Worlds collide on a universal scale!

The Universe 6 Arc (第6宇宙編, Dai Roku Uchū Hen), also called the God of Destruction Champa Arc (破壊神シャンパ編, Hakaishin Shanpa Hen) or the Universe 6 vs. Universe 7 Arc (第6宇宙VS第7宇宙編 Dai Roku Uchū VS Dai Nana Uchū Hen), is the third story arc in the Dragon Ball Super series. It is the first television arc in the franchise since Dragon Ball GT to not be based on any pre-existing material.

Short Summary

With Frieza defeated and sent back to Hell, Goku and Vegeta continue on with their training when Champa, Beerus's brother, pays a house call. Wanting to prove he's better then him, Champa suggests a tournament between his chosen fighters from Universe 6 and Beerus's own fighters of Universe 7 where the winner gets to use the Super Dragon Balls for whatever they want. Beerus reluctantly agrees and Goku and Vegeta are among the fighters chosen for the interdimensional tournament.

Sometime after the battle against Golden Frieza, Goku is sparring with Vegeta on Beerus' planet which is being supervised by Whis. Goku and Vegeta fight on even terms until Vegeta got angry and went Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan. Goku gets blasted by a ki blast from Vegeta. Goku reminds Vegeta that Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan was off-limits but turns Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan anyway. While stating their power to each other, Goku bites his tongue saying Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan repeatedly. Goku asks for a new name and a suggestion given from Whis is "Super Saiyan Blue". Whis punishes Goku and Vegeta for transforming by making them put on heavy spacesuits. While Goku and Vegeta bicker at each other, Champa and Vados suddenly arrive on Beerus' planet. Goku notices that they both look like Beerus and Whis and was told by Vados that she is Whis' sister and Beerus and Champa are twins. Beerus is woken up by Whis with the request of Champa. When they both get back, Goku and Vegeta are told that the Universe 6 has their own Earth and the Earthlings were wiped out by war. Champa challenges Beerus to a five on five Universe 6 and Universe 7 tournament for the Universe 7's Earth, which makes Goku excited.

After Whis explains why Beerus and Champa don't fight each other anymore, they discuss the details for the tournament. The rules will be the same as the World Martial Arts Tournament and will be in five Earth days on the Nameless Planet at 10 a.m. If Champa won, he will use the Super Dragon Balls to switch the universes' Earths. If Beerus won, he will give him the six Super Dragon Balls he collected but Beerus has to find the last one on his own. Goku and Vegeta join Beerus' team off the bat. They also select Piccolo, Buu, and Beerus wants the strongest fighter he's ever faced, who's not Whis. Gohan is suggested by Vegeta to fight because he has the highest potential but Goku doesn't want him to because he's focused on studying. Goku and Vegeta go back to Earth to get Bulma to invent a new Dragon Radar to locate the last Super Dragon Ball. After some time, Bulma creates a new Dragon Radar called, the Super Dragon Radar. Goku tests it out but it doesn't work where they are, at the edge of the universe. Bulma gets in contact with her sister, Tights, to get Jaco to go to Earth.

Piccolo, Goku, and Vegeta head to Capsule Corporation, where Bulma is waiting on Jaco. Piccolo examines the Super Dragon Radar but while examining it, Goku asks Vegeta if he wants to train in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber but Vegeta says that they're close to their limits. Goku says he will train alone and become stronger quicker, which leads to Vegeta wanting to train with him also and they could go all-out because they're two of them. Goku asks Piccolo to train with him but he declines. In 50 minutes, Jaco shows up and tells Bulma that as a Galactic Patrolman, he's busy but he'll take her to see Zuno and ask where the center of the universe is to use the Super Dragon Radar. Goku tells Vegeta that they both have feisty wives. Vegeta doesn't mind so much because he says that Saiyan women are strong-willed. Goku then comments that he likes Chi-Chi the way she is.

Bulma and Jaco then arrive on Zuno's planet, where they are told they cannot go meet him because they haven't arranged a meeting and that somebody else is already there. The other person there is an assassin from the universe, so Jaco defeats him. To repay them, Zuno agrees to help them. To show Zuno's knowledge to Bulma, and can answer anything, Jaco then kisses his cheek, (because that's how you get Zuno to answer a question) and then asks what size Bulma's breasts are. When Zuno answers correctly, Bulma gets ticked off, that he was correct, kisses his cheek, and then can ask three questions. She accidentally asks if she does get three wishes, so that is one wasted, then she asks about the Super Dragon Balls. Zuno says that they were created around the beginning of time by the dragon god Zalama. He created them to be the size of planets, then he used a technique to make them look like stars from far away. And that they are scattered across the sixth and seventh universe. Bulma wastes the third ask so then Bulma and Jaco leave to go back to Earth.

Goku and Vegeta are training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. Goku wonders if the warriors from Universe 6 will be strong. Vegeta says that Champa is confident in his warriors even though he saw the two Saiyans train before. Goku is excited to see them and even the fighter Beerus has been speaking of. Vegeta wants Goku to act his age. Not knowing what he meant, Goku responds saying that Saiyans stay young they reach the age of 80. Vegeta was, however, talking about his mentality. Vegeta wants to stop talking then turns into Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan. Goku follows so they both could go all out in the room because it doesn't break. They train for three years in the room (three days in the outside world).

On the day of the tournament, Goku and Vegeta finish their training in the Time Chamber and have beards after training for three years. The gang is on their way to Beerus' planet to pick up Beerus and his pick for the team. They are being taken there by Whis in his Cube. As Vegeta wonders who the mystery attendant in the Cube is, Whis says that he's the strongest being Beerus has ever faced, Monaka. Goku greets Monaka and questions his name, which means nipples. Later, everyone is playing Shiritori. When Whis says the phrase, "Juri-Juri", Goku questions a "Juri-Juri" so Whis responds saying that it's a bird from his planet. On the Nameless Planet, Goku is amazed along with the rest of the group seeing the size of the Super Dragon Balls. Upon landing, he notices Supreme Kai and Kibito and wonders why they're separate. While Supreme Kai is explaining the situation, Goku notices two beings, the Supreme Kai of Universe 6 and his attendant. Goku quickly rushes to meet them but is told that the written exam is beginning. When walking towards the stage, Goku recognizes a familiar face to which Vegeta exclaims is Frieza. It turns out not to be Frieza because Piccolo doesn't sense an evil presence from him. Goku also notices another fighter from Universe 6, Magetta, and wonders if he's "human".

The written exam is about to begin on the command of Vados. As Goku is about to take his seat to take the exam, he sees Cabba. Goku and Vegeta are recognized by Cabba to be a Saiyan and he also reveals that he's a Saiyan, which surprises them. Vegeta comments on Cabba's attire and says that the attire he's wearing resembles the style the Saiyans wore before getting taken over by Frieza, which Cabba doesn't seem to know Frieza. Vegeta asks Cabba what planet the Saiyans are based on in their universe and Cabba responds saying Planet Sadla, the origin planet of the Saiyans. Cabba is curious if Planet Sadla exists in Universe 7 but Vegeta says that it has been destroyed because of an internal conflict between Saiyans and he further explains what happens after that. Goku then asks Cabba where his tail is to which Cabba says that they had tails long ago but don't know because they evolved. Vegeta wonders if they're still a "warrior race" and Cabba says they are but they do not steal planet but their main objective is to get rid of evildoers. As Vados yells at them for not taking a seat, Vegeta demands that Cabba takes him to Sadla when he can and tells him not to worry because they do not steal planets anymore. Cabba agrees.

The exam is said to have ten simple questions to see what little knowledge the warriors have. After ten minutes, the results are in and Goku barely passes with a fifty-percent. However, their team is short of one character because Buu falls asleep during it. Goku blames Vegeta for requesting such a thing. Goku is the first to fight because he wants to see how strong the Universe 6 team is, he even says it may end with him only. He is first matched against Universe 6's, Botamo. After the universe anthem is sung, the match begins, but as soon as the match begins, Goku is immediately rushed by Botamo. Goku is struggling to dodge his attacks and eventually gets hit. Beerus is wondering what Goku is doing but Goku says he's just trying to exercise his meal off.

Goku begins running in the ring while Botamo is trying to attack him. He even fires beams at Goku but they fail to connect. Botamo eventually is worn out so Goku takes advantage of this as he is done exercising his meal. Goku attacks Botamo but no one can see him move because he's moving at an immense speed. Goku is taking control of this match but Botamo isn't done because he has a surprise for Goku. Goku is attacking Botamo but he isn't taking any damage, returning quickly to the fight. Goku even fires a Kamehameha at Botamo but he takes it. Goku thinks of an idea to beat Botamo. He then pushes Botamo down and drags him to the edge of the ring. As Botamo tries to punch Goku after trying several times attacking him, Goku grabs his arm and throws him out of the ring, resulting in a ring out.

After taking out Botamo, Goku suddenly looks over at another one of Universe 6's fighters who is not paying attention to the fight and has his arms crossed. Goku's next challenger is Frost. Before they begin their match, they both wish each other luck and shake each other's hands. As the Tournament Presenter commences the match, Goku is charged by Frost and they both attack and block each other's attacks in rapid succession. Goku and Frost are on par with each other. Goku uppercuts Frost in the gut and kicks him, sending him to the arena floor. Goku assumes that Frost is trying to test his power but Frost says he isn't doing so. Goku is eager to see Frost transform into his final form but Frost wonders how he knew he could. Goku tells Frost that he fought someone similar to him and tells him that he should transform so he wouldn't be defeated without using his true power. Frost takes the advice and transforms into his "final form".

Goku is surprised at Frost's transformation and says he hasn't seen that form previously. Frost wonders if he in Universe 7 has beaten him but Goku doesn't want to say so Frost assumes he didn't. Goku and Frost then charge at each other and battle it out again. They both attack each other again until Frost fires a finger blast at Goku and it has Goku crashing to the ground. Goku immediately hops up, not taking serious damage. Goku still thinks Frost is hiding another transformation so he transforms into Super Saiyan. Goku has Frost terrified so he charges towards Frost. As he does so, Frost transforms into his true final form. Goku is glad to see the form he remembers. As a Super Saiyan Goku completely outclassed Frost's final form, with Frost unable to land a major blow. However, Frost does manage to land a weak blow to Goku which instantly renders Goku dizzy and unable to fight, leading to Frost kicking Super Saiyan Goku clean out of the ring and to the arena floor and out of the tournament and Goku being defeated by Frost. As Goku is unconscious, Chi-Chi hurries to check on him. Goku admits his loss to Frost and then Frost suddenly congratulates Goku and raises his hand. Goku then goes to sit with his team. He explains to Beerus that he thought Super Saiyan was enough for Frost and didn't think he needed to push him any further. The third match is between Piccolo and Frost. Before Piccolo's match, Piccolo asks Goku if he can beat him. Goku says he has no chance, but he should at least try to wear him out for Vegeta. Piccolo thanks him for his support.

Piccolo confronts Frost, he takes his weighted clothing off and prepares to fight. Frost first charges towards Piccolo but Piccolo vanish and move above Frost where he starts to prepare his Special Beam Cannon, Frost then fired multiple death beams at Piccolo but Piccolo dodges all of them except for one which pierced through his right leg, causing him to fall back on the ground, but then Piccolo uses the Multi-Form. Frost uses an explosive wave to wipe out all of the clones leaving the one real Piccolo behind and he then did a few swift attacks towards Piccolo and just as Frost was about to finish him off. Because of his upcoming victory, Frost is off guard. Piccolo uses the mystic arm attack and wrapped around Frost with his left arm, preparing to shoot the Special Beam Cannon at Frost. Piccolo says that he allowed Frost to pierce his leg to create this chance. However, though Frost then uses the poison against Piccolo making him feel dizzy and shot the Special Beam Cannon upwards, missing Frost. Frost then moves towards Piccolo and shoots an energy blast through Piccolo causing the Namekian's defeat. Jaco discovers that Frost is cheating by putting a poison needle in his arm, that made the person he stabbed it with dizzy, and that's how he defeated Goku and Piccolo. Once everybody finds this out, Piccolo's loss is retracted. Therefore, Piccolo will participate in the next match. However, Vegeta tells the referee to let Frost continue the tournament as Vegeta wanted to beat Frost himself, Piccolo accepts and forfeits for Vegeta.

As the match begins, both fighters seem confident about their abilities. Frost threatens to kill Vegeta and says that since there are no restrictions in using his needle he will use it as well. As Frost charges towards Vegeta, he transforms into a Super Saiyan and immediately delivers a blow to Frost in the stomach and throwing him out of bounds. After this, a new has been decided and it is that if one touches the barrier around the ring, it counts as a ring out. After the match, Frost tries to escape in Champa's cube and steal all of the riches his team was promised to share with. If he were to take the cube, not even the Gods of Destruction nor the Galactic Patrol would not be able to chase him but he is confronted by Hit. Frost is curious if the assassin was sent by Champa or even survivors from a planet he destroyed paid him off to kill him. Frost is hit with a technique by Hit and then rays of light appear out of him, preventing him from escaping. Afterward, he is then carried by back to the tournament grounds by Hit. Back at the tournament grounds, Frost sits with the rest of his team, slouched over with his eyes closed.

After watching the fights between Frost and Piccolo and Vegeta and Frost, Beerus locates a wound on Goku's hand from Frost's poison needle, allowing Goku to be re-registered back into the tournament on the grounds of Frost cheating and violating tournament rules to defeat Goku. However, Beerus absolutely insists that Monaka will remain the trump card of the team no matter what, which leads to Goku taking Vegeta's place when he loses. Goku wants to speak with Monaka but Beerus continuously protects Monaka from speaking to Goku but Monaka is unconscious after seeing Goku's Kamehameha in the first match. Beerus gets Goku away from Monaka by telling him that if Monaka is disturbed during his meditation, he will incinerate him, regardless of position. Vegeta's next fight is with Magetta, as soon as he arrives Vegeta estimates him to be slow due to his size but as he starts to punch Vegeta, he realizes that he is both powerful and fast. Vegeta attempts to get rid of Magetta's head by kicking it repeatedly. Magetta's head soon pops out with smoke. Vegeta is surprised Magetta gains both speed and power each time he attacks. He then flies towards the barrier now established in the tournament as he is aware that Magetta cannot fly due to his large size. Despite his multiple blasts at Magetta, they clash with Magetta's Magama Spit. He then dodges the magma trying to understand his strategy before the room starts to get full of smog. Vegeta clears the smog by turning into a Super Saiyan but is exhausted due to the immense heat generated by Magetta.

Magetta continues spitting lava again at Vegeta. He then lets out a hot water vapor attack which pushed Vegeta to almost fly out of the barrier. Later on, Trunks calls out on Magetta for using a weapon, but the referee says it was a natural fart. While Vegeta prepares for a Galick Gun attack, Magetta raises the temperature which causes the whole arena to become extremely hot. Magetta easily blocks Vegeta's Galick Gun with his Lava Spit which becomes solidified. He spits another lava on Vegeta and uses the lava to ambush Vegeta. He successfully hits Vegeta with a club created by the cooling of the magma, making him fall out of the ring. However, Vegeta is lucky enough to land on one of the broken rocks from the stage platform. Magetta gets pushed back by Vegeta's ki after releasing it to break the barrier. Vegeta uses his Final Flash on Magetta, while Magetta prepares for another Lava Spit. However, the Final Flash easily overcomes Magetta's lava and pushes him to the edge of the arena platform. As a result of Vegeta's Final Flash, Magetta becomes dizzy and is left open to Vegeta's attack. Despite trying to block it, Vegeta shouts out an insult which makes Magetta lose his will to fight. Thus, Magetta falls out of bounds and Vegeta is declared the winner of the match.

The next match between Cabba and Vegeta begins. Vegeta notes that Cabba has an identical fighting stance. As the battle commences, both Vegeta and Cabba are very evenly matched. As both realize this, Vegeta tells Cabba to transform into a Super Saiyan. Cabba states that he cannot transform, and then asks Vegeta how to do this. Vegeta gets angry at this, wondering how Cabba could ask him that question, and then Vegeta transforms into a Super Saiyan. Vegeta then proceeds to pummel Cabba, taunting him on how disgraceful he is. Cabba, after being pummeled, says that he surrenders to Vegeta. Vegeta gets even angrier, saying to Cabba if he surrenders, he will kill him. Vegeta then says that he will destroy Salad once the tournament is over. Cabba then fills with rage and becomes a Super Saiyan. He then attacks Vegeta with a flurry of punches, and Piccolo notes that Vegeta is struggling to combat against Cabba. After Cabba uses his Continuous Energy Bullets technique, Vegeta tells him to not forget the feeling of anger. This confusion with Cabba causes him to lose his Super Saiyan state. Vegeta then explains how the Super Saiyan transformation is achieved through anger. Cabba then understands that he only provoked him to achieve the Super Saiyan state.

Vegeta then barks at Cabba to transform again, to which he does. Vegeta turns into his most powerful form, Super Saiyan Blue, to Cabba's surprise. Vegeta then tells Cabba that he will become this powerful one day, and then knocks him out cold with a single punch to the stomach. Vegeta tells him to never forget this anger, as it is his fuel to his Super Saiyan power. The referee then declares Cabba knocked out, granting Vegeta three consecutive wins. Vegeta gets a bucket of water to wake Cabba up and splashes it on his face. Cabba bows his head toward Vegeta, which greatly upsets Vegeta, and he says that bowing to your enemy is the same as giving up, and then tells Cabba about Saiyan pride, and how it is the strength of the Saiyans. Vegeta then tells Cabba to surpass him in strength, but how Vegeta won't stop training though and for Cabba to train relentlessly. The last words of Cabba are how the Saiyan King of Universe 6 is a strong and prideful person similar to Vegeta. Vegeta replies that he hopes to meet him someday. The next battle between Hit and Vegeta begins, with both fighters having a stern face. Vegeta transforms into a Super Saiyan Blue except throughout the fight Vegeta is unable to land a single attack on Hit and is completely dominated and effortlessly beaten because Hit moves so fast that nobody can see him. Though it should also be noted that Vegeta was probably not at his peak due to fighting three fighters in a row. During the fight, Goku asks Jaco if he can see Hit's movements which Jaco says he cannot, and the Galactic King says he is using a time stopping technique that stops time for 0.1 of a second, and that's why no one can see his movements. Bulma then asks why they can't arrest him, because time travel is against the rules according to the time patrol laws, but Jaco and the galactic King say they cannot because they don't want to die. When Vegeta transformed into a Super Saiyan Blue, Monaka woke up, and was terrified, but then fell back to sleep.

After his first barrage of attacks on Vegeta, Hit puts his hands in his pockets and looks down on Vegeta, as if to tell him that he is failing in all of his attempts of countering. During the battle, Vegeta notes that the light attacks he uses are his main weakness, and shouts to Hit that he will beat him with a head-on attack, to which Hit counters with a blow to the abdomen. Vegeta then faints from the injuries he sustained. Hit then asks the Tournament Referee that if killing is illegal, to which the Referee responds yes, and then Hit says that if Vegeta couldn't surrender, he didn't know what to do and asks the referee what to do. The referee then declares Hit the winner, though it should also be noted that Vegeta was probably not at his peak due to fighting three fighters in a row. Trunks flies and gave Vegeta water, while Goku asks Krillin to get him a senzu bean. Vegeta then gets very upset that he lost to Hit and punches the ground. When it is Goku's turn to enter the arena, he asks Vegeta if there was any advice he should give him, and Vegeta coldly gives him none and tells him to do what he can. The next match between Goku and Hit begins. Before the match, Whis asks when Beerus will tell the truth that Monaka was just a random alien that he found and said was all-powerful and way stronger than Goku and Vegeta. Beerus said he doesn't want to tell them because he wants them to continue training and think that there is always someone stronger than them, so that if they win the tournament, they know, that there is somebody better than the people in the tournament. Exactly like Master Roshi did when he was Jackie Chun in the 21st World Tournament on Earth. Beerus has become a pretty good mentor.

As the bell is rung, Goku then bows to Hit, to which Hit is generally surprised. Hit then asks Goku why he does not transform into his Super Saiyan Blue form, and Goku responds by saying that it uses a lot of stamina, so he will save it for later in the match. Goku then tells Hit that he will wait to transform until he figures out a way to beat him, and Hit responds by saying how incredibly young and naive Goku must be to reveal his plan so easily. The fight then begins, with Goku getting a firm kick to the abdomen by Hit's attack. After a few attacks, Goku is still unable to counter Hit's attacks. Hit then tells Goku that his attempts are futile, and that no matter how strong he is, if he continues to get hit in his vital areas, he will die, and that he should surrender. Goku tells Hit he won't surrender, and he figured out a way to counter his attacks. Goku then stances himself, and charges at Hit, and for the first time, Goku can block Hit's Time-Skip attack. Goku then uses the opportunity and swipes at Hit, causing him to bleed. Both Champa and Beerus are completely shocked and their jaws drop. Hit is somewhat surprised and upset but then dismisses the wound as a fluke. Then Goku attacks Hit once again, and once again, Goku can deflect his attack, and lands a kick to Hit, with Hit being genuinely surprised. Many are surprised by this, and Champa is just in disbelief that Hit's Time-Skip could be countered, while Vegeta is at first surprised with this, and then gets upset that he himself couldn't get this. Goku reveals that since Hit's Time-Skip lasts 0.1 seconds, Goku easily was able to predict Hit's moves after the technique was used. Hit then takes his hands out of his pocket, realizing that he will have to fight at full power, and Goku states he will fight at full power as well.

Goku transforms into a Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan and lands a barrage of attacks on Hit. Hit then counters with his time-skip attack and seemingly knocks Goku out. Goku, of course, gets back up and continues to fight Hit. Right when Hit seems to have the upper-hand, Goku powers up into his Kaioken. Goku then combines his Super Saiyan Blue form with the Kaioken creating a Super Saiyan Blue Kaioken. Vegeta remembers when Goku used the Kaioken in their first battle on Earth. Goku then powers up to Kaioken times ten and completely dominates Hit. Goku fires an ultra Kamehameha at Hit and Hit blocks it with his own attack. Goku goes inside the beam struggle to try and get the advantage over Hit until the beam struggle explodes. Luckily, Hit was able to escape the beam struggle by using his time skip attack to escape. Goku and Hit then fist bump and fly back. Goku then holds onto his left arm, which is in pain because of the Kaioken wearing down Goku. Hit and Goku continue to fight. Goku begins to get tired and collapses. Champa once again orders Hit to finish Goku off, but once again, Hit refuses. Hit then reveals to Goku that he is not using his full power because he doesn't want to kill Goku. Goku then asks Beerus if he can change the rules and allow killing so that Goku can see Hit's full power. Champa is okay with this, but Beerus is not. Champa and Beerus then continue to argue about it, and Goku and Hit then talk about how they are just pawns in this. After a while, Goku gets fed up with their arguments and tells Hit they can fight another time and jumps out of the ring eliminating himself.

Everyone is surprised, and then Goku passes out because of the Kaioken attack. Piccolo picks up Goku and brings him back to the Universe 7 fighters when Goku tells him, "That's the last time I'll use Kaioken for a while." Beerus is enraged and is now terrified because Universe 6 will now win because the next fighter is the amateur Monaka. Monaka then nervously rises from his seat. As he jumps onto the arena, he lands with his head. As Monaka clearly expresses his nervousness and fear for fighting against Hit, Hit realizes that Monaka is just a very amateur and considerably weak fighter. Champs then rings the bell, and Monaka runs at Hit with a very weak and pathetic punch. Hit, in the rebellion of Champa and the tournament, pretends that the punch was very painful then throws himself onto the arena, and then falls onto the ground, making Monaka the winner of the final round and therefore making Universe 7 the winner of the tournament. Hit then returns to the platform and then says that he no longer wants the cube, but simply wants to be returned home immediately. Champs then tells Hit that he cannot allow him to return alive for repeatedly ignoring his orders and losing the final match so easily. Cabba then attempts to calm Champa down, but Champa then yells at him as well, then saying how all of the fighters of this tournament disgraced him and embarrassed him with their seemingly pathetic performances. Goku attempts to help, but Beerus says that it isn't in his place to interfere and that his place and role in the tournament is over. Champa then continues to make threats, and offers the fighters to use whatever techniques they want to fight him, and just as Champa is preparing to destroy them, Vados notes that the Omni-King has arrived for the tournament, as Whis also notes this as well, with both Champa and Beerus completely mortified and shocked with his arrival.

Champa and Beerus then rush over and bow down to meet them. East Supreme Kai doesn't know who Omni-King is, so Elder Kai slaps him, and all the Kai's then fly down to also greet the Omni-King. Omni-King asks what is going on. Whis and Vados inform him and tell him about Beerus and Champa's foolery, and them Omni-King says that they now might need new Gods of Destruction of universe 6 &7. Beerus and Champa scream, and then Omni-King says he was just joking. He then says that he was watching the tournament, and that he really enjoyed it and that he wants to do it again, but this time with fighters from all twelve universes. Goku then goes over and tries to talk to Omni-King, but his servants stop him. Omni-King then says it's alright and Goku shakes his hand. Omni-King then takes his servants' hands and leaves. Once Omni-King has left, Beerus then mocks Champa about how now he has the Super Dragon Balls. Champa says he doesn't care because it'll take a while for them to find the final one anyway. Champa then yells at the Universe 6 team to hurry up so they can leave. Cabba then runs over to his "Master Vegeta" and asks him when he would want him to visit Planet Salad. Vegeta then tells him to not call him Master Vegeta, and then answers, "soon." While Hit is walking away, Goku runs up to him and asks when they can fight again. Hit then stares at him for a moment, and then walks off.

Tropes:

  • The Ace:
    • This is a requirement to be appointed a God of Destruction. Both Beerus and Champa are called the strongest in their universes, although those titles really belong to Whis and Vados. Beerus and Champa simply fighting can destroy the 6 and 7 Universes.
    • Beerus claims that Monaka is this, citing him as the strongest mortal in Universe 7 who gave him a much better fight than Goku. He tells members of his team to do rock-paper-scissors to chose who will fight in what order, but says that Monaka will go last since he's the 'ace'. Beerus also seems to be afraid of him, going out of his way to keep Monaka happy. It's revealed by Whis that Monaka isn't that strong and is actually an amateur fighter who Beerus build up to motivate Goku and Vegeta into becoming stronger.
    • Hit is said to be the strongest fighter from Universa 6 and a legendary assassin who never fails to kill his target, giving him the nickname, The Flawless Hit. He definitely lives up to his reputation since he easily decimates Vegeta who was fighting as a Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan, without Vegeta even touching him once. He is also a Time Master with the ability to pause time for 0.1 seconds, making his movements invisible even to people like Jaco. He even one ups himself by showing that he can improve while fighting, taking his time-stopping power all the way to 0.5 seconds and he keeps improving.
  • Adaptive Ability: Hit has the ability to improve his Time-Leaping ability the longer he fights. He went from only being able to freeze time for 0.1 seconds, to stopping Goku while he's using Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan/Kaioken combo.
  • Adaptational Villainy: Champa and Vados are more villainous in the Super manga compared to the anime. In the manga, Champa gives Sorbet the idea to revive Frieza just to troll Beerus when no such thing happens in the anime. There is also no mention of the birthday cake incident where Vados set up Beerus and Champa to fight, which leads to several planets being destroyed. Champa is also overall nicer, treating Goku and Vegeta with some degree of respect and even sharing food with them.
  • Advertised Extra: Majin Buu, one of competitors for Universe 7, gets disqualified from the tournament for failing the preliminary test.
  • Alien Blood: Hit bleeds purple blood.
  • Aliens Speaking English: Averted with Magetta; he seems to speak in his own language.
  • Almost Out of Oxygen: In the fight against Magetta, Vegeta is greatly weakened not only by the intense heat, but also because the heat is pushing oxygen down and out of the barrier Vados created, making the air very thin. Since Vegeta is flying, he can barely breathe since oxygen becomes thinner the higher you go, and it's difficult even for him to speak, much less fight. Heat also raises, so Vegeta is experiencing even more heat since he refuses to fight Magetta on the ground, where the latter has the advantage. After Vegeta wins, he rushes to Whis and demands water, chugging down an entire pitcher's worth.
  • Alternate Universe: Universe 6 is this to Dragon Ball's Universe 7, being twins save for the fact that Earth was destroyed in a war. The Earth is later restored by Beerus using the Super Dragon Balls.
  • Always a Bigger Fish:
    • Beerus tells Goku to leave Champa be as he plans on killing the entire U6 team, causing both Champa and Beerus to give all the other characters a lecture on how, at the end, everyone is just a pawn to the Gods of Destruction. Cue the King of the Multiverse entering the stage. How powerful is he? Beerus states that he can wipe all multiverse in a second!
    • Super Shenron is the God of Dragons and the undisputed strongest Reality Warper in the series, even moreso than Vados and Whis. He is so large that he positively dwarfs an entire galaxy, and while he only grants one wish, his wish lacks any form of limitation. Shenron and Porunga are not even insects compared to him.
  • Always Someone Better:
    • Beerus directly invokes this trope by bringing Monaka, the fighter he claims that gave him a better fight than Goku, to the first Universal Tournament. Turns out not to be true. Monaka is actually not very strong and Beerus told this lie to motivate Goku and Vegeta.
    • Hit becomes this to Vegeta since he hands the Saiyan Prince a crushing defeat after he takes out most of the U6 team. Goku and Hit fights to a stand-still until Goku throws the match.
  • Anticlimax:
    • Botamo to Goku. While Botamo' Stone Wall ability makes him a tough opponent to beat in a straight fight since he can literally absorb damage and redirect it into another dimensions, in the tournament he is easily beaten by Goku once he realizes that he can just drag Botamo out of the ring with no trouble. Goku theorizes that he has become so dependent on his ability that he's been neglecting his training.
    • Frost to Vegeta during their fight. Frost talks for several minutes about he he uses poison to get ahead and even have the rules change to allow death. Not even a second into the match, Vegeta takes him out in one punch.
    • Vegeta turns out to be this to Hit. Despite taking down three of U6's top fighters, Hit defeats Vegeta effortlessly without taking a single blow.
    • How the first Universal Tournament ends. Goku throws his match against Hit after Beerus and Champa spend too much time arguing when he asks for the rules to be changed and his Kaioken is about to break. He also didn't like being called a pawn by a couple of gods. Hit returns the favor and throws his match against Monaka by pretending that Monaka's weak punch caused him to fly out of the ring.
  • Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better: Champa is obsessed with proving himself better to Beerus. So much so that he organized a tournament just to prove his point (Well that and Beerus and he can't exactly fight each other or they'll destroy the universes).
  • Arch-Enemy: Champa and Beerus view each other as this, although in a somewhat friendly way since any real fighting between them can destroy their universes. Beerus also does care for his brother since he restores U6's Earth and advance the civilization to U7's Earth's standards so Champa can eat the food there.
  • Artistic License – Space: When the Super Dragon Balls are activated, the view pulls out to show the surrounding space; there are a number of asteroids and fully developed planets in small clusters, with no suns to orbit, kind of like a level from Super Mario Galaxy.
  • Asshole Victim: Hit is a legendary assassin who is so feared that Frost is terrified when he sees him. This is the same person who threw spades at two Gods of Destruction. Without even trying, he knocks Frost out and the next time we see Frost, he's moping in his seat. Given that Frost is revealed to be a Bitch in Sheep's Clothing who indirectly murdered millions if not billions of people in the wars he starts, just so he can buy and sell the planets he ruins, and he was trying to steal the prize treasure from the other fighters from U6 and takes Champa's space cube, what Hit gives him is extremely merciful.
  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: Subverted with Beerus and Champa. Although they are both gods, their caretakers Whis and Vados are way stronger than them.
  • Rank Scales with Asskicking: The King of All, Zen'o is the ruler of the entire multiverse. He can also destroy all the universes in an instant, putting him way above Beerus and Champa, and maybe even Whis and Vados.
  • Awesome, but Impractical: Goku's Super Saiyan Blue Kaioken is powerful enough to impress Whis and Vados and make Beerus briefly go Oh, Crap!, but it is also an unfinished technique that Goku is still working on. Disregarding the fact that it's a potentially Deadly Upgrade that takes some time to charge, Goku can only keep it up for a short period of time. This is because it's Goku's Godzilla Threshold.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Goku learns to counter Hit's Time-Leaping ability by correctly predicting Hit's movements for the next 0.1 seconds. He did this by letting Hit pound him for several minutes.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: Beerus's wish to Super Shenron is for Universe 6's Earth to be restored- complete with its food, so that Champa can finally have Earthling food. Even Champa's at a loss and has a very brief moment of vulnerability after Vados brings it up. Beerus shrugs it off with an "I just did it so he owes me a favor" excuse once Whis remarks that it's "kind of him."
Vados: Perhaps... Beerus-sama used the Super Dragon Balls to do this for you?
Champa: Wha—?! *Super Dragon Ball flies past them, uplifting music plays* That cheeky bastard... He really pisses me off.
  • Badass Crew: A requirement to be on the U6 and U7 teams. Each character is a badass in their own right.
  • Badass Family:
    • Beerus' family is probably the most badass in the series. His twin brother Champa and he are gods of Universes 6 and 7 respectively.
    • Whis and Vados are also siblings and they are stronger than Beerus and Champa, making them the strongest beings in both universes.
  • Beam-O-War:
    • Vegeta and Magetta get into a type of beam-o-war. In this case, Magetta is using magma instead of an energy beam. Magetta wins the first two and Vegeta wins the third using his Final Flash.
    • Vegeta and Cabba gets into one, with both of them using the Garlick Gun. It ends in a tie.
    • Hit and Goku gets into one during their match. Goku completely overwhelms Hit since he's using Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan/Kaioken combo with a Kamehameha.
  • Beat Them at Their Own Game
    • The entire reason Cabba was chosen to take part in the tournament. Champa saw that Beerus had Goku and Vegeta, so he went to find some powerful Saiyans of his own.
    • Hit manages to do this against Goku. Part of what makes the Saiyans so powerful, especially Goku, is their ability to adapt and grow stronger as they fight. Hit proves that he too can improve in the middle of a fight by increasing his time freezing power from 0.1 to 0.5, coming close to defeating Goku right there. He almost beat Goku again after he improves his Time-Leaping so much that he can stop Goku even when he's using the Super Saiyan Blue Kaioken.
  • Berserk Button:
    • Champa hates being called fat and Beerus hates being called skinny. He also despises anyone who embarrasses him and his universe. He was going to kill Frost when he learned what an evil bastard he was and was going to wiped out the entire U6 team for losing the tournament.
    • Calling Bulma old is a going to get you hit even if you're the God of Destruction. Unfortunately for Jaco, he doesn't know when to shut up.
  • The Bet: The basis of the tournament. If Beerus's fighters win, Beerus can use the Super Dragon Balls how he sees fit. If Champa's fighters win, Champa will use the Super Dragon Balls to switch his lifeless Earth for the thriving Earth of Universe 7.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: Champa is just as silly if not sillier than his twin brother, especially when it comes to him overeating. He is also just as strong as Beerus and is almost just as petty. He was going to kill his entire team for losing the tournament until Zen'o shows up.
  • Beyond the Impossible: It was originally believed to be impossible to combine Super Saiyan and with the Kaioken since the Kaioken puts a lot of stress on the body and a regular Super Saiyan is stressful enough.note  Goku not only makes the combination work here, he did it with Super Saiyan Blue. Said form is so powerful and fast it goes beyond the impossible again by allowing Goku to outpace Hit while Hit has time froze.
  • Big Bad: Champa is the one who organized the Universe 6 vs. Universe 7 tournament in an attempt to obtain Universe 7's Earth for its food.
  • Big Eater: Champa can pack away the food, although unlike most examples he can't keep his figure, something that Beerus and Vados mock him about.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Frost. He seems well-mannered and is revealed to be a highly praised peace-keeper in his universe who even entered under the pretense if he wins, Champa will help fund his campaign. However Jaco reveals he cheated in his matches to which Frost reveals he's really nothing more then a space pirate and intentionally started wars just to stop them so he could earn money and praises from the people he "saved".
  • Bizarre Alien Biology: At least one of the Galactic King's many tentacles serves as a genital, though they are indistinguishable (this is true of real-world octopuses as well). Goku has the misfortune of grabbing that particular tentacle when he shakes the Galactic King's 'hand' in gratitude for telling him about Hit's ability.
  • Blatant Lies:
    • Frost trying to fool Goku into thinking that his third form is his final transformation. Goku is confused since he's never seen Frieza's third form before, and Piccolo, Krillin, and Vegeta scoffs at Frost's attempt at deception.
    • Champa telling Beerus that the new secondary barrier is for everyone's protection after Piccolo and Frost managed to break it. He actually wants the new barrier to give Magetta the advantage.
  • Blood Knight: Although the Saiyans in U6 are not Space Pirates like their U7 counterparts, they are still consider a warrior race who love to fight. They just use their power to protect people from evil instead of terrorizing them, much like Goku.
  • Break the Haughty: After winning three matches in a row against U6's team, Vegeta gets destroyed by Hit without landing a single blow. He's extremely upset and becomes madder when he sees Goku performing better against Hit in his base form. He really gets upset when he sees that Goku can now combine Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan form with the Kaioken, utterly surpassing him once again after he worked so hard just to be Goku's statistical equal.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: Champa is just as strong as Beerus and he's even lazier than him. He won't even destroy his own planets, leaving it to Vados.
  • Broken Pedestal: Cabba is surprised and heartbroken when he learns that Frost was Evil All Along, and used him and the other Saiyans to do his dirty work.
  • Butt-Monkey:
    • Jaco is basically Bulma's butt monkey, often taking physical hits from her and threatened to have Vegeta sought on him.
    • Champa gets the least respect for a God of Destruction. He's belittled by his brother and even his own attendant who constantly trolls him by twisting his words.
  • Call-Forward: What Vegeta did to Cabba during their fight is almost a mirror of what Goku will do to Uub when they finally meet. They both act like Jerkasses to unleash their opponent's hidden power and wants said opponent to surpass them one day.
  • Cats Are Superior: Being Beerus' twin and equal, Champa also falls into this. He is also weaker than Whis and Vados.
  • Cheated Angle: When Bulma gets Zuno to tell her everything there is to know about the Super Dragon Balls, he offhandedly mentions that the way the stars inside the Dragon Balls always seem to face the camera in the same configuration no matter what is an explicitly in-universe property of them.
  • Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: Just like Whis, it is Vados' job to keep Champa in line. However, she is even looser than Whis and lets Champa do whatever he wants except for fighting Beerus.
  • Combat Pragmatist:
    • During the tournament against Universe 6, Goku is pitted against Botama, a giant yellow bear who is impervious to his attacks. Rather than power up in an attempt to break through his guard, Goku just grabs him by the legs and drags him before tossing him out of the ring, earning a win.
    • Frost beats Goku by taking advantage of Goku's sudden fatigue and kicks him out of the ring. Turns out, he has a poison needle embedded into his arm. He uses the same trick to beat Piccolo. When he fights Vegeta, he brags about how he can uses his poison to both paralyze and kill his opponents.
    • Since Magetta is immune to all of Vegeta's attacks, Vegeta makes him lose by ring out by destroying a section of the ring.
  • Consummate Liar: No one saw Frost's nature except Vados because she picked him to be on Champa's team. Even Piccolo, who is usually very good a picking up evil energy, sensed nothing form him. He only got exposed because Jaco caught him cheating.
  • Consummate Professional: Hit gives off this air. He's a legendary and feared hitman, but is stoic and completely serious, and mostly acts like the only reason he's present is to get his reward and otherwise isn't interested in the situation. And even when he curbstomps Frost, he only did so to keep him from stealing his prize and doesn't even kill him, even though he very easily could have, rather than doing it to be a sadist. The only time he showed any interest in the tournament is when Vegeta transforms into a Super Saiyan Blue and then stares at Goku. Even then, he takes down Vegeta quickly and effectively, aiming all his attacks for his vital areas and suggesting Vegeta gives up before he gets killed.
  • Cosmic Entity: The Eternal Dragon of the Super Dragon Balls is far in a way stronger than all the other dragons. He restores the long dead U6's Earth along with all its people with a single wish. He is also bigger than a galaxy.
  • Convection, Schmonvection: Thanks to the secondary barrier surrounding the arena, Magetta's lava attacks increase the ambient heat enough that even Vegeta begins to feel it. Magetta is, naturally, immune to his own heat since he literally eats lava.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Despite being overwhelmingly powerful Frost has a poison needle in his arm and injects his opponents whenever he's at a disadvantage.
  • Cruel to Be Kind: To push Cabba to his Rage Breaking Point Vegeta briefly becomes his old Space Pirate self and threatens to destroy Cabba's entire planet and kill his family once he kills him. This pushes Cabba over the edges and he ascends to Super Saiyan.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: While a good fighter in his own right, Botamo's strategy mainly relies on using his invulnerability to wear down opponents until they're too weak to fight back or to push them out of the ring. In a tournament match against Goku, Goku realizes he doesn't have to beat him, just throw him out of the ring, something Botamo can't prevent because Goku is far stronger and he has become too reliant on his usual body, something Goku's notes.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass:
    • Champa maybe fat and more boorish than Beerus, but he is still a God of Destruction and Beerus' equal.
    • Monaka is this according to Beerus. When he get serious, he will destroy anyone regardless if they're friend or foe. When he's calm, he comes off as a complete wimp. Whis reveals that Monaka is an amateur fighter who Beerus plays up as the best to give motivation to Goku and Vegeta.
  • Curbstomp Battle:
    • Despite Botamo's unique ability that makes him almost impossible to damage, Goku beats him by dragging him towards the edge of the ring and flipping him to a ring-out. Goku did all this without bothering to transform.
    • Frost is stronger than Frieza and his third form is more powerful than Goku's base form. Since Frost lacks an ultimate transformation, however, he gets beating to the point that he can barely stand by Super Saiyan Goku. Frost still wins his match since Goku suddenly became fatigue and he gets kicks out of the ring. It turns out that Frost poisoned him.
    • Frost vs Vegeta is similarly one-sided. Even after he's allowed to use a weapon, Frost goes down in one hit. For added humiliation, when he tries to sneak off later, Hit catches him and takes him out with one move.
    • Vegeta does it again against his Universe 6 Saiyan counterpart, Cabba. Though evenly matched in their base forms, Vegeta is able to trounce Cabba after his first transformation, as Cabba can't become a Super Saiyan. After teaching Cabba to transform, they're evenly matched again, until Vegeta goes Blue and knocks him out with one punch.
    • Vegeta is on the receiving end against Hit, thanks to the latter's time stop ability.
  • Damn You, Muscle Memory!: Goku's initial strategy against Hit was exploiting this. After getting a feel for Hit's fighting style, Goku begins to anticipate and block any attacks. When Hit says he will simply adjust his tactics, Goku says it's not so easy to go against normal movements during split-second reactions. Hit then throws him a curve ball by improving his time skip technique.
  • Dangerous Forbidden Technique: Goku's Super Saiyan Blue/Kaioken combo. Goku says that just activating it has only a 10% success rate as-of-now, and can possibly kill him if he fails. After that, the power-up has a short duration, although it lasts longer than a normal Kaioken, and Goku's muscles look like they're about to explode from the stress when he finally turns it off.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Hit maybe a coldhearted assassin who wears dark clothing, but he has a strong sense of honor and only seems to kill when he's contracted to.
  • Deadly Upgrade: Goku's Super Saiyan Blue Kaioken provides him with nigh-unmatched pure power, but it only has a 10 % chance of working, with the other 90% spelling severe injuries or even death. Because of this Goku actually needs time to charge up and concentrate before performing the technique.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Vados is even more sarcastic than Whis, often making fun of Champa's weight and even teases him about being weaker than Beerus because of his girth.
  • Death Glare:
    • Beerus and Champa's default expressons to each other.
    • Vegeta has nothing but death glares towards Frost during their brief battle.
    • Both Goku and Hit give Champa this when he calls all the tournament fighters pawns to the gods. It's so intense that it causes Champa to straggle back.
  • Didn't See That Coming:
    • Botamo never considered that someone could drag and throw him out of the ring.
    • Universe 6 is rather shocked by the ridiculous strength of Universe 7's fighters. Their Saiyans don't even know what a Super Saiyan is, much less have several of them with multiple forms.
    • Goku had his fight against Frost in the bag until he suddenly got sleepy and kicked out of the ring. Everyone is shocked.
    • Everyone is shocked and disgusted when they learned Frost is just as bad as Frieza. Even Champa is upset and wants to kill Frost.
    • Beerus and Whis are surprise that Champa manages to get a Time Master like Hit on their team. Whis even notes that he didn't know anyone outside of him could manipulate time.
    • Goku got a nasty surprise when he finds out that Hit manages to improve his time stopping ability in the middle of their fight.
    • Goku throwing his fight against Hit catches everyone by surprise. Beerus gets another shock when Monaka actually wins against Hit (because Hit also throws his match).
  • Didn't Think This Through: Beerus brought Monaka because he claims that he is the best fighter he had ever met outside of Whis and he gave him a much better fight than Super Saiyan God Goku. When in truth, Monaka is weak, at least compared to Goku and Vegeta, and Beerus only said those things to motivate Goku and Vegeta. He has no intentions of letting Monaka fight at the tournament, which is why he makes Monaka go last no matter what. This comes back to bite him in the butt since he underestimates Champa's team, specifically Hit, and Goku is the last real fighter after Vegeta goes down. He was also handicap early by Buu failing his exam, so he only had three able fighters from the start. Even more, he makes Goku, Vegeta, and Piccolo decide the order in which they fight by doing rock-paper-scissor instead of ordering weakest to strongest. This is why Goku is the first to fight in the tournament, Piccolo, the weakest on team, is in the middle, with Vegeta being last. Given what happened when Vegeta fought Hit, Beerus would have been completely screwed if Goku wasn't allowed back into the tournament since Frost cheated. Or, Goku could have been knocked out fairly by one of the other fighters and even if he did make it to Hit, he would have been weaker since he had to fight through the entire Universe 6's team. Whis mercilessly lampshades this.
  • Discontinuity Nod: In Episode 32 it is reveal that the Supreme Kai and Kibito defused using the Namekian Dragon Balls, contradicting GT where they remained fused.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Champa is willing to kill his entire team for losing the tournament, calling them a disgrace and an embarrassment to his universe.
  • Divine Intervention: Zen'o, the King of Everything, unknowingly pulls this by arriving to the tournament. If he didn't come, Champa would have murdered his entire team.
  • Do Not Go Gentle: When Champa's about to demonstrate what a Sore Loser he is, Hit stands up ready to defend himself rather than succumb to despair (like the rest of the team).
  • The Dragon: Played With with Vados. She is Champa's servant and is Whis' equal in power, but she allows Champa to do whatever he likes and even helps him like destroying planets on his order. However, she does choose what orders she want to follow.
  • The Dreaded:
    • Hit from U6 is known as a legendarily, powerful hitman in his universe. Frost is completely terrified when Hit catches him trying to steal the reward treasures and the cube spaceship. The same Frost who acted like a Smug Snake in front of two Gods of Destruction and Reality Warpers. Goku and Vegeta are also weary of him, and are saving their full powerful specifically to fight him. Hit was also personally chosen by Champa, who is confidence can win the entire tournament for him.
    • Monaka terrifies Beerus. Although Monaka appears very weak and fragile to the point that he mentally faints seeing Goku's Kamehameha, Beerus sees him as their trump card and must go last, no matter what. According to Beerus, Monaka can't tell friend from foe when he's mediating and once destroyed a planet. Turns out that it's all one big lie. Monaka is not strong at all and Beerus is terrified of anyone finding this out.
    • Zen'o is called the King of Everything and his very presence freaks both Beerus and Champa. As the ruler of the multiverse, he has the power to destroy all the universe in an instant according to Beerus.
  • Dude, Where's My Respect?: The Galactic King complains to Jaco about the Earthlings' lack of respect. Jaco politely points out that these people are friends with the gods of the universe.
  • Dumbass Has a Point: Goku points out after throwing his match with Hit that his Super Saiyan Blue/Kaioken combo would've expired while Beerus and Champa were wasting their time arguing.
  • The Emperor: Frost is said to be the emperor of the 6th universe.
  • Everyone Has Standards: When Champa hears Frost's story about him fighting to gain his support so he can support children of war-torn planets, he's saddened to hear that if Frost loses he doesn't get his support. Then when he learns that Frost is an evil planet broker like Frieza who starts wars so he can buy planets on the cheap, he is pissed. He wants to kill Frost and only relents because Vegeta wants to fight him. He also yells at Vados for bring such a Jerkass on his team. Although he offers his support to Frost if he wins against the remaining fighters from U7, it clear that he isn't rooting for him since he didn't care when Vegeta knocks Frost out with one punch. He's also upset when he finds out that Vados offered Hit the universe jumping travel cube if he won the tournament, even seeming unnerved by the idea of a legendary hitman and murderer possessing that. While he doesn't call off the deal due to Hit being the sole remaining member of his team and last chance to win, he's at least got the standards not to overlook the consequences of that action.
  • Evil All Along: Frost pretends to be a hero, but is actually just as bad as Frieza. He's even a planet broker just like his U7 counterpart.
  • Evil Counterpart: In a strange way Frost is an evil Mr. Satan. They're both Glory Hounds who are Fake Ultimate Heroes who uses their fame to support their causes. Mr. Satan, although somewhat selfish, does have his heart in the right place and won't sacrifice others for his own benefit. He can also act brave when pressed and becomes a true hero in the process. Frost is an evil bastard who starts wars so he can play hero, buy the planet he ruins, put it back together, and then sells it at a high price. There is nothing heroic about Frost at all.
  • Evil Overlord: Although most believe that Frost is a Good Counterpart to Frieza, he actually turns out to be this. He just hides his evil nature unlike Frieza.
  • Evil Is Petty: Champa is almost as bad. He is willing to murder his entire team just for losing a tournament.
  • Exact Words: When Champa yells at Vados for recruiting Frost, after finding out that he's a planet broker, she responds that he told her to find the strongest fighters in the universe. Not the strongest moral fighters. The same applies to recruit Hit by offering the legendary hitman the ability to jump universes. Her response to Champa yelling at her for that is to remind him he told her to do whatever it takes to get a strong team.
  • Excuse Plot: Beerus fully admits that the Universe Tournament is this for Champa and him. They just want an excuse to fight each other, since they can't do it directly without endangering their universes, and they don't care about who gains control of the Super Dragon Balls.
  • Fake Ultimate Hero: Frost turns out to be this. All the stories about him going to planets to save people from evildoers are one big lie. He starts the wars that he fixes then buys the planet on the cheap before selling it. There is literally nothing heroic about him.
  • Fearful Symmetry: Beerus and Champa are so similar that any combat between them results in a complete stalemate. Exaggerated when they try to decide on a tournament rule with rock-paper-scissors and have hundreds of draws at high speed without either getting the upper hand. This continues a Running Gag throughout the series of indecisive rock-paper-scissors matches.
  • Fartillery: Magetta's farts are incredibly explosive. He's aware of this and weaponizes it, triggering an explosion that nearly ring outs Vegeta.
  • Fictionary: Similar to Porunga who only grant wishes when spoken in Namekian, Super Shenron only grant wishes in the "language of the gods" (which is Japanese spoken backwards), so the only beings that can ask wishes of him are other gods. Unlike Porunga who can speak the universal language, Super Shenron only talks in the language of the gods.
  • Foil: Hit is in many ways Goku's counterpart. Both are the top fighters in their respective universes, both relish the opportunity to face a strong opponent and both are adept at improving or reinventing their abilities on the fly to address a strong opponent. Personality-wise, they're very different, but there's a perfect match for the finale of a Tournament Arc.
  • Foreshadowing: After his match with Hit, there are a couple instances of Goku suffering brief muscle spasms. He doesn't think much of it, but these are actually the first instances of the Delayed Onset Ki Disorder that he will be struggling with in the Copy Vegeta Arc.
  • Forgot About His Powers:
    • Averted with Piccolo who the animator staff seems to remember most of his powerset like him being able to stretch his limbs, his multiform technique used in anime filler, charging up the Special Beam Cannon to take down opponents many times stronger than him, and even his antenna beams that haven't been seen since the 23rd Martial Arts Tournament.
    • Averted again with the reveal that Goku can combine the Kaioken with a form a Super Saiyan, specifically Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan. The reason he never did it in the past is that Kaioken is extremely hard on the body and just becoming a normal Super Saiyan is stressful enough. Combining Kaioken with Super Saiyan would have been outright suicide. However, since Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan is achieved using a mix of a calm mind and great energy control, it makes it possible for the combination work. At the same time, it's highly dangerous. Because it is an incomplete technique, it has a 10% success rate and failure could end in death. Which is why Goku chooses not to use it until he masters it or pushed into a corner.
  • For Want Of A Nail: The 6th Universe shows what might have happened to the Saiyan race if they never met Frieza and gave into their bloodlust: instead of being planet brokers, they're noble heroes for hire, and have evolved past the point of needing their tails (and with it, Great Apes).
  • Fragile Speedster: Cabba very fast and can pack a punch that can knock Vegeta back, but tires easily and seemed to have a hard time against Vegeta's more brutish fighting style. One gut-punch from a Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta knocks him out entirely.
  • Freak Out:
    • Beerus has a minor one after Goku sucker punches Monaka in the face. He is also not happy that Goku is there last real fighter since Monaka isn't very strong and is closed to panicking about losing the tournament.
    • Both Beerus and Champa have major freak outs when they see Zen'o, the King of Everything.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: With The Reveal in Episode 34 that Frost is Evil All Along, he's become this to his Universe 6 teammates. He's become a Broken Pedestal to Cabba, what with the two having fought together in one of his many wars and Cabba being a genuine hero. Champa considered Frost's actions and true character shameful and wanted to destroy him for this until Vados reminded Champa of the imperative of beating Beerus for the Super Dragon Balls.
  • Friend to All Children: Frost is mentioned to take care of children left behind in the wake of his peace-keeping efforts. When Goku starts beating him, he says he can't stop fighting because he has to be an example for the children, which is all BS. Frost doesn't care about children and in fact, starts the conflicts that leave many of them homeless and parentless.
  • Fridge Logic: In-Universe, Bulma questions why Champa would bother using the Super Dragon Balls to move the entire Earth to his universe because he loves the food when he could simply ask the all-powerful dragon for all the tasty foods in the universe. Beerus tells Bulma that neither Champa nor he is interested in the Super Dragon Balls and this is all just an excuse for them to fight.
  • Full-Potential Upgrade: Turns out this is the real reason Goku hasn't used the Kaioken while in Super Saiyan is because of the strain it will put on his body and he can't easily control it. However, his new Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan is much less stressful on him and easier to control once mastered since it requires perfect energy control and a calm mind to use. This allows Goku to use the Kaioken while in that form up to X10. It's not perfect, however. It only has a 10% success rate since Goku is still working on it.
  • Genius Bruiser: Magetta doesn't look it, but he's very aware of his species' abilities and is adept at using them to give himself the advantage. The mastery of his species' unique abilities almost wins him the fight against Vegeta.
  • Gentle Giant: Magetta is a mighty, metal living volcano with the grits to take an enraged Vegeta head-on with no fear...but hurt his feelings, and he won't take it very well.
  • Geo Effects: Magetta can create his own environment by superheating the battlefield to volcano temperatures. Since he literally eats magma, the heat does not affect him, but it quickly becomes unbearable to his opponent. Vegeta is left panting and tired after only a few seconds of exposer to the heat. It also helps that Vados created a secondary barrier to hold in the heat and restrain Vegeta's flight.
  • Glory Hound: Frost is also one given that he uses his influence to start conflicts and then fixes them so he can build a reputation as a universal savior to hide his planet broker business.
  • Godzilla Threshold:
    • Frost in regards to his final form. Unlike Frieza who used his final form that deliberately killed all his minions, Frost didn't even want to use the form since he accidentally killed a villain, but obliges to keep up with Super Saiyan Goku. The accidentally killing an evildoer story is most likely a lie and his true Godzilla Threshold is using his poison needle to disable his opponents.
    • During the tournament, both Vegeta and Goku view using their god powers as this since they're saving it for Hit, which is why they're willing to struggle with opponents that they can easily defeat if they use their full power. [It is later revealed that Goku's true Godzilla Threshold is using the Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan with Kaioken combination since it has a 90% failure rate and can seriously harm or kill him. He is still improving it and was saving it for Beerus, but Hit forces his hand.
  • Good Counterpart: When introducing himself to Goku and Vegeta, Cabba reveals while the people in his race are Blood Knight mercenaries, their job is to fight evil, and still have their home planet Salada, whereas Vegeta mentioned Universe 7's Sadal’s been destroyed due to infighting.
  • Graceful Loser: Cabba is extremely gracious after losing to Vegeta, mostly because he's happy to become a Super Saiyan and earn Vegeta's respect.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Champa has a temper equal to his brother and is willing to fight Beerus even though he knows they can destroy the 6 and 7 Universes.
  • Handicapped Badass: Magetta can't fly, which has become a standard technique in Z. It doesn't stop him from giving Vegeta a hard time, especially since Vados put up a secondary barrier to limit the movements of anyone who can fly. He is, without a doubt, the most powerful flightless character introduced in the franchise.
  • Hidden in Plain Sight: Even using the super dragon radar, Bulma can't find the final Super Dragon Ball. It turns out to be the very planet where the tournament was taking place.
  • Hidden Heart of Gold: Despite his intense rivalry with his brother, Beerus wishes for U6's Earth to be restored and advance so it's up to par with U7's Earth so Champa can eat the food there. Although Champa is touched by the gesture, he's still somewhat annoyed that Beerus did something for him.
  • Holding Back the Phlebotinum:
    • Frost tries to hold back against Goku, trying to hide his transformations and save his power for the other fights. When Goku calls him out on this, he transforms to his second to the last form, confusing Goku since he never saw it before. In exchange, Goku turns into a regular Super Saiyan instead of using his god power. After fighting for a while longer Frost is forced to go into his true form.
    • Goku chooses to fight Frost as a normal Super Saiyan, seeing it as more than enough. Beerus gets on Goku about this when he loses, saying if he used his god powers he would have crushed Frost easily. In fairness, a regularly Super Saiyan was more than enough for Frost. However, Frost cheated by poisoning him.
    • Like Goku, Vegeta holds back from becoming a Super Saiyan until Magetta forces his hand. When Goku points out that Vegeta would have won sooner against Magetta if he used his full power from the start, Vegeta just glances at Hit. Goku then reveals that they're both saving themselves for him. Because of wanting to hide their true power from Hit, neither uses Super Saiyan Blue even when it would make their matches a lot easier until Vegeta finally shows it unnecessarily to Cabba to inspire him. By this point, however, Hit is the next and final opponent and Vegeta doesn't lose much by briefly showing what he can do.
    • When Hit asks Goku why he isn't transforming, Goku tells him that transforming takes a lot of stamina and he's saving it until he finds a counter to Hit's time-stopping ability.
  • Home Field Advantage: One of Magetta's abilities is to superheat the environment around him. Since he eats and is filled with molten lava this does not affect him, but fatigues and weakens his opponents. This has an impact on Vegeta, who is trapped in a cubic force field that holds all the heat in, practically boiling him alive. This is why Champa and Vados created the secondary field, along with restraining Vegeta's flight movements since Magetta can't fly.
  • Honor Before Reason:
    • Frost could have been disqualified after cheating in his fight against Piccolo, allowing Piccolo to move on, but Vegeta and Piccolo agreed for Piccolo to accept the loss so that Vegeta could fight and defeat him officially. Beerus even backs them up on this, though it puts their team at a technical disadvantage. Turns out for the best since Goku gets back into the tournament after Beerus finds the poison wound on his palm, and Piccolo would have been completely outmatched against Magetta and would have most likely lost. After that, the tournament is an even 3 vs 3.
    • Vegeta helping Cabba learn to become a Super Saiyan]]. Going out of one's way to make an opponent stronger is not a good combat strategy, although it might endear him to the Universe 6 Saiyans in the long run. He still has a massive advantage with his Blue transformation, but using that in this match tipped Hit off to his true power level, which both he and Goku were trying to avoid doing. Both Beerus and Champa call him stupid for doing this.
    • Hit could have finished Goku after he increases his Time-Leaping power from 0.1 to 0.2 seconds, taking Goku off-guard. He chooses not to, even with Champa yelling at him, since he owes Goku for pushing him to improve for the first time in his life. Later as Goku reveals a newfound technique that can turn the tables, rather than listening to Champa to stop him before he can do so, he instead lets Goku go through with it. He also chose to fight Goku head-on instead of waiting out the Kaioken.
    • Goku asks that the no-killing rule be lifted from the tournament so Hit can fight without restraint. Since Hit is an assassin he has been holding back throughout the match.
  • Hope Spot: It seems Piccolo has Frost defeated after he wraps him in his arm and has his Special Beam Cannon fully charged. Then Frost poisons him, causing him the fight.
  • Humiliation Conga: This is Frost's fate after he is caught cheating. He loses his match against Vegeta in one punch and he is knocked out by Hit when he tries to steal the prized treasure and the cube ship.
  • Humongous Mecha: Magetta may look like a robot, but he's actually from a race known as the Metal Men.
  • Hypocrite:
    • Champa calls Beerus out for being rude to his house guests, despite him about to literally blow Beerus' door open.
    • Jaco repeatedly poking fun at Bulma's age someone he knew since she was five.
  • Hypocritical Humor: During the round between Goku and Frost and after hearing the latter's backstory. Krillin admits he doesn't know who to root for to Bulma before eventually siding on his friend's side. However, near the end of the fight, Bulma is the one that cheers on Frost. When Goku loses, Bulma accuses Krillin of being responsible for not cheering for Goku sooner.
  • I Am Not Left-Handed:
    • Goku and Vegeta are holding back their god forms until the final match against Hit.
    • Hit has been holding back throughout the entire tournament. Since he is an assassin, he can't fight at his best since there is a rule against killing. Goku tries to have this rule lifted so he can fight Hit all out.
  • Insignificant Little Blue Planet: For once in the series Subverted. The tournament between Universes 6 and 7 is happening because Champa wants Earth, so he can eat all the food. He is even willing to lose the Super Dragon Balls he has been searching for all this time.
  • Ironic Echo: When Piccolo has Frost at a disadvantage during the U6/U7 tournament, he confidently says that he was able to win because Frost didn't know his fighting style. After poisoning him with the needle hidden in his arm, Frost says the same back to Piccolo.
  • Irony: Beerus is the God of Destruction who tried to destroy the Earth when he first goes there. At the end of the Champa Saga, he uses his one wish from the Super Dragon Balls to revived U6's Earth for seemingly no personal benefit.
  • Jerkass: Frost turns out to be one. He start wars that he stops with his army, buys the broken planet on the cheap, and then sells it at a high price.
  • Jerkass God: Champa almost as bad as Beerus given that he destroyed a number of planets while searching for the Super Dragon Balls. He is also ruder to Vados than Beerus is to Whis. At the same time, he downplays this aspect of his personality since he acts polite to Goku and Vegeta, even given them the eggs he brought for Beerus. He also took no offense to Goku calling him fat Beerus. However, he reveals what a Sore Loser he is when he's about to kill his entire team for losing the tournament. He is only stopped by Zen'o's arrival.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: After Goku's loss, Beerus yells at him that he'd have won if he fought all-out to begin with. Although neither knew about Frost's poison needle at the time, it's probably true that if it had been Goku's priority, he could have taken out Frost quickly and easily. Instead, he wanted to test his opponent's ability.
  • Joke Character: Monaka isn't as strong as Beerus' claim, and he's only there just as a way to motivate Goku and Vegeta to grow stronger and win the tournament. He still ends up winning U7 the tournament since Hit chose to throw his match against him as a way to repay Goku who willingly forfeited his match since he got tired of Beerus and Champa's bickering.
  • The Juggernaut: Magetta is Nigh-Invulnerable and strong enough to fight people with god powers. However, the real reason he's this trope is because of his special ability: the longer he fights and the angrier he gets, the more powerful he becomes. Once he gets going, he can be hard to stop, as Vegeta finds out. In the end, even as a Super Saiyan, Vegeta can't actually do anything more than stun him for a few moments and has to ring him out.
  • Kick the Dog:
    • Frost brags about how he starts wars and sells planet to Cabba, who is shocked that he cheated during the tournament.
    • Both Champa and Beerus kick the dog when Champa called all the fighters at the tournament pawns and Beerus mocks Goku when he wants to save the U6 team when Champa is ready to kill them, saying that it's Champa's universe and he can do whatever he wants, unless he wants to challenged a God of Destruction.
  • Killer Rabbit: Zen'o is a cute, almost child-like being with an equally cute voice…and is the single most powerful being and Top God of the Dragon Ball Multiverse to the point he could destroy the entire multiverse in an instant if he desired to.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Champa's complete disregard towards his fighters by calling them pawns causes Goku to become disappointed with the entire tournament and he throws his match against Hit. Then he throws his match against Monaka as a favor towards Goku, which causes U6 to lose the tournament.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: At first, Magetta is slow and clumsy to the point that Vegeta can easily dodged his attacks. He then gets serious, powers-up, and overwhelms Vegeta, forcing him to go Super Saiyan.
  • Lighter and Softer: The Champa Saga when compared to the Battle of Gods and Resurrection 'F' Saga. There is no primary villain and no high stakes since the Earth will only be moved to U6 if Goku's team losses and death is prohibited, for the most part, since it is a tournament. This was done on purpose by Toriyama who wanted a light arc after the intense stories of the previous sagas.
  • Loophole Abuse: The first multiverse tournament is rife with this, as Beerus and Champa both attempt to gain an advantage via Rules Lawyering.
    • Actually subverted the first time, as Frost claims the poison needle in his arm is part of his body, but the referee doesn't buy it.
    • Vegeta is saved from a ring-out because he landed on a piece of debris from the stage and not the ground. This is an independent example, as the referee makes this decision without goading from either side.
    • Vegeta realizes that Champa and Vados put a smaller second barrier around the stage in order to give Magetta a Home Field Advantage, as he can fill it up with superheated steam and weaken his opponent, with a rule that touching the barrier is considered out-of-bounds. Vegeta clarifies that this rule doesn't take effect if he doesn't actually touch the barrier, and destroys it with his kiai.
  • MacGuffin: The Super Dragon Balls, planet-sized Dragon Balls scattered across both the sixth and seventh universes. Unlike Namekian-made Dragon Balls, which have limitations based on the one that made them, these were forged by the Dragon God and are said to have no limit to what wishes they can grant. Champa is collecting them for some reason. It is the prize Beerus wins if his team is victorious during the tournament.
  • Magma Man: Magetta is a living geothermal power plant fueled by magma. He can also use this for offense, nearly burning Vegeta alive.
  • Manchild: Champa is extremely childish. He holds petty contests against Beerus like who can bring the best food and is quite temperamental when he doesn't get his way. When Goku wins against his fighter during the first round of the first Universal Tournament, he literally has a temper tantrum, accusing Goku of cheating by hiding his strength and using an energy attack before rolling on the floor crying. All that being said, Champa hasn't shown to be a Psychopathic Manchild like his brother Beerus. He doesn't destroy planets for petty reasons (the ones he did destroys were during his search for the Super Dragon Balls), have nowhere near as many Berserk Buttons as Beerus, shows sympathy for others like him wanting to help Frost even if he didn't win at the tournament after hearing why he's fighting for him, and was somewhat polite to Goku and Vegeta when he meets them, while Beerus treated them like dirt (and still does to an extent).
  • Master Actor: Frost presents himself as a benevolent ruler who fights for the innocent, will only kill evildoers when no other choice is presented to him, refuses to use his true form out of fear of causing harm to others, is extremely polite and humble towards his opponent, and wants a clean match and, win or lose, nothing should be taken personally. According to the information presented at the tournament, he is fighting on Champa's team to get support for his charity work that helps children of war-torn planets. His story is so convincing that he gets Goku's own friends cheering for him and Champa feels bad for him since he has no real chance winning the entire tournament. Then it all turns out to be a big lie. Frost is a planet broker who start wars so he can buy and sell planets, and uses his good reputation to hide his crimes and gain powerful allies like the Saiyans. He also uses poison whenever he's about to lose, which is how he defeated Goku and Piccolo. When all this comes to light, Frost goes from polite and humble, to smug and boastful about how he played everyone.
  • Mechanical Lifeforms: Despite being robotic in nature, Magetta is a lifeform from an entire race of beings like him, though given he was chosen in particular it's likely his power is unique to him.
  • Mighty Glacier: Magetta can't fly, nor is he nimble, but he is incredibly heavy, extremely durable, and insanely strong. He easily takes hits from Vegeta.
  • Mirror Universe:
    • There are a total of 12 universes, which are paired up to equal 13.
    • Universe 6, the twin of the Universe 7 where the protagonists live, is this in several specific ways. Its Earth was destroyed by Earthlings waging war with one another while Universe 7 Earth has narrowly avoided/been wished back from destruction by non-Earthlings. Universe 6 Saiyans are a benevolent warrior race that protect others and hunt evildoers, while the war-like Universe 7 Saiyans were wiped out when Frieza became fearful of their power. Frost, Frieza's equivalent and Emperor of the Sixth Universe, is implied to be a benevolent ruler as Piccolo detected no evil at all from him and he fights fair while being a respectful Nice Guy to his opponents, (which, was all a lie on Frost's part). Champa leans slightly more towards the malevolent side than Beerus, but ironically is polite compared to him being rude, and is fat and shorter compared to his brother being tall and thin. Vados likewise is more cruel at times than Whis, and cares about eating healthy while Whis has a major Sweet Tooth. Ironically, Universe 6 being the Good Counterpart to Universe 7 works against them in the tournament, as without the constant fighting against world-ending opponents, their fighters on the whole seem to be weaker than those of Universe 7, at least compared to Goku and Vegeta (Super Saiyans don't exist there, for starters, at least until Vegeta teaches Cabba how to transform). Hit seems to be an exception, being exceptionally strong even by the standards of Universe 7.
  • Mistaken Identity: Goku and Vegeta initially mistake Frost for Frieza. They weren't too far off the mark.
  • Motivational Lie: Monaka isn't the strongest fighter Beerus ever fought. He is just an average fighter who was brought on the team to motivate Goku and Vegeta into training harder and fighting harder.
  • Mundane Solution: Goku's bout with Botamo ends in this fashion as after raw strength doesn't work due to Botamo tanking all of Goku's hits. Goku just simply knocks Botamo down, drags him to the edge of the ring then knocks him out of bounds.
  • Mr. Exposition:
    • It is Whis who explains to Goku and Vegeta about the 12 Universes, while Champa provides information on what the Super Dragon Balls are.
    • The Galactic King is the one who explains how Hit can seemingly disappear without his movements being detected by anyone. Hit is a Time Master who can freeze time for everyone but himself for about 0.1 seconds. Although it doesn't seems like much time, for someone with Super-Speed this gives them a major advantage.
  • The Multiverse: Anyone who's watched the Battle of the Gods movie should already be familiar with this fact, but the Super anime goes into this in more detail with Whis explaining that there are twelve parallel universes and a thirteenth one which holds all the others. On top of this, these universes are paired as well, which depend on whether their numerical designations add up to 13. Universe 7, which the series takes place in, is the "twin" of Universe 6 (which Champa and Vados oversee) because 6+7 = 13. There is also a 13th Universe that holds all the other universes.
  • Mundane Solution: Botamo's ability makes him immune to all of Goku's attacks, even the Kamehameha. Goku gets around his inability to hurt him by pushing him over, dragging him towards the end of the ring, and then flipping Botamo into a ring-out, shocking everyone.
  • Mythology Gag: At one point during their battle, Frost flies straight through Goku's Kamehameha, just like Cooler did in his debut movie.
  • Names to Run From Really Fast: Despite his childlike appearance, Omni-king Grand Zeno's very presence leaves Beerus and Champa shaking and humbled. As Beerus explains, Zeno is the ruler of all 12 universes making him the top god over the Kais and Gods of Destruction.
  • Negated Moment of Awesome:
    • The Frost vs. Piccolo fight. Piccolo is completely outmatched against Frost whose final form is stronger than Goku's base form, which is enhanced with god power. So, Piccolo has to bet everything on a fully charged Special Beam Cannon, something he hasn't done since the Raditz's fight. While he charges, he dodges Frost and uses his multiform to stay ahead. He then manages to grab Frost by stretching his arm around him, freezing him in place. He's ready to fire, which would take Frost out and prove that skill and strategy can defeat a superior opponent, only for Frost to poison Piccolo, leaving him open and causing his Special Beam Cannon to miss. He is then shortly defeated. On the bright side, we did at least see how powerful that Special Beam Cannon was. It pierced through Vados' barrier. Champa couldn't break it when he tested it.
    • Goku asks that the no-killing rule be lifted so he can fight Hit at his very best. Instead of getting an all out match against the strongest mortals in both universes, Beerus and Champa squabble about the rule change. Goku gets disappointed about this and throws his match, saying that he will fight Hit again someday.
    • Despite having been able to summon Super Shenron from a distance in space, in order to actually get the wish heard, you have to present it to the core of his being... because the dragon's true size dwarfs galaxies.
  • Never-Forgotten Skill: After not using the Kaioken for almost two decades in-universe, Goku reveals that he can combine his previous power-up technique with Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan and can take it up to Kaioken X10.
  • Next Tier Powerup: Subverted, as Goku's newest powerup is in fact a potentially deadly combination of two old powerups, one of which has been So Last Season for nearly two decades in-universe.
  • Nice Guy: By all accounts, Zen'o is a really nice guy who doesn't mind Goku acting informally towards him.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: When setting up the rules of the tournament, Vegeta suggests that all fighters must pass a simple written test to ensure that the participants are at least sentient. Unfortunately this backfires spectacularly when Buu gets every question wrong (including misspelling his own name) and is disqualified before even setting foot in the ring. It was a close thing to being even worse too, with Goku just barely passing, right on the 50% limit, at least in the manga. In the anime, Goku's score is never revealed although he did have some problems with a math question and Buu fell asleep during the test. Later on it's revealed that Monaka was actually very weak and simply there to motivate Goku and Vegeta, meaning that if not for Frost cheating, Hit would of won the tournament for his team, all because Vegeta's idea to have a test and Beerus not thinking through his plan by inviting Monaka as a Motivational Lie.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Frost cheating by poisoning Goku allowed him to be re-added to the team since his elimination was seen as unfair by the judge. Had Frost not done this, Goku may have lost to Magetta, or be severely weakened enough to where Hit would of easily defeated him since Goku would of had to face all of the Universe 6 team, Piccolo would of been no match for Hit for sure and debatedly Magetta, and Vegeta would have likely lost against Hit since he lacks the Kaioken to give him the extra . Since Monaka is not a strong fighter at all, this meant Frost was responsible for his team losing.
  • Nigh-Invulnerability:
    • Botamo's special ability: he can transfer any attack against him into another dimension, negating all the damage. Even Goku couldn't actually hurt him even with an energy attack and had to throw him out of the ring to win. Goku goes as far as lampshade that if this was a normal fight, he may have lost.
    • Magetta can tank blows from post-Resurrection 'F' Vegeta with no visual damage. He even goes one step farther and begins blitzing his own head in, just to show off how useless most attacks are going to be against him.
    • Hit's endurance is godlike since he's able to withstand attacks from Goku's Super Kaioken and still come out mostly unharmed.
    • A minor one. Bulma bribes Whis with food to keep Beerus for wanting to destroy the Earth. Champa wants the entire Earth moved to his universe since he likes the food so much.
  • Nightmare Fuel: In-Universe Bulma sees Beerus gaining access to the Super Dragon Balls to be this since, according to him, he would wish for the destruction of the universe.
  • No Badass to His Valet:
    • Champa is also a God of Destruction, but Vados regularly teases him about his weight and eating hobbies. She is also Whis' equal.
    • Played With. Bulma slaps Beerus for calling her an old auntie, much like she does with every powerful fighter in the series. However, she is fully aware that hitting Beerus is not a good idea given her fearful reaction when Beerus glares at her. Thankfully, Beerus decides to forgive her this time since she is the one who suggests using Shenron to track the last Super Dragon Ball.
  • "No More Holding Back" Speech: Hit gets one when he reveals that he never needed to improves himself before and that there is only one way for someone like him to become stronger since he can't transform like the Saiyans. He improves his time stopping power, more than doubling it, going from 0.1 to 0.5.
  • Noble Demon: Despite being an infamous assassin, Hit has a strict code of honor. He refuses to defeat Goku when he has the chance as a thank you to Goku for forcing him to improve his time-skipping technique. He also refuses to play keep away per Champa's order since he wants to face Goku's Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan/Kaioken combination head on since he sees Goku as a Worthy Opponent and he throws his match against Monaka since Goku did the same during their match.
  • No-Sell:
    • Botamo has the ability to no sell any attack, including Goku's Kamehameha.
    • Magetta takes all of Vegeta's attacks without taking any damage. Even a direct hit to the face from the Garlic Gun leaves him completely unfazed, and Final Flash just manages to push him to the edge of the stage. He only loses his match because Vegeta insults him, making him lose the will to fight, and because Vegeta destroys the piece of stage below him, causing him to fall to the floor for a ring out.
    • Goku gains the ability to negate Hit's time freezing power by combining Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan with the Kaioken. That is until Hit improves it again.
  • Not So Above It All:
    • Although Vados tries to act more refine than Whis, she adores the instant ramen noodles almost as much as Champa. She also says that she wants to see how the match between Hit and Goku will end without Hit trying to buy time for Goku's Kaioken to run out.
    • During the match once Goku starts getting the upper-hand, Hit starts screaming and clutching his arms presumably to power up until it's revealed that Hit can't power up like the Saiyans and simply improved the duration of his time leap to 0.2 seconds mid-fight. He was only screaming like that to imitate Goku......it seems Goku's eccentric ways has rubbed off on him. He even smiles, something that freaks out the Supreme Kai of U6.
  • Not So Stoic: Hit is a very stoic guy, being a Professional Killer and all. However, as he fights Goku he starts screaming while powering-up, mimicking Goku, and breaks into a smile since he is enjoying a match for the first time in his life.
  • Obsessed with Food: Champa is so food obsess that he wants to move the entire Earth to his universe using the Super Dragon Balls he searched so long to find.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Goku and Vegeta's reactions when they realize that Champa and Beerus are about to fight.
    • Everyone's reactions, including Bulma, after she slaps Beerus for calling her an auntie.
    • Shenron isn't please to see Beerus back on Earth.
    • Frost's face when he sees Hit when he's trying to steal the prize treasure and Champa's ship.
    • Piccolo's reaction when he learns that Monaka isn't as strong as Beerus made him out to be, making Goku their last real fighter.
    • Hit makes this face after Goku not only manages to counter his time freezing technique, but almost lands a solid punch on him. He also has a major one after Goku No Sells his Time-Leaping technique when using his Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan/Kaioken combo.
    • Beerus' facial expression when he sees Goku's Super Saiyan God Super Sayian/Kaioken combo. He freaks out thinking that Goku could have done it during their battle and it's a technique Goku created specifically for him.
    • Beerus and Champa react this way to Zen'o appearing. So do the Kais, a moment later. And Vegeta and Piccolo when Beerus explains who he is.
  • Ominous Latin Chanting: Frieza's theme involves a choir chanting in a breathless, monosyllabic pattern that is as ominous as possible. Taken even further when he first shows off his golden form, with the choir singing verses in almost reverent fashion. Similar music plays when Frieza destroys the Earth. The chanting theme is also played for Frost during the first multiverse championship, which provides a hint of his true nature.
  • Only in It for the Money: Hit is only involved in the tournament to get Champa's cube as Vados offered him, and otherwise doesn't seem at all interested in the other matches at all. He only does anything about Frost because he was trying to steal his prize. Subverted when he faces off against Goku and considers him a Worthy Opponent. This sentiment is enough for Hit to throw the tournament to Monaka since Goku gave up on their match since he didn't like being a pawn to the gods. He even tells Champa point-blant that he didn't want the space cube, that can travel between universes, anymore.
  • Only Sane Man:
    • Both Whis and Vados play this role to their respective gods, especially since Beerus and Champa can be very childish.
    • Bulma thinks she's this since she's the only one concern about Beerus gaining access to the Super Dragon Balls.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business:
    • Despite having the opportunity to do it since the rules were changed, Vegeta doesn't kill Frost, saying that he didn't want to stoop to his level. The same Vegeta who had no problem killing people not even an arc ago.
    • Beerus is closed to freaking out when he realizes that Goku is his last great fighter since Monaka was just brought along to motive Goku and Vegeta, and he isn't very strong.
    • Hit breaks into a smile during his match with Goku, truly enjoy a fight as a martial artist.
    • Both Beerus and Champa are terrified of Zen'o and immediately humble themselves in his presences. This is saying a lot since they're both Jerkass Gods with huge egos.
  • Opt Out: Gohan had initially agreed to be a contestant for the tournament. But then remembered he had a conference on the day Beerus was set to pick everyone up and had to decline.
  • Orgasmically Delicious: Both Champa and Vados react this way when they're eating the instant ramen noodles from Earth.
  • Overshadowed by Awesome:
    • Hit becomes this to Vegeta. Despite Vegeta wiping out three of the five fighters in U6, he gets completely trashed by Hit who is barely trying. Then Goku fights Hit and does better than him in his base form because he has information about Hit's ability. Goku also forces Hit to improve for the first time in his life to keep up and the match only goes up from there.
    • This is the primary problem with the fighters from Universe 6, outside of Magetta and Hit. They are all very powerful badasses who far surpass the levels seen in the Buu Saga, but they can't keep up with Goku and Vegeta who have been through Training from Hell thanks to Whis and have been enhanced through god energy:
      • Botamo is one of the strongest warriors from U6 since he was hand chosen by Vados. His character biography states that he is very proud of his strength and often walks around with a smug smirk. He is still far below Goku who beats him without even transforming or fighting seriously. Although, he still gives Goku some trouble thanks to his ability to transfer all damage to another dimension and Goku muses that he may have lost in a traditional fight.
      • Frost is stronger than Frieza in his true form even after he went through four months of Training from Hell. However, he doesn't have an ultimate form like Frieza and is utterly outmatched against Goku's golden Super Saiyan form.
      • Cabba is an extremely strong fighter who can fight evenly against Vegeta in his base form. Keep in mind that Vegeta's base far surpasses Ultimate Gohan at his absolute best. He is, however, no match against a Super Saiyan….until he ascends himself thanks to Vegeta being a Trickster Mentor and forces him to reach his Rage Breaking Point. He then gets one-shotted once Vegeta goes Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan to show the bridge Cabba needs to cross if he wants to surpass him.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: The two Gods of Destruction, Beerus and Champa. If they ever fight each other, they will destroy both of their universes. Just the two of them trading a couple punches forms a Sphere of Destruction that reduces a good potion of the room they're in to ash without one energy attack being used.
  • Pet the Dog:
    • Botamo is the only fighter who tried to comfort Magetta after Vegeta mocked and beat him.
    • Vegeta uses his meanness and tricks Cabba into evolving into 1st Super Saiyan form by taunting him about blowing up his world and killing his family. After curbstomping the latter in his SSGSS form, he tells Universe 6's Saiyan not only to improve to his level, but to surpass him.
    • Despite clearing outclassing Monaka, Hit throws his fight against him to pay Goku back for giving him a good match.
    • Beerus uses his wish to revive Universe 6's Earth with all its people. It's heavily implied that he does not only to eat its food, but (and probably mostly) because he wants to give a chance to his brother Champa to do that, though he claims that he simply does to make Champa owe him. Beerus seems to care about his brother, though deep down. Both Whis and Champa are impressed.
  • Physical God:
    • Champa, Beerus' twin brother, is Universe 6's God of Destruction. He is Beerus' equal and he isn't allowed to fight his brother or they risk destroying both of their universes.
    • Both Whis and Vados are this since they are stronger than Beerus and Champa and Reality Warpers who can travel across the universe at over light-speed. Whis specifically can rewind time by three minutes.
    • Magetta, like Frieza, isn't an actual deity, but he is powerful enough to give Vegeta a hard time even as a Super Saiyan (which at this point is nearly as strong as an actual Super Saiyan God). He takes no damage even when hit head on by a full-charged Final Flash, the same attack that blew off a giant chunk of Perfect Cell when Vegeta couldn't even hurt him before.
    • Hit also isn't an actual deity, but he is powerful enough to throw down with a Super Saiyan Blue, ages slow enough that he appears to only be in his 40's despite being 1000 years old, and is a Time Master who can freeze time for up to half a second, capitalizing on it with his Super-Speed.
    • Zen'o is a god in all but name. He can destroy the entire multiverse if he wanted to according to Beerus.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse:
    • Cabba is a Saiyan who is even shorter than Vegeta, but is also one of the strongest fighters in Universe 6, able to fight evenly with Vegeta in his base form and eventually ascends to Super Saiyan.
    • Frost is only as tall as Frieza and is far more powerful than him outside of Golden Frieza.
    • Monaka only comes up to Goku's waist, yet Beerus claims that he gave him a better fight than Goku. Although Monaka being powerful is actually a Motivational Lie.
    • Zen'o is probably one of the smallest characters in the entire series. He is also by far the most powerful being in the entire franchise since he can destroy the entire multiverse in an instant according to Beerus.
  • Poison Is Evil: The first sign that Frost isn't as good as he seems. It only goes downhill from there.
  • Power Limiter: Much like Freeza, Frost has difficulty controlling his power in his true form. Unlike Freeza, he doesn't avoid using it out of pragmatism, but from guilt over needlessly killing an enemy. This is just a cover story. The real reason is because when he does fight someone stronger than him, he poisons them, so he never needed to learn to control his power.
  • The Power of Acting: Frost's good guy facade is really impressive. He'll take out space pirates that are under his command and even fool a crowd into thinking that he's a hero. He also pretends that both "poison" incidents are just sudden luck on his end, and acts nice towards Goku and Piccolo about it until Jaco notices something is up. Goku falls for this acting as well.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: Frost turns out to be not so good. He still runs a business that's effectively a galactic real-estate scam involving ruined plants. The difference is where Frieza uses space pirates to directly liquidate planets and rule through fear, Frost uses guerrilla units to tear plants apart in controlled wars so he can step in himself and look like a hero.
  • Pressure Point: Hit uses his time-leaping technique to target the vital parts of his opponents, critically damaging them in the process. Hit is surprised that Vegeta was able to survive this (despite being KO'd) and he says that if Goku keeps on attacking him before finding out how to dodge his technique, Goku would die.
  • Professional Killer: Hit is a legendary hitman in his universe. When he confronts Frost about trying to steal the treasure, Frost asks if Champa or someone from their universe hired him to kill him.
  • Prone to Tears: According to Whis, Monaka fainted (mentally, his eyes were still open) upon seeing Goku's Kamehameha in the first match. He faints again after seeing Vegeta transforms into Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan in his match against Hit.
  • Properly Paranoid: After it's determined that Frost used a poison needle to beat Piccolo, Beerus recalls Goku's unexplained fatigue and checks him for puncture marks. He soon finds what he's looking for, leading to Goku being reinstated.
  • Psychopathic Manchild: Champa goes into this when he is about to kill his entire team because they lost to U7.
  • Rage Breaking Point: A necessary step into becoming a Super Saiyan. Vegeta pushes all of Cabba's buttons to get him angry, including threatening to kill his family and destroy his planet. This pisses Cabba off since he didn't mind Vegeta mocking and demeaning him, but he sure in hell wasn't going to let Vegeta destroy his home and he transforms into a Super Saiyan.
  • Reality Warper:
    • Vados ' powers allow her to create an environment, a tournament ring, and even food stands using her staff on an empty planet. Whis is also shown to have similar abilities.
    • Super Shenron, the Eternal Dragon of the Super Dragon Balls, is so powerful that he can restore a planet that has been long dead along with all its inhabitants. Beerus uses his wish to restore U6's Earth, which is beyond the power of Shenron and Porunga, who both have a one year time limit on restoring life.
  • Really 700 Years Old:
    • Beerus is a god who is at least over 75 million years old since he is the one who trapped Old Kai within the Z-sword. Since Champa is his twin he is the same age as Beerus, although neither look their age.
    • Whis and Vados are older than either Beerus or Champa since they trained them. You would never guess looking at them.
    • Hit looks like he is in his mid-forties for a human, yet he is over one-thousand years old.
  • Recursive Reality: The galaxy-sized Dragon God, in order to allow people to make a wish unto him, teleports them inside his body where they meet a smaller (but still gigantic) version of himself to interact with. Beerus describes it as his core or nucleus.
  • Red Baron: Because Hit never fails to kill a target he is given the nickname, The Flawless Hit.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning:
    • Frost has the same eye color as Frieza, but he puts on a Nice Guy act and pretends to fight evildoers. He's actually very evil, just like Frieza. He's even a planet broker like his counterpart.
    • Hit has red eyes and is a feared Professional Killer who easily takes apart Vegeta even after he transform into a Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan.
  • Remember the New Guy?: Bulma very casually calls her sister Tights like it's nothing new, despite her never showing up in the series and was only introduced as a character in 2013. Goku and Vegeta kind of lampshades this by them being surprised that Bulma has a sister.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Despite being the ruler of the multiverse and powerful enough to destroy the multiverse if he wanted to, Zen'o is a nice, cheerful, and responsible guy. While he came to chew Beerus and Champa out for slacking on their jobs, but ultimately just scolds them rather than replacing or punishing them.
  • Rock–Paper–Scissors: Goku, Vegeta, and Piccolo do this to determine who will fight in what order during the Champa Saga.
  • Running Gag: Anyone who is like Frieza's clan is destined to suffer a Humiliation Conga, as Frost finds out.
  • Screw the Rules, I Make Them!: Champa does this a bit in the tournament to try to give an advantage to his fighters. Beerus and a few of Goku's friends call him out on that and ultimately, Whis and Vados expand the ring to give the remaining fighters more of a fair shot instead of being defeated by ring out and the ring out by flight rule is abolished entirely.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: After losing to Vegeta, Frost tries to take the prize treasure and Champa's cube ship. Hit stops him.
  • Sequel Hook: Zen'o, pleased by how fun the tournament looked, poses the idea of a tournament between every universe. This hook picks up in the Universe Survival Arc, as a way for one of the eight weakest universes to survive the events of the tournament.
  • Serial Escalation:
    • The Namakian Dragon balls are larger than the Earth Dragon Balls. Turns out the Namakians copied theirs from the original Dragon Balls: the Super Dragon Balls, which are the size of planets and have no limits on their wishes. The Eternal Dragon Super Shenron is also much bigger than the other dragons. He bigger than a galaxy.
    • A fight between Beerus and Champa will not only destroy U7, but also U6. Which is why they are not allowed to physically fight each other.
    • We meet Beerus and Champa's boss Zen'o, the King of All, who can wipe out all the universes in an instant if he desired. He also enjoyed the tournament between U6 and U7 so much that he wants to have a tournament with all 12 universes at a later date. Champa even calls his tournament just a warm up for the main event.
  • Serious Business: Champa is willing to lose the Super Dragon Balls he searched so long to collect just to show up his brother and get Earth since he loves the food there.
  • Servile Snarker: Vados, is just as bad as Whis. She reprimands Champa constantly for eating too much and getting fat, and she does the bear minimum to help him unless he specifically orders her to do something.
  • Shout-Out:
    • In Episode 30 Buu is reading Neko Majin Z, an one-shot spinoff manga from Toriyama.
    • Magetta name is a portmanteau of the mecha franchises Mazinger Z and Getter Robo.
    • When Goku uses his Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan/Kaioken combo, his skin is tinted red, especially after he goes up to 10X. In One Piece, Luffy's skin in the anime turns red when he is using Second Gear, which works similarly to the Kaioken. They even use the same sound effects and aura, making this one big double shout out to both shows.
  • Shown Their Work: Hit's attacks do strike vital areas that exist on a real human body. His style of fighting is also very similar to a style of martial arts known as Wing Chun with a little Boxing thrown in.
  • Smarter Than You Look: Champa, and Vegeta, both mistake Magetta for being dim, due to his nature, however he is actually quite clever. He uses his heat powers to give himself a Home Field Advantage and uses a mixture of his species natural abilities to trigger a powerful explosion that nearly ring outs Vegeta. He is only handicap by his inability to fly.
  • Smug Snake: Frost adopts a smug persona after his evil planet-stealing scheme is revealed. He does this even in the face of not one, but two Gods of Destruction who now want to kill him. By comparison, even Frieza, while drunk on power in his golden form, was cautiously polite to Beerus.
  • Smug Super: Hit implores Vegeta to give up before he's killed, saying that he stands no chance despite how powerful and fast he is. After hitting Vegeta several more times in his vital areas, he goes down like a rock. Hit gives Goku the same warning, but Goku is able to counter his technique.
  • The Snack Is More Interesting: Champa is more interested in the food stands Vados created for the tournament than thinking about fighters to be on his team.
  • So Last Season:
    • Played With with the Kaioken. It was Goku's trump card prior to attaining Super Saiyan, after which Goku quit using it because even the most basic form of Super Saiyan had over twice as much power with limited drawbacks. Goku also couldn't combine his Kaioken with his Super Saiyan forms because this would put too much strain on his body. The one time he did was in the anime Filler of the Otherworld Tournament against Pikkon, where his body didn't have the same limits. After Goku masters his godly powers and energy control, he can now combine the Kaioken with his Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan form and he can go up to 10X. The technique, however, is incomplete since Goku is still working on it and it has a 9 out of 10 failure rate in which Goku can seriously injure himself or die.
    • Several other techniques. Vegeta brings back his Galick Gun several times, first against Beerus, then later against Magetta and Cabba in the Universe Tournament (with varying effectiveness) - he even one-ups by charging his signature Final Flash on Magetta. Piccolo is again using signature Namekian traits like being able to stretch his limbs, and even his antennae beams (which haven't been seen since the 23rd Martial Arts Tournament in DB), along with the multi-form he only used in Filler, all against Frost. His Special Beam Cannon is also specifically charged to take down an opponent stronger than him, just like he did with Raditz. Captain Ginyu's body change allows him to rapidly catch up with the Z-fighter's power levels as he can take control of Tagoma's power. Hit's Time-Leaping technique is also essentially a downgraded version of Guldo's Time Freeze, but works much better since Hit is a fighter who can actually take full advantage of it.
  • So Proud of You:
    • Although he would never put it into words, the beatific smile on Vegeta's face while newly transformed Super Saiyan Cabba blasts the hell out of him says how proud he is of the other fighter.
    • Whis and Beerus also take great pride in Goku as he gives Hit the fight of his life.
    Beerus: That's my Goku!
Whis: I am afraid you are mistaken, Beerus-sama. Goku-san is all mine.
  • The Sociopath: Frost oh so very much. He shows no remorse or empathy about starting wars that kill millions and then plays hero before selling the planets he destroys for profit, making him a classic Bitch in Sheep's Clothing. He uses his Nice Guy facade to gain powerful supporters for his cause like the Saiyans and uses his resources to help the children of the people he indirectly murdered. He even tries to manipulate the God of Destruction to his cause, who was completely fooled by Frost's entire act. To top it all off, when he is caught, he brags about what he has done, all with a smug smile on his face. In many ways, he's worse and more dangerous than Frieza since he rule through charm instead of fear.
  • Sore Loser: Champa whines and complains every time something doesn't go his way, to the point even his own attendant has to tell him to keep his manners. After he loses the tournament, Champa threathens to kill all of his own fighters because they "dragged his name through the mud".
  • Spanner in the Works: Frost's cheating may have gone undetectable throughout the entire tournament if it wasn't for Jaco's keen eyes.
  • Sphere of Destruction: When Beerus and Champa fight, they create a slowly-expanding bubble of energy that turns everything it touches to ash, excepting of course Whis and Vados.
  • Spirited Competitor:
    • What Frost seems to be. It's all a lie though.
    • What Hit surprisingly turns out to be. Once Goku gives him a good fight, he drops The Stoic act and starts having a good time, even letting Goku recover from his assault and whip out a new technique on the grounds that Goku deserves it because he forced Hit to up his game as well.
  • Stating the Simple Solution:
    • When Beerus wants a Dragon Radar to track down the last Super Dragon Ball, Bulma suggests just gathering up Earth's Dragon Balls and asking Shenron. Unfortunately, Shenron's not quite up to the task of scanning an entire alternate universe for a single object, so they fall back on the radar.
    • Bulma also points out that Champa could just wish for a lot of good food instead of moving the Earth to his universe. Beerus mocks Bulma for thinking that gods actually care about wishes. This is just an excuse for Champa and him to fight.
    • Vegeta has a tough time against Magetta that he almost loses until he calls him a "Useless scrap of metal" at a critical moment in their bout that scores him the win. Whis later tells him that Magetta's kind are sensitive to harsh comments and Vegeta could've easily won if the did that from the start. Not that Vegeta cares.
  • Stealth Mentor: Like Goku would do in a few years as of the Champa Tournament arc, Vegeta fully intends to have Cabba fight at full power, going as far as threatening his family and destroy his planet so Cabba would become a Super Saiyan. His bluff works, as Cabba does go Super Saiyan when he realized he could do it. Apparently, Goku took notes from Vegeta.
  • The Stoic: Hit rarely, if ever, drops his calm, serious demeanor no matter what is going on around him. Even having a cracked glass shard fly directly at him made from Vados' barrier doesn't do so much as make him open his eyes. Once Goku gives him a good fight, he starts getting serious, and he is shown to break his stoic expression.
  • Story-Breaker Power:
    • Botamo can transfer attacks to his body to another dimension, negating all the damage. This unique damage absorption ability can even keep him safe from Saiyan Beyond God Goku's Kamehameha. If Botamo was in a regular fight, he would certainly beat most opponents by wearing down their stamina before finishing them off. Lucky for Goku, Botamo is in a tournament with ring out rules.
    • Hit is a Time Master similar to Guldo who can freeze time for everyone except himself. He can only do it for 0.1 seconds, but since Hit has Super-Speed on top of his ability, he can mortally wound an opponent before they even have the chance to move. Also, unlike Guldo, he can spam his ability as many times as he wants since it seems to take no stamina. During his match against Goku, he improves the technique, taking it up to 0.5 seconds. Goku can only counter it by using the even more broken Kaioken/Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan combination to literally break time and even then Hit improves again and manages to stop that.
  • Stunned Silence:
    • After Goku is knocked out of the ring, everyone is completely shocked for a long moment.
    • Similarly, everyone from U7 is shocked into silence after Vegeta goes down to Hit.
    • Down twice in Episode 40. First when Goku throws his match against Hit and again when Monaka manages to ring-out Hit with one punch (Hit also throws his match).
  • Superpower Lottery:
    • Botoma's unique damage absorption ability. He can absorb damage from Goku, including the Kamehameha. In the manga, it's suggested that Goku could have overwhelmed him if he went Super Saiyan. In the anime, Goku says he would have probably lost in a straight fight.
    • Frost, he is stronger than Frieza with his normal transformations even after Frieza trains for four months to unlock all his latent power. He only falls behind Frieza because he doesn't have an ultimate form like the tyrant. He most likely didn't have an ultimate form because he never fought anyone as strong as Goku and he poisons anyone who's stronger than him.
    • Magetta's naturally hard metal body makes him immune to all of Vegeta's attacks, including the Galick Gun and Final Flash. His magma spit can even push back Vegeta's most powerful energy blasts.
    • Hit is not only powerful, but he has the ability to stop time. It only works for 0.1 seconds, but that is more than enough given that Hit is also super fast. The Time-Leaping technique then becomes even more powerful after Hit improves it to go up to 0.5 seconds, which he did within minutes in a middle of a fight. And he keeps improving from there.
  • Super-Senses: Jaco has one of the best eyesights in the series. He is able to keep up with Goku and Frieza's fight when only Gohan and Vegeta could see anything. Even when Goku become a Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan and Frieza transforms into Golden Frieza, he can still see everything. It's thanks to Jaco's keen eyesight that he catches Frost cheating by poisoning his opponents with a needle hidden in his arm, something that everyone, including Beerus, Champa, Vados, and Whis, missed. When Goku can't detect Hit's movements, he goes to Jaco and ask him if he can see Hit move. Jaco can't because Hit seems to disappears for a split second. This clues the Galactic King that Hit is Time-Leaping, in which Hit pauses time for 0.1 seconds.
  • Super Spit: Magetta's magma breath is really magma spit.
  • Talking Is a Free Action: Piccolo takes the time to brag about how he manipulated Frost throughout their entire match as he finishes charging the Special Beam Cannon. It cost him the match since it gave Frost time to poison him.
  • Teach Him Anger: A literal case of this with Vegeta towards Cabba. Vegeta intentional tries to rile Cabba up and press his Berserk Button in order to get him angry enough to transform into a Super Saiyan.
  • Tempting Fate:
    • Done twice in the Piccolo vs. Frost match. Frost declares that he won after he kicks Piccolo seemingly into a ring-out. Piccolo wraps his arm around Frost's body so he can't move away from his Special Beam Cannon. Piccolo says that Frost made a mistake in underestimating him and he has been manipulating Frost the entire time, which is why he lost. Frost then poisons Piccolo, causing him to lose control of the Special Beam Cannon and Frost blasts a hole through Piccolo.
    • Frost talks about how he's going to poison Vegeta to death and how he no longer has to hide his true power. Frost goes down in one punch, not even touching Vegeta.
    • Vegeta thinks Magetta will be an easy match since he's too slow to hit him. Then Magetta not only speeds up, but he becomes so powerful that Vegeta is forced to transform. On top of that, Magetta's metal body can withstand Vegeta's attacks, including the Final Flash.
    • Hit tells Goku that no matter what he do he can never counter his time stopping ability. Goku then proceeds to counter the technique and lands a solid blow against Hit.
  • Theme Music Power-Up: Chozetsu Dynamic roars to life at the climax of Goku and Hit's battle, when Goku unveils his trump card: the Super Saiyan Blue Kaioken.
  • This Is Gonna Suck:
    • Beerus' reaction as he realizes that Monaka is going to fight Hit since Goku forfeited his match and he is their last fighter. Piccolo reacts the same way, you can hear him mentally groaning. And, of course, Monaka himself is trembling with fear before getting in the ring.
    • Hit's face when he sees how pissed Champa is for him losing and saying how he's going to kill him.
  • Time Master: Hit shocks everyone by having a time manipulating ability as well. He can freeze time for 0.1 seconds, given him more than enough time to strike his opponent's vital spots and coming close to killing them. Whis says that he's surprise that there is someone other than him who can control time. Hit then shocks everyone again when he reveals that he can take the Time-Leaping technique up to 0.5 seconds since Hit has been improving himself as he fights Goku.
  • Time-Passage Beard: After spending three years (from their perspective) inside the Room of Spirit and Time, both Goku and Vegeta have full beards.
  • Time Stands Still: Hit can stop time for a brief moment, allowing him to avoid attacks and counter them. For characters like Goku, they can only see him vanish, but once Goku figures this out, he's able to predict how Hit will attack.
  • Time Skip: The start of the Champa Saga takes place at least eight months after the Resurrection 'F' Saga.
  • Title Drop: In a sense; the name Dragon Ball Super becomes more apropos this arc with the revelation that there are indeed a set of Dragon Balls known as the Super Dragon Balls.
  • Took a Level in Badass:
    • Goku shows just how far he has come by training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber for three years along with all his training from Whis. He manages to successfully combine his Kaioken with Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan and can take it up to 10X. It was originally thought to be impossible to combine Super Saiyan with Kaioken since the Kaoi-Ken puts a lot of strain on ones' body and a regular Super Saiyan was stressful enough.
    • During Frieza's invasion, Piccolo ranks around or slightly below Shisami's level, who is in turn completely ineffective against an untransformed Gohan. After about six-to-eight months of training with Gohan, Piccolo is an even match if not slightly stronger than Gohan's base form, even though Gohan himself has greatly improved as well. He is also able to dodge and take attacks from Frost's true form, who is way stronger than Frieza. Granted, Frost was holding back since it was a tournament and was trying not to kill Piccolo. He also underestimates Piccolo, which nearly cost him the match.
    • Universal 6's team becomes stronger, while they're fighting:
      • Cabba is already a badass since he is able to match Vegeta's base form even after he trained with Whis for almost two years and got an additional three years of training inside the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. He, however, falls behind Vegeta since he can't become a Super Saiyan, not even knowing that the form existed until he saw Goku transform. After Vegeta purposely pushes him to his Rage Breaking Point he ascends and gives Super Saiyan Vegeta a run for his money. He is then one-shotted by Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Vegeta to show how much farther he can go and the levels he can achieve if he trains hard enough.
      • Hit manages to this in the middle of his fight with Goku. In just a few minutes of fighting Goku, he increases Time-Leaping ability from 0.1 to 0.5, utterly demolishing Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Goku. He does it again when he manages to time stop Goku when he's using his Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan/Kaioken combo.
  • Took a Level in Kindness:
  • Too Dumb to Live: Frost bragging about all his misdeeds in front of an angry Champa, who is disgusted to have someone like Frost on his team. Champa is ready to kill him and only stops because Vegeta wants to fight Frost. After he loses to Vegeta, he tries to steal Champa's prize treasure and ship. When Hit catches him, Frost is terrified that Champa sent him to kill him.
  • Top God: Beerus and Champa are gods of universes. Zen'o is their superior and the ruler of the multiverse. According to Beerus, he's so powerful he could destroy the entire multiverse in an instant if he desired.
  • Tournament Arc: Wouldn't be Dragon Ball without at least one of these. The Champa Saga kicks off an universal tournament against Universes 6 and 7. If Beerus wins, he gets the Super Dragon Balls. If Champa wins, he gets the Earth. Zen'o enjoyed the tournament between U7 and U6 so much that he wants to hold his own tournament in the near future, with all 12 universes.
  • Training from Hell: To prepared for the first universal tournament Goku and Vegeta train for three years straight in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. During the Cell Saga Goku disliked spending a year there, calling it torturing their bodies.
  • Tranquil Fury: Vegeta's interaction with Frost. He is disgusted that Frost turns out to be just as bad as Frieza and reminds him too much of his former boss. Still, he keeps his cool and takes Frost down quickly.
  • Transformation Is a Free Action:
    • Goku tells Frost to transform into his true form since he believe that he will have similar stamina issues that plagued Frieza. Frost choses to uses his third form, claiming that is his true form. After Goku goes Super Saiyan, Frost decides that Goku is powerful enough to handle his full power and transforms.
    • Despite usually going for quick attacks, Hit allows Vegeta to transform into a Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan. He then questions Goku when he didn't transform at first, saying he's being foolish. And when Goku is powering up to combine his Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan form with Kaioken, Hit allows him to do it, seeing Goku as a Worthy Opponent.
  • Trickster Mentor: Cabba begs Vegeta to teach him to how become a Super Saiyan so he can better protect his universe from threats. Vegeta becomes angry that Cabba would ask this during their match and beats the crap out of him while he's a Super Saiyan and refuses to allow Cabba to give up. He then threatens to kill everyone Cabba knows after their match. This pushes Cabba over and he ascends to Super Saiyan, exactly as Vegeta had planned.
  • Troll:
    • Vados constantly Loophole Abuse her orders from Champa. She makes the barriers protecting everyone not as strong as it could be since Champa said it didn't matter and she brings Frost despite knowing that he's an underground planet broker because Champa told her to bring the strongest fighters in U6, not the strongest moral fighters.
    • Bulma makes Beerus promise that he won't wish for anything bad on the Super Dragon Balls, to which Beerus coyly won't promise anything. When he makes his wish, Bulma asked what he wished for. He claims it's for a more comfortable bed, much to Bulma's annoyance.
  • Underestimating Badassery:
    • Champa thinks Goku and Vegeta are pushovers since they moved so slow and sluggish. He is unaware that they are wearing super heavy suits.
    • Frost handles Piccolo with kid's gloves since he sees him as an easy win. He nearly loses after Piccolo manipulates him and he was going to be ring-out by a Special Beam Cannon. He also thinks he will have an easy time with Vegeta since he is allowed to use his poison needle trick and kill Vegeta during their match. He obviously never considers that Vegeta can transform like Goku and he goes down with one punch.
    • Vegeta thinks Magetta will be a pushover since he fits the [[Mighty Glacier definition of big and slow. He ends up badly mistaken after Magetta speeds up, becomes more powerful, and is immune to his attacks. Magetta also nearly ring outs Vegeta twice. The second time he is only saved by the rules, which really pisses Vegeta off.
    • Although Vegeta knows that Hit will be tough, he is taking completely off-guard when he can't even land single blow and Hit can do heavy attacks on top of his lighter blows. In turn, Hit underestimates Goku, calling him young and naive when Goku tells him that he won't transform until he can counter Hit's time freezing technique. Hit is shocked when Goku not only blocks his attacks, but manages to kick him.
  • Unskilled, but Strong:
    • Botamo is a unique mixture of this and Stone Wall. He is more than capable of taking Goku's attacks with no trouble, but Goku far outclassed him in combat. His strategy is to No-Sell his opponents attacks while they run out of stamina and push them out of the ring, but he didn't think about being defeated by a ring out, and couldn't do anything about being thrown out of the ring. Goku specifically notes that Botamo didn't keep up with his training, becoming too depending on his Stone Wall ability.
    • Frost is a skilled fighter, but has poor control of his true form. He killed someone by accident because he couldn't control his full power. Given Frost's true nature, it's questionable how true this is.
    • Magetta zigzags. He is a giant robot like creatures who starts the fight with Vegeta quite slow, but strong and he also can't fly, something that has become a standard technique in Z. At the same time, he knows how to use his abilities like heating up the battlefield to give himself the Home Field Advantage and can easily tank all of Vegeta's attacks, including a Galick Gun and the Final Flash. He also becomes much faster as the fight progressive and makes very good use of his ability to harden magma, turning it into a bat and nearly ring out Vegeta.
    • Hit thinks Goku is this after Goku reveals his plan about not transforming until he can counter Hit's time stopping ability. He is quickly proven wrong.
  • Villain with Good Publicity: Frost is not Freeza's Good Counterpart after all, just his read the Evil Overlord List counterpart. See, it's easier to engender lasting loyalty from others around you, strong warriors included, when you manipulate war to make yourself into a paragon than when you use fear and destruction to bully your way to power.
  • Wake-Up Call Boss: Magetta is the first opponent to truly challenge the Saiyans during the first Universal Tournament. Even as a Super Saiyan, Vegeta can't physically harm him and is nearly ring out, twice. Vegeta is forced to destroy part of the stage in order to win.
  • Warm-Up Boss: Frost is this to Goku since he can beat back Goku's base form just using his third transformation. However, he gets utterly curb stomped by Super Saiyan Goku. To make it worse, Goku even refers to him as a warm-up. Frost only wins by poisoning Goku and he later gets one-hit KO'd by Vegeta. His victory over Goku is also negated since Beerus finds the poison wound on Goku's palm, which allows him back into the tournament.
  • Wasteful Wishing: Beerus claims he wished for the Dragon God to give him a more comfy bed, which Bulma points out even she could do without the need for any wishes. In fact, he wished for the Earth of Universe 6 to be restored.
  • Weak, but Skilled: Piccolo is this to almost everyone at the first Universal tournament. This nearly cost Frost his match since he could have easily put Piccolo away. Piccolo nearly beats him using smart tactics and his own quick thinking. He only lost because Frost poisons him.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: Magetta is extremely durable and could even withstand Vegeta's Final Flash without any damage, but he's quite sensitive. Vegeta calling him a piece of metal junk made him lose the will to fight.
  • We Help the Helpless:
    • Like all Universe 6 Saiyans, Cabba isn't a planet thief, he is a hero who saves other people from evil. He is shocked when he learns that the Saiyans in Universe 7 were Space Pirates.
    • Frost pretends to be this, but he's really a space broker and pirate like Frieza and the U7 Saiyans. Cabba is heartbroken to learn this.
  • Wham Line: Episode 39 has a long build-up as Goku reveals he has a hidden ability and prepares to use it. Only after a lot of powering up and drama does he pronounce the name of his "new" technique: Kaioken, which reaches unsurpassed levels of power in combination with Super Saiyan Blue.
Goku: "Now I'll show you the Kaio-Ken!"
  • Wham Episode:
    • Episode 40 ends with the arrival of Zen'o, who's appearance shocks both Beerus and Champa!
    • In Episode 41, Zen'o enjoyed the tournament between U6 and U7 so much that he wants to hold one of his own with all 12 universes. Beerus also uses his wish to restore U6's Earth.
  • What the Hell, Hero?:
    • Bulma gets on Goku and Vegeta for thinking that the tournament is more important than keeping the Super Dragon Balls away from Beerus.
    • Beerus smacks Goku for sucker punching Monaka in the face when they first meet.
    • Cabba has this reaction when Vegeta nonchalantly reveals that the Saiyans in U7 stole a planet when they destroyed their original homeworld during in-fighting. When Vegeta says it's normal since they're a warrior race, Cabba shoots back that is exactly why they shouldn't be stealing planets. He has another one after he finds out that Frost has been cheating by poisoning his opponents. He then learns that this is Frost's true character.
  • The Worf Effect:
    • Frost is stronger than Frieza, not including an ultimate form, and is able to overwhelm Goku's base form with just his third transformation. However, he gets stomps into the ground by Super Saiyan Goku in his true form and only wins by cheating. When he fights Super Saiyan Vegeta, he gets taking out with one punch. He also gets one-shotted, again, when Hit catches him trying to steal Champa's prize money and cube ship.
    • In the Tournament Arc, the very barrier that holds in the air is subject to this trope. It was built to be very durable, and survived a blast from Champa with no damage (though he wasn't seriously trying to break it), but gets broken during three consecutive matches. When Vegeta destroys a second similar barrier during his fight with Magetta, Champa then demands why Vados created such an easily-breakable barrier, and she cites his reasoning as basically 'he didn't care how strong it was; just create it', implying she intentionally chose to make a weak field (perhaps in both cases) just to mess with him. The barrier is completely destroyed in the final match, as are the smaller fields around the spectator areas, though given the power levels of the combatants, it's not the least bit surprising.
    • Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta is utterly demolished by Hit to show the latter's prowess. He didn't even land a blow on Hit. The impressive part? Vegeta's full power was still far ahead of what Hit, who was holding back, was using and Hit still won through pure skill at martial arts, and using his incredibly powerful Time-Leap technique.
  • World's Strongest Man: This title is passed around a lot since there is a dividing point between mortals, gods, and different universes:
    • Beerus officially holds the title as the strongest in the universe. That said, the 'true' strongest in the universe belongs to Beerus' assistance Whis who is also Beerus' teacher and is now training Goku and Vegeta.
    • From Universe 6 there is Champa, Beerus' twin brother. He may be a little weaker than Beerus due to being overweight and lazy, but he is still a God of Destruction and any fight with Beerus risks both of their universes, which is why they can't fight each other directly. Like Beerus, Champa's assistance Vados is way stronger than him. She may even be stronger than Whis, making her the strongest in both Universes 6 and 7.
    • On planet Earth, Goku is the strongest of all the Z-Fighters with Vegeta not being too far behind thanks to training with Whis. With the revelation that Monaka is not the great fighter Beerus claims he is, Goku is officially the strongest mortal fighter in Universe 7. He further solidifies this by revealing that he can now combine Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan with the Kaioken, taking him beyond Vegeta, which pisses the former off.
    • Beerus claims that Monaka is the strongest mortal in Universe 7 since he gave him a better fight than Super Saiyan God Goku. He forces Monaka to fight last at the tournament since he is The Ace. This is a lie Beerus created to give Goku and Vegeta motivation to keep growing stronger and to win him the tournament.
    • Hit is said to be the strongest mortal fighter from Universe 6, hand chosen by Champa to win him the entire tournament. Hit is feared in his universe for being a legendary assassin who never fails to kill his target. He more than lives up to his hype given that he destroys Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Vegeta using only a series of light hits with one heavy attack. His ability to freeze time for 0.1 seconds also gives him a major edge since he also have Super-Speed. Even Beerus fears his technique. Hit also shows that he can adapt and improve during a fight like a Saiyan taking his Time-Leaping technique from 0.1 seconds to 0.5, and increases it even more as he fights Goku.
    • Then we have the Zen'o, the King of All the Universes, who is able to wipe out all 12 universes in an instant and strikes fear into Champa and Beerus.
  • Worthy Opponent:
    • Frost claims to feel this way about Goku, but it's probably just a lie to cover up his true nature.
    • Surprisingly, Hit actually does feel this way about Goku after the latter forces him to improve for the first time in his life. He even allows Goku to reach greater heights because Goku forced him to improve as well. Goku feels the same way and ends up using the Super Saiyan Blue Kaioken against him; it's an unfinished technique with a 9/10 chance of crippling him and it was designed for the explicit purpose of fighting Beerus, but Goku feels Hit deserves nothing less than his absolute best.
    • During their time in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, Goku readily admits that Vegeta always manages to find and exploit new flaws in his fighting techniques. Vegeta won't say it out loud, but he admits the same is true of Goku.
  • Wounded Gazelle Gambit: Piccolo reveals he let Frost shoot him in the leg. Frost had been deflecting his attacks with ease, so Piccolo took the hit to cause him to become overconfident. After some more go-arounds, he even fakes losing concentration on charging his Special Beam Cannon for good measure. When Frost stops to gloat, he is immobolized by Piccolo's arm. If not for Frost cheating, Piccolo would've won the match handily.
  • Wrong Context Magic: Hit's time stopping ability is also out there since he is only the third Time Master in the entire series. He completely destroys Vegeta with his ability.
  • Year Inside, Hour Outside: In preparation for the tournament in the Champa arc, Goku and Vegeta spend three days (or three years from their point of view) in the new Hyperbolic Time Chamber back on Earth.
  • You Have Failed Me: After the tournament has ended and Champa's team has lost, he threatens to kill them all for embarrassing him. The arrival of the god of the multiverse interrupts the attempt.

Kaioken times ten!

Goku powers up using the Kaioken to multiply his power.. and you have to feel sorry for Sean Schemmel's vocal cords as he screams throughout.

How well does it match the trope?
