleman blew up
  • Took a Level in Kindness: In comparison with 3rd Life, where he devolves into a Blood Knight, Skizz is much more cordial in Limited Life and acts much more sentimental with other players due to having a short life-time left to live. This sentimentality, along with his atrocious luck earlier in the day, spares him from being Martyn's Boogeyman kill on Day 1. It saves him again on Day 7, as being at one of his heart-to-hearts on Affirmation Station saves him from being blown up by Grian alongside the rest of the T.I.E.S. (and Scott).
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: Skizz spends his hours as a Red Life walking around wearing nothing but his red underpants. Resigned, Cleo and Bdubs immediately compare him with Scar, and Pearl tells him to Please Put Some Clothes On.

Secret Life

Faction: The Heart Foundation, Warm-Bloods/Survivors (Day 7, formerly), the Infected (Day 7)

  1. On Day 1, Skizz's assigned task is to stay within ten blocks of Gem for 10 minutes. He succeeds in this task by the end of the session.
  2. On Day 2, he assigned task is to call people anything but their username for at least 30 minutes of the session. Already being prone to nicknames, he succeeds in this task by the end of the session.
  3. On Day 3, he is informed by olavivarrud4180 that someone else on the server has the same task as him, and he has to find out who they are; he is explicitly directed to not reroll his task. He fails at this task by the end of the session, sussing out and disclosing it prematurely to Joel instead of Martyn.
  4. On Day 4, he has to have a Yellow Name accuse him of a task, which will then become his new task — in this case, his task is to speak in the third person, as assigned by Joel. He fails at this task within 2 seconds and gives up on it immediately afterward, resulting in a failure.
  5. On Day 5, his assigned task is to do the opposite of what Green Names tell him to do, but not Yellow Names.
  6. On Day 6, his assigned task is to be the therapist of the server by getting players to acknowledge negative feelings and giving them advice. He succeeds in this task by the end of the session.
  7. On Day 7, his assigned task is to act as the "angel" on Cleo's shoulder and convince her to do good instead of listening to the "devil", i.e. Etho; he passes if Cleo acts more on his advice than she does Etho. This is negated when Joel infects him with the Boogeyman curse, causing him to adopt Gem's secret task of spreading the infection across the server. He fails at this task by the end of the session, failing to infect Cleo, Grian, Scott in the end.
  8. On Day 8, his assigned tasks vary as a Red Life:
    • His first task is to kill a Green Name by any means; with there being no more Green Names on the server, Skizz decides to take some creative liberties and target a Yellow Name, i.e. the next best option he has. He succeeds by blowing up Scar in his own base as revenge for burning down the Heart Foundation.
  9. On Day 9, his assigned task as a Red Life is the same as everybody else: to win Secret Life. He fails at this task by the end of the session.

  • The Nicknamer: Invoked on Day 2; his assigned task requires him to refer to other players by a different name than their IGN. He overcompensates in his initial task by nicknaming everyone — even those whose preferred names aren't the same as their username.
  • Stalker without a Crush: Skizz's Day 1 task forces him to be this to Gem for 10 minutes, to his great displeasure.
  • Third-Person Person: Due to unique task requirements, Joel assigns him with this task on Day 4. Defied in that he fails immediately afterward and gives up on it the moment he realizes.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: His reaction to Cleo's ridicuously easy secret task on Day 4.

Preferred name: Joel
First Joined: 3rd Life
Active Seasons: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
Joel is a relatively neutral member of the server, who isn't too interested in faction politics and mostly just wants to be left alone. However, when he turns Red, he's definitely a force to be reckoned with, as he's good at stealth and knowing when to strike. He's the strongest combatant of all the members by far, but has a tendency to be petty and vengeful, causing him to have few strong alliances and often resulting in a death from being outnumbered by enemies in battle. In real life, he's married to Lizzie.
  • Animal Motifs: While this is more rooted in fan interpretation than canon, Joel is often associated with wolves. Throughout the first two seasons, he's characterized as a 'lone wolf' type of player without alignment to any faction in particular, and even leads a pack of wolves into battle in the 3rd Life finale. However, starting from Limited Life when he's finally part of a faction, he's deeply devoted and loyal to the point of being willing to sacrifice himself for them. He also has the highest kill counts in Last Lifenote  and Double Lifenote , and has one of the highest overall.
  • Bad People Abuse Animals: Starting from Last Life, Joel has gained a bloodthirsty streak and has a tendency to kill his fellow server-members' pets with little to no provocation, especially as a Red Life. This has led to much conflict on the server.
  • Blood Knight: In just about every season, Joel has led the charge on enemy factions or those with more lives than him.
  • One True Love: With Lizzie; even if he tried to kill her on at least two occasions in Last Life, Joel can always recognize his real-life wife in-game, even if she is possessing another body at the time.
  • Wild Card: Joel doesn't often align himself with any particular faction (at least in the first three seasons), and especially when he goes Red, is highly unpredictable and oftentimes hellbent on causing chaos on the server.

3rd Life

Faction: None
Joel makes a house on a hill just west of the Crastle. He initially had no interest in getting involved in any faction politics, though he does make some alliances with the Flower Forest faction, who are also fairly neutral. However, after getting dragged into multiple conflicts, he really has no choice but to get involved.

5 Burned to death in a house fire started by Cleo 1
8 Killed by Ren (Battle of the Red Desert) 0

  • Bring My Brown Pants: Mentioned on Day 1; Joel claims that this was almost his reaction when Martyn jump-scares him with the Creeper hiss sound effect.
  • Comically Small Bribe: At the end of Day 6, Joel promises to give anyone who kills Martyn and brings him his head 64 dead bushes, because Martyn killed his wolves at some point. The Flower Forest faction and Cleo subvert this, adding to Joel's bounty with substantial amounts of diamonds, iron, and emeralds, all of which are valuable resources in a Deadly Game such as this.note
  • Man on Fire: The way he loses his second life after Cleo lights his roof on fire.
  • Put on a Bus: He was not present on Day 7 for undisclosed reasons.
  • Savage Wolves: Joel spends the better part of the whole season breeding a huge pack of them and brings them all to battle with him on Day 8.

Faction: Magical Mountain
Joel joins Scar in his ventures of starting a Souls business, and sets up his base in a cave at the base of the Magical Mountain. However, after Joel turns Red on Day 2 after many failed kills as the Boogeyman, this alliance quickly falls apart, though Scar does allow Joel to keep living in his cave house.

Joel remains Red for the majority of the series, battling both the other people on the server, and his own loneliness. After most major alliances have fallen apart, he teams up with Grian to hunt down the remaining Greens and Yellows, but winds up going a bit too far by killing Pearl's axolotls in front of her. This causes a fracture within the Red alliance, and after there are no more Greens or Yellows left, Joel and Grian are hunted down and killed by the rest of the remaining Reds.

5 +1 Forced Scar to give him one 2
6 -1 Blew up after Lizzie set off his trap early 1
9 -1 Killed by Scott with a Splash Potion of Harming 0

  • All for Nothing:
    • The penalty for failing to kill someone as the Boogeyman is being reduced to your last life the next day. Although Joel manages to kill Scott, the other mishaps he had during the rest of the day and Pearl killing him in revenge take him down to his last life anyway.
    • He becomes the Boogeyman a second time on Day 6 as a Yellow Life, but ends up getting caught in the blast from his own trap. Downplayed as he goes back to kill Lizzie anyway.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard:
    • Joel builds a Pit Trap in his cave to lure unsuspecting players into if they come looking for the enchantment table. His first potential victim, Lizzie, doesn't fall for the trap and makes a run for it when she figures out he's the Boogeyman. Joel panics and tries to chase her down… only to tumble down the hole himself.
    • During his second round as the Boogeyman on Day 6, he blows himself up with a trap meant for Lizzie.
  • Kick the Dog: After being forced to flee their bases, Scott, Pearl and Cleo resort to carrying their pet axolotls on their persons. When they are hunted down and killed by the Reds, Joel takes great glee in going through their inventories, dumping the axolotls out onto the ground, and killing them, sometimes in front of their owners. This is in large part the reason the main Red alliance fractures on Day 9, and results in Joel and Grian being hunted down and killed by the Larger Red Alliance.
  • Kill Steal: On Day 7, Martyn becomes the Boogeyman after Pearl, the original Boogeyman, left the day early due to a power outage. Martyn attempts to kill his only ally Grian, but unbeknownst to either of them, Joel is watching from the shadows and is able to shoot Grian once before he kills himself with Ender pearl damage. This causes the game to credit Joel with the kill, leaving Martyn friendless and still needing to kill someone.
  • Lethally Stupid: When Joel goes to the Scottage to kill one of the people there, he has the enchantment table with him for some reason. His death at Pearl's hands causes her and Scott to obtain the table, ruining any chance of Scar continuing his scam without Joel. Lizzie even lampshades this when Pearl and Scott tell her how they acquired the table.
  • Mad Bomber: After going down to his last life, he sets multiple explosive traps per day, all over the map, though they have only rarely succeeded.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: On Day 2, while luring Lizzie into his trap, Joel calls her by her full given name, Elizabeth. This is seen from Lizzie's perspective as the first indication that something was up with Joel.
  • Til Murder Do Us Part: Both times he is chosen the Boogeyman, he targets his wife Lizzie first, although he only kills her once and kills himself in the process both times.
  • Worthy Opponent: After being killed in Joel's trap on Day 4 and brought down to Red, Cleo commends that Joel's a genius for setting up the trap at all.

  • Apologetic Attacker: After killing Pearl for stealing his and Etho's belongings after their death, Joel apologizes to Scott for killing him by proxy as collateral damage due to soulbound synchronization.
  • Bad People Abuse Animals: As a Red Name.
    • On Day 5, Joel, being angered at Scar stealing the Enchanting Table of the server and lying to his face about it, decides to kill his Jellie Pandas and set fire to their Reserve in retaliation.
Joel: Every time you lie, one Panda dies. (kills a Panda with his axe)
    • In the finale, Joel also casually blows up and kills Pearl's dogs just to make her mad, and sets fire to Martyn's donkey simply because he can.
  • Big "YES!": He lets one out after Jimmy dies from fall damage during the siege on Grian and Scar's aerial platform.
  • Genre Savvy: Upon finding the Enchanting Table missing from the Ancient City, Joel instantly accuses Scar of stealing it because he did precisely that the previous season when they were allies. His hunch is quickly proven correct.
  • Madness Mantra: From Day 5 to 6, "The ship burns, everything burns."

  • Apologetic Attacker: After the Bad Boys Bread Bridge Bombing, Joel apologizes to Scar for having him caught in the crossfire in revenge against Cleo, citing I Did What I Had to Do and giving him his other TNT minecart as an Apology Gift.
  • Blood Knight: At the very start of the season, Joel is pretty much the only guy on the server who wants to be the Boogeyman so he can murder someone, and is disappointed when he doesn't get the role on Day 1. In conjunction with this, he has zero qualms murdering cows and villagers left and right for the hell of it.
    • Come Day 2, and he's ecstatic to be cursed with the bloodlust geas, and he commits murder as a Green Life on Day 3 out of pure vengefulness.
    • On Day 4, he's the one to rally the entire server to hunt down Scott for his life-time.
  • Dehumanizing Insult: On Day 5, Joel calls the T.I.E.S. "animals" for blowing up the Bread Bridge.
  • Epic Fail: While Pearl is trying to stop the invasion of the Bread Bridge on Nosy Neighbors territory, Joel threatens to speed-bridge his way across the inter-faction border. He falls in two blocks and almost dies.
  • Mad Bomber: A vast majority of Joel's kills involve him dropping a TNT minecart on his victims.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: He goes on one when fellow Bad Boy Jimmy died his final death. It ends with him dying permanently too by the end of Day 7.
  • Sanity Slippage: While Joel has always had a chaotic streak a mile wide, according to Grian, his mental state really starts going downhill after Jimmy's final death.
  • Self-Sacrifice Scheme: The reason Joel is so reckless with his life-time throughout the series is because he intended to sacrifice himself so that Jimmy won't be the first to die again. It fails, and Joel doesn't take it well.
  • Too Dumb to Live: On Day 2, he runs directly at a Vindicator to kill it close-range. He dies in two hits and kindly reminds the entire map that the Woodland Mansion has been reset, with Totems of Undying ready for the taking.

Secret Life

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/secret_life_joel.png
Faction: The Mounders, Warm-Bloods/Survivors (Day 7, formerly), the Infected (Day 7)

  1. On Day 1, Joel's assigned task is to plug the Life series merch at the worst possible times to other players at least 4 times. He succeeds in this task seamlessly by the end of the session.
  2. On Day 2, his assigned task is to start a cult. He succeeds in this task by the end of the session, tricking Mumbo into "the Round Mound cult", and later Martyn.
  3. On Day 3, his initial assigned task is to listen in to a conversation, reiterate the same conversation with one of those person, and have them claim déjà vu; but he decides to reroll to pulling off a 100-block water bucket clutch in front of the whole server. He fails at this task by the end of the session, and loses a life as a result of attempting it.
  4. On Day 4, his assigned task is to fit four different lines from "All Star" by Smash Mouth into four of his conversations without anyone calling him out on it. He succeeds in this task by the end of the session.
  5. On Day 5, his assigned task is to "backseat game" Pearl for 10 minutes, moving on to another player if she calls him out and failing if he has to move on more than thrice. He succeeds in this task by the end of the session, with Pearl humouring him all the way through.
  6. On Day 6, his assigned task is to deal a minimum of 10 hearts of damage to Scott, directly or by proxy and by any means desired, without getting called out for being the assassin. He fails at this task by the end of the session after Scott calls him out for trying and failing to trap his house with a TNT minecart.
  7. On Day 7, his initial assigned task is to always be above someone when speaking to them. He fails at this task when he mistakenly believes Etho is a block lower than him while talking to him, but this is rendered moot when Gem infects him with the Boogeyman curse, causing him to adopt Gem's secret task of spreading the infection across the server. He fails at this task by the end of the session as well, failing to infect Cleo, Grian, Scott in the end.
  8. On Day 8, his assigned tasks vary as a Red Life:
    • His first task is to shoot Scar with an unenchanted bow until he either deflects the attacks with a shield or dies.
  9. On Day 9, his assigned task as a Red Life is the same as everybody else: to win Secret Life. He fails at this task by the end of the session.

Day Cause Lives remaining
3 Fall damage from failing a 100-block water bucket clutch 2
7 Killed by Gem and Etho for the Infection 1
9 Died from unknown causes while fighting Scott and Gem 0

  • Big "WHAT?!": His reaction to the Big Dogs faction dying and going Red on Day 4, both times.
  • Blood Knight: He makes multiple comments on Day 7 about wanting to go and fight the Infected instead of holing up with the rest of the Survivors and eventually does so. While this does lead to his death and infection, he's not too torn up about it and subsequently leads many of the charges against the rest of the Survivors rather gleefully.
  • Exact Eavesdropping: After Bdubs' death, Joel is able to hide behind the Mounders' main base walls to listen in on Gem recruiting Bdubs into the Boogey-pocalypse. In turn, Joel is able to alert Grian, and by extension, everyone else on the server to start making preparations.
  • Now, Buy the Merchandise: His assigned task on Day 1 is to do this four times in the session, at the worst timing possible.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: On Day 2, Joel gets bored and nopes out halfway through Bdubs telling a long-winded story; it is invoked, as Bdubs required such a reaction to complete his assigned secret task for the session.
  • Skewed Priorities: Invoked. Since Joel's Day 1 task is to plug the Life series merch "at the worst possible times", he usually chooses to interpret this as advertising while fighting mobs.
  • Tempting Fate: On Day 6, after failing his secret task and accidentally breaking his own crops with a badly placed water bucket, Joel asks, "Could this day get any worse?" Two seconds later, his wife gets Killed Off for Real.
  • Too Upset to Create: After failing to complete his secret task on Day 6, Joel refuses to build anything for the remainder of the session, citing this.
  • Waxing Lyrical: Invoked. His Day 4 task requires him to quote the lyrics of "All Star" by Smash Mouth; Scott comments on how appropros the task is, given Joel's Minecraft skin used to be Shrek and his current skin is still a humanized version of the character.
  • Worthy Opponent: While the Infected are chasing down Joel on Day 7, Gem briefly sits back to consider rooting for Joel for his sheer tenacity, having set down 64 Zombie spawn eggs across the server while on the run.

A goofy guy with a heart of gold. Though he's not the smartest and a bit of a coward, Jimmy does his very best to keep his allies together, and tries to learn as much as he can from those around him.
  • Canary in a Coal Mine: Downplayed. In the first four seasons, Jimmy was the first to die permanently and is referred to as a canary in some parts of the fandom — a warning for the other players that things had gotten serious as this was the first point people were being Killed Off for Real. Played with in Secret Life when Lizzie is the one to go out first, but disaster in the form of the Day 7 server-wide Zombie Apocalypse continues to follow in the wake of Jimmy's own passing at the end of Day 6.
The Watcher: Canary call, the first to fall
    Forever caged in different walls
  • In-Series Nickname: Many members on the server call him "Timmy" or variations thereof. It began as a running joke originating from his time on the Evolution SMP, which multiple Life SMP members also played on, and is revealed to take place in the same continuity as the "Eyes and Ears" continuity of the Life series. It's led to some actual confusion as to what his real name is.

Faction: The Flower Forest
Jimmy, wanting to avoid faction drama as much as possible, teams with Scott early on and founds the Flower Forest faction. There, they get married and try to settle down peacefully. However, as the server's politics gets more and more hectic, Jimmy finds himself struggling more and more to guarantee his and his husband's safety.

  • Big "NO!": His reaction after he loses his third and final life.
  • Butt-Monkey: His first two deaths are within minutes of each other, and are caused by situations he placed himself into.
  • Defiant Stone Throw: On Day 5, when Ren comes in demanding tribute from the Flower Forest faction, Jimmy is on board with hearing him out… until Ren not-so-subtly implies that said tribute would include one of Scott's lives. Jimmy responds by shutting down negotiations, burning Ren's banner, and telling him and Martyn in no uncertain terms to get lost.
  • Epic Fail: Grian sets up a lava moat around the desert bunker to kill his enemies, but places Jimmy in charge of it while he and Scott act as bait. Jimmy doesn't activate it until Grian himself is caught in it, leading to Grian getting stuck in the moat and being swiftly killed by Martyn.
  • Killed Off for Real: He has the dubious distinction of being the first person to lose his final life, having done so on Day 7.
  • Living Emotional Crutch: Implied to be both this and a Morality Chain for Scott, since the two have been there for each other since the start of the season; after Jimmy gets killed, Scott goes off the rails and swears to be "out for blood" against Dogwarts, even after Jimmy has theoretically been avenged with Skizz's death; his only two kills in the season are committed after being widowed.
  • Together in Death: After Scott's final death, Jimmy meets him in the Afterlife (the Flower Forest base, revamped to look like what Scott wanted it to look like if he had enough time to finish it), and properly welcomes him home.
  • Too Dumb to Live:
    • After he and his allies uncover a TNT minecart trap left by Grian, Scott very wisely tells everyone to get out of the way so that they can safely detonate the minecart from a distance using an arrow. Jimmy, however, believes the bomb is disarmed and goes closer in order to grab a piece of TNTnote  — and in the process he nudges the very much armed TNT minecart, with the resulting explosion killing himself as well as Ren and Skizz.
    • Grian discusses it after Jimmy heavily contributes to Grian's first death despite them being allies. When he learns Jimmy also died in the Battle of the Red Desert, Grian offers No Sympathy whatsoever, claiming he kind of had it coming for somehow not activating the lava moat trap until Grian was the one caught in it.
  • You Monster!: During the battle at Joel's house on Day 6, Jimmy calls Martyn a monster for killing Joel's Savage Wolves.

Jimmy joins the Southlands on Day 1 and is primarily known for being their spyglass supplier, until Day 5 when he is exiled for running off with one of Martyn's lives during their daily trust game. He ends up being tentatively reintegrated into the Southlands following Grian's return, but is soon kicked again after he turns Red.

He winds up teaming with Mumbo, and attempts to trap Grian and Martyn. The trap failes miserably, and when Jimmy ticks Grian off a bit too much by punching him, both of them are hunted down and killed.

  • Digging Yourself Deeper: Following Grian's return to the Southlands, he and the other Southlanders reevaluate Jimmy's earlier betrayal. Jimmy attempts to salvage his integrity by telling them how he trusted Martyn when he proposed that they leave the Southlands together. This fails utterly as Martyn's offer was a complete scam to get back the life Jimmy stole, meaning Jimmy's claim amounts to saying he betrayed the Southlands once and he'd immediately do it again. Somehow, Jimmy is acquitted of his crime.
  • Dirty Coward: After Grian turns Red and the Southlands starts to become a bigger target, Jimmy runs off with Martyn's life during their trust exercise, fully intending on abandoning the Southlands and hiding. Martyn tricks him into giving the life back, however, and when he returns to try to get it back, the other Southlanders tell him to get lost.
  • The Exile: After stealing Martyn's life at the start of Day 5, Jimmy is officially banned from the Southlands. He is allowed back in after Grian returns later on Day 5 and forces everyone else to vote on whether or not to keep him.
  • Running Gag: Jimmy keeps making spyglasses for Mumbo, and Mumbo keeps losing them. Over and over again.
  • Too Dumb to Live:
    • Upon his return to the Southlands after his brief exile, Jimmy manages to step into every single trap the other Southlanders had set there while he was away, though he survives them.
    • When he goes Red, he somehow assumes that the "all previous alliances are void" rule doesn't apply to him, and keeps trying to get his stuff from the Southlands, even after his former allies make it clear he isn't welcome back. Grian sics his wolf army on Jimmy for his troubles.
    • On Day 7, Jimmy attacks a fully-geared Grian while he himself is unarmed. Grian predictably starts attacking back, causing Jimmy to fall to his death in the process of running away.
  • You Are Already Dead: His last words just after Grian knocks him off the roof are "No, ow, I'm actually dying, I'm dead–".

  • Choke Holds: While not apparent in the series due to Minecraft limitations, cc!Jimmy reveals after the season that he envisions his character's final death in the season to be by strangulation by Enderman.invoked

  • Tempting Fate: At the start of Day 1, Jimmy resolves to gather as much food as possible because "[he's] not being the first to die in this series". That's exactly what happens on Day 5, and one of the reasons for it happening in the first place is him not having food on him to heal up.

  • All for Nothing: On Day 1, Jimmy guts a bamboo patch and a small mangrove swamp so he can have monopolies on both, but when he brags to Joel about it, Joel reveals that he got to the bamboo first and had already traded some to Scott, ruining one monopoly. And unbeknownst to Jimmy, he missed a single mangrove propagule hidden away in the water which was later collected by Pearl, eliminating his second monopoly.
  • Literal Metaphor: Etho's Day 7 Boogeyman kill on Jimmy should have permanently killed him, but for unknown reasons, the Boogeyman penalty hour isn't deducted for him, causing him to rely on time gained from Mercy Kill Arrangements to survive just a little longer. You can say he's literally Living on Borrowed Time.
  • Tempting Fate: After settling with Joel and Grian on the roof of the Woodland Mansion on Day 1, Jimmy claims that no one would have the guts to burn down such a flammable structure because the fire would spread to the dark oak forest around it, and "everything burns and crashes". The Life series being the Life series, the Mansion's on fire by the end of the day.
  • Token Good Teammate: Downplayed due to the Grey-and-Gray Morality. Among the Bad Boys, while he has assisted in other kills, Jimmy has the lowest intentional kill tally (1, not counting the two Mercy Kill Arrangements he has) in contrast to his teammates' double-digits, and is the only person in the group not known for going bloodthirsty and/or completely off the rails. He's far more likely to negotiate with others as opposed to going on murderous rampages or deadly pranking sessions, and even when he tries to commit murder, he's more likely than not to fail miserably (see his final death, for one).
  • You Fool!: He screams this in the in-game chat on Day 6 after Grian triggers Pearl's trap in the Nosy Neighbours' tower, killing both him and Lizzie-as-Pearl.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: Jimmy yells "Are you kidding me?!" after respawning from Scar's triple TNT minecart kill.

Secret Life

Faction: Big Dogs

  1. On Day 1, Jimmy's assigned task is to break five crafting tables while they are being used. He succeeds in this task by the end of the session.
  2. On Day 2, his assigned task is to have someone tell him to "get out of here!" He fails at this task by the end of the session because most of the server treated his behaviour as an Unusually Uninteresting Sight.
  3. On Day 3, his assigned task is to rebind his movement keys out-of-universe for 30 minutes of the session while interacting with others, and to restart his timer if anyone points out his strange movements. He succeeds in this task by the end of the session, though not without dying from some unfortunate encounters with the undead.
  4. On Day 4, his assigned task is to convince two players to play a minigame, where one of them must take damage. While he claims to have succeeded in this task by the end of the session, having seemingly burnt Big B with a lava bucket while trying to have him dodge it, in reality, it burnt his skeleton horse mount and not Big B himself.
  5. On Day 5, his assigned tasks begin to vary as a Red Life:
    • His first task is to hit a Green Name with a sword until they either block with a shield or die. He succeeds in this task by targeting Skizz, with Big B helping him as part of his own task, in an attempt to sow discord in the Heart Foundation.
    • His second task is to find a Green Name with at least 20 hearts of health and take approximately 10 hearts off of them in any way. He succeeds in this task by lighting a piece of TNT on Tango and whacking him with a sword for good measure.
  6. On Day 6, his assigned tasks continue to vary as a Red Life:
    • His first task is to replace the water under Gem's diving board with blue glass without getting caught, succeeding if someone takes damage from it and failing if they find the glass or refuse to jump. He fails at this task after Pearl notices the blue glass before taking any dives off the board.
    • His second task is to punch another player into lava. He is unable to complete this task, dying before being able to do so.

Day Cause Lives remaining
3 Impaled by a trident-wielding Drowned 2
4 Slammed into an obsidian pillar by the Ender Dragon 1
6 Killed by Etho's Warden 0

  • Accidental Murder: After finding an invisible rider on a Skeleton Horse on Day 5, Jimmy decides to check who that person's identity is by whacking them with a sword. Lizzie, being on low health and not wearing any armour at the time, is immediately sent to join him and Martyn in the Red Name club because of this.
  • Attending Your Own Funeral: On Day 6, Cleo and Scott preemptively hold a funeral for Jimmy because he's never made it to his own funeral before, and so he can have a eulogy to himself. He is quite offended by this because he's not even dead at the time.
Jimmy: No, that's not– You're not supposed to attend funerals if you're still alive, the person you're doing it for.
  • Big "WHAT?!": On Day 8, Jimmy asks Etho who among the eliminated players he misses the most, via Grian as a proxy; this is Jimmy's first response when Etho replies he misses Mumbo the most… and again when he says Lizzie second.
  • Epic Fail: How Jimmy's Day 2 task turns out — while attempting to get himself kicked out of someone else's house, he accidentally starts a server-wide sleepover in said house.
  • Hope Spot: On Day 6, Jimmy is overjoyed when he finally breaks his streak of always being out first when Lizzie dies and makes plans to host a party the next episode… only to die in second place by the end of the episode. That being said, he's still content about it despite his initial anger at Grian and Etho for luring the two boss mobs to the surface in the first place.
Jimmy: (posthumously) Out again… but the Curse is broken, and that's what matters to me.
  • Our Ghosts Are Different: Despite being out of the series, Jimmy returns on Day 8 as part of Grian's task as a ghost in spectator mode. Though ostensibly there to give Grian guidance (and does to some extent), Jimmy spends most of his time compelling Grian to perform various odd actions, which Grian is required to perform as part of the task. He briefly reveals himself to everybody else at the end of the session after Grian completes the task.
  • The Thing That Would Not Leave: Invoked on Day 2, where Jimmy tries to bunk up in Pearl, Mumbo, and Gem and the Scotts' houses so he'd be told to "Get Out!" and complete his secret task. He fails the task because his first two targets were too polite to say anything, with Mumbo even being okay with the whole ordeal; and Jimmy himself is running on Exact Words for the entire challenge and refuses to accept similar alternatives for telling him to "Get Out!".

  • Screams Like a Little Girl: Lets out an epic one as he jumps off a cliff into a tree to his final death.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: Can be heard yelling "ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!" after respawning from his first death.

IGN: Tango
Preferred name: Tango
First Joined: 3rd Life
Active Seasons: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
Tango is an opportunistic solo player, and a talented redstoner. He's unique in that he often comes up with minigames to play on the server, which many enthusiastically participate in in the early days of each season.
  • Big "NO!": Is very prone to letting these out in epic proportions before or just after his deaths.
  • Quest Giver: In both 3rd Life and Last Life, Tango created an avoidable but rewarding minigame. The first minigame was "Dare to Flare", where the challenge was avoiding falling lava traps with Feather Falling as the reward and losing a life if the player would fail; and the second game was "You Bet Your Life" where the challenge was making a guess on who would turn Red first with the participants having to bet their lives, the losers permanently lost their lives and the winner was given an advantage in the bigger game.
  • Unstoppable Rage: When he's wronged, he enters a blind state of pure rage, indicated by ragged breathing, threats, and Angrish. He first enters this state in Last Life, when Bdubs, his teammate, was the Boogeyman and chose to kill him immediately after he had given Bdubs a life. Next is in Double Life when his and Jimmy's ranch was burned to the ground by Scar. Both times, his allies try to calm him to no avail.

3rd Life

Faction: The Village People, None (formerly), The Crastle
Tango was an initial member of the Village, with Etho and Impulse. Once that alliance starts to fracture, Tango goes off on his own, creating the first and only minigame on the server, and trying to stay out of trouble. However, after getting trapped in the Crastle with the Desert and Crastle folk, and after the death of Cleo, Tango swears his allegiance to Bdubs and joins him in the fight against Dogwarts.

  • Non-Action Guy: Tango is more of a redstoner than a fighter. It doesn't stop him from going into battle, but when he does, it usually doesn't end well for him.
Tango: (after his last death) Ladies and gentlemen, PVP is not my specialty, in case you didn't notice!

Last Life

On Day 1, he comes up with "You Bet Your Life", a game where players can wager their lives, and bet on who would turn Red first. Lizzie ends up winning this game.

By the end of Day 2, he has joined with Bdubs, Etho and Skizz in an alliance named B.E.S.T., and on Day 3, they begin living together in a snow fortress.

  • Tempting Fate: On Day 4, just before the choosing of the Boogeyman, Tango discusses with Grian about how neither of them have been the Boogeyman in either season of the mechanism being in place. Soon after this, Tango receives the murder geas.
  • You Are Already Dead: Near the end of Day 6, while under pursuit from Grian and Joel, Tango throws an Ender pearl at 1.5 hearts in an attempt to escape. He has just enough time to acknowledge he's going to die from Teleportation Sickness before he actually does.

Secret Life

Faction: The Heart Foundation, Warm-Bloods/Survivors (Day 7, formerly), the Infected (Day 7)

  1. On Day 1, Tango's assigned task is to get Scar to talk about Star Wars for over 60 seconds. Scar being Scar, he succeeds in this task by the end of the session.
  2. On Day 2, his assigned task, submitted by Gareth, is to make a bet with another player and win. He succeeds in this task by the end of the session, by betting on who would be the first to pick up a golden apple in a private chat.
  3. On Day 3, his assigned task, submitted by chaoticgoodwings, is to have an Imaginary Friend and talk to them as if they were following him around the entire session and part of every conversation he has, with the requirement for social interaction. While he technically succeeds in this task, Martyn manages to suss out the nature of his task, resulting in instant failure.
  4. On Day 4, his assigned task is to be actively involved in three different conversations with Mumbo and mimic his every move; he would instantly fail if anyone calls him out on it. He succeeds in this task by the end of the session.
  5. On Day 5, his assigned task, submitted by obscureSwan, is to be in a game of tag with Impulse, Scott, and Bdubs, with whoever still being "it" at the session break and the end of the session failing; Yellow Names have to guess all four people involved for them to fail that way. He fails at this task by the end of the session, being "it" when the session break is called.
  6. On Day 6, real-life Tango is Put on a Bus and Ren plays his account as a substitute. Ren's assigned task is to have an Imaginary Friend who is exactly like Tango. The wording is the exact same as his Day 3 task; he must pretend Tango is following him around and must include him in conversations. He suceeds this task by the end of the session.
  7. On Day 7, his initial assigned task, submitted by CherubimCW, is to announce himself as the Genie of the server at the start of the session and grant three wishes from three different players; however, he is required to get some part of the wish wrong. This is negated when Scar infects him with the Boogeyman curse, causing him to adopt Gem's secret task of spreading the infection across the server. He fails at this task by the end of the session, failing to infect Cleo, Grian, Scott in the end.
  8. On Day 8, his assigned Red task is to Ender-pearl into a conversation and deal as much damage to as many people as possible, and Ender-pearl away either if he's hit back or if everyone flees. He does not complete this task by the end of the session, in part due to how terribly PVP tends to go for him.
  9. On Day 9, his assigned task as a Red Life is the same as everybody else: to win Secret Life. He fails at this task by the end of the session.

Day Cause Lives remaining
7 Killed by Big B's overprotective wolf 2
7 Killed by Scar, Gem, and Skizz for the Infection 1
9 Betrayed and spleefed by Scar while burning Bdubs' globe 0

  • Cherry Tapping: On Day 9, his health ends up dropping down to a single heart. All it takes is Scar spleefing him a short fall distance to finish him off.
  • Did You Actually Believe...?: For his Day 1 task, Tango pretends to be curious about Ahsoka's backstory to get Scar to deep dive into Star Wars lore. When he reveals his task to the public after collecting his reward from the Secret Keeper, he mockingly tells Scar that he couldn't care less.
  • Imaginary Friend: Invoked.
    • Tango adopts one named 'Torchy', visualized in-game as an actual torch, for the purpose of fulfilling his Day 3 secret task, knowing full well that he's quickly going to get caught. He does.
    • Ren, playing Tango, has an imaginary friend who acts exactly like Tango for his Day 6 task. Thankfully, he doesn't get caught by Yellows.
  • Put on a Bus: Played with. Since Tango can't make it to the recording session due to going on vacation, Ren subs in for him on Day 6. However, since they're playing on the same account, Ren has to very unconvincingly play Tango for the session.
  • Temporarily Exaggerated Trait: Day 6 has Tango being subtituted by Ren; Ren exaggerates Tango's tendency to add '-ificate', '-ification', and '-ificator' and sticks it onto random words, even when it doesn't make sense.
"Tango": I need some advisification, everybody...

IGN: ZombieCleo
Preferred name: Cleo
First Joined: 3rd Life
Active Seasons: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
Cleo is a ruthless fighter who thrives on chaos, and seeks to cause as much of it as possible. Though she is hellbent on creating chaos and destruction, she's also fiercely loyal to those she chooses to align herself with — and will rain absolute hellfire down upon them if she's betrayed.
  • Blood Knight: Cleo loves fighting. Her turning Red results in a Mass "Oh, Crap!" almost every time, because she becomes positively unhinged and does not hold back.
  • Fiery Redhead: She's a redhead who's quite enthusiastic to be in a fight when it comes down to it. She also gets quite easily frustrated by her oftentimes less-than-mature teammates. The 'fiery' part takes a more literal turn as she commits arson multiple times throughout the series.
  • Pyromaniac: Arguably the biggest one in the series.
    • In 3rd Life, she burns down some trees and comments on how pretty the fire is, and expresses a desire to set fire to Joel's house a few times before actually doing so.
    • During Last Life, she earns the title of "Gaslight" out of the Three G's by committing arson. Later on during a raid on Red Bridge, she asks if they can burn it, and when Scott starts to set it on fire, she responds that she was hoping to do that and places a lava bucket shortly afterwards.
    • During Limited Life, she sets fire to the Woodland Mansion on Day 1 and laughs while watching it burn. When the mansion is reset on Day 2, she rushes to set fire to it again immediately after being Boogey-killed by Joel. Later, she cheers upon finding out that the dark oak forest is on fire, and when discussing the wooden frogs on the Nosy Neighbours' tower, she states that them simply being made of wood gives her an "itch" to burn them.
  • Ridiculously Alive Undead: While she is ZombieCleo, she's functionally still a player and doesn't burn in the daylight, and needs food to survive like everyone else.

3rd Life

Factions: The Crastle
Cleo starts out wanting to ally with Bdubs, and joins him in building the Crastle. However, she finds that stoking conflict between other factions is much more fun.

She is eventually forced to pick a side when tensions between factions started mounting, choosing to fight on the Red Desert's side after Dogwarts threatens the Crastle. This winds up costing her her life, but saved Bdubs's.

Day Cause Lives remaining
6 Fell from the roof of Joel's house 2

  • Inane Blabbering: She does some when Skizzleman scares her on Day 3.
  • Karmic Death: On Day 5, Cleo sets fire to Joel's house, resulting in the roof being in disrepair. On Day 6, Cleo is walking atop the ruins of the house when she falls because the rest of the roof was burned away, killing her.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: When she, Bdubs and Tango encounter the Red Army on the way to the Crastle, she charges and attacks Ren without a word but is slain.
  • The Smurfette Principle: Cleo is the only feminine-leaning cast member in 3rd Life.
  • Tempting Fate: During the preparation phase for the Battle of the Red Desert, Cleo mentions to Scott that they would likely both outlive their "husbands" (Bdubs and Jimmy respectively), and that, when they die, they should form a pact of widows to rain hell upon the server. That is the last time they talk in the season before Cleo dies in a charge attack on Ren later that day, with Bdubs outliving her.
  • Token Evil Teammate: While Bdubs mostly just wants to barricade himself in the Crastle, Cleo actively goes out to cause chaos.
  • Worth It: After her charge attack on Ren, Cleo deems being Killed Off for Real worth the risk as a ghost.

Last Life

Factions: The Castle Alliance (formerly), The Scottage/Three Gs/Gaslight Gatekeep Girlboss, Survivors, Larger Red Alliance
Cleo was part of the Castle Alliance with Lizzie, Big B and Ren. However, on Day 4, Big B hadn't secured a Boogeyman kill near the end of the day, and killed Cleo out of desperation. Cleo sees this as a massive betrayal, and flees to the Scottage, only to die in one of Joel's traps meant for Scott and Pearl, thereby turning Red.

As a Red Life, she decides that revenge is in order and burns the Fairy Fort down to the ground, forcing Lizzie and Big B to move to the Shadow Tower, forming the Shadow Alliance.

After being turned back to Yellow, Cleo approaches the Scottage again, asking for a place to stay. She is taken in by Scott and Pearl, who give her an extra life and a safe place, but it won't be long before the Reds would destroy the Scottage, forcing the three of them to flee. Cleo remains loyal to Scott and Pearl, and sides with the Larger Red Alliance after the Reds fracture. She helps them all hunt down Grian and Joel, but is killed by Joel in the ensuing chase.

  • In-Series Nickname: Of the Three Gs, she's "Gaslight" for burning down the Fairy Fort.
  • Motive Rant: Cleo does this while burning down the Fairy Fort on Day 5.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Most of Day 5 is spent by Cleo as a Red Name threatening the entire server, but with a particular focus on ensuring that Big B/"Terry" is perpetually in terror any time Cleo is anywhere near him. Part of this reign of terror has the Fairy Fort reduced to smoking ashes, and she actively warns the former Fairy Fort alliance that as long as they stand with Big B, they're all potential targets.

  • Escort Distraction: Cleo gets Tango and Jimmy to leave their base on Day 2 by telling them that Scar's made something cool. They buy it and run off, allowing Scott to enter the base through a secret tunnel and steal away all of their goats.
Cleo and Martyn work together upon turning Red.

  • Blatant Lies: On the burning of the Bad Boys Manor, AKA the Woodland Mansion, on Day 1:
    Grian: Who's responsible for this?
    Cleo: No idea.
  • Continuity Nod: Near the end of Day 1, Cleo warns Pearl that her teammate, Big B, will not be a safe person to be around if he becomes the Boogeyman, which is something she knows from experience. Fortunately for Big B, Cleo is much more civil to him in this season.
  • Foreshadowing: On Day 8, after Scar returns from ambushing and killing Tango, Cleo compares their life-times and surmises that they'll die together. While it's not by natural causes, the two do indeed end up being Killed Off for Real about 20 seconds apart from each other.
  • Kill Steal: Defied in the finale; after Pearl's minigame, Cleo's editor's note states that she could have stolen Impulse's kill on the two original Nosy Neighbours with his End crystal, but the only reason she didn't was because her crossbow was loaded with a firework instead of an arrow.
  • Mama Bear: In the finale, Cleo immediately tries to kill Grian for permanently killing Scar. Deconstructed as the other Nosy Neighbours come to his aid immediately, and Pearl takes Cleo herself out of the game altogether 20 seconds later.
  • Not Me This Time: She says this verbatim on Day 3 when the Mean Gills ask her if she set fire to the forest, since she set fire to the Bad Boys Manor the last two days.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: She outlives both Bdubs and Scar, albeit for the latter, it's only by 20 seconds.
  • Parental Favoritism: Gem-as-Cleo repeatedly refers to Scar as her "favourite son", often in front of Bdubs. Regular-Cleo seems to favour Scar over Bdubs as well due to Bdubs' apparently fluctuating loyalty between the Clockers and the T.I.E.S, but is much more subtle about it.
  • Put on a Bus: Played with. Due to her computer dying just hours before the recording session, GeminiTay subs in for Cleo on Day 6. However, since they're playing on the same account, Gem has to very unconvincingly play Cleo for the session, and her voice and different behaviour is written off as her having an "amnesia-cold".
  • Team Mom: Parodied at first. She has involuntarily been assigned this role for Entertainment Mountain, who have even taken to calling her "Mom" for handling out supplies like armour to them out of concern for their safety. As the series progresses, she accepts her role and plays this trope straight.
  • Tempting Fate:
    • After the first Boogeyman kill of Day 1, Cleo says that she didn't think there would be another Boogeyman as more than one seemed like a lot. Minutes later, the Boogeyman curse is rerolled onto her teammate.
    • Near the end of Day 1, Cleo brushes off her first death because the Bad Boys can't attack her in revenge for burning down their base "so long as they're Green". The very next day, the Bad Boys take advantage of Joel's Boogeyman status to get their revenge while still on Green, and the only reason Cleo loses one hour instead of two is because the game registered Scar's death just before hers.
  • This Means Warpaint: After being killed by Joel, Cleo paints her own blood under her eyes to signify her increasing hostility and plans for retaliation.

Secret Life

Faction: The Heart Foundation (formerly); the Roomies; Warm-Bloods/Survivors (Day 7)

  1. On Day 1, Cleo's assigned task is to build her base directly above another player's above ground. She succeeds in this task by the end of the session by obstructing Lizzie's base-building.
  2. On Day 2, their assigned task is to use a pig as their main mode of transportation for half of the session. They succeed in this task by the end of the session, at great cost to their health.
  3. On Day 3, her assigned task, submitted by KoolaEar, is to film a nature documentary about two other players for at least five minutes, and stop and start over with another person if anyone notices or interrupts her. She succeeds in this task by the end of the session after several attempts.
  4. On Day 4, their assigned task, submitted by Goomer82, is to leave her secret task book in another person's base and get someone to read it to deliberately expose the task. They succeed in this task mere minutes into the session, convincing Bdubs, Tango, Skizz, Mumbo, and Grian to read her book on a lectern.
  5. On Day 5, her assigned task, submitted by skypig, is to compete against another player on the server in a race to obtain five front doors from other server-members; this is accompanied with a warning to beware of Yellow Names. She succeeds in this task by the end of the episode, asking for doors from Tango and Skizz, Bdubs, Pearl, Mumbo, and Scar (the latter with a bribe).
  6. On Day 6, their assigned task, in part submitted by jamcdonald120, is to stand in a circle of different kinds of flowers and spin, but they must guess this task from playing a "hot or cold" game with the non-Red population of the server, who all know what their task is; they are not allowed to ask what their task is exactly. They succeed in this task by the end of the episode.
  7. On Day 7, she is told that Skizz and Etho are the angel and devil on her shoulder, that she must pretend she doesn't know when they tell her their tasks, and to alternate between taking their respective influences in decision-making without arousing suspicion from either of them. She is one of the three survivors of the Infected Apocalypse, along with Grian and Scott.
  8. On Day 8, their assigned task, submitted by supergratmonkey, is to play Secret Santa and give gifts to players she deems "nice" and trick, hurt, or steal from those she deems "naughty", with no repeats for either. She fails at this task by the end of the session.
  9. On Day 9, her assigned task as a Red Life is the same as everybody else: to win Secret Life. She fails at this task by the end of the session.

8 Shot by Pearl for killing her dogs and betraying her 1

  • Exact Words: While asking to obtain front doors from Gem and the Scotts on Day 5, Gem's first instinct is to ask, as a Yellow Name, if their task is to steal five people's front doors. Cleo replies that she is incorrect, citing that they don't have to steal the doors. It's later clarified after the race that Gem was their competitor and didn't want to repeat her own task back to Cleo, and only did it to try and stop them from winning, not to guess their task.
  • Good Angel, Bad Angel: Referenced in Cleo's Day 7 secret task, with Skizz and Etho acting as the angel and devil for her, respectively.
  • Gotta Kill Them All: On Day 2, Cleo starts to plot murder against everyone that has wronged her in the session for impeding in her completing her assigned task — Grian for stealing her second pig and forcing her to get a third one, Mumbo for leading a baby zombie to her and almost killing her, and formerly Big B for mocking her when she's on low health and refusing to give her a heart (he's taken off the list when he does),
  • The Ground Is Lava: She explains her Day 2 antics as "the floor is lava" as code for the nature of her assigned task; downplayed in that she can touch the ground for short periods of time if necessary.
  • Ironic Name: Near the end of Day 7, Scott remarks on the irony that ZombieCleo is the main target of the Zombie Apocalypse and de facto leader of the Survivors.
  • Last of His Kind: The last Green Name on the server after the Apocalypse causes the remaining Green Names to start dropping like flies. While they also lose their first life on Day 7, it's by drowning rather than at the hands of the Infected directly.
  • Oh, Crap!: Cleo's reaction to reading her Day 2 task is to scream "PANIC!" in the subtitles, knowing most, if not all pigs had been killed on Day 1 for food as they had no other resource use. She proceeds to drive herself into a frenzy for the next eleven minutes of her episode trying to obtain a pig, a saddle, and a carrot on a stick to complete her task.
  • Right Under Their Noses: Near the end of Day 7, Cleo manages to evade Impulse by burying herself in a hole underground; Impulse manages to dig near her but fails to uncover her. She attempts to do this again on Day 9 to escape the enemy alliance, but Scar catches her before she can cover herself and jumps in the hole with her, killing her.
  • Wildlife Commentary Spoof: Invoked on Day 3 as her assigned secret task.
    • First, Cleo tries to kill two birds with one stone by narrating Skizz and Tango's actions at the same time. However, she gets caught by Lizzie, forcing her to find a new pair of targets.
Cleo: Here we see two idiots in the natural environment, arguing over who they're going to give their hearts to, because that's [a] completely normal thing for them to argue about. They have no idea that I am in the midst of... uh, creeping on their base and them. They've pretty much forgotten I'm here, which is good, 'cause that's exactly what I want.
    • Later, she tries to narrate Scott and Gem, only for them to disappear from view, her to get distracted widening a makeshift bridge, and Lizzie to interrupt that too.
    • Finally, she succeeds in narrating Bdubs, Mumbo, and Scar chatting from a distance using a spyglass.
