While I'm no stranger to "darker" or more "realistic" fics, I have to say this one just doesn't sit right with me.
The premise, being a crossover of MHA and Zombie Land Saga, is that Izuku did have a Quirk, one in which he can both heal and revive from the dead people with his titular Cursed Blood, and that he's ultimately resented for it as a "Dark Quirk". And of the people he's revived are Tae and Lily from ZLS, and Tsuyu from near death.
First issue of course is the reaction to Izuku's quirk. Many people are distrusting of Izuku's quirk because it falls under the category of "Dark", with Aldera even overlooking Bakugo's bullying because of it. Problem is, What constitutes a "Dark" Quirk. With "Cursed Blood", its somewhat understandable since its necromancy, but why is Tokoyami's "Dark Shadow" called one when its just a living shadow? Why isn't Vlad's called one when his is blood manipulation? And why is necromancy treated horribly? This setting has so many abilities that can be called monstrous, yet the ability to revive the dead is look upon with scorn. Even the people revived are treated as less than human, with Uraraka at one point referring to Tsuyu as a "Reanimated Corpse".
Second issue is, a lot of the characters seem Out of Character.
Third issue is the differences behind Lily and Tae's backgrounds. Tae's background is a mystery in canon and being a Running Gag overall, but here its just depressing for the sake of depressing, with her being a former slave and rape victim. And Lily's backstory was heavily changed, going from being a Transgender Girl who died from stress and a heart attack to being a Transgender Girl sold by a wicked stepmother to numerous pedophiles only be killed during it. It feels needlessly cruel and dark for Lily just for the sake of being dark.
It really doesn't work however because of the material its mixing. It's trying to be dark using the themes of Zombies, but it doesn't work because its using Zombie Land Saga, a Horror Comedy that focuses more on the girls having to live with being Zombies but also demonstrating how they're still people. MHA can get away with being dark because its a setting of superheroes, and darker stories can be told using that and the backgrounds of the characters. ZLS however treats the few realistic moments of people reacting to Zombies as both comedy, but also as just them being frightened and panicked. Yet here it doesn't work because people have interacted with Tae, Lily, and Tsuyu, both when they were alive and revived, and yet they're treated differently just cause they were revived. So by mixing a work that wasn't meant to be dark with something that can be dark but is still light overall into something dark, it doesn't work.
Maybe its just not for me, but as a fan of both Zombie Land Saga and My Hero Academia, I'll be steering clear of this Cursed Blood.
