Main Characters

    Yuuya Tenjou

Yuuya Tenjou

Yuuya post-Level Up
Voiced by: Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, Nao Ojika (child) (Japanese), Lee George (English), Ángel Pedroza (Latin American Spanish)

Originally short and fat, Yuuya was abused and neglected by his family, save for his grandfather, and thanks to the constant bullying both at home and at school, he has very little self-esteem. Things take a turn for the better when he saves a girl from being accosted by a bunch of delinquents and finding a door leading to another world inside his grandfather's house...

  • The Ace: To everyone in Ousei Academy and in the other world after his massive level up.
  • Accidental Pervert: After being dragged into being an impromptu clothing model, Miu pulls Yuuya in close during multiple shots, resulting in him feeling her breasts through his shirt. He's very clearly embarrassed by this and stiffens up even though he's supposed to be posing naturally.
Yuuya: It's soft!! And warm! It smells good!! They're touching me! Doesn't she notice it?
  • Accidental Proposal: The King demands a gift for Lexia, then gets ENRAGED when Yuuya presents some high-quality bedsheets he got from a monster drop. By the kingdom's customs, this means he intends to marry and share a bed with her. Lexia is delighted of course.
  • Adaptation Dye-Job: Yuuya is described as having black hair and dark brown eyes in the manga and novel, but the anime gives him brown hair and much lighter-colored eyes.
  • Badass Normal: Zigzagged. Yuuya's enhanced physical capabilities come from his experiences in the other world, but they transfer over to his world as well. To everyone around him, he's The Ace and very good at physical activities.
  • Berserk Button: Make fun of him all you want, but don't mock his grandfather.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Despite the way his siblings treated him, he still saves Youta from getting strangled to death by the Red Ogres' leader, and while he hasn't forgiven them for what they did, he still considers them his family.
  • Big Damn Heroes:
    • He intervenes in time to distract the thugs harassing Kaori long enough for the police to arrive.
    • He saves Lexia when she and her entourage are attacked by the Demon's Den's monsters. Twice.
    • He saves Kaori again when the Red Ogres attack Ousei Academy and try to kidnap her.
    • When the mall is struck by a fire, he is able to find Kaori, Kaede, and Rin and get them all out of the building before they suffocate from the smoke.
    • When the guy Miu's father is trying to set her up with tries to murder them both, Yuuya comes in time to save them.
  • Black Knight: His [Blood Ogre] armor set appears completely black with red accents.
  • Blessed with Suck: Volume 12 reveals that his body was a recipient of a large amount of spiritual power, though this came at the cost of making him ugly and obese.
  • Chick Magnet: After he became handsome, there is hardly a page in the manga where a woman in the background isn't blushing at him. However, due to having no self-esteem, he doesn't realize this, such as when two girls were trying to proposition him for sex, he thought they were just trying to scam him. He also feels depressed when girls flee from him, not realizing they were squealing.
  • Clark Kent Outfit: Yuuya's muscles are incredibly toned, are small enough to be easily hidden by his school uniform, contributing to his Pretty Boy looks. After he catches Kaede during a mishap at a soccer field, she feels his muscles through his shirt and makes note of how strong and built he is.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle:
    • He easily kills the Blood Ogre attempting to invade the Sage's house in the other world with the Absolute Spear despite the clear level and stat difference. Since the Level Up carries over even in Yuuya's world, he's capable of performing superhuman feats and take down the average thug; as you might imagine, the Red Ogres' attack on Ousei Academy ends in failure spectacularly as none of them can even so much as manage to hit Yuuya, and he himself never lands a hit except against their boss to save his siblings, relying on Friendly Fire to do the work for him.
    • Subverted in his later ventures into the Demon's Den. As Yuuya soon discovers, there are plenty of powerful monsters in the area with far higher Levels and stats than his.
  • Does Not Know His Own Strength: In the school festival in Volume 3, he's called in to help with several sport events, and despite trying to hold back he still goes overboard, like piercing a ping-pong table when he tries to return the ball, or leaving a crater when he does a spike in volleyball.
  • Expy: Yuuya Tenjou is one to Hiiragi Seiichi from The Fruit of Evolution, which is also written by the same author. Both are Formerly Fat protagonists that become powerhouses, albeit in different ways.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Due to how he broke the only mirror in his house before discovering the other world - and an unwillingness to replace it because of his Rage Against the Reflection - he doesn't realize the full extent of his physical changes extends to his face until he realizes on the first day of school that people he's known for long think he's a new student.
  • Gag Penis: In the novels, his boxers fall down after his level up transformation and he spends a few sentences marveling at just how big his dick is now, something his classmates at Ousei also remark on when they visit a hot spring.
  • Gonk: He was short (even shorter than his younger siblings) and fat before finding the other world.
  • Hammerspace: One of the skills he gained after going through the Portal Door.
  • Hard Work Hardly Works: He tried exercising, dieting, and studying throughout the night to lose weight, but ultimately gave up when it didn't seem to do anything.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: Despite looking like a male model, his self-esteem is so thoroughly destroyed from years of bullying. It takes him a long time to realize how attractive and strong he has become.
  • Humble Hero: Outside of the Demon's Den, Yuuya is perhaps the strongest person in the other world, and leveling up turns him into a heartthrob who's easily mistaken for being a model. When he does realize the extent of the physical changes done to his body, he thinks he looks average, and thanks to his low self-esteem, he thinks his skills are either average or mediocre at best.
  • I Am Not Pretty: Following his transformation, Yuuya gains the physique and face of a supermodel, resulting in tons of gawking and flirtatious comments from strangers. While he's able to recognize that he's much better looking now, his awful self-esteem and poor social skills prevents him from percieving just how handsome he is, thinking himself as slightly above average in terms of appearance.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: His adventures in the other world aside, after receiving some encouragement from Miu and the Houjou family, Yuuya wants nothing more than to enjoy his normal life with his friends at Ousei Academy. This is also why he refuses the director of Miu's talent agency, since it would just bring him unnecessary drama and trouble.
  • Incorruptible Pure Pureness: When a fragment of the Evil tries to possess him, it finds that it can't because Yuuya has no anger, hatred, or any other negative emotion that it can amplify or feed on.
  • Instant Expert: He instantly learns how to use any weapon he holds. However, a bit subverted as he gets the skill at LV 1. He still needs to use it more and goes out of his way to get books on how to actually use them to better understand them. He also instantly becomes an expert cook just by trying to use the vegetables grown outside of the Sage's house.
  • Invisibility Cloak: His "Oneness" skill makes him quite invisible to most beings in the vicinity, a skill he uses after saving Lexia when the other knights found her passed out in order to not complicate things initially.
  • Karmic Jackpot: He used to be bullied because of his obesity and could never get a break. After his grandfather died and left him his house that had a Portal Door to another world, he became taller, very attractive, and physically strong along with a house filled with super powerful weapons and food. He later gets transferred to a very prestigious school, but that was due to something before he found the other world by saving a girl from thugs, said girl turned out to be the daughter of the school's principal.
  • Loophole Abuse: At the start of the story, he defeats the monsters on the other side of the portal by attacking them from inside the shield that was protecting the shack he found himself in, so they could not retaliate. He levels up in a hurry as a result.
  • Meaningful Name: His name is written with the characters for "gentleness" and "night", referring to his Nice Guy personality and his Tall, Dark, and Handsome looks.
  • Multi-Melee Master: After doing some reading and swinging around all the weapons in the Sage's shop, Yuuya gains the skill "True Martial Arts", making him an expert martial artist capable of wielding swords, spears, whips, and other melee weapons as well as fight people and monsters with his bare hands.
  • Mundane Utility: His "Detect" skill comes in quite handy to win prizes at crane games. Later during the camping trip, he also uses his super reflexes to catch fish at a river bank with his bare hands.
  • Must Be Invited: Due to him being the owner of the cabin, the spells on the property allows for him to accept or deny entry for anyone; best exemplified when a level 300 Bloody Ogre tried attacking Yuuya on the first night; only for the barrier to prevent the Ogre from even reaching a claw over the fence or trying to toss a tree at Yuuya only for the force field to break it.
  • New Life in Another World Bonus: He got the jackpot when he went to the other world. His Level Up turns him from a fat kid to an extremely attractive heartthrob, and the girl he saved before discovering the other world manages to recognize him despite his new appearance and offers him a place at Ousei Academy.
  • Nice Guy: Even before his change and despite all of the bullying, he always tried to do the right thing. Even going as far as to defend a girl from a bunch of thugs despite knowing he had no chance.
  • Omniglot: One of the first skills he gains is "Language Comprehension", which allows him to understand any language he comes across. This allows him to quickly ace his English classes, and speak the language fluently when he travels abroad.
  • Painful Transformation: His Level Ups that transform him into a pretty boy don't take hold immediately, instead happening when he next falls asleep — all at once. It was not pleasant. Yuuya's body violently reshapes itself through the night and he screams in agony the whole way.
  • Possession Implies Mastery: He gains skills like "Swordsmanship" and "Spearmanship" just by picking up the weapons around the Sage's house in the other world. But these skills start at "Lv. 1", only going up as he actually practices with them.
  • Power Fist: The "Infinity Gauntlets" are a set of indestructible gauntlets and graves that enhance the power of one's blows and enables Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs.
  • Power Incontinence: Yuuya does not have complete control over his passive skills like "True Martial Arts", resulting in him automatically reacting to threats and making a scene when he doesn't mean to.
  • Pretty Boy: After leveling up he becomes someone that could be a male model. It takes him a while to even realize he changed due to breaking the mirror in his home, not even recognizing himself when he finally sees his reflection. When he does realize it, he still thinks he looks fairly average.
  • Rage Breaking Point: After years of abuse, losing his job, getting beat up, kicked out by his parents, and living alone in his grandfather's old house, he rages and breaks the mirror. However, it is due to this that he finds the secret room in the house that leads to the other world.
  • Raised by Grandparents: His grandfather was the only family member who genuinely cared about him. His parents and siblings, on the other hand, treat him like garbage.
  • Rescue Romance: At least three of his Love Interests fall for him because he saved them.
    • While he got beat up for it, his intervention saved Kaori from potentially being raped by three thugs.
    • He kills the goblins trying to kill Lexia and her knights.
    • When an off-target football nearly hits Kaede, he kicks it away before it hits her.
  • Socially Awkward Hero: Due to being belittled his entire life, Yuuya is constantly confused by the attention he gets with his new looks and powers. He constantly feels like he's out of place, acting skittish and easily embarrassed.
  • Sudden Game Interface: After he goes through the Portal Door.
  • Supreme Chef: Developing the "Cooking" skill allows him to make great food with whatever ingredients he comes by. This ends up winning him points with his teacher Sawada.
  • Tall, Dark, and Handsome: Yuuya gains more than a head in height along with the features of a supermodel following his level up. Lexia makes special note of his dark eyes and hair that are out of place in the other world and he's a complete Chick Magnet.
  • Thicker Than Water: He still fights to protect his two arrogant and abusive siblings even after they recruit the "Ogres" gang to attack Ousei Academy and himself because said academy refused to let them abuse him and pay homage to their raging superiority complex.
  • Translator Microbes: He gained the skill to talk to people in any language in either world. Though people seeing this hear him speaking in the language like an Omniglot.
  • Understatement: After he noticed his body completely changed, he thinks his body "is a little different".
  • The Unfavorite: His parents blatantly favor his younger twin siblings. To the point they were happy that his grandfather gave them his house so they could kick him out.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: He knows very little about sports in general, but more than makes up for it with his huge strength.
  • Walking Armory: Having a Bag of Holding means that Yuuya can take all the weapons at the Sage's House with him on his travels, including spears, swords, bows, and whips.
  • With Great Power Comes Great Hotness: Going up 100 levels in an instant and allocating his stat points causes Yuuya to become tall, muscular, and handsome, to the point that he's mistaken for a professional model by passerby.
  • World's Strongest Man: Becomes this after he starts leveling up in the other world, allowing him to carry a large pile of heavy boxes as it was nothing. He doesn't seem to realize how strong he has become as he doesn't realize the monsters he defeats in the other world are considered country-destroying level monsters.

    Night

Night

  • Action Pet: Looks like a Shiba puppy, hits like a freight train.
  • Badass Adorable: He looks like a black pup, but his stats are much higher than Yuuya's.
  • Canis Major: Later on, he learns to take the form of a giant, adult wolf to become much stronger in battle.
  • Cuteness Proximity: Night attracts a lot of attention, especially from the female variety who find him to be utterly adorable.
  • Evil-Detecting Dog: Night tries to keep Yuuya from helping Luna, having detected that she is a Professional Killer.

    Akatsuki

Akatsuki

Voiced by: Yuka Iguchi

    Ouma

Ouma/Genesis Dragon

A legendary dragon that slept for millennia, Ouma is an old friend of the Sage, and is considered the strongest being in the Other World, even above the Holy and Evil. After awakening in response to the resurgence of Evil, Ouma was accidentally tamed by Yuuya and became one of his companions. Despite his overwhelming power, Ouma is very lazy and prefers to not get involved in Yuuya’s battles too often.
  • Sleep-Mode Size: Yuuya feeds him a special pill that allows him to shrink to a small size. Afterwards, he's able to switch between sizes at will.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Curry. He's loved it since Yuuya let him taste it in their first meeting.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: While tinkering with the objects in Yuuya's secret room, he accidentally knocks alien artifact off its pedestal. Said artifact is the blueprint of a space superweapon, which alerts two alien races looking for it and brings about the Dragonians Alien Invasion to Earth.

Earth Characters

Yuuya's Family

    Yuunosuke Tenjou

Yuunosuke Tenjou

Voiced by: Tomomichi Nishimura (Japanese), Kent Williams (English), Mario Hernández (Latin American Spanish)

Yuuya's grandfather who was the only person who was kind to him. He died before the start of the story and left his house to Yuuya that started the plot.

  • Astral Projection: Volume 8 reveals that he visited the other world this way, as he was unable to go physically. He became friends with the Sage/Zenovis this way.
  • Doting Grandparent: He was always kind to Yuuya, tried to encourage him, and left him his house when he died.
  • Posthumous Character: He died just before the start of the series, gifting Yuuya his house in his will.

    Yuuya's Parents

Mr and Mrs. Tenjou

Yuuya, Sora, and Youta's parents.
  • Abusive Parents: They did initially love Yuuya, but when his siblings were born and he grew obese, they turned their affections over to his younger siblings and started to treat him horribly. They attempted to take his inheritance from his grandfather's will as he was the sole benefactor, and when that failed, they kicked him out.
  • The Ghost: They briefly appear in the manga and anime, but otherwise have no appearance or presence in the light novel.

    Youta and Sora

Youta and Sora Tenjou

Youta (Left), Sora (Right)
Voiced by: Yuki Sakakihara (Youta) and Yuuko Oono (Sora) (Japanese), Erick Padilla (Youta) and Diana Castañeda (Sora) (Latin American Spanish)

Yuuya's twin younger siblings who constantly bully him.

  • The Ace: Unlike Yuuya (initially), they're skilled both academically and physically and are members of the archery club. This is also why their parents favor them over Yuuya.
  • Big Brother Bully: Inverted; they're Yuuya's younger siblings, but they relentlessly bully him.
  • Didn't Think This Through:: When attacking Yuuya’s school, they give no thought to the fact they openly affiliate themself with a gang, show their faces and name themselves. Even had they been successful in their shortsighted goal and escaped, they wouldn’t be able to go back to their house without being easily found by police and would not be allowed to attend their own school, essentially upending their own lives for a moment of spite.
  • Easily Forgiven: Subverted. While Yuuya saves Youta from getting strangled to death, he makes it clear he has not forgiven them for the way they treated him. Though they can't help but admit how they weren't worth what he did for them anyway.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: They fail to understand why Kaori would allow Yuuya, a failure and embarrassment in their eyes, to attend Ousei Academy and get pissed when Kaori refuses to even consider allowing them to attend her school. Youta similarly has problems failing to understand why his brother would even bother saving him from being killed by the Red Ogre's leader when he and the rest of their family bullied him for so long.
  • Evil Is Petty: Simply for having their brother chosen to attend a prestigious school instead of them, they openly attack said school in broad daylight, despite no one involved taking any action against them.
  • Evil Is Not a Toy: They conspire with the Red Ogres to attack Ousei Academy and humiliate Yuuya. When that fails, Youta lambasts the boss of the gang for being unable to follow through on their end, which leads to the boss attempting to strangle Youta to death. Were it not for Yuuya, he would have succeeded.
  • Karma Houdini: Zigzagged. They are arrested by the police for orchestrating an attack on Ousei Academy, but unlike the Red Ogres' younger members who are sent to a reform school and/or rehabilitation facility, they more or less get a slap on the wrist thanks to Kaori on Yuuya's behest. On the other hand, Yuuya notes how their reputation and academic future will take a massive swan dive thanks to the incident. There's also being left in tears how they only got said slap on the wrist after everything they've done to him.
  • Half-Identical Twins: Aside from their gender, the only way to tell them apart are their hairstyles.
  • Heel Realization: At the very least, the fact that Yuuya saved and stayed so merciful causes them to break down admitting how they don't deserve him as a brother for it.
  • Tears of Remorse: When Youta demands to know why Yuuya saved them despite all they've done to him, Yuuya answers he saved them because they're his family despite everything. Upon hearing this, both Youta and Sora are reduced to sobbing wrecks.
  • This Is Unforgivable!: They did not take Yuuya being accepted into Ousei Academy well and conspire with the Red Ogres to humiliate him in front of his new classmates.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Despite their major role in Yuuya’s torment and lack of self-esteem, the two of them have not made any appearances since their stunt at Ousei with the Red Ogres.

A model that Yuuya worked with when her partner was late.

    Mai Kagurazaka

Mai Kagurazaka

  • Miko: She's introduced watching over the shrine Yuuya and his friends visit for a Kimodameshi. She seems to have actual spiritual powers as she's able to detect the shards of the Evil nearby and combat monsters with her talismans.
  • Paper Talisman: She uses these to combat monsters.
  • Summon Everyman Hero: She ended up in the other world when she was summoned by a ritual. Downplayed on the "everyman" part as she displays actual powers before being summoned, but later improves them when she starts learning magic in the other world.

Ousei Academy

    Kaori Houjou

Kaori Houjou

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/000012.jpg
Ousei Student Council President
Voiced by: Akari Kitou (Japanese), Kelsey Maher (English), Gabriela Pérez (Latin American Spanish)

The wealthy daughter of the Ousei Academy's Board Chairman and the girl Yuuya rescued from some thugs at the beginning of the series.

  • A-Cup Angst: She gets very depressed when she realizes Miu, Kaede, and Sawada all have a bigger bust than her and despairs at the thought that Yuuya might prefer girls with a bigger chest.
  • Class Princess: She has the background as the daughter of the school board's chairman, and the kind personality to match her looks. She's even referred to as "Princess" by some students.
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: Only when playing sports. She injured her own partner during a mixed doubles tennis match, and when playing with Yuuya she accidentally tosses her racket across the court, almost hitting him and a photographer near the fence.
  • Damsel in Distress: How Yuuya first meets her. She's being accosted by two Red Ogre thugs, and Yuuya's intervention keeps them preoccupied long enough for someone to call the police.
    • It happens again when the Red Ogres attack Ousei Academy and try to kidnap her.
  • Everyone Has Standards: She refuses to allow Youta and Sora to attend Ousei, much less consider the idea, as she had a background check performed on Yuuya to find out about his character. She found their abhorrent treatment towards him and other students to be enough reason to reject their request.
  • Lonely Rich Kid: Her status as the Class President and daughter of the Academy's Board Chairman means people tend to keep her on a pedestal they don't approach. Taking Yuuya to the comercial street in Episode 2 is the first time she's been there with a friend.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: She encouraged Yuuya to come to her Academy despite himself believing he wasn't worthy, as well as declined to allow his younger siblings from coming despite their high academic grades and skills as her background check revealed how much of a jerk both of them are.
  • Recognition Failure: Subverted. Despite Yuuya having gone through one hell of a makeover, Kaori was still able to recognize him as the overweight boy who saved her from the Red Ogres some time ago and tracks him down.
  • Rescue Romance: While he got the shit kicked out of him for his troubles, it's obvious to everyone that Kaori developed quite the crush on Yuuya for saving her from the Red Ogres.
  • Secret-Keeper: She's the first inhabitant of the real world whom Yuuya reveals the secret of the other world, and even accompanies him on his adventures starting from Volume 5.
  • Spoiled Sweet: She is extremely wealthy and is the only daughter of the Academy's Board Chairman, but she is a very sweet and nice girl.
  • Student Council President: Of her school, and well-beloved by her classmates.
  • Took a Level in Badass: After she convinces Yuuya to let her visit the other world, she starts leveling up by hunting monsters like he did.

    Tsukasa Houjou

Tsukasa Houjou

The Board Chairman of Ousei Academy and father of Kaori.

  • Good Parents: From what is seen, he loves his daughter dearly, and despite ofen being busy with work he does his best to look out for her wellbeing. It goes without saying that he's very grateful to Yuuya for saving her not once, but twice.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Like his daughter, he encourages Yuuya to believe in himself and think about what it is he wants out of life rather than allow his low self-esteem to hang over his head.

    Ryou Igarashi

  • Nice Guy: He's quick to save Yuuya from being overwhelmed by their classmates, and is quick to show him the ropes in the academy.

  • Smart People Wear Glasses: He seems to be the most studious among their circle of friends, and is the only one who wears glasses.

    Akira Ichinose

Akira Ichinose

Another of Yuuya's classmates, he's a tad conceited but a nice guy overall.

  • Epic Fail: His "special move" when playing football is so bad that it goes wildly offside, nearly hitting Kaede.
  • Large Ham: He is quite intense when expressing himself.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: He claims people call him the "noble". Ryou replies that he's never heard anyone call Akira that way.
    Rie Sawada

Rie Sawada

Voiced by: Manami Numakura (Japanese), Anastasia Muñoz (English)

A science teacher in Class 1-B at Ousei Academy.

  • Brutal Honesty: She happily declares that she gets cash from the school whenever her class wins a competition.
  • Buxom Beauty Standard: She's quite busty, and at one point during the trip she gives Yuuya some Marshmallow Hell.
  • Cool Teacher: She's pretty well-liked by the students, and according to Chairman Hojou also a very respected eminence on her field.
  • Hot Teacher: Yuuya is quite surprised by her looks when she appears for the first time. And there's the time he sees her working at her parents' beach house wearing an apron over a bikini.
  • In Vino Veritas: During the school trip in Volume 2, she ends up getting drunk and says out loud that she wants to marry Yuuya, just so she can eat the food he makes every day.
  • Labcoat of Science and Medicine: Given her subject is science, it makes sense she wears one.
  • Sensei-chan: She has shades of this, as while her students generally like and respect her, she's constantly prodding them into doing well so she can earn her bonus.

    Yukine Hyoudou

Yukine Hyoudou

Voiced by: Shizuka Ishigami (Japanese), Francine Gonzalez (English)

A student in Class 1-B of Ousei Academy, whom Yuuya ends up sitting next to. She's a member of the Occult Club.

  • A-Cup Angst: Like Kaori, she's envious of Kaede and Sawada's large chests.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: She has an interest in the occult, which Kaede finds terrifying.
  • Non Conformist Dyed Hair: Her hair is black with several dyed blue streaks all over.
  • The Stoic: She almost always maintains a neutral expression. Yuuya actually thought he may have offended her because of this.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: Despite her aloof appearance, she's actually a sweet and nice girl, just too shy to express it.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: In Volume 6, she finds a grimoire that supposedly would allow her to summon a demon, but failed after she tried to use it. Turns out it summoned a shard of the Evil from the other world that began to possess her, but was exorcized by Kagurazaka before it could take her over.

     Kaede Kazama

Kaede Kazama

Voiced by: Ayana Taketatsu (Japanese), Katie Welch (English), Nadia Lujambo (Latin American Spanish)

Another student in Ousei Academy who becomes interested in Yuuya, and Yukine's best friend. She's part of the female track team.

  • Buxom Beauty Standard: She's pretty well-endowed. She's often teased by Rin because of this.
  • Genki Girl: She's very outgoing and energetic, always eager to approach people.
  • Rescue Romance: She was already smitten with Yuuya when he arrived to the academy, but what really sealed it was him saving her from falling off when a soccer ball was kicked in her direction. The anime downplays it as he just stops the ball from hitting her, but it's still enough to impress her.

    Rin Kanzaki

Rin Kanzaki

Voiced by: Mai Nakahara (Japanese), Veronica Laux (English), Denisse Leguizamo (Latin American Spanish)

  • Shipper on Deck: She's quick to recognize her friends' obvious attraction towards Yuuya, and even jokes about him making a harem often.
  • The Tease: She loves to engage in Skinship Grope with Kaede, often teasing her for her large chest.

    Lexia von Arceria

Lexia von Arceria

The First Princess of the Kingdom of Arceria. She was rescued by Yuuya from both assassins and monsters and gained a crush on him.

  • Brainless Beauty: Pretty but lacking in common sense. Examples include dragging her knights along into a forest crawling with high level monsters just to find the boy she was crushing on, openly introduces her new bodyguard Luna as the one who tried to assassinate her, and making Yuuya take her out on a date after finding out her own brother was the one who tried to have her assassinated three times.
  • Cain and Abel: The Abel to her brother's Cain. At least at first.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Downplayed. She becomes very jealous when she learns Luna trained with Yuuya in private and thinks the two have good chemistry. Despite that, she becomes fast friends with Luna.
  • Comically Missing the Point: Or she just chooses to ignore her excuses to try and get Lexia and Yuuya to kill her. When Luna explains her Dark and Troubled Past to them and attempts to convince the two to kill her lest she comes after them again, Lexia thinks the whole talk is Luna trying to flirt with Yuuya and shuts down all of Luna's attempts to convince her to kill her.
  • Engaging Conversation: The first thing she tells Yuuya is to ask him to marry her.
  • Half-Breed Discrimination: She's half-elf, and as a result, she's held in contempt by the rest of the nobility.
  • Loophole Abuse:
    • Since only Lexia and Yuuya know Luna is the assassin who tried to kill her, and Owen never saw Luna's face, she uses this as an excuse to hire Luna on as an escort and bodyguard. Subverted almost immediately when Luna tells Owen her newest bodyguard tried to kill her moments ago.
    • She later exploits this again to attend Ousei Academy with Yuuya, arguing that there's nothing new she can learn about their world in the royal academy her father wants to send her to, but she could learn a lot from Yuuya's world in Ousei Academy.
  • Love at First Sight: Coupled with Rescue Romance. Upon realizing she did not hallucinate her mysterious black-haired savior, she fell in love with him. She fell even harder when she sees him again and he saves her and Owen.
  • Power Incontinence: Due to her half-elf blood, she has a large amount of magical power she has difficulty controlling. In her youth, she accidentally hurt her half-brother when her magic power went out of control.
  • Rescue Romance: She initially wrote Yuuya off as a hallucination until Owen told her he noticed an unknown presence lingering in the area when he found her, which results in her developing a crush on her unknown savior and wanting to meet him. When Yuuya saves her again, she flat-out asks him to marry her.
  • Thinks Like a Romance Novel: When Yuuya points out that her eagerness to marry him is too rushed, she then starts talking about how in the romance novels true love always has to overcome many hurdles, settling down for being just friends for the time being.
  • The Von Trope Family: Lexia Von Arceria.
  • Top Wife: While she seems okay allowing Yuuya to be with or marry other women (at least, she does not object to Luna making advances on him), she makes it clear she wants this spot for herself.

    Owen

Owen

Voiced by: Masaki Terasoma (Japanese)

Lexia's bodyguard and one of the few survivors from the ill-fated attack on her life at the start of the story.

  • Only Sane Man: Between King Arnold's overprotectiveness and Lexia's lovestruck attitude towards Yuuya, he's often forced into this role, much to his chagrin.

    Arnold von Alceria

Arnold von Alceria

Voiced by: Akio Ōtsuka (Japanese), Tyson Rinehart (English)

The current king of the Alceria kingdom and Lexia’s father.

  • Boyfriend-Blocking Dad: He is not amused when he learns Lexia proposed to Yuuya, who saved her life twice in the Demon's Den. He even busts out with his sword and demands Yuuya's head for daring to seduce her.
  • Comically Missing the Point: He wants Yuuya's head on a platter, completely ignoring the fact that Lexia proposed to him.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Which Owen tries and fails to keep in check.
  • The Von Trope Family: Arnold Von Alceria.

    Rhaegar von Alceria

Rhaegar von Alceria

Voiced by: Ryuichi Kijima (Japanese)

The Second Prince of Alceria kingdom and Lexia’s older brother, who is trying to murder her.

  • Cain and Abel: The Cain to Lexia's Abel. At least at first.
  • Easily Forgiven: Subverted. While Lexia forgives him for trying to kill her, he's still stripped of his lands and royal privileges.
  • Facial Horror: He wears a mask to cover the horrific burn scars he suffered due to an accident involving his sister's magic. Yuuya eventually heals him.
  • Freudian Excuse: The reason why he's trying to murder his sister? She accidentally burned him with her magic, leaving scars all over his body and face, and his father had him hidden because of this. He got filled with hatred for his family because of this.
  • The Von Trope Family: Rhaegar Von Alceria.

    Luna

Head Hunter
Voiced by: Ai Kakuma (Japanese), Madeleine Morris (English), Krishna Tapia (Latin American Spanish)
A young woman Yuuya met while training in the Great Devil’s Nest. She is also known as the Head Hunter, a feared assassin hired by the second prince to kill Lexia and her mysterious protector, who unbeknownst to her is her new friend Yuuya.

  • Bathing Beauty: Likes to keep herself clean by bathing in natural water sources. However, this habit backfires when she's caught off-guard by a horde of goblins. She later enjoys Yuuya's portable furo/hot tub.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: As soon as she takes notice of Lexia's interest in Yuuya, she does her best to keep them apart and even becomes more active in making advances on him.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Before she became the Head Hunter, Luna was an orphan who did everything she could to survive and was picked up by a master assassin belonging to a Dark Guild.
  • The Dreaded: She has a fearsome reputation in the kingdom's criminal underworld, and the second prince is terrified to so much as cross her when he hires her.
  • Evil Former Friend: Downplayed. She befriended Yuuya after he saved her from being killed in the Demon's Den, and even trained with him. She had no idea Yuuya was the one who protected Lexia until she saw him with her, and despite her attempts to kill the both of them, they forgive her and accept her as a friend.
  • Fashionable Asymmetry: Wears a single long stocking on her left leg.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Lexia hires her as her new bodyguard. While she's confused at first, she does ultimately accept the position and becomes very close to Lexia.
  • Hitman with a Heart: Despite being an assassin, Yuuya is able to judge she's a good person at heart and offers her a chance to redeem herself, even after she tried to kill him and Lexia.
  • In Love with the Mark: An unintentional example. She had no idea Yuuya was her target when they first met. After she finds out she does try to kill him, but fails and ultimately abandons it.
  • Kill and Replace: She killed her master and mentor when he broke the rules of the Dark Guild, and later succeeded him after proving her skills.
  • Pervert Revenge Mode: Subverted. She went into the bath, knowing full well Yuuya was still in it, and even told him to take the bath first, and when he admits he did see her naughty bits after her robe fell to the ground, she merely settles for glaring at him but doesn't enact any sort of physical retribution against him.
  • Razor Floss: Her weapon of choice. She's skilled enough to slice through several trees with ease.
  • Red Baron: To the criminal underworld, Luna is best known as the "Head Hunter".
  • Samus Is a Girl: In the source novel, she's introduced in her guise as an infamous male assassin but shortly after is revealed to be a woman.
  • Sherlock Scan: She quickly figures that her client is a noble from his unblemished skin and further deduces he's an intermediary for the prince who wants his half-sister dead.
  • These Hands Have Killed: Luna feels this is why she cannot be friends with Yuuya or accept Lexia's offer of becoming her bodyguard, claiming she's killed too many people and that they'll likely be targeted by the Dark Guild if she stays with them after her failure. Yuuya doesn't care and Lexia practically ignores her words and basically shanghai her into becoming her bodyguard.

The Holy

    As a Whole
The defenders of the Planet, the Holy (also known individually as Saints), are to ones who fight against the malice and negativity of the world. Each Saint is widely considered the best at their particular tool or weapon, far above anyone else in the world.

    The Sage

The Sage/Zenovis

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/000019.jpg
The Sage's remains
The original owner of Yuuya’s house in the Other World, and the one who made the powerful items and equipment that rest inside. In life, he was an incredible person who was offered the chance to become a god, but refused, preferring to die as a human. His skeleton was found by Yuuya in a cave, where he received the Sage’s Magic Circuit and with it the ability to use magic.
  • The Ace: In life, the Sage had the ability to do anything, from smithing, to cooking, to magic, and could master everything he tried without effort. All of the overpowered items in Yuuya’s home were created by him. He was so good at what he did, the gods themselves offered to make him one of them.
  • A God I Am Not: He ultimately rejected the gods' offer to become a god himself, preferring he die a human.
  • Hero of Another Story: The Sage’s deeds are numerous and insane. What we do know of him includes defeating the Genesis Dragon, creating all manner of overpowered items, befriended the consciousness of the Planet itself, becoming the original guardian of the Planet before the Holy existed and even creating a magic that can connect to other worlds. All of this was millennia before Yuuya was even born.
  • Identical Stranger: As shown in the Time Travel arc in Volume 10, his younger self looks very similar to Yuuya, albeit with light hair and eyes.
  • Posthumous Character: Yuuya discovers his corpse in a cave within the Demon's Den, and if the fact he's a skeleton is of any indication, he's been dead for a very long time. We do later get to see him alive later on, thanks to Yuuya being sent into the past and meeting him when he was young.

    Usagi

Usagi

Voiced by: Kazuhiko Inoue (Japanese)
A white rabbit that Yuuya runs into while he and his familiars wander deeper into the forest. Contrary to his appearance and stats, he is not helpless or weak in the least.
  • Badass Adorable: He's a small white bunny rabbit. Should you find yourself on the other end of his rear paw, however, you will find out that he is absolutely not to be trifled with.
  • A Dog Named "Dog": "Usagi" means "Rabbit" in Japanese.
  • Kick Chick: Usagi is male, but he's spent countless years perfecting his technique to the point where he can manhandle a monster with stats ranging in the thousands and was giving Yuuya and his familiars trouble while Usagi's own stats are subpar and even lower than Yuuya's.
  • Light Is Good: He has pure white fur, and is one of the Holy. He even wants to teach Yuuya how to perform a "proper kick".
  • Weak, but Skilled: His stats and Level are utterly abysmal, yet despite this he is easily able to hold his own against a monster that even Yuuya was struggling to kill.

    Yuty

Yuty

Voiced by: Rina Hidaka (Japanese), Uku Leili (English)
Another of the Holy, and the former Bow Saint's disciple. She's apparently been corrupted by the Evil.
  • Aloof Archer: She's the former disciple of the Bow Saint, and is very aloof and cold.
  • Combat Clairvoyance: Her battling style revolves around predicting her opponent's moves and firing her arrows accordingly. This lets her put even Yuuya on the ropes.
  • Defeat Equals Friendship: After Yuuya defeats her and purges the Evil from her, she becomes his housemate, and even starts going to Ousei Academy on Earth.
  • Energy Bow: Her main weapon that lets her fire hundreds of energy arrows at once.
  • Final Boss: Of the anime.
  • Innocent Fanservice Girl: She doesn't seem to have any sense of modesty, as she asks Yuuya to undress her to bathe (her master apparently did it for her), and later when he takes her shopping she gets out of the dresser in underwear just to ask him for his opinion.
  • It Is Beyond Saving: Despite being one of the Holy, she believes that the world isn't worth saving. The influence of the Evil corrupting her seems to have something to do with it.
  • The Man Behind the Man: To Rhaegar.
  • More than Mind Control: How the Evil seemed to corrupt her, by amplifying her feelings of anger towards the death of her master, and directing it to all humanity as a whole.
  • No Social Skills: To say she's lacking in social graces is an understatement, to say the least.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: Her goal is to kill pretty much everyone she deems as "worthless" (which is to say, everyone in general).
  • Sacrificed Basic Skill for Awesome Training: A superb archer as it would be expected from the disciple of the Bow Saint, she lacks knowledge and common sense of things as basic as bathing.
  • Straw Nihilist: Believes that neither the world nor the people in them deserve to live. She abandons it once Yuuya purges the Evil out of her.
  • White Hair, Black Heart: At first, until Yuuya defeats her and purges the Evil from her.

    Iris Knowblade

Iris Knowblade

A noblewoman from the kingdom of Regal, and the current Sword Saint. She's considered one of the strongest among the Holy.

  • All Amazons Want Hercules: She decided that she wouldn't marry unless she met a man able to best her in combat. Yuuya is the first who is able to hold his own against her, and while he doesn't beat her (due to their duel being interrupted), she seems to be impressed enough by his strength to consider him worthy despite their age gap.
  • Master Swordswoman: She's the Sword Saint, after all.
  • Through His Stomach: She's a great cook, and often tries to win Yuuya over by cooking for him.

    Archer Arrow

Archer Arrow

The former Bow Saint, and Yuty's deceased mentor.

  • Meaningful Name: Can't get more obvious than "Archer" for given name and "Arrow" for surname.
  • Parental Substitute: She found Yuty when she was an infant, and took to raise and train her by herself.
  • Posthumous Character: She's been dead for some time when the story begins. Yuuya meets her spirit when he visits the Underworld in Volume 12.
