     Ia Cocha

The most infamous criminal in the galaxy. She is captured by the United Commonwealth and forced into military service.
  • Ace Pilot: She's very skilled at flying. Ia easily passed the cadets' flight exam, and flew the Harix Corridor in fifteen seconds.
  • Action Girl: Ia is an experienced fighter, and can take on many larger opponents.
  • Cain and Abel: After her brother Einn tries to kill her and starts his own plan, Ia plays the Abel to his Cain as she tries to stop him.
  • The Dreaded: She's feared across the galaxy. The Aphelion cadets have a Mass "Oh, Crap!" once they learn she'll be training with them.
  • Heroic BSoD: After Einn almost kills her with his powers, Ia briefly gives up, thinking it's impossible to fight him.
  • The Hero Dies: At the end of the second book, she is wounded fatally fighting Einn, and is pulled into the black hole Aokonic.
  • Iconic Item: Her helmet with the red feather is dreaded by people everywhere.
  • I Have Many Names: Ia is also known as The Blood Wolf of the Skies, the Sovereign of Dead Space, the Hunter of the Wastelands, and a Warrior of the Fighting Planets.
  • The Most Wanted: She's the most wanted criminal in the galaxy, until she gets caught.
  • Red Baron: See I Have Many Names, above.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The red to her brother's blue. She's reckless and brash, while he's quieter and more calculating.
  • Samus Is a Girl: In-universe. The United Commonwealth assumed Ia Cocha was a man before her capture.
  • Sweet Tooth: She enjoys sweets, particularly chocofluff.
  • Trading Bars for Stripes: After the outlaw is captured, she's given a choice between going to Moon 42 or joining the Star Force.
     Brinn Tarver 
A half-Tawny cadet, and Ia's roommate.
  • Anti-Villain: After joining Einn, she still has a moral compass and is uncertain about some of Einn's actions, and pulls a Heel–Face Turn at the end.
  • Face–Heel Turn: After her brother dies, she loses faith in the Commonwealth and joins Einn.
  • Fantastic Racism: Many Citizens discriminate against Tawnies, which is why Brinn dyes her hair to hide that it's naturally blue (a trait of the Tawnies).
  • Healing Factor: Being half-Tawny, she's able to heal much faster than the other characters.
  • Heel Realization: Near the end of the second book, Brinn realizes she was wrong to join Einn and shoots him to save Ia.
  • Important Haircut: At the end of the first book, she cuts her hair, exposing the blue roots. This indicates that she's stopped hiding her Tawny heritage.
  • Shy Blue-Haired Girl: Brinn is rather self-conscious and timid. Her hair is also naturally blue.
  • The Smart Girl: Brinn is very good with computers, math, and engineering. She's also an adept planner.
  • Teen Genius: Brinn is advanced in math and computers.

     Knives Adams 
A flight instructor at Aphelion.
     Einn 
Ia’s brother and partner in crime.
  • A God Am I: In the second book, it’s revealed he believes himself to be essentially a god.
  • Big Bad: After going rogue in the first book, he becomes the main antagonist.
  • Cain and Abel: He decides to kill Ia and start his own plan, playing Cain to her Abel.
  • The Man Behind the Man: He’s the mastermind behind most of Ia’s plans.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: He’s the calculating blue to Ia’s reckless red.
  • Thinking Up Portals: He can summon portals at will, and uses this ability to fight.
