Izuku was born with a Quirk, just not the kind of Quirk he wanted, or the kind that was liked by those around him; now he has to find his place among the heroes, with a curse that seems fit for the darkest villain.

Cursed Blood is a My Hero Academia fanfiction by Magnus9284 where Izuku has a complex regeneration quirk with a few... darker applications.

  • Accidental Pervert:
    • Katsuki walks in on the topless Spider Person Konno, who was disassociating to the point that she didn't realize he came into their shared room. To Katsuki's credit, he immediately ran out and refused to go back in until their handler managed to snap her out of it.
    • A lot of boys caught a brief glimpse of Mina's breast when she suffered a Wardrobe Malfunction during her match with Kirishima. Female friends with crushes on them really really didn't like that fact one bit.
    • When Itsuka and Momo fight, Itsuka accidentally grabs one of Momo's breasts while pinning her down against the floor. Then Momo knees her between the legs and the reaction is... not painful.
  • Adaptational Badass: Mei, instead of using her first tournament fight to show off her babies as merchandise, shows them off by fighting Tokoyami, who does end up having to make an effort to win.
  • Adaptational Intelligence: While Izuku wasn't an idiot in canon, here he is so smart that Nedzu is considering him to be his successor. He gawks at the written portion of the school's entrance exam for how "short" it is (100 questions, 25 mathematical inquiries, and an essay, the essay itself winning awards), he figures out who Aizawa is much quicker than in canon, he creates extensive and highly accurate dossiers on all of his classmate's Quirks only after a day's exposure to them, records an in-depth description of the USJ incident good enough to be used for the authority's investigation, he correctly deduces that Saki's father was involved in the downfall of SEELE with only the smallest amount of evidence given to him while investigating the murder and was able to engineer an effective USJ-esque scenario for Class 1-B at Nedzu's request. The only thing that keeps him humble about his genius is his massive reserves of self-doubt and a society of Quirkists ready to assume the worst of him.
  • Adaptational Jerkass:
    • Katsuki Bakugo, while far from a saint in canon, at least learned from his own mistakes and losses and is slowly loosening up. Here his main target of bullying was a regenerator that healed from just about anything, removing his need to at least have some moderation when using his Quirk, combined with the school looking away because "no injuries were found on the alleged victim" causes him to check more than a few boxes for being a sociopath, complete with Lack of Empathy and Never My Fault tendencies which nearly resulted in Asui getting killed. After being sent to a correction center and meeting Konno, though, he's slowly getting better... Maybe.
    • Ochaco Uraraka, while still a Nice Girl, turns into a bit of a Gold Digger when she learns of Izuku's Quirk, considering him a potential vehicle to end her family's economic woes and wishes he would let the zombie girls go.
    • While Minoru Mineta was an unlikable pervert in canon, he was mostly just a harmless Joke Character. Here he actually attempts to rape an escort and gets expelled from school and blacklisted from the hero industry altogether for it.
    • Mashirao Ojiro has a knee-jerk hatred for Izuku because of the mind-controlling aspects of his quirk (thus technically making it a form of Quirkism) since he once saw his own martial arts sensei dishonored by a mind-controller.
    • Ibara Shiozaki antagonizes Izuku the moment she meets him, seeing him as evil for using his Quirk to resurrect the dead.
    • Endeavor. As soon as he learns about Izuku, he begins to plan on how to get him to impregnate Fuyumi, his own daughter, and then have Shoto breed with the resulting child, just to get a new "creation" that could surpass All Might. And when All Might warns him that Shoto almost killing another student could see him expelled, all Endeavor thinks is that anyone complaining about "his masterpiece's" power is a wuss. Also, it is heavily implied that he's killed QRA agents in the past just for getting in his way.
    • While Shoto Todoroki telling his Dark and Troubled Past was tragic in-canon, here, when he tells Izuku, Tsuyu, and Tokoyami, it comes across as insensitive Wangst coming from a Spoiled Brat who has never experienced real hardship, especially since he was born with a flashy quirk in a rich family with connections, while they suffered intense societal discrimination for having Mutation-type and "villainous" quirks. The real clincher was when he claimed that Lily wouldn't know anything about tragedy and hardship. Even if he didn't know that she was sold by her abusive stepmother to a bunch of rich pedophiles who raped her to death, the fact that Izuku had to resurrect her - a dead child - as part of a highly-publicized criminal case just shows his tunnel vision.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul:
    • Izuku never becomes All Might's successor, so their relationship never goes beyond teacher and student.
    • Fumikage becomes Izuku's first friend in U.A., due to their "Dark" Quirks.
    • Izuku and Tsuyu become a couple early in the school year.
    • Kyoka befriends Izuku and develops a crush on him for saving her life. She later gets over it and dates Fumikage.
    • Ochaco and Tenya are not as friendly with Izuku as in canon because of their inherent distrust for his Quirk. While they do become friendly later on, it is not as deep.
    • Similarly, Ochaco's potential relationship with Izuku goes down the drain because she did a runner when she found Izuku's Quirk and didn't exactly gain points with her subconscious desire that he would get rid of them. In the end, she gets together with Tenya.
    • Mei meets Izuku earlier than in canon and becomes friends with him.
    • Kinoko Komori was in the same kindergarten class as Izuku, and they were friendly until peer pressure led her to stop relating with him. Fortunately, he is willing to forgive her and become friends with her when she apologises for this.
    • Eijiro and Mina get together after she confesses (and flashes him) after their tournament match.
  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg:
    • Mitsuki begs Nedzu not to expel Katsuki as with the attempted murder charges, Katsuki would have no chance to get into any other school and no future. Seeing his Amazon of a mom actually beg disturbs Katsuki.
    • Tenya actually puts himself in the dogeza position to beg Izuku to heal his brother Tensei.
  • The Alcatraz: Villainously Obscure & Indefinitely Detained, Heavy Environmental Last Line Prison is so feared that one criminal BEGS to become Izuku’s slave rather than go there.
  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: When Mitsuki first meets Junko Konno, instead of being appalled by her appearance or wondering why Katsuki wants to take her with him once he's out of Seireitei, her first response is to ask (loudly) how Katsuki got a girlfriend before going on a tangent about how they need to make the house bigger for all the babies... in Seireitei's mess hall... when it was being used.
    Mitsuki: HOW IN THE FLYING FUCK DID YOU MANAGE TO LAND SUCH A CUTIE YOU BRAT?!
  • An Offer You Can't Refuse: Izuku's first internship offer is to work with the Jaegers. Unfortunately, everything else on the list would be worse: four of the offers come from the medical industry (where Izuku would likely be experimented on), the other two are from the JSDF and Tartarus (neither of which are known to let the students they pick go), and staying at home would be useless, since all the teachers are going to be working on patrols and Aizawa is explicitly forbidden from picking Izuku for an internship, meaning he would have to intern with Recovery Girl (which would also lead to experimentation and force him in close contact with Takeo Go).
  • Anger Born of Worry: Tsuyu, Inko and Beru make sure to read Izuku the riot act for the way he risked himself during the fight against Todoroki.
  • Aren't You Going to Ravish Me?: After their tournament fight, Mina asks Eijiro if she saw her after her Wardrobe Malfunction. He honestly says no... and she gets angry because she did want him to see her. She proceeds to flash him.
  • Asshole Victim: The Trigger-producing gang members deserve everything the Jaegers throw at them, particularly considering how they produce the drug...
  • Back from the Dead: Izuku's blood can bring the recently dead back to life as sentient zombies.
  • Bad Powers, Good People: Izuku's Quirk, "Cursed Blood", has multiple less-than-savory qualities. In Chapter 1, he turns a recent corpse into a zombie. Later, he learns that someone with his blood inside them is at least partially under his control. It's deconstructed, though, in that a lot of the prejudice comes from how people perceive his powers rather than his actions or their intent. It causes him a lot of grief that his mother, Tsuyu, and others do their best to help him recover from.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Most of Class 1-B wanted a chance to prove themselves as good as Class 1-A. They got one... and realized how completely unprepared they were for the role.
  • Beautiful Dreamer: During Chapter 30's second Omake, Tae watches Izuku sleep, both out of love for him and to protect him.
  • Behavioral Conditioning: When Bakugo tries attacking Izuku for acing the ball toss on the first-day exercises, Aizawa could not help but notice that Izuku wouldn't even so much as flinch away from the intended blow, recognizing that Izuku has been conditioned not to fight back against aggression. He would eventually find out that their middle school would let Izuku be bullied since there was "no lasting damage" and would punish Izuku if he defended himself because it would have made Bakugo look bad, making sure that Bakugo's record was as clean as possible to better his chances of becoming a hero.
  • Beware the Nice Ones:
    • Lily is a sweet girl who adores Izuku and likes pretty things...until trouble comes and people are reminded that she is still a zombie that can bite off a person's fingers and wreck any people with Emitter Quirks by shouting at them - a Quirk that she has technically no limit of usage, unlike when she was still alive.
    • Toru is a sweet, expressive invisible woman who, during the USJ Incident, not only choked several villains but wrecked the arm of one who had taken Ojiro hostage.
    • While Nedzu is a really nice bear-rat-like creature that exemplifies Putting the "Pal" in Principal, when people try to meddle with his students he can be truly terrifying.
  • Big Eater: Momo has to eat roughly triple the amount of food the average person would just to avoid starving.
    • Izuku as well, as Cursed Blood's Healing Factor requires him to eat a lot, especially when he suffers grievous injuries.
  • Boring, but Practical: Endeavor tries to simply get a semen sample from Izuku to get Fuyumi pregnant when it becomes clear he can't get Izuku to marry Fuyumi.
  • Bothering by the Book: The Board of Representatives try everything they can to handicap Izuku for the Sports Festival out of Quirkism, and then have the gall to make him choose someone else to speak as First Year Representative, which Izuku earned by having the most points in the Entrance Exam. Feeling vindictive, he chooses Iida, who proceeds to give a ten-minute long speech that, while passionate, bores everyone to tears. Even Tsuyu, who is on Izuku's side in this, thinks it was a little much.
  • Boxing Battler: Izuku uses a Dempsey roll on Bakugo, the force of which concusses him.
  • Break the Haughty: The fake villain attack on 1-B is done to prove to them that they aren't ready for a real villain attack and how one is incredibly hard and terrifying.
  • Call-Back: During Chapter 1, Izuku saves a girl from being killed by jumping on the would-be killer and taking the hit for her, and the girl ran away in the meantime. Chapter 16 reveals that it was Jiro, who has been trying to come up with the courage to reveal the truth to Izuku ever since the beginning of the school year - which she does during the Sports Festival.
  • Character Development: Izuku grows from hating himself and his Quirk, always expecting people to react negatively, to acknowledging he has a great Quirk and people react negatively not because he's a terrible person, but because of their own prejudice.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The Trigger variant that Konno was forcefully injected with is the same type produced by the gang Izuku hunts during his internship with the Jaegers.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Hagakure and Shiozaki really really didn't like it when their crushes caught a glimpse of Mina's breasts.
  • Clueless Chick-Magnet: Not counting his Battle Harem of zombies, any girl who isn't intimidated by the connotations of Izuku's quirk clearly has a crush on him. Tsu becomes his girlfriend after he saves her life, Ochaco is visibly saddened that she lost her chance with him, and Jiro admits to finding him attractive when she realized that he saved her life in the past.
  • Combat Sadomasochist: With the tenacity of Izuku's Healing Factor, many of his fighting strategies usually involve exhausting his opponents or getting a better reach at their weak points using Deliberate Injury Gambits.
  • Condescending Compassion: During their fight at the tournament, Ibara tells Izuku she wants to "help" him achieve redemption.
  • Covert Pervert: Momo frequently reads smut books (according to Saki, at least).
  • Crossover: Multiple girls from Zombie Land Saga show up in the story. Later on, it's revealed SEELE, the BSAA and the Umbrella Corporation all exist as well.
  • Cruel to Be Kind: Nedzu puts all of Class 1-B through a terrifying scenario where they are captured by villains and forced to fight, in order to force them to accept that being pro-heroes is a very dangerous profession that none of them are yet ready for.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: The Sports Festival sees several instances of this.
    • Izuku vs Shinso. Shinso catches Izuku with his Quirk, but Cursed Blood allows Izuku to No-Sell the control part and Tae can easily knock him around. When Izuku recovers, he has Tae drop Shinso and give him time to recover - and as soon as Shinso is ready, Tae grabs him and drags him out of bounds.
    • Ojiro vs Shiozaki. Shiozaki grabs Ojiro with her Vines, making it impossible for him to get close to her and fight her before she (at Midnight's behest) drops him out of the ring.
    • Ochaco vs Tsuyu. Tsuyu not only has far more practice with her Quirk, since Mutation Quirks are functionally always on but also far more experience with hand-to-hand combat (because of Quirkism-induced bullying forcing her to defend herself). Though, Ochaco manages to almost win with her Desperation Attack.
  • Curb Stomp Cushion: Kyouka gets frozen by Todoroki, but she manages to blast him with her sound burst and was close to getting into punching distance.
  • Cuteness Overload: Momo truly cannot help herself when she is near Lily.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Oooh, boy...
    • Izuku's bullying was ramped up just because his Quirk was considered freakish and dark.
    • Tae was sold as a Sex Slave and was shot when she finally managed to run away from her sex-trafficking ring. Even after her death, people don't care about bringing her killers and torturers to justice because she was a Quirkless nobody.
    • Lily's Wicked Stepmother sold her to a paedo group which wound up killing her when they played it too rough, all because she wanted to drive Lily's father into killing himself so she could steal the technology he has created.
    • Eraserhead and Ms. Joke were a couple until a pair of villains attacked them so brutally that he lost a rib and she lost a child and the ability to get pregnant again. Aizawa stopped his relationship with her out of shame and later went on a Roaring Rampage of Revenge against those villains, with only Interpol's intervention saving him from losing his hero license.
  • Darker and Edgier: The fic draws heavier emphasis on the kind of harsh realities certain people would have in a world where Everyone Is a Super, including individual and systematic accounts of racism against people whose Quirks make them look different (Mutation-types) and the kind of powers one would traditionally assume belonged to supervillains. It also includes elements of child abuse (both by parents and the educational system), neglect, bullying, graphic violence, murder, pedophilia, etc.
  • Date Peepers: Tokoyami and Jirou follow Izuku and Tsuyu on their first date, wanting to make sure the date will be uninterrupted.
  • Death Glare:
    • When the therapist working with Tsuyu comments that she does not see Izuku as leader material, Tsuyu gives her a cold glare that makes the therapist flinch and struggle not to waver.
    • Ibara sends one to Shishida after Mina's Wardrobe Malfunction - emphasized by her not blinking for four minutes straight.
    • Izuku at Ibara after she tries to kill Saki for the sake of "helping him redeem himself".
    • After Endeavor's actions against Izuku during the tournament, All-Might's scowl causes the man's flames to sputter out.
    • When Todoroki tries to confront Tsuyu after she forfeits their match, Midnight freezes him in place with a single glare.
  • Defeat by Modesty: In the Ashido vs. Kirishima fight, after Mina's Wardrobe Malfunction she runs away in shame - but Eijiro immediately forfeits the fight.
  • Description Cut: Ojiro thinks to himself that Shiozaki is a "complete non-threat" before their match. The story immediately cuts to Shiozaki calmly asking him to surrender, having bound him in her vines.
  • Didn't Think This Through:
  • Disposable Sex Worker:
    • Tae's murder is largely ignored by officials due to her being Quirkless. It takes Izuku demanding it in exchange for aiding in Lily's murder investigation before it is taken seriously.
    • Averted with the escort Mineta hires. When she refuses to have sex with him, he uses his Quirk to stick her to a wall and rips off her dress before being spotted by a passing Tsukauchi. Mineta's arrested for sexual harassment and assault, and the whole case is treated very seriously.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Izuku gets back at Katsuki for a decade of physical and verbal bullying by calling him out and defeating him in the Battle Trial. Katsuki is so furious that he attempts to murder Izuku by blowing up the building he's in.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: Momo's obsession with cuddling with Lily looks like a drug addiction.
    • The racism or discrimination hierarchy in this story is very similar to colourism in Latin America.
  • Don't Celebrate Just Yet: During their match, Ochaco manages to hit Tsuyu with her Quirk and throw her out of bounds, but takes her eyes off Tsuyu too soon and the frog girl snags her with her tongue to reel herself back into the ring.
  • Double Standard: The spectators at the Sports Festival cheered for Shoto freezing Kyoka in a massive glacier yet are upset with Izuku and Saki for trash-talking and punching Shiozaki in the face. Present Mic even suggests Izuku punching Shiozaki is somehow illegal, which Aizawa calls him out on.
  • Dramatic Irony: Endeavor plots to force Fuyumi to marry Izuku and/or have a child from him...not knowing that Fuyumi already has a boyfriend, is planning to marry him, and is already pregnant.
  • Dramatically Missing the Point: When All Might points out to Endeavor that Shoto nearly killed a classmate because of his lack of restraint, all Endeavor cares about is that it proves Shoto is superior and that anyone who cannot handle it should just quit. Not even All Might warning him that another mishap could see Shoto being expelled from U.A. and sent to a program for Quirks that require special control methods makes him realize how screwed up the situation is.
  • The Dreaded: Interpol's Spooks are rightly feared because of their spying skills.
    • Then there's Interpol's Jaegers, a group of people so mysterious that Izuku (who is a veritable fountain of knowledge) can't find anything about them - except a footnote that "started and ended with the word, "RUN," written in blood".
    • And, on top of that, stands the BSAA, which are pretty much capable and willing of razing entire countries at the first sign of biological weaponry being planned.
  • Dude, Not Funny!: Kaminari joking that Tokoyami would need to find a girlfriend really into bestiality was not well-received. Even he felt bad for saying it.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Magne brutally kills Ichigo when the woman's crimes against Lily are brought to light. Given that Magne gets a spiked bat through a warp gate, it is implied Kurogiri supported this.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • Nearly all of Class 1-A was appalled at Kaminari (even himself) for making a tasteless bestiality joke on Tokoyami's looks.
    • For all of his irrational hatred of Izuku, Bakugo is no Quirkist, as proven in his interactions with Junko Konno.
    • QRA agent Nyanta tells Endeavor off for threatening Izuku, and states that if he keeps trying, he will get his Hero License revoked at best.
    • Heaven Canceller initially sees Izuku as a sort of living panacea after he heals Tensei Iida, but immediately chides himself for the thought, reminding himself that Izuku is a living person who deserves respect and privacy.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: As far as Endeavor is concerned, Beru Asui is manipulating Izuku in order to breed his Quirk into her family, because it is exactly what he is trying to do. It never comes through his head that Beru may actually like Izuku as his daughter's boyfriend. Though he is right in that Beru wants the marriage to be arranged, while Endeavor's motivations are born purely out of ambition and personal desire, she wants the marriage to be arranged because her family is from a line of mutant Quirks that, in the Quirkist hierarchy, are just above the "dark" Quirks, so anyone that wants to be romantically involved with them is someone they want to keep, as Quirkism can make finding a partner hard for them.
    • Then, when he corners Izuku to demand he marry Fuyumi, he thinks that Izuku is rejecting the offer because he fears a potential retaliation from the Asuis, not understanding that Izuku is in love with Tsuyu and could not give less of a damn for what Endeavor could offer him.
  • Exact Words: After the fake villain attack on Class 1-B, the students realize that they were told in advance what was going to happen, just in a way they wouldn't realize they were being warned about a villain attack.
  • Fantastic Ableism/Fantastic Racism:
    • Not only is Quirklessness despised, but Mutant Quirks are also shunned for not being as powerful as Emitter Quirks. And if your Quirk has "Dark" connotations, you are toast. Tsuyu's parents actually specialize in lawsuits for Quirk discrimination, it gets so bad.
    • The Quirkist hierarchy goes like this: on top are the Emitter Quirks (example: Bakugo's Explosion), followed by Transformation Quirks (example: Kirishima's Harden), then the Mutant Quirks (example: Tsuyu's Frog) then are the "dark" Quirks in the same order, so first is "dark" Emitter Quirks (example: Fumikage's Dark Shadow), "dark" Transformation Quirks (none in story, yet) and finally at the absolute rock bottom are the "dark" Mutant Quirks (example: Izuku's Cursed Blood).
    • During the Sports Festival, the various sponsors of U.A. put pressure on the school regarding various students. Several students with less flashy Quirks are basically crippled by being denied support items they need for their Quirks to work* . By contrast, Aoyama is allowed his focusing belt with no restrictions at all. Izuku lampshades that the ones in charge aren't even trying to appear impartial.
      • Then, at the Tournament, someone manipulates the drawing to ensure that the "favorites" (presumably Iida, Todoroki, Yaoyorozu, and Shiozaki, all of whom have Emitter or "heroic" Quirks) won't meet until the semifinals while setting up those with Mutation or Transformation Quirks so they will lose as soon as possible.
    • This works in Izuku's favor once, because the doctor who checked his Quirk and the QRA ignored or downplayed the actual power Izuku's Quirk had due to their racism - meaning that All For One never learned about what Izuku could really do until he resurrected Tae, making it impossible to kidnap him due to the many people watching out for him.
  • Final Solution: SEELE was founded with the goal of eradicating anyone they didn't consider a normal human, even claiming they would unleash missiles filled with a virus that would target anyone with the Quirk factor gene.
  • Foreshadowing: Beru Asui thinks about how Izuku may become a target for those who want to use his Quirk. Over ten chapters later, in comes Endeavor and All For One...
  • For Want Of A Nail:
    • A very good argument can be made here regarding this for multiple characters. Because Izuku's Quirk lets him heal injuries with no trouble, Bakugo loses any moderation or restraint for himself, making him WORSE than canon.
    • Because Bakugo gets expelled, Shoto has no one to compare himself and consider improvement and is now basically following in his father's footsteps.
    • The Cavalry Battle teams are completely different from those formed in canon due to the different friendships and outlooks. Similarly, the tournament has (for the most part) different fights.
    • In-Universe: During Tetsutetsu vs. Iida, the latter nearly wins, but when he moves to make the winning kick, his glasses suddenly break due to a hairline fracture growing because of the G-forces he's subjected to, making him miss by a few centimeters.
  • Fountain of Youth: When Izuku uses his blood on his mother when she is hospitalized from a heart attack, not only does the blood heal all the damage the heart attack did, but it actually improves her health and makes her 15 years younger. It is implied that what is "healed" was not only the heart attack but the long-term effects of childbirth.
    Inko had undergone a metamorphosis. Where once the single mother could've been safely described as homely and plump, now anyone who didn't already know the woman would've been hard-pressed to believe she'd ever borne a child at all!
    It was incredible. It was unbelievable.
    It was maddening!
  • Fourth-Date Marriage: Downplayed. While they don't get married (obviously), it is only a few days after they first meet before Izuku and Tsuyu are officially dating, and they pretty much get engaged during the Sports Festival.
  • Freudian Excuse: One of the reasons Mashirao Ojiro hates Izuku's Quirk is because his master lost her title to a challenger that used a control Quirk to use a student as a shield, and fears Izuku might end up doing something similar in the future. He also dislikes Hitoshi's Brainwashing for similar reasons.
  • Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse:
    • Ichigo was prostituted by her father so he could build up his business network. After killing him, she establishes herself as an industrial spy whose latest work is to steal Takeo Gō's work - which she plots by seducing the man, marrying him, and then getting his only child killed so he will commit suicide.
    • After learning Todoroki's Dark and Troubled Past, Izuku and his friends point out that not only do several of them have worse lives, but he's acting just like his father whom he claims to hate. It's also pointed out that most of Todoroki's suffering is self-imposed. While his father is an abusive Jerkass, Shoto himself is praised for his powerful Quirk and family connections, whereas the likes of Izuku, Tsuyu, and Tokoyami are shunned for their Quirks.
  • The Fundamentalist:
    • Downplayed, but Ibara's problems with Izuku are based on her religious beliefs that his zombie-making is unholy and enslavement of the deceased. She only acts on her religious beliefs in regards to Izuku, but he's a special case.
    • There's also a mention of a religious group threatening to boycott U.A. when Izuku's Quirk is revealed to the public. Nezu sensibly pays little mind to them.
  • Godzilla Threshold: If the BSAA has to intervene in a situation, it's because things have really gone to hell in a handbasket.
  • Good Thing You Can Heal: Izuku takes a lot of punishment that he only survives due to his Quirk. This includes gunshots, losing a limb at least once, and a building collapsing on him.
  • Gratuitous Russian: As part of his villain disguise for Class 1-B's USJ-like event, Izuku uses a few Russian words.
  • The Greatest Story Never Told: All Might barged into the world superhero scene by singlehandedly stopping a missile crisis. He actually was helped by a CIA agent identified as "Roy" who asked for his involvement to be kept secret and discreetly retired to become a mechanic and have a daughter, Saki.
  • Healing Hands: It takes him a while, but Izuku learns how to use his blood to heal others. He successfully saves Tsuyu's life this way, and later heals Inko after she suffers a heart attack.
  • Heel Realization: Vlad King rips into his students after Monoma asks how 1-A were able to come out of the USJ attack unscathed while 1-B was taken down by five proctors in a training session, causing them to realise how irrational their jealousy of 1-A is, especially since they got a chance to prove themselves and failed miserably.
    Vlad King: UNSCATHED?! You all know who this is, right?!
    (points to a picture of Midoriya on the screen behind him, after which the class hesitantly nods)
    Vlad King: And you all were given the official statement regarding his involvement in the USJ incident?!
    (Class 1-B nods again)
    Vlad King: He was the only casualty, but that sure as hell isn't the full story. This 'unscathed student' lost a foot, ruptured nearly every major organ in his body, and most of his bones were broken or shattered. His efforts nearly killed him. Izuku Midoriya suffered all of this while coming to the aid of All Might as the Symbol of Peace faced off against a bioengineered super soldier.
    (Class 1-B start thinking to themselves My God, What Have I Done?)
    Vlad King: And before any of you go thinking he has it easy due to being a regenerator, you should know that Midoriya-san feels every ounce of pain an injury incurs. Try to remember that the next time you feel like picking a fight with him.
  • Her Boyfriend's Jacket: After Mina loses her top in the fight against Eijiro, the latter gives her his own shirt for the next fight. In between both events, she has flashed him and quite likely got him as her boyfriend.
  • Heroic BSoD:
    • Aizawa has one when Izuku brings Lily to class, recognizing her as a girl he vowed to protect, only to discover that she had been raped and murdered. He gives his class a study period and leaves, Midnight finding him in a Troubled Fetal Position in the stairwell.
    • After his team "mutinies" under him during the Cavalry Battle (not wanting to deal with a risky maneuver as going after Dark Shadow, as Todoroki intends), Todoroki spends the entire battle in shock, barely noticing anything as the others keep putting headbands on him until the last siren sounds out.
    • Todoroki again, after the final fight against Izuku. Causing Izuku to suffer injuries that would have been lethal against anyone else make him shut down and beg Nezu for help with his problems.
  • Heroic RRoD: After his victory against Tetsutetsu, Izuku collapses as his Quirk cannibalizes his body's fat reserves and enhanced muscles in order to repair the damage to his vital organs caused during the fight.
  • Hidden Depths: Tooru's cheerfulness at the beginning of the year is partly an attempt to imitate Mina in order to bond with her, but after the USJ Incident she drops this, because she does not know who she truly is, and has a hard time trying to find the answer.
  • High-Class Call Girl:
    • Mineta, Sero, and Kaminari visit an escort service at the edge of the red-light district* . While Sero and Kaminari pay attention to the rules they're given and simply go on dates, Mineta refuses to take no for an answer and tries to rape his escort.
    • Meanwhile, Detective Tsukauchi is in a relationship with that same escort service's owner, who helps girls come out of bad situations by offering them a job and ensuring they can eventually, if they want, leave the service when they find something better.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: During her fight with Kirishima, Ashido keeps getting her clothes damaged as the acid she throws at him gets thrown back at her.
  • Hollywood Restraining Order: Bakugo is given one that amounts to not being allowed in the same prefecture as Tsuyu, Izuku, and Tenya, barring hero work and special events.
  • Holy Burns Evil: Shiozaki attempts this against Izuku by soaking her vines in holy water before their match. It has no effect at all.
  • Horrifying Hero: The Jaegers are described as monsters unleashed to destroy other monsters.
  • Hot for Teacher: Ojiro is in love with his master, Lady Wu. She seems to return those feelings in some way.
  • Human Resources: One of the ingredients of Trigger (the version Izuku and Shinso help track, at least) is stem cells extracted from human fetuses.
  • Hyperactive Metabolism: Izuku's Quirk allows him to digest food at an impressive rate, particularly when he needs to heal himself - after the Sports Festival, he ends up eating three entire pizzas in ten minutes without a hint of discomfort.
  • Hypocrite: The public at the Sports Festival. For example, in one instance, they cheer when Todoroki freezes Jiro even though it clearly nearly killed her, but later those same people boo at Saki trash-talking Ibara and then Izuku punching her.
  • I Reject Your Reality: While canon!Bakugo was a narcissist and had trouble coping with the real world, Cursed Blood!Bakugo's delusions of grandeur goes so far as to paint himself as the next All Might and Izuku as the next great and terrible supervillain just waiting to show his true colors regardless of their mutually-contrary actions. This only gets worse after he witnesses Izuku saving a courtroom judge's life on live television and being called a hero for it, claiming that since he has no intention of becoming the villain, then Izuku has to be a villain to validate his worldview and that Izuku will only admit his "true nature" and "be held accountable for the things he's done" if he pushes him into it.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Todoroki ends up doing this (more or less by accident) to Izuku during the tournament's final match.
  • Inertia Is a Cruel Mistress: When Tetsutetsu tackles Izuku in an attempt to push him off the ring, Izuku makes a move to turn them around and push himself towards the center of the ring, forcing Tetsutetsu out.
  • Insane Troll Logic: Many civilians and some Pro Heroes believe that Emitter Quirks are naturally superior to all others, even when it's blatantly obvious that a particular Quirk is relatively weak. When Ochaco fights Tsuyu, they insist that Ochaco naturally will win easily even though she has had no training of any sort before attending U.A. while Tsuyu has months of physical training and over a decade of practice with her Quirk.
  • Intelligible Unintelligible: Tae cannot speak save groans and noises, but she can be understood just fine by Izuku and anyone who has been affected by Izuku's blood.
  • It's All About Me:
    • Bakugo is the most prominent example. He wholeheartedly believes he will be the next Number One hero, has no problem attacking anyone who proves to be better than him, and nearly murdered Tsuyu and Tenya when he attacked Izuku just because he defeated him in a training battle.
    • Todoroki reveals his Dark and Troubled Past to Izuku as the reason why he wants to win the Sports Festival. Izuku's friends point out to him that, while it's true that his childhood was really bad, he's never had to face the real discrimination people with "dark" Quirks have suffered. When Tsuyu decides to forfeit their match since she cannot trust he won't do the same he did in his match with Kyouka, what he cares the most about is that he's being denied a chance to prove he can win without using his Quirk. And when he does defeat Momo by first using martial arts and then freezing her arm, all he gives a damn about is that Aizawa is pointing out that Momo was clearly weakened instead of praising his strength.
      • He gets it from his father, Endeavor, who only cares about him or a descendant of his being the one to beat All Might and become the #1 Pro. Anything else (such as other people's health or feelings) is pushed aside.
  • Jabba Table Manners: Momo apparently "eats like a pig" regarding both how much she eats and how messily, such as scarfing down three triple cheeseburgers in a couple minutes as an appetizer.
  • Karma Houdini Warranty: Katsuki bullied and abused Izuku since they were four and their previous school allowed it. When Katsuki goes too far and nearly murders Izuku, with Tenya hurt and Tsuyu mortally wounded in the crossfire, UA throws the book at him. Katsuki is sentenced to a months-long stay in a juvenile mental institution and charged with Assault and three counts of Attempted Murder. While Katsuki manages to avoid expulsion with the skin of his teeth, he is kicked out of the Hero Course and dropped to General Education - and later accepts a deal that gets him expelled from U.A. in exchange for a reduced stay in the institution and being allowed to join another Hero Course.
  • Kick The Son Of A Bitch: Magne brutally murders Ichigo when she learns how she got Lily killed.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: The CEO of the company that got the contract to make Izuku's Hero costume thought they'd be able to get away with making a suit that didn't even cover half of the specifications and then rake in the money and fame for making something for a U.A. student. When, after the suit gets destroyed, Izuku just takes up Mei's version, said CEO, instead of apologizing and making restitution for the shoddy work, chose to file a lawsuit against Izuku for "breach of contract". Cue U.A.'s lawyers slamming the company with a countersuit that utterly ruins the company.
  • Longer-Than-Life Sentence: Ichigo is sentenced to two hundred years in prison for all her crimes, including the sex-trafficking and murder of her step-child Lily. Not that it matters much, since she was quickly murdered by Magne, who was a big fan of Lily and was outraged by what happened to her.
  • Loophole Abuse: During the Sports Festival, Izuku is heavily restricted in his zombie usage: they can only help in the third round, and even then, only one at a time and never the same in consecutive rounds. However, Izuku (and later Aizawa) realizes that the wording of the deal could be interpreted as him only being allowed to bring each of the girls once in total, as the Board likely expects him to attempt to bring one of the girls at least twice, allowing them to nullify Izuku's potential victory on a technicality.
  • Love Triangle: Downplayed. Both Ochaco and Tsuyu develop an attraction to Izuku, but Tsuyu is the one to get him first (although Ochaco may have "won" if it hadn't been for her prejudice). While she is quick to accept that there is no undoing it and she's happy for them, Ochaco can't help but feel bitter about it, feelings that she vents during their fight in the Sports Festival.
  • Luminescent Blush: Kyoka has an industrial-grade blush when Tokoyami praises her looks.
  • Lethal Harmless Powers: Ichigo Gō's Quirk, Unbutton, allows her to undo any button, including skirt buttons. When at school, she would use it to blackmail or humiliate classmates. During her trial, she uses it to steal a security guard's handgun out of its holster and attempts to murder Lily and the judge overseeing the trial. Fortunately, Izuku protected the judge before Tae ripped Ichigo's arm off and subdued her with it.
  • Major Injury Underreaction: With the strength of his Healing Factor and years of bullying, Izuku has gained a massive pain threshold in the process, being able to shrug off physical trauma that would kill or cripple most people.
  • Meaningful Name: Izuku takes the name Osowiec when he plays the villain on Class 1-B's fake villain attack - after a battle that was nicknamed the "Attack of the Dead Men". Meanwhile, Tsuyu, Tae, Lily, and Saki pick Nevesta (Bride), Roslyy (Tall), Pesnya (Song), and Sila (Power).
  • More than Mind Control: While any living person under the effects of Izuku's blood (which last until it is "burned out") is more or less under his control and develops a psychological attachment to him, they still have a will of their own. Tsu's feelings for Izuku were genuine even when the blood works its way out of her system and Aizawa was self-aware enough not to let his new, temporary instincts cloud his judgment and show favoritism to Izuku. Of course, Izuku not wanting to take advantage of people certainly helps in this regard.
  • My God, What Have I Done?:
    • Angry at being called out for his approach to life, Todoroki shouts at Lily that she does not know anything about suffering...before remembering that Lily is a ten-year-old zombie girl who was repeatedly raped by a group of pedophiles and finally killed when one of them went too far, and that she's only alive (for a given value of the term) thanks to Izuku. The shock of realizing that leaves him unable to answer when Izuku angrily points out that he hasn't looked more like Endeavor than now.
    • When Fumikage comes to his senses after nearly hitting Momo with a blow so hard it could be felt out of the stadium (having turned and deliberately struck the floor mid-swing), he heavily apologizes for his actions and forfeits, knowing that he could have done something horrible if he hadn't stopped at the last moment.
    • Todoroki has a worse shock of this when he accidentally impales Izuku with a large shard of ice through the heart, fearing that he's becoming exactly what Izuku had said - Endeavor with an ice Quirk. This shakes him so much he begs Nezu to help him.
  • My Greatest Failure: Eraserhead was approached by Lily, but she couldn't tell him why she needed a hero. When they meet again, she's dead from sexual abuse and Aizawa blames himself for his inability to notice something and help her.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Ochaco uses her Quirk on Izuku so he won't fall face-first before the entrance exam.
    • Izuku defeats Katsuki during the Heroes vs Villains fight.
    • Mei Hatsume tries to join Izuku's team in the Cavalry Battle due to his status as #1.
  • Necessary Drawback: Discussed. Tsukauchi reflects that a lot of powerful Quirks often have built-in drawbacks or limits to curb abuse or overuse. Izuku's Cursed Blood, for example, requires great amounts of nutrients to make his Healing Factor work and has a time limit on how long a person can be dead before attempts by him to revive them will fail.
  • Never My Fault: After getting sent to a correctional facility, Bakugo refuses to consider he's in there due to his own actions. Instead, he blames Izuku. Even after undergoing Character Development, the only mistakes he acknowledges are that he got Tsuyu and Iida caught in his attack and that he went after Izuku before the latter revealed his true villainous nature.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: He's clearly not a villain, but Todoroki's use of an ice dome to ensure his team is the first to reach Midoriya in an attempt to take the ten-million-point headband before anyone else instead gives Izuku's team a second layer of defense.
  • Nightmare Face: When he catches U.A.'s security advisor having a conversation that all but states she will tamper with the Sports Festival to prevent Izuku from winning, Nedzu looks positively feral, scaring the daylights out of said advisor when she sees him.
  • No-Sell:
    • When Shigaraki tries to use his disintegration Quirk on Izuku, Cursed Blood's Healing Factor turns out to be powerful enough to counter it.
    • When a QRA agent attempts to capture Tae (even though she is under explicit orders to leave Izuku and the zombie girls alone), she tries to tase her. Tae does not even flinch even when the taser is at full strength. The same cannot be said for the agent when Tae turns the taser on her.
    • While Shinso manages to trick Izuku into falling for his Brainwashing Quirk, it fails for two reasons. First, that Cursed Blood isolates him from the full effects of said Quirk. And second, because Tae is there as well, is quite immune to Brainwashing, and more than capable of keeping him in a Neck Lift.
    • Tenya tries one of his superpowered kicks against Tetsutetsu. The latter was tough enough to shrug it off.
  • Noble Bigot: Present Mic is a professional hero but also holds noticeable Quirkist views, such as considering students with Mutation Quirks to be underdogs, even if said Quirk is fairly powerful, or questioning the legality of Izuku punching Shiozaki in the face during their match even though other fighters have done worse before. It's later revealed his bias is due to being part of a sting operation against a villainess with a mantis Quirk.
  • Not Hyperbole: Power Loader once claimed Mei and her partner Kaede are so terrible at remembering names, it was a miracle they knew five names between them. While offended, the girls proved him right after three hours of trying to name more than five other people.
  • Not So Above It All: Prim and proper Ojou Momo likes to read smut-filled books in her free time (at least according to Saki).
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: Tae has regained greater control of her facilities than she lets on, even speaking, but she keeps up the charade out of loyalty to Izuku.
  • One Degree of Separation: The woman who killed Tae was also the one who killed Saki.
  • Only Sane Man: Inverted with Todoroki's team during the Cavalry Battle, where his obsession with defeating Midoriya is contrasted with Iida, Uraraka, and Ojiro, who know that their best chance to win after Dark Shadow covers Midoriya's team is to go after other teams and take their headbands instead.
  • Open-Minded Parent: While Tsuyu's parents are genuinely nice on their own, the fact that they are first introduced to Izuku after he saved their daughter from a fatal injury gives them little wiggle room to complain. They also have no problem with the scarier connotations of his Quirk, being a family of people with Mutation Quirks who run a law firm that specializes in cases revolving around Quirk-based discrimination.
  • Pædo Hunt: When Lily confesses the true circumstances of her demise, a gigantic sting operation is organized to find and arrest the ones responsible - an entire group of rich people who use their connections to kidnap children for their "meetings" and remain untouched by the law.
  • Papa Wolf: Aizawa, although strict and stern, will do everything he can to protect his students.
    • During the USJ attack, he tells the students to evacuate while he holds off all the villains.
    • At the Sports Festival, he beats the crap out of Present Mic for calling Izuku "the Monster of U.A.", plots for what he's going to do to those people who would perv on Mina after her Wardrobe Malfunction, and when people start jeering too much at the sight of Itsuka and Momo, Aizawa angrily reminds them that the girls are minors.
  • Personality Powers: Aspirant Idol Singer Lily is gifted with a powerful Super-Scream.
  • Pet the Dog: Katsuki manages to do this while he's screaming at a girl to stop wandering naked and get dressed. See, this girl was constantly bullied for having a Mutant Spider Quirk so was treated as a monster. Katsuki's reaction actually acknowledged her as a girl first and foremost.
  • Please Put Some Clothes On: Katsuki's first reaction to Konno is to refuse to be in the room with her until she got dressed. This shows to his probation officer that Katsuki sees Konno as a girl instead of her monstrous Quirk, and that there might yet be hope for him.
  • Post-Kiss Catatonia: Fumikage after Jiro kisses him on the cheek in the classroom.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech:
    • When Todoroki tells Izuku and his friends about why he doesn't intend to use his fire Quirk, Izuku calls him an idiot, and it is pointed out to him that not only does he not have the monopoly on a shitty childhood, but all his Quirk troubles are self-imposed. Then he makes the mistake of telling Lily she doesn't know a thing about suffering - before remembering about Lily's Dark and Troubled Past: that's when Izuku tells him that, for all Todoroki claims he isn't his father's tool, all he's seeing is Endeavor 2.0 using his mother's Quirk as a tool.
    • Tsuyu gives one to Todoroki for how he acted in his previous matches, specifically how he nearly killed Jiro. Tsuyu says that not only does she not trust him in what amounts to regulated sparring, but she doesn't trust him during any hero work as he's clearly shown a blatant disregard for the safety of others. To a lesser extent, said speech also extends to Midnight and Cementoss for not preventing Jiro's injuries.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: All of Izuku's zombies and anyone with his blood gains red eyes. Izuku's own pair have turned red before as well particularly when he goes full out during the fight against Ibara and then Tetsutetsu.
  • Refuge in Audacity: Endeavor shamelessly attempts to pay Izuku for his sperm - in front of a QRA agent, no less - after Izuku told him he wouldn't accept his "offer" to marry Fuyumi for anything.
  • Related in the Adaptation: Midnight is Shinso's aunt - although not by blood, since he is part of the Garden's extended family, who call him the same Midnight does.
  • Rescue Romance: Tsuyu and Izuku bond as friends easily when they are put on the same team for the Heroes vs Villains exercise. They bond romantically when Izuku saves her life after Bakugo collapses a building on them.
  • Restored My Faith in Humanity: When finally able to talk through a dream, Tae thanks Izuku for saving her soul and treating her as a person worth saving. Considering that she was an unmissed victim of human trafficking when alive, but as a zombie, she is loved with the power to fight those who have hurt her and fulfill her dreams of being a hero.
  • Revealing Cover Up: Aldera Middle School made sure Bakugo's record was completely spotless in hopes of gaining prestige when he becomes a famous hero. The clean record only makes Aizawa more suspicious because he knows there's no way someone with Bakugo's explosive personality wouldn't have gotten in at least a few fights over the years. The situation is made worse by the fact Izuku's record mentions that he was frequently beaten but there isn't a single mention of a culprit.
  • Running Gag: Izuku and Tsuyu's couple time keeps getting interrupted.
  • Scatter Brained Senior: It is implied Recovery Girl is going senile in her advanced age. At one point, she cannot remember a quote she gave years ago as her own words.
  • Sentient Phlebotinum: Izuku's Quirk is revealed to be alive and sentient. He can even communicate with it, or rather with his blood. This is treated as normal, as sentient Quirks are nothing new.
  • Ship Tease:
    • Kyouka and Fumikage ended up getting plenty of it starting from when they spied on Midoriya and Tsu's date, which eventually resulted in them having their own lovers' boat ride to follow them. And then Kyouka outright kissed Fumikage after Kaminari made a thoughtless comment.
    • After Shoji reveals he can perceive Tooru through his quirk, the latter becomes so attached to him that she drags the former into shopping with her.
    • It's heavily implied that Fuyumi Todoroki and Tensei Iida are an item and planning to tie the knot.
  • Shipper on Deck: Inko and Beru are hard-shipping their kids, and they are even ready to make an arrangement for their marriage.
    • No matter how much Bakugo and Konno protest, Masaru and Mitsuki are sure those two are going to end up together and never fail to state so.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Show, Don't Tell: In-Universe, Tokoyami tells Hatsume to do this to demonstrate her inventions, rather than just do a sales pitch. It does work, as many heroes begin to ask about getting gear from her, and an omake has her Festival stand getting swarmed by people interested in her gear.
  • Simple, yet Awesome: During the Cavalry Battle, Izuku's team just shield themselves with Dark Shadow (using the vibrations from Kyouka's Quirk to allow Dark Shadow to counter the effects of the light) because they're guaranteed first place if they just hold on to Izuku's headband.
  • Single Woman Seeks Good Man: Mina spent years being enamoured with Kirishima since he didn't care about her appearance and never considered her freaky. It's why she's dead-set on making him hers - which does seem to work.
  • Smoking Is Cool: Invoked and subverted. Izuku and his mom made a special candy that he eats to replenish himself after heavy quirk-use. It is shaped like cigars and Inko says he would look cool with them, but immediately begs Izuku not to actually smoke.
  • The Sociopath:
    • Bakugo. He is incredibly self-centered with a notable Lack of Empathy. He views it as Izuku's fault that he's in a correctional facility, even though Bakugo blew up the building after the Heroes vs Villains exercise was over - he even tells himself that Izuku planned out the entire thing (including Iida and Tsuyu's presence) to get him in trouble. Justified in that his upbringing - being constantly praised and all his wrongdoings covered up - had led him to believe himself the most important person ever.
    • Lily's Wicked Stepmother, Ichigo, believes it's unfair that her attempts to murder her stepchild, drive her husband to suicide, and steal her husband's tech blueprints failed.
    • Mineta suggests that Momo allow herself to be raped during the USJ attack so the villains won't kill them. And then there's when he tried to rape his escort.
  • Stating the Simple Solution: When everyone is caught at the starting line during the race at the Sports Festival, Izuku bluntly points out that the ceiling is clear, leading to Tsuyu jumping the both of them out past everyone else.
  • Stone Wall: Izuku's strategy for the Cavalry Battle is to use Dark Shadow (protected from the sun by Kyoka's Quirk) as an impenetrable barrier. Thanks to the ten million-points headband, they don't need to move.
  • Sucky School: Izuku and Bakugo's middle school Aldera Middle School would routinely look the other way at Bakugo's bullying under the assumption that anything bad on his record would hurt his chances of being a hero, thinking that his impressive Quirk was all he needed. They would get away with this by citing that Izuku's Healing Factor meant that there was no "lasting damage" and thus no physical proof of misconduct. It is also likely that they would overlook Izuku's general well-being due to systematic Quirkism, as Izuku's Quirk is both a Mutation-type (which is a commonly-held target of Quirkism) and that it looks "scary" at face-value (the whole "zombie" thing). By the time Bakugo and Izuku are attending UA, Bakugo has become a monster with delusions of grandeur and nearly kills three students over a wounded ego while Izuku has been conditioned not to fight back when Bakugo attacks him. When Aizawa looks into the school's history, he finds a laundry list of negative behavior and isolated incidents from the students that have attended it, with a case of one of its students having tried to rape another under the delusion that they could do anything they wanted.
  • Super-Empowering: Downplayed with Izuku's blood. Until it "burns out", it gives those that have it a minor Healing Factor and other benefits such as an intelligence boost.
  • Superpower Lottery:
    • While Izuku's Quirk at first seems to only work as a mild Healing Factor, preventing him from ever getting sick and instantly healing from minor cuts and bruises, prolonged exposure to larger threats prove that he has one of the strongest regeneration quirks out there. He can survive gunshot wounds to vital organs (including the brain) and shrug them off, repair broken bones and torn muscles, shrug off fourth-degree burns, and is even able to regrow limbs in moments. He can also heal lethal wounds on living people and even bring back the dead as Revenant Zombies, and is even capable of controlling the will of those exposed to his blood. Add on his prodigal intelligence, if he wasn't dead-set on being a hero (with all of the virtues that came with it), Izuku would make a terrifying Big Bad.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: In the first chapter, Izuku tries to act as a Bullet Proof Human Shield, only for the bullets to go right through him and into the girl he was protecting.
  • Sustained Misunderstanding: Shiozaki first views Izuku as pure evil, up to possibly being Satan himself. Then after Izuku saves All-Might, she decides he's instead a Fallen Angel as he's clearly not pure evil. After their match at the Sports Festival, Shiozaki decides that her attempt at Holy Burns Evil failed because Izuku is an angel himself, specifically the Angel of Death.
  • Take a Third Option: During his time with the Jaegers, Izuku's faced with a woman begging for a Mercy Kill after years of being sequestered, tortured, and forcefully impregnated by a gang that makes Trigger, and either he does the killing or a Jaeger does. Izuku chooses to use Cursed Blood to heal the woman and erase her memories.
  • Team Spirit: For the first competition in the Sports Festival, Izuku winds up encouraging his fellow students to pool their resources to get past the Zero-Pointers together. This eventually leads to various other pairings helping each other get through the competition, such as Ochaco and Iida working together to get past the chasm. While the crowd seems to think that this is a sign of weakness and that the competition was meant to be every man for themself, the veteran Pro Heroes could not be prouder. Endeavor in particular finds it frustrating that, on top of having an incredibly useful Quirk, Izuku is also a charismatic leader.
  • Terror Hero: While Izuku has no interest in using any of his powers for evil or selfish purposes, the terrifying connotations of his abilities have left him little wiggle room to be anything else, eventually embracing the idea of being a "sinister hero" when Nedzu asks him to help the school serve Class 1-B fresh Humble Pie with a USJ-like scenario.
  • Their First Time: Kyoka and Fumikage have theirs the day before the Sports Festival.
  • There Are No Therapists: Heavily averted. Bakugo is forced to undergo psychological evaluations after nearly killing Izuku, Tenya, and Tsuyu, and Class 1-A as a whole attends Pro-Hero level therapy sessions so they can recover from the events of the USJ Incident.
  • Too Dumb to Live: U.A.'s security advisor accepted a hefty bribe from a "sponsor" in exchange for her meddling with the Sports Festival without even making a background check on the individual - who turns out to be All For One.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: When offered a deal to get out of Seireitei, Bakugo insists his roommate be allowed to come with him.
  • Touché: When out on dates with escorts, Sero and Kaminari accept being told they're "rather shitty dates" and take advice on how to be the kind of men women would want to date.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Takeo Gou never even bothers to give Izuku a token "thank you" or apology for what he said after learning what happened to Lily. Instead, he keeps making threats to Izuku, never realizing or accepting that he's the only reason Lily is still 'alive'.
  • Victim-Blaming:
    • Bakugo does this as part of his Never My Fault routine.
    • In the aftermath of the USJ Incident, Nedzu and Aizawa have to deal with reporters attempting to vilify Class 1-A for the high crime of defending themselves from the League of Villains.
    • Endeavor has little to no sympathy for anyone he or Shoto fights. As far as he is concerned, anyone who does is stupid and deserves everything that happens to them.
  • Villain with Good Publicity: Downplayed and Invoked. While Bakugo has no intention of becoming a supervillain and sees himself as the next All Might, his narcissism and temper make him more likely to become an Unscrupulous Hero at best, a career delinquent with a god complex at worst. With research, Aizawa discovers that Aldera Middle School did everything in its power to keep his record clean and did nothing about his delinquent behavior because they thought that it would improve his chances of getting into U.A., thinking his powerful Quirk was enough reason for him to be a Pro Hero. The "good publicity" is immediately subverted after Bakugo tries to blow up Izuku with his gauntlet after he loses the Heroes vs. Villains Exercise, nearly killing Tenya and Tsuyu in the process when the building collapses around them: Bakugo is suspended for a month, sent to a correctional facility for evaluation, moved to General Studies, and put on criminal charges by the Iida and Asui families.
  • Wardrobe Malfunction: During the Ashido vs Kirishima fight, Mina uses her acid on Kirishima, but Kirishima keeps throwing some of the acid back at her, which begins to eat through her clothes. In the end, most of Ashido's clothes have disappeared, and when Kirishima tries to grab her, he ends up accidentally ripping her underclothes.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist:
    • Takeo Gou wants to learn how to undo Izuku's Quirk so they can take his daughter Lily back. Recovery Girl supports their efforts out of the belief that Izuku's Quirk holds incredible medical potential, and is willing to break the rules in order to research it further.
    • David Shield also wants to study Izuku's Quirk in order to help restore All Might's health to the point that he's considering extracting it surgically and implanting it into All Might. The chapter of the omake is even called "Good intentions".
  • We Will Have Perfect Health in the Future: Subverted and discussed. Despite it being centuries in the future, many modern-day illnesses still plague the world. Part of the reason for this is that even in a world filled with superpowers, there are very few who possess powers that grant them resistance to disease. It doesn’t help that usage of such powers in the medical field was outlawed due to an Expy of Mr. Freeze kidnapping and chopping up anyone who had a Quirk even remotely related to healing.
  • Wham Line: One for the Class 1-B students during their special training.
    Mei: Uh oh... Sensei? SENSEI?! It's a real bomb.
    • Recovery Girl dismisses a statement speaking out against experimenting on Quirks and insults the speaker.
      Nezu: Chiyo... You said that. Those were your words!
  • Wrestler in All of Us: During the tournament, Saki uses a suplex on Ibara, while Izuku later does a headscissor on Tetsutetsu.
  • Wunza Plot: Tae's a Zombie former victim of human trafficking. Izuku's an immortal schoolboy necromancer. Together they learn to become heroes!
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: The shooting range booth's attendant reaction when Tae proves to be every bit the sharpshooter Izuku is.
