    Dongtae
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dongtae.png

The main character. The school's "bread shuttle" and bullying victim who used Dice to get out of his bad fate and become strong. He receives an A-rank Dice which gives him the Time Pause ability.

  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: When fists don't work, Dongtae would not shut up asking the opponent to not do whatever they're doing and help him instead, and will gladly sacrifice himself if it can resolve the conflict without considering the other side's dishonesty.
  • All for Nothing: Dongtae establishes the Guild where Dicers share rewards without the need for power abuse. X then gives everyone almost no quests, then announces a battle royale quest, completely undermining Dongtae's effort.
  • Always Save the Girl: Whenever a girl is threatened, Dongtae would nosedive into danger without ensuring their safety, even if they went into the dangerous situation willingly.
  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: Played with. Earlier on Dongtae uses his strength to create his own guild, promising to help guild members gain Dice in return for them acting responsibly and without violence. However his power isn't enough for this to influence any of the A-rank players, and his own guild members have several selfish personnel who don't really take kindly to the limitations. Overall, the effort fails.
  • Beware of the Nice Ones: Dongtae is willing to drop everything to help the Guild save the choir club, but when it turns out to be a trap, Dongtae accepts X's quest to destroy all traitors.
  • Brought Down to Badass: After the fight with X, Dongtae is so injured he loses all his Dice and reverts to his original appearance. He can still use A-abilities if he gets Dice from someone.
  • Butt-Monkey: Dongtae was the most victimized kid in school at the start of the story. Once he becomes a Dicer he starts improving himself and things start to change for him.
  • The Chains of Commanding: Dongtae uses his superior abilities to enforce rules at the school with the Guild, which is difficult to do when everyone only thinks for themselves. Once more quests came in, all rules went out of the window again. Soon the entire guild along with Sungchul, the rabbit teeth guy and the choir club turn on Dongtae because the quest said so.
  • Character Development: After losing the Dice and being hunted down, Dongtae realizes that he expects too much from people who, him included, have ambitions that aren't compatible.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Dongtae sees being a Dicer like being a superhero. However, everyone else thinks he is poking his nose into other people's business.
  • Determinator: One of Dongtae's main strength is the refusal to give up, even if he's defenseless and his plan would be sure suicide or when everyone else tries to convince him to avoid going the hard path.
  • Colour-Coded Timestop: His A-rank ability Time Pause, considered the strongest of the basic ones. During its use, everything around him goes monochrome.
  • Crazy Jealous Guy: Tongtae believes Tebin dates Eunju with ulterior motives, and she'll become his if he defeats him. Eunju has to explain that dating was her idea.
  • Fragile Speedster: Dongtae focuses on speed and power, but not on defense.
  • Good Samaritan: He gives his last spare Dice to Nani for no reason in particular if only to temporarily make her health better.
  • Hypocrite:
    • Near the beginning Dongtae accuses Taebin for using the Dice system to get closer to Eunju. He ask Dongtae isn't he been doing just that recently and Dongtae decides to stop the conversation.
    • In a confrontation with his younger Data Ghost, Dongtae says he'll win the Final Die, make everyone happy and make Eunju realize the errors of her ways. Dongtae's Data Ghost asks how is it different from what she's doing, while Dongtae has caused the problem in the first place with no idea how to solve it and Dongtae has no comeback.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Dongtae decides he has caused Eunju enough trouble to be her boyfriend, especially when it turns out she asked Taebin for a date herself.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Dongtae's primary stat is Agility. This lets him move fast in battle while kicking with the power of a Strength Dicer.
  • Magical Incantation: Dongtae initially believes Time Pause needs to be spelled out to activate. Taebin proves that the words don't matter as long as the intent is finalized, by intercepting him with automated Teleportation. And other Dicers already stopped with Calling Your Attacks anyway and these get reserved for the reader.
  • Nice Guy: Dongtae happily gave Byungchul a Die as a fellow bullying victim. Later, Dongtae stopped him from going too far during the latter's attacks on antagonistic bullies. In general he wants the best for others even if they're hostile to him.
  • Parental Abandonment: His parents are ashamed of him and sent him to a small apartment where he lives by himself and him mother visits him once every few weeks.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: He has brown eyes that turn red what he's angry.
  • Screw Destiny: After becoming the Dicer, Dongtae's personality can be summarized by, as he puts it, "it's unfair to accept things decided at birth". He also has less issues with villains who beleive Society Is to Blame, but takes great offense with X using godly powers to toy with people's lives.
  • Time Master: His A-Rank Ability is Time Stands Still, but it doesn't stop there. The Ancient Die Dogntae wins in the Random Machine has several bonus abilities that are randomly selected: Time Rewind Mechanic that undoes a few minutes, except memories and Dice-inflicted effects; Time Skip, jumping Dongtae forward 10 seconds while avoiding damage; and Time Distortion, which slows down the opponent.
  • Time Rewind Mechanic: One of the abilities Dongtae receives from the Ancient Die is Time Rewind. This lets him undo several minutes, though everyone in proximity will remember it. This also undoes quests others have completed, but doesn't heal side-effects from abilities.
  • Took a Level in Badass: As is common among Dicers, but being The Hero Dongtae has several onscreen moments: first using the Dice he gains from simple quests to increase his physical stats, such as strength, toughness and especially agility (which he maxes out). Later, he gains an A-rank die that grants him the ability to stop time from saving Eunju in a quest. Then he aquires the Anicent Die from the Random Machine, which is an "S-rank" item, and the only one to have something like that.
  • The Unchosen One: Dongtae stands out as the only one who tries to solve the problem at its core and is regularly asked by Dicers, dead and alive, if he thinks he deserves the Final Die more than others. He doesn't think so, he's just doing it For Happiness, and not even actually getting killed can make him give up.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Dongtae gives Byungchul one die out of pity. He had no idea that in a month the Dice spread across the entire school because of it, and everything else that follows.
  • Wouldn't Hit a Girl: Dongtae holds back against female enemies and keeps giving them a chance to apologize.

    Eunju (Spoilers)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/eunju.png

Dongtae's initial love interest, a pretty girl who treats him and everyone else with kindness, despite him being the school's "bread shuttle". As she becomes aware of the Dice, she refuses to use them, seeing them as harbingers of disaster which bring out greed and selfishness in others. This attitude makes her an ideological opposite of Dongtae, Mio, and Dicers in general, who are often unhappy with their lives. Her stubborn refusal also piques X's interest, with dangerous results.

  • Anti-Hero: Instead of thinking like Dongtae that X, the administrator, is the problem, she believes the Dice, the tool, are the problem, and tries to erase them. While she has her moral standards, she refuses to acknowledge the Dice have helped people too.
  • Black-and-White Insanity: Eunju is convinced that Dice are inherently evil, even if Dongtae tries to assure her that they could be used responsibly, and she tries to get rid of all of them.
  • Bystander Syndrome:
    • Eunju either didn't notice or downplayed the bullying problem in school. Despite being friends with two victims, aside a nice gesture she didn't do anything. Some Dicers accuse her even further that she would never help anyone if it's not her problem.
    • X flat out asks her to become the Dicer and stop the fights if she hates them that much. Her hesitation gets Miju killed by Sungchul right in front of her.
  • Class Princess: Deconstructed. She is the prettiest girl in school, but it turns out that everyone is either jealous of her or hate her attitude that they see as condensending.
  • Clothing-Concealed Injury: The students were bothered by her perfect appearance, but it turns out she has a large scar on her back from a car accident.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Eunju doesn't like being called "born perfect" and had a pretty sad childhood. Eunju's parents picked up the other girl from the piano competition, who Eunju wanted to win but got the award instead for being talented, and after the girl started to make a fuss in a car, it caused an accident with Eunju as Sole Surivor. She has a large scar on her back since then.
  • Dark Action Girl: Upon finally rolling a Dice, Eunju's powerful desire to eradicate the Dice creates a chain of events leading to her acquisition of no less than 3 A-rank abilities, which she immediately uses to kill two people with.
  • Damsel in Distress: Being a non-Dicer, she nearly gets kidnapped twice. First a new recruit tries to deliver a "pretty girl" to Class 8, then as part of the hunt quest aimed to hurt her Class 8 locks her in the closet, also saving her "for other activites". Dongtae saves her both times. Then she gets captured in Dongtae's fight with X and he has to admit defeat.
  • Enemy Mine: Eunju didn't plan to help Dongtae, but X's Evil Laugh at Nani's death made her agree to cooperate taking him down, while she and Dongtae can settle the differences later.
  • Every Scar Has a Story: Has a Rugged Scar on her back which origin is implied to be from a car accident.
  • First Love: She is Dongtae's crush, but becomes Taebin's girlfriend soon after his transfer to her class.
  • The Gift: Aside good looks she's good with piano and singing. Eunju as a child wanted the other girl to win the piano competition praising her hard work, but received the award herself, which made both of them unhappy. When Taebin praises her for hard work, she breaks into tears that someone didn't think she was just born talented.
  • Hunter of His Own Kind: She's a Dicer who exclusively targets other A-Dicers.
  • An Ice Person: She uses cash shop to upgrade her Telekinesis to freeze wet Dawn in place.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: She just wants to be a regular human. Rather, she even wants all Dicers to return to how they were. Furthermore, she hates own natural luck becuase of how miserable it makes others feel.
  • Incorruptible Pure Pureness: She refuses to go along with X's games, fearing he's been corrupting people in school, and is correct about it. Eventually she becomes a Dicer herself and kills two others, though still has a moral code to uphold.
  • Innocent Blue Eyes: She has wide blue eyes and refuses to get involved with violence at first.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Eunju answers to Dongtae's hypothetical question that people better remain like they're born, without magical enchancements. She says it to someone who was literally Born Unlucky and a Bully Magnet until he magically improved his appearance.
  • Instant Expert: Seconds after becoming a Dicer she's gets two A-rank abilities and uses them to kill for the third one, and shortly upgrades all three more than any Dicer could in a lifetime.
  • Madonna-Whore Complex: Most of the guys see her as a pure Madonna of a person that can do no wrong, and because of that most girls see her as a Attention Whore who uses the boys lust for her own benefit. This is the reason she fell in love with Taebin, as he actually sees her as an ordinary girl.
  • Master of Illusion: Her enchanted Telekinesis lets her leave illusionary decoys of herself.
  • Never Hurt an Innocent: As an A-Ranker, she's only interested in getting the rest of the A-Dice, and her two victims happened to be villains. She spares Dongtae and Mio in case she'll be find someone else with same abilities. When she fights Suksoon, who is a Serial Killer at that point, she loses because he takes a low-Ranker hostage, and refuses to chase him to the hospital.
  • Nice Girl: Eunju doesn't seem influenced by outer appearances at all, peer pressure be damned. She's consistently nice to Dongtae despite him being unattractive and a known bully target, she tells Mio she thinks she is beautiful before her Dice changes. It's notable that everyone who hates her so far cites her being "miss perfect" as the reason, simply believing her sweet persona is a lie, or can only fathom her kindness to be the result of a privileged life.
  • No MacGuffin, No Winner: She threatens to jump off the roof if attacking her is required for the quest, with nobody getting the reward. It annoys the students even more and Dongtae has to prevent her from falling.
  • Refusal of the Call: Eunju gets a few Dice and keeps them with her, but refuses to activate them. This annoys X enough that he puts a hit on her for the entire school.
  • Secretly Selfish: Eunju does confirm she was kind to Dongtae to cover her guilt over being "born special". He thinks it's okay.
  • Selective Obliviousness: She calls the school having "friendly classmates" and is surprised the students are aggressive, thinking the Dice have changed them. She seem to not have realized bullying into slavery was always a regular occurrence.
  • So Beautiful, It's a Curse: She's called the most pretty girl in school, which left her with more problems than good.
  • Tranquil Fury: The first thing Eunju does upon becoming the Dicer is to fatally crush teacher Kim with desks, then tries that with Dawn and kills Samsusaeng instead. all with a deadpan face. Then attacks Taebin without saying a thing, but snaps out of it when Dongtae arrives.
  • Took a Level in Badass: After acquiring Dice, she quickly develops her abilities further, becoming especially proficient with her Telekinesis and even upgrading her Invisibility to Master of Illusion levels, all in a time frame that other Dicers barely show any improvement at all.
  • Unwitting Muggle Friend: Eunju is the only non-Dicer in school for a long time, and Dongtae tries to make extra effort to not get her involved. When Dongtae does tell her about being a Dicer, she tries being friendly to him, but it becomes difficult for her.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Eunju believed from the start that the Dice is a source of catastrophe, and X takes great pains to convince her to do something about it, consequences be damned. Upon finally rolling one and gaining great power, she decides to take it upon herself to eliminate Dice with the power of the Final Die, and is immediately shown willing to kill for this.
  • Wide-Eyed Idealist: Her Fatal Flaw, her idealism makes her ignore the suffering around her.
  • You Are What You Hate: She hates the Dice conceptually, but eventually becomes a Dicer for the sole reason of fighting other Dicers. Lampshaded by X, who notes she hates Dice so much, her Desire may make her the strongest Dicer yet.

    Taebin
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/taebin.png

An impossibly successful transfer student who comes to Dongtae's school, inadvertently spreading the secrets of Dice. Has the A-rank ability Teleport.

  • The Ace: Before the Dice spread, Taebin was the only Dicer in Dongtae's school, making him unnaturally strong, tough, fast, handsome and smart. He even gets Eunju to date him, which Dongtae dreamed of for years. Even after Dice do spread, he is still miles ahead of most novice Dicers in all stats, and for a long time is the only A-ranker. During later events he remains far more knowledgeable about Dice than others, though that's mostly due to him having a longer history than them.
  • Ambiguously Bi: He's dating Eunju, but doesn't have much interest in her. In the past Taebin received a quest to confess his deep desire to Mooyoung and gets very upset, and saying that he likes him completes it.
  • Broken Ace: While he may the The Ace, all of this is due to surviving and being traumatized by Mooyoung's rampage in the past, and understanding the more brutal nature of Dice.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Taebin, who was bullied and humiliated daily by his classmates so badly he actually tried to kill himself several months prior to the main story, before Mooyoung stopped him and befriended him. Then, when things finally started to look up for him, Mooyoung killed all of their friends, other Dicers, in cold blood — all to get the Final Die. To top it off, much later in the story Mooyoung is revealed to have possessed his body.
  • Fighting from the Inside: As Mooyoung chokes Eunju, Taebin wakes up and lets her escape and gives her a pack of Dice.
  • Foil: To Dongtae. Both changed their lives for the better with Dice, looked very differently before and were victims of bullying, rivaled for Eunju's heart and think this world is unfair. Taebin is also The Ace, while Dongtae is only learning the potential of the Dice. However, Taebin doesn't care for Eunju as much as Dongtae, and is against spreading the Dice. Both are also driven by love to someone who treated them kindly in the worst of times, but whereas Dongtae came to oppose Eunju's views of eliminating the Dice, Taebin never truly stopped supporting Mooyoung, even undergoing a Memory Gambit for him. It could be said that the main difference between them is their view of Dice's potential for good.
  • Interrupted Suicide: Before, Taebin nearly jumped off roof due to bullying, but was saved by Mooyoung the last moment and was given the Dice.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: Taebin is missing one part from his flashback where he let Mooyoung merge with him, abandoning his friends while at it.
  • New Transfer Student: His transfer to Dongtae's class sets the plot in motion by introducing the Dice.
  • Sole Survivor: The only left alive from the previous generation of A-Rankers, as Mooyoung needed to kill 6 of them to be brought to X's dimension and Taebin was the 7th. Mooyoung let Taebin live expecting him to unwittingly create new A-Rankers and also requiring a body to heal himself.
  • Split-Personality Takeover: After some time, Mooyoung has slowly taken full control of him.

    Mio
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mio_29.png

A formerly nerdy and chubby looking girl who fell in love with Dongtae even before he changed himself with Dice, and like him has changed her appearance with it. After completing a quest to "stay a night at Dongtae's house", she gains the A-rank ability Clairvoyant.

  • Animal Motifs: Mio has a frequent cat smile, strong attachement to Dongtae and stray cats, and uncontrollable personality. In Dongtae's dream she scratches his face and also turns into a realistic cat.
  • Big Beautiful Woman: She was a bit obese at first, but is generally one of the nicest people.
  • Combat Clairvoyance: Her improved Clairvoyant shows her the optimal fighting moves for her opponent and herself.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Mio slightly beats Dongtae up because Jieun provided him shelter for a night, even after Mio publically announced to not be his girlfriend.
  • Don't Look At Me: When Dawn temporarily drains Mio's Dice, she reverts to her previous appearance and panics even if the attacker doesn't care how she looks.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: She's the "fat student" Dongtae crashed into in the city, but she's properly introduced only after the hunt quest, as she was abstaining from school.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: When she's first introduced, nobody remembers what her name is beside "Pig Glasses Pimples", and she herself prefers her new identity.
  • Icy Blue Eyes: Has blue eyes and tends to stare coldly at people.
  • Parental Abandonment: Her parents don't care much about her, so she first ran away into her studies, then away from home altogether.
  • I Owe You My Life: Mio owes Dongtae her life for accientally spreading the Dice, turning her life for the better, and she tries to express her feelings. Her general motives are whatever Dongtae decides on, as long as she can be his girlfriend.
  • Skewed Priorities: After Jeuin enters and leaves Dongtae's holding cell, Mio is understandably pissed, and uses her Clairvoyance to... check what she thinks of Dongtae and what Dongtae thinks of Eunju, missing that he's just got means to escape.
  • Status Infliction Attack: Mio's level 3 Clairvoyance can "edit Dicers" to remotely add statuses, inflicting berserk, One-Hit Kill from muscle pain, or minor brainwashing.
  • True Sight: Her Clairvoyant gives her Sudden Game Interface, giving basic info on anything she looks at. It is constantly active with no need for Dice consumption, at least until the user chooses to use the more advanced applications of the ability.
  • Tsundere:
    • Mio is romantically interested in Dongtae, but instead of confessing she calls him an idiot. When she finally does confess and bluntly suggests "taking her", Dongtae hesitates and she beats him up with a Groin Attack.
    • In season 3, she breaks up with him, feeling that Dongtae prefers Eunju over her (though X set him up to make it look like that). However, it's quite clear that she still loves him and is only feigning distance in order to keep him safe. Though, she did almost kill Dongtae when it looked like he slept with another girl after the fall.
    • Mio's ghost appears in Dongtae's Dying Dream, then gives up on him because he didn't believe her immediately. Then she scratches his face when he does follow her.
  • Weight Woe: She hates what she used to look like and was nicknamed Dr. Orc by the others in class.

Dongtae's school

    Byungchul (Spoilers)
A nerdy student who barely gets off bullies' notice thanks to Dongtae being their main victim. Dongtae's acquisition of Dice changes his life for the worst.
  • Butt-Monkey: Like Dongtae, he starts of as a bullying victim. It grows worse once Dongtae improves himself with Dice since now the bullies only have him to abuse. Unlike Dongtae, acquiring Dice doesn't improve his situation much.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Byungchul tried to hack into the Dice system and was making notes. After his death his book gives Dongtae some early insight on Dice and X that others don't have.
  • He Knows Too Much: He figured out some chunk of the Dice mechanics, only to get lured into his own death by X.
  • Nerd Glasses: Wears glasses and is notably good at studying. He also had to do the homework for his bullies.
  • Sacrificial Lamb: He is the first onscreen death and doesn't last long since his introduction.
  • Sanity Slippage: Once he gets the Dice, he attacks the bullies and almost fights Dongtae for trying to stop him. He eventually goes into a deep end of trying to burn the school.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Dies a few chapters after coming into the spotlight. He is also single-handily the main reason for the proliferation of the Dice among the wider student body, which heralds the true dark nature of the series.
  • Unwitting Pawn: X plays with his emotions and sends him on a quest to burn the school that would get him killed. He had no idea that he was used to spread the Dice among the majority of the other students.

    Deawoong
A power-hungry bully and one of the first Dicers in school. His wish for the Final Die is an abstract combination of being rich, being surrounded by girls and being famous. Has the A-Ability Cloaking.
  • Butt-Monkey: Daewoong becomes a sort of comic relief after losing to Dongtae. Though he still casues problems with his Cloaking, out of Dicers he's comically the weakest.
  • Eyes Always Shut: Deawoong has eyes permanently closed.
  • Invisible Jerkass: By taking Dice from others, Deawoong becomes the next A-Ranker after Dongtae, and uses his Cloaking to unsucessfully infiltrate the public bath, peek under skirts and theft. His stated goal with the Final Dice is to build an ultimate harem.
  • Starter Villain Stays: Despite being the earliest and weakest Dicer in the series, Deawoong remains a consistent thorn in Dongtae's side, allying himself with whoever's against him at any moment and survives the entire series.
  • Super-Toughness: One thing Deawoong is proud of is his Durability stat focus, which let him endure encounters with stronger opponents more than once.
  • The Watson: During the final game he reluctantly joins the heroes, but becuase he never paid attention to the plot and isn't really bright, Eunju and Jieun have to recap to him recent developments and what are they planning to do.

    Class 8 Family / Guild
A clan of students that have collected the Dice when they've first started spreading, establishing a mafia-like authority in the entire school, with Deawoong in charge. Dongtae has defeated Deawoong in X's quest and rebranded the group as his Guild where members would share the Dice evenly. But the hunger for more Dice made the Guild a short-lived idea, and a couple of quests that discourage cooperation later, the group effectively disintegrated.
  • Attempted Rape: When the Dicer Family discusses hurting Eunju, they bring up that "her other places" are for the leader only, with another Dicer wondering if he can do whatever he wants as he's alone. She gets rescued before then.
  • Bullying a Dragon: While they had suspicion Taebin is a Dicer, they still think they have a chance after Taebin singlehandedly knocked out dozens of them.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Sungchul aquires Flight A-Ability in a quest right before the confrontation with Dongtae. Then he realizes he's in closed space and he can't dodge Dongtae's punches.
  • The Dragon: The coconut head has the strength while Daewoong has the charisma. Despite early hostility, the former becomes the latter's right hand man.
  • Elite Mooks: The foxes are Amazon Brigade of three girls with complimentary stats that aren't above outright killing Eunju disregarding the quest. They only appear near the end of the quest.
  • Eyes Out of Sight: The Dragon has eyes completely blocked by hair.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Deawoong gets offensed by the new recruit lying about being the only non-Dicer in his class to get a Dice out of pity.
  • Exact Words: Yes, Deawoong will give you the Dice for valuables as promised, just not useable ones.
  • Falsely Reformed Villain: Dongtae's Guild is proven to be just the continuation of Class 8 without Deawoong, as pretty much all members have transfered by the promises of easier Dice collection, and the control slowly moves from Dongtae to Gilma.
  • Karmic Death: Sungchul kills Miju, but not only he fails to get her A-Dice, he succumbs to his injuries while escaping and X declares his wounds be unrecoverable by the system. He happens to crash land in the middle of Dicers who loot his Dice.
  • Mind over Matter: Gilma uses his Telekinesis to trap Dongtae in the subway and shower him with broken glass.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: The cowardly student with rabbit teeth is later known as Gilma, short for Guild Master.
  • Shockwave Stomp: Sungchul turns his enchanted Flight into a gravity hammer against Miju, explosively crushing the ground on landing.
  • Starter Villain: When the Dice first start spreading, Daewoong quickly takes control of nearly all other Dicers in school and all together antagonize Dongtae and Taebin during the hunt quest.
  • Slasher Smile: Miju gets a very unfeminine grin thinking about what she can do with the Final Die or when fighting.
  • Took a Level in Badass: After the hunt quest, the teeth guy who was pushed around by Deawoong acquires Telekinsis and becames the leader nicknamed Gilma of a splinter faction.
  • Verbal Tic: Miju says "chet" whenever she's frustrated, which is all the time.

Outsiders

    Mooyoung
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mooyoung.png

The person who gave Dice to Taebin and five other people. He is the only man Taebin knows of who faced X.

  • Ambiguously Brown: His dark skin is lampshaded by a random student who thought Mooyoung may be of foreign descent.
  • Casting a Shadow: Like X, Mooyoung can manifest purple spikes, whips, and hands from his shadow.
  • Dark Messiah: The splinter cell from Dongtae's Guild have formed own cult-like group that worships Mooyoung as a prophet. He's only using them to bait Dongtae out and kills Gilma for his A-Dice.
  • Demonic Possession: Dawn helps Taebin realize that Mooyoung has been controlling him at few points without him remembering it and is taking over. Taebin fails to do anything about it.
  • The Dreaded: Anyone who knows of him, especially Taebin and Dawn are afraid of him. His vast experience, amount of Dice and the ability to use Time Stop makes him a force to be reckoned with, and all those who oppose him seek allies, knowing they cannot win alone.
  • False Friend: Mooyoung fixed Taebin's entire life and made a team of seven friends. Once they became A-Rankers, he pulls You Have Outlived Your Usefulness on them.
  • Faux Affably Evil: He is pretty charismatic and charming on the outside, but has been shown to be a ruthless manipulator, only interested in becoming the Top Ranker.
  • Grand Theft Me: The reason why Mooyoung and Taebin have multiple profiles under Clairvoyant is because Mooyoung is a serial body snatcher.
  • The Heavy: Both X and Mooyoung have set the plot in motion, but while X can only give suggestions to the Dicers, Mooyoung is an active and near-invincible threat.
  • Hero Killer: Mooyoung takes out Mio and mocks Dongtae's will to protect everyone. Even as Dongtae manages to turn back time and save her, she's too injured to continue and gets wiped out anyway.
  • Hidden Depths: Implied by Taebin that Mooyoung wants to reset the world to undo something personal, but it's not explained.
  • Hive Mind: Clairvoyance shows Mooyoung has many profiles from a serial Body Surf, not just his own. Near the end he starts addressing himself by "we" and is revealed to be a collective hatered towards the world, with even his blood growing faces and talking in different voices, and assimilates Johann and almost Dongtae.
  • Hope Crusher: Mooyoung likes to make long rants how anyone's desire is pointless and everyone would be happier dead. Makes more sense when he's shown to be an amalgamation of Despair of countless dead Dicers.
  • I Need You Stronger: Mooyoung saved Taebin not out of good will, though not for wanting a share of his Dice either. He needs more A-rankers for the next step in X's game so he could interject and kill them for their abilities.
  • In the Hood: Mooyoung is a villain who hides his face under a hoodie.
  • Knight of Cerebus: Whenever Mooyoung appears, the series makes a reminder than Anyone Can Die.
  • Mana Drain: Mooyoung can Dice Drain by grabbing another Dicer.
  • Nigh-Invulnerability: As a veteran Dicer he is World's Strongest Man already with near infinite Dice reserves. Revealing himself as Hive Mind composed of countless desires, even being cut in half by Dongtae's Time Cutter or being shot with More Dakka into smithereens doesn't kill him as he returns From a Single Cell.
  • Older Than They Look: It's not known exactly how old Mooyoung is, but he's no teenager. He has hopped from body to body over "many, many years", repeating the cycle of gathering all six A-rank abilities and challenging X.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: Mooyung is revealed to be a Merger of Souls, who want to use the Final Die to undo mankind out of corrupted hatered.
  • Post-Final Boss: After X has been dealt with, Mooyoung tries to kill Dongtae and take the Final Die for himself, but at this point the Final Die has already decided to make Dongtae the next X and Mooyoung gets thrown into the Blank White Void.
  • Rage Against the Heavens: Mooyoung is unsatisfied with the world at large and will do everything to challenge X for the Final Die, over and over.
  • Restart the World: Mooyoung's true objective is to reset the world. Not before the Dice, but before mankind.
  • Satanic Archetype: Mooyoung challenges a god equivalent repeatedly and last time gets knocked from the sky in a beam of light. X considered him his favorite toy until he got bored with him. He uses his charms for Taebin to make a self-destructive deal. His special abilities include turning own shadow into purple spikes and growing a pair of bat wings. He's also not even human and is instead literally Made of Hatered.
  • Significant White Hair, Dark Skin: Unlike other characters, Mooyoung has completely white hair and darker skin tone, giving him more enigma as a veteran Dicer.
  • Sharing a Body: Has entered Taebin's body to survive after asking to do so and is parasyting inside of him.
  • Stop Worshipping Me: Downplayed. While not referred to as a deity, but as a prophet, he is pretty annoyed by Gilma's obsession with him.
  • Suicidal Cosmic Temper Tantrum: Mooyoung's excuse is that accidents and crimes happen all the time, so the best way to avoid them is to make sure there's noone to cause them, as in all of mankind. It's implied Mooyoung is a victim of such accident.

    Samsusaeng
An unnamed masked graduate from Dongtae's school who comes with the hooded figure as an attacker.
  • Ax-Crazy: Samsusaeng failing the college three times did a number on his sanity, he joins the War Quest as an attacker just so he could destroy the school, and just loves to scream how his school life was pointless.
  • Doppelgänger Attack: Samsusaeng can use the Teleportation v2 for a clone spam. It doesn't help, as Dongtae hits the first one to try to attack the quest target.
  • Dude, Where's My Respect?: As a graduate, Samsusaeng tries to invoke senior rights on Dongtae and loses his cool when he doesn't get any. As a vandal and a dropout, he didn't really do anything to deserve that.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Samsusaeng means "failed to enter college trice" and implies to come from an online chat, but that's the name he's going by.
  • Society Is to Blame: Samsusaeng failed entrance exams and was stuck with a part-time job. He concludes that he just wasn't born in the "smart and talented" class where he could get everything he wanted.
  • Taking the Bullet: Samsusaeng shields Dawn from Eunju's furniture rain and dies in the process.

    "Hood" (Spoilers)
The second hooded figure appears during the War At School quest.
  • Anti-Villain: As Hood, she attacks the students indiscriminently while baiting Taebin out for free ammo. She has a good reason to attack Taebin, but not everyone else.
  • The Corrupter: Dawn have recruited Samsusaeng to join the War Quest. He was doing relatively okay as a part-timer, but with power he decides to lash out against the school.
  • Eaten Alive: Appears to be bitten to death by X's clones.
  • Gravity Master: One of the sub-branches of her ability is gravity manipulation.
  • In the Hood: Wears a face-obscuring hoodie. One hint that she's not Mooyoung is that Mooyoung doesn't hide his hair, and Hood is also affected by Time Pause while Mooyoung is immune.
  • Not Quite Dead: Taebin thought that Dawn was killed with the rest of the group, but she barely survived with a scarred throat and a thirst for vengeance.
  • Sarashi: Dawn wears a bandage bra under the hoodie.
  • Scars Are Forever: Dawn has the scar from Mooyoung's Neck Lift.

    Suksoon Jung
Nani's boyfriend, who's desperate to save her from cancer. He discovers Dice by accident and from then on takes increasingly dire actions to gain more Dice for her sake.
  • Anti-Villain: His only wish is for Nani to be happy, even if he has to kill innocent people for it. While Dongtae pities him and promises to help, Suksoon prefers to ensure it by winning the Final Die himself.
  • Catapult Nightmare: He has a vision that all his victims would come back at him while sleeping at the hospital.
  • Deal with the Devil: Suksoon wonders if X is Mephistopheles, as he had to kill to make Nani feel better... for a short while. When he runs out of quests, X offers joining PVP.
  • Improperly Paranoid: He's scared of other A-Dicers, as X only provided him limited info regarding PVP. Thus he attacks Dongtae, Mio and Eunju even if they had no intention to fight him. Later his Jumping Off the Slippery Slope gives a very good excuse for Eunju to take him out.
  • Haunting the Guilty: Suksoon completes amoral quests by X, which involve attacking a homeless and other Dicers, in return for a supply of Dice that keeps Nani alive despite leukemia and keeps it a secret from her. At one point he has a nightmare that all his victims came back for him.
  • Healthcare Motivation: Suksoon needs more Dice to keep Nani from dying, who isn't visited even by her parents.
  • Love Makes You Evil: He is willing to hurt others in violent quests X gives him, fine with pushing a homeless of the stairs, and engaging in PvP to steal Dice directly. He does all of this to help sustain Nani's health.
  • Moral Myopia: He's disgusted by another Dicer attacking the crowd for Dice, but when he becomes a Dicer himself, for Nani's sake, he accepts X's quest to kill a homeless for a little reward very quickly. He sinks deeper from there, even if he knows she can't be healed, and keeps complaining when others get in his way.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: He attacks Mio and Dongtae despite using their Dice to help Nani recover.

    Nani Kim
Suksoon's girlfriend, a leukemia patient who is relying on Dices he brings her to stay healthy.
  • Beyond the Impossible: Suksoon pumps Dice into her many times more her maximum HP at once. This cures her leukemia, at least until she gets any damage. Even X doesn't understand how it happened.
  • Broken Bird: Her parents do not care about her in the slightest, they won't even pay her medical bills. Because of this she sees herself as an unimportant spec of dust.
  • Parental Neglect: Being a bastard child of a CEO, Nani has never seen her father. When she gets hospitalized with leukemia, none of her family visted her, and ignore her when she recovers.
  • Taking the Bullet: In Chapter 178, she took a hit from Suksoon that was supposed to be for Dongtae.
  • Too Good for This Sinful Earth: The one unambigiously good Dicer in the webtoon and she died by her boyfriend's mistake.
  • Satellite Character: She's only present as Suksoon's Healthcare Motivation.
  • Shoot the Shaggy Dog Story: Soon after she got healed from the terminal disease, it comes back by an accident, and she learns Suksoon was lying about player-killing for her sake. And then is accidentally killed by him.

    Jieun
A new Dicer who appears after the Time Skip. She wears a medical mask becuase everyone recognizes her as the victim in an undisclosed viral video. She often tags along with Dongtae, but makes clear her motives are completely self-serving.
  • Chronic Backstabbing Disorder: Jieun is given multiple opportunities to join the heroes and fight X. More than once she agrees only because killing someone close is easier and Dongtae fails to take a hint.
  • Don't Look At Me: Jieun hides her face under a mask and body modifications because she got forced into a painful viral video of undisclosed nature and attacks everyone indiscriminately when she loses the mask. Even in the finals she considers getting a new mask instead of a weapon.
  • It's All About Me: Jieun's absolute desperation to use the Final Die to wipe everyone's memories and evidence of the video that ruined her life leads her to being willing to murder basically anyone and everyone without any sense of mercy. She does have mild guilt when she stabs Mio and tries to get Dongtae shot down with a tank, but she makes it quite clear she doesn't care about anything but obtaining the Final Die to find her freedom.
  • Nominal Hero: She's typically lumped with the protagonists by chance. Despite not intending to, and rather seeing them as enemies as well, she does help becuase she doesn't think she would defeat other Dicers by herself.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: Jieun sides with Dongtae once because other Dicers surround them and he saved her from falling. She doesn't hesitate attacking anyone, Dongtae and Mio included, the moment she thinks she has a chance.
  • Psycho Knife Nut: Jieun's preferred weapon instead of Dice abilities is a regular kitchen knife, which she uses to PK a dozen of Dicers. Even without the knife, she's not mentally okay.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Jieun is one of the last A-Rankers standing and begs Eunju to die while saving Dongtae. Eunju returns and Jieun screams hysterically.

Others

    X
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dicex.png

The "game master" of Dice. A mysterious entity who contacts Dicers from the moment they first roll a Dice, usually through phone texts. He explains the rules of Dice to them and is also the one responsible for supplying Dicers with quests, and conjuring Dice if they succeed, seemingly out of thin air. X is somewhat of a Troll in more ways than one, and as the series progress he is shown to have a very dark, sadistic side to himself.

  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: He won the Final Die meaning replacing him as the new X every time, and the ghost doll implies there were other S-rank challengers. Dawn further states that in all those times he was challenged, he defeated Mooyoung in mere moments, citing this to Suksoon that he doesn't have a chance of defeating X even if he attains S-rank.
  • Asteroids Monster: Suksoon cuts X with Time Cutter, but X turns into slime and splits into copies of himself.
  • Berserk Button: While X is usually not annoyed by anything, it appears people refusing to play his game is a trigger for him. While he doesn't show any actual anger, after Eunju told him her reasons for not wanting to play his game he created a quest targeting her. Said quest had rewards for people ripping her clothes and taking embarrassing photos of her, even to the point of causing physical injuries. X also starts targeting Dongtae when he tries to make other Dicers team-up.
  • Big Bad: He set up the current way Dice are acquired and used, and is the main antagonist of the series as a whole.
  • Blue-and-Orange Morality: X's quests are tailored to the dicer's Desire. Violent ones are rewarded for injuring others, romantic ones get dice for spending time with someone, and altruists get quests to defend someone. X doesn't feel responsible for instigating chaos in a school that was already filled with bullies.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: In reality, X is the child seen in the prologue of the story, having wished for "someone to play with me forever."
  • The Chessmaster: Frequently uses chess pieces to symbolize the players, and is skillful to create specific situation by giving individual quests. He doesn't get involved himself, but if there's something he wants to happen, there are a lot of Dicers that would do anything for a reward.
  • Control Freak: X believes he holds everyone's lives and deaths in his hands. When someone defies him or something unexpected happens, all his rules and composure go out the window.
  • The Corrupter: X gives quests to people with unfulfilled desires, and the lower the person goes, the bigger the reward. Very quickly Dongtae's school becomes the ground for everyone versus everyone willing to murder. He spends a lot of time trying to talk the heroes down from their idealism.
  • Dark Is Evil: X is presented with black speech bubbles and is an enigmatic sadist. When Jihae tries to use upgraded Clairvoyant on a Dice pop-up, she can only see a giant black flame.
  • Emoticon: X uses smileys and cat ASCII art to express emotions.
  • Enfant Terrible: When X first physically shows up, he has appearance of a small child, fitting his egoistical personality. The same abused kid at the dumps from the prologue, in fact.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: He finds the idea of a person not wanting anything about themselves changed with magic funny and annoying. He thinks the same of people not wanting to hurt others for own benefit.
  • Evil Is Petty:
    • After talking to Eunju in private and failing to convince her to roll the Dice, he increases the bounty even further to motivate the attackers.
    • X overhears Dongtae's idea to keep at least Clairvoyant users safe to prevent the ascension of an S-Ranker and gets pissed. Later he puts a huge bounty against Dongtae specifically for interrupting students attacking the principal, who he've tagreted just out of boredom. After Dongtae proposes own challenge, X sets as the price for possible failure him and friends tortured and raped.
    • For the final quest he plans to remove half of the Dicers each week until there's last one standing. Once someone brings up there's not an even number, he kills them right there and considers the issue solved.
  • For the Evulz: X puts a sudden quest to punch the school principal just because he finds his speech boring. Dongtae stopping the students makes X put a hit on him instead.
  • Friendly Enemy: X acts like an annoying friend to Dongtae even if they are enemies, as long as he likes his ambition.
  • Game Master: He sees himself as a game host and is very protective of the rules he sets forth, made easier by the way those rules seem to be magically enforced. He can also be dangerous if anyone attempts to "hack the game". He also didn't create the Dice and Dongtae figures he's just an unhinged Killer Game Master. Turns out it to be a side-effect of his wish to have someone "to play with" and he is stuck Lonely at the Top.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: X is too childish and agressive to operate own game consistently, prone to radically changing the rules whenever something upsets him. Che-Hyun gives him a Rubik's Cube, and even after the explanation, X just breaks the cube apart out of frustration and asks to bring another one. He does solve it and hates it now because he understands how it works.
  • Humans Are Insects: X bluntly calls humans bugs that exist to be squashed for his amusement. Anyone who doesn't fall under this view are to be painfully removed. When asked, he outright says his toy robot is more valuable than anyone's lives.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: The core of X's problem. He wished to have someone to play with, but Mooyoung isn't his friend. Once Dongtae asks him to join the challenge in person, X gets a Heel Realization that it's what he should have done in the first place.
  • I Lied: X makes Che-Hyun an NPC by his request. He can't be attacked, but also can't participate. Mooyoung fatally injures Che-Hyun and X reminds him that his "promise" wasn't a rule.
  • Immortality Immorality: The Final Die asks a child his wish, which is to have someone to play with him forever. This turned the kid into an immortal and immature Jerkass X.
  • It Amused Me: He does whatever he wants because he loves chaos. However, if the heroes propose a challenge, he changes its mind and gives minimal assistance to see them try.
  • Jackass Genie: X's quests reflect the Dicer's desire and give exactly as promised, however the rewards usually either provide less benefits than believed or require sacrificing more than they worth.
  • Killer Game Master: He is the GM of the Dice, and regularly gets Dicers killed either by making them fight each other or by making up games with death penalies. It's because he can't attack a player directly.
  • Literal Split Personality: When he became the Game Master, he was split into two forms; the first being the X and the second taking on the form of the Ancient Die.
  • Manipulative Bastard:
    • He gives Byungchul and Dongtae quests at school, knowing that the former will take it and the latter will not. Byungchul dies and kickstarts the rest of the plot, and Dongtae is ridden with guilt for not saving him.
    • He puts a bounty on Eunju for defying him and effectively turns the entire school into his unwitting hitmen. He uses a similar tactic a lot if he wants someone hurt in particular.
  • Mysterious Benefactor: X can contact any Dicer as long as there's any electronic device nearby and teleport new Dice when quests are completed. For the most of the manhwa nothing about them is known.
  • Orcus on His Throne: Subverted. He doesn't physically appear in front of the players until the "final round", but still actively maintains contact and manipulates them on several occasions. When Dongtae proposes and wins his own quest in order to fight him early, it nearly became a Hopeless Boss Fight.
  • Physical God: X can do much more than deliver the Dice. Rather, he can do whatever he wants to any Dicer or all Dicers at once and in a direct confrontation his abilities are only limited by his imagination.
  • Purple Is Powerful: His speech and text always have a purple outline. In addition, he is often accompanied by a purple aura wherever he goes.
  • Troll: Absolutely relishes in messing with people, deliberately making insensitive remarks when people are not in the mood.
  • Troubling Unchildlike Behavior: Before becoming X, the child has concluded that the world has abandoned him, and starts squishing ants to prove that he has something to control. He carried on with this philosophy after becoming a god.
  • Screw the Rules, I Make Them!: As Game Master, he promises to always follow own rules. However, he can cancel and invent new ones whenever he feels like.

    Ancient Die (Spoilers)
X's other half, condensed into an ever-changing, ever-growing die, formed when X was split in two when he made his wish before the events of DICE even started. He's a polar opposite to the "Game master" version of X. Dongtae acquires him as an S-item reward in the Random Machine.
  • Deus ex Machina: Twice the Ancient Die manifests, it's to prevent Dongtae from dying and letting him Set Right What Once Went Wrong.
  • Helpless Good Side: He's a more rational and empathic side of X who was turned into a premium item and was hidden in the back of the gacha machine rewards.
  • Light Is Good: Ancient's humanoid form takes the appearance of a white, glowing X. In addition, his speech bubbles have a white background, as opposed to X's black.
  • Literal Split Personality: Was formed when X was split into two halves.
  • Shapeshifting: The number of faces on his physical Dice form will increase in accordance to how much desire he has consumed.
  • Time Master: It's effectively an upgrade to Dongtae's Time Pause, giving him a new tree of time-related abilities.
  • Wild Card: As much as it's more humanized than X and helps Dongtae, it deliberately let him use Time Rewind many times without giving any advice he could have, so this would completely heal X.
