U.A. High School

Class 1-A

    Ochaco Uraraka — Uravity

Ochaco Uraraka

Quirk: Zero Gravity

U.A. Class Status: 1-A Hero Class

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/uraraka.png

An outgoing young girl who befriends Midoriya after he saves her during the entrance exam. Her Quirk is "Zero Gravity," which lets her reduce the gravitational pull of anything she touches to zero.

  • Adaptational Badass: Thanks to Majima teaching her hand-to-hand, Uraraka develops her own fighting style that lets her defeat Todoroki going all out and using his flames during the Sports Festival! She also learns Armament and Observation Heat, which lets her easily deal with Ectoplasm during the First Term final exams.
  • Affectionate Nickname: While it was an insult at the time, Izuku allows her to call him Deku after she explains what she thought it meant. She begins to drop it, though, as she realizes how much the name hurts him.
  • Blood Knight: She evolves into one due to her training with Majima and Taiga, jumping into fights ready to take on the strongest opponents.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: While she's not aware of the "why" yet, she does develop an immense desire to knock Hatsume's lights out every time the girl says she'll marry Izuku.
  • Hidden Depths: She's a seriously good skater, as she proves during the Sports Festival.
  • Nice Girl: She is a generally sweet person and is kind to everyone she meets.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: She gives Patroka the Steely Dan treatment during their fight at the Training Camp.
  • Oblivious Mockery: Ochaco is oblivious to insulting people. She insults Izuku twice by openly calling him plain (though she later admits she didn't mean to) and calling him Deku, oblivious to the insulting context or the clear disdain of the person using it, which has unknowingly earned her the ire of Mythra and Nia.
  • Oblivious to Love: She had no clue she was developing a crush on Izuku until Pyra pointed it out. As such, while she is invited to join Pyra's harem plan, she takes a raincheck until she can sort out her own feelings.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Unlike in canon, where they are close friends, Ochako has a much more strained relationship with Tsuyu, due to the latter's remarks about Izuku's ties to the yakuza. Because of that, when they are paired together for the finals, Ochako is not happy about it, and rejects Tsuyu's request to use her given name. However, the pair of them still work together effectively and manage to pass quite easily.
  • Undying Loyalty: Actually attempted to fight the police after Nia turned herself in to rescue her, with Iida having to keep her back.

    Tenya Iida — Ingenium

Tenya Iida

Quirk: Engine

U.A. Class Status: 1-A Hero Class

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/iida.png
Click here to see his hero costume

The scion of the Iida family of Heroes, he's incredibly uptight and has the highest expectations for himself and his peers. He and Izuku get off on the wrong foot when they get into a spat just before the U.A. Entrance Exam, but they become friends when classes start. His Quirk, "Engine", gives him literal engines in his legs that grant him Super-Speed.

  • Achievements in Ignorance: He avoids falling for Shinso's trap during the Sports Festival simply because he decided not to call him out as he did to Izuku at the Entrance Exam.
  • Berserk Button: Insulting his friends, especially Izuku, is guarantee to get a Heat-infused kick, as Shishikura found out during the License Exam.
  • Bizarre Human Biology: Although his Quirk looks mechanical, it's actually an organic combustion engine that runs off of fuel produced by his body.
  • Character Development: After meeting Camie, he becomes more relaxed and willing to have fun with others.
  • The Comically Serious: As in canon, so is he here. Though sometimes his over-seriousness does come off as grating rather than comedic.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: His one-sided match against Shishikura evolves into this when the Shiketsu student presses his Berserk Button and insults Izuku. Tenya promptly knocks him out with a single kick.
  • Curb Stomp Cushion: His match in the Sports Festival is against Bakugou, who breaks his leg in less than two minutes, but Iida breaks three of his ribs using Recipro Burst beforehand.
  • Just Toying with Them: He wasn't actually putting enough effort during his "fight" against Shishikura, but once the arrogant student pisses him off enough, Tenya is quick to dispatch him.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: Gives one to Shishikura while fighting him:
Tenya: The only bastard I see is the rat with the gall to insult a great man like Tensei! Now, let me put this to you in a way you'll understand! In a moment, I'll make you look worse than any flesh potato you ever created with that repulsive quirk of yours!

    Shoto Todoroki — Liebe

Shoto Todoroki — Liebe

Quirk: Half-Cold Half-Hot

U.A. Class Status: 1-A Hero Class

One of 1-A's two recommended students and the son of the Number Two Hero, Endeavor. His Quirk, "Half-Cold and Half-Hot", lets him emit incredible ice from his right side and searing flames from his left.

  • Adaptational Name Change: Instead of just using his name like in canon, Shoto goes with Liebe, German for "love".
  • AM/FM Characterization: He plays Hood Mentality by Ice Cube before fighting against the Seijin Academy students.
  • Combo Platter Powers: Can control both ice and fire, although he refuses to use the latter for personal reasons.
  • Graceful Loser: He takes his loss to Uraraka pretty well.
  • Comically Missing the Point: He tries to give Dabi a Pet the Dog moment by saying that if girls can think he is attractive despite his own scar, Dabi will probably find someone eventually. Poor Shoto is missing out on the fact his scar is nothing compared to Dabi's Body Horror looks, and this prompts his jealous brother to furiously attack him back.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Gives one to Dabi during the Training Camp arc. Not only his ice is strong enough to withstand Dabi's flames thanks to imbuing Heat on it, Shoto beats Dabi repeatedly in close quarters.
  • Happily Adopted: Played for Laughs. Pyra, after learning of Todoroki's jealousy of Poppi having someone like Izuku as a father figure, offers for her, Mythra, and Izuku to become his new moms and dad. He graciously accepts.
  • Heroic RRoD: He locks up during his fight with Uraraka from overuse of his ice side. It isn't until he begins to use fire that he recovers.
  • Meaningful Name: Shoto says he spent too long living on hatred, for himself, Endeavor, and his Quirk, so now he will pick a name that means "love" to show he is letting go of this hatred.
  • Not So Stoic: He's clearly shaken that Nia killed Theory's Driver, as well as Theory's last request before she returns to her Core Crystal.
  • I Reject Your Reality: He refuses to accept the fact that Endeavor is genuinely sorry for his atrocious behaviour and simply wants his son to be happy, no matter how much the flame hero tries to convince him of this.
  • Self-Serving Memory: Endeavor reveals that his son's recollection of his childhood isn't completely accurate. For one thing, the domestic violence between him and Rei was not one-sided (he actually has a large frostbite scar on his torso), and for another thing, Rei was a willing participant in the Quirk Marriage and was the one who pushed to have more kids after their second.

    Mina Ashido — Alien Queen

Mina Ashido — Alien Queen

Quirk: Acid

U.A. Class Status: 1-A Hero Class

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mina_ashido_full_body_school_uniform_4.png
Click here to see her hero costume

Behind an alien-like appearance lies an emotional and excitable girl who can produce corrosive liquid through her skin thanks to her Quirk, "Acid": she can manipulate the pH and viscosity of the fluid, but going too far can damage her skin.

  • Acid Attack: Her Quirk. She can control the pH and viscosity of the fluid she secretes from her skin, meaning it can be highly acidic and thick or barely acidic and slippery.
  • Adaptational Name Change: Unlike canon, Mina's original idea for a hero name, Ridley Hero: Alien Queen, actually sticks because everyone approved, with Midnight eventually relenting.
  • Amazing Technicolor Population: Her skin is bright pink as a result of acid buildup.
  • Cute Monster Girl: An attractive, female humanoid... something.
  • Harem Seeker: Downplayed, as she mentions being poly. She is interested in joining Pyra's harem plan for Izuku but decides to wait a little bit.
  • The Tease: Loves to play and flirt with her classmates, Izuku in particular.

    Kyoka Jiro

Kyoka Jiro

Quirk: Earphone Jack

U.A. Class Status: 1-A Hero Class

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kyoka_jiro_full_body_uniform_3.png
Click here to see her hero costume

An aloof, sarcastic, tomboyish but unexpectedly prudish student whose Quirk, "Earphone Jack", takes the form of elongated earlobes ending in jack plugs, which she can extend and plug into objects to catch extremely faint sounds or channel the sound of her own heartbeat into them in the form of powerful vibrations. She is a talented musician and is especially fond of rock music.

  • Bizarre Human Biology: Similar to Ida and his leg mufflers, Jiro has actual earphone jacks as part of her body, which she inherited from her mother. She can even plug them into her cellphone and listen to music.
  • Sensor Character: In team situations, she usually uses her Quirk to plug her jacks into walls or floors to listen for oncoming enemies. This allows her to hear Izuku's "The Reason You Suck" Speech to Shinso and what kind of things Izuku had endured due to him being Quirkless.

    Tsuyu Asui — Froppy

Tsuyu Asui

Quirk: Frog

U.A. Class Status: 1-A Hero Class

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/asui.png
Click here to see her hero costume

A young girl whose strange appearance is caused by her Quirk, "Frog", which allows her to do pretty much anything a frog can, including jump quite long distances, swim with extreme agility, and extend her tongue like a flexible steel cable.

  • Adaptational Jerkass: A mild example compared to the likes of Aizawa and Shinso, but her canon tendency towards bluntness and speaking what's on her mind is portrayed in a much more negative light, due to her voicing her thoughts regarding Izuku's relatives (one of them a former yakuza), as well as some of the suspicious circumstances around him, which leads to her alienating several of her classmates, especially Izuku's girlfriends.
  • Cute Monster Girl: She's a frog and she's adorable.
  • First-Name Basis: Insists on asking people to call her Tsuyu. Ochako deliberately chooses to call her by her family name to make it clear she dislikes her statements on Izuku's relatives.

    Toru Hakagure

Toru Hagakure

Quirk: Invisibility

U.A. Class Status: 1-A Hero Class

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/toru_hagakure_full_body_uniform_0.png
Click here to see her hero costume

A bubbly and cheerful girl whose Quirk, "Invisibility", renders her entire body permanently invisible. She is usually seen as a set of seemingly floating clothes — or in the case of her hero costume, just a pair of floating gloves and shoes. Because of this, she often jokes about her condition and can get away with states of undress no visible human could dream of trying in public.

  • Battle Strip: When fully nude, she can make the best use of her Quirk.
  • Invisible Streaker: Her hero costume (if it can even be called that) consists of a pair of gloves and shoes. She later gets a costume that actually becomes invisible.

    Eijiro Kirishima

Eijiro Kirishima

Quirk: Hardening

U.A. Class Status: 1-A Hero Class

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kirishima2.png
Click here to see his hero costume

Class 1-A's friendliest and most Hot-Blooded member, he is always working to become 'manlier' and a better hero. His Quirk, "Hardening", allows him to make his body more resistant to any type of attack.

  • Apple of Discord: His inability to see Bakugou as the horrible person he is, combined with his recklessness during the USJ incident making things worse, causes a rift between him and the rest of 1-A.
  • Black-and-White Morality: Tends to think in this way. To him, Bakugo is manly and therefore good, due to him being a strong heroics student ignoring the fact that he is a bully, while Goro Majima and Taiga are bad due to taking part in the USJ attack, ignoring the fact that they saw it as wrong, helped the students during said attack and are trying to do better in life.
  • Butt-Monkey: Kirishima being enamored with Bakugou and being unable to see him as the horrible person he is has resulted in him being the butt of mockery with him being publicly called a butt-kisser, or a simp for Bakugou.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: His defense of and association with Bakugou has caused a rift between him and the rest of the class sans Bakugou due to Bakugou being such an obviously horrible person and yet Kirishima being too blind to see it.
  • Heel Realization: Seeing Bakugo nearly killing Reiko during their match causes him to realize he was on the wrong side of the situation, and after the festival begins to work out how to atone for his errors.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: He thinks Bakugo is "manly", to start. In fact, he's so enamored by Bakugo that he's convinced himself that Izuku is the bully in their relationship. He seems to have finally realized he was wrong after Bakugo's brutal beating of Reiko.
  • Nice Guy: He is friendly to everyone, even Bakugo, who constantly blows him off.

  • Hormone-Addled Teenager: He got into heroics because he thought it would help him score with girls and keeps trying to perv on the other girls in class.

    Hanta Sero

Class 1-A's resident Chuunibyou, his head makes him look like a raven. His Quirk, "Dark Shadow", manifests as a shadowy monster that inhabits his body, and that he can summon to fight on his behalf.

    Mezo Shoji

Mezo Shoji

Quirk: Dupli-Arms

U.A. Class Status: 1-A Hero Class

1-A's tallest member, he is intimidating but quite friendly. His Quirk, "Dupli-Arms", gives him six arm-shaped tentacles that can replicate any part of his body into them. Always wears a mask for personal reasons.

Class 1-B

    Itsuka Kendo

Itsuka Kendo

Quirk: Big Fist

U.A. Class Status: 1-B Hero Class

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/itsuka_kendo_anime.png

Class 1-B's class representative, a tomboyish girl who often has to keep Monoma in check. Her Quirk allows her to enlarge her hands, with their strength growing proportionally to their size.

  • Dope Slap: Her go-to weapon to keep Monoma in check.
  • Team Mom: Class 1-B's class representative, and for the most part in charge of making sure they behave.

    Neito Monoma

Neito Monoma

Quirk: Copy

U.A. Class Status: 1-B Hero Class

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/neito_monoma_anime.png

The condescending self-proclaimed leader of Class 1-B. His Quirk, "Copy", allows him to copy the Quirk of anyone he touches and use it for five minutes.

  • The Friend Nobody Likes: No one in 1-B likes his antics involving his ego and his Irrational Hatred of 1-A. Especially after his plan, listed below, causes one of his classmates to lose the first event in the Sports Festival. This forces him to team up with Bakugo, Kirishima, and Todoroki in the second event, as no one wants to team up with them.
  • Insane Troll Logic: He somehow believes that 1-A wanted to get attacked by villains, just so they could hog the spotlight. Not to mention his "plan" to "steal the spotlight from 1-A" basically involves not standing out.
  • Tsundere: A non-romantic variant in later chapters in that he can actually get along quite cordially with the members of 1-A when the rest of the school isn’t watching, but publicly maintains his antagonism towards them as a front. At one point, Izuku even asks him if he wants to end the very civil conversation they are having by making his usual bombastic declarations of superiority, which prompts Monoma to thank Izuku and immediately follow through.
  • You Remind Me of X: The Second Torchbearer is reminded of All for One when he sees him.
  • Villain Respect: While it's true he hates Class 1-A, he earns some respect from them when Monoma asks Izuku to win against Bakugo in the Sports Festival Finale after how badly he beat Reiko.

    Pony Tsunotori

Pony Tsunotori

Quirk: Horn Cannon

U.A. Class Status: 1-B Hero Class

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pony_tsunotori_anime.png

A Class 1-B girl who transferred to U.A. from America. She has horse-like legs and horns on her head. Her Quirk, "Horn Cannon", allows her to shoot her horns as projectiles, which regrow almost immediately, as well as telekinetically control up to four horns at once.

  • Sensor Character: Not normally, but she does have enhanced hearing due to her horse mutation. This allows her to hear Izuku's "The Reason You Suck" Speech to Shinso and what kind of things Izuku had endured due to him being Quirkless.

    Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu

Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu

Quirk: Steel

U.A. Class Status: 1-B Hero Class

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tetsutetsu_tetsutetsu_anime.png

A hot-headed student from Class 1-B whose Quirk, "Steel", allows him to cover his body with steel.

  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: Instead of developing a friendly rivalry with Kirishima, Tetsutetsu develops one with Iida.
  • Bash Brothers: He develops a friendship with Iida during the first event of the Sports Festival.
  • Meaningful Name: "Tetsu" means steel.note

    Ibara Shiozaki

Ibara Shiozaki

Quirk: Vines

U.A. Class Status: 1-B Hero Class

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ibara_shiozaki_anime.png

A pious, devout Christian girl. Her Quirk, "Vines", turns her hair into long, thorny brambles she can extend and control at her own will.

  • Green Thumb: Her Quirk is "Vines", which manifests as her hair being made of thorny vines. She can control it at will, extend it to restrain enemies, and detach it to form walls of vines. The thorns don't appear to cause major damage, however.
  • Hidden Depths: She plays (Christian) games like Minecraft and, surprisingly, Doom.
  • Logical Weakness: Her Quirk, while powerful, requires her to stay still to use it fully. As such if someone manages to get past her vines, she's vulnerable. At Izuku's suggestion, she begins wrapping her vines around herself to act as armor, à la Bayonetta.
  • Token Religious Teammate: Downplayed given Izuku and the other Drivers all believe in the Architect, but Ibara's a devout Japanese Christian.

    Setsuna Tokage

Setsuna Tokage

Quirk: Lizard Tail Splitter

U.A. Class Status: 1-B Hero Class

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/setsuna_tokage_anime.png

A talkative Class 1-B girl who enrolled in U.A. through recommendations. Her Quirk, "Lizard Tail Splitter", lets her split her body into multiple pieces that she can control independently.

  • Blatant Lies: When Izuku tears off his shirt (again) before his fight with Bakugo in the finals of the Sports Festival, Setsuna uses her Quirk to catch it, claiming she's keeping it safe for Reiko. Her classmates don't believe her since Setsuna is pressing the shirt against her face. Word of God later says that Setsuna never returned it.
  • Exact Eavesdropping: She kept one of her ears disconnected and near the ring during the tournament part of the Sports Festival to hear what was happening. This allows her to hear Izuku's "The Reason You Suck" Speech to Shinso and what kind of things Izuku had endured due to him being Quirkless.

    Jurota Shishida

Jurota Shishida

Quirk: Beast

U.A. Class Status: 1-B Hero Class

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jurota_shishida_anime.png

A wealthy Class 1-B student with a beastly appearance. His Quirk gives him a more bestial form, with increased physical abilities that make him a good fighter.

  • Gentle Giant: His bestial appearance hides his intelligence and gentleness.

    Hiryu Rin

Hiryu Rin

Quirk: Scales

U.A. Class Status: 1-B Hero Class

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hiryuu_rin_anime.png

A foreign student who moved from China to Japan when he was in elementary school. His Quirk, "Scales", allows him to grow hard, dragon-like scales from his skin that he can use as armor or fire as razor-sharp projectiles.

  • Didn't Think This Through: He silently admits that he shouldn't have listened to Monoma's plan, which resulted in him losing the first event of the sports festival.
  • Eye Scream: Gets a face full of non-lethal acid thanks to Ashido during the Sports Festival.

    Kinoko Komori

Kinoko Komori

Quirk: Mushroom

U.A. Class Status: 1-B Hero Class

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kinoko_komori_anime.png

An odd Class 1-B girl who wants to become an idol hero. Her Quirk, "Mushroom", lets her emit spores that can instantly sprout mushrooms, its effectivity depending on the area's humidity.

The Big Three

    Mirio Togata — Lemillion

Mirio Togata

Quirk: Permeation

U.A. Class Status: 3-B Hero Class

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mirio_togata_hero_costume_anime_action.png
Click here to see him in uniform

An older student from Class 3-B, interning under Sir Nighteye, as well as Nighteye's candidate to inherit One for All. Has the Quirk "Permeation", which allows him to become intangible for a short time at the cost of his senses, and when deactivating it he is shot up toward the nearest surface.

  • Oblivious Mockery: When Izuku tells him that the reason he's rejecting Nighteye's internship offer is because someone warned Izuku about Nighteye's... issues, Togata began calling them an idiot along with other similar things... until Pyra said that it was All Might who did so.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Mirio has no idea of Nighteye's true intentions for him.

    Nejire Hadou — Nejire Chan

Quirk: Wave Motion

A smiling and welcoming U.A. student that has a child-like sense of curiosity, interning under Ryukyu. Her Quirk, "Wave Motion", enables her to release her vitality as energy shockwaves, though they lack speed due to coming out in spirals.

General Education

    General
  • I Just Want to Be Badass: At least half of them wanted to be in the hero course, but ended up in general studies for any number of reasons. As such some of them are more than willing to gang up on members of the hero course for a chance to enter it during the Sports Festival.

    Hitoshi Shinso

Hitoshi Shinso

Quirk: Brainwashing

U.A. Class Status: 1-C General Studies Class

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/c_chara_main43_1.png

A boy from the U.A. General Studies course who wants to get into the Hero course.

  • Adaptational Jerkass: He is much more antagonistic to Midoriya and the other members of Class 1-A, the Drivers in particular. It's implied that this is from jealousy that he didn't resonate with a Blade, which he thinks alone would have gotten him in the hero course. During the Scavenger Race, he outright sabotages his classmates by making them destroy the objects they collect that are not on his list.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: He makes a cameo during the entrance exam, with Izuku saving him from some robots.
  • Hypocrite: Claims that Izuku is only in the Hero Course because he relied on Pyra to get through the exam, yet he's implied to be jealous of Drivers because he thinks having a Blade would have gotten him in the hero course, and during the Sports Festival he just takes advantage of the work other students do to get through the events.
  • Lazy Bum: Emphasize on "Lazy".
    • While his Quirk is useful, Shinso relies too much on it and hasn't done any real training, which is why he failed the entrance exam while characters like Hagakure (whose Quirks are just as useless if not more so against robots) passed since they actually took the time to train.
    • His plan for the Scavenger Race is to essentially wait at the gate of the stadium and wait for anyone to come back with an item orb, brainwash them, and if it's on his list, take it. Predictably, this nearly causes him to lose the first event, since all the hero course students were actually focused on the event and ignored him, causing him to only brainwash other general studies or support students.
  • Logical Weakness:
    • Brainwashing requires the target to give a verbal response to Shinso. If you don't answer, he is unable to use his Quirk.
    • Someone he has used Brainwashing on can break out if they get hurt. Izuku keeps One for All running during the fight to keep him in constant pain, preventing Brainwashing from taking hold of him.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: When Hitoshi tries claiming that U.A.'s Heroics Entrance Exams are biased, Izuku retorts that his claims are extremely hollow when Hagakure, whose Quirk only makes her invisible, was able to pass.
  • Sore Loser: Shinso doesn't take his loss in the Sports Festival well, even smacking away the hand that Izuku offered him.
  • Too Dumb to Live: He jumps in front of a speeding Izuku (riding on Nana's hoverboard) in a last-ditch attempt to brainwash him. Had Izuku not jumped over him, Shinso not passing the first event would've been the least of his problems.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Izuku saves him during the Entrance Exam. Shinsou reacts by glaring at him, slapping his hand away, and muttering unflattering things about Izuku.

    Katsuki Bakugo

Katsuki Bakugo

Quirk: Explosion

U.A. Class Status: 1-A Hero Class (formerly)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bakugo.png
Click here to see his hero costume

Izuku's former Childhood Friend and long-time bully. Bakugou has it all: athleticism, great grades, and an extremely powerful Quirk called "Explosion", which lets him turn the sweat his hands expel into nitroglycerin, allowing him to create explosions at will. His genius is only matched by his ego and fiery temper, refusing to let anyone else top him as he sets out to become the Number One Hero. After the Sports Festival, he's kicked out of the Hero course and forced to join General Education.

  • The Ace: Deconstructed. At the start of the series, Bakugo was a skilled Quirk user who was good at just about anything he attempted, including having great grades. This, combined with him being praised by so many people for his luck and talent, meant Bakugo grew up knowing he was this — which made him into a massive jerkass who looks down on everyone else.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: In canon, Bakugo didn't develop his AP Shot move until before the Provisional Hero License Exam. Here he uses it during his match against Reiko during the Sports Festival.
  • Armor-Piercing Attack: His AP (for "Armor-Piercing") Shot, a concentrated explosion aimed through his hand, which he developed to get through a Blade's Ether Barrier.
  • The Berserker: Everything about him, his Quirk, his personality, his costume, his facial expressions, even his hair scream this.
  • Break the Haughty: Bakugo relishes in his life in elementary and middle school and expected U.A. to be the same - which his first encounter with Aizawa seemed to validate. Then came the next day, where All Might (his favorite hero) berates him while defending and complimenting 'useless Deku', and Izuku not only stands up to him but fights and nearly defeats him - and when he tries to use his grenades in spite of All Might's instructions, he gets in great trouble.
  • The Bully: He is a bully, his primary target being Izuku.
  • Demoted to Extra: His behavior during the Sports Festival gets him sent to General Studies.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: The reason for his hatred of Izuku and source of his Inferiority Superiority Complex? Izuku tried to help him when Bakugo fell in a creek when they were six. Practically everyone who hears this is shocked and disgusted for such a petty and asinine reason.
  • Entitled Bastard: Treats everyone like crap, yet still expects the world to bend to his will, not that the people around him did otherwise before he arrived to U.A.
  • Fantastic Racism:
    • He hates Izuku for nothing more than him being Quirkless.
    • He downright hates Pyra and, by extension, other Blades. He even finds Kaminari's relationship with Pandoria disgusting.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Almost everything is like pressing a Berserk Button to him but a few really drive him over the edge.
    • Anyone doing something he interprets as claiming to be better than him.
    • Blades in general.
    • Anything involving "DEKU!!!" (even his existence).
  • Inferiority Superiority Complex: He has a big need to prove himself to everyone, All Might especially, yet deeply fears when someone may outperform him, thus causing him to lash out.
  • The Nicknamer: He doesn't even seem to (want to) know everyone else's names, so he gives insulting nicknames based on people's features.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: While he did have trouble against her at first, Bakugo eventually delivers this to Reiko during their match, one so bad that Reiko needed to be taken to a hospital.
  • The Runaway: He runs away after being demoted to General Studies, going missing for a month before the HPSC finds him to offer him a job.
  • Teeny Weenie: It's made quite clear when he's hit by Izuku's Tiger Drop that Bakugo is not very well-endowed.
Izuku's fist shot forward, colliding with something small – almost microscopic really – and fragile.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: He spent over a decade tormenting Izuku because he tried to help him up when he fell into a creek when they were six. Most of the people who hear about it are disgusted.

    All Might

Toshinori Yagi — All Might

Quirk: Quirkless (formerly One for All)

Blades: Wulfric

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/all_might_hero_form_full_body_9.png
The Symbol of Peace
Click here to see his real self post-injury.

Japan's Greatest Hero, the Symbol of Peace, and Izuku's lifelong idol. His true identity is Toshinori Yagi, which only a select few people know. Years before the main story, Toshinori suffered an injury that took out most of his internal organs. As a result, he's slowly being unable to continue as a Hero, and as such he's begun to look for a successor, becoming a teacher at U.A. to find one.

"One for All", the Quirk he inherited, allows him to stockpile an enormous amount of raw power, allowing him to significantly enhance all of his physical abilities to a superhuman level. This results in unbelievable levels of strength, speed, agility, and durability that make All Might nearly invincible.

  • Adaptational Intelligence: He is a better teacher than in canon and knows when to stop teaching, such as when Bakugo is about to use his Gauntlets on Izuku. Having their first Heroics lesson be Battle Trials is also explicitly not his idea here, and he questions why he had to do it and is shocked to learn that it was so the students will learn the dangers their powers can pose when they could have taught that lesson through a simple lecture.
  • Anti-Mentor: While this stems from a lack of experience, it doesn't change the fact that he has no idea what he's doing when teaching.
  • The Atoner: He wants to atone after crushing Izuku's dream.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: As in canon. He manages to make an exception before the USJ, allowing other heroes such as Endeavor to handle the incidents that delayed him in canon.
  • Easily Forgiven: Averted. When he apologizes to Izuku for his words, he states that he doesn't expect to be forgiven so soon, even after he gives One for All to him.

    Principal Nezu

Nezu

Quirk: High Specs

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/principal_3.png

A rare example of an animal possessing a Quirk, Nezu's intelligence eventually allowed him to become the principal of U.A. His Quirk is "High Specs", which grants him Super-Intelligence.

  • Accomplice by Inaction: Considers himself as such upon realizing how many lives were ruined by allowing Aizawa to remain as a teacher for years when as the principal, it was well within his power to stop Aizawa the instant he demonstrated himself to be such a horrible teacher he single-handedly made a Sucky School out of UA.
  • The Atoner: Recognising his role in letting Aizawa get away with all his crap up until Izuku's year, he takes steps to make up for it.
  • Blatant Lies: After Curious airs live footage of Taiga, Majima and the 1-A students fighting their way to Kamino, Nezu decides to spin a lie and that it was all part of the plan to help the Pros during the raid in Kamino. While he (seemingly) succeeds in fooling most of the press, Nezu internally freaks out over his students recklesness and promises to punish them for it once the situation is over.
  • Bystander Syndrome: One of Nezu's biggest failures is that he did nothing when Aizawa was quite demonstrably being a horrible teacher up until Izuku's year when as both a hero and Aizawa's boss, he was both morally and legally obligated to take action to deal with an employee that was not just underperforming but actively damaging UA.
  • Heel Realization: Dealing with Aizawa has made him realize his own mistakes in handling his students.
  • Mix-and-Match Critters: He mixes in body features from several mammals, resulting in a creature whose actual species is a mystery.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Gives an absolutely brutal and well-deserved one to Aizawa in Chapter 37 where he goes into detail about how Aizawa is a terrible teacher, a monster who psychologically abuses his students, and above all else, a hypocrite.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: In direct contrast to Aizawa, Nezu prioritizes his students' growth and well-being no matter who they are. After Nia turned herself in due to being a spy for the League of Villains, Nezu had absolutely no intention of expelling her and even offers to have her become a ward of U.A., to her surprise.

    Goro Majima

Goro Majima

Quirk: Quirkless

Blade(s): Taiga

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ylad_majima.png

A Driver and former yakuza known as the Mad Dog, he was recruited by the League of Villains for the USJ invasion. He later becomes a TA for his Blade at U.A.

  • Anti-Hero: He is an Ax-Crazy Blood Knight and former member of the Yakuza, but despite it all, Majima is genuinely nice and caring man, that has no problem to ditch his life of crime to help his students.
  • Anti-Villain: He really doesn't like the rest of the League, and mostly joined them to see if Izuku, as a fellow Quirkless Driver, could be an interesting Worthy Opponent (and finds the answer is yes, much to his elation). After Izuku fights him, he helps with saving other students.
  • Badass Normal: Even before bonding with Taiga, Majima was already strong enough to beat top-tier villains like the King of Hell when everyone else had failed.
  • Empowered Badass Normal: He's Quirkless, but with his Blade Taiga's assistance is still able to give Izuku a hard time.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Realized the League of Villains contained people like Fingers, and that they planned to enslave Blades. By the time he meets Izuku, Majima is already looking for someone who can help save the Hero class.
  • Happily Married: Chapter 15 reveals he's married to Makoto and that she's disapproving but understanding of why he does the work he does.
  • Heel–Face Turn: He wasn't much of a heel, but he does still fight for the League of Villains initially, only to turn after fighting Izuku.
  • Let's Fight Like Gentlemen: Well, as "gentlemanly-like" an ex-yakuza can get. He fights Izuku one-on-one without his Blade, promising to let him and Brighid go if Izuku wins. And he holds up to his end of the deal when Izuku proves to be a Worthy Opponent (even if he still needs training).
  • My Greatest Failure: He considers Awane's death this, and that is one of the main reasons for him to accept Nezu's offer to be 1-A's TA, to prevent Izuku and other students to fall this same path.
  • One-Man Army: From taking down the King of Hell to taking down a Yakuza stronghold on his own, Majima definitely counts as such. And as the man points out, he became even more formidable after resonating with Taiga.
  • Papa Wolf: Unleashes Conquerer's Haki against some HPSC goons who were sent to bring in Izuku for fighting Stain and killing the Winged Nomu. And to make sure they don't try again, he tells them that if they have a problem, they can bring it up with Nezu.
  • Punch-Clock Villain: Only joined the USJ attack because of being paid a large amount to do so, and it's clear he was having second thoughts.

    Taiga

Taiga

Role: Tank

Element: Earth

Weapon: Homerun Slugger

Goro's Blade who later becomes 1-A's substitute teacher.

  • Adaptation Species Change: Big time! In his home series he's 100% human. Here he's a beast-type Blade and a tiger one like Dromarch.
  • Batter Up!: His weapon takes the form of a bat.
  • Cool Teacher: Except for Bakugo, everyone in Class 1-A quickly warm up to him.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: He's an earth element Blade, able to create a stone wall to act as an arena.
  • Made of Iron: He's so durable that Pyra thinks he could shrug off a direct blast from her Kill Sat.
  • No-Sell: Takes a full blast of Dabi's flames and just shrugs it off.
  • Superior Successor: After replacing Aizawa, 1-A quickly accepts him as the far superior homeroom teacher. For one thing, he actually teaches instead of lazing around sleeping.

    Midnight

Nemuri Kayama — Midnight

Quirk: Somnambulist

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/midnight_anime_profile.png
18+ Only Heroine

An S&M-themed pro heroine. She refs the U.A. Sports Festival and teaches Modern Hero Art History. Her Quirk is "Somnambulist", which allows her to release a sleep-inducing fragrance from her body.

  • Action Girl: As a professional hero and a member of U.A.'s staff, Midnight is a very qualified hero whose entire job is to kick villain butt and protect the peace.
  • I Warned You: Says this to Aizawa after he's fired and is escorted out of the school by Wulfric.
  • Interspecies Romance: She hooks up with Wulfric.
  • It's All My Fault: She blames herself for all of the students whose lives Aizawa ruined as she was the one who originally offered him a position at U.A.
  • We Used to Be Friends: At one time she had considered Aizawa a friend. That quickly changed because of Aizawa's fanatical 'rationality'.

    Wulfric (current)

Wulfric

Role: Attacker

Element: Earth

Weapon: Megalance

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/xc2_wulfric_artwork.png

Originally the Blade of the USJ Nomu, Wulfric becomes All Might's Blade after the Sports Festival by accident.

    Vlad King

Sekijiro Kan — Vlad King

Quirk: Blood Control

Species: Human

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vlad_king_full.png

The homeroom teacher of Class 1-B. His Quirk is "Blood Control", which allows him to control blood.

  • Establishing Character Moment: When he first enters Class 1-B, Vlad begins asking why they're not in their seats... until he sees Reiko fresh out of the hospital. At which point he promptly gives the girl a Bear Hug, relieved that she's okay. This shows that Vlad is the total opposite of Aizawa.
  • Everyone Has Standards: He may not like Izuku due to his desire for rivalry between his class and 1-A, as well as him having sex with one of his students, but he does express concern for Izuku's wellbeing during the Training Camp.

    Shota Aizawa

Shota Aizawa — Eraserhead

Quirk: Erasure

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shouta_aizawa.png

The "Underground" Erasing Hero and homeroom teacher of Class 1-A. While he may be generally apathetic and lazy about things that do not interest him, he has an eye for talent and ingenuity while having zero patience for any student that (in his opinion) doesn't take U.A. seriously. His Quirk, "Erasure", allows him to nullify others' control over their Quirks just by looking at them. Blinking dispels the effect of his Quirk and using it gives him dry eyes. He's officially fired from U.A. after the Sports Festival.

  • Adaptational Jerkass: Aizawa's canon actions are reinterpreted as being worse, in addition to the story giving him additional negative traits:
    • His canon line about the country not letting people use their Quirks, preventing those with excellent Quirks from excelling, is directly compared to beliefs held by the Meta Liberation Army by Pyra. Momo also notes that his desire to have the students go all out during his Quirk Assessment Test rings hollow when Todoroki didn't use his fire at all and yet Aizawa never addressed this. His large expulsion record is also treated with contempt by Midnight due to him ruining the lives of so many kids over his whims.
    • Not only does he not like Drivers and Blades, deliberately rigging his Quirk assessment test to ensure that they end up at the bottom of the barrel, he downright says that Bakugo scored the highest in the Entrance Exam, even though Izuku and Pyra were the ones who took the top score and beat All Might's record, both because he's a Driver and because he caught All Might's eye. He also outright dismisses the rescue points, saying they do not matter, even though saving people is the very essence of being a hero.
    • He's also Quirkist, referring to Izuku's Quirklessness in derogatory terms and planning how to get Vlad to expel fellow Quirkless student Reiko.
  • Adaptational Villainy: After being fired, Aizawa is approached by Skeptic and it's implied he joined the Meta-Liberation Front.
  • Adaptational Wimp: Downplayed, as his power simply doesn't work on Blades.
  • Apathetic Teacher: He doesn't even teach the kids. Or train them. Or help them (or allow them to ask for it). Or guide them. He just acknowledges their existence and sleeps, while occasionally handing out punishments. He's so bad that a former villain who just attacked the USJ is quickly accepted by most of 1-A as a better teacher than him.
  • Create Your Own Villain: As part of his "The Reason You Suck" Speech, Nezu explains in no uncertain terms that over 20 of the villains at the USJ were former students that Aizawa had expelled.
  • Double Standard: He gives Bakugou nothing more than verbal warnings for excessive violence, but Izuku doing the same thing results in him calling for his expulsion.
  • Entertainingly Wrong: He believes that 1-A will crumble in the Sports Festival after several weeks without his "guidance", and plots how to expel Izuku and Nia as soon as he gets out of the infirmary. 1-A sweeps the tournament — with Izuku winning the final match against Bakugo, much to Aizawa's shock — and he learns the day he returns to class that Nezu had already fired him and put Taiga in charge of the class.
  • Exact Words: When he rigs the Quirk Assessment Test results to put all Drivers lower than their actual scores would indicate, he states it's because it's a QUIRK Assessment Test.
  • Fantastic Racism: Aizawa does not hide that he dislikes Drivers and Blades and unfairly punishes them, especially Izuku. note
  • Forced to Watch: Nezu takes advantage of his immobility to make him watch the Sports Festival.
  • Hypocrite:
    • He waxes on and on about how the U.A. Entrance Exam unfairly favors flashy Quirks, but as Nedzu points out, his Quirk Assessment Tests are even more unfairly in favor of flashy powers. Given his blatant rigging of the results of the people he doesn't like, he doesn't even have the decency to commit to it.
    • He hates the Drivers for relying on their Blades, calling it a crutch, but he relies on his scarf as a crutch when his Quirk doesn't work.
    • When he sees Shinso's strategy during the Sports Festival's first event (waiting at the entrance for people to come so he can brainwash them) he considers it brilliant, even though it's a blatant demonstration of what he claims of Drivers - relying on something else other than himself and his Quirk.
  • Insane Troll Logic: Somehow, he genuinely believes that he is a good teacher despite all the evidence against it, and thinks that Shinso, who didn't put in any effort during the Entrance Exam, was wronged by U.A. when he wasn't put in the Hero Course.
  • Irony: A hero and teacher who emphasizes being "rational" is being irrational due to his dislike of All Might and Drivers.
  • Irrational Hatred: His dislike of All Might, Drivers, and Izuku makes no sense. Which is ironic given his love of "rational deceptions".
    • He dislikes All Might simply because he dislikes spotlight heroes, viewing them as idiotic showoffs, and All Might is the biggest of them all.
    • Drivers because they're not using their own power. Momo points out that this makes no sense as Todoroki got first despite not going all out and not using his left side at all yet the Drivers were simply using everything at their disposal as Blades are weapons, akin to support items.
    • Izuku gets it the worst because he's both a Driver and he reminds Aizawa of All Might, since Izuku caught the latter's attention.
  • Karma Houdini Warranty: He finally gets comeuppance for ruining the lives of dozens of students over the years in Chapter 37.
  • Lack of Empathy: To Nezu's disgust, he does not care about the many lives he has ruined.
  • Lazy Bum: He sleeps over doing his teaching duties and everything else important.
  • Morality Chain Beyond the Grave: He shrugs off everyone listing his failings, but Midnight saying Oboro would be disappointed in him manages to sting him.
  • Never My Fault:
    • His answer to learning several students he kicked out of U.A. killed themselves out of shame, and many others were driven into villainy? Claim he was right to expel them since they were clearly "too weak".
    • He blames being fired from U.A. on Izuku (his logic being that Izuku showing up ruined his plan), instead of his terrible teaching and behavior.
  • The Pigpen: His lack of personal hygiene comes up fairly frequently, with it being implied that he's too lazy to properly clean himself most of the time, lying around in his sleeping bag instead. In his introduction, he pulls gym uniforms from his sleeping bag for the students to change into, said uniforms being soaked with what the students can only hope is just his sweat.
  • Sadist Teacher: Aizawa is such a bad teacher he single-handedly turns UA into a Sucky School. Within just his class, he treats Drivers unfairly and even states he enjoys seeing the students feel fear of his control in their future. Even more so with Izuku as he finds him similar to All Might and even allows Bakugo to discriminate against him. However, the damage extends beyond his own classroom. He advocates discrimination against certain students, his bad hygiene is a health hazard to everybody else in the school, and several of the students he expelled either committed suicide or turned to villainy, a huge black mark on him, as well as a huge black mark on UA for letting him do all that with no consequences until Izuku's year.
  • Skewed Priorities:
    • The other students of 1-A are shocked that his main concern when Bakugou attacks Izuku is how it inconveniences Aizawa instead of the fact a student tried to assault another student.
    • During the USJ, he runs into one of Izuku and Bakugo's old classmates (the boy with the finger-extending Quirk). When the kid reveals he's a Driver with a rare Blade that he implies he regularly rapes, Aizawa can't decide if he hates him or Izuku more.
