The "Underground" Erasing Hero and homeroom teacher of Class 1-A. While he may be generally apathetic and lazy about things that do not interest him, he has an eye for talent and ingenuity while having zero patience for any student that (in his opinion) doesn't take U.A. seriously. His Quirk, "Erasure", allows him to nullify others' control over their Quirks just by looking at them. Blinking dispels the effect of his Quirk and using it gives him dry eyes. He's officially fired from U.A. after the Sports Festival. [[spoiler: After being fired, it's implied Aizawa was recruited to the Meta Liberation Front by Skeptic.]]

The scion of the Iida family of Heroes, he's incredibly uptight and has the highest expectations for himself and his peers. He and Izuku get off on the wrong foot when they get into a spat just before the U.A. Entrance Exam, but they become friends when classes start. His Quirk, "Engine", gives him in literal engines in his legs that grant him SuperSpeed.

Within just his class, he treats Drivers unfairly and even states he enjoys seeing the students feel fear of his control in their future. Even more so with Izuku as he finds him similar to All Might and even allows Bakugo to discriminate against him. However, the damage extends beyond his own classroom. He advocates discrimination against certain students, his bad hygiene is a health hazard to everybody else in the school, and several of the students he expelled either committed suicide or turned to villainy, a huge black mark on him, as well as a huge black mark on UA for letting him do all that with no consequences until Izuku's year.

* TheComicallySerious: As in canon, so is he here. Though sometimes his over-seriousness does come off as grating rather than comedic.

One of 1-A's two recommended students and the son of the Number Two Hero, Endeavor. His Quirk, "Half-Cold and Half-Hot", lets him emit incredible ice from his right side and searing flames from his left.
----
* AdaptationalNameChange: Instead of just using his name like in canon, Shoto goes with Liebe, German for "love".
* ComboPlatterPowers: Can control both [[AnIcePerson ice]] and [[PlayingWithFire fire]], although he refuses to use the latter for personal reasons.
* GracefulLoser: [[spoiler:He takes his loss to Uraraka pretty well.]]
* ComicallyMissingThePoint: He tries to give Dabi a PetTheDog moment by saying that if girls can think he is attractive despite his own scar, Dabi will probably find someone eventually. Poor Shoto is missing out on the fact his scar is nothing compared to Dabi's BodyHorror looks, and this prompts his jealous brother to furiously attack him back.
* CurbStompBattle: Gives one to Dabi during the Training Camp arc. Not only his ice is strong enough to withstand Dabi's flames thanks to imbuing Heat on it, Shoto beats Dabi repeatedly in close quarters.
* HappilyAdopted: PlayedForLaughs. [[spoiler:Pyra, after learning of Todoroki's jealousy of Poppi having someone like Izuku as a father figure, offers for her, Mythra, and Izuku to become his new moms and dad. He graciously accepts.]]
* HeroicRROD: He locks up during his fight with Uraraka from overuse of his ice side. It isn't until he begins to use fire that he recovers.
* MeaningfulName: Shoto says he spent too long living on hatred, for himself, Endeavor, and his Quirk, so now he will pick a name that means "love" to show he is letting go of this hatred.
* NotSoStoic: [[spoiler:He's clearly shaken that Nia killed Theory's Driver, as well as Theory's last request before she returns to her Core Crystal.]]

* SelfServingMemory: Endeavor reveals that his son's recollection of his childhood isn't completely accurate. For one thing, the domestic violence between him and Rei was not one-sided (he actually has a large frostbite scar on his torso), and for another thing, Rei was a willing participant in the Quirk Marriage and was the one who pushed to have more kids after their second.

A young girl whose strange appearance is caused by her Quirk, "Frog", which allows her to do pretty much anything a frog can, including jump quite long distances, swim with extreme agility, and extend her tongue like a flexible steel cable.
----
* AdaptationalJerkass: A mild example compared to the likes of Aizawa and Shinso, but her canon tendency towards bluntness and speaking what's on her mind is portrayed in a much more negative light, due to her voicing her thoughts regarding Izuku's relatives (one of them a former yakuza), as well as some of the suspicious circumstances around him, which leads to her alienating several of her classmates, especially Izuku's girlfriends.
* CuteMonsterGirl: She's a frog and she's adorable.

A bubbly and cheerful girl whose Quirk, "Invisibility", renders her entire body permanently invisible. She is usually seen as a set of seemingly floating clothes -- or in the case of her hero costume, just a pair of floating gloves and shoes. Because of this, she often jokes about her condition and can get away with states of undress no visible human could dream of trying in public.
----
* BattleStrip: When fully nude, she can make the best use of her Quirk.

Class 1-A's friendliest and most HotBlooded member, he is always working to become 'manlier' and a better hero. His Quirk, "Hardening", allows him to make his body more resistant to any type of attack.
----
* AppleOfDiscord: His inability to see Bakugou as the horrible person he is, combined with his recklessness during the USJ incident making things worse, causes a rift between him and the rest of 1-A.
* BlackAndWhiteMorality: Tends to think in this way. To him, Bakugo is manly and therefore good, due to him being a strong heroics student ignoring the fact that he is a bully, while Goro Majima and Taiga are bad due to taking part in the USJ attack, ignoring the fact that they saw it as wrong, helped the students during said attack and are trying to do better in life.
* ButtMonkey: Kirishima being enamored with Bakugou and being unable to see him as the horrible person he is has resulted in him being the butt of mockery with him being publicly called a butt-kisser, or a simp for Bakugou.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: His defense of and association with Bakugou has caused a rift between him and the rest of the class sans Bakugou due to Bakugou being such an obviously horrible person and yet Kirishima being too blind to see it.
* HeelRealization: Seeing [[spoiler:Bakugo nearly killing Reiko during their match]] causes him to realize he was on the wrong side of the situation, and after the festival begins to work out how to atone for his errors.
* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: He thinks [[{{Jerkass}} Bakugo]] is "manly", to start. In fact, he's so enamored by Bakugo that he's convinced himself that ''Izuku'' is the bully in their relationship. He seems to have finally realized he was wrong after [[spoiler:Bakugo's brutal beating of Reiko]].

----

A boy from the U.A. General Studies course who wants to get into the Hero course.
----
* AdaptationalJerkass: He is much more antagonistic to Midoriya and the other members of Class 1-A, the Drivers in particular. It's implied that this is from jealousy that he didn't resonate with a Blade, which he thinks alone would have gotten him in the hero course.
** During the Scavenger Race, he outright sabotages his classmates by making them destroy the objects they collect that are not on his list.
* EarlyBirdCameo: He makes a cameo during the entrance exam, with Izuku saving him from some robots.
* {{Hypocrite}}: Claims that Izuku is only in the Hero Course because he relied on Pyra to get through the exam, yet he's implied to be jealous of Drivers because he thinks having a Blade would have gotten him in the hero course, and during the Sports Festival he just takes advantage of the work other students do to get through the events.
* LazyBum: Emphasize on "Lazy".
** While his Quirk is useful, Shinso relies too much on it and hasn't done any real training, which is why he failed the entrance exam while characters like [[InvisibleStreaker Hagakure]] (whose Quirks are just as useless if not more so against robots) passed since they actually took the time to train.
** His plan for the Scavenger Race is to essentially wait at the gate of the stadium and wait for anyone to come back with an item orb, brainwash them, and if it's on his list, take it. Predictably, this nearly causes him to lose the first event, since all the hero course students were actually focused on the event and ignored him, causing him to only brainwash other general studies or support students.
* LogicalWeakness:
** Brainwashing requires the target to give a verbal response to Shinso. If you don't answer, he is unable to use his Quirk.
** Someone he has used Brainwashing on can break out if they get hurt. Izuku keeps One for All running during the fight to keep him in constant pain, preventing Brainwashing from taking hold of him.
* ShutUpHannibal: When Hitoshi tries claiming that U.A.'s Heroics Entrance Exams are biased, Izuku retorts that his claims are ''extremely'' hollow when Hagakure, whose Quirk only makes her invisible, was able to pass.
* SoreLoser: Shinso doesn't take his loss in the Sports Festival well, even smacking away the hand that Izuku offered him.
* TooDumbToLive: He ''jumps'' in front of a speeding Izuku (riding on Nana's hoverboard) in a last-ditch attempt to brainwash him. Had Izuku not jumped over him, Shinso not passing the first event would've been the ''least'' of his problems.
* UngratefulBastard: Izuku saves him during the Entrance Exam. Shinsou reacts by glaring at him, slapping his hand away, and muttering unflattering things about Izuku.

Izuku's former ChildhoodFriend and long-time bully. Bakugou has it all: athleticism, great grades, and an extremely powerful Quirk called "Explosion", which lets him turn the sweat his hands expel into nitroglycerin, allowing him to create explosions at will. His genius is only matched by his ego and fiery temper, refusing to let anyone else top him as he sets out to become the Number One Hero. After the Sports Festival, he's kicked out of the Hero course and forced to join General Education.
----
* TheAce: {{Deconstructed}}. At the start of the series, Bakugo was a skilled Quirk user who was good at just about anything he attempted, including having great grades. This, combined with him being praised by so many people for his luck and talent, meant Bakugo grew up knowing he was this — which made him into a ''massive'' {{jerkass}} who looks down on everyone else.
* AdaptationalEarlyAppearance: In canon, Bakugo didn't develop his AP Shot move until before the Provisional Hero License Exam. Here he uses it during his match against Reiko during the Sports Festival.
* ArmorPiercingAttack: His AP (for "Armor-Piercing") Shot, a concentrated explosion aimed through his hand, which he developed to get through a Blade's Ether Barrier.
* TheBerserker: Everything about him, his Quirk, his personality, his costume, his facial expressions, even his hair scream this.
* BreakTheHaughty: Bakugo relishes in his life in elementary and middle school and expected U.A. to be the same - which his first encounter with Aizawa seemed to validate. Then came the next day, where All Might (his favorite hero) berates him while defending and complimenting 'useless Deku', and Izuku not only stands up to him but fights and nearly defeats him - and when he tries to use his grenades in spite of All Might's instructions, he gets in great trouble.
* TheBully: He is a bully, his primary target being Izuku.
* DemotedToExtra: His behavior during the Sports Festival gets him sent to General Studies.
* DisproportionateRetribution: The reason for his hatred of Izuku and source of his InferioritySuperiorityComplex? Izuku tried to help him when Bakugo fell in a creek when they were six. Practically ''everyone'' who hears this is shocked and disgusted for such a petty and asinine reason.
* EntitledBastard: Treats everyone like crap, yet still expects the world to bend to his will, not that the people around him did otherwise before he arrived to U.A.
* FantasticRacism:
** He hates Izuku for nothing more than him being Quirkless.
** He downright ''hates'' Pyra and, by extension, other Blades. He even finds Kaminari's relationship with Pandoria disgusting.
* HairTriggerTemper: Almost everything is like pressing a BerserkButton to him but a few really drive him over the edge.
** Anyone doing something he interprets as claiming to be better than him.
** Blades in general.
** Anything involving "DEKU!!!" (even his existence).
* InferioritySuperiorityComplex: He has a big need to prove himself to everyone, All Might especially, yet deeply fears when someone may outperform him, thus causing him to lash out.
* TheNicknamer: He doesn't even ''seem'' to (want to) know everyone else's names, so he gives insulting nicknames based on people's features.
* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown: [[spoiler:While he did have trouble against her at first, Bakugo eventually delivers this to Reiko during their match, one so bad that Reiko ''needed to be taken to a hospital''.]]
* TheRunaway: [[spoiler:He runs away after being demoted to General Studies, going missing for a month before the HPSC finds him to offer him a job.]]
* TeenyWeenie: It's made quite clear when he's hit by Izuku's Tiger Drop that Bakugo is not very well-endowed.
--> Izuku's fist shot forward, colliding with something small – almost microscopic really – and fragile.

Japan's Greatest Hero, the Symbol of Peace, and Izuku's lifelong idol. His true identity is Toshinori Yagi, which only a select few people know. Years before the main story, Toshinori suffered an injury that took out most of his internal organs. As a result, he's slowly being unable to continue as a Hero, and as such he's begun to look for a successor, becoming a teacher at U.A. to find one.\\\
"One for All", the Quirk he inherited, allows him to stockpile an enormous amount of raw power, allowing him to significantly enhance all of his physical abilities to a superhuman level. This results in unbelievable levels of strength, speed, agility, and durability that make All Might nearly invincible.
----
* AdaptationalIntelligence: He is a better teacher than in canon and knows when to stop teaching, such as when Bakugo is about to use his Gauntlets on Izuku. Having their first Heroics lesson be Battle Trials is also explicitly not his idea here, and he questions why he had to do it and is shocked to learn that it was so the students will learn the dangers their powers can pose when they could have taught that lesson through a simple lecture.
* AntiMentor: While this stems from a lack of experience, it doesn't change the fact that he has no idea what he's doing when teaching.
* TheAtoner: He wants to atone after crushing Izuku's dream.
* ChronicHeroSyndrome: As in canon. He manages to make an exception before the USJ, allowing other heroes such as Endeavor to handle the incidents that delayed him in canon.

* BadassNormal: Even before bonding with Taiga, Majima was already strong enough to beat top-tier villains like the [[HeroKiller King of Hell]] when everyone else had failed.
* EmpoweredBadassNormal: He's Quirkless, but with his Blade Taiga's assistance is still able to give Izuku a hard time.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Realized the League of Villains contained people like [[RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil Fingers]], and that they planned to enslave Blades. By the time he meets Izuku, Majima is already looking for someone who can help save the Hero class.

* MyGreatestFailure: He considers Awane's death this, and that is one of the main reasons for him to accept Nezu's offer to be 1-A's TA, to prevent Izuku and other students to fall this same path.
* OneManArmy: From taking down the King of Hell to taking down a Yakuza stronghold on his own, Majima definitely counts as such. And as the man points out, he became even more formidable after resonating with Taiga.
* PapaWolf: Unleashes Conquerer's Haki against some HPSC goons who were sent to bring in Izuku [[spoiler:for fighting Stain and killing the Winged Nomu.]] And to make sure they don't try again, he tells them that if they have a problem, they can bring it up with [[TheDreaded Nezu]].
* PunchClockVillain: Only joined the USJ attack because of being paid a large amount to do so, and it's clear he was having second thoughts.

Goro's Blade who later becomes 1-A's substitute teacher.

* AdaptationSpeciesChange: ''Big time!'' In his [[VideoGame/{{Yakuza}} home series]] he's 100% human. Here he's a beast-type Blade and a tiger one like Dromarch.
* BatterUp: His weapon takes the form of a bat.
* CoolTeacher: Except for Bakugo, everyone in Class 1-A quickly warm up to him.
* DishingOutDirt: He's an earth element Blade, able to create a stone wall to act as an arena.
* MadeOfIron: He's so durable that Pyra thinks he could shrug off a direct blast from her KillSat.
* NoSell: Takes a full blast of Dabi's flames and just shrugs it off.

An S&M-themed pro heroine. She refs the U.A. Sports Festival and teaches Modern Hero Art History. Her Quirk is "Somnambulist", which allows her to release a sleep-inducing fragrance from her body.
-----
* ActionGirl: As a professional hero and a member of U.A.'s staff, Midnight is a very qualified hero whose entire job is to kick villain butt and protect the peace.
* IWarnedYou: Says this to Aizawa after he's [[spoiler:fired and is escorted out of the school by Wulfric]].
* InterspeciesRomance: [[spoiler:She hooks up with Wulfric.]]
* ItsAllMyFault: She blames herself for all of the students whose lives Aizawa ruined as ''she'' was the one who originally offered him a position at U.A.
* WeUsedToBeFriends: At one time she had considered Aizawa a friend. That quickly changed because of Aizawa's fanatical 'rationality'.

----
* DishingOutDirt: He's an earth element Blade.
* FaceOfAThug: He's a shy, super nice guy who happens to be one of the most monstrous-looking Blades out there.

The homeroom teacher of Class 1-B. His Quirk is "Blood Control", which allows him to control blood.
----
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: When he first enters Class 1-B, Vlad begins asking why they're not in their seats... until he sees Reiko fresh out of the hospital. At which point he promptly gives the girl a BearHug, relieved that she's okay. This shows that Vlad is the total opposite of Aizawa.
* EveryoneHasStandards: He may not like Izuku due to his desire for rivalry between his class and 1-A, as well as him having sex with one of his students, but he does express concern for Izuku's wellbeing during the Training Camp.

!!Shota Aizawa -- Eraserhead
!!!'''Quirk:''' [[AntiMagic Erasure]]

[[quoteright:160:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shouta_aizawa.png]]

[[spoiler:He's officially fired from U.A. after the Sports Festival.]]
----
* AdaptationalJerkass: Aizawa's canon actions are reinterpreted as being worse, in addition to the story giving him additional negative traits:
** His canon line about the country not letting people use their Quirks, preventing those with excellent Quirks from excelling, is directly compared to beliefs held by the Meta Liberation Army by Pyra. Momo also notes that his desire to have the students go all out during his Quirk Assessment Test rings hollow when Todoroki didn't use his fire at all and yet Aizawa never addressed this. His large expulsion record is also treated with contempt by Midnight due to him ruining the lives of so many kids over his whims.
** Not only does he not like Drivers and Blades, deliberately rigging his Quirk assessment test to ensure that they end up at the bottom of the barrel, he downright says that ''Bakugo'' scored the highest in the Entrance Exam, even though Izuku and Pyra were the ones who took the top score and beat All Might's record, both because he's a Driver and because he caught All Might's eye. He also outright dismisses the rescue points, saying they do not matter, even though saving people is the very essence of being a hero.
** He's also Quirkist, referring to Izuku's Quirklessness in derogatory terms and planning how to get Vlad to expel fellow Quirkless student Reiko.
* AdaptationalWimp: Downplayed, as his power simply doesn't work on Blades.
* ApatheticTeacher: He doesn't even teach the kids. Or train them. Or help them (or allow them to ask for it). Or guide them. He just acknowledges their existence and sleeps, while occasionally handing out punishments. He's so bad that a former villain who just attacked the USJ is quickly accepted by most of 1-A as a better teacher than him.
* CreateYourOwnVillain: As part of his TheReasonYouSuckSpeech, Nezu explains in no uncertain terms that over 20 of the villains at the USJ were former students that Aizawa had expelled.
* DoubleStandard: He gives Bakugou nothing more than verbal warnings for excessive violence, but Izuku doing the same thing results in him calling for his expulsion.
* EntertaininglyWrong: He believes that 1-A will crumble in the Sports Festival after several weeks without his "guidance", and plots how to expel Izuku and Nia as soon as he gets out of the infirmary. 1-A sweeps the tournament -- with Izuku winning the final match against Bakugo, [[ThisCannotBe much to Aizawa's shock]] -- and he learns the day he returns to class that Nezu had already fired him and put Taiga in charge of the class.
* ExactWords: When he rigs the Quirk Assessment Test results to put all Drivers lower than their actual scores would indicate, he states it's because it's a QUIRK Assessment Test.
* FantasticRacism: Aizawa does not hide that he dislikes Drivers and Blades and unfairly punishes them, especially Izuku. [[note]]According to the WordOfGod, part of the reason is because his Quirk doesn't work on Blades, making him effectively useless against them.[[/note]]
* ForcedToWatch: Nezu takes advantage of his immobility to make him watch the Sports Festival.
* {{Hypocrite}}:
** He waxes on and on about how the U.A. Entrance Exam unfairly favors flashy Quirks, but as Nedzu points out, his Quirk Assessment Tests are even more unfairly in favor of flashy powers. Given his blatant rigging of the results of the people he doesn't like, he doesn't even have the decency to commit to it.
** He hates the Drivers for relying on their Blades, calling it a crutch, but he relies on his scarf as a crutch when his Quirk doesn't work.
** When he sees Shinso's strategy during the Sports Festival's first event (waiting at the entrance for people to come so he can brainwash them) he considers it brilliant, even though it's a blatant demonstration of what he claims of Drivers - relying on something else other than himself and his Quirk.
* InsaneTrollLogic: Somehow, he genuinely believes that he is a good teacher despite all the evidence against it, and thinks that Shinso, who didn't put in any effort during the Entrance Exam, was wronged by U.A. when he wasn't put in the Hero Course.
* {{Irony}}: A hero and teacher who emphasizes being "rational" is being irrational due to his dislike of All Might and Drivers.
* IrrationalHatred: His dislike of All Might, Drivers, and Izuku makes no sense. Which is ironic given his love of "rational deceptions".
** He dislikes All Might simply because he dislikes spotlight heroes, viewing them as idiotic showoffs, and All Might is the biggest of them all.
** Drivers because they're not using their own power. Momo points out that this makes no sense as Todoroki got first despite not going all out and not using his left side at all yet the Drivers were simply using everything at their disposal as Blades are weapons, akin to support items.
** Izuku gets it the worst because he's both a Driver and he reminds Aizawa of All Might, since Izuku caught the latter's attention.
* KarmaHoudiniWarranty: He ''finally'' gets comeuppance for ruining the lives of dozens of students over the years in Chapter 37.
* LackOfEmpathy: To Nezu's disgust, he does not care about the many lives he has ruined.
* LazyBum: He sleeps over doing his teaching duties and everything else important.
* MoralityChainBeyondTheGrave: [[spoiler:He shrugs off everyone listing his failings, but Midnight saying Oboro would be disappointed in him manages to sting him.]]
* NeverMyFault:
** His answer to learning several students he kicked out of U.A. killed themselves out of shame, and many others were driven into villainy? Claim he was right to expel them since they were clearly "too weak".
** [[spoiler:He blames being fired from U.A. on Izuku (his logic being that Izuku showing up ruined his plan), instead of his terrible teaching and behavior.]]
* ThePigpen: His lack of personal hygiene comes up fairly frequently, with it being implied that he's too lazy to properly clean himself most of the time, lying around in his sleeping bag instead. In his introduction, he pulls gym uniforms from his sleeping bag for the students to change into, said uniforms being soaked with what the students can only ''hope'' is just his sweat.
* SadistTeacher: Aizawa treats Drivers unfairly and even states he enjoys seeing the students feel fear of his control in their future. Even more so with Izuku as he finds him similar to All Might and even allows Bakugo to discriminate against him.
* SkewedPriorities:
** The other students of 1-A are shocked that his main concern when Bakugou attacks Izuku is how it inconveniences ''Aizawa'' instead of the fact a student tried to assault another student.
** During the USJ, he runs into one of Izuku and Bakugo's old classmates (the boy with the finger-extending Quirk). When the kid reveals he's a Driver with a rare Blade that he implies he regularly rapes, Aizawa can't decide if he hates him or Izuku more.
